Introduction & Season Excitement

00:00:15
Speaker
What is up goal line listeners? We are getting closer and closer to live action, real deal football when the games count. I mean, we got preseason already, but you know, preseason barely scratches the edge. We're ready for some real football and we're going to bring all the latest news to you this week. First, let me introduce my buddy Jordan. What's going on, man? Man, we are, we are ever so close. We're 12 days away from college football kickoff.
00:00:40
Speaker
We're getting there, man. We're almost to the Promised Land, so yeah, it's an exciting time.
00:00:47
Speaker
We had our first scrimmage with the flag team, my 6U football team last week, and we won 42 to nothing, man. So we played the same team again. We scrimmaged them again tonight, and I think we scored four times, and they scored twice.

AP Top 25 & Playoff Debates

00:01:00
Speaker
So they did a little bit better, but I think that's just because we gave them a lot more to work with for adjustments and stuff. So we're looking forward to it. We got our first game next Wednesday, so going to be a lot of fun. That's really it for housekeeping, I think, man. You ready to get into some football talk? Yeah, let's do it.
00:01:23
Speaker
So this actually kind of worked out perfect. We wanted to talk a little bit about college ball today, so the AP top 25 was released this afternoon, so we'll just run through it real quick. No surprise, Georgia is ranked number one to start the season. I mean.
00:01:40
Speaker
It's Georgia, dude, like the, I mean, they're going to be great every year. Like there's just, I think that's one thing that definitely has not aged well from last season is Georgia being, uh, being left out of the playoff. I get it. It would have looked bad aesthetically than getting beat in the, you know, last game at a regular season, but it feels like if you go dang near three years without losing a game and then you lose to a really tough team in a conference championship with some questionable, uh, officiating calls that game also.
00:02:08
Speaker
I feel like we probably should have given them a chance to defend their championship. Yeah, it definitely did not age well. But I mean, it is what it is. You don't want to leave that as the last image that the voters have in their minds. And I still think Florida State should have got

Impact of Playoff Expansion

00:02:26
Speaker
left out. But I get why they put them in, just because you don't want that to be the last four-team playoff where you're leaving out a team that went undefeated in a major conference. So I still get it.
00:02:37
Speaker
I think it sucked because for the most part, man, the first, you know, it ended up being just about 10. Yeah, it was 10 years, man. The first nine years of the college football playoff really worked out fine, dude. Like there was some, you know, some minor, some minor squabbles a couple of years, about that 15 left out. But for the most part, it was a nice clean four teams going in, dude. Last year was really the
00:02:58
Speaker
the time we had Armageddon where you had Florida state and Georgia both had just stone cold cases to get in the playoff. But you know, it's not like any of the four teams that they selected were slashes. They were just, it's a good thing that they could lean on. You know, it's the last year, the 14 playoff and this

Team Predictions & SEC Focus

00:03:12
Speaker
will never happen again. Cause end of the day, it's never going to be life or death who number 13 is that doesn't get to go to the playoffs nowadays. Yeah.
00:03:18
Speaker
I mean it's definitely gonna help a lot this year like it's gonna be interesting when it comes out of the end of the season because being you talked about this like a loss doesn't kill you anymore like yeah 14 playoff a loss basically just eliminates you at that point and especially if it's a bad loss so it's gonna be interesting
00:03:36
Speaker
And it's just like I said, man, there's, it's always going to be heartache that first team out, but it's not a situation now where like, you're going to say like, Hey, like without a shadow of a doubt, like that, whoever that first team out is, they should have had a chance to play for the national championship. We're not going to see that again. It's just going to be, you know, some hurt feelings, something to argue about for a couple of days. Odds are the team that finishes 13 is going to have two or three losses. So they would have had every chance to make it.
00:04:01
Speaker
All right, we'll just keep going. Ohio State is two. Oregon three. Texas is four. Texas is always so overrated coming into the season, man. I think they're going to be good, but number four is insane.
00:04:15
Speaker
Yeah. Uh, Alabama's five old miss six Notre Dame. Another team that's always overrated seven. Uh, Penn state is eight. Michigan is nine dude, big drop for Michigan, man. I think that's kind of like a shitty move by college football. Like, dude, they should at least be top five to start the season. Whether or not they're actually that good is to be determined, but dude, a defending national champion should never start that low. Like I, I think that's kind of disrespectful, honestly.
00:04:44
Speaker
There's a lot of Michigan hate out there, man. A lot of people still feel some type of way about them even being allowed to play for the national championship last year. I thought that that whole thing was a little bit overblown just from the outside looking in. I didn't think it was... I wasn't clutching my pearls over it. I thought it was just whatever. The stuff they were doing, I assume every team is doing that to some extent. They just happen to get caught. Yeah, everybody's cheating. They're just not getting caught.
00:05:09
Speaker
Florida State is 10, Missouri 11, Utah 12, LSU 13, Clemson 14, Tennessee 15, Oklahoma 16, Oklahoma State 17, Kansas State 18, Miami 19, A&M 20, Arizona 21, Kansas 22, USC 23, NC State 24, and Iowa rounds it out at 25.
00:05:36
Speaker
A lot of people here locally are up in arms about Tennessee being 15. They feel like they're just being super underrated, which I get it. Tennessee's definitely had a really good last couple of seasons, but I think people are just getting... They're still just drunk off the hype of that win against Alabama in 2022, man. Look at

Texas & Oklahoma in SEC

00:05:54
Speaker
the Vols historically, even in the glory years with Peyton Manning and T. Martin.
00:05:58
Speaker
Like, yeah, they had the year where they climbed up and won the national championship, but they were always kind of like the best of the tier right under the true powerhouses. You know what I mean? That's kind of where they topped out at. I never put them up on the same level as like, you know, the Nebraska, the Florida, the Florida states of the day. Yeah.
00:06:15
Speaker
It just hurt them so bad that like their best season ended with them just getting trounced by Nebraska in the national championship game. I mean, definitely did not help the cause for them in the nineties, but yeah, dude, I think 15 is about right for them. Honestly, I think the way their schedule lines up and everything. I mean, they're going to get a chance against old miss right out of the gate. Cause I'm pretty sure they play on like week two or three, right? Yeah, it's week two.
00:06:41
Speaker
Yeah. Their quarterback's hyped up too. Supposedly he's going to be the best new starter in college football this season. We'll see if he lives up to the hype. Yeah, I mean, they could definitely be dangerous because Saban's gone. Georgia's still Georgia, but I do think the SEC is going to be pretty wide open. I mean, obviously, I think Georgia's going to be dang near a lock to get a playoff spot, but you're definitely going to have multiple teams coming out of the SEC. So everything's there for them as long as they do what they're supposed to do.
00:07:05
Speaker
You know what? The expectations are very, very high here in the state of Tennessee this year. Dude, the craziest thing is, and I was looking at this before we went on air, top 10 teams, eight of them are either from the Big 10 or the SEC. They both got four in the top 10.
00:07:20
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, they're just consolidating, dude. As they're getting these teams... One, I mean, they're literally just going out and getting better teams, but it seems like the teams are getting... The teams within those conferences are just getting better and better and just separating from the pack, man. It feels like the... We've definitely seen the rich getting richer since the NIL kind of became a thing in college football. That's the other thing about... We were talking about Texas being overrated.
00:07:45
Speaker
Dude, I just do not buy them in an SEC schedule. I just, I think they're going to struggle right out of the gate. Yeah. They're going to be a good team, but I don't see them making it through their own skate demand. Cause it's just, there's no weeks off, dude. Even somebody like, you know, Mississippi state, they're going to, they're going to hit you in the fricking mouth and it's going to be a tough, you know, a tough win. There's just, there's no easy weeks. I mean, even Vanderbilt can be scrappy sometimes, man. Yeah. Like Texas plays at Michigan week two.
00:08:12
Speaker
Like, I mean, and then, I mean, they play some lesser teams out of the gate. They get Colorado state, then at Michigan, Texas, San Antonio, and Louisiana Monroe. Then they start off their SEC schedule with Mississippi state. Then they play Oklahoma and the red river rivalry. Then they got Georgia, then Vanderbilt, Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky, and A&M to close it. Like,
00:08:37
Speaker
I mean, it's not the hardest schedule in the world. I feel like that's a three-loss season, dude. I feel like they could play really, really well and still come out of there with three losses, man, just with that level of opposition. Dude, you're going to lose one game that CC shouldn't, too. I mean, one of those games is going to trip you up. And we're assuming that Quinn Urge is going to stay healthy. He's never shown himself to be just a straight-up Iron Man and quarterback.
00:09:04
Speaker
Dude, between Texas and Oklahoma, they both got some tough roads ahead of them. I mean, dude, I'm looking at Oklahoma schedule right now. Good Lord. They got Temple and Houston out of the gate,

Colorado's Season Outlook

00:09:16
Speaker
which they should win both of those. Then they got Tulane and everything I keep reading about Tulane is
00:09:22
Speaker
be prepared to watch this team at the end of the season because they're going to be really good. Then they got Tennessee at Auburn, then Texas, South Carolina, Ole Miss, then they get Maine for some reason in November. And then they got Missouri, Alabama, and LSU to close it out.
00:09:39
Speaker
That's a lot. I mean, these teams, they asked for this. They could have stayed in the Big 12 and been beating up on Dion and Shador in Colorado, man. But they want to get over in the SEC. Yeah. They wanted this smoke. Let's just touch on one more thing, College, since you brought up Colorado. Have you been reading any of this stuff about Colorado's locker room and how Dion sounds like it's a bad vibe, man? Yeah. And now Dion's coming out and attacking news media and stuff. There's some local reporters that he refuses to talk to. It just did.
00:10:09
Speaker
To do that shit you better win man because you get the media against you dude They are gonna be on his ass if they start off rough to me it feels like I feel like he knows that There are they're a lot closer to that team that lost, you know eight of the last nine and
00:10:24
Speaker
than they are to that team that started off 3-0 and it just captivated the nation. I think he's trying to build a wall between him and the media so he can keep having to answer some of these tough questions after the games, because, dude, it's... Colorado's poured a lot of resources into them. Yeah, they were not in a good spot when he took over, but I think they gave him the keys to the kingdom, and the expectation was that it was going to be a pretty quick turnaround. So, I don't know, man, if they don't deliver this year, I think it's going to get uncomfortable quick in Colorado.
00:10:54
Speaker
The biggest thing for me is, is it just seems like every time he opens his mouth, he's insulting one of his players, obviously, he's never going to insult his two kids. But I don't know, man, just it always seems like he's got something bad to say about a guy that left or
00:11:10
Speaker
like oh man we didn't really want him there like dylan edwards left to go to kansas state and he's like uh we're better off without him basically he was awesome last season that dude was unreal and for him to leave because that dude was gonna start this year there's no doubt in my mind that dude was there starting running back for him to leave that i mean to me like that has to show you something is going on there like
00:11:33
Speaker
I just, I don't know, man. And like you said him not talking to local media members, dude, he's not talking to him because that shit's getting out and they're reporting it. Like, yeah, I mean, it'd be one thing if it was one guy that was saying this, like, Hey man, this is a toxic locker room there. These kids are fighting in a locker room.
00:11:51
Speaker
But dude, it's like 20 news sources are picking this up. And granted, I do know a lot of people want Dion to fail in Colorado. Like I know that's the thing. So maybe not all of it's true. But I mean, dude, some of it's got to be true. There's no way that all these people would just pick this up and run with it if it was if there wasn't some validity to it.
00:12:10
Speaker
Yeah. I don't know, man. I, you know, also it's both the sun's last season's air too, dude. I think it's, I think it's a very shaky bet, man, to say that Dion is going to be coaching, uh, Colorado opening day.
00:12:23
Speaker
2025, man. I mean, what do you think, dude? From like 100% it's a lock or 0% he's gone, dude. Like what kind of, what percentage you put in the Dion's there? Either on his own free will or if Colorado gets sick of it after two years and pulls the plug on this experiment, man. What's your confidence factor on Dion coaching the Buffaloes week one 2025?
00:12:45
Speaker
Well, Colorado is not going to pull the plug on it because they're still getting all types of coverage and they're selling merch and they're selling out season tickets, which they were never doing before this.

Preseason Injuries & Rookie Performance

00:12:55
Speaker
So they're relevant in a way they haven't been since the early 90s. I was going to ask you this because since we started this, I was going to ask you to predict their record through five games. I'm going to read you off their first five games. Okay. So they open up on Thursday night with, uh, division one, double a powerhouse, North Dakota state, dude.
00:13:15
Speaker
Fuck it, man. North Dakota State's gonna beat him. I seriously think they lose that game too, dude. That's a horrible game for them to schedule, man. Cause dude, North, one, North Dakota State, there's so much head and shoulders above almost all their competition that they do. They can devote.
00:13:30
Speaker
you know, 60% of their off season time to getting ready for this one game. It's the same thing you used to see Boise state do, you know, 15 years ago, they would knock off these powerhouses cause they were so leaps and bounds ahead of their conference that they could basically put all their eggs into the basket and get prepared for this one game. Like it's the fricking Superbowl, you know? So I, I mean, yeah, Colorado probably wins dude, but I would be very, I would be on my freaking, you know, on pins and needles, my Colorado getting ready for that game. And then week two, they come to Nebraska. It's a night game.
00:14:00
Speaker
They're going to win that one. They are not going to win that game. Dude, I just looked at the line today just because I was curious what the line was going to be for that game. Guess what the line is for that game. No, just get them. I say, I say Nebraska minus six. Seven. I was kind of, I was surprised by that, honestly. People were off Colorado. I think they're in for a bad year, dude. I mean, yeah, if they,
00:14:24
Speaker
That'd be a good test, dude, because they beat up on Nebraska pretty good last season, right? Nebraska just started turning the ball over. Nebraska actually looked good right out of the gate, and then their quarterback just started fumbling the ball everywhere. I think that's going to be the biggest thing for Nebraska this year, is having a quarterback that can actually run the offense, because that was their biggest problem last year. So, Purdy's gone?
00:14:48
Speaker
Yeah. Uh, so they have Riola starting this year. Uh, then they go to Colorado state to beat them last year down there, or they won last year at the last second double overtime. Yeah. Uh, then they got Baylor and then they got at central Florida before their bye week. Dude. I think there's a good chance they will only win one game in the first four games.
00:15:11
Speaker
our first five. I'm thinking, I'm thinking two and three, dude. I'll say they're, they're two and three out of those five. And then man, they got, then they got Kansas state coming off their by which Kansas state's going to be fucking good this year. Then they got to go at Arizona loss. They got Cincinnati coming into Boulder. We'll say they win that one. Then they got to go to Texas tech.
00:15:34
Speaker
Loss. Then they get Utah at home. Loss. They're going to get fucking mopped by Utah. Then they got to go to Kansas, who is apparently going to be good this year. Loss. And then they end it with Oklahoma State. So yeah, they're staring down the barrel of another four-win season. Dude, it's going to get ugly. I mean, like I said, I don't think they'll fire him unless something comes out that's just so damning against him that he can't overcome it. I doubt they fire him. But yeah, it's not good.
00:16:06
Speaker
All right, let's move on from college football. Let's talk about something that just happens every year and we, we got to touch on it though. There's a lot of injuries that came out of the first week of preseason. So today, Jamir Gibbs went down with a hamstring injury at practice. That's not good. Um, yeah, those are the kinds of things that can linger halfway through the season. JJ McCarthy's got a knee issue.
00:16:32
Speaker
Um, Malik neighbors has an ankle. Um, chief's receiver, Marquis Brown has like a shoulder joint is messed up and it sounds like he's going to be out for awhile. Rondale more towards ACL. Uh, Josh downs hurt his ankle and Christian McCaffrey. The calf has flared up again.
00:16:51
Speaker
Oh boy. That's not good. That's two years in a row. On the day, on the day that Madden launches. Well, that happened over the weekend, but, um, did you watch, I'm sure you didn't like sit down and watch the whole game, but did you see any of the highlights of much preseason this weekend?
00:17:08
Speaker
Not really, man. I caught a little bit of the Steelers, just a little bit here and there, man. I didn't make a point to get too caught up on it, just because the ones were playing so sparingly. I saw the couple flash plays for the Bears, but yeah, that was... I didn't catch a lot of them. Dude, for the most part, because I watched a lot of the highlights, for the most part, all the rookie quarterbacks performed pretty well this weekend.
00:17:33
Speaker
Yeah. Caleb Williams had some nice throws. He did. Bo Nix looked decent as well. Panic started for the Falcons and looked halfway decent. Dude, J.J. McCarthy bowled out. He threw a bad interception, but then he absolutely bowled out after that. He threw two touchdowns after the pick. He looked good, man. He was throwing some dots too. I was shocked.
00:17:56
Speaker
Hey, Joe Milton looked good for New England, dude. Dude, I seriously think he might start. I'm not even joking. You're so serious groundswell, dude. I mean, honestly, the Patriots got some soul searching to do. If you follow, you know, go back and just follow, you know, Joe Milton's career at Michigan, then at Tennessee, he's got a history, dude, of looking really, really good and just mesmerizing you with the eyeball test. And it looks great for a game, you know, a game here, a game there.
00:18:27
Speaker
dude has just been wildly inconsistent throughout his career man I mean you see why he keeps getting chances because he's got I mean he may have the strongest arm in the NFL right now he's got beyond a cannon for an arm but he'll always end up breaking your heart so I don't know I would caution you know any Patriots fans listening I would I'd you know I'd maybe hold off on you know going out and getting the expensive you know game authentic jersey just yet because
00:18:50
Speaker
I could see a scenario where they do end up starting him and it lasts, you know, maybe four or five weeks for like, yeah, we've seen enough. And I, you wonder what that does to, you know, kind of Drake mace confidence and stuff that, I mean, it shouldn't matter with people at this level, but it does. Quarterbacks are weird. Um, I do want to get your thoughts on something. What are your thoughts on teams with like veteran quarterbacks starting their starters in week one of preseason?
00:19:18
Speaker
I mean to me it's football dude. I feel like if the preseason's there you might as well play your guys man. I say just play them or get rid of the preseason altogether dude. I know they're kind of like contractually obligated to have preseason games and it matters a lot for these.
00:19:34
Speaker
I don't know what the point of playing them like five plays is. To me, if you're going to play them, you might as well let them get three or four series in and go, or just bench them and just let your scrubs play, dude. So I don't know. I'm not opposed to it, though, if teams want to let their guys play a little bit. It's interesting, because the guys that did play, Jordan Love played one series, played really well, led a touchdown drive. Burrow played one series, led a touchdown drive. Mahomes played.
00:20:01
Speaker
I'm sorry, man. If the Chiefs are willing to risk Patrick Mahomes, there should be no team that's not willing to risk their quarterback for at least a quarter of preseason. If they're willing to risk him, then everybody should be playing starters at least a little bit in every preseason game. Also, if you only play your starters one quarter in the entire preseason, it's almost a guarantee you're looking rusty, game one. It happens every fucking year. Yeah.
00:20:31
Speaker
back in the day, I mean, 20 years ago, first preseason game, you'd see starters play a whole quarter, right? And then they play, you know, the first half, the second preseason game, then that third preseason game, they play into the third quarter. And over time, teams have just gotten so cautious that yeah, you'd see some of the best of the best that they won't even suit up in the preseason. And I think we've, you know,
00:20:51
Speaker
But if they were playing them a little bit too much back in the day, I think we'd definitely overcorrect

Rams & Steelers: Season Prospects

00:20:56
Speaker
it, man. Because you got to get some game reps in, dude. You don't want the first time you're getting hit to be week one, man. It's just football. Football's a sport where you really do need to shake the rust off a little bit. One hype train that's not going to slow down after this weekend. Texans played their starters one drive and immediately went down the field and scored a touchdown on the Steelers. So that hype train ain't getting stopped anytime soon. They're going to be good, man.
00:21:20
Speaker
I watched a little bit of that first drive. They're going to be good. Yeah, I think they were, they had never run away with the AFC South. It's possible. All right. That's it for news. Really. I didn't, I didn't really have anything else. It was just basically injuries and I wanted to wrap up week one of preseason, but yeah, let's go under a reviews.
00:21:38
Speaker
Real quick, we had Madden came out today. I started downloading it right before we left to go to football practice. I played one series. The game looks incredible, and the play is pretty solid. Again, I only played three plays on offense, but I'm really excited to dive into it so we can go with this pod. So we'll give you guys a detailed review on Madden 25 next week. Let's get into our previews for next season.
00:22:17
Speaker
All right, so we got three teams for tonight. We got the Rams, the Cowboys, the Steelers. Jordan, who do you wanna start with? Well, let's start with the Rams.
00:22:29
Speaker
All right, so the Rams, really, really good season last year. Went 10-7, a little bit of a bounce back. Six and four in one score game, so that kind of washes out. I feel like teams with really top level head coaches like the Rams, I feel like they're gonna tend to do better year over year in the one score game. So that's, you know, I wouldn't expect them to, you know, drop two extra one score games this year. I think they'll continue to be successful in those close ones. They had the seventh offense, in seventh ranked offense in the league last year with this, you know,
00:22:58
Speaker
Puka Nakua coming out of nowhere to be basically, you know, match Cooper cups production from that Superbowl year. Uh, but scary thing is that they had the 22nd ranked defense and they just lost arguably the greatest defensive lineman of all time with Aaron Donald retiring, uh, ended up 11th overall in point differential. And then the playoffs, they lost a really, really highly entertaining playoff game to the lions in Detroit.
00:23:21
Speaker
It was a great year all the way around. I think the big question for them as it's going to be every year going forward until he hangs it up, what is the health of Matthew Stafford going to look like this season? They really have to protect him at all costs because they have no other plan right now.
00:23:38
Speaker
But yeah, you're right. It all depends on him and his arm and his legs, like just everything. I mean, that's usually what he hurts is one of his knees or his shoulder. So I still think they're going to be good, dude. Like I can't count how to make they team and he's just such a good coach. Like he gets the most out of every player on that team. And
00:23:59
Speaker
I mean, you just said it like Puka, who the hell knew Puka was before last year and like you met him into a household name. So I don't know, man. They're an interesting team. If cup comes back, cause you could definitely tell he was not the same at the end of last year after the injury. I feel like if he comes back and he's a hundred percent,
00:24:20
Speaker
I mean, I feel like they can do some damage with those two at receiver. But again, like you just said, their defense was already bad and it's going to get worse without Aaron Donald. So I don't know, man.
00:24:31
Speaker
Yeah, to me, the big issue with the 2024 Rams is you're going to be putting a lot of stress on an offense that really was probably already overachieving last year. You know, Matthew Stafford's a year older and he gets still ball, right? Like he was on the, he was on the washed, watched list last year, man, after that, you know, after how they looked in.
00:24:50
Speaker
in 2022 he might end up being like a Matt Schaub type that just you know all of a sudden one day it was all just gone and they couldn't play anymore because that elbow but I thought Stafford looked great man still played with a lot of moxie but dude I just don't think that there's enough bullets in the chamber for them
00:25:05
Speaker
to be able to overcome what that defense is going to look like this year. Now, again, like you said, dude, Sean McBake totally proved us wrong. Another thing though, they lost their defensive coordinator. He's head coach for the Falcons now. I don't know, man. I see the Rams dropping down a couple of notches this season.
00:25:24
Speaker
It's hard for me to, like I said, completely count them out with McVeigh as their coach. I could see them having a similar year to last year, maybe nine and eight. I mean, dude, I'm never going to say the Rams are just going to absolutely flop as long as McVeigh and Stafford are still there.
00:25:39
Speaker
Now I think they're still tough week in week out, but I think I'm thinking something like seven and 10 and I don't think they're going to be a serious contender for the playoffs. I'm going to go eight and nine. Actually, I think they, they lose two more games than they did last year. I still think that like you said, they're competitive, but I just, I just do not understand how that defense is going to function without their key cog. Like losing him is, I mean, that's just, that's like a devastating thing for a franchise.
00:26:05
Speaker
Yeah. And to be clear, I don't think they're going to be like an easy win for anybody. I still think they're going to be a really tough team. I just don't see them being quite as successful. I mean, 2022, the year when Stafford was hurt, they were still a tough team that season also. I forget what their record was, but they had a losing season, but they were still playing really, really good football, even though they were decimated with injuries and lost a ton of people in free agency that year.
00:26:29
Speaker
All right, so we're both out on the Rams making the playoffs this season. Let's go over to the AFC. We'll go to the Steelers. These guys were so shocking almost. I think it was beyond surprising. They were shocking. 10 and seven last year, nine and two in one score games, man. Is that just pure luck or is that Mike Tomlin being one of the best coaches in the NFL?
00:26:50
Speaker
I mean, Mike Tomlin is definitely one of the best coaches in the NFL. I don't think that's debatable at this point. The guy's never had a losing season, even with, I mean, they lost Roethlisberger and they have not had a quarterback since him. So, I mean, the guy can, can clearly coach no matter who's on the team.
00:27:09
Speaker
That's a lot of luck though, dude. Nine and two in one score games is absolutely insane. And I mean, like dude, I mean, four of those go the opposite way. And you're, you're talking a completely different season. Like it's a polar opposite season. And I mean, that's not something that's unheard of for you to lose for one score, four extra one score games. So I don't know, man, I'm not getting high vibes off this team just based on their quarterback situation.
00:27:36
Speaker
It's no secret that I have never been a fields believer and what I saw the other day gave me no reason to come off that. Everything that I said about him is still holding true. He holds the ball too long and he cannot read a defense, which he still cannot. He also fumbles a lot too, dude. You know me, I love Justin Fields, but dude, the dude just, he throws picks and he fumbles, dude. Like, either one of those by themselves is bad. He does both.
00:28:03
Speaker
I just, I just don't think that this guy is equipped to handle the speed at the NFL level and he keeps proving it and yet people just keep thinking it's somebody else's fault. No, dude, it's, it's just who he is. I mean, it's some guys have it and some guys don't for the NFL. And unfortunately I starting to really lean hard into the, he does not have it.
00:28:25
Speaker
Yeah. Agreed, man. But I mean, there's still a chance. We're still thinking Russell Wilson ends up starting more games for this team though, right? Yeah. But does that really give you the warm and fuzzies?
00:28:37
Speaker
I mean, it doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies. It gives me like the safe and boring now that at least they just won't self destruct because the thing is like Dude, right by some metrics. Can you pick it is the least productive starting quarterback in NFL history as far as? Putting you know moving the ball putting points on the board. He wasn't he didn't have like the you know He wasn't one of those guys that was going out and just tossing five or six interceptions So it didn't it didn't like scream at you that you know, this guy is horrible But he just kind of did nothing, you know, I mean like it just nothing happened when he was in a quarterback
00:29:08
Speaker
So, I mean, if Russell Wilson just gives them bear, like, you know, flat league average play, I think it could really be a boost because the defense was six last year, man, going through the metrics. Defense was six. Offense was somehow 15th overall, which seems shocking to me, but they were 21st in point differential. So yeah, I mean, that, that goes in with all the one score games they won. This was not a great team last year. It didn't make the playoffs and put up a decent effort against the bills.
00:29:32
Speaker
But, uh, you know, yeah, Tim, I just, I'm very, very sketchy on this team. And their thing is their division is brutal. I just, I do not see how they keep Tom one streak of a winning season alive with this team. I, I'm just not seeing it like, yeah, you're right. Like pick it and true Biscuit where their quarterbacks last year and they're two of the worst quarterbacks ever. But Hey, Hey, let's not, let's not forget about Mason Rudolph, dude, the legend.
00:30:01
Speaker
I know, but dude, I'm just, I just, I cannot fucking see this team in that division. If everyone's healthy, like, dude, that's it. Honestly, they could easily go. Oh, and six in their division. Like, and it wouldn't surprise me, but I don't think they're going to, but I don't know, man. I just said, do you think Tom on streak is eight and nine or worse? Yeah, I think they're gonna, I think this is their first losing season, dude.
00:30:26
Speaker
Everything we said about Russell Wilson about last season is he was not bad. He was actually performing really well.
00:30:33
Speaker
I just don't see him doing it again though, man. I don't know, man. He's a year older and clearly he's taken a step back. I mean, even watching him last year when he played well, it's clear he has taken a step back. I just... And one thing about Sean Payton, as much as I hate the guy I did, I trust his judgment on offensive football. And if he, I mean, you could tell he basically hated Russell Wilson. So there had to be a lot of stuff behind the scenes that he just did not like about the way that guy played quarterback.
00:31:01
Speaker
I tend to be with you, man. Who do you think ends up starting more games, man? Fields or Russell Wilson?
00:31:09
Speaker
I think if the Steelers want to have a chance to win games, I think I would lean starting Russ more just because I just don't trust fields in the big moments, man. He just, he's always proven to come up short in those moments. And I just don't think it changes there, dude. I don't know, man. I seriously, I think fields start some games. I just, I don't think this is going to be a good team. I'm actually, I think they actually go like seven and 10.
00:31:35
Speaker
Yeah, I'm thinking six or 11, seven and 10. I'll mean seven and 10 just out of respect for Tom.

Dallas Cowboys & Olympic Football

00:31:41
Speaker
All right, so we're both on the Rams and Steelers, two teams that made the playoffs last year missing. We'll see if one of those comes back to haunt us. Last we got Dallas Cowboys, man. Now this team really dominated in the regular season with 12 and five, with really, really strong points. I mean, they got their ass tore off the frame by the Niners early in the season, but other than that, like these guys were
00:32:02
Speaker
Pretty, they were some heavy hitters, man. Like they were a really, really tough team. Ninth on offense, fifth in defense. They were second to the Ravens in point differential. So as far as, you know, tail as old as time for the Cowboys over the last 10, 15 years, dude. Regular season, they were money.
00:32:17
Speaker
home playoff game against Jordan Love and the Packers and they got absolutely steamrolled man in a game that I mean I still think Michael Karthys lucky that he's a got his job after that one because it looked like it to me that looked like that was a game that was on coaching they were just not prepared you know it seemed like they were not prepared emotionally and even scheme wise man it seemed like that the Packers it was almost like they were in the huddle on offense the way they were picking off that Prescott and
00:32:41
Speaker
It was just a very, very ugly loss. It was a kind of kind of loss that makes people lose their jobs. Bro, how did they bounce back from that? Dude, talk about a team that had everything in front of them going into the playoffs last year. They ended up with the two seed. I seriously thought this was the year they were going to break through and at least win one playoff game to get absolutely boat raced by the Packers was just man.
00:33:11
Speaker
And they got, I'm sorry. This team got worse in the off season. Like there's no way he can convince me that this team is better than they were last year. Jerry Jones is Tony Pollard, Michael Gallup. That's two, that's two good playmakers. Not to mention the shit Jerry Jones has said about CD land. Like your best player isn't a holdout right now. And Jerry Jones has said some off the wall shit about CD. It's like,
00:33:36
Speaker
I don't even know what to think about this team. Yeah, they're still going to be good, but they replaced Tony Pollard with bringing back the skeleton of Ezekiel Elliott. He played well last year. I'm not going to say he didn't, and he'll play well behind this offensive line, but that was what you decided to do this offseason.
00:33:57
Speaker
I mean, there was talk of them getting Derek Henry, all this stuff, them drafting a running back. They did none of this. I'm sorry, man. Until Jerry Jones is not in charge of this team, I have no faith that this team is going to move forward. Like, it would not surprise me if they don't end up signing CD and he leaves. And then for whatever reason, they don't sign Dak and he leaves because somebody's going to pay Dak. Like there's so many bad quarterbacks in the NFL right now that are starting.
00:34:25
Speaker
Um, someone's going to pay him there. There's no question about that. And I don't know, man, the, the owner making comments about your best player is not good. And just the comments he was making, it's just basically said, there's no urgency to get this deal done. And it's like, dude, that dude is not going to play unless he gets a deal. I just, I don't know, man, their defense is still going to be really good, but they're in a weak division too, man. I mean, the Eagles are obviously going to bounce back in a big way, but
00:34:55
Speaker
I'm really not the giants and the, the commanders that should be four wins right there. I think, I think there's still,
00:35:05
Speaker
I think they're still right there, man, to probably get 10 wins. I think they're still a playoff team despite all this, but dude, I, if you had made me put money on it, man, I'd say there are another one and done in the playoffs, man. That's kind of what I see from them. I see another one and done season. Yeah. I just, I don't know how they would have a more successful season this year than they did last year. It just seemed like everything fell for them right last year. Like,
00:35:31
Speaker
I mean, when they got the two seed, I could have swore to you that this team was going to make a run. Like I, it just seemed like this was a different team. Um, it seemed like they were going to get another showdown with the Niners. You know, the Niners knocked them out of the playoffs the last two years. It felt like we were going to get one more, you know, the Cowboys and 49ers for the third time.
00:35:48
Speaker
Yeah, they didn't show up for it. They did. So Dan Quinn did a really good job with this defense the last couple of years and they did lose him. He's the coach of the commanders now, but they did get Mike Zimmer to replace him, who is a really good. He was a good defensive coordinator for the bangles.
00:36:04
Speaker
not the greatest head coach for the Vikings, but he, he knows how to get the job done. But again, dude, why the fuck would you bring McCarthy back? Like I know the answer to it. It's because he's a yes man for Jerry Jones. Like I, I know the answer, but I just, and not to mention they let Kellan Moore leave, which I felt like their offense had like evolved so much.
00:36:25
Speaker
I just do not understand what this team is doing. This is one of the most baffling things I've ever seen. They have so much talent. Like you go up and down their 53 man roster from last year and you could argue it was the most talented roster in football and they go one and done and he brings them back. I just, I don't get it, man. Yeah, it's, uh,
00:36:47
Speaker
So what do you see for them, Dave, for this year? How do you see the 2024 Cowboys finishing up? This is all assuming CD Lamb plays, by the way. If CD Lamb doesn't play, this team is fucked. But assuming CD Lamb does get a deal and he does play,
00:37:04
Speaker
I think they're right in the 10 or 11 window. I mean, like you said, the NFC East outside of them, the Eagles is not the greatest. There's some decent teams in the rest of the NFC, but I don't think it's enough to make me not think that they're going to win games against NFC teams. So yeah, I'll go about the same 10 or 11 wins.
00:37:22
Speaker
All right, so we both see the Cowboys getting back to the playoffs and the but but you know, not nearly as strong as last year and the Rams and the Steelers missing. Do you got a little bit of listener mail for this week, man? It's the first questions from our buddy Philip done it over in the UK. It says why isn't American football played at the Olympics? Is it mainly that no one else cares about it?
00:37:40
Speaker
No, it's because we would beat the living piss out of all you guys. By the way, you're going to get to see a little bit of a preview of it at the 28 Olympics because they're doing flag football. Wait, wait till they know yet if NFL players are going to be if one, if they're going to be allowed to, if the NFL teams are going to let their guys go play. Oh, dude.
00:37:59
Speaker
the NFL loves the advertisers, even if they don't, dude, even if they play all college players, they're still murdering everybody from other countries. Like, yeah, I mean, seriously, put the number one college quarterback with the top three receivers, best of luck to whoever else is on these teams on
00:38:16
Speaker
I seriously don't understand why they're doing this. I mean, flag football is the fairest way to do this because that's about the only chance that other countries have. Because I'm sorry, if this was normal football. But in the 50 threes, we're not going to keep them. Best of luck to you. Who do you got? Let's say anybody's available, dude. There's no restrictions. Who you got starting at quarterback in the 2028 Olympics? Oh, Patrick Moms, 100%.
00:38:41
Speaker
Did I played a lot of adult rec league flag football and stuff, man? I'll tell you, dude, there's always, one team's always got an old timer out there just putting dots.
00:38:50
Speaker
on the field, man. Sling that thing. I say bring Brady out, man. What a way to just cap off his football journey. Let Brady come out and be the first quarterback in the 2020 Olympics. I still say we win gold. I'm not going to lie to you. I would kill to see Josh Allen with like Justin Jefferson, Tyreke and CD or Chase, whoever had just thrown deep bombs to him the whole game. Like there's no way anybody's covering those receivers. I just, it's going to be embarrassing no matter how you slice it.
00:39:18
Speaker
I'd go with probably one of those guys like you got to go. And that's the thing. So I'm guessing it's probably going to come down to like, if they do let NFL players play, it's going to come down to like team decisions, I would guess. But again, though, like, dude, can you imagine being the franchise that tells your star player, hey, you're not playing for a gold medal like
00:39:38
Speaker
Yeah. It's the first time our sports ever been in the Olympics and we're not going to let you go. That's going to be a bad PR decision, but I'd be surprised if they let NFL players play, dude. They will absolutely murder everybody. College would make it a little bit more fair, I think. I think we'd still crush. I don't think it's going to matter. You may be able to take our best high school, dude, and be really right.

Philadelphia Eagles' Internal Issues

00:40:00
Speaker
Yeah. So eat that, Phil.
00:40:03
Speaker
All right, and then from James Modley, he wants to know with all, you know, we were actually just talking about the Eagles hyping them up with all the, do we think the drama backstage in Philly right now is going to have any carryover on the season? For those that didn't see it, a report came out that last year in preparation for the playoffs, Jalen Hurts was reaching out to members of the Giants coaching staff to get advice. I wasn't even talking to any coaches.
00:40:27
Speaker
on the Eagle staff, man. Like, is this is this a preseason story? Much to do about nothing? Or do you think this is cause for concern? No, dude, I'm seriously not convinced that Matt Patricia was not a double agent when he was hired as the Eagles coach. Like, how many people have to hire this dude before they realize he's fucking terrible at his job? He has no idea what he's doing. Like,
00:40:51
Speaker
I think he's got dirt on like half the league, man. That's the only, that's the only thing I can think of. Well, he keeps getting, they didn't bring him back. Thank God. So, I mean, dude, there could be something to that. I mean, there's some immaturity in that locker room. Like AJ Brown has proven he's a bit immature. I mean, I don't know. Yeah. He's a, he's a front runner, man. When things are good, he's great, but he's not the best guy to have around when you're facing adversity.
00:41:14
Speaker
When you're on a losing streak, the way they were after the way they started, they kind of knew it was Jason Kelsey's last year. It's just, I think just everything happened at the worst time for them and it just boiled over and that was the ending they got. But dude, I just don't see how this team is bad.
00:41:31
Speaker
Like we're looking one through 53 at this team. Like, I mean, this should be one of the best teams in the NFL. Like I just, I don't see how it's not. I mean, they added sake one to an offense that was already disgusting as is like, dude, you're telling me sake ones, not a huge upgrade over DeAndre swift and swift did what he did on that team last year. Like I just, I think this team's going to be really good. I agree. I think people are forgetting how good.
00:41:58
Speaker
the Eagles looked that first half of the season. And I think the 2024 Eagles are going to be something much closer to that than obviously that tailspin we saw close out the year. So I'm right there with you, man. I think they, I think they bounced back in a really big way and give the Niners a hell of a push for the, uh, the number one seed in the NFC this year.
00:42:17
Speaker
All right, that's it, man. Hit us with some closing thoughts, and we'll get out of here for next week. 12 days till football. It's almost time. Next week, we will have live football on when we record. On Monday, we'll have live football that week. So you guys take care, and we'll talk to you next week. Another shot. She'll love me again. Make it a double.
00:42:40
Speaker
Whiskey, whiskey, won't you go away Come again some other day Cause a memory came out to play And I'm tired of it, tired of it I don't wanna wonder where she been Where she at? She was sittin' out, she gone again I'm in the back Now it's me and all my whiskey friends And I'm tired of it, tired of it Yeah, street, dog, brown, skin, car, eye, contact, while walkin' in
