Introduction & Hosts

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome back to the Daily Forest podcast from the Global Sports Podcast Network. Joining me, Stuart, that's still in South America, is Marley from Cottgrave. Marley, how are you doing?
00:00:22
Marley
I am doing very, very well. um I'm pretty much the only person going to be mentioned today who is not from South America or currently in South America, even you're in South America. So yeah, feeling a bit cold based off that.
00:00:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, a bit, um... And it's only very different weather weather with you as as it as it is for me. It says here it's 31 degrees, but um it was closer to 40 the day early day for me.
00:00:46
Marley
Jealous.
00:00:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's ah so some very, very hot
00:00:48
Marley
Very jealous.

Murillo's Journey to South America

00:00:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
stuff.
00:00:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But also in South America right now, having made the journey the journey from Nottingham to to Brazil is Merillo. So to kick off our Wild Card Wednesday, we're going to talk in general about some of the great and not so great South Americans to have played for forests over the time.
00:01:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
But let's begin by chatting Marley about Marillo, our um um amazing Brazilian who's been an ever-present in the team since he made his debut last October against Crystal Palace. So Marley, in the event that we have some non-Forest fans listening, why is Marillo so important to us and just how good do you think he is?
00:01:30
Marley
none of those are important to us because even last season when we had some defensive issues he's a very very solid center back he not much gets past him honestly he will dispossess anyone who comes towards him he's not afraid of anyone and he doesn't see anyone i think i've got to get in that give them that extra bit of respect because they're this person he will still just latch on to you make sure you don't get past him and it's not just defending he's good at you can spray a very good ball forward he got a very nice assist for um Chris Wood at Newcastle away last season and he can also dribble very well. He's even got a very good long distance shot on him. He's got pretty much everything you could ever wish for.
00:02:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Despite all that, his first goal for Forrest was a routine header from a set piece in in the Newcastle game this this weekend, just gone. When Morello first joined us last year, he had played just 13 league games for our Corinthians in the Brazilian top division. So what were your thoughts when when he first came in? There was a lot of hype about him, but Due to the mixed success rate of some of the other Brazilian imports, I was not so but so sold on his first signing.

Murillo's Role at Nottingham Forest

00:02:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
What were your thoughts when Murillo first walked through the door?
00:02:43
Marley
I was quite excited based off A, simply because the rest of the fanbase was and I normally go for what I see on Twitter, but also B, based off formulating my own opinion. I thought a lot of our centre backs back then were quite tall and thin. I loved the fact that we were signing a physical looking, not as tall, but very stocky centre back who look like a bit like a onee in a way, how they're not that thin, they're quite wide, but that means they can hopefully use that physicality while defending and muscle people off the ball. He looks like that proper solid centre off and that's what I thought we needed at the time.
00:03:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you think Senterback is definitely Murillo's best position? Every now and then there are talks about switching him to left back to give him more attacking responsibility or even moving moving him further afield into a CDM defensive midfield type role? Or what do you think, especially with his partnership with Milankovic that's building this season, Senterback is the base best place for him in in this Nottingham Forest team?
00:03:45
Marley
And there were times last season when I thought we should move him to CDM, especially halfway through Crystal Palace versus Nottingham Forest at Selhurst Park, when he decided to ball roll both Crystal Palace centre backs at once. ah Or even this season when he decided to walk up to Eddie Nkessi and roulette him. But um no, I think centre backs definitely his best position. um But I do think he causes a lot of havoc with his burst forward and I think Even from centre-back, he can still use them to his advantage, for example, Crystal Palace at home this season, no it wasn't, it was West Ham at home this season, 3-0 win. Alvaro has obviously got sent off, his first yellow card, which was with pulling Morello back while he was on one of his wonders forward, so although he can sometimes put us in trouble, I think he's learning when to and not to use them, and to use them only when it will really benefit us.
00:04:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think that's definitely the notice between last season and this. So last season we had one of the weakest defenses in and the Premier League. And that shows that Murillo A didn't have a consistent partner. I think he started every game after his debut. but That was alongside Niakate, Felipe, Amabawadele, Bali, sometimes in a three. um So he just never never quite got that consistency, which he would have needed as part of a young player coming from the other side of the world in his first first season in the Garibaldi Red. Both those um issues have been sorted this year. It's not his first year, it's his second year. He's he's more settled. I think he's got married.
00:05:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
i since he was joined Forrest, is his his his his wife is with him in Nottingham too. And then he's got that ideal experienced partner, a taller, stronger in the air, more classic defender, Milankovitch.

Murillo's Future Prospects

00:05:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Milankovitch will score score goals for Forrest, but they will be ah the classic headers from the corner.
00:05:28
Marley
Is that?
00:05:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
They won't be from 50-yard star-limbing runs and pipping balls into the top corner. But I think we can happily say that Murillo is going to be key part of our defense, at least for this season, and I think a third season as well purely because we don't have PSR concerns anymore. We sort of got through that. So if someone had made a 40 or 50 million bid, some had just gone, I think we would have had to have accepted it. But now we've sorted that part out, which means Murillo's internal price tag would have gone up to now 60 or 70 million now that we don't need to sell. And I just don't can't see which of the top clubs who can afford to spend 70 million need a new defender urgently.
00:06:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, what's your thoughts or are you worried this might be season two of two of Morello at the city ground?
00:06:17
Marley
yeah ah I personally think he might be gone at the end of the season simply because with ah Brazil's current injury record I think he'll definitely get game time this international break maybe more than people are expecting and I think once people see him playing for Brazil even maybe getting a start eventually they all think hang on not only is he looking good He's a rare breed in a Brazilian centre-back who's left-footed and carried the ball forward and take shots. He's also now playing regularly for Brazil. This might be a player we need to invest in. and So it's just going to make him more sought after. But at least that goal adds a massive chunk onto that price tag. So when we do eventually sell him, we're rolling in that money.
00:07:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it would definitely be a club record sale, who I'm sure will far exceed the Brenner Johnson fee from

South American Influence at Nottingham Forest

00:07:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
from last summer. And who knows, if he does do actually keep him for just a third year, then next summer, summer 2026, that's a World Cup. So imagine how incredible that would be to see a forest player playing Fort Brazil at a World Cup, something that when we look at the rest of the South American players, far as we've had through history, if you'd say that any of them would be representing Brazil or Argentina at a World Cup whilst paying for Forest. We would certainly not have believed you. That sort of leads us nicely into the main part of the episode, so Forest's South American history and in terms of the players they've had from various South American ah countries. So Marley, who is the South American player that you'd like to ah talk about the to kick off this section?
00:07:57
Marley
So the South American player I'd like to bring up is sticking to the theme of South American Centerbacks. And it's our Chilean Centerback Gonzalo Yara.
00:08:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Interesting.
00:08:08
Marley
yeah yeah
00:08:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So he was someone who I had in mind, ironically, but I'll let you go ahead and introduce what you remember about Gonzalo Jara, then I you can share some thoughts as well.
00:08:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
So what what would have been one your first season or so, 10 years ago but now, or what but why why what was interesting about Gonzalo Jara?
00:08:30
Marley
Gonzalo Schade was obviously a centre-back who he signed on loan from West Brom in 2013. We then made him permanent the next season before eventually selling him to Mainz. An interesting thing about Schade for me is that he was the first Forest player, even if he wasn't technically our player at the time, we might have sold him to Mainz by then, ah who I remember playing for Forest and playing in a World Cup.
00:09:00
Marley
in my lifetime. So it was actually quite exciting to tune into Chilly Games simply to watch him.
00:09:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I remember that um specifically. So in in that World Cup, Chile, they went out on penalties to Brazil and Gonzalo O'Hara, I missed maybe the key penalty or certainly he missed his penalty. um So I remember watching it. So it's friends at university and obviously it was Brazil, Chile, a huge World Cup game. And the commentator said, up steps Gonzalo O'Hara and I sort of knotting him on forest. And a friend of my yeah i think a group who was not so into thought was like, there's a player for forest playing in this game.
00:09:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think I completely agree with you, Molly. That was certainly something um and special to hear the forest name, a forest player playing in such a big game. And yeah, he hadn't quite got the mites move. He actually got the mites move to the Bundesliga on the back of featuring in the World Cup. So yeah, with what we might see with Morello, a forest player, being in the shop window, getting the move to a top club. So back back then, mites of the Bundesliga.
00:10:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
was more, I think it would have been under Thomas Tuchel, I believe, was more attractive than Forrest in the championship. No, it certainly was a interesting thing having a Forest player at the World Cup. um What about Hara, Gonzalo Hara, as a Forest player? I mean, I was excited when we signed him because he came down for West Brom, who were a Premier League established team at the time. He done reasonably well there. And I thought he could have been one of the final pieces of the jigsaw to get us promoted to that 13-14 season.
00:10:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
when Fawaz and Billy Davis were spending some money, what what do you remember of Gonzalo Hara as an actual forest player?
00:10:36
Marley
I don't really remember much of him, if I'm completely honest. I know he's played 48 games for the club ah across those two seasons he was here. And if I remember correctly, he was alright. He wasn't anything too special, but then again he wasn't poor either.
00:10:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, so I think that's A good summary. So as I said, in so the Fawaz era started in yet two summers before that um and then went along to the first season of January 2013 initial loan. It was the first January window of the Fawaz era. We just sacked Sean O'Driscoll, even though we were in the playoffs in Boxing Day. And we just assumed, oh yeah, we've got money now, we've got a rich Middle Eastern owner.
00:11:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
That means we're definitely going to get into into the Premier League and a signing like Gonzalo Hara was actually an exciting um time because we thought of getting Premier League South American internationals are going to propel us to to the Premier League.
00:11:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I didn't quite work out like that. But certainly that was the um excitement or the interest when when you first came in. What's interesting about Gonzalo Hara is I'm just I don't know if you read the transfer marked stats I said earlier, but if you didn't, that's good.
00:11:46
Marley
yeah very difficult one
00:11:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
But Gonzalo O'Hara has actually made second highest number of appearances of any South American player for Forest with 56. Do you want to guess who has which South American player has made more appearances for Forest than Gonzalo O'Hara?
00:12:12
Marley
ah Let's have a think. It won't be any of the ones who have played in the Premier League because I don't think anyone would have played enough. I think it would be Danilo if he didn't break his ankle.
00:12:24
Marley
But because he got that serious...
00:12:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, Danilo is third, Danilo third, so you're right, it's it but Danilo hadn't broken his ankle and he played all 11 games a season instead of one. Danilo would have been first, you're right, at least they'd fit, but as it happens, Danilo is third.
00:12:37
Marley
I'm assuming... I'm assuming it'll be someone who was before my time then because daily all The ones I can really remember from my time who was at, well no one really has ever played many games. I know we had Claudio Jacob from Argentina who never really played. Rodrigo Elle who signed and then got injured and then got sold. Aguilera never really played. I don't know, it's honest.
00:13:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so it's actually a trick question. So Gonzalo Hara made 56 appearances of for Nottingham Forest and Forest's top South American player with one more appearance in Gonzalo Hara.
00:13:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's his fellow Chilean, Bren Baratundias.
00:13:19
Marley
Oh Brereton.
00:13:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, which is a...
00:13:21
Marley
I didn't realise he made that many appearances. I thought he got sold to a Blackburn laughter like one season, Breakthrough season or something.
00:13:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
definitely is a trick question because he all of his Chile Caps came after he left Forest. When he left Forest, he was at England Youth International, called Ben Brereton.
00:13:37
Marley
but
00:13:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know he had um one and a half seasons in the team. So in around February 2017, that was his breakthrough. So he made maybe 15 appearances, second half of that season, and one full season, 17, 18.
00:13:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Then he was told to Blackburn. So with 57 appearances, and what's it say here, and nine goals, he is Forest's top South American appearance maker. and also top South American goal scorer.
00:14:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So as I said, Danilo ah is on 50 appearances and six goals. So he's the second top scorer and he would be um the top appearance maker. So he's only ah eight behind Para.
00:14:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
So if he stayed fifth, you can assume he he would have have made become first all-time top South American appearance maker and all-time top South American goal scorer as well.
00:14:29
Marley
If you want to know a moment, I am really excited for, even if it's not going to come for another a couple of months.
00:14:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go for
00:14:36
Marley
I'm really excited to be stood up in the city ground, looking up at the ah substitution board, cheering, seeing the number 22 come up on the board, clapping, saying, oh, well done, Ryan.
00:14:48
Marley
and Great game. Well done, Yatesy. Look at the other number on the board. And the entire city ground just erupts into a massive, massive cheering round of applause. Danny Lowe's song starts ringing around the ground.
00:14:59
Marley
um We see the blonde hair just run on the pitch for the first time. I can only imagine the ovation he's going to get when he returns to that pitch.
00:15:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely. He is such a popular player as well. um And Sangare has also been out long term. I don't think the applause for Sangare when he returns, I read it read earlier today, both of them are due back next month. um But certainly Danilo, the goodwill and the feeling towards him, he's been at the club, of course, longer than Sangare and he's contributed more than Sangare. He has a song and Sangare doesn't. So I'm also looking forward to seeing the moment where Danilo returns to the team.
00:15:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's, again, slightly off topic on South America, but it's the fact that De Niro and Sangare have both been out long term and will recover, which means I don't think we need certainly no midfielders in January or maybe even no January signings at all.
00:15:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
What's your thoughts on finally an international break before January? Would you be looking to stay strengthen in January or what's your take on
00:15:56
Marley
i um I think I would bring maybe two players in in January.
00:16:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:16:04
Marley
Not particularly that we need the signings but I think it'll just be handy to have the extra players in just to strengthen the squad especially if we're gonna lose anyone in January which I can imagine we will at least sell one player.
00:16:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
So who do you think will get rid of Toffolo and Amabamadelli? They seem to be, they made just one appearance each, because we need, of course, the 25-man squad rule, we have 24 players. So unless the signings we sign are under 21,
00:16:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
signing to over 21 players, we need to get rid of at least one. Would you also say tough load on mobile? Deli should head for the exit or who would you lose if you're going to bring someone in?
00:16:42
Marley
I think ah it hurts me to say this because I love the man, but I think we're going to sell Tophalo. I think he needs to move back down to the championship. And then maybe if he comes up, he can establish himself a bit more of a Premier League player.
00:16:54
Marley
But with us having Lodi, then with signed Aina, I just don't think he's really had that chance. Especially now with London Moreno, he's not even second to his left back anymore, which is sad.
00:17:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he's been a great guy community champion, Harry Toffolo, very, very popular off the field. But you know, you're right, he's not.

Transfer Talk at Nottingham Forest

00:17:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think him, on the Belvidelli, their next appearance with RS will be the Ethicup third round match.
00:17:20
Marley
yeah three yeah i was gonna say on my my medley is a very good player um he's only young i thought i wouldn't sell him i'll definitely only know him out in a minute
00:17:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then I think after that we that that, that game should put them in the shop window on the Belvidelli because he's still young for a loan and Toffolo for a sale back to the championship.
00:17:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely. He's an asset. He played well, whatever he was called upon last year. But again, as I said, started the zep episode with Murillo and Milankovic. And then we have Marato, another South American. And then of course, the good old Willy Bolly. Bamadeli is just behind the pecking order at the moment. So I think a move out for him just to get a few more games will be beneficial.
00:18:01
Marley
I think I would also loan out Eric da Silva-Marrera as well.
00:18:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah
00:18:06
Marley
I don't think he's benefiting from being a third, fourth choice fallback. Obviously behind Williams in the right back order and now I've got Moreno on the left. He's also behind Aina in the right back order.
00:18:17
Marley
So I definitely sent him out on loan somewhere. Probably abroad in a top flight.
00:18:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
think the yeah I think the difference with him because he's he's come come from abroad. I don't know if he came to England already having a knowledge of English. But if if not, then I think any loan move should be to be a championship or even a progressive top of league one team because he's played twice for us. He played in the Carabao game against Newcastle and then stoppage time against West Ham last week. And he'd be played well. So you're right, he's too good for for a speed team, it'd be for him to be playing in what are essentially youth team games. He's not going to develop ah purely due to the settling in and the language thing. If he's going to go on loan, I would prefer it to be to a championship team rather than, say, Olympiacos, where he might get a bit lost lost in the system there.
00:19:06
Marley
Yeah, but the issue with that is I also think he's way too good to go into the championship. When he's played, he's really impressed me personally. like I think if we're gonna loan him out, we either need to loan him to the bottom of a
00:19:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:17
Marley
a foreign league, if we have to go anywhere in England, I'd look at teams like Leicester, Southampton, Ipswich, see if they need a right back.
00:19:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, that I could concern an option. It just shows how much we've grown as as a club that we're thinking our third choice is right back, as Eric the Silberman era, is still good enough to be a Premier League player for for a team lower down the table.
00:19:41
Marley
Definitely.
00:19:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's now...
00:19:42
Marley
and
00:19:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
sorry much i
00:19:45
Marley
I'm just trying to think who our right backs were. Our right backs at the beginning of our Premier League spell were Nika Williams and Serge Aurier.
00:19:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so it was Nico, so Joriae, and was there a third one in the first year?
00:20:00
Marley
No, I don't think there was, because I think we only had Lodi and Tofflo on the other side.
00:20:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I don't think there was, no.
00:20:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, plus Omar Richards, who was signed first, and of course he he is a very unfortunate time as as a forest player, so it was meant to be, I think, Richards and...
00:20:12
Marley
Yeah. He's still technically a forest player I think, he's only on loan at real age.
00:20:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no, that's true. And then last year, as well as Joriae, who left in January, and Williams, There was Aina who of course ended up paying notes on the left but also back to our South American theme Gonzalo Montiel. To talk to us a bit bit about Gonzalo Montiel, what do you remember about him and should we have made his made him permanently in the summer?
00:20:39
Marley
I don't really remember much about him, kind of deliberately. um
00:20:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah
00:20:45
Marley
When he first played for us, my first thoughts on him were blimey, he's short.
00:20:52
Marley
He was probably the shortest player on the pitch when he played in the Carabao Cup against Burnley. He looked good in that game. Throughout the season, he was kind of hit and miss. There was a few games he impressed me in, but a few games we might as well have played.
00:21:04
Marley
I don't know. We might as well have played Chris Wood at left bat. So, yeah, hit and miss.
00:21:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, it is strange with Montiel. He came in, couldn't dislodge Aurier, who was captioning the team at the time last autumn when Warrall and it was time to have out the team as Aurier the captain. And then um with Montiel got a bit of an injury, Aurier was sold. And then Nico Williams made the right back spot on his own for the second half of last season. So Montiel's only short space in the team was those wins, those early Nuno wins against Manchester United and Newcastle. I think he played 90 minutes in both of them.
00:21:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
but they were only the only real performances that he made any any sort of impact in.
00:21:46
Marley
Yeah. um
00:21:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
So the other four three Argentinian players sorry that we've had playing for Forrest is Nifes Dominguez, still there. you're You're a big fan

Player Spotlights: Dominguez & Aguilera

00:21:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
of him. He's in the team at the moment. ah He's on 39, Forrest appearances.
00:21:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
So he's another we would hope to get to 50 towards the end of this season. Claudio Jakob, another you mentioned, who played just 17 times in a year and a half.
00:22:03
Marley
Claudio wrap up as well. I've already mentioned. And I think I've already mentioned the other one as well. I was.
00:22:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
um The fourth Argentinian player is a guy called Gino Padula, a left-back we signed from QPR in 2005.
00:22:18
Marley
Where was Rodrigo Elie from? Was he from Uruguay?
00:22:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
but Brazil, Brazil.
00:22:22
Marley
Oh, he was Brazilian.
00:22:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so we've covered the two Chileans, Benveritan Diaz and Gonzalo Hara.
00:22:24
Marley
Blimey.
00:22:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Argentina, um we've just covered. Brazil is the longest list, so coming to Brazil last. um Paraguay. There are two Paraguayans. So Ramon Sosa, a current player you ah rate highly. Can you remember the only other Paraguayan nothing forest player?
00:22:45
Marley
ah It was a guy who played a few games. Highly impressed me when he played. And then I think he got abducted by aliens. He just disappeared off the face of the earth. Brian O'Hayda.
00:22:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's correct. So he joined on deadline day 2021. He played three games in a row. I think it was September, no, October or November. So under Cooper, he and one of Cooper's early games, I heard it played three times in a row, and then call back when it's placed back. And as you write, I heard it never but made another appearance in Nottingham Forest. Now at Rare at Salt Lake City in the MLS.

can we can we count a nation which is technically central america stroke caribbean area but we've only had one player from there i kind of want to mention him we've also had one player from costa rica geography from nerds i know it's not technically south america but i really want to mention brandon aguilera as well signed him as a and like 19 maybe even younger ah when we first got promoted prospect kept him on loan him in costa rica and in there
00:23:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah
00:23:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go ahead.
00:23:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
go ahead
00:23:48
Marley
native league came back over here played in our B team last season and this season is out on loan to one of our sister teams in Portugal.
00:23:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so I think it was technically a permanent move to Rio Ave. I think it's because you're only allowed to... There are now limits on the number of players you're allowed to loan out in this season. So here's one. So Panzo and Jonathan Omar Richards are both on loan at Rio Ave. Aguilera was technically permanent, although they're owned by Marinakis. Should he impress there? I'm sure he'll be back there, back at City Ground without too much difficulty.
00:24:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
But you are forgetting and you are right Costa Rica, not technically South America football in football terms, but in geography terms, it's close enough. You're missing a quite obvious Costa Rican.
00:24:33
Marley
Oh, Kaylo Navas.
00:24:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Of course, most multiple Champions League winner, Kayla Navas, somehow ending up at Forest for a half season on loan our first year up there.
00:24:36
Marley
How could I forget?
00:24:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
um We also had a guy on loan in our last Premier League season before this

Identity & Injuries: Darshaville & Felipe

00:24:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
spell. So 98.99 John Claude Darshaville. I remember his being French. He was on loan from Rennes.
00:24:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Apparently he went on to win a cap for French Guiana. So he's counted as being South American here. And then finally, ah Brazil. So the country we've had the most ah South American players from.
00:25:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10. So 10 in total.
00:25:14
Marley
And I see how many I can mention.
00:25:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Two. Yeah, go there. So how many of the 10 can you mention? Go go go for it.
00:25:19
Marley
Morello.
00:25:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:21
Marley
Danilo.
00:25:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yep.
00:25:23
Marley
Gustavo Scarpa. Morato.
00:25:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:25:28
Marley
Rodrigo Elle.
00:25:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
who
00:25:32
Marley
Renan Lodi.
00:25:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep. Yep.
00:25:35
Marley
I think that's about all I can mention, personally.
00:25:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so you got seven. So in the Premier League era, you haven't yet mentioned concept guys eight.
00:25:40
Marley
Oh, Carlos Miguel, Carlos Miguel. Carlos Miguel.
00:25:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
So there's two more. ah One Premier League and one Random Championship. No, sorry, three, I think he, sorry.
00:25:49
Marley
It's primarily one current.
00:25:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry, you said Carl's Miguel twice. or about by that you Either I've miscounted or you said Miguel twice. So one, two, three, four.
00:25:58
Marley
I think you counted one extra that I didn't say.
00:26:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, so he said six. is that So is one there's one from just last season, one from both the first two Premier League years, and then one just from the championship.
00:26:13
Marley
One from last season that I haven't mentioned.
00:26:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Well, technically, there's one who played just for last season and one who played last season and the season before.
00:26:23
Marley
that's very difficult yep
00:26:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
the one who was only there last season. He's now getting rave reviews at his new club in French League. um That's a clue.
00:26:33
Marley
Andre Santos still
00:26:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I understand that's correct. Number two from...
00:26:37
Marley
don't show up with him
00:26:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, well, the thing there were talks to the rooms that Cooper didn't know he'd signed until he saw him, he turned up for training. So I think it wasn't a Cooper man. And for whatever reason, that put him off Nottingham.
00:26:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, maybe he'd stay with the Portuguese speaking manager in Nuno. He would have been able to getting more minutes the second half of the season, but then maybe it was decided to be best for all parties that he didn't stay on longer. Okay. Final Premier League Brazilian. You haven't, haven't mentioned ah Housewives favorite.
00:27:08
Marley
Alipay. How have I forgotten for Alipay, man?
00:27:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's, it's again, let me, what does this stat say? He played 25 times the forest and as, as a guest, I'm going to say that was 18 in the first, his first half season where he helped keep us up and then only seven times.
00:27:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
throughout last season where you made very, very rare sightings. But no, he was always very, very dependable in a two with Bolly or in a three with Worrell or even Ore playing as a third center back in that exciting run-in in April, May, 2023.
00:27:40
Marley
it was so good as well
00:27:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the final, yeah, it is a shame that he got picked at that injury in that winning against Arsenal, which I talked about in our Forest Memories episode right at the start of us doing this.
00:27:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was never the same player again, unfortunately, after that. um Final, Forest Brazilian, someone who played five times on loan from us under Martin O'Neill, Leo Bonettini, a striker on loan from Wolves.
00:28:06
Marley
yeah leo bonnatini i've heard a lot about ah him normally from my mate who's a big Wolves fan he absolutely loves him. He was a relatively dependable striker in his time I believe.
00:28:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I remember when so the season before that, so when Wolves got promoted in 17-18, he was one of the reliable goal scorers scoring about 15 goals, didn't cut it in the prem, ended did it back on online at the championship with us and didn't do anything with us either. So we don't want to end this episode on a low note talking about Leo Bonettini. So for all the South American players who mentioned, who is your favorite
00:28:46
Marley
It's very difficult to pick a favorite really.

Favorite South American Players Discussion

00:28:49
Marley
And and correct especially because I can barely pick between Danilo and Marillo. ah if um If I've got a gun to my head and I must pick a favorite, I would probably, probably go with, you know what? I'm gonna go for the outside shout. I'm gonna go with Gustavo Scarpa because he kind of came, started a YouTube channel.
00:29:15
Marley
got the whole squad into Rubik's cubes and then got scammed in a crypto scam and left.
00:29:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, certainly. If there's ever a story about Casaba Scarpa's life, it certainly would be an interesting one. Yeah, you're completely right. He was so popular. He was the first guest on the official Nottingham Forest podcast, which they ba briefly ran in in that season in the Rubies Cube. He was skateboarding around town and and Lady Bay, and he had lost a million dollars in cryptocurrency scam. He's now back playing in Brazil for a let's go with Minero. um Because you went for a left field one, I'm going to be sneaky and jump in and say, Marilla, purely because when we were kids, when you think of a South American footballer, you would think of silky, smooth, Brazilian, Samba-style footballers. You wouldn't think of a jobbing championship journeyman like Claudio Jacob or players who come and go and don't really impress like Renan Lottie, although he was good.
00:30:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
good a good at time so that's why I'm going to have to say Morello just because I never thought I'd see a Brazilian international playing for Nottingham Forest. That's all we've got time for today thanks for listening and we'll be back in the next few days as we talk you through this international break leading up to Arsenal away when we return.
