Introduction to Disney Plus Star Wars

00:00:00
Speaker
Alright, let's do this. Let's talk about the live-action Disney Plus Star Wars shows. The absolute best pieces of cinema that have ever graced this planet. Don't sound so not excited about it. I think it's gonna be a good time because there's some good shows, there's some not so good shows. F***in' Scotty Holiday. Always gotta be f***in' optimistic. Let's get the show on the road.
00:00:30
Speaker
Welcome back to This is the Way Seekers, a podcast for Star Wars fans by Star Wars fans. My

Impact of Disney Plus on Star Wars

00:00:37
Speaker
name is Austin SWE. I'm joined with my co-host once again, Scotty Holiday, to be discussing the live action Star Wars shows. Scotty, do you like the Disney Plus shows? Do you think Disney Plus was a good thing for Star Wars?
00:00:51
Speaker
I like the Disney Plus shows that are written as shows and get to be shows. I don't necessarily love when they were written as a movie and are forced to be shows. So it's a little bit of movies. Yeah. No, I definitely feel that that's really short. No.
00:01:07
Speaker
Right. I definitely feel that. I mean, if you've listened to this podcast, you know that I don't love Disney Plus or the shows that are on Disney Plus. There's a lot of good things that have come from Disney Plus, but there's so much bad. Disney Plus has like ruined Disney as a company. It's ruined multiple franchises that were once pillars in pop culture. We have Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar.
00:01:33
Speaker
you know, entire business models ruined by Disney Plus, which will never turn a profit. But let me not get so negative from the start. We

Creating a Tier List for Star Wars Shows

00:01:42
Speaker
have nine TV shows that we're talking about today or nine seasons of Star Wars TV shows. We have one show that has three seasons, which is interesting because no other show has more than one season. But well, they keep canceling them or quietly canceling them. So right. Right. And we all know who the favorite is at Lucasfilm. So.
00:02:03
Speaker
Grogu. Exactly. Well, The Grogu Show. So we're going to be creating the official Wayseekers Disney Plus live action Star Wars tier list today. And the best part about it is we both have our own separate lists, but we have to agree on what we're going to put for the official Wayseekers list. So I'm sure that's going to be fun to try to figure out together. We're going in release order from the first earliest release show to the most recent release show, all the way from Mando season one to Skeleton Crew.
00:02:34
Speaker
And we'll put the link if you wanna check out this tour list and fill it out yourself and let us know how you ranked it. Yes, yes, tell us how wrong we are because we all know that. You love doing that.

Debating 'The Mandalorian' Seasons

00:02:46
Speaker
All right, then I think we'll start with the Mandalorian season one, the show that started it all in 2019. It was the first show on Disney Plus actually released the same day as Disney Plus.
00:02:58
Speaker
I honestly look back at Mando season one as a gem in a pile of rubble. I think that they had a really good story set up the way that I like emotionally connected with Din Djarin on that path with Grogu. I have it in A tier. Oh, OK. Well, um I think that this tier list is going to unveil ah how Scotty Holiday really feels about the Mandalorian as a series.
00:03:23
Speaker
um I have it in B tier, and you're going to notice with my rankings in B tier, it's essentially the series that opened up a new world, ah but left us wanting more. um So I think The Mandalorian, like you said, was a great introduction. It was the first season, but Honestly, I just like a big fantasy story. And this one was very self-contained, which I know is what most people like. ah but But it's not necessarily what I like in my story. So that's why I had it in B tier. OK. Yeah, that that makes sense. And I think, too, that I would have had it in B tier. It's just like looking back. It really stands out to me as like something that I really connected with. I just remember having so much hope. Yeah. Shill. Nostalgia. Shill. The glasses, the rose tinted glasses are on. I'm being paid.
00:04:14
Speaker
um So A tier and B tier. I mean, I'm fine with B tier, you know. Perfect. I like to be right. Yeah. There you go. There's not there's not an in-between. So, you know, I guess I'd lean more towards B tier, but I don't know. I like it. Season two, though.
00:04:33
Speaker
I have season two in B tier because it is a step down from season one. Um, but there's still so much charm to it. And I still love the story of Din Djarin and Grogu. And yes, you have all these cameos and things get to be crazy. That's why I docket, docket down to B tier. But again, it's one of those things that looking back.
00:04:58
Speaker
We had a good we had a fucking great back in the day. We're so flip flopped on these seasons because for me, I have this an eight year because I liked. Yeah, I liked that it opened up the world. um Did some of the other than really the.
00:05:13
Speaker
Ahsoka cameo. To me, that's the only one that felt like a cameo, like, oh, it's Ahsoka. But like, Bo-Katan made sense and there wasn't a big skeptical necessarily about her being in it. um Cobb Vanth made sense and there wasn't a big so like, I guess there was a big spectacle because of literally the Krait Dragon. But that episode is just so good. And I'm like, how could you not put that in aid here? Right. Even the episode where Bo-Katan is introduced is so Good. Yeah. um And I mean, we know the Ahsoka one, like it's added more to the universe and that's been expanded upon. But like that still kind of felt like its own story. And then, of course, you all know that I'm not like, oh, my God, Luke Skywalker. But this was the season that we got Luke Skywalker back. um Right. And have that really climactic ending where everybody teamed up. We had Mayfeld. You love Mayfeld. And we have that great episode episode with him as well in this season. You're right. The Believer is probably my favorite episode of The Mandalorian. The writing was really good. And I pretty much agree with everything you're saying. I think it's one of those things where if season three had continued on the path that season two was going, I look at it so much more fondly. But all those things that were set up, like Din Darrin taking off his helmet and kind of getting away from the watch and
00:06:41
Speaker
becoming his own person, it was all just walked back in later seasons. But that's not season two's fault. That's not season two's fault, that's season three's fault and whatever happened behind the scenes. Right, i guess it just I guess it just impacts the way I look at it. But you're right, you're right. Mandalorian was mandalorureian season two was pretty good. I'm willing to put it still in B tier, but ahead of Mandalorian season one.
00:07:11
Speaker
interesting because i think that's that's ah that's a good compromise you know like it's it's not a tier but it's still ah ahead of mandalorian i'm very curious what you have an a tier if this is how we're starting out um i mean i'll put it in there because like i said the asoka stuff did feel a bit shoehorned in and as much as an asoka fan as i am like It didn't necessarily need to happen. It's almost like the Mando episodes of the Book of Boba Fett. Right. um The Ahsoka episodes. There could have easily been two Ahsoka episodes just shoehorned in there. and So I'll allow beat here if we must. ah Listen, you still get it to be above season one. I personally like season one more than season two. I think it's a good compromise. but So speak. Speak of the devil. Speak of the devil.

Critique of 'The Book of Boba Fett'

00:08:01
Speaker
We have the redheaded stepchild of the Disney Plus series, the book of Boba Fett. And in my opinion.
00:08:12
Speaker
This show started off really great, really gave us some interesting stuff, gave us some flashbacks of a young Boba Fett, which were like not even from Attack of the Clones, all of them. Some of them were completely new shots were woven in so good. And then we get to the current day. Right. um And then we get to the Mandalorian 2.5.
00:08:35
Speaker
Right. And then we get to the streets of Moss Espa, the empty streets of Moss Espa. um And I don't feel bad about this. D tier. Same. Same here. D tier. It started off so good. If it didn't start off so good, it would be E tier to me because It's just fucking garbage. Like the the way that it it goes. And like you said, the present day stuff, the Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka shit where it's just so shoehorned in. But it sucks because the stuff with the Tuscans and Boba Fett kind of having a redemption arc because you know me.
00:09:13
Speaker
You know what I love? You know my Star Wars brand. I was all fucking for Boba Fett Redemption. I was pumping my fists in the air during season two. So I was so excited for this show. And it started off so strongly with the Tusken stuff just for them to die off screen. And then yeah it really tied nothing into the present day. We still really don't know why.
00:09:35
Speaker
Boba Fett wanted to be Daimyo of Tatooine or whatever the fuck. Just such a weird show. Well, on top of that, let's not forget introducing Cadmaine in live action no for like an episode. Let's talk about the fact that Cobb Vanth is still maybe in a back to tank. Oh, ah we don't even know his fate. So that show just It was very promising. I feel so bad for Tamora Morrison because even he like was not happy with it. A positive. We did get more Fennec Shand. But in reality, her and Boba just kind of had to split the same lines. Right. So it kind of messed it up for both of their characters. Yeah. D tier. We should just move on. D tier all the way. Yes. I'll take a season two.
00:10:21
Speaker
but oh yeah I don't know. I mean, like if if it's for Tamora, yes. I would prefer him to be in the Mandalorian in Grogu, but green there was, he he recently said he's not, but that's a whole other thing that we can get mad about later.

Analysis of 'Obi-Wan Kenobi'

00:10:38
Speaker
So moving on to the next release, we have Obi-Wan Kenobi and this series is very interesting. It's very bad. There's a lot of interesting stuff that happens. Bad stuff that happens.
00:10:57
Speaker
There's a lot of good ideas with poor execution. OK, I'll give you that. I'll give I'll give you that. I like a lot of the stuff that it tried to do. It just didn't do it well. I don't think that's the fault to any of the people involved. I think it's a budget issue.
00:11:14
Speaker
Um, I think that I should have been more emotional during this series because I'm a prequel kid and I grew up with these characters and I don't think I even cried. And if I'm crying during skeleton crew, but not the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, make that make sense. Right. Exactly. Exactly what you say. I.
00:11:30
Speaker
Obi-Wan Kenobi makes me mad because obviously it's bad to me. It's a bad TV show. But Lucasfilm literally had the perfect, perfect opportunity to make something good or make something enjoyable. Make literally a cash cow of a fucking series.
00:11:49
Speaker
I have been in the Star Wars online community for almost 10 years now. Ever since I joined, the number one thing people asked for was an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, an Obi-Wan Kenobi story of his time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. It really was not hard to make a great adventure, which makes it so much more offensive that they just dropped the ball so bad. They literally had Prime Tom Brady throwing them the perfect pass and they fumbled that shit and let the other team score.
00:12:19
Speaker
And the worst part about it is I'm like they're using the Mandalorian and Grogu as their return to theaters. Why would you not use, like you said, the one thing the fandom had been asking for since the prequel trilogy ended right is the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Right. Just having Ewan McGregor and on top of that, hating Christensen back in these roles would have driven people to the theaters and like droves because all of us that grew up with the prequel trilogy We're all adults now and we all got money. Exactly. And even if even if the those of us who have kids didn't care about it, we'd still bring the kids, which would then have them go back and watch these Obi-Wan Kenobi stories and start their love of Star Wars, how it happened for all of us. But they did not. However, because I know you're going to I already know you're going to rank it lower than me, so I'm going to say what I think first. OK.
00:13:13
Speaker
In the few moments where the show does shine are some of the smaller moments between Obi-Wan and Leia. And then, of course, in the climactic Vader versus Obi-Wan. And it's not the fight that shines, unfortunately. Right. It's the dialogue. The few bits of good writing and good delivery in this show for me. Made it better than Book of Boba Fett, so I put it in seat here.
00:13:41
Speaker
C tier. Oh, that's crazy. That's yeah that's disgusting, Scotty. No, I'm just kidding. E tier. I think this is the best option for Obi Wan Kenobi. I just I even in its best moments, I'm still like, what the fuck are we doing here? Listen, I love Obi Wan and Vader kind of having this face off, but it shouldn't have happened. They had to really bend canon to make that work. And that's true. Right. They had to really harp on some very miniscule lines from A New Hope to even possibly make it work. And even then it's still like, huh? Like did did they really meet in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope?
00:14:33
Speaker
Um, I think that Darth Vader as a character is, he's, he's, he's strong and scary. And I liked that aspect. Like he is fucking terrifying in the show. Yeah, I both like that. The moments you're talking about that you really enjoy with the good dialogue. I don't, I don't agree. And I don't think that Darth Vader, the evil Sith Lord who tries to separate himself from Anakin Skywalker would be indirectly.
00:15:02
Speaker
apologizing to his master or not apologizing to his master but reassuring him that he didn't kill Anakin Skywalker I did it's like no I don't I don't think so I don't think it works I disagree. ah Well, it's been a huge topic of conversation within the Star Wars fandom lately because of the Waddow comic where Darth Vader kills Waddow. And a lot of people are talking about this that Star Wars has very much mischaracterized Darth Vader to be so attached to Anakin Skywalker when the Anakin Skywalker we've known
00:15:41
Speaker
or the Darth Vader we've known so far, try super hard to disattach himself from Anakin Skywalker in every regard. But that's the point. No matter how hard he tries, he can't at the end of the day. Okay, but he's not going to willingly indulge and in the bullshit. Well... Besides Padme. That's the one exception. I was literally gonna say... The one exception. ...to explain Padme.
00:16:07
Speaker
The one exception. Obi-Wan literally ruined his life, at least from his perspective. Literally cut off his limbs, fucking hates him. Yes, he wants to look for him, and I'm totally fine with that aspect. My thing is the emotional parts of it, where it's like Darth Vader just let Obi-Wan walk off as well.
00:16:30
Speaker
because it just it just feels soft it just doesn't feel like fucking darth vader to me especially in its prime between revenge of the sith and a new hope i i don't agree with this masculine energy um whatever energy it is it's correct you're being a little bit of a vader fan boy and i'm gonna give you a pass i personally think that both series did their characters wrong. So I would put Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi two series that were both requested and wanted from the fandom for years. I'd put them in the same category.
00:17:12
Speaker
detail i would put them I'll put them indeed here because they fumbled the bag with both characters in that similar sense. Now, I would put an Obi-Wan before Book of Boba Fett. Well, if you don't have the mouse, so I don't think that that's possible. I'll use to the force. I don't know. I just really don't like Obi-Wan Kenobi. So I think that that like.
00:17:35
Speaker
really weighs. I get it. I get it. And and the reason why it wasn't so emotional for me is because we already saw a so could do the max like the mask split, the Anakin Vader voice like it already happened. So it didn't hit for me. Right. Where that moment still hits and rebels. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Rebels does it so much better. But so much better. Let's move on to this palette cleanser of a series here. I think we all know how this is gonna go. He's the biggest character in the thumbnail because he's the fucking greatest. Cassian goddamn Andor in his underdog series where he was yeah not expected to be the best at all. Everybody was like, what the hell? Why would Cassian Andor get a series? You're telling me you're gonna make a Cassian Andor series before a Darth Vader?
00:18:24
Speaker
OK, maybe I do sound a little bit like a Darth Vader fan boy. Yeah, exactly.
00:18:31
Speaker
Cassie and Andor, the Andor series is amazing. It brings in some of the the best aspects of Star Wars, but flips it flips it on its head. Andor is a series by someone that said, what if Star Wars was a real fucking project, a real fucking show, a real fucking movie? Yeah. And it's just Tony Gower is amazing. Give him everything.
00:18:54
Speaker
Yeah, it takes like all the politics of the original trilogy that we only got little inklings of. Right. And actually like gives us those politics of the fascism, people dealing with the empire and how horrible they were to the regular citizens of the galaxy. Right. And how much the shadow of the empire like was cast everywhere. And it was so hard to escape. On top of that, it brought politics back into Star Wars. Yes. Which my mama.
00:19:23
Speaker
My girl, mother. Right. um Yeah. So we all know where Andor is going. I don't feel like we need to really sit and talk about how much we love Andor all the way. Yeah. Just just an amazing series. Just the the fact that it even exists on a platform like Disney Plus is with the rest of these. Right. With the rest of these shows to side by side. It's like, oh,
00:19:46
Speaker
Right. Yeah. I agree with everything you said. What more can you say? And or was was great. It's the best shot. It's the best put together. They've, you know, real sets that look yeah great. Long episodes that, you know, multiple episodes. It's just fantastic. So indoor hits. Right. But this next one cannot. really This this season of The Mandalorian Mandalorian season three honestly represents everything that's wrong with Star Wars to me. Okay,

Thoughts on 'The Mandalorian' Season 3

00:20:19
Speaker
I think that's a little drastic. i don't think You think it's worse than Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi?
00:20:26
Speaker
I think it is because of the way that it continues the story. It is Mando season three on its own. Sure, it wouldn't be as offensive. It wouldn't be as bad. But Mando season three continues the story that Mandalorian season one and two set up and gave Din Dron's arc to another character. And I'm not saying this is like a anti, you know, yeah i'm I'm not that person that's like, oh, my God, a woman took over the show. I love Boca 10. I would be so happy to see Boca 10 in everything going forward. I love Katie Sackhoff. Boca 10 is fucking great. And she deserves the dark saber.
00:21:05
Speaker
It absolutely deserves the darksaber. But the role that was set up for Din Djarin was he was the one that would be uniting Mandalore or walking both paths where he realizes that the ways of the watch are much closer to a cult. He was literally banished from the home that he grew up on because he took off his helmet and did so because he wanted to save his foundling. it's and and It just doesn't go deep enough into that for me. Season 3 was supposed to be the season that went into that. In the first episode, it's all wrapped up supposedly where Din Djarin, his sins are washed away, he gets baptized again or whatever the fuck in the minds of Mandalore.
00:21:51
Speaker
And that's it. And then it's like... That's not the first episode, but... Is that like not... It's the second episode, right? That's like the third episode. Well, it's very soon into the show. The grape that I think is more important to put up, like with the first episode, is the fact that Grogu's just there. Exactly. Because he wasn't supposed to be.
00:22:11
Speaker
But to disagree with the point of your argument, while we said that Mando season two, we were judging it by itself, you're judging Mando season three based on the story of the three seasons altogether. So absolutely are we judging it by the season itself or are we judging it by the series and where it went with the story?
00:22:33
Speaker
I'm sorry, but no, you you have it backwards because when we're talking about Mando season two, I was like, OK, I won't. Mando season two didn't. Mando season three wasn't written yet. Book of Boba Fett wasn't written yet when Mando season two was written. So you can't judge that show off of that. Mando season three is continuing the story of Mando season one and Mando season two.
00:22:55
Speaker
it has to You have to keep that within the context of how you review that show, because it is literally the continuation. It's like it's like saying you're not going to you know keep that in mind with like The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens, where one of the biggest criticisms is it doesn't uphold what was set up in The Force Awakens.
00:23:18
Speaker
When you are continuing the story, when that is your main point of existing, you have to take that and into into consideration. Well, I think that based on our graph, because it's already different than mine, my i I would put Mando season three in C tier. C tier.
00:23:43
Speaker
Yep. Okay. I put it in E tier. Listen, so dramatic. It's just like I said, it to me, it represents what has gone wrong with Star Wars. It's not, okay. I'll give you that. It's not the worst that has happened because I think Obi-Wan Kenobi is worse. So I'll give you that. And I'm fine with putting it in D tier above Obi-Wan Kenobi.
00:24:07
Speaker
But like I said, it it just represents the the fact that we are not continuing what was set up in season one and two of this sort of grounded show that the Mandalorian had. That's true. So to me, it represents those issues, which is like a main issue of of what I have with Star Wars right now is that the Mandoverse has changed and it's become so prevalent within the franchise.
00:24:30
Speaker
So Mando season three is like your visual of like, this is why it's bad. Look at this. Exactly. um I mean, I talk about this all the time, but and I guess I need to take this into consideration that the only reason I don't completely hate Mando season three is because I like Bo-Katan.
00:24:48
Speaker
And I wanted her to have the darksaber since literally rebels, um because I think she deserves it and she's the leader Mandalore deserves. And as the armor said, Bo-Katan walks both paths. And but like you said, this was the Din Djarin story, not this was the Mandalorian, aka Din Djarin, not Mandalorian's series. So, yeah, I'll I'll put it in detail for that.
00:25:13
Speaker
Do you think above, I think it should go in between Book of Boba Fett and Kenobi, but I also don't really care either way because they all, it's it's just bullshit to me. Put it behind Book of Boba Fett because I hate that Lizzo and Jack Black episode. Yes. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate your. The one. The one episode you will not find a review for on my YouTube channel is the Lizzo and Jack Black episode, because I hated it so much that I didn't even finish editing the review. Scotty says they never finished editing it, but we all know that Bob Iger was, you know, looking over Scotty's shoulder and made sure that that video never saw the light of day, because it was it Bob Iger or Bob Chapek at the time, though?
00:26:00
Speaker
Who the fuck knows? They both suck in equal ways. Bob was over my shoulder and was was like, you want your check from Disney? You better not put this out. um But let's move on to Austin's favorite show on this list, the show that hits so hard for him. that He was crying.
00:26:17
Speaker
You just loved it so

Assessing 'Ahsoka' Series

00:26:19
Speaker
much. And that would be the Ahsoka series. Now, the Ahsoka series is a very interesting case, comparing it to everything else on this list that came before it. This was like the first series that really brought the force back into.
00:26:36
Speaker
any series on Disney Plus, obviously Obi-Wan Kenobi, there's the force because there was force users in it, but it was more of a psychological journey versus like a force fantasy journey. Obi-Wan was still very grounded in that sense, and Ahsoka felt like our first real fantasy.
00:26:56
Speaker
um which if y'all listen to this podcast, you know, I like the fantasy of Star Wars. So for me, there was a lot I did like about this series, but it runs into kind of the issue that I had with it being just a set up and not really telling a full story within the season. um So that's the biggest issue for me with this series. um I like all the stuff. We all know I like the stuff with Hayden and Ariana Greenblatt and Rosario Dawson.
00:27:26
Speaker
Um, but then there's just some not so great stuff. I loved all the great mothers. I'm mad Morgan Elizabeth is dead. Um, Ezra highlight the whole Ahsoka Sabine thing. Weird. Uh, just all of it. All of that with like no context. It's just like, yep, we trained and now we're mad at each other and now we're okay again. Whatever.
00:27:50
Speaker
So I'm trying to think based on this list where I would put it, but while I do that, let's hear how much you love this series and why you believe it's an S tier with Andor. Oh, God. um Where do I even start? Rosario's acting. No, I can't even kid myself.
00:28:09
Speaker
um Ahsoka to me is not as offensive as like Mando season three, but as like a huge Rebels defender, as a huge Ahsoka fan, it's just particularly disappointing to me. And as a fan of Dave Filoni's work and his, his work over the last, what, 20 years almost.
00:28:32
Speaker
And at Lucasfilm, as a creative, as an artist, I just feel like so much is compromised with the Ahsoka series. And once again, it's another show that represents so much of what's wrong with Lucasfilm these days. You have a character like Ahsoka, stories like the Clone Wars and Rebels that are so Intricately thought out and and so just some of the best Star Wars we've ever had. It's another case where they're just given so much. They they have so much to work with here, but then

has to be live action because you know it's it's we're not going to waste these resources on a dumb animated show at Lucasfilm these days. um It needs to be connected to the Mandoverse because how could anything survive Star Wars these days if it's not connected to that goddamn shiny bucket head?
00:29:27
Speaker
it's like it's it It's upsetting, but the thing about Ahsoka is that at the same time, even though it has all that shit working against it, at at its core, it has Dave Filoni's imagination and Dave Filoni's ideas, which are really good. We've talked about it before. He works so much better as a group. Ahsoka, he writes it by himself. so It's not as polished, it's not as shiny, but there's so much that it's like, okay, I can see what you're doing. A great example is like you said, the flashbacks to Clone Wars. There's an idea there of Ahsoka and what she's going through in her mindset with not wanting to be Anakin or not wanting to be like her master and falling into the same steps. and
00:30:13
Speaker
how she feels at training Sabine, but then it's also just really weirdly executed to the point where you don't really know what lesson Ahsoka is trying to learn there. I still don't really know. Yeah, and nobody really knows. there's There's a way to make sense of it, but it's just not executed well enough. That show could have been so good, but it's not. To me, it's just mid C tier. It's just mid.
00:30:40
Speaker
It's not good. It's not bad. It's just mid. I think the biggest problem with Ahsoka is it's very surface level. It's like almost like a sampler. It's like a rebels and Clone Wars sampler, but in live action. And it just doesn't get deep enough into these characters and their stories. And we all thought this would be Ahsoka's big shining moment because everyone was kind of skeptical on her and Mandalorian, her and Book of Boba Fett.
00:31:05
Speaker
And then it was just more of that, but with better luck. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. I agree. C tier. Yeah. I'm going to teach here because that it's just so much of like what could be now. Let's move on to another show that I personally feel echoes a lot of the same issues where it's a great idea. And I like the story that they were setting up. But once again, it just feels like such a set up.
00:31:35
Speaker
The Acolyte, you didn't cover it because you were retired at the time. It was your, you were on your off season to make a sports reference. yeah And I covered this show. I enjoyed it. There was some stuff I didn't like about it, but overall for this new adventure in a new era of Star Wars, establishing that on screen. It did a lot of stuff that I liked. I think we can both agree that the choreography and the fights in this show were the best since the prequel trilogy. um So since 2005, almost what is that 20 years ago? Yeah, like we haven't had good fights in 20 years.
00:32:14
Speaker
Um Yeah, and I really like that and that's the biggest issue with the whole the acolytes cancelled and renew the acolyte It set up such a great story That like most shows where we used to get seasons everyone likes to compare it to the clone wars Not everybody liked the clone wars at the beginning Yeah, but that show had time to find its footing and really like build out its universe and now people love it I mean same thing with rebels And I think the acolyte could have been the same Right. But I agree with you. Judging it off the one season, while I had it in B tier on my list, I had it next to Ahsoka because like I said, I feel like they suffer kind of the same problems. So I guess I'd put it in C tier on our list. I'm kind of inclined to put it in front of Ahsoka, which may be controversial, but
00:33:05
Speaker
Interesting. I mean, i I echo a lot of the same things you're saying here with the Acolyte and I agree. I think it's C tier on my own list. It's C tier. It's very much the same thing as Ahsoka.
00:33:19
Speaker
It's not great. It's not bad. It's just mid. it It has so many great ideas. I really like the idea of reframing the Jedi to not necessarily be antagonists, but show different perspectives of how the Jedi affect the galaxy and kind of show the downfall of the Jedi to where we get to these arrogant soldiers that we get in the prequel trilogy. All of that is really cool. but the execution of it, of that of what we saw in the accolade. it's It's not great. I feel like it has so much to say about the Jedi, but then they set up those criticisms of the Jedi within the show itself, where it just, I don't know. Yeah. I see what you mean. Where it's, it's, there it's that telling us, not showing us. Exactly. Which we've talked about this so many times. Ahsoka did a lot of telling, not showing. You always bring up the line where you're like,
00:34:15
Speaker
The Last Imperial Grand Admiral, Ron, right, or whatever that scene with Ahsoka and Hera. But that did a lot of that, too. And I really enjoyed the way Leslie Headland put it when she was doing interviews and promo for the show before it came out, saying like this show is going to show how the Jedi became so dogmatic that they let the Sith literally take over. And that was really intriguing because it's like, yeah, how did this righteous order who was fighting for the people How did they let these horrible people come through and literally lead to their downfall? But once again, we were told a lot of why the Jedi were bad versus actually just seeing them make decisions that just led to them being bad. Yeah. um So where do you think? Do you think you said you had C tier on your list? Yeah, I think C's here, I don't think it's better than Ahsoka. I don't know if that's just because Ahsoka has more aspects of Star Wars that I like. I just i look back at Ahsoka much more fondly ah than the Acolyte.
00:35:21
Speaker
um But i don't don't I don't necessarily feel super strongly about it just because my opinion on the accolade, I feel like changes on any given day where it's like, oh, that they had like some really good setup and a season two would have really taken this show to new heights. And then I'm like, and was there enough you know it was there enough good ideas to you know sustain this show?
00:35:49
Speaker
So I don't know. I don't think it's better than Ahsoka though. Just put it next to Ahsoka because like I said, I think they both suffer from the same the same issues. Yeah. And I feel like they could be kind of interchangeable in that sense. But like you said, Ahsoka is just a little bit better because it has more that it can fall onto. Whereas the acolyte was so new. but These characters were all brand new. So we didn't even know where they could really go. And we're not going to know.
00:36:17
Speaker
yeah I hope we do. Let's get an animated season two. Yeah. Yeah. I'm sure Lucasfilm is just super eager to do an animated project for that.
00:36:31
Speaker
anything about it, but. Well, let's go

Podcast Conclusion and Listener Engagement

00:36:35
Speaker
out with a bang here. This is the way Seekers has had plenty of conversation about Skeleton Crew. Seven episodes of this podcast, to be exact, have been dedicated to this wonderful mystical show. Do I think it's S tier? No, but I do think it's A tier. I think it's a lot better than anything we have at B tier and below, but that's just me.
00:36:59
Speaker
No, I completely agree. It was it was the most cohesive story and self contained to where and we talked about this in our finale review where or at least I talked about this. I don't need a season two because I was satisfied with the ending, but it could have a season two like it was the best.
00:37:16
Speaker
contained story compared to the rest of these and somehow it's still a part of the mando verse i know which is just insane to me because all the other mando verse shows are really low on this list here but on top of that and they're not contained they try too hard to like tie together but yeah Skeleton crew, so unique, so fresh, brings a great new perspective. And even though I know you say that you don't want to season two as like a good thing, it's still just like, when you say that it's still, just there's just a part of my heart that like sinks into my stomach where I'm like, please just stop putting that energy into the universe. body
00:37:55
Speaker
I said I don't need one. I want one, but I will be okay if we don't get one. But you're right. Let's manifest to season two because this show deserves it. The crew, the actors, the writers, the directors, they deserve it. And it's so funny looking over this list because the two shows that did their own thing and did something different are the ones that are at the top of the list. Right, exactly. The ones that were new. And the ones that like were relying way too much on the old are at the bottom. Yes, absolutely. it's it's It's very telling and it's something we've definitely been saying on this podcast for a long time. So as you can see on this list, we don't have anything in the E category. That is different from my list. I'll tell you that right now.
00:38:40
Speaker
Did you have anything in the E category? I'm genuinely curious to know. No. No, of course not. You fucking Disney shill. ah No, I'm just kidding. I had Kenobi and Mando season three in E tier.
00:38:53
Speaker
um Yeah. You got some strong feelings about Kenobi and Mando season three specifically, but it's okay. We all have strong feelings about the things we like because we want them to be good. Exactly. And that is the biggest takeaway that I think people need to take away here. Yes. I am a negative Nancy about this shit as it appears, but I fucking love Star Wars and I want it to be great. I have dedicated.
00:39:22
Speaker
a lot of my creative energy and just my passion. I've dedicated so much of that to this franchise over the years through my content, through the podcast and everything. I say this because I love it. it's it's It's tough love. Star Wars, I just want you to be good. I just want you to be better and more like Andor and Skeleton Crew.
00:39:44
Speaker
Yeah, I think that's a great way to close it out. I I feel the same way. um I just feel like I am not as angry about it. Yeah. Well, you know, I try to pick out the gems. Yes. And the good moments because I'm like, well, we still got the series. I mean, we could have as much as Disney Plus has been a mess with Star Wars series. We could have no Star Wars shows and still be talking about the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy.
00:40:13
Speaker
