Tune in.
00:03:04
Speaker
And so what is body awareness?
00:03:06
Speaker
What is food awareness?
00:03:07
Speaker
What is food awareness?
00:03:09
Speaker
Let me give you a quick synopsis.
00:03:12
Speaker
All right.
00:03:13
Speaker
Are you aware of your body when you eat something that's unhealthy?
00:03:18
Speaker
You even, your body tense up, you think about it, or something happens within you when you eat something that's unhealthy.
00:03:29
Speaker
But it's only unhealthy because your relationship with the thing you want to eat, i.e.
00:03:33
Speaker
the food.
00:03:35
Speaker
Nothing is unhealthy, it's just your relationship is unhealthy or...
00:03:39
Speaker
your relationship is bad with the food you want to eat, right?
00:03:42
Speaker
Body, you know, our body is everything.
00:03:45
Speaker
Our body loves us.
00:03:46
Speaker
Our body is what gives us the drive, the energy, and it shows up for us every day, no matter what condition we're in.
00:03:54
Speaker
We just got to be aware of it to supply it, to give it, to nourish it, and give it everything it needs to be at the optimal health, to be fulfilled, to feel great.
00:04:06
Speaker
But I think in these times of life, in most of life, I think people's biggest struggles within their identity, outside of the material realm of like, you know, money, success, fame, fortune is their body.
00:04:21
Speaker
Right.
00:04:22
Speaker
And in America, at least, you know, 65 to 70 percent.
00:04:25
Speaker
people are obese, like food, you know, and I also believe in America, we just eat so much food because you can go to a restaurant and get a $15 salad and it's like for a family.
00:04:37
Speaker
It's like we over consume.
00:04:39
Speaker
I feel like we live in a,
00:04:42
Speaker
overly consumption place in the United States.
00:04:45
Speaker
So we eat too much.
00:04:47
Speaker
We don't need as much as we think.
00:04:48
Speaker
That's why I think fasting is really beneficial.
00:04:52
Speaker
And we should eat for our body type.
00:04:53
Speaker
We should train for our body type, but we should be aware of our relationship with food and our relationship with our body is so important.

Impact of Upbringing on Food Relationships

00:05:02
Speaker
So here are the seven questions I want you to think about, the seven questions I want you to write down, seven pillars to just breathe on, you know, just really analyze and just think.
00:05:15
Speaker
It's really important.
00:05:17
Speaker
I think it'll help you in your body, your food, your relationship with both.
00:05:22
Speaker
So the first question is, first pillar, what's your relationship with food, right?
00:05:28
Speaker
What's your relationship with food?
00:05:32
Speaker
Interesting, right?
00:05:34
Speaker
Next, what's your relationship with your body?
00:05:38
Speaker
What is your relationship with your body?
00:05:40
Speaker
Do you know?
00:05:40
Speaker
I'm pretty sure you know if you think about it.
00:05:43
Speaker
Who taught you about food is the next pillar.
00:05:47
Speaker
Then after that, who taught you about your body?
00:05:50
Speaker
Who's teaching us about our bodies?
00:05:53
Speaker
Then the next one is who defines you and why?
00:05:58
Speaker
Who defines your body, how you look, who you are?
00:06:01
Speaker
Where does that come from?
00:06:02
Speaker
And why?
00:06:03
Speaker
And then, you know, the last two is does food have power over you and how to enjoy your body and food in a healthy way?
00:06:13
Speaker
Right.
00:06:13
Speaker
So those are the seven questions, seven pillars.
00:06:16
Speaker
I'm going to break each down, spend a little bit of time on each.
00:06:19
Speaker
But like I said, I was inspired by my masterclass yesterday.
00:06:23
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:25
Speaker
on the House of Manifestations platform community.
00:06:28
Speaker
It's so great.
00:06:29
Speaker
If you want to join the community, I'll put something here in the show notes where you can join.
00:06:34
Speaker
But anyway, let's get into it.
00:06:36
Speaker
What is your relationship with food?
00:06:38
Speaker
So what am I asking in this moment?
00:06:41
Speaker
What I'm asking is when it comes to food, what's your relationship?
00:06:45
Speaker
Like, is it healthy?
00:06:46
Speaker
Is it good?
00:06:48
Speaker
Is it positive?
00:06:49
Speaker
Is it negative?
00:06:49
Speaker
Is it overwhelming?
00:06:51
Speaker
And, you know, yesterday speaking, I had some people say, you know, their relationship with food is kind of mixed emotions.
00:07:01
Speaker
Food represents trauma and fear for them.
00:07:03
Speaker
There was a guy who was speaking, I don't say his name, and he said growing up.
00:07:09
Speaker
If I'm not mistaken, I recall his parents made him eat his food.
00:07:13
Speaker
And if he didn't eat his food, he got in trouble and he would get a beating.
00:07:17
Speaker
It was like torture.
00:07:19
Speaker
Made him eat all his food.
00:07:20
Speaker
You can't leave no food on the plate.
00:07:22
Speaker
You know we come from that background where you're so fortunate, you're so blessed in other countries, they don't have as much food and you're wasting it.
00:07:30
Speaker
So him and another individual both said food has some type of trauma or resistance around it because
00:07:38
Speaker
They had to eat all their food or else.
00:07:39
Speaker
It was like they were in trouble.
00:07:41
Speaker
It was dangerous.
00:07:41
Speaker
So one person would say that they would go and sneak like treats and stuff in their room and eat them by themselves or clothes because food just had this such this negative connotation because of their parents.
00:07:54
Speaker
Right.
00:07:55
Speaker
So their relationship with food wasn't really good.
00:07:59
Speaker
And then I think another person was talking about food was more rewarding.
00:08:03
Speaker
Like you only could eat if you accomplish something.
00:08:05
Speaker
Right.
00:08:06
Speaker
So those are examples of what's your relationship with food.
00:08:09
Speaker
My relationship with food is kind of really great.
00:08:12
Speaker
Right.
00:08:13
Speaker
Meaning.
00:08:14
Speaker
I mean, I was eating something.
00:08:17
Speaker
Excuse me.
00:08:20
Speaker
When I say great, I'm disciplined.
00:08:22
Speaker
Right.
00:08:22
Speaker
I'm fortunate to be very disciplined when it comes to food.
00:08:25
Speaker
However, I am a foodie.
00:08:26
Speaker
I can eat a lot.
00:08:28
Speaker
So I know there's times where because I'm so type A when it comes to my diet and nutrition, I'm eating super clean.
00:08:36
Speaker
I'm not having no sugar.
00:08:38
Speaker
But then I'll fail and just eat a bunch of sugar.
00:08:42
Speaker
So what I'm working on with my relationship with food is allowing myself to have the things that
00:08:50
Speaker
that we claim not so good, right?
00:08:53
Speaker
Is snacks, sugar, whatever, and not judging myself.
00:08:56
Speaker
I think I judge myself.
00:08:57
Speaker
And I think we all judge ourselves based on the food we eat.

Body Image and Societal Influences

00:09:00
Speaker
But if we have a good relationship with food, we probably wouldn't judge ourselves at all because there's some people who eat food and they don't even think about it, right?
00:09:07
Speaker
Because they don't have a bad relationship.
00:09:09
Speaker
It's like, I just have what I want, right?
00:09:12
Speaker
Right.
00:09:13
Speaker
All right, let's get to the next one.
00:09:15
Speaker
What's your relationship with your body?
00:09:17
Speaker
Your relationship with your body.
00:09:19
Speaker
Some of us don't know what our relationship with our body is, right?
00:09:23
Speaker
And most times if our body doesn't look the way we want it to look,
00:09:27
Speaker
I assume we have a negative relationship or we're defining our body and our relationship is not good because it doesn't look like the commercial or Instagram ad or the Instagram trainer or influencer and, you know, or a mom or dad or maybe our spouse verbally abusers growing up about our body like, oh, you're fat or you're overweight or you're too skinny.
00:09:48
Speaker
I remember when I was growing up and there was two things.
00:09:53
Speaker
You would get told you're skinny.
00:09:54
Speaker
You need to put on some weight or my pecs.
00:09:57
Speaker
My chest was too big, so I would never take my shirt off.
00:10:00
Speaker
So I was so insecure about having big pecs at like 14 and I got a big chest.
00:10:04
Speaker
Right.
00:10:05
Speaker
And then as I got older, when I go in the gym, I'll make sure I really, you know, focus on my chest and work out really hard because I didn't want to have man boobs.
00:10:12
Speaker
Right.
00:10:12
Speaker
That was a real thing.
00:10:14
Speaker
So that impacted my thoughts and my relationship with my body.
00:10:18
Speaker
And then I got older and I'm like, oh, my chest, my pecs is fine.
00:10:23
Speaker
I don't mind being skinny as long as I know I'm strong and I'm fit.
00:10:26
Speaker
I get to define that.
00:10:28
Speaker
And so we have to realize what is your relationship with your body?
00:10:33
Speaker
Like you have to realize that.
00:10:34
Speaker
You have to understand that.
00:10:36
Speaker
A young lady yesterday was saying she has a working relationship with her body.
00:10:42
Speaker
And that's just good to know.
00:10:43
Speaker
Like, I don't want you to have a perfect relationship.
00:10:46
Speaker
I don't want any of us to be perfect in food choice.
00:10:48
Speaker
I want you to be a perfect person.
00:10:50
Speaker
I don't want you to be perfect.
00:10:51
Speaker
I want you to be authentic.
00:10:52
Speaker
But we must be aware of our body and food.
00:10:57
Speaker
Where's our relationship?
00:10:58
Speaker
Where do we stand?
00:11:00
Speaker
If we just don't have no answer or no understanding, that's tough.
00:11:04
Speaker
We got to fix that, right?
00:11:05
Speaker
So this is why I'm here talking about this.
00:11:07
Speaker
So
00:11:08
Speaker
What is your relationship with your body?
00:11:10
Speaker
Really sit still and think about it.
00:11:12
Speaker
Is it good?
00:11:12
Speaker
Did you beat yourself up?
00:11:13
Speaker
Did you talk down on yourself?
00:11:16
Speaker
I also was telling, you know, the audience yesterday was that if I had an audition and I had to take my shirt off and I didn't work out before or I felt bloated, I wouldn't go in.
00:11:26
Speaker
Right.
00:11:26
Speaker
I wouldn't do the audition.
00:11:27
Speaker
But I'm like, well, why?
00:11:29
Speaker
Because I had this negative connotation around.
00:11:33
Speaker
having water weight around my abs or being bloated.
00:11:36
Speaker
Great.
00:11:37
Speaker
You want to look great.
00:11:38
Speaker
You want to have your abs refined.
00:11:40
Speaker
But at the end of the day, no one looks like what they post all day long.
00:11:47
Speaker
We don't.
00:11:47
Speaker
It's a highlight reel.
00:11:50
Speaker
I've come to the realization that I love my body.
00:11:53
Speaker
If my abs, if I look a little bloated...
00:11:56
Speaker
I don't care.
00:11:57
Speaker
I'm not trying to be perfect.
00:11:58
Speaker
I'm trying to be my best self in that moment.
00:12:00
Speaker
And you know how some people are like, let's take a photo on this side or let's take a photo on that side.
00:12:05
Speaker
And you're like, why?
00:12:07
Speaker
Both sides, all sides are incredible.
00:12:09
Speaker
What we define on ourselves based on what the world thinks is great or ideal or what's in shape.
00:12:15
Speaker
You don't want to do that.
00:12:15
Speaker
All right.
00:12:16
Speaker
So that's number two.
00:12:18
Speaker
Number three, who taught you about food?

Personal Experiences and Influences on Food and Body

00:12:21
Speaker
Right.
00:12:21
Speaker
Like growing up, I know.
00:12:23
Speaker
Vegetables, I did not like black-eyed peas.
00:12:26
Speaker
But, you know, I know you should eat your vegetables and you should eat your food, but no one taught me about eating healthy.
00:12:31
Speaker
When I was playing basketball in high school, I would have a McChicken and double cheeseburger before my basketball games.
00:12:36
Speaker
Now, here's the thing.
00:12:38
Speaker
Placebo effect, right?
00:12:41
Speaker
I didn't think it was bad, and I didn't think it was good.
00:12:44
Speaker
I just ate the food because I was hungry.
00:12:46
Speaker
And it didn't really impact my game as much.
00:12:48
Speaker
But now that I'm older, I'm like, oh, wow, I was putting like fast food in my body before I worked out, before I played, right?
00:12:55
Speaker
So all I'm saying is, is this.
00:12:58
Speaker
The way you think about food comes from how you were raised.
00:13:01
Speaker
You know, what was told and who taught you something.
00:13:05
Speaker
And, you know, you got to know who taught you about food.
00:13:09
Speaker
Was it grandma?
00:13:10
Speaker
A young lady yesterday was saying, yeah, like in my family, like anytime someone comes over your house, you got to feed them and serve them tea.
00:13:19
Speaker
So if I don't have food in the house to service one, I think I'm doing a disservice.
00:13:24
Speaker
But she grew up that way.
00:13:26
Speaker
That's her paradigm.
00:13:28
Speaker
Is she wrong?
00:13:29
Speaker
No.
00:13:30
Speaker
So, you know, we got to be aware who taught us about food.
00:13:33
Speaker
What is food?
00:13:34
Speaker
What is nutrition?
00:13:35
Speaker
What is health?
00:13:36
Speaker
Because no one in my family talked about eating healthy.
00:13:39
Speaker
I mean, we had fast food, pizza.
00:13:42
Speaker
But yet, you know, I can justify because I play sports.
00:13:46
Speaker
I work out.
00:13:46
Speaker
I can eat what I want.
00:13:47
Speaker
It's not really good to just eat what you want because you work out.
00:13:50
Speaker
We can't justify that.
00:13:51
Speaker
But most people have the ideology.
00:13:53
Speaker
Until we get older and our bodies start feeling different.
00:13:57
Speaker
Cool.
00:13:57
Speaker
So who taught you about food?
00:13:59
Speaker
Note that.
00:14:00
Speaker
Know that.
00:14:00
Speaker
Understand it.
00:14:01
Speaker
And granted, take your time.
00:14:03
Speaker
Marinate on these questions.
00:14:04
Speaker
Don't have the answer right away, but I really want you to write them down.
00:14:07
Speaker
Meditate on it and think about it.
00:14:09
Speaker
This is going to help you in transforming your mind, your body, and having awareness around your body and food.
00:14:16
Speaker
And then the next question, next pillar is who taught you about food?
00:14:20
Speaker
Right?
00:14:21
Speaker
I mean, I'm sorry.
00:14:21
Speaker
I said that before.
00:14:22
Speaker
Who taught you about your body?
00:14:25
Speaker
That's a great question, right?
00:14:26
Speaker
Who taught you about your body?
00:14:28
Speaker
No one really teaches us about our body.
00:14:31
Speaker
Unless we get hurt, we get injured, we go to the doctors, we got to put a cast on, and we know we got to strengthen this muscle and that ligament.
00:14:38
Speaker
But where does that come from?
00:14:42
Speaker
Right?
00:14:42
Speaker
Really think about it.
00:14:43
Speaker
Who taught you about your body?
00:14:44
Speaker
Probably you did because you're the only one that lives in it and you have to learn it, right?
00:14:48
Speaker
I know.
00:14:48
Speaker
I taught myself about my body.
00:14:50
Speaker
I know my body type is mesomorph.
00:14:55
Speaker
I'm more athletic built, so it's easy for me to gain weight and lose weight.
00:14:59
Speaker
I think my blood type is O positive, I think.
00:15:05
Speaker
I think O positive blood type.
00:15:08
Speaker
I know I have the best energy in the morning.
00:15:12
Speaker
I know how to shred weight and be strong and look fit and lean, right?
00:15:17
Speaker
But this is me teaching myself about my body over the years of trial and error.
00:15:23
Speaker
So get untuned with your body.
00:15:25
Speaker
Like, you know your body.
00:15:27
Speaker
Your body keeps the score, right?
00:15:30
Speaker
So who taught you about your body?
00:15:32
Speaker
Maybe no one.
00:15:32
Speaker
Maybe you're still learning your body.
00:15:34
Speaker
Maybe you don't understand your body and how it works.
00:15:36
Speaker
You know, get a trainer, get a physician, ask questions, do some research, go to your DNA.
00:15:42
Speaker
As far as like your ancestors and your mom and your lineage, like what are they known for?
00:15:48
Speaker
What are their habits or their bad ways?
00:15:52
Speaker
Really get to understand your body more.
00:15:55
Speaker
Next question, the next pillar is who defines you and why?
00:15:58
Speaker
This is great because a lot of times unconsciously we define ourselves through the lens of social media, through the lens of mass media, through what the fitness community says our body is.
00:16:11
Speaker
Like, oh, you got to have a six-pack abs.
00:16:12
Speaker
You got to have a big butt if you're a woman or a nice butt.
00:16:16
Speaker
You got to have muscles if you're a guy and all these things.
00:16:21
Speaker
And it's like, oh, that's not ideal for everybody.
00:16:25
Speaker
We have to start loving the body we're in right now.
00:16:28
Speaker
We're trying to be something that we know nothing about.
00:16:31
Speaker
We don't know what meds, drugs, food, we don't know what these people are doing with their bodies.
00:16:36
Speaker
I'm pretty sure they're working out, right?
00:16:38
Speaker
Let's not take that away

External Influences on Body Image

00:16:39
Speaker
if they look healthy and fit.
00:16:42
Speaker
But that shouldn't define you.
00:16:44
Speaker
Maybe your mom or your dad, when you were young, told you you need to work out more or talk down on you.
00:16:51
Speaker
So maybe your definition comes from your parents because you look up to them.
00:16:55
Speaker
Or maybe your father was an athlete and you wanted to be perfect and be like him or your spouse.
00:17:02
Speaker
So be aware when you're defining and you're acknowledging and you're thinking about your body that
00:17:10
Speaker
Think about who's giving you that definition and where are those thoughts and those words coming from?
00:17:15
Speaker
Like, who said you were fat?
00:17:18
Speaker
Who said you were overweight?
00:17:19
Speaker
And what is fat and what is overweight?
00:17:22
Speaker
And yeah, and people are just like, oh, we know what that means.
00:17:24
Speaker
But really, like, think about it.
00:17:27
Speaker
Did you claim that or did somebody else claim it and you took it on as if this is true?
00:17:32
Speaker
We got to be wary and careful of how we label ourselves and judge ourselves.
00:17:39
Speaker
because it can affect our mental health, our physical health, our emotional and spiritual health.
00:17:45
Speaker
So, you know, a lot of ladies on a call yesterday talked about
00:17:50
Speaker
their mom being on a fad diet throughout their whole life.
00:17:53
Speaker
Their mom was always on a diet, always on a diet.
00:17:55
Speaker
So that was their blueprint, right?
00:17:57
Speaker
To be on a diet, right?
00:17:59
Speaker
To always be on a diet, right?
00:18:01
Speaker
So your blueprint, your blueprint is what you see in your environment each and every day.
00:18:04
Speaker
So whatever you see, you're going to become because that's osmosis.
00:18:07
Speaker
You're around it.
00:18:08
Speaker
You don't know better, right?
00:18:10
Speaker
So also be aware of what your parents and the people in your environment are doing or not doing, right?
00:18:17
Speaker
Um,
00:18:19
Speaker
So no, who defines you and why?
00:18:21
Speaker
Then does food have power over you?
00:18:23
Speaker
Now, at times food has power, but most of us when we're emotional, we emotionally eat.
00:18:30
Speaker
When we are in a fight or flight response, you know, usually eating low vibrational foods, that's causing us to gain weight, to be unhealthy, to be more stressed, can lead to depression.
00:18:39
Speaker
Yeah.
00:18:42
Speaker
And also we can overeat when we're happy, right?
00:18:45
Speaker
Like, oh, I just want to eat everything.
00:18:47
Speaker
And a lot of times, like some people said yesterday, they had to eat everything on their plate.
00:18:53
Speaker
So if your body is telling you you don't want no more food, you shouldn't be eating.

Empowering Positive Relationships with Food

00:18:58
Speaker
But because of that's programmed in certain people's subconscious, they feel like if they don't eat, then something bad is going to happen, which is not.
00:19:06
Speaker
But you got to know your body, you know, eat until you're full or just eat enough.
00:19:11
Speaker
Don't overeat.
00:19:12
Speaker
And then last but not least, how to enjoy your body and food in a healthy way.
00:19:16
Speaker
Love your body.
00:19:17
Speaker
Honor your body.
00:19:19
Speaker
Rest your body, right?
00:19:20
Speaker
You know, definitely eat as healthy as you can, but have fun too.
00:19:25
Speaker
Like my favorite dessert is banana pudding.
00:19:27
Speaker
I'm going to have me some banana pudding, right?
00:19:30
Speaker
It's important, people, to enjoy your life, to do everything in moderation, and not to overconsume or overly judge yourself for anything, but just accept yourself, get to understand yourself, know yourself.
00:19:45
Speaker
But you got to be aware of your body.
00:19:46
Speaker
Be aware of your food.
00:19:48
Speaker
And where is all these thoughts and things are coming from?
00:19:50
Speaker
Who programmed you to believe that?
00:19:53
Speaker
Sugar is bad.
00:19:54
Speaker
Who programmed to believe you that you only can eat when you get something done?
00:19:58
Speaker
You do a chore or you finish your homework.
00:20:01
Speaker
Really get to the root of your body and food awareness.
00:20:04
Speaker
Right?
00:20:05
Speaker
What does your body say when certain food is in front of you?
00:20:09
Speaker
Do you want it or do you think you should eat it because everybody else is eating theirs?
00:20:12
Speaker
No.
00:20:13
Speaker
Follow your own counsel.
00:20:15
Speaker
Right?
00:20:16
Speaker
Your own counsel.
00:20:17
Speaker
So the moral of the story here is this, people.
00:20:22
Speaker
I, me, Mr. Bigger, do not want you to be a perfect person.
00:20:28
Speaker
I don't want you to strive for perfection.
00:20:30
Speaker
I want you to strive for progress, right?
00:20:32
Speaker
But I want you to become aware of your body and food.
00:20:36
Speaker
Now, I'm not saying go get a nutritionist and get a trainer.
00:20:39
Speaker
What I'm saying is awareness is the number one thing to evolvement, right?
00:20:44
Speaker
So what is your body telling you around food?
00:20:46
Speaker
What is your body telling you around rest?
00:20:49
Speaker
Some of us don't get enough rest.
00:20:50
Speaker
So when you're not getting your rest, you'll eat anything that's in your environment because you're hungry or you're hangry.
00:20:58
Speaker
So be aware of your body.
00:21:01
Speaker
Be aware of the food you eat.
00:21:03
Speaker
And take

00:21:15

00:21:27

00:21:29

00:21:30
Speaker
We...
00:21:31
Speaker
Over here at Bigger Talks, we ain't being perfect.

Speaker

00:21:44
Speaker
We're not going to judge ourselves or talk down on ourselves because those things don't produce good fruit.
00:21:51
Speaker
Right.
00:21:51
Speaker
So we're not doing that.
00:21:53
Speaker
But that's it.
00:21:54
Speaker
That's all.
00:21:55
Speaker
Remember, don't forget.
