Introduction and Agenda Overview

00:01:26
Speaker
Welcome everyone to another week of Geek Blurb. Got a lot to talk about, a lot of stuff we watched. I'm going to start off with a quick recap of Only Murders in the Building, Episode 2 of the season. It's getting really good. Good show. If you want to get into it, it's a good time to do it. It's a weekly release on Hulu.
00:01:47
Speaker
um There is a great scene where they play the Perfect Strangers theme song, which if anybody knows this podcast knows we love theme songs, especially the old school ones.

Rings of Power: Five-Season Plan

00:01:58
Speaker
so yep um Rings of Power, Episode 4. Now we're getting into the Rings of Men, the Nine Rings of Men, which we know eventually will corrupt them in of Middle-earth. but Um, so far they've made the, uh, the dwarves. They've made the, uh, they made the elders last season. So now they're going on to the next one, which are the men. And then once that's done, Sauron will be making the one ring, which will probably be next season or the season after. What I heard this week is this series is expected to last five seasons. Um, so we can see where this ends. Uh, yeah, they announced that a while ago. So hopefully they pick it up and continue.
00:02:41
Speaker
Yeah, I know there's a lot of story to be told here. I'm not sure if we're gonna actually see the war with Sauron. We saw a glimpses of that in the beginning of Lord of the Rings, but we're definitely gonna see the beginning of that. I don't know if we're gonna see and going into that. There's certain stuff that they can use on the show that they can't they can't touch. I don't think they can touch like the Hobbit book. I don't think they can touch the Lord of the Rings books. I think that's all done by a deal with New Line. or I can't remember who has the deal now, but

Euphoria Season 2 Recap

00:03:08
Speaker
but yeah.
00:03:08
Speaker
Um So last week we talked all about euphoria season one and I got into it I said, yeah, I'm gonna watch season two and sure enough last weekend quickly went right through right through season two Um kind of sucks that we're gonna wait. ah There's there's a few reason why this sucks Sucks because we're still waiting. You're still waiting. I know you watched this a while ago. Um, we're gonna wait a little bit longer It's going into season three going into production sometime beginning of next year um And of course, there's one big Pun intended cloud that's over this whole entire show and we're gonna talk about that to the end but um There are two episodes in this season
00:03:50
Speaker
that are complete masterpiece episodes. The first one being Fesco's and Ashtray's origin episode, which you kind of hinted to last week when we were talking about it. And the grandmother was played by Catherine Narduki, who was our Carmine Buco in the Sopranos. I'll talk about the Sopranos a little bit after this, but this whole entire origin story of how Fes And Astray ended up with with ah his grandmother, or grandmother, she said, um and how she was kind of like a drug queen pin, you could say. um and yeah i mean when she got She got sick, and he ended up having to take over the whole empire. And the whole entire background was just an amazing, amazing story. um I want to see, which sucks, I want to see Fez and Lexi.
00:04:43
Speaker
they're flirting at this whole entire party and you kind of they worked so well together and by the end of the season we're going to get into it and of course we know that that Angus Cloud died um in real life so this is not going to continue anywhere but we'll get into that at the speculation at the end um Cassie and Nate this whole season have hooked up they actually end up together by the end um there's a huge bathroom tension scene where Cassie's who is Sydney Sweeney, hides in the bathtub for a whole entire time when her best friend, who she's sleeping behind her back with Nate, is in the bathroom. She has to hide be very, very quiet in the bathtub.
00:05:20
Speaker
um Rue and Jules, the end of last, the first season, um stand it they don't break up, but they kind of separate themselves.

Rue's Story Arc and Future Speculation

00:05:30
Speaker
um Their love story that was played out throughout the first season kind of ended abruptly at the at the end when Rue didn't get on the the train, and Jules did. They reunite in this episode. um And at the very, very, very end of this episode, because he wants to protect his family, who was Rue,
00:05:48
Speaker
and Jewel, he doesn't call her Jules, he calls her Jewel. Fez beats the fuck out of Nate at the end of this episode. He's flirting with Lexi the whole entire time on the couch. He gets up to leave and he just beats and knocks the fuck out of Nate. This was a great- That was so satisfying, so satisfying. Great episode, masterpiece episode of this series. And we'll get into the next one, episode five in a few minutes, but this whole entire series has to do with drug use since Ru who is played by Zendaya her drug use from the beginning she's in high school she's a drug addict addict she's in rehab the rehab rehab is helping a little bit then she goes back off the path and starts to use again um the the depiction of her reality breaking
00:06:34
Speaker
Um, the TV viewer can easily get lost in the truth and she has visions. You can actually, you can get lost in those watching this show because she's seen these things. She's seen these visions throughout the whole entire series. Um, and this is no, and this is no different in season two. Um, her drug use goes rampant.
00:06:50
Speaker
And then we get to episode five, which is the other best episode of this series. Um, and it may not even be close. It could be the best episode that they've done so far. This is Rue and her life is completely crashing. And her mother finds out that she's doing drug. Jules tells everyone that she's on drugs again. And you just see her heart wrenching breakdown as she's running through the city, trying to run away from her problems, literally running away.
00:07:17
Speaker
um Also, Ru tells everyone that Nate and Cassie are hooking up, and that has a whole ramifications for the rest of the season as well. um I gotta tell you, all these actors are fantastic in this show, but this episode was great. great um yeah Another relationship that I want to see is Coleman Domingo's Ali and Ru's mom. I want to see them together. um They're kind of hinting towards it throughout this ah this season as well.
00:07:42
Speaker
um The finale was a play by Lexi. She was doing the play. She's kind of an outsider looking into everything. So she's doing this play about all of her friends and family. um And she ends up pissing off her sister. Her sister interrupts the play. Roo loves it because she's seeing her life play out on stage and she's she's actually it's almost like inter-reflecting of everything that's going on with her. um By the end of this episode, the last episode of the series, everything kind of finishes up most of the storylines. Like if they were to end on season two, they could, except for one exception.
00:08:21
Speaker
And that's Fez going to jail. And also, Ashtray, spoiler, if you've never seen it, sorry, Ashtray gets killed in a gun down, which is something, it could be better than a lot of fucking action movies and a lot of stand-downs I've ever seen in a movie. Ashtray, in a bathroom, in a bathtub with tons of machine guns, as the cops are coming in and raiding Fez's and Ashtray's house. And it's just incredible. And of course, Ashtray gets gunned down, but Fez goes to jail. He he gets shot.
00:08:55
Speaker
He's bleeding out, but he gets arrested and angus cloud dies in real life. So where does this go now? um This is really but besides like maybe you want to see ruin jewels and how their relationship will develop And they've already said that what I've heard is that season three is going to be a five year jump. Is that when you kind of gather to it two five years they told you that yeah it's gonna be a fiveyear jump ah five year Five year jump ahead into the future. They're going to be out of high school. When it releases, it'll be five years since the last season anyways. Right, right.
00:09:26
Speaker
um So yeah, five years after after high school, probably ah for a lot of them after college, if they go. um But the death of an Angus Cloud is going to be hard to watch season three because he was yeah one of the best characters on the show. If not TV all the time. He's amazing. He was the one to root for on the show. There's no one else to root for.
00:09:52
Speaker
And just the way he played the character, and I know that must be him in real life, but just the way that he played is so natural, so nonchalant, I guess you could say. um it was just It was just great. And it sucks and he's not and that he's not around anymore to to continue this story because he could have done a fantastic job in his season 3. It sucks. It really does suck.
00:10:15
Speaker
um and shit and the mean And the main question I have is should there be a season three now that he's gone? I mean, I guess maybe it should be a movie like why do we need a full season to tell the story continue this unless they just I mean, let's be honest It's the one of the biggest I think it's like the top out of all the shows that ever were top ratings makers for HBO I think it's number four behind Game of Thrones House of Dragon in the and the land the Last of Us I believe that's what I read. Even above Sopranos. So the show does huge numbers for HBO so I can see why they want to do a whole season, but talking story-wise, like, where could this show go from here?
00:10:52
Speaker
um And now all of these people are stars so the budget cost unless they're signed up for a third season priorly prior for Whatever they first signed up for the first deal for the show, and I just know HBO is known Maybe not so much now, but they're known for not paying their actors. They used to be back in the day I'm not sure if they are anymore, but everyone on the show is almost A-list, close to A-list now. um Especially Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney is and and Jacob Ellery, they're all they're all top stars. Also expected to come back too. The only one that's not coming back is Barbie, what's her name, and I can't remember her name on the show, she's the she'sy overweight girl. And she didn't make an announcement that she's not coming back. But everybody else seems to be coming back wanting to kind of
00:11:42
Speaker
close up all the loose ends. um To me, Fez was the only loose end. And maybe maybe maybe Ru and Jules' relationship seeing where it would be in five years if they're even talking. We're not even sure where that's

The Sopranos: Documentary and Nostalgia

00:11:55
Speaker
gonna go, but. I mean, typically, for as far as paying them goes,
00:11:59
Speaker
People sign up for TV shows for like seven years basically it seems like there's like the deal which is why you can't do anything else which is why like you have Elle from Stranger Things talking about how she hates the fact that she can't do anything because she's currently trying to do a TV show and Zadai I believe she's like the main producer on this show she is like this is like her baby so she's obviously getting paid one way or the other um They probably I'm sure they have to renegotiate some contracts after they have to everyone kind of got blown up But uh, yeah, cuz for the most part people look they have the they have the money for the budget So I don't know they're too worried for the most part everybody before the show started was this 2018 was an unknown So now everybody's known everybody's on the top of the movie list for for yep for movies movie casting so um and like you said the schedules finding the schedule to get all of these superstars online to do a
00:12:51
Speaker
whole entire series is going to be hard, but they're, they're all committed to it. So. Like I said, they waited on Atlanta for like three years and they just filmed seasons four, three and four back to back and just released them at the same time. And that whole, that whole show has a ton of superstars after that, after that show aired. So, um, speaking of HBO, now that we're done with euphoria and I cannot wait to see season three of that, but speaking of HBO, uh, brand new documentary came out called wise guy, David Chase and the Sopranos.
00:13:20
Speaker
This is on HBO Max as well. um Two parts, two part um ah documentary. um And if we talk, I know you've watched Sopranos last year. I watched it four years ago. I think it was two years ago. Yeah, I watched it four years ago. Like two years ago. The very first time we we weren't we weren't into it when we were younger, got into it later. um Show was great. David Chase did something ah mostly mostly movies would do and he made this big huge gangster gangster drama with a lot of comedy.
00:13:49
Speaker
A lot of humor in it, but um this talks about basically his life and and creating the Sopranos um and talks a lot about James Gandalfini and how that role took a toll on him. I don't know if you had a chance to watch this or not, but it's really good. I watched the first episode and because I was planning to watch him because you said we were going out to later and then you backed off on that. So I got like probably 20 minutes into the second one.
00:14:12
Speaker
Okay. I mean, yeah, that's it. I wasn't supposed to be a comedy, but what's his name just kept being so funny that they just yeah kind of become a comedy holly at points. Polly. Polly. Polly, that was amazing. That's where I left off. Yeah. yeah But um yeah, overall, it's a great documentary. It's on HBO. It's very good. yeah um And it makes i made me want to watch the season. I started season one again this week. I'm on episode five. So it's just it's just one of those shows. You see this type of show or this type of story being told in a movie, like Goodfellas, like Godfather.
00:14:41
Speaker
um You don't see it played out through this long, long format of a TV show lasting seven seasons, so um it's great. um So we are in week two of football movies, and I've watched two. The first one I'm going to talk about is the one I watched when it came out. I think it may have been seen in the theater. It was The Waterboy.

Film Reviews: The Waterboy and School Ties

00:15:00
Speaker
It's something I've already seen before.
00:15:01
Speaker
Adam Sandler, this was his third Happy Madison movie after Happy happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, The Wedding Singer, and then this. um So this is 1998. The one thing I remember about this, I just got into wrestling.
00:15:17
Speaker
and Captain Insano the big show or at the time it it was um it was the giant in WCW because he was in WCW at the time um he had a little cameo in there and I remember that because I just got into wrestling a few months before this came out I think this came out in like November of 1998 so we were just getting into freshmen's in high school but great weird on paper weird fucking movie this is a this is the accident that he puts on but there's a lot of heart and you can say a lot of what you will about Adam Sandler he has a lot of heart in his movies even with the wacky voices even with the wackiness of the characters um he has a lot of heart in there and this has it as well
00:15:58
Speaker
Kathy Bates plays his mother. I can't remember her name, but she plays Vicki Valancourt. She's also in The Craft. um She plays a witch in that. She's very witchy in this as well, but um this is a good movie. But I wanted to watch something I'd never seen before. I don't know if you've ever seen this movie or not. School Ties. ah Came out in 1992. Yeah, I kind of figured you may have. Came out in 1992. Mostly known for all the actors that got their start in this movie.
00:16:24
Speaker
um mainly being Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. I think the only thing in the credits they did before this is they were extras in Field of Dreams. Other than that, this is the first movie they did in 1992, starring Brendan Fraser, Chris O'Donnell, Nicole Howser, who is known now for Yellowstone,
00:16:46
Speaker
but it's set in Massachusetts in 1955. um and talks all about the anti-Semitism in America at the time. What's in Ben Affleck in Voyage of the Mimi? but he was like he was yeah He was in that and he was also in, before this around this time, he was in um around Richmont High too. He played the guy with the paddle that smacked everybody's asses. It was around this time, too. I think Cole Howser made it in that movie, too. But um this is a really, really good movie. um Like I mentioned, talks about anti-Semitism in America. um This kid, he lives in Scranton, Pennsylvania, played by Brendan Fraser. He gets a scholarship and at his senior year in high school to play for a football team in a school in Massachusetts. This is all filmed in Salem.
00:17:33
Speaker
Worcester um I can't remember the whole bunch of a whole bunch of towns near here, but But yeah, it was very very good movie um And Chris O'Donnell this is one of his first movies big movies too because after this of course he did Batman he did um a Batman forever a few years after this so and Matt Damon Ben Affleck of course after this did the huge like goodwill hunting run and then dogma and everything else and their whole careers went skyrocketed so um very good movie and So, last week, we also talked about Alien, because we're getting ready, I'm getting ready to watch Alien Romulus.

Alien Series Retrospective

00:18:06
Speaker
I don't know when this is gonna come out. Um, but I'm getting prepared, so I watched the first four Aliens with Sigourney Weaver last week, talked about it, and how Alien Resurrection kind of went downhill. Um, then we get into 2004, and they decided to make another Alien movie about six years after Resurrection. However,
00:18:28
Speaker
2002 go back in a couple of years James Cameron was ready to make another alien movie um The origin you want to talk the origin about the alien creatures how they came to be You also want to talk about the space jockey, which is the beginning of the alien movie the big tall guy um but Fox had other plans and they turned the script into a predator versus alien showdown and And James Cameron didn't want anything to do with him. He was done. He dropped out of the project pretty quickly. um And the direct quote to me, that was Frankenstein meets Werewolf. It was Universal just taking their assets and and starting to play them against off against each other, milking it. um And he walked away completely and was, quote, unwilling to deal with the studio's attempt to influence the potential sequel because they were having a lot of
00:19:21
Speaker
say at that time studio we always talk about a studio at that especially back then in the nineties had their hands in everything creatively and and later on that changed the creatives go to actual creative people that instead of people sitting in desks but um Also Arnold Schwarzenegger almost reprised his role um but then he won the governorship in California at the same exact time so he didn't show up in the movie. Sigourney Weaver flat out told him that she would not return saying the concept sounded awful.
00:19:54
Speaker
um Alien vs. Predator and after hearing a potential crossover years before well I think she lost she was filming Resurrection and she said the reason I wanted my character to die in that movie for the first place would be because of Alien vs. Predator. so um This is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. um He directed Mortal Kombat. All the Resident and Evil films I think except for two. um Death Race remake in Pompeii. And Lance Hendrickson returned as Mr. Weyland.
00:20:21
Speaker
And of course, you know Whelan Corp is the one that does all the spaceship and everything um He is kind of the human origin of Bishop. This was retcons. We're gonna get into that in a minute um And this all shows Whelan Industries in modern time. This goes back This goes back to her current time at the time 2004 showing all of these people in Alaska trying to break down trying to find this ancient ancient
00:20:51
Speaker
Pyramid under the ah under the ice where the predator kind of had all this Weird games going on to try to see who was strong enough to kill the aliens is a weird story Although I did like this movie until the ending ending was weird. um I was actually surprised how much I like this movie really but um And then we get to 2007 and They decided to make another Alien movie called Alien vs. Predator Requiem. Requiem. Requiem. Requiem. Requiem. And the only thing that we know so far is Samur Lowe from True Blood, isn't it? Um, a young Sean Spencer, the good young Sean Spencer from Psych. And Rickety Cricket from, um, it's always sunny in Philadelphia. However, this movie is known for the Alien-Predator hybrid.
00:21:46
Speaker
who they call the predalien, that's what they call him I guess, but that's what he looks like right there. It's kind of half alien, half a half predator because the alien impregnates one of the aliens at the end of the first movie and that's what gets birthed right there in that slot. This movie was trash. um And it's the reason why the next movie was made pretty much and why Ridley Scott came back and decided, yeah, I want to take this over and I want to do the origin that we're talking about 10 years ago. I want to go back and I want to actually do that. So that's exactly what he did. um After all the spinoffs, all the subpar movies, he comes back to direct.
00:22:28
Speaker
and tell the story, and also tell the story in deeper dive into the space jockey, who was that giant alien creature in the beginning of the first Alien movie that was in the spaceship. Before production, the crew started to distance the film from the previous Alien film. At first he said it was a prequel to Aliens, and then they started distancing it from that too, being vague about the connection, because he wanted everybody to believe and build up the audience anticipation of the movie. I remember when I watched this, it was like everybody was questioning, is this a prequel to Alien? and He's kind of saying it's in the universe, but it's not. This is before I wasn't even really into Alien. I think we may have watched Alien 1 together. He made me watch it. um So I knew that that i knew that was the speculation was. This is a prequel. Nobody really knew until you saw the movie, especially the end of the movie. um This is co-written by Damon Lindelof. I know you talk about that all the time.
00:23:17
Speaker
Um, he actually went in to rewrite it. Um, he's of course, and the guy who wrote it, John Spates, Spates, uh, he wrote Dune part one and two, Passengers and Dr. Strange was his notable writings as well. Um, Michael Fassbender comes in playing the character David.
00:23:32
Speaker
um Guy Pierce is Peter Whelan CEO. This is the retcon I was talking about. This is the original origin of the Whelan foundation this time It's just Alba Charlie's Theron No me replace who was the foreign dragon tattoo movies. I think the Norwegian ones um She wasn't in the American one Benedict Wong was in this movie and Patrick Wilson had a very very very small cameo um and In the beginning of the movie as well um The title card brought back to the Alien format from the first movies where where it slowly comes in and tells and and and shows the title card. I thought that was pretty cool.
00:24:11
Speaker
This movie is set between 1989 and 2093 within that four-year period um talking about the engineers, faith, and God. That's basically what the movie is about. um and ah where Who the gods? How were we put on Earth? um The viral campaign of this movie started off with this picture. um This was put in the New York Post and New York Times, I believe, of David.
00:24:36
Speaker
ah Yeah, it's a it's a whale in promotion of this robot that you can buy. That's what they're promoting in the magazine. But I thought that was pretty cool. But this movie was really, really good. and I remember seeing it in the theater with you because we saw it in the theater and it was very good. And I didn't understand much at the time and especially the next movie. I didn't understand anything.
00:24:57
Speaker
So this is the whole reason why I'm doing this. Watch everything. The whole picture came together when I saw this movie because everything connected, especially the space jockeys, especially everything with the next movie, which was which was Alien Covenant. This came out five years later, 2017. Ridley Scott returning to direct, ah Michael Fassbender returning as David, and a new Android, Walter.
00:25:20
Speaker
um Guy Ritchie has a quick cameo in the beginning of the movie um and Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, jim franco James cameos. This is set a decade after Prometheus, or not a decade, a decade after Prometheus, 2104. Prometheus has gone missing, the ship in the beginning of the the first movie.
00:25:44
Speaker
um and Yeah, very very good story. Now that I see everything, I understand a lot more. and i I kind of want to see where this story would go. However, Fox got bought out by Disney. Direction went differently with Romulus. And I know Alien Earth is in the next project coming out on Disney Plus next year.
00:26:07
Speaker
But we were talking about these movies and what was the highest grossing of these all these films. Prometheus was the big one. $402 million. dollars Alien Romulus last last month was $314 million a couple months ago. um Alien Covenant was $238 million. no I'm not sure if this includes inflation or not. Definitely not. The first Alien movie, $186 million. Aliens, $183 million.
00:26:34
Speaker
um So on, so forth, I won't get it all out. But just this week, Alien Romulus grossed $314 million, so I cannot wait to see that movie. I'm very excited. And these are my rankings for the movies. I know you talked about your Alien rankings not too long ago.
00:26:48
Speaker
um These are my rankings. I have Aliens No. 1, Alien No. 2, Prometheus No. 3, Alien, I believe that's Covenant No. 4, Alien vs. Predator No. 5, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, and Alien vs. Predator Requiem is the very, very end of that.
00:27:09
Speaker
was horrible I just um said some quick math the first alien really would have made 800 million dollars and was released in today's time with inflation um Just I just wanted I just wanted to do that for my own thought process there. Um, yeah, my ranking is Alien aliens kind of tied. I'll go alien no more aliens Romulus three Prometheus our Covenant and Yeah, the rest. yeah the Yeah, the rest because they're all like, you know, three is very nostalgic for me. So that's why I like the only three so much more extremely nostalgic. um First one, I saw I see that in theaters or I saw it right after it came out of theaters. But I love that movie, even though it's fucking trash. I still enjoy it.
00:27:59
Speaker
i Can't believe alien. I can't believe alien resurrection got made. That's how bad that movie is. Oh, that movie is awful It's it's very bad. And I just can't believe I ever got made especially the direction and everything but um, so that's it for our alien talk and we'll we'll continue this a little later on when we talk about Alien Romulus, hopefully that I'll come out soon speaking of that The crow came out on digital today I know we're going to do a deep dive in that next month as well, including all the older crow movies, ah which I will be doing a watch of, but another movie that we're going to give an actual score to.

Rebel Ridge Review and The Apprentice Trailer

00:28:36
Speaker
This came out on Netflix this week called Rebel Ridge.
00:28:39
Speaker
um starring a newcomer, Aaron Pierre. Nobody knows, I'm gonna put this picture up now because the speculation of everybody wants him to play Green Lantern. And I have this side-by-side picture that it would just look incredible. um And Chris Pine, we'll talk about the the the Green Lantern news later, but I know you talked about Chris pin Pine being an impossible player for this movie, playing Hal Jordan. But John Stewart, played by this Aaron Pierre who did a fantastic job in this movie,
00:29:11
Speaker
and Anna Sofia Rob the only other movie or two movies I know her of was Berta Terabithia when she was really young and then not too long after that she did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the remake with Johnny Depp this also starred Don Johnson of David Denman who was Roy from The Office um James con Cromwell was in Babe he's in a whole bunch of other movies too um and Dana Lee who was the owner of the, and it's called your enthusiasm, he's the owner of the golf club that gets in fights with larry Larry David all the time. yeah This movie was a great action movie.
00:29:47
Speaker
um I think it surprised a lot of people because number one, it was on Netflix, didn't not come out in theaters. um The star is an unknown, but he did a fantastic job. He was really, really good. um The movie itself may have had a lot of problems in the story. However, I think his performance is going to make him a superstar. That's why speculation of Green Lantern came up this week.
00:30:10
Speaker
because he just plays it off so well. um For me this movie was a 4 out of 5 and i think I can't wait to see what what um what other movies this guy's gonna do. um I think it was very good.
00:30:22
Speaker
Yeah, I give it a 4 out of 5 also. um My favorite scenes aren't even the action scenes. I watched it twice this week. I watched it last Friday and then I watched it again the other night. My favorite scenes are just him talking to Don Johnson or any of the cops. Yeah. Like it's very well done. We're very well written. And when I watched it last week, I was like, I know I've seen this guy. So like 20 minutes into the movie, IMDB'd it. He was in that little show about Superman's grandfather, Krypton.
00:30:46
Speaker
I was like, oh, that's what I've seen him before. He played somebody on like the the council, the war council. Interesting. Because ah there's something, his eyes, something about his eyes is like, you don't forget his eyes, like looking at him, like the way they just stand out. And I'm like, I've seen this guy before. So I had to look it up and that's what he was in. And he's going to do some other small stuff. But of course, replace John Boyega, like starting production, all that stuff. In this movie? Nailed it. In this movie?
00:31:12
Speaker
i i didn't know that I had no idea that was yeah movie this movie. They started filming with John Boyega in this movie, and there was some situation. yeah and um I don't know if he had a family situation or what, but he left like after a few weeks, and then this guy came in, Aaron Pierre, and just fucking knocked it out of the park. I can't imagine and i like john bad guy i can't imagine him being in this movie.
00:31:34
Speaker
Like it would have been a completely different film. All a different movies. It would have been very different. yeah I'm just thinking i'm just thinking that now how different that movie would have been. yeah very good Very good movie. on this is This is on Netflix called Rebel Ridge. um Hunt It Down. Very good. i the Usually a movie you hear about this in the theater but Netflix gets all the exclusives so very good. yeah um Did you end up watching Killer's Game? Did you get to the movies today? I did not get to do it. I was exhausted. I went to bed when I got home. That's cool. so That's cool. We'll talk about it when we when we see it. But um that did come out this that last week with Dave Batista. And we do want to see that. So with that being said, let's get into the news.
00:32:16
Speaker
And it's not a news segment about the trailer roundup.
00:32:21
Speaker
We saw a new trailer for The Apprentice starring Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump. um I don't know about this movie. I don't know what your thoughts about it are too, but it just looks weird. I don't think Sebastian Stan does a great Donald Trump. I think he could have had anybody else a point i think you could get anybody elses to play him. Did they only get him because he was Tommy Lee?
00:32:40
Speaker
Maybe just maybe so he's doing the same thing. He doesn't yeah look like Trump at all Doesn't look like him doesn't sound like him And I know Trump is very much against this movie So and he's he's starting to sue in the past, but I don't know. It's not something I'm interested in However, I am interested interested in this movie another trailer come out for Saturday night This movie just premiered somewhere um and the review embargo broke a couple weeks ago or last week and it's getting rave reviews ah directed by um Jason Reitman and the cast looks great. The story looks great. It's all about the first night of Saturday Night Live um and it just looks great. this this Every trailer I see of it looks fantastic. yeah it um Then we get an official trailer for Dexter the Original Sin. ah We got a new date of
00:33:31
Speaker
December 13th, we've got a new cast photo too of new Dexter and a Christian Slater who's playing Henry his father um But yeah, I'm excited for this now that we've watched extra comes out. I'm going to watch you guys show just in time. Yep. Yeah That comes up by the end of the year. So that's gonna be really good It's gonna be on Paramount Plus too. So you can stream it instead of having to watch it.
00:33:52
Speaker
And I believe the big thing with Dexter used to be on Sunday nights, now this is gonna be on Fridays streaming on Paramount I Plus though, so you can watch it whenever you like. Yeah, cause like the day stuff comes out on streaming it seems, Thursday or Friday. But all about the origin of how Dexter becomes not only a serial killer, but how he works at the police station. I believe he starts off as an intern and then builds up into being a blood analyst.
00:34:16
Speaker
um Also, i forgot about this I saw this years ago before I watched Dexter, but if you're familiar with The Office, during one point in the show, the paper gets bill gets bought but the not the thunder mifflin gets bought by a paper company called Saber.
00:34:32
Speaker
and they make printers, they make a whole bunch of stuff. Well, I forgot that the Saber printer showed up in a whole bunch of other shows, including Dexter. Also showed up in Parks and Rec. I like i had a couple pictures here. I don't think I put it in the notes. I did put it in the notes, yeah. But ah they yeah, I thought that was pretty funny. um And yesterday we got the trailer, which we're going to have to discuss a lot about this is then on the last stance.
00:34:54
Speaker
we saw a confirmation of who the villain is going to be who the main overall over overarching villain is gonna be a Lot of speculation on that which we're gonna talk about but it's going to be null um That is known the upper left corner of the comic book um Speculation that that is played by Norman Reedus. That was the rumor going around today. Mm-hmm. No, no nothing official um we're not even sure what capacity this null is gonna have in the story because the other Rumor that came out today is Everybody's talking about spider-man 4 and what that movie is going to be The rumor now is that this movie venom 3 is going to be setting up directly into spider-man 4 and the Showdown that everybody's been wanting to see is venom versus spider-man or venom with spider-man facing off together against null and
00:35:46
Speaker
no official word all rumors taken over the internet of course i' not even sure if this is a true or just fan speculation i'm all for it however i think i posted on my face my first personal facebook this week Sony you cunning little fuckers because we know what you we know the game that you're playing you give us what we want However, we know that's not exactly what we're going to get like I wanted know Of course, everybody wants the king of the symbiote. It's the god of the symbiote. So we got him in the movie. We got him in the trailer and
00:36:20
Speaker
Are you going to give the reigns to Marvel Studios to actually finish and tell this story correctly? Right. Like, this is what we'd want. This is what the fan speculation. I think that's why that rumor came out. If it is even true at all. I don't think we're going to see it. But um the creators of Knull did not even know that he was in this movie. The comic book creators, they found out the same day we did when we saw the trailer. They're like, oh, great. Now my paycheck is going to be great after this. And no idea.
00:36:46
Speaker
um That's Sony being Sony, but yeah, the big rumor was Norman Reedus and the other big rumor was Will this sit up to Spider-Man 4 was Tom Holland and Tom Hardy finally Coming together to face the big ultimate. This is a Thanos level villain by the way. No is one of the bigger villains of the Marvel Universe. um Not only, I mean, the Necrosword, which we saw in one of the Thor movies, ah Thor Love and Thunder, but he he's just, the he's been around for the longer, longer than the, cel select like, the same amount of time as the Celestials, Galactus. He's been in the universe, multiverse forever. um And of course, the big thing with Nul too,
00:37:26
Speaker
is there's a venom hive mind that he kind of controls and it was actually mentioned I think in an after credits scene with venom maybe in the last movie where venom talks to Eddie Barack he's talking about the hive mind it's where all the it's kind of the multiversal equivalent of all the venoms being connected to each to each other through this hive mind where they can that's why he kind of um if you remember correctly you watch he's looking at a screen he sees spider-man on screen he's kind of looking like he's a familiar character and the at the end of that movie and after credits scene ah like yes he's seen spider-man before he knows who that is um but of course Eddie Brock doesn't know who he is but the Venom symbiote does because he's seen him through multiversal fuckery with the hive mind of Venom I'm not sure if that'll play out in the movie however there are pictures in the movie trailer of that playing out so
00:38:15
Speaker
Yeah, it's ah it's a lot. We've got what a month left until this movie comes out. So wait we'll wait and see. You know my feelings of Sony and the whole Spider-Man universe over there. so um Last weekend, Beetle Shoes 2 earned $41.5 million dollars in the box office.
00:38:33
Speaker
Opening day and it the overall ah weekend it made 110 million dollars making it number one Deadpool Wolverine number two with 7.4 2 million and Ronald Reagan movie 5.2 million so ah did huge numbers for them um it was the Is the highest for September debut a second highest for September behind it chapter two and behind it chapter one is number I think number three um <unk> Also the third biggest box office this this year so far for opening weekend Deadpool and inside out two were number one and number two um but yeah, it was huge is huge for for the end of the year kind of box office blowout, so
00:39:19
Speaker
umm I'm excited to see it, however, a movie like this, I'm thinking, well, why did it take 30 years to make? And I know your feelings on on Tim Burton as well. I kind of have the same i've kind of had the same feeling feelings for him, too. Hit and miss. Lots of hits. Lots of misses, though. Yeah. I'm excited to see it, though. We'll see. um Made a lot of money over internationally, too. $35.4 million, dollars making the whole total $145.
00:39:45
Speaker
um We got new Apple stuff released this week, new information on new iPhones, new AirPods, AirPods 4 and We're going to bring in that active noise cancelling for the first time for $179, so pretty much what you pay for the Pro version you're getting for the regular AirPods. Up to 30 hours, battery life, of course these have the charging case where you put back put it back in there to charge them.
00:40:11
Speaker
Um, AirPods Max coming up with new colors, and they're getting rid of the Lightning port. Now it's going to be in AirPods. For four years, all they do is add colors. Well, they did do the USB-C, which I don't think any other, now I don't think anything else uses Lightning cable anymore. I think this is one of the last ones. Everything else is USB-C now. I'm not sure, but Lightning cable is all gone. USB-C is the standard, so.
00:40:38
Speaker
um Coming up with the Apple Watch Series 10, bigger display, OLED, so on and so forth. Getting rid of all the blue, I didn't notice that. The blue that I actually liked, and I got my phone's blue, ye my watch is blue. They don't have that, it's all in jet gold, silver and jet black. And if they have new iPhone 16. And the weird thing about the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro is it's a brand new button.
00:41:04
Speaker
And this is a complete control of the camera, um controls the zoom, controls the shutter of the camera, um and pretty much it's that's all that the button is good for. it's on the If you have an iPhone that's on the right side underneath the power button, um it's what say it's what they're calling the camera control button.
00:41:24
Speaker
um And you get all the the new upgrades, of new battery improved battery life, um faster of course, bigger better chips, faster. and see in the ah The Pro version is going to be the biggest iPhone ever, 6.9 inches, we're getting close getting close to 7.
00:41:45
Speaker
Getting close to having a brick in our in our pocket if we don't already if you have the pro max These cameras are really good 48 megapixel Yeah, I'm at 33 hour battery life for the for the max version um these are priced up pretty high though Low-end pro max if you want to get the very largest screen 1199 I think that the the most expensive for 1 terabyte is close to 2,000 and yeah Apple intelligence only coming to iPhone 15 Pro and newer and it's coming out in October so we're not going to be able to test that until we upgrade our phones next cycle so I think Apple Intelligence is probably the biggest thing from this other than that not much else we did get another product that was announced this week the PlayStation 5 Pro and the big thing about this is the $700 price tag
00:42:44
Speaker
For a PlayStation Pro version of a system that's already been out for what, when the PlayStation 5 came out? Five years ago? Six years ago? The first time we saw it came out? It was during COVID. Okay, it was probably four years ago. So 2020 maybe? So yeah, it was four four and a half years ago probably. So instead of making the price point good, making it kind of competition wise good um They decided to skyrocket it up to the highest price ever first first system. I believe for $6.99 It's outrageous number one. It doesn't come with a disc so if you want a disc for the same the same
00:43:22
Speaker
Side disking you buy for the ps5 slim you can buy it for this as well and attach it to it The disk drive itself is $129. So you're already up. No over $800 for disk drive on your PlayStation PlayStation 5 Pro otro the only game that I could see this being worthwhile for would be GTA 6 when it comes GTA 6 when it comes out next year if it doesn't get delayed i' Sure, they'll be fine on the regular ps5. So I'm not too worried about right and I think so too I think this is this is just a a cop from Sony to make money and I think it's Sickening but a 699 for a system when you can buy a switch for 300 So it's just pretty damn good. It's pretty cool that you can have a portably but And that and that just includes one controller. So if you want the whole entire initial enchilada for this to controllers everything else you're over a thousand already, so
00:44:16
Speaker
um Flappy Bird, a mobile game that was viral a decade ago. um The only thing I remember about this is the guy who created it did not did not want it to be out anymore, so he removed it from the App Store and it has not been around since. While the Flappy Bird Foundation Group has purchased the rights and the trademark of the original game,
00:44:37
Speaker
And it's bringing it back next year. And this game, like I mentioned, it went viral. Everybody was playing a Flappy Bird. It was one of those games you just had on your phone. Kind of had that 16-bit, 8-bit, kind of like Mario. Actually, to the fact that there were pipes that looked almost identical to Mario. We're in this game and you were playing this bird that was trying to fly through. And you had to see how many times you can click it to get it through the pipes.
00:44:59
Speaker
It was huge. It was it went viral went all over the social media. That game was pretty addicting knocking very addicting Yeah, see how far you can get. I think the most sad was like 4950 I couldn't get that far but you have to be entranced in that to get pretty high I know some people that get high and that's high scores in that game, but um Yeah coming out in 2025 the redo of that game. So we'll have to wait and see on that Warner Brothers discovery says max subscribers rose more than six million in quarter three Probably because of Game of Thrones house of drag I would guess but yeah seasons two of Lord of the Rings rings of power in the first 11 days had 40 million viewers globally um There I believe this article came out
00:45:43
Speaker
because there was rumors that this season was not getting great readings and they're just showing up people are still watching and I think just people are complaining about the story um it's it's a slow it's a slow go there's not a lot of action right now there could be I know there's there's there's war being built up the goblins are coming into or the orcs are coming into to wreck havoc soon in the next couple of episodes but um but yeah 40 million viewers in 11 days pretty damn good i'm waiting for the uh whole thing to be over before you watch any of it yeah um really started so
00:46:20
Speaker
Shailene Woodley is set to star as Janice Joplin in a biopic. I love biopics, so I'm kind of excited about that. So yeah, Shailene Woodley, mostly known for that American Teenagers show. um She's done a few movies as an adult. um She was also married Jane in Amazing Spider-Man and got cut out of the movie completely yeah with Andrew Garfield. And David Aaron Rodgers, when he was going through the whole eating clay phase.
00:46:48
Speaker
ye Yeah, that was that was her that was her that was her big fame after after that show ended. um The show is real. It's happening. The Office remake is set in a newspaper factory.
00:47:00
Speaker
um Cast three new people to play ah play in the office play in the office sandbox along with Donald Gleason and the other the other actors that they hired on to play in that in the in the cast um Yeah, the only one that looks familiar is the middle one Chelsea Frey. I think I've seen her as something I just don't know what it is, but But yeah, I cannot wait for the office. I love the office We saw the very first glimpse of going into production this week of a ship of a happy Gilmore um Adam Sandler back in they also announced that Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald who had already mentioned he's coming back to Scooter McGavin is going to be joining the cast and Bad Bunny International star Bad Bunny
00:47:42
Speaker
Oh, geez. WWE superstar, Beth Buddy, joining the cast. Of course, Travis Kelsey also said to be in the cast as well. So I'm excited. I love Happy Gilmore. Another thing again with this, like, do we need it 30 years? Please don't stop. Do we need it 30 years later? Do we really need it 30 years later? I think it will, but it's nostalgia. I'm all for it.
00:48:05
Speaker
So what do we see um? Brand-new poster for smile the only reason I'm bringing this up is because the kid who stars in it is Jack Nicholson son Ray Nicholson and In the poster he looks exactly like his dad Jack Nicholson in The Shining um I don't know I never saw the first one. How did you like it? I heard all kind of mixed I reviewed it. It's okay It was pretty good, but it was uh they kind of stuck with the same thing where I think the first one start Was it Kevin Bacon's daughter?
00:48:34
Speaker
or somebody like that was the star. um So they're like doing the same thing here with second generation actors. The only thing I remember is they were like, there are these people showing up in the backgrounds of of like the Today Show, a sporting event, smiling in the background. That's the only viral the viral campaign that happened in this movie. Yeah, I remember that. but yeah um Kathy Bates says she's going to retire after she does Matlock, the reboot of Matlock. She's going to be starring in that show. um That's going to be the last thing she does before she retires. Speaking of Kathy Bates earlier in The Waterboy,
00:49:06
Speaker
um Yeah, she's a great actress. She lost a lot of weight. She looks a lot different now than she used to. So yeah, I'm not sure about Matlock. Show, of course, starred Andy Griffith back in the day, right? So yeah, I don't know. um Announced this week, the Super Bowl halftime show for 2025 is going to be Kendrick Lamar. A lot of people wanted Lil Wayne to be in the Super Bowl, and I have seen Lil Wayne perform.
00:49:33
Speaker
I have a feeling that's why they predict they wanted Kevin to perform because he is god-awful, especially as a live performer. You can say what you want about his CDs and his and his production, which I know is kind of sketchy too, but the live performances, you do not understand a fucking word he says. I think he's i think he's just on the street. This is too much. but um Also, I want to bring this up speaking of the Super Bowl. The whole reason that we have halftime performances is because of In Living Color. i I saw this article, looked it up, and sure enough, 1992, in order to copy be competition for the Super Bowl that was happening on Sunday night, Fox aired an In a Living Color special that night. And um and it had over 20 million viewers.
00:50:21
Speaker
um over on the other channel compared to what the Super Bowl was getting on the same night. um And to kind of retaliate for that, the the whoever was running the Super Bowl and the NFL um decided to that they were going to do these halftime shows and have these performances. And at the time, 1993, they got the biggest star that they could to perform.
00:50:39
Speaker
And one of the best performances ever was Michael Jackson. It was the very first one in 1993. And of course, you see you hear it all the time where there's there's ah there are other options to watch other stuff during the Super Bowl for the halftime. Of course, they have the they have the Puppy Bowl, they have a whole bunch of other stuff. Remember when we were kids, they had halftime heat where they had mankind and the Rock performing in an empty arena. yeah So they they always had this before, but this is where it first started. I completely i didn't and didn't and didn't know this, I guess. um But yeah, it's where it started in 1992 within Living Color. And I love that show. so um The Bear, they already had Emmys last they have emmys is this weekend, but they had the pre-stuff last weekend. And The Bear has already won seven, before the show even airs. ah Best sound and editing, mixing, best picture editing, cinematography.
00:51:25
Speaker
Best casting in a comedy, best actor in a comedy, John Bernthal for guest actor, Jimmy Curtis for guest actress. Only Murders in the Building has already won four. Outstanding production, music, short-form comedy, original music and lyrics. And Shogun, a show I have not watched. Have you watched some of Shogun, a couple episodes? Yeah, I did. It's good. It's good? Okay. Did win 14 Emmys.
00:51:49
Speaker
All-time record record for a c single season and it has not even aired. This is just pre Emmy stuff ah best sound mixing Editing best picture editing cinema. I was very confused when I was reading people were winning Emmys No, but they don't they're not until the 15th. So how are they winning Emmys? Oh Yeah, i just like the pre just of the the stuff that's not shown on TV was already done last weekend. We're doing a week ahead of time. We're going to talk about the Emmys this weekend, and I think it airs Sunday. We'll talk Monday to Monday. I can't remember, but we'll talk all about it next week on the podcast. Okay, we'll talk about it next week. Tyrese Gibson. I don't know much about him other than he's an R and&B singer who was in the Fast and Furious movies.
00:52:28
Speaker
was arrested for failing to pay enough child support. um he The judge handed him an opportunity to avoid jail time and he could pay $73,000 within 48 hours. Didn't look into the story, I just thought that was funny and I wanted to bring it up. And i I've seen Terry Skips and he's been on podcasts and TV shows and stuff crying a lot.
00:52:49
Speaker
I don't know what's up with him. I have no idea. Baby boy. That's the only other movie I know. He was in the announcement video with Dre with Dre's old Beats apple. Remember that? And he was like, $4 billion. And then they're like, shut up. That's right. That's right. That's right. They're doing a new Carmen Sandiego.
00:53:09
Speaker
Return for PC consoles and the Netflix single-player puzzle adventure game um Yeah, front Netflix has games now, um but it's gonna be based off the original game um do you I know we played Oregon Trail back in the day. do You remember Carmel San Diego? My cousin used to have it My cousin said it a lot. I never had it. I had the... I loved Carmen... Where in time is Carmen Sandino? That was my favorite. But yeah, I loved all that. I used to watch the show, of course, on PBS. I remember the TV show. I used to watch the TV show. I didn't have a computer that could run the game, though, back then. I don't believe it. And then I aged out.
00:53:46
Speaker
um Inside Out 2, the highest grossing animated film of all time, coming out on Disney Plus next a couple weeks since September 25th. So we're talking about doing a watch of that. Disney Plus will be perfect time on September 20th. Probably around Christmas time we'll plan on doing an Inside Out 1 and Inside Out 2 watch. So look forward to that. um Speaking of popcorn buckets, we talked about it all year long. Started with the Dune bucket, went with the Deadpool and Wolverine bucket. Now we have the Terrifier 3, Art the Cloud bucket.
00:54:14
Speaker
I think I need this for my Christmas decorations. Yes, you fucking do. You definitely do this. This is a table topper for sure. um Coming this ah comings out on pre-order I believe on the all online on the 18th of this month. um And it's Art the Clown in a popcorn bucket with blood and everything else on it. i believe I also believe it may talk. I'm not sure. I believe there's a box where it can talk. so Very interesting. um Announced today, Netflix is in talks to require the rights to stream live versions of Hot Ones. I know that's a YouTube ah sensation. And yeah, looking looking forward to, I mean, I've seen a few of them on YouTube, but it'd be great to see it on Netflix. Easy to click click through on TV. but You can get them on, they're on Hulu now. They are on Hulu, that's cool. Judd Apatow and Steven Spielberg joining forces
00:55:09
Speaker
to do a Coke versus Pepsi film called Cola Wars. Coming up from Sony Pictures. Um... it ah Set in the 1980s, it's going to include everything from Michael Jackson's new Coke mishap when he burned himself with a Pepsi, um the new and the the new Coke thing that happened in the 80s. Talk about their ah Pepsi always being a second place to, and vying for Coke's number one throughout the whole entire however long 80 year time that they've been fighting each other.
00:55:43
Speaker
Um, Chet Hanks. This fucking guy. Tom Hanks' son. Not the good one. The rapper one. The white rapper. White boy Summer. Um, has he has gone, he went to the MTV VMAs, read corporate, and talks about how his next album is going to be a country album.
00:56:07
Speaker
andistic Robbers and Mekkis had a long list of potentials for the Doc Brown character in Back to the Future. We're skipping that story completely because Chet Hanks...
00:56:18
Speaker
What he's he's the equivalent of and even though he's Tom Hanks son. He's a equivalent of a Kardashian at this point. Yep um Robert Zemeckis has a long had a lot of lists of potentials to play Doc Brown and Back to the Future in the 80s And I have it right here the whole entire list and there's some really cool names on here that actually that actually went out and played to play Doc Brown um And a lot of them did screencast did go screen test um including Jean Hackman Um, John Cleese, uh, Joe Piscopo was at the time, uh, of course Saturday Night Live.
00:56:53
Speaker
I'm Jeff Goldblum. An interesting name crossed off in the list, not available. John Lithco. I think all the ones that are crossed out were all the ones that were not available. Steve Martin, Albert Brooks, Chevy Chase. um Of course, James Wood and Christopher Lloyd both tested. Robert Klein tested. um Danny DeVito is another one that's crossed out. John Candy,
00:57:22
Speaker
Henry Winkler, Eddie Murphy, Bill Cosby, um all of those names were crossed off, and Randy Quaid tested. Michael Keaton also crossed off. So, and um I mean, of course, the role is iconic from Christopher Lloyd. However, it's kind of interesting to see who could have played that character, who could have played Doc Brown, and the people that tested for that role, them that have been changed they would have changed the movie significantly.
00:57:46
Speaker
The Harry Potter TV series has an open casting call this week for three new leads. um there're therere They're doing it more um not so whitewashed as the Harry Potter movies were. They're going more diverse. um I don't think they're particularly looking for a black or a Mexican or a Spanish or whatever actress or actor.
00:58:10
Speaker
But they're opening up the casting hall rather than just whitewashing every role that's ever been. They were of course in the movies. out I don't think there were that many African-American, African, and not American African, actress in those movies. There was a couple, but they're going to opening up, opening up the casting auditions a lot more. Going to this new iteration is going to be on HBO Max. but Casting just started for that. We'll see that in a couple years um and Orlando Bloom smoked us spoke about Returning as Legolas for Andy circuses Lord of the Rings movies ah the Gollum movie um And he said he would if it all works out So yeah, we'll have to wait and see on that um big news this week in music was Dave Grohl announced he fathered a baby daughter outside of marriage and the big thing about that is Dave Grohl is known to be like his
00:59:00
Speaker
Big lovable rock star who thought everybody thought he could no do wrong until this Instagram post post came out from him saying that he cheated on his wife had a had a daughter out of wedlock and It completely turned everybody against him and well, I mean it was his 18 year old daughter's friend that is having the baby. So there's that I don't, I didn't hear that. I don't know. yeah it's here It's a friend of his daughter. I had no idea. yeah I thought it was somebody that was on. I had no idea. I haven't read all that, but, um, but yeah, Dave always let you can't, you can't judge book by cover by its cover. You know, we always say that about celebrities, especially something like this. You don't know what's going on behind closed doors. Um, Denny says dune three, uh, not likely a trilogy and will be his last dune movie.
00:59:51
Speaker
Um, other directors could take over. So he, so he's not closing the door on the franchise completely. Um, it will be his last though. Um, and it's not going to be just like an end of a trilogy. Um, it's not what he's, that's what, not what he's planning in the movie to be. Um, I know Doom Messiah is the next book in the series. So, um, you know, with the way you see how that plays out. Um, rest in peace to Peter Renaday. You don't know who that is, but he's the lead. and He was the voice of actor of a character in.
01:00:20
Speaker
In a TV show that we used to watch growing up, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, he played Splinter in the cartoon in the animated series. um He was 89 years old when he died this week, so rest in peace to him. um Rest in peace to Chad McQueen, he was in Karate Kid, I don't know who he is, I know he's the son of Steve McQueen, I know you know Karate Kid more than I do. He died this week, 63 years old.
01:00:41
Speaker
um Before we get into all the Marvel and Star Wars and DC news of the week, um there's another death we're going to talk about at the end of the show.
01:00:53
Speaker
Don't think we skipped it. There's a big death this week, we'll talk about it at the end. but um Disney and Lucasfilm are being sued for using Peter Cushing's lightness in Rogue One. Of course, if you remember Rogue One, he was used in used kind of deep fake on him, or not deep fake, but CGI to to do a new actor with ah Peter Cushing's face over him, playing him.
01:01:15
Speaker
playing Grimoth, but um yeah set this ah production company that was supposed to do it um was run by one of Cushing's oldest friends, claimed they had a deal with him, they gave the company a veto over the re-creation of an image with special effects intended for TV, film,
01:01:32
Speaker
That was never made. that I guess they they broke this pact. Disney tried to get the bid thrown out. and But it was rejected by the judge. And the whole shenanigans went on. They did it anyway. So now they're suing Disney. the cushy Cushing a state. Whoever did the imaging. so Yeah. and I don't think it looked that good anyway. But that's just me. It was also the very beginning of Defake's. Leia looked terrible in that too.
01:01:59
Speaker
Yeah, you're right. Ewan McGregor says he wants to really wants to play Obi-Wan again. He did great in the Obi-Wan series. I don't think he was the problem with that show. um I think everything in that show had more to do with story rather than acting. Between him and Hayden and the lightsaber battles and everything else that happened in that show and the story wise too was kind of crap. but We also saw, leon we also we also saw Qui-Gon come back too. So yeah overall good series. um I would like to see him come back as well. I don't know if they continue that series the same way or not, but we'd like to see that.
01:02:33
Speaker
um Michael B. Jordan set to direct and star in a Thomas Crown Affair remake in Amazon Studios. This is after he'd already done directed Creed 3. This is their follow-up to his follow-up to the studios for that. um So yeah, I know we like ah Michael B. Jordan. He's one of the actors we both like, so yeah, we'll see about that. um Amazon has passed a production of Good Omens Season 3, a show I have not want to watch. I have watched. I do want to watch.
01:03:00
Speaker
um All because of Neil Gaiman, who created the comic book due to sexual assault allegations that are currently going on, and I believe the story is an update where he's actually said that he's going to completely leave the show in any production capacity, um so production can continue on the show. I don't know more about, I don't know the allegations, I don't know anything else, what had happened, or I hadn't heard anything else, but no I know, I did see that some sexual allegations were happening.
01:03:27
Speaker
around Neil Gaiman, but of course comic book creator. Rumor going around this week is more Morbius star Jared Leto was offered the role of Skeletor in the Masters of the Universe movie. Of course, we always talk about Masters of the Universe as one of those shows that went a little bit before us, a little bit under our radar. It came out mid-80s. We were more into the Ninja Turtles Ghostbusters, real Ghostbusters cartoon, more than Hemian. but yeah Jared Leto offered the role of Skeletor okay
01:03:58
Speaker
um Agatha All Along, we're going to talk about that next week, at least I will. It comes out next week. We've got brand new posters for Agatha All Along. I like the poster on the left with ah with what's her name, Aubrey Plaza. But the show comes out next week, two episodes on the 18th. This is coming out at 9pm.
01:04:19
Speaker
I'm going to be in a prime time show and every episode is going to be one episode up until Halloween. They're going to have another double episode on Halloween night. So show I'm actually looking forward to a lot of practical effects. Of course, I do. I did like Agatha. I thought she was great in WandaVision. Catherine Hahn. So yeah, we'll have to wait and see where the show goes. It's the only other MCU thing we're getting this year. So excited.
01:04:45
Speaker
ah Speaking of Marvel, marvel's Marvel's Vision show has added Star Trek Picard's Todd Stashwick as an assassin who was on the trail of Vision. Don't know much more about that. The only other thing we know is that um what's his name is returning as Ultron. Other than that, we don't know anything else about the show. We don't know when it's going in production or how long it's going to be until it comes out. but With a win see on that spider-man noir cast boardwalk empires jack huts husk Houston um as mysterious bodyguard role in the TV series starring Nicholas cage on so Amazon um I know you watch boardwalk empires that the guy with the face the face mask. Yeah, he was here's also the original cast He was cast before before I do the crow and then more took the role and then we got we got I've been that was very interesting
01:05:33
Speaker
But yeah, huge I was a big fan of that because I was actually watching Boardwalk. He's like my favorite character on Boardwalk by far. He's like Fezzes and and Euphoria. He's fucking awesome. um And I was watching it. It was like during my watch of that show when they announced him as being cast. And I was like, fuck yeah. I was so on board for that. He's so good. He's great at Boardwalk.
01:05:56
Speaker
Yeah, it's one of the shows I definitely have to get into, Boardwalk. It's one I've always wanted to get into. um i know I know a lot of people love it. I know you've recommended it to me a bunch of times. yeah um Sony reportedly scrapped the yeah most of Beyond the Spider-Verse, which has been debunked a couple of times by Chris Miller. um He says all is well. but um We still don't know where this movie was. We got a movie last October. But Beyond the Spider-Verse is supposed to be the continuing the story and the last story ended up in a big cliffhanger. What's happening in the Spider-Verse. But likely the movie is getting pushed back further and further. We're not sure when we're going to see the third one. but
01:06:33
Speaker
um and The da big news in Marvel this week was that Spider-Man 4 has a new director, Destin Daniel Craig. um He's going to be coming in leaving the Shang-Chi franchise and coming in directing the 4th Spider-Man movie.
01:06:52
Speaker
um Now all the talk that we talked about with Venom, I could see them i could see him coming in and doing that. A lot of people want to see Shang-Chi play a role in this movie. I don't think that'll happen if Venom comes in. yeah don't know i don't know what I don't know what Marvel's plan is, basically. I don't think anybody does. yeah At this point, it's all speculation. Daniel Kreten, Destin Kreten,
01:07:17
Speaker
Completely great director, Shang-Chin, amazing movie, visually stunning action scenes. The actions the action in Spider-Man is gonna be fucking top notch. That's why I was excited to over anything. It'll be top notch action anyways. And Tom Holland just does a great job as Spider-Man, not only as the character of Peter Parker,
01:07:35
Speaker
But just the action, he does a lot of his own stunts. He does a lot of the flips and everything that you see in the movie is is actually him. So I mean, I'm excited. um Also, chris Chris McKenna and Eric Summers are returning to write the script for Spider-Man 4. They did Spider-Man Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home. So that's kind of cool.
01:07:52
Speaker
um And Joe locks mystery MCU character, which has always been speculated to be Billy Maximoff the older kind of weird It's a hard story to get into I'm not getting into it right now, but um Billy rumored that that character was announced in a trailer for the show I haven't seen it. I haven't seen it myself, but I I guess some subtitles give up that his character's name is Billy. I know that's one of the big secrets they're trying to keep from this show. um they have They've been having a hard time doing that because Billy in the comic books is Wiccan, part of the new Avengers or the young Avengers. and he's a He's a gay character in the comic books and I believe Joe Locke is openly gay as well. He's talking about this character being openly gay and he's playing.
01:08:39
Speaker
put two and two it together you kind of can guess he's building and they're they're slowly building the young inventors anyway so it makes sense that he makes perfect perfect sense put him in this uh yeah at this point every show that was built up up until the bob eiger took over era um Has been made to build up the Young Adventures, and that's basically what this is as well This is one of the last things that was made before Bob Biker took over the the reins and told Feige to ring it in a little bit, but um What's happened in the rehearsal Ollie's Blade movie We have no idea We thought maybe this summer at comic-con we would have found out what's happened in rehearsal this movie We have no idea we know this movie was announced two or three four years ago
01:09:21
Speaker
no idea what's going on. theres We saw Wesley Snipes play Blade again, which we never thought we'd see again. Did an amazing job. Had an internet sensation viral moment where Ryan Reynolds tells everybody, oh, we need to have him have his own Logan version version of his own swan song as well. So, fan speculation is, what the fuck's happening with Mahershala's Blade? And of course, we know all the history of that movie. Directors leaving, actresses leaving, actors leaving. Mahershala's staying on for some reason. I mean, it's supposed to be a passion for him just to get it done, but um do you think we'll see a multiverseion multiverse version of this with Wesley kind of handing off the reins to Mahershala? I can't see that.
01:10:08
Speaker
i Would love to see him working together. I don't know if we I don't know if we'll see something like that in that movie, but I would love Yeah, i nor yeah no idea this in this movie The rumor is that one of these movies is going to be one of these things is gonna be canceled either blade Or armor wars which is another thing that was announced in 2018. I believe that we haven't heard anything about um and we And we knew it was gonna be the story of pretty much the Iron Man tech going up to like aim and everybody else and roadie road
01:10:38
Speaker
Brody's gonna go after after all these people companies and try to keep the Iron Man tacking tack Keep the the Tony Stark like a sea intact, but we don't know anything else about that We haven't heard anything about else about that. It's supposed to be a TV show then some movie so we don't know but I'm getting into the DC news of the week penguin comes out next week to the end of the week and we have some brand new shots um of a fake go Gotham Gazette with penguin penguin on the front cover. um I know you're excited about that. I am to the reviews are Very good the views except for IGN give it a shitty review today But we're right here the variety review said it was a mesmerizing crime trauma that moves beyond Batman and I hear there's a lot of
01:11:22
Speaker
Batman characters and villains that are debuting in this so that's exciting stuff that probably we wouldn't have seen in the movies um Maybe maybe like calendar man. That would be great to see somebody like calendar man um Also, I don't think I had it in the notes But the big thing this week is speculation that it's all gonna be set in the wintertime I believe Matt Reeves may have even confirmed he said he said the penguin picks up the moment the Batman ends and he confirmed that um and this show will end around um the new year so the Batman part two is okay where this ends so it sounds like it's gonna be another winter one and if he gets Craig Frazier back for as a cinematographer that's gonna look fucking amazing
01:12:06
Speaker
So first one, I saw this earlier. First one, all red imagery was all red. Yep. Second one are in winter imagery, all blue. but Titles everything fucking mr. Freeze dude, mr. Freeze and Everybody wants to see it. I want to see mr. Freeze. However, how are you gonna do that in a in a grounded? Reality based Batman movie. I don't know. I know he wants to stay away from the supernatural. Yeah, I think he could too I think you just have to use modern tech versus whatever they
01:12:39
Speaker
The comics. But comic um but wouldn't have to be it wouldn't be too outlandish. And he also did say he wants to have the villain, um or he wants there to be a lot of heart in the story. And Mr. Freeze has a lot of heart in the story. yeah that you You talk about heart. The very first episode of Batman the Animated Series is probably one of the best written TV shows or anything for comic books. It's all about Mr. Freeze and his wife being frozen. And the whole entire story is amazing.
01:13:08
Speaker
um has not well I won't I won't say has been played out because it didn't be played out and it did get played out in Batman and Robin but we don't talk about that movie because it's Arnold Schwarzenegger doing a shitty job and there is so much potential of the mr. phrase story that could happen on the ice man cometh Stay cool. Chill. It's gonna be a cold, tired, and gothled tonight. Yeah, no, we don't want that. We want we want Matt Reeves. If he's gonna do this, the blue imagery, and and Mr. Freeze coming in, we wanna see a great actor coming in, playing playing Victor Freeze. And yeah, it's all about love, all about his wife and why he's doing everything. It'll be exciting.
01:13:52
Speaker
um Peacemaker Season 2 arrives in the second half of 2025. This was announced this week by James Gunn. um yeah It's going to be right after Superman. Of course Superman comes out July 11th, so during the second half, probably I would say probably around this time, maybe October or November.
01:14:09
Speaker
um Ellie Milcock, is that her name right? Millie Alcock, whatever. really yeah She went to, I believe, the US Open, or one of those, or somewhere, some some game, I don't know, with all blonde hair. She's already getting ready for Supergirl. I'm excited for that movie. I cannot wait. I don't know why. Don't look at the map look at the picture. um James Brolin rejected the role of Hal Jordan in the DCU.
01:14:39
Speaker
um Yeah, so we don't know who's going to play that. um I know you were kind of against that last week when we were talking about it. I like, I'd like Tim of the old fans an interesting choice if they're going older. I like him or what's his name from Wonder Woman, ah Chris Pine. Chris Pine. But le like that's also very familiar for him. So um I think older fan would be a very interesting choice.
01:15:04
Speaker
Yes, from what I hear, it's going to be like a police drama kind of, but with lanterns. That's what I'm hearing. yeah um the gristle the gristle right With That's what I think about Matthew McConaughey. McConaughey is attached to it. So it's going to be like a grizzled detective trying to teach an underling who would be John Stewart's.
01:15:25
Speaker
yeah lanterns so yes And finally in news, i kind of prematurely announced it, but rest in peace to James Earl Jones. um Of course for us Star Wars, Darth Vader, iconic, the voice, but so many other things.
01:15:42
Speaker
Lion King Mufasa, then the other big thing. Field of Dreams. I just watched that movie last year. He was great. He had a great dialogue in that movie. He was in Sandlot. He was in Coming to America, Playing the King. He did amazing in that movie. 93 years old. We knew he was in decline. We knew he signed off all of his rights to do the AI for his voice for Star Wars.
01:16:08
Speaker
Perpetually after he passed so he knew he was getting close And it's really too bad that he did pass our childhood died off this week. Yeah, what James not only? Obviously not only Star Wars, but you got Sandlot you got sound like you said field of dreams for me Lion King um So yeah, they're sad yeah Yeah, very sad. George Lucas released a statement. James was an incredible actor, a most unique voice both in art and spirit. For nearly half a century he was Darth Vader, but the secret to it all is he was beautiful. He was a beautiful human being.

James Earl Jones's Legacy

01:16:45
Speaker
He gave death, sincerity, and meaning to all of his roles, amongst the most important being a devoted husband to the late Cece, his wife, and dad to Flynn. James will be missed by so many of us, friends and fans alike.
01:16:58
Speaker
I'm very, very appointed for George to say that. and yeah Rest in peace to James Earl Jones. Definitely a sci-fi legend. Actor legend. Acting legend.
01:17:12
Speaker

Oh, oh speaking of that, yeah we're going to start our crow watch, because the crow had the same problem. yeah um i'm yeah I'm not sure what I'm going to watch this weekend. maybe you know what let's watch Let's talk about the original crow movie next week, and we're going to slowly build to the new crow movie.
