The Influence of Lily on James' Decisions

00:00:00
Speaker
Some of it probably had to do with Lily. That's what I've always... That's what I've always kind of thought is maybe James... There was a part of him that was like, oh wait... she'll never forgive She'll never forgive me if this happens and she finds out I was involved.
00:00:15
Speaker
She'd never forgive me. And also, i think maybe part of him, even though he went along with it because it's serious, I wonder if a part of him was like, wait a minute, this this is a little upset. This is a bit too far. yeah um Even for me.
00:00:29
Speaker
I'm sure there was some moral panic.

Podcast Schedule Changes and Chapter Coverage

00:01:56
Speaker
You're going to get longer episodes from us from now on because since we're doing this every other week, you know, um we wanted to kind of ramp them up. And I was looking at planning out the year in all the books and...
00:02:10
Speaker
We were barely going to finish two more books before the end of the year. And I was like, no, we need to speed this up a little bit. So we're doing more chapters each episode to kind of speed it up a little bit since we're doing every other week now.
00:02:26
Speaker
Yeah. So, there we are. Okie dokie.

Current Reads: 'The Boyfriend' and 'All the Young Dudes'

00:02:31
Speaker
um um But before we get into today's discussion, we'll do our currently reading, and we'll start with Hallie.
00:02:37
Speaker
So, my current read is The Boyfriend by Freda McFadden. um This is about, what, my, this will be my sixth book in May, and the month's not even over yet.
00:02:48
Speaker
It's been a pretty good reading month for me. Yeah, it has me too. um I think this, my currently reading, is going to be my fifth book of the year. Which is All the Young Dudes by MissKingbean89.
00:03:03
Speaker
Shout out to the fanfic. um I just recently finished another book, and if you've been listening for a minute, then you know I've been kind of reading this fanfiction.
00:03:15
Speaker
like on the side and I really wanted to start another book after finishing my last book but I was like no okay we're gonna crack down we need to finish all the young dudes before we start anything else because quite frankly I just wasn't reading it um because I was getting too absorbed with the other books But I'm really enjoying this so far. i am on year three, so that's fun.
00:03:39
Speaker
um They know about Remus, and James' crush on Lily is full swing, and we're having a good time. We're having a great time.
00:03:50
Speaker
It's a blast.

Quidditch Highlights: Firebolt and Scabbers Drama

00:03:51
Speaker
Okay, so we will get on into today's discussion. um Chapter 13, Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw.
00:04:03
Speaker
Ron and Hermione are still fighting over Crookshanks and Scabbers. i feel like Ron and Hermione are always arguing over something. um Harry thinks that Crookshanks has eaten Scabbers as well, and now Hermione is mad at him too.
00:04:16
Speaker
Ron is very sad about Scabbers, and the twins try to cheer him up by saying how old and boring the rat was. You know, they're putting in the effort, even though the end result is probably not what Ron wanted to hear. Yes, just the opposite of what Ron needs.
00:04:34
Speaker
That's their version of comfort. yeah Yes. Harry has Ron come to Gryffindor's Quidditch practice and tells him that he'll let him practice on the Firebolt to try to cheer him up. um When they get to the field, Madam Hooch is also oohing and aahing over the firebolt.
00:04:50
Speaker
um And then Wood comes out and says that, you know, Harry's going to need that if he's going to practice. Very sassy to the Quidditch. representative whatever you want to call her um he ushers harry into practice and cho chang will be playing as ravenclaw's seeker we learn my least favorite character of the whole series other than doubledore so thank you um Watch out, Harry.
00:05:19
Speaker
It's a bit icy at the top. it Get out of here. I hate her. Sorry. um Harry flies the firebolt for the first time and might as well be lightning the queen because he is zooming around this field on firebolt.
00:05:35
Speaker
It's a great time. um Harry continuously catches the snitch over and over through practice, just with no trouble at all. And Oliver Wood asks Harry if he's solved his Dementor problem um because he worries that it might get in the way of the next match.
00:05:53
Speaker
um ron flies harry's firebolt uh around the field and has a grand old time uh and then it's night time and harry and ron leave the stadium waking madam hooch to tell them they have to go back and she gets mad they didn't wake her earlier um on their way up to the castle harry sees eyes in the darkness ahead Ron uses Lumos and they see Crookshanks coming out of the forest.
00:06:17
Speaker
Of course. um Ron shoots him off and Harry notes that he thought it was the Grimm. Homeboy's paranoid. The Grimm.
00:06:28
Speaker
They shovel off to the castle, and the next morning, everyone wants to see Harry's Firebolt. Wood has him put it in the middle of the table for everyone to see. um he is a proud father.
00:06:40
Speaker
ah Cedric congratulates Harry as well. Yes, sir. Representing the Hufflepuffs well. Thank you, Cedric. Draco sasses that Harry can't handle the broom and tells him, shame it doesn't come with a parachute.
00:06:55
Speaker
And Harry sasses back with, shame yours doesn't come with an extra arm so it could catch the snitch for you. The Harry sass. We love it. Draco stalks off and the Gryffindor team sets off for the locker room for their No Harry.
00:07:12
Speaker
the team is excited and harry puts onen under his quidwich robes just in case of intors and when they walk out onto the pitch he notes that cho is the only girl on the rovenc claw team she smiles at harry and he feels nauseous no harry Don't do it.
00:07:27
Speaker
To be clear, I have nothing against the actress. It's purely the character. Yes. The match begins and Harry zooms around while Lee Jordan boasts about Harry's broom and McGonagall gets on to him. ah Cho is tailing Harry knowing that if she just follows him around, she can stand a chance for the snitch, which just feels like the easy way out.

Harry's Patronus Triumph and Gryffindor's Victory

00:07:51
Speaker
I'm sorry. I'm going harp on Cho. um Katie Bell scores for Gryffindor, and Harry sees the snitch and dives for it, with Cho following him. He nearly misses a bludger and loses the snitch in the process.
00:08:04
Speaker
Gryffindor is now leading 80-0. Ravenclaw scores three goals, putting Gryffindor only 30 points ahead. Cho continues to tail him, and Harry sees the snitch and goes for it once more.
00:08:18
Speaker
Suddenly, three Dementors appear below him, and he uses the Patronus charm. A large white light shoots at the Dementors and he pushes on. He catches the snitch and the Gryffindors surround him.
00:08:29
Speaker
They land and Gryffindor rushes the field, congratulating him. Remus congratulates him on the spell and he shows him that Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle were the Dementors and they lie in a heap on the field, rolling around in agony.
00:08:44
Speaker
Good. That's what they deserve. McGonagall chastises them and threatens to tell Severus Snape and ah the rest of them head off back to the castle for a celebration party.
00:08:56
Speaker
Fred and George use the map to go to Hogsmeade to buy lots of treats and sweets for everyone, and everyone's trying to figure out how they could have done it. Hello, Will. Harry and Ron find Hermione in a corner, and she's buried in homework.
00:09:09
Speaker
She says she can't celebrate and has homework to do. um She says Ron wouldn't want to hang out with her anyways. Ron says if Scabbers was alive, he would love the fudge flies.
00:09:21
Speaker
And Hermione bursts into tears and runs off to her room. Ron's being a little bit of a butt. He's always a butt. i He's a lovable butt, but he's always a butt.
00:09:32
Speaker
Like, it's like, I mean, Ron was ron was a turd in the Starkid version, too. So, I mean, like, it's very... Fair enough. Very accurate. God, Thanks, Hermione.
00:09:43
Speaker
Harry tells Ron to give her a break, and then they all head off to bed at 1 a.m. when McGonagall tells him it's time. um Harry goes to sleep, but he dreams he's following something silvery white through the forest with his firebolt on his shoulder.
00:09:58
Speaker
Wonder what that silvery white thing is. Gee, wonder. Hmm. I do wonder, though, if it's supposed to be his Patronus or if it's, like, his mom or dad's Patronus, like, in his dream.
00:10:10
Speaker
It's interesting, because he never explains what it looks like. This would be interesting to see.

Sirius Black's Intrusion and Neville's Blunder

00:10:14
Speaker
um As he tries to get closer, it gets further away, and as he breaks into a clearing, he hears a yell of pain.
00:10:21
Speaker
This is the funniest part to me. I don't know why. He bursts awake, and the boys are all awake. Ron's bed curtains are torn to shreds, and he says he saw a serious back... bret Hello? Black in his room with a knife.
00:10:33
Speaker
And I've always thought this was funny that out of all the things you chose to carry that Sirius would have a knife. And I don't know if he had a knife. I think he maybe had like a knife or a wand.
00:10:45
Speaker
But it was just always funny to me how like out of... book this scene takes me because you're in this magical universe and he has such a muggle weapon that it just kind of takes you out of it for a second i've always thought that it was funny he had a knife isn't don't they make a joke about that in the star kid one i think think so or like uh the gun or something they make a joke about it i don't know i'd have to re-watch it um They all sprint downstairs to see if they can find Sirius, and other students come downstairs wondering what's going on.
00:11:21
Speaker
Fred gets excited thinking the party is picking up again. Priorities, Fred. Priorities. um Percy ushers everyone back upstairs, and Ron tells Percy and what he saw, and everyone goes silent.
00:11:34
Speaker
Percy doesn't believe him. Of course. Yeah. McGonagall comes in and chastises them for all still being awake. Ron tells her what he saw, and McGonagall questions Sir Cadogan, who is arming the portrait hole.
00:11:46
Speaker
And he says he let a man in that knew the password. Everyone's silent, and he says that he had a list of all the passwords. McGonagall asks who wrote down the passwords, and Neville's trembling trembling and slowly raises his hand.
00:12:01
Speaker
Oh, Neville. But here's the thing. i also write down all my passwords. That way I don't forget. he literally But I don't write them down on a piece of paper. Well, he tells, too. Like, he had a list of all the passwords for the week because he was changing them on the daily. I wouldn't remember it either.
00:12:17
Speaker
At some point, though, i wouldn't. Like, I would have the brain capacity to be like, maybe I shouldn't write these down. I'll just wait for people to come along and get in with somebody.
00:12:28
Speaker
Poor Neville. um And that's how we close out chapter 13. Any thoughts on chapter 13? Other than just Neville. Oh, no. And Ron being hateful.
00:12:41
Speaker
Oh, no. run Over an ugly rat, which technically is not a rat. Which he always complains about. he always... All this book one, he's complaining about scabbers.
00:12:53
Speaker
Mm-hmm. I'm like, it's just a rat. Yeah. I'm like, well, first of all, why would you have a rat as a pet? Second of all, I'm like, cats, it's a cat and a rat. I mean, what do you think's gonna happen, Ron?
00:13:06
Speaker
Well, and I don't know why he stays so mad at Hermione. Like, she's supposed to be able to do something about it. She can't control the cat. don't know. Anyways. Starting chapter 14. He's angry because he's covering up his true feelings of actually being in love

Hogsmeade Plans and Buckbeak's Trial

00:13:20
Speaker
with her. Amen, sister friend. It's the equivalent of pulling the girl's pigtails on the playground. Yeah.
00:13:27
Speaker
Um, chapter 14, Snape's Grudge. I feel like that should be the title of the entire series. Snape's Grudge. Harry Potter and Snape's- And the Grudge of Severus Snape.
00:13:40
Speaker
Yep. Love it. um No one sleeps that night, um you know, worrying about everything going on. McGonagall tells them that Sirius did escape the castle again, and all the faculty are now monitoring the hallways, um ushering Harry to each of his classes.
00:14:02
Speaker
The fat lady is giving back her position on the... um ah agreement meant that she will have guards in the portraits next to her.
00:14:12
Speaker
um The one-eyed witch statue remains unmonitored, though, so Harry's glad that he still has his passage to Hogsmeade. He's Harry Potter and the unresponsible choices.
00:14:27
Speaker
Yep. um Ron is feeling his celebrity, very much so, his celebrity status, as everyone is asking him about him seeing Sirius Black. And it seems to get more more dramatic every time he tells it.
00:14:40
Speaker
um He tells the story to everyone over and over. um Everyone questions Ron as to why, after Ron screamed, serious black ran instead of finishing him off and looking for harry um and neville is in total disgrace to all of the student body of hogwarts what else is new he's banned from hogsmeade and has detention no one is allowed to give him the passwords so he has to wait to get in until ah someone else lets him in poor buddy But what happens if nobody else comes through and lets him in? He's just chilling.
00:15:16
Speaker
He's just stuck out there. assume he has to go get staff. um Lord. His gran has sent him a howler and he grabs it and runs for it, but he goes off in the entry hall and everyone can hear where she sank. Harry has a letter from Hagrid.
00:15:33
Speaker
He wants to have tea with Ron and Harry. Um, they meet Hagrid in the entrance hall and Hagrid is sports thrown down to his cabin. Buckbeak is inside and Hagrid has a suit hanging for Buckbeak's trial this Friday.
00:15:47
Speaker
Harry realizes they had forgotten all about the trial. And Hagrid is upset with them because Hermione is feeling lonely. You know At least somebody's taking up for Hermione. Hagrid is the number one supporter.
00:16:00
Speaker
Yes. My throat went dry out of nowhere. um Hagrid chastises them for giving her a hard time. And says that she's been so busy, but she has still found time for to help him find stuff for the trial. and this makes Ron and Harry feel even guiltier.
00:16:19
Speaker
Good. um And then Hagrid tells Ron people can be a bit stupid about their pets. And he kind of passively gripped passively aggressively says this about Ron to Ron.
00:16:32
Speaker
But also, like, Hagrid, we're on book three, and I feel like this sentence sums him up pretty well. Yep. You've done a lot of stupid things, too.
00:16:43
Speaker
Just saying. You had a baby dragon. You... Buck... Buckbeak in general. um You had a giant spider. you had a three-headed dog.
00:16:57
Speaker
Inside Hogwarts. I mean... Rough. Um, Hagrid walks them back at 9 o'clock that evening, Hogsmeade is the next weekend.
00:17:09
Speaker
Hermione is sitting behind them as they're talking about the Hogsmeade trip, and she tells Harry that if he sneaks into Hogsmeade again, she'll tell McGonagall all about the map. Ron ignores her, and Hermione chastises them further.
00:17:26
Speaker
Ron is being, and I had like, Ron's being very rude, but it's not, Hermione has a very valid point because like, Harry, there is someone literally out there that everyone believes is trying to kill you and they are doing their best.
00:17:44
Speaker
to try and keep you safe but you still want to throw your life at risk by going to hogsmeade out in oh out in the open in public where you make yourself an easy target that sirius could very well try to kill you with which we know is not the case but still i'm telling you harry potter and the unresponsible irresponsible decisions thank you for coming to my ted talk remus literally says that same thing later and i was like that underline that Heck, Snape says it himself later in this chapter. Yes.
00:18:16
Speaker
He's like, we're trying to protect you and you are not, you're making it worse. You're making it harder on us to do our job. Hermione rushes off to the dormitories and Harry agrees he'll go to Hogsmaid and packs his cloak for the trip.
00:18:32
Speaker
Harry acts as though he's staying, trying to fool Hermione, and runs in Neville on his way to the statue. This is such a sad scene. Neville wants to play exploding snap, and Harry says he's going to finish his homework for Snape.
00:18:46
Speaker
Neville says he'll go with him, and Harry says, oh, I forgot, I've already done it. And Neville says, great, you can help me then. Neville just wants some friends. Snape is behind Harry and he questions why they are meeting there the statue. Why is always lurking?
00:19:04
Speaker
He's a lurker. He's a professional lurker. He's the professional stalker of Harry Potter. He's a butt trumpet. Always have been always will be butt trumpet.
00:19:16
Speaker
Who looks stupid now? You
00:19:19
Speaker
Snape tells them to return to Gryffindor Tower, and when Harry looks back, Snape is analyzing the One-Eyed Witch statue, which I assume he knows it's a passage. Harry tells Neville he left his vampire essay in the library and goes to get it.
00:19:35
Speaker
He looks at the map and sees that Snape is back in his office. He enters the tunnel and runs off to Hogsmeade.

Mysteries of the Shrieking Shack

00:19:41
Speaker
Harry comes out of Honeydukes and tells Ron it's him behind him, and Harry keeps his cloak on,
00:19:48
Speaker
And tries to avoid knocking into someone as they travel through the village. ah They buy tons of tricks and treats at different shops. And then they decide to head off to see the Shrieking Shack.
00:20:00
Speaker
Even Hogwarts ghosts avoid it. LOL. Fred and George had tried getting in, but the entrances are sealed shut. Suddenly, Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle appear.
00:20:12
Speaker
And they tease Ron about this being his dream home. Harry scoops up a clump of mud and checks it at Draco. They can't figure out where it came from. Ron says, Very haunted up here, isn't it?
00:20:26
Speaker
Said Ron with the air of one commenting on the weather. and He throws another at Goyle and throws a stick at Crab. Harry trips Crab and...
00:20:37
Speaker
The cloak slides off Harry's head in the fall. They see his floating head and scream and take off running. Harry tugs the cloak back into place, but it's too late. They've seen him.
00:20:47
Speaker
Ron warns Harry that Draco might tell someone, so Harry takes off for Hogwarts. He hides the cloak in a shadowy corner in the tunnel, and as he exits the one-eyed witch statue, he sees Snape approaching him.
00:20:59
Speaker
Harry tries to look innocent, but Snape tells him to follow him. They go to his office, and Harry feels very nervous. Draco told Snape what he saw, and Harry feigns innocence, saying it wasn't him. he must have been hallucinating.
00:21:13
Speaker
Snape tells him he's not allowed in Hogsmeade. um And snips that everyone has been trying to keep Harry safe from Sirius Black, but Harry has been doing what he wants with no thought for the consequences.
00:21:26
Speaker
Valid points were made. Thank you, Snape, for saying what we have said all along. yes Snape says Harry is like his father. He says he was arrogant too.
00:21:38
Speaker
Says he strutted about the school. And Harry tries to defend his dad. And we get the infamous quote, My dad didn't strut. And neither do I. Except your dad did strut. He did strut. Quite frankly, he did.
00:21:52
Speaker
Him and Sirius both strutted around the school. Quite frankly, they were strutters. um

Snape vs. Harry: Resentments and Revelations

00:21:58
Speaker
Snape tells him James also ignored the rules and Harry surges with rage. I'm angry all the time.
00:22:06
Speaker
um He yells at him to shut up about his dad and that Dumbledore told him how James saved Snape's life. Snape goes very pale and asks if he knows how James saved his life.
00:22:19
Speaker
Tells him that James is the reason his life was in jeopardy to begin with. Says that James and his friends were playing a cruel prank, but James got cold feet last minute and was saving his own skin. Hmm.
00:22:31
Speaker
We know what that was about. To be fair... Yeah, they were awful. And it was Sirius's problem. So, congrats. um He would have been expelled if he had been successful in the prank.
00:22:45
Speaker
um And Snape would be dead. ah Yada yada. um What if? Yeah. He tells Harry to turn out his pockets. And he says Ron brought him the candy that was in his pocket.
00:22:58
Speaker
and tries to think how he's gonna get to Ron so that Ron can give that excuse, which is very funny what happens later. um Snape picks up the parchment and uses a spell to have it reveal its secrets.
00:23:12
Speaker
He doesn't do anything for a moment, but then on the map finally appears some text. Mr. Moody presents his compliments to Professor Snape and begs him to keep his abnormally large nose out of other people's business.
00:23:25
Speaker
Mr. Prongs agrees with Mr. Moody and would like to add that Professor Snape is an ugly gett. Mr. Padfoot would like to register his astonishment that an idiot like that ever became a professor.
00:23:37
Speaker
Mr. Wormtail bids Professor Snape good day and advises him to wash his hair, the slime ball. Jeez Louise, they went in. Snape throws glittering powder into the fire and yells for Lupin, and I am assuming that was blue powder.
00:23:51
Speaker
ah Yeah, I don't think like it it's never really said what it is. It just is glittery powder. and But I feel like Carrie would know flu powder. So don't know. Lupin appears from the flames and Snape shows him the parchment.
00:24:02
Speaker
Lupin stares at it and Snape says it's filled with dark magic. Lupin says it's a joke parchment meant to insult anyone trying to open it. Snape says it comes from the original manufacturers.
00:24:17
Speaker
Ron bursts in and huffs out that he gave Harry that stuff when he bought it last trip. I love that him and Harry are on the same brainwave. yeah Lupin has Harry join him in his office and Harry tries to explain but Lupin says he knows it's a map.
00:24:35
Speaker
Lupin says the map makers and him have met and would have used this map to lure Harry out of the castle for fun.
00:24:44
Speaker
Yes, they would have. Lupin says he won't cover for him again, and he says he's poorly repaying his parents for dying for him, quote, gambling their sacrifice for a bag of magic tricks.
00:24:58
Speaker
Lupin walks away after dropping the mic, and Harry feels very guilty. Ron says it's his fault, but Harry says they shouldn't have done it. They run into Hermione, and she tells them Hagrid lost his case.
00:25:11
Speaker
Buckbeak is going to be executed. that's how we end chapter 14.

Sirius Black's Encounter with the Trio

00:25:18
Speaker
Thoughts on chapter 14. Lots of things revealed. Lots of lore without...
00:25:24
Speaker
knowing that there's lore, if you have read the books, then you pick up on it. feel like the first time around, you're just kind of like well, this is a weird interaction. Okay, moving on. But it is very, like, we know that the original map makers were obviously Moony, which is Lupin, Padfoot, which is Sirius, Prongs, which is James, and Wormtail, which is Peter.
00:25:47
Speaker
And they made the map, and... The prank was trying to get Snape lured into the Shrieking Shack where Remus was every night on a full moon, and if Snape would have made it in, he would have been killed.
00:26:04
Speaker
I just think the prank is very excessive. Like, trying to get somebody- I get you don't like the guy, but trying to get him killed?
00:26:15
Speaker
Well, and it's Sirius's idea, and I know it's fanfic, but I see it as canon. um And all the young dudes- Snape and Sirius go pretty at it, and Snape makes some below-the-belt comments that I think Sirius was just so angsty and was just always mad at the world because he had such a crappy childhood home. um that And we you learned that from the actual Sirius itself in Order the Phoenix. But I think Sirius was just so angsty, but it is a it's a lot.
00:26:51
Speaker
And I think James, honestly, I'm waiting to get to that part in All the Young Dudes. And I really do think, like, he says James did it to save his own skin. But honestly, Lily and Snape were so close that I imagine some of it probably had to do with Lily. That's what I've always kind of thought is maybe James, there was a part of him that was like, oh wait.
00:27:13
Speaker
She'll never forgive She'll never forgive me if this happens and she finds out I was involved. She'd never forgive me. And also, i think maybe be part of him, even though he went along with it because it's serious, I wonder if a part him was like, wait a minute, this this is a little upset. This is a bit too far. Yeah. um Even for me.
00:27:33
Speaker
I'm sure there was some moral panic. Well, and also, I'm sure there's some moral panic as far as, like... We're doing this to him, but this is also being done to Remus. Like, you're gonna make him, because he doesn't know what he's doing when he's in that body.
00:27:47
Speaker
Like, you're gonna brute force him into killing someone. Because you could imagine if Remus come out of it and he so and he no finds out what happened, he would have been mortified, like, scarred for life. That friendship would have broke.
00:28:05
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Because, and that's where I'm like, and this is where Sirius is such a flawed character. Because he does, I mean, he missed his childhood. He did. He missed out on a lot of his childhood.
00:28:16
Speaker
He had it at Hogwarts with the boys, but he had such a crappy home life that, like, he just really never got to grow out of it. That, like, in Order the Phoenix, quite frankly, there's so many times he just does full-on fits that you're like, how old are you?
00:28:33
Speaker
And so, like... This is one of the flawed bits of Sirius is he's just so juvenile in these ways.

Character Analysis: Sirius Black

00:28:41
Speaker
He doesn't think about the consequences of his actions.
00:28:44
Speaker
Yeah, because, like, what happened if Snape would have been killed? And also, just to go back to Ramus, be like, because, you know, him being a werewolf was... A secret. Like, no one knew about it. And it's like, imagine if that would have got out. Like, Snape have been killed and they would also found out that Remus was a werewolf.
00:29:00
Speaker
They could have put Remus' life in danger. Because he probably could have been killed. Well, yeah. I just think... I think James had a lot of moral panic there. And came out the better man for it. But... ah Unfortunate. Still not a good thing. No, i was serious.
00:29:16
Speaker
He's one of my favorite characters, but he's so flawed. He has so many... layers all right chapter 15 the quidditch final hermione shows ron and harry the letter and haggard is thanking hermione for her help and says that it lost the case hermione thinks lucius is the reason as he has the board wrapped around his finger course yeah ron promises to help find an answer and hermione breaks into tears and hugs him she apologizes for scabbers and ron agrees he was old and useless
00:29:50
Speaker
So you finally admit it. Thank you But also, Lucius is a certified butt kisser. I will say that in here and now. um New safety measures at Hogwarts have been instituted, and they can't go visit Hagrid.

Hermione's Bold Response to Malfoy

00:30:06
Speaker
um They can only speak to him in Care of Magical Creatures class. They tell him how sorry they are, and Hagrid says that he got tongue-tied and confuddled.
00:30:17
Speaker
I would, too. Hagrid. Yeah. Ron tells him they're working on the appeal, and Hagrid says the committee is in Lucius's pocket, and that he'll make Buckbeak's remaining time as meaningful as possible.
00:30:30
Speaker
Draco teases about Hagrid's blubbering, and Harry and Ron both move towards Draco, but Hermione beats them there and slaps him. Girl power! one of my favorite scenes.
00:30:43
Speaker
Everyone stands very still, and she mouths off at Draco and pulls out her wand and aims it at him. um Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle run for it, and Ron can't believe it.
00:30:56
Speaker
I think that's the moment where he's like, he really fell in love. He's like, I'm gonna marry her. a It's like that scene in Supernatural when Sam's with that girl and Dean goes, marry that girl. Yes.
00:31:11
Speaker
Oh. Marry her. She tells Harry that he better beat Slytherin and quit it and they head off to charms. They're doing cheering charms and pairs.
00:31:22
Speaker
Ron turns around and Hermione's gone. They know she entered with them so they think she might have gone to the bathroom. She never shows up for class or lunch. They worry Draco's done something in retribution, so they rush off to the common room and find her asleep on her arithmancy textbook.
00:31:39
Speaker
She bursts awake, sounding very confused, and they tell her that divination is next. Harry asks Hermione why she didn't go to Charms, and she says she forgot. Harry says she was right behind them, so how could she forget?
00:31:52
Speaker
She asks if Flitwick was mad and lost track thinking about what happened with Draco. Ron tells her that she's doing too much, and she says she's made a mistake and must go see Flitwick.
00:32:05
Speaker
She joins them later at the entrance to Divination, and she seems very upset that she missed Cheering Charms, since Flitwick mentioned they might come up in exams. They head into class and see crystal balls on the table.
00:32:19
Speaker
Trelawney makes her dramatic entrance from the fog, and she says she is introducing the crystal ball early, as the fates have shown her that their that their examinations will concern the orb.
00:32:32
Speaker
Hermione snorts that Trelawney makes the exams, so of course she would know that. She says they'll relax the mind and clear the inner eye, and they all stare into the crystal ball.
00:32:45
Speaker
Hermione says it's a waste of time, and Trelawney asks if any of them need help. Ron says the foggy crystal glass means there's going to be fog tonight, and Harry and Hermione laugh. Trelawney scolds Ron for disturbing the clairvoyant vibrations.
00:33:00
Speaker
She looks into their crystal glass and hair tells Harry she sees the Grimm, which he was very much expecting. Hermione chuffs at her, and Trelawney tells her that she doesn't possess the skills for divination.
00:33:13
Speaker
Hermione stands and leaves the glass in a huff. Trelawney begins breathing very heavily, and Lavender mentions one of their next number leaving them forever, like Trelawney predicted at the beginning of the year.
00:33:27
Speaker
Trelawney agrees, and Harry looks into the glass but doesn't see the Grimm. um It's the Easter holiday and all the students are swamped with homework. Neville has nearly given himself a nervous breakdown over all of it.
00:33:40
Speaker
And Hermione has the most homework of anyone. She's last to leave the common room at night and first to the library the next morning. She seems constantly close to tears and tired.
00:33:52
Speaker
Same, girl. Ron takes over the work for Buckbeak's appeal and Harry has Quidditch practice to balance with his homework.

Gryffindor vs. Slytherin: Quidditch Strategies

00:34:00
Speaker
He must catch the snitch only if therere are if they are up more than 50 points already to have the points to stay in good standing for the House Cup.
00:34:12
Speaker
Harry just wants to beat Draco. The holidays are over and the Gryffindors and Slytherins are out for each other's blood. Gryffindor surrounds Harry between classes to protect him from Slytherins and he's locked up his broom in his trunk and makes frequent checks just to make sure nobody's gone snatched it.
00:34:31
Speaker
It's the night before the match and even Hermione is on edge. Harry keeps feeling nauseous just thinking about it. Wood seems sends the team off to bed, but Harry can't sleep.
00:34:42
Speaker
He dreams that he overslept and they use Neville instead. He dreams that Draco and the rest of the Slytherins ride dragons in the match. um He wakes up and goes to pour himself some water from the basin near the window.
00:34:56
Speaker
Which, I thought this was interesting because like, I don't guess I didn't give like thought to the fact that they wouldn't have water fountains, would they? They have basins. um He sees an animal on the castle lawn outside.
00:35:11
Speaker
sees something on the edge of the forest and notes that it's Crookshanks. He squints and sees a giant shaggy black dog with Crookshanks walking beside him. He wakes Ron, but when he turns back, they're gone.
00:35:24
Speaker
And Ron falls back asleep.
00:35:28
Speaker
It's the next day and Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff are cheering for Gryffindor too. They just want to see Slytherin lose. Amen. um The Gryffindor team leave for the field and Wood assesses the field conditions.
00:35:41
Speaker
No one speaks as they change, and they head on to the pitch. Lee announces the Gryffindors and Slytherins. Wood and Flint shake hands, they mount, and then they're off.
00:35:53
Speaker
Harry goes in search of the snitch, and Angelina scores for Gryffindor. Flint smashes into her, and Fred hurls a bludger at him. Both teams then make penalty shots.
00:36:05
Speaker
um Alicia scores again. Flint misses as Wood catches it, and Montague grabs Katie Bell's head and she drops the quaffle.
00:36:17
Speaker
Katie gets a penalty shot and makes it. Harry pretends not to see the snitch and heads in the opposite direction and Draco follows him. Harry tricks two Slytherins into smashing into each other. And Flint scores for Slytherin in the process.
00:36:31
Speaker
Lee Jordan swears and Minerva takes the mic. um It's a brutal game as all the Slytherins and are like purposefully targeting Gryffindor players.
00:36:44
Speaker
um The score is 40-10 to Gryffindor. Katie scores making it fifty to ten Angelina scores making a penalty um sixty to ten Alicia scores seventy to ten Harry looks for the snitch. he chases it but drco grabs and finds it He chases it, but Draco grabs his broom to slow him down.
00:37:05
Speaker
The snitch disappears in the process, and Madame Hooch gives s Gryffindor another penalty shot, and even Minerva scolds Draco for grabbing onto his broom. Alicia takes the shot and misses, and Montague scores seventy to twenty All the Slytherins shoot for Angela, and Harry races through them, breaking them up.
00:37:27
Speaker
They're scared of the firebolt. um Angelina scores, making it 80-20, and Harry sees Draco diving for the snitch and races Draco for it.
00:37:37
Speaker
Harry knocks Draco out of the way at the last minute and catches the snitch. Wood grabs Harry and hug, sobbing, because Gryffindor has just won the House Cup. Everyone rushes the field and they hoist the team in the air.
00:37:51
Speaker
Dumbledore stands, waiting with the cup. never been prouder in his life to not have to rig it. He's like, whoo! A sobbing wreck of Oliver Wood passes Harry the cup and Harry wishes there was a Dementor around because he feels like he could produce the best Patronus he's ever made. Which is a very sweet way to end that chapter.
00:38:15
Speaker
ah Oliver Wood just absolutely just coming apart. He's just... Screaming. I love the meme of like the reason that they burnt the Quidditch pitch to the ground first in the Battle of Hogwarts is because Oliver Wood wasn't there to defend it.
00:38:35
Speaker
And I think it's so funny. i just can't. That's his whole life. Um. Pause on chapter 15. I like it. Um. There's some house spirit.
00:38:48
Speaker
Very much house spirit. Lee Jordan. Best thing ever. Best character ever. Yes. I just... If I was to be a commentator in Quidditch, I would be like Lee Jordan.
00:39:00
Speaker
To be a fly on the wall from Minerva bragging to Snape about the win, want to see it. She'd be like, huh. Would you look at that? Did you lose, Severus?
00:39:12
Speaker
Oh, oh, did I win? i just, I cannot. I imagine her bringing the trophy with her, like, into the staff break room every single day and being like, I'm just gonna sit this here as she sits next to Severus.
00:39:27
Speaker
Poor Severus. um Chapter 16, Professor Trelawney's Prediction. Dun-dun-dun. Exams are getting closer, and everyone would rather be outside as the weather grows nicer.
00:39:40
Speaker
Same. Fred and George are preparing for their ordinary wizarding owls at levels, sorry, and Percy is preparing for his nastily exhausting wizarding tests, otherwise known as owls and newts.
00:39:54
Speaker
Hermione is high on anxiety, and she's doubled up on exam schedules. um Ron questions how the heck she could have two exams at once, and she just doesn't answer.
00:40:06
Speaker
i Foreshadowing there for you. Hedwig comes in bringing a note to Harry, and Buckbeak's appeal is soon. and executioner is coming too, and the trio believes that the Ministry has already made up their mind if they're bringing an executioner.
00:40:24
Speaker
Draco continues to talk about how Buckbeak will be killed around the school, and Harry still hasn't recovered his cloak from the tunnel, the one-eyed witch. Forgot about that. You can't just leave that lying around, Harry.
00:40:38
Speaker
He doesn't want things he shouldn't. Exams have started, and we have transfiguration. They must turn a teapot into a tortoise for charms. Harani was right. They have to do a cheering charm.
00:40:50
Speaker
For care of magical creatures, flabberworms must still be alive by the end of the hour, so very easy for everyone. And Hagrid tells them that Buckbeak is growing very depressed. ah da In potions, they must make confusing concoctions.
00:41:06
Speaker
They then have astronomy and history of magic, where they must write about the medieval witch hunts. ah They go on to herbology and wrap up with Defense Against the Dark Arts,
00:41:19
Speaker
where it is an obstacle course to pass a deep paddling pool with a grindalow, potholes filled with red caps, a patch of marsh with a hinky punk, and a trunk with a boggart inside.
00:41:32
Speaker
Ron is fine until the hinky punk trinks him into sinking waist-high into the marsh, and Hermione is fine until the boggart, where she bursts out of the trunk screaming. When Remus asks her what's wrong, she says it was McGonagall, and she told her she had failed every exam.
00:41:49
Speaker
That's the level of anxiety I also have. Thank you. um Cornelius Fudge has arrived at the castle, and he's here to witness be a witness for the Buckbeak execution if the appeal fails.
00:42:00
Speaker
The committee and executioner have arrived as well, and Ron wants to tell them off, but Hermione talks him down. The trio can't possibly eat lunch um due to nerves for Hagrid.
00:42:13
Speaker
Finally, it's time for the divination exam for Harry and Ron and Muggle studies for Hermione as she has quit divination. um in divination she is seeing them separately and harry is last to be tested and reveals that they must see something in the crystal ball harry can't see anything so he says he sees a dark shape and says it's a hippogriff she asks if it's dead writhing around on the ground without its head and harry says it's still alive and flying away
00:42:44
Speaker
And she tells him that's incorrect. To be fair, he's not wrong. No. He actually did, in fact, guess that correctly. My stomach is growling um because Sirius flies away on the hippogriff.
00:43:02
Speaker
So, shout out. um He turns to go and hears Trelawney speaking. He turns around and her eyes are unfocused and she looks ill. This would freak me out. Cod no.
00:43:13
Speaker
um She speaks of how the Dark Lord is going to rise once more, and the Dark Lord's servant will be breaking free and rejoining his master tonight. Yay.
00:43:25
Speaker
a she breaks from the the trace trance is what i meant yes She breaks from the trance and asks if Harry's okay.
00:43:36
Speaker
um She doesn't remember anything of what she just said, and Harry wonders if it was a real premonition. I don't know why he wonders. Like, look at her. Versus all the other times that she's told you crazy things. Like, obviously that was real.
00:43:47
Speaker
Come on, Harry. Use your brain. He heads off to the common room, and Ron and Hermione tell him that Buckbeak has lost his appeal. Haggard wrote a letter saying they shouldn't come, and he doesn't want them to see it.
00:44:00
Speaker
And the letter was blotched with very large tear stains. The trio decides to sneak out to be with Hagrid, so Hermione volunteers to go grab the invisibility cloak, and Ron can't believe her actions.
00:44:16
Speaker
He's like, who are you? And what have you done with Hermione? um They decide to sneak out at sunset, and they go to Hagrid's and go in Buckbeak is outside in the pumpkin patch, um and Hagrid tells them they shouldn't have come.
00:44:31
Speaker
Tells them that Dumbledore tried to save him, but the committee is under Malfoy's palm. And Dumbledore is going to come down to be with Hagrid during the execution. Hermione says they'll stay too, but Hagrid tells them they'll have to go. Hermione randomly shrieks and she says she sees Scabbers in the corner.
00:44:51
Speaker
Scabbers comes into the light and he looks... rather awful um and ron grabs him uh the committee the executioner fudge and dumbledore are coming down the hill so the trio grab the cloak and leave hagrid soothes buck beak they get back under of the cloak and head up to the castle Ron stops because Scabbers won't stay put.
00:45:16
Speaker
I wonder why he was looking worse and worse as time goes on. I assume the anxiety of, like, being caught his hairs coming out, but maybe also, like, maybe you're not supposed to stay an anime guy for so long. Maybe, like, the longer you stay, the worse you look.
00:45:33
Speaker
The more you become that animal, probably, and that animal's not supposed to live that long, so it's... Looking worse for wear. It's starting to not look like an animal.
00:45:43
Speaker
Yes. Ron tries to soothe him down, and they hear the committee coming to the pumpkin patch. Just as they start to turn to leave again, they hear the axe hit the ground, and Hermione starts to blubber, realizing that they've just executed Buckbeak.
00:46:00
Speaker
LOL. LOL. Malfoy's gonna catch his hands. Thoughts on chapter 16?
00:46:07
Speaker
Depressing. It is. Just one big depressing chapter. Thank you. Yeah. I like... i I always enjoy knowing, like, what they did in their exams, what did they have to do, all that kind of stuff. Yeah. I feel like it loops back in stuff from beginning of the book.
00:46:26
Speaker
um Chapter 17, final chapter of the discussion. Cat, rat, and dog. This is a very interesting chapter. um The trio stands, rather shocked at what they just heard.
00:46:40
Speaker
They hear a wild howling behind them and realize it must be Hagrid. They head off back to the castle. First of all, they hear a wild howling behind them and think it's Hagrid.
00:46:51
Speaker
Not Haggard. It's not Haggard. Not Haggard. um They head off back to the castle and Scabbers is still wriggling around. Ron tries to calm again but Scabbers bites him.
00:47:03
Speaker
Crookshanks glides slowly toward them from the forest and Scabbers breaks free and makes a run for it. Ooh, I've been waiting for this. Yes, with Crookshanks following. Hallie is referencing a reel that we will be posting rather soon.
00:47:16
Speaker
Keep an eye out. um ron ducks out from under the cloak and chases after them harry and hermione follow quickly behind ron catches scabbers and is holding him in his pocket and then they hear giant paws coming towards them and harry turns to see the giant black dog the black dog i when she when taylor came out with that song i was like i can't not think of serious black hello um harry tries to grab his wand but the dog bounds onto him it rolls off of him because it lunged too hard and he hears it growl it bounds for harry again but ron blocks him the dog bites into ron's leg and drags him away want to know what serious's plan was here was he really going for harry
00:48:07
Speaker
I assume no.
00:48:11
Speaker
I don't know. know. Interesting. Um, or maybe like he was gonna go to Harry and maybe in, cause Ron stepped in front of him, maybe saw it as a threat. And so he, that's why he bit Ron.
00:48:27
Speaker
don't know because he does it so he can get scabbers. I don't know. Um, um, Maybe he was just going to knock Harry out of the way so Harry couldn't stop him.
00:48:41
Speaker
I bet. And made a last minute decision of like, fine then, here we go. um
00:48:49
Speaker
Something hits Harry and Hermione in the head rather hard. And Harry uses Lumos and sees the Whomping Willow is in front of them. Great. It should be noted that the Whomping Willow is not what hit Harry and Hermione in the head.
00:49:06
Speaker
lol um
00:49:11
Speaker
at the base of the tree stands the dog with ron's leg in its mouth and the dog drags ron into a gap in the roots harry tries to follow but the tree blocks him ron tries to hold to a root but the dog pulls harder breaking ron's leg yay hermione says they need help Were going to say something? No, I was just moving.
00:49:33
Speaker
Hermione says they need help and the tree continues to whip at them. Harry tries to get to the gap in the tree. Crookshanks suddenly darts forward and paws at a knot in the trunk. The tree stops moving and Hermione questions how the heck Crookshanks knew.
00:49:49
Speaker
Harry says he's friends with the dog so he must know. We're the two best friends. also love that that's just a normal conversation and they just move on from it. He's friends with the dog, okay?
00:50:00
Speaker
Let's go. They move to the gap in the roots and follow Crookshanks inside. Inside they find a tunnel that leads underground and they follow it.
00:50:11
Speaker
Harry tells her that Fred and George mentioned it and not and didn't know where it ended. They could never get into it because of the Whomping Willow and it goes off the edge of the map, but it looks like it's heading for Hawksmead.
00:50:24
Speaker
um They run at a crouch until they see a small light in the distance. And crawl into a small opening. When they get inside, they see a raggedy room with broken furniture and boarded up windows.
00:50:36
Speaker
Great place to be. ah They pull themselves into the room and Hermione realizes it's the Shrieking Shack. Surprise, surprise. They hear something moving upstairs. They head up.
00:50:48
Speaker
They see dust everywhere except for a drag mark on the floor where the dog had dragged Ron upstairs. They head to the only open door and kick the door wide open. They find Crookshanks sitting next to Ron nursing his broken leg.
00:51:02
Speaker
They dart for him and Ron says it's a trap and says he's the dog. He's an animagus. Harry wheels around and sees Sirius Black. He looks very deranged and ill, and he uses Ron's wand to use Expelliarmus and take Harry and Hermione's wands from them.
00:51:22
Speaker
He steps closer to Harry and says he knew Harry would come to help since James would have done the same for him. Harry feels anger at hearing his father's name come out of Sirius Black's mouth, and he steps forward, but Ron and Hermione hold him back.
00:51:37
Speaker
Ron says Sirius will have to go through them if he wants Harry, and Sirius tells Ron to lie the heck back down. um He says there will only be one murder tonight, which would make me feel queasy. And Harry asks him why just one, and mentions the people that he murdered before.
00:52:00
Speaker
um Why would he stop at one? Harry yells that Sirius killed his parents and lunges forward. Harry feels a lot of rage in this moment, as he does throughout the series, and Sirius and Harry fall into the wall.
00:52:15
Speaker
Harry punches him over and over. Sirius grabs Harry by the throat and says he's been waiting too long to let him ruin it. And Hermione and Ron attack too, and the wands fall to the ground.
00:52:27
Speaker
Harry darts for his wand, but Cookshank stops him by clawing at him. He gets his wand and aims it at Sirius. Ron sits on the bed in pain and Sirius says he doesn't deny that he killed James and Lily but says Harry doesn't know the whole story.
00:52:43
Speaker
And I thought it was interesting for Sirius to say this because in the moment, probably not the best thing to say, Sirius. Like, I understand what you mean by that. Like, the guilt. You feel like you're the reason that they're dead. But maybe don't tell him that you did kill James and Lily.
00:53:00
Speaker
Because he doesn't quite get the context of that in this moment. And that's not good for you. No. um Harry mentions that Sirius sold his parents out to Voldemort.
00:53:12
Speaker
And Sirius begs him to listen. Crookshakes sits on Sirius' chest just then to block Harry's wand. And Hermione blumbers in the corner.
00:53:23
Speaker
Harry considers killing the cat, too. Harry! And he wants and feels like he has to kill Sirius. They hear footsteps downstairs, and Hermione yells for the help.
00:53:37
Speaker
And Lupin bolts into the room, takes a look at everything going on in the room, very confuddled at what he should be looking at. And then Lupin takes Harry's wand as well as the others, and Harry feels failure and knows Sirius will be handed over to the Dementors.
00:53:54
Speaker
um Because he thinks that Lupin was taking it, so he wouldn't kill Sirius so he could hand him to the Dementors. LOL. Lupin asks Sirius, where is he? Harry is very confused, and Sirius points at Ron.
00:54:08
Speaker
I love this scene in the movie because Ron goes... Oh, like, oh god. and Lupin asks, why hasn't he shown himself before now? Lupin's eyes widen and he, you can tell that he's realizing something and says, unless he was the one, unless you switched without telling me.
00:54:30
Speaker
um but Serious nods. And we know that he means you switched as the secret keeper without telling me. Um, um Harry asks what's going on and Lupin pulls Sirius to his feet and hugs him.
00:54:47
Speaker
Star-crossed lovers who found each other.
00:54:55
Speaker
Harry's probably like, oh my god. Harry's like... Harry's world what harry's world is falling apart. Harry's just like, what? With a smile.
00:55:06
Speaker
um I saw a thing this morning on TikTok. Somebody had commented on a video because it was one of those videos where you're like, I'm scared to look at the comments.
00:55:17
Speaker
And one of the pictures somebody had posted was the smile just the regular smiley face emoji, but the eyes were, like, really small and, like, like just tiny little dots.
00:55:29
Speaker
And that's what I'm picturing right now. That was so funny. um The trio is flabbergasted, to say the least, and Hermione says she was keeping Lupin's secret and can't believe he's betrayed them.
00:55:43
Speaker
LOL. LOL. Harry yells at Lupin and Hermione says that he's been helping Sirius get into the castle and reveals that Remus Lupin is a werewolf.
00:55:56
Speaker
umpa um um Lupin says that he hasn't been helping him in and he doesn't want Harry dead. um He agrees that he is a werewolf and asks how Hermione knows.
00:56:07
Speaker
She says since Snape's lesson um what that he assigned to compare werewolves to anime guy, Lupin says that Snape will be happy since he assigned it hoping someone would make the connection.
00:56:23
Speaker
the pettiness. um Hermione says he was always ill during the full moon and the boggart was a full moon. know Remus says that, sorry.
00:56:35
Speaker
And he looks at Hermione and says the quote that I love for Hermione. You're the cleverest witch of your age I've ever met, Hermione. She really is. And she's the reason that everyone in that room is not dead sooner.
00:56:48
Speaker
Thank you. um Hermione says she should have told everyone. And Lupin says that all the staff knew already. And Ron says my favorite line of all, Dumbledore hired you when he knew you were a werewolf?
00:57:01
Speaker
Is he mad? Yes, Ron. He He is. He's the worst. Lupin says that Dumbledore had to convince a lot of teachers to let him teach there, and he tries to explain and throws them back each of their wands to gain their trust.
00:57:19
Speaker
um Harry asks how he knew Sirius was here, and Lumis says that he... Lumis? What the fuck? Who is Lumis? Lupin says he saw him on the map, and Harry asks how he knows how to work it, and Lupin reveals that he is Moony.
00:57:39
Speaker
um He figured the trio would sneak out to see Hagrid for the execution, and he was watching them. um He knows that they were wearing the invisibility cloak, but the invisibility cloak can be seen on the map.
00:57:52
Speaker
Even, like, they can be seen on the map even when they're wearing the invisibility cloak. Harry asks how he knows about the cloak. And Lupus, what? What? Lupus! Remus. I'm just going to saying Remus.
00:58:04
Speaker
Remus reveals that he was friends with James, too, and saw him use it. Even with the cloak, you still show on the map. He saw them accompanied by someone else, though.

He thought the map was malfunctioning. um The trio tells him that no one was with them. And Remus says that he saw Sirius appear then, too. And he watched him pull two of them into the Whomping Willow.
00:58:30
Speaker
Ron says it was only one of them, being him. And Remus says, no, there were two. He asks Ron if he can see scabbers. Ron struggles to grab him as he squirms.
00:58:43
Speaker
um Sirius says, that's not a rat. And Lupin says, he's an animagus that goes by the name of Peter Pettigrew.
00:58:54
Speaker
Dun, dun, dun. And that is how we close out our discussion today, ladies and gentlemen. Mic drop. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury.
00:59:05
Speaker
see This scene literally is like a court session. like Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I beseech you. Harry Potter is guilty on all counts irresponsibleness.
00:59:19
Speaker
God love him. um Yeah. facts. I think this chapter gives you some more insight on the Marauders without giving you much. like i It's gonna come later. We're gonna get a lot of context in the next episode.
00:59:36
Speaker
um Because then we're gonna get some like real explanation of what the heck happened with Sirius and Peter. Why Peter's not dead. How did Sirius get out? We're gonna get to see the Time Turner next episode. One of my favorite scenes in the movie is that whole Shrieking Shack.
00:59:54
Speaker
Confrontation is one of my favorites. I did my waiting. 12 years of it in Azkaban. Did you see the thing that I posted on our story that was like... It was my quote, my serious black quote from my birth month and yours.
01:00:12
Speaker
Mine. Why don't you run along and play with your chemistry set? Yes. um Yes, I was checking. Next week's episode will be the last chapters of Prisoner of Askman.
01:00:23
Speaker
So we will get all of it. We will get the Snape confrontation. we will get the flashbacks. We will get the most One of the most stressful scenes in the entire series is in this book slash movie of them running from Remus.
01:00:43
Speaker
And it's the time turn- Oh, it stresses me out. I- This was the part of the movie that when I was a kid, I hid behind Dad because I was so scared.
01:00:55
Speaker
And I didn't watch this movie again until I was maybe like 12 years old. I would skip it when I would have- rewatches because it's freaked me out um i just don't like high anxiety situations oddly enough one of my favorite movie franchises jurassic park i don't know can't explain it i don't like high anxiety situations but i love those movies and the trailer for the new one looks hey okay we love jonathan bailey and his slutty little glasses That's what everyone's been calling it.
01:01:24
Speaker
I love it so much. Somebody said he's been named the hottest archaeologist or paleontologist. And I was like, facts. Mm-hmm. Facts were made.
01:01:35
Speaker
Sorry, Ross Keller. Okay. um So, we're going to do our are usual ending. um I did add in a little extra little um thing that I think we could do at the end of each discussion now. yeah um New characters for this chapter discussion, though, we did introduce, finally, Sirius Black.
01:01:57
Speaker
Yeah. Thoughts on Sirius? Deranged. Very flawed yes individual. Yes. Which, in the words of, but to be fair, in his defense, in the words of Van Montgomery, the oak tree doesn't grow far from the place where the Gordon fell from.
01:02:13
Speaker
But, as far as impressions on him, ah based on what we know so far in this chapter, I would just say, like, a little unhinged. yes Not the most stable individual, but to be fair, if you were stuck in Azkaban 12 years, very stable.
01:02:29
Speaker
you would also be just but not not very stable Yes. Yes. Because they literally describe him as like deranged and ill and Harry's like, he's a little unhinged. It's fine. Everything's fine. This is my godfather? This was supposed to be... This was my godfather?
01:02:45
Speaker
Well, he doesn't even know that yet. So that's what's crazy. Wild times. Anyways. um Our new segment that I thought we could add in is favorite scenes from these chapter discussions.
01:02:58
Speaker
um Mine is... Hermione punching Draco. Yes. We love see it. But also the interaction with Snape and Lupin in the map because I think it gives us a lot of lore.
01:03:09
Speaker
it It's a good lore dump on the relationship between the Marauders and Snape without really giving you much. It's a little teaser. um And I just like seeing that interaction.
01:03:21
Speaker
Yeah. Mine would probably, one would be Remus and Sirius hugging it out. We love it. Star-crossed lovers who have found each other. Yep.
01:03:32
Speaker
And probably the Snape and Harry confrontation. Mm-hmm. Because you get to... Harry is automatically assuming this stuff and Snape's like, you don't even know half of it.
01:03:46
Speaker
it does It gives us a look into the fact that, like, Snape... Yes, he holds a grudge that he probably shouldn't, but he might not... He might have some reasoning. Oh, yeah. You get the the very, like...
01:04:01
Speaker
Because I think Dumbledore really shouldn't have told Harry what he told him about that. The reason Snape hates James so much is because James saved his life. Da da da da da.
01:04:13
Speaker
It's like, I don't think you should tell that because that really put James on a pedestal. Whereas, like, James was flawed too. James didn't have the best. And it it made it look like Snape's just petty.
01:04:27
Speaker
And while I do think he's definitely very petty... he But there is some reasoning behind it. He made his life miserable at school. I don't think Snape was fully innocent in that. but No. there's There's both. There's two sides to it. Yes.
01:04:45
Speaker
Yes, Snape is not the greatest person. And... But here's the thing. It makes it really bad because if they put James on a pedestal and, like... You forget, like, James still went along with it. Even though he backed out of it last minute, he still went along with it in the beginning.
01:05:03
Speaker
So, not the greatest. Nope. And we see in the later books, in Half-Blood Prince, a, like, when Harry takes a peek into Snape's mind, he sees the scene where James is, like, using magic to hold him upside down. Everyone's laughing and they're joking about, like, they're teasing him in front of everybody, and it's just humiliating, and it's sad, and it's, you know, yeah, it's little depressing.
01:05:35
Speaker
All right. um Hallie, would you like to lead us into our question of the week discussion? So, going back to last week's question, do you think Hermione was right in telling Professor McGonagall about Harry receiving the fireball?
01:05:49
Speaker
We did get question, we did get an answer back from Love Bethany Shea. Shout out. um With them saying, yes, Harry got a super pricey gift randomly while there was a killer on the loose. Would have been so pissed if she did it to me, though.
01:06:07
Speaker
Yes. Very valid. Valid. Receiving gifts. Meanwhile, there' there's a killer on the loose. Don't know who it's from. Yeah. Aspicious. I mean, I get why he's upset because it's like, bro, like, have you seen this thing? Like, I don't let me have a broom. Let me live. Let me have something. But also, like, bro.
01:06:26
Speaker
precautions yes um so this week's question of the week is would you enjoy a class like divination with trelawny or would you dislike it like hermione i personally would love divination don't know i i think i would like it but i think trelawny being the teacher would put me on edge like i don't yeah i don't think i would like it with trelawny Yeah, because she seems a little, meh.
01:06:57
Speaker
I think I'd be like Minerva. Because Minerva does say, like, some people possess the true gift. She doesn't think that Trelawney has it. she um I, well, and I don't think that she doesn't think Trelawney has it. I think she just thinks Trelawney embellishes a lot to get students' attention.
01:07:15
Speaker
Like, I wouldn't love to go to a class where the teacher on the first day tells which student's gonna die, which student's gonna become deathly ill, which student's gonna, like, break their leg. Like, no.
01:07:27
Speaker
I don't want to know all that. don't need to know all that. So... I don't know. Or, oh, you have the grim, you're gonna die. yeah Like, don't tell me that. I think I relate to Hermione in this specific situation.
01:07:40
Speaker
I think if it was just, if we're just going based off, would I like a class like Divination? Yes. Yes. With Trelawney? No. Probably not, no. Um, because I do enjoy, like, I...
01:07:53
Speaker
think you know obviously like we both like stuff like supernatural and we watch sam and colby videos like that kind of stuff is interesting to and i like the idea of tarot cards and all that jazz so like i think a class like that would be interesting for sure yeah all right okay uh so on to our hogwarts house poll
01:08:25
Speaker
I'm not saying that, Carmen. I pulled prank on Hallie and put a quote in her color. Continue with the thing and I'll read what I wrote.
01:08:37
Speaker
Now, before so Nine votes total. Hufflepuff. Hufflepuffs are still in the lead with three votes, three Ravenclaw, two do Gryffindor, and one Slytherin. Now, to be fair, yes, I am a Gryffindor.
01:08:54
Speaker
And yes, I still love Hufflepuff. Why else would I be recording with you? The underrated houses are pulling ahead. Thank you. Shout out to everyone. Please continue to vote.
01:09:05
Speaker
Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws. We're in it. We're in it, guys. We're in it to win it. um I put in Hallie's colored font on the dock. My name is Hallie, and as a proud Gryffindor, I admit that Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw are the superior houses.
01:09:19
Speaker
Hello. You can say it. Go ahead. You can admit it. We're great. Yes, I love Hufflepuff. We're great. We deserved more attention in the movie. Yes, you yes, y'all deserve more attention. More than Slytherin got. The Ravenclaws deserved more than what they got with Cho Chang. yeah Hufflepuff deserved more than what they got with what happened to Cedric. Well, yeah. Because Cedric was a good one. He was a good egg.
01:09:45
Speaker
And then, bye. That's my son! He was the spare. He's my boy! It's unfortunate. That's what sucks about being the Hufflepuffs. You're the spare. Always.
01:09:56
