Dexter Season 7 Wrap-Up and Season 8 Anticipation

00:00:37
Speaker
Everybody got a lot to talk about This is like getting a Christmas to us right now. So a lot of news big huge review So let's get into it what we watched this week start off with Dexter watch 2024 season 7
00:01:08
Speaker
I got done with this on Sunday, Kevin. I didn't want to get into season eight because I knew we were going to take a couple of weeks or a week off. So yep next week I'm going to be catching up on season eight. So I saved it. Cool. I've been digging. I've been itching like a fucking crack fiend trying to figure out what I was going to watch.

Fresh Take on Superman & Lois

00:01:23
Speaker
I do want to, before we get into this, I do want to bring up, I did start watching, I told you, Superman the Lois, I watched the first episode. okay It was very good. Like you mentioned, he is a great Superman. um There's a scene with him in the beginning that you noticed, you that you talked about yesterday when we were when we met up, that yep when he talks about his mother making him his suit at the very beginning of that episode. I love the beginning of that episode because it's not the traditional
00:01:51
Speaker
intro to a character, the origin of a character, all through almost like a side slideshow of his whole entire meeting of Lois, growing up, landing in Smallville, meeting his parents when he was a baby, and growing up in Smallville, finding his superpowers, and ending up working at the Daily Planet, meeting Lois, marrying her, and in this story, they have kids, which is a very rare story in Superman mythosis, and hasn't really been told, maybe in the comic books, but never in live action. lot yeah Yeah, never in live action. so It's very interesting. I'm interested to get into this. Once I finish Dexter, I'll probably get into that. but Euphoria is another show that's on my on my on my algorithm.

Debra's Moral Struggles with Dexter's Actions

00:02:30
Speaker
but um Right now we'll talk about Dexter.
00:02:33
Speaker
um This season is a little bit of the departure from what past seasons were where past season there was one main villain from the beginning to the end and It was always the climax of this show the very last episode was him finding this killer or something happening to this killer like Trinity where something bad happens at the climax then Trinity dies and That is kind of thrown out the window in this there are some stars in it that I want to bring up um We'll get into that in a minute But it's also all about Deborah finding out that Dexter is a serial killer and she's struggling with that morality of his ways of killing um Understands his importance to catching criminals his vigilantism um the the ones that police can't touch and But what what but at what cost is that to his psyche? um and she's having all these moral issues like
00:03:26
Speaker
You're a fucking serial killer. Yup. And she's also having issues with their relationship with his brother and sister and she's also had thought she was in love with them which is a weird thing. I know it's because they were together in real life at this time but she's also putting the pieces together from his past. There's a lot of stuff in the beginning of this season where they go back into old cases from the early season.

LaGuerta's Suspicion and Bay Harbor Butcher Case

00:03:50
Speaker
and Talking about and she's also reluctant to his vigilantism when she's talked about how the ice truck killer was a vigilante and and Stuff in the past and how she was kind of you saw at her face that she kind of like was getting off from that um But she also understood its importance um a a lot of the other characters in the police station didn't understand that like Dokes didn't Batista doesn't a lot of them don't understand how that vigilantism is important ah understanding its importance to cases past cases and
00:04:20
Speaker
um And also in the season LaGuardia now is completely suspicious of Dexter. It's completely suspicious of everything um Of course for the very beginning. She was attached to dokes who died in what season two season three season two And he was he was the he was Everybody thought he was the Bay Harbor Butcher, but it was actually Dexter, that was a whole story.

Ray Stevenson's Impact in Dexter

00:04:44
Speaker
So there's a lot of, going back to that as well, we'll get to that in a minute, but the main star that that came into this season was Ray Stevenson, who just passed last year, he was in Star Wars. um Great actor, great in everything that I've ever seen him in, including this, he's he's great in this, for what we saw, we'll get into that in a minute as well. yeah
00:05:02
Speaker
Seen in the bar though where he goes to the bar and they just show it like afterwards his deckers like looking at the blood Yeah, and like he basically goes into a bar with like one gun and kills like all these mobsters And he thought that he thought the mobsters are gonna take him out. Yeah, he exercise him much to die yeah yeah um So we have a lot of weird different serial killers throughout. Instead of having one major one throughout, like in the beginning of the season, there's this big roided out guy that dresses up like a bull and he takes women.

Dexter and Hannah: A Complex Relationship

00:05:31
Speaker
The guy from Daredevil. Yes, yep. The only big Daredevil suit, yep.
00:05:34
Speaker
um he ends up He ends up getting him, catching him, and he throws him into an incinerator at a morgue, which I thought was a great thing, but he also throws his slides in there. um yeah Mainly because he doesn't want the evidence anymore, but it's also a way of him kind of burning his past. it is so It's a weird kind of moral way. but Symbolic, yeah. Symbolic, that's what I mean, yeah. In this season, Dexter falls in love with another serial killer, Hannah, who was played by Yvonne, I can't remember her last name, but she was in Chuck. She was the lead in Chuck with that's That's where she was from. Gotcha. that's what that's She was on that show for like six seasons, and then she did Dexter. I didn't know that. So yeah, they they're kind of have a ah on and off, mostly on, off towards the end. And I'm guessing she comes back for the next season too. um But Deb wants justice, kind of.
00:06:26
Speaker
because of these cases that aren't getting solved. So she kind of just sort of embraces Dexter's killer instinct when the police work fails. So she is reluctant to do it, but she's like, this is the only way this case is going to be solved.

Deb's Dilemma: Using Dexter's Skills

00:06:41
Speaker
And then she starts using it almost like a hit man for hire. And she's embracing it, but she hates it. um Also this season, the kids come back. I don't know if this is one of the last times we see them, um but we do see Cody and Astor grown up. um Dexter has a pot talk with Astros. I thought was like 15 or 16. She smoked a lot. Yeah, 11 what 11 12 years ago and now it's legal almost everywhere except for Florida, but um a Great line that Deb says the Dexter you're a silly serial killer and I'm more fucked up than you are.
00:07:14
Speaker
yeah After she's telling her that she's telling him that she's in love with him. um Also in this season we have the Phantom Arsonist.

Phantom Arsonist Subplot

00:07:24
Speaker
He goes into rooms and buses and cars and he dresses up in this silver suit that's flame retardant and he just use a fli uses the flame flame not flame floor floor but uses gasoline and and and he lights these people alive on fire. drop the bus Burns up a whole entire bus. um Not much in that story. There's a little bit of an ending to it. but Like I said, there's not really one main yeah villain It's all kind of little ones like that throughout um um Also Dexter's having a moral dilemma is his dark passenger.

Dexter's Dark Passenger and Self-Reflection

00:07:59
Speaker
Is it a cop-out? In other words like
00:08:08
Speaker
is Is this really his dark pastor is just an excuse to kill people that's kind of like the end of the season where it was heading um Also in this season Batista is retiring um By the end, I don't think he's gonna retire don't tell me we're gonna season now because something happens big that I think is going to bring him back. um Hannah is arrested, his girlfriend. um She ends up escaping prison. um no That's why I think she'll be back next season. um Dexter's on the hunt for the final killer for his from his mother. And that also is all related to LaGuardia because she releases him from prison. She's tracking Dexter now.
00:08:47
Speaker
And she tracks him into this warehouse at the very end of the episode, and before that, LaGuardia does arrest Dexter in front of everybody in the police station, makes her look like a crazy person because all the evidence was pointing to Dokes, and she's the only one that believes that he- She was set up by Dexter,

LaGuerta's Confrontation and Deb's Decision

00:09:04
Speaker
basically. She was set up by Dexter, yeah. And the interrogation that she does with him goes sideways, everybody looks at her like you're fucking crazy. um Second to last episode I believe is called surprise motherfucker. I saw that and I knew exactly there's gonna be flashbacks of dokes He must have came back film some great scenes watch back motherfucker you float yeah and And this episode chronicle eyes his dislike and distrust of Dexter where it came from Why he always was looking at him at the side I every time Dexter would talk um There was stuff that Dexter was saying to him that made him think all your you're fucking crazy. I'm gonna find out what's wrong with you
00:09:42
Speaker
um Dexter is contemplating breaking his code to save himself and more most importantly Deb Mm-hmm from being found out by LaGuardia And that means killing the guarta and the very end They meet up in a trailer the one that kind of like he dies in when he his mother died in when he was a very young um And the guarta meets him there as he has this final killer of his mother laying on a table um
00:10:13
Speaker
She points a gun at him I Think I can't remember exactly how the same played out but deck but Deb comes in Has a choice to either shoot LaGuardia Or LaGuardia tells us to tell us him tell us her to shoot your brother. He drugs LaGuardia he gets her down and then she wakes up when Deb walks in and Yeah. And Deb and Dexter are having a talk and Deb's like, you can't do this, Dexter. And then she wakes up and she's like, kill him, Deb, kill him. And then the gun goes off and Dexter like looks down and he's like, I'm not shot. And he looks over and LaGuardia is dead. And then Deb runs over and hugs her body. And she starts like emoting like crazy, yeah crying like crazy. um Great ending. Great cliffhanger.

Chaotic End of Dexter Season 7

00:10:57
Speaker
Like I said, I wanted to get into season eight because of this, but I waited because I knew we had a lot to talk about this week. I didn't want to get into a whole other season, but season seven all over the place. Yes. Not a not an underlying story throughout. However, the story is basically Dexter and Deb's relationship and how Dexter is kind of getting to the end of like. How much longer can he hide this? When is he going to be going on the run? Is he going to have to go on the run? They mentioned it a couple of times. Hannah said, let's just go pack and go somewhere. Let's leave. Let's go hide. Let's go to Europe, I think they say. But overall, so far, it's been very, very good. I can't wait to get into season eight, finish this, finish the original series, and then I'll get into New Blood probably.
00:11:42
Speaker
I'm thinking maybe I may be done by the time we come back in a couple of weeks. But yeah, I just watched new blood and I really enjoy new blood a lot Especially because like the way I watched it I want to know your perspective on new blood because you're going straight into it But I had like a solid five years off before I came out of there since I finished textures I was like a whole new thing. Um, so yeah, I want to know your perspectives on that Yeah, we'll get it but I really don't enjoy new blood like play with some themes and they definitely get into the dark passenger stuff that You were talking about earlier. Yeah, cool um Also, House of Dragons, episode 6. This episode's all about finding new dragonriders. Rhaenyra's got two dragons, three dragons without riders. One is also Seasmoke. And this episode's kind of all about Seasmoke. Daemon has another vision. Viserys returns, his brother who died in the first season.
00:12:34
Speaker
um I can't remember the actor. He's seen him in a bunch of stuff though. He was in Hot Fuzz. He was in a whole bunch of stuff. but um He was the he was the king or the king or whatever in the first season. Renara's father. Damon's brother Great scene with them um But this is all about see smoke the dragon who who was hit who was see smokes. It was her husband's it was her husband The the what's his name Corlius's son? Okay, and they switched this up from the books and I'm glad they did Okay, there's another thing they switched up. Also, I believe a few weeks back in Brooks rest
00:13:11
Speaker
Somebody else dies in that battle in the books, but he's still alive in the show. um So I like some of the changes they're making Because I really like that character and I don't know if they're gonna kill him or not So I'm not gonna say who it is, but they've been changing things up and in the books. See smoke is taken over by Damon's daughter. I think the one they that they sent away in this show. Okay. Okay So this is also we've been talking about how The bad omen of the dragon head from the last season went through the King's Landing. And how the people of King's Landing are kind of looking at everything and with new eyes now. Kind of revolting a little bit to the monarchy or whatever whatever it would be called. um So Rhaenyra in a cool twist of fate decides to feed the poor of King's Landing. She brings these boats filled with food, filled filled with food. stuff that the people of that of of King's Landing need, the the yeah the poorer people. um And it starts this big, huge, bloody revolt. um Allison and the Queen are we are leaving the palace and they're getting thrown dead fish. She called her the fish queen, right?
00:14:20
Speaker
um So that was really cool. It's kind of her way of getting, not not not going right straight to the monarchy, but going to the people first, because you need the people kind of on your side too. She wants the people on their side, yeah. The very end of this episode, Vernera goes complete lesbian. Shocked the hell out of me. I don't know if this is in the books or just because of the actor. They actually said they made up that scene on the spot. That wasn't even in the script. Very strange, very strange. um But like the blank like you mentioned, Seasmoke at the end of this episode has a brand new rider. And Rhaeiris grows, runs off, jumps on her dragon.
00:15:00
Speaker
And that's where the show ends to find out who is this new rider, which we're going to find out this weekend. um Yeah, there are two more episodes left. um I don't know where we're heading. I don't know where the was halfway point is going to be. You're thinking four seasons. They have to wait another two years. Yeah, probably four maybe. But like I said, they're changing stuff from the books. So who knows how long they could go. So it all depends on what they're they're thinking. Yeah. Have you watched Cobra Kai? Yes, I watched it last week. and How was it? Very good. Very good. Um, it was like, it took me about two and a half hours. It was like a movie. Um, yeah, I liked it. I like it so far. Um, it's a third of the episodes we're going to be getting this season. Um, so it was pretty good. I'm enjoying it and I look forward to more. I don't think we're getting more till like September than like not again until like January or for the ending. So it's kind of spaced out, which I don't like, but, uh, it's enjoyable.
00:15:55
Speaker
It's very schlocky, it's very 80s, very much like the movies, so that's why I enjoy it. Cool. um So this week is the 40th anniversary, I think it's actually on the 20th, yeah, tomorrow, the 27th as we record, of Prince's Purple Rain. Never saw this movie, heard all the songs a dozen times. Purple Rain,
00:16:23
Speaker
When Doves Cry, which I'll be playing in a couple minutes, but this came out on July 27th, 1984. Prince died, I think, 10 years ago. Fenton all over notes, which is what ten years wait yeah way too fucking young. um Of course, in our lifetime, he was the artist formerly known as Prince in the 90s because he had a dispute with Capitol or one of his, I can't remember what the record's label was, but, um, In 84 he just had a solo album out and he told the record label. I want a starring role I'm going to fire you my manager if you do not get me it so you end up shopping it around and The story was passed over all around Hollywood. Everybody was passing on it um Richard Pryor. I remember was one of the key members of Hollywood that passed on it um so his team decided to produce it themselves and
00:17:19
Speaker
in-house with his then-manager um directing it, um writing writing it um by a screenwriter of fame, the musical, um which is popular in the 70s, 80s. But the movie is all about violent abuse, family drama, um an artist trying to make it through household trauma, romantic drama. We'll get into all of that in a minute, but that sounds very familiar to some movie that came out in 2002. Hmm, but this is also like his band the revolution. It's kind of their Point is a lot of live at a live-action stuff mixed in with concert footage He also found a Apollonia who I know we've heard it the name before and Kanye West songs and a whole bunch of other stuff But she's the lead in this with him But there's a whole bunch of songs let's go crazy is the one that opens the movie and More stay in the time jungle love if you've seen J and silent Bob Morris day in the time was created by Prince But yeah that the whole entire chance J and silent Bob strike back. They actually come back perform that song at the end of the movie His name in the movie is the kid no other name given and of course my favorite song from this album is when dubs cry
00:18:40
Speaker
I've always loved this song. I love it. Have I ever, have I ever sent you the link to, uh, Joe Button sampled it and called it with thugs cry. It was like his early days. It's pretty fucking fire. Um, but i I do love when dubs cry. I do love with thugs cry. I'll send it to you when I find the link. I do want to hear it, yeah. But the ending, I think this is fucking incredible, to be honest with you. And he performs Purple Rain. I think, like I mentioned last week, he is an underrated guitar player. Amazing guitar player. Oh, he's incredible, yeah.
00:19:14
Speaker
um And if you've ever seen the video of him Tom Petty and they're doing when when my guitar gently weeps by the Beatles I think it was at one of the rock and roll Hall of Fame's Ceremonies fucking incredible. Yeah, look that up on YouTube, but he does purple rain right into I would die for you another great Prince song um But for me the movie in the beginning felt like a star is born I was thinking I was kind of like that and then I don't and then I was like wait a minute This feels a lot like fucking 8 Mile, and of course yes I go in, yeah everybody's like, yeah, 8 Mile is a rip-off, complete rip-off of everything that was done in Purple Rain, and I had no idea until I watched this. um But the the movie, for what it was, made $7 million, dollars it was $7 million dollars to make, made $70 million, dollars so 10 times the investment, that's pretty fucking good for the 80s. Soundtrack went 13 times platinum.
00:20:10
Speaker
25 million worldwide. Had two number one singles. When Dubbed Cry, Let's Go Crazy, um and the title track. um Purple Rain reached number two. um It was 24 weeks, 24 straight weeks, a half a year at number one on Billboard, which is fucking incredible. the whole entire album um and won the Academy Award for Best Original Score and like I mentioned Prince um I mean he did the Batman soundtrack that's the other big soundtrack that he did that was the number one album too but this was just huge this is like the lexicon um even I knew references from this movie before I watched Morris Day all the names in the in the movie were basically all the real names of everybody um except for his his name the kid never named Prince but great fucking movie
00:20:59
Speaker
Um, so with that being said, we have a reaction that we need to give for a movie that we watched last night.
00:21:15
Speaker
I mean, of course, like a lot of geeks in the world and in the country. watched Deadpool and Wolverine last night, and we have to give our reaction. We're gonna give a full spoiler breakdown after the show, but... It was... pretty much everything I expected it to be. Um... Without getting in too much of the spoiler part of it, um... I don't think they dived into the multiverse as much as I thought they would. It kind of gave me the same feeling as Doctor Strange's Multiverse of Madness, where we got little, very little glimpses of multiversal characters. The ones we got were fucking awesome. We'll get into that in the big spoiler review, but overall, I left the theater.
00:22:09
Speaker
feeling very happy 24 hours dive down a dive down a little bit not a lot but um I'll give my score at the end but we um we have a great movie here that reinvigorated Marvel in a way that we needed right now was it perfect absolutely not was the villain like I've said in a lot of these Marvel like you said to was the villain good Absolutely not and we we there's been a villain problem for a while at Marvel um Really never any stakes with the villain um and the villains we had in this were kind of weak And there's also I wanted to know a little bit more about but where weren't where we weren't going to get more because of how it was but Personally, I wanted I wanted more from the story. Um, yes
00:23:07
Speaker
to me it was just a highly entertaining movie and i don't dare think it's save i don't think it's saving marvel it's what we needed for marvel now as far as entertainment wise but it's not like this one movie is gonna put marvel back on the map it's not like this one movie is gonna do to marvel what say Captain America helped do maybe the first Guardians, the first Avengers, Infinity War. It's not going to do that, but it was very entertaining um and the cameos were all awesome and the one I got specifically, which I mentioned to you before and after, um is something I've been wanting to see for years.
00:23:41
Speaker
and honestly never thought we would get to see it and I'm glad it was incredible. Finally. There's two, two incredible cameos that we're going to talk about at the end. And I'm glad that Ryan patched things up with another actor to have him come and do this because they apparently hate each other and were never going to work with each other from long ago. So I'm glad they were able to do that because that was one person I never even crossed my mind would show up in this movie, which is weird, but it's probably because those movies are so old that it just Yeah, didn't really enter my lexicon. Yeah. Yeah, but yeah, it's a love letter to the Fox universe, of course yeah Right up to the end mid credits. We'll get into all of that at the end with a with a review number and everything um But yeah before that let's get into the news And it's not a new something we'll trail round up
00:24:40
Speaker
ah' Got the very first trailer for rebel moon the director's cut coming out on August 2nd. What are your thoughts on that? Yes, okay on my August 2nd mine exactly cuts ah The trailer was two minutes long the slow-mo if it was sped up would have been 30 seconds like I told you in our text lots of blood lots of Stuff that should I have problems with the whole entire way this happened This should have been in the release. There should have never been if there never should be a director's cut but to be fair This is neither Scott Netflix. This is Netflix's That wasn't on Snyder Snyder pitched on this movie and they said we like the idea we need PG-13 cuts So if you give us that then we'll let you do your r-rated cuts. um I think I agree They all should have been released the same time
00:25:31
Speaker
um But Netflix wanted to release it that way and try to capitalize on something that happened incredibly organically, which is the release of the Snyder Cut movement, which will probably, I mean, that may never happen again. I mean, it's happened like three times in Hollywood history. First time was with the original Star Trek, when back in the day they wrote letters to get the third season made. It happened with Family Guy in the early 2000s, same thing. There was pre-social media. And then of course with Snyder Cut and all this fans of social media getting that released. um
00:26:02
Speaker
Netflix is like trying to capitalize on that but I think the interest has died down unless you're a hardcore snatter fan after watching the PG-13 ones. Yeah, I'm gonna wait for your review and then if you tell me you give me the nod to go watch him I will watch the director's cuts when they come out next week. um Saw trailer for A Complete Unknown, the biopic of Bob ah bob Dylan. with Timothy Chalamet playing him. I thought he did an incredible job, looked just like him in a lot of the scenes from the side. um Yeah, talking about his rise to fame and how he became a folk singer. and When does this come out in November? Not sure the exact date, but yeah, sometime soon. um Also got the trailer for Joker 2 Folio Do, starring Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix coming back in the title role.
00:26:56
Speaker
um
00:26:59
Speaker
I'm excited, kind of. The first one, I liked the last 20 minutes. I'm more intrigued. I'm more intrigued. It's a good word. It looks interesting. I'm more intrigued. It's a good word for it. And we get Harvey Dent, though, so that's kind of cool. Harvey Dent, um what's his name, is playing a ah a security guard at the prison. Darnell Gleason, not Darnell, that's his son. I can't remember his name. fa But yeah, Mad-Eye Moody from Harry Potter. A couple of new Empire magazine covers came out with the two of them after the trailer released. So yeah, um let's get into the news. Hollywood box office last week, Twisters. 80 million dollars. Huge huge and win for them. Good for them. It was particularly like 60. Yeah, Despicable Me 2. 23 million. Inside Out 2.
00:27:51
Speaker
12 million and now it's the highest grossing animated film in history. With 1.4 billion dollars and counting. Still counting every week. um just come out listen to watch them watch For yeah. i want reveal and Definitely. um ah They say that The Lion King, the remake, was the most was it technically a computer animated generated movie. yeah um They categorize it as a live action. um That made a hundred that made one point six five billion So this kind of has an asterisk until it beats that but I don't think it's gonna have a problem beating that to be right with you What the wait and see um the boys season four we just finished it last week
00:28:32

It had 55 million viewers to the whole entire season on Amazon. 20% up compared to season three. So a lot of people are loving it. A lot of people have caught up on that season before the new season premiered and started watching again, which is cool. I think a lot of people are watching it later. Like I don't think a lot of people watch it when the first couple of seasons were on. So now they're catching up to it. I know a lot of people I worked with did that. Um, a few of the guys I worked in, watch it, didn't start watching until like the end of last summer when I was telling them about it, they finally started watching it in the fall where they had more time and they all love it. and now they watch it as it comes out. Yep. SAG-AFTRA going on strike for video games this time.
00:29:11
Speaker
Video game publishers looking for protections against AI. It's the big thing right now is a big thing with the strike last year um Now the the video game publishers are going after it as well. So the big ones um This news came out today very weird Francis Ford Coppola when he was filming megalopolis There's video of him. He's got to be 80s. Yeah, he's got to be. But did you hear did you hear that apparently he announced to them that if he kisses you, it's it's for his pleasure or something like that? No, I didn't hear that. room No. Yeah, it's just creepy though Yeah, I mean he's a written world-renowned director and I hope we don't have any any more weird shit come out from him. Yeah, we'll see a Brand-new that brand-new who dizzy plus max streaming bundle launched this week 1699 a month with ads $29.99 a month without ads still pretty good deal
00:30:23
Speaker
Um, cause without ads for Netflix is what 1699, uh, Disney plus and Hulu is like 2499. So you're saving quite a bit. They say 38% savings. So that's a good deal. Um, I get max for free, so it doesn't matter for me. And it's 999 with ads for Hulu and, and a Disney plus together. So that's not bad either. Um, yeah. Yeah, that's how they get you the ad the ad supported version I have ad supported netflix and ad supported disney and hulu now for ad supported netflix Not that bad cobra cards exciting watch on it and there it's 699 and the ads are like 40 seconds Like sometimes hulu ads are like a minute and a half to two minutes sometimes yeah um yeah Yeah, the ones on netflix don't seem to be that long. It might be based on how long that thing is I'll probably get like five minute ads during rebel moon. which will Give me time to stretch
00:31:11
Speaker
Get ready for more slow-mo. We're singing weird politicstic songs Over under how long is the rebel moon directors cut gonna be four to five hours? Like where we at with ads? fuck with ads too somo In general how how fast can be if we hit that's for the first one supposed to be like Three hours and 14 minutes second ones like just under three hours. and legislatedly Okay. Okay. Wow. Oh my god um Peaky Blinders announced today that Rebecca Ferguson from Dune is going to be cast in the movie. Peaky Blinders movie with ah Killian Murphy coming back to play ah Thomas Shelby. um Excited about that. I got to finish that last season on Peaky Blinders. um Bedrock. this was ah This was a show based off the Flintstones, an animated show. um Elizabeth Banks was doing it for Fox. ah Reportedly they passed on it. um
00:32:05
Speaker
I remember Seth MacFarlane a while ago was trying to do Flintstones again, too, and that got passed on. I don't know why they're passing on. it was It was kind of a big deal back when we were kids. They had the big movie, um stuff like that. so Brendan Fraser, um he was in The Whale last year, got ah got an Academy Award for that. um He's been cast as Dwight D. Eisenhower in a D-Day movie titled Pressure. Um, yeah, all about the Normandy Landys in World War II. Um, so yeah, I love Brandon Fraser growing up. Uh, yeah. Um, Sharon Stone's going to star opposite Bob Odenkirk and nobody too. I can't wait for that. And nobody won. It was a great movie. if Nobody's seen it. It's great. Great action movie. And right on, right on the heels of kind of like, uh, uh, John Wick kind of style. Um, Bob Odenkirk, of course, everybody knows him from Better Call Saul. Um, Mr. Show.
00:32:56
Speaker
um ah This other thing from Rebel Moon, Zach Center's Rebel Moon, they announced that a podcast is happening, said 500 years before the events of the movie, ah talking about the origins of the Robot Knights. This comes out first episode on the 29th, five episodes dropping weekly after that, so six episodes total. um Yeah, sure. 500 years. He's trying to he's trying to build this universe. Give me like an audio book type deal because they hired actors and stuff like that. Like the girl from Fallout is going to be one of the voices. She was also in the army of the dead movie he made.
00:33:32
Speaker
He's trying his damnedest to make his own Star Wars universe and get into the mythos or his own universe in general. Yeah. Yeah Got a poster got a poster for only murders in the building coming out at the end of the month on August 27th Lots of cast coming in. They're all pictured on here. Zach Galifianakis Eugene Levy um Eva Longoria Melissa McCarthy Molly Shannon Camille non Johnny and plus all the original cast Steve Martin Martin short Selena Gomez and If you haven't seen that Great show. This is the fourth season. I believe It's a great murder mystery every season has a great great twist great murder mystery Involves us pretty cool um Got a great new poster for Terminator zero coming out on August 29th Everything I see about this from pictures to to trailers looks great. So I'm kind of excited about that Judd Apatow
00:34:30
Speaker
Doing another documentary, this time on Mel Brooks. The last one he done was did was on Gary Shandling. is This is coming out on HBO. Mel Brooks. I love Mel Brooks, of course. A lot of people know him from Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs. He wouldn't have a career these days if he started his career now. know to be canceled He would He would have not survived the cancel culture. No. But a lot of people, you can say that about a lot of people back then. yeah oh yeah um What do you know about Skippity Toilet, Kevin? Naturally fuck all except for Michael Bayes doing something about it. Yeah, Michael Bay is doing a movie on Skippity Toilet, which a lot of the Gen Alpha, the ones that are in school now, know about Skippity Toilet. It's based off this YouTube video shorts that are on, I think I got 200 running by it, and I think 200 of them are running on there right now, about these heads growing out of toilets against robots, radios on their heads. It's weird. um If you hear kids, you'll hear them say, Skippity Toilet, Ohio Rizz. That's the big thing of this show.
00:35:32
Speaker
ah Don't even ask me how I know this. I have a friend who has a kid who knows all about it. She's taught her and she's taught me, so... Let's give it a toilet, a movie coming out by Michael Bay with explosions. I have no idea who wants to see this. I don't know if the kids will even want to see it. Lots of drawing use. Lots of drawing toilet use. ye yep As long as there's some one slayers, I'll be happy. um Darth Vader. We got a hot toys figure from Darth Vader. Damage, and battle damage.
00:36:03
Speaker
This came out right before Comic Con, so I'm not sure if this is on the floor of Comic Con or not, but it looks very cool. It's got Anakin without the mask. Looks awesome. Also, it looks like a t-shirt shot of Skeleton Crew, the Star Wars show coming out at the end of the year. It looks very Goonies-ish, which is how it was announced. Some of the kids' characters, the robot figure in the background. Yep. Um, King Spawn. This is the official name or title of what Todd McFarlane is doing for his Spawn movie. um Other than that, we don't know. I know it's based off a comic book called King Spawn. I don't know anything other than that, but Blumhouse is doing that.
00:36:46
Speaker
Ike Perlmutter, this is released at the beginning of the week, um he sold all of his Disney stock, about 25 million shares, worth 3 billion dollars after he kind of got kicked out of Disney. um He tried to do a coup and take over Disney again, failed completely. So he's gone completely gone no more investment in Disney at all. He was the only thing that was keeping him there He sold all of his stocks And if like we talked about last year when we talked about that book he had he was a big problem at Disney and Marvel um and the reason why there was such a turmoil between the TV and movie departments at the time and Um, James Mangold, director of Logan, we talked a lot about Logan at the end of the show, but, um, calls multiverse, movie multiverses, the death of storytelling. Um, isn't he directing? He's directing, um, Swamp Thing over at DC, right? oh Um, I wonder how James Gunn feels about that. I wonder what he thinks about that, because I'm sure that's going to be all part of his universe. Um, yep.
00:37:53
Speaker
Yeah, we'll see. we'll We'll see. He's kind of right about that as far as it does limit to you does limit you to telling a story that has to be right complete the whole entire series. And the way it sounds like James is doing it is it's going to be similar to like his Guardians movie, where yes, they're a part of a universe, but they also stand alone. Um, I think that's how he's going to treat the DCU to where they're connected, but you don't need to see every single thing to keep, like, you know what I'm saying? Like, I think that's how it sounds like he's doing it. Very similar to how he did his guardians within a multi-universe, but he also stands along its own trilogy. Um, so, I mean, weird thing to say, I'm sure he was just asked about it because of he did Logan and now Deadpool's out. So. Yeah. Um, last week we talked about the,
00:38:38
Speaker
Deadpool Microsoft controller well after we got off the podcast they revealed a wolverine is getting his own ass cheeky controller Exclusive only to Xbox and from what I heard they're only making like one Or two that you have to win in a sweepstakes. Is that correct? Did you hear anything about? that I have no idea I have not heard yeah, so you can buy it you can't even buy these these are extremely limited to like one and Speaking of Deadpool and wolver Wolverine, Deadpool took over all of the social media icons on Facebook and Twitter. um and Him in pictures with the Avengers, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye, Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man. He took the costumes, put on the costumes.
00:39:21
Speaker
and he's wearing them and it's getting an animated style. um Even the Marvel Studios logo logo is him holding dogpool and Wolverine lifting it on the other side. Very cool. A lot of promotion to this movie. They went crazy with the promotion. They were everywhere. I'm surprised if you haven't seen them, you were probably living under a rock this week. um Marvel planted a lot of fake leaks about Deadpool and Wolverine. We're gonna get into all of that at the end. I don't think they did. I think this is bullshit. um To protect some of the cameo surprises, um They tried to misdirect the audience on the internet um In order to protect the secrecy of this movie, which did not happen. There was no secrets involved um The only one that I think is a big one is the cameo on Taylor Swift Which they kind of had to a couple months ago go out and say yeah she's not in the movie Because a lot of people thought that she was and that would have yeah brought in a lot of a bigger audience than what we got this weekend for sure but But speaking of her
00:40:18
Speaker
Um, she did praise the team behind Deadpool and Wolverine. She's friends with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. Um, they, they've hung out together with Hugh while they were doing this movie and Sean Levy, of course they were at the Super Bowl once, uh, or not Super Bowl, a football game once together. um But she did praise praise them in a statement yesterday when the before the movie released He also revealed that Deadpool Wolverine had another title um We actually know this title is a movie that there was a movie title that was announced before the trailer was released at the Super Bowl Yeah, was one of the ones they trademarked right? It was Deadpool Deadpool Wolverine and a few other ones Deadpool it was Deadpool and friend um it leaked online like two days before the Super Bowl and
00:41:02
Speaker
The internet said that's a shitty title. So pretty much. I think he said that that week or that night They changed the title of the Deadpool and Wolverine because I think they were trying to keep the Wolverine thing a secret But the end of the trailer already showed Wolverine. So you're like, yeah, they already know this already said leagues already showed Wolverine right? so Everybody knows he's there and you and we've already announced it. So why are you trying to hide it? So that's why they changed the title makes perfect sense. The title worked um Estimated to make 370 million dollars this this weekend in the box office. We'll talk about that when we come back. Deadpool, I don't know if you've seen the video of him, but today they started using him at Disneyland at the California Adventure. There's a very cool video of him dancing around um to the audience. And of course, it's the very first time an R-rated movie character is being used at a Disney park, which is fucking incredible.
00:41:59
Speaker
um Also Wolverine from the from the movie is gonna be showing up as as well um Kevin if I get in a lot of interviews for this probably more more so than anything right now Because Marvel is kind of at a at a point where they have to do a little bit of about face on stuff um but he's talking about the original x-men movies and how Bryan Singer and the studios wanted them to have these spandex because of the movie Matrix. um It was such a big hit, so they wore black spandex and that was it. ah The studio i said, put them in black leather and that's exactly what happened and that's why we didn't get the comic accurate costumes until now, until till till more recent years, especially in the MCU. But that was just the thing. The Matrix was a huge movie.
00:42:44
Speaker
One of those cultural phenomenons that took over everything in Hollywood at that time. Special effects was a big one too. But last night, Deadpool and Wolverine made 38.5 million dollars in Thursday night previews um Biggest haul of 2024 so far and the highest grossing Preview night ever for an R rated movie. So are you but breaking records? um Yeah, we'll talk about all that when we come back a couple weeks, but yeah, it's gonna be huge Kevin Feige also confirms that a Nova project is in the works It's gonna be a TV show which a writer is gonna be the main character um Reveals can be about three or four years until we see that on on the on the small screen. So
00:43:23
Speaker
um We talked about Nova for a while. So we'll we'll see how that happens also kind of talked about there's no immediate plans for the Eternals to return um We do know that Tiamat the hand of this celestial is seen in the Captain America ah Brave New World trailer So we do know that they're gonna be implications from that movie throughout the rest of the MCU here and there sprinkled in but we're not gonna see the actual team of the Eternals and the post creditd credit scene of that movie with Harry Styles is not going to be played out or anything like that, but right no immediate plans for that. I also asked about Tom Holland, Spider-Man 4, said that him and Amy Pascal are working on it. um They have writers that are going to be delivering in the draft relatively soon.
00:44:04
Speaker
um I'm not surprised that we will not get some news at comic-con about this Surprised we haven't had any news coming out about this at all I know Tom Holland's kind of excited about it. Everybody's excited about it. and We know that they're doing a new trilogy And they're very excited to see what happens with the grounded spider-man. So am I so we'll see i' also talking about Avengers Tower and um We knew that in Homecoming, that that that it was that was sold off, um that way a Happy Hogan sold it, or Tony Stark sold it, and Happy Hogan was moving everything out. And that story hasn't changed. They already knew back then when that was gonna happen, what was gonna happen with the tower. And we'll be finding out sometime within the next few years in the article that I had said within the next year, but I don't think that's true. think I think Kevin Feige kind of backed off on that a little bit.
00:44:53
Speaker
um Marvel is still committed to rebooting Blade despite all the setbacks of development. um It's going to be rated R. Kevin Feige said that. um For the last two years we've been trying to crack that movie. The most important thing is for us to not rush it and making sure we are making the right Blade movie because there were some great Blade movies years ago and they were all rated R so I think that's like Deadpool inherent with the character of Blade. um yeah We'll get into that in a minute. Um, Pedro Pascal yesterday posted a picture of the, of the four fantastic four members together. I'm guessing in San Diego, they start filming on, they start filming on Monday. They're going to be a huge present. It's at whole each tomorrow. Um, unless they're on zoom call, which could be the case. I know they're going to be filming in London. Maybe they are on zoom call, but, um, Hey, what's the picture of them behind the scenes backstage with the first time together. So that's pretty cool. Um, very excited about that movie.
00:45:51
Speaker
Kevin Feige got his star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week um speeches from Hugh Jackman who gave him a $15 gift card You know the you know the significance of that $15 gift card to a steakhouse You know about that When Hugh Jackman auditioned for X-Men he thought he had a shitty audition Kevin Feige was a lower Producer on that movie the very first X-Men movie in 2000 so he took Hugh Jackman out to a dinner at a steakhouse and paid for his dinner and $15 dinner at a steakhouse and Hugh Jackman kind kind of kind of eased his nerves like he did a really good audition and They've been friends ever since and of course when he came over to the MCU to play Wolverine
00:46:33
Speaker
um They've already had that history. That's the kind of why it was a smooth, smooth entry into the MCU. And during the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, Hugh Jackman gave him the gift card paying him back for that tenor 20, 24 years ago, which is kind of cool. um Chris Evans was there, Sebastian Stan, um David Harbor, Hugh Jackman, um similar to you, Chris, I want to say Chris e cri for chris Pratt.
00:47:04
Speaker
um A whole bunch of whole bunch of stars were there. I'm surprised down he wasn't there. But yeah, where are we at? Also talked about Deadpool and Wolverine will be the mutant error coming into the MCU, kind of the beginning of that. We already knew that. Also talked about with the return of Wolverine, could we have a potential return of Tony Stark or Steve Rogers after this? um Kind of treating Wolverine with kid gloves after such an amazing exit in his series.
00:47:40
Speaker
Can we do the same thing for Tony Stark and Steve Rogers who had the same, um same had that same kind of ending given to them, um protecting that character? Can they do that? And there is ways of doing that with the multiversal fuckery. um We'll have to wait and see down the line how that works, but he said it's possible. um Also talking about X-Men versus Avengers movie, now that we have the Avengers in the MCU, says, direct quote, what's fun is it's all possible now with them in their sandbox so that's kind of cool um and he also commented on a potential marvel dc crossover saying never say never um yeah i with james gun over there i
00:48:27
Speaker
would hope they dealt for a very long time. For a long time. Maybe maybe make it the last thing James Gunn does as executive in maybe 10 years give or take. yeah um By then maybe Kevin Feige will be done too. You never know. yep yeah So now now we are at the Comic Con. Comic Con started on Wednesday and we're at the Comic Con portion of this show today. um They started Wednesday. They had some stuff yesterday. A little bit of stuff today. We're going to continue talking about it tomorrow night um when we finish talking about the Hall H panel. We're going to try to go live about 10 o'clock. I think the panel is usually done by 10, 10, 15.
00:49:04
Speaker
But we're going to go live on YouTube and talk about everything that's going to be revealed tomorrow in Hall H. um But they already revealed a brand new banner for Marvel with Deadpool front and center sitting there with Dogpool, Wolverine, and a lot of the animated shows, a lot of the live action, X-Men 97 is a part of that, a lot of cool comic book stuff in there too, little nods, very cool logo, it'll be cool as a poster. um Saw some toy biz 1 8th scale figures Articulated of the spider-man animated series versions of spider-man and venom. I thought these looked really cool um Very very cool. um Of course, that was my first foray into venom. So yeah, that looks very cool um Last night was the Deadpool and Wolverine panel at comic-con Kevin Feige came out introduced Hugh Jackman Ryan Reynolds and Sean Levy
00:49:57
Speaker
And they did a surprise screening of Deadpool and Wolverine. Everybody in the audience got a popcorn bucket. The famous popcorn bucket that everybody loves. um It's only sold at AMC. um But at the end of it, they revealed all of the spoiler filled casts of surprise cameos on stage. We're not going to get into it yet, we'll get into the spoiler portion. but Um, thunderous applause. Everybody loved it. There was one missing. We'll get into that in the spoiler version portion of this, but, um, we'll get into all that the at the end. Cause I know you had your feelings about it. You told me earlier. Um, yeah, I just actually wish they had done it maybe tomorrow. Um, a lot of people actually see the movie first. Cause a lot of people, cause it was all over the place. And so like, if you were playing, go to this like tonight, then you would have had, like, I wouldn't have even seen the movie if I knew all those came because I was just waiting. Um,
00:50:50
Speaker
So, and I don't think they didn't need question and answer. So it was just to hype up the crowd, which had already been hyped from seeing the movie. So I think it would have been better if they did it on Saturday, i don't last night. I think it made more sense to do it yesterday because they already had the crowd that saw the movie and this is like the the best place to debut a movie. um If you think about it when you go to... Yeah, but they they took so much care care to not let anybody find out about any of the cameos. Then the night the movie debuts, they release all the cameos. But by then, by then you already have all the newspapers have seen the movie. all the all the plot press that are putting these videos out have already seen the movie they all have yeah but you can avoid that if you're trying to avoid spoilers you can't turn on the news in the morning and see it on CNN that all that shit happened before you go to work when you haven't seen the movie
00:51:45
Speaker
like i said Like I said to you earlier, the media has to have a limit of how they're going to effect on spoil how they're gonna affect these spoilers, releasing the spoilers. Marvel didn't release any of it. It wasn't Marvel. It was Deadline. It was Variety. the By the way, the Variety review, completely spoiler film. But you can avoid by not reading the review of the movie, because the movie the review says it's a sport you know it's going to be a spoiler review, so you can avoid that. You can't avoid it if you wake up in the morning and turn on the news and you see all this shit happen because you're watching CNN. Yeah, CNN, let's see that's CNN's problem though. That's not Marvel's problem.
00:52:21
Speaker
Marvel did everything they could to hide this. But Marvel knows it's going to be covered by somebody. But the movie is the biggest thing right now. It's covered no matter what. like It's going to be huge no matter what happens. But still though, if you're trying to avoid spoilers... If you're trying to avoid spoilers, go see it like we did. To be honest with you, because this movie had a lot of stuff that was going to come out no matter what. There's no way though. I know, but there's no way you're going to hide that stuff. There's no way. By the way, The theater last night was the most packed we've ever gone. We had to park in the back parking lot last night. I couldn't believe there was no parking spaces left in the theater. I can't remember what was the end game the last time? Maybe that we went to the theater was packed like that. It was crazy. But after the screening, they did a drone show. Fireworks Overhaul H San Diego Comic Con. Drone shows are pretty cool. They had Deadpool, Deadpool and Wolverine. But they also ended it with a light show of the Fantastic Four.
00:53:18
Speaker
The symbol showed up and then in the clouds came a drone of Galactus coming out of the off of the horizon. It looked very, very cool hinting to what's going to happen to Haul each tomorrow. um So that was kind of the more Marvel portion of last night um Transformers one we saw a trailer today for that comes out on September 20th in theaters for some reason I thought that was a Netflix exclusive, but it's coming out in theaters um Starring Chris Helmsworth is Optimus Prime Paperboy as Megatron um Keegan Michael Key as
00:53:51
Speaker
ah Bumblebee um and I can't remember who's playing scar ah the woman in that but uh, yeah, I don't remember but yeah trailer pretty good ah Steve Buscemi is gonna be voicing scar star scream So yeah um Kevin Smith has a panel after Holly on Saturday as he going to be premiering the trailer for the 430 movie. um This is kind of his 80s montage ah love story to movie theaters and going to the movie theaters as a kid when he was a kid. um Harley Quinn's boyfriend is I think playing kind of like a version of himself when he was younger. um He's starring in that movie.
00:54:27
Speaker
um It's got a brand-new poster for the killers game. I think out of all the trailers we saw this year starring Dave Batista I think this one's probably surprised us the most wouldn't you say? Yeah, it looks very very good something. I'm excited for September 13th Dave Batista Terry Crews Palm from the Guardians movies is that Drew McIntyre in the right corner there it fucking is I didn't know this movie and the chick from ah rebel moon, of course Yeah, Ben Kingsley's in it too, yep yeah. um Dr. Who announced a spin-off today, the war between land and sea. um Don't know much about what it's all about, looks like it's the the unit team. The unit is kind of like their, I can't remember what it stands for, but it's their Intergalactic Police and on Earth of of a team. So yeah, we'll see about that. We talked about Dr. Who last week and kind of how Disney Plus is
00:55:20
Speaker
maybe separating themselves from the Doctor Who universe, but we'll see on that. Announced today during the Boyz panel, ah the Boyz is getting a Soulja Boyz storefront prequel series titled Vought Rising, abot rising sorry ah set in the 1950s about the beginnings of the corporation, Vought, Justin Ankles and Aya Kashu played storefront on season two. It's coming back and they're going to be doing that and also um announced today. Soldier boy will be a regular in the boy season five. um That's awesome. I cannot wait. um Gen V is going to be season two is going to come out sometime in 2025. So add that to the huge list of stuff coming out next year. um Got a brand new trailer for Rings of Power, which looks incredible. Comes out at the end of August.
00:56:08
Speaker
all about making the rings they're gonna be making the rings and how Sauron manipulated his way to making all of the rings and how they how they took over the humans of course turned him in the race and all that that's kind of cool who I'm gonna get the first clip from the Crow starring Bill Skarsgard yeah it looked okay I don't I don't know about this movie comes out August 23rd yeah we'll so you'll see um Kevin do you have eighteen thousand five hundred dollars? And do you have a house big enough to put a life-size t-rex head from Jurassic Park? Who do you think I am? Biswick, man? Yes, I do. You don't have a t-rex sculpt. These have a t-rex sculpt in his house. In his office.
00:56:52
Speaker
It was during the it was during Covid they actually had it on TV They did the and was it money in the bank in the in the Titan towers and they showed it in the background of his office Yeah, he doesn't he had a t-rex shell and you're right a scholarly, right? um Mark Hamill the announced he had a surprise appearance at the Spongebob Squarepants panel He's going to be playing the voice of the Flying Dutchman in an animated upcoming movie called the Search for Square Pants. um Flying Dutchman is was big in the first couple of seasons of Spongebob, I remember when I used to watch that show. um But Mark Hamill coming in there, kind of cool.
00:57:27
Speaker
um I know the real Ghostbusters were big in my life, I'm sure they were in yours. um They're coming up, Mondale's coming up with brand new 1-12th scale figures, looked really, really cool. um They had Egon and I think, I believe Ray was, no, Egon and Bankman were the two characters of the Ghostbusters, and Slimer, of course. A couple of the villains from the from the animated series, too, looked really cool. um Dexter, um the original Sin, they have a they have a a truck bed there, what do they call those?
00:58:05
Speaker
shipping container shipping container and It's off-site near near us San Diego comic-con and you go there you're placed on a table you're wrapped in Saran wrap You're all marked up and they take your photo for a souvenir thought that's kind of cool Yes, right off site of San Diego comic-con. He's there promoting it and Big huge merle mural of the cover or the art from that is there. Looks kind of cool. I wanted to mention that. Also, Death of Superman. Funeral for a friend. They have this awesome figure on display there. It's all painted gold. It's the statue of Superman they made after he died as a as a tribute to him in the comic book. um But this is going to be a convention exclusive only at San Diego Comic Con. It's all gold. Looks really, really cool like the comic book version.

um Iron Studios also has a couple of Superman figures, ah Superman and Lois flying over the Daily Planet, and Batman and Superman, the Alex Ross version of the characters in in complete like glorious form. It looks really, really cool. um david mahaion mahash maauian when dust mouse chi that's it um Is writing a Halloween special for DC ah coming out this October ah DC horror presents creature commandos number one Comes out on the second of October. I don't know much more about that. I haven't really even heard anything besides this article I think you sent me but yeah want to put that in there um The Batman universe is called the Batman epic crime saga. They haven't done anything at comic-con about the Batman um'm I'm sure during the penguin panel, which I believe is tonight which we'll cover either tomorrow when we come back
00:59:51
Speaker
um We'll talk about that a little bit more but it's officially called the Batman epic universe separate from of course the DC you James got over it games runs universe um The penguin showrunner confirms the series will set up directly into the Batman sequel um And another television explorations is coming after the penguin. So they're gonna be doing more. Of course. They did have the Arkham ma Asylum and Gotham PD and that was dropped by HBO. um They were dropped because HBO we like said, we like what you're doing and we want to lean harder into the marquee characters. In other words, Batman or the big main main characters and even the penguin. So yeah. um James Gunn was gifted this comic book by Nicholas Holt. ah Lex Luthor playing Lex Luthor in the Superman movie.
01:00:39
Speaker
um um He wrapped this week and he gave him a cover of Brainiac and Lex Luthor trapping Superman in a cage. I don't know if this is confirmation that Brainiac's in the movie. um I'm thinking it is. We haven't really heard anything about that. Or alluded to for the universe in general. Right. ah By the way, comic was 12 cents back then so this is an old one. yep DC might be bringing this is the last ah part portion of the news where we're getting the spoilers But DC might be making making some surprises at comic-con. Of course James Gunn's not there He's he's working on Superman, but you have a penguin panel They have a couple other Marvel Marvel DC panels that they could bring up some news Creature commandos comes out in what six months? We haven't seen a trailer really any art besides the stuff that James Gunn is released You made peacemakers in production right now. So we may see some something. I'm sure We'll have to wait and see
01:01:35
Speaker
um With that being said We have a review that we have to run and we're gonna be reviewing Deadpool and Wolverine Welcome everybody to our very first youtube live stream. Yes See how this plays out but we are gonna be reviewing Deadpool and Wolverine full spoilers school

For me I Think the Deadpool jokes hit every single time I thought it's very funny. They put a lot of work into this um Writing wise, of course, we knew this was filmed right during the strikes so the fourth wall breaks from the very first scene and pretty much lambasted the Fox merger, which was great. um And the history about a fourth wall, do you know the history about how what a fourth wall is named after? I'm sure you've heard this before. um problem Fourth wall, if you're in Hollywood, you're filming on a TV or a movie set, you're see if you're watching like a sitcom, you got the three walls, you got the side wall, left and right, you got the back wall,
01:02:59
Speaker
Well, you don't have the fourth wall, that's where the camera is. So, of course, when you're talking to the fourth wall, you're talking to the camera, the crew that are behind the camera. That's where the fourth fourth wall comes from. And, of course, Wade Wilson, She-Hulk, and a whole bunch of other characters in the Mulberry universe are talking to the fourth wall. They're talking to the audience. That's a very cool history of that. um opening credits scene. They always talk about we need to treat the legacy of of Logan in a good good balanced way. um So what do they do? They completely desegrated it. um He takes all of Logan's bones and starts beating up the TVA that are chasing him in the scene. It was a fucking fantastic, amazing scene. There's a Gossip Girl reference reference in this too, of course. ah Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds' wife, was in Gossip Girl.
01:03:48
Speaker
um that was pretty funny um but the movie we always talk about the fourth wall breaks in the first two movies and what he does and this movie takes it even further with the mcu of course and um and logan um and also talking about all of the recent marvel failures um of the multiverse um and at one point he even Deadpool even says Marvel they're kind of a bit of a a little low point which is fucking yeah, um The Wolverine I'm getting a little bit further into the movie He's looking for a version of Wolverine the TVA wants to send him in looking for a version of Wolverine that'll bring balance um so he goes into this montage of variants of Wolverines
01:04:35
Speaker
and He sees a comic accurate fly under five foot tall short King Wolverine played by Hugh Jackman. Hugh Jackman coming out of a bar completely shrunk down to under five feet. um We see Patch we've seen in the first trailer I believe. is the one that was at the card table, played by Hugh Jackman in the white tuxedo. No Daniel Radcliffe though, right? Not Daniel Radcliffe, that was the rumor, yeah. ah We see Weapon Omega, um this is right straight out of the comic book, which I'm going to add to here, and see if it works, yep. First slide. This is this came out in the 90s, X-Men Alpha, um in that Wolverine in the front there is Weapon Omega. um This is set in an alternate universe during the 90s, a lot of weird 90s shit happened back then.
01:05:20
Speaker
um We also see Hulk versus Wolverine in the brown suit. um That here of course right straight out of the comic books and that scene with Hulk in the claws reflecting the claws was played out in the movie as well. I thought that was awesome. um And we also get Hulk, we get Wolverine um on the X-Cross um from Uncanny X-Men number 251. By the way, the comic was a dollar back then. I think they're like four bucks now. Yeah, or yeah but is over over a bed of skulls underneath, which is really cool visually in the movie. um We get a comic accurate Old Man Logan as well. um That was very cool. That was awesome.
01:06:08
Speaker
to see that because, of course, we didn't get that in Logan, but we knew it was based off of that comic book series. But the biggest cameo in this whole entire sequence, which we have a lot to talk about and unpack here, was Henry Cavill's huge cameo as Cavill Rain, as Deadpool names him. um What do you say? Welcome to the MCU. We won't do you like the guys did down the street or something like that. Yes, that's the exact lie. Um, yeah, but it was brilliant. The DC digs were brilliant. I mean, just having him in there, of course, that was a fan casting ever since he's been fired from DC. So it was, it was brilliant on every level. Um, but this movie was a love letter a comic book movies, love letter to the Fox universe for sure.
01:06:49
Speaker
Yeah, um but the things of note, we're going to note a couple of things about this Wolverine not a fan of the adventures in his universe. The adventures are part of his universe. um Also, the TVA calls that Wolverine of Logan. and Anchor being of that universe that kind of the face of the franchise in other words um And because because he died in that universe ah Wade Wilson's universe is going to go in and collapse and that's basically what the whole movie is about It's him trying to to save his universe save all his his his family and his friends. Yes, there's nine people he says nine people his whole world is nine people and
01:07:27
Speaker
Yep. But who is the MCU's 616's version? Is it Tony Stark? Because he died in Endgame. Is it Captain America? He left, he didn't really die yet, but he was Old Man Cap at the end of Endgame. Is Spider-Man the MCU's anchor being? Like who is the anchor being? Is this going to be something explored later on in Secret Wars if we get that movie? I feel like Spider-Man's too young. Maybe it'll end up being the Fantastic Four or Reed Richards, I don't know, depending on where that movie leads us off. Yeah. um Yeah, you're right. Who would I think Spider-Man is a little too young. I don't see him. I don't see a lot of them taking orders from him as far as being like the leader who their anchor being could be. Reed Richards, maybe Cap. What's his name? Well, Falcon.
01:08:18
Speaker
maybe yeah maybe but i don't know none of them are as beloved as yeah none of them are as beloved as Tony Stark stark yeah right like when Tony Stark's died he figured 616 would be happening the same thing would happen like but he did say he did say the universe it takes about 10 years for a universe to collapse or something like that so maybe maybe it is maybe that's the whole reason secret wars happens we don't know what the wings see um also there's a scene when when Wade is at the TVA he's watching videos of past events in the MCU And he sees a video of, fast forward, of ah Thor standing over Loki. I mean, the scene where he in um was the second Thor movie, Dark World. world um But they replaced Loki with Deadpool. And Thor's crying over there ah over him. And Wade asks the TV agent, Paradox, ah why is Thor crying? And that's and he's he's kind of caught up on that throughout the movie. Like, why is Thor crying?
01:09:16
Speaker
Is that going to happen in the future? What's happening? And that's kind of got me caught up, too. Are we going to be seeing that scene play out in in Secret Wars? We'll have to wait and see. Secret Wars or or five, if they ever announce it or whatever. Yeah, it could be coming up soon. And he was real interested in that, too, where he's like, I'm being hugged by Thor. Yes. Yeah, right. um There's a great Will Smith. Keep Canada. Keep my country's name out of your fucking mouth. Joke. Yes. What's great. um Deadpool's Loki season 2 episode 5 fourth wall break was great when they bring when they bring up a lieth Who's the the big smoke monster in the void? They're multiple multiple punishers jokes as well being multiple character Actors have played that character, but the void we talked about it. We'll talk about a little bit here But we do see some little bit glimpses of characters and things from the from Marvel Universe throughout the land and Of course, in the trailer, we've seen the 20th Century Fox logo. We already knew that was there. That's kind of where the dump of everything was going. Those early set photos were about that too. Early set photos too, yep. Early set photos. But would you see Thor's original comic book helmet, which we haven't seen in the film. Also, 1940's comic, Captain America Shield.
01:10:33
Speaker
um We see a Helicarrier, we see a fantastic car, one of the one of the bad guys is driving that. um We see the Red Skull's car from Captain America First Adventure. um But the characters that we see in the void, now these are all um kind of rebellious, bad villains you could kind of say. um We got Pyro, we've seen in the trailer, Sabretooth, we've seen recently in the tv TV ads. We see Juggernaut, played by a different actor, Toad, Psylocke, Is easel from first class um lady deathstroke from x2 so it's a lot of nods to the whole entire x-men franchise pretty much um
01:11:13
Speaker
There's a scene where Deadpool's in a car. We'll talk about that car scene in a minute, but there's a scene when he's in the car with Wolverine and he does this Spider-Man web shooter. Spider-Man can't be in the movie. They don't have rights to it, but it's just kind of their way to have a nod to Spider-Man. Of course, that's what everybody wants to see is Deadpool and And Wolverine's getting pissed off at him. but the car fight scene was there's a scene in this car in the and beginning of the movie you find out that we kind of give up his superhero powers our superhero-ness and became a car salesman with peter and he's selling cars and he's in this one car in the void and they're driving it around
01:11:55
Speaker
and During they're they're hitting the radio. They're beating each other up and greases. You're the one that I want plays after this big huge bloody Slice them and dice them seen and towards the end it lasts all night and the next morning um Wolverine has wrapped Wade completely up in seat belts. Yes There's blood all over the car windows are knocked out huge huge brawl is awesome. Um, I At one point, Wade says, I'm Marvel Jesus. MJ, if you're nasty, I thought that was hilarious. um ah We'll get into some of the cameos in a minute. I should have put that down there. um But there's also a sling ring, which I brought up last week, which has a time stone and reality stone.
01:12:39
Speaker
um um ah Cassandra Nova said it's from an amateur magician. We're thinking it could be strange, but it could be any member of of a comatose, whatever that is, in Doctor Strange world. um Logan now wears a costume since the divorce. to hide his dad bod. I thought that was pretty funny and that also is a nod towards the end when when the costume comes off and you see his abs. um And at the very end of the movie, it's going to go forward a little bit, but um Wade and Wolverine are sitting on a sidewalk getting shwarma and this he says to he says to Wolverine, you know, the Avengers, they discovered shwarma and it really didn't make it a lexicon in geek culture and in throw-up pop culture at the time. but yeah
01:13:26
Speaker
um So let's talk about what everybody wants to talk about are the cameos in this movie. The ones that matter. um Very beginning of the movie, we see Happy Hogan. Wade Wilson goes back to Earth-616, which is the main MCU universe, May 14, 2018. It was just a few days before the snap. um So happy Hogan sitting in and it's probably Starks mansion or somewhere being a secretary um And he has a meeting with Wade Wade wants to become an Avenger Yes, and throughout throughout this office. We see a whole bunch of Marvel Easter eggs from Iron Man Of course, he's the Iron Man still alive. um We see Iron Man helmets We see the Captain America shield from Iron Man to to we see the cards from Avengers that Coulson has Captain America on them
01:14:13
Speaker
Um, but we also see a picture from homecoming of tony stark the picture of spider-man blocked out because again They can't show spider-man but they do put the helmet From ironman 2 you remember that the kid that has the ironman 2 in ironman 2 that has the he puts the hand up and he Has the ironman helmet. Yeah during the big battle at the end and everybody says that's peter parker when he was a kid Well, they put that they put that same ironman helmet right in front of the picture of peter parker yeah Kind of as a nod without having spider-man. I thought that was really cool um And at the very end he mentions where's the where's the big guy mentioning? Where's Tony Stark? He says so I guess he's joking about not being able though to have to afford the cameo ah Very funny. um Of course, ah that was the beginning of the movie. It was a missed opportunity I think if he had met Tony Stark in the hallway or an after credits, you know would been great too, but it didn't happen really cool. Yeah It would have cost them a lot of money to have them in there. yeah um But they get to the void. They're sent to the void by the TVA because Deadpool and and Wolverine are not doing what Paradox sent them to do is to get this Wolverine um who he thinks is a fuck up Wolverine. and And they send him to the void, which if you've seen Loki 2, that's where all the all the trash go. yeah And the very first person that they meet when they get there is a masked figure.
01:15:34
Speaker
And the mask comes off and it reveals Chris Evans. us we've We've heard rumors he was going to be in this movie. um And Deadpool is Captain America. yeah can't He's like, oh, yes, Captain America. Say it. Say the thing. Say the thing. He's thinking he's going to say Avengers Assemble. And all of a sudden he says, flame on, turns into a human towards right and has his Fantastic Four costume you on. Great, great. Not of course. We knew that was going to happen. Deadpool starts to say it with him and he's like, Avengers, oh, what the fuck? Yep. A lot of great moments like that, yeah. um And then we get into the end of this scene. We've already talked about the villains. They've gone met Cassandra Nova, and they know there's this group out on the outskirts outer outer outskirts of the Void that that are all kind of the rebellions. Everybody that's kind of rebelling against Cassandra Nova. And we find out who these characters are. Wade and Deadpool and Wade and Wolverine are out looking for them.
01:16:33
Speaker
um The first one we see is Elektra. She has a lot of digs at Daredevil in this too. The joke about that as well. Where's Daredevil? He's dead. ah Oh well. um And then we see Wesley Snipes' Blade coming back. And of course you kind of mentioned this earlier in the podcast that when we talked about it, but Wade Wilson, I mean ah ryan ryan what Ryan Reynolds has talked publicly about how much of a bad time he had on filming, was it Blade 3, right? And how Wesley said he was a complete dickhead, and how he treated everyone, and that was when Ryan Reynolds early in his career, so he had no pull whatsoever. He just had to roll with the punches, and it looks like Wesley needed to get out of his tax situation again, so he needed the extra money, and he decided to come back his blade and patch things up with Ryan.
01:17:27
Speaker
Yeah, but yeah, it was awesome to see him come back. Yeah, he and of course, I mean you have this a love letter to the Fox universe. One and only played you'll ever see. Yep. And they talk they talk more about um Also, there's a Wanda Maximoff statue stone statue in this cave. I thought I wanted to bring that up um Yeah, the the blade reboot joke and they're in a car talking about yeah I'll be I'm the only blade I'm gonna be and and Wade kind of looks at the camera and does a nod a lot of camera nods in this I thought it was really cool. I'm breaking the fourth wall, but then we meet
01:18:04
Speaker
We see a card flying out of this hallway, the next member of this team. This is what made me change my underwear. Yes, and the card comes flying and then we see Channing Team come out, full comic accurate version of Gambit. Oh, so My favorite part of the movie is him and and how he played and doing that voice. And I've been ninety days voice doing the voice for like four years ever since I told you I saw a video. I'm like, I know I didn't make it up. Like I couldn't find it on YouTube anywhere that he finally comes out. He knows the voice. I'm like, oh, so perfect.

Gambit's Justice in X-Men Universe

01:18:39
Speaker
Yeah, they had to entertain him as gambit full costume right out of the comic books right out of X-Men the animated series um Of course Kevin Feige is a huge fan of that um yeah This is kind of a retribution for him because he had a whole movie a whole movie that's gonna happen um not only that but a retribution for the character like You talk about Deadpool being in retribution to that character after the fuck up in X-Men Origins. Gambit for me has been a favorite character since the animated series. That was completely fucked up in that movie. Right, which sucks because I Taylor Kitsch. I love him. And they just didn't really put any care into that. But character the the action, the way the cards exploded, everything, this the staff, everything that Gambit when he was fighting in this was outstanding.

Touching Moment: X-23 and Wolverine

01:19:23
Speaker
yeah um And the very last member of this but this group is, we've seen in the TV shots lately, is X-23 Laura, who's from Logan, the clone of Wolverine, and very cool emotional scene when she sees that Wolverine there. um By the way, not a lot of Wolverines have made it in the void. um They didn't, Cassandra Nova was like, I always wanted to get one of you. um but but he did But this Wolverine did show up there. Met Laura. This is definitely the Laura from the Logan universe. We're not sure how she got there because the Logan universe hasn't been wiped out yet. We're not sure how she got there. But it's definitely her. Definitely her.
01:20:06
Speaker
um I wanted to bring this up because I didn't want to do it in the full podcast because it's spoilers. But last night at Comic Con, after the panel, the whole entire cast of Cameos came out after the movie. That's what we were kind of handed to when we were talking about it. But the whole entire cast came out, did a bow to the audience, which is I thought it was kind of cool.

Deadpool Variants and Humor

01:20:27
Speaker
um And then we get into the Deadpool core. A whole group of Deadpools from multiple variants from multiple universes. um We'll talk about a few of them here, but there was one that kind of looked like a samurai haircut wearing no mask Ryan Reynolds. They called him next pool in this. Yes. At one point- Hit regenerate. Found that out. Yep. That was incredible. But at one point Deadpool tells him that he gives him a Van Wilder jab.
01:20:56
Speaker
And he's like, oh, I can do fourth ball breaks, too. And he looks at the camera and he says, the proposal. And then he just slowly turns his head away. That was great. That's funny as fuck. um ah You see a cowboy Deadpool later on, it was revealed that it was a voice. not Not there wasn't much of a voice to it, but Matthew McConaughey did the voice of that. um Blake Lively did the voice of Lady Deadpool. That would rumor it was either that or Taylor Swift, it was Blake. um Headpool, the floating head of Deadpool, Skull, yeah was Nathan Fillion. Kidpool was voiced by Ryan and Blake's daughter, Inez. And Dogpool, aka Mary Puppins, was my favorite part of this movie.
01:21:40
Speaker
The way that he, Deadpool, and Dogpool make out in this movie is fucking funny as hell. And also, Peter is a Deadpool, too. He comes in, saves the day. And all the Deadpools see Peter and are like, oh, this is Peter. We love Peter. And it kind of gets him off a Deadpool. Yeah, every universe has a Peter. You have C-3PO and Return of the Jedi when they're all about to be equipped up by the Ewoks. Yeah, it's like god that they all like respect so they stop that like it obviously still from that but that's where it reminded me of and I like that turn of Peter Yep, but yeah, we see also we see hunter b-15 from Loki. She was in this um Overall let's get into to what we think of this movie totally. I mean the villains were kind of man not fully fleshed out Cassandra Nova and
01:22:34
Speaker
Although her history in the comic books is she is the twin sister of ah Charles x Xavier was never explored in the movies.

Cassandra Nova's Character Depth

01:22:41
Speaker
um She's a she's a variant that was sent here kind of has a deal with the TVA to run the place down there run the void. She hasn't been she hasn't been sucked up by a life. She has her own kind of mercenaries there. um But she there wasn't really much background to her story other than like she kind of she She kind of hates x Xavier, but we're not sure why. She didn't really know Xavier. um She's killed a couple of them. about the Yeah. in the wound together stuff like that And then also we had ah we had a lot of the lot of the henchmen or old villains from X-Men, which were already been villains before. The Sabretooth battle literally took one more second than the TV shot showed, killed him immediately, ah chopped his head off with his claws. um I will say,
01:23:31
Speaker
That being said, villains the villains are bad. Paradox ends up being a kind of semi a villain, um kind of taking over this group of TVA Asians to create some sort of a paradox in in the time, and in the multiverse.

Deadpool and Wolverine in the MCU

01:23:45
Speaker
um However, that all that being said, this was by far a Deadpool and Wolverine movie. So, and having that time to flush out those characters is definitely what this movie needed. We got two major characters from the Fox universe coming into the MCU for the very first time, need to be flushed out. The movie did a perfect job of that. um Wolverine did not break the fourth wall. I was kind of worried if that was going to happen because a couple of the shots and pro's that did show that happen didn't happen, thank God.
01:24:15
Speaker
um But Deadpool humor just as good as wanted to Sometimes if not better because they opened up the MCU box and of course all the stuff happening with the MCU being being Being looked at now is multiversal failure Especially box office wise joking about that was incredible Sean Levy the director of this movie who directed fall guy fall guy got free guy and project adam Adam the two movies the the two movies we did Ryan Reynolds a couple years ago um He directed this movie. He has an eye for action, man I need a shot in the arm for the MCU and welcome addition to the creative team at Marvel if he ends up going because the rumors is of course Him giving the X-Men Sandbox.

Soundtrack's Role in the Film

01:25:04
Speaker
Yeah, he may end up given what what's his name was supposed to do until quantum mania suck balls. Yeah He might end up doing a lot of that stuff, too
01:25:13
Speaker
um The music in this movie placed perfectly we went over the soundtrack. I'm gonna go a little bit over a more opening sequence of this movie and sinks bye-bye-bye Disney doesn't I mean Daredevil does a whole entire dance sequence while he's killing people with Logan's bones. We've got Glamorous by Fergie. Iris by Google Dolls plays a lot in this. ah Power of Love by Huey Lewis was a great... And great in the background waszar was it I Need New Drug or one of the other Huey Lewis songs? It was.
01:25:45
Speaker
but that over um I'm with you by Avril Lavigne You're the one that I want was one of my favorite scenes in the car. Yeah But my favorite and by far Was the greatest show right before you're the one that I want they play that song very very few Maybe five seconds of that song and of course, that's Hugh Jackman doing that song in the movie So it's very cool um at the very end. They play good riddance time of your life We'll get into that in the after credits and mid credits scene. Um
01:26:17
Speaker
But, we'll get into it right now, actually I have it next in the notes, but one final pop culture hit to the jugular in the mid-credits scene, we see a montage of the X-Men past, um starting way back with Blade, and going all the way up to X-Men Apocalypse, X-Men Dark Phoenix. um With time your life playing in the background and I know you know this the Seinfeld finale That was played during the montage at

Mid-Credits Scene with Chris Evans

01:26:42
Speaker
the end of that too. So it's kind of not a no to pop culture. Not it Wasn't just like there. It wasn't just like stress in the movie too. It was like all the vaccine stuff Yeah, behind the scenes yeah, yeah, very cool stuff, which is awesome Ryan Reynolds talking about playing Deadpool during Wolverine origins how much he liked the character Yeah, of course, we all know what happened with that. But yeah
01:27:02
Speaker
Yep, and in the very very end after the credits scene now, in the beginning of the movie, they meet up with Chris Evans, and Chris chris Evans is talking shit about Sandra Nova, but not really talk crip yeah not really talking too much about her. um When they meet Cassandra, Wade's like, wow, this guy's got a mouth of a sailor, and we think he's kind of just embellishing so Cassandra doesn't kill him, but yeah she does end up killing him. At the end of the credits, there's a camera that was in their kind of prison cell when they were bringing being brought to Cassandra, and Wade goes to the TVA, finds the feed of this video, and plays it, and it shows Chris Evans' callback to the scene just swearing like a fucking sailor.
01:27:47
Speaker
and yeah calling her every word under the book. It was great. um And it was great also not to have an after-credits stinger that had any relation to anything going on in the future, which we haven't seen in a while for marvel for a Marvel movie not promoting something going forward. um But cameos we didn't get. We didn't get any X-Men, which I'm really shocked. We got villains, oh no X-Men characters. We got what's his name, the flame guy from X-2. We got like a flame guy from X-2, who was a good guy to begin with. But none of the actual members of the X-Men is what I'm talking about. I figured there was a mention of, oh, we're going to wait till the third act flashback to get kind of the history of why Wolverine is such a bad guy in this universe, or why everybody in this universe hates him, and what happened. We didn't get that flashback. I thought maybe he would find the bodies of the X-Men or something. Yeah, I was surprised. Yeah, we never really... And also, we didn't talk about that, but Wolverine in his universe was a drunk. And he kind of, he wasn't there when the X-Men died. Which is weird, because I thought Wolverine couldn't get drunk. So that's like something that kind of threw me off, because I believe it was in one of the other X-Men movies, it might have been Origins, they might have been just not paying attention to that. But I feel like he was drinking once, he just like can't get drunk, like Superman can't get drunk.
01:29:09
Speaker
yeah What we're now is that couldn't get drunk. But apparently he can. Well in that universe especially because when he was drunk he wasn't there at the X mansion and the humans went and revolted against the mutants and ended up killing all the mutants and he wasn't there to save them. um And then he went rampaged, he found out later in the movie he went rampaged and killed not only the ones that killed the mutants but he ended up killing some innocent people too so he kind of looked at it as a messiah in his universe. um That's kind of why Paradox was like this is not the Wolverine we need to bring balance, we need an actual, any other Wolverine would have do done but this one is the worst one you could have picked.
01:29:43
Speaker
um But it's the only one that had a comic acy comic accurate suit, the yellow and blue. so yeah um Let's talk about the problems that I have with this with

Impact of Leaks and Over-Promotion on Film Surprises

01:29:52

this movie. and It's not the problems with the movie itself, it's the problem with the promotion. The leak problem. I knew pretty much every cameo going forward, the only one we didn't know about was Henry Cavill. but Blade Wesley Snipes we knew about and Electra we knew about in the very beginning I think variety or Hollywood reporter both announced that they were part of the cast Probably a publicist release that and I don't know Yeah, the leak problem is what I had a problem with knowing all the characters ahead of time We knew about we knew about everything but Cavill pay much in I didn't know about you about that or blade <unk> pay attention to that stuff. So I Yeah, Channing Tater for me was the one that was kind of like... um why Why? Why is everything being released? Why is everything leaked? If you remember Endgame, that whole entire movie with Endgame, we didn't know anything until we got to the theater what was going to happen, the plot or anything. We didn't know the five-year jump. We had no idea. and how come this How come that can't happen any any anymore? I don't know. Also, Marvel's trailer problem. They should have stopped at the first trailer.

Also the in the TV everything in the last couple of weeks We got a couple of great cameos would have been great to see in the fit in the theater X23 being the one main one I'm thinking of saber-toothed as well um Yeah, they didn't really need a promotion in this movie. Everybody's gonna see it um and also like the and Review embargo in the premiere. Why is it on Monday and Tuesday? That stuff should be done the same night that we see it Thursday night. they've already their The reviews should be coming out that night because you're already kind of having a biased look if you see the Rotten Tomatoes score or if you see what people are saying about it. It's funny though because some movies they don't get that embargo review until the day of and that's looked at as a bad thing.
01:31:36

because they want people to hike the movie. That's why they do it. Because if you if you think your movie is good enough, then you want people to go, you want the critics to talk about it and how good it it is versus if it's absolute shit. Like I'm sure the Crow embargo is probably gonna lift the death fucking Friday or like 3 p.m. on Thursday. Um, because you, you want people to be hyped for it to go into the weekend and have more excitement. And then maybe the ones that were kind of holding off hope, not buying tickets, not going to buy tickets for it where they might not have before.
01:32:06
Speaker
yeah and Yeah, it just yeah, it just sucks because there's so much there's so much there that are that can be spoiled especially for a movie like this It was those cameo filled but yeah, um, so where do these characters go from here? We've got Deadpool and Wolverine now in Deadpool's universe are back. So there's actually at this time Two Logans in this universe because at this time Logan

Deadpool and Wolverine's MCU Future

01:32:28

hasn't died. This is in current time, right? This isn't after this isn't after the movie Logan. So there's two ofverine Wolverines in this universe Um, so we're not sure if they're gonna show up in secret wars We're not sure we're gonna show up if at all I'm sure we're gonna see Deadpool in the secret wars at least probably Wolverine x23 also in this universe they brought her sauce And wolverine i hope is awesome around for a while
01:32:54
Speaker
um and I think a lot of people are going to talk about Gambit and Blade, and are they going to be coming in? Especially Gambit. Channing Tam pretty much proved like, yeah, you guys fucked up. He should have been part of this universe. um And I'm hoping maybe if they do an X-Men movie that they bring him in. I don't know how this how that'll work, but it'll be pretty cool. um And overall, the Marvel Universe multiverse implications for Phase 5 and Phase 6 Where is this going to go with Secret Wars? Are they going to be part of that Secret Wars team, battle team? um By the way, the Void is probably Battleworld after seeing it, because a lot of the background, um we saw a desert, we saw plains, we saw a forest. but The Void is everything, so it probably will be Battleworld, which will be pretty cool. But where are the overall implications going forward? Where are we going to be seeing?

Lot lots of lots of things to think about now when I left when I left the theater yesterday I was about a four and a half out of five

High Entertainment Value Despite Flaws

01:33:52

pineapples um Overnight thinking about it doing the notes for this show. I'm probably at a four and It's probably a good average and of course, it's hard to review a movie like this only seeing it one. Yes you four think about this this It's so joke heavy that you don't know if the jokes in the state the test of time You don't know, if they're gonna read a little bit um So I know what you're saying. So what's your official score? Are you going four? Official visual score is a four out of five. um Very enjoyable, very funny, lots of action, lots of great, memorable scenes, lines that we're probably going to be saying for years to come. um MJ, if you're nasty, I'm probably going to be saying for years to come. So yeah, four or five for me. ah For me, um there is one thing I want to say we didn't bring up.
01:34:35
Speaker
oh After seeing Wolverine with the white eyes, I don't ever want to see Batman with white eyes live action, unless they get a little better than that. It was cool to see and it was only like 15 minutes, but I could not do an entire Batman movie with white eyes and look like that. They'd probably have to be like CGI'd in or something like that. um That being said, Fun Factor is easily like a six out of five for me. I had a lot of fun with this movie, comedy, everything. But as I thought about it more and more, like leading the theater, I was on about a four.
01:35:07
Speaker
I'm going three and a half leaning four as a score. um I want to see it again to see if it holds up, to see if the jokes land. I'd say about 80% of the jokes land for me. oh The opening montage is just so awesome though with the using Logan's, like, bones and shit like that. um So, like, the fun factor in this movie is outstanding. And it's what we needed for Marvel, because we haven't had a fun Marvel experience in a very long time. No. Like, even Endgame was a fantastic movie, but it wasn't a very fun movie. ah Guardians is a much better, Guardians 3 was a much better movie than this, but and it, it hurt a lot. That movie told a lot of your heartstrings. But this movie was just, it was very fun. It was, it had the,
01:35:54
Speaker
had the emotion when it needed the emotion and had the the comedy hit at the right time. um Very well done by everyone. Some of the cinematography wasn't great. um The void was a little bit eh, wasn't a huge fan of the void but the cameos and everything I liked a lot. I think all those are great. They made the joke about Daredevil being dead in the universe. And he was like, I'm sorry to hear that to Elektra. And of course, she used to be married to Ben Affleck. So kind of an inside joke on that. Yes, it was. The overall, I'd say three and a half leaning four. Yeah. oh Very good movie. Way better than anything we've had outside of Guardians 3 since No Way Home. yeah um For sure. Oh, yeah.
