What's up everybody? Welcome to the Logon Games Podcast.
State of Play Event Overview
00:00:23
Speaker
We just finished watching the state of play for May 30th, 2024 via PlayStation.
00:00:33
Speaker
We got Carlos, Matthew, and Andrew with us. You can find them all everywhere you want to be, but we're going to try and make this snappy. If you want to, you can go to our YouTube channel or our Twitch channel, youtube.com or twitch.tv.com slash log on games.
00:00:53
Speaker
You can watch our live reactions to the state of play and go over there, give us a subscribe, give us a like, throw us a comment, throw us a bone, you know? Do something. Do all of it. Um, so let's get into what we just saw. Initial thoughts. Andrew, we'll start with you.
Opinions on State of Play Highlights
00:01:15
Speaker
uh there was um a lot more brown boy action in there so like that was pretty pretty cool uh not uh i wouldn't say anything to make me uh want to play my playstation more but like you know fingers crossed that stuff comes to pc but yeah a lot of cool surprises uh i'd give it let's say uh seven out of ten seven out of ten
00:01:37
Speaker
Seven out ten. Carlos, what about you? I mean, you know, I don't have PS5, but I like Sony games just over my gaming time. And yeah, you know, it was there wasn't much, but you got you got some some rereleases. You got you got some some interesting that one game, Andrew, that you already forgot the name of, like that one, I think is
00:02:07
Speaker
the highlight for me of that entire state of the Elden Ring clone. Yeah. Elden Ring clone. But not bad. Not bad at all. There's a lot of games in there that look like other games. High percentage actually. That's good. I would say that there was
00:02:28
Speaker
A lot of stuff in this set of play that I don't think is for me, but still looked cool. Right. Like not necessarily going to be up my alley, but like a well-made game, whatever that is.
Game Announcements and Speculations
00:02:43
Speaker
Um, highlight for me is Concord looks really cool. I super love overwatch and, um, the rivals game was kind of like that too. So that looks, I don't know, both of those two games would be the two that I'm excited about. I'm probably seven out of 10 as well, somewhere around there. Pretty good for 30 minutes.
00:03:02
Speaker
Yeah, probably about the same, somewhere between a six and a seven. Concord, my type of game, as long as it's good and works. Marvel Rivals coming to console officially, specifically PlayStation, I assume it's going to come to Xbox and everything else as well. Sure. But after seeing people that have played the PC beta, I don't know if it was like a closed beta or invite only thing or something.
00:03:31
Speaker
But most everything coming out of that was positive, especially for Overwatch fans, such as myself. I'm excited for that. God of War Ragnarok on PC, and you two PC nerds are excited about that.
00:03:49
Speaker
Yeah, I'm definitely going to play it once I beat the other God of War. But this gives me more of a reason to do it now, because I'm like, oh, I know I can play both of those. So. Yeah, that looks good.
00:04:08
Speaker
Concord I think I so I have not even heard of Concord until like today. So that that was very interesting. I like the I like the characters. I like that. There's kind of like a type of story to it. So I'm kind of already getting invested in that. But like we said very
00:04:32
Speaker
Guardians of the Galaxy-esque story. You can kind of match the characters up with who they would be in the movie. But the gameplay looks fun. It's a cool sounding concept. I'm guessing this is going to be a live service game.
00:04:53
Speaker
As long as the content stays relevant and there's growth from the story throughout, it's got potential. The beta for Concord plan later this year, followed by the global launch on PS5 and PC, August 23rd, 2024.
Upcoming RPG Releases
00:05:12
Speaker
Doesn't say anything on the PS blog about price or anything like that.
00:05:17
Speaker
Will the PC require a Sony sign-in account sign-in? Probably. That's going to be like an Xbox game does. Well, I mean. It's different if it happens from. When the game launches and not the game's already been out for a month. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're for. Yeah. Yep. Yeah. Probably. I probably shouldn't have brought that back up. It's okay.
00:05:45
Speaker
We had a Dynasty Warriors game.
00:05:51
Speaker
Yeah. That's still going strong. That game is a hold at this point. That series, it's been a real long time. 100 feels like it. They probably have like low sales requirements to make, make another one. Cause like you said, it's like, it's like the land before time of games. They just, yeah. And they would put them out every year. You know, they had so many of them. I know they kept coming out on switch. You're like, here's the Zelda one. Here's the fire emblem one. All right. There's a Gundam one.
00:06:21
Speaker
Um, we got an upcoming open world RPG infinity, Nikki getting a test for some time in Q3, Q3, 2024. That's the system seller. It is the, it's a vibrant open world RPG from former Zelda director, Kentaro, Tommy, Tominaga attached to the project to get another trailer and go to the state play. Let's see if he needs anything extra on the PlayStation blog about it, but.
00:06:51
Speaker
Oh, there is. You can take pictures. Of course, you can do a lot of that. There's a whole if you want to go to PlayStation, I'm gonna read about it. There's a whole section called dress up and relaxation. Oh, boy. Do you like dressing up and relaxing? This is the game for you and taking pictures of my wife.
00:07:18
Speaker
We got another upcoming open world. No, no, wait, wait. Dark Fantasy RPG Ballad of Antara is out next year. Here it is. Developed by Tips Work Studio. Players who buy Ballad of Antara will be tasked with venturing into a journey to reclaim the lost essences of the world. The world.
00:07:45
Speaker
the whole world. So do we think that all the stuff that I want, they're like, it would have to be a summer game fest or something. Like they're not going to throw it in a state of play. Like blue, like where's this blue point game? Like they've been working on like with some original game for like years now. And like we've heard, I mean, where's the, where's the PlayStation showcase, you know, where that would actually be. Yeah.
PlayStation Showcase Insights
00:08:07
Speaker
Yeah. Isn't that going to be, it's probably going to be like June or July, right?
00:08:13
Speaker
That's what we said last year. They did one. They just stayed to play like this before last year's. We got one in September of 2020. Did we get one in May last year before or May or June before the game fest stuff? I feel like we did. I know we did two years ago. Maybe that's what I'm thinking. Let's see.
00:08:38
Speaker
I thought I remember them. Yeah, they showed like Resident Evil or something before we got one February of February 23rd last year and September 14th last year. The Resident Evil one was two years ago, like a week before summer game face and stuff, which was just a good one. So we've not gotten a showcase in a long, long time, years at this point. Yeah. Yeah.
00:09:01
Speaker
So random tidbit is like, I'm an OG Silent Hill fan. And I don't know, like I'm not backflipping for the remake. Me neither. So, you know, like, well, part of it, I'd say it's like the dead space one. That was like so cool. Like what they did with that. But there's just something about this remake that's not doing anything for me. I don't know what it is. Don't know what it is.
00:09:26
Speaker
I think, I mean, they announced a lot of Silent Hill stuff last year. I think they announced like a brand new game from like a big boy studio. And then they announced like five remakes and every time they do another remake trailer, it's just like, all right. Are you really trying that hard people? Oh no. Believe me.
00:09:47
Speaker
Um, I know. I forgot the line already. So I was like, I didn't do, but that's what she sounded like. Uh, we had some PSVR two games. That's great. None of them are exclusive. So who cares? Um, we had, I mean, it's facts.
Exclusive Games Discussion
00:10:06
Speaker
It's facts. It is. It just is. Does it upset you that it's not exclusive? It should make you happy. Cause you've got a medic quest, aren't you?
00:10:13
Speaker
No, but I will get one. Because when a Mediquest 4 eventually comes out, all my games will carry over. Whereas the hundreds of dollars I've spent on PSVR1 games did not carry over. I think maybe two got updates. I think they should give out PSVR2s for free if you buy a PS5 now.
00:10:38
Speaker
Bundle it. We talked about Marvel Rivals. That's cool. Close beta set for July, it says. We'll get it until. Go ahead. No, I was going to move on. OK, go ahead. Until Dawn, new trailer, fall release window. Sure. I get to play it finally. Yep. If you haven't played it, Jeff only get it and play it.
00:11:07
Speaker
Yeah, I will be playing it. He won't. I will. These are these are the types of games they play in group settings because we like we'll have like people like make decisions and stuff.
00:11:19
Speaker
Andrew, what was that game that we played that was groups? It was kind of like that, but you everyone use their phone. You're like, we're trying to vote to get the right decision through or whatever. You know what I'm saying? Oh, Jackbox place. No, no, no. But it was similar to like an until dawn. But like as a group, you all were voting for which decision. I think it was it was one of their like mobile games thing. I don't know.
00:11:42
Speaker
There's a lot back then.
Group Games and New Trailers
00:11:44
Speaker
Yeah. So everyone's actually interacted with the game. I think it's like that's really cool. That's really cool. It was cool because so like you were all trying to vote for whatever the decision in the game was that you were making. But you had certain people who would have like special ability cards, whatever, where they're like they have secret roles where they're actually trying to get this person to die in the game at any way. Oh, that's really cool. See, that's fun. Yeah, I'm going to figure it out.
00:12:12
Speaker
We got a Paths of Exile 2 trailer, Early Access later this year. Looks cool. Very Diablo. Diablo Killer, let's go. Silent Hill 2, we talked about that kind of when we got Monster Hunter Wild's gameplay trailer. Andrew, what do you think about it? What do you think about it?
00:12:35
Speaker
Oh, I mean, it looks, it looks insane. The, the, the struggle for me is going to be, uh, waiting, waiting. Yeah. And will I be strong enough to not pay $70 for it and then get it on PC when it comes out? That's going to be the test. That's going to be the test. When's this game supposed to go? It's 20, 26. It says 2025. They announced it last year at the game awards, 20, 26. Okay. And said 2025. So yeah. Yeah.
00:13:04
Speaker
Oh, it would be a PS five to play. It looks sick. So it would probably be like twenty, twenty nine when it comes to PC. Don't say that. Don't say that. It's true. I'll be playing Destiny three by then. Don't say that.
Game Similarities and Future Speculations
00:13:23
Speaker
And then we got the Astro bike game. That looks fun, which looked like a full blown Astro bike game other than the
00:13:33
Speaker
the little demo tech demo, we kind of thing. And we got the PS five launch. Oh, and did you mention where wins meat? Nope. Ellicotti. I'm I G. And that's what I'm reading from. They don't have it on here. How dare they? Wow. Yeah. Where wins meat was cool. It was very, uh, you know, got a Dodge and a Perry and some scary enemies.
00:13:57
Speaker
But I think Matthew nailed it. There's a lot of like doopie games of the same genre in there. So it's like I could see that for sure. I mean, especially with I mean, Marvel Rivals and Concord, you know, these like
00:14:13
Speaker
xvx multiplayer overwatch type game. So, you know, there's no of that. It's like sheets of wallow right in front of you. Which one do you go to? Like I found it, by the way, hidden agenda is the name of that game. You don't have the gender hidden gender. OK, look at it. Very cool. There when Jeff Keeley tweeted out all the people that are going to be at Summer Game Fest showing off something, PlayStation is on there. Mm hmm.
00:14:42
Speaker
Well, they just show like, will we just get another Astro bot trailer? You know, probably remake, but I mean, it's always possible to just get something again. He had naughty dog again last year. I wouldn't be shocked if he gets the juice. He had the game that got canceled last year. So I'm sure they'll want to do that again. Um, well, I hope there's some juice, but you know, if not.
00:15:09
Speaker
I feel like, or maybe that's where the PS5 pros announced. Could be. Do you think, I bet they have a last of a season two TV trailer. They're filming now. So yeah. But some sort of like teaser trailer or something. They might just be like filming for a bit. Right. I mean, a month, maybe. Yeah. I was going to say a month. Yeah. Okay. Maybe not.
00:15:33
Speaker
They may just have like a pain next year. Last year. Gotcha. Here's Ellie on a horse. Yep. But we'll see. I mean, I'm really excited for Marvel rivals and semi excited for Concord. You know, it's, it's been, it's been a very long time since a.
00:15:55
Speaker
multiplayer game has come out. PvP has hit. X Defiant just came out of it, playing it's fun. I don't know if it has the legs to keep going or not. We'll see.
00:16:11
Speaker
I enjoy it because it's basically Call of Duty and Overwatch like kind of merged together. Sure. So but I don't know if that's, you know, Call of Duty people might not like that. And also the Overwatch people might not like that. You know, maybe so. Yeah. Concord to me was is the most exciting thing from this because I don't know, it looked like for the first like they showed it for a while for the first like 60 percent of what they were showing, it looked like a cool PvE kind of.
00:16:39
Speaker
do these quests together with your friends thing. And then it came out and we're like, it's a five V five PVP game. I was like, what? Where did that go? Like I was not expecting that. And so like, I don't know this idea of, Hey, there's this quest that you're supposed to do, but there's multiple teams getting dropped or two teams getting dropped on different sides of the map or something. Fight for it. Go for it. That sounds fun. I hope so. And what are they, I know we talked about it's launching this year and then there's a beta in July.
00:17:07
Speaker
Yeah. I will only be here for like a week in July. So hopefully it's that week. You know what I mean? All right.
Final Thoughts and Podcast Wrap-up
00:17:15
Speaker
Well, that's all for that. Is there anything you guys want to talk about before we end out this podcast or any final thoughts of anything?
00:17:26
Speaker
I'm not ready for this Destiny expansion. I was about to say, yeah. I'm not ready. That last Destiny trailer gets your nips hard like I got mine. No, see, what's funny is Carlos said basically they showed too much, so I didn't watch it.
00:17:40
Speaker
He doesn't want any spoilers. I loved it, but also I was like, there's some, there's a lot of stories and stuff. They did just some story stuff, but uh, so you got the one that you got, um, Andrew, the other day, cause you said you pre-ordered it. Was it, uh, the one with the annual pass, right? That comes with the exotic and everything.
00:18:04
Speaker
So I did not pure the hundred dollar, like no, he did this time. Brown, Brown boy did though. I did. Oh yeah. Okay. And it was the, okay. I'm buying it right now. So I just, so I preordered the regular version for the first time ever. I usually get to be here one.
00:18:20
Speaker
But the regular version does include the first episodes. You get the final expansion and the first episode. The only thing you don't get initially is the exotic weapon. And, uh, you don't get the dungeon key and you won't get the other two episodes, but I'm, I'm still.
00:18:41
Speaker
in a, I'm very, very excited for the final shape, but after the final shape in the first episode, I'm still, you know, what the heck is that? So I'll be able to play the first one and then we'll go from there, you know? Yeah. To me, Destiny is like renewing my Amazon account. It's just inevitable. It just happens. Yeah. I'm just going to buy the full thing anyway. It doesn't even matter. Yeah. By the time that the second episode come down, you know, do we have, do we have an annual pass sale? You know, it's all good. It's all good.
00:19:12
Speaker
I will say this, I am gonna be on the road for a little bit here this summer. So I did my annual tour thing where I get a refurbished iPad. So I can return it after the tour.
00:19:29
Speaker
And what I did as I was setting it up, it was like, oh, apps that you'll like. And I went to like the gaming section or whatever. It was like PlayStation remote play. And I was like, I really would like to play some destiny if it's even possible. Let's just set it up. Let's just see how good it works for like a destiny type game. Now, mind you, I'm have really good internet.
00:19:49
Speaker
But I was able, like, am I going to be doing, you know, day one raids on this thing? Absolutely not. But to just go on and play and do bounties and get stuff done, it worked really well. I played for probably like an hour on the iPad and it hooks up with the controller.
00:20:06
Speaker
Nice, of course. And it definitely reminded me of what I've played like on Xbox, cloud gaming, stuff like that, where it's like. There's a little bit like. Am I going to? Am I going to be playing a very competitive PVP game on this? Absolutely not. But if I have good Internet, like good Wi-Fi. I can play Destiny. I must say, can you hotspot off your phone? Right. I could, but. My phone says good Internet. Yes, I get it.
00:20:36
Speaker
Like if we show up somewhere and it's like, Oh man, we got solid interwebs here. I'm definitely going to be hopping on. I'm definitely going to be, uh, on the destiny train getting things done. Yep. You know, so.
00:20:53
Speaker
Bitch, you can see I also played some Final Fantasy 16 on it on remote play and I'm still chipping away at it. I think you play like you probably play like 10 minutes a day. So there are nights where I'll play like 20 minutes and be like, all right. The other the other night, I was like, OK, I know that there's a boss fight coming up, so I'm just going to get on, do the boss fight and get off. Mm hmm.
00:21:18
Speaker
the boss fight just a boss fight i'm not talking about anything else but like hey the boss fight has started you are now pressing buttons and slashing yeah it's over an hour oh my god and i didn't die i didn't die it's just how long the fight took good god because it's like it was one of those words like all right you beat him
00:21:37
Speaker
All right, now he's pissed off. He does this little thing. Now he's big boy. And then you beat him. And he's like, oh, he did this thing now. He's like God of War sized villain now where he's just like this most gigantic. This is a Dragon Ball Z. Shadow of Colossus, where you're like running up his arm, you know, for like ever doing all things like fight him three different times there. And then there's a cutscene afterwards. And it's like, I just want to play for like 20 minutes, beat this boss. But this whole boss battle, which is super fun.
00:22:06
Speaker
Boy, it took a long time. Yeah, go who knows about that life. Yeah, it does. But that's it. Excited for destiny. Anybody else? You guys are going to have fun, man. I'll be on when I get back. You're going to be suffering. I am, dude. It's eating me. It really is. All right. Well, we want to thank everybody for watching our reactions, listening.
00:22:34
