Introduction to the Podcast

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to another Daily Forest at the Global Sports Podcasting Network. I'm Stuart and joining me to discuss nothing of forest against West Ham. It's Marley. Marley, how are you doing?

Optimism for Nottingham Forest

00:00:21
Marley
I am doing well, very highly optimistic about this weekend's victory against West Ham, looking at the table, very, very excited, but a bit underwhelmed because it's 21 hours into Halloween and I've still not been scared yet.
00:00:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, well, um If you want to try try being scared, I don't know, you could ah imagine you're a Derby County fan poor or or less a Leicester City fan even, maybe that would could put some ah but some chills chills down your spine.
00:00:44
Marley
ah
00:00:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
But no, I think...
00:00:50
Marley
probably seen as one of them, as one of them's just managed to concede a scream at a Casamira of all people.
00:00:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
my Yeah, it certainly was... a if If anyone can make Manchester United look good, it's Leicester City at the moment, then it seems.
00:01:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But talking of these autumnal holidays, um bonfire night, I feel, is more relevant because forests are on fire. um Can you see any reason why that won't be the case and we won't be celebrating a third straight win come Saturday tea time?

Historical Success and Current Form

00:01:25
Marley
not at all not at all uh west ham are very not on fire at the minute we've beaten teams this season who who are looking 10 times better than rat west ham the fan base seems quite sour and against julienne lopategi their current manager as far as i've seen so far and adding to that our home form against west ham is pretty good not that we've played them that much but we haven't lost at home to them since 2011 that includes when they were a
00:01:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:01:54
Marley
ah Premier League side under Sam Allardyce came to the city ground in the FA Corp in 2014 and we fumped them 5-0 plus the two home fixtures we played against them in the prem. So yeah, I don't see anything pointing towards us dropping our brilliant run of form on Saturday.
00:02:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I know it's a very ah unusual position that we're in, certainly in our time in the Premier League, that we're going into into a fixture so so confident. And let's just hope that it doesn't backfire on us, because we're all wanting to injury doubts, which is perhaps the only reasons why there might be a bit of um doubt, but or a bit of a lack of confidence in the team.

Team Strategies and Lineup Changes

00:02:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But before we go in to discuss those injury doubts, what the what what were our teams might be and any other topics around the game, let's hear what James has to say.
00:04:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think the way he ended that, yeah, I don't think there's any, certainly in the Premier League or Marinakis' experience of owning a club in the Premier League, he's certainly been at the opposite end of the controversial decisions, especially recently. So I don't think anyone could accuse Forrest of fixing things in their favour in the Premier League. um But the unchanged team that that James mentioned, I would um would go for that purely because um Anderson deserves the shirt ahead of Gibbs White, even if Gibbs White were to be fit. And then any other the only other person who you might put into that team, James Ward Prowse, of course, can't play against a team he is on loan from, here's from his parent club. What's your thoughts, Marley? Are you going to push for a Sosa after to to come in, as as you quite often do, or or you but would also agree with myself and James to keep to an unchanged team?
00:05:24
Marley
There's a couple of changes I would push forward. I think if Gibbs White is fit, he's too much of a star to leave out on his team. I'd put him back in, I'd drop Anderson back to alongside the eight, drop Dominguez to the bench, and I would do what I've suggested before, which is play a rotating role for Gibbs White and Anderson, where one of them drops deeper, the other pushes on a bit, and they rotate those two roles throughout the game. I think we'll get a lot out of that, especially since that'll give us something different each time with the person in the middle. West Ham will have to keep on adapting to it throughout the game. That might throw them off a bit. The other change I'd be tempted to make is one on the wing. I would drop a Langer and bring in Jota Silver for the start because I have been thinking recently Jota Silver
00:06:12
Marley
I feel like he's impressed me a lot more than Alanga has and even in the open training session I was a lot more convinced by Jotter when I was Alanga. So I'd definitely bring Jotter in, see what he can offer us from the start.
00:06:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I said that the last time I did ah did a preview episode that it was time now for Yotta to start ahead of Alanga because Yotta, he wasn't signed to make 38 substitute appearances in the Premier League. He was signed to compete for it his place, to challenge for it. And I, and at that time, since the two episodes ago now, or two weeks ago now, I said that he should start ahead of Alanga. This was just before this mini winning run.
00:06:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
The only reason why I'm changing my mind now is because keep this unchanged team together as long as the winning run continues. I mean, if we're forced into making a change, of course, then you can make the case that a team isn't unchanged anyway. Therefore, maybe you consider putting in the octofora-langa, but assuming that Anderson is is fit, and you mentioned yesterday or yeah yes no two days ago when you were at the opening session that Anderson wasn't there. So yeah, I think if we we can,
00:07:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
stick with it to be unchanged. We will do. um pure We should do purely to really build that color chemistry. It's an attacking team, ah both for full backs as well. Push high and we're going to need need to attack um West Ham from the off as as we aim to make it that third third straight win.
00:07:41
Marley
yeah and um obviously talking about it being our first straight win it's it would be massive for us as well it'd be another show of how much we're pushing on as a team how much we're developing as a club we're really improving because i don't actually think we've gone three wins on the bounce yet since promotion once and um looking at the news that came out today is that we've had four nominations in the ah end of month of rewards awards so to speak In the Premier League we've had Sells against the Crystal Palace through that as a long shot of save of the month.

Progress in the Premier League

00:08:17
Marley
Nuno is up for manager of the month and both Sells and Wood are up for player of the month. That's unheard of for Forest. We've never in the Premier League had four different nominations for awards that we can vote on. So there is a massive feeling there that things are happening. We're pushing forward and obviously stuff that hasn't happened is happening. It just shows that Maranakis is obviously the right man. Nuno is the right man.
00:08:42
Marley
we are more of an established Premier League club than we thought we would be and it's really exciting because the only way is up.
00:08:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely. I think that you've why you you mentioned Halloween at the start start of the episode. Unfortunately, the only Halloween thing that now comes to mind is is the curse of the manager of the month. Although I think that's technically once someone's won the manager of the month and not when the nominat nominations are announced.
00:09:03
Marley
wow
00:09:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's hope we can get the win the weekend and the curse. If it kicks in for any of these winners, it only happens later down the line because I think West Ham will be important to get the three points again, something what I've said before.
00:09:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was saying before the Palace game, at least, when we finally did get that first home win of the season, was that we hadn't won yet a game we'd been expected to win, pointing to Fulham and Bournemouth and Wolves at home. So we finally did that against Palace. We beat the team we'd be expected to win against. So I really hope that we we can push on, attack West Ham at the front on the front foot, make it really dominant start to start the game.
00:09:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um, before we come in Marley with any, any thoughts you might have on any of West Ham's danger men, we'll take a short break. Do you have a story to tell that the world needs to hear? And the one advert we had pre-recorded here, Marley was the Italian version, so as much as it's nice to hear the from the GSP and Italiano Premier League ah voice I thought I'd id read it out my mic myself this time. So West Ham, any danger men who you fear?

Analyzing West Ham's Key Players

00:10:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
They did get a win against Manchester United, but that's not not saying much. It was only every 10 hugs Manchester United, even as at the one of our lowest points, having just sacked Cooper last winter, we were even able to get a win over every 10 hugs Manchester United.
00:11:10
Marley
Yeah, looking through, ah you know, the United, the West Ham squad, and their average ratings so far this season, there's not that much standout, really. you You've got the obvious ones. You've got but Jared Bowen, Lucas Packeter, Carlos Soler, and Michael Antonio, which on paper sounds really deadly. Scary front four. But Packeter, Soler, and Antonio have been relatively disappointing this season. They've not really kicked on and performed as the danger dangerous front four you'd expect them to. Only Jared Bowen's had a half decent season so far. Obviously Aaron Wambisaka looks to revitalise right back at West Ham. Obviously his move from United has really benefited him. He's looked really good. um But again, the rest of the back four has looked slightly disappointing this season. um And obviously they've got a quality goalkeeper in Lukas Fabianski. But if their defenders don't perform, especially since Mavropanos and Kilman will really need to pull
00:12:11
Marley
ah better performance out of the bag than they have been doing. Fabianski will be exposed to a lot of shots or half chances which I don't think he'll be able to cope with them all.
00:12:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I agree. I mean, even that front four, the magic four, if you like, Solaire, Pekita, Bowen and Antonio, Bowen lost his place in the England squad. yeah He made the first of the cards of his elections, but not the second one, which is an indication that that his ah goal and assist record that stuck in the place in the Euro squad has has deserted him. Antonio I mean, there are times in our Premier League journey when i when I would have loved to have re-re-signed him. um We were linked with him in a number of windows in the first couple of the seasons, but I think that time has passed. i think I think we've now finally outgrown Mikel Antonio. I don't think he would add anything to our current current team or even our current squad. We've discussed before Yotta and Sosa and even Taro Aouni. I would want them to be the bench options ahead of an aging Mikel Antonio.
00:13:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then Pacattar, he's got this ah possible lifetime ban hanging over him, so he hasn't been the same player this season either. And Carlos Soler, I heard on another podcast the other day, um the guy there that's talking about West Ham's win over Manchester United, and whether that masked West Ham's problems, and the guy said he'd forgotten Carlos Soler was even at West Ham. He came with a reputation, of it but had barely played. So yeah, i I think the only, the biggest danger to Nottingham Forest on Saturday is It's nothing in forest. It's as if we don't start well. If we don't start on the front foot, then we could allow West Ham to gain confidence throughout the game. If we start on the front foot, get an early goal, show really great the attacking positive patterns of play. um Then I think I'm looking forward to James and his voice note 3-1. I think it should could be 3-0 or 4-0. I don't think we should be conceding against the team at West Ham.
00:14:06
Marley
yeah i mean against crystal palace we showed obviously that we can win these games that were expected to win we're not always going to draw them due to sloppy mistakes we showed against lester but we're finally kind of finding our sharper edge we're learning how to take our chances and score more goals as opposed to the other games where we've been wasting chances really we should have put into the sword even crystal palace we should have put to the sword and we haven't because we've been wasting the chances I don't think we'll be that consistent on that yet. I think it'll take a few ah few weeks or maybe a couple of months, but I think we're going to start working on it. I don't think it's going to be too high scoring, but I think we'll score a few. I'm going to go two now.
00:14:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think um you're right. it Maybe it's still early on in in in the teams, teams for aggression, but it is something that is happening. We are we are progressing. We are ah gradually looking forward to be one of those established premier teams. And yeah, if we can, I mean, West Ham are the type of team that aren't going to get relegated. um So we're ahead of a team like West Ham in the table. That can only be and be ah a good thing. There's almost a mark mark of our progress over at West Ham.

Handling Player Injuries

00:15:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it means that it means we're doing well.
00:15:21
Marley
very much so
00:15:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
So in.
00:15:22
Marley
and
00:15:25
Marley
ah carry off
00:15:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, sorry, just the relax that I was going to ask what is it? what What else? I mean, it's been a a quiet week, really, and everything forest related. Now, I know that James mentioned um this libel case against Maranakis. I mean, my understanding is it's nothing new in terms of the allegations. They are historic, but it's only now but come to light due to and the court document allowed ah being allowed to release, so I'm not concerned at this point. To go on, let's just burst the bubble, Marley, for the for the last last minutes out of the episode. Should should we be worried or or concerned about anything? For Gibbs White, for example, would you prefer s an exact date on when his return would be? um Does the fact that it we we're not clear on it, where are you at all? Or are you happy to trust the process and understand that he'll be back when he's ready and we've got more than enough players to
00:16:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
cope if he's not playing.
00:16:21
Marley
I wouldn't really want us to have an exact date. I wouldn't even want us to tell the truth if I'm completely honest. I loved it back when in the promotion season when we'd say a player wouldn't be back for a few weeks and they'd pop them and start a lineup for the next game or if we'd say they'd be next game and it took them a few more weeks because not only does it add a bit of an element of surprise but it also it can f throw the opposition off if they're thinking oh oh this player's gonna be back we need to prepare all week for that threat, wait, they're not back. And now I've got a different threat that we've not prepared for that kind of throw an opposition off. So if Gibbs white's not going to be back, say he's going to be back. If he's going to be back, say that he'll be a couple of weeks. And, um, on the side of, should we be concerned? I wouldn't say so.
00:17:12
Marley
um I think the only reason it's come back up really is because if you haven't heard of Maranakis is in fact suing the people who have brought those up against him and the only worry for that is if Maranakis himself is a bit distracted from that but I don't think it'll pose too much problems in the club.
00:17:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's got a bit more time off still. I think this is game three of his stadium bans, maybe while he's still got games. Three, four and five of his stadium bans to go. He can spend his Saturday afternoon sorting out his sort out his legal cases.
00:17:42
Marley
and those last account was only home games
00:17:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, I think it's it's a very good question, but I think it said because he wasn't at Leicester. I think I only ever saw it say a five-match stadium ban. So if his crime was spitting at referees, you can do that home or away.
00:18:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
like it is it wasn't a city ground specific event. So um I think Leicester was game game two of the band, although I couldn't be 100% on that one. um But yeah, in terms of um and anything else, so we've got one final game after West Ham before the next international break already, which is Newcastle at home.
00:18:12
Marley
Yeah.
00:18:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So what would represent a good return from these set of four fixtures? So already on six points out of six points. you is nothing other than 12 out of 12 will success or will 8 or 10 points if the next two games are draws or could be draws be acceptable or what's your overarching take on this mini break of set of fixtures in between the October and November international breaks.

Expectations from Upcoming Fixtures

00:18:47
Marley
For me, from these fixtures, five, seven points would have been so susceptible. It would have been acceptable. It would have been all I was really after because I was always going to think we need to win against Palace. I would have definitely accepted a draw against Leicester with it being an away game. I always knew it was going to be tough. Same with ah Newcastle. I would have accepted a draw, expected a feat, but I would have accepted a draw and West Ham.
00:19:15
Marley
I would have wanted a win, but I wouldn't be too disappointed with a draw. Obviously, I'm still not that, oh, I expect better results now because we're pushing on. I still expect those sort of 17th in the table performances, but I am actually really happy that we're getting higher and I'm starting to think, you know what, maybe we are going to be a bit higher. Maybe my prediction for the next few games is going to be much more optimistic.
00:19:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think it's very interesting that you went into these four games with that 17th or higher risk is good, good enough mindset. Everything I get at the start of the season, certainly, I would have said avoiding a relegation battle is it's acceptable. But I think because we have started so well, I think we're now at the point where we're allowed to, I'm not going to say dream of a top seven a finish or whatever, but we are allowed to say, OK, this is a winnable set of four fixtures into an international break and maybe four or five points is no longer good enough. And maybe, again, 12 out of 12 would be perhaps that unrealistic. It is is the Premier League. There's no no easy fixtures. But I think we're still allowed to say, especially with the next two games being at home, it would be a disappointment if we lose one of these West Hamel Newcastle games. ah Neither of them are are better than us. And we should be, I'm not going to say, we should definitely be both of them. But if we're all confident about the West Ham win,
00:20:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
think at least at a draw against Newcastle before the next break would be a minimum expectation almost.
00:20:45
Marley
I think this is probably better said in next week's episode of Friday forecast, but I'm saying it now because I really want to get it out there. When we played Newcastle and the Carabao Cup back in August, and we essentially played our V team. Newcastle played a lot of our A team. And for a lot of the game, it felt like we were in a way playing them off a park. We just couldn't score. And we were unlucky to go 1-0 down at the start. It was a stupid kickoff routine that caused the goal.

Challenges Against Newcastle

00:21:10
Marley
Imagine what our A-Team is going to do to them, namely if he's back, imagine Gibbs White, Hudson Doyle, Elanga, and then maybe be a 1E, Sosa, and Jota Silva, and Eddie Anderson all running at Danburn. I don't think Danburn's going to cope. I honestly believe a Newcastle game sounds scary, sounds like a loss, but it could be a loss of fun.
00:21:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, let's hope so. um And then finally, before we go, Marley, you'll be at the city grounds. Again, we'll talk about Newcastle ah in a week's time, but ahead of West Ham. um what's What's the voice note? It's gonna be the same as Palace. That's as much as Horse, Voice and Screaming are slightly more reserved. What with it being a Saturday the afternoon kickoff.
00:21:54
Marley
Hopefully it will be similar in terms of your content. I might try and get a bit more throughout the game rather than just after we score. um Probably a bit less horse voice because not only is it no not an 8pm kickoff this time, I'm also in a different area of the ground. I'm up a Brian Clough this time rather than Lower Bridgeford, so there might be a bit less singing and dancing going on, but yeah, I'll definitely try and get Mochi and Tyre again, without a doubt.
00:22:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Definitely. then we We look forward to hearing that in in the in the coming days, Marley's in stadium review of the Forest View West Ham game. Any for final thoughts, Marley? Or should we say say good night and look forward to hearing your thoughts on Sunday into Monday?
00:22:37
Marley
I say it's time to say goodnight to the listeners, to the viewers on social media, on the clips. Thank you for tuning in and we will see you again on a Monday review.
