Episode Introduction: Switch 2 and E3 Reimagined
00:00:13
Speaker
up everybody welcome to the logon games podcast for friday september the eighth
00:00:21
Speaker
On this episode, we're going to be talking about the Switch 2 a little bit. It has been shown behind closed doors to some developers at GBC, I think it was. And so we're going to talk about that as well as E3 reinventing itself, some people leaving, they may be leaving Los Angeles, et cetera.
Andrew's Absence and Japan Adventures
00:00:46
Speaker
Andrew is in Tokyo. He did not respond, or I guess he's in Japan somewhere. He did not respond to my text asking if he wanted to be on the podcast, so. Jerk. He's probably asleep. I do know we wanted to try and do something at some point, but we'll see if it works out. Matthew, you have been gone for a couple weeks.
00:01:11
Speaker
Now you're no longer, you no longer have a brick wall. You have a wooden, two wooden doors. So for now, I took a pretty high res picture of my brick wall before I left. Let's see if I can green screen it behind me at some point. How, what's up. Have you had time to play any games? Are you moved
Matthew's New Space and Gaming Setup
00:01:28
Speaker
in? Tell us what's cracking. Uh, everything is moved in the house, except for the things that aren't.
00:01:38
Speaker
No, everything's moved in except for, um, we have a few things we need to buy couches. We need couches. We need a couch. We need a couple of desks and things like that.
00:01:48
Speaker
But what do we do in TV wise? Um, I still have my same TV that I had, um, which is our main TV. And it's really, I'm not too worried about TV wise. I'm worried about monitor wise. I got to get a monitor to have here in this year office. Um, that will kind of be the main gaming station, I think for my stuff. I don't know. We'll move back and forth. We'll see game station 64 game stations. Yeah.
00:02:17
Speaker
at 10.0.64. Do you have anything plugged up yet? Not up yet? Yeah, my PC's plugged in. Yeah,
First Impressions of Starfield
00:02:26
Speaker
I played, I don't know, two whole hours maybe of Starfield. Pretty downloaded it. Thoughts are it's in 60 frames on PC. So that's the biggest thoughts. Or whatever frames you can run it on. And if I had to play it on Xbox in 30 frames, I don't know that I would.
00:02:47
Speaker
Like I'm only, I'm only playing it because it's free or part of game pass. Um, but even then only because it's on PC, but I mean, I don't have a lot of thoughts cause I've only played a couple of hours, but I'd like to get into it. Um, I don't know, maybe this weekend or something. We'll see. You know, obviously there's still a lot of moving things that to do. I'm trying to play some here and there. I've probably played more sea of stars than starfield, which I like so far. So many stars. Yeah. Way different game though.
00:03:18
Speaker
Yes, Sea of Stars looks cool.
Starfield Reviews and Community Feedback
00:03:21
Speaker
I know it's got a bunch of good reviews too. We talked about Starfield a lot last week. Have you played? No, as more people playing it and more reviews come out, it's
00:03:37
Speaker
less and less likely that I play it. I initially was going to download it and at least try it. But since it's basically just a giant space simulation game, I think I would download and play No Man's Sky before because I could play it multiplayer with people.
00:03:55
Speaker
Sure. That makes sense. And then there's there's a lot of people being like, how you need to play the game is you need to just go straight through, beat all the story missions to get the new game. Plus, that's when the game really opens up. And then there's people like, you know, the first is one of those games where it's like first, you know, five to 10 hours, you just got to get through it and then the game really opens up. So I don't have time or want to not enjoy a game for five to 10 hours to then maybe enjoy. Yeah.
00:04:25
Speaker
I listened to the kind of funny guys kind of go through their reviews because they've been they've had it for a few weeks now. And there's a couple of them that have played one that has played 80 hours or 70 hours, something like that one that's played like 45, something of that nature. And both of them said like, the game's pretty good. Like I think four out of five ish is what they said. I think that's correct. But in both cases,
00:04:53
Speaker
They've played like five to 10 hours of new game plus, and they're like, I feel like now it's what star field is meant to be.
Game of the Year Debate: Baldur's Gate 3 vs Starfield
00:05:02
Speaker
So sending an 86 Metacritic score.
00:05:06
Speaker
Yeah, I do think it's being propped up a little bit by some Xbox reviews. I can think it's probably more like an 80, 82, which is still solid. Yeah. Um, you like, typically you've liked the Bethesda, like you fall out boy. I do fall out boy.
00:05:25
Speaker
So when people like like the kind of funny review guys when it's like this is a very Bethesda game or whatever I'm just like it's not for me. Let me say that just not well I'm not a person that got into fallout. I played Skyrim Five times for ten hours, you know through the years So I'm just like and I have I have games to play. So I'm just like yeah, yeah
00:05:47
Speaker
I said last week, I would only download it because I'm curious on how smooth the 30 frames per second is. That's the only reason I would try it out. Do you know what the download is on Xbox? Size? I have no idea. I think it was 141 on PC, something like that. I would assume it's less than that, but we did do something last week and I'm not...
00:06:08
Speaker
saying that Starfield's not a good game, not saying that a lot of people are going to love it. It's just not an Andrew Fleming type of game. But we, me, Carlos, I don't think you haven't podcast with Carlos yet. No, but he's done a good job of watching him on here. Yeah. Um, and Andrew last week, I don't know if you watched last week.
00:06:29
Speaker
Um, half a blessing me. Where is it? We changed the game of the year. Yeah, I know. I heard that we did. Yeah. I heard that. It took out starfield and put balder escape three and simply because in a year of 90 and above's on Metacritic. Yeah. That's, I feel like even, I don't know. We just, that's just what we did. I feel more confident saying at the end of the year, Jeff Keeley,
00:07:01
Speaker
Gives us the nominees. We'll see Baldur's Gate three before we see Starfield. I don't
E3 Game Lineup Speculation
00:07:05
Speaker
think so. I think you're more likely to see both of them or just Starfield. Like Baldur's Gate may be on there, but if Baldur's Gate's on there, Starfield thinks on there too. I also feel now, we talked a little bit about this last week.
00:07:19
Speaker
that if Starfield is going to be on it, I think Diablo four would probably get knocked off simply because the fall off since launch has been, I guess really the fall off since season one has been mighty. Yeah. Not as far as like quality, but just like, as far as people playing the game and it being in the conversation after season one, it's just like, no one's talking about.
00:07:41
Speaker
I think that Diablo and Baldur's Gate are probably fighting for more of a similar spot. Starfield is very different from both of those.
00:07:50
Speaker
And we still have games to come. Yes, that's possible. So, yeah. Yeah, I, you know, I got kind of excited about the Baldur's Gate thing because of just all the stuff I've heard and stuff. And then I kind of went and I watched some people play just from the beginning, just for a few hours kind of thing. And I don't know, I got less excited about it. I wasn't excited about it. And then all the hype got me excited about it. And then I watched people play and I was less excited.
00:08:18
Speaker
One day, I feel like it'll show up on game pass or PlayStation plus or something. And I think a bunch of us will get it and probably try it for like a couple of days weekly or something just to see. I think, um, it clicks. I think some of the older ballers gates are on game pass. If I'm not incorrect, maybe I'm wrong on that, but I feel like they are.
00:08:40
Speaker
Well, we want to welcome everybody to the Logon Games Podcast.

00:11:23
Speaker
We have, we have hit rumor season. All the shows are over. As I
Switch 2 Capabilities and Tech Demo
00:11:29
Speaker
say that it is September, you know, rumors have been still on the PlayStation showcase, but it was rumored to happen this month or next month or something. So keep our eyes on that. But rumor season has officially begun since all the shows are over.
00:11:46
Speaker
Um, and things are being speculated upon, but one thing happened to Gamescom and I'm reading this from GameSpot.com. Nintendo has reportedly given a sneak peek of the Switch's successor to game developers behind closed doors at Gamescom.
00:12:07
Speaker
As detailed in a report from Eurogamer, there were developer presentations for Nintendo's next machine and partners were shown tech demos of how well it was designed to run.
00:12:18
Speaker
One demo reportedly was more powerful, was a more powerful Switch version of the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild that was designed, I wanna say this is a typo, I don't know this for sure. I read another article, I'm pretty sure that said Tears of the Kingdom. I would assume that's when they ship off and not Breath of the Wild. Either way. Was designed to hit the system's higher specifications. However, Eurogamer clarified,
00:12:45
Speaker
that what was shown was reportedly a tech demo. There's no suggestion that Breath of the Wild would be ported over to the new system. It also should be taken as a hint that the system is back, isn't, I'm sorry, I said this last week. I have contacts and now my brain's still getting used to having contacts after not wearing contacts for like eight months.
00:13:09
Speaker
Um, it also shouldn't be taken as a hint that the system is backwards compatible, but I mean, if you're showing off tears of the kingdom, which is what I'm sure this is.
00:13:19
Speaker
At least the big games will probably be backwards compatible, compatible or at least ported over on day one, especially games like that. VGC, Crabber, Eurogamer's report also mentioning that Epic's The Matrix Awaken Unreal Engine 5 tech demo ran on the new system.
00:13:39
Speaker
It was originally released to show off the power of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X slash S. Additionally, the demo was reportedly using NVIDIA's DLSS upscaling technology with advanced ray tracing, which puts the Switch's successor closer to the visuals of current consoles. Good.
00:13:59
Speaker
While Nintendo hasn't publicly announced the new system, many are speculating that it will be released sometime in 2024. Reportedly, Nintendo wants to launch it sooner rather than later. Additionally, Nintendo previously said that it is concerned. Did you see this? Yeah, it's funky. I think it's just concerned about the transition. Yeah, concerned about the transition between the Switch and the next system, wanting to make it as smooth as possible.
00:14:28
Speaker
Nintendo Switch tells plenty of life before its successor arrives, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario RPG Remake, and WarioWare are slated to launch this fall. Initial thoughts? Initial thoughts are I think it is going to be as simple as
00:14:48
Speaker
Like a switch pro, I mean, it's got to be switched to, I mean, I'm saying like, you'll probably be able to play all the switch games. I don't think it's like a whole new, like you control it with your toes now or what, like, it's going to be just the same kind of thing with the switch is just maybe an improved version in all aspects. Um, the biggest deal is if it can run.
00:15:11
Speaker
Unreal five decently well, then you can run all the new games decently. Well, basically. So yeah, that's where my radar, my BS radar goes off of it saying visually, uh, where was it?
00:15:31
Speaker
switches successor closer to the visuals of current consoles. I don't know. I mean, every time these consoles come out, they have some crazy tech demos like look at these consoles can do and then that sure never really comes to fruition except for maybe by the very, very end.
00:15:50
Speaker
of the console's life where you get like the last of those on the PS3 kind of thing. Well, it doesn't need to be with the real people. It doesn't need to be on par with what's out now. It just needs to be able to run like a maybe downscaled version of it, right? Because you're, again, small thing. So you could be running that tech demo that's in 4K on the PS5. If you're running it on a 1080 or 1440 on the Switch, that's good enough. Yeah. Right. So I just want
00:16:20
Speaker
Similar to the Steam Deck for the next switch, really the only thing I care about is a bigger screen, a 1080p bigger screen and consistency with the frame rate. Somewhere between 30, 45, that's fine. Mostly we're just going to be playing Nintendo games on this thing anyway.
00:16:44
Speaker
So if I can get like on the steam deck, I try and hit 40, 45 frames a second on like a performance mode kind of thing for, for like the big, big big boy games. Like if I'm doing Elvin ring or like when I was doing the first remnant, uh, I was aiming for 40 and 45 frames a second and it was.
00:17:08
Speaker
running well, and then I got like on the first remnant, that's like probably four hours of battery on something like that.
Switch 2 Expectations: Performance and Pricing
00:17:19
Speaker
Um, or it's when I would play persona, which was 60 frames, but it's also a less taxing game. You could definitely get five to six hours. Right. Well, again, like that. So here's the deal. I don't want a switch that's as powerful as the new consoles, because if I do get one, it's going to be expensive.
00:17:37
Speaker
I want a switch that is powerful enough to still come in at a, at the lowest price point of all the consoles. And I can go, I want the option when the option when EA FC comes on, whatever pick a game, some game that comes out and everything that comes out. I want that option to go. Hmm. They might get this one in the switch. Like I just want that option.
00:18:01
Speaker
And it sounds to me like that's what they're shooting for. And let's be honest, that's really what this, the switch that's out now, that's what it was when it came out. It just did, you know, it got passed, right? So, um, I don't know, I can see it as being, you know, possible. Everything is in the article. I can see that being possible. Um, I do say the 20 to 24, like that's, it seems like that's earlier than I thought that it would be.
00:18:29
Speaker
though. And I think that that seems about right. I think the odds are like if we were in charge of the Vegas betting odds here, it's gonna be a switch to they may not call it a switch to but like, sure, it's gonna be a switch to probably the
00:18:48
Speaker
Uh, joy cons will probably be the same, like work on the whole thing. I would assume they may have some joy con plus thing for like the new switch two or whatever, even if it's called switch plus, that would be a Nintendo name, you know, right? Right. Um,
00:19:06
Speaker
And so I think a lot of things will be backwards compatible, if not everything is already rumored to have the cartridge slot anyway. So I kind of think everything will be. And I haven't said that. I kind of think I'll be surprised if everything's not backwards compatible. It'll be like the three when the three DS came out, you can still play the DS games. Yeah. Yeah. 100 percent. Yep. What do you think it's going to be called? I'm going to say I'm going to say I don't know, because
00:19:37
Speaker
You don't want to, and they may not even be thinking this hard about this, but in my brain, you don't want to make another Wii U situation where you have the Wii and the Wii U. People get confused. It's a different name, but it's the same. So calling it a Switch 2, I think is the safest bet because people know PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5.
00:19:59
Speaker
Um, but so if you do something like switch plus switch you or super switch the new switch, you know, like they did with the new three DS. That's the problem. Well, I think, well, they went from DS to three DS and it's like now that I don't know what DS the DS light three DS new three DS. I would just call it switch to switch. Yeah. And then switch three and then switch four, switch five, keep going down the line. Mm-hmm.
00:20:28
Speaker
Um, because it's, it's, I mean, as someone, you've worked at GameStop. I've worked at GameStop Best Buy. People come in when the Wii thing was happening, it was just like, when the Wii U thing, I worked at Best Buy during Wii U times and people would be like, do y'all have Wii's? And I'd be like, we have Wii U's. And they'd be like, oh no, that's not what I'm looking for. I'm just like, you don't understand how it works. It's the same thing.
00:20:54
Speaker
Do you, do you, this is for the viewers. Do you remember that time when I worked at GameStop when the Wii was, uh, the popular, the thing of the time where nobody had them in stock, you'd get like six to 12 of them a week at a store and they would be gone immediately and had an old guy that came in and asked me in South Carolina, Redneckville, South Carolina, uh, Hey, y'all got any of them wheezies?
00:21:19
Speaker
So you know what, sir, we don't have any other wonder if he asked that if he kept asking that one, the way you came out and you're like, we got the Weezy Yoozy's. If you weren't like the Weezy Yoozy. Yeah. I think, but in order to call, I will say in order to call it a switch to, or a switch, anything, it still has to switch, which means it would still have to dock and go that right. If it doesn't, I don't think you can still call it the switch.
00:21:43
Speaker
Yeah. And also it's like, they don't say, they don't say in this article, but was the demo that they show, was it, if this was the switch's successor, was this just like a video presentation? Did they have it there? And they were like, it is a switch. Like here's the doc, whatever. Were they showing it only in doc mode? Like all these kinds of things. We don't know. Like this thing where it says closer to the visuals of current consoles that may have been docked, you know,
Switch 2 Launch Timing and Transition
00:22:15
Speaker
It may have a beefy dock that you plug into it. It may not have been the handheld version. So I don't know. Yeah. Lots of questions. I will say the longer that it takes to come out. The more likely it is to be on par with the current generation of consoles, because just, just a pure like price deal, the longer it takes to come out, the cheaper the technology gets.
00:22:43
Speaker
Well, it says they wanted to make the switch and the next system as smooth a transition as possible, which if it's called a switch to everything's backwards compatible, that makes it a pretty smooth transition. Um, and then you just kind of do what, I mean, a lot of the games are going to be backwards compatible. I don't know what they're going to do new game wise, but I don't think it's been a long time since we've seen a Nintendo console.
00:23:13
Speaker
have to do like what PlayStation and Xbox are doing of like, at what point do we just say the switch doesn't exist anymore? And really have switched two games now, you know? Yeah, if this thing is anywhere near the new things and it has ray tracing on it, then you can forget.
00:23:28
Speaker
I mean, sure. I guess you could put out cloud versions, but nobody really wants that. So yeah, I don't know. I think the, the, the kicker for them really is just come out with it and get fully backwards compatible. You play any of the other switch games, whatever, and then start dropping some, Hey, Metroid prime three is only on the new one or like things of that nature. And then you'll it's Nintendo. They'll sell a million of these things. They sold a million switches.
00:23:55
Speaker
I mean, I assume more than new 3d. I'll be shocked if the new 3d Mario isn't day one on this new switch because we haven't seen it since first year or whatever. Yeah. First year that switch came out. I think prime is the first one prime three. We can get both because in the same year, maybe. Well, I know where it won't be announced and that's E3. You don't know. This comes from game industry.biz.
00:24:24
Speaker
PAX organizer Reed Pop will not be working on future E3 events the company and the ESA have announced. The ESA has also informed the Los Angeles Convention Center, which is the traditional home of E3, that it will not be putting a show on there in 2024.
00:24:41
Speaker
The ESA has not canceled plans for a 2024 event, but if one wants to go ahead, it won't take place at that venue. GameIndustry.biz understands that the trade body is also working on a complete reinvention of the E3 show for 2025. ReadPop, which is also the parent company of GameIndustry.biz, has signed a multi-year deal
00:25:02
Speaker
on E3 in 2023. However, first effort to relaunch the event failed to get off the ground and the planned 2023 showcase was canceled. The decision to end the relationship was a mutual decision. We appreciate Reed Pop's partnership over the last 14 months and support their ongoing efforts to bring the industry and fans together through various events. ESA President and CEO Stanley Pierre Lewis. Basically Reed Pop
00:25:34
Speaker
was making the E3 showcase. And now they are not doing that. And they are E3 reinventing themselves for 2025, but probably not in LA anymore as well. So yeah,
E3 Reinvention Strategy
00:25:47
Speaker
probably move it around or something. What a reinvention means. I don't know. I would assume they want it to be something, something like PAX in general, like a more consumer
00:26:00
Speaker
con kind of thing. Um, but who knows many thoughts for you. Maybe they'll do it in Boston. Hey, that packs. Well, probably not kiss packs East is here. So they're probably going to not do it where read pop does their things. Um, sounds to me like read pop was like, yeah, we should probably pull the plug on this E3 thing. And then they were like,
00:26:28
Speaker
No. And so then we're out. Yeah. And so I don't know. It needs a reinvention, at least I will say.
00:26:40
Speaker
from watching the summer games fest the last couple of years. It's nice to have the summer games fest, but it's not as good as what E3 was. And so there is still a place for that, but how they get back to that, I don't know. I don't even know if they can. I think summer game fest definitely is E3 replacement. Yes. But it's like, uh,
00:27:12
Speaker
I think it's more Jeff Keighley Jeff Keighley making sure that there's something PlayStation and Xbox and Nintendo at least do some kind of event even if it's like a state of play or an indie showcase or whatever all around the same month period as summer game fest to have to still kind of have that E3 magic going but
Comparing Summer Game Fest and E3
00:27:37
Speaker
And I think that will continue and Summer Game Fest will grow and the Summer Game Fest showcase in and of itself.
00:27:45
Speaker
is what it is. We usually get like one cool announcement, but then it's like two hours of just like stuff we've already heard before or whatever. Yeah. Gameplay showcases and stuff, which is fine for us. I mean, we get to watch it, react it, it's a good old time. I would assume, I say assume, I wouldn't be surprised at some point if some are gamefist. Like now they do media, like kind of how E3 used to be back in the day where it's like,
00:28:12
Speaker
All these games are now announced. Now you can come to LA to the summer game fest thing. If you are a media person developer, you get clearance and all that kind of stuff. You can go there and play all these games. So it's very exclusive specifically to people that are going to be selling the games, whether in store online or influencers and stuff like that. So that's true. I can see that part getting bigger though and end up
00:28:40
Speaker
Even in the LA convention center, because it's, you know, five, 10 years from now, it's grown to that point, but I don't think it will ever be let consumers in again. Cause one would make the argument that once consumers were allowed in, that's when it started going downhill and stop being what E3 was. Yeah, to some degree. I mean, they really should just, they only did the consumer thing for like three or four years, I think before it was canceled.
00:29:11
Speaker
Yeah. As far as like having just letting anybody in, if you buy tickets or whatever. Yeah. And that's when the people still do what they did and then have a, like, like two days of, you know, only, you know, media and then two days of consumer stuff and still get some of the, both of that. I don't know.
00:29:35

Jeff Kuehle did say, or I think it was a tweet this week that he said Summer Game Fest will be back next year in LA again, so. If I was E3, I would just pick a time of the year where nothing is happening, you know, like.
00:29:53
Speaker
Like February would probably honestly be a really, really good time because there's usually bangers that have come out January, February, March of the last five years. And it's, you know, it's way out of the way of summer.
00:30:10
Speaker
You're past the game awards time and you can kind of do your own like fan event, still call it E3. Um, so it has the name and then people can come there and maybe see the games that were announced at the game awards.
00:30:27
Speaker
play some of the demos of the games, either coming out or the big games that are out then and now, and then the stuff that's coming out in the summer. You can kind of get that whole thing. That's what I would do, but I would not have it in LA. I would have it in Atlanta and I would let it be free to everybody named Andrew. There you go. Cause you need to meet more Andrews. That's it. No, I mean, I think the best case scenario is that
00:30:57
Speaker
E3 exists again and Jeff Keeley and E3 just merge.
E3's Future and Potential Collaborations
00:31:04
Speaker
And it's just like E3 presented by Jeff Keeley. And he just does his thing with the E3 name. And then it just has the pull of both, you know, that'd be cool. Yeah. And I mean, I'm a perfect world, but I mean, I think it's gonna happen. I'm just saying that'd be perfect world.
00:31:19
Speaker
That's also when E3 killed itself was when they stopped letting Jeff Keeley do what he wanted to do. And he's like, I'm going to leave because you guys are being stupid. And then, I mean, three years later, E3 doesn't exist at all. And Jeff Keeley has three events here. So yeah. And he's the one, he's the one person in the video game industry that everybody likes. Yeah, exactly. Except E3.
00:31:49
Speaker
Maybe I'd be really interested to know if the ESA has called or contacted Jeff Keeley at any point. And from like three years ago to now being like, can we do something again? Yeah. Like we're sorry. Can we do something now? Can we do something in the future or whatever? Good question.
00:32:10
Speaker
We'll see, I mean, as of now, you know, when E3 was exploding, I'm just glad that we still have, you know, it's not like it used to be where it's like, PlayStation's on Saturday, Xbox is on Sunday, Nintendo's on Monday, like, just bang, bang, bang, and it's just like four or five days of utter chaos, but at least we get
00:32:32
Speaker
playstation two weeks before summer game fest and then we get xbox and then we get a nintendo direct obviously nintendo wasn't around that time this year we still got one just like a month later a month and a half later whatever it was but for the most part there is still
00:32:49
Speaker
a lot of news going on during that time. So yeah, I still haven't watched this last Nintendo thing about the 2d Mario. I heard good thing. I haven't watched it either. I've seen people talking about it. I feel like we all kind of know what to expect. I expect it to be nine out of 10. Really, really good. Really, really fun. Yeah. I've seen nothing that says otherwise. And I really don't need to watch
00:33:18
Speaker
a whole another 45 minutes of them talking. I'm sure it's not that long, but 15 to 20 minutes of them talking about it, to be honest with you, because I've played every 2D Mario that's come out. I don't currently have a Switch, so this will be the one that I haven't played at least for a little bit until Switch 2 or whatever. Did you play Maker? No, I don't count that. I watched a lot of it though.
00:33:44
Speaker
Yeah, I watched a lot of people play the really, really hard levels on Super Mario maker. A lot of the competitions and stuff like that. That was pretty cool. People are ridiculous. And they make you feel like you suck at the game. Made me feel like I'm very bad at the game, but yes, I can watch these people ball out. Well, that's all I have on the docket for today. So this is going to be a short one. Do any final thoughts, anything you want to talk about?
00:34:14
Speaker
No, I'm excited to dive into starfield a little bit more and see, um, if it grabs me or not, because you mentioned me being more of a Bethesda guy than you, which is true, but I am not a Bethesda. Like I'm not in love with Bethesda games by any stretch. Like, yeah.
00:34:30
Speaker
Some of the fallout games I like, some of them are okay. Skyrim is phenomenal. Um, but I'm not like super, like I'll probably play whatever the next Elder Scrolls game is, but I'm not super pumped. Like I'm not like crazy looking forward to it, you know? So I liked, I like them and.
00:34:53
Speaker
I'm just interested to play this a little bit more. See the last games that I even played that had the Bethesda name on it that I completed was the evil within and the evil within two. There you go. Um, and that team did high five rush recently. So like they make good games. Yeah. Um, and evil, then evil and then two are really, really good. I know some people crap on evil than two, but I just don't think you'll play the game and you go back and play. Um, I,
00:35:22
Speaker
have been playing a lot of Overwatch too. And mainly the new support character and just mowing down people, just mowing them down. I think I'm going to hook the PlayStation up tonight. And so we make him play some of that tonight. I'm going to see, I feel like in the last place that I lived, the way that I had to go.
00:35:46
Speaker
to kind of route internet in order to get hardwired internet to the PlayStation. I feel like cause some latency that I felt an overwatch more than any other game. And so I'm going to run straight to the gateway and have a gigabit. So we'll see what happens. Nice. Um,
00:36:10
Speaker
But playing that rocket new season of Rocket League started like yesterday or something like that. So I'm sure we'll hop back in there at some point. The new Destiny raid came out last weekend and tried contest mode, which is super hard mode. I was actually found a really, it was just a lottery chance to find a really good team like randomly on the website or LFG or anything like that.
00:36:38
Speaker
But I found a random team at launch. Uh, and there, we were really, really good, but they only had like, they're like four of them had to leave in like four hours. I guess they're all friends or they all work together or something. I don't know. So like we had four hours, four to five hours that we did it. It's four encounters and the whole thing. And we beat the first two in about four hours and then everybody got off.
00:37:03
Speaker
And I feel like we actually may have been able to do it. I don't know if they got back on later and did it. I tried to get with like three or four teams after the fact, and it was just like, holy moly. Everyone's just terrible at this game, which is what contest mode is supposed to make you feel like. But.
00:37:20
Speaker
So I quit that and then I got on with Monroe and some random people and we went through the whole thing after Contest Mode was over. It's really, really fun. New season of Destiny. I'm liking better than the last season so far. So I've been on Destiny quite a bit. There's new gauntlets that dropped this season for solo lost sectors. And I did about 10 to 15 of them last night to try and get them and they still have not dropped because the game hates me.
00:37:50
Speaker
So there you go. There's that I saw him in row on halo the other night we both actually hopped on halos the other night and Because I was curious I was like I hadn't been on he's like, let's go over and play some stuff Okay, we whenever played some doubles and stuff. It was fine but we got on I was looking at the game modes and I was like Where's ranks like team Slayer and he's like it's not on here. I was like
00:38:17
Speaker
Why? I was like, what rank modes are on here? It's like there's only ranked arena and ranked like a SWAT or something like that at the moment. He's like, they switch him out every once in a while. I was like, still can't play ranked team Slayer on a Halo game. Still boggles my mind. And so I don't plan on playing that game anymore, to be honest with you. I was just so upset then I was like, I would have just signed off right then because like, that's the one thing that I want to play the most.
00:38:44
Speaker
And it's not even available to play still. Yep. I understand that. But yeah, we were on halo for a little bit. Upcoming games. What are we looking at? Cities
Upcoming Games Anticipation
00:38:59
Speaker
Skylines 2 is month and a half away. That's the game I'm most looking forward to currently.
00:39:06
Speaker
Um, starfield just came out, obviously. Um, I'm actually really looking forward to whenever the heck extra fine is supposed to drop because we played the beta. A lot of us, me, me, Colby Monroe Tanner. I don't know if you played the beta was ever at all. Um, I'm going to be honest with you. I'm not sure what that is.
00:39:27
Speaker
It's the people or some people from Call of Duty left to make their own studio to make a game that competes with Call of Duty. I know what you're talking about. I would say it's 70 percent Call of Duty, 30 percent Overwatch, because like they have like
00:39:49
Speaker
the game mode where you have the cart and you have to go to the end of the map and stuff like that. You pick like your class and each class has its own abilities and its own super stuff like that. So basically, like when it comes to abilities and game modes and stuff like that, think Overwatch, but just with Call of Duty, like gameplay, gameplay and stuff like that. And we had a really, really fun time. We played the crap out of it for like three days straight.
00:40:12
Speaker
And we got to the point where I was like, this game is really, really fun, but we can't like get XP going into our like classes and stuff that we were building because it was only the beta. So like, you can only go do so much. So I'm really excited to get in there and like find which class I want to be. I was using the, whatever the healer one was, which I think was, it wasn't Splinter Cell.
00:40:39
Speaker
It may have been the division had the, like they, I forget what the actual name, but like the class has like a class name, but it's also tied to a game. So it'll be like splinter cell division, rainbow six siege, far cry, whatever. Um.
00:40:55
Speaker
And then in, in like those, there's different things as well. So it's a fun time. And they said it was supposed to come out this summer. Every time they talked about like still coming out this summer and the last day of summer technically is like September 20 something. So I'm excited for that game to drop. I think it's just going to randomly drop one day. It'll be like, it's like a random Tuesday or Thursday or something. It'll be like, it's out now kind of deal. Is it a free to play? Yeah, it's free to play. Cool.
00:41:25
Speaker
Yeah, Liza P's coming up here in two weeks. Week and a half. I don't care about it, but I know it's definitely got some height behind it. NBA 2K24 comes out September 8th, tomorrow. Today, when are you listening to this? I'm so... I tweeted about this. I'm so utterly confused.
00:41:50
Speaker
upset, curious, so many emotions about NBA 2K24, because for the last month and a half, two months, you could pre-order this game. And we still haven't seen gameplay.
00:42:06
Speaker
Like, yeah, there's people streaming. Uh, there's been gameplay and there's been people streaming the park mode. Yeah. But
NBA 2K24 Pre-Launch Confusion
00:42:14
Speaker
as far as just like, here's an NBA team, NBA team gameplay, like watch these two minutes of gameplay that still hasn't happened. The game comes out here in six hours today. Yeah. Yeah. So it's like, um, I've been so confused on, and it's like, you're taking.
00:42:32
Speaker
create orders for a game that you haven't even shown off. It makes me very, very upset. And they've shown gameplay in like, like little 10 second, like reels or tweets of just like, here's what the move looks like in real life. And here's what it looks like in the game. It's like, yes, but does it really play that way? No one knows. Yeah, but here's the deal. Two K's got their issues with their sports game, but their issues are not gameplay.
00:43:00
Speaker
But yes, but it has kind of been that way. It's been like Madden for the last, I would say three years, where it's just like, you play the game and you're like, the game plays still fun, but you've done nothing, you've changed nothing. And then it's got to the point where it's like, because it's been the same for three years, everybody's exploited the crap out of the game now, where it's like, you play somebody and it's like, well, there's this one move that you can't stop, like,
00:43:26
Speaker
You do this one combination of dribble moves and you're going to get past the guy to go to the rim and it's unstoppable. Yeah. And so kind of like in Madden, like there's certain plays every year, it's like, this play is unstoppable. And then they'll, they'll maybe fix it, but then it's the next year where they're like, Oh, you can't really run stretches as well this year because last year stretch plays just dominated or whatever. Sure. So the difference is in Madden's gameplay was never really that good in the first place. Two cases have been good to start with. So.
00:43:55
Speaker
So I mean, I don't, everything that they've said, it kind of seems like they're taking a jump in gameplay this year, but I don't know. Cause they can seen it except for my part mode. And that's where they make their money anyways. So the 100 and this is like a little sporty for a second, the $150 version of NBA 2k 24, which is like their big Mac daddy version comes with NBA league pass.
00:44:21
Speaker
which by itself, if you just get the normal version that has commercials, I think it's like a hundred bucks. So you're basically, which is something I get every year, but normally I get the version above that, which is commercial free. So like whatever, whatever things they're doing in the stadium is what you watch. So like the kiss cam and the halftime show and all that kind of stuff.
00:44:43
Speaker
It's way more entertaining to me than whatever commercials, you know, I bet you love a good kiss cam. Oh my gosh. When the kiss cam comes on, I just scream Emily kiss cam. She comes running. You know what I mean? And so, uh, or they'll do, you know, and then halftime shows are sometimes cool or whatever, but it's like, you also get like watch the huddles. And if anything's going on during that, it's more, I don't, I don't need to see Jack in the box commercials or whatever I'm going to be getting.
00:45:09
Speaker
So I don't know and I've emailed them and I've tweeted at them and I still don't know what version of League Pass you get because there's the one team version where you only get one team, could be that. I would assume it's just the regular League Pass that's a hundred bucks.
00:45:23
Speaker
Um, but if it's the premium version, like, which I think it's just like one 20, cause they basically cut all their league pass prices in half last year. Like it used to be 200 plus and now it's a hundred or a one 20 for the premium or whatever, which is crazy for all the teams, every game for like a hundred dollars is insanity. Um, but that's what I assume it is, which would mean the game is like $50, but at the same time, like.
00:45:52
Speaker
Do I want to play NBA 2K24? I don't know. Hadn't seen the game. Hadn't seen the gameplay. And that's my rant for 2K24, but we'll see. Um, life's be September 29th, Mortal Kombat one September night or September 19th for both of those. Um, and then we'll get into the October madness, but any other final thoughts?
00:46:18
Speaker
for you in this thing. No, I was just looking through the leak past thing trying to find something, but they don't really say a lot. Well, we want to thank everybody for listening. I think Andrew is still going to be in Japan next week. We may get some sort of video call or prerecorded thing or something. We'll see. But that's going to do it for us here. We will be with you all again next.
