Introduction and Series Reflection

00:00:00
Speaker
So, as we talked about last week on the podcast, Skeleton Crew really set itself up to have one of the best Star Wars finales in all of Star Wars Disney Plus TV show history. Now that episode 8 is here and we've seen all of Skeleton Crew, Scotty, did Skeleton Crew perfectly stick the landing? Well, let's talk about it.
00:00:28
Speaker
Welcome back to This is the Wayseekers, a podcast for Star Wars fans by Star Wars fans. My name is Austin SWE. I'm joined with my first mate Scotty Holiday for the last time in our Skeleton Crew era. It's been a journey, seven episodes of the podcast, eight episodes of the show. Scotty, how are you feeling now that we've seen the entirety of Skeleton Crew?

Finale Impressions and Themes

00:00:51
Speaker
I feel like I'm in love. hu I just feel blown away. I'm full of wonder and hope and joy. Yes. So, yeah, I like the episode, I guess. That makes sense. That makes sense. It was a very whimsical episode. um I think it definitely fell in line with the rest of the series and the whimsical nature.
00:01:14
Speaker
and the childlike nature of the show. I also enjoyed the finale. There is part of me that's like, maybe I set my expectations a little too high. Oh, I loved it. So it happens when you set expectations. Exactly. But I loved it. I loved it. I think my biggest thing is there's a part of me that when it all ended and it was said and done, I was like,
00:01:40
Speaker
That's it. That's that's all we got. Interesting, because I I scrolled a little bit online after the episode because, you know, as one does after I unmuted on my app notifications and I was like seeing that other people were kind of saying like, oh, it kind of ended And they're still like, OK, so what happens? Surprisingly, I felt very like resolved with the ending of the show. I felt like everything kind of came together in this culmination that was really satisfying to me. I mean, of course, there's still more story they can tell and it's set up that way. But for example, to compare it to the acolyte, which we know that that was set up so that they could continue the story. But they said season one would be self contained. Right. That felt like it was left.
00:02:29
Speaker
I didn't feel of

Unresolved Questions and Future Speculations

00:02:30
Speaker
resolve with that. I felt like the story was just beginning. This story, the adventure is complete, but there's still more adventures we can go on. I feel like that's the best way to put it. Yeah, and that definitely makes sense. And I even wrote in my notes, like, overall, they resolved the conflicts that were set up. The kids are back on Aten. The great work, the mystery of that is kind of answered and also dismantled, which we kind of You know wanted to happen. um But I also I'm glad you brought up the acolyte because I think that there's a huge. That's a huge part of why I'm not 100% satisfied with this conclusion, because there's still so much.
00:03:11
Speaker
that needs to be answered. Jod's backstory, we got a little tiny bit of what could have you know happened there, but I want to know more. We don't really know what happened to Jod. In fact, they kind of set up that there's more to him because in his final shot, he kind of smirks as if this was all part of his plan or something. He does oddly repeat multiple times like it doesn't have to be this way, it doesn't have to go this way like this wasn't when I planned. So you're on to something, I think. And then, you know, we get all these reports recently that Skeleton Crew is the lowest watched show of all of Star Wars on Disney Plus. We know what that meant for the Acolyte. ah So there's like a part of me that's like
00:03:59
Speaker
Are we going to continue and get those things? There is a plus side though. We've been complaining this entire time that Skeleton Crew is part of the Mandoverse. If there's no direct season two to Skeleton Crew, I still think it's likely that we'd see these characters pop up and there is a space for them, especially with the way the New Republic came in at the end. And we see Wim kind of yearning to be a pilot or, you know,
00:04:26
Speaker
something along those lines so I think we're still going to get those things but I don't know I also just worry because John Watts talked about a season two in the past and how they're not gonna go the stranger things route and pretend that time hasn't passed you know these are child actors they've grown up But that means we're not gonna see like directly what happened next with Jod. We're not gonna see directly what happened next with Atten and how things are

Continuation in Other Media

00:04:55
Speaker
resolved. You know, the Great Barrier is is fucking gone. it's It's no longer there. The Great Work, it was it was all bullshit basically. It's all ran by a droid.
00:05:05
Speaker
And one person was able to take it all out. We're not going to get to see the direct fallout of that if we're going to have like a three year time jump. So I don't know. Well, how Star Wars is that, though? Like it's very Star Wars in the sense that like it ends and we don't get to see what happens after, but we get a skip in time and see where things are following that.
00:05:26
Speaker
And I feel like that's quite essential to ah the Skywalker saga, specifically like the prequels in the original trilogy with those large time gaps in between movies. And I kind of I kind of love that Star Wars does that. And I want to see more of it. I feel like we're on way not way different pages with this, but I feel like we're both looking at this finale in different ways. And I'm glad because I think we're going to have very fun things to talk about.
00:05:53
Speaker
yeah that that's for sure that's for sure so do you think that we will get a season two of skeleton crew you know knowing the viewership do you think because i mean this show was very well received from the people that did watch it do you think like the negative backlash has more impact on whether a show gets renewed or not or do you think it's all viewership They'll say it's viewership all day long, but I don't believe it. I fully feel the same I fully believe on top of the viewership with the acolyte, if they even give us the real numbers because, you know, the streaming services don't like to do that. um I definitely think the vitriol ah definitely contributed to that show getting canceled. right Honestly, as much as I would love a season two to skeleton crew and I love the idea of them jumping forward,
00:06:43
Speaker
Mm hmm. I don't feel like I need it either, though. Like I liked this story a lot, but I don't feel like I feel like I'll be satisfied even if I don't get more of this specific story. You mentioned the characters popping up in different places in the timeline, which I'd love to see. But I don't necessarily feel like I need this story continued as much as I would love to see it continued.

Thematic Analysis and Milestones

00:07:05
Speaker
And as we see just from like the behind the scenes interviews, the kids are already like way older looking and sounding. Right.
00:07:13
Speaker
It's insane, like the difference. So I like the idea of revisiting them when they're actually aged up later in the timeline. It's way more believable. But I didn't think about any of the like the cynical mindset of, oh, well, we saw what happened then. Could this happen with this show? I guess I'm still riding the high. Yeah. And I'm I'm glad, you know, you know me, I'm always the the negative Nancy here that's like, well, you know,
00:07:42
Speaker
Didn't go well before, but I don't know I think I think I'm excited for what could happen. And I agree. I think that fan reception is a huge factor. And I think Star Wars really wants to have a better reputation. And so a show like Skeleton Crew that was well received, I think they're willing to take the risk and do a season two, which I think could actually work really well. You know, we may not see the direct fallout of at Atten, but it's not impossible to do a
00:08:14
Speaker
three years later and we see how they operate. You know, everybody's got different jobs now that maybe helps out the New Republic or or something like that. Or, you know, Atten becomes a New Republic capital or, you know, so something, you know, and anything can happen, really. The Senate gets hosted on at Atten for one rotation, you know. Right. where they And honestly, though, what I would love is just all the connected storytelling. Give us a book. Give us a comic like they can continue the story of these series in ancillary material, which Star Wars has always done. And some of that ancillary material can go way deeper than these little eight episode shows can go or one movie can go. So, yeah, I'll take it all. Exactly. Star Wars is a vast universe.
00:09:03
Speaker
Before we continue this podcast episode, we just wanted to give a huge, huge fucking thank you to our audience, because this is the way Seekers just hit 400 subscribers on YouTube. Yes, we're so thankful and we're so grateful. And if you haven't already, please consider subscribing to join us for all of our future Star Wars content, because we've definitely got stuff coming up post skeleton crew as well. And now back to the

Episode 8 Highlights and Strategic Importance

00:09:29
Speaker
episode.
00:09:29
Speaker
So interestingly enough, the episode picks up right where we left off from episode seven. And we see the fallout that happens as soon as John ignites that lightsaber. And he puts on his little act and he's like, yes, I'm the emissary from the Republic. But he goes kind of dark immediately and is like, you all.
00:09:49
Speaker
ruined this operation and this is a big breach in security. So you need to go to your homes and I'm going to put you under surveillance. But we all know it's because he just wants to get the credits and do what he wants to do. Obviously. And that ends up with him taking Fern and her mother with him to meet the supervisor, the person of the hour, the person we've all been questioning this entire series person.
00:10:14
Speaker
I was going to say it turns out they are not a person at all. um They are a droid, if you could even call it that. It almost feels more like a server, like a big server room. And then there's just like ah a Google Home Assistant that's controlling all of that. And what did you think of that reveal? Were you let down that there wasn't a big reveal or that it was kind of this Wizard of Oz droid mesh?
00:10:38
Speaker
I liked it. I liked it. And as I said in previous episodes, I knew that whatever Atten had going on, it wasn't secure. All it took was one singular person to come in, stab the droid in the eye. And that's Atten right there. That's it the all. yeah Everything was dismantled right then and there. Jod was able to take control over it. But I liked it. I thought it was it was very.
00:11:09
Speaker
It made a lot of sense, but then it also leads to more questions where I'm like, okay, so who benefits from at, at, and you know, at this point, right? Because was, but like, was there someone in charge? Was there a human supervisor? Is this a scenario where they uploaded their brain or something to a computer and now they're a droid forever?
00:11:34
Speaker
I don't know. i'm I'm like, what is going on here? Is this actually put in place to protect the people of Aten? Because yeah, they have all this money, but they're all compacted to Atten. They're not able to leave Atten. So is this really just a way to protect the citizens? Was there never anything actually sinister going on here like we thought? True. Well, and the supervisor and I wrote down this quote literally says strict obedience to authority has kept Atten running smoothly for generations. So they've been doing this song and dance for generations.
00:12:10
Speaker
And something that I found really telling was in the moment that the supervisor kind of catches on to Jod's lie. He's like, well, last I heard from the last time we heard from the Republic, they said the Jedi were all traitors. Right. And so at that point, it's like, OK, so they haven't heard from the Republic in.
00:12:31
Speaker
like 30 years I was gonna say yeah like 30 years but they've just continued on with their daily lives living in ignorant bliss and their security dystopian state it right it is yeah i love that you bring that up because it's like who are they really benefiting from all 1 139 vaults like what are they doing with these credits just making them endlessly for nothing right it could be a case where if there's a season two the higher power that does actually benefit from the at an agenda comes in and is pissed at the kids and then also JOD what if that ultimately leads the kids to having to work with JOD again or they have to team up against the higher power
00:13:22
Speaker
I could see that or it could end up in a situation where the kids have to hunt down Jod after he makes his eventual escape because he's working for the banking clan now. Oh Lord. Oh Lord. I thought we were done with that. I wasn't even going to mention the banking clan in an attempt to not embarrass you. No, I'm just kidding.
00:13:41
Speaker
hey the story is not over we don't know all the answers but and see and we're already thinking of ways they could do a season two and continue this story and i think that's telling right and the people in charge are like a thousand times more creative than we are so i'm sure it'll be if we can come up with that imagine what they could come up with at least we know that this team is competent with their writing with their direction their actors oh my god i didn't even get to talk about this in the intro but there were so many scenes in this that had me on the verge of tears
00:14:17
Speaker
Oh, same. I mean, when the pirate game, the pirate game comes in attacks at Aten, it feels so real. Like I can't I can't keep watching this shit and not feel something because my jaw drops like right literally because we literally see these things happening in real life now, like just scrolling through Twitter. So it's like, oh, my gosh, it's like actually so hard to watch in Star Wars. um But it's also, you know,
00:14:43
Speaker
it's very it's It's very impactful because if you can feel this way over fictional people and fictional characters in fictional locations. Surely you can care about the real world. Or at least you should. Right. And Star Wars always does a great job at that, especially this show. I mean, think about the episode we had with KB, you know, two episodes ago and episode six, you know, Skeleton Crew, like I've said before, has that Star Wars charm, you know, giving commentary on things that actually matter through this fictional universe um and and giving us these lessons. But it was fucking hard to watch.

Character Arcs and Team Evolution

00:15:22
Speaker
I have to laugh because literally the things that bringing you to tears were not the things that were bringing me to tears. It was literally like the moment with like Fern reassuring her mom that there were still good people in the galaxy. We had Neil like being brave like as soon as the power went out when him and KB show up on their bikes.
00:15:41
Speaker
And he was like, Come on, we got to go. His little role in this school after he like falls off his bike. Yeah. KB's mom's being like, Oh, my God, you can do this, KB. You can fix anything like even Wendell just like wanting to join in on the adventure. There are so many moments. Yes. It just made me smile. The moment when the X-wings finally come at the end like. Oh, yeah. It's so Star Wars. It's like when I cried during Rogue One at the Battle of Scarif. It's just because I'm like, this is my thing. Right. Yeah, it's absolutely it's absolutely my thing. I felt the same way in a lot of those moments. And I think that the common denominator here is that everything is very Star Wars and the things that made us emotional are very, very Star Wars. Oh, yeah.
00:16:28
Speaker
I'm glad you brought up Wim's dad because he was kind of a standout character for me. He had a few cringe moments, like a few cringe dialogue moments. Like, son, you were talking to a level seven systems coordinator. Oh, my God. I love that. It felt so MCU to me like he's right behind me, isn't he? Like, that's that's all I can think about. Really? It literally made me think of my stepdad when he pulls out his like government security badge and he's like, right, I have a badge. And I'm like,
00:16:57
Speaker
Dusty, be quiet. If you're listening, Dusty, love you. But it was very that. It was very, like, dad joke, like, you don't think I can do this? Of course I can do this. Right. And I think Wim's dad is meant to be a little cringe, a little nerdy. And awkward. Right.
00:17:13
Speaker
but i liked it because i really liked his role in this episode because you know he is that like awkward you know kind of like fear from inside out a little bit where you know he's not fucking with any of this but then as soon as they get on the bikes and go over that cliff he had so much fun he was acting like a kid and it was like A great reminder of what this series was at the end of the day, which was a whimsical adventure. And yeah, there's all this fucked up shit going on. But the thing that drove these kids to continue was their imagination, was their childlike wonder, where they were able to look at this as a very fun mission. And so it was kind of fun seeing the light switch you know go off for Wim's dad, where he's like, I get it now. like
00:17:59
Speaker
Yeah, we got to we got to fucking get out there and and save the day, you know. So I love I love to win his dad in his moments. And going back to talking about episode six again, we saw everybody kind of take their role in what they excelled at. and kind of do that in this episode. I almost feel like we saw a little bit of the not the inverse of that in this episode, but it seemed like everybody kind of took on a role that wasn't their usual role. Like Neil got to have some action. He got to man the gun this time around. KB was the leader. Like she was in the driver's seat of the hover bike, which I loved for her. I was I felt like one of her moms i was like, I'm so proud of you looking You're leading the group. You're saving the day. She flew the ship. She fixed SM-33. We got Wim just being like the emotional support. And I almost feel like Wim was very grounded in this episode yeah ah to the point where he's he's barely can make up a good believable story just to distract Jod. Even Jod's like, you really got to work on your tales here. right
00:19:03
Speaker
Like I feel like everybody they learned from each other and took all the things that they learned throughout the series and they really got to implement it. And who was the one in danger? Fern. She was the one in danger for the majority of the episode and she was usually the headstrong one. So it was just really nice to see how all the kids really benefited from each other and took everything that they learned on their adventure and really put it to the test both individually and as a group in the end.
00:19:31
Speaker
Right. I didn't even think about that aspect, but you're 100% right. You know, they all learned from each other. And it, it's funny to look back because if you remember episode one, they didn't even want anything to do with each other. You know, there was Fern and KB and Neil and Wim and they were absolutely not on the same page. They were forced into this and now they're inseparable. You know, they're learning from each other.
00:19:56
Speaker
And yeah, there was a lot of character moments where it felt full circle. Like you said, we had Neil in the Gunner, but from, was it episode four, where they, you know, went to at Akron and Neil had all those moments of like, we don't need to fight, you know? And he kind of, I think has learned that there's moments where you do have to fight, you know? It's just like the last Jedi Rose Tico's line. It's not about fighting what you hate, but saving what you love. Sometimes that involves fighting.
00:20:26
Speaker
I couldn't even, you could even say he wasn't actually fighting. He was defending his friends and the people he cared about. Exactly. And ultimately sometimes that is needed. you know So yeah, I really liked that. Another thing I really enjoyed is I've talked about in previous episodes how I was waiting on the Kim moment to come to fruition and KB finally make that call out to Kim that, you know, Kim said, and you

New Republic's Influence

00:20:56
Speaker
need anything. I'm there. She sent in the new Republic and oh my God, seeing the new Republic, the fucking B wings. ah That was my moment where I'm like, hell yeah. Harrison doula shout out Quarry. I fucking love that rebels episode. like
00:21:11
Speaker
genuinely in my top five Rebels episodes. I love Corey. I'm still pissed of whoever made up that rumor that he was going to be in the Ahsoka series because no the fuck he was not. And I was very excited to see him as the only fan of that episode, but No, that's a great episode. And I loved that. I know this wasn't technically our first live action appearance of the B wings, but like it was the first live action appearance from the first time around because they were only inserted in special editions for Return of the Jedi. Exactly. And I don't think they they shoot.
00:21:50
Speaker
or they like do their lasers like they do in the rebels episode in return of the jedi but in skeleton crew you saw like the red beams light up from the tips and then shoot off it was exactly like in rebels so i love to see that too and i was surprised i thought literally back to return of the jedi and i was like oh they couldn't have these because they were too skinny so they didn't show up on the screen but now we're at a point where we're having these b wings in live action being badass on top of that. um They could have easily just had Y-Wings, but they said, why would a bomber make sense in this? We're going to have an actual fighter along with the X-Wings. And then, of course, we get the the Tan to V Corellian Corvette or whatever the official name is for it coming at the end. And it just that also felt like a little bow on top.
00:22:39
Speaker
yeah and i think what's interesting about seeing the new republic is the way that the pirates are genuinely fucking terrified of the new republic even though they have a giant ship and all these guns and they could probably put up a good fight against the new republic i think it's so interesting seeing them fear them because in their mind the new republic and the rebellion took out the galactic fucking empire so in their mind they're like what chance do we have if the empire was taken down so i think that's just a very interesting position that the new republic is in with the galaxy because we see from asoka that they're kind of in disarray they don't exactly know what they're doing and we see that in mando season three as well but
00:23:26
Speaker
they still benefit from the fact that they defeated the Empire. So the rest of the galaxy either is terrified of them or you know fears them in a good way where it's like, yeah, you know where we have the New Republic to protect us. And so I'm very scared to see how that turns into the first order.
00:23:46
Speaker
yeah Very true and I'm glad that you brought that up because it makes me think where a couple episodes ago I was saying like I want to see more of the New Republic I feel like they don't really have a presence I did feel like in this episode they really felt like they had a presence like they came to save the day it was almost in a similar vein to when the Resistance arrives on Takadana and the Force Awakens and how like they just come in and swoop in and just literally save the day from the wreckage. And I really loved that moment. And I was glad that the New Republic actually felt like they could do something.
00:24:22
Speaker
and that they were capable and obviously that's different than like you're talking about the pirates in universe they're terrified because they know they defeated the empire but us to the audience looking in we're like oh we know where they end up so how competent are they but yeah they literally saved the day and and i love to see it Yeah. It's just funny to see the way that both times the New Republic has shown up, the pirates genuinely don't even try. They're only worried about escaping at that point. like like they They don't even try to fight back. It's so funny to see.
00:24:56
Speaker
Another thing I want to talk about when we kind of mentioned it before is Jod's little reveal about having a master. I have a theory because I think oo you know everybody's first thought was order 66 because he says His master found him when he was begging for scraps, found him in a hole, was only able to train him for a little bit before they hunted her down. I think Kim specifically saying they hunted her down. I don't think he's talking about clone troopers in Order 66. I think it's possible that Jod was found after Order 66 from an Order 66 survivor, and she was tracked down by Inquisitors.
00:25:37
Speaker
That's clo exactly what I thought. I was like, Oh, look at us on the same page. I was like, not that they tracked her down and like killed her right in front of him, because that doesn't sound like clone troopers. That sounds exactly like what we've seen of the inquisitorious and their horribly brutal, traumatic deaths and experiences that they have had on their own that they then put on to other people.
00:26:02
Speaker
And yeah, and I literally pictured him like when Saw Gerrera finds Jhin in Rogue One. I just pictured, because he said he's in a hole, and she found him, and I was just like, not little Jon in a hole begging for scraps, and then yeah that I find him. But no, I didn't think about the fact that it would have been an Order 66 survivor, but my mind immediately did go to Inquisitors as well.
00:26:24
Speaker
And I think that would make for a really great Inquisitor story yeah um with an unexpected tie into skeleton crew.

Speculations on Jod and Wim

00:26:32
Speaker
But that's just talking about ancillary material. Like there's so many fun places they could go. Absolutely. It also could be a Jedi that we know, possibly. Like we know Jocasta Nu, for example, survived Order 66. Did we see her die in the comics or? Yeah, Darth Vader kills her. Right. After she does like the lightsaber gun.
00:26:53
Speaker
Right. I wonder if there's like a opening in there for her to be the one to find Jod. I don't know. It doesn't really matter. But, you know, it's cool because I think everybody's thought even, you know, before Skeleton Crew came out and we found out Jod was force sensitive and a Jedi was that he's an Order 66 survivor. So it's kind of a nice little twist that like he possibly wasn't an Order 66 survivor. And then like he wasn't even a part of the order ah prior to their destruction. Yeah, which would explain his like minimal force abilities like you didn't see in this episode. He can barely fend off between two grown adults between Wendell trying to grab the lever and, you know, Farah trying to not Farah. I'm sorry. Wim trying to hold the lightsaber back and literally Fern and Wim could hold it back from him like.
00:27:46
Speaker
So when we've seen him do these little force feats before, but never really in in in an action setting, it was just more about, I'm going to pull this object to me, not in this, like where he's doing it for defense. And I think it all lines up together. Exactly. theory Because even when he wields the lightsaber, it's like it's heavy. It's You know, I saw one of our friends, Jonah Edward, make a tweet about how Jod, you know, he he couldn't have been a Jedi because he barely knows how to handle the lightsaber. And that explains it. You know, he was only trained for a very short amount of time um and and didn't get to to learn very much. And even then, that was years ago. Who knows if he's picked up a lightsaber since then. So I like the attention to detail.
00:28:35
Speaker
Yeah, me too. And I think the way that he just clutch or clutches onto it to once he gets it and like has that moment where he ignites it when the screen cuts to black, it almost makes me feel like he never even had his own lightsaber. Right. This is literally like the first time he's really gotten his hands on one that he could own his own, not like his Master whoever they were who even knew if they had a lightsaber, you know anybody well now it's whims lightsaber and i my Stands where he could possibly Train as a Jedi I started thinking about how things could go, you know within the mando verse context Because we know we have the Ahsoka side of things, you know It's totally possible that Ezra Bridger and whim find each other. I think it's an obvious continuation that whim will
00:29:27
Speaker
be revealed to be force sensitive or maybe similar to Sabine where he just has like a little bit or it's it's possible for him to have some force sensitivity. We'll see where it goes. I think these kids have a place in the future. Like I said before, I think we're going to see them in the new Republic. Um, you know, I think we'll see some of the parents and some of the citizens of at at and join the new Republic and fight the big fight as part of the bigger galaxy.
00:29:57
Speaker
Oh yeah, I could totally see Farrah and Fern moving to Coruscant and Farrah working in that little office that we saw in the Mandalorian. lab yeah you ah She's an undersecretary, so let's make her an upper secretary. right up yeah like It would just work out perfectly. She's fit for that role. Yeah, absolutely.
00:30:19

So before we get into our final ratings for this episode, the last thing I wanted to mention is actually the last thing that happens in the episode, which is the ending credits.

Artistic Presentation in Finale

00:30:30
Speaker
Oh, yeah.
00:30:31
Speaker
Oh, yeah I loved the ending credits and how they were literally the scenes from whims hollow reader. Plus, I think some other ones that we hadn't seen. So I love that they were fully designed. Yeah, I love the art the way the artwork was done in the art style. So shout out to whoever made those pieces. um But on top of that, it made me think about how this series and the Ahsoka series had these gorgeous like ending credits that I'm like, damn, the streaming era has really messed things up because I would love to see these credits at the beginning of the episodes that way more people can appreciate and enjoy them because they're really pretty. I mean, especially the Ahsoka one, but then this one just fit like the vibe of Skeleton Crews so well, like being in the fairy tale or the myth, the legend. like
00:31:22
Speaker
being there in it. I loved it and I wish that more people get to see that and that even if they used it for every end of every episode of the series but it was just for the finale. I think it worked well for the finale because I don't know if you noticed but they had all the ones that we saw Wim flipping through but the very last one was the kids on top of the Onyx Cinder taking off. And I thought that was very cool because it's like Wim was added to the fairy tales and stories that he loved all along. So it just came full circle that, you know, because I mean, that was kind of the obvious point of the whole series was like Wim becoming the hero he always yearned to be. But it was it was very cool to to see that like,
00:32:06
Speaker
fully, you know, fully realize that he was added to the storybook. um You know, that's such a good point. I didn't even think about that. And to counter that point, what if they did that and added a new scene at the end of every episode? But I do think that having him end like the ending and of the final like scene that we see from the hollow reader is literally him being in the stories and tales that he's heard about. I didn't catch that. So I love that you pointed that out.
00:32:34
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. um One thing that I wanted to mention before we get into the ratings, I don't know if you thought about this, but you're the one that had the theory of, would there be a New Republic representative coming to Atten? So when we saw the ships come in, like the tantive ship, I don't know what exactly that ship is called, but It's the one that's similar to the Tantive 4 from A New Hope. You mean the Tantive V? Yeah, the Tantive V. The official way to say her name. Oh, okay.
00:33:09
Speaker
I was like, oh, God, are we going to see Leia Organa or are we going to see Representative Jar Jar Binks? I love it. Two things we could pull from the Scotty Holiday theory hat. um True. Because you said Leia Organa and Jar Jar Binks were the possible ones. We didn't see it. But then once at the end when they were zooming out of the credits and we saw like the actual storybook, like, oh, God, are they going to zoom up and pan up? And then it's Harrison Dula talking to Wim. And it's like an Avengers moment where Wim is being recruited to the Avengers or the New Republic.
00:33:45
Speaker
You don't even know. I was waiting for one of those X-Wing pilots to be Mary Elizabeth Winston's green ass in ah in an X-Wing. I was like, oh, God, please don't do it. This has been so tasteful. Right. You know, something I just realized, we never got the reveal of Tak Renan.
00:34:06
Speaker
I mean not that it it like matters but it was weird in that episode when they hit his face that I'm like I wonder why they did that but we talked about that before where it's like who really could be who could it be that would make it shocking and surprising that wouldn't feel cheap maybe that's something that comes up again in season two I don't know I also think Tak Renaud was one of the skeletons on the ship in episode one I think that's another perfect jumping off point for a season two adventure following something that Tak Renaud did because they found something on the planet. You know what I mean? Like yeah following in his footsteps, kind of like ah with Cal in Jedi Fallen Order where he's following in the footsteps of Cordova. Imagine if they pulled out with Tak Renaud though and they followed in his footsteps and then come to find out he's still alive. Right. Yeah. I think I think you're on to something. I think that that would be really cool to see.

I'll make it my next video on my channel. There we go. WaySeeker's exclusive news for the Scottie Holiday channel. The WaySeeker's think tank here. Well, something I want to start doing for all the shows going forward is doing an overall rating of the entire series. So the way we're going to do this is I have my rating out of five stars. You have your rating out of five stars. And then we'll take the average of that and that'll be the official WaySeeker's rating.
00:35:33
Speaker
you know We're trying to be like IGN here.
00:35:38
Speaker
um Personally, I rate it four out of five stars. That is very good for a Star Wars series to me. you know It hits so many marks that I needed it to hit. It hit so many marks that I didn't even know I needed to hit, but they did.
00:35:56
Speaker
And I just I loved it. I dock off one point because there's some things like I'm still not 100% sure if I love the way it ended. I like the way it ended but I don't know if I love it. There's some other things too that you know I've talked about in previous episodes some criticisms I've had. So it wasn't by any means perfect but compared to all the other shows I don't think it has much competing with it besides Andor. I think it's the second best Star Wars show. So, four out of five stars for me.
00:36:27
Speaker
I thought about this all throughout the time we were recording to figure out exactly what I was going to do. And I think in the end of the day, I'm going to give it a five. I'm going to give it five stars. And I was going to give it a four point five. But then I was like, it just felt so Star Wars to me. And the amount of time that was just smiling at the screen and just really like feeling like I was a part of this adventure, getting to know these characters. Seeing everything pay off the fact that I don't feel like I need more of their stories Of course, I'd love to see it. But like this story just felt It was just wrapped up so nicely I've and it just looks so great and there was peril and danger but there was like happiness and joy and love and growth and It was just very Star Wars to me quintessential everything I love in a Star War and we didn't even need a lightsaber Which is hilarious because my favorite Star Wars movie is the same way. Yep
00:37:25
Speaker
Rogue one of those that don't know. So yeah, I'm going to give it five stars. I love it. I

Conclusion and Future Plans

00:37:32
Speaker
love it. So that makes the official way seekers rating of Star Wars skeleton crew four and a half stars, which, you know.
00:37:40
Speaker
We came back to this podcast being like, oh, God, me, I'm going to be so damn negative about Star Wars. I fucking hate this franchise now. So it's just crazy to see that over the last eight weeks, I've had this show that's just made me remember why I love this franchise so much to begin with. And I think it's a great way to start off the podcast and where we're going to be going with it.
00:38:04
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. i I mean, I already tweeted this, but like the show brought joy and wonder back to Star Wars, not only to the universe itself, but I feel like.
00:38:15
Speaker
in our world, in the fandom. It just did so much and really gave me hope for the future of Star Wars storytelling on Disney Plus, which even I, I try to remain positive and think of the good things, but yeah, it wasn't looking so hot before this. And it'll be followed up by Andor, which is going to be a certified banger. You know, that show has like at least a 90% chance of being great. So yeah.
00:38:44
Speaker
Well, we're we're in good hands for the future. And speaking of the future of this podcast, we are going to continue doing weekly podcast episodes. Surprise. Yes, surprise. We're not ending the podcast either. Yes. And we made it all the way through Skeleton Crew, which you know I knew it was going to happen. But yes, we're going to be continuing to do weekly podcast episodes, except next week we're going to be taking the week off. you know We just finished eight episodes of Skeleton Crew.
00:39:14
Speaker
But then after that, we are going to be doing a Star Wars TV show tier list of all the shows. And you'll get to see Scotty and I argue over the quality of Star Wars shows, especially the Disney Plus. Yeah, especially with the time that's passed as well. Some are not as forgivable. Yes, exactly. And it'll be fun to see where Skeleton Crew lands in our tier list. Spoiler alert, I think it'll be high. So.
00:39:44
Speaker
But we'll see. Tune in two weeks from now and you'll find out too. Yes. Well, Scotty, it's been an absolute honor to be covering Skeleton Crew with you. But why don't you send us out of here for the final time? So make sure that you follow us on social media at WaySeeker's Pod for all of our Star Wars content. Thank you all so much for joining us on this pirate adventure and may the force be with you always.
00:40:09
Speaker
Finally, I can take down this fucking Christmas tree that I've had up the entirety of Skeleton Crew. It's January 14th. Next week I'll have something else in its place.
