Kendahl: Welcome back. Welcome back. Welcome back. You are currently, hopefully, still listening to shut off turn on this is Kendall.
Kendahl: If you forgot who I am, and this guy over here, he's I think it's Julian.
Julian Contreras Jr: I'm Julian and they're never going to forget. Like we were on spring break. It's no big deal.
Kendahl: So, you know, we we apologize for being out for a little bit. But, you know, I think you have remember we're both we're we're both busy. We have lives. We have we have wives and we've got children and things to do. And yeah. And so I'm just saying, welcome back. I I was texting Julian just a couple days ago. I'm like, all right, now that things have settled down for the two of us, when we doing this?
Kendahl: okay
Julian Contreras Jr: And I was itching to get back in here. I told him whenever, wherever I was off today, let's do it.
Kendahl: Yeah, right. And well and and the the lucky thing was that so was i So, you know, it happens to be that we had we had fate.
Julian Contreras Jr: Perfect.
Kendahl: It was fate.
Julian Contreras Jr: It was meant to be.
Kendahl: So, okay. I mean, a little bit of time has passed by, but how are you doing?
Julian Contreras Jr: Doing well, just getting along. Sports are going well. We're almost through soccer season. Obviously, basketball playoffs are coming up. We survived March Madness. We passed all that up.
Julian Contreras Jr: All that was super fun.
Kendahl: I mean, we're in...
Julian Contreras Jr: have a list of movies.
Kendahl: Now we're in full swing.
Julian Contreras Jr: What?
Kendahl: and said now we're in full swing, baseball.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yep, that's right. my My team's not doing so hot, but you know there's a lot of season left, so we'll see.
Kendahl: Just a little bit.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, still waiting on that Dodger three-peat, though.
Julian Contreras Jr: Hopefully I don't jinx that, but I'm pretty sure I can't.
Kendahl: Oh, man.
Julian Contreras Jr: Even my saying it out loud isn't.
Kendahl: You just put a... You just put a pin in that one for the universe.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, well, I did it last year, and it worked out just fine. So three three in a row, let's go.
Kendahl: That's true. It's true.
Julian Contreras Jr: That should be a shirt right there.
Kendahl: There you go. With the Dodgers colors, logo at logo and white.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: So, all right, I've been doing good. I'm watching a lot of TV. I have a lot of shows to talk about, but we're not going to go into super depth on them because the list is a long, long game.
Kendahl: Well, and I mean, I think a couple of things that we want to talk about, there's a lot of spoilers involved, so we want to kind of hold back on it, and I think we're just going to give like our impressions so far.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, for sure.
Kendahl: but
Julian Contreras Jr: Definitely not a spoiler unless it's a movie that what came out in the 80s and then going to spoil that thing like crazy.
Kendahl: Oh my gosh, speaking of the 80s. Okay, so it's not 80s, it's 90s. Have you seen the video? It's, I swear, it's making its rounds on social media because I've seen it twice now.
Kendahl: it's the It's the AI generated recreation shot for shot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles intro.
Julian Contreras Jr: No, I have not seen that one.
Kendahl: Oh, okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: I've seen a lot of AI stuff. A lot of Alan Richardson AI videos is what I've seen.
Kendahl: Dude. Okay, hold up. got to tell you a funny story because i find myself pretty – I'll put myself up there. I don't get duped by AI too often.
Kendahl: But, and this was not one that duped me. But when that Alan Richardson thing came up, my wife comes out and she's like, did you see this new movie he's in? and I was like, yeah, honey, we just watched it. called, it's called War Machine.
Kendahl: She's like, no, the the one in like the neighborhood where he's like beating up a bully. And I went, oh, honey, that's, That's AI. She's like, no. And I said, no, it's it's based off of a real event that happened because it happened to be recorded.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: And they just took that and dumped it into AI. And she goes, no, really? and she usually doesn't get caught up on AI, but that was funny. That was funny.
Julian Contreras Jr: If there's any video out there that will teach you to wait for all the videos and all sources to come out, that is one before you jump to any conclusions on what happened.
Kendahl: Right.
Julian Contreras Jr: Because that was insane. I remember the first day that came out. And I was like, oh man, that's Reacher. This seems pretty bad. He's just beating this guy up. And then i was like, well, hold on. I'm going pump the brakes. I'm only going to watch this once. I'll wait for tomorrow.
Kendahl: Yep.
Julian Contreras Jr: And sure enough, he tweeted or put something out there and was like, don't interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake.
Kendahl: Yep. Yeah.
Kendahl: Mm-hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: And I was like, all right, all right, we'll wait. And then sure enough, his video came out and showed both sides of the story in real time.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: And it was, wow.
Kendahl: That POV was a very, very much different story than the original video that posted. That dude was trying to get TMZ to pay him.
Julian Contreras Jr: Exactly.
Kendahl: So as they might have.
Julian Contreras Jr: And they might have. they They might have issued that first check.
Kendahl: And if if you guys don't know what we're talking about, go look it up. It's, you know, Alan Richardson getting kind of in an altercation with a, i guess, a neighbor of his, you put it. But I we're not here to tell you the side.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: You go watch the videos, but make sure you see the video from Alan Richardson's position because that makes a huge difference.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, because it was like as soon as it came i was like, War Machine just came out and it's due for a sequel. But now this, like what's going to happen?
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Like, oh, I'm pretty sure War Machine 2 is going to happen.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: It's no biggie. But anyway, enough with all that stuff.
Kendahl: Oh, anyway.
Julian Contreras Jr: How you doing? Is there any show you want to talk about right off the jump street?
Kendahl: Oh, man. i'm Well, okay. I'm going to talk about Invincible. If you guys haven't watched Invincible, I know you haven't because we've been back and forth on this.
Julian Contreras Jr: I have not.
Kendahl: But, oh, my gosh. This season is insane. Insane. And I don't mean that. Like, last year, when we when this show came out on the new you know the new season, what was it, season four, i I was mad. It was dumb. I felt like I was whatever.
Kendahl: this is Where is it going? Yeah. And this season came straight out the gate with just like, holy crap. And then episode, yeah episode one, two and three dropped right away.
Kendahl: Just golden. Great. Very good. Like I just could not stop watching. Episode four came out and I said, What is this garbage? It be.
Julian Contreras Jr: I remember you texted me that and I was like, i still haven't watched.
Kendahl: Oh, my gosh. I don't even i cannot understand why they put that episode out. It is complete garbage. It is so bad. i I can't tell you how fast I was like, OK, like fast forwarding it, fast forwarding it. That's nothing happened.
Julian Contreras Jr: Is it another flashback episode?
Kendahl: Nothing happened. No, he no spoiler alert.
Julian Contreras Jr: No?
Kendahl: I'm not to give this out. I'm so sorry if you're not if you're watching it and you haven't seen this episode. I'm not spoiling it, but I'm going spoil it. He goes to fight Satan.
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh, wow. Okay.
Kendahl: Exactly.
Julian Contreras Jr: Was that an Easter episode?
Kendahl: And it goes it goes literally as good as your as your like your implication right there had. Yes. Oh, wow.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: OK.
Julian Contreras Jr: I figured that one out.
Kendahl: And yeah, right. Right. Okay, so, you know, Detective What's-His-Name comes back into play, the devil, or the demon demon detective.
Kendahl: So he does come back into play in this one. But why? For what reason? There's no reason.
Julian Contreras Jr: yeah but
Kendahl: It has nothing. It does nothing for the story. Oh, it's garbage. Anyway, the next two episodes... Amazing. I, I literally got frustrated in the one episode because I was like, there's no way.
Kendahl: There's no way they just did that. And I just finished episode seven. And i I have no idea where they're gonna with episode eight because holy cow.
Kendahl: It's it was amazing.
Julian Contreras Jr: Is there any indication that it's the final season?
Kendahl: No, geez, I hope not.
Julian Contreras Jr: No? Okay. All right. Cool, cool, cool.
Kendahl: Because they're they're they're leveling up this story coming into episode eight. Unless episode eight is like a two-hour finale movie, there's just no way they could finish this this this whole universe out.
Kendahl: There's just not.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay. All right.
Kendahl: It's super incredible. ha
Julian Contreras Jr: Nice.
Kendahl: Pun made.
Julian Contreras Jr: Nice. There you go. You did it. You got it. All right.
Kendahl: No, but otherwise, I mean, yeah sorry.
Julian Contreras Jr: Before I talk about a
Kendahl: I was like, other than that, like, i honestly, so i we're not going to talk about it right now, but I did start The Boys. I i did get into that.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yes.
Kendahl: this I haven't finished the ones that have dropped, but I have started it, so it's good.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: It's good.
Julian Contreras Jr: I mean, for those first two episodes, there's not a lot to talk about except for they are back.
Kendahl: Mm-hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: This looks like it may be the final season. I am not sure on what happens.
Kendahl: Yeah. Nah, it's.
Julian Contreras Jr: So
Kendahl: So, I mean, do you, should we just talk about it
Julian Contreras Jr: yeah, that's fine with me.
Kendahl: All right.
Julian Contreras Jr: That's where I was going to go before I got onto other shows.
Kendahl: Cool. Yeah. Let's talk about it. So, uh, I, so the, the first thing I want to start with the conversation with, cause I know you've got notes on it, but, the thing is a lot of people are talking about the political nature of this show, right?
Kendahl: I've seen it on social media before I even started watching you, you had texted me and you said, Hey, you know, this is what I'm hearing.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: And we talked about it a little bit too on on the phone and, like I get it. I can see it. I can see the political nature of it. But the thing is, I watched this interview with Eric with eric Kripke, who's the guy that is the creator for The Voice.
Kendahl: And he said, I wrote these episodes this whole season, the finale season, because that's what he he keeps calling the final season. So I'm going with that. He said, I wrote this final season back in 2023.
Kendahl: So anything that's correlating to today or things that have happened in the last like eight months, six months, year, whatever. It is pure coincidence. it is It has nothing to do with he's writing to then make fun of or bring in politics. That's not what it was.
Kendahl: He wrote these episodes three years ago.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, you really have to put yourself in the universe of the boys.
Kendahl: So...
Julian Contreras Jr: You can't put ours and think it's the same universe. It's not.
Kendahl: Yeah, I mean, they're they're trying to correlate some of it. I get it. They're they're using verbiage and and some of the things to do that, but yeah, and it's not. So anyway, politics aside, it's cool. I like it. I can see where it's going, and i'm I'm curious how they're going to play this out because I can see that, yeah, I don't want to even say anything yet, but I can see where it's heading.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: It's going to be interesting.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay. Because it might not because the end of that second episode something happens and it's something may or may not work the way they think it's going to work.
Kendahl: Mm-hmm. Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: It's the very last second of the episode on episode two.
Kendahl: right. I'll have to watch it. I'll finish watching it today. I'll finish watching it today for sure. But
Julian Contreras Jr: I think they dropped. Do they drop Thursdays?
Kendahl: they might. Oh, yes, they do.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay. See ya.
Kendahl: Because, yeah, because Incredibles incredible is on Wednesday.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay, so yeah, episode three and four may be waiting for me after this episode.
Kendahl: wait, no.
Kendahl: They might be.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay, anyway, tune into The Boys.
Kendahl: So...
Julian Contreras Jr: If you've watched it, this one does not disappoint. Like Kendall said, it does like resemble any political stuff that is going on in the world. But go into the universe of The Boys.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Don't think it's trying to be here on our Earth, if that makes any sense.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: I know it sounds stupid and nerdy to say.
Kendahl: Well, that goes into, I mean, that's the whole mantra of our show, right? Shut off. Put the world aside and throw yourself into what's going on in this world. Like just ignore the fact that there's correlations because that's not always how it works.
Kendahl: But, Hey, I do have a question though.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: So you and i we were talking the other day about mother's milk and his size and how, you know, you had met him and you thought, Oh, he's a little bit smaller.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: And he, he does look smaller in this one. I found out a little backstory about mother's milk that is not talked about anywhere. Do you know his origin story?
Julian Contreras Jr: In the boys?
Kendahl: Yeah. Well, just in the, this, yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: No.
Kendahl: In this, the, the originality of, of mother's milk m m in the series. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: No, I do not.
Kendahl: Okay, so I didn't know this. And without getting into too much beyond the PG moment, so the reason he's called Mother's Milk is that he actually is a Vought mutant.
Kendahl: he's he's He is a product of Vought. He has he has the V going through him, right, in the in the the comics.
Julian Contreras Jr: okay
Kendahl: But the only way that he can keep, he's like super strong. And it was actually really funny because they made and they made a nod like moment, like kind of said something about it in one of the episodes this season.
Kendahl: And he's extremely strong, like just super strong. But the only way that he can keep that is by drinking his mother's milk. And so that's where he gets his name is Mother's Milk is because that's how he keeps his strength.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: Even as he gets older and becomes an adult, his mother is a key figure for his mother was a like a Vought employee at one of the plants when they were producing it.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: And so when they were producing V and she got exposed and her superpower was basically again, keeping it PG, her milk produced V.
Kendahl: And when she gave birth to MM, he was dependent on it to keep his strength.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: And so that's why he's called Mother's Note.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay, good to know. And anybody listening that doesn't watch The Boys heard all that and was like, what?
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: But it's fine. you it's a Yeah, because I think it's Starlight's boyfriend that says it, right?
Kendahl: But there's nothing in this, there's nothing in the show that has anything to do with it. They've they've completely removed his entire storyline, which is kind of weird.
Julian Contreras Jr: He's like, you're the strongest man I know. Something like that.
Kendahl: yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: He's like, you've always been the strongest man I know. Right. And so that's what's that's what's kind of interesting is how like they've just ignored that fact.
Kendahl: Right. But anyway, so that's that's the boys.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: It's good. I totally recommend if you you know, obviously, if you've been listening to a long time, we've talked about the boys a lot, a lot.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah. Okay. To keep this episode rolling, hu see, I'm going to do it now.
Kendahl: So yeah,
Julian Contreras Jr: HBO had the five episodes of the documentary Born to Bowl.
Kendahl: Oh, dude,
Julian Contreras Jr: You see what I did there?
Kendahl: I did see what you did there. i like it.
Julian Contreras Jr: It was, if you're a bowler and you know this PBA league at all, some of these, going to call them characters, but they're not characters.
Julian Contreras Jr: They're real life people that do this sport. It focused on five of them. And it was a great little behind the scenes of them on tour for one season.
Julian Contreras Jr: And one thing that I did learn, they swear a lot, Kendall.
Kendahl: Really?
Julian Contreras Jr: You think when we were bowling and we cursed a little bit that we were the only ones doing it? No, no, no, no. It's crazy how much they swear when they're bowling.
Julian Contreras Jr: But it was really good. It was good to see the behind the scenes. I'm sad it was only five episodes. And I think it did say series finale. So I don't know if they'll do a second one.
Kendahl: heard that it was a it was a limited series.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah. So it was a lot of fun. If you, there's super short episodes too. So if you're bored at work one day and you want to watch some, you have HP on your phone, give it a shot. It gives you a real insight to these guys lives doing bowling tours.
Julian Contreras Jr: Not a lot of money in it.
Kendahl: I yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: They say, they say that clear out. They're mainly doing it for love of the game.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: And some of them are the greatest to ever do it. And some are trying to get there.
Kendahl: I think people forget how much of a sport bowling kind of is, though, because i mean, like a good example, like EJ Tackett, he's he is literally one of the greatest bowlers to have ever done the sport.
Julian Contreras Jr: But,
Kendahl: Right. And. the dude is throwing a 16-pound bowling ball at freaking like 21 miles an hour. i mean, I throw 15-pound ball myself, and i'm I'm typically right around like 15, 16 miles an hour, and I think I'm launching that sucker.
Kendahl: And I'm just like, man, this dude is just wasting my speed away, and he makes it look like he could throw it even harder.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: And so I just – I mean, the the amount of time that these guys obviously –
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: take to some of them. Let me emphasize some of them because we know that some of them don't. But workout obviously they they work on themselves. It is a sport.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, you can see it like you don't even really notice it, but they're packing up their bowling balls into their six ball bag or their four ball bag. And they have two of them and they just pick them up like it's nothing.
Kendahl: Right.
Julian Contreras Jr: Like did some of them do have wheels, but you still have to get that off the ground. And you see him just pick them up and he starts walking away all angry.
Kendahl: Right.
Julian Contreras Jr: You're like, that dude's carrying eight balls right now.
Kendahl: I mean, think about that. i mean, if you've got, yeah, if you've got, I mean, if you even if you've got a three ball bag and you put three of them in there, that's 45 pounds plus the weight of the bag, which is, you know, five, 10 pounds.
Kendahl: I mean, your're' you're manhandling an easy 50 pounds and those guys pick it up like it's just like, yeah okay, and they put it up in their truck at times. Jeez, I've seen it.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, Anthony Simonson, he loads the back of his truck, and his little hatchback, and he's throwing bag after bag after bag in there.
Kendahl: It's like, wow, that's crazy.
Kendahl: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Like, that's got to be terrible for gas mileage.
Kendahl: Right. hu But cool.
Julian Contreras Jr: But that's Born to Bull, HBO. All episodes available now. Go out there and watch that and enjoy it. And one of the shows that I did start talking about before our spring break was DTF St.
Julian Contreras Jr: Louis with Jason Bateman and David Harbour.
Kendahl: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: It is officially done. It was only a seven episode series. There is no season two.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: And I will say this show had the most sad ending that I have ever seen. I think in my life.
Kendahl: Really?
Julian Contreras Jr: i hit we The episode ended and my wife was watching with me and I looked at her when the credits were rolling and I was like, well, that sucked. like It was so sad, Kendall.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: And I can't really explain it without giving away the entire ending, so I'm not going to.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: But for seven 45-minute episodes, definitely give this one a shot. I mean, it is definitely not safe for work. some episodes Some episodes are,
Kendahl: Oh, the title.
Julian Contreras Jr: but
Kendahl: The title alone.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, it was a great series. i liked it a lot, and it just ended so sad. It was crazy.
Kendahl: I've heard some good things about it.
Julian Contreras Jr: But, yeah.
Kendahl: Mm-hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: That one's also on HBO. Give those a look. I can't think of anything else I'm watching right now besides The Floor is Back.
Kendahl: I can be honest, i I started digging back into an oldie but goodie.
Julian Contreras Jr: No, there's no more series.
Kendahl: I went back to Modern Family.
Julian Contreras Jr: right, that's a good one.
Kendahl: Yeah, you know, I just, we I just feel like, you know, when we when we talk about this show, you know, we talk all the time about how the intent of when we came together and we were like, and Julian approached me, and he's like, dude, I've got this idea.
Kendahl: And then we just really started building it up. And it just kind of fit this notion of the both of us. I mean, the one thing that that Julian and I have been doing for, oh my gosh, dude, how long has it been 18 years?
Julian Contreras Jr: yeah so Yeah, time flies.
Kendahl: 2000. Yeah, almost. Dude, it'll be twenty it'll be almost 20 years. Oh, my goodness. So we've we've known each other. Next year, it'll be 20 years. And that's crazy to me.
Kendahl: Dude, that just that just kind of set me in my seat. What?
Kendahl: Jeez.
Julian Contreras Jr: We have some listeners that are have been with us that long too.
Kendahl: I know.
Julian Contreras Jr: Jay, I'm looking at you. I know you're going text me with this shout out, but Jay, you're right there with us, buddy.
Kendahl: Oh, jeez. Stop. a
Julian Contreras Jr: You came into our lives and we didn't even know what to expect.
Julian Contreras Jr: And you certainly enlightened us. And I thank you every day for that. That was awesome.
Kendahl: Oh, man. Some of the stories we have of that one. Okay. Anyway, but no. Anyway, when we when we started talking about the show, we legitimately were like, okay, well, you know, this is what we do.
Kendahl: this is This is what you and I do. We literally, we put on a show because work sucked or the news sucked or, you know, there was nothing really good to just cheer us up or bring us into something that we could smile at or, you know, just...
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah. Yeah.
Kendahl: engage us, right? Just make us forget about what was going on around us. And honestly, there were so many times I was like, dude, I'm just so pissed off. I need something to really just like get my mind off this. And you'd be like, hey, this is this.
Kendahl: And you'd show, you know, you'd send me an idea or you know, you'd bring a DVD and hey, dude, watch the series. a Dexter. i didn't even know. i hadn't even put that on my radar. And you're like, dude, you have to start this.
Kendahl: And, you know, I mean, the the thing is, is we do this all the time, but we we mean it. These shows that we talk about, they're literally there to just, we need to shut the world off sometimes and just, you know, turn something good on.
Kendahl: And that's, for me, that's what it's been for Modern Family this because it's so funny.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: It's relatable. I've got five kids. And so at every turn when there's things going on in that house, it's like, oh my gosh, this, that is my house.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: Okay, that's my house. So anyway, so all right, let's talk about let's talk about some movies.
Julian Contreras Jr: Awesome.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yes, I have quite the rundown, the big box office movies.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: I have a list here. I'm going to run down. you Let me know if you've seen it or not. I think you've only seen one of these, but it's totally fine. We'll lead off with that one.
Kendahl: Okay, that works.
Julian Contreras Jr: We got to talk about the big blockbuster right before we went to spring break was the movie Super Mario Brothers Galaxy was coming out.
Kendahl: Yes, yes. See,
Julian Contreras Jr: I had to get my ticket a month in advance to get three.
Kendahl: And I have actually refused to even ask you about this because I wanted to have this moment. So let's hear it.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, I liked it a lot. I think the first one was still better, but I loved this movie as well.
Kendahl: hmm.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: You didn't necessarily need to see the first one besides you need to know where Yoshi came from, basically.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: But i don' I can't say anything bad about Galaxy. I know there's stuff in the news about it, but yeah like we just said, shut don't even bother.
Kendahl: Hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: It's just the world of Nintendo.
Kendahl: Yeah. It's you.
Julian Contreras Jr: These characters, yeah. Bowser was a delight. Bowser Jr. was awesome. I did not look into this movie at all besides the couple trailers. So I didn't even realize that Star Fox was in it.
Kendahl: Oh, OK.
Julian Contreras Jr: And as soon as he showed up when they had needed a ship and he was cleaning it, I leaned over and i was like, it's, it's Star Fox.
Kendahl: That's cool.
Julian Contreras Jr: And it was fun for me. I didn't ruin that for myself.
Kendahl: Mm
Julian Contreras Jr: And then of course, Glenn Powell being the voice actor for that was, it was awesome.
Kendahl: hmm. That dude's everywhere i now.
Julian Contreras Jr: What did you think? Did you like it as much or no?
Kendahl: I had tickets to go see it and I had to cancel it because of stuff going on in the house. So I yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay. So you have not seen it yet.
Kendahl: that
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh, so I just ruined Star Fox for you.
Kendahl: No, I haven't. I haven't. Yeah, the the worst part was is we had tickets to go to go see it. And then I won't bore you guys with the long part of the story, but the AC in my house went out.
Kendahl: And so I had to be home for them to install it. So it was over the time, blah, blah, blah. But yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: right. So I'm going to Super Mario Galaxy. I'm giving that one an eight. Just...
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: the same number I gave the regular Mario brothers.
Kendahl: Yeah. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Next movie on the list that I saw was ready or not too with Samara weaving.
Kendahl: Okay, can I before you say anything, I'm going to tell you, I opened the preview of this. Okay, I opened up Instagram the other day, and it popped up on my Instagram as a preview. And it's the scene where the two of them are sitting in front of Elijah. What can do his name?
Kendahl: All of huh?
Julian Contreras Jr: Would Elijah would.
Kendahl: Yeah, yeah, Elijah Wood. I'm like, Elijah something. Anyway, when they're sitting in front of Elijah Wood and they both have the things on their face and she's like making the moaning sound and he like rips the or they rip off the the one gag.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: It just it sounds terrible if you have no context to it. And I had my phone like full volume and I didn't realize it.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: yeah
Kendahl: and My wife's like, what are you watching? It's a preview. And I had to turn and show her. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: and
Julian Contreras Jr: it's It's a good movie. If you've seen number one, this movie literally starts... from the end of one. Like, you could splice them together and it would run concurrent.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: It's that fast.
Kendahl: So she so she was pretty beat up at the end of one though.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, I'm telling you, it's the exact same stairs, right where she walks out and sits down.
Kendahl: Uh
Kendahl: huh.
Julian Contreras Jr: That's literally where this one starts.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: All right.
Julian Contreras Jr: So... It... It's great. I like it. If you like this movie, if you like... I guess it's action adventure with a little bit of devil stuff in it with a ton of blood and gore.
Kendahl: Mm-hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: This is right up your alley.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: I think it's great. I give it a seven.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: The next day i went and saw they will kill you came out the same week, I think, or maybe a week later.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: It also involved devil worship. It, This girl goes to a hotel. They will kill you. She starts fighting it like John Wick style trying to survive.
Kendahl: okay
Julian Contreras Jr: Gets a little twisty and also really, really bloody.
Kendahl: And so it doesn't sound like you like this one as much.
Julian Contreras Jr: I did not. I give this one a five and a half. The only thing I really, really liked was the end. There is a pig's head on a stick.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: That's all I'm going to say. If you've seen this movie, that was my absolute favorite part. I thought it was awesome, amazing CGI.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: That really brought up the score. If it hadn't had that part, it'd probably be a lot lower.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: But if you what I was going to say in the episode is if you needed to watch a movie that was about devil worship, definitely go see Ready or Not 2. It was much better of the two.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: One that is on my list that I need to go see, and I want to go see it soon before it drops out, is the drama with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.
Kendahl: The drama. I don't know that one. Oh, yes, yes, yes. Okay. Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: I finally saw a full trailer. I thought it was just going to be a wedding movie that had some stuff going on, and then I saw another trailer on Ready or Not 2 where they played a game and they said the worst thing that they've ever done, but they purposely don't tell you what Zendaya says.
Julian Contreras Jr: So I kind of want to know what she did because everyone's face just drops in the room. Like, you know, that's that's a lie.
Kendahl: Yeah, yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Right. And then it's him reevaluating if he knows her as a person. I really want to see this one. I'm pretty sure it's 24 because I love 24.
Kendahl: It is.
Julian Contreras Jr: i'll I'll go see that one and I'll wrap this one up but on the next episode.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: One that I had to go see super late at night, because like 10.15 was the start time, and I had to go travel to see this one. The new Faces of Death movie, Kendall.
Kendahl: Oh, geez.
Julian Contreras Jr: I don't know if you've seen this trailer at all.
Kendahl: OK, I I only know of it through like rumors. It was one of those. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: For safety purposes, I'm only going to focus on this movie, And that's it. I'm not going to say anything else. This movie alone, the 2026 version of it, it was actually pretty good.
Julian Contreras Jr: It was better than i was expecting. It's from Shudder. So of course it's going to be scary, gory, lower budget.
Kendahl: OK. Makes sense. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: I'm not going to say low budget, but it's lower. It was actually pretty good.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: I'm not going to go into anything super crazy about it, but I will say there is one scene that I was kind of afraid they were going to show and they did show it.
Julian Contreras Jr: And I'm not even kidding. The guy I went with can attest to this. Six people instantly got up and left the theater, Kendall. Six.
Kendahl: Oh, wow. Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: Just up and left the theater. I turned over to my buddy. was like, was that? He's like, yeah, that was crazy. But knowing what regulations you have to go through to get a movie into a theater and from the 1987 movie, which is what the scene was from, you have to know that that scene is not real.
Kendahl: Right.
Julian Contreras Jr: That movie from 87 may have had us duped in the past before the internet and all that stuff. but you didn't really see what you think you saw. right.
Kendahl: Right.
Julian Contreras Jr: going to put that one out there. So it's still safe to see.
Kendahl: Yeah. The thing is, I think I know what you're talking about, or at least I i think I have a good idea of what you're, because, yeah, no.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah. Yeah. Don't say it though. Don't say it.
Kendahl: But, yeah, that's crazy, though.
Julian Contreras Jr: I give that one a six. The acting was better than I anticipated.
Kendahl: There was acting.
Julian Contreras Jr: The bad guy there was acting. there have The bad guy in it was on Power Rangers. I can't remember his name right now.
Kendahl: OK.
Julian Contreras Jr: But seeing him in a different role like that was pretty crazy. All right.
Kendahl: Hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: And then the next day, another one I just had to go see with my friends super right away. And I'm hoping you've heard about this one. It's only PG-13. It's the only, well, no, Super Mario is PG, but exit eight.
Kendahl: Oh, yeah, yeah, based off the video game.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yes, thank you.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: I was hoping you knew the backstory of it because I did not.
Kendahl: Yeah, it's a japaneseie is a...
Julian Contreras Jr: My buddy showed me the trailer and was like, we need to go see this.
Kendahl: Is it Japanese or South Korean? Right?
Julian Contreras Jr: I think I want to say Japanese, but that could be wrong.
Kendahl: Yeah, I want to say it's Japanese. Where the guy's like trying to find Exit 8, but then he like is he realizes things are repeating, and it's like... a
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, it's like a subway tunnel and he's getting off the train to go home. He's just gotten a phone call about something and he realizes that it says zero.
Kendahl: Uh-huh. Yeah.
Kendahl: Mm-hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: And he eventually reads the rules like the second time through.
Kendahl: Mm-hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: So I'll give you a rundown of this movie just so you can go see because I don't think the trailer is going to do it. Number one, it's going to be subtitled.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: All right, we're going to get that out of the way. Number two...
Julian Contreras Jr: I don't know. like It's hard to say. He goes through the subway and he needs to find the anomalies that are in this hallway.
Kendahl: Right. Right. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: If he sees any anomalies, he needs to turn directly around and go back the way he came.
Kendahl: Mm-mm.
Julian Contreras Jr: And then if he does that successfully, going either way, the poster will go up a level. So it starts at zero. If he gets it right, one, obviously.
Julian Contreras Jr: So you have to get to exit eight and then you can get through. Now, you're thinking about anomalies, and you're automatically going to think, oh, there's got to be creatures or something easy on everyone.
Julian Contreras Jr: No, it's not. Some of them are very, very subtle. And when he's first learning about it, there was one I noticed when he got it wrong. I'll just say at the top, the lights were just in a different pattern.
Kendahl: hmm. And isn't one of them like the signs has a different font or something like that?
Julian Contreras Jr: It was just...
Kendahl: It's like.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, yeah.
Kendahl: Yeah, I mean, there's yeah, I actually saw something about this when I went and saw Iron Lung, the Markiplier movie.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay. Yeah. It was very, very good.
Kendahl: So.
Julian Contreras Jr: i liked it a lot. It was only about an hour and a half. who Just watching this guy walk through tunnels.
Kendahl: OK.
Julian Contreras Jr: He meets a couple different characters that are very, very crucial to the story. But I give that one an eight as well. I liked it a lot.
Kendahl: Good.
Julian Contreras Jr: Fully recommend you watch it if you have it in your theater over that way.
Kendahl: I don't actually, I looked for it and they none of the theaters here had it.
Julian Contreras Jr: Or
Kendahl: It was pretty crazy.
Julian Contreras Jr: So, and then what I want to go to tonight is The Mummy is out.
Kendahl: So yeah, because that good. Yeah. Oh, okay. So wait, oh hold on. Yeah, the the one with a little girl, right? The reimagining of whatever.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yes. I thought it was going to be Tom Cruise action mummy movie again. And then I keep watching trailers and I'm like, I don't think that's what I'm about to see.
Kendahl: No. Yeah, it's pretty crazy.
Julian Contreras Jr: So, i mean, this is, it's, great cinema box office time right now because i have this one coming up next week we have the samara weaving jason siegel movie i think it's called over your dead body or yeah that one looks extremely fun and dark can't wait to see that one and we'll have a list of upcoming movies as well that are still uh ups yeah
Kendahl: Something like that. Yeah.
Kendahl: Mm hmm.
Kendahl: I mean, yeah, there's there's stuff coming up. I mean, yeah, because you've got as weird as it is, the one that I'm actually looking forward to is called the sheep detective.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay, I'm going to let you go see that one because I've seen that trailer a few times and I'm like, oh, Wolverine, what are you doing?
Kendahl: I think it looks funny. And then obviously we've got like the devil warrior product, too. I don't know about the new Michael movie.
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh, yes.
Kendahl: i don't I don't know about that.
Julian Contreras Jr: More along my lines of movie, Obsession, Mortal Kombat with Carl Urban.
Kendahl: Oh, Mortal Kombat 2. Oh,
Julian Contreras Jr: Yes. The new scary movie, Obsession. i don't know if that came through on microphone earlier.
Kendahl: oh sorry. i did I have not seen anything on that one, but I know of it.
Julian Contreras Jr: Another one with Adam Scott that's right up my alley. Hokum.
Kendahl: poum Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: That's another scary one.
Kendahl: yeah
Julian Contreras Jr: So there's a lot coming up and I'm excited to see all these movies and come and talk to you about them because I know you're going to bring me the sheep detective and I'm going to give you devil worship and blood and guts and gore.
Kendahl: Well, I mean, I went and saw a movie I think is a little more general interest. so i have to So I went and saw Project Hail Mary.
Kendahl: So we had we have we had talked about this in this in the show a little while back.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay, I missed this one. All
Kendahl: And I had read the book. And I will tell you, it's this is one of those, the movie did not disappoint. and it did not steer too far from the material.
Kendahl: It is pretty much on par.
Julian Contreras Jr: right.
Kendahl: I mean, now, here's the thing. This is this is basically so you have to remember Andy Weir is the guy that that wrote the book Project Hail Mary.
Kendahl: He's also the guy that wrote the book The Martian. Remember, they made that into a movie with Matt Damon.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yep.
Kendahl: So, you know, he's he's very good for source material.
Julian Contreras Jr: yep
Kendahl: And You know, the thing about this movie is it is grounded in reality as as hard as that is to say, because it's about a guy on a ship that gets thrown into a solar system millions of miles away from us. But The truth is, is that it's still pretty grounded. My wife, who hates sci fi, is actually excited because there's a director's cut that's supposedly out there somewhere that they're thinking about releasing, and she wants to see that.
Kendahl: Like if you he has to think about that, a sci fi movie that for for for my wife, to even like a sci fi movie in the first place is miraculous. But then for her to say, I want to see the director's cut says a lot about the source material.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: And I'll tell you, when I read this book, I got done and I was like, now what? Now what? Because there was so much. There was so much to the book.
Kendahl: And it was great. So then I was really worried about seeing the movie. But I'll tell you, this movie... is great. It's funny. it's It's creative. It's visually just absolutely stunning.
Kendahl: And I went and saw it in the in the really big theater screen that we've got with the Dolby Atmos sound and all that. It was great. Just absolutely wonderful. and Then to find out that there was so much practical effect built into this movie, it made it even that much better because you could see it. right It wasn't just a movie with a bunch of green screens and sci-fi CGI type stuff involved.
Kendahl: It really was a movie just built around the love of its materials. And so I highly recommend it. i'm in I honestly, I rarely do this. It is a 10. There's there I did.
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh, wow. Okay.
Kendahl: I did not have a single thing in that movie that I was like, that's why, like why there was nothing about it. It was just great. I will I will be happy to go see this movie again.
Kendahl: i will be happy to read this book again. They hands down. i think the only reason this this movie is not. I mean, it broke off at box office records for this time of year. it already beat the $500 million dollars mark.
Kendahl: But I think it it could have done a lot more If it wasn't at this time of year, because it's kind of like at a weird point where people are not thinking movies yet.
Kendahl: Right. And I think it was a good reason, though, because it it'd be really hard to compete some of the against some of the bigger box office stuff during the end of the summer, especially with, you know, things like some of the movies you and I have talked about coming out. Yeah.
Kendahl: But yeah, hands down, if you have a chance to go see it, I mean, it's still in theaters. Go see it. Go see it on like a cheap Tuesday day or cheap Monday, whatever they have around your area. Go see it. It's worth it.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: And then if it gets home, watch it. I think you'll like it.
Julian Contreras Jr: Perfect. All right. I think that's going to wrap it up for today. We've gone through a lot of stuff entertainment wise and we're back in your lives. That's Kendall.
Kendahl: Yeah, yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: This is Julian. We're here. Remember us. We're still here. Just took a little extra long spring break.
Kendahl: We're still, as I say, we took a little bit of a long break, but, you know, again, hey we just, we needed it.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, we'll be back very soon.
Kendahl: We needed it. That's all.
Julian Contreras Jr: I'm going to pop this on Kindle right now. Let's go ahead and do episode 79. Let's do some summer trailers.
Kendahl: Oh, yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Some of these movies that are coming out that we want to see.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: not Not too in the far in the distant, like three years from now.
Kendahl: Mm-hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: But I do, there's a couple I sent to you.
Kendahl: Yep.
Julian Contreras Jr: we won't say them right now.
Kendahl: yep
Julian Contreras Jr: That looks incredible. i I think they're all August.
Kendahl: yeah They are, yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: think there's three big ones in August I want to see.
Kendahl: Yeah. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: But let's get our list. Let's help these guys find something they want to watch. They want to spend their money on in the summertime. Stuff that we're also going to do.
Kendahl: Yeah. Hands down, I'm all for it
Julian Contreras Jr: But it is great to be back. I hope you guys enjoy our voices being back on your stereos.
Kendahl: Right, yeah.
Kendahl: Hopefully.
Julian Contreras Jr: Kendall, you got anything for Yes.
Kendahl: You know what? The only thing I can say to you is... go find someone to give a hug to. If you don't have anybody to give a hug to, don't don't go hug a random stranger.
Julian Contreras Jr: yes
Kendahl: But, you know, sometimes it's just good to have somebody in your life that you can find that's close. And so right now, if you are you're struggling, if you're having a hard time, or you're just not feeling very happy in your step, there's somebody in your life right now that wants you to find that moment with them. I don't care who it is. It could be your wife, it could be your husband, your girlfriend, your boyfriend, it could be your mom, your dad, but there's definitely somebody in your life right now that's looking for you to make that connection.
Kendahl: And, you know, I encourage you to find those people because they're in your life for a reason. And right now, I think everybody kind of needs that person. So go hug them.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay, well said. Until next time, do a barrel roll.
Kendahl: And don't forget, turn on something good.
