Let's
00:00:13
Speaker
What's up, everybody? Welcome to the Log on Games podcast for Friday, March the 8th.

Discussion Topics: Final Fantasy & Destiny

00:00:21
Speaker
On this episode, we're going to talk about whatever the heck we want. Oh, snap. Wow. Chaos. Chaos. I mean, it's true. It's just facts. We're going to just roll with the punches this episode. I'm sure Andrew's going to want to talk some Final Fantasy. I'm going to talk some Final Fantasy.
00:00:29
Speaker
break it!
00:00:39
Speaker
For some reason, we've all played Destiny in the last 24 hours, which makes strange. Yeah, that's it. But we're going to look into some stuff that we're playing.

First Mosh Pit Experiences

00:00:49
Speaker
And then we're just going to talk about Sleep Token for the remaining 45 minutes. That's a Christian bid for those who don't. Yep. With me today, you can find him.
00:01:05
Speaker
Somewhere. It always excites me to listen to whatever quiff he comes up with before. You can watch it like create. Yeah, I don't think about it beforehand. I don't have anything planned, but you can find him somewhere at Brown Berserker. We have Andrew with us on the podcast.
00:01:31
Speaker
Oh, you're going to you're going to was it you're going to be in the ferry or what was it? I think the spake the ferry space. You'd be spanking that one breakdown. They spake the ferry. Just crowd killing everywhere. Oh, God. All right, Andrew, tell me the first pit you were ever in.
00:02:00
Speaker
Oh, dude, no joke. I can tell you. So I saw Azalea dying on their second record that tour. Oh, man. Pretty murder. Got it. So so I was with my first girlfriend like ever and we went to that show and they started and she just pushed me into the pit. I've never been in a pit my entire life.
00:02:27
Speaker
Like, this is the impression I get with my first girlfriend, like, ever. She's like, boom. And to add to that story, we had to have a one on one talk with her mom to tell her that was a Christian band we were going to see for her to go. I mean, that's what you got to do. You know, that happened. Not a very Christian move for her to push you into a. No.
00:02:51
Speaker
She's baptizing me with her her hands Oh Also today you can find him Also somewhere over there Over
00:03:15
Speaker
to the west a little bit, a little bit up. If we kept the podcast rolling, y'all just carried it on, I could just drive to Carlos' house, open that door behind him. That'd be so friggin funny. Shut the door and then drive all the way back. That'd be so funny. You could. I guess. Well, it was coming to do like a little guest, like we'll get two microphones and then just have, you can feel like there's a couch. There's a couch. Yeah, you can chill. And we can get really, really close together. I can be like on an iPad. We're doing a duet together.
00:03:46
Speaker
At Raw Flow My Waffles, we have Carlos with us on the podcast. Carlos, ever been in a pit before? I have been in pits. I've been in mosh pits. Ever crowd surfed, ever stage dove.
00:04:03
Speaker
Been in armpits. Oh, man. Like he's he's probably not joking about that. Maybe not. Yeah, so my very first mosh pit was actually a local show at this very rundown venue called Vito's and Danny. It was Danny Vito's.
00:04:28
Speaker
It was like an old Victorian style home that the bottom part was like a pizza place and a bar and the top part was where all the music was happening. And that place somehow, I don't know, like structurally how it could withstand what happened up there because like you would go upstairs and you could see like
00:04:51
Speaker
This giant, because it was all wood floor. It's an old home and this giant dark round spot where it's like that's where everyone has been. That's where all the shoes have been stomping around. And I was always like thinking every time I went to a show, today's the day this floor is going to collapse in like 30 sweaty people are going to fall through into the pizzeria, which by the way, their pizza.

Mosh Pit Stories & Destiny Mechanics

00:05:13
Speaker
No, no. That's him. We ordered their pizza once and they got the liver to us and we opened it up and like all the cheese and stuff was like stuck to the lid and it was all just pink. We ate it anyway. Like it was it. I don't know. We ate it. I mean, maybe it was a bit small on it. Maybe.
00:05:35
Speaker
But yeah, there was a show that was going on and I was like, oh, yeah, I'm going to jump in this pit. And this big dude in the white shirt just like was flailing around. His fist met my face. And I was like, oh, he was like, he was cool about it. He was like, oh, my bad, dude. Like, oh, yeah, it's all good. We're having fun. But it was it was a solid hit.
00:05:55
Speaker
I wish I still had a video we went to work for one time and we were, I forget who we were watching, but I had a video of someone getting a backhand fist right to the face and he was like wearing glasses. It was a great video. I wish I still had it. See, both the things that you guys are saying sound like accidental, right? You know, like how people just flail like, I had a guy gut punch me in a pit. Oh yeah. That seems intentional, right?
00:06:19
Speaker
Yeah, no, there are those people in the pits where they are like, hoping they're like, they're almost wanting to just fight people for that. Why would you hit like a little Tootsie roll like me? Like, seriously, like, let's go after like the weakest target. Like, seriously?
00:06:36
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. I don't get this, people. When I saw Tesseract last, they had a circle pick going and people had been moshing the whole time. But like, you know, accidents happen, people get knocked over, whatever. But the end of the show, everybody in the pit got together and they all gave each other a hug. It was like, hey, no hard feelings. And I was like, dude, that is so wholesome.
00:06:54
Speaker
Look, I'm gonna be a boomer. I miss Pushmosh and I know I'm gonna get hate for that. Hey, Pushmosh. That was fun. No one was getting punched and kicked in the face. The first pit I was in was Pushmosh for the most part. It was Emery at the handlebar. Greenville, South Carolina. Nice. We're actually seeing them this year.
00:07:18
Speaker
Yeah, they're going to be here soon. Yeah, they're going to be here like a month or two. I think it's also in May. In February. We used to have a poster that had Emory and had their picture, but their picture cut off the E. Or one of the E, so it just said Emfry. This was also like I was not I was grounded and I stuck out.
00:07:46
Speaker
to go to the show. I didn't know you were a bad boy. I never got caught neither. His mom's going to come in with a slipper in the back. My mom was the one that took me. Wait, what? My dad grounded me. My dad grounded me. My mom took me to the show. How does that work? It's a magic magic. It's a secret. Dad doesn't know.
00:08:07
Speaker
He doesn't. He's never really not listening to this. I actually put dad to sleep and then snuck in. Well, he was asleep. He was asleep. That was part of it. I hired Tim the beast. No, I'm just kidding.
00:08:23
Speaker
But it was it was really funny that you mentioned what you said, Andrew, because it was like we went to this show and Emery was a Christian band at the time. And then Sunday school, the following Sunday, we got scolded for going to see a Christian band at a bar. I can't do anything right, man. You can't get it right. But you know what? It was worth it. And it was awesome. You're like, I swear they were serving holy water that night. There was no alcohol.
00:08:51
Speaker
I know it says the handlebar. Yeah. The handlebar. They changed the menu. They did have good food at the handlebar. We are breaking bread. The best kind of venue was the kind of venue at the handlebar. Giant venue, but then you just go in the back, get yourself some chicken thingies. Heck yeah. Call it a day. It's good.

Venues & Nostalgia in Destiny

00:09:13
Speaker
Now it's ready to find a good food at a venue, right? Yes, very much so.
00:09:18
Speaker
We went to go see a show, uh, Emily and I last month and Emily went to the bar area to get something to drink. And they had Skittles at this bar area, which is weird. She comes back. Yeah. She comes back and she has Skittles. I was like, where'd you get Skittles from? She's like, they had him at the bar. I said, I'm going to get a pack of Skittles and bartender was really, really excited. She says, no good. Nobody ever buys them.
00:09:43
Speaker
Oh, that package has been sitting there for three years. Extra hard. I the whole thing I had had Skittles in forever and then I ate them. I was like, you know what? Skittles are great. Heck yeah, do they slap? I remember when we saw Maylene when I saw them at that church, they were they had a little kitchen and they were making grilled PB and J's. Wow. They were delicious. First time I had a grilled PB and J was at that show.
00:10:14
Speaker
That's that would kill me. There's nothing more mailing than a grill. That would kill you. Yeah. Because PB, you know, unfortunately, because of the P and the B. Yeah. Not the B, just the P. We're laughing at letters.
00:10:29

and comment how your life was the first time you were ever in a pit. Pit! Just any type of pit. The first time you ever heard the words, let's open up this pit. Let's open up this pit. I was like, what does that mean?
00:11:08
Speaker
Where's the pit that I need to open? One of the craziest pits I ever saw was at Taste of Chaos. It's actually 30 Seconds the Mars played. Jared Leto climbed up at the very top of like they had this tall structure. He was so drunk. But I don't remember what band was playing, but it was they did the Wall of Death thing.
00:11:26
Speaker
and being, actually, I didn't even get in that one. I was in it, but I was not close to where everyone, because I was getting good video of it, a good video of it on my flip phone from 2007. Yeah, I guess. Solid video. Yeah, and it was wild.
00:11:47
Speaker
I took a video at a festival one time. It was outdoor festival. And there was there was pit happening, but it was it was like on the dirt. Oh, it probably used to be grass because all dirt. So unless you were standing like in the first three rows of people, all you saw was just dust, dust, just dirt and dust everywhere. Breathing it in. If you were wearing a white shirt. Well, it's a brown shirt now. Yeah.
00:12:15
Speaker
Um, let's talk some video games.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Open World & Mechanics

00:12:19
Speaker
Let's talk rock band. No, I'm just kidding. Play some rock band. I've got everything. I have. I think we all have. You got rock band stuff, too. You get a guitar. I've got the drums. I play real instruments. Wow. Freaking nerd.
00:12:37
Speaker
What do you have right been done on 360 station 360? Doesn't count. Wow. Wow. Rude. Because I mean, we can't. There's no cross play 360 to PS5. I don't think so. PS5. You can play rock band on PS5. Yeah, I mean, technically, I guess it's PS4, but the PS4 game run on the PS5. Yeah.
00:13:00
Speaker
Wait, which rock band did they re-release rock band for? Rock band four. Okay. I've got one and two. Get on there. Get that sleep token. It's on there. Summoning. I'll get it when they come out with a metal band. I've got clone hero and I've got every, every crazy song I want on clone heroes. So yeah, clone heroes. Andrew.
00:13:30
Speaker
You've probably been playing the most hot game on the market right now. Final Fantasy 7 2. Final Fantasy 7 2. Final Fantasy 7 2. Rebirth integrated. Ultima max. Do you have to play the first one to know what's going on in a second one?
00:13:51
Speaker
Uh, so there's a, on the main menu where you can pick new game, continue, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. There is a, like the story so far. So they've created like a video, I guess, for people to like watch before they play it. So technically no, you don't have to. Oh, I was joking. Wow. I was like, that's rhetorical. I thought like you actually had to play the first one because it's final fantasy seven.
00:14:17
Speaker
No, like I said, I haven't watched that video, but apparently I think that gives you enough. OK. Main story to like go into the next. Take notes, Bungie. Take notes, Bungie. Right now, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth sitting at a 92 Metacritic score. It's all the rage. Andrew, how are you feeling about it? How far are you into it? What's your life like? Does it make you?
00:14:46
Speaker
It makes me want to spank the fairy. Let's hear it. I'm on chapter eight and for the record I am staying away from anything on the internet so I don't know how many chapters are in the game.
00:15:05
Speaker
I don't know how long the game is. I'm assuming the game is like 60 hours or something, 50, 60. I'm on chapter eight and I'm at 30 hours. That being said, I'm playing this game a lot different than any other game because every new region I'm opening up, I'm like 100%, which I've never done. The only game I've ever done that before was Ghost of Tsushima.
00:15:27
Speaker
So because this is Final Fantasy and this is a game from my childhood that I love, I'm soaking it up. I'm doing all the side quests. I'm finding all the collectibles, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. So I'm at 30 hours doing all that stuff. If I was to beeline it, I'm assuming it would be a lot less hours. But not only that, you're playing Final Fantasy 7.
00:15:51
Speaker
Yeah, so yeah, I mentioned this in the discord. I actually started the OG Final Fantasy 7 on my Steam Deck. So I'm playing Rebirth during the day and then when I go to bed, I'm playing 7 for like an hour and I've been doing that like each day.
00:16:08
Speaker
The last two weeks preparing for Rebirth, I beat Remake again, I beat the DLC, and I was consuming nothing but videos and podcasts on Final Fantasy VII Lore for like a week prior just to let's get into that world and everything again before Rebirth came out.

Critique: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

00:16:29
Speaker
So you're 30 hours in.
00:16:48
Speaker
We're going to say remake is a bunch of like hallways. So we'll we'll say it's like, you know, it's path per se. There's not there's not much like branch off here, branch off there. It's very what linear, you know, I'm saying here. So then you step into this game and what they've done is they've taken all the critical spots of the second disk, basically the second disk of Final Fantasy 7, which is
00:16:57
Speaker
Is it good Andrew?
00:17:12
Speaker
Final Fantasy 7 you play you play one small section of the game and once you get past that
00:17:19
Speaker
you're in the open world. So we are now in Rebirth playing the open world section of Final Fantasy VII, the original. But what they've done is they've taken certain sections, cities, and towns you've hit in the original game, and they've expended them into these big, huge play spaces. And a lot of people were saying that it's not open world, but when you see the size of these areas you can play in, they're ridiculous. They're huge.
00:17:48
Speaker
Now, their approach to this, apparently the director was a big fan of Horizon, and this is actually one of my complaints, and this might be a good thing, this might be a bad thing for some players. It plays like an open world Ubisoft game. So, you unlock a tower, that tower starts putting pinpoints of key interests on the map, and you do set key interests.
00:18:16
Speaker
The problem with that is every time you get to a new region, it's the same thing. You hit a tower, blip, blip, blip, blip, blip, go do blip, blip, blip, blip. Now, the only difference is each blip, blip, blip is having different enemies and different activities, but they're not differentiating enough per region you go to.
00:18:38
Speaker
So you're getting that type of Ubisoft experience, Far Cry, where you're doing the same things in every region. But the only thing is you're getting that Final Fantasy RPG twist to it. You know what I'm saying? So for me being a fanboy,
00:18:55
Speaker
There's a payoff to doing said stuff, you know what I'm saying? They're giving you more lore and more insight on the world compared to what they were giving you in the original game. But like I said, if you're not a fan of that type of gameplay, like I said, towers, blip, blip, blip, do, do, do, new region, tower, blip, blip, blip.
00:19:17
Speaker
might not be your jam. Now, the other thing too is I wouldn't say these things are mandatory. You know what I'm saying? Like, you know, like you'll have your main quest marker. I'm pretty sure you can just do that. You don't have to do all this extra stuff. But if you're someone that's like me that's trying to soak up that world and get more insight, you're wanting to do that stuff. And a lot of those activities
00:19:42
Speaker
build your relationships with you and your characters. So you get a lot more quips and insight that you weren't getting from the original game by doing all this little extra stuff. So they kind of root more life into the characters. Oh, yeah. The regions, too, more and more on like the the government and like the world in general has been fleshed out a lot more with Donald Trump in the game. I have not seen him.
00:20:11
Speaker
I mean, you name your chocobo Donald Trump because they kind of have similar stuff. I don't think I've gone to there hasn't I've I've unlocked like three different chocobos now and there was never an option to name them. So. It's unfortunate I've seen the names going around with the dog on the chocobo. It's quite humorous. Oh.
00:20:31
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's ridiculous. So now where I want to go with this conversation is I do want to throw out some major cons to me. OK, cons is a con man. This game does this game does some stuff that like I can't stand in gaming. OK, like stuff like.
00:20:51
Speaker
Okay, so this is the best way to say this. So this elevator won't work. The reason this elevator won't work is because there's a contamination. So I have to slowly push around this giant vacuum and suck up all the contamination to get on the elevator. The problem with that is there's no problem solving in that. It's just me holding L2 and dragging this thing around and clearing the area.
00:21:19
Speaker
I don't like when I'm forced to do stuff that's just a waste of time. If you were to make it into like some sort of like puzzle like Uncharted or Tomb Raider where I actually have to think and figure out something, that's cool. Like another example is like you have to take a cloud and you have to turn a crank. So it's like press and hold L2, press and hold R2.
00:21:46
Speaker
That's one turn. Do it again. I'm like, really? Like, we couldn't make it where, like, you take the controller and be like, oh, that would be cool. No, it's just hold this and hold this for three seconds. One turn, hold this and hold this for three seconds. Two turns. I'm like, bro, seriously, you should you should send a letter to Square Enix and be like, hey, look, like, here's my suggestion, because that sounds cool. You're like, you know, you hold down a let go and it's like you're grabbing it like you're doing that.
00:22:16
Speaker
You know, it's a good idea. Like, don't get me wrong. There's mini games in this game all over the place. Creative, cool mini games. But I don't like doing stupid stuff like that. And make it into a puzzle.
00:22:31
Speaker
Let's go. Let's go. I'm currently playing Dead Island 2 and I had this exact same conversation with the person I'm playing. It was about two hours in. So I was like, it seems to me that when they made this game, they were like, you know what a core mechanic should be is this door doesn't work. You need to go find the battery and put it in the door.
00:22:50
Speaker
And like, all right, once that's, and once the door is opened, Oh no, there's fire everywhere. Don't worry. We put a million water barrels all over this entire map. Just go get a water barrel, come back and pour the infinite water barrel to put the fire out. It's like, why? So I can, so I, so this mission takes five minutes longer than it needs to. Yeah. You get a pad pad. Alties missions.
00:23:12
Speaker
So this has also been a complaint among some players, but some love it. There are sections of the original Final Fantasy VII that you'll complete in five minutes, or we'll even say 20 minutes. They've taken those sections and fleshed them out to like an hour. It's like they've taken a section and made it into a dungeon. Now, in a lot of people's minds, that's really cool.
00:23:34
Speaker
But because it's got that type of horizon element in it, you're doing these slow climbs. You know where they do the stupid yellow paint markers where you climb?
00:23:48
Speaker
in games, Uncharted, Horizon, stuff like that. Yeah, there's stupid parts like where you're climbing that takes absolutely no skill or button mashing, you're just holding up and you're climbing. So all they've done is they've taken these like, you know, whatever in the original Final Fantasy 7, you might go through like a cavern and that caverns 10 minutes, they've now flesh it out into this like,
00:24:10
Speaker
Dungeon that takes an hour but a lot of it might just be climbing or just fighting like stupid enemies that don't really like give you any challenge now what's cool is they've created like a boss at the end of that section a cool big boss that's like cinematic and stuff like that and you know, it brings you a new challenge, but I don't know some of these
00:24:32
Speaker
Some of the things that they've chosen to flesh out to me, they've done just to like make the game longer. But then there's other things that they've fleshed out that are more substantial. Like, you know, you might go to this town in the original Final Fantasy 7 and you might only be in this town for five minutes and it might only have three shops.
00:24:53
Speaker
But now it's like a full fledged town where you can interact with NPCs and get more lore and story surrounding that town and stuff like that. So there's positives and negatives to what they've decided to make something more fleshed out or bigger or longer.
00:25:12
Speaker
You know what I'm saying? Yeah. So I wonder like, yeah, God, the playtime to like your playtime is going to be ridiculous. I mean, like a hundred percent think it's going to be cool, but I've heard that compared to like the original. Time wise.
00:25:27
Speaker
Well, the original game, I think, because it's a traditional RPG, I think took around 50 to 60 hours. I heard to like 100% this game, this is something I have heard regarding time and length. I have heard it takes about 100 plus hours to 100% this game. The other thing that sucks too is I found out to Platinum it, you have to beat the game on hard and

Final Fantasy 16 vs 7 Rebirth

00:25:51
Speaker
Like I'm not saying the game's easy. I've had a few bosses that have been challenging and I haven't really had to grind. But like I could see where this game could get like really hard on hard mode. Yeah. But to go back to the positives, somehow they've made the game look better. Don't know how.
00:26:08
Speaker
The gameplay has gotten so much cooler because now you can do sync attacks with your fellow members and all that stuff. Like I said, in the positive direction, they've made these little towns into these full fleshed out towns where people are conversating and there's new NPCs and stuff like that.
00:26:24
Speaker
And I think it's it's been a very smart choice on what they've decided were key points to the original Final Fantasy 7 and have chosen those as the key locations you go to. And the choices to flesh those out have been really, really cool. So that's good. Well, I stay on Final Fantasy. I've been playing Final Fantasy 16, the superior game. I still want to play the superior.
00:26:55
Speaker
Let me ask you this. How does Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth run graphics mode wise? Graphics versus performance mode or whatever? I only play performance. And how is that running? I have a 4K TV, I have a PS5, I have this brand new Final Fantasy 7 game.
00:27:15
Speaker
I'm such a stickler for 60 FPS that I cannot play. I don't want to play any modern game in 30 FPS, even though I am curious to see how good those graphics look. I have to play 60 FPS. Is it a steady 60?
00:27:31
Speaker
Yes, I encountered my first section yesterday. There's a section of the game where you're basically you're on a rail, like a rail car, and you're just shooting stuff as it goes, that type of experience. Yeah.
00:27:46
Speaker
That's the only time for some reason. It was like the frame rate wasn't 60, but the rest of the game, like, uh, like fighting like five enemies at the same time. And I have like five characters doing stuff that PS5 is holding up real well. Well, let me ruin your life then. So I've been playing Final Fantasy 16. I've been playing it for a while. It's really good.
00:28:14
Speaker
The game's really good, story's really good. Man, I'm getting annoyed about just not great at runs. Really? Yeah, so I'm on performance mode, which means when you are in battle, when you are actively battling, that's what I do when I battle. What is that? I'm sorry, I missed that. What is that? That's my sword right there.
00:28:38
Speaker
When you are actively like in a battle fighting things, it's a smooth 60. Everything else is probably closer to 40. It's probably in between 40 and 60, but just like constantly. But do you think battling and cut scenes? Great. But running around the world, which is what you do most of the game. Just not in between 40 and 60, probably closer to 40 most of the time.
00:29:06
Speaker
OK, so how does the how does the. It's not open world, right? It's kind of like seven where it's like it's like sections, like large sections you can not really. It's very linear story. But there are like there's side quests, which I've done. Ten percent of maybe before I was like, OK, I'm not I'm just going to play the story because it's like
00:29:34
Speaker
Oh no, my husband, he left and I don't know, he's been gone for too long. Go, please go find him. And then you go and you kill some scorpions and then you come back and you're like your husband's dead. And she's like, Oh, well thank you for finding him. And then that's like all the cyclists. Hey, it's called closure, man. When you're like, when you're like running, they have like a little green side quest on the boat and you like run past him and you hear them go like, Oh, Sarah, can you help me find my son? It's like, no, no, I'm not going to.
00:30:05
Speaker
I'm just doing the story stuff now, but yeah, it's, uh, it's really good. And man, there's a lot, I don't know about how final fantasy seven or rebirth is, but there's so many cut scenes, which I love. Like we talked about final fantasy 16 last year, where I was like, when, when it came out, all the people that were saying the negatives of it were all positives for me. It was like, there's just a lot of cut scenes. There's cuts like,
00:30:30
Speaker
That's what makes a fantasy cut scene like like a movie and then like every once in a while you'll battle and then you play the rest of the movie. So one of my favorite parts about playing like the old Final Fantasy games was the cut scenes because the graphics were just out of this world ahead of its time. And that's what I liked about
00:30:48
Speaker
Which one was it? Was it 10 or 10-2? One of those Final Fantasy games finally had a theater where you can go back and watch the cuts. I think 10 had it way later towards the end of the game where you can go back and just watch the cutscenes. The old Final Fantasy games like 10 and stuff, it's similar to 16 where it's like, there's a lot of cutscenes. But then every once in a while, it would go into a cutscene and you're like,
00:31:13
Speaker
This is like fully rendered, like, let's make this cutscene look better for a reason, you know? And you're like, okay, something good's gonna happen. Yeah. You start seeing the hair going, I'm like, oh, here we go. Not an in-game cutscene, this is a cutscene cutscene. I've also heard in 16, they put all their budget into like the big summon fights, but then like the rest of the game looks okay. Is that true?
00:31:42
Speaker
uh i wouldn't say that i would say um i mean i'm halfway or i would say at least almost halfway through the game which is probably like 20 hours or so because i've done a little exploring 2025 something like that hmm and there's been
00:32:03
Speaker
Um, two and a half summon battles. And there's been some boss fights that weren't some in battles. So maybe there's more of the second half of the game, but I haven't felt like. All I'm doing when I get to big boss battles, it's just like big, crazy summon battles, but, um, they're awesome. So it wouldn't matter. All the boss battles are awesome, but the gameplay in and of itself, I haven't played a.
00:32:30
Speaker
a super actiony, like hack and slashy type game like this in a long time, unless you want to count like Spider-Man, which I don't. Yeah. Yeah. Cause Spider-Man is just like, you know, you can press a bunch of buttons, but this is more like, as soon as similar to how we play destiny, like as soon as a freaking ability is ready to go and popping it.
00:32:52
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm just, I'm just waiting for that last little sliver to pop it and then I'm doing my rounds. Um, but no, I liked, I liked the battling. The story is the, by far the best part, the characters are by far the best part of this game. It's definitely a, well, a more put together story than most final fantasy. Where does it rank on your final fantasies?
00:33:18
Speaker
So I tend to like the more fantasy side games of the Final Fantasy stuff. Let's intend to really not care that much about what Final Fantasy actually is, which is just like, you know, hot topic fantasy. So like I like twelve a lot. Anything with all the all the lightning games, because it's more, you know, you got cat people walking around. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:33:47
Speaker
But this is by far the most fantasy because it is the Final Fantasy 14 team that made this. Yeah. Yeah. Or at least a lot of them or whatever. So it's got all those same vibes of like.
00:33:59
Speaker
typical like Game of Thrones fantasy stuff going on. Like a lot of politics happening behind the scenes. You'll kill somebody and you don't think it's that big of a deal. And then you'll sit, it'll say like, meanwhile, and it would be this person that just found out who died and now they're pissed. And then it cuts to this other place over here when they're doing their own things. It's all these things happening at one time, but it makes sense. And it also has the thing that Amazon prime video has where you can
00:34:26
Speaker
I could pause at any cutscene. That's what I was going to ask about. Yeah. And you can go and read about all the characters or like if they they'll talk about a certain war or a battle that happened in the past and it'll have like the name of the battle and what happened and everything like that. That's really cool. That is really cool. It's nice. So what's funny is you just said something that was kind of like kind of triggered my brain. Triggered. Well, no, it's it's kind of like it's kind of like
00:34:51
Speaker
They originally like the other final fantasy games. They were always trying to do their own thing But it seems like with 16 and now the seven remake They're they're saying screw it and they they're taking influences from what works So yeah with the creation of 16 they were they bluntly said we were inspired by game of thrones and you can see that yeah the director of the the of like remake and then rebirth now they bluntly said
00:35:20
Speaker
Oh, I love Horizon. We're making an open world game. Yeah. The side quests, the side quests in this game are way better than remake. They bluntly said they were inspired by The Witcher 3 straight up. So like they there's no longer like, you know, we're going to like live in our own little bubble and try to be creative and do our own thing. They said, no, screw it.
00:35:45
Speaker
We're making open world game. We've seen what people like. We're going to take that influence and put in our game. And I think it's cool that they were like straight out transparent about that instead of, yeah, it's not like we're ripping it off. We're, we're, we're taking something that's that works and we're going to put our own spin on it. And like, like I just said, yeah, like I said, the, the side quests in a rebirth are like way better than remake. And I think that's awesome that they're just like, yeah, you know, we can do better.
00:36:12
Speaker
And if we if we need to take inspiration from somewhere, then let's do it.

Destiny 2: State & Future Patches

00:36:16
Speaker
So. And I don't want to. I mean, I agree. And I hope they keep going this way because like I would love more games like this that are influenced by their stuff. For example, Crap on Starfield a little bit. But that was the problem when that game came out, we're like.
00:36:30
Speaker
people that loved it, loved it, and people that hated it, hated it all for the same reason, where it felt like a Bethesda game from 2009. So it's like, great, but you know, it's going to be tough to sway the newer, younger generation of people that are playing it. But yeah, I like it a lot. It's super good. And it is definitely Game of Thrones meets like an anime because it's like all the cutscenes are very Game of Thrones and you'll get into these battles where you're just like,
00:36:59
Speaker
And some of these like, some of these bosses are like, did this come out of freaking from software game? Cause this doesn't make any sense. Like it doesn't look like a final fantasy.
00:37:09
Speaker
freaking, you know, summon or whatever. Like this looks creepy and I'm a little scared. That's one thing I liked about Final Fantasy though is especially like the artwork that they always did of like the characters and the summons and everything. It's so stylized where like you can see it, you know, that's Final Fantasy. So I like how each game the summons look different too. They always make a point to do that.
00:37:33
Speaker
Yeah. It's like the little things or even just like the, you know, how the title would have like a cute, like little picture inside of it. Kind of like what's going on. That's really cool. So they've always used the same, um, concept artists basically throughout all of them, especially for like, even the, the, uh, like you said, the logo, they've always used the same artists and stuff like that. And just like looking through the strategy guide or any posters that they made, the artwork is always really good.
00:38:00
Speaker
Something I thought we jumped on was, uh, I meant to ask, did either of you play remake? I played the demo. I've not. Okay. And then I was like, I just never got to it. But now it's, I think it's on like, uh, I think it's either on PS plus I either got it on PS plus one time, or maybe it's on like their game catalog thing. Okay. So I thought about going back and playing it before, but no, I have not.
00:38:28
Speaker
uh carlos what you've been playing big dog um i've been playing a lot of destiny yep nice here's i saw his eyes he's waiting for but he's still cracking that whip
00:38:48
Speaker
I'm still playing. I started Baldur's Gate Save, my very adult nudie mod plus setup plus game additions. It's been good, but I have fallen back into destiny.
00:39:08
Speaker
And, you know, it's not necessarily that anything exciting was going on. The seasons find the activities, you know, I like what they did with the activity this season. But I decided I'm going to just play warlock. I'm going to try to play. He's made us proud, man. I've been getting a warlock for like two and a half going on three weeks now. And I've got four builds. I'm working on them. It's been fun.
00:39:32
Speaker
uh kind of refreshing i'll probably do the same for titan just to catch them all up and just be more acclimated with something other than a hunter um so it's it's it's kind of kept me back into the game but then you know uh the guardian games
00:39:49
Speaker
happened yesterday, Tuesday, and we have hoverboards now. And that seems to be the best takeaway from Guardian Games is we have the hoverboards. And I was reading through the, the twab, twid, whatever they want to call it. And yesterday, when we were doing the GM and I was trying to figure out, oh, no, when we were doing prophecy and I was trying to figure out how to like,
00:40:19
Speaker
Yeah. So there is a bug right now where the toggle to crouch works for the grinding, but the hold the crouch button does not configuration. So I couldn't get the grinding to work because I use a hold the crouch.
00:40:37
Speaker
OK, so that action is legit. It's not like the player base figured out something like. No, it's it tells you in the instructions like how like when you get the vehicle, it shows you like hold control to grind and shift to do the flips. But yeah, you have to the grind only works with a toggle crouch for whatever reason.
00:40:56
Speaker
So the thing is they they have legitly made something where we can skip entire sections of a dungeon, a.k.a. they're allowing us to have fun, legit. Well, that's a first for for now. That's a first. I know I can definitely see them setting timers in because I think the video you showed me where the guy went all the way across that one part in prophecy, he had to like resummon it a couple of times. Yeah, yeah.
00:41:26
Speaker
So I can see them definitely doing some sort of fix with that. I mean, it'll be if it was something that of substance that mattered, they'll probably do what they did when Crota came out, which was when people were, you know, zipping over, which is just like, no, you have to have at least this many people do this thing or just go. Well, that's how it is with the the HyperNet GM is that
00:41:51
Speaker
you can immediately go right and just cut and just bypass everything and immediately get there. But one person has to go through the entire encounter on the Sparrow. There you go. I didn't know that. Yeah. Good to get into that. I was watching Cross's video on it and he was talking about it. And I was like, oh, well, that's good to know.
00:42:11
Speaker
So, yeah, you know, just been been playing that. I still have a lot of the seasonal stuff to do, I just. Yeah, you know, it's the story is it's fine. It's just it's continuing to be drawn out, but. You know, it is what it is. My problem right now with Destiny is that what June, beginning of June is when Final Shapes is supposed to come out.
00:42:37
Speaker
And I'd want to refresh my builds and, or. Oh, it's a must.
00:42:44
Speaker
or do some other ones, but I'm, we're still so far away from the final shape. There's still so many like patches that can happen between now and then it's like, do I really want to like refresh all my builds or and make new ones and stuff like that. And then just for like a month or two weeks for the final shape for them to do some patches, like murders them all or some of them. And then I have to do it all over again anyway. So I'm just kind of like staying true to the bills that I have.
00:43:09
Speaker
The recent patch we did was a big one that had a whole bunch of fixes and stuff that made certain weapons viable again. But yeah, I mean, I haven't hate played it though. I've actually enjoyed just because it's refreshing playing a different class for once. Did you say hate play?
00:43:32
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. You don't ever play. Yeah. Really? Yeah. That's what happens. It has to be a positive experience. Then what was then what was lightfall? The lightfall. I didn't hate that. That's like staying in a toxic relationship. Hate play.
00:43:51
Speaker
Now he's seeing it, now he's finally seeing Destiny for what it is. But no, I plan on getting on the Helldivers whole thing. I've got so many people that have been talking about wanting to play and everyone else wants to play. They just nerfed the best loadout, apparently. Well, there will be another one to replace it.
00:44:12
Speaker
Yeah. So, yeah, I'll probably jump on some hull divers. I mean, I've been looking forward to it like the trailer alone sold me. I mean, yeah, a great starship troopers satire of a satire.
00:44:27
Speaker
Um, so that I, I honestly haven't been playing games as much. I've kind of been trying to play some games, but I've been like, hang out with the wife. I've been, uh, I've been trying to like read books, do some crafting, like other things. That's cute. Yeah. Well, you know, I, I got, I got this 3d printer, man. I got to put it to use a hundred percent. So yeah, one hundo.
00:44:56
Speaker
But it was fun. Like we ran like when we were in the GM's, man, like, yeah, you sent me that message. I'm like, OK, yeah, he's he's thinking about it. Bro, I played like three years and that was easy. Yeah, it was only because of my sparrow that first run. It was a very easy GM for sure. But. Yeah, so I'm definitely, you know, we're trying to get that six because because the final shape supposed to be out now.
00:45:26
Speaker
We're supposed to be playing it right now. Yeah. So mine and some friends of mine that y'all have raided with in the past plan was like, okay, like a month before Final Shape comes out, we still haven't done a lot of the raids. Sleep talking month. Yeah. We wanted to start with
00:45:47
Speaker
raid number one that's available and just play all of them leading into the final shape. How many people have done the three? It's three. Um, so that's part of the problem was initially we were like, this was maybe like whenever they delayed it to June. So we got us to December, December or something like that.
00:46:08
Speaker
Um, we were like, okay, well in January, it'll be me. And then the other guy's name is Monroe that y'all played with. And we also have a guy named Colby. And then we had, we had one, maybe two other people that were just going to start. We were going to, we, they had agreed to like start playing the game in general. We'll play through all the crap with them too. Then we'll do all the raids.
00:46:30
Speaker
and you know if there's any certain weapons we want we'll redo them or grind if we need to or whatever but we'll at least have it all done before the final shape happens and then it got delayed till June and everybody just like was like you know screw it we'll just wait or we won't do it so now it's like well i'm we're still in a like it's with the builds and stuff like that it's like they're supposed to have something in April they said right
00:46:56
Speaker
What? Some sort of content drop of some kind in April. Oh wait, when do they start that new thing? The new... What were they calling it?
00:47:07
Speaker
What? The new cluster of content coming at once. What's that called? What were they calling them? The episodes? Yeah. When does that start? That's after Final Shape. That's after. Gotcha. Gotcha. So a lot of the stuff that was in this latest patch, I say a lot of some of the stuff that was in this latest patch was supposed to be for episode one. But all that got pushed. But I guess this other stuff was already done. So. And you're saying something else was announced for April?
00:47:34
Speaker
I thought so, let me see. I know that there's supposed to be a new weapon that's supposed to be coming in a couple of weeks. I don't know if that's supposed to be tied. It's not an exotic. Destiny 2 Into the Light content is what it is called. Oh, is that not the introduction for vanilla players? The new revamped introduction? I think it's supposed to be something else. Involved.
00:48:02
Speaker
I don't know I'm surprised I haven't heard of it.
00:48:06
Speaker
into the light. No, I'll definitely be back on the grind. It's not going to be forced hate, but it's going to be forced play. And like I said, I've gotten the bug. Thanks, the raffle here last night. But yeah, no, getting closer to that release, I will do some force play and kinky, revamp the builds, God rolls, et cetera, et cetera, to be ready for June. So.
00:48:33
Speaker
so from dicks there weapons calm The final art into the light They call it a mini expansion. I don't know if that's just this website that's calling it that but okay. It's not really that To hold players over until the June release Potential leaks for into the light have pointed at a return of fan favorite weapons meaning we may see them reissued and
00:48:59
Speaker
Oh, that's what the leak was, because there were ornaments that were leaked to be in the Eververse store that people were like, hey, they're going to be bringing some guns back. So a rumor I heard was the Black Armory stuff was coming back, which was a seasonal thing that I liked personally. That range of weapons was super sick. If those weapons are coming back, that's exciting.
00:49:25
Speaker
I mean, I would love for them to just Unsunset all the raids that have been sunsetted Which is what how many is that? Just the one it's all the content. Why not? Just some sense. Yeah, and they'd like in the campaigns Because like Carlos have you played a life list? Or was that that's the one that's still sunsetted that they haven't said Like I would love to not only do all the raids but to just play
00:49:55
Speaker
All the campaigns from front to back. Oh, I would love that so much. Are you like a new game plus? You could take your current business through there. That'd be sick. Just add legendary to all the old, old campaigns. Dude, that right there is gold. I would love to play just so I can finally play the Destiny game. You know, I feel like I've been playing half a game since I've started like
00:50:19
Speaker
Yeah, you had to be there. I had to. Yeah, I had to pay there. No, what you just said, I think is the most brilliant thing in the world. And I would play all of those again if there was a legendary version of the campaign. Yeah, I would be right there with you, man. That'd be so sick.
00:50:40
Speaker
Oh, well, we'll see. Do it. Or it's three months away from the final shape. So I'm trying not to play like too much to the point where I burn myself out before the final shape. So like I'm you know, I'm having one. I do realize I'm not having fun. I'll get back off of it. And yeah, I mean, plus I'm I'm going to be playing hell divers. I'm sure so I will be. I mean, they bungee made it easy, but I'm a similar boat where it's like, yeah, I'm
00:51:10
Speaker
Like we're having halfway through the seasonal stuff. So like I can take, I've just been taking my sweet time through all this and it's like, Oh, there's event. I'll hop back on like the event. It's a good old time. Yeah. And then slowly beat the seasonal content, do all the raids, do some builds, call it. But any final thoughts? Yeah. I was actually going to, I was going to actually give you guys a quick question to end this out.

Future Games & Destiny Speculations

00:51:36
Speaker
Is there any games coming up between now?
00:51:39
Speaker
And when Destiny drops, that you guys are excited for. One. Maybe, maybe two. May 16th. Is that before? Oh, shoot. That's right.
00:51:51
Speaker
man. Oh man. I'm excited because I'll finally get to Raid and go to Tsushima. There's a raid in there people. There's a raid in there people. I'm excited because that predictions confirmed so I can check that one off my list. Check it off. I don't remember what the others were. I looked last night to see if there's any games that I even want to come out this year.
00:52:18
Speaker
And Hellblade 2 comes out in May. I know I wanna play that game. And then I wanna play X Defiant if and when it ever comes out. Okay. That's it. The top of my list right now, my most hyped game, I think it's next month, is No Rest for the Wicked, which is from the people that made Ori and the Willow of the Wisps, that team. It's their first ARPG. The art style of that game,
00:52:48
Speaker
Blue's mind. I've seen a bunch of like streamers and YouTubers that have gotten to play like a trial of it pre pre trial of it. What's so sick? No rest for the wicked. No rest for the day before.
00:53:03
Speaker
It's gonna be early access. It comes out next month. I mean, like I said, it's from the Ori team. So you think about this team that has made this beautiful side-scrolling game is now tackling an ARPG. It looks so freaking good.
00:53:22
Speaker
I'm interested when Sea Thieves comes to PlayStation. Obviously, I don't have to buy it or really need to because I have it on Xbox already. But I have significantly more friends on PlayStation than I do on Xbox. So if they were to all get it or some of them get it, I definitely would get it again.
00:53:44
Speaker
I mean, it's on Game Pass, so. Oh, and I wonder if it'll work with Steam cross play. Yeah, I mean, I don't know. Well, yeah, I think it should because you sign in onto your Microsoft account. Like, I think they still treat it as like an Xbox. Got you. Hmm.
00:54:05
Speaker
Um Yeah, I mean hellblade and that's it. I'm extra fine. It's in a weird spot. It's such a weird Game because like it was supposed to come out last summer And then they had the beta Close beta and then they had like an open beta in the fall And I played the open beta with friends in it
00:54:25
Speaker
was fun. And it was like, to me, it was fairly well polished. Like, yeah, they have to balance some things out. But what game in this like doesn't need to have some balance or whatever? Is this a hero shooter? Like, what is this? I remember talking about this a while ago. Yeah, it's like it's a bunch of people that broke off from Call of Duty and form this studio within Ubisoft specifically to compete against Call of Duty. Like, this is a Call of Duty competitor. They've said it themselves.
00:54:54
Speaker
So when it comes to gunplay, that's what it feels like. It feels like Call of Duty. But there's different factions. And so it's kind of like a mixture between Call of Duty and a hero shooter. So depending on your faction, your character, you'll have an ult or an ability that only you can do that charges up. But generally, usually, at least for the beta, if you're really, really good, you could get it twice. But normal people would get it once per match. So you kind of have to make it count.
00:55:22
Speaker
And depending on what character you are, you know, whatever. Gotcha. And so what I did in the beta was I don't know if it's by faction or by character or what, but like I had like a self heal thing that my guy would like plop out for people. Some people, you know, like a shield, some people like just marks everybody on the map. I think the Splinter Cell guy was like,
00:55:44
Speaker
It marks all the enemies in red. And then you whip out like a special pistol that you only have for your like ultimate. And it's like a one hit kill for like, for like 15 seconds or however. So does this feel more apex than. Like it feel it's like, it's like 75% call of duty, 25% like overwatch apex.
00:56:08
Speaker
Okay, okay. But for the most part, it's just call duty, but there's a little, little, little twist in there, but it was super fun. And then it got delayed and it was supposed to come out like in December sometime and then it got delayed again. And now it's like, there's all these things that are leaking out. Like they, uh, they had an update on the PS5 that changed it from X to find beta to just X to find it.
00:56:31
Speaker
and then the like microtransaction coins came up a lot of like the Ubisoft like in-game rewards stuff popped up
00:56:45
Speaker
Um, there's servers that are online now, um, for certain builds or whatever. So like everything's like, was like ramping up to like, Oh yeah, this is obviously getting close to release. And then we had some people tweet out there, like, like credible sources. They're like, yeah, this game's not canned, but it's not in a good spot. And so now I have no idea what the thing, hopefully those people were wrong. So I'm going to say, oof, but, uh, there was the, and like the Ubisoft.
00:57:15
Speaker
Earnings call of some sorts. There was like, it said like they had two things that we're going to release before the end of the fiscal year, which would, which the end of that is March 31st and extra fine. It was one of them, but then it's supposedly it got delayed after that. So I don't know what's happening. Be honest with you. Sorry to hear, man.
00:57:34
Speaker
It's a disaster over there. That's what the weirdest part was that we played the beta in September and it would. It ran smoothly in the game played fine. It's like, yeah, you need to balance some guns. Big whoop you do. I wonder like if it's not just the gameplay itself, maybe there's like some logistics that are holding it back like behind the scene. I know. I know one of the reasons it got delayed is because they wanted to update their party system. And they wanted it to be like
00:58:03
Speaker
like completely functional with no issues before release. But he the like one of the game developers or the people like get the developer that gives the updates on Twitter. He said that that was like good to go in like the beginning of January. So.
00:58:19
Speaker
I don't know. I think the team has been fighting the higher ups. Yeah. Saying no microtransactions and the higher ups are like no microtransactions. And it's just been like this for six months. That's why. What they have said told the communities in their little post was that it is a free to play game. So we are going to have microtransactions. But I forget the exact wording of what they
00:58:43

What they said. If it's all cosmetic. But it was something it was something like we're not going to be hunting for your money, but there are microgens. Get your bucks ready. Your Ubisoft bucks.

Yeah. I mean, it's all going to be the thing. There's no pay to win stuff. It's all skins and all that kind of crap. But even with that, they're like, because someone asked on Twitter, like, is it going to be like Apex or skins are going to be like $20? And he said, we're not going to be hunting for your money. Like a lot of live service games, but we will have microtransactions. So I don't know if that means it's going to be no job. Anybody, if a skin costs $20 and you're paying for it, like.

I think you're an idiot, but teach, teach their own, teach their own. How many people have spent over 10 or $15 on Destiny skins in this group right now? I haven't. $10. I haven't, I've never bought silver in the game. When I buy silver, I do, I buy like 10 bucks. I thought you bought, what about like the Fortnite event stuff, like, or the ghost, you didn't get any of the ghost of Sushi and stuff? So, we had a friend of ours, he bought me the, the warlock Kitsune- Oh, that counts.

I've never bought silver in that game. I've been playing since beta, never bought silver. Wait, no, no, no, no. I feel like you've bought silver once. I feel like there was time you definitely had. When I got for, I think it was Forsaken, they gave you like 2,000 silver. If you got, if you pre-ordered Forsaken. That's the only time that I've gotten silver as well. Yeah, I've never bought silver. I knew there was something that like, we either got silver for free or we've never bought silver. That's the only time I've gotten silver.

I'm hoarding some brightness. I'm ready to be proven wrong, but I've never bought silver. I have bought all the deluxe editions that come with the seasonal passes and all that stuff, but I've never gone to that store and bought silver. Same. So when all these really cool Ghost of Tsushima and Fortnite collaboration, I just look at it and I go, that looks cool. Yeah, I want the Tsushima thing. One question.
01:00:46
Speaker
Do you plan on getting the deluxe edition of Final Shape? You know what scares me is I literally thought about that in the last two weeks. No joke. And it's scary that you brought that exact question up because even I was like,
01:01:08
Speaker
Because the interesting thing about this, right, is you're still going to be getting the seasons, right? They're still doing seasons, right? But they're just having episodes. I think episodes are taking over. I'm going to be real with you, Carlos. I think because I've been doing it for so long, I'm just going to continue what I've been doing. I think I'm going to just get the mega bundle
01:01:37
Speaker
And if I play, I play, I don't. I think, I mean, if I'm paying for, I will play it for sure. I'm just waiting closer and closer and closer to release before I actually decide to do it. Yeah, that CD keys bonus, you know, our discount, you know what I'm saying? It's just, it feels better than to like pre-order it so early ahead of time. And then it's like, I feel worse. Well, you can cancel it, right? If you pre-order it. I don't know.
01:02:06
Speaker
A lot of people are getting, there was a cross put out a video about the comparisons between the light bulb preorders to this one and it's night and day. It's bad. It's a huge drop. Yeah. I saw.
01:02:21
Speaker
Yeah, I'm the same way. I'm probably going to get it, but I'm waiting closer and closer. I feel like they're going to do like another stream that's just like, all right, this is the final shape. Now you can. Yeah, they have to have a good dog. And then I'm going to be drinking the milk. See, and I think a lot of people are doing the same thing. That's why their pre-orders are so low. Everyone's holding their breath and waiting till it's like.
01:02:43
Speaker
I mean, if the hardcore of hardcore players like us are waiting, everyone's waiting. That says a lot. Yeah. So we'll see. They're going to have to do. I would bet you heard it here first if it happens, and if it didn't, you didn't listen to this podcast anyway. I would bet if it's the same as last year, that PlayStation does like their showcase in May and we get a pretty beefy Final Shape trailer then, which at the end of it's like, we're going to be showing off more Final Shape stuff next week or whatever.
01:03:13

Well, no, doesn't doesn't bungee usually do a vi doc per expansion? They do a vi doc, but also now they're owned by Sony. I could see Sony. Oh, that's true. That's true. That's true. Well, maybe they do like a big thing at the showcase and then at the end of the spiel, they're like, the vi doc is live after this stream. OK, you know, the one where they have like the staff on hand and they talk about developing in the the new moves and the new blah, blah, blah. Yeah. Yeah. So that's yeah.
01:03:42
