Packers Family Night Excitement

00:01:35
Speaker
given away. And it seems fitting that we're recording tonight during Packers family night. So yeah the the season kind of officially begins when the Packers have their family night and we hit our our goal followers for for the for the meantime. And Chuck, what have you noticed so far watching family night? Anything stuck out to you?
00:01:57
Speaker
Not really, I just the what really kind of gets me is the the tradition and you can see just the smiles, even on the coaches face that they get to bring their families and all the kids and everything. This is this doesn't happen everywhere. And I think that's, you know, one of the
00:02:18
Speaker
the reasons why, um, the peckers, uh, are a special franchise and, um, kind of proud. I know as a season ticket holder, I never went to family and I just out of respect. Cause I know there's a lot of people who have never, you know, get a chance. And sometimes this is one of their first chances to go. So I've respected that and I've never been there personally. I, I just kind of, I am kind of interested to see what it's like though, you know, in person. Yeah, it's crazy atmosphere. It's just like a regular season game. It's just, there's just a big, as you want to call it, a glorified practice, you know, and it's still cool to see that they sell out every single year that I can remember, you know?
00:03:04
Speaker
Yeah, that's ah impressive. I know um Jeff Halfley was talking about it the other day in the press conference, you know how, yeah. It's finished at 1215 today, and there's people at nine o'clock at night still tailgating in the parking lot. I'm sorry. goes This great. I'm glad to be here. Yeah. Thumb down though. And we are it's just good the to see. I like seeing Marshawn Lloyd. I mean, I'm watching it here on my phone right now.

Team Performance Highlights

00:03:36
Speaker
I like seeing Marshawn Lloyd behind Jordan Love.
00:03:40
Speaker
ah I was watching a couple of the, uh, you know, the mock kick returns and they had you saw Nixon and, uh, um, Jaden Reed returning kicks and punts and whatnot. And this, this team just looks fast. Yeah. Yeah. And I, I think that's, isn't something the Packers in the past have always been. And so I, I, I like this, you know, and they did, and it's just not contained to the offensive side, you know, cause then you look on the defense and Clay Walker, Adrian Cooper, you know, and you got.
00:04:15
Speaker
and ja year And so I think I think speed is going to be a real key key for us competing for our, you know, for the title. So right. i like Go ahead. No, that was it. I was going to say one cool thing that I did, I did catch was. They're kind of introducing the Packers rookie class this year. And like three or four of them said they grew up, they grew up a Packers fan. And to be on the team he grew up rooting for. And then Kaitlyn King said his favorite player is Charles Woodson. Hey, if he can emulate Charles Woodson in Green Bay, we're going places.
00:04:57
Speaker
ah yeah Yeah, you don't even have to. I mean, if you get you use 75% of Charles Woodson, you're dead. We're happy. Definitely. Yeah, if you have the the the the the knowledge and the the ability to help coach your defense on that field when you're out there, that's that's huge. Get people in the right spot to make the right play. It's it's going to play over huge. I'm this super excited for this class. This is even in the next few years.
00:05:28
Speaker
Yeah. And um obviously I'm, I'm really encouraged with defense and how everything's sounding. Obviously, you know, it's a first, you know, first year in this new defense. So we're going to see some hiccups, but I think the nice thing is with so many young guys, Hey, they're starting all where the veterans are, you know, and we're, they're all going to learn together and all going to grow. So I think, you know, in the next couple of years, it's just going to get better. So I'm. Yeah, I'm i'm watching ah Sean Clifford here, and I i don't know. I think ah think ah Pratt helped to get his job. I think Pratt's going to be our QB too, to be honest.
00:06:12
Speaker
Yeah, I, I was not a big fan of Clifford. like I think last preseason though, I thought he, he did some nice things, you know, and so, and i you know, hopefully, you know, my goal for Clifford last year was that he would never get to play unless it was mop up, you know, which is pretty much the goal of every, you know, backup. So, but I. I like, I saw Brett in college and I liked, you know, a lot of the things he could do. So I think that's very possible that maybe ah by the end of camp, he could be, you know, push Clifford to two, but Clifford's got the year of knowing, you know, knowing the offense, you know, that's going to help, help him. Right. Like I was just watching a play where the pocket broke down and he just kind of tried to do like a reverse roll out.
00:07:04
Speaker
And I'm thinking if that would have been Pratt, first instinct you think would have been to take off and run. Boom. He's gone. Right. Right. you know so but maybe they're just trying to keep him in the pocket to see what he does in those situations you know but uh I'm just excited with like the like the swagger of the defense like what the rookie c class brings in for the defense what they add I'm seeing I'm you know I I said in the offseason that once we drafted uh
00:07:36
Speaker
marshall and lloyd that he was going to be running back to, but I'm kind of, I got a place in the in my heart for AJ Dillon to be yeah successful as a running back to just because you, you, you've seen his. his training at his training, like what he does in the off season. He, he, he, he slimmed up. He, he bulked up and I think he's out there to prove people wrong you know and and try to take a bigger role as a running back, as you know, Aaron Jones departed. And then just to be the, the, the deadly one, two punch behind Josh Jacobs. Definitely. And nice thing. He, he knows the system. He's a pretty good.
00:08:21
Speaker
blocker, you know, and he's strong enough, you know, he's not going to get bull rushed by some, you know, guys, even though he's running back. Cause I think Marshawn Lloyd, it might, you know, what might keep him and right away is, or as many downs as his past blocking ability. And I'm sure he'll get there, but it's going to take a little while. So, but yeah, you have, you know, Jacobson and say you had Jacobson Dylan pounding the ball. You're getting a defense on their heels and then you bring in to say Marshawn Lloyd.
00:08:53
Speaker
add that extra, that extra element of surprise, so to say, you know, but it's just crazy. This is, it's just crazy to see Lambo hopping again. You know, it's great. And the funny thing is Emmanuel Wilson's actually looked pretty good. Yeah. And he's there too. yeah You know, you get, you get, that you get, I mean, if, if, if they do keep four running backs and you got, let's say it's Jacob's Dylan, uh, Marshawn Lloyd and Emmanuel Wilson, You got thunder, thunder, thunder,

Season Expectations and Key Players

00:09:25
Speaker
lightning. went on I'm super excited for that. this It's going to be awesome. I can't wait. Football's finally started. From here until February, our ah weekends are going to be full. all right right
00:09:42
Speaker
oh I got an email yesterday from kind of the NFL that because of a Packer season ticket holder, they're giving us $70 off on the direct Sunday ticket. So that was kind of cool. so Yeah, that's like super expensive too, you know? yeah Yeah. That's crazy. So right now I'm ah weighing that out because last year, You know, I didn't have the NFL ticket like I did all those other years with direct TV. So, um, I, uh, got that NFL dot.com, uh, pack the app and I was able to pretty much watch all the games and a red zone with that. Yeah. Got to look at the pricing on that. So being out of state guy, it's a little more important to me because, you know, maybe if you have five or six, you know, national games, you know, um,
00:10:41
Speaker
You know, what about the other 11, you know, and I kind of need to watch those. Of course, you can't miss those. No, no. Have you been paying attention to the kicking battle in cramps so far? And what are your thoughts? Yeah, ah Carlson started out really good. Now I think Joseph's kind of been nice and consistent. And I just think unless. ah blows them away. I think they're we're going to keep Carlson just because we invested a pick in him. that's That's kind of my feeling. i I'd like to hear what you think on on that. It's hard because
00:11:24
Speaker
ah Like I was on the Carlson train because he's only a rookie and I was trying to compare like his rookie year to Mason Crosby's rookie year and it's kind of, you know, he had a little bit better kicking percentage. His rookie year than Mason did, but Mason had more attempts and more makes.
00:11:43
Speaker
But. I don't know, maybe bringing Carlson in was a good thing to compete and make or bringing Josephine was a good thing to compete with Carlson and be like, Hey, look, no one's safe here. yeah yeah better but You better shape up and get better. and as as you're a reboot and you're in to get on here, I was watching and and Carlson made a 46 yard field goal. So that's, you know, so that's, that's, that's a little bit of of a confidence booster, but we'll see, you know, like, like, like, uh, LeFlore said that they're just going to play it out and see what happens, which is the only thing you can do, you know?
00:12:22
Speaker
I think that's good that he's not given Carlson a little confidence. I think it's like, Hey, you know, you got to, you got to, you got to do it. You got to succeed. And so, um, yeah, I think he needs that. But you remember ah his brother, Daniel Carlson, kicker for the Raiders. He kind of had a bad first year too. And obviously straightened himself off pretty well. So hopefully he talked to his brother in the off season and, you know, maybe got some, got some advice and.
00:12:53
Speaker
Yeah. Now, I'm sitting here watching. They're doing a punt from like the goal line that I just see AJ Dylan run on to the field in the in the special team. So, that's if you got him bailing down on you or throwing blocks in the thing, that's you know, they're they're utilizing, you know, Dylan and you know, to get down the field and maybe pop somebody, you know, well That's that's the beauty of having depth is that oh we have depth now We can have better guys on the special teams better athletes, you know Then maybe we have had in the past because we are a deep team and so I'm thinking that'll help i I watched a little of that kind of ugly Hall of Fame game you know on Thursday before before rain killed it but um
00:13:45
Speaker
just ah really to watch the, um, the kickoff, you know, new rule. Yeah. And, uh, I dunno, it's, it's a little, it could be exciting. It didn't really look real exciting, uh, but, uh, we'll, we'll see. I think Kishan Nixon is going to be, if he can, he and the coaching staff can figure this out. I think we, I think this could be a real big plus for us. Yeah. And if they, like, if, like I'm watching here, if they sprinkle in Jaden Reed returning punts, punts and kicks, that's going to be huge too. And from what I've been hearing and reading, ah Nixon's been making some, some plays on defense in training camp too. So I think he's getting more familiar with the defense as well. It'd be in his that you want his third year in Green Bay. Is it Nixon? Yeah.
00:14:41
Speaker
He's getting more comfortable with the system and hopefully they can have him as a trusty playmaker on defense as well. One thing I was going to ask you, have you seen any clips of Romeo Dobbs beating Jair Alexander in coverage? Have you seen those? Yeah, I have. A lot of hearing thoughts on that. it's like well
00:15:11
Speaker
I know Jair probably likes, he likes to take risks more than other people probably because of his exceptional athletic ability. And I know they like to do that in camp. so um But one of the other interviews I heard though, um is that Doc
00:15:31
Speaker
tougher packer receivers for other teams to cover. And so I guess that's not totally, you know, he maybe doesn't have the Watson speed or the size. He's a, you know, he wrote good route runner and everything. So and I don't know. yeah Sure. Your question is, is this, uh, is this something great about Dobbs or is this kind of, uh, uh, scavenge high years? He didn't a little slower. No, I just, I just think it, I think it speaks to the fact that Dobbs is getting better every single year and he can beat the best on defense.
00:16:08
Speaker
yeah I'm not, I'm not, so I'm not throwing jabs at Jair. I'm just saying that I think Dobbs is getting better every single year and I've said from the first year that he, from his rookie year, I, I said that he reminds me of Devante. mixed in with, with, with Jordy Nelson. That's what does he reminds me of. And he's, if he's sitting there beating, you know, say he's beaten Jair in practice, is maybe it is his practice, but it's still showing something, you know, and it is in a short in the regular season that he he's beaten the team's best defenders, you know, so.
00:16:43
Speaker
and And that's the, I think that's great, you know, that we have Jair. So our receivers, they get tested every practice against, you know, good guys. And so that's, I think that definitely prepares them better for, for Sundays when you're, you're getting challenged in practice every day. Right. Like they say, iron sharpens iron. So they yeah, definitely.

Team Chemistry and Leadership

00:17:08
Speaker
What are your thoughts on the Packers receiving room this year? Um, I'm pretty happy with it. Obviously. Now I know during the off season, you hear, Oh, they should go get Brandon. I uke or they should, you know, cause and it's like, why ain't why we're obviously a very successful offense last year.
00:17:32
Speaker
you know and um why would we add a big salary to the cap break up the chemistry you know there was um there's no upside to that and plus we had first and second year receivers and look how well they performed at the end of the year they're only going to get better you know and it's And the nice thing is we can literally go four four deep, maybe even five deep and still not have a ah drop off, you know? Right. um You know, because even if the other team has a couple of good corners, can can they still cover our three or four? You know, those guys can still get open too. And so that's... Well, you you got to think about if you got two good corners and they got to cover, they got to decide who they're going to cover out of those four,
00:18:23
Speaker
And then you got, let's say, Musgrave and Craft burning your linebackers. What are you going to do there? Because having Musgrave and Craft, it's like having a big bodied receiver that can move you know and catch the ball. Um, it's just, I haven't, I mean, every year is different, but these last two draft classes had been amazing. I think dude's done a really good job getting the talent in the room. And I think, um,
00:18:57
Speaker
uh, Larry McCarran was saying. about these, he's even talking about the last few draft classes and how like, like this year is going to be different because before the floor was trying to manage dealing with Aaron Rodgers and trying to cater to him. And I think that kind of messed with the team chemistry a little bit. And now you got everyone who was on board was Jordan love there. And then, you know, I just think that it's the teams in a better overall position.
00:19:29
Speaker
this year than the had been in the years past. I know. Um, I, yeah, I, I totally agree. And nothing, you know, I have nothing but respect for Aaron Rogers. Right. Did for the Packers. However, I think the one benefit, one of the benefits of now moving on and having Jordan here is we really get to see the little floor offense. Yep. so because you know? aaron was calling stuff off and aaron didn't like motion and he didn't like you know and the motion can really help scheme guys open you know even though i think our guys are pretty good and they may not need it but it's always You know, I, that's why I think, um, why we saw such, uh, such excellence on offense last year, especially in the second half, because the guys were kind of getting used to it and Jordan got a little, you know, under pressure. Then, then I think he opened up the playbook a little more and, uh, and you could see what that, uh, what, how well that worked.
00:20:29
Speaker
Yeah. The the second one you said, I mean, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not dog and Aaron Rodgers. I think he, he did a hell of a job for the Packers. I respect them, but it just, it got kind of squirrely towards the end. You know what I'm saying? And that, you know, you know, ah thinking for everything he gave a degree in Bay, but it's just, when it's time to move move on, it's time to move on. It's either we stick with Aaron Rodgers. We run the risk of losing. his predecessor who's been behind him for the last three to four years. Do we risk losing him to keep somebody around for one or two more years? To me, I don't i don't hate that risk. Cut ties when you can in this. I mean, we could have a terrible quarterback. We could have you know like a Sean Clifford you know as our starting quarterback or you know what I'm saying? his is i'd rather have I'm glad we have Jordan Levin and things worked out the way they did for sure.
00:21:23
Speaker
um that's fine And speaking of Jordan Love, there has been some ah so like Tua and, ken ah I can't think of the other quarterback, Tua and Trevor Lawrence signing those contracts. And then Jordan Love, what are your thoughts on where do you think they stand as top quarterbacks in the NFL compared to Love? Well, um I think love ah Love is better than both of them actually. And I'll tell you why. Now, Tua has really or talented receivers. And you see up and how up and down he is. you know And I know he's you know he's he's got skills and everything, but he's not as consistent yeah as Jordan. and
00:22:15
Speaker
Trevor, you know he was the number one pick and granny he doesn't have quite the probably quite the you know skill ah skill players to work around with that Jordan does, but still he's um He's been a little disappointing, you know, he's also been up and down. I mean, as a number one pick, you know, I think they Jacksonville probably felt they had no choice, you know, it's like, I didn't want to start over. They saw enough good things out of them. That's like, yeah, we're paying you this money for the future. Not what you did in the past couple of years. And so, right. obviously yeah The thing with Tua is you got to think back to,
00:22:59
Speaker
i his longevity. How long do you think he's how long you think is's going to be? I mean, ken those can those concussions that he that he suffered in in the past due to the neglect of the Dolphins, will that come back to haunt them haunt him affecting his play? You know what I'm saying? And then as I saw today, Tyreek Hill signed the new contract. Yeah, I saw that. It's like 145 million guaranteed or something like that. It's something crazy. And it's just like these receivers are just messing up the league with the money they're making. I mean, I get it. I mean, he wants to get paid. He has like, you know, sure. no I don't know who has it more kids, him or me. I have five. I know. But yeah you know, you know what I'm saying? e admire It's it's what have the Dolphins done? Well,
00:23:49
Speaker
ah saying They shouldn't have resigned Tyree Kelly's explosive stuff, but they really should have been putting more money on that offensive line, you know, to keep, you know, to a upright, you know, that would, that should have been their, you know, their focus, but, uh, I just think ah to is not he's too erratic. You're right. He's got the concussion issue, which as you know, we've seen in the past, you know, another one or two, he could be done, you know, and it's like, so that's that's scary from, you know, at least from the outside looking in, so.
00:24:29
Speaker
Right. Yeah. I, I mean, he, like you said, he takes a couple of good hits and he could be done. And, yeah um, I mean, I get the team, you know, if they don't have to, uh, they're going to be starting over as well. And I don't think they want to start over because that would just put them in a bad spot. And, yeah but I think, I think out of those three quarterbacks, I think Jordan love is, is, is the one that's most
00:24:56
Speaker
that deserved the money the most. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, like I said, I was going to ask you if you thought that love deserved the big period. Absolutely. I do. I think, I think you get it done before the season. So it's not a distraction, you know? Oh we yeah, exactly. We just wanted to focus on football. You know, Jordan just got engaged. And so he said, though the wedding bill just went up. He said, now that he's signed his new contract. I'm sure his fiance said, well, I guess we could use it to this. Yeah, and I'm sure his wedding is not going to be cheap. No, but if that's his biggest problem, life is good for Jordan. so Right? He's going to be well taken care of for the rest of his life.
00:25:47
Speaker
yeah No, go ahead. We won't have to see his mom sitting. We won't have to see his mom and sister sitting in the top row in Kansas city. like right one yeah Yeah. They'll be in the box now. so yeah Hell, they can just give her a field pass, be on the sideline. yeah yeah exactly I actually, i it's funny that you you brought that up because ah not the where she was sitting, but last night I had on my show, I had the guy, if you remember back to the game in Chicago, where he showed Jordan's love of mom in the stands, and there was that guy with you sat on. I had him on my show last night. Oh, nice, nice. Yeah, good guy, James james Jefferson. he's
00:26:34
Speaker
He's been on my show a couple of times and every time. It's just crazy just seeing him there and and then do all this. He's like looking, he was sitting there in in a cheese head, Packard Jersey. He's, he lives in Illinois, I think he lives in Chicago. His mom and dad are Bears fans. So his mom sitting there in a Bears uniform and he has a cheese head on and they're both looking at their phones because once they were showing on national TV, all his friends and everything were blowing their phones up. Like, yeah, I saw you on TV and this and that. and ah from But yeah, he was on good guy. Um,
00:27:12
Speaker
And I know like you mentioned the Hall of Fame. When do you think, if if you think, will Shirley and Sharp, will Sterling Sharp make the Hall of Fame in your eyes?
00:27:27
Speaker
A, he should, because he was so dominant when he was playing. You know, ah however, I think it's it might need um what they call the, kind of the veterans committee, you know, I'm worried that it, cause he should have been picked earlier and he hasn't. So I'm worried that it's probably going to take like the veterans committee to say, oh, this dude was dominant. You know, he just played a few less years than, you know, normally we have. And so, so I think he will be, but I think it's going to take a,
00:28:04
Speaker
you know a little longer. you know i liked you know um here um His brother's inductee speech said, I'm the second best player in my family. and on yeah Yeah. He's campaigning for his brother. I remember that. no So hopefully yeah hopefully his soapbox will maybe help ah um Sterling. But do you know the the other thing I don't think um I felt Sterling stopped talking to the press, kind of in the middle of his Packer tenure. And because he's some reporter misquoted him or whatever, but I don't know that I felt that kind of heard him a little that maybe the Packer fans didn't really get to know as much about about him as you would your normal star player. you know And so, because he kind of shut him off. i don't
00:28:59
Speaker
I don't think that should affect, but I don't think that helps to be honest. because yeah sports Cause sports writers are voting on, you know, there are a lot of the voters on this. So I don't think that that helped. Yeah. I don't, I can't imagine that it that does help that when you, you stop talking to the people that vote. Yeah. Um, But I'm just sitting here watching these kids from Waupon try to field punts. And that's awesome. A new little wrinkle they added in. Ooh, we caught one having you know local football teams or know youth football players come in and be part of practice. I think it's kind of cool.
00:29:42
Speaker
um yeah done
00:29:47
Speaker
It's not easy catching those balls ah off of those, uh, machines when they're, you know, or, or just upon that's anyone. yeah It's not easy. Because you're looking at about the bright lights and trying to concentrate and getting the right right spot. And God forbid, if there's any wind and stuff, there's call a fair catcher on the opposite way of the ball. Um, This last week, the Packers unveiled their winter warning ah uniforms. What are your thoughts on those? The white ones? Yeah. I ah kind of like them. I wish it would have had a yellow stripe in the middle of the helmet. I think that would have might have all brought it together. But I think white is kind of cool. But that my my thing is I
00:30:42
Speaker
I would have liked it not at a noon game, you know, having a white at a noon game. I think it might've been cooler at a night game, but my favorite alternative um helmet is the those green ones that they have, they've had in the past. Those are pretty sharp. So. Yeah. I think it'd be cool to have like the green ones with a big old wedge of cheese on the side. oh Nice. Yeah. Uh, like what, when you're like watching this practice, like, is there anything in specific that you're, that you look for as far as a certain positional group or players or. Well, I, I think it goes from year to year, depending on, um, positional needs, you know, like, uh,
00:31:33
Speaker
You know, last year I was really looking at the the linebackers and the safeties, you know, and I'm probably be looking at them again, but I feel significantly better about the, about the safeties. And we've heard good things about pretty much all, um, all the safeties of old, um, you know, all the depots getting them getting back into the swing of things now. So, um, hopefully. see because Evan Williams is the good and Bullard. He's going to be real good and and obviously Xavier McKinney is doing great. so
00:32:09
Speaker
um but yeah um What I generally look for is ah just kind of speed. I just, just you know, and try to see something that just wow, gives me a wow factor, you know, and or it shows me that, yeah, I think they they know what they're doing or, you know, it's just solid hands or, you know, just it's really hard to tell from one of those practices, but I just ah try to look for something that stands out that gives me confidence that this guy's going to be able to do something. Yeah, the you mentioned speed, but when you have speed and you're making plays and you know what you're doing, you can have you can have speed and not know what you're doing and look like a total fool. But when you have speed and you make the right moves and in and and everything, it's
00:33:02
Speaker
It's huge. That's what our defense needs, right you know, and that to have the competition as safety that we have. here And you can tell they're all, they all get along and they're all, you know, friends and everything. They just make each other better. And that's what we need on our team. You know, we need the, you know, the, whatever you want to call it, a this cheer for each other. And I have grudges, you know what I'm saying? Right. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I i totally do. Well, when you, when you get along and do you feel comfortable with each other, you know, the communication is going to be better because you're not worried about hurting someone's feelings. If you have to yell out this call or whatever, you know, they're not going to take it personally because you're your buddy. So, you know, you're going to do it and you're not worried about dumb stuff like hurting someone's feelings. You're just yelling it out. so Right. I mean,
00:33:56
Speaker
they're They're growing men. Exactly. you know like They're going for a job. And if you know if that fact if that creates an ultimate level of competition, that's that's kind of what you're looking for. you know yeah How many NFL teams do you think are watching this practice? All of them.
00:34:20
Speaker
i mean ah I'm sure they're, they probably, they may not all be watching like we watch, but you know, they're all, at least they're setting their intern. It's like, Hey, go record this live stream from, you know, from today. And um I'm sure, you know, heck if, if Bella check would, you know, ah videotape other, other teams practices, you know, they're watching ones that they can legally do over a live stream. So, and yeah from from what I've heard in the past,
00:34:52
Speaker
There's been, you know, 20 or 30 guys from other teams in our building on the, you know, on family night. So yeah, I wouldn't, wouldn't, wouldn't doubt it. You know, uh, it kind of brings me back to the, I was reading this kind of is like off subject, but as far as like, you know, stealing and and not stealing, but the sign stealing in Michigan, like I, I, I, I didn't look too much in new, but I saw headlines this last week that. they're gonna penalize the program like hardcore. And I was just wondering if do you think it'd be fair if it took away the national championship.
00:35:33
Speaker
I don't know. I don't know how much they would gain from the sign stealing, but you got to do something. Maybe a monetary thing. It's funny because my wife's side of the family, you know, they went, they all went to Michigan. My mother-in-law, aunt and uncle and stuff. That's kind of funny. And then, um, obviously, you know, sending a daughter to, to Madison, you know, we cheer for the Badgers and, uh, you know, her uncle would always call me and give me, give me grief. You know, when the, when Michigan would beat the Badgers, you know, and Right. But then when it was the other way around, I couldn't get ahold of him for some weird. No, but you you go back and you look at the evidence against Michigan in that science ceiling scandal. And they had that guy in full opponent gear on the sideline ah ah of the opposing team that Michigan wasn't even playing like they're playing like later on in the year. And how do you get
00:36:34
Speaker
clearance to be on that field on that team sideline without being noticed. That is that's the next level. And if I mean, if all I mean, if they bring the hammer down on them, i I think that I mean, I don't know if you if you take away the national championship or not. I think it'd be. I wouldn't argue with it, yeah you know, especially being a badger fan. yeah yeah
00:37:05
Speaker
We know it but even even I mean theyre not not this is a different subject because I'm all over the place all the time, but Badgers camp They sound you know looking awesome some some some freshmen running backs they have coming in ah they're like they natural odds Yeah, yeah he yeah this is This is gonna be good and I like telling the guys that work, obviously they, you know, being in North Carolina here, they don't see a lot of Badger fans. So, you know, they're asking me, oh, how many teams does a big 10 have now? And I go 18 because we got the new West coast teams. And, and, um, so I said pretty much we're always going to be good. We're going to be good in defense. We're going to have good running backs, so offensive line, and the key to take us to the next level.
00:37:58
Speaker
is solid quarterback play. And I think that's, that's what we need to see this year. If we're going to be just a good team, are we going to be, you know, condingent they just signed a ah ah future with 2026. Yeah, I saw that. So I mean, we' we're seeing the, I think we're seeing the Luke fickle trickle down right now happening with recruiting. He's getting all new people in there. They're bringing back former greats, like on the offensive line. It was like Casey Robert, Robert Robert. He's coming into something like director player personnel. And I mean, they got new people at scouting and I just think, you know,
00:38:44
Speaker
And you have like on Twitter, I don't know if you if you follow ah Luke Fickle or the Badgers, but whenever there's like like a big announcement coming up, there's always a that that man that jump around thing where he walks out on the balcony of his office at Camp Randall. And then you got Joe Thomas like doing gardening in the garden. And it's just I mean, you then you get you know, then you Like Lyman, it's like Lyman University, running back to university. I mean, you got Joe Thomas, took at all the people in the NFL on the on the line that are from Wisconsin. now You know, it's just, I think Wisconsin and barr Barry Alvarez is the one, the thing for all that because he was the architect back in the in the mid to late nineties with everything happening and getting them in there.

Wisconsin Sports Legacy and Future Plans

00:39:29
Speaker
and And it's funny because after um Alvarez came in and and got the football team better, good, then miraculously, oh, the basketball team got better. And then we got better coach and it just all fell into line. and i to You know, cause my kids don't know what it it was like. Cause I, you know, I, Born in 65, you know, so I saw those terrible Badger teams, you know, for decades, you know, and it's like not going to the NC play, not going to bowl games, you know, and now I, you know, since the nineties, it's, we've been one of the most consistent, you know, teams in the country going to bowl games and going to NCAA tournaments and. Right. And even like your basketball team, they, they, everyone's like always down on Greg guard, but he, I think he's doing a great job. ah He's lost, he's lost some people to the transfer portal and you know, you get, the thing is with the NIL now and, and, and you get in kids with.
00:40:30
Speaker
you know they They think they're better than everybody else, and they're not getting enough playing time and this and that. It hurts their ego. They think they can do better elsewhere. All right, and go ahead and do it. you know And they brought in some decent transfers to Wisconsin. They did. you know they did And next not this year, but next year, they'll have a kid from DePeer coming in where I'm from where i'm at right now. DePeer, Zach King. Uh, how is botch his name? Kinziger. He's coming in. He's all, all state, you know, guard from Depere. He's, good and pickets shoot yeah he's good. Yeah. He, uh, yeah. I mean, it's just.
00:41:11
Speaker
I think Wisconsin set up good on, on basketball, football. I mean, even like they're women's hockey is doing awesome. well Oh yeah. You know, and women's volleyball. Yeah. Yeah. But, uh, oh, there's a manual Wilson. But yeah, i ah I don't know. Like I said, like i said i'm I'm all over the place. I apologize. I just got a million things going through my head. That's how I think. I can tell them all. that's Yeah, but I don't know. I think ah ah think the Packers are going to have a good year. I'm going to stick with 12 and 5, 11 and 6. No, 12 and 5, 13 and 11 and In that ballpark, I think
00:41:55
Speaker
there'll be some trap games that we might lose, but every team gets those games. And if you play down, if you play down to your opponent and usually they're going to beat you up because, you know, they're going to catch you off guard or, but I, uh, you know, I'm, I'm super excited to see this rookie class get out there and and improve themselves on that, you know, um, uh, are you going to, you're going to the draft next year, aren't you? Yes I am, definitely. You are. Yeah, and'm I'm gonna go get my son-in-law, my brother, and one of my buddies, we're all all going up. Yeah, it's gonna be a good time.
00:42:35
Speaker
Yeah. So do you have, do you have family close to Green Bay or you guys got a daughter that lives in Fitchburg and my brother lives in Racine. So even though they're different areas, they're both two and a half hours away from Green Bay. So yeah. And so we'll, we'll, we're, uh, in the process of figuring out what to do, whether it's make, make the long drive back or we find a place. So. Yeah, I know that feeling. i ah I'm from, ah yeah I've said before, I'm from Oregon, which is pretty much Richburg. I went to school with kids that were
00:43:14
Speaker
from Fitchburg in Oregon, which is whatever. But ah so, yeah, I know that driver. I still got family in in the Madison area. So it's one hundred and twenty some odd miles, twenty three miles or something like that from from point A to point B for me. But I'm definitely going to do my best to make it there and have my wife drop me off at the yeah corner of Lombardi in Ashland and i'll make my way down Lombardi. That's a much better idea. Yeah. Well, um or you could maybe you could just get dropped off at a hotel that has a shuttle or something, if that's easier. and I'll take the walking if I can do it.
00:43:57
Speaker
um um I heard i heard the it's going to be even bigger, you know, um why ah space-wise than Detroit was. so They got that title town district pretty built up right now. It's looking looking pretty nice. They'll probably have, you know, if you think about it, they'll have, they'll probably have all the roads around the stadium. They're named after coaches and players blocked off. Yeah. We'll have like a home run way blocked off. They'll have Bart star pass McCarthy way. They'll have all those, you know, the roads that go by stadium view bar there. I mean, it's just going to be crazy. They're going to have like a, like a, like a, like a mile.
00:44:43
Speaker
radius all around the stadium blocked off.
00:44:48
Speaker
We'll have to parachute in. You might get shot down by the are the military. Nice. But yeah, it's just it's just a great feeling of football starting. And I didn't watch much of the Hall of Fame game because It wasn't too exciting, you know? Yeah, you didn't miss much. Yeah, I'm sitting here watching Jevon Buller at it. I'm I'm super excited to see him. See him go out there and and make a difference on defense. It's going to be awesome. um I think.
00:45:27
Speaker
Christian Watson at 95%. If, I mean, if he's a hundred percent, that's awesome. If he's a little bit below, I think he's, I think he's our wide receiver one big time. Yeah. He could beat any defense over the top and make huge players. Uh, it's just, uh, this football starting gets you in a better mood, ah point you know, mentally and, uh,
00:45:53
Speaker
I'm just watching this through here. Yeah, I mean, Cliffers look like trash so far, but Jordan Love's looking pretty good in this family night. I always liked the drill where they throw it in ah float into the nets. Yeah, I was watching that. There weren't too many that were what they were being made. so good yeah Yeah, I don't know. That's that's the one that's the one thing that ah Aaron Rodgers had mastered to perfection was from the 50 yard line right in the back corner of the end. But, you know, I'm sure one day Jordan Lovell will get there. No doubt.
00:46:35
Speaker
um yes i All has to do is win. well We don't care if he gets it in the net. Yeah, just win. Yeah, just win, baby. um But what I'm encouraged about is obviously the year with Rodgers when we won the Super Bowl is we had a top five defense that year. And I don't know, a lot of years we gave, um, we gave Rogers a top five defense. And I think at least the approach, uh, this last couple of years is heading in that right direction. So, you know, maybe we don't need a top five, maybe it just needs to be a top 10 and be consistent. And that might be enough, you know, but you know, the, in the bottom half isn't going to cut it. So. Yeah. Well.
00:47:25
Speaker
96 to is 2024 is 14 years. So this is our year. Every 14 years. there we go Uh, it's funny. I did. I don't know if you saw it my post earlier today on Twitter, like, which, like, are you, uh, something about, do you still watch your team's super bowl highlights? ah um and and white children <unk>s fit I think I saw the Desmond Howard kickoff return the other day on Twitter. So yeah.
00:48:03
Speaker
Yeah, I was like, if you still watch them on the VCR, I was was making a reference to so the Bears fans. cop but but They always, they always crack me up, but yeah. Yeah.
00:48:24
Speaker
As far as you're still going, I mean, it's nine o'clock at night, I suppose. It's still about two hour practice. Right. And then they're going to have fireworks and stuff tonight. Yeah. Yeah. That's the one thing that would be would be cool to be there. I mean, I've been at Family Night before, but just to be outside of the stadium and see the fireworks going off, too, would be awesome. Oh, definitely. Definitely. Good photo op. So i'm ah I'm always down for a good photo op. Definitely. Well, as a gold package ticket holder, we have three games this year, which is unusual. Usually we just have the two because of the you know ah extra home game. And we get, who is it? Oh, yeah, Minnesota and Chicago and Detroit. Those are our three games. So I think that's pretty good.
00:49:18
Speaker
Yeah. No, though I mean, those should be good games. I mean, if you think about it, the Vikings are always tough against us. And I mean, well, the bears probably won't be good against us, hopefully, but. i fight Boy, they're sure talking. I know they like to talk, but. had
00:49:38
Speaker
I don't know. It'll be interesting to see. There's no way they can be good as Bear fans think they'll be because that's not possible, but we'll see how Caleb. I think we'll see with Caleb Williams and Keenan Allen DJ more enrollment doomsday. They might have a decent offense there so. Yeah, but if the quarterback is on, like I said in the past, if the quarterback's on his back, he can't be throwing the ball to the receiver. So yeah, exactly yeah and it's good. I don't know if you're still watching, but it's good seeing Stokes out there. I like that. Yes, that's awesome. Yeah. oh
00:50:13
Speaker
yeah the his speed you know in the secondary we and we need the depth. I mean, Valentine came back, i was was very good last year and then with Jair and then, yeah, but I think that'd be a real key if Stokes can play well and play play often and not be hurt. I think that's going to be a key. Yeah, I mean, that it's going to make the opposing ah offense
00:50:43
Speaker
you know, guess and it's gonna make them think, you know, you're gonna have, I mean, you're gonna have Stokes and Jair and McKinney and and and i'm I'm guessing Bullard, maybe you'll have a like a like another safety on the field to cover maybe a tight end, but it's anything you're going to have with Sean, Gary, and Cooper, and Clark, and Kwai Walker coming for you. That's just going to be one, I mean, one scary defense. Do you see the attendance stat, the attendance they had come across the screen? The attendance tonight was 60,887 people.
00:51:26
Speaker
First of all, that's great, but it almost seems lower than usual, you know? Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, so we'll see um what how the season's going to play out. I i was going to ask you if you'd want to be on again. Let me see what I got. the I think ah August 25th is my next appearance. August 25th, okay. Sorry, I'm both going through June, July.
00:52:08
Speaker
I'm organized, but not organized. August, yeah, August 25th. And we'll have some games down by then to pre-season, yeah, pre-season games down. Yeah, there's a game that night before the 24th, so. um Yeah, the Ravens. Yep. So that would be good to talk about. Yeah. And even later on in the season, if you ever want to hop on, I'll, I'll shoot you some dates and, uh, we'll make it work. And, uh, yeah, cause I'm in the October already. So, okay. Good. So I'm, I'm keeping busy at my end. Did a great job tonight. Yeah. She's, he's eating snacks, drinking Gatorade, right? Yeah. Yeah. Life is good. Yep.
00:52:54
Speaker
and But Chuck, I want to thank you for being on tonight. I'm going to wrap it up for tonight's episode. and Yeah, my pleasure. Yeah, we'll see you in a few weeks and maybe we'll get some some other dates planned out after october after August But sounds good I'll let you know in the inbox what those dates are and you can come on whenever you want. If I have an open date, would be nine go ahead. That's more the merrier in my eyes. oh Fantastic. I had a great time. It's always a good time talking Packer football. so Absolutely. I had a good time as well. And hopefully, you know, hopefully they show the fireworks on TV.
00:53:41
Speaker
That'd be awesome. All right. Well, good night. And remember, go Paco. Absolutely. Go Paco. Thanks again. hi by
