Cinematic Album Review

00:00:39
Speaker
there. The foot traffic is picked up definitely in the last week or two. Yep. Have you heard this album yet? I did. I listened to it like 75% of the time today. I listened to it twice this morning. Pretty good. Pretty damn good. If I were to say, if one word, it's cinematic. Very cinematic.
00:01:04
Speaker
And it's also taking steps back on the stuff that we complain about a lot with him doing those weird punch lines and... A lot of the songs sound like Encore 2004 level M&M. Back to that time period.

Nostalgic Movie Analysis

00:01:20
Speaker
my midsts but Great album, Death of Slim Shady. on It's on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, if you have all that. The song is called Habits. the recent opening of the Opening of the album. would you say Toby, great song. The whole entire album, I love it.
00:01:39
Speaker
but ah Let's get into the show this week.
00:01:49
Speaker
Did you watch, you watched Axle left too, so we're we're right on the schedule. We're going to do a little revisit to that because I did watch it last week and you watched it after the podcast. What are your thoughts ah on that movie after you saw it? I enjoyed it. Very enjoyable. Yeah, it's just just so old, but you really can't help that. So yeah, should have been done a long, long time ago. I think I said that last week, I think it's about 10 or 15 years too late. I think it would have been great in the in the mid 2000s. But nostalgia wise, it was great. Hit hit the notes on that. Eddie Murphy.
00:02:30
Speaker
um I like that type of Eddie Murphy. I don't like the other type, the corny shit that happened like in the late 90s, early 2000s, where he was doing those a lot of those weird movies yeah that were not that good. Like Bofinger, I can't remember those movies. but i never I never liked that stuff either. the yeah Was that the one with Steve Martin in it? Yeah, that one. yeah and And then there was Metro. There's a whole bunch of bunch of weird ones he did around that time. And then of course he did the kids movies too.

Character Analysis in 'The Bear'

00:03:00
Speaker
Yeah, that's great. That's on Netflix, but we're gonna talk about the bear season 3 episode 6 and 10 You finally caught up so we can talk about it only everything about that episode we start off with episode 6 Which is probably to me? One of the better episodes of the whole entire series as far as flashbacks, as far as filling in story points of the story we've been wondering from the very beginning about Tina. Tina is a cook that's been on the show since season one that worked in the beef shop. We finally they find out how she worked there, how she got her job with um with Carmen's brother.
00:03:36
Speaker
um And the whole entire story with her you see her husband was played by Batista from Dexter Yeah, um this was directed by the same the actress ao, whatever her name is um But the episode played off perfectly and John Baron thought coming back as a cameo perfect timing on this um Hires her because she can't find a job in Chicago um And also seeing Neil, Mikey, and Richie all interact at the beef shop in its prime before Carmen comes in and takes it over before before Mikey kills himself. It's it's just it's just awesome. um And that was a great episode. Episode 7. We start to see Sydney getting an offer from another restaurant that's closing. This head chef is opening another restaurant.
00:04:19
Speaker
um And the offer is almost too much that she cannot pass it up and the rest of the season kind of plays off to the fact that um Is she going to take the offer issue? How is she gonna tell Carmen like she kind of has to take the offer? I think it was like $80,000 a year plus benefits is like you can't Um, and that's also the episode that has a matter of fact supply Chicago land shirt. Yes. Awesome. Um, episode eight is all about sugar being in labor. Jamie Lee Curtis returns to help her. Um, she gets stuck in traffic and they have to go to the hospital alone. This is pretty basically just them to the whole entire episode.
00:04:52
Speaker
ah Episode 9 Carmen and Sydney are still kind of having been having this not feud but tension throughout the whole entire season um and sitting this is all about Sydney still trying to figure out how to tell him that she wants to leave. And episode 10 is a restaurant that closed is having a funeral. It's the one that's run by Olivia Coleman. yeah um And that that that restaurant restaurant is closing. So there's a whole bunch of famous chefs Plus there's some cameos in there. Will Poulter comes back um Carmen goes there brings Sidney with him um And he also has a head-to-head confrontation with Joe McHale who from the very beginning has been his kind of and nemesis that taught him some some aspects of this kitchen that really did a number on him made him very anxious and Kind of the shortest psyche to get him to the point where he is like the chef that he is now yeahp Also at the very end of this episode Sydney hasn't been told break too because she hasn't told Carmen yet leaves it a big-ass cliffhanger and there's a review going on for this restaurant that Carmen has and It's been hinted to throughout the season that there's somebody coming in gonna do an interview You're gonna take pictures of the restaurant and by the end of the by end of this episode He gets a text message
00:06:11
Speaker
and a notification from this newspaper that the article had been released but we don't know what it was and he says oh fuck and then it just ends with a cliffhanger so we already know this is picked up for next season so this will probably pick up right where that left off also we also know that his uncle is his uncle played by uh what's his name that gives him the money to run the restaurant all the pla oh yeah but yeah Yeah, he's also having having money problems and Carmen is the one of the reasons for that. Plus he's plus he's a I think he's a bad gambler and that's what they hinted to. But yeah, great show. It's on Hulu. It's on FX too, but it's all all on Hulu, all the episodes if you want to watch that.

Dexter Season 5 Recap and Season 6 Preview

00:06:51
Speaker
um Also,
00:06:58
Speaker
oh yeah that yeah I got some downtime this week so I got back into Dexter finished season five got halfway through season six and we'll talk about that season five Julia Stiles Right in the right in the 99 2000 era. She was huge in the movies back then came in as kind of the Love interest towards the end of that season but more more so a person the Dexter has to help because she she has been abused and
00:07:30
Speaker
This whole entire story through Season 5, I really, really did like. I like how it ended. It did, and it sucks. I really did want to see her more with Dexter, but it's kind of the end of their story. It makes sense why it ended there. um the other The other part of this season that's great. Is robocop, Peter Weller. It's kind of like the asshole villain cop that's and chasing after Dexter. Finds out that he's doing some shady shit. And Dexter is killing him. too Quinn wants him to look into him and he's like, I'm not going to pay you to look into him anymore.
00:08:05
Speaker
And then he's like well, fuck you. I'm gonna break this case myself. Yeah, and he does and he does and finds out that he's in the shady shit He's dumping something in the water. Not really sure what it is. He starts and he starts to bug their his Dexter's house finds out they're doing weird stabbing motions like ritual stuff trying to figure out how to stab things so he's like Yeah, this guy's a fucking murderer. So he confronts him and then Dexter has to kill him um But this season has the funniest mazooka scene ever and i think i sent you the gift that i so i found but
00:08:40
Speaker
I can't explain it on on here but it's just funny that if you have not seen Dexter I've gotten through season six so far up to season five is it was great um and this also season five kind of was after everything happened with Rita can Dexter be a good father um and that's kind of the whole entire thing of that can he do this all on his own can he be season four did the same thing can he be a normal law not lawiding but abiding citizen
00:09:11
Speaker
and and take care of his family and of course the kids also leave too and up going to orlando cody and asked her so um um That's what um I wanted to say. That's one of my favorite episodes is when Astor comes back. I think it's called Teenage Wasteland. it is so That's a very, very good episode. It's kind of like the show's kind of version of a bottle episode, where nothing really else happens. But um yeah I really enjoyed that episode. It was good to see Astrobak. It and out throughout this.

Critical Review of Acolyte Episode 7

00:09:40
Speaker
They pop in a few times more, I believe, if I remember correctly.
00:09:43
Speaker
Yeah. um And season six. So I got through the first half of that today. And Colin Hanks, Edward James almost, are the villains. Find out pretty early in the season, very early in the first episode. um And the police, the police are calling them the Doomsday Killers because they're doing murders through the Book of Revelations from the Bible. Yes. um Also this season resets a lot of the relationships where Bautista and LaGuardia were married. Now they're divorced. yeah um quinn and aunt Quinn and Deb are broken up by the third episode. Quinn starts sleeping around. Mike. I love Mike. I love Mike. And another huge another huge guest star, Mos Def, comes in as Brother Sam. Jess died in the episode I just watched um and definitely killed the guy who killed him. ye
00:10:30
Speaker
um And one of the great lines of that, he says, I'm an OG for GOD. Know what I mean? And Dexter says, nope. I thought that line was great. I understand. I mean, because he's just socio-pass, so stuff like that would just go right over his head. Go right over his head, yeah. But yeah, the show's great. Halfway through season six. I'm not sure. I probably will finish it this weekend. I don't know. But I got a lot of other stuff to watch. um Let's get into the Acolyte, Episode 7. We've been talking about how Episode 5 was the... yeah Episode 5 was the greatest part of this show. And ever since then, we've been going downhill. Like, up the hill. Climax was Episode 5. Down the hill. Even further by Episode 7, where... What the fuck was this episode?
00:11:23
Speaker
Flashback 16 years at before. um The only thing that this brings up is there's what they call aversions. Is where they use the force or something to create life. The other thing that they bring up there was a big huge hyperspace explosion that happened on this planet. Didn't get into it much, but I guess it's in the books and stuff they did did for this High Republic shit a few years ago. um But we also see what happened. The thing about this episode, it was basically a fill in the blanks from episode three, where they took scenes that they already showed you in episode three and give you the fuller picture of it when the Jedi face the witches. um i kind It's a continuation of that filling in all those blanks, very stupid.
00:12:05
Speaker
um The best part of this episode is the Wookiee Jedi goes ape shit He is controlled by the witches and attacks all the other Jedi other than that this episode sucked like truly this show This is where you find out that character development Really does not work for this show no and the the missing pieces of the character like I want to know more about the Sith We're not gonna know until the next episode. I want to know more about soul kinda, but even now I don't really give a shit um What else can you tell? Maybe he'll be like the sacrifice at the end of this, I don't know. But the twins don't give a shit about them at all, haven't cared from the very beginning. um And the only the only great thing was episode 5, and that wasn't any and really character thing, that was just because of the choreography from a lightsaber battle, and that was just it. um And the other thing, this also featured another um musical note from Star Wars, the sequel saga, I think it was Kylo Ren's music played again.
00:13:00
Speaker
um this time somewhere when the when the when the Witch was controlling the Jedi um and that that song played again. So they're hinting to like this could be the central beginning of the Knights of Ren rather than the Sith and maybe that could split off to being something to do with Darth Plagueis or his master or whatever.

Gruesome Events in The Boys Episode 7

00:13:21
Speaker
Who knows? But the show is just fucking black as hell. I don't know if that can be possible because the Knights of Ren aren't don't have art force sensitive. Yeah, so I don't know have yeah I don't know either so And we don't really know and from from what I heard from I think of interview for the producer or whoever did this show showrunner We're not gonna know the full story by the end of the season of especially of the Sith kid So it's kind of like what the fuck's the point of this show for eight episodes? You dragged us on for nothing and we had one good episode and it wasn't character development It was from lace lightsaber battle. That was pretty cool
00:13:59
Speaker
But everything else like is trash and we saw a Jedi Wookiee and like again another choreography another choreographed lightsaber battle that worked but overall it was it was wack as hell but One more episode of that we'll talk about the finale next week and if it if it does play out But I really don't have high hopes for this show um yeah The Boys, Episode 7, came out yesterday. um We see the follow-up of what happens after Webweaver's caution was stolen and worn by Huey. They actually capture Webweaver. Homelander rips him in half.
00:14:34
Speaker
That scene was pretty gruesome um In the deep this is a great deep episode because he had love triangles sir um His octopus finds out about him and sage um He ends up killing his octopus by by breaking her her water tank um also, you find out that black noir was also sleeping with sister stations a little bit of a triangle there too between the three of them which was funny he's like wait a minute you had to give her a lobotomy and two i was like wait i didn't give her a lobotomy so yeah that was great um the assassin that they're hiring to kill the president
00:15:14
Speaker
um Is a shape shifter very first time I think we've seen a shape shifter and the way they do it in the show is really cool um instead of just shifting they rip their skin off and then underneath the skin is a brand new person a brand new shape shifting a Person that they're they're mimicking. So that's pretty cool um By the end of the episode you find out that the shape shifter has captured star lighter She is in a basement or somewhere a room somewhere tied up or chained up and And the shapeshifter is with Huey, he just slept with himself.
00:15:45
Speaker
Yeah, the shape of your grip raped Huey. Huey just got raped, basically, back-to-back episodes. yeah And the other thing I wanted to bring up, um the guy who's playing Black Noir this season is the guy who's played Black Noir from the very first episode of The Boys. And they finally decided to make him the person in the face of of of Black Noir after the other one died, because he's always been quiet up until the season. But um I do want to mention that, Nate Mitchell. so um Yeah, I think this show has been pretty good this season. I don't think it like I think we said it this last season too has It's just not it's just kind of hasn't been living up to the potential of the first couple of seasons But right it still it still hits it's still good and we got one more season and hopefully we'll get a Get a complete complete ending good ending to it. Also, we we see
00:16:35
Speaker
They're coming up with this virus, and we're not sure what's going to happen with that, but we kind of saw what happens this week when the virus goes into a soup, when what's-her-name gets gets the virus in her and they have to chop her leg off because it's going to go through her body. but um Great, now let's talk about House of Dragon episode 4.

Key Moments in House of Dragon Episode 4

00:16:57
Speaker
Yes, it was. Holy fuck. ah Out of all the stuff we watched this week, this is probably my favorite. In the beginning episode, we see more Karen Hall visions from Damon. um This time he cuts off Millie Alcock's head um as she's sitting on the Iron Throne. But this whole episode, the very end of it, is all about the Battle of Rook's Rest. um I know you know more about this. I'm gonna let you lead this story, um how this plays out on TV versus the book.
00:17:27
Speaker
Yep. um Well, the book doesn't really like. Like in the show, obviously like Aemon was like holding back, holding back. Like in the book, it's basically just like, it's like a paragraph or two paragraphs of the actual battle. You don't know, like in the show, they made it, Aemon's intent to basically take his brother down because his brother was supposed to be there in the first place. I was like, well, I'm just going to take them both down. I guess, uh, that was a, that was a show decision decision. Yes. from the bar Okay. Yes. I was wondering. And especially the end when he has the sword out, um,
00:17:59
Speaker
I really can't say too much because I don't want to spoil anything. Um, but Eamon is going to have a big part of the show going forward. Um, which is going to be awesome because we both love that actor and how he's doing this role. Um, I do. But I mean, what's her name, the Rainies, right? um yeahp She went out like a gangster. Like she was like, she's one of the best people in the show. Like she was no nonsense. And when she realized I heard she was just dying, she was like, all right, well, that's that, I guess.
00:18:31
Speaker
oh Yeah, this battle is really cool. A lot of buildup and the battles I assume will be similar to this. It won't be like in Game of Thrones and a lot of times it'll be like an entire episode of a season. on But when it's just dragons versus dragons, like it can't technically like last that long. Like you saw it in the original Game of Thrones when she um went up yeah and just torched a bunch of armies in the seventh season. And it's like, well, that's the end of that battle. um yeah That's basically what happens. It's just dragons on dragons. Yeah, basically like it's only like a close 10 15 minute battle Yeah, Chris equals looking from a hill and saying holy shit. What are we doing here? Why are we wasting? Yeah, but exactly Yeah dragons on the battlefield amazing dragons battling in the sky fucking incredible um And then the whole scene with with her and when she gets killed it's like a massive win for the greens But at what cost?
00:19:23
Speaker
Because, like you mentioned, Aegon is now burned, maybe dead. um I don't think he's dead. I know you know he's not, but... um which is why i think when he had the sword out i think he was gonna try to finish the job or make sure and he got um kind of got stopped in his tracks yes by christian cole um there is things worse than death and uh spoiler alert agon just got something worse than death if you ask me when you see the condition he's like okay and which is good because he's a little bitch fucking hate that guy and the character the actor plays him beautifully because he's supposed to be like that the actor plays him absolutely
00:20:00
Speaker
brilliant like Brilliantly. Yeah, I can't wait to see what they give us next week because I really have no idea how the season is going to end. We're we're halfway through, so. Yeah.

Excitement for Deadpool and Wolverine Movie

00:20:11
Speaker
Yeah. Halfway through. Yeah, that's good. Um, so let's get into the the road to Deadpool and Wolverine. We are officially under two weeks for this movie. Um, and more and more spoilers are coming out. So we're going to try to skip them as much as we can until then. But, um, they're doing these fan events. I think we are a whole bunch of cities. I think they just weren't in London like two nights ago. So they're throwing, they're throwing up like 40 minutes worth of footage, but, um,
00:20:37
Speaker
A lot of cameos are being spoiled. A lot of the stuff for the first 35 minutes, I think, of the movie are being shown. um But we're going to continue and with the last MCU movie that's been out. um The Marvels, aka the Search for More Bangles, came out November of last year of 2023. 33rd film in the MCU.

Discussion on 'The Marvels' Film

00:20:55
Speaker
um This is Brie Larson returning as Carol Danvers, a sequel to miss Captain Marvel looking out in 2019 right before Endgame. um Tiana Perez is Monica Rambeau coming back from Wandavision. Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan from Miss Marvel, which I actually did like that show. So this is a continuation of about three or four different stories because you also got Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury coming in from the Shitty Secret Invasion show. um But the villain is called Dar Ben, a forgettable villain, married to Tom Hiddleston in real life.
00:21:28
Speaker
um And she has Ronin's repaired staff for some reason in the second bangle she steals the beginning first minutes of this movie and It's the opposite of the one that Kamala gotten in her show It gives her the same exact not the same exact powers, but the powers to open up portals um you find out that these are called quantum bands and And they they're used to make portals in like almost in hyperspace. um But with only having one, they're they're very volatile. um And you need the two to kind of make the portals almost perfect. but um But the three leaves end up switching power throughout the movie. Because of the unstable connections, power surges created by the opening of these portals when she tried to use it with one bangle. Which is kind of a weird story.
00:22:17
Speaker
Darbenn is trying to resurrect her lost home world in doing that and sucking in the life of other worlds into hers through these portals. So she's sucking in the sun from another world, water from another world, et cetera, et cetera. um and Samuel L. Jackson has started a new type of shield-like base in space called SABRE. I don't know what it stands for. I didn't write it down, but he has a space station in space which we kind of knew from Secret Invasion. So he's looking over the earth. He's looking over and he has Monica working up there and that's kind of where she starts switching with Carol and and um Kamala um But this episode shows the singing planet language is literally in song a lot of people think that was corny I actually didn't mind it um And the other part of this movie a lot of people didn't like I know you didn't like his goose I didn't really like it either goose the cat who was a flurkin and Has this scene on the spaceship where all of a sudden
00:23:15
Speaker
she has birth to a whole bunch of kittens who are flurkins and in order to save everybody on the space station they all have to suck everybody in and swallow them whole and go into a spaceship so they can all go into a spaceship and land on earth safely while this while the space station is being destroyed. but um So I mentioned the pair of bangles opened up combined opened up a larger wider portals um And ends up a break in space time when she does this for the first time and only time in the movie um Another multiverse bleeding into their universe Monica ends up shutting it down, but sacrifices herself and gets trapped in that dimension We'll get into that in a minute
00:23:57
Speaker
Pre credits we see Kate Bishop. She's going into her room and Kamala Khan is sitting there. I'll ah um Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Iron Man one trying to recruit Kate Bishop for a new team that she's going to be which is going to be the new Avengers eventually um And then we get into the mid credits scene Monica Rambeau wakes up in the spaceship With someone look who looks identical to her mother who she thinks is her mother, but it's actually binary from a a parallel universe who was joined by a comic book accurate 1990s X-Men beast. Played by Kelsey Grammer but the CGI instead of the suit this time. So this is the very first time we've seen the actual X-Men in the MCU. Overall the movie is okay. We didn't give it a great rating back in November.
00:24:46
Speaker
um This is kind of where everything because it was such a failure failure we'll get into that now 274 million dollar budget only made 206 million dollars in the box office 84 million in North America ah Lowest grossing MCU movie failed to even break even so it was a big loss Disney definitely saw that and said you guys need to pick up your shit 62% are rotten tomato 82% audience basically for a clutter story jumbled tonal shifts so overall Movies not good, but hopefully they learn their lesson and we'll have a lot to wait and see on that um We're gonna do a two for this week now We've we covered days of future past last week
00:25:32
Speaker
And now we're going to cover one of the best comic book movies, not only X-Men movies,

Impact of the Movie 'Logan'

00:25:38
Speaker
Logan. Now, I haven't seen the noir Logan until this week and that's what I watched because I've seen the other one I think twice, um the regular one that was the theatrical version. But noir is all black and white, um almost almost silver and silver. It looks really cool. um But if you don't know what Logan is, Logan is set in a dystopian future. um This movie came out in March 3rd of 2017, 10th film in the X-Men franchise, and at the time the final bow for hugh jackson Hugh Jackman, coming back as Wolverine, and Patrick Stewart coming back as Professor Xavier.
00:26:12
Speaker
um James Mangold came in to direct this. This is an R-rated movie. Turned everything up a notch, especially the language, the blood especially. Whims being chopped off. Left nothing to the imagination anymore. Starts off with the OG 20th Century Fox logo, which I thought was incredible in the noir version. And this is all based on the Old Man Logan comic book run. um They made it look to like a dark and violent noir western. slight tech and social upgrades, cyberpunk influenced. Mangold has said that Westerns, specifically specifically Shane, which was shown in the movie, um and Christopher Nolan's films were the influence direct influence for this movie. um Logan, set in 2029, where Professor X has developed a deteriorated mind with dementia, it makes his telekinetic powers unstable, he has seizures,
00:27:05
Speaker
And they're being held at bay by um Logan giving him injections and pills to kind of keep him aloof um And when he doesn't have that he has these seizures that kind of just destroy everything around him a year prior his telekinetic seizures injured 600 killing a group of X-Men in the X mansion most of the major X-Men players um and Professor X is considered by the US government government a met weapon of mass destruction um And they're now hiding out in Mexico um Logan's powers are weakened his healing takes longer and he's an excruciating pain every time his metal claws come out and retract um the We find out later in the movie animantium is poisoning his body his body can't fully heal because of that Steven merchant who created the office with Ricky Gervais plays Caliban a mutant tracker um I thought he was great. He showed up in I think it was apocalypse 2 but I I think he was great in this. I think he did a great job playing that playing that character' kind of Kind of like a pale person who couldn't go in the light. Um, I also find out that no new mutant had been born in 25 years Mutants are getting wiped out um And the also the big addition to this cast is Daphne Keen who's a young actress very first movie She ever did who comes in playing Laura character named Laura. We found out she
00:28:23
Speaker
is a younger clone of Logan, the name being X-23 in the comic books in this too. um Same animalistic abilities, um including the addition of animantium in her body. They ended up doing the surgery for her too and put the animantium on her bones and gave her claws, also gave her Claws on her feet because females fight with her feet um Laura survived to kill water in a lab when she was born um She was being smuggled to Canada to a mutant sanctuary called Eden um This is all came from a comic book and Logan's like don't believe in comic books the shit didn't really happen, but
00:28:57
Speaker
We'll get into that in a minute and they also the addition of this cast who was a great addition You see him a lot of stuff now, but Boyd Holbrook played Pierce He was a great villain in this hunted down Logan and Laura throughout um and Richard E Grant comes in as dr Rice You've seen him and everything, but he's the doctor that created this whole program um And they also have another assassin we find out later in the movie x24 and professor Professor X gets killed by him. It's a soldier-like weaponized version of Wolverine. A complete clone, younger clone of him um and just ready to do just utter damage and kill. um The final 10 minutes of this movie
00:29:43
Speaker
Wolverine finally goes berserker complete animalistic rage in the comic books happens all the time But this is the first time we've really seen him go nuts He takes it like a shot of adrenaline just goes fucking ape shit um Dr. Rice's plans of a mutant genocide are revealed. He started a long time ago. He tested on mutants and got blood samples and fucked up everything. um And then this movie is notorious because of the death of Wolverine. It happens at the end of the movie. He gets he gets stabbed so much from the the clone of himself that um he just can't heal anymore, so he ends up dying. um he He gets buried. There's a cross at his grave. X-23 turns the cross into an X, and that's where the movie ends. Great ending, great movie. Great in black and white, I'm surprised.
00:30:31
Speaker
um and And again, you get a movie like this, a monumental movie, like The Dark Knight, and it changes kind of the tone of everything after, and it's kind of what happened too. The movie had a $97 million dollars budget, $619 million dollars worldwide. 226 million in North America, 93% of Rotten Tomatoes, 90% audience. um Emotional send off, amazing performance for Hugh Jackman, everybody praise that. um So there were plans for another movie, a sequel to this called Laura.
00:31:05
Speaker
um Already written by James Mann Gold and then the Disney Fox acquisition happened. So that was canned obviously um This movie pushed for for other legacy characters mainly Robert Downey jr um To have a fitting send-off for their characters. They played for so long just like Hugh Jackman at the time had probably been playing his character the longest so I It kind of changed everything and it was rightfully it's on everybody's top top of their list between this and the Dark Knight are kind of the top one and two however you feel of comic book movies of all time so rightfully so. um So that leaves us, I mean we've talked about a couple of X-Men movies. We've caught up on phase four and five of Marvel. So now we're finally into bread and butter. Now we're finally finally in the endgame. Next week
00:31:58
Speaker
We're going to cover Deadpool 1 and Deadpool 2, which I'm very excited for. Deadpool 1 changed the way movies comic book movies are portrayed, especially R-rated, because we're going to be getting another R-rated comic book movie in a couple weeks with Deadpool and Wolverine. So very excited for that. We'll talk all about how those movies happened. How Ryan Reynolds leaked that footage to get that movie made which is awesome that ah the whole entire story I don't know where that footage came from. Well, you did it. You filmed it. Where did it come from? We'll talk all about that next week We'll talk about those movies and how successful they were and everything going forward. Um, well that being said Let's get into The news
00:32:47
Speaker
And it's not a new segment, we've got the trailer around him.

Reactions to Gladiator 2 Trailer

00:32:53
Speaker
Oh, this stuff's all mixed up today. Um, we found the first trailer, we saw the first trailer to Gladiator 2. A movie I'm not sure we want to see. However, the cast looks great. The movie looks great. um Continuation of Gladiator 1. We kind of know a little bit more of the story now. um Paul Mescal is the star of this. He plays Lucius. um Pedro Pascal plays Marcus. I'm not even going to attempt these names. but Pedro Pascal. Denzel Washington. ah Connie Nielsen returns, I believe she was in the first Gladiator. um joseph quinn Joseph Quinn plays the Emperor in this, um and Fred Hetchinger, I don't know who that is, but um Joseph Quinn does not look like the Joseph Quinn of Stranger Things, so ah very, very strange for him. He reminds me a lot of Joaquin Phoenix in the first Gladiator, that type of tone.
00:33:46
Speaker
um overall It's pretty much what I expected from the trailer, and so I i wasn't surprised. So we' we'll definitely be seeing that. We're going to rewatch Gladiator or two, because I haven't seen that in probably 20 years now. so Yeah, I haven't seen that in a long time. Yeah, we'll watch that again.

Impressions of 'We Live in Time' Trailer

00:34:02
Speaker
um New trailer for We Live in Time, starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. A24 romantic kind of comedy, dark comedy, um all about this this couple talking about their love story from the beginning, pretty much to the end, I think, is what they're going for.
00:34:18
Speaker
um Yeah, it looks decent. I'm gonna watch that. um A remake of Time Bandits. This looks a lot better than the movie because the movie was not that good, but this is about a group of swashbuckling time travelers who go through time and and and try to try to take things. and it's it's It's a very weird story. First one was done by Terry Gillum, who is one of the stars of Monty Python. um So this is, I don't know who does. I think it may have been Taiko Atiti. I know he stars, and I'm not sure if he's involved in the producing of it, but um it did look really good. It's on Apple TV, I think, next month or the end of this month. I can't remember, but I will be watching at least a couple episodes of

Final Season of Umbrella Academy Trailer

00:34:58
Speaker
that. um And then we get a great trailer to the Umbrella Academy season four. It comes out, I think, on August 8th, about a month from now.
00:35:06
Speaker
um This is going to be the final season of the Umbrella Academy. I love this show. It's on Netflix. If you haven't seen it, go back and watch those seasons before this comes out because I

Preview of 'Watchmen Chapter 1'

00:35:14
Speaker
cannot wait for this season. I love the whole entire cast. I love the characters and everything, so it's great. um And then we got a trailer for Watchmen Chapter 1, the full trailer. This looks fucking great. The animation style looks great. and I can't wait for this. It looks like it looks like the page of the comic book was just ripped right out and put on the on the screen. It looks great. And that's part one. There's going to be another part of that too. um And then we got a trailer for Agatha

Dark Theme in 'Agatha' Series Trailer

00:35:41
Speaker
all along. I know you you weren't excited about this. It comes out September 18th, the first two episodes.
00:35:46
Speaker
um But it looks like they're going the horror element with this pretty heavy. um And it's also like the beginning of it seems like it could be a murder mystery because they're hinting to the body that they find in the woods is is Wanda. after Wanda Maxmoth, the Scarlet Witch, whatever happens. um And Agatha, who is stuck in this hex still after Wanda put her there after she died, or after Westview ended, um she is stuck in this hex still. And I believe there is a scene in one of them. I think it was either maybe Dr. Strange where where the where if a wizard dies, it's hard to break that spell. And I think that's probably going to be tackled in this show a lot.
00:36:30
Speaker
um But the trail looked very, very good. Very dark. There's a lot of demons in it. A lot of witchy, witchy dark Halloween type. And I know the final the finale comes out on Halloween days. That's pretty cool. So I'd probably pick it up a notch that day too. But um look great. I can't wait for that. But that wasn't the only MCU trailer we got this week.

New Captain America Trailer Overview

00:36:48
Speaker
Today, we got the trailer for Captain America Brave New World. um The tone very much on the par with Winter Soldier. um nu Probably if you're to compare it, and that's what everybody's kind of comparing it to as well. um the The addition of Harrison Ford coming in as General Ross because what's his name passed away, who played the character for years. um I think it's great. the ending of the trail The ending of the trailer, of course, everybody knows you see the Red Hulk. it's on the It's on the poster too. Very quick glimpse of him in the poster. He's holding Captain America's shield and he's bending it.
00:37:30
Speaker
um And you also see, and the reason why he's bending it, I want to get into the speculation right now, because we've known about this for a while, but this is the first time we actually see Tiamat, the celestial that's in India, um plays a part in this trailer too, and very quick glimpses, you see Captain America flying around in this big huge hand sticking out of the water. um And the rumor has always been, we've heard this for about a year now, that this is where they're gonna find Animantium in the MCU universe. um And it's so indestructible that I think they're gonna need a new metal to make a new shield. And if Red Hulk can can destroy that shield, maybe they need a bigger, stronger metal to make a better shield. So I wouldn't be surprised by the end of that movie, we have a better shield made out of Animantium, but we'll see.
00:38:20
Speaker
um But the trail looked great. We also saw, like I mentioned, a quick, quick very quick glimpse glimpse of the Red Hulk in its full glory. It's going to be Harrison Ford in CGI, so that will be fun and exciting. so Comes out on Valentine Valentine's Day next year. I think yep Valentine's Day of 2025.

Box Office Performance Updates

00:38:40
Speaker
So um Let's get into the rest of the news um last weekend's box office dominions for one with 75 million million um Inside our inside out to 30 million quiet place 21 million It's become me for had 122 million through the holiday weekend with a July 4th week included in that as well. So ah huge numbers for that um Kevin Costner's Horizon
00:39:05
Speaker
Such a failure in the box office and they took it off the schedule. They're supposed to come out in August 16th. The next movie is taking off the schedule From everything I hear um I think you mentioned it last week. This works the first is like kind of like a first episode of the show. That's what it felt like to a lot of people. It should have been a miniseries. It should have been a miniseries. that's what I guess it just ends with no like resolution to anything that happens. I think they have to piss a lot of people off. But I heard it like a shot really well. But I mean, releasing a three hour Western Yeah. In July is a poor choice. Like this should have been a winter movie or something or fall movie where people aren't like outside or going on vacation at the beach. Um, I think it was a terrible choice to release it in fucking July. Yeah. or yeah i do have rule I think so. I think so too. Um, how's the dragons?
00:39:58
Speaker
Season 2 high. 88.1 million viewers watched the episode 4 battle. um That's huge for them. That's huge for HBO. Especially nowadays with other things streaming. um ah so yeah the the people I keep telling people, I just told a friend of ours to start watching it. and I don't think she may be watching it tonight. but um Because a lot of people lost hope on Game of Thrones. especially after that last season. So it's it's kind of hard to talk to people. It took a lot of time to get them to go in and say, okay, just watch House of Dragons. I think what you loved about Game of Thrones, you kind of got back in House of Dragons, especially this last episode. if you're and This is the perfect time to pick up on that show if you haven't. so
00:40:38
Speaker
um Rest peace to John Landau, film film producer.

Tribute to John Landau and Shelly Duvall

00:40:42
Speaker
um he was He was a big ah big team player with James Cameron. He did the Titanic and Avatar series. ah Only 63 years old, died of cancer. um then she Benji Gregory. um You don't know the name, but you know him as the kid on elf. He was only 60 46 years old He was a little kid on elf who who was in that family That's I mean I loved elf as a kid so rest in peace to him Shelly Duvall rest in peace to her too. She had a lot of a lot of problems later on in life I believe she was homeless and had a lot of mental issues. Yeah, of course most most known for the shining
00:41:25
Speaker
i knew her life way I knew her for Popeye way before The Shining. um That movie is great. i think she's probably I saw somebody say it on Twitter, I think, that she could be the best comic adaptation of a character ever on the screen. And I think that's pretty pretty great on that. Because she did a great job as Alboil. Rest in peace to her. Let's get into the rest of the news.

Skydance's Investment in Paramount

00:41:49
Speaker
We always talk about mergers we always talk about big big huge companies coming together as one um Under a new agreement Skydance will invest around eight million dollars into Paramount um They're gonna take over they're gonna take over the whole entire thing um I can't remember what Skydance did I did look it up, but I don't remember what exactly they were in charge of ah Video games, I think was one of them I think I think fuck a new Star Wars game coming out and something else but I can't remember but
00:42:19
Speaker
um Yeah, who knows But yeah, they're they have 45 day window if they get a better deal um They can take it but they have to pay 400 million dollars for a breakup fee um If they don't take the offer so if paramount doesn't agree to take the offer so um Business sucks. Also speaking of business red box Shutting down after a couple of decades, ah DVD rental, you've seen them in front of kiosks, in front of stores, and i there used to be one right down here du near near my CVS. I went there a couple times. I used to get video games. They're from movies, though.
00:42:54
Speaker
He's getting video games down there, um but they're shutting them all down. Gone bankrupt. Chapter 11 changed to Chapter 7, so we're all closing down. Liquidizing.

Sam Raimi's New Horror Thriller

00:43:06
Speaker
Sam Raimi. He learns to put this on here. He's going to direct a new horror thriller called Send Help. um He's going to be a busy man if he's doing a Marvel movie, too. There's rumors of him coming back from Marvel, so who knows. But I love Sam Raimi. I love his horror style. of Of course, I love his comic book style, too. so um
00:43:26
Speaker
Devil Wears Prada sequel coming out after about 20 years 2006 the last movie came out um they're already writing it ah stars are in talks to return um of course that starred Meryl Streep and Hathaway Emily Blunt um I don't know if you see that movie it's pretty good and um at The time yeah, it's pretty good at the time. I haven't seen in a year. So A new movie Austin Butler and Zola Kravitz Darren Aronofsky called caught stealing now in production going to be in production there They were announced to be the stars of that movie Darren Aronofsky has a lot of great movies. So that'd be cool I'm gonna be a Martin prequel series
00:44:09
Speaker
called

'Martin' Prequel Series Announcement

00:44:10
Speaker
Young Martin. It's in the works. Martin Lawrence is set to produce that movie. Ever watched that show, Martin, back in the day? Yeah, I don't understand why they're doing this, but sure. Not either. um That's not even on any streaming service, is it, Martin? Max? Max, maybe. I don't know. But martin Martin, I love Martin. I actually think I bought all the DVDs before streaming became a thing. but right that's a great show um funny show a lot of guest stars i think biggie was on there tupac was on there a lot of one of the big huge hip hop guest stars in the 90s it was kind of like the fresh prince but a little different obviously like it was like a less popular fresh prince i guess you could say um fresh prince obviously would be the popular one because of course will smith was such a huge movie star afterwards but
00:44:55
Speaker
I used to like Martin a lot. Yeah, this started like right around the time of Bad Boys 1-2, so that's kind of like where his fame began. um The Conjuring, a final Conjuring movie set for September 5th, 2025. Not sure what it's called yet. I haven't seen any of those movies. I'm going to watch at least the first one, I think, on Halloween this year. but um yeah um Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride has moved up a week to September 26, 2025.

'Shrek 5' Announcement

00:45:24
Speaker
I'm kind of excited about that because Christian Bale is playing Frankenstein. um Also has Jake Gyllenhaal, Peter Skarsgard, so I can't wait for that movie.
00:45:35
Speaker
um Also announced this week, Shrek 5. All the cast coming back July 1st, 2026. We've got a couple years to catch up on all those movies, so that'll be good. The first Shrek movie, second Shrek movie is pretty damn good too, but I'm kind of excited about that to see that return. So that year we're getting Toy Story coming back, Shrek coming back. There's another franchise, big huge animated franchise coming back that year too. so Anybody's childhood who was in who was was in the 90s is really going to love that. um Came out this week, David Coveney was doing an interview. talked about he and He ended up auditioning for every single one of the adult lead male roles in Full House and didn't get any any of them. um He was talking about how he was trying to be Uncle Jesse, ah Danny.

Euphoria Season 3 Filming

00:46:23
Speaker
and joey he's trying to be all of them and didn't get through and of course he became a star later on a few years later in x-files but um thought that was pretty funny um announced today euphoria season three is being filming in january of next year uh entire entire cast uh returning i think is the delay had my favorite character right i think the debt i think the delay had to do more with that than anything because they're trying to figure out the story now i think he he had a huge role in that show right he was yeah he was the main star the only reason why i watched
00:46:54
Speaker
she zenday is the main star probably takeup party um but he was like the only person on the show you can like like is everyone and today you can kind of like but like everyone on this show is fucking dickens oh They're all just fucking assholes. And he's like the one person that's like a real decent human being out of everyone in the show. um So yeah, just he's dead. At least they're not recasting him. I was worried they were gonna recast him and it doesn't seem like they are.
00:47:27
Speaker
There's a show that I definitely want to get into. I probably will. um After Dexter, but... Once we have a... Maybe when we have a... Because I want to rewatch it too, so maybe when we get a date for Euphoria Season 3 or whatever. Or we can do it after Dexter, because I do want to rewatch it too. but Good show. Godzilla Minus 1. Just watched it again last night, by the way. Great fucking movie. Um, minus one minus color coming to Netflix on August 1st. So the black and white version of that I think that'll look incredible. ah They look really good. I'm gonna be on Netflix. So that'd be cool August 1st, um Now we finally got some dates on San Diego comic-con.

San Diego Comic-Con Previews

00:48:01
Speaker
I've got some haulage panels and for the boys that day on Friday Lord of the Rings that day the rings of power doctor who Dexter original since there were no more about these shows ah that week
00:48:13
Speaker
That's just Friday. mean I mean and I have some DC stuff no Marvel stuff yet. I'm sure those panels will be announced this weekend, but We got some stuff from DC. We've got absolute power comic panel um Jim Lee's doing a panel Holly Quinn and kite man doing a panel ah my adventures with Superman Superman and Lois What's happening in the DC multiverse DC comic panel um the penguin in Batman caper crusader? No James Gunn he did announce he's not gonna be a comic con this year cause He's busy filming which sucks. Did you see what they're doing with it releasing? No special limited edition
00:48:50
Speaker
Superman for all seasons with everything changed over with the new logo and shit from the movie. Oh, that's cool. That's really cool. Yeah, a very ah comment variant cover. Oh, nice. Which is probably gonna sell for a shit ton on eBay. Yeah. Litting up to the movie, I wouldn't be surprised. That's really cool. Yeah. But yeah. Yeah, we're gonna be seeing some exclusive exclusives. We'll talk about it. And they're releasing merch. They're releasing merch that day too for the new Superman movie. I know that um Alex Ross, he's doing a documentary on Kingdom Come. He's going to be showing that off there. But he's going to have this big huge panel. I think it's going to be like probably 10 feet tall of the Kingdom Come kingdom cup cover with all the characters on it. I saw a picture of it looked awesome. yeah It's going to be like i'm your a huge mural. It's going to be inside the hall. So that's cool.
00:49:43
Speaker
um and now I think yesterday, HBO is reband and rebranding all of those Mac shows, I mean Macs exclusives.

HBO Rebranding Strategy

00:49:52
Speaker
Also, Dune Prophecy. and the penguin are now instead of being just max exclusive they're gonna be on HBO and then on max at the same time makes perfect sense they should get the ratings um I can't wait for either one of those so that'd be cool Arkham Asylum this actually happened while we were on the podcast last week the TV show not moving forward at max um that was that was produced by Matt Reeves set in the Batman universe
00:50:17
Speaker
um Yeah, not going forward um Batman part 2 cast maybe announced the San Diego comic I kept that I saw I kept I kept seeing that pop up this week and in News and notes, so we'll see about that um Brand-new poster for the penguin came out today um the next chapter in the Batman movie saga and This is gonna be out in September.

Penguin Series Poster Release

00:50:39
Speaker
So yeah, it looked good. It looks looks gritty looks dark noir So just like the just like the Batman which I wasn't a big fan of but this looks does look good and I like Colin Farrell as the penguin. So I'll also get the one of the first pictures of creature commandos I mean, I bet you will get something from that at a comic-con I don't know if we'll get a little stinger or trailer or something, but That's coming out in December, right? So yeah by the end of the year so we gotta get some guessing something a comic-con be the perfect place for it, but I
00:51:07
Speaker
Yeah, know we see all the characters of that. um We also see David Cornstead, more spy photos of him filming and in in Ohio. um We see him stuck inside of a hole after he's been attacked. We also see a picture of a dog dressed up in a super uniform who people think is crypto. It's not crypto. It's just a dog on set. And also James Gunn yesterday. It was a one year till that movie comes out of Superman. So he released the official logo. in a HD version of the photo. um Yeah, exactly one year away, so that'd be cool. Lamora Morris. Speaking of noir, cast is Robbie Robinson in Spider-Man noir. This TV show is going forward on Amazon Prime.

Spider-Man Noir Series Casting

00:51:55
Speaker
um Lamar Lamar Morris from new girl great on that show funny as hell um Robbie Robinson Hasn't been played much in the I think he was in the Sam Raimi of a very small role in those films But he's a news reporter at the daily at the Daily Bugle. So um and also Brendan Gleason Wasn't officially announced as part of the cast going to be playing the villain in spider-man noir He of course was mad. I moonie in Harry Potter um he's in a nice uh what's that one that came out the share uh sharing with him and um and and kirk uh kick and yeah irish movie that was up for all the irish like playing on the name yeah i like that movie it's weird i like it
00:52:40
Speaker
um and the rumors the end of the newest this week the rumors are that in Spider-Man no war They were poorly faced the same in would be the main villain of the movie And I'm not sure if Brendan Gleason is going to be playing that but that's a big rumor um Yeah, that's it for news this week next week. We'll talk about the finale of acolyte and the boys We'll also talk about episode 5 of house of dragon um we'll talk about deadpo and wor deadpo one de Deadpool Deadpool Deadpool 2 and One will be one week away from Deadpool at that point Cobra Kai starts up in six days the final season part one on Netflix um And next Friday twisters. I don't know if we're gonna see that or not, but I didn't want to bring that up um And then by the end of the month and the week after is big week Purple rain 40th anniversary gonna talk about that Deadpool and Wolverine we're gonna do a big review on that um in that weekend San Diego comic-con happens we're gonna talk about that that that night we may and
00:53:37
Speaker
We've been talking, we may do a live Marvel DC State of the Union after the H, the Hall H panel on Saturday night when Marvel releases all their information. Um, if not, we'll do it the next week, but we're in the planning stage. we may We may go live on Facebook and YouTube, but, um, and also somewhere around here in this, that this week or next week, I'm going to review the Watchers too, because I have procured that. So, um, so thanks everybody. And we will talk to you next week. Bye.
00:54:12
Speaker
I'm not telling the truth I know, you know, they just don't have any proof It's the deception you learned how to bend You're worse than the visions that will psych you out in the end
