Recording Schedule Conflicts

00:00:36
Kendahl
Hello, hello, welcome to Shut Off and Turn On. This is your host, Kendall, and that is your host over there,
00:00:46
julian57
Julian, I don't have a pen to click. Sorry.
00:00:49
Kendahl
Oh, did you hear the pen click? I'm so sorry.
00:00:51
julian57
Oh, yeah.
00:00:52
julian57
Oh, yeah, we did.
00:00:54
Kendahl
We're getting right off the bat with the pen clicks. Anyway, welcome to our wonderful show. I apologize for being a little delayed. weve We had a little bit of a break.
00:01:05
Kendahl
I think... Julian's schedule and my schedule just didn't quite meet up. And then i have a I have to tell him the story because, see, the funny thing is, is so I went out this weekend and we were talking about Julian going to the movies.
00:01:20
Kendahl
And i was like, oh, I'll talk to you on on Sunday when I get back. Let's record then. Well, you know, it'll be great. And then I'm texting him, hey, how'd the movie go? And he's like, oh, it wasn't as bad. And then we started going back and forth and it skipped my mind to be like, hey, when are we recording? recording And all of a sudden today my wife goes, hey, weren't you guys supposed to record at some point? And I was like, oh, crap.
00:01:46
Kendahl
So I literally text you and was like, I can't believe I'm just like full bore, brained out, not even paying attention. so
00:01:54
julian57
You're okay. We're here now. We can just jump into it like nothing ever happened.
00:01:56
Kendahl
Yeah. Like we, you know, just, just shooting the wind like we always do.

Friday Night Smackdown Adventure

00:02:02
Kendahl
But I guess on that note, so, you know, honestly, you have a pretty decent sized story to talk about if you want to start with the the one from for you and your brother.
00:02:03
julian57
Yeah, exactly.
00:02:15
julian57
Yes. So, I mean, obviously, it's we're going to dip into wrestling here if you've seen any of my posts. But we did go to another live show. I went to Friday Night Smackdown with my son, who ended up getting a little bit sick. So he had to go home after the show. We made it all the way through.
00:02:34
julian57
And then, so the next night, I was like, who am I going to take? Luckily, Fernando, as you all know, he jumped in and decided to take the free ticket.
00:02:44
julian57
I think that's what swayed him was the free part. but
00:02:48
Kendahl
Right.
00:02:49
julian57
So we rode up there. We had a good time and we were sitting in the merch line, which was, dare I say, a mile long. It was probably one of the longest merch lines I've ever stood in.
00:03:01
julian57
And I'm like, well, do you want to go get merch or do you want to try to upgrade our seat and see what we can find? He's like, it's up to you. Like, whatever you want to do, I'll do it with you.
00:03:12
julian57
I'm like, okay, cool. Let's go try to upgrade. You know, you hear some really good stories about upgrading the day of the show.
00:03:19
Kendahl
Right.
00:03:20
julian57
And it honestly really, really paid off. I've never done it before, but we go up to the box office and like, okay, well, we see these tickets here on the floor for this much money. We're interested in those.
00:03:32
julian57
So she looks on the computer and she's like, well, I don't have those. Those are a third party seller, but I do have these ones here in the fourth row for this much money. And I look at my brother. I'm like, I'm sorry.
00:03:45
julian57
What did you just say? She's like, yeah, they're this amount of money. I'm not going to say how much they were, but they were $80 less than the ones we were going to buy anyway.
00:03:57
julian57
And so we we say, yes, of course, we'll do that.
00:03:57
Kendahl
wow okay
00:04:02
julian57
So we go around, we get all the way down to the floor. And let me tell you, people, talking like Kendall here, we get down to the floor. You get so much more nice help at events when you're on the floor.
00:04:16
julian57
Cause I feel like when you're in the nosebleeds, you're like, yeah your seats over there. Just go up five levels and go over four on the floor. They're like, Oh yeah, let me see your phone. Oh yeah. You're in this seat. Let me, yeah, it's this chair.
00:04:27
julian57
You're good. Like I felt like a little child, but then we sat there.
00:04:29
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:04:31
julian57
So we were ended up fourth row next to the aisle and the ring. And we were looking at the chairs and we were also in the row where you get a commemorative chair.
00:04:39
Kendahl
Nice.
00:04:44
julian57
So as Kendall can see, i have the chair.
00:04:45
Kendahl
Awesome.
00:04:48
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:04:49
julian57
And my wife's like, well, where's that chair going to go? I'm like, right there in this room, which is our bedroom. Like, where else is it going to go?
00:04:56
Kendahl
Nice.
00:04:57
julian57
It's going to live here. So it was really fun. If you guys want to see me and my brother, you I've been told we are on Saturday Night Main Event. We are on that show quite a bit because of where we were sitting.
00:05:09
Kendahl
Wow. Okay.
00:05:11
julian57
So that was awesome. Had a great time. Thank you, Fernando, for going. If he hadn't been with me and paid his half of the upgrade, I don't think we would have upgraded ever.
00:05:22
julian57
But I'm so glad we did. And I will definitely be trying from now on.
00:05:27
Kendahl
That's awesome. That's awesome.
00:05:28
julian57
So that's not that's my big story.
00:05:29
Kendahl
Yeah,
00:05:30
julian57
Other than that, I've been to a ton of movies, but.
00:05:36
Kendahl
I have nothing of that greatness in my storyline.

Kendall's Back Injury Misadventure

00:05:41
Kendahl
i I literally only have... i Mine is the teacher side of things. it's It's the end of the first quarter, so I was so busy just doing report cards and progress reports. Yeah.
00:05:54
julian57
Well, see, now, so that's not true, Kendall, because you did pop your back out sneezing again.
00:06:01
Kendahl
Oh my gosh. Okay. Yes.
00:06:03
julian57
You said you jumped out of your truck or something.
00:06:03
Kendahl
So i totally, i totally had the, uh, the F word moment. Like it's the 40. yeah i I don't even know what I did. All I did is step out of my truck.
00:06:17
Kendahl
And next thing I know, I could not walk. I could not go anywhere. I could not do anything. I was laid flat out for like four days straight. It was stupid.
00:06:27
julian57
Yeah, because the original recording date was during that time when you saw that movie.
00:06:31
Kendahl
Yes.
00:06:33
julian57
And you ended up not seeing it that time.
00:06:33
Kendahl
Yes. Yeah, well, so yeah, so we, you know, we were supposed to see this one movie. And i I was really frustrated because I wanted to go see it.
00:06:44
Kendahl
But I couldn't sit in a seat for more than 10 minutes before I was just in in so much pain.
00:06:49
julian57
Yeah, and we will get to that movie that we were talking about, I promise.
00:06:50
Kendahl
And Yeah. Yeah. and And and so, yeah, so I I ended up just staying home. i i ended up watching a different movie that we'll talk about.
00:07:01
Kendahl
And I just yeah. So funny thing was, is I remembered emailing my boss and I was like, hey, I'm I'm stuck. Like, I can't even move. And she goes, well, i can't really let you work from home. So you're going to have to just take some time off. And i was like yeah, that's fine.
00:07:18
Kendahl
I'll do that.
00:07:19
julian57
yeah Okay. Twist my arm about it.
00:07:21
Kendahl
so I know, right? I had to take a lot of personal time. Even though I mean i could have been working on like progress reports and report cards while I was down and out, I couldn't. So I had to wait until literally the week they were due to like rush through them. But it's all right.
00:07:38
Kendahl
It's all good.
00:07:39
julian57
Nice.

Film Review: 'Regretting You'

00:07:40
julian57
All right. So do you just want to jump into some of the movies that we've seen? Let's keep this ball rolling. Keep them entertained.
00:07:44
Kendahl
Yeah. So let's let's talk about the movie that we both saw to start.
00:07:51
julian57
Okay, yeah.
00:07:52
Kendahl
Now, this is a romcom. You have it it Allison Wilson, I think her name is, is the the main character.
00:08:02
julian57
Oh, no, no, no, no. no no
00:08:04
Kendahl
Hold on, hold on. Is it Williams?
00:08:06
julian57
It's. Yeah.
00:08:09
Kendahl
Allison, give me two seconds here because I was just looking at it and I thought I put down the right name, but I did not. Anyway, so the, yeah, al Allison Williams, sorry.
00:08:18
julian57
There you ago
00:08:19
Kendahl
So main, the main theme of this movie is you've got Allison Williams is married to this guy who, you know, the, the,
00:08:32
Kendahl
main theme of this is is that you find out he gets into a car accident. I'm not spoiling anything. There's a very clear line in the in the trailers that obviously him and then Allison Williams' sister are kind of getting a little too friendly in life.
00:08:50
Kendahl
And then they both get into a car accident at the same time. And then the movie just starts. And so the whole movie is about...
00:08:59
julian57
yeah, I would say he just go, let's just go ahead and spoil this thing, buddy, because it's going to be out of theaters the end of this week.
00:09:00
Kendahl
mean, I guess there's a little bit of time...
00:09:06
julian57
Cause there's so many big ones coming in.
00:09:08
Kendahl
yeah
00:09:09
julian57
This one is getting pushed out.
00:09:09
Kendahl
Okay. So,
00:09:10
julian57
And honestly, the ratings for this, mine differ. I want to hear your true opinion, but this, the movie is called regretting you by the way, people, and it's getting,
00:09:22
Kendahl
Oh, did I, did I not say that?
00:09:24
julian57
No, you didn't.
00:09:24
Kendahl
Oh, I'm so sorry.
00:09:25
julian57
You said Alison Wilson, whoever that is.
00:09:28
Kendahl
I don't know. Williams.
00:09:31
julian57
So, Regretting You is the movie.
00:09:31
Kendahl
So yes.
00:09:33
julian57
It's a movie based on the book by...
00:09:37
julian57
you know?
00:09:38
Kendahl
Oh my gosh, no, I don't.
00:09:40
julian57
I think it's Colleen Hoover.
00:09:40
Kendahl
I don't have that note on mine. Oh, yes.
00:09:43
julian57
I think that's her name.
00:09:43
Kendahl
Okay.
00:09:43
julian57
Okay.
00:09:44
Kendahl
Yes, it is. Colleen Hoover. Yep.
00:09:46
julian57
So, this is the book that I powered myself through because I really wanted to see this movie back when it released on October 24th. And it is still in theaters now, so it's had a good four three, four weeks in there.
00:09:54
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:09:58
julian57
But after this weekend, it's getting shoved out for sure.
00:09:59
Kendahl
Yeah. So, so Yeah, so morgan so Morgan is the mother. What's his name? Chris, I think his name is, is the father.
00:10:10
Kendahl
And Chris and Morgan's sister, whose name is Jenny, are just we know they're having an affair. They get into a car accident and then everybody kind of slowly figures this out except for, i i would say is the main character, and that is McKenna Grace's character, Clara Grant.
00:10:18
julian57
Yep.
00:10:31
Kendahl
and the, this is kind of, i don't know. I would call this like a, almost a coming of age romantic comedy. Is that a, mean, that's a pretty good, yeah.
00:10:40
julian57
It was funny. was funny enough to be a comedy.
00:10:43
Kendahl
Yeah, I mean, there's some there's some comedic points. So I went and saw this with my wife. The funny thing was, and and we afterwards we were talking about and i was like, hey, so what do you think? Like, what was your opinion of it?
00:10:54
Kendahl
And she she thought the there's a few teenage, we'll call it teenage love scenes. We'll leave it at that.
00:11:04
julian57
Okay.
00:11:05
Kendahl
And she's she just felt like they weren't needed. to get the the point across. And i i think the hard part is is it's because of the age of the characters.
00:11:18
Kendahl
It makes it a little bit uncomfortable.
00:11:21
julian57
Right. Okay. I see that.
00:11:22
Kendahl
Yeah. I agree and I disagree because i I liked the dynamic that that moment created that then put the the the guy that's her love interest. So this that's Mason. Is it Thames?
00:11:37
Kendahl
thomas i don't know how to say his name is.
00:11:39
julian57
don't You keep going.
00:11:40
Kendahl
I don't know. Anyway, so he plays her boyfriend, Miller, right?
00:11:46
julian57
Miller.
00:11:48
Kendahl
And you guys might know him from Black Phone. He played the the main character in Black Phone, the kid. And he's also in Black Phone too.
00:11:56
julian57
Okay. Good poll. Good poll.
00:11:58
Kendahl
Anyway, so i you know I liked i like the dynamic that that created, but the whole movie is really based around her trying to figure out you know where she fits in her mom's life now that her dad is gone, where she fits in her own life because her favorite person in the world, who is Jenny, is gone.
00:12:16
Kendahl
And that was kind of her connection in in in love, in teenage things, in girl things. It was always her Aunt Jenny. And now Aunt Jenny's not there. She has to deal with her mom. She feels like her mom is this like...
00:12:30
Kendahl
sheltered person who can't relate to or can't be a part of.
00:12:34
julian57
Yeah.
00:12:35
Kendahl
And so you then throw in the fact that you've got, as it David Franco, right?
00:12:42
julian57
da Yeah. I think it goes by Dave, but yeah.
00:12:43
Kendahl
Dave Franco. Yeah. So you've got him now, who's the husband of the sister Jenny, or not husband, but fiancee?
00:12:55
julian57
yet.
00:12:55
Kendahl
Husband. I don't know. Father of what is this child.
00:13:00
julian57
Right.
00:13:01
Kendahl
Right? So, what you do know, though, is that... Allison Williams' character, Morgan, and this guy were sort of a weird off moment back when they were teenagers or like early 20s and never rekindled it.
00:13:17
julian57
Mm-hmm.
00:13:19
Kendahl
Well, now they have to kind of reexamine the whole situation of what's going on. And now that's going into the cycle of like... who's in what part of everyone's different life, you know, and there's this baby and it's like, i don't know.
00:13:35
Kendahl
So I think there's a lot of things going on in this movie and it just, everything seems complicated, I guess. That's the best. It's like, that's another title that I guess not regretting you, but it's complicated.
00:13:47
julian57
It's up. Yeah, I think that one's taken. Yeah.
00:13:52
Kendahl
know, I know, but personally I like this movie. I went into it knowing exactly what it was going to be. I, my wife and i both went into it having this understanding that it wasn't going to be this like awe inspiring notebook like romance movie, right?
00:14:01
julian57
Yeah.
00:14:12
Kendahl
Like that was a great movie back in the day, the notebook. And, but it was like almost saga like, right? Cause it went over several, several years. This all happens over the span of what? Like a few weeks.
00:14:26
julian57
Yeah, I think three or four weeks is it.
00:14:28
Kendahl
Yeah. And, and it seems very fast paced for everything that's going on. And, it, but I, so, you know, going into it, knowing it's going to be like that.
00:14:40
Kendahl
I liked it. It was a fun movie. I'm not going to go run to the theaters and see it again. I'm probably not even going to like run to a streaming service and rent it. I will wait till it's free to stream on whatever platform it decides to poke its head on.
00:14:54
Kendahl
I'll wait till that point to watch it again. and it'll probably be another year before I put my my attention to it. But with that said, I don't know. I i mean, honestly, I would give it like a seven, maybe seven and a half.
00:15:08
julian57
okay I thought you were going to do it. I thought you were going to do it.
00:15:12
Kendahl
Oh, no, no, no, no. I thought about it, but I'm not doing that.
00:15:18
julian57
Okay, good.
00:15:18
Kendahl
And y'all know what we're talking about.
00:15:20
julian57
Yeah. All right. I'm going to jump in with my two cents on this before we jump to another movie. I really liked this movie for the movie part of it. Yes, the reviews are saying it is completely predictable.
00:15:30
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:15:33
julian57
You know what's going to happen. But once you look at the cast, there's only like seven people that are the main stars in this movie. That is it. There's a few background characters.
00:15:42
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:15:43
julian57
So there's Morgan and Chris who have had their backstory. We get that.
00:15:49
Kendahl
Yep.
00:15:49
julian57
they're going to force those two together. But at the same time, they liked each other back when they were kids. And if you notice the timeline in this movie, what happens at the beginning where they're getting beer and stuff, I mean, the book goes into more of that.
00:16:06
julian57
But if you look in the background, the fence says class of 2001. All right. So I'm class of 2001.
00:16:12
Kendahl
Yeah. yeah
00:16:15
julian57
Then it jumps to 17 years later. That's it. There's no more time jumps. So this movie is technically way in the past. Kendall, did you notice that? It's not now.
00:16:28
julian57
All right. So that was one thing that kind of caught me off guard.
00:16:28
Kendahl
Yeah. Yeah.
00:16:30
julian57
I'm like, well, this is not even now. This is forever ago. But with the, I will say McKenna Grace does it a great job of what her character is supposed to be.
00:16:37
Kendahl
Right.
00:16:43
julian57
And I'll tell you what, the book made me so frustrated because all they had to do was sit down and talk to her about what had happened between the aunt and the dad.
00:16:53
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:16:55
julian57
They didn't want to shatter her feelings of both of them because they were both her heroes. And mom was just always mom, the predictable mom. That's what she says like on her birthday, which kind of sets her off a little bit.
00:17:08
Kendahl
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:17:11
julian57
So if this it skips so many good parts of the book, but then it also skips so many of the stuff that just dragged. Cause I went for like six chapters of them. Like, well, we can't talk to her. We can't tell her.
00:17:24
julian57
I'm like, you, you realize if you did talk to her, you would fix it. Right? Like you don't have to go through this.
00:17:29
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:17:31
julian57
You could just fix it and talk to her, sit down and be like, this is what happened. It had nothing to do with me or Chris. Like this is the decision that your aunt and your dad made that had, we didn't know about it.
00:17:44
julian57
Like even the letters they found in the toolbox in the movie,
00:17:48
julian57
i had it When I was reading the book, I had to keep figuring out where those letters were because they burned them, right?
00:17:55
Kendahl
Right.
00:17:56
julian57
But what they do with them is they just keep them in a drawer. They're like, let's just keep them in the drawer and we're not going to show her. I'm like, okay, these letters are going to come back, right? She's going to read them? No, she doesn't read them. I'm like, okay, it's just a dead plot.
00:18:10
julian57
The letters are there.
00:18:12
Kendahl
yeah but they present But in the movie, they do a really good job.
00:18:13
julian57
But for what it is, this...
00:18:17
julian57
Yeah. Yeah. They burn them and they, they don't want to read them, but they're assuming that can, they go back years. So the father, and but this, I didn't hate the movie.
00:18:31
julian57
Okay. I liked it for what it was. I will say, I am going to go right there on the borderline of seven with you because I did enjoy the acting. The actors they chose for this movie were great.
00:18:45
julian57
Did the dialogue kind of get muddled and elementary? Yes. But that's what they had to work with.
00:18:53
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:18:55
julian57
So if you want to sit down and watch a nice little movie, you can snuggle up to this one.
00:18:56
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:18:59
julian57
it is was very kind-hearted. that Like you said, there are that that little bit of a love scene where they do say that the character is not 18, which is weird, but...
00:19:12
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:19:13
julian57
I thought for sure when i you said you saw it first, I asked you, I'm like, did they age her up for that scene? And you said no. So that was a little bit weird, but I mean, it is what it is.
00:19:21
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:19:24
julian57
Okay. We're adults.
00:19:25
Kendahl
i would I would still say that this is a pretty clean movie, though. Like overall, because I know we have some people out there that are listening to us that don't like watching some of the stuff that's a little bit more, we'll say graphic. We'll just leave it at that.
00:19:37
Kendahl
And I think, yeah, risque.
00:19:37
julian57
Risque.
00:19:40
Kendahl
And I think this i think this borderlines that that love that level, but at the same time, I think it hits it well enough. Remember, my wife is a very much, she does not like it to be in that risque category. So for her to say, oh it was a little uncomfortable, but it was still good, it says a lot to the fact that it's still pretty clean movie.
00:19:56
julian57
right. So we're going to drop regretting you. That's it is what it is. I do recommend seeing it at least one time.
00:20:02
Kendahl
di
00:20:03
julian57
You can't wait for it to be home. Snuggle up on the couch with your loved one. Put a blanket on, get some snacks. You'll enjoy it for that under two hours.
00:20:09
Kendahl
I have a feeling it's going to hit streaming pretty quick. it It'll definitely hit streaming before the end of the month.
00:20:12
julian57
Yeah.
00:20:15
julian57
Okay. So we're done with that one.

Critique of 'House of Dynamite'

00:20:18
julian57
We got plenty of else on the list. what What do you want to hit now?
00:20:22
Kendahl
All right. So let's talk about the one that i I saw when I couldn't go see the one that we'll talk about after this.
00:20:31
julian57
Okay, go ahead.
00:20:32
Kendahl
So, OK, so it's called House of Dynamite. If you have not seen anything about this, this was a Netflix film. They sent it to theaters initially for, i my assumption is, a movie has to go to theaters to be considered for any type of awards.
00:20:50
Kendahl
And so I believe they threw it in theaters just for that presentation of opportunity to to see what award it could win. I will tell you right now, it won't win any awards, just my opinion.
00:21:04
Kendahl
But, I mean, listen...
00:21:05
julian57
right
00:21:06
Kendahl
Okay, but listen to this cast, okay? Idris Elba, right? We know that one.
00:21:12
julian57
Uh-huh.
00:21:12
Kendahl
Anthony Ramos, we know that one.
00:21:12
julian57
Okay. Yep.
00:21:14
julian57
okay yep
00:21:16
Kendahl
Jared Harris, I guarantee you you know this face. Gabriel el Basso, again, another one. I don't think the name's like super familiar, but the dude was in Super 8. He was in... my gosh, something else. Oh, it's another Netflix show called The Night Agent.
00:21:37
Kendahl
the we've also like I know you've seen him and in other movies. And then you've got Rebecca Ferguson, who's, again, also been in a ton of of movies. like this Once you see the characters start rolling through, you're like, wait, I know that guy. I know that guy.
00:21:53
Kendahl
Oh, wait, I know that guy. There's absolutely a bunch of familiar faces throughout this film. The whole premise of this is One day, a foreign adversary in the Pacific shoots off an ICBM.
00:22:07
Kendahl
So international ballistics missile, right? They are tracking it and they think they're just going to get rid of it.
00:22:17
Kendahl
And it turns out it's this nuke and you get to see this in, do you remember there was film not too long ago, that came out and you got to see every bit of the explosion from the bomb that went off from like everybody's different point of view.
00:22:37
Kendahl
And I'm trying to remember the film off my head.
00:22:37
julian57
Okay.
00:22:38
Kendahl
I can't remember it. But regardless,
00:22:44
Kendahl
it's one of those types of films where it shows perspective of this group to this group to this group to this group. right
00:22:51
julian57
okay
00:22:53
Kendahl
It starts off with watching it from the perspective of this this White House control board basically determining, is it going to hit the United States? And if it is, what kind of damage is it going to do?
00:23:07
Kendahl
Then it goes into each perspective, like the base that shoots off a missile to try to stop it. It goes off from... So Idris Elba actually ends up playing the president in this film.
00:23:19
Kendahl
And it has a whole half-hour segment of just from his perspective of how he sees it, right?
00:23:27
julian57
OK.
00:23:27
Kendahl
And I'll tell you, it's good. It's really good. It has one of the worst endings I have ever seen in a film in a long time.
00:23:40
julian57
I was wondering where you're going with this I was like, OK.
00:23:43
Kendahl
I'm still going Okay, I'm going to hands down give this movie like an eight, eight and a half. It's enthralling. The whole time you're on like the edge of your seat watching what's going to happen next.
00:23:55
Kendahl
Because you see this you see this missile and you see where it's going to land and you're like, okay, how are they going to deal with it when it hits? And that never happens.
00:24:07
julian57
So you saw it in theaters. It's on Netflix now, right?
00:24:12
Kendahl
Yes, it is on Netflix.
00:24:14
julian57
Okay, so we can just go to Netflix you want to see this.
00:24:15
Kendahl
So it you can go to Netflix and watch it. But this started off in the theaters. And so, i and i like I said, I think the reason they did that was to try to get it into the awards cycle.
00:24:22
julian57
Right, right.
00:24:29
Kendahl
It's not going to win anything. I'm going to tell you right now, go watch this movie. It's fun. It's a good movie. it's It drives you nuts trying to figure out what's going to happen next.
00:24:39
Kendahl
For the movie to get to a point where, I don't want to spoil anything, but just where it ends off at, it really is super frustrating.
00:24:51
julian57
OK.
00:24:51
Kendahl
I mean, if you Google House of Dynamite ending, all you're going to see is a bunch of Reddit boards that are just up in arms frustrated.
00:25:00
Kendahl
But all that being said, I'm still going to give it an eight. i mean, it's still a pretty good movie and it's got a really, really good cast, like really good cast.
00:25:06
julian57
Wow. OK.
00:25:12
julian57
Yeah. I really do like Anthony Ramos, so.
00:25:13
Kendahl
So.
00:25:17
Kendahl
Yeah, I mean, and he doesn't play like a major part, but I mean, he does have a pretty important factor to the whole movie. So and then Idris Elba obviously playing the president.
00:25:25
julian57
All
00:25:28
Kendahl
You hear Idris Elba's voice multiple times for. For the better part of the first hour of this film, and you don't know exactly who it is because of the way they present it.
00:25:40
Kendahl
It's like through a cell phone and they do that almost on purpose. So but yeah, I recommend it.
00:25:45
julian57
right. All right.
00:25:48
Kendahl
Definitely. I would take your time to go see it.
00:25:50
julian57
All right.
00:25:51
Kendahl
Or not go see it.
00:25:51
julian57
Perfect. I have nothing to add to that movie.
00:25:52
Kendahl
Turn it on your TV.
00:25:53
julian57
So.
00:25:54
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:25:57
julian57
All right, let's...
00:25:57
Kendahl
All right.
00:25:57
Kendahl
So let's

'Back to the Future' Anniversary Experience

00:25:59
Kendahl
talk about the movie you got to see, but I didn't.
00:26:00
julian57
Let's... Yeah, the one you were supposed to see because this was the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future.
00:26:11
julian57
It was in theaters for the Halloween weekend and it's still in theaters, but the showings are dwindling.
00:26:12
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:26:20
julian57
I personally had to see this movie in the theater because I did not have that luxury back in the day.
00:26:21
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:26:26
julian57
So my wife actually wanted to go. So she went with me. We saw an XD, which was super fun.
00:26:33
Kendahl
Awesome.
00:26:34
julian57
And I was super excited. We were walking in. it i was like, I can't wait for just like the beginning with the clocks and all the stuff. And then power of love, of course. And sure enough, all that stuff sounded great.
00:26:45
Kendahl
Haha, yep.
00:26:47
julian57
They did not upgrade anything. It was the original, what looked like film. So it wasn't like enhanced in any way, but the sound was amazing.
00:26:54
Kendahl
Okay. Uh-huh.
00:26:58
julian57
And of course you and I, we both love back to the future. A lot of our listeners out there that are our age, this is one of the staples for growing up in the eighties was back to the future.
00:27:06
Kendahl
Right.
00:27:11
Kendahl
and was great.
00:27:11
julian57
So to see this in theaters, knowing everything that happens in this movie, because I've seen it 3,500 times, it was still amazing.
00:27:12
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:27:21
julian57
It was a lot of fun. I was able to pay attention to little things in the background that you don't really pay attention to on your TV, like all the little Easter eggs behind everything. It was just a lot of fun.
00:27:33
julian57
And i so I'm super sad you missed it because of your back and jumping out of the trucks. But was good time, Kendall.
00:27:39
Kendahl
Jumping out of trucks.
00:27:41
julian57
Yeah. So I really hope that they do a 40th anniversary of Back to the Future 2. Because while I love this one, Back to the Future 2 is my absolute favorite.
00:27:52
Kendahl
I would say, yeah, two is my favorite. I actually like three better than one.
00:27:59
julian57
pretty good. I did watch that at home because it is on Netflix right now and I own them. And I have DVDs and Blu-rays of them. I don't know how many times I've bought this movie. But it's a lot.
00:28:10
julian57
But if you... If you went out there and you caught Back to the Future in the theaters, congratulations. It was a huge deal for me. And you just got to embrace the little things in life, like seeing a movie.
00:28:24
Kendahl
Well, I think it's cool when they bring these movies back to the theaters, especially for are our generation. I think we live in a unique generation, too, because where our parents had the theaters just like we did,
00:28:39
Kendahl
the the then ability to go up after it came from theaters and went straight to the house with VHS and DVD and then eventually Blu-ray as we got to and closer to adults.
00:28:47
julian57
Yeah.
00:28:51
Kendahl
There was this avenue of it became a part of something in the in the perspective of like core memory or a part, you know, a bigger portion of who we were.
00:29:01
Kendahl
And this is kind of that movie because this is, I mean, it was early on, but I remember as a child, like this is one of the very first movies I watched, like rented at home with my family. And like, this is one of those movies I remember.
00:29:16
Kendahl
And so I think we're in a unique generation where that was, that's more of an option than it was for previous generations. Yeah.
00:29:24
julian57
i would I would say when the credits started a roll, I leaned forward on the chair and I leaned into my wife and i was like, you think there's anything after the credits?
00:29:34
julian57
She's like, why would I know that? And i was like, that let's go. Let's get out of here. But it was a good time. All
00:29:44
Kendahl
Awesome.
00:29:46
julian57
right. And i think you're out of movies, right? You didn't watch anything else.

Halloween Movie Marathon

00:29:52
Kendahl
No, so I didn't watch anything else. I i did finish, i don't know if anybody remembers me talking about it, the show Severance, with my time off.
00:30:01
Kendahl
I did have the chance to watch Severance, and I'll be honest with you, that was kind of a... interesting ending. It's a very different type of show if you have Apple TV.
00:30:13
Kendahl
I was very frustrated to find out that they're not doing another season until 2027.
00:30:14
julian57
Yeah, it's different.
00:30:19
Kendahl
What? Like, what?
00:30:23
Kendahl
what like
00:30:25
julian57
like Stranger Things level.
00:30:25
Kendahl
what
00:30:29
Kendahl
Yeah, yeah.
00:30:29
julian57
But.
00:30:31
Kendahl
But yeah, so i mean, i i did I did watch a lot of Halloween movies because I got kind of stuck in the house and I was literally on my back for Halloween. So I didn't get to watch or didn't get to go do trick or treating or anything.
00:30:44
Kendahl
So I actually watched, I'll go down the list real quick. I ended up watching Scream. I watched Totally Killer.
00:30:50
julian57
okay
00:30:50
Kendahl
I hadn't seen that but since last year. That was pretty good. And then I watched... Oh my gosh, why did blank it?
00:31:04
julian57
Terrifier?
00:31:05
Kendahl
Oh, no, I did not watch Terrifier.
00:31:05
julian57
Did you watch Terrifier?
00:31:09
julian57
Dang it.
00:31:10
Kendahl
Oh my gosh, now I can't even think of it. Monster Squad.
00:31:15
julian57
Okay. Yeah. You brought that one up and I did watch it. It was pretty funny.
00:31:19
Kendahl
Yeah, it's definitely worth the watch.
00:31:19
julian57
All right.

'Welcome to Derry' Series Update

00:31:23
julian57
Uh, I'm going to kind of like free fire some stuff. Uh, welcome to dairy on HBO. It is now three episodes in and it is really good. I want to say it's still building up. Pennywise hasn't jumped out on anybody in Pennywise form.
00:31:40
julian57
But it's building. I don't know if it's going to be 8 or 10 episodes. Because I don't want to look ahead on IMDB. I don't want anything ruined.
00:31:49
Kendahl
Okay.
00:31:49
julian57
But I'm enjoying it. Every Sunday. I'm watching it in the dark with a candle. Loud. Just because I can't wait. I love Pennywise. I love Art the Clown. I don't know what that says about me. But it says enough.
00:32:03
julian57
So yeah. The first three episodes go out there. If you like Pennywise in any way.
00:32:10
Kendahl
Did it shut down on your side or my side? My side, because everything just went down. Pro didn't shut down correctly. My mic went off. Oh, man. I gonna hope the recording is still there and we can just jump back in.
00:32:23
Kendahl
At least I wasn't in the middle a sentence either.
