Introduction and Guest Appearance

00:00:13
Speaker
What's up, everybody? Welcome to the Log on Games Podcast for Friday, April the 5th. On this episode today, we're going to be talking about whatever the heck we want to, because we're recording this earlier than normal. It is a day for me, so we are just zoop. So maybe this is going to be like a 12 minute long episode. We don't know. Yeah.
00:00:36
Speaker
We have to, yeah, we just talked like twice as fast. And then for the people that listen to podcasts on like double speed, yeah, about five minutes left. So with me on today's podcast, you can find him at Brown berserker over in the kingdom of Azrael. That sounds familiar. I don't know what it's from, but we have Andrew with us on the podcast today.
00:01:06
Speaker
That's some good fairy tapping thanks We should start having guests on the show and that's what we should say whenever we say your name You'd point yourself and say what color you are What's going on
00:01:27
Speaker
Um, I I don't want to say i'm free of the shackles of final fantasy seven, but I finally beat uh rebirth I was actually venting to my wife about that because uh, I went to bed at 4 a.m The other night nice because the last boss took me two hours to beat Now people probably don't care but it's like andrew why did it take you two hours to take two hours because
00:01:52
Speaker
Andrew, it is a six-phase fight. Wow. The great part is, though, when you get past a phase and if you die, it doesn't... Depending on what you select as a retry, it could start you all the way at the beginning, or it'll start you on the phase that you just died at. That junk took me two hours, man. I thought I was gonna be in bed at 1 a.m. that night. I went to bed at 4.
00:02:17
Speaker
And it's funny because I've been on this epic journey for like 65 hours. I'm like, this is it. This is the culmination of everything. This is the end. And I was just like, bro, I just want to go to sleep. This is not the feeling I want to have when I finish a journey. But I was glad to have it done, but I was just so tired and defeated going to bed at 4am.
00:02:40
Speaker
Are

Game Difficulty: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

00:02:41
Speaker
you playing on like whatever the hardest difficulty is? Absolutely not. No, that was on normal. And yes, like people might be listening and watching and be like, wow, you suck at life.
00:02:51
Speaker
Listen, there's there's some flaws to that game. And I'm someone that likes to play in a party of these are my three best characters and I only want to play these characters. Well, that ending forces you to play with everybody. And let's just say Andrew didn't have them set up. So I was just scraping by my teeth to get through.
00:03:15
Speaker
Well, we're gonna dive in. We're gonna dive in some Final Fantasy 7. I also finished a game, but my game that I finished was significantly worse. It was not Final Fantasy 16. But first we welcome everybody to the Logon Games Podcast. This will weekly show which our hosts discuss a variety of gaming news topics from big announcements, new games, events and more. I did that out of order.
00:03:39

00:04:07
Speaker
What's the one that Donald Trump made? Truth Social. I don't know if he actually made it. I remember when Trump was in his prime and he got kicked off Twitter and he was like, fine, we're making our own. And it was called Truth Social. And so a bunch of just like old white people got on it.
00:04:30
Speaker
White. No, I was not on it. But we're not over there, but you know what? Maybe we will be. It just depends on how the election goes, you

Game Ratings and Critiques

00:04:41
Speaker
know? Maybe everything is abolished and only truth social remains. We live in America, guys. Let's get into some of the juicy juices.
00:04:55
Speaker
Jesus. You finished Final Fantasy 7. Yep. So everything you hoped and dreamed it might be. This is obviously Rebirth, the second iteration of what's going to be a trilogy, correct? Yes. Yes. So how are we feeling about it? How are we feeling going into
00:05:14
Speaker
The third installment, even though that may be, you know, PlayStation six. Um, so I, I'm going to give it a nine out of 10. And the only reason I'm going to give it a nine out of 10 is because I have my, my very spanks out of 10. I actually counted that.
00:05:33
Speaker
Yeah, so like I give it a 9 out of 10 because I have my qualms. My qualms are like, you know, how they they took the open world tropes of other games and use that for their own game. And I'm not saying that's a bad or a good thing. The problem with that for me is, you know, you start to get in a loop where you get to a new area and it's cool because it's a new area and there's new terrain to do enemies. But you're doing the same thing over and over again. And I'm just kind of like,
00:06:02
Speaker
So I think I was like everyone else where like the first like two areas I was like super excited and I'm gonna 100% it and I just got burnt out straight up and It got to the point where I was missing the I wanted to be fed story beats more Than exploring the open world and doing the samey stuff. So I actually started just
00:06:23
Speaker
bee lining, I guess is the word, stop doing all that stuff and focusing on the story because that's the meat and cheese I wanted to consume. Meat and cheese, baby. But the great thing about that is now that I'm done with the game, I don't feel like I'm done. I want to go back and do all the side stuff, so that's what I'm going to go do now. Is there any plan DLCs of any kind?
00:06:47
Speaker
I'm assuming since the first game had DLC and this game is literally three times bigger, there are two main sections of the original game that didn't make it into this one. So that has a lot of like thought stirring

Disappointment with Dead Island 2

00:07:02
Speaker
if we'll dip into that for DLC or they'll save that for part three. So.
00:07:07
Speaker
Dippin' dots. Yeah. But like I said, the other thing I was saying in the beginning of the intro is like, I don't mind having like large parties, but I'm also that player that likes to pick my favorite three. And I want to run through the whole game with those three. Now, I should have learned my lesson because in remake, there were points in that game that forced you to play with every character. I should have been thinking about that. And like I said in the beginning, that last last fight took me so long because those other characters that I was neglecting.
00:07:37
Speaker
their their levels were good but they weren't equipped correctly the material wasn't set up right so i was just like pulling strings trying to get through that and you know so but like like i said those are that's just being nitpicky
00:07:53
Speaker
for them to take a game from 97 and approach it the way they did and expand on the world the way they did the lore and everything there's no way i could have done what they did so like hats off to them because it's just mind-blowing it really is
00:08:09
Speaker
I was seeing somebody on Twitter talk about Final Fantasy 16 and they were like, I don't their tweet was something like I don't understand how people can only put in 40 or less hours into this game or something. Yeah. And I commented with my hand up. I was like me. That's me because I'm literally doing nothing but the story like the whole game. The whole reason I want to play the game is yeah, it's for people that were like the story of this game is like
00:08:35
Speaker
Anime meets like Game of Thrones. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was like, I want that. And most of the time when I get on at night, I'm playing something multiplayer with friends. So the small moments that I have to play a single player game, unless it's something giant that I'm going to buy day one and I'm not, I don't care about the game like this that I got on like Black Friday, but I've been excited to play.
00:09:02
Speaker
I'm like, I want to put story. I think I did one of the first side missions and I was like, OK, I don't. I tried it. OK, so the majority of the side missions are like this, which is your typical like, oh, my husband went out to collect.
00:09:19
Speaker
more wheat and he hasn't returned and it's strange and then you go find him and he's like surrounded by a bunch of spiders. He's like, help, I'm surrounded by spiders and he kills spiders and he's like, oh, thank you so much. Here, have some wheat. And I'm like, okay, I'm not doing this. I'm not doing 50 of these.
00:09:37
Speaker
Okay, so in so I've seen a lot of comparisons between 16 and rebirth. So there are actually really good payoffs regarding character development, story, lore, etc, etc, etc. With rebirth side quests, and I would actually say they're a lot better than the side quests in remake.
00:09:59
Speaker
So I feel like if you're willing to venture out and you want more, it's worth doing the side stuff in this game for sure. And I'm sure in 16, it's similar. In all these games or any type of game that has a ton of side quests, there's always a handful that are like, wow, these are really good. But in the bulk of them, it's just kind of like samey stuff over and over.
00:10:20
Speaker
I would know, but I'm just here for this. I had two friends mention this because they were like, oh, Andrew, you haven't played 16, right? And I said no. And they're like, so it took you like two hours to do the final boss and rebirth. Have you done the Titan fight in 16? So my question to you is have you done the Titan fight in 16?
00:10:37
Speaker
I heard that is cool as crap. I have not. OK, I have done a lot of the boss fights. All the boss fights are super cool. I was just slowly chipping away at it, man. Just it's always like an hour here. Hour there. Yeah. A week goes by, I don't play it and then I'll play for like two hours one night and it's just kind of slowly. Have you caught wind of the length of that game?
00:11:00
Speaker
Like if you were to be line it or whatever. I don't know. OK. I what I do know is that I'm on there's three acts of the game. OK, so there is the first act and then spoiler alert. I mean, this game's like a year old almost, but.
00:11:17
Speaker
There's like your Avengers end game like five years later and then that starts like act two. Gotcha. And I'm probably like three hours into like three, four hours into act two. So maybe, I mean, if you, if it's all completely even 30 to 40% done with the game. Okay.

Comparing Zombie Games

00:11:38
Speaker
But if act three is like three hours long and it's just a boss fight, you know, then maybe not. I have no idea. Just doing story stuff.
00:11:47
Speaker
For the most part, like I'll venture off if I see an item in the distance, but that's about it. So for those listening and watching that are curious about the lengths of these games, I would say remake. You can probably be line in like 25, 30 hours. The main story. This game is like 50, 60 beeline completion is around 130, which is insane.
00:12:08
Speaker
a lot of guacamole!
00:12:26
Speaker
puts all of that to the next level. Even joke about racing, your turns and everything has to be perfect. It's hard mode, I heard. I'm scared of it, to be honest. I've thought about dipping into it, but we'll see.
00:12:43
Speaker
We'll see. The chocobo is just not enough, man. Yeah, maybe. Is there a super rare chocobo that you can find, like a shiny version? You know what's funny? It's like I haven't done any research into anything like that. What's kind of weird? Well, not weird, but like in the original seven breeding chocobos was a huge part of that game.
00:13:03
Speaker
Uh, maybe the word huge shouldn't be used here, but like it was an important part because there were certain secrets you could only reach without, you know, with a gold chocobo. Uh, they, they're, as far as I know, there's no breeding in this game, which is kind of strange. And I don't know if they're like saving that. I don't know if they're saving that for DLC or part three. It's going to be called the breeding DLC. And it's just going to be, and they're going to show you a lot of things you don't want to see.
00:13:25
Speaker
I would also

Hellblade 2 and FPS Debate

00:13:26
Speaker
say there's a lot of big changes story-wise with this compared to a remake. A remake for the most part was following a lot of similar beats to the original game. And then there were like a huge twist at the end. This game completely turns on its head. Like it's, it's exciting for old and new players for sure. So. Is it better? It's a question. Or is it just different?
00:13:52
Speaker
I want to say better and I'm using the word better, not so much in story, but I feel more connected to these characters, especially like hearing them talk, have emotion expressions and stuff like that. And there's a lot more interactions with these characters. Um, I don't know if I want to say the story is better because I would say it's more complicated. I think it's cooler that it's, it's stirring the thoughts of the fans and we're all like, you know, on the internet talking about theories. And I hope those theories pay off.
00:14:22
Speaker
I would say that the story and the original is a lot more easier to follow than what they're doing now. But I respect and I think it's cool what they're doing now. Well, I'm gonna talk about a game that I finished and then I got some we got some new game news kind of for a couple games. The game that I finished is not only the one and the only.
00:14:48
Speaker
Game Awards nominated for best action game of the year, Dead Island 2. Oh my gosh. Did you play that solo? No, I played it with a friend. Nice. We played the old Dead Island games together. So when two came out, we're like, we're not going to pay $70 for this game because we paid $70 for Dying Light 2. And boy, if I wish I couldn't have that $70 back. That game was $70?
00:15:15
Speaker
Yeah. And so we're like, we're not going to go when it drops below like 30. Yeah. We'll buy it. And then it went to get it went on game pass, whatever. So thank God I didn't have to spend any money on this game. It's really not much to say. It's a lot of it's weird because I'm trying to while we were playing, I was trying to remember old dead island stuff. And like I was like, didn't couldn't we like drive vehicles in the old dead islands? And then he's like, yeah, I'm pretty sure we did. Yeah, you could because we can't do that here.
00:15:45
Speaker
Wait, they took that out? They took so much stuff out, dude. What? There's something else that took out for it. We were talking about it. I heard there's cool new game mechanics, though, that you can do in this one. You couldn't do in the other one. Is that true? No? Oh, gosh. It's not the greatest game. Oh, gosh. I wouldn't say it's a bad game, but I also wouldn't say you need to go out and play this game. Is it worth $30?
00:16:16
Speaker
I mean, it's worse if you have game pass and you're bored. It's hilarious that it was nominated for best action game of the year. So like the actual like action fighting zombies is a fun time and you're going to be doing it a lot because they spawn like crazy pants.
00:16:38
Speaker
Um, the getting the blueprints and upgrading your weapons and stuff is fine. Uh, maybe a little bit better than the old games. Cause you got some, like, you can now like harvest zombie parts and, and, uh, use those to like upgrade certain blueprints and stuff like that. Whatever story. You can, you could guess what the story is right now. Right. You're not, first of all, it's called dead island, but you're in Los Angeles.
00:17:07
Speaker
Don't understand that. Not an island. Same as like the first games you're infected. No, you're not. You're immune. You need to figure out how you can save the planet. No one knows. The doctor is bad. He did bad things. You need to kill him. The end. That's the story. Ellie, the first person shooter. Nice. Exactly. Told you. Nice. But that's about it. I mean, it was.
00:17:35
Speaker
We were trying to complete everything as we went. And we did so for about 60 to 70% of the game. It was like anytime there's a side mission, we're doing it before we move on. And the side missions were pretty much just like the normal missions, which is just like whatever. Go here, find this thing, kill boss, which isn't...
00:17:57
Speaker
Anything special. And then we

Gaming Nostalgia and Current Favorites

00:18:00
Speaker
hit a side mission that just like was the most, I think we spent an hour. They had these missions called lost and found missions where you literally, it's like, Hey, there's a really rare weapon. You need to go find it. And then it has like trails that tell you where to go. Yeah. And it took us like an hour and we were like, we finally did it. And we're like, this is the stupidest thing. It didn't take us an hour because it was complex. It takes an hour because it didn't make any sense. What about the path?
00:18:26
Speaker
It was awful. It was like a blue rare weapon, which is akin to a blue weapon in like destiny. It was just like, I'm so glad that I got the 70% of the game. I'm not going to use this at all. So it was at that moment, which was last night that we're like, all right, no more side missions. Let's just beat this thing. Yeah. It's just freaking main mission all the way home. And we did it. So that's really all there is to say. Is that a nice weight off the shoulder? Sure.
00:18:58
Speaker
Well, it was one of those things where it was like, OK, like we we were playing it where it's it's a fine time, I guess. Yeah. And like we're in it. So like we want to beat it. And so we would like hop on and we'd be like, you know, let's just play dying lives. I mean, Dead Island. So we could just like get it done. So thank God it's done. I'm just going to say that. Thank God it's done. So let's say the best zombie like game you've played probably is Les was part two.
00:19:28
Speaker
Because you played Back 4 Blood, right? Because I never played that. So with Dead Island, they do this card system. Back 4 Blood has a card system for your builds and stuff. And it seemed like Dead Island was like, let's not copy it, but let's do a version of that, where you collect all these cards, but they're more like abilities. They call them cards, but they're more just like abilities.
00:19:50
Speaker
You can do different builds with them. And then we have these special cards like zombie cards that like do something really good, but also do something really bad. But you can like make builds with it and stuff like that. But for us, and maybe if we really wanted to get in real deep into builds and stuff, it would be worth it. But it just wasn't like all those special cards were like.
00:20:10
Speaker
This thing, this move will give you a major boost of damage for the next 10 seconds, but will heavily drain your health. And it's like, okay. And that was like all the cards were like that. And one time I was like, you know what? Let's just figure it out. Let's see how fast this thing's going to drain my health. Cause all the bad is always like health draining stuff.
00:20:31
Speaker
Yeah. So I did it and it was like fast. It was like, if I continue to do what this card is, I'm going to die. Like it'll drain from full health to no health in probably like three seconds. Like it was cheese. And I was like, okay, I'm not touching these cards anymore. So it just went back for blood. It was awesome. Like their card building, their deck building, I had like
00:20:54
Speaker
six or seven builds and like then the deals a DLC would drop and I would do more builds and it was like awesome like they did it super well and I hope they do it another one again but as far as multiplayer zombie games goes though honestly the best one I've played in the last since dead island one would probably probably be like World War Z that was okay back for blood is up there as well
00:21:23
Speaker
all the kind of Left 4 Dead Lite like games that actually did it fairly well. But Dying Light 2, absolute garbo. Dead Island 2, slightly less garbo. Gotcha, gotcha. Speaking of garbage, there was a mission, a side mission in that game when we were still doing side mission. That was this guy that was like, I lost my bag.
00:21:46
Speaker
Help me find it. And we literally like went to the sewers and you hold X to search dumpsters and it takes you like five to six seconds to just sit there and you're joking. And then we did that to about 13 dumpsters and then we found this bag and then we took us back to him and that was it. And I was like. Oh, man, they really went real 2009 on this game, didn't they? Good gosh. All right. We have some new games that are happening and I want to get your takes on it. All right.
00:22:15
Speaker
Number one, before I go into the one that I have on my screen, Stellar Blade demo came out. I knew, I knew that was coming up. Have you seen this? Are you interested? I know people that have played it says like, it's kind of like, uh, uh, souls like, uh, meets.
00:22:37
Speaker
actions something like I was like, Oh, maybe Andrew will be interested in this guy. So have I seen it? Of course these eyes have seen it. I've been on social media. You've only seen the skinless version. I've seen physics. I've seen textures and it looks phenomenal.
00:22:57
Speaker
Gameplay wise it is down my alley Like they're calling it. I I You know, I don't want to look at just from looking at it. I don't want to say souls like for me. It's very Bayonetta Near yeah, yeah souls game or so. I have not like I have not played it. Is it a is it a public demo? I
00:23:21
Speaker
I don't know if it was a public demo, but I don't know if it's just a demo you can go and download right now or feels only like for a certain amount of time. Okay, well, I'll look into that after this for sure. But yeah, the the gameplay is right up my alley. So I do want to dive into it. But yeah, the yeah, there's a lot of emphasis on physics in that game. And you know, they they know how to pull people in. So they did what they did. They did what they did. Japanese people know no shame.
00:23:49
Speaker
when they make a game, you know? Yeah, they do. Are you going to be playing on a hard mode? Why would I do that, Andrew? I mean, there's going to be a lot of suits. There's going to be a lot. I think it'll be hard mode IRL playing the game, but they get.
00:24:11
Speaker
No, it looks it's not my type of game per se. But who knows? Maybe you're not a devil may cry a band at a boy. Not really. I've tried to be in the past.
00:24:27
Speaker
Long ago, I was on tour one time and I had to switch and I was like, I'm going to, both Bayonetta games were like in a bundle for sales. Like I'm going to buy them both because it's on sale and I'm going to play them this tour. And then I played the first one for maybe 45 minutes and play anymore. And I was like, it just didn't grab me. That's fair. That's fair. Teacher was on the grab.
00:24:55
Speaker
We are three years old, everyone. Um, the second game that I want to tell you about, three year olds don't think like that, but sure. When I was three, when I was three watching Power Rangers, I was like, man, that pink brain train. Oh my God. Pretty hot. Pretty hot.
00:25:12
Speaker
Wow. What were your cartoon or like Power Rangers-y crushes growing up? So this is going to be shocking to hear. I had no crushes from Power Rangers. So people watching listening, I'm a little bit older than most of the crew on here. He's like 20, 30 years older. My first
00:25:36
Speaker
Back in my day no my big honestly my first major crush on television Was Kelly from saved by the bill dude straight. I was literally straight I was waiting for you to answer but I was gonna say it was pink Ranger and then Kelly saved by the bill No, no, it's it's so funny. You think like you think watching power Rangers. I would I never crushed on like any of those
00:25:59
Speaker
characters at all. My wife and I literally, I literally told my wife like two days ago, I was like, when I was growing up, my mom would clean and like, paint people's houses and like wallpaper people's houses. Okay. So when I was in like, I don't know, the third, fourth, second grade, whatever the time that I was young and saved by the bell was happening. She would take me and just plop me in a room and put on saved by the bell. And then I would go to school as like a first grader and be in like,
00:26:29
Speaker
like playing out like who's what character from save by bell and i was like well i have to be zac you know because and then i would like find mike kelly as a little boy i would say the only time

Destiny 2: Into the Light Expansion

00:26:41
Speaker
my blood started rushing watching power rangers was every time the megazord came out and trying to and and then trying to figure out the whole white ranger thing that's what that's what made my blood boil
00:26:54
Speaker
But no crushes. And there was definitely no stellar blade-like crushes. We were not allowed to see those things. Okay, so there's some news from a game that came out today. Hellblade 2 previews are out. And before I say the bad, Andrew, I'm gonna tell you the good.
00:27:15
Speaker
Okay. The good is that everybody that's played the previews are like, this game is phenomenal. Can't wait. It's going to be gaming. I think I know where you're bad. It's going to go. Let's, let's see. Um, I think runs at 30 frames per second on series X and S no performance mode. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. So I, you, this podcast, I've been a stickler for modern day 60 FPS. You want to know why I'm okay with this?
00:27:46
Speaker
I think this game and the first game are very cinematic. That's why I think it's fine. It's going to be fine. I don't disagree with that. Do you look at the original game and you look at this game and you think of this game as a fast paced game? Because I don't. I don't care.
00:28:09
Speaker
It's not it's not even that I would play it at 60 frames. It's just it needs to be. Why is it just not an option? For any game that comes out to just be like, all right, you can have potato graphics, but here's your 60 frames.
00:28:27
Speaker
It's like I said, I think with this game, I'm personally making the exception of cinematic. I think the game is slow and methodical. I think it's its emphasis on visuals and audio is more important than like the game moving fast and smooth, in my opinion. But I agree. You're correct. But no exception. No exceptions. I can give it a start. And here's.
00:28:51
Speaker
the even bigger problem, your Xbox, you just had this whole thing with Starfield. And now you're going to have Hellblade 2 come out and be the exact, like, I almost think it hinders, you can almost make the argument that not having 60 frames hindered Starfield for some people.
00:29:10
Speaker
like even purchasing the game at all. That announcement pre game release did was a huge negative for a lot of people. Yeah. Yeah. And so you're going to come up with another basically your next big triple A first party game and it's also not going to have 60 frames. So you're going to have the whole conversation all over again.
00:29:31
Speaker
Here's my question. Is this exclusive? I can't remember. It's exclusive. Oh, shoot. OK, that's that's my biggest problems. Like, what do you you're doing this to yourself, Xbox?
00:29:43
Speaker
The game is, like I said, the previews come out, everybody's like game of the freaking year, quality good. Everything you just said, very cinematic. Graphically, it's going to be absolutely like the resolution is going to be top notch. The game is going to be awesome. I'm hoping it gets 10 out of 10s. Everybody who plays it and loves it.
00:30:03
Speaker
OK, so there's still going to be a narrative around not having a 60 frames performance mode, and it's going to be the same thing with Xbox. Oh, now the last two big AAA games come out for Xbox didn't have 60 frames mode.
00:30:18
Speaker
So we hate Xbox and you're not making it any easier. If you're Phil Spencer, whoever. Okay. So I just confirmed, I was like, wait, did the first game run at 60? Apparently it could. Um, I don't know if it did a vanilla launch, but apparently can run at 60. They may have upgraded it when new consoles came out for like a 60 frames mode or whatever.
00:30:41
Speaker
But that's what I'm saying, like, even if you have, you know, this thing's going to go down to switch graphics, if we give you 60 frames mode, it's there. And so no one has to talk about that. Is this on Game Pass? Yeah, it would be on Game Pass. But see, like, I know it's a I know it's a little bit of a negative for you, but I know you're still going to play it. I mean, I'm going to play it. I'm not saying for me. I'm just talking about Xbox.
00:31:04
Speaker
as a unit that we want to be good, but they keep on shooting themselves in the foot. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. Go on Twitter right now and just start scrolling. And if you have a video game Twitter like I do, 80% of it's going to be hellblades only 30 frames, hellblades only 30 frames, Xbox six frames. Like all you had to do was come up with potato mode.
00:31:27
Speaker
with you know just the stick it doesn't matter it can be resolution to 140 p just give us 60 frames so people just have it so that this isn't even an account like a conversation yeah they'll be articles written
00:31:42
Speaker
from big media gaming publications that this game doesn't run at 60 frames. And they could just be talking about the previews and how good it is. All you had to do was just put in a crappy 60 frames mode. Well, here's a question. Do you think they're going to take that feedback and be like, oh, crap, it's like an over, like over amount of negativity. It's like, no, this is Xbox we're talking about. They didn't do it with Starfield and I can do it with this game.
00:32:09
Speaker
See, I heard some, see, I thought the negative remark that you were gonna bring up was I heard the game is short. That's better. Okay, so this is from Shinobi602 on Twitter, which is just the first tweet that pops up when I search Hellblade 2. Gotcha. He has basically all like the bullet points of the game, of the preview. Runs at 30 FPS on both Series X and S, dynamic resolution, no performance mode. Senua is traveling to Iceland to hunt down the Vikings that destroyed her home in the first game.
00:32:37
Speaker
Otherworldly creatures like Draugr and Giants roam the land. Combat is similar to the first game, but impact of hits feel heavier. Fights are 100% mocapped. Parry Window appears less forgiving this time around. Increased variety of enemy types plus attack animations for Senua.
00:32:56
Speaker
New ability, a handheld mirror that can temporarily slow down enemies to land combos. Puzzles are largely familiar. Find runics shapes in the environment. There are secrets hidden in the environment that can be discovered and quieter moments where you can check in on allies. Hmm. We'll see what these other tweets going on here. All I did was search Hellblade 2 on Twitter. Hellblade 2 being at 30 FPS on Xbox isn't surprising after all the redfall in Starfield. That's the second one that pops up.
00:33:26
Speaker
Here's a two minute video of the Hellblade combat. Here's a meme that says Hellblade two run at 30 FPS. Um, there's another meme with some wrestler that says 30 FPS. Here is a official tweet from the official game spot Twitter. Hashtag Hellblade two runs at 30 FPS while dynamic scaling confirms an injury theory. So that's, that's what I'm saying here in people.
00:33:55
Speaker
I'm saying here, you could have just, you could have just put in 60 FPS and it could have been awful. And people have been like, talking about the previous minute, there is a 60 frames per second version, although we recommend the 30 frames per second version. And then that'd been it. You can move done instead

Speculation on Bungie's Strategy

00:34:11
Speaker
of half of these tweets being 30 FPS, 30 FPS, 30 FPS, 30 FPS. Such a shame. Um,
00:34:23
Speaker
I don't, I don't even have words. I'm excited for the game. Like I said, it's going to be on game pass. It's going to, it comes out in like a month or something like that. It comes out in May. Do you think the, do you think the pushing point for the next like Xbox console is going to be like every game, 60 frames per second. People are like, finally. Yes. I don't know.
00:34:47
Speaker
It's so strange because like we talked about this a couple of podcasts ago, like less than 1% of the games that come out don't have a 60 FPS mode. Like since the launch of PS5 and Series X, games that have PS5 logo, the Series X logo, like less than 1% of the games don't have a 60 FPS version. It just so happens that Starfield, Redfall, and now Hellblade 2
00:35:16
Speaker
three that were games that are supposed to be Xbox's big giant. We have games now games are three of the ones that are stuck at 30 FPS. Obviously Redfall was just a garbage truck on fire. That could have a game could have been 8K 120 FPS. It wouldn't matter. That's fair. That's fair. But with starfield in this game, like you like it, like as the developers of this game as well, like
00:35:45
Speaker
You're like, all right, the previews are coming out today. You're super pumped. You're like, we worked really hard on this game for a very, very long time. It's finally coming out. It's really, really good. And then it's just everything. It's just only 30 FPS, only 30 FPS, only 30 FPS. It's like, how did y'all not know this? Y'all knew this was gonna happen. Somebody in Xbox, either everyone just needs to be wiped clean. There had to have been somebody that was like,
00:36:13
Speaker
Um, you guys know that because it's just 30 FPS, like that's going to be the main topic of conversation. I just wanted to make that clear that y'all know this before we do all this. And they're like, no, the game's too good. It won't even matter. Release it to the wolves. And then here we are. I don't know. I have no words.
00:36:37
Speaker
He has a lot of words, but he has no words. I have no words, but also a lot of words. And this makes me think like, is the PS5 Pro like specifically for the 60 FPS crowd? Like it's the reason we don't know a lot of what PlayStation has coming up is because it's similar to these types of games where it's like,
00:37:05
Speaker
there for some reason only going to be 30 FPS. So like we need to get this PS5 Pro announced so we can. Well, when we when we show off games, we can say, yeah, playing at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro. But we just won't tell people that it's only 30 FPS on PS5. Well, we keep hearing about Xbox, but are there games that are on PS5 that are locked at 30? I like I don't even know. Like you don't hear any news announcements about that. It's always like I'm I'm playing Final Fantasy 16 right now.
00:37:31
Speaker
and they have a garbage 60 FPS performance mode, which is the mode I'm playing on. People recommend you play that game at 30 FPS, because it looks way better. And when you play in that garbage performance mode like I am, the combat is 95% of smooth 60 FPS. But the second you're out of combat, the second you kill that last enemy and it puts you back in the real world and you're walking around talking to people doing stuff,
00:38:01
Speaker
it chug chug chug chugging I heard that's a dragon dog was too issue apparently when you're in town is horrible when you're yeah when if you're not in combat and found fantasy 16 like
00:38:15
Speaker
It it's even worse because it fluctuate from like probably like 30 to 50 FPS. Yeah. And so it's not even like a steady like it would probably be better if it was just like in combat 60 FPS out of combat a stable 30 FPS because then you're like getting the same frames. But this is just like you're like for half a second, it's really smooth. And then for the next five seconds, it's 30 FPS. And it's just like. Crazy. Would you play the game if it was like
00:38:43
Speaker
it's basically uncapped so when you're in combat it is 60 but when you go to town it's 30 and it was made like that would that be better for you i think it would be better in general yeah okay
00:38:56
Speaker
Because like, you want your combat fast, but you're fine with the slower stuff to be 30. I mean, I would rather it be stable than like, like just being. That's fair. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like, oh, I hit a, I hit a five second window. That was really smooth. And now for the next two minutes, it's choppy. And it's just like, yeah. And then there's those times where like you hit a, where it's literally, it's like one frame, 61 frames 30. And you don't know what's happening. Yeah. Um, but the combat's smooth 60, which is great. That's what I'm saying. Like.
00:39:26
Speaker
Final Fantasy 16 was a big game. If they would have not put that in, that would have been a conversation of like, oh, Big Mighty PS5 can't do 60 frames per second. And it would have hurt the game. Even if it just hurts it a little bit, it still hurts it. Like Hellblade 2 is going to be a great game. I have no doubt, especially with these previews that are coming out. But even if it's just a minor hurt,
00:39:49
Speaker
Like just not putting in a crappy 60 frames mode hurts it more than, than because of just what I've just read readings through the tweets. Just like 70% of these tweets are knocks at X-Box knocks at 30 FPS talking about starfield still all this bull crap. And it's just like, all I gotta do is put in a little crappy version.
00:40:13
Speaker
You could even said that there was one coming and then when it releases, just not have one, just lie to us and be like, oh, it's bugged out guys. That's, that's, that's going to be negative press. You can't do that. But by that point, we've already bought the game. Sure. Um, any final thoughts, Andrew?
00:40:38
Speaker
Any final thoughts? Honestly, I'm just ecstatic to be gaming again, to be honest. I'm really, really excited for Tuesday for Destiny. Oh, I know, right? I think that's partially just because we got back in it. Yeah. Where it just kind of runs into into the light. Yeah. And I actually forgot it was that soon, to be honest. Yeah. And everything that they said about into the light is really exciting. Yeah. Even to the point where like, even if it is just like a
00:41:08
Speaker
after we do like 10 runs of onslaught, we're just kind of over it. It's still great knowing that we like old players and friends of mine that are not up to snuff can come in, even create, even brand new players can come in, skip the new light campaign and have decent armor and decent build going into final shape. Like, that's exciting.
00:41:35
Speaker
So I don't know if you heard about this. So people that are listening that don't know this. In Destiny, whenever a new raid comes out, we have what you call the raid race. And if you win the raid race, your team is the first team in the world to win it. You get like this big wrestling belt. It's like a prestigious thing. It's super cool. They've actually said with this new horde mode that comes out next Tuesday, the first three teams in the world that beat it, they actually get a statue.
00:42:03
Speaker
Mail to them of shacks. It's an actual are we doing it? Are we gonna do it like an actual? No, but it has to be on legendary mode. Apparently. Are we gonna do it? I'm not against that. The only problem is I work midday. So I can't be on at lunch. So It sounds like I don't want to say this until now but it sounds like you know something wrong with your voice You might be coming down with something you might have to call out. Yeah Yeah, it's a little it's a little itchy
00:42:32
Speaker
But no, like, you know, it I basically took a year off from gaming. I was doing some casual gaming at night in bed on the Steam Deck. But, you know, I still keep up with the websites and all that stuff. And over the past year, we've been doing the podcast and I can give my insights on stuff.
00:42:48
Speaker
I've literally taken a year off and it's consumed a lot of time and it's kept me up till 4am, but it's been awesome diving back into Destiny, getting exciting to make builds, playing Final Fantasy 7, getting into that world and that combat. I've gotten into Helldivers 2 now. The wife can't say anything because I took a year off, but Andrew's back into gaming and I love it, man. I love it. I've missed it for sure.
00:43:15
Speaker
We also got a Pantheon coming out April 30th, so they haven't sent a ton on. I know what it is. Do you know what it is? I know it's raid bosses. Yeah, it's a boss rush mode. That's super cool, man. That apparently we can get our like, like the emblems and the weapons easier, which is great because that's what I've been trying to do for like... I think the reason I got back into Destiny was to try to get some of these raid exotics. Yeah, that's so cool. But it all makes sense. Like you want...
00:43:46
Speaker
As Bungie, you want everybody that's played Destiny, whether they've played the whole time or they're coming back for the Final Shape or whatever. Yeah. You want them to have whatever they want to feel as powerful as possible going into the Final Shape.
00:44:02
Speaker
because like you want them to come in when their vex myth the class builds all the raid weapons all the boosted craftable weapons ready to go with their triple hundred rolls and all the things so that the witness can just like demolish you and you'd be like oh crap dude i did all this work for nothing i really hope that it's hard that's going to be the the one thing for me like it makes sense to me like they're doing all this
00:44:30
Speaker
to make us all happy and feel super powerful and that the final shape is going to be extremely difficult.
00:44:38
Speaker
I hope so. I mean, just like anything else, I'm going to play it on hard mode or legendary mode anyway, right from the get go. For me, I'm just happy because I've been very down on Bungie the last year and Destiny. And I had mentioned a few podcasts back way before into the light about how even though I've been down on it, I was like, this is something that's been a part of my life for almost a decade.
00:45:02
Speaker
I was really hoping that they would get out of that rut and they hit like an all time low this year. And this whole into the light, uh, the, the new horn mode, the Pantheon mode, all of this is building up all that new hype and excitement. And it's going to, and I hope this is going to bring people back. And like you said, we're going to go into this new expansion and it's going to be so sick and they're going to knock it out of the park and destiny can be on a high again. So like, I'm really excited again. So.
00:45:31
Speaker
Same. And I still have questions and we'll probably never know. And that like the delay was like into the light going to happen or was the delay of the final shape. And then they just kind of made into the light. But wouldn't you want to just, if you were going to delay the final shape, have all hands on deck for the final shape or was some of this supposed to be in like the first episode?
00:46:01
Speaker
After the final shape and they're like, it's ready. So let's, since we're delaying it, we can kind of like shift the episodes around or the content or whatever. I'm not going to lie. You've kind of scared me with that comment because I'm thinking to myself, the light bulbs going off where I'm like, Oh, did they delay it to build something to build hype?
00:46:22
Speaker
but the final shape isn't good and they haven't done any extra work on it, or like you said, was into the light content stripped from this whole new seasonal thing. And they actually did put more work into it. So you've actually started a lot of thoughts to be honest. Yeah, it's so strange because it was like when the final shape was deliberate, they said, oh, we need more time to make it as good as like what they said in the freaking thing, as good as the witch queen or forsaken or whatever like that.
00:46:52
Speaker
Like, okay, great. Do that. And then you still come out with Into the Light, which we all love. I'm not saying it's going to suck or anything. I'm really excited to play it. It's just strange that it's out, that it's happening. Like, I want to know, my first question would be, was Into the Light going to happen?
00:47:08
Speaker
If the game wasn't delayed, like was this really supposed to be in like February or I guess January. Cause it was supposed to come out February. Then what got pushed to April then got pushed to June. So like originally was this supposed to happen like in December or January going into February or was so like when you delayed the final shape, you also delayed into the light.
00:47:30
Speaker
Well, say the other thing I think we're also downplaying is Bungie had, I can't remember where it is. It's in Europe, right? They're, they're having this new headquarters built, right? So I was assuming with that and the Sony acquisition, their, their team grew, assuming. So like, would it take, would it take like- But they also laid off a bunch.
00:47:50
Speaker
No, it's true. So it's like, did we take an eighth of our team to make into the light and then everybody else onto the next expansion? Like, I don't know. No one knows. We have questions, but if you're listening, come on the podcast. We have questions for you. Let's go. All right, everybody. Well, that is going to do it for us here. We want to thank you all for listening and we will be with you again.
