Star Wars Rumors and Fandom Chaos

00:00:00
Speaker
So it seems like within the Star Wars fandom, you're able to make up literally any rumor that you want and report it as fact. So we have a little This Is The Way Seekers exclusive today. I heard that Jennifer Coolidge will be starring in a new Star Wars movie as Max Rebo.
00:00:17
Speaker
Oh, OK. I mean, I feel like that's like the gay agenda at work. Like, let's do it. Yeah. Let's just piss off all the Star Wars fads. Let's make Max Rebo a woman. I'm I'm down for it. Like, I just imagine her. She'll be like, hi, as she plays. It'll be great. Yes. So thank you. Make sure to report it in your YouTube videos. You heard it here first on this is The Way Secrets.

Upcoming Star Wars Topics Preview

00:01:24
Speaker
Scotty, what's on our agenda today?
00:01:27
Speaker
Well, we're going to be going over all of the Ray movie drama that's been happening recently. You know, it's been a lot. There's been rumblings about a Star Wars What If series, so we're going to get into that. We got some updates on Andor season two from Diego Luna. Plus, we're going to talk about Star Wars actors meeting for the first time. It's going to be fun.
00:01:48
Speaker
Yeah, amazing. Yes, super jam packed. And at the same time, we're expecting a bad batch trailer this week just because of all the rumblings we've seen on Twitter from the writer and the kinders and whatnot.

Speculating a Star Wars What If Series

00:02:03
Speaker
But it's still not here yet as of recording this on Thursday. So don't know when it's going to release, but I have a feeling that it will be right when this episode goes up.
00:02:13
Speaker
Yep, I was thinking the same thing earlier today, but you know, we'll cover it regardless.
00:02:19
Speaker
Yes, yes, we're gonna do a reaction and break down a little bonus episode because Star Wars likes to keep us busy. Speaking of being busy, let's get into our hot like Mustafar this week, everything we got going on in the last week in Star Wars. So starting off, we have a rumor here from Daniel Richmond, and Daniel Richmond claims that a Star Wars What If series is in the works at Lucasfilm in the same vein as Marvel's What If on Disney Plus.
00:02:47
Speaker
So far there hasn't really been any information reported on it, like whether it would be animated or live action, but I can't imagine it not being animated unless they make it the most expensive show of all time.
00:03:00
Speaker
Yeah, honestly, I imagine that it would be animated as well. I'm not super familiar with Marvel's. But one thing I was thinking is like if they were to do live action, this could be the return of Padme. We could see Natalie Portman back. Like I always think what could we see her in? Because, you know, we all want her to come back to Star Wars. But I'm like, what if series would probably be the best place?
00:03:23
Speaker
Yeah, for me, I just want to see them mention Padme's name at some point. They just fucking act like she doesn't exist. So but but honestly, I feel like Padme would probably be a key character in a Star Wars What If series, because I feel like the biggest what if everyone talks about is like, what if Anakin never turned to the dark side? What if Anakin and Padme got to raise Luke and Leia, you know?
00:03:46
Speaker
Things like that. And honestly, I feel like if they're going to make a Star Wars series, they're going to go for those ones that people want to see. You know what I mean? Well, and worst case scenario, if it's not live action, if it's animation, we've already got a great Padme anyway. So let's bring her over from the Clone Wars.
00:04:04
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, 100 percent. For me, I don't hate the idea of a what if series, but I do not like Marvel's what if series. For me, the series started off with like a good premise of like in the first episode, it's basically what if Peggy Carter became Captain America? I know you don't know who that is, but it's Captain America's girlfriend in the movies, basically.
00:04:27
Speaker
And the whole premise of why that happens is because she makes one different decision. She doesn't go into the booth when they turn him into Captain America. And that one decision changed everything, kind of like a butterfly effect.

Potential What If Storylines and Format Preference

00:04:43
Speaker
But then the show went on to just basically be, what if these characters met? What if...
00:04:50
Speaker
You know, this character was from a different planet. You know, like it was different, but it didn't tell you why it was different. For me, if they do, what if Anakin Skywalker turned to the dark side? I want to see what was the singular decision that caused the butterfly effect for him not to turn to the dark side. You know what I mean? Do you feel the same?
00:05:11
Speaker
Yeah, where it's more like scenario based or like it's kind of like a if this happened, why or how would it affect what we know to be Star Wars as it is? Part of me wonders because we kind of touched on this last week with the Battle of the Heroes film that we talked about. That was like we heard the rumors about what if Ahsoka went to Mustafar with or without Obi-Wan to confront Anakin. So that's something that I think would be a cool scenario to visit and something I'd be more on board with.
00:05:38
Speaker
However, something that they could do because, you know, there's legends. We could also just get this to be almost an adaptation of legends instead of actual like what if scenarios, which I don't know if I'd really like that any better. I know there's tons of legends stands and it would also be nice because of how Disney was like everything, you know, other than the Clone Wars and the movies is not canon anymore. So yeah, get over it.
00:06:07
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know if this would be the series for it though, because like, that's what I was saying. Like, I feel like Marvel's What If series has basically just become like a way to tell other stories that didn't happen in the main universe. When yeah, I want to see more of like, like if Ahsoka faces Anakin, I want to see why Obi-Wan wasn't able to and why Ahsoka had to, if that makes sense.
00:06:29
Speaker
No, I think that's a good idea. And just in talking about this more like if they did this, it'd be animation. There's no way they would be in live action. And I think as it's always talked about with animation, you can do so much more with animation. I don't think I'd want it in live action thinking about it now as much as I'd want to see Natalie Portman, like I talked about before, like
00:06:51
Speaker
I'd much rather see this in animation. So we get that full scope. We can tell those bigger, bigger stories. And, you know, we could see a lead up to Obi-Wan couldn't come because of this. So Ahsoka goes, or like everyone talks about what if Ahsoka didn't leave the order, you know, kind of picking up from what happened in Clone Wars and then continuing it from there. But then people would complain about Clone Wars animation. So yeah, there's lots of there's a lot of what ifs with this with this rumor.
00:07:19
Speaker
Right. Yeah, there's no way that it would be live action. That's what I mean. Like if it was live action, it would be the most expensive show of all time. Because how are you going to get Mark Hamill, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, fucking Daisy Ridley, like all these big star names that now make $50 million per movie. They're not going to be in it. And they're not going to voice the animated characters either unless it's like
00:07:43
Speaker
In Marvel, like the Marvel What If show, if the actual actor voices their character, you could tell us because they they care about that character. But it's not going to be a paycheck type show. Well, as we've learned from the Star Wars animated shows that we have gotten, there's a great cast of voice actors that they usually always bring in. So I don't think I'd even have any complaints, even if it wasn't the original actors, because the voice casting that they've done so far has been pretty good and they're all pretty great.
00:08:11
Speaker
Yeah, and people have to remember there is a difference between being a voice actor and being an actor. It's a whole different thing. You know, making sure every emotion that you need to convey is conveyed through your voice and not through your body movements because you don't know what the body movement is going to be.
00:08:26
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, we heard Katie Sackhoff talk about that with going through animated book to end the live action. She said literally just that. So she's the outlier. Yeah. A hundred percent. A hundred percent. So the Emmy's happened this past Monday and, you know, and or is up for eight nominations.
00:08:44
Speaker
Unfortunately, they won zero, which is a hate

Andor Snubbed at Emmys and Season Two Excitement

00:08:48
Speaker
crime. However, we did get some exciting news from Diego Luna on the red carpet and speaking with variety, he had let them know that he only has seven days left of filming for Andor season two, which is really exciting, especially with, you know, all the delays that have happened with the strikes and just the fact that
00:09:09
Speaker
they're trying to cram in what is it four or five years into this season. But that's really exciting. And on top of that, they had asked him like, Oh, do you want to see your character continue? And what Diego Luna said was,
00:09:24
Speaker
with his story what he likes about it is he knows there's an end so basically no but i'm also kind of excited about that too because we've all known where it's going the actors know where the stories are going and it kind of reminds me of how sometimes we don't get endings for shows so it's going to be nice that this one has an ending that was predetermined it's funny how that worked out
00:09:47
Speaker
Right. I am so ready for Andor to come back. Just one of the best Star Wars shows ever. I was actually watching some clips from One Way Out today and I just get chills from like Andy Serkis' performance or just like the ending there with I Can't Swim. So like the fact that it was snubbed at the Emmys and got zero awards
00:10:12
Speaker
That is insane. I agree. The Emmys, fuck you. Listen, I know that there were some great shows in the last year. It was going up against Succession, Better Call Saul. It's not like they really appreciated those shows either. Better Call Saul, six seasons, never once did they win a fucking Emmy.
00:10:37
Speaker
You know what I mean? So I just think these award shows are just bullshit. I don't know whose opinion they're supposed to represent, but it sure isn't the way seekers opinion. So many good monologues in this show, so many great performances. And yes, there was plenty of great performances around kind of like you mentioned, but I still kind of can't believe that and or one absolutely nothing. But, you know, we love and or
00:11:04
Speaker
So, yeah, so excited for season two. But I'm sad because that means that there's seven days left of Diego Luna. And mind you, this was five days ago. So that means that there's probably like two days left now.
00:11:19
Speaker
Oh, yeah, because I'm pretty sure when I was watching the clip, he was like, yeah, after the show, I'm flying back to London and we're starting tomorrow. So, yeah, he's going to be done very soon. That was yeah, that was on Sunday. So, wow. But I'm I'm I'm excited, like I said, to see what season two has to offer. I'm a little skeptical of the whole
00:11:41
Speaker
let's jam five years into it because the whole point was that like, or the original pitch had like five seasons. And what they're essentially doing is taking those five seasons and putting it into one. I don't know how it's going to look, but I trust Tony Gilroy and the writers that they've had on Andor so far to make something good.
00:11:59
Speaker
I mean, I don't know how into like Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon you are, but I know for House of the Dragons. OK, so this is going to be when you talk about Marvel for me. So with House of the Dragon, they basically did a progression between episodes with even different actors playing different roles, kind of getting from earlier in their childhood into adulthood.
00:12:22
Speaker
And it worked for the most part in House of the Dragon for me. So after seeing that series, which actually aired funny enough while Andor season one was airing, it's got me feeling a little bit more positive about kind of the jumps between arcs being, you know, a three episode arc being one year throughout the season two. So I'm cautiously optimistic. But season one was just so good. I'm like, I can't imagine they're going to like completely drop the ball.
00:12:51
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. And I mean, like Diego Luna has said, if they went on for five seasons, we would have been seeing what should have been a 21 year old Cassian and or played by like, what, a 60 year old man. So it wouldn't have worked out, honestly, for real.
00:13:10
Speaker
All right, this next one isn't really news, but I think it opens the door for a lot of speculation here.

Takashi Yamazaki's Mandalorian Movie Rumor

00:13:14
Speaker
And it's something that happened this week at Lucasfilm. So Dave Filoni hosted a screening of the new Godzilla movie Godzilla Minus One. And it was at Lucasfilm for the friends and family of Lucasfilm. But the director of Godzilla Minus One, Takashi Yamazaki, was there at Lucasfilm doing the screening.
00:13:36
Speaker
And I think that's very interesting because obviously we know that Dave Filoni has gotten a promotion recently and he's in charge of a lot more. And I think that this is a sign that, I mean, there's just no way. If Dave Filoni wanted to go see Godzilla minus one with Takashi Yamazaki, they would have went to the fucking movie theater. The fact that it's like a whole Lucasfilm event with the friends and family of Lucasfilm leads me to believe that
00:14:03
Speaker
Takashi is going to be working on a Star Wars movie. And not just any Star Wars movie, I think that he's going to work on another Mandalorian movie.
00:14:14
Speaker
Like an like a new one? Yes, yes. Like, OK, so we've heard rumors about how there's three. There may be three Mandalorian movies. We know of two of them. You know, the first one. And then we obviously know Dave Velloni's movie will be the heir to the empire. Huge climactic ending. But if there's a trilogy, what's the second movie going to be? Well, Takashi Yamazaki could come in and direct. And if you think about it,
00:14:42
Speaker
Godzilla minus one. It's a movie about big ass monsters. Yeah, it's a monster movie. Right. And within the Mandalorian timeline, we know that there's a story set up with Grogu and the mythosaur, which is also a giant reptilian creature. So could he be directing a mythosaur movie for the Mandoverse?
00:15:05
Speaker
That's a really interesting take and I kind of like that. We know that Dave Filoni likes his big monsters. There was already the Godzilla reference with the Zillow Beast in the Clone Wars, which he then brought back for the Bad Batch. So like Dave Filoni likes big monster movies. And so it doesn't surprise me that he had the director come in. But like you said, he's clearly flexing his new role at Lucasfilm.
00:15:30
Speaker
Come do this screening. We're going to invite the director of the movie as well. It's going to be a whole thing. And yeah, I think it would make total sense to have somebody who has just made a very well received monster movie come in and help, even if it's not directing, but just help with bringing the mythosaur into Star Wars. We didn't see it for no reason. They teased it for something.
00:15:53
Speaker
And I don't know about you. I thought we'd see it maybe later in season three, but nothing really came of it other than, you know, we just know it's down there. And it was it was a moment like seeing that in season three. I feel like we don't talk about it enough. Everyone's complain about season three, but it could it gave us a mythosaur.
00:16:12
Speaker
Yeah, no, yeah season three sucks total ass, but there are some cool moments like that like the whole idea of you know, bokeh tan, she's walking through the minds of Mandalore and is basically like all this shit's fake. Fuck all of this. Yeah, she's like stories.
00:16:31
Speaker
And then it's like essentially as if Jesus Christ came and knocked on her fucking door and was like, oh, you doubt, you doubt, bitch, like. So imagine imagine coming face to face with a gigantic creature underwater. I think it's the allesophobia or some shit of like big scary things underwater. I remember talking about it when I did my review, which at this point almost feels like forever ago, but
00:16:57
Speaker
Yeah, it would make sense for it would make sense for them to have somebody who's done a big monster movie come in to do something with the mythosaur. And if we don't see the mythosaur again, it's just like, why did we do it to begin with? Yeah, my speculation with the whole Grogu and mythosaur thing has always been that Grogu is basically going to be the new first Mandalorian, because we saw we know that
00:17:22
Speaker
the world.
00:17:40
Speaker
You know, come to think of it, they've been doing big monsters a lot with the Mandalorian. Now I'm thinking about it. We had the the mud horn in season one. We had the crate dragon at the beginning of season two. We had.
00:17:57
Speaker
Lots of creatures in season three, if we think about it, that big scary alligator thing at the beginning, the scary bird things. Oh, there's always a bigger fish moment. Yeah. And then the mythosaur itself. So there's as much as I really don't like the idea of Grogu taming a mythosaur and like doing that whole thing, because I want it to be Bo-Katan. Maybe that's a hot take. Oh, well, but.
00:18:24
Speaker
There's definitely some kind of setup between Grogu and Taming Beasts. Yes. And we know that he probably is going to be like the new Tar Vizsla in the new era because he's a Jedi and Mandalorian. Well, then I need him to not be a fucking baby.
00:18:40
Speaker
Well, maybe he'll grow up. We'll see. I need Grogu to be his own person, not just Mando's son. I wouldn't be surprised if by the next time we see a Mandalorian project, whether it's Ahsoka season two or whatever, that there's going to be a time jump. It's got an hour. Never. So honestly, it's now or never because at this point they weren't able to do it because they needed to build up the imperial remnant. And that's why if you go on the Wikipedia of nine ABY, it's just filled with
00:19:08
Speaker
the battle of the battle of the battle of the battle of it's like holy fuck no way all of that happened in a year but whatever um so i think that they need to do a time jump now and this is kind of their only chance where the story is going to allow them to because if you think about it the imperial remnant needs to build up so yeah maybe they could just build up in the background for five years and then boom
00:19:31
Speaker
Although how much older is that going to make Grogu in Yoda years? Yeah, well, if anything, we've seen Star Wars utilize time jumps really well. So and I miss time jumps like new shade to the sequel trilogy, but I miss time jumps not one year.
00:19:50
Speaker
Years. And I just think it works. It's like a staple of Star Wars, honestly. So if it was an older Grogu who can like do things on his own, who doesn't fucking waddle around or ride in like a stupid IG thing or a little pod. And yeah, I'll be more on board. But like him as a baby, if I have to see his little fucking baby ass riding a mythosaur, I'm going to roll my eyes.
00:20:15
Speaker
No offense to the baby Yoda lovers, but if baby Yoda is on a mythosaur, I'm not going to be into it.
00:20:23
Speaker
And I mean, it wouldn't really make sense either, because we saw at the end of season three, like, Grogu, he's not allowed to take the oath or, you know, Oh, yeah. So he can say it. Yeah. So he needs at least talk before he hops on there. But whatever. I do really think that this Godzilla minus one screening is going to lead to much more than a friendship between Dave Filoni and Takashi Yamazaki.
00:20:50
Speaker
We'll have to see. I mean, I'm into it. I think it could work out really well. But speaking of kind of timelines and mixing things around, one of my favorite things that we saw this week was Star Wars actors meeting other Star Wars actors for the first time.
00:21:07
Speaker
First and foremost, I think the biggest one is probably Luke Skywalker meeting his mother, Padme Hamadalla. We had Mark Hamill and Natalie Portman finally met at the Golden Globes for the first time and they took a photo. I love Mark posted, now I've finally met my mother. So it was just so cute. Did you see that?
00:21:29
Speaker
Yes. And I loved it. It's a long time coming. And I love his use of like the word being like, I think he said somewhere else, like, no way that this beautiful woman would have had been my mother. Like, so I loved that. And then I also saw like the way he worded the tweet talking about I finally met my mother. I saw some of the quotes we did being like, why can't gay people just say that a woman is beautiful? Why did they have to call her mother?
00:21:59
Speaker
It's so funny, too, because I I was wondering if maybe she was going to talk more about it when she did an interview with Jimmy Kimmel a few days later, and she didn't. But she looked fucking stunning. I'm like, not only Portman, she's like always gorgeous.
00:22:17
Speaker
Yes, aging very gracefully. And she talked about how like she's aging naturally, too. So love that. Well, it's it's going really well for me. Yes. I am envious. I can only hope to great or to age maybe a little bit gracefully as much as I can only hope. Yeah. But, you know, I love that. I'm glad they got their photo. And then another fun meetup was animated Ezra Bridger and live action Ezra Bridger.
00:22:46
Speaker
Uh, and this was actually at the Emmy's after party, Disney's after party that they did for it. Uh, Diana Lee in a Santo who plays Morgan Elspeth posted some photos and there was a photo of her and I've on a sock. No, I'm honest. Fondi and Taylor gray.
00:23:01
Speaker
And then she also posted a video and she tweeted it or she captioned it. I spotted dancing Ezra Bridgers. And let me tell you, they looked like they were having a real good time. The Disney after party for the Emmys and Taylor Gray was looking real good. I still myself. I tweeted this the other day, but like he's getting into that kind of like grimy hot like window that like I'm very into. So I was like.
00:23:31
Speaker
Oh, love that as for Bridger looking real good up at the after party. So it was also it was super cute, though, like it's always just fun when like the actors get to meet.
00:23:45
Speaker
Yeah, I can't even imagine the energy within that room of two Ezra Bridgers at once. Probably a little chaotic. No, but it's such a beautiful moment. And obviously I love seeing Amanis Fandi in the Star Wars world. Like he is just a gift from God within the Star Wars fandom. Like just
00:24:03
Speaker
the way that he interacts with everybody, his personality is just so vibrant and I just enjoy his presence. And I too like that these two got to meet and that Taylor Gray was actually at the Disney after party because I know there's a lot of discussion about the disrespect to animation that seems to be coming from Star Wars lately and we know like
00:24:27
Speaker
Ashley Agustin, she wasn't made aware that Ahsoka was coming to live action until it actually happened. And she found out at the same time as everyone else. And we know that like Tia Sakhar, she's not really happy with Lucasfilm lately. You know, that celebration a few years ago, they didn't invite her or any of the animated cast because they were focusing on the live action cast.
00:24:50
Speaker
I mean, I'm not going to lie. I also kind of thought I was like, Oh, Taylor Gray was invited. Like, I'm not going to lie because I'm like, it's not like he's been doing anything. Yeah. There's a Disney project. He's done so.
00:25:03
Speaker
Yeah, and it was the Disney after party and didn't look like he was with anybody else there because he was at least hanging out with the live action Ahsoka crew for a bit because I mean, there's literally footage of it on Instagram, which I highly suggest if you all haven't seen it, please go to Diana Lee in a Santos Instagram because it's so cute. And like I said, Taylor also looks super hot. Yeah. Well.
00:25:29
Speaker
I guess it's time to get into the drama. Neat. Yeah, there was quite a bit of drama this week if you haven't seen about the upcoming Ray movie starring Daisy Ridley, directed by Charmaine Obey Shenoy.

Debunking Rey Movie Delay Rumors

00:25:45
Speaker
We've seen people, they're not very excited about it. We know within the Star Wars fandom, people don't love the sequel trilogy. And with that, there's so much conversation about
00:25:57
Speaker
it being woke or whatever so we uh we saw the manifestation of that this week two years before the movie even comes out so on tuesday there was a rumor floating around that the ray movie would be indefinitely delayed and that the writer stephen knight was leaving out the door quitting
00:26:18
Speaker
uh the rumor was reported by a site called world of real which they don't really report star wars or marvel news um or like yeah i never heard of them right uh they don't really report on anything big budget like stars or marvel it's always lower budget stuff and
00:26:37
Speaker
Apparently, they're pretty reliable with that. So I guess there's that. But the reason that this rumor started to gain some steam was from a known leaker in the fandom called Bespin Bulletin. And Bespin Bulletin basically cited this article saying, Hey, I trust these guys. And it sounds like the Ray movies being indefinitely delayed. And that's even Stephen Knight is
00:27:01
Speaker
exiting the project and he broke it in this article and everything and this of course sent the fandom into a frenzy because add into the fact that a Star Wars movie being indefinitely delayed is not an anomaly.
00:27:17
Speaker
like writers writers leaving right we've heard that plenty of time since at least rogue one so right and it wasn't rumors so so i i i definitely see why people were like so quick to believe this rumor um what was kind of your reaction when you first saw it you know daisy ridley movie being indefinitely delayed
00:27:43
Speaker
I've kind of come to the mindset of anytime there's rumors production wise to take everything with a grain of salt and to not not go 100% one way or the other because it's there's so many moving pieces that we don't really get to see and at the end of the day
00:28:03
Speaker
These are called rumors for a reason, right? Because it's not coming from the official source. So until it comes from the official source, I try not to stress too much about it. However, as a person with anxiety and somebody who, you know, I made a whole video talking about this movie and why I'm excited about it, even as somebody who didn't love the sequel trilogy.
00:28:25
Speaker
who wants this movie to really make me fall in love with these characters, connect with them and with Ray specifically. I am rooting for this movie. Yes. So I'm not going to lie, it did stress me out a little bit. But like I said, I tried to tell myself, just wait because more news will come out if this is truly the case. And I thought, you know, worst case scenario, they'll just get a new writer. Yes. I don't want a Disney writing check.
00:28:51
Speaker
Right, which should be fair. This is already the second writer we've seen for this movie. So like, you know, it's not hard to not hard to replace these people. But obviously the rumor wasn't true. But, you know, before we do that, me too, I was like, oh, come on, come on. Like,
00:29:13
Speaker
I don't love the sequel trilogy. I cannot stand the rise of Skywalker. But like you said, I'm rooting for this movie because for me, I think that just throwing away the character of Rey would be a disservice to
00:29:28
Speaker
the fans to the people who grew up with that trilogy. And it's like giving into the naysayers that have been complaining about quote unquote Disney Star Wars from the beginning. It's almost like giving them what they want. So I'm also rooting for it to work because it's going to be a big fuck you to those people. Exactly. And like disliking Rey is totally fine, which we'll get into that a bit more later. But, you know,
00:29:55
Speaker
when it when it's made into this whole like culture world war thing and woken oh woman agenda feminist agenda blah blah blah it's like no you can hate the character without bringing all this into it so a few hours after this news broke and this rumor was sending the entire star wars twitter into a frenzy uh i-09 reached out to lucasfilm to ask for comment and typically in these situations you hear at the bottom of the article lucasfilm refused comment
00:30:23
Speaker
This time, they did not refuse comment, and they said that the movie is still very much happening, it is not cancelled, and Steven Knight is still writing, he's not exiting the project, he's still here, and the movie will be going into production this year.
00:30:39
Speaker
I mean, like, that's how, you know, like Lucasfilm is they're not fucking around with this movie, because if there was stuff going on behind the scenes, even if, you know, for example, Stephen Knight hadn't left, but if there was drama, they wouldn't have come out and been like, yes, it's happening. Yes. Stephen Knight is still a part of the project and it's going into production this year. Like they were like, no, we're going to clear this shit up right now.
00:31:02
Speaker
instantly shut it down. They see what's going on. Like they have social media teams that pay attention. Right. They're aware of the drama. Yes. And like I said, this whole thing was based on this kind of reactionary thing that we see going on surrounding Ray and the sequel trilogy, because the person that reported it, the writer, I don't want to say their name. That's not what this is about. But basically, why do you go to their Twitter?
00:31:31
Speaker
They're complaining about woke and movies and everything about, you know, the feminist agenda and whatnot. And you see all these tweets and you're like, is that why you made this up and reported it? They're the exact like they're like the typecast of somebody who would make this exact rumor up. They probably were also a part of the rumor when they were trying to say that the acolyte was canceled. Right.
00:31:58
Speaker
It's something that's going to happen probably quite a bit with this movie. People are against it. They don't like it. And we know that it's a part of the whole culture war thing that's been going on for years surrounding Star Wars, Marvel, any franchise, basically. I mean, we see Brie Larson get attacked with Captain Marvel and then, you know, take her shit out of context and make it seem like she's a horrible person. And then when you look into it, she's actually dead.
00:32:25
Speaker
amazing person. And then they would like Rachel Zegler, Snow White. Daisy Ridley was the catalyst of all of this. It all started with Rey. So I mean, it doesn't, it's not surprising that it's come full circle now. And now they're trying to. Yeah. Well, and if we think about it, the whole
00:32:49
Speaker
the whole the drama of it all was built up over the sequel trilogy. So from like 2015 to 2019. But everything that was already built up is now already in place. There's already the foundation for all of this bullshit is what I'm going to call it. The misogyny, the the click bait like.
00:33:11
Speaker
in general, it's all already there. So it's no surprise that it's come out in this full of force of people trying to push that. Here's a reliable source saying that this movie has already been indefinitely delayed. And they know and we know as Star Wars fans, unfortunately, Lucasfilm has this really bad problem of
00:33:31
Speaker
Movies getting delayed, put in an indefinite hiatus. Like, it just happened with Rogue Squadron, the Rian Johnson trilogy that's most likely never happening, but they still won't confirm it. Like, all the pieces are there.
00:33:47
Speaker
Right. The whole thing is based on taking things that are partially true and blowing it up to make it something that it's not like taking clips out of context and making it seem like someone said something different. Or the biggest one that I think about a lot is the way that a lot of people recognize that the quality of Star Wars has gone down with some projects. You know, like, like I said, I can't stand the rise of Skywalker.
00:34:14
Speaker
I really don't like Ahsoka, hated Book of Boba Fett. You know, I dislike those projects, but you are never going to hear me say that those projects were ruined because of a woke agenda or whatnot. Cause that's not what happened. Those movies and shows suck because Lucasfilm, a lot of times Disney and Lucasfilm, they only care about getting Bob Iger a new yacht next year. You know what I mean? Like they just want to make money. And so I feel like that's where a lot of this comes in, where they're,
00:34:44
Speaker
overdoing it, making too much. And these YouTubers, they see that. They see that people are upset by it. And they're like, what if we could convince these people that the quality has gone down because women hate you? You know what I mean? Yeah. I mean, it's rage baiting.
00:35:00
Speaker
Exactly. It's all made up shit and like lies. I mean, we've seen already with the great movie with the director, Charmino Bay Chinoy. People are trying their damnest to shut her down, make her look incredible or uncredible. Like,
00:35:17
Speaker
You know, she can't make a fucking movie or whatever. I mean, yeah, they saw they're downplaying the facts saying, oh, all she makes is documentaries and she hates men. So, of course, that's why she's directing the right movie, the anti man movie, because people are already mad with the whole Mary Sue Wise Ray better than Luke Skywalker bullshit. It's just like this misogynistic pitting women against men. Yeah. And exactly.
00:35:42
Speaker
It leads into this whole thing. I mean, like, Charmino Bay Chinoy. Like, we all saw recently about, oh, Charmino Bay Chinoy, she wants to make men uncomfortable with the Ray movie. And it's like you go and look into what any of that actually means and you see the truth. So I went and looked. Obviously, we all saw that that video going around. She said, I like to make men uncomfortable with her projects. And so I was like, let me go let me go see this actual video for myself.
00:36:12
Speaker
As a normal person would do, they'd be like, oh, let me go figure out what this is from, which is what the people that are using this clip are hoping you don't do. You don't do, yep. Cut out any context, make it seem like she just spoke unprompted, wasn't asked anything. She was just someone who just opened her mouth to be like, fuck, man. No, it's not happening.
00:36:36
Speaker
For a little context, she was doing this panel in 2015, nine years ago, about one of her documentaries based on Pakistani women and the acid attacks that have been going on in Pakistan around that time, specifically targeting women.
00:36:52
Speaker
Over a hundred women were affected by this and who knows if that number was even accurate because a big point of her documentary was that the media doesn't cover what's happening to women in Pakistan. So the whole point is terrible. Exactly.
00:37:07
Speaker
The whole point of that documentary was to bring awareness to what's going on and show people that this is what's happening. This is how they have to deal with it. You know, no one's helping them. And for some reason, when that document came out, a bunch of men.
00:37:24
Speaker
were uncomfortable and were vocal about the fact that they were uncomfortable and didn't like her focusing on this. And so at this panel, the presenter, who might I point out is a man, asked her about this and said, you know, we've seen the comments of people, men saying I'm uncomfortable. You hate men. I couldn't help but notice a thread through each of these that the men were assholes.
00:37:56
Speaker
And I'm wondering, as one of them, what is the balance of activating a force for change, but also trying to permeate that patriarchy, that power structure
00:38:23
Speaker
And is that a part of the calculation of your art as well, and what's been the reaction

Charmaine Obey Chinoy on Provocative Documentary

00:38:29
Speaker
to that? Oh, absolutely. I like to make men uncomfortable. I enjoy making men uncomfortable.
00:38:41
Speaker
Not you, just... Point taken, point taken. But, you know, it is important to be able to look into the eyes of a man and say, I am here, and recognize that. And recognize that I am working to bring something that makes you uncomfortable, and it should make you uncomfortable, because you need to change your attitude. And it's only when you're uncomfortable, when you're shifty, when you have to have,
00:39:10
Speaker
difficult conversations that you will perhaps look at yourself in the mirror and not like the reflection. She likes to make everyone uncomfortable with these documentaries and her activism because uncomfort, discomfort,
00:39:26
Speaker
It makes you want to do something. It makes you want to find comfort. And so in situations like that, yeah, you should be uncomfortable by seeing the fact that Pakistani women are facing fucking acid attacks and getting their faces burnt off. Like who's committing the attacks, not other women.
00:39:46
Speaker
Well, exactly. And so these men feel like it makes them look bad and they're like, I'm uncomfortable. And all she pointed out was that's kind of the point is to be uncomfortable because now you're going to want to do something about it and change it. You're going to question why that's happening when something when you're uncomfortable about something, you're going to be like,
00:40:06
Speaker
why am I uncomfortable about this and kind of get into what's making you what's causing this feeling. And if you're uncomfortable, and you don't like the fact that she's shedding light on this horrific thing that's happening, then
00:40:21
Speaker
Yeah, you should be questioning what's going on. And that's the reason why you're uncomfortable about it. Like it's just insane. And like I said, when you're uncomfortable about something, you're going to start questioning it. And that's the whole point is to question why is this happening and what we can do to stop it. Exactly. And most sane people are going to recognize that that's a good thing. That's a great thing. Yeah. But for some reason, people decided to take this entire thing
00:40:50
Speaker
clip the context posted on Twitter saying that this whole thing was talking about her upcoming Ray movie that she wants to make men uncomfortable with the fucking Ray movie, which like you said, there's already the whole Mary Sue aspect that people don't like about Ray and the feminist agenda. And it just adds fuel to that by being like, look, the director of the next movie. She says she wants to make men uncomfortable because that's what Ray is all about is making men uncomfortable when it couldn't be farther from the truth.

Misogyny in Star Wars Criticism

00:41:21
Speaker
well and once again it's just like why don't you question why you don't like Ray do you not like her because you don't think she is like character wise because of the way she's been brought up is it that or do you not like her because she's a woman and if it's because you don't like her because she's a woman then you need to question
00:41:39
Speaker
why that is because if it's just based on gender that's just misogyny at the end of the day. We're also looking into like are there criticisms I have of Rey that are present in characters like Luke Skywalker and Anakin Skywalker that I didn't judge them for?
00:41:56
Speaker
But when Ray does it, it's fucked up. See that that's what. Exactly. That's that's the whole point. That's the point of it all. And that's like I even said and mentioned before in my own video I made about the Ray movie. I didn't love Ray to begin with.
00:42:12
Speaker
And then I started questioning, why don't I like Ray? So then I started reading ancillary material like Shadow of the Sith, which then made me recontextualize a lot about the sequel trilogy, which now I'm like, I want to love Ray. So that's why I'm excited about this movie, because it gives everybody, not just me, but even these people that hate Ray, it's going to give them another chance to understand Ray more as a character.
00:42:37
Speaker
I mean, I'm hoping so. I can't imagine they wouldn't. But it's like it's almost like they're giving these characters another chance. Exactly. And to to piggyback off off what you said, you can dislike Ray. You can fucking hate Ray if you want to. You can be super skeptical of the movie that's coming up. It's when you start to fall for this culture war bullshit that, oh, it's going to be bad because of Woke and SJW.
00:43:06
Speaker
No, that's you're that's not what's happening here. And, you know, you talked about how Charmito Bay Chanoi, she's known as a documentary filmmaker and she hasn't really done many actual fictional stories, which isn't true. And I'll talk about that in a second. But let's say let's say that Charmito Bay Chanoi has only done documentaries in her life. She's never touched a fictional story ever in her life.
00:43:31
Speaker
You can be skeptical of that. You can be like, how did she get that job? But, you know, like what's going on here? Why would they choose her to direct what was before the next Star Wars movie that needs to be big and bring people back in? Exactly. Why would she get that job? I don't think that that's like an invalid
00:43:52
Speaker
question. It's just when you start to say she was hired because she's a woman. She's hired because she's going to spread an agenda as the director who has to follow the script. That's written by Steven Knight, a man. You know what I mean? You don't see and you don't see people complaining that a man's writing the script.
00:44:11
Speaker
or even really bringing it up which you know that should make them question why there's some out about this whole woman thing and it's like well a man's writing the script so is it really just this like feminist agenda i don't think they'd have a man writing the script if it was some feminist agenda but on top of that it's like i was i remember when little mermaid came out and they had halle bailey playing ariel and
00:44:36
Speaker
of my argument to anybody that would question it I was like did you ever think that Halle Bailey might have just been the best person for the job and that's why they chose her? Like they don't even entertain the idea that that could have been it and that's exactly why the claim that you know people say it's not about misogyny it's just I want a good story I don't want agendas being forced on my throat
00:45:03
Speaker
was was Ariel's race mentioned at all in the Little Mermaid remake? No, she's just a black woman existing. So that kind of, you know, as this whole thing that like they're going to be skeptical of it no matter what. It's not because it's woke. If they see that the upcoming Star Wars film is going to be starring a woman or there's going to be people of color in it,
00:45:27
Speaker
they're automatically calling it woke before they even know anything about the themes of that character how that character acts what they do if any of their identity is mentioned at all which in Star Wars doesn't happen because there's no race in Star Wars you know they don't point out that Rey is a woman you know they didn't point out that Riva was black like
00:45:51
Speaker
Those are things that those characters just existed. And if you didn't like how they turned out, that's because they were bad characters. It's not because they're woke. It's because they were bad characters. And it's so funny you mentioned Riva because I said the same thing. It was like, did you ever think that maybe she was just the best person who auditioned for this role? Like she did the best job of what they were looking for. And I don't think they were like, we're looking for a black woman to play Riva.
00:46:19
Speaker
They were just looking for somebody who could embody the character that was written. And Moses Ingram clearly did that. Exactly. And they talked about the casting process of Riva to begin with. And it wasn't a casting call being like, we're looking for a black woman.
00:46:35
Speaker
It was, we're looking for an actress to complete this role. You know what I mean? Exactly. Yeah, it's just insane. And going back to the, you know, thing about Sharmino Bay Chinoy, just being a documentary filmmaker. If you're someone that genuinely does have that concern, I understand, but to ease your anxiety,
00:46:55
Speaker
She has directed two episodes of Ms. Marvel, and they were the best episodes of Ms. Marvel, if I'm being honest. I'll take your word for it. Really well put together. And she's also directed animated short films. You know, like, it's not like she's never touched a fictional story. Like you said, is it possible that
00:47:17
Speaker
the board of people, Kathleen Kennedy, Bob Iger, everyone else in the room that has to make these decisions. Is it possible that they saw something in her as a filmmaker and were like, let's give you this opportunity?
00:47:32
Speaker
You know what I mean? Exactly. Was she just the best director for the job or for the story that they want to tell? Right. And I hate the idea that like a documentary filmmaker couldn't make a good story because in a documentary, you still have to tell a story. Yeah, the story is non-fictional, but you have to, as the director, be able to put it together in a narrative for. She's not even she's not even writing it, though. So like that could come down to her.
00:48:01
Speaker
Exactly, exactly. Yeah, I just hate that idea that she wouldn't be able to tell a story because it happens all the time with like, OK, Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame are directed by sitcom directors, the Russo brothers. They started off directing sitcoms and how they directed the most successful movie of all time with Avengers Endgame.
00:48:29
Speaker
I mean, I'm just thinking of like Seinfeld and Dave and like to even take it back into Star Wars. Think of Dave Filoni. Yeah. Like where did he start in animation? And now he's a concept artist. And they saw something. They saw something in him which got him to where he is now. If you don't take a chance on people, even taking it back all the way to George Lucas, like
00:48:55
Speaker
If you don't take a chance, you don't know what somebody's capable of until they do it. Yeah. Even the director of Empire Strikes Back, Erwin Kirshner, before he directed Empire Strikes Back, most of his films were documentaries. Well, if we see how that worked out, didn't we? Most people will agree that Empire's the best of the original trilogy. Right. Exactly.
00:49:18
Speaker
So I just wish that people would be more honest about these things. It's so very clear that the people that are saying that they're anti-agenda, anti-woke are the ones pushing this shit. They're the ones that make everything seem like it's woke and so that they can be anti-woke and make all their money on YouTube and get all their clicks and everything.
00:49:41
Speaker
they make millions off of, and it's a whole thing. And then people call us shills for some reason, even though if we were shills, we would have probably just been, come on here and been like, yeah, fuck Charmino Bay, Chinoy, fuck Daisy Ridley, give us our money so we can sign off. Exactly. It'd be a lot easier to talk about what we don't like than trying to explain why
00:50:02
Speaker
We just need to wait and see what happens essentially and not write something off because of some rage baiting and culture war woke agenda, whatever, whatever bullshit they want to throw out at it.
00:50:16
Speaker
right yes exactly and so i just wish that there were like more creators that were honest about like the quality of star wars or like their opinion on it without making it something like that and that's why here on this is the way seekers we're always going to strive to like tell our honest opinion we're not just going to sit here and be like oh my god we loved that episode or oh my god we hated that episode we're going to come on here i'm going to tell you what we think
00:50:41
Speaker
And we're not going to make it into some culture war. We're not going to tell you this is some agenda. Like it's, we're just here to talk about Star Wars at the end of the day.
00:50:51
Speaker
And on top of that, when we are gonna talk about more in-depth things, we're gonna do our research, which I implore everyone to do. Please do your research before you talk about something, especially with this situation is a perfect example. Like we said, this clip from 2015 has been taken so out of context. Ray, I don't even know when this interview went down, like the Force Awakens may not have even been out yet.
00:51:17
Speaker
So that just like, that really puts it into context of like, this came out before we even knew anything really about Ray, other than what the trailer showed us. So please do your research and you can count on that. We will always do our research. Yeah. A hundred percent. Cause.
00:51:35
Speaker
It was so disheartening to like go on YouTube, especially after it had been confirmed that it was fake and just seeing the mountain of videos from even people that I respect just instantly going on to post a video talking about this news without ever looking into it a little bit more. Because, you know, people are just waiting. Right. Wait. Click on that guy's Twitter. Click on that guy's Twitter. See that he clearly already had a fucking agenda.
00:52:03
Speaker
I don't know it. I don't know. But at the end of the day, we're both excited for the rain movie and we hope that even if you're skeptical about it, you know, you go into it with an open mind. Give it a chance. Exactly. Well, now that we're done with all of that drama, let's get into something a little more fun.
00:52:24
Speaker
Yes, let's talk to the way seekers. So like we said last week, every week we're trying to get your comments, tweets, replies, and we're going to answer them on the podcast because at the end of the day, this is a podcast for Star Wars fans by Star Wars fans, as we say in the intro. Exactly. At Crystal Kiber asked why is Star Wars scared of romance?
00:52:47
Speaker
Because Star Wars fans are a bunch of virgins, so they're scared of sex.

Romance in Star Wars: Queer Representation

00:52:55
Speaker
Okay, I don't know if she was asking about sex in Star Wars.
00:53:02
Speaker
You know, there might be some merit to that. We keep talking about Padme and like, that's like one of the greatest love stories in Star Wars. And there is a lot of romance in Star Wars, but I also feel like something that we've talked about plenty of times before, they're scared of queer romance. So I could talk to that all day long. Like we see felons sent to touch hands once.
00:53:25
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, that's why I feel like Crystal says like they're scared of romance here. And I agree. Like they they have those two characters are obviously in a relationship, but they just like slightly allude to it. I feel like there hasn't been anything as major as like Han and Leia in a long time. Actually, matter of fact, Han is the one character that gets any romance in Star Wars if you think about it, because he got Kira too.
00:53:54
Speaker
And the only other one I could think of is Reylo, which I feel like Reylo is more an outside of Star Wars thing because if you look at Reylo through the lens of just the sequel trilogy, this is so incohesive. Well, the romance of it all is implied in the films, whereas it's taken on a new life outside of the films. I'm trying to think of other romances
00:54:21
Speaker
I think Andor, you know, hinted at, well, I guess it's not really romance. This is going back to the sex thing. But Dix and her little boyfriend, when, you know, they slept together clearly and she was like getting dressed after like the work day after, you know, they did the deed. And I'm like, I almost kind of wish we saw a little bit more of that because it's not necessarily romantic, but it's more of like
00:54:47
Speaker
And maybe I'm taking Crystal's question out of context, but like, where's just relationships in Star Wars? Yeah. More of that. And it doesn't have to be this grandiose, like, you know, across the stars or Anakin Padme, you know, kissing where she's like, before I die.
00:55:06
Speaker
Right. My thing is, I just wish that they weren't so wishy washy with it. Because I feel like they're trying to please both crowds. Like Din and Bow, for example, Mando season three. I know you don't love it, but I feel like they rode the line. They were riding the fence way too much.
00:55:24
Speaker
because there's parts where it's like, oh, maybe they are romantic. Like there's some scenes where they're like a little close or whatever. And then there's obviously hella stuff where it's like, oh, maybe they're not. And I'm just like, I wish they would have just made a decision and been like, they're either platonic or they're not.
00:55:43
Speaker
You know, I think we've been baited by Crystal because you know what she's talking about. And I think about it. She's talking about Din and Bo because she ships them. She's talking about Cassian and Jin because she ships them. That's what she's talking about. We see you, girl. Friend of the channel. Love you. But friend of the pod. But I see what you did.
00:56:06
Speaker
Yeah. All right. And the last one comes from Stardust Records, another podcast friend of the show. They ask if you had to choose a Star Wars movie to star in based off just the cast, who would you pick and why?

Star Wars Cast: Fun and Chemistry Choices

00:56:23
Speaker
So basically what cast in Star Wars would you want to join? And this is and they ask about a movie specifically.
00:56:31
Speaker
Oh, I guess they do say movie. That sucks because my answer is going to be the Ahsoka cast because they have so much fucking fun. Oh, well, now I'm like. In universe, a part of the cast or out of the universe, a part of the cast. I feel like you're right first to like outside, but.
00:56:53
Speaker
I mean, I guess you're right. The Ahsoka cast, all that behind the scenes stuff that we saw, they looked like they had a good time. So I'd probably be right with you there. But now I'm trying to think of films. And because I took the question as in universe. And for me, I was kind of thinking the solo cast.
00:57:16
Speaker
Oh, they are a fun group of characters for sure. And it's all very sarcastic humor like between Lando and Han and Kira like when they go on the mission together, just the chaos and I feel like I could be
00:57:34
Speaker
I feel like I would fit into that scenario in universe. I mean, I don't think it's the best scenario, but I'm like the way that I am and like how I go about things. I see me as a part of that cast.
00:57:48
Speaker
Yeah, I'd have to agree with you there like solo great cast Well, this is how we do a podcast together then But if it in terms of like outside if it was just a specifically a movie and the actors and actresses and

Everybody seemed to be friends with Daisy Ridley now that I think about it because Donald Gleason who plays Hux like they all they have millions of pictures together and it looks like the most fucking fun ever.

Yeah. And I just want to talk shit with Carrie Fisher. Oh, yes. Oh, my God. I miss her. I miss her, too. It's so funny because when you started talking about out of universe, I'm thinking about there's just that like video of like them dancing or something from The Force Awakens like behind the scenes or something. And I'm like, oh, yeah, I could tell they had fun. Let's get to look at Adam Driver.

Oh my God. How did I forget John Boyega and Daisy Ridley? The best of best friends. Like, I still remember the song that they came up with. That's like, we're out in the desert and we're shooting Star Wars. I can't remember how the rest of it goes, but it was so cringe, but so funny. And this is how you know that you were in the fandom at that point in time. And I was not because I have no idea what you're talking about.

Make sure you follow us on social media at WaySeeker's Pod or wherever you get your podcast so you never miss an episode. And hopefully we'll be seeing each other again to talk about the Bad Batch trailer. But for now, thank you all so much for listening. And as always, may the force be with you. Bye.
