Yeah, ah we've got there's 17 chapters total and today is 14 through 12 through 14 12 through 14 Jesus. So the next episode will be the last episode of Sorcerer's Stone. That's crazy

We're thrilled. um Before we get into the discussion, we do want to go ahead and give the traditional spoiler alert. um This episode will cover things that happened in this book and may even cover things that happened further on in the book from what we discussed today and things that may happen later on in the series.

Yeah, so up to you my friends. But yeah. So um before we get into the discussion, we are going to do our currently readings. So my current read is The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadman. This is the second book in the, I think it's called the Nightborne Duet.

I had no idea what the name of the duet was. I think that's what it's called. Good for you. But I'm super excited. I loved the first book so I can't wait to see the sequel. I know and they picked the first book for our book club book this month and I was just like okay first of all yay because I don't have to try and make sure that I read a book that book in the month because I've already read it and B every everyone better love it or they're kicked out of book club.

So that's where I'm at. That's where my headspace is at. um My currently reading is Carnage by Chantal Tessier. This is part of her Lords series but it's Technically like its own trilogy. I think I guess it's gonna be a trilogy I'm assuming another one's coming out because there's three spade brothers and this is part of the spade brothers story um So I'm very excited because we all know how much I loved the Lord's trilogy Because the second book in the Lord's trilogy got picked as my book of the year this year. Erised. Okay, I was thinking, I was like, how do you say Erised or something? I used to think it was a rest, but I was like, I don't think that's right. Erised. So it is almost Christmas time at Hogwarts.

And I just immediately want to go ahead and point out something. So it says in the beginning that the Weasleys were throwing snowballs. I have this highlighted because they if we start off the chapter immediately with the Weasleys choosing violence and throwing snowballs at Kroll.

But it's hilarious because they're hitting the back of Quarrel's head and we know that Voldemort's on the back of Quarrel's head. So they're just casually hitting Voldemort and don't even know about it. In the face. And I can just hear him grumbling under the turban now, like, when I get out of here. Oh, it would be the twins.

Oh yeah. um And we do have Draco being Draco is always condescending all the poor people. Talking about how he feels pity, not really, for the kids who are staying at Hogwarts for the holidays. Yeah, well, and like before that they talk about like, they're not like the castle being freezing. I'm like, okay, you tell me you've got like a castle full of wizards and nobody can magic some heat in this joint. And like,

for like even for the owls like there's no protection spells you can put on the owls to like help them stay warm so you can't put fires down in that dungeon for the potions class like we're at a magical school come on magic some heat this way um and it talks about how harry is not going home for the holidays um and i just love it that McGonagall was going around and like having the kids sign up for whoever wanted to stay and harry immediately with no hesitation signed up and i just love the quote he didn't feel sorry for himself at all this would probably be the best christmas he'd ever had that's what i'm saying like

Ron's house is literally 10 stories tall like it's bigger than Hagrid's head. And I just always you think if you think Harry and Draco have beef oh no it these books clearly show it's the Ron and versus Draco show like they're constantly insulting each other, well it's mainly Draco doing the insulting, and Bickering and Ron threatening to just kill him. When I think that comes from like the long term rival between their dads. And so like he's not known Harry nearly long enough to like build up the ammo he needs against Harry, but he's known about the Weasleys long enough to be like, no, I got some dirt.

um but anyways Ron and Draco get into it um and Snape flourishes away his way in there and breaks it up and once again takes points away from Gryffindor but for don't worry Dumbledore will give them all back but Snape comes and breaks it up but then Hagrid comes around and him Ron and Harriet head to the great hall to see all the Christmas decorations which I would love to see that. its probably I picture it in my head and I'm like, that is so beautiful. It's really funny that we're reading these chapters too. like It's December 29th right now. We just had Christmas and we're reading the Christmas chapters. It's beautiful.

I love it um but then Hermione shows up and reminds them that hey we need to meet up in the library as the Golden Trio are trying to find out anything and everything they can about Nicholas Flamel and... homeboy is crusty yeah very crusty very old um and Hagrid is trying to like Tell them like, don't search this, don't look this stuff up, stay out of it. And they're just like, no. Honestly, Hagrid can't throw stones because he's giving them half the information they have. Exactly. So if you quit, if you keep giving them information in little tidbits, they're going to keep looking for him. Like, just close your mouth. Um,

want to go to Hogwarts for the library um yeah so they split up in the library taking on different sections and Harry kind of wanders to the restricted section which has all sorts of not so fun books which we get to see later um and he gets caught by the librarian who shoes him out of there and he gets booted out of the restricted section and they meet up and still can't find anything and they decide to head off to lunch and they kind of say their goodbyes because Hermione's going home for the holidays and Ron and Harry are gonna stay there which don't blame them. Same. I would also want to say I'm honestly a little bit shocked that Hermione goes home for Christmas as much as she was like you know

She'd be like, no I gotta stay and find this Nicholas Fullwell, dude So it's a little surprising that she goes home, which you know Yeah, if you like your parents, I guess you do true Harry can't relate on that end but Um, but it is finally Christmas time. Um, in the meantime, Harry and Ron, they have a lot of time to think about like Nicholas Flamel. They start playing wizard chess. Um,

Some can only move up two over one or over two up one. um But yeah, I so The Christmas time always makes me think. So if you go to the Warner Brothers lot tour in Hollywood, California, you can do the voiceover for the scene in the movie where he goes, Happy Christmas, Harry. Happy Christmas, Ron. What are you wearing? And you can do your own voice. And I did that. I have that video. I will be posting it to our Instagram.

Interesting choice. um But then Harry gets one other present and he opens it up and it is but but ah The invisibility cloak and Dumbledore remains shady to this day.

Instead of me taking responsibility for my own actions, I'm gonna let these children take care of the issue for me.

swear um but he's kind of in awe at this cloak and is like your father used to have it and he's like did my father really have this which i can totally imagine james just sneaking around hawkwards with this cloak 100 they had it because i mean you find out later that the marauders like they all became anime guy because of remus so they used it to get to the whomping willow where they could get then get to the shrieking shack They used it all the time to snake out on the mound. And probably to do other things that weren't that... Not so nice. Let's be honest. Could you imagine if Fred and George had the invisibility clip? Oh no. That and the Marauder's Map? They'd be unstoppable.

Because it almost makes me wonder if he inadvertently went into the room of requirement. Because it showed up for him when he needed a place to hide from Filch and Snape. um i just picture the fan cast oh yeah and taylor johnson shout out i'll just read this one little paragraph the potter smiled and waved at harry and he stared hungrily back at them his hands pressed flat against the glass as though he was hoping to fall right through it and reach them he had a powerful kind of ache inside him half joy half terrible sadness i just where are the rest of the potters does that i don't know it's been so long i can't remember do they In later books, is the rest of the Potter family dead? I feel like there is something mentioned about James' the family, but I can't remember. My assumption would always be that they were probably, they're probably all dead, but this is kind of showing um a little bit of what the Mirror of Eresid can do and it gets described later in this chapter about how it shows you your deepest desires.

but Harry is kind of coming to grips with what he saw in the mirror and can I just say too he says like in his dream he saw a flash of green light while a high voice cackled with laughter why do Harry's dreams always have Baltimore's Norton helium they're always with a high high pitched cackle like He legitimately, there's a villain if you've ever seen Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I always think of that villain because he has like a really high pitched voice and he cackles a lot in the end of the movie and it i always makes me think of that movie. Honestly, yeah. That's actually Voldemort. Surprise! But anyways, they're talking about the next Quidditch game and how Oliver Wood is working the team harder than ever. Oh, Oliver.

um we do get another seven reference yes yes i i underlined that isn it says if they won their next match against Hufflepuff they would overtake Slytherin in the house championship for the first time in seven years which is kind of fun Gryffindor Slytherin seven looky there yeah there's lots of seven references his number his quidditch number is seven But and I have to talk about this. So it gets brought up that Snape is going to be refereeing the next game. And why would Dumbledore let him referee? I don't know, but I cannot see Snape refereeing a Quidditch game.

But I also love the idea that Snape has that much school team spirit, that he is legitimately prepared to sabotage this game so that Slytherin will win. Like, you just wouldn't think he would have like he is that passionate about Slytherin House winning the dang cup. It's just kind of funny. Oh yeah, and everybody's immediately like, um, there's no way we're winning. If Snape's roughing, there's no way we're winning.

um so But they're- I just love it. Harry goes to Ron and Hermione and tells them that Snape's reffing and they're immediately like, don't play, say you're ill, pretend to break your leg. And then Ron goes, really break your leg. I can't with that. I was like, okay Ron, we're taking it to 74. We're going a little extreme. Um, I just love that back and forth. That's so funny. But in- while they're talking about this, um, poor old Neville.

literally anybody else um but they kind of encourage Neville which I like um kind of give him a little boost of confidence which he so definitely needs and I agree with Harry's statement you're worth 12 of Malfoy and I just love how he's like where you're in Gryffindor and where's Malfoy in stinking Slytherin that's exactly how I would also be like yeah Slytherin sucks Halle's throwing some stones. Listen. She's making pot takes over here. As long as you don't say it. As we say, I'm not going to say it. Bad about Hufflepuff. No. Living alone. I like the Hufflepuffs. I would hang out with the Hufflepuffs. I'm a little upset that Gryffindor beats them in this Quidditch game. Let them live. So they give...

and there have been many reports of the Sorcerer's Stone over the centuries but the only stone currently in existence belongs to Mr. Nicholas Flamel the noted alchemist and opera lover that's a very interesting it's a very random detail to put in there but okay i'll get behind it based on his character being introduced in Fantastic Beasts movies that tracks i love him in the Fantastic Beasts movie yes and then we get there um we realize how old this man is, how crusty this man is. um It says, Mr. Folmel, who celebrated his 665th birthday last year, and do his quiet life with Devon, his wife, and Devon with his wife. um So this guy is old. And does it ever explain why he's old, so old? Is it using the stone because of the stone? Okay. um So then they kind of put together that the dog,

Gryffindor is still gonna win regardless. It doesn't matter. He came to make sure Gryffindor wins. That's the only reason he's there. um But as the game goes on eventually Harry does catch the snitch and Gryffindor wins.

Essentially he just hears bits and pieces of Snape threatening Quirrell. There we go. um And about how when the time comes he needs to make sure that he's on the right side of things and he needs to make a decision on where his loyalties lie.
