Hello, how are we doing? week what the chi ain't up in the door good to hear to fail First full day of summer. he just blurrt his heil Yeah, there's a report today let sal but my story's all back not just what up What's up to tell it as we record today, oh, yeah, yep 21st damn. Yep warm warm couple days. We just had a I know. think tomorrowa was little dad This week was awful. Juneteenth. It felt like the 4th of fucking July. like i It was fucking nonstop from like 11 to close. It was awful. Awful. And it was so hot, I didn't even eat all day. yeah It was awful.

Celtics' Journey and Key Players

00:01:32
Speaker
Well, we have some sports news we we need to break into, so let's do a Tea Tree Sports.
00:01:40
Speaker
This is the theme to teach race sports We need a theme for teach race sports I couldn't think of anything that would be original I stole this instrumental from the Gary Shanley show This is the theme to teach race sports This is the theme to teach race sports So Kevin Yes sir Do you want to start this off this week? I suppose so the Boston Celtics are now the 18th time world champions more than Ric Flair FYI. Okay. But I want to talk to you about how they got here. Today was the parade. It looked awesome. There was 1.5 million people in Boston and Boston's not that big of a city. Um, so this story goes back to 2008.
00:02:35
Speaker
when we won the championship. We had Garnett, Pierce, Allen, great run. First round of that so of the playoffs, we played this young up and coming Atlanta Hawks team whose best player was 22 year old Al Horford. Fast forward to 2013, Celtics trade Garnett and Pierce to the Brooklyn Nets for two first round picks in the future, which would end up being in 2016, 2017. In 2015, we signed Al Horford, first time ever we've given somebody a max contract that didn't play for us previously. We signed him away from the Atlanta Hawks, he was one of the best centers in the game at that point. 2016, we take a leap of faith in drafting Jalen Brown, who nobody wanted us to draft. like They got booed out of the building when they drafted him. A lot of people said a knock on him was that he was too smart for the NBA, cuz he's like a fucking genius, apparently.
00:03:30
Speaker
Anyways, we take him with a third overall pick.

Management Changes in Celtics

00:03:33
Speaker
The next year, we get the third we get the number one overall pick. We trade down to the number three, collecting more assets in the future. We take Jason Tatum, now probably a top five player in the NBA who just led us to a championship. Along the way, we hired Brad Stevens to be the head coach. And in 2021, 2020, he had one year left on his contract to coach. Danny Ainge ends up, quote unquote, retiring. Brad Stevens just takes the job as GM, just stops coaching, or whatever takes the job as GM. um We hire, oh, this is 2021, sorry, hire Emilio Duca, guys,
00:04:14
Speaker
Very well known as being a very good coach. He's never been a head coach before hire him Uh, six days for preseason was gonna start last year. He gets caught in a scandal, right? He takes us to the NBA finals his first year as a head coach. We're losing six of the warriors. He gets caught in a scandal. He was sleeping with a member of the higher ups in the Boston organization, the wife of somebody in the organization. So he gets fired. What's in that? What's that? Hold on. Wasn't that Tia, uh, me, uh, me along or whatever, and whatever. knee long dress Yeah. He was engaged in the along and he had something right.
00:04:50
Speaker
with a member of the organization's wife. I remember hearing about that. We may have talked about it at the time. Yes. yeah So we brought in Joe Missoula, 34 years old. Danny Ainge actually came out of retirement after about six months and went to Utah and wanted to bring Joe Missoula there and the organization said no. Good thing we did because Joe Missoula ended up being a okay head coach. He had a lot of weird issues with the the way he would call timeouts or wouldn't call timeouts in certain situations. um All that was cleared up in year two, but I mean the guy was 34 years old being the head coach in the team. um So yeah, game into this year, um Brad Stevens does
00:05:28
Speaker
and an incredible job trading away, a beloved player in Marcus Smart. He brought in Chris S. Prozingis, he brought in Jeru Holliday, who is known as like one of like the greatest like team members, ah team players, I guess. like All of his former teammates all loved the guy. um He won a championship with Milwaukee a few years ago. And this year they were finally able to do it. A lot of people were saying that they didn't beat anyone because a lot of players were injured that they had to like Miami had a lot of injured players we beat them four games to one. um Same with who we played in the second round four games to one and then we swept the Pacers to get there.
00:06:06
Speaker
um But still people, everybody picked against us in the national media to lose. um Stephen A. Smith was going on record as saying he has sources that Jalen Brown is one of the most disliked players in the NBA by his teammates. So today at the parade, Jalen Brown wore a shirt. All it said on it was state your sources. um A lot of people have been trying to pit Jaylen and Jason against each other for some reason. I don't know why. um But like it's come out in the last couple of days that Jason Tatum took himself out of the All-Star game this year or asked the coach to take him out so that Jaylen could get the minutes and win the MVP of the All-Star game, which ended up happening. Jaylen just signed a $300 million dollars contract last year. Jason's about to get one for probably $320 for like four years.
00:06:56
Speaker
um So this team is probably going to be around a while.

Celtics' Promising Future

00:07:00
Speaker
they've been to Since they've been been playing together, they've been to six out of seven Eastern Conference Championships. And they've won two of them going to the finals twice. And they're now one in one of the finals. So we'll see what happens next year. But this team could be on top considering everyone just signed up here for the next three years. At least I think Holiday signed a two-year extension and Porzingis also signed an extension. So we could inevitably see them win three or four more championships, but we'll see. and It was just great to see them finally break through because everyone was talking about how they would never be able to break through. And like I said, everyone picked against them playing Dallas. And we also got to beat Kyrie Erring, who is now one in 13 since stomping on Lucky, so fuck that guy.
00:07:46
Speaker
I'm glad we talked about that last week. I didn't know that. That's yeah pretty damn funny that that all happened. Yeah. Yeah. and What a curse. Yeah. I took a picture. I think, yeah, it was ABC news out of Boston, had this picture of all the championships that Boston has had since nineteen with the Red Sox. Yeah. And all of the. yeah All of the green, all 18 championships since 1957. It's just incredible. yeah And they had won, like you said, since 2008. And then before that it was With Larry Bortberg.
00:08:20
Speaker
yeah like And that team should have won more too, but that's like, everyone started getting injured. And then Larry Bird was fucking too stubborn to pay for something to plow his driveway and fucked up his back. Which is, he actually fucked up his back doing that, not fucking playing basketball. So his career was shortened by about five years because of that situation. But, uh, yeah. Is he still a hero in Boston? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. He's kind of fine. Everyone in Boston loves him still. I know he went to the bases and he started any coach there, too, or someone. He's coached. He's been their GM forever now. He's been their GM for like 20 years. But he's from Indiana. So there's no ill will. He still comes back to Boston. He was at the guard in when they won the championship on Monday, as well with a lot of other older players. But like the biggest thing is like Brad Stevens taking the GM job.
00:09:11
Speaker
Everyone thought he was gonna do that for like a year and then go to Duke cuz Coach K was retiring or go to Indiana cuz he was like he brought Butler to like the Final Four in the NCAA tournament and Danny Ainge everyone thought Danny Ainge after Dockers left everyone thought he was gonna bring in like a Hall of Fame type coach and he goes he picks up this 35 year old guy who looks like he's been working at H and&R Block to coach the team and basically rebuild them and then he took the job as GM and made some fantastic moves. We all loved Marcus Smart, but he had to get rid of him. It was just like when the Red Sox traded no more away the year they won the championship. you know you got ah Sometimes you got to pull off the the bandage a little bit and to you know heal the wound. but
00:09:50
Speaker
Yeah, it was a great, great week of celebrating for Boston sports. That's awesome. Yeah. Yeah. Good time to be a fan. Yeah. Yes. And, uh, from all those years and months of sitting on the edge of your seat, hoping that they win a championship and actually have it happen. And then meanwhile, in LA, LeBron continues to completely ruin the Lakers by having them sign his, one of his best friends, somebody who's represented by his agent to be their head coach with no coaching experience. ever so good job LeBron they're gonna draft his son they're gonna draft his son in the second round whoever's like less than four points a game of college just because right I can see it happening because of the name yeah okay that's cool congratulations so let's get into what we watched this week I'm continuing my Dexter watch
00:10:42
Speaker
yes
00:10:45
Speaker
We'll talk about season three.

Dexter Season 3 Discussion

00:10:47
Speaker
I did finish season three. Now season three had Miguel, a new character, came came in a DA, played by Jimmy Smiths. I thought he did a great job. And he also became like a protege. He came a protege to Dexter towards the end. yep um And he had this really, really cool murderous rampage. The Dexter kind of let go out of control and he had to take care of it by the end. It was awesome. um The whole entire serial killer of this whole season was the the Skinner. um yeah And he was a ah he was a Latin Mexican man who was skinning people, taking skin off of them, murdering them. Very cool. We had two new additions to the cast. Quinn, I know you've mentioned him, a new detective took took over for Dokes.
00:11:33
Speaker
And Anton, who was a love interest to Deb, a sister. Anton's awesome too. I liked him a lot. He's just very chill. And like you mentioned, he's an arrow. Yep, he's an arrow. Quinn. um as you progress he's like the incredibly shrinking actor um he just like keeps losing more weight like he looks like he has a low t-cell count by like season five um but i really like quinn as a character and he's also kind of another like foil for dexar type deal which you'll see a little bit like he kind of they kind of gave him a little bit of like What? Dokes had and I'm like kind of like suspicious of Dexter um Being like an outsider that hadn't known him for years like everyone else was yeah um Yeah, overall. Do you like this season? I did like it. I Like you mentioned the weaker of the first three. However, yes
00:12:20
Speaker
Show's great. So I started season four. I got two episodes in today. cool By next week we will talk all about the triniity the Trinity Killer. um They brought in the FBI agent who has had the love affair with them. They brought him in again. Yes, I love Lundy. I do. And you know who he he he's the brother of? He's the brother of Robert Carradine who was the lead in Revenge of the Nerds. Oh no kidding, I did not know that. That's awesome. I think it's Robert. robert there's There's three of them. The one who played Kung Fu, and then there's the one who was the that the lead of Engine of the Nerds, and then in him. okay um He's the brother of them.
00:12:58
Speaker
But yeah, John Lithgow, the very first scene of this season is him in the bathtub, which is fucking crazy. yeah did he win i Did he win any awards, Emmys, for this season? I honestly have no idea. He is fantastic, though, in it. And this season has a lot of like, like this season so far, I've had like some twists, but this season has like a twist that just It's very cool. I really like how it unfolds as you get into the season a couple really good twists in my opinion, but um Yeah, let's go is incredible. I mean he's just always such a good I mean he can play this character after playing the dad on like 30 Rock for so long plus Harry Anderson's like yeah He's just an incredible actor
00:13:39
Speaker
yep Yeah, he's trained in in so and probably Juilliard. I don't even know what he's trained in. I think he is Juilliard. um Yeah, great. I can't wait to get into season four. Probably hopefully finish it by next week. We'll talk about it a little bit more.

House of the Dragons Season 2 Premiere

00:13:51
Speaker
um Some great premieres this week. First one is House of the Dragons season two. ah I know you have a lot to talk about, so I'm going to let you lead this one a little bit, but we'll mention some ah key points. Very beginning of the episode, very first thing we see are the Starks. yeah oh All from the whole entire Game of Thrones, they were throughout the whole entire beginning series. Now we see them debuting on this series for the very first time up on the wall in the north. So yeah, we want to talk about this a little bit in this time period.
00:14:23
Speaker
Okay so this Stark ends up becoming known as, I mean this is kind of a spoiler but I don't care because it's not that important of a story because he's kind of in and out of the story anyways, but he ends up being known as the old man in the North um because he lives to be like fucking 70 years old. So that's a spoiler that he's not gonna die but whatever. um But this Stark is awesome. he's His father is the one that bent the knee in the first season to Rhaenyra and to like saying that he would, you know, whatever. um And basically his father died when he was 13. And so his uncle was are Lord of the North until or supposed to be until his 16th birthday.
00:15:03
Speaker
Basically, his uncle was like, fuck you, I'm go just going to be keeping the Lord of Winterfell. So eventually when he was right before he would have seen him in this episode, he uprises against his uncle and impresses his uncle and all of his cousins in Winterfell. And so like this is like right after he basically became the the Lord of Winterfell. He's very, very stark. He's very much like Ned, very much like Torrin Stark, the first Stark that bent the knee to Aegon the Conqueror. um He's got like some Jon Snow in him, too. He's a great fighter. um And he has a huge role to play in the series, even though you won't see him as much as you would like. Because it's like winter is there. um And did you like it like when Jace is there, and he's like, what is this what is this falling? He's like, this is just summer snow. Wait till you know the winter actually hits. right oh Because he had never seen snow before. um But yeah, I really, really like this Stark a lot.
00:16:02
Speaker
Even though he's not in the books too much, I've just read up about him. He just seems like a really cool character. um And then, of course, The End, which is something I've been waiting for since they announced this show. Yeah, you've been mentioning this for a while, the whole Blood and Cheese storyline. And how they would do it. um Yeah, the difference between this and the books. I hear there's some differences I'd like to hear. There is a difference. um The main difference being they have a third child in the books. So they have the oh You have the twins who are six years old and then they have a three-year-old younger brother. um The daughter is sleeping with the mother when blood and cheese come into the hall. And so basically what happens is they hold both kids at knife point and they say, choose which one you want to die. So she chooses mailer, the three-year-old. And blood looks over and he goes, remember your mother always wanted you to die. And they cut the throat of the other one.
00:16:58
Speaker
And they like saw off his head. Um, I think for this medium, I think the choice they made was better because you don't want to see a six year old get like, decapitated like I think the sounds as the camera panned out at the end of the episode, as she ran away and it panned to her. from yeah sounds I think that was a much better way to do it in this medium. Um, it was dope in the book. So just the way that is, like, I think they pulled it off. Well, um, And I really look forward to next episode and the fallout from all of this is when shit starts getting like crazy. Um, cause now they've each done something bad. Like I said, this story really doesn't have anyone you want to root for, except I mean, you just have to root for Renara cause she's like the rightful heir. Um, and of course, Amen's just so awesome. Um, and Variety did that fakeout arc where they put Amen on
00:17:48
Speaker
why did why they killed off this character or whatever. um But there's gonna be a lot of death in probably the season and going forward. So you're gonna see a lot of articles like that is my guess.
00:18:01
Speaker
But, uh, what'd you think of this the episode? I thought it was great. Uh, the ending, like you said, the crunching of the, of the decapitation or when they, when they kind of spanned off the camera. Yep. Very menacing. Very awesome. Leaves you thinking for sure. But yeah, I can't wait to see the rest of the season. I love how her only line in the show was I want Amen Targaryen. Yep. And like that whole thing, like. The whole Blood and Cheese thing in the book, like they don't even go in there for Aemon. They go in there for the son of the king. They go in for that, so like that's different also. But I like how they added that little twist of him sending them in there for Aemon. But yeah, Aemon's off doing like fucking shit elsewhere in the box. He's off doing fucking shit, yeah.
00:18:46
Speaker
Yep, so yeah that's gonna be on every yeah every Sunday for the next probably eight weeks or so. There's a ten weeks out It's it's only eight episodes this season probably for pacing which as you notice this episode was longer than most anyways Yeah, I hope they're all about me next week 72 minutes. I heard today today. Yeah, so I hope they're all longer than the hour and For pacing reasons, that's probably how they decide to tell this part of the story. Yep. Yep cool so yeah we'll have until the end of uh july to watch that and then we also have the boys episode four ah um finally picked up i was a little disappointed in the first few episodes everybody's saying homelander anthony star should won at least win an emmy for this episode because there's a menacing laugh that he does he i weren't saying he should be joker yeah he tortures all there's a flashbacks there's kind of like this flashback session throughout the whole entire episode
00:19:35
Speaker
where it shows they tell what his origin story of his birth, um where he was held captive, where they were doing testing on him as a child.

The Boys: Homelander's Backstory

00:19:45
Speaker
um And at the very beginning of the episode, he goes down in the basement of this room where all of these scientists and lab workers are. And supposedly, these are all the people that raised him. And it meaning that they also raised him, but they also did experiments on him. And he went down there for the ultimate revenge and started just killing people. Um, there is one guy who, who he remembers when he was in the oven and they were doing these heat tests on him, trying to burn his skin. Didn't burn his skin, but he said it hurt like hell. It was the most pain ever.
00:20:22
Speaker
um And there was a guy waste paper basketball through a window as he's burning when he was a child. So he sees this guy as an adult and he gets, he kind of gets aggressive with him and tells him to get in the oven. I want you to watch me while I'm doing paper basketball. And he goes into the oven and Homelander burns him alive. Very gruesome scene. yeah The next scene is this guy who used to be friendly friendly with him. And he had a nickname for him. The nickname was Squirt. Because he caught him masturbating. So he nicknamed him Squirt and to make fun of him. Well, Homelander's like, you better start jerking off right now or I'm going to laser your dick off. And he's like, you're getting it hard right now. Couldn't get hard, so what does he do? He lasers him right through his asshole. Lasers his dick off. Guy bleeds out.
00:21:19
Speaker
And then the very end, the leader of this whole entire group, this woman, comes down from the elevator, and they go to what they call the Bad Room, where a lot of shit happened to Homelander. And you don't see it happen, but he grabs everybody else that was in the laboratory, puts him in there and watches, as she's watching him, destroy and kill and murder and maim everybody around her. and She's covered in blood. He's covered in blood. There's a scene where he has is really really really thick but Just just laugh like that everybody's saying like that's the laugh that's gonna get him and an Emmy um And he's leaving the room on an elevator completely covered in blood It was awesome the whole entire scene with him the whole every scene with him in this episode was awesome.
00:22:03
Speaker
My, my only issue with that whole thing about like how they treated them is I don't know about you, but if I'm a scientist working in this laboratory where they have essentially created a superhuman. Yeah. I don't think I would fuck with them. Like if there's a child. Well, even, um even they say that she said like you didn't want to leave. You had every ability to leave, but you wanted to stay here. Like you wanted the connection with people. Like that's what you didn't leave here. You could have left. You could have killed everybody when you were a child, but you decided not to. Yeah, yeah, I thought that was a little odd, but I think this entire episode was just so awesome It was um like as we're about to talk about like the sister sage. I like how like they were like She's like a superhero, but I'm like, she's just really smart Well, they actually gave you a reason as to why she's a superhero because her
00:22:48
Speaker
her brain regenerates right so like she just keeps absorbing all this information which is why she's the smartest person alive basically yeah um yeah she ends up getting the deep the answer she ends up getting the deep because she's been having this fuck relationship with him to give her a frontal lobotomy for her eye and And I mean the deep for the whole entire series He's been great. Yeah, but the the stuff like this. He just brings out like he's like I don't want to do it I want I don't want to do it, but I'll fuck I'll let you fuck me in the ass like Okay, where do I go right next to your eye? How do I do this? He's like He's awesome. And of course, I forgot to mention it last week till the Swinton Swinton did the voice of the octopus last episode. Yep
00:23:34
Speaker
But yeah, this this series has been great. We got one more season of this, so we've got four more episodes this year. um And then we got Gen V. There was a little nod to Gen V in this, too. Like, ah where are all those kids from that massacre in the college? So kind of glad I watched that, so I understand it a little bit. um And then this week we had Who Killed WCW? Episode 3. The one we've been waiting for. The one we've been waiting for, the whole reason that this show, this whole entire documentary happened was because of Vince Russo.

WCW's Decline Under Vince Russo

00:24:05
Speaker
And all the blame for WCW could pretty much go on his shoulders. And I think they did a great job depicting that. In 1999, Vince Russo had already worked for WWF. He is the one that wrote everything for the Attitude Era. um Of course, yeah it was filtered through Vince McMahon. So all the bad ideas,
00:24:25
Speaker
Yeah. Didn't show up on television. All the good ones did. So when they hired him at WCW and he jumped ship in 1999, they gave him full creative control with no filter. And then we got what we got on television. and um Of course, he was a fan of Stern. We've already talked about that before in the past. um He wanted that slut, that that that that Jerry Springer-like television. He was a television guy, more than a wrestler, writer. writer He was writing for television to get people to watch. So he was thinking, well, Smut will be what people want to would watch come back every week and see these storylines play out. But he had nobody filtering that out. He was in charge of everything, every single thing that was on television.
00:25:10
Speaker
So it kind of lost and went off the rails quite a bit. um and then this is also yeah And then this is also around the time that Eric Bischoff wasn't there. um Hogan wasn't there for for different reasons. He ended up coming back and that's a whole other story we'll talk about in a minute. But this is also the time where everybody starts jumping ship the opposite direction. You have the radicals who are Benoit, Guerrero, meenko and perry saturn all end up i think so just
00:25:42
Speaker
Benoit won the title on a pay-per-view. Two weeks later, they all showed up front row at a Raw. You remember that night where you watched it? I do remember that night. And there was no announcement that that they were jumping. They were just in the front row. um That was the first acquisition. And of course, Jericho that summer, too. um they did They did do him dirty, though, in WCW. That was all bitched off at the time. that didn't Didn't think he could be a main eventer. I think it was um And then the storylines get worse and worse. Like we always mentioned the Judy Bagwell on the pole match.
00:26:16
Speaker
The Viagra on a pole match. Everything on a pole match. um They changed the logos. They changed everything to make it more extreme. Make it more like a WCW kind of thing. um These are bringing all these WCW guys to under Russo. That's when they brought in. Raven was there, I think, first, but that's when they brought in Sandman. Tank Abbott was there. There's a whole bunch of, but yeah, like UFC, ECW guys. They didn't really go after the WWE. Mike middle one like go yep. ECW, yep. Yeah, um but he also the the good thing that he talked about which is true is a lot of the under under guys like Booker T We're being held down. So I will give him credit for actually Standing up for all of the old guard like Kevin Nash.
00:27:05
Speaker
like hokogan which we'll get into in a minute but yeah he did stand up for burkerti we'll get into that in a minute well let's talk about ready to rumble now we saw this movie in the theater when it came out david arquette yep um and it was it was a big huge thing with wcw and ready to rumble the producers where they were going to bring in their wrestlers they're going to tell this story of wcw they were going to bring in wcw wrestlers to star in the movie And they're going to do cross-promotion. so So not only that, they had the three the triple the triple cage that we talked about. But they also brought in David Arquette to come on to WCW Nitro in Thunder and promote the movie. And Vince Russo's idea, is actually Tony Schiavone's idea, was, hey, we got David Arquette, we have this whole huge match happening with the world title. Why don't we have David Arquette win the world title?
00:27:57
Speaker
And the groans throughout the wrestling community, when he did win this title, it actually happened. yep Set off a nuclear... don't think I was watching Debbie's W at the time. I i was, i I remember I was watching him, but this was towards the end of my watching. right um But David Arquette did win the title, ended up, ended up um he there was a story in the documentary he talks about, he went backstage, it's like, Well, I can't believe I won it. He's like, Booker, how many titles have you won? How many world titles have you won? And so I never won the title before. and David, I kind of kind of was like, oh, shit. and Like, I really took this from somebody that should have won the title. He ends up doing a promo. I think it was either the next nature or the next thunders and and and and vacates the title and says people like Booker, she Booker T should be winning this title. Yeah.
00:28:45
Speaker
So let's jump jump forward a little bit to Hogan versus hogan and Russo at Bash of the Beach 2000, this whole entire showdown that they had. um Hogan, we've talked about it, he was the he had creative control in his contract so anything that they wrote, including Vince Russo, he could knock down no matter what and there's nothing they can do about this in his contract. Vince Russo being Vince Russo is like, fuck you. You don't want it. You don't want to work for for what I write. I'm going to bury you. And that's exactly what he did on this pay-per-view. There was a finger poke of doom that he did with Jeff Jarrett. Jeff Jarrett went down on the ring. Hogan won the title with no fight, nothing. um And Vince Russo, supposedly all of this was part of storyline.
00:29:35
Speaker
The part that wasn't part of the storyline is Hogan actually left with the title, with Eric Bischoff in the limo going to the airport, and Vince Russo shows back up on television on a pay-per-view and starts burying Hulk Hogan, telling how his backstage shit, his his His creative control clause, all of this stuff was was hurting the fans, badmouthing him, badmouthing all of the old guys and and saying the new guard should be higher up and people like Booker T should be winning the title. So at the very end of the night, I can't remember who he was facing, but it was but Booker T and Jeff Jarrett, that's what it was. yeah um And that's when that's when Booker T won the title for the very, very, very first time. um But yeah, the political pull, the creative control,
00:30:20
Speaker
Hogan got pissed because they he kept they kept getting phone calls on the way to the airport. Like, there's some shit going on. You're being, you're being fucking bad mouthed on live television right now. It's like, what the hell? So Hogan sued them. LeftWCW never came back again. This is kind of like the beginning of the end of everything. Eric Bischoff never showed up again as well. This is kind of the end of them. um But yeah, the this episode was great. and It explained this well, so well. um
00:30:51
Speaker
and and Vince Russo, they did a thing on social media. How many times did Vince Russo say bro in this episode? and It ended up being like 323 times or something like that. But yeah, this this was great. um This is all on Vice. You said that you had a hard time getting it on YouTube. Yeah, the third episode was not uploaded by Vice. Somebody else uploaded it. ah But they basically took out all of the in-ring segments from the Bash of the Beach 2000. Would you know I saw the episode of of Dark Side about it. i It just felt weird watching the documentary having it like all like chopped up towards the end. So I ended up just buying it. Yeah, it's $6.99 for the whole season pass on iTunes right now. um But this is great. And the next week is all about the final Nitro. was victim This week Man bought WCW and how that happened and how Shay McMahon ended up showing up on Nitro.
00:31:41
Speaker
At the very end and bought it. It's very very cool. Um, there's a lot of behind the scenes I guess somebody would had a camera like a like a hand camera and they were Recording backstage and there's a lot of stuff that we're in not we've never seen before so we'll talk about that next week also acolyte episode episode three I don't know the things in the way. Um for um Kiai Monday. We'll talk about that. Very first time we see a character that has been developed in Star Wars. um And everyone's upset about it. Everybody's upset about it. Do we do we know in canon how old this species gets? okay Here's the deal with the canon stuff. um The way George Lucas always had canon, which is why I never got into a lot of the stuff that he didn't do, um you got the movies.
00:32:32
Speaker
ye Then you got the TV show Clone war con Wars. yep Then you got the legend stuff, external universe stuff. yeah But basically his whole thing was they can write whatever they want, but each thing up trumps. So like his age was in like a DVD, a CD-ROM that came out before episode one. ah His age was in that, and they made a Toss playing card in that. They also had him have a purple lightsaber in that, which never actually happened. So basically, as things progressed, George would be like, I don't care about that. If I want him to be a certain age in my movie or my TV show, then it's different. um So he moved he always moved Cannon around to fit the story he was telling, um which is why a lot of people were angry. because
00:33:18
Speaker
They think that like they're like we know the year he was born. He should he's not born for another 40 years And it's like well that was like unlike something that George probably had fucking no idea They even made that shit up right at the time because he licensed everything out to so many different people um Because there's a bunch of stuff that happens in the books that he he basically Decanonized and recantinize for the movies and the Clone Wars especially stuff like that. Yeah, that's um so That's one thing. And also, the other thing is people, obviously, Kiadi has that line in Phantom Menace that we haven't seen the Sith for 1,000 years. Well, in this, they don't call them Sith. They think another Jedi. yeah They think a Jedi is training her, not a Sith character. So to me, I don't think it breaks canon. um People are just mad because if George Lucas still had Star Wars and he did the show the exact same way, nobody would bitch about anything.
00:34:12
Speaker
ah Cause you remember all the hate that prequels got? I mean, we didn't like them back in the day, but like now you have all these generations of kids that grew up on the prequels and those are like their trilogy. Um, so they're the ones jumping all over what's going on in the acolyte, not the people that grew up for the most part with the original trilogy. It's all the kids that were are now like 30 who saw the prequels and they're nine, 10 years old. Um, and they're all getting bent out of shape about it. Cause that's also the generation that read a lot of the books that are coming out more so than like our generation um so i mean does it break canon maybe to some but to me well we don't know it's fine with it because i love kiyadi monday
00:34:55
Speaker
I have been a supporter of his. He's the only action figure I bought from episode one. Remember I told you I thought Rey was going to be a Kiyote Monday because of the forehead? Yes. But that did not play through. So I was just happy to see Kiyote Monday. They could have avoided everything just by having him be like a relative if they wanted him to, but they wanted to use Yoda apparently and they were like Yoda's off limits. um but yeah listen made the most sense have any Yeah, the thing that pissed me off the most about this episode was you have a fucking Wookiee Jedi and you don't see his death yeah like At all? It would have been cool to see him in flashbacks or something. Maybe we will. Show's not over yet. Like they ended episode two on like
00:35:42
Speaker
the wookie jedi like walking into his little hut and you're like all right he's gonna do something and then in this episode they just show him and he's just already got like a lightsaber thing through his chest or whatever and i'm like come on what the fuck are we doing over here disney Yeah, this sucked for the most part. know I didn't think I didn't think it sucked. I think the ending we see this dark Jedi who they're not sure like you mentioned, not sure they don't know what a Sith is. They're not sure. But he goes up against this whole entire group of Jedi and leaves it kind of like an open ending. I hope we get a fucking destruction next week. Like I hope yeah it's just a dope battle, um yeah which is what the show showrunners promised us. So we'll see.
00:36:22
Speaker
Yep, yeah, I'll have to wait and see, so that'll come out on Tuesday night. The brass documentary, I don't know if you had a chance to watch this or not. I'm gonna tell you not to watch it, because it was okay. It's on Hulu. Andrew McCarthy, part of the Brat Pack, directed it, produced it, recorded it. Brought in celebrities, Emilio Estevez, Ali Sheedy, John Cryer, Leah Thompson, Demi Moore, Rob Blow, to do interviews for this. Molly Ringwald, probably most known. for the for the brat pack, did not be did not be take part in it. Judd Nelson he kept turning it down and appearing in the documentary a bunch of times throughout. The focus is on St. Elmo's Fire, which I've never seen. It's gonna be in my watch list soon. Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink. And a lot of those movies that kind of surrounded that time. um it iss all about the The reason that a lot of people don't like it is because it seemed like ah they were whining and bitching about the name of ah of being called brat
00:37:19
Speaker
um actually interviewed that this guy who did the article in ah we'll say i can't remember i wrote it down here somewhere i'll get to it in a minute but he wrote this article all about the brat pack and it kind of put them all in a corner and they couldn't get work after the 80s a lot of them a lot of them a lot of them some of them did like Robert Downey jr ah Michael J Fox they're all kind of young audit the young stars of the time that overcome the that thing James Spader Demi Moore Tom Cruise they all over overcame this Brat Pack label became larger than the label itself um
00:37:57
Speaker
But yeah, it was all about this negativity in New York art in the New Yorker article about the brat pack on the actress kind of revolted and denounced the name on like interviews throughout the eighties mid eighties. And this is also a change of the tide in pop culture where the rat pack of the old guard like Frank Sinatra. Sammy Davis Jr. um They were the old guard from the 60s, the 70s. The Brat Pack became the newer younger generation that took over Hollywood in every way. They were the box office supremacy every single week with movies like Breakfast Club, all the John Hughes movies. um But even Back to the Future is around this time, it's all made for a teen audience. there all these All these young kids in Hollywood, that were over overcoming um they They're proving there that the money, that they were a money making machine.
00:38:45
Speaker
Um, but yeah, overall, the documentary is not really that good. Um, like I mentioned, it was like a bitch fest the whole entire time. Andrew McCarthy was complaining. I don't like the name. I don't like being called but a brat. I don't like so he's entering interviewing all these people, all these celebrities. And they're all talking in the same way. Like, yeah, we didn't like being but Put in a corner being called a brat like that They felt it derogatory so but it's on hula if you want to watch this hour and a half long If you just want to watch something stupid you can um We're gonna talk about a couple movies ah first one is when you saw in the theater yesterday you had a little experience watching it You did watch it

Review of 'The Bike Riders'

00:39:22
Speaker
though. Yeah, um the bike riders came out yesterday um This movie had been delayed a couple of times Tom Hardy
00:39:29
Speaker
Austin Butler. um I can't remember her name. Who's uh, I can't remember her name. It's uh, I forget her name. The guy from Challengers is in it. The one that um, Mary Zendaya. Yes. Yeah. yeah was there yeah what you What do you what you think of it?
00:39:48
Speaker
I'm pretty indifferent on it. Okay. okay Um, it should have been, I was thinking it was going to be a lot more violent, I guess. And after watching like some of the trailer yeah and like obviously after watching sons of anarchy and they said it was like the good fellows on bikes. Um, it didn't even outside of the language, it probably could have been PG 13. Um, violence wise, there's fucking like two fist fights and somebody gets shot. Um, okay it's just, I've never felt like the entire time I was watching and I was like, there's nothing about it I love and there's nothing about it that I hate. It's just kind of there. um hu So I was pretty disappointed in it overall. Austin Butler is fantastic as always. Tom Hardy's Tom Hardy. Michael Shannon's in it. Norman Reedus is in it. The cast is fantastic. um I think one of my issues with it though was the
00:40:44
Speaker
That's a lot of it's done through the narration of through the wife of Austin Butler and Her accent light it. I know it's like real to like who she is. Well, just her accent was just really fucking annoying It's like a really deep like I guess Minnesota in like the way she talks So it was just like for the entire movie. It was just like very like off-putting because that's next that we don't hear at all over here much at all, right? um It was just very odd like um I don't know, the cash was really good. I just i was hoping for more like violence. There was a couple times where they could have shown a lot more than they did. um Specifically, like they go to like get, someone one somebody in the biker gang gets basically beaten up and almost killed, and they go to the bar this happened at, and they get the guy's names and where they live and everything, and you're like, all right, let's go, revenge scene. Then they burn the bar down. It's never brought up again.
00:41:42
Speaker
And you're like what the fuck like like it's not like good It's not like a Scorsese movie like Goodfellas or casino as far as the violence goes So that may be why I was a little bit disappointed because I really thought it was gonna go there in certain Situations they put you in in the movie um But it never really does um So it's pretty disappointed um I do want to know what you think about it though once it comes out Because, I mean, with the seven people that probably saw it this weekend, it should be out soon. I mean, the best part of the movie is a trailer we're going to talk to in a little bit. Yeah, we'll talk about that in the news. Yeah. So, yeah, I'm kind of glad I didn't watch it because this seems like a movie I would have wanted to watch at home. It was two hours, so it's not like okay it took up too much of my time. So, OK. So we are a month away from Deadpool and Wolverine.
00:42:36
Speaker
We're a month away from Comic Con. Next month is crazy for this podcast. It's probably the podcast I've been looking forward to. We're going to be doing a State of the Union that week that is going to talk about all dcd DC and Marvel news that has come out of Comic Con. So stay stay tuned and look forward to that. But we are on a road to Deadpool and Wolverine, and we are on a stop to Black Panther Wakanda Forever.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Recap

00:43:00
Speaker
Now, out of all the movies of Phase 4, Spider-man far from no way home in this movie are my top two favorites of that whole entire run Shang-Chi is number three um This movie we there's a lot of stuff that had problems with Not the movie itself, but behind the scenes now the big thing was Chadwick Boseman. He died in 2020 and
00:43:25
Speaker
The movie had already been written, and they had to rewrite the whole entire thing without the main star. This is a follow-up to a huge, successful, probably the most culturally successful Marvel movie ever so far. um It brought in the whole culture. We still go around saying Wakanda forever. I mean, it's it's huge in the culture. So not having the main star of that movie, had they had to do a pivot. And they were also debuting probably the biggest character that had not shown up on screen ever so far in Namor. We'll get into that in a minute. This movie came out in November 11th, 2022. 30th movie in the MCU. The final film of Phase 4.
00:44:09
Speaker
um Directed by Ryan Cooliger, who came back again, most of the original cast from the first Black Panther returned. Latita Wright and Angela Bassett taking the reins as the leads, as Sherry and Ramonda. Lapita Nolongo, Danny from um The Walking Dead, Winston Duke, Martin Freeman as Agent Everett Ross, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the CIA Chief, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. um And trevor no Trevor Noah was a voice of Wakandan AI, Griot.
00:44:39
Speaker
um So Chadwick Boseman died, so the very beginning of the movie movie depicted his death scene in the funeral in the MCU canon. As well as the whole entire thing was showing an overall farewell and fitting send-off to Chadwick pretty much. um They used graffiti, art, and portraits throughout the funeral ceremony showing his his face. um But the movie tells the story of overcoming grief because Sherry has lost her brother. Um, also showing Wakanda in a post revealed to the outside world. Um, the UN is an honest back trying to share, telling if it needs to share its technological advancements to the world and not hold it for itself. Um, including the commodity, the exclusive commodity that they have of vibranium. Um, kind of this is the retelling of a lot of origin stories, including the, even the Black Panther origin, but this time through Shuri's eyes.
00:45:32
Speaker
um This is the MCU debut of Namor. Namor is one of the very first Marvel characters. Him in the very and the first um Human Torch were some of the two Marvel characters created in the 30s that were brought in later on when Marvel Comics took took form in the 1960s with Stan Lee. Namor the Submariner um He was the leader of Atlantis in the comic books. In this, they changed that a lot to make it more in line with 16th century origins of Mayan historical roots even further back. um They brought in a lot of maritime myths with sirens. um and this is kind of And they brought their MCU version of Atlantis through a telekin.
00:46:17
Speaker
which is an Aztec ah in mythology for a city that is also in the ocean where all the sailors went to die and maritime things went to die. um But they named him Namor, a Spanish conquistador came and named him Namor, meaning a child with no love because he slaughtered an entire village of conquistadors off of the Yucatan. And he had no love for fur for what they used to do to enslave. He hated that. um
00:46:48
Speaker
They brought in a new and a new actor to play Namor Tanuk Horetta who has since been cancelled as well. um So we're not sure who if if and when he'll be back to the MCU. They also debuted Riri Williams as Ironheart. um played by Dominique Thorne. um Since Iron Man died in an endgame, this is their way of bringing an Iron Man-like character back into the MCU. They showed her m MIT roots in Boston and Cambridge. um So yeah, um this is the first MCU mention of a mutation since Disney's acquisition of the Fox Properties um and the X-Men. They say that Namor had a mutation of some kind,
00:47:31
Speaker
By eating this herb that was grown out of what does what they say is vibranium under the ocean in the Yucatan. And this created this mutation in his body where he grows wings off of his ankles, he was born like that. um And yeah. That's kind of the first mention of that. Shuri's task throughout the movies is to genetically recreate the heart-shaped herb, um which gives the user the superpowers, the mantle of the Black Panther. In the first movie, that was destroyed. The whole entire crop of those herbs was destroyed by Killmonger.
00:48:03
Speaker
um But we also saw the death of her mother, Romanda. Namor did that it kind of as a ah rage of war, to bring on war with Wakanda and Namor's clan. So throughout this whole entire thing, it's Shuri trying to find her way. She ends up making this herb, this heart-shaped herb, genetically recreating it. And she has a, when you when you take that herb, you kind of have this like psychedelic fail going into this universe where all the ancestors were and You're supposed to meet an ancestor and the one ancestor that she ends up meeting is Michael B. Jordan's character of Killmonger She's looking for her brother. She's looking for her mother, but she ends up meeting Killmonger who?
00:48:49
Speaker
This whole thing was revenge taking over um So that was ah kind of like an inner battle with her towards the end of the movie where she was she prevails Kind of and she ends up winning the battle with with her no more nay more at the end um and Towards the end, we see Winston Duke's Mabaku challenges for the throne. Sure, he kind of releases the throne. um Still takes the Black Panther mantel, so I don't know. They're kind of setting up a sequel to this. We'll have to wait and see. um
00:49:20
Speaker
We also see Namora, who is one of Namora's cousins, um disagreeing with the alliance that the end at the end of the movie that he ends up making with Wakanda, setting up a comic book story arc later on between the two of them and and their clan. um But we see a mid-credit twist. Now we don't have T'Challa anymore, so they have to have a new way of bringing in that. So they make it so T'Challa had a secret son, hidden in Haiti with the Kia, setting up a new origin rebirth to the true heir of the throne, a new Black Panther later on, maybe in the younger Avengers in the distant future, who knows.
00:49:58
Speaker
Um, also setting up a war with Wakanda and it's in their, but it's vibranium. The whole entire world wants this precious metal. They want something to, that can, I mean, it's just war. That's what they do. Everybody's looking for something like this for war, for their, for their, for their weapons, for machines, what have you. Um, rumors of this continuing in Thunderbolts, of course. We've talked about that before. Um, budget for this movie, $200, $250 million. dollars um Made $859 million dollars worldwide, 457 of that in the United States. 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, a little bit less than the first movie. Audience score still 94%, mainly I think this movie was just a fitting send off for Chadwick Boseman after he died so suddenly with no warning and people wanted to see and see it retrospective to him and I think they did a great job with Ryan Coogler's team to do this. so
00:50:51
Speaker
Um, so yeah, this is the last movie of phase four the first four movie of phase five is Ant-Man and the Wasp. Quantum Mania. a lot of people A lot of people think that's the worst movie so far in these two phases. They may be right. We'll well be the judge of that. um We have about five weeks left. We have three MCU movies and we're also going to throw in Deadpool 1 and 2 in there too. because We want to talk about those going into Deadpool and Wolverine.
00:51:22
Speaker
Um, so the next few weeks we're gonna pick a movie every week and do I may tackle quantum media next week Just to get it out of the way because we also have guardians after that we have and we have the marvels Which is another bad movie. So and then Deadpool one and two are great and I haven't seen him in a while So I can't wait to talk about him We also mentioned talking about maybe a couple of great X-Men movies, Logan, and maybe Days of Future Past. Maybe we can go back to X2. I want to see it for you every time. Yeah, we don't have a lot of time. I just got my new schedule and I don't like it. Yeah, we can talk about that. I know you've seen Logan a bunch of times, so we'll definitely talk about Logan.
00:52:01
Speaker
um And you've seen the black-and-white version of Logan too, right? So we can talk all about that. We'll talk all about that too. I actually want to watch Logan because you gave me the 4k and I have a watch on 4k disk. Oh, yeah, that'll look great. That'll look great. So yeah, we'll talk ah we'll talk about that in the upcoming weeks. So we got one month one month away. So we can't wait for that. With that being said, let's get into the news.

Nosferatu Trailer Buzz

00:52:26
Speaker
And it's not a newsletter, not a trailer roundup.
00:52:30
Speaker
um Couple of trailers, the first one is called The Beast Within, starring Kit Harington. All about a werewolf, kind of a werewolf movie, comes out July 26th. I sent this to you on Instagram, I think, I don't know if you watched it or not, but looks great. um K Harrington, you don't see him in a lot of stuff. I think the last thing we saw him in was Eternals. I mean, it was kind of underused in that, so... Yeah, he's playing this character who's in the woods. This is almost like a period piece, and he turns into a werewolf. So, yeah, what can you expect from a movie like that? Another monster movie. Noesferatu. This is the trailer you talked about last night, seeing in the theater. Which, I had no idea that it was going to catch this movie. No one did. It's funny, though. No one did.
00:53:12
Speaker
So, um I watched this, I listened to and watched this other podcast, Spitball Media, it's got Kevin Castle's brother on there, John Draper, and he went to the movie because he knew this preview was going to be attached to it. um but they're like on vacations they went to like one of those like artsy type deals like where like they bring you food and drink something like that like you have your own table and so it was because there's an independent movie theater they didn't have the Nosferatu trailer ah suck so he was pissed so in the chat last night he asked me if I had seen it if it was in color or black and white or whatever and I'd say it was in color but it does have this like cool little like blue filter that's like so it's not like fully black and white or fully color when Nosferatu shows up
00:53:54
Speaker
um but the trailer looks very good. Eggers is a very interesting filmmaker. you said that like before He's got three movies and it's like people either love them or hate them. um I'm very much on the fence about him but I'm looking forward to this because this is my type of story. um He loves like classic horror stuff like that. So this is one I'm really looking forward to. um Because as far as being a director goes, he's a very good director. It's just the stories he chooses aren't exactly for the masses. so um But I'm looking forward to this movie a lot. I think it comes out in like six months.
00:54:31
Speaker
Yeah, it comes out on Christmas Day. Yeah, I saw the cam footage because the cam has leaked online. It does look great from what I saw, but I can't wait to see the actual HD version of it. There hasn't been a trailer. I love this whole thing. If you remember, Monsters, Inc. debuted a Star Wars trailer exclusive to the movie where you can only see it in theaters. I think it was episode two, maybe. And episode one was before I forget which one episode one was before, but there's like stories of people going, seeing the trailer, and then just leaving before the movie. And leaving. That was Monsters, Inc. too. That was the whole thing with Monsters, Inc. I remember that, because I actually went to see Monsters, Inc. to see that trailer. I actually liked Monsters, Inc. so I watched it. And that was, of course, before YouTube and everything. Yeah, that was before the theater, yeah. That was about the trailers matter before movies.
00:55:20
Speaker
It's actually cool, I like this theater exclusive stuff, I hope they do it more. Yeah, me too. What was the trailer we just saw recently that was kind of exclusive to theater? It was the last movie we saw. It may have been Mad Max, there was something there that we hadn't seen online yet and it debuted like the next day, I can't remember what it was. And I think the Terminator um four trailer was attached to the Dark Knight. You had to see the Dark Knight to see the Terminator Salvation trailer, I believe. Because Christian old of course was. Very old school, we don't see that much anymore, so I'm glad they started doing that again. um Debut it like the next Monday. Give us some time in the theater. I mean, they need they need people in the theater, so it makes sense. um And the final trailer was The Penguin, on coming out on Max in September. ah Matt Reeves all all on this, Colin Farrell.
00:56:10
Speaker
It does look great, and I've been badmouthing this whole movie series with Matt Reeves, but this looks great. This looks a lot like all those noir movies from the 70s, and a lot of those gangster movies from the 70s, too, like Godfather. It looks great. Yeah, I can't wait to see this. I'm not a huge fan of the first movie like you know. It's my favorite Batman movie. It's not even close. I know. I like Colin Farrell. The Dark Knight's my favorite Batman movie this movie made me feel like I was reading a Batman comic between the inner dialogue and all that stuff That's why I like it so much how slowly paced it was just like the comics are Obviously the Dark Knight Probably the better film and probably even Batman begins to but I do love them. I do love the Batman. Yep
00:56:57
Speaker
ah That comes out in September. So let's get into the news. Inside Out 2 won a huge box office weekend last week. 155 million dollars, making it the biggest opening weekend of this year so far, and picks our second bit best ever. I think toys, one of the toy stories are frozen. That's kind of insane. That was the movie that all like I got to the theater and um the fire alarm went off. So there was like, everyone had to leave the theater and there, it literally looked like an entire school was there. Like fucking yeah fifth graders, like everywhere. That's that's crazy. Um, but yeah, that was 155 million bad boys still made hundred made 33 million for the second week Kingdom of the p plenty apes is third for five million. So big drop-off between the two two and three um Rest in peace to Donald so Sutherland. Um, yeah, his son ah His son, of course was in 24, but he's in a lot of movies, too um I know him from
00:57:56
Speaker
The Hunger Games movies he played ah he played the bad guy in those movies. I'm from Backdraft the fire fire movie back in the day. He was one of the old fire juice. Okay? Yeah roger of stuff in the 80s, but yeah, yeah, he did he did a recipe to him great actor um rest in peace to Taylor Willie and Known for Hawaii Five-O, Magnum PI, but he also was in a great comedy that came out about 15 years ago called For Getting Sarah Marshall. Yep, that's where I know him from. Yep, he was the bartender on the beach in that movie. Very funny, um very funny movie. He was 56 years old, big old sumo wrestler, so he's a big guy, probably died of heart condition, I'm sure. Something had to do with his weight, so rest in peace to him.
00:58:43
Speaker
um Let's get into the rest of the news. um Right before the debut of of House of Dragon next week, the Empire state State Building, they put this big inflatable dragon on the very top of the pyre of the Empire State state Building. Very cool, the pictures of it. Probably don't do it justice, but very cool. um And speaking of Game of Thrones, now I know you know a little bit more about all these spin-offs and all this shit happening in HBO. um But they announced on the Game of Thrones official Instagram and Facebook page that they started filming a show in production now, A Night of the Seven Kingdoms. A new story set. Do you know where this is set in the timeline? Okay. This is the Dunk and Egg um story. Okay. So this would be Aemon from um The Wall.
00:59:36
Speaker
Okay. Okay. That gave up the kingship. This would be about his brother. Okay. Okay. And Sir Duncan the tall was like his, his night. So it's going to be over looking at him. Who's the main character we're looking at? Okay. So that's who we're looking at. It'd be, it'd be Eamon's brother. Okay. younger brother or older but yeah it'd be around that time so it'd be about a hundred years uh maybe like 90 years before a game of thrones so it'd be kind of like in that sweet spot between house the dragon and game of thrones okay i believe so just started filming this week so we will be seeing that
01:00:12
Speaker
ah Let's get into some tech news um We talked about the vision Pro how it's outpriced for for for us for the regular consumer 300 thirty five hundred dollars for one of these units is ridiculous for anyone that's not on a west Nobody's buying them So apples halting production on the second version of this and they're going to be going on aiming to a cheaper version Headset coming out next year um Makes perfect sense. I kinda said this was gonna happen. um Nobody's gonna buy a $3,500 item. It's a cool technology, I wanna see it, but I'm not gonna pay that much for it. i'd write I wouldn't even pay $2,000 for something like this. I think the Oculus is less than $12,000. I don't even know what they are. Yeah, I think so. Yeah, but yeah I mean, it's it's not worth it. You can buy a computer for cheap, for you can buy two or three computers for that price. Yeah, I mean, VCRs were like two grand when they dropp when they first came out and then yeah nobody was buying those, they eventually lowered the price. It's not the thing is it's not new technology like these here. Yeah, it's just another technology that Apple was late to um But yeah, we'll we'll talk about that more later down the line AT&T has announced. I don't know where you stand on your unlimited plan That's why I'm bringing this up on the announced on all the older unlimited plans that they're gonna be including a $20 monthly increase up to up to $20. I think $10
01:01:32
Speaker
OK Right. Yeah. I know a lot of people still have that because the unlimited plans back in the day were a pretty good deal. Yeah, they were. Yeah. But now they've so much technology has come out. Plus you get free HBO Max. Wi-Fi is everywhere. so And 5G and five g all that stuff is all included yeah now. So a lot of people have already upgraded. but But anybody who has that old plan, you are going to be seeing an increase in your bill every month. um Another thing that came out today, Amazon's AI powered Alexa.
01:02:18
Speaker
Now, we talked all of about last week about Siri, how they're bringing in um AI. Alexa is going to be bringing in the same thing. However, their AI, they're thinking of charging up to five to ten dollars monthly, a subscription to a be able to use their AI.

Amazon's AI Subscription Service

01:02:34
Speaker
very first time anybody's ever talked about something like that, a subscription service for AI. Would you pay extra for already having Amazon Prime? Would you pay another five to $10 a month to be able to use it for an AI that could pretty much do anything and listen to everything and communicate with you? No, I wouldn't. Absolutely not. I think it's a bad business plan, bad bad business model.
01:02:56
Speaker
I'm trying to fuck with the consumer even more. And I think they're gonna have a lot of backlash from that. I don't trust those things as it is. Right. Why would you pay? You might as well change the name to Skynet already. Yeah, I know, right? U.S. Surgeon General this week proposed social media platforms have tobacco-like warning labels. for adolescents because of the mental health health harm that they can cause, and the significant mental health harm. um They are kind of right in some of this stuff, especially for the younger kids. A lot of bullying can happen online. A lot of addictions being on the screen all the time. I know I'm addicted to being on the screen sometimes, I find myself so. Understandably so. um I'm not sure about the whole morning label thing, but it works for cigarettes kind of. so Yeah, one of the kids in my in my ah Twitter chat is taking a two month break from it just because um especially if you're in comic book Twitter right now, it's fucking toxic as hell. It is involved in any fandom on Twitter. and So the kids taking like a month or two off, I think for the summer. um It's a good idea to do that every every so we'll often. Just take a break, maybe delete Twitter for a week if you have to. But yeah.
01:04:09
Speaker
I don't go on Twitter that often. I do go on Facebook, which is just as bad, but I do that for the podcast mostly. I literally just go on Twitter to check my group chats that I'm in like five of like, yeah and like all occasionally posting the timeline, especially after the Celtics won the championship. I saw this news today and I was like, wow, why are we never on? Like some of this stuff you are, I know you you've you've done some of this stuff, but they had this thing called Jet Flix. I'm not sure it must have been the early 2000s, where they had 183,000 TV episodes at one time and lined up larger than the combined catalogs of Netflix, Hulu, Voodoo, and Amazon Prime. Five men were convicted in operating this massive illegal streaming service.
01:04:56
Speaker
that had content that rivaled any of these other streaming services. They so they were charging $10 a month to have access to this service. um They ended up getting convicted. One of the guys in this five the five guys that got convicted spun off, had his own streaming service with the same amount of content and more. ended up upcharging to $20 a month for a service where you had unlimited television shows, movies, everything you can think of. I think I was part of that
01:05:28
Speaker
um I signed up yourself don't implicate yourself Kevin But yeah, but this is huge on the internet and I wish I was a part of it I never got into that like people like always like side loaded their fire sticks and stuff like that. Yeah Sports and stuff like that or Cody And then so they're like charging some are like $2 a month summer like 13 or something. I don't know Yeah, but yeah Because if you don't have a good enough internet, it sucks. right so Right. But yeah, the catalog on these are ridiculous. and it's they I guess they would go on torrents, buy all this stuff, that's how they got caught, um and put it on their own a personal server. And then they ended up, the ah the ah the Department of Justice ended up finding them and went right after them.
01:06:16
Speaker
Ugh, the times of Napster, the times of LimeWire, cause uh, so what, we got cancer on our computers. We had all of our stuff for free. Those are bad for the computers. Got some news on some new Nintendo games. There was a Nintendo thing that happened this week where they announced a brand new RPG Mario game with Luigi called Mario and Luigi Brothership. The animation looks kind of weird and different. um Very shadow-like with Mario and Luigi, almost anime-like, you would think. um Coming out on November 7th, they also announced Marvel vs. Capcom, all of the arcade games.
01:06:57
Speaker
coming from the very first time, all in a collection of seven of them. Coming out on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, not coming out for the Xbox, um coming out later this year. And it's going to include all those classic arcades when you are going to the pizza restaurant or anywhere and they had those arcade games that you can play with the quarters in. um But this was shocking to a lot of people. um The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, coming out on September 26th of this year, yep looks like in the style of the remastered version of Link's Awakening that came out on the Switch. But the difference between yeah the the difference between this game is you can play as Zelda for the very, very, very first time ever.
01:07:40
Speaker
in the whole entire franchise that's named after her so yeah this is kind of unique and cool um it looks in that like 3d 2d world like links awakening on the remastered version on the nintendo switch so um very cool about time they did something like that i guess um we got our very first look at the lord of the rings of war of the rahim ah Coming out on November 13th, this is an animated anime-like style Lord of the Rings story. I'm not sure exactly in the timeline. I think this is before the Lord of the Rings, like in between Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. I'm not really sure.
01:08:14
Speaker
But um yeah, the animation in style looks kind of cool. Anime anime influence, you can tell. um We talked about Power Rangers in the past and how Netflix had this deal with them. Well, reportedly, they're no no longer moving forward with this big, huge rebooted series that they were planning on doing on Netflix. ah Netflix has kind of canceled that. um I think probably what happened Is that movie that 30th anniversary movie came out and nobody liked it nobody watched it because it was horrible so probably they probably just turned it down if I were to guess but um Love Power Rangers back in the day if you go back and watch it now definitely doesn't hold up, but Nostalgia wise was awesome. Um speaking of nostalgia pimp my ride
01:09:01
Speaker
Starting is back in the early 2000s coming back or revival on Netflix of all places Bringing back bringing in Chris red who was on SNL to host at this time. I'm gonna be bringing in all these cars ah Turning them into these big huge television and enhanced ah ah vehicles with all these gadgets and gizmos um Yeah, I don't know it's gonna be on Netflix though. It's announced this week coming out on July 21st 24th. So next month um
01:09:31
Speaker
That's gonna have eight 40-minute episodes. So yeah, maybe I'll watch some of that I actually like to pivot my ride even though he found out later on that all this shit was fake, but right. Yeah Um speaking of Dexter earlier Patrick Dempsey has joined the cast of the the original sin prequel series gonna be the captain of the Miami and my Miami had Captain Matthews Yep. He's the one that Harry hit has a long, decades-long relationship with ah Christian Slater's character, Harry. So, yeah. I'm excited about this only because I'm watching the series now. The casting is kind of bad, but... I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm not yet big on the casting, even though i I love Christian Slater, but I'm just like, I don't know. Right. I don't know. Right. So...
01:10:20
Speaker
Yeah, we'll play that by ear. Also announced this week by one of the executives at Sony that Uncharted 2 with Tom Holland is in the works. Uncharted 1, not that good of a movie. Tom Holland is a known commodity for them, so he makes the money. No matter how bad the movie is, it was this. He had that movie with Daisy Riddley. Yeah, whatever her name is from Star Wars movie. Yeah, that movie sucked. Yeah, I heard that was bad too. But yeah spider-man has this franchise you should stick with it um Jordan Peele announced that his next movie is coming out in 2026 right around Halloween um Not sure what else about he just announced it this week um Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are gonna start a new crime thriller called rip Just announced that this week other than that no other information
01:11:12
Speaker
Um, Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis has found a U.S. release date, um, in IMAX and regular theaters on September 27th, so just a couple months away. Um, uh, yeah, I'm not really hyped about this movie. The trailers are not doing it justice. I think it could be one of the biggest box office failures of all time because I don't think— Megalopolis? it could be because he put a lot of money into it. But then again it's his own money so if it bombs it's not gonna kill a studio or anything like that. yeah He's all for he's all for the art rather than the money so it's kind of like a passion to him. um
01:11:48
Speaker
i so I put this picture in there and also, I mean, Billy Zane as fucking Marlon Brando. I can't wait for this movie. Me too. A little bit little bit more information. It's all about the time, around that time of super when they filmed the very first Superman biopic. So it's very very cool They're gonna be talking about Brando. There's some cool Brando stories surrounding Superman so like that so and I'm looking for tired look just like him the whole entire thing of him going to the Oscars with the Indian the Native American and he refused to do the speech and he and he had her I can't remember exactly what she said, but it was something about pro Indian rights or something or He refused to go to the Oscars and sent her instead to this league. Yes, that's what it was, yeah. That's all around this time too, so I'm sure that'll be depicted. But yeah, and of course he played Superman's father, Jor-El, and Superman, the first one.
01:12:43
Speaker
yeah wait um Get into the DC News of the Week. We see some very first shots of the Daily Planet that they're currently filming right now. um looks today to Today we saw the globe in front of the building. um so they're They're getting ready to do some major scenes out front there this weekend. They filmed there today. I saw a pick actually right before you started where they just had a giant truck and like this covered up tunnel and like for like the crew to like be in the truck and then walk into the tunnel so they're not letting fucking anything out right into the open. Besides this they had no choice that's why they had to do it but I'm very excited we're about a year away from that.
01:13:21
Speaker
um Daredevil star Vincent D'Onofrio says Kingpin rights are caught between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. um Sony has a rights to Spider-Man villains. um He is technically a Spider-Man villain, but Marvel has a rights to Marvel villains. He's technically a Daredevil villain. So yes the rights are kind of mixed with him. It's one of the characters that have those weird back and forth. I think of him as Deathstroke, where like all these all these superheroes have like a rogues gallery of villains. Deathstroke and Kingpin have a ah rogues gallery of of good guys. like they' yeah They're bad guys, but they're not specific to one single character. yeah um People associate Deathstroke mostly with Batman. People associate
01:14:07
Speaker
Kingpin mostly with I guess spider-man or daredevil either one either one Yeah, it's a slippery slope in a tricky situation there in if you're are a fan of the animated series in the 90s I'm sure kingpin with a big kid to me he's always been Yeah, spider-man and then when he was on a daredevil show then yeah all of a sudden like as I was an adult He was a daredevil villain to me. Yeah,

Marvel's Official Podcast Impact

01:14:29
Speaker
you're right. It's kind of mixed But we all want to see Vincent and offer you and Tom Holland oh yeah together. So yes, um I don't think this this kind of this kind of news I don't i take it take it with I think it's just because they created Anthony Mackie's version of Falcon um probably the Russo brothers are added into the produce producing credits of Captain America Brave New World. A lot of people are making something of this but don't because it's just that you see.
01:14:57
Speaker
You see you see that all the time with Snyder right Snyder was on Aquaman 2 producing credit, right? He had no part of it at all. It just created the character in that movie universe So that's why so dad that became news this week, but don't believe anything. Yeah um Number one Marvel step off our toes. We are in the posk podcast game They have their official Marvel podcast this week started June 26 Kevin Feige will be one of the guests they're gonna be Everybody does a Marvel podcast. We kind of do a half-assed Marvel podcast with everything else too, so um Yeah another and and just Kevin Feige just step off um But yeah, they're gonna have a lot of exclusive surprises. They're gonna talk comics games films TV shows everything Marvel so it's

Marvel Movie Speculations

01:15:46
Speaker
kind of cool. They have an exclusive podcast um I Bet you the week of comic-con that'll be a good thing to listen to so we'll keep that in our podcast feed and We saw some new pictures from ah Total Film magazine of Deadpool, Wolverine, Dogpool. We see a picture of
01:16:04
Speaker
Deadpool and Wolverine in the void with all these villains in the background um a lot of people speculating that one of those villains is Sticky fingers as blade. You remember the sticky. There was a sticky fingers that did blade in the early 2000s the rapper. Yeah. Yeah um Yeah, they're speculating that he's in the background of this image and it's not Wesley slight Snipes blade that's gonna be in this movie and The other way see a couple weeks left a couple weeks left all the rumors will be either proven or disproven We'll get to that in a month Let's get into the blade of all um First of all the movie's still happening supposedly um The reboot was developed as a period piece 1920s period piece has since been changed to a modern-day story of Blade and
01:16:54
Speaker
It makes me think that Ryan Coogler actually did pitch a Blade movie because now he's doing that vampire movie with Michael B. Jordan that takes place in the 20s or 30s. Yeah, that may be why they they pivoted. um Maya Goth came out today still reportedly attached to play Lilith, I believe. um ye So yeah, we're we're a month away. All of this Marvel news that we always talk about, or I always talk about every week, we're going to have confirmation on on the timeline in a month from now. So let's hold off on this stuff. Everybody calm the fuck down. We'll get to it later.
01:17:30
Speaker
um And finally, finally in news.

Spaceballs 2 Development

01:17:33
Speaker
A lot of people are kind of mixed about this, but not me.
01:17:45
Speaker
Spaceballs. Spaceballs 2, the search for more money. A sequel of 30 years. Maybe too late. In development in Amazon Studios, Josh Gad directing it, attached this art no Attach the Star, um producing it with Mel Brooks alongside him. yeah Josh Greenbaum will direct it. ah Screenplay has already been written. um This is definitely in development. A lot of people are pissed about it. Rightfully so.
01:18:20
Speaker
um John Candy's not around. Rick Moranis has retired, so how the hell are they gonna tell a Spaceball sequel story without those two guys? Especially Rick Moranis, as dark Dark Helmet. Um, I'm all for it. I would have been all for 28 years ago. I think so. They have never done the prequels. It would be cool if they did the prequels in the sequels. um If Mel brook Brooks is in charge, I hope they do a great job because Spaceballs to me is one of the best spoof movies. I know you're not a huge fan of the spoofs, but Spaceballs is one of my favorite spoof movies ever. um One of my favorite Mel books Brooks movies ever. From the cast, to the story, to the... I watched Spaceballs before I watched Star Wars. That's how much I love this movie.
01:19:07
Speaker
Um, they even brought in John Hurt to reprise his role as the guy who has the alien and the alien come out of his chest. They actually brought him back for spaceballs, for the alien to come out of his chat's chest and start dancing to hello my baby, hello my darling, hello hello my ragtime gal. That's how awesome this movie, the first movie is. Not sure if we need a sequel right now, however, I'm excited. And I'm all excited. I'm all for this. um we can We've actually been disappointed with a lot of re reboots and sequels in the in the in the current time.

Discussion on Upcoming Sequels

01:19:40
Speaker
We've got a huge one coming out in a couple weeks. We have Axl F, Beverly Hills Caught 4 coming out. I don't know what to think about that. I do like the first one. I like the second one kinda. Third one I don't like. Second one's very good also. Third one's trash.
01:19:57
Speaker
Yeah, but we will yeah, we'll ah we'll keep an eye on this baseball sequel and and see who else is gonna be joining that cast um I don't know who the hell fuck Josh Gad could be playing but um God if he he plays like a Ray Skywalker like character like a mob half man half dog I don't know who the hell he could be playing but I um Bill Pullman's still alive. Is it Bill Pullman? was Yeah, Bill Pullman's still alive. so um is it bill po Who's the one that died? Bill Paxton died. Bill Paxton died. Bill Pullman's still alive, yeah. He played the president in the business day. He was the lead of the first movie, so if they don't bring him back, it's kind of a loss on them. but Yeah, he's still with us.
01:20:41
Speaker
So that's it for news.

Preview of Upcoming Content

That's why I know I'm not going to get to that 90s show, because if The Bear comes out, that's why I'm going to watch.

I'm not telling the truth I know, you know, they just don't have any clue It's the deception, you learn how to bend You're worse than the visions, they can psych you out in the end
