Speaker
Roll the clip! No gaming's really about Brian?
00:00:46
Speaker
Um, with us on this episode today, we have the whole crew of hoes. Wow. I mean, it's wrong. It's us. And then at the end of the podcast, we're going to take bets on who would be the better hoe if it were to come to it. Who would make the most money? Carlos. I'm a little.
00:01:00
Speaker
Oh, what? I don't know. I was vibing. Are we vibing?
00:01:10
Speaker
You can find among the streets of Atlanta at ruffle on my waffles. We have Carlos when it's on the podcast. I don't know if my mic's gonna be putting this up now, but Carlos what's happening?
00:01:25
Speaker
You know, man, just, you know, Destiny is back. I think it's back back, baby. That's where my free time has been when I'm not taking care of life responsibilities. And it's been great. I'm very much looking forward to Pantheon. I don't know if you saw the post this afternoon, but going to be running some Pantheon for free. I'm excited. It's a DPS check. Yeah, we were in Pantheon.
Current Gaming Experiences
00:01:56
Speaker
cleared it. Yes, we did it. We did it. Nice. Do you guys how long did it take to clear? Four hours, four hours. All right. So I know we're starting at seven. And well, when you when you know what you're doing, it's quick. But I think a lot of us haven't done that content in like a year or two. It's been a long time. It's like refreshing. And then everyone getting in sync and then the flow and the game not screwing you over, you know,
00:02:22
Speaker
Yeah, I was watching cross play through all of them. I was just like, good Lord, it's it's been a long time. So every and caretaker, yeah, go to Roth. I mean, so that's going to be interesting. Definitely trying to get in on it this week so I can start getting that, you know, negative 500 before it starts getting more difficult. Apparently, you can go back, though, and do like. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you can go back and just do whatever difficulty you want. Yeah.
00:02:48
Speaker
Also, with us on the podcast, you can find him on the streets of New York City, the Big Apple. The streets. At the zurker, I guess he's brown boy now. Work in the corners. What's cracking, Andrew? Frigging Destiny, baby. Let's go! No, so what's funny is I'm usually a one game at a time guy. Right now, I'm playing three games at the same time.
00:03:18
Speaker
You really are. I'm playing three TVs or I'm playing. Oh, no, no, no, no, nothing. I'm playing Cat Quest, which is actually an older video on that. Yeah. I'm on Cat Quest. I'm playing No Rest for the Wicked, the new game for Moon Studios, who made Ori and Destiny. So, heck yeah. Isn't Cat Quest just stray? No. I don't know how straight could be better than this game, in my opinion, but I don't know. I mean, I know nothing about Cat Quest.
00:03:48
Speaker
After playing Stray, I feel like Cat Quest could have been an alternate title. Stray, you're a cat, but are you really on a quest, you know? You're on multiple quests. Are you just living your life? You'd be questing lots, man. We quest every day now. You can find him on the streets of Boston! Boston! Oh, boy. We got Matthew with us on.
Podcast Interaction & Engagement
00:04:13
Speaker
Yo, yo. That's the role. Matthew, what's crack-a-lacking?
00:04:19
Speaker
Destiny. I did download Destiny, but I haven't opened it still. That's not your account, that's fair. So, some MLB The Show, and then actually, if you listened to the pod last week, I was informed of Predecessor, and that is the game I play the most since I was informed of it. So, lots of Predecessor ring. If you're not familiar with it, if you ever played the old Paragon game that Epic Games made until they stopped working on it in order to put all the resources towards this new game that was popping off called Fortnite,
00:04:50
Speaker
They've now like released all of the assets to these companies to make some remakes of the game if they want to and predecessor is the one that Stands above them all And honestly just feels like you're playing Paragon just better graphics and it's really really good. So that's what they should have called it paragon with better graphics. I
00:05:10
Speaker
beta alpha. I mean, but I mean, like legitimately same characters, same basic movesets, everything from. All right. Hold the phone. Hold the phone. Wait, what? Super chat. Look who decided to show up. No way. Oh, my goodness. No way. Neil, the deal deal, Neil. No way.
00:05:32
Speaker
Apparently, he didn't get eaten by a tornado. He's alive. That's good. I thought it was a shark. I am that dude's shadow. That's what it was. IRL. That's true. Neil, come back. You're going to have to get Neil. I think you're still on our Discord. You're always open. I'll pop in. Love him. He's enjoying us. We got to do an epic trivia. Nintendo only. Carlos, were you ever on when Neil was on?
00:06:01
Speaker
I know, but I remember the you know, the spirit of Neil. I remember because we were talking about the yeah, the lore of that trivia. Yeah. Episode trivial, trivial lore. Yeah. Yeah, well. That was my brown brother. Now you've replaced himself. He's on his phone and he's on his phone in the Sharknado watching this right. Sharknado. Yeah. Just punching sharks in the face.
00:06:30

00:07:35
Speaker
right before we go live or sometime during the day before we go live so follow us over there like subscribe and donate a million dollars please we totally really need this for making the best stream possible listen if you're watching this and you have a spare million dollars and you're like
00:07:56
Speaker
This is 720p. This is bull crap. I should donate a million dollars. I promise you will be in 1080p next week. Yeah. And like the merch or something. Hey, with that kind of money, I think our first shirts. I mean, I think this goes without saying should be white Andrew and brown Andrew, two separate shirts. And we just see which one sells more. Oh, my God. Wow.
00:08:23
Speaker
I thought you're going to go to the liquid solid Andrew out, but hey, we can do that, too. I was also thinking if it was like a T-shirt that was split. So it's like white, black, and there's like negatives of us. Yes. Yeah, that would be we'll come out right. Like when the freaking like people start voting for a presidential election, like as soon as the presidential election stuff is in full force, that's when we come out with the shirt. Mm hmm. One side says white. The other side says we.
00:08:53
Speaker
Yep, topical, oh my gosh. Let's get into some stuff. We've had some Xbox news this week. These old thumbnail, you know what's about to go down. But first, it's official. I'm reading this from theverge.com.
00:09:13
Speaker
Microsoft is officially holding its Xbox Summer Showcase on June the 9th. Verge reported earlier this month the showcase will air on Sunday, June the 9th, 10 a.m. Pacific Time, 1 p.m. Eastern Time, 6 p.m. if you're over in the UK. That was more Australian, I'm sorry. And we'll include a deep dive into the next installment of Call of Duty after the main show.
00:09:37
Speaker
Microsoft is only teasing the Call of Duty direct as the next installment of a beloved franchise. The source is familiar with the company's plans. Tell me it's indeed Call of Duty.
Xbox Games Coming to PlayStation?
00:09:46
Speaker
Also, if you look at the freaking. Yeah, you can tell it's Call of Duty. It's just it's in Call of Duty style and it's redacted, which seems very Call of Duty-esque. Top secret. Top secret. Don't don't tell him it's Call of Duty.
00:10:03
Speaker
Um, really nothing else to say, but I know some, the summer game fest stream, I believe is June the seventh. I should be home for all these. So we should be doing live reactions right here. Wherever you're watching the listening, uh, the seventh is the seventh is the raid. Mm. Mm hmm.
00:10:29
Speaker
Mm hmm. Uh, which I unfortunately won't be a part of neither final shape drop. I know it. I think Bungie just hates me. Hates our fire team. You don't know about that Saturday, then you still be out of town. I'll be back that Saturday. I don't know what the flights looking like back. Hmm.
00:10:51
Speaker
But see, even if I came back on like that Friday or whatever, like I don't have, you know, I haven't had a chance to jump into like the campaign, so I won't be ready, ready either. Thanks, Activision. Thanks. Thanks, Activision. I'm trying to see exactly when Summer Game Fest stream is. It's doing some weird stuff.
00:11:20
Speaker
Yeah, it was turning into a cool like rhythm. I was getting down. I'm trying to find. So it is definitely June 7th. Why aren't you telling me time? OK. Oh gosh. Why are you doing this to me, Jeff Keeley? 5 p.m. Eastern time. Right in the thick of it. Yeah. So we have a decision to make.
00:11:41
Speaker
I'm going to make it right now because we are 36 days, three hours, 18 minutes and 12 seconds away. You don't want my vote stream. You definitely don't want. You don't want my vote. What if we did the reactions live while doing the rate? Just like one screen you're reading. Oh, dude, that'd be so good. Trying to keep up with the stream and have like two streams going on. What if we hire lookalikes? To be on the podcast for us. Yeah.
00:12:09
Speaker
For who would you who would you pick if you can pick a celebrity to play you in something? Who would you? Bill Skarsgard. That is he plays Pennywise. Got my mic sound better now, but yes, it sounds he's the one who's the new crow, right? Yes, he's also the new crow. He's also I was told I mean, it's a lot of stuff.
00:12:39
Speaker
I was told when I was in like elementary school or maybe he's like middle school that I looked a little bit like Shia LaBeouf at that when he was that age, too. OK, we were both really young and now he's like bearded. So maybe I just would go with that. I could see where we're putting the ending movie casting stars right now. I'm going to get the brown dude from Heroes. Hey, freaking love those that show. What if you don't remember his name is? Yeah, but that guy.
00:13:11
Speaker
And Carlos were waiting. For me, you're the only one that hasn't answered. Um, I will get. Oh, well. No, who was the who was that quarterback for the Seahawks? I got told a lot of times when I was working in the industry, I don't know where back anymore, but Russell Wilson.
00:13:30
Speaker
Russell Wilson, I got Russell Wilson. So it was Russell Wilson. I you know, we might be related, but I don't feel like I don't want to give my like ancestry information. Oh, that's fair. That's fair. Yeah. So he could play a terrible actor. Why is that racist? He's brown. I'm brown. I mean.
00:13:51
Speaker
No, it's okay. There's more brown. We'll have them on the podcast. Join us now. Join us. Russell Wilson. I want Rebecca Black to play me for the. She should play. It'll be like one of the old Eddie Murphy movies. So he just plays everybody. It'll just be Rebecca Black playing. Neil says he can play a white Andrew. Play what? White Andrew. You. He can play you. Oh, of course.
00:14:19
Speaker
That's what he's been up to this whole time. He's been doing mine, working on mine. He's working on your impression. You know, there's those people that have like social media, like Instagram and stuff who do like the exact lookalikes of celebrities like Keanu Reeves. And some of those people will like trade up, get like surgery to look more like that person. There's like a Korean, I think it's Korean Vin Diesel. Wait, what? Yeah. Some of those people make some money doing it too. They do. They really do. Hold on. I got to Google this. Korean. I think it's Korean.
00:14:48
Speaker
Thing he's Korean turns out He's an alien, um Okay, we'll figure out the end of this Derailed quite a bit. Yes. I have to find it. No, I have to find it Wow Korean Vin Diesel Tyler he's tight. He's tight. He's from Thailand. Oh
00:15:10
Speaker
That's racist. He said he's Korean. Those of you out there listening in wanting video game news, this is really kind of how much we care about college. I just want you to know that's true. Is there rumors about the Destiny One Tower being in Call of Duty? Did you hear about this? What? Yeah.
00:15:30
Speaker
There he is. OK, that's cool that you could do that. I like that. I like. Oh, God. That's funny. I've been seeing like tweets on Twitter about like the testing one tower in Call of Duty or something like that. Am I am I reading something weird? OK. I mean, I don't attempt to know Call of Duty at all, so I have no idea.
00:15:56
Speaker
But we will on, uh, I mean, I'm just going to tell you right now, we're doing the live stream Sunday, June 9th for the Xbox showcase. We're going to stop before the Call of Duty connect thing happens. I'm just going to tell you right now. So if you're a massive Call of Duty fan, I don't know.
00:16:15
Speaker
I mean, unless they blow us away and it's something good. I mean, who knows? It's in Microsoft's hands now. And, you know, they're making moves as they do. But this is going to be probably one of their one of their other bigger moves that they're trying to make. They're not doing any more acquisitions now. They're like, all right, let's put something out with what we bought. So, you know, who knows how long this has been like to make some of that money back. Yeah. And who knows how long this has been like?
00:16:44
Speaker
in development because the acquisition was last year, right? So before the handoff happened, they probably could have already been working on it. Now, if they worked on it when Microsoft acquired it, I think maybe then we can see what they're capable of. But if it was before they were acquired, then maybe we're just going to be getting another yearly normal Call of Duty same Z game. Yeah. Oh, that's old.
00:17:13
Speaker
If you're if you like Call of Duty, I'm sure it'll be a game that you like. That's just kind of what it is. You know, that's what it boils down to. Yeah. Call of Duty has made a career and to be fair, a lot of franchises have Madden FIFA slash EA, whatever, tons of them of putting out basically the same game every year. Where's you're going to like it? Warzone is really what I think helped like a little bit of life into that game to bring it back.
00:17:41
Speaker
Yeah, I think the next big like, and to be fair, maybe this is like the next thing that, that would be a, oh, shoot. That's going to kind of like blow up the call of duty game is whenever a war zone two comes. That's like, there is a war zone to con or was that what's out now? Where's war zones is war zone, I think still. Yeah, I think so too. Yeah. But there would be even be a point of war zone too.
00:18:03
Speaker
because it'll be the second one money.
Microsoft's Strategic Moves
00:18:05
Speaker
It's like it's like Overwatch 2. Yeah, but you slap a 2 on it and people are going to be hyped because they're going to be like Destiny 2. Hmm.
00:18:14
Speaker
Yeah. It is interesting that it's the Xbox Showcase and not the Xbox Plus Bethesda Showcase or the Xbox Plus Bethesda Plus Activision Blizzard Showcase. Well, they own it all now. But I mean, this is the first year it hasn't been the Xbox Plus Bethesda Showcase. So they finally are like, hey, let's quit being stupid and just call it the Xbox Showcase. Or maybe that was something that was a part of their deal. They had to do it for a couple of years or something. I don't know.
00:18:44
Speaker
Um, does anybody have any, I guess we'll, we'll do predictions closer to the time that this happens. I mean, we're a month and a week away now, but, uh, we'll get into, we're almost in prediction season of what we think prediction season. I love it. But some more news dropped. This is from wccftech.com.
00:19:06
Speaker
Around three months ago, a flurry of rumors suggested that Microsoft was preparing many Xbox exclusive games to go multi-platform, including Gears of War, Starfield, blah blah blah.
00:19:16
Speaker
Um, Microsoft broadcast a business event update. We saw all that. Where is the actual quote from the man? Okay. A few hours ago, renowned Xbox insider and Windows central journalist, Jess Corden broached the topic once again, and the Xbox two discord channel as reported on the reset era forum. Corden said that the Xbox, that all of the Xbox first party games will be coming to PlayStation eventually. Even the flagship titles like Halo and Forza. He also discussed the future of an ecosystem.
00:19:45
Speaker
as more Steam-like in the future. With the ability to sideload PC stores like Steam itself, Microsoft had recently suggested it's much. The upside is that prices will be more affordable thanks to sales, the ecosystem will be more open to developers, meanwhile the Xbox hardware will be dedicated to a specific niche.
00:20:04
Speaker
We've seen some of this stuff before. We've talked about it on the podcast before, but an Xbox person journalist saying this may be a little different. And we also talked like it was weird that the first four Xbox games all came out like see if these was the last one that just came out this past weekend on PlayStation. So all four that they've already announced is already out. So I would assume at this showcase, maybe
00:20:31
Speaker
They announce other ones for the second half of the year, which may or may not include Halo Gears or whatever. But I, for one, want Halo on PlayStation. I think it'll be cool. I think I think it's going to be really fun to see Gears come to PlayStation. You know, hoping that some new life comes back into that game. Yeah.
00:21:00
Speaker
Yeah. Halo, I think is going to get a bit of a boon from this, but I think they should also try to focus on fixing issues that they're having with the game now so that people coming in new will have like a really good experience. It's mostly like multiplayer stuff. I've seen people complain about the campaign was great. I mean, I personally.
00:21:24
Speaker
I was definitely better than five. The campaign. Well, I mean, you could have diarrhea it on a rock and that'd been. Well, he's not wrong.
00:21:37
Speaker
Wow. I think Halo needs the boost of players, for sure. Yep. And we've talked about it a good bit on the show, but it's a really, really fun game to play. And they just kind of just made some really stupid decisions with Playlist. And it's like some really basic things that you feel like if you just asked your average Halo fan, they would have gotten it right. Like, it's so weird that that I don't know.
00:22:03
Speaker
It was a game with a lot of potential to to just like really bring it back on stage. And it fell just a little bit short, but it's not a terrible game. It's fun to kind of go. It's really good. Yeah. If you go on right now, it's like they fixed a bunch of the stuff that we've been thinking. I think a lot of things have been fixed forever, but it's too late. That's why I think if Infinite came to PlayStation in September or something, I feel like it could potentially blow up
00:22:31
Speaker
like blow up because you're going to have a slew of new players playing. You're going to have a slew of players that either had Xboxes and played it when it first came out. And then they're like, oh, you know, they got angry or whatever. So there are Xboxes. And let's not forget, it's not not only are we looking at Halo Infinite, we're looking at the Master Chief Collection, which is going to contain all the other Halo games. So like you're getting the full experience from one to, you know, infinite.
00:22:57
Speaker
And for Sea of Thieves, I assume it's the same for the other games, but it surprised me more because I'm a Sea of Thieves fan.
00:23:06
Speaker
They did the full work with the dual sense. So you get all the dual sense triggers and everything going on. They got full list of trophies. It's not like they just ported this game over and was just like, right, here's the game. They got trophies. They dual sense. They got it's optimized really well. There's a lot of good content, too. I saw the recent season stuff that was coming out that came out and
00:23:28
Speaker
It's it's really cool. Yeah, like the throwing knives or double. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Throwing knives. It's the one Microsoft first party game that's worked. Yeah. Like. Thank you. Rare. Thank you. Rare for Donkey Kong and Sea of Thieves. But yeah, I mean, it's interesting. I.
00:23:49
Speaker
Even if it was just a Master Chief collection that came over or the Master Chief collection came over first, that would still like, nimble up. Oh yeah, people are going to jump all over it. I mean, it's someone that played all the Halo games before Halo Infinite came out. I would do it again on PlayStation.
00:24:07
Speaker
Now, I think it's really interesting when you're talking about this whole steam like setup and like sideloading stuff. Like I'm really curious to see how this new like I guess store type thing is going to work out. And what that entails didn't. Didn't they talk about this like last year and we talked about this where there was something with the steam and it just like it didn't seem like it was going to go anywhere.
00:24:36
Speaker
Yeah, they taught I mean, like this business event, I don't remember when it feels last year, or earlier this year, what we had. And Phil Spencer and other podcasts talked about this already, like, yeah, putting the Steam store, the Epic store stuff on PlayStation. I mean, essentially, I think we've said it on the podcast before, but this is like someone in Xbox or Microsoft after this big acquisition was like, we need to start making money. And we don't care if that means we're technically a third party developer.
00:25:07
Speaker
Our games just go everywhere. And that is an interesting people on our console. Like Steam, you can do Epic.
Xbox Hardware & Third-Party Moves
00:25:14
Speaker
You can do our Microsoft Store or whatever and all of our games everywhere. So like just wherever you want to go to play our games, like just do that. Let's just make a let's just focus on making good games and make it definitely a part of this that that feels like or looks like admitting defeat, though, for sure. Like we need to make money back and we can't make it on our console. We can see the desperation.
00:25:38
Speaker
Yeah, there is a little bit of that for sure. And we'll see. And part of that is, I mean, it's their own fault, really. I think they in a way, I think they started to innovate some things with Game Pass and and their failures and first party things that maybe they innovated.
00:25:57
Speaker
too far to even into areas that didn't need to be innovated. Here's something that works. Do a better version of that instead of changing the whole game. We'll see what happens. They're the only company doing what they're doing right now, really.
00:26:14
Speaker
It's going to be interesting to see the impact of all of these decisions of like the purchases of all these game development companies, the poor sales of their hardware and just the fact that they've been bleeding money. You know, the game pass has been great. But, you know, have they hiked the prices up? I know there have been talks about hiking the price up for Game Pass at some point.
00:26:36
Speaker
Uh, I think this is going to be like holiday this year, maybe even next year. We'll see what the, uh, not consequences, but the impact of all of the decisions they've made over the past couple of years, if it's going to pay off, because I, like you're saying they, as big as a powerhouse they are, you know, and they are kind of like going down the rung on the ladder because now they're really kind of looking
00:26:59
Speaker
But like you said, like third party. So I wonder what that's going to do for the hardware, too. Like, are they just going to slowly phase out the Xbox or are they going to produce less? You know, they said that they're going to make another Xbox. There's also the rumor going around that they're making it handheld as well. Similar like the steam deck that will like natively be able to put all your Xbox games and stuff on it. So yeah, I think they're definitely going to pass machine.
00:27:26
Speaker
Yeah, the streaming route, for sure. Like, even if it's all digital. No, I think I'll always have a piece of hardware, no matter what. For streaming, like.
00:27:36
Speaker
Where are some of the biggest streaming devices besides Nvidia shield? Like, you know, Stadia didn't work. You know what streaming that's still viable. I mean, they're doing their cloud stuff on the phone and stuff already. Oh, yeah, that's fair. Yeah. And I know you can do that on like the rogue ally and stuff like that. I believe is you can you can do all the cloud streaming stuff on there, but to have a dedicated handheld
00:28:02
Speaker
for Game Pass, where you can download games and stuff, I think would be pretty solid for a lot of people. Yeah, just in theory, a Steam Deck that had Game Pass. Correct. So, I mean, there's a need for that for sure. I could see a... Just give us Halo. ...an area that works. And I want to see a documentary, like, of what the heck is going on for the last, like, 10 years at Xbox, that's what I want to know. Like, is it that, like, we... Listen, we just need to make our money back, so let's...
00:28:32
Speaker
Let's do this or was it people at Microsoft that didn't care about Xbox? We've done the numbers on the podcast before where it's like everything that Microsoft actually makes money than Xbox is always very at the very, very bottom at like three percent of our company. So who cares? But after all these acquisitions now, they're like in like the top three. So maybe somebody from Microsoft was just like,
00:28:53
Speaker
like looked at it was like what are y'all doing put this stuff everywhere so we can make our money back and they're like but we've been working like I don't care just do it yeah it's like look at all these things that have been going wrong so far we need we need our money and you know it'd be really cool like you're saying like a documentary or just go like go back and be like at what point did Microsoft like start taking a nosedive in you know customer satisfaction and
00:29:17
Speaker
you know, revenue loss and just poor sales. Like what happened around that point and like what decisions were made that led to that and then like the impact that it's been having ever since. Yeah, I'm going to think I'll go ahead, Andrew.

Speaker
I don't think we're going to get anything at the Xbox Showcase because I mean it's the Xbox Showcase so they're going to want everybody that loves Xbox to be happy at the end of it. So I don't think they're going to come out and be like, listen, we're putting more games on consoles and stuff then. So I would assume either that's announced before or after Showcase.
00:29:54
Speaker
It could also be the thing where the showcase happens. And then like later that day, someone's like, oh, yeah, I just heard behind closed doors that Halo is coming out September 8th or whatever. Yeah. PlayStation. It'll be weird because like if they are having Xbox showcase, that's specifically, you know, gear to making the Xbox people happy. But there's going to be an announcement that the games are just going to go everywhere. Then, you know, like what's that going to say to the big fanboys?
00:30:23
Speaker
You know, um, I actually draw the comparison, angelic comparison to the, uh, the, uh, who watched the NFL draft the other night. Right. I knew, I knew I had one hand, um, the Falcons, the Falcons picked eighth, right? Well, the Falcons a few months ago paid an older quarterback, a ton of money for the next four years to be their quarterback. And then when, then with the eighth pick of the draft.
00:30:52
Speaker
took a quarterback and what that really, like both, I mean, both of those things were viable. Like if you want to draft a young quarterback and try to run with him and work around him, go for it.
00:31:03
Speaker
If you want to pay the old guy to be your quarterback for the next few years before you're, you know, you get whatever, go for that. Both are viable plans, but doing both things made it feel like you don't know what your plan is. And that's kind of where I get with Microsoft, where it's like they just keep like pivoting. And it's like, yes, was there a whole, like, is there a master plan or is this just like, we're changing our plan every six months?
00:31:25
Speaker
Cause that's kind of how it feels with them. So boom, Atlanta Falcons, you are on our podcast and it's a good analogy that totally works. It's like, they're like, can we get a quarterback? We've got a quarterback at home. Literally the quarterback at home.
00:31:41
Speaker
quarterback at home like the the the article after the draft was like yeah he's not super happy about this because he was not expecting them to take a quarter like he's like i thought i was the guy why are we getting another guy who's supposed to be like i mean what's his contract for four years so how much is he getting a hundred and forty million it's like i don't care i'm getting a hundred and something million dollars like
00:32:06
Speaker
And then I'm out. I'm old. I'm with you. But I know it feels like Microsoft's that way. It's like they give it to something different every six months. And you're like, I'm of the if I had to put money on something, I would I'm putting money on somebody high up at Microsoft that really doesn't know anything about Xbox or cared because it's such a such a low percentage of just a business person money. It is coming in and not even looking at and being like what y'all have done is fail. Just coming in and being like,
00:32:33
Speaker
make money you know like like Phil's like coming to Phil Spencer and their team or whatever be like what's what's the plan for us to make our money back and maybe it was more traditional like oh we need to make great exclusive games and then he was just like why don't would we make more money if we just put everything everywhere and they're like well yeah but I don't care just let's do that now just put everything everywhere so we can make as much money as possible
00:32:56
Speaker
Yeah, and I think it feels like one of those people have come into Phil Spencer's office like every eight months over the last five years Exactly. Let's do something different. Yeah, it's definitely like that. We're
00:33:10
Speaker
you know, whoever is up there that's in charge, just coming from like the corporate world, they really don't know they see numbers.
Switch 2 Rumors & Features
00:33:19
Speaker
And what they what they care about is keeping shareholders happy. And that's just, you know, that's number one above all of us as gamers. And so when they look at this, and what's happening, they're like, Okay, well,
00:33:32
Speaker
you know, we have marketing people who also aren't technical people, who aren't people who understand gamers as well. And they're like, okay, like, you know, what are the things? What are the trends? What are people doing? And, you know, what's going to help us make Q1? What's going to help us make Q2? That's really all they're looking at. They're looking at the long term. They're just looking at the short term, like, how do we get that extra 1% for our profits for that quarter?
00:33:57
Speaker
Well, let's shift and do this thing. And I see that kind of thing happen a lot lately. The last, you know, 10 years with companies where it's just like the passion is gone and it's just money chasing. Well, let's be honest, if Xbox didn't have Bill Gates money, they would have gone under like 100 percent in the last few years. Yeah, I mean, they've been I was trying to find the
00:34:27
Speaker
like the revenue report we've talked about on the podcast before.
00:34:32
Speaker
But it was literally like up until this acquisition, they were like three percent. They made like three percent of what Microsoft makes, which is like, who cares at that point? So I don't think the Microsoft people have been really involved that much until like now, where it's like, OK, because we spent an ungodly amount of money getting a billion, then we need to
00:34:59
Speaker
now all of a sudden you're in our top three like you're outperforming like office and stuff now so it's like we need to get stuff moving but let's move on to the next topic we got a couple different switch to rumors um this past week this first one comes from polygon.com
00:35:21
Speaker
A pair of recent reports have suggested that Nintendo's successor to the Switch console, which we're calling the Switch 2 for now, will have Joy-Con controllers that attach to the body of the device using strong, electronically controlled magnets rather than the sliding rail system used by the Switch. Somewhere else in this article, I'm not going to read the whole thing.
00:35:44
Speaker
OK, it says that Switch 2's dock will use the same USB-C connection as the existing dock support 4K display resolution and feature minor changes in appearance. Confusingly, the company also mentioned that the new dock having a damping bracket on the back allowing for greater range of adjustable angles, which sounds like it might refer to the kickstand on the back of the console itself.
00:36:11
Speaker
Also confirmed earlier reports to switch people have a larger 8-inch screen supporting 1080p resolution on mobile So there's that and there's also talked about the Joy the switch one joy cons being compatible but not being able to connect to Like the side of the handheld. Hmm. Thank you. You still use them when it's docked or when it's handheld like wirelessly but they're not gonna be able to because they'll have the new magnetic ones, but
00:36:41
Speaker
All that and then before we get other things, we also have a new rumor that suggests that this comes from TechRadar.com. During a recent discussion on the broken silicon podcast between content creators, Moore's Law is Dead and the Fox about Nintendo's next console, it was said that they expect to see some Xbox Series S level ray tracing for the device and that the battery life will be much different compared to the launch Nintendo Switch.
00:37:11
Speaker
Moore's law specifically stated that they've heard rumors that Switch 2's battery life will be clocked faster than we expect when it's docked. In docked mode, however, undocked, it's going to be a crazy low, essentially, to save battery life. Now, who's got them thoughts for Big Daddy?
00:37:33
Speaker
Am I the only one that doesn't care about ray tracing? I think even if I had a rig for it, I don't know why that's a priority or a push. I turn it off. I don't understand that. It's too power hungry. And I think that's really interesting, the way that they're talking about
00:37:48
Speaker
The battery life for this, you know, they say it's going to be different. So, you know, is it going to be better or worse? I mean, hopefully better because that that would make sense if you're going to launch a brand new console. But when it comes to a ray tracing more power consumption, the B from the previous article, if you're using electromagnets to hold your joy cons to the console, that's power that's being used to keep that magnet activated.
00:38:14
Speaker
So I don't know how, you know, what moves they're trying to do. It sounds like they're the way they're going to clock it is going to be, I guess, more power friendly. And I guess maybe they're doing that because they are adding these extra things and they're trying to find a way to save battery. But I can't expect it. I mean, well, I I can't imagine it being that much more battery life than the switch.
00:38:43
Speaker
I would imagine similar. In that article, it says there that the rumor is that Nintendo is aiming to want a higher battery life than the Switch one. But because of that, they're going to have to clock it crazy low and they're using some sort of fan. I don't know. Bunch of lingo dingos, you know, to make that happen. But if we get if it's a dock that is actually can output 4K as great, but are we actually like
00:39:13
Speaker
All this is just words right now. Like I need to see it in action because it's Nintendo we're talking about here. This isn't this like a steam deck or anything that could run Elden Ring. Exactly. Sure. It's like, OK, new Mario Kart game comes out. Is it actually like in 4K 60 when it's docked and 1080p 30 when it's handheld mode? Because that will actually matter for me. Well, where I play the game. That to me sounded a little bit like it was going to be a basically a series S.
00:39:43
Speaker
Like in terms of power, um, which is, you know, not terrible, but to me, the thing that I took out of that, that was most. Significant was that's two different articles that both referred to. It's going to have a doc and then that was a conversation that we've had. Like, are they going to still do a doc or are they going to just go straight handheld mode or whatever? So like, it seems like they're going to go to a doc and it's going to be some sort of, uh, improvement while docked compared to handheld, which is, I think a good thing.
00:40:09
Speaker
I think like, yeah, the hopeful best outputs, like you were saying, Andrew, like 4K output, 60 frames, that would be great. A built in gigabit Ethernet switch at minimum. I mean, you know, I think the future of gaming at some point, they'll probably start putting 10 gigabit switches, but gigabit switch at least so you can just jack in your Ethernet and have a fast connection. And I mean, the USB options are really good on it, so.
00:40:39
Speaker
Maybe they might have to play port support that would be cool sure yeah, I just I mean it would be nice like right now when a third-party game comes to switches cloud streaming made it be nice if they're like eventually when the when the switch to is five years old six years old whatever if they're like
00:41:01
Speaker
Elden ring three is out now and I skipped, but it's only, you can only play it in docked. So it's like, at least it's not streaming. At least you can dock and play it. It's like, yeah, it's not going to work on handheld. Yeah. Or you can help, or you can dock it to play native. There you go.
00:41:20
Speaker
I think, in my opinion, with a screen that's small, I think 720 is fine, personally. I think 720 OLED, 1080p, and bumped the frames up in the dock. I don't think we need, I mean, this is just me. I just, I don't think- No, you're right. 4K needs to be the priority because I don't look at Nintendo as one of those consoles in the reigns of Sony and Microsoft where it's like 4K, 120. No, stick to your 1080p.
00:41:49
Speaker
But make your frames high and your games run and look good for a handheld mode. I totally I agree because as a steam deck owner as well, it's like, you know, you want the best frames. We were used to turning down the setting to screen smaller. That's fine. But.
00:42:06
Speaker
I'm hopeful that, yeah, the doc might have some technology that helps boost the power of the device itself and that it can output your case 60. Yeah. Because at some point like Nintendo's got to catch up, you know, like four keys now standard almost at this point. So.
00:42:22
Speaker
Mm-hmm. I think 4k 60 doc mode should be there. Mm-hmm. Um, I said, I mean, just whatever you need to party to, you know, wherever you put it down to make sense. Yeah. I feel like their first party stuff is going to be first parties. Like they don't care. They've shown through the course of time. They don't care what anybody else thinks for their first party games. But it's like, like right now the switch is what, eight years old, nine years old.
00:42:48
Speaker
I think really, we hit not young decade or 2013. Oh, my God. Yeah, it's been over. I don't know. Maybe it's not that long. I'm feeling I thought it was 2013. Switch. No, it wasn't. It wasn't that long. Twenty seventeen. Oh, so a March 3rd. So it's been over seven years. So you want you would you would want I would hope for
00:43:16
Speaker
Cause I mean the switch was underpowered after year two, you know, like it was underpowered when it came out, but it was still viable enough to get whatever third party games came. But after two years, it's just like, all right, especially when the new consoles come out, like.
00:43:32
Speaker
You want to at least be able to, like Microsoft did that deal when they actually, before they closed the deal deal with Nintendo saying like Call of Duty will come to Nintendo consoles for the next 10 years or whatever. So like, all right, well.
00:43:48
Speaker
That means five years after the Switch 2 has been out, it needs to be able to run Call of Duty.
Nintendo's Strategy for Switch 2
00:43:52
Speaker
So if it's ducked mode and it looks and runs halfway decent five, six years later, then that's better than what we get with Switch 1. Because right now, it's just like, obviously, there's just like not much third party sport at all. And when the big games like Apex and Overwatch and all that kind of stuff came to Switch, it just ran, just got awful. Right. It was not fun.
00:44:18
Speaker
No, yeah, I think the priority has become first-party indie console basically like it's a good indie console Mm-hmm. I think like the the to me the point where they should be trying to get power wise is Whatever this next wave of consoles that comes out from Sony and Microsoft is if Microsoft does another Whatever series x2 and a series s2 that series s2 that least powerful one It's a switch can hit that
00:44:44
Speaker
then you should be good. Like you can play everything if you can get to be that low powered version of the modern consoles. Yeah. But I mean, we also kind of said this stuff for the Switch one. I mean, we've said this stuff for the dawn of time on the Wii and stuff like that. It's like, well, there's no third party support. What are they doing? And then they sell like a bajillion of them. We all would want third party support. Well, third party support was awesome. Yeah. It's to when the new consoles hit, there's a big power jump.
00:45:18
Speaker
Anything I want to talk about any final thoughts or anything before we end this bad boy It's play predecessor with me I Played one game and took like an hour and a half and I was like, okay. Okay hour and a half I've never played a game. So I've got I got a question for Andrew. Have you checked out the remnant DLC? I
00:45:41
Speaker
so yes and no we talked about it me and uh my friend we also talked about the podcast the other day we were planning on buying it and playing it like no we did it with the first dlc and so i looked it up in this one uh same uh length as the first dlc which is probably like five or six hours or something like that there's one more dlc that's coming this year so we made the decision to just wait till the other one came out because
00:46:06
Speaker
The problem we had with the first DLC is a new archetype comes out, which is basically a new class. By the time you get it, in order to get all the goodies and abilities and supers and stuff like that, you need to level it all the way up. It takes some time to get all that experience to level it all the way up. You can't really do that in one DLC.
00:46:27
Speaker
So it's like, we did the DLC, got the new archetype and she's like, okay, do I play the whole game again? Just so I can level this up. So I think we decided to wait until the next DLC comes out and then just play both of them back to back. Game of the year. That way it's not, yeah.
00:46:43
Speaker
We play five hours of it and then we get the new archetype and at least we'll be able to like play somewhere between five to 12 hours. I mean, I guess 10 to 15 whatever it is. Hopefully. Yeah. Heads up. The DLCs are 10 bucks a piece. Uh, but there's like a, there's a season pass that's 25 bucks for all of them. So.
00:47:04
Speaker
Skin on Fortnite is like $20. Oh yeah. That's the same price. You're getting six hours of content plus armor and weapons and bells and things that we don't buy on Rocket League because they're $23. Yeah. I enjoyed the first DLC, but the reviews and people have played the second DLC are like way better. So they're like, DLC is really, really good. So same.
00:47:31
Speaker
Right now, it's just destiny time, you know? Heck yeah. We are a month away from the final shape. And we've already done so many good things for us. R.I.P., awful, I'm awful. It's sad. I'm brutal. Yeah. But, you know, I've got to help the sister out, man. I've got to help her move out there. So, Andrew, are you going to be joining us tonight? I'm going to try to.
00:47:58
Speaker
But see, like I said, I did this the other night. I know Andrew has this problem, too. We're married boys. It's like, oh, he's got the house himself today out of town for work. I'm saying. So like when she comes up, I'm like, I'm doing Destiny Raid stuff again. She might.
00:48:16
Speaker
uppercut me, you know what I mean? That's, you know, that's fair. You know, you got to, you got to, you got to survive. You got to take care of yourself or not. She might, but at the same time, I watch you play Pantheon, but at the same time, which I don't know if y'all have people in your life that are book lovers.
00:48:36
Speaker
She just started a new book, and a lot of times when she does that, she doesn't want to have anything to do with me. Like, baby, go soak that in. Go soak that in. That's when Mick does. She sits right here on the couch and I get I play with the boys and she reads books and there you go. Plays steam duck. And I'm like, all right, let's get into it. New video game comes out. You just come home with like arm full of books. Like, I got you some door nash for dinner. Tell her to go. I leave. I leave to go on tour around June 10th ish.
00:49:06
Speaker
So literally, it's like I'm doing I'm either hanging out with Emily or playing destiny, like from June 4th to 10th. I'm not doing anything else in my life. Nothing else exists, but destiny and wives. So that's all you need, bro. And that's why he's plural. My destiny wife, her name's Savathun and she thick girl, Sam, a thick.
00:49:33
Speaker
I'm here. We got a chat from Ivy Rhodes podcast books are lame and for nerds. I agree. I agree. Nothing has ever been. What about comic books, manga, graphic novels? Those don't count. They're cool. But you still have to read those. It's got cool. It's got pictures. That's what animates for. You know, when I was growing up, I didn't read books and I still don't because books are lame and for nerds, but.
Episode Wrap-Up & Community Engagement
00:49:59
Speaker
As a JRPG fan growing up, I feel like there's a lot of text. Oh, yeah. I don't know what that equates to in pages in a book, but RPGs are better books. They're better books. They're better books. They're like picture books, but better.
00:50:15
Speaker
You know, better storytelling. Choose your own adventure books, you know? Oh man, those are fun. Like the goose bump ones, the choose your own adventures. Turn to page 57 or turn to page 13 and you go and what's going to happen?
00:50:30
Speaker
But there's no way she's watching this live. But my plan is to she should be home any second, start dinner, have it ready. Soon she comes home. She's like, Oh my gosh, have the best husband in the world. Fresh dinner ready to go for me. Gobbles it up, starts reading her book, forgets I exist. Leave the book out where she can see it. She's an audio book listener. Oh, okay.
00:50:54
Speaker
So. Well, I. Yeah, if you can. And you can then, you know, just jump into that discord and smash that interested button and we can get you to the middle. I know Andrew knows it's the middle to raid bosses. The time we need a time we need a platinum time that we need to platinum time. Yeah, I'm here for the platinum. So I'm down to do all four of them. Oh, yeah, I don't care. Yeah, it's fun. I like it. So.
00:51:24
Speaker
Uh, any other final thoughts, boys? We got a, uh, released just because we've talked about in the podcast. We got a release date for X Defiant today and it was May 21st, I think is what it, what it is on, on everywhere. So there's that. We'll see you there before I see sleep token in New York. Sleep token. There you go.
00:51:44
Speaker
Uh, we're, we're going in five days, five days, man. It's going to be great. And I haven't played it yet because my PC is having problems, but I've heard a lot of man or Lord's buzz this week too. I don't know if you have a podcast to listen to today. They were talking about that game.
00:52:00
Speaker
I really want to play it. I honestly think my motherboard is the problem. It sucks for one reason and that is that I have to take my whole PC apart. That's the reason it sucks. I do have the warranty so I can just switch it out like I get a brand new and it's fine. How old is your motherboard?
00:52:20
Speaker
I built the PC last January. So OK, that's a warranty. So yeah, it's always a scary thing when it's getting time to upgrade something like a motherboard and it's an old motherboard. So then you're like, oh, well, that sock is not supported anymore. So I got to get a new CPU or if DDR5 comes out, I need DDR5 RAM now, which is DDR. I got that already, bro. Yeah. So you're you're a PS5 and I want a little bit like a PS5 Pro. And then you just plug it in and it works. It's crazy.
00:52:50
Speaker
through landlords on Game Pass. So I'll give you hopefully some sort of review on it next week. Excited to play it.
00:53:01
Speaker
