Kendall's Hurricane Adventure

00:00:39
Kendahl
Well, hello, everybody. i hope that I sound somewhat familiar. I've been gone for a little bit, but hopefully it's not too much of a shocker to hear me again. This is Kendall, and welcome to Shut Off, Turn On, and that is my friend Julian over there on the West Coast.
00:00:57
Julian Contreras Jr
Yep, that's me letting him take the lead on this one. So just see if he's got the ah the memory for it. Yeah.
00:01:02
Kendahl
If I remember how to do this. Well, anyway, so yeah. Hey, everybody. I apologize for being gone so long. I i had the opportunity to go down the East Coast um and then kind of back up.
00:01:15
Kendahl
Fun part was is what I didn't know in the very literal beginnings of my trip is that we were going to drive right through the beginnings of a hurricane there or the the big tropical storm that hit the East Coast right in the heart of July. And all of a sudden,
00:01:32
Kendahl
We got down to our one stop and we were just literally pummeled. we were We had standing water to the top of the tires of our of our truck and our trailer.
00:01:43
Kendahl
It was just insane amount of water um to the point where we decided that we weren't going to stop.
00:01:44
Julian Contreras Jr
Oh, wow.
00:01:51
Kendahl
We just wanted to keep going because it was better to get past the storm. And so we were driving like 25 miles an hour down the middle of a freeway, just as slow as could be.
00:02:02
Julian Contreras Jr
Just like a boat almost.
00:02:04
Kendahl
It felt like it at times. We just had so much water on the road.
00:02:08
Julian Contreras Jr
Nice. And i I do want to talk about you posted a photo. You got rear-ended and ruined your brand new truck.
00:02:15
Kendahl
yeah Yeah. And well, and that was a few, that was ah like a week later.
00:02:17
Julian Contreras Jr
right.
00:02:20
Kendahl
We're in Charleston, South Carolina. And um I'm stopped at a stop, stoplight. And the person behind me came out of the lane from beside me and just went straight forward into me, busted up their car super bad.
00:02:38
Kendahl
I mean, just destroyed the whole front of their car. Well, that put me into the intersection. So I decided to be the, you know, do the right thing, move on. So I, I go to the other side of the intersection and they just take off.
00:02:50
Julian Contreras Jr
Wow.
00:02:50
Kendahl
So yeah, I'm, I'm still sitting on a bad bumper. I have to, I've, I've tried to get ahold of everybody to get it all worked out, but you know how this stuff works. It's, they want to take,
00:02:59
Julian Contreras Jr
That's right. Just put like one of those ah Hulk smash stickers on it, and then it looks

Family Beach Trip Gone Wrong?

00:03:04
Kendahl
ever
00:03:04
Julian Contreras Jr
cosmetic.
00:03:04
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:03:05
Kendahl
Those band-aids. Yeah, i mean, it still drives just fine.
00:03:06
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:03:07
Kendahl
it i mean nothing's were i mean, honestly, that that truck took a big old brunt of the ah the hit, but it's just the bumper is messed up. It just looks... It doesn't even look that bad it it At first glance, it's hard to see it, but then when you see it, you can't unsee it kind of thing, so...
00:03:22
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:03:24
Kendahl
But...
00:03:24
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay. Awesome.
00:03:26
Kendahl
Yeah, it's, you know, it was good, but we had a good time. I mean, we had, we had most of my kids with me. Um, even my adult children, we had, we had one of them with us and, um, we, we really just had a, ah ah really nice time just kind of relaxing, taking, uh,
00:03:42
Kendahl
You know, it real slow. and The funny thing was we actually ended up cutting the the trip short by a couple days because originally we were going to spend a few days in Virginia Beach. And then what we ended up doing was um just doing an overnighter and just booking at home because we were all cooked.
00:03:59
Kendahl
Literally, we'd we had gotten super sunburned a couple days prior because we were out on the Atlantic Ocean on a boat. And we stayed out there for four hours and, you know, we're super pale Irish heritage white people out in the middle of nowhere with, you know, as much sunscreen as you can put on apparently is still not enough.
00:04:22
Kendahl
And we were doing it like every 45 minutes and we still literally roasted like a chicken. It was terrible.
00:04:27
Julian Contreras Jr
nice did you ever watch the movie fools rush in with matthew perry okay i don't know if i'm allowed to say the line but you might be able to where the dad's talking to him about sunscreen on the lake
00:04:30
Kendahl
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
00:04:39
Kendahl
ah i I remember it, but I don't remember the line you're talking about.
00:04:43
Julian Contreras Jr
oh okay yeah
00:04:43
Kendahl
But yeah. No, because that's that but that's ah that's the truth. It's just like you're just roasting out there. Like you are just as โ€“ yeah. Anyway, so โ€“ yeah.
00:04:52
Julian Contreras Jr
case you haven't noticed, we're melting out here.
00:04:56
Kendahl
we
00:04:57
Julian Contreras Jr
He says some other stuff, but I'm not sure I'm allowed to say it.
00:04:57
Kendahl
We โ€“ yeah, I know. we ah So yeah, my um my oldest daughter, my my wife and I, we we were bright red. I mean, bright red so bad.
00:05:10
Kendahl
I'm still doing the the stuff because my back is itching like crazy because it's still that bad.
00:05:15
Julian Contreras Jr
Wow.
00:05:17
Kendahl
So anyway, it was good. It was fun. um i i did have the chance to watch a couple of movies while we were out, which was kind of fun. um And we'll talk about those today.
00:05:25
Julian Contreras Jr
yep
00:05:26
Kendahl
But

Fantastic Four Movie Preview

00:05:27
Kendahl
ah how about?
00:05:27
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, we have a very heavy movie focused review episode.
00:05:33
Kendahl
yeah Yeah, which I think is good, though, because um we're going to talk about some movies that are streaming.
00:05:35
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:05:39
Kendahl
We're going to talk about some movies that are coming to streaming. We're going talk about some movies that are still in the theaters. And we're going to talk about movies that are um I think are kind of in that limbo between both of them.
00:05:50
Kendahl
So, ah yeah, I mean, honestly, that's that's that's the good part about our show is that today we get to talk about some some really fun movies.
00:05:50
Julian Contreras Jr
yeah
00:05:57
Kendahl
Our heavy hitter that we're going to really talk a lot more, I think, about overall is going to be Fantastic Four. um
00:06:03
Julian Contreras Jr
Yep. yep
00:06:04
Kendahl
just a foreshadowing. um you know Fantastic Four definitely has made a mark in the change that Marvel is going.
00:06:16
Kendahl
I'll say that to start.
00:06:16
Julian Contreras Jr
okay
00:06:17
Kendahl
so But outside of that, during that time frame, how about you? I know i know you did her a one-on by yourself.
00:06:24
Julian Contreras Jr
Yep. Free and solo.
00:06:25
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:06:25
Julian Contreras Jr
It went pretty well.
00:06:26
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:06:27
Julian Contreras Jr
I was very streamlined. Like I told the listeners, it's, it's hard to keep talking. Just looking at myself here, like pretending I'm at a Ted talk. I know I have to take breaths and all this other stuff, but I like doing it.
00:06:40
Julian Contreras Jr
I think I'm getting a little better at it. So I'm going to, I try to do them as much as I can, but I was really hard because I had a lot of work and stuff to get to different movies, but that's all over with now.
00:06:51
Kendahl
yeah
00:06:52
Julian Contreras Jr
The work stuff, So we're good. It's almost that time where it's just going to be fall and winter and all you can do is go to the theater. So I'm super excited for that.
00:07:01
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:07:02
Julian Contreras Jr
There's one coming up here that we're going to talk about at the very, very end, which is why we're going to have a quick turnaround episode and we'll be going to be back Saturday morning.
00:07:12
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:07:12
Julian Contreras Jr
But before that, nothing has happened really with me. But Kendall has something he found at a swap meet or a yard sale something.
00:07:22
Kendahl
Yeah. I was just going tell you
00:07:24
Julian Contreras Jr
And he's super excited to open some.

Vintage Baseball Card Obsession

00:07:27
Kendahl
Yeah. So, okay. So you guys know that that Julian and i both are are pretty big sports fanatics. One of the things that I got into when I was a kid was โ€“ getting baseball cards. Like that's, that was one of the things I really did for a long time.
00:07:40
Kendahl
And then more recently, because somehow I'm in like this midlife crisis level of my my days, knock I won't call it that, but I've really gotten back into the vintage ah baseball card finding, right?
00:07:53
Kendahl
I go, whenever I go somewhere, I look for vintage baseball cards. Well, um a little while back, I found
00:07:58
Julian Contreras Jr
Thank you.
00:08:01
Kendahl
a full set of 1986 Topps baseball cards. I was ecstatic because it had all the wonderful players that I remembered, except one. It didn't have Barry Bonds. And that's, you know, that's kind of the 1986 Barry Bonds. is that's a That's a unicorn of baseball cards. But what I did find was i there's a baseball card shop just south of me that's closing down.
00:08:24
Kendahl
um All they do is all this old vintage cards. baseball cards and they had boxes like literally straight up like when you used to go to the grocery store and they'd have a box of the ah the wax ah baseball card packs.
00:08:40
Kendahl
ah Typically, this one has 15 bubblegum, it says bubblegum pack cards. um So you would go and buy these and they were like 50 cents, right?
00:08:51
Kendahl
When we were kids, that's what it was. It was like 50 cents.
00:08:53
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:08:53
Kendahl
And so i used to buy those all the time. Well, this guy had a whole box of them that had never been opened. A full box, like we're talking 40, think it was like 45 packs total.
00:09:04
Kendahl
Never been touched. Still in their original box. So for the ASMR, I'm going to show this to Julian. Here you go. Can you guys hear it? Oh, yeah. Hear that wax paper? Uh-huh.
00:09:16
Kendahl
Now, you guys can't see it, but the crazy part is is this is a 1990 MLB Topps baseball card wax ah set.
00:09:27
Kendahl
Now, ah Julian, you can see this.
00:09:32
Julian Contreras Jr
That gum is still in immaculate shape.
00:09:32
Kendahl
It is a
00:09:35
Kendahl
It looks like you can just chew it.
00:09:37
Julian Contreras Jr
I know you sent me a picture earlier in the week and you didn't eat any the gum. Would you want to eat it right now?
00:09:43
Kendahl
No. You know what? Okay, so when we were kids, when we were kids, that stuff broke your jaw when you were when we were kids in the 90s. Because this stuff was rock hard back then.
00:09:51
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:09:54
Kendahl
This is 35 years old. no thank you.
00:09:58
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay.
00:09:59
Kendahl
No thank you, sir.
00:10:00
Julian Contreras Jr
I just figured this was your this is our platform. We're going to give it a shot.
00:10:04
Kendahl
Okay. Okay. First out the gate, 1990, Mark McGuire.
00:10:07
Julian Contreras Jr
Mark McGuire.
00:10:10
Kendahl
That's pretty cool. I'm trying to think if there's any other in here that are that are worth it. um
00:10:18
Kendahl
Cecil Espy, I don't remember that name. Yeah, George Brett. That's the fun part. Seeing all these names you've never even heard of, you're like, sure, that that's sure.
00:10:29
Julian Contreras Jr
Sure, OK.
00:10:31
Kendahl
All right, so there's one. oh and then here's the other thing. I can, if you want, I can send in to get a free card pack from them for $8.
00:10:40
Julian Contreras Jr
Is that a QR code?
00:10:42
Kendahl
Yeah, that it's like a no, it's a it's like, do you do you see it?
00:10:46
Julian Contreras Jr
Oh, OK. Yeah, it's a pay. It looked like a QR code. is like I was like, have doubts this is from the ninety s
00:10:50
Kendahl
And it... well And it has, it has a, like, there's, there's like five different ones you can get. You can get a baseball cap, um a binder set. um This one is a free exciting new magazine from MLB.
00:11:06
Kendahl
It's a top magazine thing. So I know that's kind of, it's kind of cool. Let's see. Oh, here you go. Do you remember this guy?
00:11:17
Julian Contreras Jr
Matt Williams, no.
00:11:18
Kendahl
Matt Williams, he was ah he was a really big big hitter back in the day. All right, Ruben Sierra, he was a big homerun hitter back then.
00:11:24
Julian Contreras Jr
No.
00:11:28
Kendahl
right, so some of you guys might remember some of these if you're old enough to remember. Oh, here you go, here you go. This is definitely name you remember.
00:11:34
Julian Contreras Jr
Ricky Henderson, yeah.
00:11:36
Kendahl
There you go.
00:11:36
Julian Contreras Jr
and know that one.
00:11:37
Kendahl
So there's a few good ones. that's This was like, man, opening this on with you has been the best so far.
00:11:47
Julian Contreras Jr
I'm glad you saved the best.
00:11:47
Kendahl
i I did. i saved the best for last, apparently, not even knowing it. I did pick up a King Griffey Jr. in the in the last set that I opened just before setting aside these these ones.
00:11:58
Julian Contreras Jr
All right, let's let's do one more and then we'll jump into movies.
00:11:58
Kendahl
So that's good. I'm all for opening up one more. And still, Bubblegum is in perfect shape.
00:12:04
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. Yeah.
00:12:07
Kendahl
And it still smells like the Bubblegum, too, you know? It still smells like the Bubblegum. ah Oh, hey, Ryan Sandberg. do you remember him? Another big hitter.
00:12:15
Julian Contreras Jr
I know Andy Samberg.
00:12:17
Kendahl
andy Andy Sandberg. yeah and he was He was a big hitter back in the day. Somehow this has all managers in it. That's weird. Nobody wants managers.
00:12:29
Kendahl
Anyway. All right. So that was fun. Those are kind of cool. um But yeah, so actually with the one the one pack I opened up, it had a rare Nolan Ryan card in there.
00:12:40
Kendahl
was worth $550.
00:12:42
Julian Contreras Jr
Wow.
00:12:43
Kendahl
It just, that was the most recent eBay sell of it. yeah.
00:12:47
Julian Contreras Jr
Nice.
00:12:48
Kendahl
Anyway, yeah, so they're cool.
00:12:48
Julian Contreras Jr
That's cool, man.
00:12:49
Kendahl
They're fun. For me, it's not about making the money off of them. It's just about exactly what did on this show. Just open it up. Find some fun players from our childhood. Guys that we looked up as as heroes until we found out that they were roiding their way through the MLB, but that's okay.
00:13:06
Julian Contreras Jr
Wow.
00:13:08
Kendahl
Just keeping it real.
00:13:09
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:13:10
Kendahl
All right, so ah really quickly, so do you want to um you want to go over a couple of the movies that that you saw?
00:13:17
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, let's just do, I'll do one, you do one. Because we watched four, not together, and then Fantastic Four, we both did see. So that's where we're going to focus the most conversation.
00:13:25
Kendahl
yeah
00:13:29
Kendahl
Yeah, sounds good.
00:13:30
Julian Contreras Jr
All right, so I will start. This one's on Netflix. It just got there. i was going to see it in the theater. I missed it because I was on vacation. But it is Until Dawn. That video game.
00:13:41
Kendahl
See, I was, yeah, I literally just pre-show, I was talking to Julian. and I was like, oh man, I totally forgot about this one. And I didn't realize it was on Netflix. But yeah, this is a ah based on the video game where you can change the the outcome of the game according to how you play it.
00:13:58
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, that's not how the movie goes. But and ah for video game standards of movies, this one is actually pretty good.
00:14:00
Kendahl
Yeah,
00:14:06
Julian Contreras Jr
I liked it. A lot of jump scares, lot of cool creatures.
00:14:13
Julian Contreras Jr
I did get with somebody and ask questions about, does this happen in the video game? Like to the movie, this happens. She said, absolutely not. That was probably just for the movie.
00:14:22
Kendahl
yeah, yeah.
00:14:23
Julian Contreras Jr
But it was really cool.
00:14:23
Kendahl
Okay.
00:14:25
Julian Contreras Jr
like I liked it a lot. The cast was good. It was a lot of younger people. And then that one actor that plays the replacer for Call of Duty.
00:14:34
Kendahl
Oh, yeah. yeah
00:14:35
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, I'm not sure his name and I'm not going to look it up right now.
00:14:36
Kendahl
I don't know.
00:14:37
Julian Contreras Jr
But you guys will figure it out who it is. So he's pretty cool in it.
00:14:43
Julian Contreras Jr
I give it a six mainly because it's a video game movie and I had a lot of fun.
00:14:49
Kendahl
Okay.
00:14:49
Julian Contreras Jr
Is it going a great award winner? No, absolutely not. That's probably why I was only in theater for like two or three weeks.
00:14:56
Kendahl
Yeah, it went it went out pretty fast.
00:14:56
Julian Contreras Jr
But I have...
00:14:58
Kendahl
Well, I heard a lot of... and so I heard a lot of like on both aisle sides of the aisle for it, that it was a good movie with respect to disregarding everything about the video game.
00:15:09
Kendahl
But if you were a video game fan and, and like you were like fanboying over the idea this movie being something you played and then went saw it, you were going to be disappointed, like seeing the rock and doom way back when it's nothing like it, right?
00:15:24
Julian Contreras Jr
yeah
00:15:25
Kendahl
It's not the movie or the game that you wanted.
00:15:28
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. And I had never played the video game, so going in, i was like, okay, yeah, this is all pretty cool. They're in the cabin, the sign of the book, the night's starting over and over again.
00:15:38
Julian Contreras Jr
and every time they seem to die, no matter what way it was, that kind of left a mark on their body. Like if they got their face kind of smashed, they were bruised up the next go-round.
00:15:47
Kendahl
Mm Mm hmm.
00:15:51
Kendahl
Right.
00:15:52
Julian Contreras Jr
and it kind of jumps days, like it goes from one, two, three days. And then all of a sudden it's like a montage of five through 10. And they eventually get to the last day and they have to figure stuff out.
00:16:03
Julian Contreras Jr
But it was a lot of fun. If you have a time off, get some popcorn, couple pieces of the candy, you're good to go.
00:16:06
Kendahl
Cool. All
00:16:12
Kendahl
right. Yeah, I mean, it's actually one i'll um I'm going to put on my list. So,

Movie Reviews: Elio and Happy Gilmore 2

00:16:18
Kendahl
all right. So I, my first movie I'm going to talk about is one that it it might still be in theaters, depending on where you are, because it still is sort of new.
00:16:28
Kendahl
um It's the Pixar film Elio. So um we went and saw this literally like two days before we left on vacation. And I will tell you, Disney did a horrible job at one thing for this movie.
00:16:43
Kendahl
Not the storyline, not the movie itself. It is giving people the interest and the idea of what the movie was about. They did such a poor job of that. Because every preview, everything I saw about this movie, I went and saw it because I thought my kids might enjoy Because they were asking me about it.
00:17:01
Kendahl
And I had no hopes of enjoying this movie. Absolutely just the opposite. This was a great movie. It was it was actually I loved it.
00:17:09
Julian Contreras Jr
You liked it and they hated it?
00:17:11
Kendahl
i really did. I will watch it again when it comes out. I will watch it again. and This movie did a very, very good job of um drawing you into the the idea that this boy is struggling.
00:17:27
Kendahl
So it's about this boy, Elio, who loses both his parents and he has to go live with his aunt who lives on an army um like base that they are. Their whole job is to monitor um satellite transmissions.
00:17:46
Kendahl
And so they're listening to to satellite and radio frequencies from outside of the the spectrum of of the Earth's atmosphere. So like, you know, technically alien life, but they really basically say in there, that's not what we're looking for.
00:18:00
Kendahl
But then they also are looking at like traffic and inside of the the airspace within the united would not the United States, but within the in the world. And then they get a signal that they don't understand.
00:18:14
Kendahl
Well, Elio, who's desperately trying to find a placement in this world and can't, thinks that he happens to hear them talk about an out of out of this world message.
00:18:25
Kendahl
And he thinks that's the only way that he's going to be able to find happiness. So he kind of gets into trouble, destroys a bunch of equipment, but does send out a signal.
00:18:37
Kendahl
And that signal gets caught by these aliens that then go and find him. And, you know, it goes into true nature of of Disney. Parents are lost. So now he has to, like, make friends with the enemy. And, I mean, it's it's really good.
00:18:52
Kendahl
Overall, I think Disney did a terrible job of advertising this. I think you should see it if you've got kids. They'll love it. If you're an adult and you like Disney movies, you're going to like this, too.
00:19:04
Kendahl
um a I honestly, I'm going to give it, like, a seven and a half, eight. Like it was really, it was actually really good.
00:19:09
Julian Contreras Jr
Wow.
00:19:11
Kendahl
um Far better than anything i could have I could have imagined it to be. Because like I said, I went in there with no expectation of enjoying it. And I found myself more engaged than my kids were at a few months. Because it is, it's it's good.
00:19:25
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay.
00:19:26
Kendahl
It's good. Yeah.
00:19:28
Julian Contreras Jr
And that one, i don't know if it's still in theaters, but it should be on Disney Plus any time now, right?
00:19:33
Kendahl
I think it's going to be in Disney Plus after the after um this summer.
00:19:33
Julian Contreras Jr
They're doing pretty good about...
00:19:37
Kendahl
So it should be like late August, early September is I think what they're looking at projecting wise.
00:19:43
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay. Not too bad.
00:19:44
Kendahl
So, yeah.
00:19:47
Julian Contreras Jr
All right.
00:19:48
Kendahl
But...
00:19:48
Julian Contreras Jr
So the next one I watched, I was looking super forward to it for years now. Netflix has it. It's an original. We've all seen the ah part one.
00:20:00
Julian Contreras Jr
That's what we're going to call it.
00:20:00
Kendahl
yeah
00:20:02
Julian Contreras Jr
Happy Gilmore 2.
00:20:04
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:20:06
Julian Contreras Jr
I thought it was going to be not great, horrible, Totally no point of it. And I was surprisingly okay with how they did it.
00:20:21
Kendahl
Okay.
00:20:22
Julian Contreras Jr
There's been a lot of reviews out there of people that are like, it was a basically a really long TikTok movie where it would just was scenes. And two minutes was a joke. And then every two minutes, yeah.
00:20:36
Julian Contreras Jr
I don't know. I liked it. I watched it with my entire family down here. It was fun. It was irreverent at times. But that's Happy Gilmore for you. Is it going to be the 19...
00:20:45
Kendahl
was gonna say that that was the first one. The first one was that way.
00:20:48
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, exactly. Is it going to be the original 1996 version? Of course not. I mean, that came out... We were kids. Everything was funny to us that had poo-poo and fart jokes.
00:21:00
Julian Contreras Jr
So basically what it was.
00:21:01
Kendahl
yeah
00:21:04
Julian Contreras Jr
i liked it quite a bit. I give it a 7. I'll definitely watch it again. There were cameos galore in this, Kendall.
00:21:13
Kendahl
i I saw something today. So I admittedly, I tried to start it. I must not have been in the right mood because I just couldn't get into it. I wasn't like, I just, it wasn't that I wasn't enjoying it. I just couldn't stay in in, in, into it at all. And so I just turned it off because I was like, I don't want to mess it up.
00:21:30
Kendahl
I'd rather just have the conversation of what like this.
00:21:31
Julian Contreras Jr
and
00:21:33
Kendahl
um But one of the things that came up on, on a feed of mine was all the cameos. And holy cow, there's a ton.
00:21:39
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. Yeah. He was learning how to play golf again because he hadn't picked up the clubs in forever because something happened. ah One of the people playing golf was Margaret Qualley.
00:21:51
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. She's been doing all these big movies and coming around and all she's playing... Sally that plays golf. Like, I was like, oh my goodness.
00:21:58
Kendahl
That's funny.
00:22:00
Julian Contreras Jr
Post Malone, he was in there towards the end.
00:22:03
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:22:03
Julian Contreras Jr
He played DJ Omar Gerd.
00:22:08
Julian Contreras Jr
It's pretty funny.
00:22:08
Kendahl
Okay.
00:22:11
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, there's not much...
00:22:11
Kendahl
I heard like his normal posse was all in it. Mm-hmm.
00:22:14
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, of course. All of them. They all played small different parts. They were all going to come there.
00:22:17
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:22:18
Julian Contreras Jr
ah Both of his daughters, his wife had her cameo super early. She actually stuck a raw around a little longer than usual in his movies.
00:22:24
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:22:28
Kendahl
Hmm.
00:22:28
Julian Contreras Jr
She had a bigger part.
00:22:32
Kendahl
That's cool.
00:22:32
Julian Contreras Jr
So, I mean, people are going to hate it because they're so attached to and well-deserving the original Happy Gilmore. Great. Absolutely awesome. We can quote it. We can watch it all the time. We'll watch the TNT version with commercials all day.
00:22:49
Kendahl
Right.
00:22:50
Julian Contreras Jr
But yeah, i I thought they did a really good job.
00:22:54
Kendahl
Well, I mean, I think it it it knew what it was. um We all know that um Adam Sandler has a Netflix connection right now. And so that's why there's kind of all these odds in the movies that keeps coming up with his name on it.
00:23:07
Kendahl
and So, I mean, I think they knew who what it was about and he knew what it was going to be. yeah i've I've seen I've seen a lot of negative reviews and I'm thinking to myself, they're not.
00:23:19
Kendahl
It's not about being a good movie or not.
00:23:22
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, it was what it was. And it was it was a little long in the tooth. It was almost two hours long.
00:23:29
Kendahl
Oh, wow.
00:23:29
Julian Contreras Jr
felt it could have been a tad shorter, but then you would have lost about 35 cameos.
00:23:29
Kendahl
Okay.
00:23:33
Julian Contreras Jr
So you got to get your buddies in there.
00:23:34
Kendahl
There you go. Oh my goodness. All right. um So next movie.
00:23:43
Julian Contreras Jr
Yep, this one's yours.
00:23:43
Kendahl
All right.

Live-Action How to Train Your Dragon Review

00:23:44
Kendahl
So i so on our on my break, I decided to buy How to Train Your Dragon and watch it at home. And I will tell you right now, i don't know if you actually went and saw this in theaters.
00:23:56
Kendahl
Did you end up seeing it?
00:23:56
Julian Contreras Jr
No, not yet.
00:23:57
Kendahl
So I'll tell you, um this is ah hands down. It's a shot for shot of the of the cartoon. um Love that or hate that this was a great movie.
00:24:11
Kendahl
um You could have never seen the other one and very much enjoyed this one. You could have loved that other one to death and still love this one just as much. um the the casting is great. They bring Gerard Butler back as stoic. um the the There's a lot of elements ah that honestly in this film made me go back to think, okay, was that in the first one? Because I don't remember that.
00:24:40
Kendahl
And I think it's because it's live action and the portrayal and the emotions are a little bit more charismatic, right? They're more they're they're they're more seen, understood.
00:24:47
Julian Contreras Jr
Amen.
00:24:50
Kendahl
there's There's more feeling to what's happening. And so I didn't recognize some of the character development elements that were in the first one, but like, it's good. I mean, they they literally, it's a shot for shot. And a few shots are different.
00:25:06
Kendahl
You don't feel it. you don't You don't recognize it as being, oh, that's so different. It fits. It fits in the narrative that they're trying to portray with the same idea that it's a boy and his dog film. Right.
00:25:18
Kendahl
That's really what it is. Hiccup and toothless. But um yeah. And the design is amazing. It's gorgeous. The film is absolutely gorgeous. um And like I said, I mean, I I really enjoy this. I'm this is one of those rare times. I'm going to give it 10.
00:25:35
Kendahl
Hands down.
00:25:35
Julian Contreras Jr
Wow.
00:25:36
Kendahl
I'm going to give it a 10 because this is probably one of the the I was more engaged with this movie that I've been in and engaged in a movie in a long time. It was it was just really, really well done.
00:25:50
Kendahl
And I don't have any negatives to it. And what negatives I do have to it or not are not anything other than the same negatives I would give the cartoon. right So it's not the the animation um for like Toothless and the dragons is just phenomenal.
00:26:06
Kendahl
You don't and you don't really feel like they're that drastically different from the animated, um you know, early 2000s version. So it just I don't know. I can't say enough about it. its It is really good. This is hands down a live action that they did right.
00:26:22
Kendahl
They did it right.
00:26:25
Julian Contreras Jr
Wow.
00:26:25
Kendahl
So, yeah, if you if you have a chance.
00:26:27
Julian Contreras Jr
I did not expect you to give an eight and a 10 for these two movies.
00:26:31
Kendahl
Well, I'm telling you, Elio was really, really good. I was surprised at how good it was. um And How to Turn Your Dragon, this with all the the live action that's been coming out lately and the trash that it's been...
00:26:44
Kendahl
this This one didn't fall into that realm because they did exactly what they were supposed to. Make the movie as live action. Don't try to play with the narrative. Don't try to play with the character designs. Don't try to play with the story ideas.
00:26:58
Kendahl
Just make the movie live action because that's what people wanted. They wanted to see it in a different format, not see it completely different. So...
00:27:09
Julian Contreras Jr
is Is that what we were doing? We were we wanted this? Like we were clamoring for a live action?
00:27:13
Kendahl
I don't think we wanted this.
00:27:14
Julian Contreras Jr
OK.
00:27:15
Kendahl
I don't think anybody wanted it, but I'm telling you right now, if they make, if they make a second one, I'm definitely going to theaters and seeing it. There's not even a question about it.
00:27:22
Julian Contreras Jr
OK.
00:27:23
Kendahl
So it's, it is.
00:27:23
Julian Contreras Jr
I mean, there was, what, one or was there three of those?
00:27:27
Kendahl
There's three.
00:27:28
Julian Contreras Jr
OK.
00:27:29
Kendahl
Yeah. But yeah, absolutely. i mean, this, this is the success story of live action from animation for sure. hundred percent.
00:27:36
Julian Contreras Jr
OK.
00:27:36
Kendahl
Great, great, great movie. All right.
00:27:39
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay, um I kind of want to ask a good question just to see what what rating did you give Aladdin live action?
00:27:48
Kendahl
yeah I'd give it a four. was terrible. It's just...
00:27:51
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay, see, and I liked Aladdin.
00:27:53
Kendahl
Did you really?
00:27:54
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:27:55
Kendahl
that ah Every single bit of acting in that movie was just phoned in. it To me, I couldn't... the fa Maybe it was the facial expressions, but just nobody was real in that movie.
00:28:08
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay. That's fine.
00:28:09
Kendahl
That's...
00:28:09
Julian Contreras Jr
I just seeing where the spectrum was here. but got an 8 and a 10 and a 4 for something that I like. Maybe I should go watch these two. I don't know. Anyway, let's move on. Let's get rid of the ah ah kid movies. Let's talk about this kind of kid movie.
00:28:26
Julian Contreras Jr
We finally both saw a movie together.
00:28:29
Kendahl
Uh-huh.
00:28:29
Julian Contreras Jr
Not together, but you know.
00:28:30
Kendahl
Yep. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:28:31
Julian Contreras Jr
but burn It's been a while since we've done that because we don't watch the same stuff anymore.
00:28:34
Kendahl
That's true.

Fantastic Four Movie Opinions

00:28:38
Kendahl
Which is good. I mean, there's times that that's that's helpful because then you can say something to a movie that I'm not so interested in and and vice versa, you know
00:28:46
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay. Of course, we're talking about Fantastic Four. We talked about this at the beginning of the episode. There might be some spoilers here. It's been a week. and I probably won't give too much away because, I mean, it's just about looks and visuals.
00:29:02
Julian Contreras Jr
The story is what the story is.
00:29:03
Kendahl
Yeah, ah za I don't think there's too much to give away. I mean, the the trailers alone tell a large portion of the story. So.
00:29:10
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. right. I'm going to let you go. First.
00:29:17
Kendahl
OK, so I I have to say I'm going to start this out with my rating.
00:29:17
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:29:24
Kendahl
I'm going to start with my rating.
00:29:24
Julian Contreras Jr
All right. Okay.
00:29:26
Kendahl
My rating on this is I'm going to give it an 8. I am. I'm giving it an 8.
00:29:32
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay.
00:29:32
Kendahl
This is Marvel finally packing a punch in the realm of what they used to be. i we have We have beat on Marvel over and over again for the last several movies because is they they deserved it. it was They were terrible.
00:29:49
Kendahl
I mean, Thunderbolts was an exception, but even Thunderbolts had its nuances that were like, yeah it was good, but This movie hit it out of the park. i I didn't even recognize the time that went by.
00:30:04
Kendahl
That's when you know it's a good movie when you don't even know how long you've been. Like you're not looking at your watch going, oh my gosh, how much more time do I have?
00:30:10
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:30:11
Kendahl
um My son, I took my son to go see it with me and he he's like, Dad, I need to go to the bathroom. right This is a really good part. I need to go to the bathroom.
00:30:22
Julian Contreras Jr
Just go, son.
00:30:22
Kendahl
And this was, I know, i was like, just go, dude, just go.
00:30:23
Julian Contreras Jr
Just go. Mm-hmm.
00:30:25
Kendahl
And I was thinking to myself, well, um we we must have a lot of time still left because I didn't recognize how much time had passed. the The point at which he went to the bathroom was the point at which they decided to um bring in the teleportation stuff.
00:30:42
Kendahl
that That's, I mean, I'm not giving too much away, but you you know that that's, I mean, that's pretty far into the movie.
00:30:45
Julian Contreras Jr
No.
00:30:49
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:30:50
Kendahl
And I didn't recognize how far we were into it. I mean, in the sense of like timeframe. And so i you know, I am, going to give it an eight. And I think this, this movie, it didn't try to reinvent who the Fantastic Four are.
00:31:04
Kendahl
It, it didn't try to give some major backstory like every other one wants to do.
00:31:04
Julian Contreras Jr
Right.
00:31:10
Julian Contreras Jr
Mm-hmm.
00:31:10
Kendahl
Well, in the comic books, it never did give a massive long backstory. It was just like, hey, they went to space, got hit with cosmic rays, came back, and now they got superpowers. That's pretty much what the comic books did.
00:31:22
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. Okay.
00:31:22
Kendahl
But every other movie wants to make this huge, elaborate storyline around it. And they want to make all these other factors involved. And it's like, no one cares about that.
00:31:34
Kendahl
And that's why those movies failed. I really feel like that's why those movies failed. Um... And I like how i did like how they put a lot of time into the thing in this one um outside of like the other films. Right.
00:31:50
Kendahl
There's a there's a lot more emphasis on who he who he is. he how he's struggling with who he is and the the feelings that he has of trying to be normal, but he knows he can't be, you know.
00:32:02
Kendahl
So I like that. I like that part of it.
00:32:05
Julian Contreras Jr
All right.
00:32:06
Kendahl
But ah coolest part of the whole film, Galactic, when he stands up out of his chair the and he's like, you could finally see the the whole personage in that he is.
00:32:20
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:32:20
Kendahl
its That's cool. That was really cool.
00:32:22
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay.
00:32:23
Kendahl
I think they did a really great job of the character design because, you know, it's all CGI, but man, they did a good job.
00:32:30
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, for sure. Okay. um I don't know where to start on this. I thought this one was anything but fantastic. I absolutely thought this movie was completely useless, unnecessary, and everything.
00:32:49
Julian Contreras Jr
And I'm just saying that for shock value because I did like it a lot.
00:32:51
Kendahl
ah I was going to say, hold on, wait a second here. You've got to be kidding me. I'm thinking myself, no, no, you can't. You've got to be messing with me at this one.
00:32:59
Julian Contreras Jr
I give it a zero.
00:33:01
Kendahl
yeah
00:33:01
Julian Contreras Jr
who was.
00:33:02
Kendahl
but That was the next thing I was waiting for.
00:33:02
Julian Contreras Jr
um
00:33:06
Julian Contreras Jr
The rating was in the title. It was a four. It was. No. ah I really did like it. I'm going reiterate some of your points. I did really enjoy that they didn't cram their backstory down our throats.
00:33:20
Julian Contreras Jr
It took five minutes in a montage of back scenes. Great. That's all we need. We've had three of these other movies before. We don't need to go over that again.
00:33:30
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:33:31
Julian Contreras Jr
That's fine.
00:33:33
Julian Contreras Jr
ah Vanessa Kirby being pregnant and having the baby. I didn't read comics far enough to hit. I don't know if that character exists. Baby Franklin.
00:33:43
Kendahl
Yep.
00:33:43
Julian Contreras Jr
What he grows up to be.
00:33:45
Kendahl
His name's powerhouse.
00:33:45
Julian Contreras Jr
Or what... Okay. Don't know any of that. So that was new to me, which was cool because in the past there was no baby.
00:33:53
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:33:53
Julian Contreras Jr
It was a good little segue.
00:33:57
Julian Contreras Jr
Did I enjoy that they didn't call themselves The Thing, Invisigirl, Captain Stretch, what's his name?
00:34:07
Kendahl
ah
00:34:08
Julian Contreras Jr
because they don't say it they don't say human torch they all went by just our first names and i was like okay this is cool i like this it humanized them more yeah and then you didn't even see it until the credits roll and it says uh professor reed and whatever his character was and like well they didn't even say the thing did they call him the thing at all besides like that little flashback cartoon
00:34:09
Kendahl
No, can't even think of it. No. Yeah.
00:34:17
Kendahl
It was Reed, and it was Susie, and it was Johnny. Yeah.
00:34:28
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:34:36
Kendahl
The people did. There was people that did. But otherwise, i think they just called him. It wasn't.
00:34:41
Julian Contreras Jr
Ben.
00:34:42
Kendahl
It was Ben. Yeah, they just called him Ben.
00:34:43
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. Okay. Really liked that part. Didn't have to call them by their names.
00:34:46
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:34:49
Julian Contreras Jr
there I do say the whole part where he grows the beard.
00:34:55
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:34:55
Julian Contreras Jr
didn't know that he could do that.
00:34:59
Kendahl
Yeah, ah that's pretty cool.
00:34:59
Julian Contreras Jr
this
00:35:00
Kendahl
I liked it.
00:35:01
Julian Contreras Jr
What's his face as Johnny Blaze? Really liked it, but I still can't really see him pass anything besides Eddie.
00:35:09
Kendahl
Right? From Stranger Things, everybody, by the way.
00:35:12
Julian Contreras Jr
yeah i think they knew where i was going with it
00:35:12
Kendahl
Yeah. Yeah, no, it's the whole time, that's what I was thinking. I was like, oh, man, I just can't. The long hair Eddie, that's all I kept thinking about.
00:35:20
Julian Contreras Jr
yeah and then pedro pascal i mean obviously he always knocks it out of the park i mean you you guys heard my review on eddington killed it on that one too great actor fantastic work
00:35:34
Julian Contreras Jr
I guess just keep putting him in everything.
00:35:36
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:35:37
Julian Contreras Jr
Just at one point, the theater is going to have like five movies.
00:35:38
Kendahl
Well, and I like
00:35:41
Julian Contreras Jr
Like which page Pedro movie do you want to see today?
00:35:44
Kendahl
Right. um I love how they they made Reed so... So Reed Richards is such a crazy character in the Marvel Universe because there there are conspiracy theories that says that Reed Richards is actually the megamind behind the TVA, by the way.
00:36:08
Kendahl
Just so you know. like there's There's that whole... like fan theory that he is the one that creates the um the whole time situation that Loki gets into, right?
00:36:20
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay.
00:36:20
Kendahl
So, um and it's because he is just this genius that knows how to figure out time and and and all this other stuff.
00:36:30
Kendahl
But what's interesting about him in this movie, that they did a really great job according to like realism to the comics, Reed Richards is always this hesitant guy.
00:36:42
Kendahl
He doesn't just jump feet first into everything. He always has to analyze everything before he does anything.
00:36:47
Julian Contreras Jr
but Yeah, and you could you could see him doing that too, even the stuff that involved his son. like she thinks She's talking about it. She's like, well, he wouldn't have said that unless you've already thought of that that's the only way.
00:36:59
Kendahl
Right. Right.
00:36:59
Julian Contreras Jr
And he's like, well, of course, I have to think all these dark things before they can do the dark things.
00:37:05
Kendahl
right
00:37:05
Julian Contreras Jr
And I was like, yeah, get off his back, Sue.
00:37:09
Kendahl
But that's that's the thing, though, is that that's who Reed Richards was, right? Reed Richards is always this guy that just he analyzes every bit of detail. And my son and I were talking about this, that they looked we loved how that's what they put in here, too, though.
00:37:23
Kendahl
I mean, like, Pedro Pascal's, um like, rendition of Reed Richards was so great because even when he wasn't saying anything,
00:37:33
Kendahl
Pedro Pascal showed that like that that thought process happening. right like Just the the way he would present himself, you could see that that happening without him even saying anything.
00:37:38
Julian Contreras Jr
ah Okay.
00:37:45
Kendahl
And so thats that was what was really cool because you really got a good understanding of who that character is in the comics without ever knowing who he is in the comics. Yeah.
00:37:58
Julian Contreras Jr
I want to focus in on a little bit of a different part. Everybody's got their different opinions on it. Julia Garner as a silver surfer. I personally, it they made it make sense to me and explained who she was.
00:38:12
Kendahl
Yep. Yep.
00:38:14
Julian Contreras Jr
Fantastic. Julia Garner is a great actor.
00:38:18
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:38:18
Julian Contreras Jr
absolutely love the Ozarks.
00:38:20
Kendahl
yes
00:38:21
Julian Contreras Jr
Is that what it's called?
00:38:21
Kendahl
Yeah. Ozarks.
00:38:22
Julian Contreras Jr
oh my Oh, my goodness.
00:38:22
Kendahl
Uh-huh. Yep. And then she's coming up in weapons.
00:38:24
Julian Contreras Jr
i Oh, yeah. Weapons, that's in two weeks.
00:38:27
Kendahl
Yep.
00:38:28
Julian Contreras Jr
We're going to have a review on that one for sure.
00:38:28
Kendahl
Yep.
00:38:30
Julian Contreras Jr
I don't know if Kendall's going to see it, but I am.
00:38:32
Kendahl
I'm going to try because school's starting a couple weeks.
00:38:35
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. The only thing I'm going to say about it, because I've already said that they've explained who she was, the purpose of why she was Silver Surfer and it wasn't some big bulk guy, made a lot of sense to me.
00:38:48
Julian Contreras Jr
Fantastic. Great. I just wish that they had made her a little bit more visibly Julia.
00:39:00
Julian Contreras Jr
Her face just seemed kind of washed out in the Silver Surfer getup, like all the liquid metal or whatever it is.
00:39:06
Kendahl
Yeah. Yeah.
00:39:08
Julian Contreras Jr
I'm sure you guys know what it's called. That's my only gripe with it.
00:39:14
Kendahl
I can, I can agree with that because the funny thing is, is I knew that she was the silver surfer, but the funny thing is I had forgotten in the film that she was a silver surfer until it showed her backstory. And I was like, Oh, that's right.
00:39:27
Kendahl
So it was,
00:39:28
Julian Contreras Jr
So you're saying you didn't even recognize her as Julia Garner until they showed you flat out in human school form.
00:39:32
Kendahl
The backstory. Yeah, that I had for. Yeah, I had forgotten that part.
00:39:35
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay.
00:39:36
Julian Contreras Jr
See, that's, that's what I'm talking about.
00:39:36
Kendahl
I had forgotten that part.
00:39:38
Julian Contreras Jr
Like,
00:39:38
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:39:39
Kendahl
And so um but the minute and i I saw the backstory, all of a sudden it was like, oh, that's right. I remember that I get hit. That's when it all started coming back. Oh, I remember today because her like she did the mocap stuff and all that to to do. There was a lot of process for her.
00:39:55
Kendahl
And um so i agree. I agree. There's I wish there would have been that. I'm a little i was a little disappointed that there is a female silver surfer and i don't come at me for being sexist. That's not what this is.
00:40:09
Kendahl
I'm a I'm a diehard Marvel fan. I love Marvel like to everything. I have so many Fantastic Four comic books.
00:40:15
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay.
00:40:18
Kendahl
There are so very few female server silver surfers that have been iterated into comics and they've only been more recently. the The diehard Silver Surfer fans out there know that it's always been a male herald for Galactic.
00:40:35
Kendahl
So when Galactus comes to do what he's going to do, he sends Silver Surfer in turn. Now later on, Silver Surfer ends up joining Galactus.
00:40:48
Kendahl
several Marvel teams over time. um At one point, he was part of the Avengers. i But it was always a male. And it's not to say that you can't change the character. It's just, it was to me, it was a little bit different.
00:41:00
Kendahl
But that being said, I agree with you. I like how they presented the backstory about how she... became who she was. So I do like that.
00:41:10
Julian Contreras Jr
Right. Yeah.
00:41:12
Kendahl
And I like how it integrated not just that factor, but the whole element of how Johnny figured out who she was.

Fantastic Four Casting and Future Speculation

00:41:23
Julian Contreras Jr
yeah
00:41:24
Kendahl
So that to me was a really cool part of the story that I liked how they integrated it. And so in that sentiment, I liked it.
00:41:32
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay, good. i I enjoyed that part too. Kendall gave this movie an 8. I am also going to give it an 8. That's right where it was. I enjoyed myself. There were no messages about changing your life and all this stuff. like Focusing it on all the wrong parts of what a movie is supposed to be.
00:41:51
Julian Contreras Jr
you're li You're supposed to go in there, enjoy yourself, shut off, turn on, have a great time. That's exactly what this was.
00:41:58
Kendahl
Yeah. Well, and did you see, okay, my son pointed out that that it showed the date at the beginning of the movie.
00:42:00
Julian Contreras Jr
I liked it
00:42:06
Kendahl
I didn't know when it took place. um i'm I'm double checking myself real quick.
00:42:11
Julian Contreras Jr
it It said Earth no, it wasn't a it wasn't a date.
00:42:12
Kendahl
ah
00:42:17
Kendahl
Okay, so um my son was saying it showed like a date on there, um the movie itself, that it took place in the future oh it wasn't a date i thought he said it was and i was like oh my gosh okay oh yeah you're right earth 828 yeah you're right earth 828 so it's indicating part of the multiverse okay
00:42:32
Julian Contreras Jr
It wasn't a date. No, so the numbers that pop up
00:42:41
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay, but it's also referring, because you can see it at the end of the movie, that's when it becomes a date. It says Earth 828, and then it splits them apart, and 828 is Jack Kirby's birthday.
00:42:54
Kendahl
um okay i didn't see that part no
00:42:56
Julian Contreras Jr
Did you not see that part? Oh, okay. Well, yeah, there's a little... That's the date that he might have been talking about.
00:43:03
Kendahl
Okay. So now that we're talking about that, did you stay through the end credits?
00:43:08
Julian Contreras Jr
ah day I was just going to get to that. Let's get to that mid-credit scene and how amazing that was.
00:43:13
Kendahl
Okay.
00:43:16
Kendahl
Okay.
00:43:16
Julian Contreras Jr
So it shoots. Four years later, baby Franklin's reading War and Peace or whatever, but she wants to have him read like some other kid's book.
00:43:26
Kendahl
ah Some, yeah, like kid book. Uh-huh.
00:43:28
Julian Contreras Jr
So she goes and gets it from the little robot guy. His name's what, Harvey or something? Herbie?
00:43:33
Kendahl
Yeah, Herbie. ah
00:43:35
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, just... And she hears a noise. She turns around. and it's Dr. Doom with the mask off. But you can't see who it is.
00:43:44
Kendahl
You can't, yep.
00:43:46
Julian Contreras Jr
And he's talking to Franklin.
00:43:48
Kendahl
Yep.
00:43:48
Julian Contreras Jr
That was amazing. I loved it. If it's going to stay and be um Robert Downey, great. If they're going to choose somebody else because stuff's going on, that's fine too because they didn't show his face.
00:44:06
Kendahl
Well, and um well and the thing so the thing is, it's supposed to be Avengers Doomsday, right?
00:44:14
Julian Contreras Jr
Right.
00:44:15
Kendahl
So like there's a big part of um that that I'm hoping they bring him in there. I'm hoping that they keep him. I've seen i've seen um ah pictures and Deadpool is actually going to be in it.
00:44:31
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay. That's totally fine. ah My son was like, is there something after this? i was like, yeah, because remember at the end of Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four show up in their car. So maybe this is going to be part of that.
00:44:45
Julian Contreras Jr
And then I was so just like not disheartened or disheveled.
00:44:45
Kendahl
Okay.
00:44:50
Julian Contreras Jr
I was a little let down that they didn't do that at all. So maybe that's coming later during Doomsday. then I was like, well, let's sit through all the way through the credits and see if they get to it.
00:45:03
Julian Contreras Jr
And what did we get at the very, very end of these credits, Kendall? You sat there for an extra 15 minutes. and what did you get not even a full cartoon you got the intro to a cartoon and i was like okay well maybe they're gonna zoom out and somebody's gonna be watching this cartoon no i i stood up and i was like i cannot believe that
00:45:11
Kendahl
A cartoon.
00:45:23
Kendahl
No. Just a cartoon.
00:45:29
Kendahl
i so I knew that that was coming, so I left before that.
00:45:33
Julian Contreras Jr
yeah i was gonna tell you but i was like no i sat through it he's gonna sit through it
00:45:39
Kendahl
I happened to see something about and that being at the very, at the very end. And I was like, yeah I'm not going to stay for it. So, and I already knew about the, I already knew about the Dr. Doom post credit because I, I had um seen something about that.
00:45:53
Kendahl
And so i was like, yeah, I know that's coming too, but going to watch it. so
00:45:57
Julian Contreras Jr
All right.
00:45:58
Kendahl
But I think in general, though, I think this is a this is just like I said, fantastic for first steps. I think this is the first steps that Marvel is making in ah in a good direction. If they can continue to present movies that are like this in...
00:46:16
Kendahl
that that drive our boob tube interest in movies, right? that Just like you said, just sit down, watch, enjoy, be enthralled, walk away and not have to learn some life lesson, political ideal or, you know, some altering mind conception, right?
00:46:33
Kendahl
then that's what the movie is supposed to be about. That's all it's supposed to be.
00:46:36
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:46:37
Kendahl
Now, there are times that movies make you think, and I like those. There are times that movies make you cry, i like those. But movies that have to like, you have to walk through and think like, okay, were they trying to be political here?
00:46:48
Kendahl
Were they trying to be like, were they trying to like post an ideal here? I hate that. I don't like that. I don't wanna go into that. I get why that happens.
00:46:56
Julian Contreras Jr
yeah
00:46:57
Kendahl
I understand why they do that. But for me, it's just about being entertained. And that's what I like about it. It was really good.
00:47:04
Julian Contreras Jr
Especially superhero movies. That's what I...
00:47:07
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:47:07
Julian Contreras Jr
I like this one a lot.
00:47:08
Kendahl
Yep.
00:47:08
Julian Contreras Jr
I will definitely watch this one, probably buy it later because there'll be extended scenes and whatnot.
00:47:13
Kendahl
Oh, hands down.
00:47:13
Julian Contreras Jr
um But why didn't they just call this Fantastic Four Baby Steps? Huh? Like, it would have worked just fine too.
00:47:21
Kendahl
Right. So, okay. So to clarify, so his name is powerhouse. So the the baby that they have is named powerhouse powerhouse can warp, um, reality and time and space.
00:47:32
Kendahl
Like he, he is one of the most absolute powerful, most powerful beings in the Marvel universe.
00:47:40
Kendahl
It's outside of a couple. And, but he doesn't really have a lot of like, we'll call it screen time in the comic books. Um, Because he's just way too, as my son says, OP. p He's just just crazy OP.
00:47:53
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. Okay. Nice.
00:47:57
Kendahl
But you see some of that. And Galactus in this does kind of talk about that. And so i hope that they I hope that they do kind of continue that on, like talking about or bringing that into the next one. Because...
00:48:11
Kendahl
that is That's the reason why he basically is not in the comic universe of Marvel because of how crazy powerful he actually can be. So anyway, that's another another thing for another day.
00:48:24
Julian Contreras Jr
right, that's going to wrap up our reviews.

Upcoming Movies and Future Plans

00:48:27
Julian Contreras Jr
We're going to touch on a few little things at the end. I hope this gave you something to do through the weekend. If you're not watching SummerSlam like I am, go out and watch some of these.
00:48:34
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:48:36
Julian Contreras Jr
Enjoy. i mean, probably not and until dawn, but Kendall will.
00:48:43
Kendahl
I will. I'm going to see it.
00:48:45
Julian Contreras Jr
ah We are going to be back on Saturday because tomorrow night is a movie I've absolutely been excited and waiting for. It is the movie together with Dave Franco and Alison Brie, who are in fact a real life married couple playing a married couple that's going through.
00:49:06
Julian Contreras Jr
I don't know yet. I'm trying to stay away from any spoilers or anything, but I'm super excited to see that.
00:49:08
Kendahl
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:49:11
Kendahl
I will tell you that I will tell you i have watched some behind the scenes of this movie and i'm not I'm not giving anything away, but Dave Franco said that this was one of the most difficult ah physical movies that he's ever been involved in.
00:49:15
Julian Contreras Jr
See, and I'm staying away from those.
00:49:28
Kendahl
so that was that was That's all I'm going to leave because it did show some of the stuff that's that some of the scenes and he he said that this was a very difficult movie to go through, but he said it's one of his
00:49:29
Julian Contreras Jr
ah yeah there Yeah, they're calling it one of the better date movies.
00:49:40
Kendahl
um Like he's very proud to have done it and he hopes it it pays off in the end.
00:49:47
Julian Contreras Jr
Well, I'm going with five other guys, so we'll let you know.
00:49:50
Kendahl
Hey, they said the same thing about companion too.
00:49:52
Julian Contreras Jr
We're having a guy's night out.
00:49:54
Kendahl
So it was good.
00:49:55
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, I liked Companion. i don't know if you saw it.
00:49:57
Kendahl
No, that was great.
00:49:58
Julian Contreras Jr
But I want to leave you, Kendall, with this little ah tidbit. I know you like video games. You are not so much of a horror fan. But somebody getting their own video game coming out soon.
00:50:10
Julian Contreras Jr
Hellraiser Revival.
00:50:13
Kendahl
i sent I sent you that preview.
00:50:15
Julian Contreras Jr
Yes. Did you? I don't know. Somebody did.
00:50:17
Kendahl
Yeah. Yeah.
00:50:18
Julian Contreras Jr
And I saw it. And I watched the Red Band trailer. It looks absolutely insane.
00:50:23
Kendahl
Oh my gosh. Yeah.
00:50:24
Julian Contreras Jr
I cannot wait for October. going to have to play that one in the pitch black and living room. Everybody's got to be asleep because that one looks like it's pretty crazy.
00:50:32
Kendahl
It is going to be one of the most... um Okay. So I did i did some research. on I did send you the preview for it. it's It is supposed to push the boundaries of what...
00:50:43
Kendahl
is allowed for mainstream video games in the aspects of being grotesque.
00:50:46
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, judging from that Red Band trailer, yeah.
00:50:49
Kendahl
Right?
00:50:50
Julian Contreras Jr
And I'm so glad that Doug Bradley is doing the voice. It's not going to be someone else.
00:50:55
Kendahl
No.
00:50:55
Julian Contreras Jr
It's going to be Doug Bradley.
00:50:56
Kendahl
Yeah. Yeah. Isn't that cool?
00:50:59
Julian Contreras Jr
it's It's amazing.
00:51:00
Kendahl
So, um, side note. Okay. So the guy that, that designed, um, Hellraiser, right. Uh, Wyatt, my brains, uh, Clive Barker, do you know, he has an animated movie for kids?
00:51:08
Julian Contreras Jr
Clyde Barker.
00:51:14
Julian Contreras Jr
For Hellraiser?
00:51:15
Kendahl
No, but no, it's, uh, it's called a zoo.
00:51:16
Julian Contreras Jr
oh I
00:51:20
Kendahl
Um, zoo apocalypse or is it zoo apocalypse? Give me a second here. Um, I think it's called, I'm pretty sure night of, yeah, night of the zoo apocalypse.
00:51:25
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay. Okay.
00:51:32
Kendahl
It's, it's a Clive Barker movie about zombie animals.
00:51:34
Julian Contreras Jr
All
00:51:36
Kendahl
It's an animated movie for kids.
00:51:39
Julian Contreras Jr
right.
00:51:40
Kendahl
I saw that and i was like, wait, this the same guy that did hell razor?
00:51:40
Julian Contreras Jr
Sounds good.
00:51:44
Kendahl
Yup.
00:51:45
Julian Contreras Jr
Sure is. right, we will be back in a couple days. We're going to have that. I don't know. Are you going to see that together?
00:51:54
Kendahl
I won't have time.
00:51:54
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay.
00:51:55
Kendahl
I won't have time. i want I'd like to, but I don't have time.
00:51:56
Julian Contreras Jr
Well, I'll have it for you. And we'll talk a little bit about wrestling and all this stuff that's coming up this weekend, but I'm so glad to be back. I'm so glad you're back. I'm glad everything's okay. Besides your bumper.
00:52:09
Julian Contreras Jr
Uh,
00:52:09
Kendahl
Oh, and oh side note, i so I bought myself a season pass for movies. So now I'm going start clicking through them.
00:52:16
Julian Contreras Jr
Okay.
00:52:17
Kendahl
So, yeah.
00:52:19
Julian Contreras Jr
Awesome. You have any ah final words for us on the way out, buddy?
00:52:23
Kendahl
No, just everybody. Thank you. Thank you for hanging around. Thank you for sticking around. Thank you for still, you know, putting us in your ears on your car stereo on the speakers at home, wherever you listen.
00:52:35
Kendahl
I know there's not a lot of you out there. i appreciate every minute that we have with you and you're in your home, your car, doing your chores, whatever you're doing. Just I appreciate it.
00:52:46
Julian Contreras Jr
right. Until next time. and don't tell you how to fly. You don't tell me how to kill sexy aliens.
00:52:53
Kendahl
Just remember, turn on something good.
