Well, hello there. Did you miss us? It's been pretty quick. We missed you. How you doing over there, Kendall?
00:00:45
Kendahl
ah I just had the song from Welcome bar welcome Back Carter come through my head. Welcome back. No.
00:00:50
Julian Contreras Jr
Oh, okay.
00:00:51
Kendahl
No.
00:00:52
Julian Contreras Jr
Sounds good. We are old. Let's get past that. Hey, let's
Life's Unpredictability
00:00:57
Julian Contreras Jr
jump right into it. I know we talked about this a little before. You did not get to see Until Dawn.
00:01:01
Kendahl
no
00:01:02
Julian Contreras Jr
Some stuff came up.
00:01:03
Kendahl
so
00:01:03
Julian Contreras Jr
That's okay. It's fine. We'll just make this episode a little bit quicker.
00:01:06
Kendahl
life gets Life gets busy. Like sometimes I think, okay, I have the opportunity to get things done. And then like the other night, i it was the craziest thing. I had all the time in the world. I could have stayed up till, you know, whenever.
00:01:19
Kendahl
And all of a sudden I looked down at the clock and it was like 9.30. I was like, oh, okay. You know, I can, I'll start a movie. And so ah i i so I started The Amateur. I got like 30 minutes into it and I literally had that moment where i'm holding my phone because I couldn't watch it on the television and hit myself in the face. I went, oh my gosh, it's not even 10 o'clock. What?
00:01:40
Kendahl
So, you know, just.
00:01:41
Julian Contreras Jr
Just re reiterating the oldness of us.
00:01:44
Kendahl
No, I just I think it I think what it is, is i just right now I'm in that mode of getting a bunch of stuff done. Oh, which, by the way, hey, welcome to shut off, turn on.
Movie Review Introduction
00:01:53
Kendahl
we We didn't mention that part.
00:01:53
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, yeah. Well, yeah, because you jumped right into...
00:01:57
Kendahl
I did. Anyway, oh so yeah, didn't get a chance to watch it until dawn. I just, I meant to watch it the other night and ah I just, I don't know, i I got distracted and by the time I looked at the clock it was 10.30 and I'm like, nope, I can't start that now.
00:02:15
Kendahl
I know I won't make it.
00:02:18
Julian Contreras Jr
Totally fine. it's We're here. We're here for a movie that I saw with a bunch of my friends. It was really crazy. I can't wait to get into this review.
00:02:29
Julian Contreras Jr
i don't think there's anything else we should do. We should just get into it, right?
00:02:33
Kendahl
Yeah, well, you know, so the funny thing is, is this is a movie I told you before in the last episode that I had. um So David Franco, who's the like the big star, I guess, and since this this film um and even Dave Franco is not like up there.
00:02:48
Kendahl
um He he said it was one of the most difficult, like physical movies that he ever had to do because there's a lot of things that they had to do to make this film.
00:02:57
Julian Contreras Jr
Yes.
00:02:58
Kendahl
work. And ah that line from a little bit of an interview that I watched got me intrigued. And so I didn't have a chance to go see this movie, but you did.
00:03:09
Julian Contreras Jr
Oh, yeah.
00:03:09
Kendahl
And so I have a lot of questions for you. And we'll try to keep them as PG as possible because I know that there's...
00:03:16
Julian Contreras Jr
There's some R-rated material in this movie, yes.
00:03:18
Kendahl
this yeah this This movie has some some body elements.
00:03:23
Julian Contreras Jr
it's It's a body horror movie and a psychological horror.
00:03:24
Kendahl
yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:03:25
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:03:27
Kendahl
I was going to say body gore, but it's not necessarily gore because I don't feel like it falls into that level on the majority of it.
00:03:34
Julian Contreras Jr
Right, the majority.
00:03:35
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:03:35
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, so of course we are talking about Neon Presents Together. Dave Franco, Alison Brie, writer and director is Michael Shanks. We'll get all the credits out of the way right at the beginning so I can just call them Tim and Millie from here on out.
00:03:51
Kendahl
I mean, Alison Brie is pretty good too. Like most people remember her from Community, right?
00:03:56
Julian Contreras Jr
Yes, Community. She did a show on Netflix called Glow, which is about the glamorous ladies of wrestling.
00:03:57
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:04:00
Kendahl
Yeah, that was really good too. Yeah, that was really good.
00:04:03
Julian Contreras Jr
She's done a lot of stuff. She's, I think if you saw her in a lineup, you'd be like, yeah, that's Alison Brie. Got it.
00:04:10
Kendahl
Yeah. I, you know, I think she's one of those actresses that you, like, you know, who, you know, you know her, you're just like, Oh wait, where did I see her again? Because she's been in a lot of those roles.
00:04:20
Julian Contreras Jr
Mm-hmm.
00:04:21
Kendahl
I think Dave Franco kind of falls into that too, though. Dave Franco is probably in that same element.
00:04:25
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, he's made it a long way before he was just kind of like a stand-in for some of the older school movies and all of his brother's friends movies. Like, hey, I got a guy that can play this. It's my brother.
00:04:38
Julian Contreras Jr
Let's do it.
00:04:38
Kendahl
Right.
00:04:38
Julian Contreras Jr
But now he's he's officially stepped up.
00:04:39
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:04:40
Julian Contreras Jr
His name is out there by himself. You don't need James to have Dave necessarily anymore.
00:04:42
Kendahl
Mike I was gonna say, just to clarify, we're talking about James Franco, just to be clear, if that wasn't already clear.
00:04:48
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, yeah. Got it.
00:04:52
Julian Contreras Jr
All right, so I'm going to go down and give this review real quick, and then we'll get to Kendall's questions, and then we'll be out of your hair for the weekend because it is a busy weekend. In fact, SummerSlam is taking two nights of my weekend, and I couldn't be more excited. The story's going to change.
Plot Overview
00:05:10
Julian Contreras Jr
All this other stuff, yada, yada, yada. That's wrestling. Let's get to this.
00:05:17
Julian Contreras Jr
All right, so the movie starts, Kendall, and right away it's it's a little weird. Something's going on that we're not quite sure of, and he wakes up. It's like a little dream, and that's a little bit of a other story, something that happened with his parents. It doesn't really get to anything other than at the beginning.
00:05:36
Kendahl
Okay.
00:05:37
Julian Contreras Jr
But the premise of the movie is that Tim and Millie, they're moving out of the city to get to a smaller school so she can be a teacher.
00:05:47
Julian Contreras Jr
She likes teaching, but she wants to make a bigger difference to kids.
00:05:47
Kendahl
okay
00:05:49
Julian Contreras Jr
And in the bigger city, she feels like she can't do that. So they're moving out. However, Tim hasn't really reached his dreams of becoming a rock star.
00:06:01
Julian Contreras Jr
So he's kind of quote unquote stuck because he doesn't have a driver's license. He can't drive at all. He doesn't have a job. He doesn't pay for anything. He just kind of with Millie as she pays and like supports his dreams.
00:06:17
Julian Contreras Jr
So he's afraid to move out there and reluctant to because he isn't going to be able to drive back to the city to make his gigs and all this other stuff that he wants to do in the city.
00:06:28
Kendahl
huh
00:06:29
Julian Contreras Jr
But he also doesn't want to leave Millie. He loves Millie.
00:06:35
Julian Contreras Jr
And or he loves that Millie is the provider for his lifestyle.
00:06:39
Kendahl
Right, loves being with her.
00:06:41
Julian Contreras Jr
Yes.
00:06:42
Kendahl
Okay.
00:06:43
Julian Contreras Jr
So that is the premise of the movie.
00:06:44
Kendahl
And I think that's, as I say, I think that's, that, that kind of sets a lot up for this film. I i know a lot about the film, even though I haven't seen it, but I think that's why, yeah I get it.
00:06:51
Julian Contreras Jr
Oh, you're going to know a lot more here.
00:06:56
Julian Contreras Jr
So they get to the
Strange Discoveries
00:07:00
Julian Contreras Jr
house out of the city. I don't know where they moved. I can't remember that right now. It's a cute little house.
00:07:07
Julian Contreras Jr
It's a little fixer-upper. Really small town. Like the third day in, they decide to go on a hike because there's a ton of trails and scenery around. So they go on a hike. They get lost.
00:07:20
Julian Contreras Jr
And they have fun little banter back and forth. Like, well, we're lost. And he pulls out his phone. He's like, I have a compass. He's like, that way is north. She's like, what do we do with that information?
00:07:32
Julian Contreras Jr
He's like, I don't know. So it's it's funny little arguments like that.
00:07:35
Kendahl
Okay.
00:07:38
Julian Contreras Jr
He ends up falling down a little hole. And he's holding on. And she's trying to grab him. But they both end up falling down. And it's this weird little...
00:07:50
Julian Contreras Jr
It's not like a cave, but it's kind of like a building, but not really. And they can't get out. So they decide to go further down in and they get to the end of it. And there's kind of like just this water well that's got like all these weird, like what looks like tentacles or roots coming out of the water.
00:08:06
Kendahl
Okay. Mm-hmm.
00:08:07
Julian Contreras Jr
And they're out of water by chance, you know, because they were on a hike. You drink it all. So he pours the thing in. He's like, okay, it's it's good to drink. So he ends up drinking that, but she doesn't want to. And he reaches in the bag and there's a bottle of wine.
00:08:23
Julian Contreras Jr
So I think she just drinks the wine that night and he drinks the water. This is where everything starts to begin when you can see it in the trailers where they just kind of start to be even more attracted to each other, let's say.
00:08:40
Kendahl
More together.
00:08:41
Julian Contreras Jr
More together. There you go. Let's just use the movie title and everything we do.
00:08:47
Kendahl
Okay.
00:08:48
Julian Contreras Jr
But from then on, it's it's him struggling to get to her every time she leaves. like the You've seen it in the trailer, the shower scene where he gets pulled up against the wall.
00:08:59
Julian Contreras Jr
It's when she's driving through town and he's just being thrown up against it in the little box. Finally, he wakes up and gets out of it. So it's his body's struggle to reach her.
00:09:11
Julian Contreras Jr
All right.
00:09:11
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:09:15
Julian Contreras Jr
Later on down the road, she takes him to the train station so he can go to a concert. Right. And she's like, by why don't you just stay there? You've been acting kind of weird.
00:09:28
Julian Contreras Jr
ah Maybe you just need this time away. Maybe it's your anxiety or whatever it is, whatever you get to figure it out. Just stay over there. And so she drives away from the train station. He starts to have a ah an episode, let's say.
00:09:42
Julian Contreras Jr
And he can't leave. He has to follow her. So he makes it to the school and stuff happens. And this is where you finally start to see things becoming together.
00:09:59
Julian Contreras Jr
And then it's a whole part where she's got to go to the neighbor's house because he is the only neighbor that they have. And he's also the teacher that teaches right next to her. So they introduce each other.
00:10:08
Kendahl
What?
00:10:09
Julian Contreras Jr
They're friendly. And he offers her to drink and all this other stuff. And you can kind of see where the movie's going from there.
Horror and Comparisons
00:10:17
Julian Contreras Jr
I don't want to give too much away. That's about halfway point. I don't want to give anything away at the end because I really, really want you guys to go see this movie in theaters.
00:10:25
Julian Contreras Jr
Judging by the rated R-ness of it and... what the concept is, it's probably not going to be in there for too long. So you guys got to go this weekend or next weekend.
00:10:35
Julian Contreras Jr
I don't want you to miss it.
00:10:36
Kendahl
what So I think one of the so one of the things that we were talking about was um what are some of the other movies that the studio has made? And I think it kind of follows along the same line because so Neon Studios, they they typically don't have movies that stay in the theaters for very long.
00:10:52
Julian Contreras Jr
Right, right.
00:10:53
Kendahl
they They stay in maybe for six weeks at best. because they're, they're movies that push the boundaries. um So some of the other ones that, that I w I was thinking of is long legs.
00:11:01
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:11:04
Kendahl
So long legs was one of them.
00:11:06
Julian Contreras Jr
Mm-hmm.
00:11:06
Kendahl
um And then pig, that was the odd Nicholas cage movie where they kill his pig. And he's like, I'm going to go after everybody. Yeah.
00:11:15
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. Farmer John Wick, if you will.
00:11:17
Kendahl
Yeah. And then, um but so the one movie that I remember from from this is Palm Springs. That was a straight to Hulu film, but still ah pretty good. Have you ever seen that one?
00:11:30
Julian Contreras Jr
I have not seen that one.
00:11:32
Kendahl
Okay, that one's pretty good. um it's It's kind of a Groundhog's Day meets... ah let me show you everything that Groundhog's Day didn't show you.
00:11:44
Kendahl
Like, the murdery aspect of what Groundhog's Day could be.
00:11:45
Julian Contreras Jr
All right. Oh, OK. All
00:11:48
Kendahl
So... um but it's But it's comedy.
00:11:50
Julian Contreras Jr
right, interesting.
00:11:52
Kendahl
It's you know it's Andy Samberg. it's just just It's funny. It's it's good.
00:11:56
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:11:56
Kendahl
But... um I mean, Neon Studios, they pushed the boundary. Like, I remember I was at Parasite really came and gone really quick.
00:12:07
Kendahl
And everybody's like, wait, what is this movie? And then it goes on to win a bunch of like independent film awards. And then critics loved it.
00:12:13
Julian Contreras Jr
right
00:12:15
Kendahl
And then it just it's kind of had a cult following at this point because it was just a really interesting concept to a movie. Yeah.
00:12:21
Julian Contreras Jr
Another one that did that recently was Onora.
00:12:25
Kendahl
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:12:26
Julian Contreras Jr
That was another one of theirs.
00:12:26
Kendahl
Yeah, the wasn't that the the girl that got into the the Russian mob, right?
00:12:30
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. Yeah.
00:12:31
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:12:31
Julian Contreras Jr
And I think it won Best Picture in somewhere. i We're not about the awards, but it won.
00:12:34
Kendahl
Yeah, it it did really well. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:12:38
Julian Contreras Jr
Recently, they've done The Monkey. You mentioned Long Legs. ah Sidney Sweeney was in Immaculate. Infinity Pool was even in theaters.
00:12:44
Kendahl
Oh, yeah, Immaculate.
00:12:46
Julian Contreras Jr
These four all hit theaters and were out really fast because of what was in the movies.
00:12:46
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:12:52
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:12:53
Julian Contreras Jr
like If you love A24 and you love Neon, yeah, you're going to see these movies and expect it and kind of know what you're in for.
00:12:53
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:13:01
Julian Contreras Jr
But if you're taking a date and you're like, oh, let's go see this Sidney Sweeney movie, like...
00:13:05
Kendahl
ah The date movie.
00:13:06
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. Okay, yeah. And then by the end of it, you're like, oh I think we should see other people.
00:13:13
Kendahl
Honey, new option. Let's play together.
00:13:22
Julian Contreras Jr
That's it's kind of a the point we're making here. is the the Tim and Billy don't want to see other people, let's say.
00:13:30
Kendahl
Yeah. And i mean, so, okay.
00:13:32
Julian Contreras Jr
All right, you have questions for me.
00:13:35
Kendahl
So my question is, obviously you can't go into too much detail, but the, the, the things that I, so the little like mini documentary that I watched on this, they talked about a lot of like body morphing that had to happen to produce this movie.
00:13:52
Kendahl
It, how, How much did it like, was it like one of those you saw and you're like, that's just stupid. Or did you see it and go, wow.
00:14:05
Julian Contreras Jr
I was leaning more towards the wow.
00:14:05
Kendahl
Mm
00:14:06
Julian Contreras Jr
They did a really good job, I feel, with the CGI for it. And the sound that went aloud. yeah i guess it The sound of what it was happening.
00:14:19
Kendahl
hmm.
00:14:19
Julian Contreras Jr
is like If I heard it again, I'd expect to see somebody morphing into each other now. Because it was just a very unique sound that fit the scene really well.
00:14:28
Kendahl
So and what i what I saw in the documentary is that there was not as much CGI as you think in this. There was actually some practical effects.
00:14:36
Julian Contreras Jr
Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yes.
00:14:37
Kendahl
So, okay. Yeah, and that was one of the things they talked about is that like there was actually more practical effects in this than and had originally been anticipated, but they wanted to kind of try it out and it worked. And so they went with it.
00:14:50
Julian Contreras Jr
yes And of course, um those two being married, they could push the bounds a little bit of how close they could be.
00:14:57
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:14:57
Julian Contreras Jr
There were obviously some scenes that he could not physically do at all.
00:15:03
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:15:03
Julian Contreras Jr
So the one little reel I saw on it was like, he was telling that ah late night host that. And so he has a little clip of him playing with the robot, Dave Franco, and what it can do.
00:15:15
Kendahl
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I saw that.
00:15:18
Julian Contreras Jr
So that was really creepy scene. There was a lot of creepy scenes, Kendall. Some of them like were half dreams where you, it's kind of a dream within a dream where you wake up and you could kind of hear something and you're like, babe, stop, stop breathing.
00:15:33
Julian Contreras Jr
Or, you know, well, don't stop breathing, but ah you turn over and then all of a sudden somebody's looking at you or it's something completely disgusting.
00:15:35
Kendahl
Right. i know what you mean. and
00:15:41
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:15:44
Julian Contreras Jr
It's like,
00:15:44
Kendahl
So I guess, so that was my next question is, did you, did you see in, in this movie where there's times that you just saw it and you're like, okay, that's just gross. I'm done.
00:15:55
Kendahl
I mean, I know that would push the boundary for you, but in this sense, this is a different type of body horror than say, you know, uh, well, anything else that we've talked on about on the show. Yeah.
00:16:05
Julian Contreras Jr
Well, the substance, do you saw that one. That's a lot of body horror.
00:16:08
Kendahl
Right. Oh, yeah.
00:16:10
Julian Contreras Jr
There was...
00:16:10
Kendahl
So like that wasn't like that. There were some scenes in that that was gross. That was like, oh, geez. OK, I hope this moves on fast.
00:16:19
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah. So there were a little bit of those. Be prepared for that.
00:16:23
Kendahl
OK, OK.
00:16:25
Julian Contreras Jr
However, there were some elements that were kind of jump scary. Like the fact that Dave Franco can sit there and tell a story about his past and like when he was a kid and his dad kept finding a smell in his room.
00:16:39
Julian Contreras Jr
And he's like, you got to clean your room three days in a row. You got to clean it. And then the fourth day, the dad is sitting there and he's like, I found it. And he's like, what was it? And he tells him what he found.
00:16:51
Julian Contreras Jr
And the fact that the smell had been so gradual on him that he didn't notice it. And that every time he was doing something, it was basically cooking something that was making the zest, the smell.
00:17:06
Kendahl
Wow.
00:17:06
Julian Contreras Jr
So it goes from that story to something that's happening right now in the movie.
00:17:07
Kendahl
Okay.
00:17:12
Julian Contreras Jr
And it's just, yeah, it's a correlation.
00:17:12
Kendahl
Oh, and there's a correlation. Okay, I got it.
00:17:15
Julian Contreras Jr
And then he goes into, well, there's a part of the story that I never told you about that night.
Technical Praise
00:17:20
Julian Contreras Jr
And Millie's like, okay, do you want to tell me now? And he's he just starts going into it.
00:17:27
Julian Contreras Jr
And it that smell story leads into something that was completely creepy, Kendall. I don't even want to go into it.
00:17:35
Julian Contreras Jr
like It was, wow. I looked over at my buddy Casey and i was like, what was that? is it's It's a great movie.
00:17:35
Kendahl
Okay.
00:17:44
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:17:46
Julian Contreras Jr
I'm going to give you my rating right now before we answer any more questions.
00:17:46
Kendahl
Okay.
00:17:49
Julian Contreras Jr
But this is definitely an eight and a half, a nine.
00:17:51
Kendahl
Wow.
00:17:52
Julian Contreras Jr
The only thing that holds it a little back is the very, very end of the movie.
00:17:52
Kendahl
Okay. so
00:17:57
Kendahl
Okay.
00:17:57
Julian Contreras Jr
But there really wasn't a way to end this movie per se
00:18:03
Kendahl
So I'm just correlating like body horror type. So like substance and this.
00:18:09
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:18:11
Kendahl
ah in In like how... ah think of course so Substance um I'll never watch again. Like I just... It was good, but it wasn't that good. You know what i mean
00:18:19
Julian Contreras Jr
He'll never watch it again and I'm waiting to purchase it so I can watch it again. That's how different we are.
00:18:23
Kendahl
mean? But that's okay. So it's not that it was a bad movie by any means. I... i You know, it was a good movie. But my point is, is like would... well Is this like in that same level of interest?
00:18:36
Julian Contreras Jr
So substance went way further. Let's just say that they went way further.
00:18:39
Kendahl
Okay. Okay.
00:18:40
Julian Contreras Jr
They, they threw the whole nine yards at you. This one stopped at midpoint.
00:18:45
Kendahl
Okay. And then start over again.
00:18:47
Julian Contreras Jr
yeah
00:18:49
Kendahl
Okay. right. All right. So that's, I guess I get that. So um I guess for everybody out there that's listening, would you recommend that they go see it in theaters or is it one that they could wait to see at home to be like at that more comfortable level? Cause I know some of these kinds of movies are hard to watch in a group setting at a theater.
00:19:10
Julian Contreras Jr
Yes. I mean, you know me. I love the theater experience. I love those type of movies with a full theater because you get the gasps.
00:19:14
Kendahl
Mm-hmm.
00:19:18
Julian Contreras Jr
You get the the people behind you going, oh my, ah, that's so gross.
00:19:18
Kendahl
Okay, I gotcha.
00:19:23
Julian Contreras Jr
Or the people that leave, that get up and leave and you're like, yeah, you didn't make it. But
00:19:28
Kendahl
Okay.
00:19:30
Julian Contreras Jr
yeah, you could definitely wait for just see this at home. It's going to be a great movie either way.
00:19:34
Kendahl
okay All right.
00:19:36
Julian Contreras Jr
But I personally, I love the other experiences around. I love being immersed with a huge screen, the big sound, the dark room.
00:19:39
Kendahl
So
00:19:44
Julian Contreras Jr
Because I feel like if you watch this at a lunch break, when you're like, oh, the kids are at school, i got nothing better to do. Julian said to watch this movie. going to watch it and pure daylight. It'd be fine. Be on my phone, scrolling TikTok, doing dishes.
00:19:56
Kendahl
Mm hmm.
00:19:57
Julian Contreras Jr
It's not going to give you the same feel as I got in the theater with my buddies.
00:20:00
Kendahl
Gotcha. So that's the question is like, so was it was the theater? I don't want to say packed, but did you have more than just your group?
00:20:08
Julian Contreras Jr
It was opening night. There were maybe 20 of us total.
00:20:13
Kendahl
Oh, OK.
00:20:14
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:20:14
Kendahl
All right.
00:20:15
Julian Contreras Jr
You could see the people walking in with their dates and I was like, good luck.
00:20:15
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:20:18
Julian Contreras Jr
Good.
00:20:18
Kendahl
ha
00:20:19
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:20:20
Kendahl
Yeah, this will be fun.
00:20:22
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:20:24
Kendahl
So, yeah, I mean, and that's the thing, right, is it's we, you know, think every I remember going and seeing Event Horizon in the theaters and that's exactly what it was like. That was that was pushing the boundaries back then the late early 2000. Right.
00:20:40
Kendahl
And um I remember sitting in the theater and it was exactly that. There was actually one point where, so where someone says something and I was like, well, he's not doing that again. And I said it out loud and everybody in the theater started laughing, but it was just it was one of those weird moments where everybody was like stunned because it was the scene where it, um,
00:21:03
Kendahl
I can't, I can't remember exactly what happened. And i remember seeing, it was like somebody had like gouged their eyes out or something and like everybody gasped and the whole freaking theater was just quiet, like as quiet as it can be because of that scene.
00:21:16
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:21:19
Kendahl
And I do remember, though but there were a few people that walked out when they played the video back, right? When they were watching everything that was happening on the ship.
00:21:29
Julian Contreras Jr
okay
00:21:29
Kendahl
And they were in that moment, it was just really bunch of body horrors, just people ripping things apart, every body parts flying everywhere. And there were people getting up and walking out. And so I do, what I'm saying is I do agree. i Having that moment, you're like, ha, sucker, you didn't know what you were getting into.
00:21:45
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:21:45
Kendahl
ha,
00:21:46
Julian Contreras Jr
So I will say my absolute favorite part is when the credits started to roll after it all ended and nobody stood up right away. We all kind of just sat there until I think my buddy stood up first and then everyone started to follow. And we were all silent on the way out until we got through the doors where the light actually hit us. And we all just kind of went,
00:22:10
Julian Contreras Jr
so how are you? like And we were all feeling that. It was so cool to have the whole theater. Granted it wasn't full. There was 20 of us, but just in silence, walking out and shuffling, like we've just seen something that we need to process before we speak about it until we get to about 20 feet out.
00:22:28
Kendahl
Yeah.
00:22:32
Julian Contreras Jr
And then you can hear people start to chatter and laugh, start to make those jokes.
00:22:37
Kendahl
Well, um, you know, I mean, that's the thing though, is that I'm trying to think of one of the other, um trying to think of one of the other movies that they had played and i want to say it was um they had done uh give me a second here wasn't it um
00:22:58
Julian Contreras Jr
don't Why you look that up?
00:22:59
Kendahl
oh shoot I can't remember the name of the movie and anyway keep going
00:23:01
Julian Contreras Jr
To wrap this all up, Dave Franco was great. Alison Brie was fantastic. The chemistry is undeniable, obviously.
00:23:12
Julian Contreras Jr
Great movie. Ending, it's okay. But everything up until that last part was amazingly fantastic. I can't recognize Neon and this movie together enough right now just because I want to go see it again, but I'm super busy and I got to finish up stuff before this weekend.
00:23:29
Kendahl
Okay.
00:23:34
Julian Contreras Jr
But I do want to see it again. i don't care if I have to go by myself just because I know what's going to happen now. I kind of want to see if there's any more dead giveaways. And shout out to the Spice Girls because they had a huge part of this movie.
00:23:49
Kendahl
okay
00:23:50
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, you'll get it. You'll get it.
00:23:54
Kendahl
um um trying to I was trying to think of the movie and i my brain is just lost on it. But um I mean, that's the thing is Neon Studios, they've done um kind of all over the place. But what was the one movie about like, but i don't know, they've had a lot of movies about like serial killer type elements. So and they and it does, it makes you just stop and like sit back and go.
00:24:19
Kendahl
OK, what did I just what did I just watch?
00:24:20
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah, exactly.
00:24:21
Kendahl
what did i What did I just see? And you have to process it all at once. Right. And so I did read that this movie has an interesting ending.
Closing Thoughts
00:24:32
Kendahl
And so it it's, it's definitely a, uh, sit back, think, and, you know, wonder where your life is. ah You got to this point in watching this movie. Yeah.
00:24:44
Julian Contreras Jr
Yeah.
00:24:45
Kendahl
a
00:24:45
Julian Contreras Jr
All right. ah We love being here with you guys. I hope this review slash whatever we talked about gets you to go see this movie.
00:24:58
Julian Contreras Jr
I think you'll like it. You know, if you like my taste in movies, it's definitely go not going to be How to Train Your Dragon. I'll tell you that right now.
00:25:05
Kendahl
that No. Oh, geez.
00:25:07
Julian Contreras Jr
ah It's not going to be your typical Willy Wonka movie either, even though there's some stretched out taffy.
00:25:14
Kendahl
oh geez
00:25:16
Julian Contreras Jr
But that's all I have for you on Together. Kendall, you know what to do. you have any final words for us?
00:25:26
Kendahl
ah You know what Have a great weekend. I feel like everywhere right now, regardless of where you're at, it seems like it's pretty good weather. Just enjoy the weekend. It's been crazy the last few days for us around here, so it's nice to have some nice weather.
00:25:41
Kendahl
Go have fun. Go hug your friends, hug your parents, hug your loved ones, wherever you want to. if they don't want to get a hug, just give my handshake. But make sure make sure you you tell those around you that you know they're there.
00:25:55
Kendahl
Remind them that you see them. Remind them that you love them. Remind them the how important they are. And, you know, last thing... Remember to do something for yourself. That's what the show's about.
00:26:06
Kendahl
Julian and I do it all the time. we sit down, we watch a movie, watch a show just because it's something we want to do. And it's what helps us decompress from the world and the things. That's why we shut off the world and turn on something good.
00:26:18
Kendahl
And just remember that that's an important thing. It's okay to do that every once in a while.
00:26:23
Julian Contreras Jr
Nice. Very well said. And until next time, whiskey for the pain.
