Welcome to episode eight of season three! Today, we’re diving into the symbolic meaning of losing a wallet or purse in a dream—one of John Paul Jackson's top 20 most common dreams. This dream often speaks to questions of identity: were you rushing, did you misplace it, or was it stolen? Each scenario highlights different spiritual themes. Losing something personal like IDs, money, or keys could signify God’s call for you to rediscover your identity, value, or authority, especially if life’s challenges or circumstances have caused doubt.

This dream can also point to the spiritual battle over our identity. Losing a wallet in haste might suggest a need to slow down with God, while theft could represent spiritual attacks, like lies or accusations affecting your self-worth. However, the meaning of the items in the dream will be unique to you, so go with what resonates. These dreams are invitations to draw closer to God, exploring His perspective on who you are. Join Margaux in this episode as she guides us into a posture of childlikeness, unveiling the deeper meaning of this dream!

*Scripture References: 1 Corinthians 1:27; Hebrews 11:6

“A key to learning God’s voice is being childlike. It’s removing the pride of our adulthood, all of the knowledge and logic that we think we have, and all of the ways that we think we know better …putting that aside, and coming in with curiosity, humility…expectant to see what God is saying.”

“If you are tempted to doubt, that’s the Enemy vying for your faith. His version of faith is doubt. If you can doubt, you’re actually depositing money into his bank account. If you can access faith, then you’re sowing into God’s realm and are able to access the Kingdom of heaven. Both realms want focus…When we focus on God, that’s where we have peace and clarity.”

The Hunger for Divine Wisdom

00:00:00
Speaker
We were designed to hunger for the deep things of God, to thrive on faith and wonder, to seek out divine wisdom that defies human logic. We were designed to unlock the mysteries of God. This is Breathing Underwater.

Hello, hello. It's time for another common dream. If you have ever dreamt about losing your wallet or losing your purse or losing your ID or maybe a passport, you are in good company. That's actually a very common dream. John Paul Jackson says it's in the top 20 most common dreams along with losing your teeth or having loose teeth, right? Or following dreams like we've already talked about. so If you are having a dream about something like this, this isn't something to ignore. This is actually pointing, as always, to something deeper going on in your heart or in your life. If

Understanding Common Dreams

you've been following the podcast at all, you probably know this is a theme.
00:01:14
Speaker
Because this is what God is about. He sees the heart. He sees what's happening under the surface. He doesn't deal in facade. He communicates so differently than we do, but he sees what's happening below the surface, what is needing to be addressed deep down in the heart. And so often our dreams are speaking to those things.
00:01:40
Speaker
And until we learn God's language and common symbols, a lot of the way he speaks to us, we can easily write off. We can think, well, that's just so normal. I was probably just processing something from my day, something as simple as like, I lost my wallet or I lost my purse. That might stop some of you in your tracks and make you pay attention. But to others, that might just seem like a normal everyday occurrence where it's commonplace or nothing special.
00:02:08
Speaker
But so often God is shrouding his wisdom in something very simple. We know that the Bible says that he uses the foolish things to confound the wise, right? And so sometimes something as simple as losing a wallet in a dream or dreaming about a relative that is deceased or having a falling dream or being chased or your tooth teeth are loose. Like these simple things that seem like that was nothing. That was just my mind are actually a way that God is trying to communicate to us.
00:02:45
Speaker
So I know I've said it a hundred times, but I'm going to say it again. A

God's Communication Through Everyday Occurrences

key to learning God's voice is being childlike, is removing the pride of our adulthood and all of the knowledge and the logic that we think we have and all of the ways that we think we know better about whether a dream is valuable or not. Putting that aside and coming in with curiosity,
00:03:09
Speaker
with humility and being like a child expectant to see, God, what are you saying? And as you start to apply your faith, you are going to see more and more of the veil removed and understand more and more of God's ways and his language.
00:03:23
Speaker
It's

Finding Purpose and Identity Through Dreams

00:03:24
Speaker
the same as if we're rushing through our day. We miss the little God moments because we're so focused elsewhere. Our priorities are upside down. But have you noticed that when you have a day where you're moving a little bit slower, it feels like, oh, there's God. Oh, I can i feel him. I can sense him. I can see him a little better.
00:03:43
Speaker
Well, he was always there even when you were in your busyness. Our perceptions were just clouded by a different focus, adult responsibilities, etc. I'm not going to preach on that today, but it's similar with our dreams where we have that focus elsewhere and we think that we know better. So let's just reel back in and recognize that God is speaking through all of our dreams if we have ears to hear and eyes to see. So back to the common dream we're talking about today is losing your wallet or losing your purse. So context is going to be everything, okay? We're paying attention. Did you lose it because you're in a hurry?
00:04:24
Speaker
Was it misplaced? And a long time ago when you were searching for it in your dream, was it stolen from you? That's all going to point to a little bit different of a scenario. But overall, losing your wallet or losing your purse or a piece of identification is generally going to communicate that you, the dreamer, has lost or is looking for a part of your purpose or identity.
00:04:51
Speaker
What's in a wallet? What's in a handbag? Well, usually a wallet is in a handbag, but those things that we keep close to us, right? Identification, finances, money, ah business cards, connections to other people. These are all gonna speak to different aspects of our identity or things that are important to us. Obviously, the ID is your identity, who you are. If you've lost your ID,
00:05:19
Speaker
It's likely that God is speaking to you about a deeper thing happening in your heart where maybe you're questioning some of your God-given identity. Maybe

Identity Under Attack

00:05:27
Speaker
there's been situations that have caused you to maybe second guess, am I, is this really who I am? Is this really what I'm called to do? Am I really valued by God? Maybe you've lost some of the understanding of what makes you valuable to the Lord or what makes you unique to Him.
00:05:47
Speaker
Now we know that the enemy, our adversary loves to attack us in the area of identity. Why? Because it is so important that we know who we are and whose we are and the value that we have to God. It's a total shift of mindset when we are thinking and interacting with people and um viewing our life through the lens of being a servant or an orphan over being a son and a daughter.
00:06:16
Speaker
It's really easy to forget that God is our provider and that he has an abundance and that we don't have to live in lack. It's easy to forget that. It's easy to live in the place of an orphan. Like, I don't have enough. There isn't someone looking after me. Sometimes this happens. Well, often I would say this happens really subconsciously.
00:06:37
Speaker
But when we know our identity as sons and daughters, we know that we have a father who is always aware of where we are, what we're going through. He has all the provision that we need. He is the source. He is the protector. That's a completely different way of viewing your life, viewing your value, making decisions, right? So when we're disconnected from the truth of that identity and how unique and loved we are by God, then we're we're extra vulnerable to believing lies and actually empowering the liar, which of course we know as our adversary, right? That's the enemy prowling around, acting like a lying, trying to get our attention and our focus. So issues of identity are a big deal. If you've dreamt about losing your ID, pay attention. Pay attention to where did you leave it? Did you leave it somewhere in the dream?
00:07:31
Speaker
Did you misplace it because you were in a hurry? Was it stolen from you? Okay, that's all gonna have really different connotations, right? If you left it somewhere, ask the Holy Spirit where you left it. Where were you last feeling connected to your identity and what caused you to disconnect from that? Have him show you the moment or the season or the year or the moment, maybe that week, whatever it might be.
00:07:58
Speaker
If it was just misplaced because you were in a hurry, okay, maybe that's about slowing down to have more time to actually connect with yourself and God and get centered around who you are before you step into all of the things of life.
00:08:12
Speaker
Or if it was stolen, that's definitely going to indicate more of a theft situation from the enemy. So he's maybe behind part of that getting stolen. Did he orchestrate a situation where a bunch of you were being accused or a bunch of lies were coming up? Are there lies that you were believing because of situation or because of something that happened about your identity?
00:08:37
Speaker
The purpose of these kinds of dreams is always intimacy with God. It's always a conversation starter. The dreams are a conversation starter so that we can take it to God and ask more questions and understand better what's happening in our heart and receive truth from Him.
00:08:54
Speaker
If you lost money or credit cards, right? That's another thing that's in your wallet. That could be speaking of favor. That could mean you maybe feel like you're losing influence with certain people or maybe you've lost favor with God or maybe relational capital. That's what John Paul Jackson calls money is it can speak to relational capital with people.
00:09:20
Speaker
which makes it more difficult to communicate and accomplish what's in your heart. So if money is favor and relational capital and you've lost that, ask God, okay, what is what does this mean in my life? Where do I feel like I've lost that? It might be really obvious. It might take a little bit of digging. If there were pictures in your wallet or business cards,
00:09:40
Speaker
This of course could be speaking to your purpose, whether it's literally a business or just your calling and your purpose. I know, especially with purses or handbags, men and women both carry them, but yeah mostly women, ah we keep our keys in there.
00:09:56
Speaker
So if our keys are gone as well, that's interesting. What do keys symbolize? Well, keys are going to usually symbolize access or authority or something that is actually yours. You have ownership there. You have authority in that place. So if you've lost keys to your house, but what does that mean? If you've lost keys to your car,

Personal Interpretation of Dreams

00:10:18
Speaker
what does that mean?
00:10:20
Speaker
Are there areas where you feel like you've lost the authority in your family life? Or you feel like you've lost access to what you need to make that ministry happen or go? Or maybe you feel like you've been locked out of something and you need to just process that with God. What happened there, Lord? I thought it was going to go this way, but I feel like I've Been locked out of that situation. Even though I have the keys. I'm not able to access it I'm not able to get in and he's able to show you. Okay. Well, we just Misplaced those we just left that connection to your authority Over here or yeah, the enemy stole that from you in this moment because you've been believing this lie So let's actually repent and come back into truth and come back into the access that I've already given you and
00:11:05
Speaker
And just a reminder, these are just loose concepts. It's going to probably be more specific to you in your dream because the contents of anyone's purse or wallet is probably different from person to person. Just like our God-given destinies, just like the situations in our life and our stories, they're all unique to us. So you want to view all of this through the lens of your own life, through what the Holy Spirit is highlighting to you, and you want to wait until something resonates.
00:11:32
Speaker
If you're just kind of overlaying some interpretation on top of it and and trying to figure it out, but nothing's landing, just wait, wait on the Lord to bring the revelation. Or you might have to just dig in a little more in your own heart to see what's really in there. But what I don't want you to do is take it at face value, be like, oh, this is what the dream means. But it doesn't actually draw you closer to God. It doesn't actually help you but get to the root of something in your life. It just feels like I have an interpretation and I checked that off the list. That is not the point of this. That is not what we're doing here.
00:12:06
Speaker
We are not about information. We're about intimacy over information because God is always about relationship, not just info. All right,

Childlike Faith and Spiritual Engagement

00:12:16
Speaker
underwater breathers. This is what it means to breathe underwater is to live in the deeper things and to be open to hearing what is under the surface. Some of you may be getting those thoughts like, ugh, she's just over-spiritualizing this or like, ugh, that probably was just a coincidence. But I want you to check that mindset right now, okay?
00:12:34
Speaker
Because the enemy of our soul loves to come and get us to doubt God's voice. This is something he loves to do, to get us to doubt that we can trust what we're sensing, to get us to disconnect from ways that God is trying to speak to us. He loves to tell us that that's childish. But listen, we are called to be childlike.
00:12:54
Speaker
and to come in humility and curiosity. So in those moments, don't. Just write it off with doubt. Engage. I dare you to just engage your faith. When we engage our faith, we get access to the Spirit. We get access to God in a different way because our faith pleases Him, and it is the currency of the Spirit realm. That is why the enemy is vying for our faith, just as much as God is. If you are tempted to doubt, that's the enemy vying for your faith.
00:13:23
Speaker
His version of faith is doubt. If you can doubt, then you're actually depositing money into his bank account. If you can access faith, then you're actually sowing into God's realm and are able to access the kingdom of heaven. Both realms want focus.

Focus and Its Impact on Peace and Clarity

00:13:40
Speaker
The enemy wants focus. God wants our focus. When we focus on God, that's where we have peace. That's where we have clarity. That's where we're able to access the kingdom and feel connected to Him. That's where we're in truth.
00:13:53
Speaker
When we focus on the enemy in his realm, that's when we get locked into what we don't want to get locked into. We get locked into worry. We get locked into fear. We get locked into that orphan mentality, right? So just a reminder, when you're looking at dreams or God's voice through scripture or through happenings in the natural, we want to be partnering with faith.
00:14:14
Speaker
All right. That's all I have for you today. If you have questions, I'm always here. And until I see you next time, keep diving deeper and happy. Happy dreaming.
