In this first episode of 2025, which just so happens to launch on Epiphany ( the holiday which commemorates the Wise Men’s visit to the baby Jesus) Margaux brings a fresh perspective on the importance of stewardship of God’s voice. The words God speaks to us, whether through dreams or prayer, scripture or through others, are worth being recorded, kept and studied. Much like the Magi who studied prophecies, writings and wisdom passed down to them through the Centuries, we are called to seek and hunger after the words of God. What new commitments would you like to make in this New Year to steward your dreams and words from God in a new way? Writing down our dreams is the first step in documenting what could be pivotal revelation now or down the road. Perhaps it’s not even for our lifetime to be interpreted. What if it is for another generation? Will we regard our revelations the same way as those of old? Who passed on prophecies they never saw fulfilled, which were destined to lead a caravan of Pagen Kings to seek out the baby Messiah and worship him?

Stir up your faith with this episode accentuating the intentionality of God and the sacredness of our messages from God.

Introduction and Prophetic Focus for 2025

00:00:00
Speaker
Hello, Dreamers. It is a new year. I am so looking forward to being with you, Breathing Underwater 2025. In today's episode, we are going to commemorate the beginning of the year because we just have to. And this podcast is all about God's voice and prophecy.

Epiphany: Reflection and Learning

00:00:16
Speaker
And we're also going to dig a little deeper into the holiday of Epiphany. It is going to be loaded with goodness. Get ready to reflect and learn.
00:00:25
Speaker
We were designed to hunger for the deep things of God, to thrive on faith and wonder, to seek out divine wisdom that defies human logic. We were designed to unlock the mysteries of God. This is Breathing Underwater.

Inspiration and Theme Connection

00:00:55
Speaker
Have you actually listened to the words on that intro? I listen to it again and again every time I record it. And I'm like, man, that's really good. Not because I wrote it, but because I think the Holy Spirit gave it to me. And I'm gonna just actually reiterate some of it because it plays right into what we're gonna talk about today. But before I do that, welcome to 2025. How many of you love to hear God about your new year?

Experiences of Hearing God's Word

00:01:19
Speaker
Yay, raise of hands. How many of you do not like to hear God about your new year? yeah It's okay. It doesn't actually matter which camp you're in because I have been in both. I have been in those times where I'm like, what's your word for the year God? I can't wait to hear it. I'm gonna partner with you. I have so much hope.
00:01:37
Speaker
And then there's been plenty of years where I'm like, I don't even know if I can hear another word because I've been so disappointed in the waiting for these other things to come to pass. And I don't even know if I hear God anymore. So wherever you find yourself today, that's okay. Come as you are.
00:01:53
Speaker
So how are we going to commemorate the beginning of the year together today? No, I'm not going to walk you through an exercise of hearing God's voice specifically for your year, although I love to do that. And I would encourage you to do that on your own.

Stewarding Dreams and Intentions

00:02:05
Speaker
I am actually going to bring us back to the dream space where we get to restart, if you will, a new rhythm.
00:02:16
Speaker
Many of us have been in the habit of writing down our dreams, journaling them out, making sure we're going back to them and asking God about them. And some of us haven't been so good about doing that. Some of us are just starting that. I have two membership calls that I run. Those of you who are listening, who are my members, hi, I love you guys. sir And it's really, really beautiful to journey with people and to see how God speaks in our sessions. And one of the things I've been hearing from a lot of members is lately they've been dreaming less. And now I don't know why this is. It could have to do with an individual's rhythm or it could just be something corporate that's going on. Sometimes God actually just gives us a little bit of a break ah from hearing so much intel in our night season.
00:03:00
Speaker
But sometimes those those times when we're not hearing as much are really important to just pause and go back to what he's already shown us through dreams. Maybe going back to dreams we haven't interpreted yet or going back to some that the Holy Spirit highlights that maybe we did interpret that has another layer that's ready to unfold.
00:03:19
Speaker
Whatever you're in right now with your dream life, maybe you're dreaming more than ever, maybe it's been a little quiet, but here's the thing. This is not the moment to just stop stewarding. This is a new year. Without calling it a new year's resolution, let's just use it as a time to start again.
00:03:43
Speaker
What I am gonna do is I'm gonna just set some new intentions with myself Realistic ones because I've gotten a little bit lazy in certain areas I had a dream a couple nights ago and I knew it was significant and I was so tired. I laid there. I was like, oh Margot Write that down get up and write it down get up and record it do it Just do it and I could not will myself I was so tired. It was like lead and I didn't and that's okay. There's no condemnation. And actually the Holy Spirit reminded me of that dream halfway through the day. However, I really wish I would have written it down because I would have remembered more in the moment. I remembered a chunk and I'm going to go with that. I'm not mad at myself, but man, I probably could have been using a little more discipline lately to really get up and record those dreams.
00:04:28
Speaker
So if that's you, let's just make a new commitment. Let's just relook at our rhythms. Maybe for you it is, I'm going to go to bed a little bit earlier. I'm going to go to bed with expectancy again. I'm going to put that notepad next to my bed. I'm going to keep my phone close to me so that I can voice record. Maybe you usually write them down, but you want to change it up because it hasn't been working. This is a great time to do that. So we're paying homage to the new year by saying, okay, how can we recommit to stewarding our dreams? And what do I mean by stewarding? I mean taking care of, writing them down, recording them somehow, meditating on them, keeping them before us, or at least keeping record of them. That all indicates that we have value for it, even if we don't know what it means yet.
00:05:13
Speaker
even if we're not 100% sure God is speaking through it. I believe He is, and I believe you can find Him or your your own heart. Don't get me started on that right now. But to steward means to take care of, to write down. Sometimes we don't have the revelation immediately. Sometimes it takes years. Sometimes it's just weeks. Sometimes it's a couple hours. Sometimes it's months. Sometimes, dare I say, it's decades.
00:05:38
Speaker
maybe not even in our lifetime. And I know it's really easy for this generation, mine included, for us to have that mentality of the immediate future and not actually think of the generations to come. But to think that way is is kingdom. To think that way is scriptural, and that's the way God thinks. When we read about the stories in scripture and the people, they knew what it was to hold on to a story, to hold on to a testimony, to hold on to a prophecy.
00:06:11
Speaker
to write it down. There were scribes whose whole purpose was to write down things that God was saying and things that we're doing to record it so that it could be referenced again, maybe even way past their lifetime. Man, think about your favorite prophets or prophecies in Scripture.
00:06:29
Speaker
What if they would not have actually written down or so a scribe would not have recorded what happened there or the writers of the gospels? What if they hadn't valued it the way they did or responded to the Holy Spirit and we wouldn't have had have record of any of these things Now I'm sure you're going yeah. Well, I'm not you know, the disciple John the beloved disciple I'm not writing the scriptures for you know, the canon going forward You are actually the beloved disciple. That's exactly who you are. And your purpose may not have been John's purpose, but your purpose is just as valuable to God. And when he speaks, it's with intention. So this is a part of why we got to write it down. I'm talking to myself here. I know it's really easy, not to, but let's flip that.

Significance of Epiphany and the Magi

00:07:16
Speaker
Case in point, this podcast is falling on the 6th of January, which is epiphany. This is honestly,
00:07:23
Speaker
in my top two probably favorite holidays of the whole year. This is of course a part of the Christmas story, but this is when we celebrate when the Magi came to give the gold frankincense and myrrh to Jesus.
00:07:34
Speaker
The Magi, if you listened to my epiphany podcast last year, you're going to know some of these facts, but they were so impactful to me as I have started to learn about them and just feel God's reverence for these men. They are recorded in scripture and these are men who were total pagans.
00:07:55
Speaker
who had more faith than most of us will ever have in our lifetime. And I just think it's so appropriate that it has its own holiday to commemorate this day. What can we learn from the Magi? The Magi were wise men. They were astronomers, not astrologers, astronomers.
00:08:15
Speaker
They were from the east, from Persia, most likely around um modern day Iran. But these men were of the same sect, it is believed, that Daniel was actually a part of when he was in captivity in Babylon. If you go to the story of Daniel, you'll see, I love his story, he was the only one that could actually interpret a dream for Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar asked all of his wise men, who were the Magi,
00:08:43
Speaker
if they could tell him the dream he had and interpret it and none of them could. But God chose Daniel and Daniel was able to do it and because of that Nebuchadnezzar promoted Daniel and he became kind of like the chief or the head, actually not kind of like, he became the chief of these wise men in the court of Nebuchadnezzar. That's bonkers, that's how much favor he had. But because of this, look at how God wove this all together. Those magi would have had access then to the prophecies of Daniel Daniel was getting so many prophecies at that time. He was having dreams. He was having night visions. God was showing him things about the Messiah, even specifically in Daniel 9, 24 to 27. This actually provides a timeline for the birth of the Messiah. Now these Magi would have had access to these prophecies. They also would have had access to the other Jewish ancient historical writings that Daniel had access to. So some of the prophets that we know of today, some of the scriptural writings that Daniel and the other Jews who were there in captivity would have likely had with them because they were in Babylon
00:09:53
Speaker
And because of their relationship with Daniel, the Magi probably had access to seeing those things. And they were so wise that they actually paid attention. And they continued to steward those through the years, through the hundreds and hundreds of years.
00:10:08
Speaker
from Daniel's day, hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years from Daniel's day to the time of the birth of the Messiah. This sect of Magi was passing this wisdom down and training those others ah of the Magi through the years. And that is how many scholars believe the Magi got these prophecies and knew to follow the star and knew that something was going on there.
00:10:34
Speaker
This is so amazing that these men who didn't know God at all had so much faith in the signs that they were seeing in the natural. They had so much faith in these prophecies and scriptures that weren't even from their own people, that were from these Jewish people, that they knew how to even interpret or understood interpretation enough to journey 800 to 900 miles, they believe,
00:11:02
Speaker
800-900 miles. This is by foot and on camelback people. To follow this star, to meet a king, to meet the Messiah that wasn't even the savior of their particular religion. That's how much faith they had. Y'all, they would have had to pack up their life and move.
00:11:22
Speaker
By the way, there were not likely just three wise men. We say that often, but it's because there were three gifts that we kind of automatically go with, oh, there were three the kings, three magi that came. There was likely a caravan of people that came together. They would have come together for safety reasons, but they probably would have brought their families and stuff too. so this is This is just crazy to me that they would take that much risk to follow a star that convinced that they were gonna see exactly what they thought they were gonna see.
00:11:51
Speaker
Talk about knowing the scripture. Talk about knowing prophecy. Talk about knowing the signs in the natural. They wouldn't have had access to any of those things if those prophecies weren't stewarded by those who initially stewarded it. And if they didn't have the mindset of, hey, these things matter, we need to protect them. We need to continue to consult them. We're seeking wisdom. We're seeking God.
00:12:19
Speaker
What I love is it's likely as well that these wise men had some sort of access to the prophecy that came from Balaam in Numbers 24. I'm not going to go into that whole story, but Balaam was, again, not even a godly prophet. He was a pagan prophet that God used to bless Israel.
00:12:39
Speaker
This king wanted Balaam to actually curse Israel and prophesy against them, but he wouldn't. He just wouldn't. And God actually filled his mouth with blessing for Israel, but then he prophesied about the Messiah. I'm going to read this just briefly. This is in Numbers 24, 17. He says, I see him, but not now.
00:12:59
Speaker
I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob. A scepter will rise out of Israel." And it goes on there, but a star will rise out of Jacob, a scepter out of Israel. This is one of the scriptures that scholars believe could have also been something that the Magi had done research on.
00:13:23
Speaker
Now, we look at that and we take it at face value because we are not of that same Hebraic mindset as they were in those days. But as you have been journeying with me, learning symbolism, learning metaphor, learning word pictures and all of that, that's how God speaks. But if you were from the ancient Near East, you would have known that a star usually would have referred to a king or a god or a deity of some sort.
00:13:48
Speaker
And a scepter oftentimes, most of the time, will represent royal authority. And these Magi must have known that Jacob and Israel, obviously Jacob's name was changed to Israel. Those were the Jewish people. So they knew that. So here's this prophecy talking about a king, a god coming from Israel. this human line. Isn't that so interesting in Israel? I was reading an article on this recently, and I thought this was just so fascinating. Let me read it to you. It says, Balaam also emphasizes that both the star and the scepter, or god and king, emerge from a human agent, specifically the patriarch Jacob, who is also called Israel. This means that the one who is both divine and royal will also be human.
00:14:39
Speaker
Thus the one prophesied by Balaam will be at the same time God, King, and a human being. When we read this in the context of the Gospel account, this prophecy speaks of the Messiah and its triply faceted profile. This was seen prophetically in the gifts even that were offered by the Magi

Writing and Stewarding Prophecies

00:14:59
Speaker
to the infant Jesus at his birth.
00:15:01
Speaker
According to Matthew 2, 11, the three magi or the three gifts that were brought were gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Each gift was telling Jesus' fate on earth from a particular viewpoint. Gold indicated that he would be king. Frankincense indicated that he would be God and myrrh that he would die, emphasizing his humanity.
00:15:23
Speaker
Those were the three gifts that the Magi brought and they were very intentional because they knew exactly who this person was going to be. And they knew that from the prophecies that were recorded. Okay, I hope you're picking up what I'm laying down here. I hope you're feeling the weight of this.
00:15:44
Speaker
These men received words that were that were stewarded by those before them, things that had been written down. And they had the humility and the curiosity and the hunger to be opened through centuries, to understand what this meant, to look for the signs.
00:16:02
Speaker
to do the research and get into the details. What does this mean? What does this mean? What does this mean? Oh, that symbolizes this. That symbolizes this. Oh, not only is it talking about Jacob or Israel as the Israelite people and him being king of the Jews, but it's also showing this facet of him being human.
00:16:23
Speaker
as well as being God and King. I mean, this is what we are invited into with our prophecies. This is what we are invited into with our dreams. There is so much there that can be mined. There's so much there that maybe can't be mined for another hundred years. But would you write it down? Would you steward it? Would you value it? Like the Magi, like Daniel, like the prophets for even those generations to come.
00:16:53
Speaker
Let this be an encouragement to you to today, like it is to my own heart that God is still speaking, that he wants us to know and understand. And that when we have ears to hear and eyes to see, and we learn interpretation and we learn symbolism, we will know what God is saying to us.
00:17:11
Speaker
This brings me back to how it all started. The intro to this podcast, I said, have you actually listened to the words of that? It just struck me again today, man. I love it. But it also just sounds so much like the Magi. It sounds like the children of God who are invited to be like the Magi and their hunger for the things of God. The intro says, we were designed to hunger for the deep things of God, to thrive on faith and wonder. That's where we thrive, y'all.
00:17:41
Speaker
to seek out divine wisdom that defies human logic. We were designed to unlock the mysteries of God. This is breathing underwater. This is what it means to breathe underwater, to seek out divine wisdom that defies human logic. That is what the Magi did. That is what the prophets did, to look at these ancient writings. I mean, you guys, it was so defiant towards human wisdom, to follow a star for two years likely. You know, in our stories, we always see them coming to give the gifts to the baby Jesus, but he was likely about two years old by then. Not to mention, what I also love is when the magic i go to Herod and ask, hey, where is this king? Herod takes it so seriously that he actually goes to the to the men of the day, to the to the scholars and the scribes to say, ah where was that Messiah prophesied?
00:18:35
Speaker
to actually be born and they tell him, oh, here's the prophecy. He's supposed to be you know born in Bethlehem. So even Herod had enough faith and fear of God to take that seriously. Man, I

Recommitment to Seeking Divine Wisdom

00:18:49
Speaker
just love this. How seeking out divine wisdom that defies human logic, this is what we were born for. So let's make a commitment. This is between you and yourself, and you and God. You don't have to tell me what it is, but let's make a commitment to start stewarding our dreams afresh in this new year.
00:19:07
Speaker
And let me just ask you one more question that you can even reflect upon as we end the podcast today, as we end the show.
00:19:15
Speaker
Just like the magi, they followed a star. Now they were following the star far before they actually set out on the physical journey of the star. They were tracking through all of those years. And these particular magi in this generation actually saw the fulfillment. I want you to ask yourself, what star have you been following?
00:19:39
Speaker
Has there been a particular promise? Has there been a belief or a place that you've given your faith? Have there been a specific prophetic word? Have there been some maybe less obvious nudges that you're thinking, okay, I think this is something I'm supposed to follow.
00:19:57
Speaker
likely they were journeying in all kinds of weather over those years. There were going to be nights that that star was totally hidden by clouds or by fog or that they couldn't see it. And I imagined they just kept going in the direction that it had already pointed or maybe they waited for it to appear again. But it's not, it's not a negative sign if some days you see that star clearly and other days you don't.
00:20:21
Speaker
I think that's a part of being human. I think that's a part of the journey with God and and faith and the tensions that come in, sometimes having all the faith and the clarity and other times not. But why don't you ask yourself, what is the star that you've been following?
00:20:37
Speaker
Maybe going into this new year, there have been stars that you have followed to the fulfillment. Take time to write down what those have been, the fulfillments that you've actually seen in the past. Meditate on how God led you and how you arrived at that fulfillment. And then ask yourself again, what is it that I'm following now?
00:21:00
Speaker
Okay, I'm gonna leave you with that today.
