00:00:41
Speaker
It's 2024 and we have a new Weird Al focus song start to start the show.

They used to be the weirdest part of his albums. Still weird to this day. However, I still think it's cool.
Deadpool and Wolverine Anticipation
00:01:07
Speaker
Welcome to the show everyone. and We are one week. Less than one week from Deadpool and Wolverine. A lot to talk about. Some breaking news today, as a matter of fact. um Something I was hoping they wouldn't do is spoil some big reveals for the movie a week out, but they did the same thing for Doctor Strange's Multiverse of Madness. We'll talk all about that at the end,
Dexter Season 6 Recap and Analysis
00:01:27
Speaker
but... um First off, let's talk about what we watched this week. I got back into the second half of Dexter, Season 6.
00:01:41
Speaker
Now, we talked about this season a little bit where the relationships have changed. Batista and LaGuardia have broke up. Quinn and Deb have finished, completely finished. They are done. um And this season is a deeper look into Dex and Deb's relationship. We'll get into that in a minute. But I left off right when Brother Sam dies and he has to kill the person that killed him. And in doing so, his brother comes back in this next episode and takes over from when from when his father is usually in his conscious talking to him.
00:02:24
Speaker
um I thought this was amazing. I thought this was awesome. It was a really fun episode. And he's trying to talk him into killing without without the the code, pretty much. yes And by the end of that episode, he kind of puts his brother in the back burner, ends up running over him figuratively.
00:02:47
Speaker
and that also that episodes return of Trinity or what he thinks so he has to go up to Nebraska ends up being Trinity's son who we saw in that season um Kills the mother kills ah the yeah daughter the daughter ends up committing suicide and he kills the mother for it or something like that um and then Then that whole story kind of plays out too in there um Also Batista sisters added to the cast and Um, the only thing I know about her... Yeah, she's she's a nanny to two Harrison. Um, the only thing I know about her is she writes a comic... Oh, she did, um, I think a comic book with AJ Lee, who's married to CM Punk. I knew her before this, but...
00:03:30
Speaker
Um, we also see Quinn have a drunken spiral after he broke up with Deb. We see that throughout this whole entire season. He has a lot of funny moments. Um, a lot of funny and ridiculous moments. Um, but this whole entire season has to do with religion. We mentioned it as kind of like, um, the book of revelations was the basis of this. It starts Colin Hanks. Um, he has a religious experience throughout this whole entire season. Um, and the big reveal, Travis, who is taught Colin Hanks' character, the big revelation that he has his own dark passenger. And that's his professor from the beginning of the season, who you think is his partner, ends up being his vision, his...
00:04:10
Speaker
Consciousness talking to him which I thought that was a cool twist didn't see it coming at all um yeah And then you go back you look at his placement throughout where he's kind of Wonder he's kind of a team with this professor and they're and they're doing these killings in the beginning and you realize it's just him and that includes him killing his own sister, which I thought that was fucking mind-blowing Very fight club ask I wrote that in the notes. Um, but There's this wormwood like Chemical device they sent that this guy sends to the police station the whole entire episode so much tension um There's a there's a woman sitting in the lobby waiting for Was it Deb coming in the office? I believe at the time she's lieutenant now and you're you know that she's got this bomb in her in her backpack and
00:04:59
Speaker
She ends up sitting there, everybody's coming in and they're walking by her and then suddenly they bring her out to the back to meet up with Deb. Dexter Caesar recognizes her from a photo on the computer with the real killer and goes and grabs her, throws her in the room to contain her in their interrogation room. And he ends up getting some of the virus, some of this poison on him too. That episode had so much fucking tension. I love that. I wanted to bring that up. That's a very good episode. Yeah. um And then throughout the rest of the season you have a deeper look into Deb and Dexter sibling relationship um Deb is in therapy after everything finally six years. It took her to go into therapy um She has this weird thing like she may be in love in love with Dexter um I know this is all because they're in there together in real life. That's why that story happened. Yeah, I
00:05:52
Speaker
the end He ends up catching Travis at the end, puts him on, it gets him into this church, puts him in his ritual where he's going to stab him, stabs him, and who walks in? Who's the first one of his family friends to find out that he's a serial killer? Of course it's his sister. Saw this a mile away. Deb walks in the church as she's as he's stabbing Travis. um Great cliffhanger. I have started watching a couple episodes of season seven, so I know how this is going to play out. She kind of When he tells her in the beginning of season seven that, yeah, dad was giving them this code to he knew about it, she just kind of took but took her by surprise, a disbelief. yeah my My father really did this. Her entire life is basically a lie at this point. Yeah. Yeah. This is only beginning of season seven. I know that it'll play out throughout the season. yeah One thing I guess it's now OK to talk about since you got to the end of season six is the original what Clyde Phillips was going to do to end the show in season five before he got promoted.
00:06:51
Speaker
and left the show. Season five is gonna play out very similar, except there wouldn't have been the girl, Dexter wouldn't have been helping her. He would have been, basically the first half of it, it would have been him taking out um the person trapping the girls in the barrel or or doing something like that. okay And then Deb was gonna find out then, and the last half of season five was gonna be Deb hunting him down, leading to the conclusion of the show where Deb ends up having to arrest Dexter. okay That was the original season five. But because season four's ratings were so off the charts, obviously, because of how fucking good it was, they hired a new showrunner, and they decided to continue on and just keep doing it until we get to the eventual season eight, and then Clyde Phillips returning for New Blood. And of course, Clyde Phillips is writing all the episodes for the revival series. I did see that, yeah. I was going to talk about that in the news. that's that's something That gives me a lot of lot of good faith in that. But I guess we'll see when we see, hopefully, it comes out.
00:07:52
Speaker
I'm hoping like November December end of the year.
Discussion on TV Show Finales and House of Dragon
00:07:54
Speaker
Yeah, good. Yeah, summer show Yeah, we'll talk about that news a little bit further. But yeah shows great. Um Probably gonna watch most of season seven by the end of next week race Johnson. Yeah. Yeah, we met him. He's great So good. So good. I love him. Anyway, I have some really good back and forths Race is just so fucking good. Yeah. Yeah, yeah they're on a they're on a hunt for a Ukrainian killer who killed a prostitute. That's where I'm at right now. ah We have seen Ray Stevenson. He just showed up at the bar in the strip club in Miami. He's there now. So that's where I'm at right now. so but Two or three episodes. And like I said, that the beginning of that season, Deb is kind of watching over Dexter almost too much.
00:08:38
Speaker
And Dexter's like, you need to back the fuck up. You're making me mentally. And he's envisioning killing people around him. Like there's one point they're in the they're in the room getting having a briefing. And what's his name? Mazuka starts talking shit. It's like she's staring at you. And he has a vision of taking a pen and just stabbing Mazuka in the neck. He's like, that's the type of shit he's like. He needs to get that animalistic rage out of him. And Deb's just Deb's just bringing it out more and more. But Great so great season. I can't wait to get in the seven and finish it now You're saying season eight ends badly, but you think new blood eight in general isn't great the okay i don't really like how it ends i want your take on it oh okay soon but pretty soon And you say do you say new blood kind of ah fixed everything that people were complaining about I
00:09:29
Speaker
I like New Blood. um The ending I wish was a little bit different also, but it's way better than the original ending, I'll say that. okay okay I think it ends the show real decently. i mean to With a show like this, it's it's like, how many shows that people love actually end where everyone's happy? like Very, very few. I'd say maybe Breaking Bad is one yeah that most people accepted. Sopranos is one where everybody hates. Yep, Sopranos, Game of Thrones. like yeah There's just so many. Of course, the greatest series finale of all time is Six Feet Under, which also stars Dexter in that show. That is by far and above my favorite series finale. So that's when we throw that episode on. It's like an hour and a half. It's fucking fantastic. I was just told two weeks ago ago to watch that show.
00:10:18
Speaker
I haven't my i've told you this before. You probably have. It seems like there's an echo between you and another friend of mine that keeps echoing stuff. Let's just say that. but um Let's talk about House of Dragon episode 5. Now the episode we left off of before this was amazing. Probably one of the best Game of Thrones episodes. but um This one We see them in the very beginning of the episode, they're taking this dragon head of the dragon that they slain into into King's Landing and the crowd is not getting the reaction that the the art the higher ups want. They're looking at this as an omen.
00:10:59
Speaker
um yeah So yeah, and it's very it's very cool, the visual of this coming through the crowd, the big huge dragon head. We also find out more about Aegon's condition. With the with the dragon head, I think the issue too is... ah the Targaryens basically say the dragons are unkillable and then they kill one and they drag it through the streets now that the small things and feel weak weaker it well it makes it feel like they can be like that they could maybe possibly uprise against them also yeah if the dragons can actually be killed because they don't know that the dragon was killed by another dragon they just see the dragon head
00:11:33
Speaker
Yeah, like I mentioned Aegon's condition we find out about it. He's not dead However, like you mentioned last week and what's worse than death is being yes this mangled burnt up mess that Yeah, off his armor stuck to him his gross blood pouring from him flesh. Yeah, um so with him out of the picture I Amen is next in line um yeah And he is very menacing um And everybody votes to bring him in um The first first thing he says is take all the bodies down of the rat catchers or where do they come out rat catchers What do they call them? Yeah, they're ah basically rat catchers. Um, yeah Yeah
00:12:16
Speaker
um And then they talk about these two dragons that don't have riders and they brought it up in the first season too I wanted to get your your I know you know what's gonna happen. I kind of do too a little bit um But vermin sir and silver wings Two of the largest dragons, I think one of them is the largest dragon dragon in this world right now. Aemons is the largest one, yeah. Okay, and he runs and these yeah and these two are down in, a they're in a mountain or they're in a cave somewhere on in dragon in Dragon's Keep or wherever this place is called. i mean got Tell me a little bit more about this so I understand it going into this meeting. Oh wait, you mean, oh wait, Aemons dragon is,
00:12:58
Speaker
not for Yeah, Vermothor doesn't have a rider right now, right? Yeah. Yeah, Vermothor doesn't have the riders in the end. They have these two dragons that don't have dragon riders. So they're kind of like having a gun without any bullets. Yeah. oh So to speak. um So, of course, the end of this, Jace, I think Jace is fucking he owned this episode. He was great in it. None of that stuff from what I remember is in the books as far as him giving Heron Hall to the phrase. None of that's in the books from what I recall. And now you're gonna get a lot of like the bastards and
00:13:37
Speaker
the offspring of Targaryens that aren't technically Targaryens so like which has been hinted why which has been tested that from this whole season yes yeah because that's they need more dragon riders by Rhaenyra side because they just lost their best one basically yeah yeah so they're gonna attempt to find dragon riders with different poses. They have this whole wall of of books and and and pamphlets that they have to look through with history of lineage. And that seems like that's what this next episode is going to be dealing with. So I want to get into that. And this now this dragon, the biggest dragon on record is King Aegon from years ago, correct? yeah That was the biggest dragon.
00:14:21
Speaker
yeah biggest dragon ever by far vermin the last one to ride that was Renara's father that was his dragon right when the dragon died Right. Vermithior is the largest dragon in this world now, right? And he's hidden under this mountain. I think so. It's Vermithor and then Aemon's dragon. Silverwing is kind of like the connected, like they're not a relationship, but you know what I mean. They're like co-hab, co-whatever you ever call them for dragons.
00:14:58
Speaker
on I don't want to get that clear before I get into this weekend's episode because I know we're going to get deep into that. The the trailer for it shows them going into this cave trying to to see these dragons and they're very vicious, very volatile. So I can't wait to see that. um So we are what this one episode was this it was episode five. So we have three more left in the middle of August. We'll talk about that. um And then we get into the final episode of the acolyte season one.
Acolyte Series Review and Star Wars Phenomena
00:15:28
Speaker
Um, oh boy is right. Now I've already, I've been up and down with this. I'm very, I don't know what we'll see for a season two of this. There are stuff in this episode that I want to talk about that very excited for, but like,
00:15:46
Speaker
Okay, we're getting into it right now. Sol has a fight with this new Asian emo, Kylo Ren. I don't remember his name. What? Future? Quater? I can never remember his name, yeah. All I know is he's kind of a Knights of Ren mixed with a Sith. We're not really sure what he is. um But they have this huge battle, which is almost it's very much kung fu influence. I think it's great. um Everything that Saul has done, which were, spoiler, not going to see him again next season, um has been amazing. The choreography, everything has been great. um what what A lot of great lightsaber stuff in this battle, too. um But, of course, he perishes. The twins end up having the roles reversed, kind of.
00:16:34
Speaker
In the beginning of the episode, in the beginning of this season, one of the twins, I can't remember, I don't even remember names because they don't mean anything. it me I just don't know who is who. um Right, I don't know who's who. um But one of them was starting to kill all the Jedi that fucked her up, fucked her up and killed her family. I think that's, I think that's May. May, right. They thought she was dead. She ends up coming back from, then she was actually living the whole time and she turns to the dark side through this Asian Kylo Ren who's telling her to do all this stuff. um By the end of this episode, the other twin, who is the Jedi, who got who left the Jedi Order because she had too much darkness in her, let the darkness take over and she becomes full on almost Sith. She has a blue lightsaber of soul.
00:17:20
Speaker
breaks the kyber crystal and for the very first time in star wars seeing it visually the lightsaber crystal blue blue blue crystal turns red it's called bleeding a lightsaber and they also pissed me off so much is because when it happened to vader he almost died and he's like the most powerful jedi of all time and it just with her just like happens and it's like no big deal It seems also that there's a weird Jedi cover-up from this blue blue Jedi master. We don't know anything about her. And then there's a weird... The the episode ends. Cliffhanger being that Mei, Osha, and this Kylo Ren looking guy end up going off somewhere together.
00:18:07
Speaker
There is this weird Jedi master that's on Coruscant. We don't know anything about her. She's the one that has the whip lightsaber. After the credits start to air, mid credits, she goes into a room and we see Yoda, which we knew he has to be here because he's that old. We knew he was in this time period, but we only see the back of him. Of course, this is cameo porn at its best. I don't know if this will be any played off in a season two because we're not sure if we're going to see a season two for this, but the biggest cameo show runnner right the biggest cameo that I care about that I didn't if this show didn't end with this cameo I would been more pissed
00:18:47
Speaker
was finally seeing in the shadows, by the way, first time I watched this, I missed it. I don't know if I wasn't paying attention to the screen or not. Watch the episode, it's like... You'll leave your phone for a second and you're gonna miss it. Yep, I missed it and I go online and say, wait a minute, what the fuck scene was this? And it was at the end when they leave the caves, you see this menacing shadow figure with his hand popping out of the cave, and you see a very quick glimpse of his face, and sure enough, I've seen pictures of this guy so often in the in the comic books and the stuff that they've shown them and it was Darth Plagueis uh... and very first time we see him in the shadows very very quick and you miss it and you do miss it seems I can vouch for it for that uh... but the showrunner for the show has said that uh... and before this episode airs she said that she she knows of the act what where this acolyte collects connects to Darth Plagueis uh... and if she gets to continue this story uh...
00:19:40
Speaker
she She would like to say and think that it's pretty complicated and messy. Now, I do not like that. I don't like messy and this being involved in explaining this show at all. It's already messy. So i I really hope that they bring in, like you said, somebody better to tell this story. This is kind of important. If you're going to be bringing up something, if you're going to be bringing up something that's connected to the rest of the Star Wars mythos finally in the last episode and you don't properly explore that in this in a season two, you're wasting your fucking time. And this is this is giving me weird juice chills that remind me a lot of the sequel trilogy already, but
00:20:20
Speaker
um And the characters we need something we need like this this eight this Kylo Ren look-alike guy. I really like him yeah We're gonna talk we're gonna talk about him a little bit. There's some music, you know him cuz he was in talk on Maverick We'll talk about that in a minute, but um He is great in this show And I really hope that he becomes the lead in the second season, if they do a second season. I know a lot of people are watching the show. It's almost becoming a hate watch because they want to see like, I wanted to see what the hell are we going to see? Darth Plagueis kind of, we did. And now we want to see, okay, now how does he finally embrace this creating life with the force? Like that's going to create Anakin later on. Is he going to find a master in,
00:21:08
Speaker
Palpatine are we gonna see a very young Palpatine or a baby Palpatine we are a hundred years or so Before the prequel trilogy, so we're not really sure Timeline wise what we're going to see we're not really even sure how old Palpatine is either. We know he's from Naboo um Other than that, we don't know too much. And Nubu hasn't really been explored other than Episode 1. Episode 2, I think a little bit, we've seen Nubu, but um I don't know if we're going to see a young Palpatine or a Palpatine's parents. Maybe he's created from the Force, we're not sure. um So we'll have to wait and see on that. but
00:21:41
Speaker
Overall, series-wise, had a couple of high points, some great lightsaber battles, stuff that we always, like, they do a great job showing stuff that we want to see. Lightsaber battles, space battles, stuff that's never been shown, never been seen, but the rest of the story is so bad. The character development, The characters are bad. They don't care about him except for Saul who is now dead. He was killed by ah by one of the twins, but um Overall serious was pretty bad. So I don't know if it'll come back for a season two Maybe this will be explored in another way The funny thing is all the hate watching is probably gonna get to a season two because people were watching it
00:22:20
Speaker
Right, and and plus Dark Plagueis is taking over as a viral meme, so we'll see. we'll see um But we will get into Season 8, Season 4, Episode 8 finale of The Boys. This I thought was great. um A lot of people are kind of mixed on it, but I'm not. I'm going to get your take on it in a minute, but we'll talk about the the aspects of the show. this We already know that Annie um star Starlighter has been kidnapped. She has a doppelganger shapeshifter that has taken her place, has raped Huey a bunch of times.
The Boys' High-Stakes Tension and Themes
00:22:54
Speaker
Huey says 20 times, which is funny. Less than 20. Less than 20. So 19 times. But this episode is all Annie versus Annie. I thought her playing off of her herself um very cool. um Towards the end she ends up she ends up killing her doppelganger, the shapeshifter. It's a gruesome scene where she gets out of the handcuffs where she's locked in this basement and her wrists are being ripped apart to shreds.
00:23:23
Speaker
Also, they're doing a Vought Tower cleanup and Homelander tells all the Supes to kill everybody in the tower that could have been incriminating evidence about through of them. um And they do. That scene is brutal. um And we also finally see Frenchie and Kamiko finally, finally, after Four Seasons Kiss and almost become a couple. um I really do love their relationship, their dynamic together. The weird part of this season where he was gay was strange to me in the beginning because I always wanted to see them together, Frenchie and Keniko. I'm glad that by the end they finally realized that yeah this is what everybody wants to see.
00:24:01
Speaker
um We also see Ryan, who home who Butcher tries to get him to say, listen, you're our you're our only hope. Homelander is evil. They tell Ryan everything that Homelander's done, the evil stuff behind the scenes, and tells him, you're you're our only hope. You need to kill him. He's like, you want me to kill my father? And he goes ballistic. And Grace, who is a character we've seen from the very first season, who was the one that wrote who erased Ryan, um ends up trying to stop him and he pushes her and breaks her neck and she kills Grace So that's kind of that's kind of where we left off with Ryan Home later doesn't know where Ryan is he's left And we also see butcher
00:24:44
Speaker
Butcher's like, he doesn't he's kind of at his last steps. Um, Jeffredine Morgan's still talking in his ears like, you gotta let me in, you got gotta let me, you gotta let me take over and that's exactly what happened. Butcher goes full symbiote. Um, like I mentioned, we and we knew that there's something inside of him, some sort of a so sort of a virus, some sort of a, um, parasite. And you finally see these powers manifest into like a symbiote-like, venom-like thing where these tendrils come out of him. and start killing everybody in this room that there have surrounded the boys. um And then we get into the political part of this series, this season, I wasn't too... I didn't really care about. However, I ah knew it all leaded up to what we're going going to be season seeing in the final season. This Homelander hijacking the government. And not only the world the US s government, but the world government. They end up invoking martial law. Supes are now the governmental army.
00:25:44
Speaker
So every everybody that our enemies are being rounded up and towards the end of the episode, um Nirvana's heart-shaped box ends up playing and the boys are attempting to go into hiding but are quickly apparhended apprehended by a whole bunch of familiar supes including members of Gen V um and to a point where the girl, I can't remember her name, I think it's Kate who can control peoples by talking to their talking to them. um She ends up telling Frenchie goes into his ear, tells him to go into a the back of a paddy wagon, um and they end up getting arrested. It's all over her, apprehended, except for Starlighter, who ends up flying off. She gets her powers back, and of course, Butcher, who's gone. He's full on. Jeffrey Dean Morgan in his head now, so he's he's fully, completely taken over.
00:26:34
Speaker
um So that's where we're at right now. Mid-credit scene, Homelander comes into a room and finds out that Soldier Boy is still alive, who is his father. um So we already know he's going to be back for next season, which will be great. um And then, right on this episode, lucky hope they bring in jerry pe that's the whole rumor. Yeah, yeah that's the rumor. um And then we get a couple of posters that were released right when the episode was released. It's Homelander standing on the lawn of the White House. And Homelander standing on the lawn of a lot of world landmarks, including Big Ben, um Buckingham Palace in in London. um So we already know this is going to have worldwide complications throughout. The soups are taking over, not just America, but the world.
00:27:20
Speaker
Um, I know this is, I know this is, I know the iconic scene. They show it everywhere of Homelander standing on the lawn in the White House like this poster with Supes flying over it. I hope, I know everybody wants to see that. I kind of do too. Um, Supes are the police now, so it's going to be awesome. The last final season of The Boys. Um. Overall, I liked the season. um Like I mentioned, the political stuff I can go i can go without. um But getting we knew we had to get to this point where Homelander was basically Emperor. He's the most powerful person on the planet, and of course he's going to rule. so Kind of excited about that. um So the TV show's out of the way. Let's talk about two movies. I know these two you've seen, and we're going to talk about them in full right now.
Film Reviews: The Watchers and Bike Riders
00:28:02
Speaker
Spoiler filled. The Watchers finally watched that movie. I have not seen that.
00:28:08
Speaker
Oh, you haven't- I thought you did see the watchers. Well, I'll talk about it. Um, M. Night Shyamalan's daughter, she filmed this. This is our first direct directorial debut. um... dakota fanning stars in it uh... without giving too much away um... they are this group of people that get sucked into this into this um... forest and there's this one single house in there uh... they go in there at night and the you see it from the trailers you see this mirror in front of them that they can't see what's outside but what else what's outside can see and see what they're doing and
00:28:45
Speaker
and And watch them pretty much and that's what the whole movie is about and you find out more about the mythology of this um I thought overall the movie was good probably three and a half out of four for me five for me um You don't see Dakota fanning in too much anymore She was more of a child actor and a lot of movies back then she was in Twilight and a whole bunch of other stuff But overall, good movie. Was she in that Little Miss Sunshine movie? Is that what it was? That was Abigail Breslin, I think. See, I don't remember because they're all around the same time. But yeah, I can't remember what she was in. But overall, yeah, three and a half out of five. Very good. Shyamalan-esque twist that's kind of in the middle and the end of this movie. Yeah, not too bad. There's some mythology.
00:29:31
Speaker
Um, this is set in Ireland. So you kind of get some Irish mythology in there too, which I thought was kind of cool. Um, yeah. Yeah. Watch that. Also, I know you've seen this. We're going to talk about this. Definitely. Um, the bike riders. I watched it last night. Great movie. Um, seem like there was something missing from it. I, mean I'm going to get, I'm going to talk about it full, but the star, Austin Butler, Jody Comer, you're right. Her accent was annoying. Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, Norman Reedus, this had a cat huge awesome cast. I don't know who directed it, didn't get too much information on it. um I will say this, Austin Butler, um underused do you think in this movie? I think this is more of a Tom Hardy um movie. It is, but like he's like the main guy it's based on. Right. I love Austin Butler in this. I really want him to be Green Arrow in the DCU.
00:30:24
Speaker
I like him a lot as an actor. I mean, it focuses a lot more on Hardy because he's like the leader of the bike gang that started it. But the whole thing just pulled through Austin Butler and his life thing. So I get a little bit of a realized. Yeah, the promotion of the movie made you feel like Austin Butler was the main star of this, but it seemed like it should have been Tom Hardy on the top of the poster, for sure. Yeah, because it was his story. Honestly, it's kind of Jodie Cormier's movie to be honest. Yeah, you're right. It's really her. And like, yeah, I mean, I enjoyed this movie. I just thought they should have gone further with it. I mean, they kept calling it the good fellas on bikes and it just didn't have that.
00:31:13
Speaker
good fellas type of feel to it, I guess, or like, like when they burn down the bar, like, they're all just standing there and the cops just watching him and they're like, and Tom, I was like, oh, they're curious, but then they never go and get like revenge on the two dudes that like, did that shit to Austin Butler, like, I don't know, just, it seemed odd that they didn't like, show some things that I thought they should've, so then again it's all based on the book, so that's something I've not been to the book either, so... true true true story stuff so you can't change that but yeah I should've looked into it, I'm sure there's a YouTube like video on like the real life stuff that happened, oh and also after watching, you've never seen it, but you watch Sons of Anarchy, and you go and I just watched that last summer, and then you go into this, and
00:31:56
Speaker
This just felt very like tame compared to Sons of Anarchy and what they do in Sons of Anarchy, especially the violence. Yeah. The thing I like about this, it did kind of explain what happened with biker gangs, how they got such a bad reputation. like Tom Hardy started it as a group, like a club for men to have group together. um Like you mentioned, little little bit of thuggishness to them, like like God, like Goodfather. Which most biker gangs start that way. Right. Since the hierarchy, that biker gang, even though it's a fictional biker gang, we started for the same exact reason. Yeah. They started as a mechanic shop, just guys that wanted to ride bikes together and then they get into other things. But yeah, then the drugs, the drugs, the younger kids come in, and this is right after Vietnam. I love how that was all explained, like the younger kids from Vietnam come in with the drugs that kind of ruined everything. Which is where most biker gangs started up is right after Vietnam.
00:32:44
Speaker
yeah Yeah, that's Easy Rider, of course, is the big movie that brought all of that on. But yeah um overall, three and a half out of five again for me. um This movie was um was good. I liked seeing it, but I don't think I'll watch it again in the last maybe 10 years. One of those movies that's good to watch, but it's you're not going to watch it again. yeah And for no other reason, that it's just like it's kind of there. like it's It's a good movie, but I don't think it's worth watching multiple times. you and It's not like you're going to catch something you missed the first time. Jodie Cormier putting on that voice. I know she sounds a lot like somebody from the Midwest, but yes oh for two hours listening to that voice. like her narrating
00:33:21
Speaker
the yeah we' narrating the story but that voice basically iss just no yeah um Yeah, so three and a half out of five for me. Did you end up watching any of Cobra Kai? I know it debuted yesterday on Netflix. Watching it tonight, okay. ah We'll get into that next week, I'll add it to the notes. um But, we're on the we're on the road to Deadpool and Wolverine, and we are concluding it today.
Deadpool Series Impact and Production
00:33:44
Speaker
We've talked about X-Men, we've talked about, thank y god you're right, we've talked about Marvel. You gave so many notes for this. well not only it worked By the way, we'll bring it up now, we'll talk about it at the end too. We're going to have a show next week, next week's huge. We'll talk about it at the end. We're going to take off the week after because I have been watching so much stuff. The one thing I learned next year,
00:34:04
Speaker
When we talk about not only Superman, but we're gonna talk about Fantastic Four too. We need to make sure we start in fucking March, so I don't have to spread out and do two fucking movies a week. Because we have a lot to talk about next year. Yeah, we can start early. check Yeah, because we have a lot to talk about, because with ah with the Fantastic Four movies and Superman, we're gonna get a lot of that stuff next year. But, um yeah, getting into the road to Deadpool and Wolverine, we're getting to the end. And we're talking about two great movies in the X-Men universe. um The whole reason that we're here, we're gonna talk about Deadpool 1. Came out on February 12, 2016.
00:34:50
Speaker
Now, we saw this in the theater. Great movie. Ryan Reynolds of course starring in this. Now this whole history of this character in movies started in 2009 with Wolverine Origins, the X-Men movie with a Wolverine where it kind of shows him his beginning, how he became Wolverine. um He didn't get the metal claws at all in that movie, it was all wooden claws. um and But you see, you see
00:35:21
Speaker
Ryan Reynolds showed up in that movie as a version of Deadpool that everyone hated, universally hated. In fact, that movie, I don't know the Rotten Tomatoes score exactly, but it's the lowest of the X-Men movies, except for the end, the other X-Men movies that were towards the end. Dark Phoenix is the worst. But Ryan Reynolds wanted retribution. A lot of people were like, why the fuck would you fuck up one character that everybody loves Deadpool? They made him shut his mouth. They had his mouth sewn shut. um He was implanted with a whole bunch of different pools. Like Deadpool was a pool of powers.
00:35:58
Speaker
Rather than how he was actually in the comics So after a while it was greenlit now in fact this movie has with Ryan Reynolds has been in development since February 2004 They ended up putting him in the origins movie just because he was already he was already on there um Hold on a minute. I just want to get this ready. I have something we're gonna talk about at the end. Well, please um so By the time this movie was going to be coming out, it was about 2012, a couple of years after the failure of Wolverine Origins, um they started filming the direct, they already got this director, um Tim Miller on there, to film some test footage with Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. And Fox wasn't really picking up on it.
00:36:48
Speaker
So what happened was there was a quote-unquote leak of this footage. I remember saying, and I'm sure you do too, it went on the internet, it went pretty viral of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in the very, what ended up being the very beginning of the movie on the whole, this whole sequence. And it was, it went viral. Um, and it ended up green lighting the film. Fox was like, wow, the fans love this shit. This is exactly what they want to see for a Deadpool movie. Let's give Ryan Reynolds the reins and also let's make this R-rated because this looks great. People are loving the R-ratedness of it. Lots of blood, lots of language. um So that's how it happened.
00:37:25
Speaker
um Directed by Tim Miller like I said the only other movie he's directed was Terminator Dark Fate He ended up taking that over after Deadpool he passed on Deadpool 2 we'll get into that in a few But I'm written by a Rhett and Reese at Paul Wernick The only other thing that I remember them doing before this was the Joe Schmo show I can't remember what else they did after them before this but um but this is a movie Deadpool known for of course fourth wall bricks and um Other ki comic characters have that sense of awareness in the Marvel comics. You got She-Hulk. Saw that in the show. Gwenpool. The Watcher, of course. And Slapstick, who was a circus clown who ends up becoming sadistical and weird. um But the movie also focuses on pop culture. um And he jokes about stuff in the fourth wall through pop culture, also jokes about the like Ryan Reynolds' life in real life, like Green nu Lantern being a failure.
00:38:21
Speaker
um wolverine war or Wolverine origins being a stumble for Wade. Lots of inside jokes throughout that. um Talks about the film's budget limitations and not having potential X-Men cameos. The only one they have can of afford is Colossus. um Jokes a lot about Hugh Jackman. um Talking directly to the audience a bunch of times. Throws a lot of Ryan Reynolds' personal jabs in too. The fourth wall is what makes this movie perfect and great. um The R rating too. Awesome mix of action, humor, and heart. um Also stars Marina Bauchram.
00:38:56
Speaker
as Vanessa T.J. Miller. He's a bartender. Gina Carranos, kind of the henchman to Ed Stream, who is Francis, aka at Ajax, who is the whole villain of this movie. I thought he's fantastic. um The only other thing we saw him before this was Game of Thrones, right? He was in the first couple of seasons and they replaced him. He yeah, he was the original Dario. Dario, yeah, I can't i can remember his name. Yep, perfect choice because I think this is going to be more iconic in his resume. but And Breanna Hillbrand, for the very first time, saw her as nagason Nagasonic Teenage Warhead, an X-Men character very not utilized at all, um very not much known in the public books about her. She had been in two comics before this. Yep, but yeah she she was a young girl that ended up going in this. She has the power of almost like a nuclear, not nuclear, but explosions.
00:39:49
Speaker
I have a feeling that character is probably supposed to be like Jubilee or somebody like that But they ended up bringing in somebody like that like a teenager but yeah um But the costume very comic accurate um But Colossus was comic accurate finally and we saw him in the the singer universe but they finally brought in a fully CGI and Russian Colossus in this and comic accurate. We see the X-Mansion, we see the Bluebird. um We're not really sure if this is a parallel universe with the X-Men universe or or whatever the thing our universe is called. um We know he knows about Logan, Wolverine, but who knows. um We also meet Blind Al, his roommate, who's a blind woman who he makes jokes with, and Dopinder, who is a taxi driver. I love Dopinder, especially in the second one. two
00:40:40
Speaker
yeah um We get a Stan Lee, great Stan Lee cameo in this movie too. He's a he's a DJ at a strip club. um This is also right around the time I i saw Stan Lee in 2015 when this was filmed. So this is right around the end of his and of his time doing cameos and stuff. That's pretty cool. um but yeah The Deadpool costume, the character design, um the animated eyes. The very first time we see animated eyes, it's usually all like just just there. um The Spider-Man costume, the eyes never animated, but in the comic books, it's kind of how they emote. And that's how that's how Deadpool emotes, too. It's very cool. um But Deadpool is part of a group of bounty hunters, mercenaries. He ends up getting cancer. um And just trying to save himself, trying to live.
00:41:24
Speaker
He goes through these mutant expert experimentations from Ajax, Francis. um And they fuck with him so bad it did it deforms his whole entire body, his face. um And he ends up getting the power of regeneration, agility. He also gets the power of fourth wall breaking. um All of this stuff starts happening. And he goes out for revenge because Francis fucks with him so much. um Explodes this whole entire facility that turned him into Deadpool. And the whole entire movie is him going after Francis. He loves chimichangas. And also the movie is, ah who doesn't? Chimichangas are awesome. And the whole entire movie is Wade and Vanessa's love story. I think they did a great job. Probably, if you're talking about comic book movies, um probably the one of the best, better love stories, the way it plays out from beginning to end of this movie.
00:42:16
Speaker
um And the final battle of this he finally meets up with Francis Francis Kidnaps Vanessa and the final black battle takes place on a shield helicopter carrier Obviously at the time they weren't part of the MCU, but if you look at it, it has the same turbines It has everything it's just in that junkyard, but it takes place on the shield heli caric helicopter carrier um Deadpool ends up winning Francis ends up kept getting killed we think Vanessa and him embrace Um, she slaps him a few times for leaving. Um, great, great movie. Love this movie. Changed everything. Like we say, a Dark Knight changes everything. Logan changed everything. This changed everything too. Especially in the R rated realm of comic book movies. Um, cute humor, comedy as well. Um, after credits scene, we see a Ferris Bueller spoof. We see Deadpool coming out with a big bathrobe.
00:43:08
Speaker
And then the very end of the movie teases cable in the sequel. We'll get into that in a few minutes 85% on Rotten Tomatoes 90% audience. Everybody loved this. I think the first week it came out I saw it twice in the theater um The reason why this movie is so high up in people's list 58 million dollar budget. No budget looked great 782 million dollar box office. This was a huge success for the studio and um After Days of Future Past was huge success for them too, they brought this budget down, made a ton of money, they realized, wow, if we make good X-Men movies, we make good spin-off movies, we could actually make money. and This is a money-making franchise for us, and of course they greenlit the sequel right away.
00:43:50
Speaker
um highest grossing film in the X-Men franchise by the way, highest grossing R-rated film at that time. I do have the list here, I wanted to go over it. um this was This is the list as of now. um Deadpool 2 ended up winning the box office, we'll get into that in a few, but the top right now is Joker. Oppenheimer is second on that list of of the top highest grossing R-rated films. but um So overall, first movie, 4.5 out of 5 for me. I loved it. um Loved it a lot.
00:44:21
Speaker
uh... love this character something at the time i didn't know much about that for a not sure if you knew much about me there but now i do very yeah so now the video games the video games in the xbox but you have to be able to play that until literally after this will be able to work back and they really want to have some seven rak there you're listening to back and bought it used nearly i think they re-released it's only a on the on the news and you can buy it i think you can buy it on like play position or whatever xbox home sort So, two years two years later, May 18th, 2018, we get Deadpool 2 The Safety.
00:45:02
Speaker
i'll be coming for your love okay I think, after watching these two back-to-back this week, this movie has a lot more heart than people give it credit for. It's right there on par with the first movie. A lot of people complain about Vanessa being killed off, spoiler in the very beginning. You can get spoilers, fuck it. Vanessa, of course, his love interest, killed off in the beginning of the movie, but it gives him the rage to go through the rest of the movie and try to, by the end, you kind of get redemption of this, too. We'll get into it in a minute, but um this came out May 18, 2018. The original cast all returns. um Tim Miller drops out um because he wants to do a Terminator movie. Dark Fate ended up being a failure. we'll get in We're not gonna get into that.
00:45:47
Speaker
But David Leech comes in, he directed John Wick before this. um Since this he's directed Bullet Train and Fall Guys, so he's done some great action movies. um But he directed it this this time. um Additions to the cast. Julian Denison as Russell. he's He names himself Fire Fist. He's a young mutant who's being tortured in an orphanage. and The only other movie I saw him in, Wilder People. Uh, with Sam Neill. I can't remember when this came out, directed by Taeko Watiti. He was great in that movie. Um, that's the only other movie I've ever seen him in.
00:46:21
Speaker
um and The other edition of this cast was Josh Brolin as cable um Handed two of the after credits of Deadpool one. I thought now this of course is in 2018 so we've already seen Josh Brolin in a Marvel movie the biggest Marvel movie of endgame and and The Avengers and all that so we know Infinity war so we already know he's huge or ever actually right around this time 2018 wasn't infinity war so he had two Marvel movies in at the top of the box office in that month alone. um But we see Yokeo, who is Nagat-sanic teenage warhead's girlfriend. um Her and Deadpool have a very cool childish-like friendship. um But it takes the fourth wall breaks even further, because now they go deeper into the MCU, because now you have Thanos in your movie. You can make jokes about Thanos and and Cable. He mentions calling him Thanos. I really expect the not-rolling to be in this movie next week. I do. expect him to be We're gonna talk about that then, right? You're right about that, yep. But there's a tons also a ton of Logan references, because this was out a year after Logan. So Wolverine had died.
00:47:31
Speaker
In the very beginning, we see a music box of Logan dead at the end of Logan with a stick shoved through his heart, and he's playing it as he's trying to kill himself. But like I said, at the beginning of the movie, Vanessa is killed. Deadpool doesn't want to live any more in the world without her. um That's kind of where the movie is. He's kind of trying to find his place in the world um The film intro is a new song by Celine Dion recorded just for this film um And using time travel cable tries to stop a future dystopia to stop a young kid Russell From becoming evil and bringing death and it went up end up killing his wife and daughter, but he's an evil mutant in the future um We see Russell now he's just a young brat big fat kid
00:48:20
Speaker
um And other cameos we see in this movie, the very beginning of the movie, um Deadpool is injured after this explosion, goes to the X-Mansion, so us like Colossus saves him, brings him to the X-Mansion to heal. um He ends up walking around and he's like, why can't the studio have four more X-Men in the the movie and in in hiding in the background? is the cast of X-Men Apocalypse, which was filming at the same exact time. yeah um We see McAvoy, we see everybody in that in that scene very quick, and they shut the door on them before they for Deadpool sees them. We also see a quick, and you miss it, you don't even know who one of the characters is, you see Alan Tudyk.
00:48:58
Speaker
You know him, but you see a prosthetic Matt Damon as rednecks in this movie. I thought that was great. um And we also see a young Legion from the FX show Legion. And do you ever watch Legion? That's why I brought this up. You ever watch that show with about Professor Xavier's son? I hear it's good. ah That was on FX right before the acquisition. I heard the first couple of seasons is really good of that. um But yeah at the Essex school, Essex school by the way named after Mr. Sinister, which I i think was gonna have a part in this, ended up having a part in New Mutants, which we're gonna talk about in a minute. But Deadpool's task is to save Russell from Cable. Deadpool creates a new team, X-Force, based off the comic book X-Force. He recruits Zazie Beets as Domino.
00:49:44
Speaker
Terry Cruz's Bedlam. Lewis Tan as Shatterstar. Lewis Tan was in the new Mortal Kombat. I think he played... What's his name from Mortal Kombat? What's his name? Was he Liu Kang? Liu Kang, yeah. He was a lead-up. Was that Liu Kang that was a lead in that movie? I can't remember. It's been so long. But he's in the news. He's a new one. I know that. Bill Skarsgard as Zeitgeist. He's kind of like an acid vomit type of character. comedian Rob Delaney as Peter who was the comedy relief of this very very dry humor um I can't wait to see him in the sequel I know he's gonna be in Deadpool Wolverine as a car salesman that works with Deadpool has been great
00:50:24
Speaker
And we see a quick cameo of Brad Pitt as the Vanisher, who was an invisible person until he's until he dies. And we can actually see his face. Now this is a favorite of Ryan Reynolds. It was a final shot of this whole entire movie during post-production. Ryan ended up doing a cameo in Bullet Train as a cameo payback for for Brad Pitt doing a cameo in this, so that was awesome. um juggernaut we see for the very first for for another another version of juggernaut in this movie um we already saw was that vinnie jones played him in and the last stand um this was a cgi fully like fully and and encapsulated what you would see in the comic book of juggernaut big huge menacing person probably eight nine feet tall um voiced by ryan reynolds by the way
00:51:12
Speaker
But the Juggernaut theme, I forgot to clip it for the show, but the Juggernaut theme is awesome. It's a Juggernaut. Fuck you Juggernaut. And the fight scene with him at Colossus looked fantastic. Great. But towards the end of the movie, Deadpool saves the future by stopping Russell. um Changes his path. And and Cable ends up ends up ah saving Cable's family. The teddy bear that Cable saves doesn't have his daughter's blood on it anymore. It's nice and clean, so he knows he saved it. um But in doing so, he sacrifices himself and Deadpool dies. Ends up going to, quote unquote, heaven.
00:51:51
Speaker
meets up and in with ah Vanessa in a slow Deadpool dying sort of fashion, meets up with Vanessa one last time. Aha's take on me, the Unplugged version, which I played at the beginning of this, plays during this. That's one of my favorite one of my favorite things in the movie ever. ah she But she tells him it's not his time. But before he sent him back to Earth, um I don't know why before he sent back to Earth, um Cable ends up using his time wash to turn time back, and he gets sent back and into, but right before he dies, right before this battle, and de and Cable puts something in there and where he ends up being shot and killed, he ends up putting something there to block that shot from being killed, um so he can live over his last few moments, redo it, and change it, and survive, and that's what ends up happening.
00:52:41
Speaker
um Towards the end of the movie. He finally has his new family um This brand new family and I know that plays out in the sequel next week. We'll talk about that more but ah So Deadpool wins everybody wins Colossus ends up putting a ends up killing juggernaut or putting something up his ass like a it was like a telephone line or something and That was weird. However, Deadpool wins. So, the mid-credits scene, Deadpool gets nuggets on a TJH warhead to fix Cable's time watch, which was which was destroyed. Starting a chain of time travel events that play out during the credits. This is awesome. um He ends up going back to not only chain Deadpool's past mistakes, he ends up bringing back Vanessa. She is saved. He ends up saving Peter.
00:53:29
Speaker
from the wood chipper that kills him. Oh, by the way, X-Force all killed within the first five minutes of them debuting. Ends up bringing back Peter, though. um But, in epic fourth-wall fashion, he goes back into Ryan Reynolds' life, his own life, and starts killing stuff in his own personal life, including killing Ryan as Reynolds, reading the script for Green Lantern, um he close like He kills a closed mouth Wade Wilson from the climax of Wolverine Origins. um It tells Wolverine, look, eventually you're going to hang out the claws. And that's going to make a lot of people very sad. But one day your pal Wade is going to ask you to get back in the saddle again. And when he does, say yes. Dun dun dun to be continued. Now that was in the extended version. Also in the extended version, he goes back to kill baby Hitler. Because there's a joke throughout the movie of him talking about killing baby Hitler.
00:54:19
Speaker
But he can't kill a child. He ends up like cradling him and he's like, he'll come back later with cable because cable loves killing kids. That's the whole entire movie. I'm trying to kill a kid. So very cool. Very awesome movie. your Budget jumped up double on this for 110 million dollars. 785 million dollar box office right around the same as the first one 325 million in North America alone um Beat up the first movies records for highest our rated at the time highest x-men movie at that time as well 84% of rotten tomatoes and rotten tomatoes 85% audience score right around the same as the first movie um Later on that year. I don't know if you saw this or not. but There was a once upon a Deadpool movie It was ah a PG-13 version of this movie
00:55:05
Speaker
where they filmed intros with a kidnapped Fred Savage being held in the bedroom from the Princess Bride. um And Deadpool was telling him stories, reading him the book from the Princess Bride. Telling him the stories around Deadpool 2. I thought that was funny. Of course it was a PG-13 cut. This was also right around the time where the rumors of the acquisition from from Disney were coming along. So they're kind of testing the waters to see if this could work in a PG-13 environment. because we weren't sure if we're gonna get an R-rated version of a sequel for this movie or not. And then 2019 happened and the Fox acquisition happens.
00:55:40
Speaker
Deadpool the one Fox property that Bob Iger and Kevin Feige announced will be brought back untouched I'm not rebooted in Ryan Reynolds returning sticking with the R rating and ah Later on last year two years ago Hugh Jackman announced that he's joined in the film and will have an MCU debut for the two most popular x-men movie characters the closing of one door and while opening another. and We'll talk about that next week with Deadpool and Wolverine, but before we get into the news, I wanted to
New Mutants Production Challenges and X-Men Franchise
00:56:11
Speaker
bring this up. I did do this on Letterboxd this week. I mentioned it to you in Knit Message. I don't know if you got to it or not, but I'm gonna give you my ranking of the X-Men movies. But before I get into this, there is one X-Men movie I hadn't watched yet.
00:56:25
Speaker
and that was New Mutants. For obvious reasons, this New Mutants movie was was had a lot of problems with it. Number one, it didn't have any post-production. It didn't have any and reshoots because this is right during the Fox acquisition from Disney, so they didn't want to give any more money into it. So the movie was what it was. There's nothing added into it. I know Mr. Sinister was going to play a huge part in this. it was All the Essex Corporation was all involved in this, and Logan It was all connected, but didn't have a chance to to bridge those gaps. So I ended up watching New Mutants. Overall, I wasn't as upset with it as I thought it was going to be. um Not the best movie by far, but um overall for X-Men movies, it definitely wasn't the worst. The worst X-Men movie on my list
00:57:14
Speaker
by far is Dark Phoenix. um I don't know if you agree with that or not. Dark Phoenix just took everything with the James McAvoy X-Men universe and ended it in a bad note, killed off characters, and reminded me a lot of Last Stand but in worse ways. But yeah, number 13 for me was Dark Phoenix. Number 12 for me was The New Mutants, just because I felt like it was an unfinished story. um That wasn't that movie's fault, the creator's fault. I think that was more of If they had a chance to go back and do a research for that movie, I think it would have done better. I didn't mind it. I liked those characters that they debuted in New Mutants. I wanted to see more of that. Number 11 for me. Last stand, X-Men. I hated this movie when I saw it in theater for obvious reasons. The very beginning of this movie, they killed Cyclops. In the middle of the movie, they killed Professor Xavier. This Phoenix saga did not play out the way you wanted it to in this movie.
00:58:10
Speaker
um This was so bad, but the problem with this movie is you go back and you watch Days of Future Past. This could go up higher in the list if you watch them back to back like that because everything was kind of retconned that you didn't like about that movie. But we'll get into that in a minute. Number 10 for me, X-Men Apocalypse. I wanted to love this movie so much with the character design of Apocalypse. So bad. yeah The best part of this movie was the was the Weapon X program and actually seeing Wolverine in the full weapon Weapon X helmet and him being being feral and trying to kill the X-Men. I thought that was great. Also seeing Nightcrawler back. I liked that kid that played Nightcrawler this time around.
00:58:52
Speaker
um Number nine Wolverine origins. I love this movie in the theater I know the problems with it didn't like the way they treated gambit or Deadpool But wolf right like I love the history of Wolverine the whole beginning sequence of this where they show him in the 1800s as a child killing his father and then showing him going through war going through World War two and Civil War. I liked that whole entire beginning sequence of the movie, but the rest of it was kind of, eh. Number eight for me, The Wolverine, set in Japan. um Silver Samurai was the villain. Yukio was his love interest. Yeah, like I think they're kind of very, yeah. unless is same as mine but those two would flip off
00:59:36
Speaker
yeah Number seven for me, I know this is controversial for some people, but first class. um I have some problems with first class. There's a lot of it I like. um But I think I'm just so in love with the singer Bryan Singer cast at that time It's hard for me to get past that by the time that today's a future past I was more involved more more invested into that into those characters But by the time first class came out um Like Kevin Bacon was a great villain villainous the Bastion Shaw I love seeing the origin of Magneto I think Michael Fassbender in a lot of ways does a better magneto than in milk in Malcolm Yeah in the column, but
01:00:16
Speaker
But overall number seven for me now we're getting into the top six of these movies now These are all all epic movies in my opinion. These are what gave me love for comic books, especially number five But number six is Deadpool 2 Deadpool 2 we've already talked about a great movie number five for me this movie reinvigorated my childhood came out in 2000 the first after blade the first kind of touch of comic book movies in cinema would be X-Men, the very first X-Men from Bryan Singer. The only reason it's number five is because the the next four movies are better. um Number four, the first Deadpool. Number three, um for the beginning of this movie alone, this movie deserves to be number three, but the way they depicted Nightcrawler and X-Men was fucking incredible. The whole scene of him going through
01:01:12
Speaker
the White House, getting into the Oval Office, um putting the sword next to the President, great. um The story of magnet Magneto versus for Xavier, everything about X2 was awesome, and seeing that in the theater was great. um But the next two movies are just better, that's why it's number three. Days of Future Past, number two for me. um I love everything about this, what it did to retcon everything that happened at X-Men The Last Stand. um and and showing the future characters better off.
01:01:43
Speaker
I also progressed the newer characters the last the first-class characters better, too um That movie just worked on every level finally seen the sentinels for this trip first time we saw this last week, but number one Probably voted by a lot of people the best comic book movie between that and and Dark Knight Logan um Like we mentioned it last week. The movie is just it's just fucking fucking awesome um Logan is just up there high high caliber comic book movie. Everybody's kind of mimicking that now. There's a lot of mimic points in movies. Dark Knight was one. This is one. Deadpool is one as well, where where every movie, of course Guardians of the Galaxy was too. They're all movies that had been mimicked since then to try to make the movies like that because they were that good. But Logan is definitely number one for me. How was your list? About the same same as what I said there? Rather the same? Yeah, pretty much the same. The only thing, like I said, I would switch origins and Wolverine. um Very interchangeable, you're right.
01:02:43
Speaker
the the They didn't fuck up gambit, but I was like, whatever. Um, yeah, I was a little worried that you'd put deadpool number one, um, over Logan. Um, but yeah, one to one and two, those are definitely, it's definitely Logan and Davis feature pass one or two. Um, the reboot there with fast bender and McAvoy probably would be a little bit higher. I think you have it perfectly placed, but it would have been a little higher if I carried more about the other people in the team.
01:03:33
Speaker
Yeah. Um, but outside of fast, better McAvoy, I didn't really care about anyone else. Yeah. And Kevin bacon, of course. Um, but they did such a fantastic job. I might have that slightly higher, but overall your list is pretty much spot on. Um, Yeah, I thought so. I thought you could probably change around, but it's pretty much nails there. I will say the biggest surprise I had was New Mutants. That's what I was going to say for me. I was surprised. I thought that would be number like lower, but yeah. You thought that'd be the last one? Yep. Yeah. Still better than, I think it's still better than Apocalypse and I think it's better than
01:04:06
Speaker
maybe three maybe maybe I fuck I hate apocalypse no I mean not apocalypse I'm sorry Dark Phoenix that was bad that was bad um but like as we talk about these movies um and there's so many you can kind of uh do this now is the x-men franchise in general is similar to like the the star wars franchise yeah um to where there's like the the high end is really high the middle of the middle and the low end is just absolute shit Very well. They're very similar in that way and they're two franchises that we both love to death. when We probably think higher of them than the average fan would because we love them so much. yeah i mean Overall, I enjoy pretty much all the X-Men movies except for Phoenix and X3.
01:04:53
Speaker
Those are both just such... Honestly, the Dark Phoenix storyline, they keep trying to force this into into the movies because it's like one of the most well-known storylines, but honestly the storyline in general is kind of overrated. yeah It works in- I've never read the books, but I've read, I've read, I know all about it, like I've seen a million things about it. And I think it just, it's a, it's a story that works so well as a comic story. And I don't think it's easy to transition into a live action. Well that's, that's why it worked in 90, that's why it worked in 94 on the animated series, because the animated series was so close to the comic books. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. That's the only version of it I actually like seen, but like I know the whole story. I just think that maybe it's, it just works so well as a comic book.
01:05:40
Speaker
andtuary And to and to adapt to live actions very difficult I did I will say the beginning of it where they explored a little bit in x2 I did like that especially at the time. Yeah, but they felt they fumbled it on That's why that those two movies are in the bottom of my list because they also one other thing is Sansa Stark was just a hot name at the time, and I think she's a fucking terrible Jean Grey. Yeah, horrible. And brings down all the movies she's in as Jean Grey. Even though I love her in Game of Thrones, I just think she's a terrible Jean Grey. Yeah. Being the lead of that movie did not help that movie at all. Yes. It exploited her lack of acting. Like it's fine on Game of Thrones because there's fucking 700 characters, yeah so you can kind of hide. Like, same in the middle of Clark, she's not a good actress either, but you can hide within everyone else. You're right about that, we saw that in Secret Invasion. You're right about that. i think up We saw that in Secret Invasion and Terminator. Terminator, yeah. Really, the only thing she's been good in is Game of Thrones and that's because you can hide within everyone else that's on the show. Yep. Yep, so we are now six days away. We're going to talk about that full spoiler review next week, Deadpool and Wolverine, but until then, let's get into the news.
01:07:00
Speaker
And it's not a new time on the trailer roundup. A couple of trailers we're going to talk about. Monday we saw Stranger Things and we saw a quick glimpse of them filming season 5 of Stranger Things, yes, big 5 right there in the picture. ah Season 5 of Stranger Things, final season. I'm very excited about this. The last season was so good. I'm hoping that they can hit the landing on this show. um But yeah, looking forward
Tributes to TV and Pop Culture Icons
01:07:26

to that. Also saw the first trailer for Terminator 0 coming on Judgment Day on August 29th. Looks great. the animmate and The animation looks good. Of course, the anime inspires.
01:07:38
Speaker
Excited for that. um Saw another trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice coming out on my birthday in a couple months. um Kind of mixed on that as far as I'm not sure how excited I am for it. I like the first Beetlejuice movie. um Looks good. I think Michael Keaton's a great, great Beetlejuice. It's not not on top of my list of movies this year, but um does look good. um I'm willing to see it. I know you're not a big, huge fan of of Tim Burton. burton Yeah, but we'll see. But that was it for trailers. Rest in peace to Bob Newhart. I don't know if he used to watch Nick at night back in the day, of the Newhart show. Used to be on in the 80s, early 90s, but Bob Newhart was a funny motherfucker. I never watched the Bob Newhart show that was on in the 70s. A lot of people loved that show, but I watched Newhart, and that show was funny. um Of course, a lot of people now know him as
01:08:33

the elf and elf who is a father, a buddy, the elf of the holiday movie. But he died this week, 94 years old. He also had a run in Big Bang Theory. It was kind of like a Mr. Wizard-like character that Sheldon Cooper and all the guys worshipped. So rest in peace to him. Also rest in peace to Dr. Ruth Westheimer. A lot of people from our childhood died this week. We're going to get into it. She's the first one. um She died at 96 years old um She was a member of the Israeli army um i've Ended up coming to America hosting her radio show and talk show talking about sex ah Brought it to the American lexicon without having to be had that weird awkwardness She talked about it, frankly
01:09:17
Speaker
and to the point as like ah like a doctor would. She ended up becoming a TV sex guru. She died at 96 years old this week. um Also, rest in peace to Shannon Doherty. Never watched an episode of Beverly Hills 90210. However, I know her from it. You know her from Mall Rats. Huge in our life from Mall Rats, of course. Shannon Doherty, huge friend of Kevin Smith. He did a podcast a couple months ago. Rest in peace to her. rest in peace to Richard Simmons another iconic part of our childhood we saw him in infomercials we saw him I saw him on late night television later on in life I saw him on Howard Stern I've seen him everywhere but he was in our life everywhere the infomercials he does but it's incredible I don't after after this happened I really hope Paulie doesn't play him because I I
01:10:10
Speaker
Richard Simmons just has that unique eccentric... um ah he just he just sounded he just He just sounded so... so funny. ah Personality on this guy was amazing, incredible, infectious. um He was funny on the late night shows with Letterman. He was a fitness coach. He did a lot for fitness in the 80s. Sweatin' to the oldies. um he had those He was one of the first to have the deal and meal where he had to be responsible for your for eating. um he did a lot about like He did a lot for gym and class. He did a lot for
01:10:47
Speaker
having healthier school lunches, so he did a lot of stuff. how does he die they say um They said that he fell a couple days before he died. um Didn't go to the hospital, get checked out. So that's kind of where it happened with Bob Saget too. They said that he he died, but he was only 76 years old. He went, he went reckless about 10 years ago. I went out of the public eye and just started hitting his mansion. is This is where he's been for 10 years. Just recently, in the last three, four months, he started going back up on social media and started posting a lot. Rest in peace to Richard Simmons. I'll always remember him. is laugh His his funny moments on late night television were great. A lot of guest star appearances on shows. He's just fantastic. and ah Rest in peace to our childhood.
01:11:35
Speaker
lot in A lot of the couple weeks a lot of people from our childhood have passed away. Memorable as they are. Richard Simmons was definitely one of them. but um Let's get into the rest of the news. The weekend box office last week, Despicable Me 4, with $44 million. The Long Legs, $22 million, and Inside Out 2, with $20 million.
Animated Movies and Music Industry Drama
01:11:55
Speaker
Also, Inside Out 2, leaf silver, Super Mario Brothers, now becoming the second biggest animated movie ever. um That's pretty incredible. um I have not seen the first one or the second one. I'm going to watch it when it comes out on digital. I have the first one. They're excellent. I've heard they're really good. Yeah, they talk about the psyche of a person. like they the every Everybody represents an emotion in a person's brain. So that's right up my alley. So I kind of want to see that. so um Jack Black canceled Tenacious Detour. I don't want to get into the Trump shooting. i don't hate I hate fucking politics. We don't talk about it on the podcast much.
01:12:36
Speaker
um I don't even want to get into my full opinion on this, but I'll just talk about it. jack Kyle Gass made a joke. He was getting a birthday cake. It was on his birthday. um And he made a joke about he wished that the the assassin didn't miss Trump last week. um
01:12:55
Speaker
Yeah, I don't want to get into it. not our it's not our It's not our job to get political. Who the fuck is Kyle Gass? He is a member of Tenacious D. It's him and Jack Black. So, isn't that Jack Black? They've been friends. No, they're not. They're not brothers. Yeah, they've just been. They've just been friends. And he's him and his brother. No, he's they've been. suspiciousious They've been. It's just the other guy in tenacious state. You're right. The other guy. Jack Black had to stop and cancel everything because he is the star. You can't have your reputation in your and your star power diminished because of one person. So he had canceled the whole entire tour.
01:13:31
Speaker
Kyle Gass ended up getting his representation fired him so he has no he has no manager, he has no publicist. um and It was a big huge shit show and and Jack Black had no choice but to distance himself from it because he actually has a Hollywood career that he has to kind of take care of. so um Other than that I don't want to get into it because I have my thoughts on it but like I will say this there's a lot of double standards in Hollywood Comedians, musicians, can say a lot. Don't have the repercussions that some people do and some like some people don't. and It just depends on who the person that you're talking about is. A Trump supporter, whatever. Not saying I'm not condemning it because being shot, taking trying to take someone's life, being a shooter, political shit should never get that far.
01:14:29
Speaker
Death is not worth anything, no matter how psycho this guy was. That's not the answer for anything, but what whatever party you belong to, Republican, Democrat, independent, no matter what. But there's a lot of double standards as far as comedians and music. Go. We're in deciding where that cancel line is. And it just seems like nobody can really figure out what should be canceled. Should Dave Chappelle's be canceled for making fun of trans people? Should this be canceled for this? Should this be canceled for that? Should Kyle Gasp be canceled for this? It just seems like the double standard is so mixed on everything right now. It sucks.
01:15:08
Speaker
but Yeah, i hate flip I hate politics, I do. But I hate cancel culture even more. I hate the PC culture even more. I don't even want to get into it, it's just pissing me off. Beastie Boys sued Chili's. And one of their commercials ended up paying playing sabotage to the remaining members of Beastie Boys sued them. um Not sure what the lawsuit is calling for. $150,000 in damages, not much. um
Upcoming Series and Season Challenges
01:15:34
Speaker
but give false impression the beastie boys would promote the restaurant um so yeah um We finally see pictures of what we mentioned all earlier, Dexter the origin Original Sin, a 10 episode prequel s series set 15 years before the events of Dexter. um We see the first member first pictures of the cast,
01:15:53
Speaker
um We see Dexter on at work with one of his very first victims on the table wrapped in Saran Wrap. I don't know the actor's name who's playing Dexter. Kind of looks like a younger version of him. We see Christian Slater playing ah playing his father. um We see the first picture of Deb. um We see another picture of... either a electur yeah she's been Really? I would see a picture of Christian Slater in police garb. But the official not synopsis reads, Set in 1991 Miami, ah Dexter original sin follows Dexter as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. um When his bloodthirsty urges can't be ignored any longer, des Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father Harry, ah he adopts a code designed to find help find him
01:16:40
Speaker
Well, to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting a law enforcement radar. um This is a particular challenge for Dexter as he begins a forensic internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. So we're kind of wondering where this goes. So this is the beginning of everything. This is Dexter coming right out of college being trained. Yeah, we perfect. week to week weekly yeah Yeah, I can't. Yeah, I can't wait for this to come out mainly because I want to see how they go about it. And if it's, if it was worth doing to begin with, like at the end of the series, we'll know if they should have done it or not. Um, and if it, it won't take away from the original series because that'll always be there. But if it was worth doing or not, um, so far, I like what I see. Um, Slater does look a little bit like a ah younger Harry. Um, so yeah.
01:17:29
Speaker
We'll ah hopefully get this out this year or early next year. Yeah. Um, so Dr. Who talked about it a few times on the show. Um, I started watching, I think about three or four episodes into the new season. I haven't finished it yet. That's probably why it's having a lot of problems because I think it's, some people are having the same problems I'm having with it. Um, but it's not doing too well in Disney plus. And everybody behind the scenes is saying that it could be bad news and it could be acts. They already planned it for a second season. I think it may have already been filmed for Disney+. plus um But Disney+, when it went to Disney, um they ended up in the budget. Disney's paying for a bigger, higher budget to show it on their show. um But that deal is and up probably coming to a close at the end of season two and not being picked up again. um And Disney may be canceling it because the ratings are just maybe way too low. I don't think it's what they expected.
01:18:20
Speaker
They're saying it could be the biggest Hollywood failure failure one of the biggest Hollywood failures ever for the amount of money they put into it See it's so popular in the UK a lot of people love it in the UK and A lot of people in the united in the United States are kind of iffy on it, because it's it's a UK program. It's a lot of UK influence over there, but it hasn't really picked up like it has over there, of course. but I
Nintendo's Legacy and New Releases
01:18:49
Speaker
liked it. I liked this new Doctor. I liked the way the series was playing out, but for some reason, i just I didn't finish it. I don't know if I just lost interest. I stopped watching it probably about a month and a half ago. but um That sounds like um Dexter got involved.
01:19:02
Speaker
Well, it does have a lot to do with Dexter, you're right, it does. But, uh... I'm blaming... as I'm blaming the pod... I'm blaming the but podcast for for my particular... My particular stance, but the rest of America. um ah What's your excuse? Yeah, but it may it may happen um yeah I don't it'll probably come back to BBC and and BBC again, but It's just the budget went up so high to that This show is known for being the campy Can't be sets very cheesy looking villains um Cheaply made back in the day. They look even worse So they probably will go back to that form factor later on if they do end up leaving Disney But um speaking of Deadpool and Wolverine x Xbox announced a cheeky controller Coming out with a big butt of Deadpool on the back of it. This looks pretty fucking cool It's Deadpool's costume pretty much in the back of the controller is a big this is real is a big butt of Deadpool It looks awesome
01:20:02
Speaker
um The texture of the controller looks just like the Deadpool costume, designed by Deadpool himself, just like the popcorn bucket. That's an Xbox exclusive. um Speaking of video games, the Switch is now the longest running Nintendo console without being replaced. um It has been around for 7 years since it came out in 2017. um online Yeah, it hasn't been replaced. Hasn't been a pro version of it yet. um There's an OLED version. But um the only ah the only other one that's went out without was 6 years for the Wii and 6 years for the original and NES, which was around for a long time too.
01:20:37
Speaker
um Five years for the SNES and 64 and GameCube and the Wii U I didn't know the Wii U was around for five years. But yeah, yeah long longevity I think one of the things is Nintendo no longer has any competition within their market I'm not saying that PlayStation, I mean, basically PlayStation and Xbox aren't really competition to what Nintendo is doing. oh Whereas with the original Nintendo, you eventually had the Sega, which also appeared with the SNES. Yeah. Of course, PlayStation 64 had to go up against the Playstations yeah also, but like now Nintendo's kind of distanced themselves to be like just that other alternative console for people that like a lot of people will have an Xbox and a Switch or a PS5 and a Switch.
01:21:21
Speaker
So at this point, they don't have to rush into doing anything else. I mean, they rushed with the Wii U. They rushed hard with that. And they did fail miserably. I enjoyed the Wii U when I got it. I thought it was it was a nice stepping stone to what we eventually got with the Switch. Yeah. But yeah, Nintendo does their own thing now. They don't have to worry about being like third in the market. And I mean, of course, the Switch sold so well over Covid that Nintendo just makes money, hand over fist with that console anyways. There's no need to rush into anything new. like They came up with the perfect balance of what they were working forever with a portable device ye and of a home device all in one. It was great. I love the Switch. It's a great console. We got one another poster for the Crow coming out on April 23rd with ah Bill Skarsgard. He's holding a samurai sword, so take that as you will.
01:22:11
Speaker
Um, 24. Have you ever watched 24 with Keith or Southern? Okay. I wanted to talk to you about this. Uh, yes I have. Have you? Uh, I've seen one episode and I know it's every episode is an hour. Every season is 24, right? 24 hours of a day. Every episode is one hour um within that day. um yeah And I saw this movie in development, and I don't know why it's in development, because that takes away from the whole gimmick of the 24. I think it should be set in the world of 24 million, but then there's nothing to distinguish this from like another boring movie or whatever, Mission Impossible, like anything like Reacher. There's nothing to distinguish it. It's just going to be another
01:22:51
Speaker
movie like that within the genre. So why even make it? I think it should be set in the 24 universe, maybe with like references to keep for someone and just make it a dope action movie. But the 24 gimmick works perfectly for the show, which I think that show, like we talked about, like addictive shows like Dexter, when I finished up, so I have to get to the next one. This is very similar to that. Um, I'll probably never go back and watch it. But the first season of 24 is one of my favorite seasons of TV ever. ah It's just, it keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire thing. It used to be on Prime, I'm not sure if it still is. I just don't see the point of doing a movie unless it's just set in the universe and maybe Keith or someone does a guest appearance or a cameo or whatever. It's kind of odd to be doing a movie where the gimmick is 24 hours in a day.
01:23:38
Speaker
Like, are they gonna just do, like, a two and a half hour movie that takes place during the 24 hours of the day? Or real-time, two-hour movie. Yeah, like... How's that gonna work? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. You're right. You're right. So I don't know what they're gonna do. Um, and apparently Kiefer doesn't have any involvement at this stage anyway, so he's not gonna be starring in it. Um, but it is the original showrunner doing it, so... I mean, I think he's just kinda going back on, it's an IP he can capitalize on, maybe. But that show's been off the air for... Yeah, what did that show go off the air? 2008? Yeah, it's a while ago. Yeah. Nine, ten? Somewhere around there? Yeah. I don't know how I feel about this. The first three seasons of that show are fucking incredible. Okay.
Streaming Service Changes and Deals
01:24:19
Speaker
Speaking of streaming, speaking of shows, Verizon has a streaming deal with if you order a year of Peacock premium with ads at the newer higher rate of $79.99 per year,
01:24:34
Speaker
For one year, you get a free year of next Netflix Premium, which is $23.99 a month. So that's a big fucking huge deal. That's a good pie. for But for one year, you'll get next next Netflix Premium free for the whole entire year. um if you don't That's it, you have to be in definitely have to be a Verizon customer, I believe. but Yeah, that's ah that's pretty awesome. Peacock is one of the lower end streaming. I think it's like number two or number three behind everything else. but um
01:25:06
Speaker
I like it for, I mean, Psych and I, I go back and watch old wrestling on it, but it's worth it for, like, Psych, for me. Yeah, wrestling, the network, the WWE Network stuff is worth it, too. Is The Office on Peacock? Office is on there. Office, Proctor Wreck, everything NBC Universal is on there. Yes. Warner Brothers Discovery, they just merged what, last year? Already talking about splitting up and the company in half again, this time separating the Warner Brothers Studio And the app from the television networks was TNT TBS Discovery Network. So they're going to talk about dividing those again. um I don't know where that's going to lead this at all. I don't know if the streaming is still going to be like if they're going to have Max including TBS and Warner Brothers stuff from TBS and TNT and Discovery. I don't know how that's going to work. but
01:25:59
Speaker
They're in talks in the beginning stages of that. We'll keep an eye on that in the months to come. A six-part Prince documentary for Netflix has is officially dead in the water after the late artist of states claimed the first cut of the film was filmed with dramatic factual inaccuracies and sensationalized renderings of certain events from his life. Yeah, if I want to see a documentary... Yeah, I want to see a documentary. and I want to see it right. Right. I don't want to see it fucked with. So, especially Prince. Or if they do... like I'm like if you know going into it's like a mocky memory then that's whatever but like we you have Prince as a state who is so protective yeah of Prince same with like a Michael Jackson which is why his fucking nephew is gonna be sorry as Michael Jackson yep with no that chris trust nobody yeah the same say staff perspective you have to do it right yeah you can't
01:26:50
Speaker
do it off the rails and then have people looking up and being like, wait, that didn't really happen. You're right. Disney Plus reportedly developing live channels for MCU, Simpsons, and more. I know a lot of streaming services have this. I know, I think Plex does this. I know one of them does it too, but they have these live 24-hour streaming channels with a play. Pluto TV. Pluto, that's what I was thinking of. Yeah, Pluto TV. Yeah, 24-hour channels on Walking Dead. The original idea of of the wre network before the
01:27:22
Speaker
yeah disriing app is it was gonna be just a tv channel um just whatever was on that that would be their tv channel yeah We've been seeing it for a while, but streaming is becoming cable. We're just doing a full circle around in what it was before. But, uh, yeah. um ah Netflix also rejects the fact that they're gonna be streaming with anything with Macs or with Disney Plus because it already operates on a go-to destination for entertainment. In other words, we have everything you want. Why would we bundle with anything else? We'll just take all the money right now that you're gonna give us. um Netflix are greedy motherfuckers. They're the first ones that went over $20 for a streaming service.
01:28:01
Speaker
Um, and they're also the first ones to charge for 4k viewing for multiple screen viewing. Um, they took out this day. They took this whole streaming wars to a whole other level. Um, and kind of ruined it for everything else. When we had had the Renaissance of streaming a few years ago, but, um, this is the news I was talking about Manny Jackino, Jackito, who plays the, uh, Sif in, uh, in the acolyte, um, slams top gun Maverick for cutting his lines. Tom Cruise is writing stories for Tom Cruise. um I think I read something. He was at a red carpet with Tom Cruise and he and he kind of ignored him and didn't talk to him after he said hello to him, but But yeah, I remember seeing him in talk around Maverick. He had no lines in it I mean just one of the background guys in the in the scenes with ah with him with him and What's his name pal? Yep? Yep, but uh yeah
01:28:53
Speaker
This news I I pissed about this because I love this show second season finally found its footing but halo canceled on Paramount Plus after two seasons being shopped around and Um, but Paramount Plus does not want to put any money. Paramount is trying to save money right now. In fact, they're, they're liquidizing a lot of shows, a lot of things on streaming. Not surprised this happened on there, but this could be shopped around by, um, by Microsoft or whoever, whoever's producing it. But, uh, the show, Liam Schreiber as Master Chief was great. And the second season sucks because
01:29:28
Speaker
It ended at the beginning of Halo 1. What we wanted to see, and we wanted to see the beginning of Halo 1, and we finally saw the very beginning moments of Halo 1, and we're not going to see it play out, hopefully. Hopefully we will, but I don't have high hopes on it. um i I didn't know this was coming out this week. We're going to talk about it a little bit. The Emmy nominations came out for the fall. The Bear, 23 nominations, most nominated nominated comedy series ever in history. Um, broke the Emmy record. Um, previous record was held by 30 rock. Um, but the comedy nominations for a best series, avid elementary, great show, uh, curbing your enthusiasm for its final season.
01:30:07
Speaker
Hacks only murders another great show only murders in the building Reservation dogs, which are here is a good show. I gotta get into it thing. What's it on? Uh hulu? Yeah, it's on FX. It looks like FX yeah in the corner there It is yeah, palm Royale is an Apple TV show That stars Kristen Wiig. I think Carol Burnett's in that too. I can't remember. There's a it's a weird cast. I Looking and down at this graphic you have of the tomato scores, one is not like the others. Yeah. Royale is 54%. Everything else is over 90 to 100. 94% is the lowest one out of the other ones. And what we do with The Shadows, great show too. I've seen the first season of that. That's a great show. um Lead actor in a comedy, Matthew Barry, Matt Barry from What We Do in the Shadows. He's great in a lot of things. Steve Martin, Martin Short from Only Murders, Jeremy Allen, wife from The Bear. He'll probably win.

Um, the lead from reservation docks and Larry Damon for Curb Your Enthusiasm. I wouldn't be surprised if David gets it just as, you know, final season, final goodbye, um, type deal. Um, they do that a lot with, with Emmys. Um, like fucking look at all the ones that Game of Thrones won. People hated that season. So. Lead actress in a comedy IO the leader the lead of the bear. She got one Quinta Bronson from avid elementary Selena Gomez first Emmy nomination ever for an only murder. She's great in that show and Maya Rudolph Kristin wave Jean Smart um Emmy nomination for John Bernethal for his outstanding guest star on the bear. That's awesome
01:31:37
Speaker
That's awesome, yep. And a show I gotta get into, I think you've started watching it, Shogun, on FX. Yeah, it's got subtitles. I have to be in the right mood. I've only seen those two episodes still. I'm gonna watch it in the fall, so why don't we put that down for the fall watch. Okay. The guy who stars in that is in the Mortal Kombat movie we just talked about earlier. But you received the most nominations of any series this year, 25. Most for drama this year, we got The Crown. Fallout great show the gilded age never heard of that the morning show on Apple TV plus ah I don't know what the hell that is I can't read it but Shogun mr. And mrs. Smith with Childish Gambino and the other two I don't know what the what they are cuz I can't read what the titles are I know Gary Oldman is in one of them on Apple TV, and I can't read that the other one is but Fallout
01:32:29

Seventeen Emmy nominations, including drama. ah Walter Goggins earns and um a nomination for a Best Actor in a Drama Series. And The Daily Show, seven nominations for Emmys, Best Animated Series, Bob Berger, Simpsons, X-Men 97, that's why I put that on there. But the top networks for Emmy nominations, Netflix with 107, FX with 93, HBO and Max with 91, Apple TV 72, and then the networks follow. um That's pretty cool for FX being number two of all the MA nominations. That's probably because of the bear, obviously. But yeah, being number two to Netflix is pretty fucking cool. Yeah, Shogun 2. That's right. yeah
01:33:13
Speaker
So yeah, I wanted to bring this up because there's someone here I know you probably would want, but the Hallmark Ornaments were released
Rumors and Announcements in the DCU and Marvel
01:33:20

this week. You can see a Spider-Man swinging from branch to branch, which looks cool. There's a Trash Compactor one with sound effects from Star Wars. Looks awesome. There's a Ghostbusters with a Stay Puff Marshmallow. I know. safe off marshmallow man climbing the the tower the ah the the Skyscraper in New York. We see actually see an Xbox cons console Genesis cons console Nintendo console Super Nintendo console We see a Wolverine we see a Jurassic Park. We see Batman 87 Superman of the Terminator Terminator one looks awesome, too
01:33:56
Speaker
Um, we see a Hulk Hogan one, by the way, Hulk Hogan at the RNC last night. Let's just talk about it very quickly. Him ripping his shirt. It was hilarious. It was hilarious. It was fucking hilarious. Uh, we see an Eddie from stranger things. One, um, Superman one looks awesome and the power ranger one looks awesome too. I love Hallmark ornaments. Can be very pricey and addicting. I think I have like a Dutney 20 of them that go about a decade ago, but We get into the DC and Marvel news and find out final a out the news this week Rumor last week was booster gold could be played by our eternal star Camille Najami um What are your thoughts on this? I kind of know what they are, but what are your thoughts? Gun shot it down Okay, but I did not mind it when I saw it. oh I didn't either
01:34:48
Speaker
I've read a lot of Booster Gold in the last four months. As far as fitting the character, everything except for his look fits the character of Booster Gold. I'd rather it be, I mean, Glenn Powell is my number one for Booster Gold. A lot of people want that. I want Glen Powell or Jack Quaid would also be a pick for me. Those would be my top choice two choices. But as far as the writing team is concerned, because we know who's writing it, oh it's Danny McBride and his crew writing it. So that we know the type of comedy they're going to play into it.
01:35:23
Speaker
know I know a lot more about Booster Gold now than I did a few months ago, and i think I think it would have been a good casting. And I honestly think this casting is all based on, because James Gunn posted about like one year from now, Superman, blah, blah, blah. And he like re-quoted it and said, I'm in, or something like that. And I think people were just kind of speculating and then some fucking rifter on Twitter decided that It was a Brewster Gold casting or something. Something stupid like that is my guess because it like news came out like the next day after he we quoted James Gunn. But I did not mind it at all. He doesn't look like Brewster Gold, but they could easily just give him blonde hair and it'd be completely fine. yeah oh And I think he'd do a good job, but we'll see on Brewster Gold.
01:36:09
Speaker
You'll see on that. Lobo, a character that came out in the mid-90s. Kind of an answer to like Venom at the time and the anti-hero. Rumored to be making his DCU debut in Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow. A movie that's next up in the docket. probably give me jason more right ye so Comic Con, next week we have ah information on a panel for the Penguin. gonna be Colin Farrell coming in the cast of the whole entire movie Matt Reeves part of that as well um Thinking we may get some answers for the movie some some what's going on with the Batman 2 That's gonna be happening next Saturday right before the Hall H panel for For Marvel, which was official. I'm also gonna be having an Gotham ice cream truck
01:36:59
Speaker
ah Promoting the penguin to it's gonna be running around the scene nice During during comic-con next week um speaking of Jack way to the boys. He said he auditioned for Superman he sent in a tape and Did not hear back i hear back I saw that today he's wonderful really good friends with corn spread So I do see him at some point being in the DCU so he would be a great he would have been a great at Jimmy Olsen that's the five years ago and i was like maybe jimmy yeelsson then like later it came out that he said
01:37:39
Speaker
which is funny because he does not I mean, I guess you could bulk up. I mean, corn trout was tiny too, so anything could happen with the power of steroids. I just don't see Jack Quaid as Superman. I see him as somebody else. Yeah. Superman and Lois, a show you're caught up on, correct? New season coming out October 17th, released a new poster for us. He is my favorite live action Superman. Really? Okay, I have to watch that show. He's a really good mix between what we got from Cavill is like he could be a little darker, but also what we got from the classic Chris Reeves. He's a good mix of those two. Plus, Lois in this show is also fantastic. The show itself is just very good, but it looks like this this season's going to be, because they released the teaser, going to be pretty emotional. Spider-Man Noir will feature Nicolas Cage as Ben Riley. Ben Riley is the clone character from the 90s. They're going to be doing that a noir take on that character instead. He'll still have noir look, but he'll have the blonde hair and more look like Ben Riley rather than Peter Parker. I don't know how that's going to work. we'll We'll talk about that shirt in a year from now.
01:38:56

um Sounds like Sean Levy has a pic of Marvel projects and Everybody's kind of pointing it to being x-men Especially after Deadpool Wolverine a lot of high hopes for that movie oh And a lot of people off higher-ups are saying that he did a great job with it. Let's wait till next week to keep our opinion on it, but um Yeah, we'll talk about that all next week when ah when it's call con happens. I'm sure there'll be some announcements ah Speaking of Deadpool and Wolverine these soundtracks called Vanjams. We already talked about Guardians of the Galaxy bringing up these popular song selling soundtracks or in movies and how it kind of started from that movie being a huge part of the lexicon of those movies. But this movie has the same and does the same thing. um the Soundtrack includes Bye Bye Bye from NSYNC.
01:39:41
Speaker
Glamorous by Fergie Iris from the goo-goo dolls power of love Huey Lewis in the news um You belong to me about hasty Klein not the Taylor Swift version um The greatest show by Hugh Jackman from The Greatest Showman. I can't wait to see that play out of the movie. um You're the one that I want from Grease with John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John. um This soundtrack sounds awesome. Good Riddance, Time of Your Life by Green Day. They have a new new song called LFG, Let's Fucking Go. ah It's the theme from Deadpool. So this soundtrack comes out on Tuesday. So I'll be listening to that. Hall H on Thursday.

is going to have at 6.30, they're going to have a ultimate Deadpool and Wolverine celebration of life. What I'm guessing is this is going to be the premiere, Comic-Con premiere of the whole entire movie, played in a Comic-Con. Imagine being at Comic-Con that weekend, having a pass for the four days. you Not only you're going to see this, you have a chance to go to Hollow H, see the Marvel panel, but you can watch the premiere of Deadpool and Wolverine with all of your geek friends. That would be the ultimate fucking party to see this movie. Because you'd all be geeking out and going crazy like we are next week. But um today, big Marvel reveals for Deadpool and Wolverine. Some spoilers. um The first one was Ryan Reynolds posting online a picture of the Slinger Ring. The ring that he uses to go through these portals in the movie. Big difference is they are enhanced with two Infinity Stones.
01:41:18
Speaker
a time stone and a fucking reality stone perfect perfect perfect because of course this is going to be going through time going to be going through realities so this is amazing having this ring sling ring finally showing debuting um I can't wait for this fucking movie we also saw exclusive massive cameos debuted today in this exclusive week one week away trailer for Deadpool movie that released earlier this morning we see the very first glimpse full glimpse of Lady Deadpool comic actor Taylor Swift walk yep yep and we also get the very first look of a character we knew was going to be in this movie but was finally confirmed Laura X 23 talking to Logan in a scene that you did say on the podcast that he was probably talking to Lauren sure enough It was either going to be her or Rogue is how I saw it. Because that's the people he called Kid throughout the X-Men movies. This trailer is the first time I've been really excited for this movie, yeah is after the trailer that came out today. Before I was just, I was looking forward to it because it's a full movie. But this is the first time, because this trailer was like hit emotionally for somebody that dan has Logan so so high in their heart. um Like when he says something along the lines of,
01:42:34
Speaker
I was always the wrong one and then she turns around and says, you were always the wrong one until you were the right one or whatever she says. yeah um yeah That hit me hard. I did. I'm getting emotional thinking about it right now. But I cannot wait for Thursday now before I was just excited because I had the night off work. Hopefully the schedule doesn't come up, so hopefully I'll be joining you. Oh, Kevin, I hope so. So we'll see. yeah But yeah, the way this trailer played out today, it was a love letter to to Wolverine. It showed a lot of clips from Wolverine. The legacy of this character is going to be played throughout the movie, and they played it in this trailer for sure. um And I'm so fucking excited.
Comic-Con Previews and Industry News
01:43:10
Speaker
um We'll talk about this to end the show, but Marvel Studios comic-con plans were revealed. They're going to have a they're gonna have a panel next weekend, 6 p.m. Pacific time on Saturday, so we're going to try to go live right afterwards. We'll see how you're how you are after work. um But they're going to have a one hour, I think a 1 in 15 minutes, haulage panel ah talking about all things Marvel, ah bringing in some cast members, announcing new movies, announcing directors, so we're gonna get some big news next week with Marvel. We're probably gonna get some big so big DC news too, but not as big as next year. um We're gonna get a lot more news next year, but um i wouldn't I wouldn't be surprised if we get some exclusive from James Gunn during some of the DC panels, but what do we can see?
01:43:56
Speaker
um The other thing that happened was there was this hack that happened to Disney. 1.1 terabytes of data was alled was allegedly stolen um and they've and they were blackmailed for this data and it has a lot of information on casting, on future movies, lots of intel from the studios. Nothing has been said. It was it was confirmed on Variety, I believe. but Nothing official, what was in these notes, if it's been leaked to any of it or not, but we'll have to wait and see on that. And finally in news, the biggest news we knew probably was going to be coming was, um this is this is posted on Variety, Hollywood for Reporter, so it's true. Marvel Studios is in talks with the Russo Brothers to come back and direct Avengers 5 and Avengers 6 in Secret War. um They've always said they wanted to do Secret War, it's their own take on it.
01:44:47
Speaker
um They love that comic, they want to come in and do it, so this was no surprise to me that they were coming in for it, but doing 5 and 6 back to back is a surprise. um We already know Candy Dynasty is kind of a put, um so we're going to find out more about that next week, I'm sure. New title, new timeline of everything coming out. I think it would make sense for me you're talking, what, 20 years? If they came out, moved Avengers Secret Wars to 2028. Five years from now? No, four years from now. um That would be the 20 year anniversary of the MCU, and that would be a perfect time to reboot everything if Secret Wars came out in 2028, if they kind of moved everything up.
01:45:22
Speaker
um We already know everything was delayed because of the writer strike last year the actor strikes so That would that be my my prediction first comic-con next week, but we'll get in all our predictions next week We're getting all comic-con next week Deadpool and Wolverine huge week next week um also Purple Rain 40th Anniversary. I'm going to watch that movie this weekend. We're going to talk about that in the soundtrack as well. A lot of iconic songs on that soundtrack. We talked about Prince earlier, how iconic that character of of a character he was um as a musician, as a as a performer, amazing underrated guitarist. We're going to talk about all of that. Spoiler field review of Deadpool and Wolverine. You're going to talk about Cobra Kai if you get into it this weekend yeah tonight.
01:46:07
Speaker
And we're gonna talk all about San Diego Comic Con starts on Wednesday previews We're going to talk about some of the figures and some of the stuff that they debut on on the on the hall We're gonna talk about the early panels, the DC, Marvel, Star Wars, everything. And we're gonna try, try, try to go live Saturday night around 10.30 or so. Even for 20 minutes, half hour, just to time of kind of talk about what was revealed. um And we're gonna take off the week after, but the month of August, we got a 10 year anniversary of a couple of things I wanted to bring up. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 came out 10 years ago. You believe that? Also Robin
01:46:43
Speaker
Robin Williams died 10 years, I remember, because I went to the movie to see Guardians ah for the second time. I think I went with my wife at the time, and Robin Williams had just died that morning. And Robin Williams is a huge part of my life, and we're gonna talk about a retrospective from him as well. Also, I'm going to be revealing Woman of Tomorrow. We're gonna start a comic book review that that month as well. But we'll get into all of that next month. Awesome, that's perfect, because my deluxe edition comes, I think, this week. Excellent. So I'll be able to reread it, and we'll talk about it, perfect. Yep. So yeah, we'll get into all of August next week. We'll talk about a preview for the for the month to come. And of course, show and tell, beginning of the month, and so on and so forth. But ah almost two hours. went oh This is one of the longer one ones we've had in a while. So we had a lot to talk about. So thanks, everybody, for being patient with me for all these for all these weeks talking about the road to Deadpool over rain, because it's been a lot of notes. I'm just happy I don't have to do it anymore. I liked watching that stuff, but the Marvel movies, towards the end, were starting to get a little little jonky. so
01:47:40
Speaker
and We'll talk to everybody next week for our jam-packed show. Peace.
