Seasonal Plans and Entertainment

00:01:25
Speaker
Hey, what's going on? What's going on, buddy? How you doing? Doing good, doing good. Good to hear. We are Columbus Day weekend, so you're at the end of your season, finally. Thanks, fucking God. Thanks, God. What are you looking forward to doing this winter? Do you have any plans this winter? You know, be working, you're going to be hanging out at home.
00:01:44
Speaker
I've been watching a lot of movies and I have a backlog of comics. I've been buying alls all fucking summer. It's like once I finally figured out we had a comic shop near us, I spent way too much money. I said comic shop near us. Plus, Amazon keeps throwing fucking deals at me. So I have a ton of stuff to jump on. um Amazon has had a lot of good deals. Marvel, too. Yes. I noticed that. And my whole thing, too, is like I started reading again um pretty much during COVID, but like I wasn't going to a shop. So I'm pretty much.
00:02:13
Speaker
Buying love stuff. I've already read but I want to Actually own it and you know pay for it so that the right artists or what not get to get their money and stuff like that Paper the trade paper backs usually trade That's what I've been getting lately to this is I'm gonna talk about um this is the first one issue comic I've read I'm gonna be talking about later Guess what? coming up Series. Oh you did. I bought it digitally though. Yeah, we'll talk about it. Okay, cool. Cool um Yeah, cuz I don't like doing the week to week or the month to month we neither hate it i like i like a full story and that's what screw me up when i was younger i'd always want to get a full story but i can only afford the four dollars comics in the rack um now that i'm older and actually have you know i wouldn't say disposable income but i have money eyes yeah that i can spend on some comics i've always wanted to read or maybe that one i've read and i'd like to read again because i'd also rather read the paper version of said comics. Digital is cool, but I do like to have the comic in hand. Let's get in the show. Yeah, we're talking about a lot of stuff.

TV Show Discussions

00:03:16
Speaker
We're in the middle of the Halloween season, so we get some Halloween movies.
00:03:20
Speaker
We've got our Road to the Crow, which we're going to be watching next week, with a awful movie. I've already raised my rating of the new one after watching the last two. I kind of figured that was going to be my question when we get into it. But first we're going to talk about TV shows that aired this week. Only Murs in the Building is getting really good. We're on episode seven. There's 10 episodes this season, so we've got three more weeks of that.
00:03:47
Speaker
um Agatha all along airs on Wednesday nights. I'm really liking this show episode 5 We finally see don't hear his name, but we see teen in his full form Yeah, I'm in and Agatha does mention that She that he and his mother was a little wacky too, which is Wanda, of course um but I show that I'm excited to get your your take on cuz I know the new season the last season of Superman and Lois debuted this week I know you watched the first episode um And I know from what I've seen online what you what you said that is they're kind of adapting the death of Superman with doomsday Yes, what is your take on everything the way season 3 ends?

'Superman and Lois' Plot and Speculation

00:04:30
Speaker
Lex creates doomsday okay, and there's like four minutes left in the fucking episode and Doomsday and Superman start fighting so it ended up being taken out into space Superman punchy-punchy
00:04:43
Speaker
they end up fighting, they end up on the moon basically is where they're at. And the end of season three is them just going at each other, like flying at each other, then it ends and whatever. So you know this whole season is gonna revolve around the death of Superman in that arc. So the entire first episode plays out and by the end of it, obviously Superman, they're doing the death of Superman, it's not really a spoiler, Superman's dead. It's incredibly heartbreaking. um You get Lois and the kids' reaction to it as they find his body. and Which is a different take from the different tape from the comic book. It's in the comic book he doesn't have kids. It's just him and Lois. I don't just think they're married at that point in the comic book. They're not. They're engaged. They're supposed to be married, I believe. So the kids find him and they like roll over his body and he has no heart. Doomsday took his heart out of his body.
00:05:40
Speaker
So then, and this is where I told you they're doing something we've never seen before in live action. So Lex gets the news that Superman's dead. And they're about to go meet up with um Doomsday to get his heart because that's what Lex said. He said, next time I see you, bring me his heart or whatever at the end of season three. So Lex and his person, his whatever cohort are talking,
00:06:07
Speaker
And they said the thing I hit the Leo me. They said the thing they go, I can't remember. It was Lex or the, I think it was Lex that says it, but he goes, Superman's dead. And then she goes, should we tell Brainiac? And he goes, not yet. He's like, we're going to hold that information off. I was like, Oh my God. Also, no idea how they're going to bring back Superman.
00:06:34
Speaker
zero idea because of something i'm i'm keeping a spoiler free as possible and we let you know he died because it obviously was an old professional material going that show it was um so yeah but um I have no idea how they're going to bring him back, to be honest. And they go to the Fortune of Solitude to see what they can do. And there's a hologram image of Tyler Oakland's Superman talking to his kids from the afterlife ah um with with old like classic like Kryptonian garban. Not like just Superman soup, but just like like if he was a general for the Kryptonian army. um And they talk to his real mother also.
00:07:10
Speaker
um Cara L is that her what's I can't remember Superman's mom's name not Martha obviously but the real one but um So yeah, the two episodes were really good Really emotional. Everyone's gonna be comparing this obviously to what we got with Snyder um I don't want to do that because they're two completely different mediums totally um We've had
00:07:34
Speaker
three plus seasons now at this point of this Superman, which is why I always thought that was a mistake in the Snyderverse to kill him in the second movie, but that's whatever. um But this is, it was incredibly emotional. um In this universe, in the middle of season three, Lana found out who Superman is and her daughter. Interesting. Who is dating one of Superman's kids.
00:07:58
Speaker
um So like when Superman's body falls and Lois turns him over and she's there with the kids and everyone's like, oh my God, it's it's Lois and her friend Superman and Lana's there. And she's like, everyone give them space like Lois and her friend Superman, like, you know, they're like best friends, blah, blah, blah. I have a feeling that the town is going to find out who he is or his real identity um at some point.
00:08:22
Speaker
um but i have no idea where they're going with this this season and i do hope we get brainiac at the end of it because it's the last season so it's not no point in teasing them like that if you're not going to have them in the show um we've had we had brainiac one time in live action yeah that was small which was lowson clark oh yeah smallville they didn't uh i don't think yeah locy clark didn't Okay. No, no, but small did the guy who was in public the vampires to flare. Yes. Right. Yeah. Yeah. That's right. That's right. Um, but yeah, I mean, we've all wanted this down really well in live action and CWA has a bigger budget now than it did in smallville. So we'll see. Hopefully, hopefully we get there. We want to see it in a movie universe. We wanted to see it with cattle, but it never got there. We want that's where they're going yeah wanted to see it for a very long time. So I'm glad to hear that.
00:09:15
Speaker
um penguin episode three comes out on sundays now um this show is very very good um and you're right the stepsps mode oh my god

'The Penguin' and Batman's Universe

00:09:27
Speaker
You're right. The beginning of the episode is amazing because it's a flashback to the Batman. It's Vic's origin story and it's the flood that happens in Gotham City and shows what happens to his family, what happens to him, and the PTSD that it creates him. He already has this problem with stuttering throughout the series so far, um but just having that knowledge of what happened to him in the past is incredible.
00:09:50
Speaker
um There's a new drug in town, Bliss, um created an Arkham Asylum or State Hospital, whatever they're calling it. Already hinted to poison and ivy airrow like or scarecrow. It does sound a lot like scarecrow. yeah Being a mushroom, it sounds like it could be poison ivy as well. so yeah sure too yeahp um But next week, the the preview for next week is Sophia's origin story.
00:10:17
Speaker
Yes, all about her in the asylum, so I cannot wait for that. Who was it? Sean O'Connell tweeted out um after this episode. He said, we just got the Vic episode. He's like, next we get the Sofia episode and you guys aren't ready for that. This is apparently where the show actually gets good.
00:10:34
Speaker
which is what excites me the most is people say that episode four on is where the show takes off, which is fucking insane because episode one on is where I would say it took off. Episode three was incredible. And it puts the the Batman movie into a whole new perspective. OK, OK, cool. um How many episodes we talking? Is there six or eight? Eight. OK, cool. Yeah, we've got five left. That's awesome. um Yeah, looking forward to that comes out Sundays. um Movies. We're going to start off with this one because I just want to get it out of the way, like a band-aid, just rip it off.

Critique of 'The Crow' Series

00:11:08
Speaker
The Crow, Wicked Prayer. This came out in the year 2000, 2005. So it came out almost 20 years ago. Yep. Edward Furlong, who had only been in in two movies at this time, American History X, which I know you're a fan of. Grad movie. And Terminator 2. And there's a lot of little B movies, C movies, E movies mixed in there too in between. But
00:11:33
Speaker
For some reason, they cast him as the Crow in this movie. I don't even remember what his name was. um Tara Reid, straight out of american American Pie, the whole franchise, basically the only movie besides Van Wilder, I think she was in.
00:11:49
Speaker
um yeah David Boreanz, who was in, I think he was in one of the Scream movies, right? Or he was in something, he was in... He's he's one of those guys where you've seen him. You've seen him, I don't know if it was, he might have been like urban legend. He was in one of those, I don't know, I think it was a movie that was around the Scream movies. Yeah, it could have been. all those team movies But he was Angel, he was in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Emmanuel Shuriki, who was in Entourage, and of course, Lana. And some men in Lois.
00:12:17
Speaker
yep yep um Dennis Hopper, who for some reason decides to pick every 10 years shitty movies. I don't think he's alive anymore. But 10 years before this, he picked, of course, the notorious Mario Brothers movie to play. And yeah, 10 years before that, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, I believe, came out in 1998. Wow. Holy shit. So you're right. And that movie is one big ball of suck. Dennis Hopper, every 10 years, shitty movie, shitty iconic movie.
00:12:44
Speaker
Um, Tito Ortiz, this cast is fucking nuts. Tito Ortiz, who, ah you know more than I do about him, but he's a shitty fucking actor. I'm not good Danny Trejo I think this is before machete and I even think this may be before some of the Robert you guys movies um and one of the worst performances I've ever seen in a movie ever is Macy Grey I don't know what the fuck rock they got Macy Grey under but she played one of the whores that was in Dennis Cooper's Dennis Hopper's um harem
00:13:20
Speaker
Yeah, this is the movie you don't forget about the guy from fucking Shark Tank. Randall be just smoking a b blunt. Well, he asked me about that. He produced the movie. The guy, Draymond, whatever his name is, I was like, actually produced it because my mom watching Shark Tank and he was in there and he was he was right he was writing them on the limo in the movie. But um based on the novel, not from the comic book of the same name released in the year 2000, not done by Obert.
00:13:46
Speaker
um The mystery of this movie we've talked about it before that the the ah July of 2000 DMX was gonna make his ah his ah crow Lazarus movie um And I was supposed to be a rapper who chooses to leave the music scene for the love of a woman and it's killed during a drive-by shooting the rapper is then resurrected by the crow in order to take it revenge on the gang responsible for his death and you've talked about How the rumor was because of Eminem coming over eight mile. It was gonna be part of the white gang Which would have been funny, but um, but that film never came to be he dropped out of it completely um director Lance Mungia Expected to take the the film that takes six months to make and ended up taking three years To make this film from beginning to actually coming out on on direct to video and that's what exactly and what it would it take you know direct to video didn't
00:14:37
Speaker
I believe it aired maybe in Seattle for one weekend and then it came out on DVD, but 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. Yep. Universally despised by audiences and critics alike for obvious reasons, the fight scenes in this, if that's what you want to call them.
00:14:57
Speaker
Edward Furlong trying to fight as the Crow was the one thing I took from this was awful. well you know the The one thing out of hundreds. And of course he's yeah he's he's definitely strung out on this. There's something wrong with him. The love story between him and Sloane from Entourage. You could believe that if you wanted to. It looked like Edward Furlong was just trying to make out with her and that's the only reason he took this movie on.
00:15:25
Speaker
What's it to be the crow is to make out with Sloan from Entourage, but this movie is trash. um And I know this this made your crow ranking of the new one go way up, which has me excited. This movie was fucking trash. I'm glad we're through the old crows, because this is a history of this this this movie where it started off at such a high point.
00:15:49
Speaker
and studio interferences we've been talking a lot about lately studio interference trying to make the next big thing but not having great creative creative people coming in there and writing these stories and having having stories written but uh we'll talk about the new the new one next week but i hear there's problems with that too i know you may have issues you may like some of it we're going to talk about all of that next week finish this crow watch and talk about where we could go from here um But overall, if I had to rate everything, crow one, four and a half out of five, everything else, zero. it's Grimace is all around. Grimace here, you get a Grimace, you get a Grimace, you get a Grimace.
00:16:32
Speaker
ah crow up to me five out of five every day of the week um it could be for me i'll give i'll give a little love to a city of angels cause i did enjoy that when i was you know fourteen when i saw that fucking lead that fucking lead in that movie though is so bad white spanishish guy artists whatever i wish it killed all nostalgia i had when i rewatched it but yeah i Enjoyed it as a child, but yeah, I mean I'd probably go five one and a half grimace grimace is probably where I'd go one and a half grimace grimace So for me four and a half grimace grimace grimace so far and then next week we'll get into the new one Which between you and Chris who's who's friends of the friend of the pod? Who tells me it's the worst movie he's ever seen and that's not even the worst movie this year
00:17:16
Speaker
Okay. That's good to know. We did see that Christmas tree, murderous Christmas tree movie a couple of years ago. And that was the biggest grimace we've put on this show. So I think up until this week when the crow wicked prayer came out, that would be true. But the the acting in this movie was atrocious. Um, a movie I did like a movie I really liked actually.

Exploring 'Maxine' and Its Hollywood Ties

00:17:34
Speaker
And I think it may be my favorite of the trilogy.
00:17:37
Speaker
Maxine of course we talked about X we've talked about Pearl um and this is Mia Goth Mia Goth coming back as Maxine um and of course actually played the the porn star Set in the 70s. They were kind of in a farm and and they're being murdered by this older lady named Pearl which was the second movie this is our origin story of the old lady who killed everybody in the first one and Maxine is the only one who survived the first movie. So this picks up where that leaves off um And Maxine is it's set in the 80s in l LA um And the thing I love about this movie the most is just the history of Hollywood There's a lot of little like when they go in the psycho house a lot of little history nod gotta to go into the movie Is that the Warner Brothers Backlot or the Universal Backlot? It was really cool to see a lot of that stuff like they took their time with
00:18:30
Speaker
with putting the history of Hollywood in this movie. We saw Back to the Future. We saw the ye the clock tower in the background. There's a lot of cool stuff in there. um And there's also history involved in this. The real Night Stalker. They kind of lumped that into the story as well. That was a real thing that happened in the 80s.
00:18:46
Speaker
Um, the cast in this is incredible too. He brought in a lot of A-listers, uh, Kevin Bacon being the one, uh, Bobby Carnevale, Halsey, who's a singer, um, Lily Collins. We just talked about her recently. Um, Michelle Monaghan, uh, Giancarlo Esposito, he's in everything. Um, and Damon John. Oh wait, I don't know why I had that there because that should be up top. Um, but yeah, Maxine.
00:19:10
Speaker
Great movie. um My favorite of the trilogy. Do you know where this franchise is going from here? Has he talked about making another movie? or I don't think they've talked about making another movie yet. um My favorite of the trilogy of the trilogy is the first one. ah kind of I like them all, but for very different reasons. a Different movies. Yeah, like the first was like a callback to like 70s horror.
00:19:35
Speaker
um which I absolutely loved. Then the second one's like, i I can't compare the second one to any movie I've ever seen, let alone a horror movie. And then this one's more of like a mystery film with without much horror elements to it, um which is probably why it came out in July and not August. Yeah, they're all period people.
00:19:55
Speaker
they're all period pieces. But the second one is set in the 20s, right? So it's very, very much a period. Yeah, which actually worked out. And that's, that's the pandemic of 1918. So in the pandemic, they were going through the times that worked out great for the filming of it. Perfect.
00:20:09
Speaker
But yeah, I mean, they're all like four, or four and a half to me. They're just for different, completely different reasons. yeah Um, her acting, of course, she gives another great monologue and Maxine. This time it's in the beginning and not the end. Um, in the end of Pearl, it was at the end of Pearl where she's just fucking insane. Um, but yeah, I like, I love, I love this entire trilogy as they're all just so different, but yet they all, they fit together so well at the same time. It's weird. Yeah.

Introduction to 'The Conjuring' Franchise

00:20:35
Speaker
ah yeah great movie um another great movie which took me ten years to watch the conjuring I fucking love this movie oh john i have not seen anything other than this one and i'm being told to watch the whole entire series i hear there's some hits and misses with that there is some misses later on like when they get into the spinoffs um there's some misses but yeah um i think conjuring Five just came out. I believe when it was Patrick Wilson's deep. I have it in direction i have it end I have it in the I have it in the notes ah I don't know which one it is um Yeah, Patrick Wilson stars in this veer mitch for Martin Farmer G. I whatever you say her name She was in the psycho remake was that Bates Motel Bates Hotel, whatever. Okay? um Ron Livingston
00:21:21
Speaker
Lily Taylor who was in a movie called the haunting and in the year 2000 with Liam Neeson. That was a great I remember that movie. Yep, and Joey King. She's in a lot of stuff now, but she was a young actress when she was in this 20 million dollar budget made 319 million dollars worldwide. So now you know why this is a franchise because it's low-budget making huge money Studio was happy about that um Franchise has eight films soon to be a ninth. There is a new conjuring movie coming out. I believe 2025 and I didn't write it down but um And it's all set around exaggerated real-life experiences of Ed and Lorraine Warren
00:22:05
Speaker
And they are ghosts, psychics, investigators or that investigated a lot of stuff in the 60s, 70s, and this is one of the stories that happened, um if you want to quote-unquote true story, but it all depends on what your opinion of ghosts are. but um Yeah, I loved it. I love the horror element of this. And I know the second one, the non-debuts. This one you had the doll. I can't remember what's the doll's name. I'm going to say Annabelle. Annabelle. Annabelle. Yeah. That debuts. That becomes a franchise as well. That's based off a true story, which I knew about also in the movie Aquaman at the bottom of the ocean. That's right. That's right. Yeah. Because James Wan did that, too. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. OK. Makes perfect sense.
00:22:51
Speaker
Um, but overall the whole entire franchise has made $2.2 billion. dollars Um, the combined budget of 208 million. So the thing that makes gangbusters for them, it became the highest grossing horror franchise ever. So.
00:23:06
Speaker
Um, I'm looking forward to get into this. I think I may do it. I was going to wait every Halloween, but I think I may do it just this month alone and get it through them all. We'll see. But, uh, yeah, very good. Very good. Um, and give me, and give me nightmares. so That must mean it was good. Um, a movie that I was high on in the beginning.

Review of 'Killer's Game'

00:23:23
Speaker
Kind of low on in like low on in the middle and same and got a little lower at the end. Killer's game. i I liked it in the beginning. I thought it looked really good. This is directed by a loss. It did. I watched it. It directed by a former stuntman named JJ Perry. There are a lot of stunts in the 90s. I think he did Mortal Kombat movies and stuff like that. um But the stars Dave Batista, um ben Ben, Ben Kingsley.
00:23:48
Speaker
um So if you have the chair Batella who was in that movie they rebel moon um palm who was in The Guardian's movies she played Mantis Drew McIntyre. Yes the wrestler he was in this Terry Crews um Alex Kingston, who was in Doctor Who, she played ah Ben Kingsley's wife. But overall, like I mentioned, beginning of the movie, a lot of great stuff happens. You saw it in the trailer the lead, played by Dave Batista, believes he's getting sick and he doesn't want to kill himself, so he and he wants to have this insurance policy paid off to his girlfriend, who was played by the lady who was in Rebel Moon. So he can't commit suicide, so he asks Ben Kingsley to put a hit out on him.
00:24:35
Speaker
Come to find out the wrong results happen and he is going to live so he has to stop the hit. um Ben Kingsley won't do the hit so he goes to Palm and her character hates Dave Batista's character and refuses to release the hit so the whole entire movie after that is Dave Batista running for his life.
00:24:56
Speaker
and some of the action in the middle of the movie was great and then it started going down and I think the ending when it was all set in this weird church at the end that's kind of where it took me out of it same and yeah it it got weird towards the end but overall story itself is good on paper. I think it could have been executed a little bit better. But for me, it's like a probably three out of five. Not something I would go out of my way to watch again. But on paper, it sounded good. And we love this. It's one of those movies where if you're just scrolling Netflix and you see it, turn along, it's an hour and a half. It's not like it's going to take too much time of your day. It's fine. Yep.
00:25:32
Speaker
um A movie I was very, very happy.

Kevin Smith's '430' and 80s Nostalgia

00:25:35
Speaker
I saw the 430 movie, Kevin Smith's new movie. This movie was really good, just came out. A lot of guests guest stars, but the main stars were all young kids. um Austin, who is Harley Quinn's, his daughter's boyfriend, was the lead. Kind of played the Kevin Smith-like character.
00:25:54
Speaker
This is all kind of based off of his life, and we'll get into the after-credits scene in a minute, but this is all kind of based off of Kevin Smith and living in the 80s, sneaking into movie theaters, finding his love for film, and where that goes from there. A lot of guest stars, though. We had Method Man, Sam Richardson. He was in Veep. He's a whole bunch of shit. um Ralph Garman, who I talk about on the podcast every once in a while. He he does a Hollywood Babble on with Kevin.
00:26:19
Speaker
um Ken Jeong, Jeff Anderson, Kevin, Justin justin Long, Jay Muse, Jason Biggs, American Pie, um Dietrich Bader, Logic the Rapper, Rachel Dratch, Jason Lee, Adam Paley, who was in a show called Happy Endings, which is amazing.
00:26:36
Speaker
um and Rosario. So a lot of these actors have been in Kevin Smith movies prior. He did he does that a lot anyway, but um I loved it. And the 80s soundtrack was great. Kind of had a great soundtrack to where this movie was set. Brought you right into it. um In the movie where they're sneaking into, there's a lot of cool fake trailers. Reminded me of those the Robert Rodriguez movies and the Grindhouse movies back in the day.
00:26:59
Speaker
um But overall, the movie is about a teen love story. um But deep down, it it's about an obsessed ah movie lover's love of cinema. And that's basically where the movie ends up going. Where this Austin kid who ends up playing the Kevin Smith character finds his love for movies, sneaking into theater, learning more, reading all the trades at the time. No internet, of course. We're reading all the trades about movies and directors and producers and how movies are made. And that gets you to the mid-credits scene.
00:27:27
Speaker
where he's sitting outside they're talking he's like i gotta to do it i gotta do it i gotta just pull the band-aid off and do it and then they they they go out and you see the the what they're looking at and they're looking at the the the front of quick stop beginning of course he's talking about maybe applying for the job there so we already know that that yeah this is set this is definitely a prequel to kevin's life and i've mentioned it last week i think that Kevin had already talked about if he made a sequel to this movie, it would be him working at Quick Stop and becoming a director and making Clerks. that That would be what the next movie would be. um But yeah, I love this movie. um The After Credit scene was a huge gag reel too, which was great. Brian O'Halloran, who played Dante in Clerks, had a little quick cameo in that. He wasn't he had a cutscene in the movie. He played a priest, which I thought was funny. but
00:28:14
Speaker
Overall good movie. I probably had like a I don't know three and a half out of five. I'm very enjoyable um Yeah, not one of my favorites. We're gonna talk about some more Kevin Smith news later um that I'm very excited for it but yeah um But a couple of big things. This is that I mean Halloween ah We've talked about a couple of movies, but now we're talking about a comic book.

Impact of 'The Long Halloween' Comic

00:28:35
Speaker
The Long Halloween took me two months to read it. I read the first half back in August, I think, when I first got it, and I read the second half this week, but said over in 1996 or 1997, do you remember? i It's around that time sometime. I think it was 96 into 97, yeah.
00:28:53
Speaker
But we got 13 issues that came out and then the deluxe edition, which is the one I have right there. Um, the, uh, the, uh, trade paper, trade, trade paperback, but, um, very good. And you can kind of, you kind of definitely get where the dark night and the Batman begins.
00:29:10
Speaker
And of course, the Batman, you get all the influences from that. And you definitely are are brought into this world. And this story is great because each comic brings in a rogue villain from the Batman Rogue Gallery, which is fantastic. And of course, and there's a bunch of little side stories and stuff as yeah as opposed to just having one main story. yeah This is like one of my all time favorite comics. Yeah. And it's all set up with ah the main villain being Holiday.
00:29:39
Speaker
It's somebody who is killing people in the Falcone family, which we talk about Falcone when we watch the Penguin, um killing people off in the Falcone family little by little and trying to figure out who this holiday villain is. I'm not sure who it is. um and That's the whole mystery of the whole entire miniseries. but um yeah Overall, great. um and the end did the big twistitch There's a couple of big twists at the end, and we're going to get into that in a minute because I wanted to show this first. just like This is just the villains all team up at the end of the movie. We've got Solomon Grundy, Madhat or Joker, Penguin. um yeah We've got Poison Ivy. We've got Catwoman, Scarecrow. They're all team up at the end. but
00:30:22
Speaker
But I did watch the animated version that came out a couple years ago. um That's the Batman Deluxe Edition. they there It was released in two parts. Deluxe Edition released in a complete set. But totally different. I was surprised how they changed the story.
00:30:41
Speaker
The main villain of the comic book, who was a Falcone, the younger son of the Falcones, was killed off in the beginning of the movie. And the villain was completely changed a little bit. I mean, should I get into spoilers? I guess it doesn't really matter. We're talking about the comic book. Yeah, it's a fucking two and a half year old anime film. And I, from what I remember, was the Riddler. Taken out of it completely. The Riddler wasn't in the movie at all.
00:31:10
Speaker
That's right. Okay. And I just remember they changed a lot of it. The villain, the only villain you find out at the end in the in the comic book, you find out that Harvey Dent's wife was protecting Harvey and and doing killings as well on top of the Falcone, Alberto, whatever his name was. And Tony, I can't remember what his name was in the, in the cartoon.
00:31:33
Speaker
the holiday killer was strictly Harvey Dent's wife. She was the one who was doing all the killing. yeah um Also, i know I know this is set in a DC animated universe and it's already been created before. So, like in this and the animated movie, Batman and and Catwoman know their own secret identities to each other. That wasn't in the comic book. He already knew who Joker was. I believe in the long Halloween He is just starting to realize who the Joker was in this. He had had a long history with him at this point in the animated movie. um Other than that, I mean, the cast of this movie, we had Naya Rivera, who was in Gully. She had just passed away a couple years before this, did all of her voices. She played Catwoman. um Jason Eccles, who played Batman. Of course, he's a super supernatural.
00:32:21
Speaker
He uses small abilities and a whole bunch of shit. um Jack Quaid, he played the, uh, the, uh, what's his name, Falcone. Troy Baker does a lot of ah video games, of course, the Last of Us. He did The Joker.
00:32:34
Speaker
Josh Duhamel played Harvey Dent. ah David Jess Malchian played Calendar Man, who played a big part in the and the comic book as well. um and Billy Burke, who was in the Twilight movies, played James Gordon. um and and Titus Welliver, who was in, I can't remember the name of that, Bosch, whatever that show was on Amazon, he played Carmine Falcone. So, pretty huge cast, um voice cast of course. But yeah, I liked it, I liked the comic book a little bit better though.
00:33:03
Speaker
I think the anime series took a lot of detours. and i don know i don't know why I don't know why they stopped the Falcone

Analysis of 'The Long Halloween' Adaptation

00:33:09
Speaker
thing. I don't know why they just made it strictly Harvey Dent's wife, but um yeah, very good. um Very good. I liked it. And we're going to talk about the Krell probably either next week or the week after. I haven't decided yet because I had just got it in the mail this week. I haven't read it yet, but.

Exploring 'Absolute Batman'

00:33:24
Speaker
um And youre we're going to talk about this comic book because you brought it up and I ended up reading it. Absolute Batman number one. The cover on the right is the one you have done by by Jim Lee. yeah And that's the that's the the one on the left is the one that's ah on on newsstand. so um Overall what they're doing is there's some sort of a thing I read it read up a little bit about it where absolute this absolute universe started back in the summers or sometime this year and They're in a whole other universe else world of the DC universe and in this universe Batman
00:34:04
Speaker
is totally different. yeah he's He's poor, huge poor muscular. um Alfred is hunting him down. You find that out in the first issue. Um, and well,
00:34:19
Speaker
Yeah, we talking i dont offerlf it's hunting alfred's hunting criminals um and bat man shows up when alfred's about to take out said criminals and alfred decides to not kill the batman um yeah i love it because i love how it's completely different like and this world his his mother still alive His father is the one that's dead. Yeah. um And his suit, the axe. What'd you think of the axe? That was really cool. He cut some guy's arm off immediately. His ears become knives, which is awesome. And he's stabbing people with Alfred notes. They stabbing people within like millimeters of where he would have killed them.
00:34:56
Speaker
um Yeah, I really like this take because it's completely different different and then of course the it's black mass seems to be the villain of this while they're setting up the Joker will be in it at some point which we see in the epilogue yeah right Great start great start Yeah, great start. um I don't think I'm going to read another issue, but I wanted to, since you were talking about it this week, I wanted to to read into it a little bit and read the first issue. So I did as well. um But the big thing we're going to be talking about this week is one of Kevin's first loves.

Dissecting 'Fight Club' and Its Cultural Impact

00:35:29
Speaker
And that would be a movie called Fight Club and You're gonna be leading this talk a lot. I do have some notes, but um If you had the DVD you saw that warning in the beginning of the movie um This is basically Tyler Burton Tyler talking to the audience about in Warning if you if you watching a DVD you used to always see these warnings. Don't copyright this movie However, this is just basically Tyler telling you off. um I thought it was very funny um But the movie is directed by David Fincher and of course, he's done seven Zodiac girls dragon tattoo gone girl social network um Starring Edward Norton Brad Pitt
00:36:12
Speaker
Helena Bonham Carter who had done ah done a few movies before this but she hadn't really been in the Tim Burton universe yet. Meat Loaf as Bob with Bitch Tits and Jared Leto. Those are the big actors that have big huge movies in this. um I didn't want to bring this up because I always forget about it but the beginning of the movie before you're introduced to Tyler you are seeing these flashes of Tyler throughout the movie in the very very quick scenes like like ah Well, let's hit this. What am I thinking of no like half-second clip? Yeah half seconds not even that and Yeah, you you can't even blink and miss it because You don't see it unless they take screenshots like this and this is what they are It's just him sitting in the background of of different scenes that that the Edward Norton character is looking at but the movie is all about you want to you want to give the yeah a little bit of quick synopsis of the movie, but basically what the movie is about is
00:37:09
Speaker
Yeah, basically, um it's about parts of it are about consume consumerism. um A lot of it was before its time. Of course, this movie, I believe was locked at the box office it did and has since become a cult cult hit.
00:37:21
Speaker
um But yeah, then of course you meet Tyler and they start a fight club together, which is just the beginning of this whole plan to essentially take down corporate America. um and ro reminded me you know It reminded me. It reminded me of a super villain, like a comic book super villain the whole entire time I was watching the end of this movie.
00:37:42
Speaker
Yes, Tyler. We're going to get into some spoilers, but this movie's been out for 25 years. That's why we're doing it. 25th anniversary is on the 15th of this month. um yep And you you meet the character, Edward Norton's character, who you're never really given the name of. In the in the script, I believe his name is Jack.
00:38:02
Speaker
But in the movie, they never just name him yeah the narrator. He narrates the whole entire movie. um And he goes he to the support group, because he's an insomniac. He goes to the support groups to try to feel, I guess. And he all every every time he goes to a support group, he has a different name tag. um The narrator, but he's never named officially. um And he ends up meeting Helen Bonham Carter, her character there.
00:38:27
Speaker
um and then eventually he ends up meeting Tyler on a plane and the big twist of this movie where we're going to get into it now if you haven't seen the movie sorry but um Tyler and Edward Norton's character are the same character um yes he's in some he's an asomniac so he starts having visions of Edward Norton I mean of um Brad Pitt Tyler so i it's like the cruel version of him that if you never risk to be basically but everything that install wants to be yeah everything that Brad Pitt is doing it's actually him he's just kind of showing it through his eyes like he's watching things me he's actually doing it
00:39:07
Speaker
um I thought this was funny when I was taking the notes. Brad Pitt voluntarily voluntarily visited a dentist to remove pieces of his front teeth, chip them off so the character would have not have perfect teeth. um He eventually fixed them after the movie filmed. I thought that was pretty funny. um Original ideas of casting. I like getting into this these these type of things. The narrator, the original idea was Matt Damon or Sean Penn.
00:39:33
Speaker
um Tyler Durden, the original idea was Russell Crowe. This is before Gladiator. um Marla, who was played by Helena Bonham Carter. The original idea was Janine Garoppolo. um And then they were gonna do so Julia Lee Lee Dreyfus, Courtney Love, Winona Ryder, Reese Witherspoon. I think Sarah Michelle Geller was pretty close, but she was still attached to Buffy so she couldn't leave the show. but um So they ended up going to Hela Bonham Carter, who I thought was great in this. um She's awesome. But like I mentioned, the big twist is Tyler is
00:40:06
Speaker
him they're both together they're both the same um and it's foreshadowed throughout the whole entire movie is teasing it like every scene that you see them together there's one scene where Tyler is fighting in the pit and every time he's being hit you see Edward Norton in the corner he's he's wincing like he's in pain too like he's being hit because technically he is um So overall, the movie and like at the very ending of it, like you mentioned, he becomes a supervillain who's trying to take out the world pretty much trying to take out money and everything about of about the one of everything in front of the world. um And it's blowing up the whole entire city. um And Tyler's up and up in the up in the rooftop watching the world fall apart pretty much ah through his eyes. um And then he realizes that he's Tyler and everything happens at the end.
00:40:57
Speaker
um And I know you're a big fan of the book too. So I want to get your take on the book and the movie and comparing in the comparisons of the two and what your what your thoughts of everything are with the movie. um The book, I haven't read the book in, well, 25 years so all because I read it the one and only time after I seen the movie.
00:41:16
Speaker
um but from what I remember the book it goes much more like like in the movie they do all these like terrorist stuff like they blow a bunch of like computer screens for instance in the book he describes how they blow up the computers ah oh by filling basically taking the the light tubes out of the back of them and and Specifically drilling holes where you have to and then filling them with gasoline then covering it up bring it back in the computer And that's why they all blow up um You get in-depth lessons on how to create an a palm in the book or in the movie. They just kind of gloss over it oh yeah and Whatnot, um, and I think in the book The narrator dies, okay, but they end up but there is a second and a third book including the narrator so that might just be like a
00:42:04
Speaker
Yeah, the book, I don't really like it. Okay. Um, yeah, so overall great movie. 25th anniversary of this movie. I want to talk about it. Um, and yeah, I love both of these actors. I love, I love the whole entire cast of this movie. And yeah, St. Meatloaf with be Bitch Tits is weird too. Um, a lot of funny, a lot of funny moments with him in it, but, um, overall great movie. Um, and with that being said, let's get into the news.

Box Office Analysis of 'Joker: Folie à Deux'

00:42:37
Speaker
And it's not a new time without the trailer roundup. Only one trailer to talk about this week, and that is... a complete unknown that bob dillon movie starring uh... nope kimothy shall may army does the singing in this trailer uh... also starring edward norden speaking of fight club not helping uh... movie looks really good and i love his singing this is done by james mangold yeah uh... james v james mangold of course did logan uh... looks really good and i i think they did um... in the trailer they did like a rolling stone i thought you think he sounds just like dylan so we did a great job at that but
00:43:14
Speaker
um weekend box office last week uh joker did 40 million dollars even though uh semi middle mid number it's considered a failure um the movie yeah the movie had a huge budget i think it was like 200 million or something i'm looking forward to watching this movie back to back with the original Um, I suggest, yeah, I know you talked about one new Joker again, but I was just doing that the same week. Um, cause I want to see how it works as a part one and part two, cause I think it'll be working better that way than just single than just on its own.
00:43:47
Speaker
Yeah, I almost watched it this week, and I was thinking the same thing you did so I'm waiting holding off on it um Number two wild robot 18.7. I keep hearing great things about that and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice came out on digital this week 10.3 million dollars for number three um Joker Foley ado suffered an even worse box office in the international um oh Man ah I'm not an international yet. Uh and Even worse in the first movie sorry everybody um 39 million dollars was the first movie it made 37.8 million actually the number went down from what I had in the beginning um it was projected for that and then I think Tuesday the the the ah the regular numbers came out but internationally and This is what I was getting to. um It launched in 76 overseas markets, made 77 million dollars. It was projected to make 81.1. Total earned last week was 114.8 million worldwide.
00:44:48
Speaker
um Like I said 200 million dollar budget plus marketing plus everything else is considered a box office failure um Critically and commercially people aren't liking it um James Gunn has smartly reminded fans and it's not um his and Peter Safran's doing he had no no ah Nothing to do with the movie at all. It was before DC Studios came to be this movie had taken shape And this is Todd Phillips movie completely They had given him full reign, and it's basically considered a Warner Brothers movie from what I read. um not Yes, it is. Walking in Phoenix. um Arthur Fleck was never the Joker, at least that's what Todd Phillips says. um um he was all He's always been Arthur Fleck. I don't want to get into the big spoiler at the end, so I'm not going to read the continue of this article. But um yeah yeah, he's just the unwilling icon, which we kind of get from the first movie anyway. but um
00:45:43
Speaker
But the ah the idea from Joker 2 ultimately came from a dream that Joaquin Phoenix had. um I read that this week. um And Todd Phillips wanted nothing to do with DC. And he was given a $200 million dollar budget. And he's completely taken himself off of social social media, distanced himself from DC now, distanced himself from the character of the Joker, saying he's never going to come back to DC or Warner Brothers or DC again, and continue this character. so Yeah, I don't want to get into the big spoiler that we both know about but um I'm not gonna play this P Diddy watch because we were flagged in Russia in Bulgaria because I did the beginning of Fuck is a song with what's his name? Is it in the what did you do bad boys for life? No, he goes bad boys come out and play that was fine in Russia and Bulgaria so I can't play that right now until I edit that sound but
00:46:40
Speaker
um Did these A-list pals quietly are paying off the victims to avoid being publicly named? um There's gonna be more of this coming out. I don't know if we're ever gonna see this list. By the sound of it, the list is huge, and there's a lot of big names on there, and I'm guessing one of them is probably Uster, because he's, I think... Was it usher and somebody else completely deleted all of their Instagram? Posts around the time that he was arrested, so I'm guessing there's a lot of a lot of Shady shit going on there, but um we'll get into this we'll get to the bottom of this probably in the next next year or two however long he's going into He's gonna be I think January going into trial so he's in jail till then he was denied parole again, so um or denied bail
00:47:25
Speaker
um Will Smith is in talks to star in fast and loose with Michael Bay um He's in talks to direct it a film follows a man who wakes up with no memories But soon learns that he's been living two lives one is a crying kingpin and the other other as an undercover CIA agent God everybody forgives Will Smith pretty easily after he smacked the ship Yeah, the premise of this sounds great. I just wish it wasn't Michael Bay doing it Lots of explosions. Lots of explosions. Richard, movie, ah TV show I need to get into. i'm Renewed for a fourth season on Amazon. I'm gonna be getting to getting into getting into that probably this winter, if I can. um Got a new poster for Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson. The trailer looks great. Steven Yen stars in this. Mark Ruffalo. All about that guy who
00:48:14
Speaker
It's the 17th version of himself as a clone. Comes out on January 31st of next year. So excited about that. Speaking of movies, new popcorn buckets. Got a new popcorn bucket and cup coming out for Gladiator 2 in November. And got new popcorn buckets and cups for Wicked, which comes out in November as well, a week after, I believe. Yeah, I'm excited for both of those movies. Probably Wicked a little bit more, because I can't believe Gladiator is actually being made 20 years later, 25 years later.
00:48:44
Speaker
He is also working on gladiator 3 script right now. Yep. I heard that too. I came out. Yep. Yep. Um, Christopher Nolan's movie set a new date for July 17th, 2026. Christopher Nolan doing another movie. Um, and Matt Damon is in stars and talks to start it.
00:49:01
Speaker
Matt Damon was of course an Oppenheimer, so it makes perfect sense he's bringing in somebody he's worked with before. um Yeah, I'm excited to see no ah no word on what the movie's about. Of course, he keeps that close to the vest until the trailer comes out. And even when the movie comes out, you don't find out what the movie's really about. So I'm kind of excited about that. um Speaking of Christopher Nolan and people he's worked with, Tom Hardy.
00:49:24
Speaker
ah signed on to be in a movie with um done by Guy Ritchie ah called the associate also with Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan coming out on Paramount Plus Sashay series um according to deadline there was it's going to be a gangster drama that was originally going to be a The Donovans is based off a spin-off of Ray Donovan, but that fell through. That was i had Lee of Shriver in it. and Never a show I've never watched but I wanted to see. But it ended up being turned into this movie that Gary Chikiman is going to be directing it on a TV show. But it's all about a gangster family who has family fortunes and reputations at risk and odd alliances and betrayals. So yeah, it's some kind of a kind of some corner kind of a gangster type drama in modern day. Sounds good.
00:50:11
Speaker
Um Limbiscuit has filed a lawsuit against its label Universal Music Group saying that the company is holding back 200 million dollars of unpaid royalties Their music is played everywhere So they must have figured out something especially now for some reason Limbiscuit is having a research in popularity same with Creed Creed is too right now. So I don't know if it's just nostalgia because it's 25 years ago, but um Yeah, we'll see what that happens are gonna be they're gonna be opening for Metallica next year so um Weird news Nintendo announces an interact neck the interactive alarm clock called alarm Oh, I See this on paper and like what the fuck is this and then I watched the video I
00:51:01
Speaker
It looks fucking awesome. Like, if you don't have an alarm clock, and you want an alarm clock, this is pretty fucking cool. um It's interactive, it interacts with you through different characters with the Nintendo universe. One of them being Mario, of course, it's the flagship. Another one being Legend of Zelda. You're gonna have a whole set of time pieces clocks that you can have on there that's gonna change. Like the one I have on the picture here is of Mario, of course, that's all mar that's from Mario, the game Mario.
00:51:31
Speaker
um But you have one that the font changes to a breath of the wild and there gonna be other different downloadable ones throughout the The future of this product whenever it comes out gonna become a 2025 for nine hundred out ninety nine ninety nine hundred dollars um But yeah, I don't know it looks stupid on paper But then seeing the video does look kind of cool watching Link link waking you up running across the screen as you're trying to wake up with your alarm going off. But uh, yeah, um Halo and Major shake up in the studios. um They announced that they're rebranding the studios to Halo Studios and announcing all future games will be shifting to Unreal Engine. what Looks fucking cool. I don't know if you've seen some of the Unreal Engine pictures from Halo, but it does look really cool if they're going to change to that. um But yeah, it was done by 343 Industries and they're rebranding it to a Halo studio. It makes sense. It's their flagship. It's Xbox's one unique property that they have that nobody else has. and It's not on PlayStation.
00:52:29
Speaker
I don't think any of those schemes have ever been on places and there's always been rumors of the Halo and Halo and gears are like the two forces Yeah Which it's weird nowadays because there's so much cross cross-platforming now, but yeah, um, this was announced not officially but leaked out yesterday pictures of the x mansion lego set which looks fucking amazing it has a lot of figures minifigures from x-men there's at the x mansion which is modular you can take off different levels of the house to see the interior um and you get also a big sentinel that's fighting in there too on the on the right corner with gambit wolverine professor xavier every every x-men that you know in love is in there looks really cool um yeah legos are awesome expensive as fuck but awesome
00:53:22
Speaker
um A Quiet Place game, I think we talked about a while ago. There's going to be a console game coming out and you can choose if you have a console and the microphone feature is on your console. um In real life, if you're if you're making noise on your on your controller or your or your microphone, whatever you're using, the alien the aliens will come and attack you. Like in the movie, when you make noise, they kill you. That's going to happen in the game too, which is kind of cool.
00:53:50
Speaker
Becoming out on PC and consoles next year um John Malini this is kind of weird because late night TV is one of those things where it was huge what 20 years ago 30 years ago Before the internet now people aren't watching late night anymore. It's more Quick clips the next next day on Facebook or YouTube or wherever you're getting your quick social media clips That's basically where they're getting their views now But another late night show is coming on Netflix. Starring John Mulaney. Weekly talk show coming out in 2025. And he had it he had a successful show last year. There was a live show set in l LA. Everybody's in LA is what it was called. But it's going to be a live weekly talker. um It's going to be starring John Mulaney. He's going to be bringing guests on there. And the first live thing that's going to be on Netflix, of course, is WB Raw. But they're going to be testing it more and more with stuff like that, too. So it's kind of cool.
00:54:47
Speaker
um Another movie announced by Paul Feig, Sidney Sweeney, and an Amanda Seyfried to star in Lionsgate adaptation of The Housemaid. um I've read the synopsis of this, I forgot what it was about, but Paul Feig of course did Bridesmaids, um he did spy movies with, he's done a lot of movies with Melissa McCarthy, but Sidney Sweeney of course Hollywood's Darling right now. so um The new Karate Kid film has been titled, Karate Kid Legends. Comes out sometime next year, um of course bringing in the two universes of Karate Kid with a rough macho Jackie Chan, Ming Na Wen, a whole bunch of other people coming out for this movie. but
00:55:29
Speaker
Yeah. um Big Bang Theory. I don't think you watch too much of it and or any of it. No. um Gonna be making another spin-off of that movie, of that TV show with three D-list characters on that show.
00:55:44
Speaker
There were they were kind of just on every other episode just like quick scenes with interacting with the main characters of the show But they're gonna be doing a spin-off one of the guys and on the left there is the one who was the owner of the comic book shop they always went into every week um and They'd be kind of cool to see a show set in a comic book shop, but other than that I don't know. I don't know why this show is still still have so much steam to it, but to each his own Um, Elam McGregor reveals that they're currently exploring ideas for Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 as that he wants to wear the Clone Wars armor and have more flashbacks with Hayden Christensen. I'm not opposed to that but they need to reel in the writing of
00:56:29
Speaker
Whatever they did for that first season, because that first season could have easily been a movie. um It was way too long. Way too much shit happened into it. Like the fight scenes were great. The the interaction with him and Hayden were great. But other than that, we could have gone without most of that series. um The Leia stuff. The Leia stuff. We didn't like that when we saw it. but um Speaking of Star Wars, a Star Wars Episode One, Jedi Power Battles.
00:56:54
Speaker
A game that came out in 2000, I believe it was on PlayStation only, yeahp um and um but it's gonna be coming out enhanced on Nintendo Switch PS4, 5, Xbox Series S and X and PC on January 23rd, 2025 for 20 bucks.
00:57:11
Speaker
um Yeah, I've never played it. I think it was a play and PlayStation exclusive, so I never owned it. But um yeah, we'll see about that. I saw this news today. I wanted to bring it up today. um The director of the last Ghostbusters movie, Frozen Empire, has gone on to say that they're going to be making more more Ghostbusters films. um He also said that Netflix is going to be making a Ghostbusters series, animated series.
