00:00:00
Speaker
Welcome back everyone to the popcorn podcast. I'm Tommy Cressa alongside of my coz Ryan Fran. Today we heard like to talk about HBO's new show, The Penguin starring Colin Farrell. I know it's been a while, but you can't mess up that early. I know that early. were we're No, we're not restarting. Fuck that. Um, but yeah, it's been a little bit since we've done an episode, but now we're going to be back in the swing things because now we're going to have weekly episodes again with The Penguin. Yeah. i mean Whatever movies come out, because it's kind of been slow right now with movies. Yeah. I hope this show's good, dude. I mean, we'll we'll talk about it. Yeah. But that first episode was very mad for me. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it at all. But, um you know. Like, it's like a good first episode. Yeah, decent. Well, so we're going to be talking
Film News & Trailer Discussions
00:00:45
Speaker
about that. And then I guess we should talk about some film news, because we really haven't talked about it in a while. but Yeah, there's a bunch. We should go pull some Rotten Tomatoes. Ooh. Yeah, you do that.
00:00:56
Speaker
Oh wait, I don't have internet here now. Are you fucking? Hold on. But I can't think of any movie news. I feel like there's been so much and I can't think of a single thing. It's just, you know, it goes by so quick. Oh, here we go. Wednesday season. I'm going to turn my volume down. Wednesday, season two. Get the first teaser. Cool. Oh, the new Den of Thieves sequel. Oh, it actually looks like a really schlocky but fun action movie. Dude, the first one's awesome. Yeah, the first one rules.
00:01:24
Speaker
I mean, it's just your dad. and yeah let's yeah i say the ho doing Gerard Butler and then a thieves looks exactly like Tommy's dad. If you ever want to know what Tommy's dad looks like. look at our bow and dad e I'm totally it looks like O'Shea Jackson too. O'Shea Jackson looks like my dad.
00:01:41
Speaker
Not so much. Not as much. I can kind of see it. This guy, first of all, I love Ocean Jackson. I feel like he's so much better than this one, than Denis Thieves. I feel like he's a really talented actor. yeah Also, where was the accent in this trailer?
00:01:56
Speaker
to our brothers? No. the ocean jack and like I'm not crazy that at the end of Den of Thieves, he had a British accent, right? That was like the twist that he was a British dude. Because I've been making fun of that for years. I can't remember that. I'm telling you, I don't know if I'm just making something up, but I swear at the end of it,
00:02:12
Speaker
The twist is that he's some like British gangster who infiltrated there like the American bank robbers and just took all the money and he has an accent. or I could be making that up, but I've been making fun of it for years because it's so funny. funny and He just doesn't have it.
00:02:27
Speaker
in this trailer and it threw me off. But I'm still in. i feeling Maybe he was a fake British guy and then that was the to the obvious double twist. um We got a trailer for Mickey 17. New movie with Robert Pattinson. Looks pretty fun. Yeah, Steven Yen's in it. um Who else? Mark Ruffalo.
00:02:46
Speaker
so chinaness um So many Tony Collette was in it. Yeah. Yep. Real quick.
Rotten Tomatoes & National Batman Day
00:02:53
Speaker
It looks pretty good. It looks fun. I'm so excited. Yeah. I think it'll be a decent movie. I want to read the book that's based off of. Is there a book? Mm-hmm. I think it's called Mickey 17. Fascinating. Today is National Batman Day. Is it? It is. How are you celebrating? I'm going to go get a Batman tattoo today. Beat up mentally ill people. Beat up a mom trying to steal eggs for her kids. I'm going to learn Batman.
00:03:17
Speaker
You got to try to feed his family. It's a fucking concussion. He's not. He's lucky. Did you see the new Ariana Du Bois movie trailer? Which one was that? House of Spoils, where she's like the chef. No. Missed that one. Looks kind of nid. All right. um James Cameron has a Hiroshima movie moving forward. Yeah. Was it the last train from Hiroshima? Yeah, it was the guy who was. Nagasaki got bombed first.
00:03:44
Speaker
Hirashima. Hirashima. We shouldn't know this. I think it's Hirashima. And then this guy survived Hirashima, took a train that was in Nagasaki when it happened again. That's what the movie's about. Film will follow a man who survived the atomic blast at Hirashima, got on a train to Nagasaki, survived a nuclear explosion in that city. Man, that's wrong. That's a shitty day.
00:04:05
Speaker
Man, that stinks. You know what I don't like? I don't like the new Rotten Tomatoes thing, the verified audience score. I haven't seen so weird. Yeah, it's like it's called verified hot. Verified what? Verified hot. Ew. Yeah. But Transformers one is officially verified hot at 97% on the popcorn meter for audience scores, which you just know a bunch of shitty movies are only going to be posting all your scores now. Yeah. Like, oh, we're verified fresh. And you're like, well, not really. Oh, we got trailer a new teaser for Batman Ninja vs the Yakuza.
00:04:42
Speaker
which looks really, really cool. he yeah Do I want to see, um, the reviews are officially after the substance, the Demi Moore, um, Margaret quality movie, 80% critic score, 82 audience were. Yeah. I listened to the, um, the nerd soup one. They did like their, they reviewed it.
Deep Dive into 'The Penguin' Series
00:05:00
Speaker
was it Aaron? He goes to, he went to TIFF and saw him. He did like, a you know, brief review. So I was like his soul thing. He does. Yeah. He said it was pretty good. So I'm, you know, I wasn't super interested in that movie, but if people are saying it's pretty good, then I'll check it out. But it's definitely like a body horror with some, they're very hit or miss for me. I yeah really liked them or gag, but yeah. Uh, really Scott is already thinking about making a gladiator three with Paul Mezcal returning to the role.
00:05:27
Speaker
Mm hmm. All right. Let's see how good the this one is first. Yeah. Any decisions? The penguin got an official certified fresh critic score from Rotten Tomatoes at an 89 percent depicting Gotham through bone breaking punches rather than popping.
00:05:42
Speaker
I'm not going to try and say that word. The penguin is grounded crime saga given by given gravitas by Colin Farrell and the scene stealing Christine Melodi. I always think that's how you say it, right? I thought it was Malady. I don't know. a lot eat malodi I'm not Italian. I don't know.
00:05:59
Speaker
But yeah, i first off, we'll talk more about her when we get to that. I really like the choice of her to be so she was good. Yeah. And I wasn't sure I was going to when they announced it. You know, the comics and stuff like that. Yeah. Squid Game season two trailer still haven't watched season one. There's no point in the season. Yeah.
00:06:21
Speaker
Oh, I don't know why they're making them season, but people love the first one. Um, so see how it goes. Isn't the, the, the actual, like the, um, reality show one, isn't, aren't they getting sued? I think they're getting sued for like five, a couple of contestants for some shit. So that's fun. We got a special look at Florida. Andrew Garfield in we live in time. Yeah.
00:06:48
Speaker
Critic door a critical darling. Oh, absolutely Venice Film Festival. Yeah, and did it did it really good big standing ovation Absolutely. We got a first trailer for season seven of black mirror. um I've only watched like eight episodes that entire series Yeah, I haven't seen many but there's some really good like that one why it rustles so scary. Yeah, that was good I also love the Jesse Plemmons one, like the Star Trek one. Have you seen that one? It's a good one. And they're making ah they're making a spin-off show of just that episode. Really? So popular. Yeah. With Jesse Plemmons? Yeah. Holy shit. he's um He's like a CEO of some tech company, and if an employee slights him or something, or if he finds somebody he likes, or something like that, he just steals like a DNA sample. He'll take a coffee cup, and he scans it and puts it into this like VR world.
00:07:36
Speaker
Or it's just like Star Trek, but he's the captain so he can command people who don't respect him in the real world. It's so funny. It's so fucked up, but it's such a good episode. What the fuck? Dude, it's so much fun. um We got our first um official poster for Robert Eggers Nosferatu of Count Orlock played by Bill Skarsgรฅr. It's actually I think it's I think it is Kristin Malady in the episode two. I think she's in that episode. Oh, really? She's like Marilyn. Yeah, I think. I love her.
00:08:08
Speaker
Um, Oh, we got a, the first reviews are officially in for Agatha all along. It's currently sitting at 74% with 34 reviews, which is not a good sign for anything like that. Those first reviews, you always kind of want to sit in that 80 range, low, high seventies, low eighties, but the 74 is not a great starting point. No.
00:08:29
Speaker
I did see they they posted like a, you know, all the first episodes out, you're gonna watch it. And the first comment was just no, I'm watching the penguin. oh I mean, nobody's interested in this fucking show. I don't see when the penguins also coming out. Yeah. And the way WandaVision ended and the way Marvel has been since then. I mean, when WandaVision was coming out, everybody was like, I don't really care about Agatha. She's, you know, a whatever character nobody really cared about. And she gets her own show.
00:08:58
Speaker
i didn't I was rather seeing white vision. Yeah, I think they're still making that show, but losing the steam of like, yeah, this something that happened. I don't know. aga It was just a weird choice to give her her own show. If you want to have that recurring character now and again, fine. But I can't see this show being of any interest to me. I'm probably not going to watch it. It's the same way I didn't watch Secret invasion either. I don't even know what else I didn't even finish. It was so bad. Yeah. ah We got a real for no fucking reason. Yeah, I know. What the hell? Kobe.
00:09:28
Speaker
I love her. Kobe Smulders. Yeah. um We got another post for Heretic, the new A24 Harlem film starring Hugh Grant. Actually looks really fucking creepy. Another poster for Doom Prophecy, which I will say the more I see things about, the more I'm like, okay, they're they're finding my interest. it the That's the show, right? Which I didn't like the first. I thought the first show looked horrible. Yeah, it didn't look great. But I like the most recent one.
00:09:53
Speaker
Yeah. Um, as you said, Mickey 17, uh, you don't move. I'm really excited for that. We just got a new poster for whoo Conclave. Oh yeah. Yeah. Oh yeah. That block that movie's going to be so, yeah, that's right. It's like succession kind of ask, but religious. It's just going to be fun. Ray find Stanley Tucci, John Ligel. And every trailer like Ray finds is just chopping shit up. He just looks like he's having so much fun. I think.
00:10:22
Speaker
think It's like all the big news, right? Oh, we got to show up with that new Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin movie Brothers. It's like a comedy, I think. It seemed like a comedy with Brendan Fraser is also in it. Glenn Close. Oh, shit. They got a big cast. Damn. Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage are twins. so Sweet. Cool. It looks i feel like they did that before. Hmm. We got a new trailer for here. The new ah Robert Zemeckis film with Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, which is
00:10:53
Speaker
The movie where the camera will never move in the entire film. It sits in the corner
TV Show Comparisons & New Projects
00:10:57
Speaker
of the room the whole time. This movie is going to be so boring. So it's a play. Pretty much. Cool. Did you not see the trailer for that? No, I meant it. yeah yeah The camera lay sits in one spot and the world like ages around it.
00:11:10
Speaker
least smart Yeah, but it's three hours. Oh, it's a cool concept, I guess, but just do a stage play. back no Don't don't pour the money into making a film about that. It's got to be way more expensive. And nobody's gonna fucking see it. like No one's going to see that movie. um The Sims movie is officially in development at Amazon. Hell yeah, dude. It's gonna be so not boring.
00:11:38
Speaker
I swear, what was I just thinking? I swear there's a trailer I want, something I want to talk about. Why are they making a Sims movie? The whole point of Sims is to make like your own world and your own story. Yeah. So why aren't you making their own? That's, that's stupid. Oh, uh, Shogun dominates the Emmys. Yeah. Shogun's bear did really well. I got to finish Shogun. I watched the first episode in like mid August and then kind of forgot about it. Not to say it was bad. It was a good episode, but I just had other stuff. You know, show was bad. Still pulling at me though. Uh, latest season true detectives.
00:12:13
Speaker
Did it? Yes, Jodie Foster, one limited series actress of drama. Damn. A different man, the Sebastian Stan movie. That looks great. it It's officially certified freshman in eighty four. Yeah, that looks really good. Oh, I just realized what's his name doing when the Emmy, Walter Goggins. He went for fallout. Oh, yeah, I really wanted him to win. Who won?
00:12:44
Speaker
Probably Evan Moss. For supporting? Oh yeah, it definitely was. Probably. ah Jeremy Allen White pulls another Emmy from The Bear. Which I mean, very fair. Outstanding actor in a comedy series, even Lost Banchard. Outstanding supporting actor in a drama was Billy Crudup from The Morning Show. Jeremy Allen White. ah Oh, I don't know Lisa Colonzaia won. She's also in The Bear. Her.
00:13:10
Speaker
She won. Oh, she did. For her. Her episode was great. Season three. That scene with her and John Bernthal was one of my favorite scenes of the season. Yeah. ah Elizabeth the Becky wins for the crown. Good for her. she be She's I mean, she's perfect as Queen Elizabeth. Jessica Gunning wins for baby reindeer. The more and worse wins for Fargo. Holy shit. ah for ah Richard Gad wins for baby reindeer as well. Jodie Foster.
00:13:39
Speaker
Uh, baby e reindeer wins limited series. Uh, hooky sonata wins actor in a lead. Good. Of course. Good. Uh, Oh my God. I don't want to mess up your name. And a salt. Fuck. So I S a W a I saw. I saw.
00:14:01
Speaker
i I'm not trying. You dug this hole. you She was amazing. She's the lead in Shogun. Yeah. And she pulls the Emmy. Good. So sorry. I'm terrible at reading. I'm actually illiterate. Shogun wins best drama series. Outstanding comic series goes the hacks. And so any other ones that they want to show me? Nope. There's something I was looking at.
00:14:30
Speaker
Oh, I went and saw that fucking... What? Probably sounded great. Of this smack mic. No, it was this. like case Yeah, I know. It still didn't... Sorry. It doesn't matter. You know you want to know a movie I went and saw the other day? That was fucking god awful. What was that? I went and saw the movie Afraid, the AI fucking horror movie. Oh yeah, I saw you. Fucking terrible.
00:14:54
Speaker
why you generally one of the worst things Did you have any faith in that movie? No, I thought maybe there'd be some jump scares. Yeah, none. none There's one I saw it coming from a mile away, so I didn't even react. Connor did scream. Of course. I told Connor he needs to pay me for that movie ticket. I was like, you owe me my own ticket back. yeah Because I will never get that.
00:15:17
Speaker
It was so unbelievable. And you could tell that they used it. They definitely used AI on this movie. Like the Reddit? Like watch like the camera. Like me and you, if the camera was over there, you would see like people on the camera and you could just tell that one of them is not actually in the room. Yeah. Like it looked like they tried to blend like a green screen to the actual room, but this side would be all fuzzy all of a sudden. And they would like look weird on their outline. I was showing kind of like And then Connor by the end was like, damn, half these people are just not there. Yeah. It's like that. Um, what was that one? Like it was all the, I think it's called like the three five five or something like that. That all female spy movie. Oh yeah. It was like everybody from different countries. Yeah. The Chinese lady was never on set. So every scene with her is composited in on her screen and you can fucking tell yet. She was never with that. What was that? Uh, Zachary movie. Zombie one.
00:16:11
Speaker
I mean, the dead, the girl pilot. Oh, yeah. Yeah, because it was um it was what's his name. Yeah. And he turned out to be a not great guy. but Sean Watson. Yeah.
00:16:24
Speaker
But yeah, I think that's everything I wanted to talk. like Yeah, I can't. I'm kind of annoyed. I can't remember what I wanted to talk about. There was something there was something I thought I saw. And I was like, oh, this is something I want to bring up. Well, doesn't matter now. I can't think of it.
00:16:40
Speaker
So that's the, it right. That's all the movie news. Make sure you have national Batman day. bla Transformers one care less. Um, speaking of football, do you see your Monday Stevenson 0.3? Oh, you do. have because you got the Like and then 0.3. What makes you feel better? i off This week, dude, if it makes you have Isaiah for check on both my leagues.
00:17:10
Speaker
Starting running back broken fibula. Oh my god. I'm gonna get blown out. Actually megan's kiren is Horrific. I'm projected 94. He's projected 97. Oh, that's not horrible I mean you're both that's terrible. Really George kiddo's doubtful. Are you kidding me? And taste some hills questionable this is gonna end so well This is going this week is just chalked um Well, and then oh, yeah, we're here talking about the penguin that's the whole point of this episode. Yep. Well my notes And I hope the reviews I did pick up Brock Bowers though in the other league. Oh, that's a good thing. Yeah the penguin Do you want me to start reading
00:17:57
Speaker
Yeah, you got it. I got it. I got to fix my fantasy lineup real quick. So you just take it. This is way more important. HBO's new series, The Penguin, which is following Colin Farrow's Oswald Cobblepot. And this is a direct sequel to the Batman film. ah Matt Reeves is Batman's, what is it called? Crime universe. Sure. There's some of them. they Yeah, some universe name for it. But yeah, we're now getting the series to kind of see. It seems like we're going to watch Oswald become the penguin and become the mob boss we all know him from the comics, animated movies, ah Tim Burton's version, Gotham, all those versions but we're seeing him before that which is kind of cool and Colin Farrell of course looks fantastic with all the makeup on and it has a very
00:18:43
Speaker
Like, he's definitely doing his best Tony Soprano impression. yo Oh, yeah. ah Absolutely. I am enjoying it. And that's not taking anything away from me. And so far, people seem to be really enjoying the series. It has 8.9 out of 10. I have been 94% on Rotten Tomatoes with a 78 on Google.
Character Dynamics & Story Analysis in 'The Penguin'
00:18:59
Speaker
ah The first episode just came out on Thursday. ah It's based on characters by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, cinematographer Darren Tearman. And it's produced by Dana Robin, Nick Towne, Corinna Moritzko, and Claudia Farrell.
00:19:15
Speaker
And Matt Reeves. that list is a producer is he exactly i i he was an exactly exactly screen for last series yeah um And the first episode was called After Hours and it was directed by Craig Zobel.
00:19:26
Speaker
ah initial reactions ryan you've seen that be in the minority. So I'm gonna let you go first. I think it wasn't a bad episode, but I think it was just kind of like, it was really basic. Like it nothing really grabbed me so far about the series. I will say the opening when he just, you know, you know, this is it's the opening scene. It's not a spoiler. It's the entire show. When he shoots, what was the name Alfonso? Gilberto.
00:19:50
Speaker
Alberto. um That seems fantastic. That was great. I knew it was coming through. it I was like, yeah, you see it coming. Come on, dude. Shut your mouth. yeah And as soon as he starts laughing at him, you're like, all right, this is gonna happen. But it was still like, it was so quick and brutal. I really liked that. Yeah. And then the I don't know, the rest of the episode just kind of tailed off. Like it it didn't keep that kind of serious tone. It but it was definitely serious, but it kind of I don't know, it fell back into like more of a procedural type of show. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like it felt like it was just going through the motions, whereas the opening scene was like very like, all right, this is in this world. Whereas the rest of it kind of felt like just a regular old TV show. Yeah. And it felt more just like a mob series ended. I see that yeah with the
00:20:38
Speaker
with the series. but But I will say in terms of like being in this world and this version of Gotham, it looked great. Like Gotham is a disgusting city. I mean, it was it really it does a great job of ah the dressing, you know, the sets. um Everything looked good.
00:20:55
Speaker
Yeah, there's like one shot. And I think it's when it's the mayor talking that something like that was super green. Okay, you know, you know, the very beginning. Yeah, when they're recapping. First off, that way of recapping was the best way of doing it. I had a feeling that I thought they were just gonna show clips of the movie. Yeah, I liked that. They just did news reports of everything and the crime going up again. It was cool.
00:21:15
Speaker
But yeah, um, keeps it grounded. Yeah. The coverage of the bombing Batman helping the citizens. And they, and I like that they, they called him the Batman. They don't just call him Batman, like the mass vigilante, the Batman, uh, showing the effects of the bombing and that that it has affected Gotham's port sector so far. It has not really affected the rich people. Of course. Cause it's got nothing like what happened to them. Um,
00:21:40
Speaker
I said, I really like the, um, I love the lore so far of the mob that we see. I like that we are kind of getting like looking at all the families a little bit, even though we're definitely going to be following the Ronis and the falcones for the majority of the series. yeah But we know this is all the little gangs that are going to be there trying to make their own way in the, what's called the drop industry until whatever.
00:22:02
Speaker
i I wonder what the pack what it's going to be that comes in the shipment. I've been thinking about that. I don't know. Is it is it like some scarecrow gas? Could be. I thought about that. I was like, would that be where you? That'd be a shitty eye. Temporary scarecrow gas or like a joker venom toxin. Yeah, like something. Or it's just another drug. It doesn't have to be some crazy thing. Because I know he wants to keep it in realism. So I was like, what could He, because they said this leads into the movie. Yeah. What we're going to see. yeah So I'm assuming there's going to be, cause they said Oz is an all three. He's going to kind of be like an overarching thing, but he's not never the main villain. Yeah. many of them But who' who's the main, is it still Clayface? He is in this. I don't think he's the main guy.
00:22:45
Speaker
in the show or the movie? Okay. And that really hasn't said he's like, i yeah he knows who the villain is. And the guy who wrote it with him, he's like, no one else knows yet. Okay. I'm really excited. And it does take place during the winter. So maybe come realistic, Mr. Freeze, get Arnold back, give the man a shot. I think that I mean, that's, I said it when like we first reviewed the Batman really just after when he was talking about wanting to keep other villains. And I want Mr. Freeze, because that's like,
00:23:10
Speaker
Obviously, a very like crazy villain to have a guy who just freezes and has a fucking freeze gun. But at the same time, I think if you want to do the world like he wants to do, we're like you want to keep it grounded. But with a level of fantasy stuff to it, I think that's a pretty good feeling. Yeah, it's not totally out there. I really want them. I hope it's the quarter of Alice. I hope that's what the final is like that. Yeah, if anything, that'll be the the finale. That'll be the third. but The Joker's guys. you Where does he come into play? Yeah, I guess so. I don't know. We all know Ryan's opinions on Barry Keogan's Joker. I'm sure he'll do it, have a great performance. OZR from the start begins to collect dirt, find the dirt that Falcon has on people so he can kind of still keep working and working his way up while being able to use the judiciary system to his advantage.
00:24:05
Speaker
Falcun knew that Azwut has been skimming money off the top the entire time, which I thought was a really cool little detail that he just didn't care. Yeah. Like, that Falcun knew everything. Yeah. John Tatoro was so fucking good as Falcun. It was so weird seeing, uh, what's his name, Azm? I always forget his name. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So weird.
00:24:25
Speaker
It looked like it cut like it was a costume, obviously, but it looked like he was dressing up for Halloween. He just got the same glasses and a fucking mustache put on. It looked so far. I don't think he's going to show up very much, though. I thought maybe it was like a flashback, like a young version. I mean, he's dead, isn't he? I meant like in the series flashbacks. I know he's dead. He gets shot by the... Riddler. Riddler.
00:24:54
Speaker
Oh, Oz talks about Max Calabresi and what he had meant to the neighborhood. And again, just gives it more world building to who Oz is as a person, the timeline, how maybe in this world, the mob never kind of die like it does now. But Yeah, I really liked him talking about, because you see it a lot. And like, when people talk about like gangsters, like, especially like old time, Italian gangs, like those people helped their neighborhoods. Yeah, you're violent people. But they did try and do good. Yeah, they always try to get back. Yeah. So and then Alberto decides to laugh at the guy. And he puts seven shots in those checks.
00:25:32
Speaker
Dude, when, and I really liked the ah quick title shot. Instead of an intro, it's just the yeah title of the penguin. Yeah, it was cool. Cuts to the laughter immediately, Mike. Yeah. It's like I gotta lock in. The body game tossed down the steps.
00:25:49
Speaker
Genuinely made me laugh. I was waiting for it, because I was like, please just drop it. Like, it's just so funny. I was like, I'm not carrying it. I'm tossing it over for the legs. I'm like, best. Might as well. Why do I have to take my carry him if I don't feel it?
00:26:03
Speaker
um I had a friend of my dumb ass kids playing a dangerous ass game. Yeah. Damn. Dude, I thought it was Robin so much until the very end of the episode. And I was like, oh, that's the same kid. Damn.
00:26:19
Speaker
Because it has like before he stops and talks to Vic, the kid who's with him for the rest of the episode, it cuts away to like another kid running away. And I was like, oh my god, that's got to be Robin. That's got to be Dick Grayson.
00:26:33
Speaker
um or he's not our Jason Todd. Sorry. Excuse me. Excuse me. um Yeah, but then that doesn't work out. um That's the key you see later, isn't it? Yeah. yeah Because I went back and I was like, that' that's the exact same jacket and everything. so I like that scene. um We'll talk about later. Yeah, that was fun. That was a nice little dark move. So he talks to Vic. By the way,
00:26:59

I love, I love and hate the car at the same time. It's so much fun. It's like, why would you ever get that? I know you have money. I know you're kind of powerful guy. Why the fuck would you ever get that in Gotham? You're getting robbed every single day. I understand this has the little flashy. Yeah. Where's the purple suit in the comics? No, I mean, i absolutely. yeah I liked it. It was fun, but is also like Jesus Christ. So obnoxious. it is so And I love the Sophia brings it up to him.
00:27:28
Speaker
Yeah, purple, purple, purple car. He's like, it's more of a plum. Um. I like that Oz takes pity on Victor. It was very, it's supposed to be subtle. I didn't think it was that subtle. Um, cause he just stares at him for like a half second because of the stutter. And I think it's just because Oz was also picked on for his. Yeah. It's fucked up foot. Yes. Fuck the foot. I want to, I want to know if they're going to do that. He was born like that. Like how a lot of people do it. Or is it? Did he get beat up or something? Yeah.
00:27:58
Speaker
ah Nice little Easter egg with the Gotham Knights on Alberto's calendar. When he looks on the phone, on the one day it It's pretty cool. Nice little Easter egg. I missed that. I said I like the writing of the show. as like it feels like It feels like a mafia show. I was like i would like it to feel a little more serious. Not that I'm against like some funny lines every once in a while, because even the Sopranos has funny scenes. Yeah, Sopranos is half a comedy show, but it always knew when to cut and just go serious. Yeah, so that's why I hope they don't... like i'm I'm okay with how it was in this episode. I just don't want it to go too far. Yeah. I don't want it to keep going, then it eventually loses all that seriousness. Yeah. I don't think this is going to turn into a comedy show.
00:28:40
Speaker
Like at any point but you got to know when to like draw the line and just focus on one thing You know and kind of know when to blend them and know when to when to go with one genre over the other agreed um to to Oh, Oscar's to see a woman of a nice woman of the night that uses to get an alibi, which i again, it was nice world building, just showing how people are working because I'm assuming he's not the only person that does this. Yeah, it's smart. But you could tell that he actually likes her. Yeah. And then Victor finds it very funny. From there, we have the burger scene, which I actually really thought was funny with the pickles. It just made me think of the Sopranos. Yeah, it felt like a scene between
00:29:27
Speaker
Which one? The more Paulie? Yeah. Is that Paulie? He's in the woods with Christopher. Yeah. Yeah. It made me think of a Paulie and Christopher scene. Yeah. I don't know why I was like, I can just imagine them having the same discussion. Yeah. But yeah, very, I have Sopranos-esque written in here. Uh, Victor can convince his eyes to keep him alive and that he can do, he can be useful. He can be worth something. I was really like, please don't kill this kid. Yeah. He doesn't deserve this. Um, it was cool seeing I did love how, before you keep going, I did love how just nonchalantly Penguin was like, all right, look at this son for a second, buddy. He wasn't even trying to hide it. It was so funny.
Mob Themes & Batman Universe Connections
00:30:11
Speaker
Also, do you think this is for solely the reason his name is Victor? Victor's as?
00:30:20
Speaker
I don't think so, but it's just literally, it's only the name, but at the same time. And the episode is about him cutting. Yeah. I don't know. That'd be a nice little thing. He named a guy a certain name for a reason, I guess. Yeah. You never know. That'd be pretty cool. Yeah. I would not mind Victor's eyes showing up in the Batman movie. Yeah. Such a cool little, little freak. He's so much fun in Gotham, because it's the guy from Barry. Yeah, Noah, Hank. Oh, it is. The bald guy. Holy shit, yeah. He's fun. And he's in the DC universe now. He's going to be on.
00:30:51
Speaker
Oh, yeah, he is playing somebody. He's the guy who can go. He's a ghost. But he can see like these demons and ghost man, Constantine. No, no, we're getting Constantine. We're getting Constantine too.
00:31:05
Speaker
Uh, like the writing blah, blah, blah, burger scene. Oh, I like seeing the drop and like kind of seeing how the drug stuffs are working. And I love knowing you learn about that. They still, they found 30% of the product now after the bombing, things get flooded, things get destroyed. It's just all sewage. Like that's so disgusting. They're like, okay. Yeah. Who cares? Give it a shit.
00:31:27
Speaker
um Oz is then called in by the family, which he explains that Victor could lead me to anything. It doesn't have to be about the murder. It literally could mean anything. Yeah. um The Falcone family wants Oz to shut down his operation with the drop and they want to move to Robin's Hill because it's a safer area and less crime, easier to work out and less heat, yeah which is a very good plan, but Oz just doesn't like it because it's his operation that's been taken from him. Yeah, they're going to take the power away from him, which is a big issue for him. yeah I love the guy, ah the one actor in that scene, the one who's like the dick.
00:32:00
Speaker
to him. The guy who's sitting down. Yeah, yeah love that dude. Everything he's in. no Yeah, Michael michael Kelly. That's me? Yep. Damn. And then it was um the other guy, James Maddio, immediately. i Every time I see him, I'm like, all right, the band of brothers guy. That guy's in band of brothers? Yeah, he's the Italian dude. He's the No, I don't think he was a medic. um No, the medic. No, it's a la skin ah white, ah like pale white dude. Yeah, he's the occasion dude.
00:32:27
Speaker
Oh, the short dude. Yeah. Oh, she's um he's great. The scene I really remember from him. Do you remember? um Yeah, this guy. Yeah. Yeah. I just remember the scene is a huge part of the like first half. He's um, the scene I always remember is him talking to that replacement guy who's like singing. And he's like, well, you shut the fuck up. This is why you get guys like me killed. Because you don't get like that scene always hits me. Yeah, I like that scene a lot. Such a good show. Yeah. yeah I do like an actual review of Band of Brothers. It's a fantastic show. It's greatest show of all time. Top five. It's the greatest single season of television ever.

Speaker
police soph and oz interact for the first time and i she has some sophia had some perfect mannerisms in this show like like the little twitches that she has and there' you can you see like right here titan yeah and i like when she's she's the one Yeah, I love when Oz turns around and he's like, he doesn't want to say like Arkham because he he probably thought like, if I say this, it'll piss her off. She was like, Arkham. Yeah, that's the place. I'm like, Oh, fuck. You're fucked up. God. um ah She wants to catch up with Oz, which is when she makes fun of his car and the color.
00:33:56
Speaker
Uh, as I said, I really liked the casting. Yeah. Uh, we learned more about Sophia and the how she was referred to as the hangman due to her serial killings in the comic. Sophia kills a lot of cops or anyone that helped Harvey then become a district attorney. She, I mean, I think it's nine people she kills, but yeah. And then she tries to kill Joker at one point, Batman stops him, whatever.
00:34:17
Speaker
But yeah, she's a she's in the comics. Is she like a big character? Because I haven't I'd never heard of her. I mean, she's only she's not in like a ton of comics. Yeah, it just like shows up. Yeah. I got like her. Like one big thing was like that. She was she was like a serial killer and Batman figures it out. I'll make this up during a dinner that while they're having dinner together, that he has been him and Alberto had the plan for the drop and like for the delivery and all of that. And he was surprised that Sophia was part of it and that he was kept in the dark.
00:34:46
Speaker
which you can tell she doesn't really believe him, which is a fair thing. I just obvious scares me because the mannerisms that she just like the facial movement, everything like that is really well done. It was something especially like reading the comic. Sophia is not something I ever thought of, but like the rehabilitated. It's kind of going to be fun. Maybe they'll show some Arkham stuff like and you hear that she was forced to strip naked all the time. Like Arkham's a horrible place, and I think we're going to start to see.
00:35:13
Speaker
Yeah, how bad of a place which is what why the Arkham series would have been so cool. I would have loved that series. turkeyie It would have been so grimy. Yeah. Yeah. But I also love this is the like the lunch scene, right? that we're talking about yeah I love when she's talking about um how Alberto would come and visit her. Because you know, it just humanizes you can tell it impacts penguin a little bit like I you know, he's not a super remorseful guy. But I think he felt a little bit for that. Like, all right, the kid I killed was not the worst dude in the world. He you know he had people he cared about. and he was also you know In that first scene, he was a dick to Penguin, but he was going to help him. you know He caught him stealing and he and he was like, you know whatever, I get it. This is the type of bucket type of guy you are, but you're good at it. um so I think he feels a little remorseful, but I also just love this scene because it it shows that
00:36:04
Speaker
So if he is in charge, like you think about it, she's probably the one who called her, who called him to the house to try and figure out why, you know, she knows that he was there, that they were both there at the the iceberg lounge. So she's totally on to him at this point. She's only taking him out to lunch to try to figure out if he did it or not. So I think through this scene, you kind of realize that and it's just really well done. I did enjoy that. And I also enjoyed.
00:36:30
Speaker
when she orders a new martini and it cuts and it's immediately there, refilled. That was very funny. And she's already eating the olives. Yeah, she's already eating the olives. I just thought that was funny. Yeah, it was a nice little cut. Yeah, I knew it, yeah. kind Yeah, I knew the air. Yeah. Because you could say it's like a cut, you know, the waiter just went back and got it. It's like almost the same conversation. Yeah, it's the same thing, so. I'll tell you something. It's the funny little piece.
00:36:59
Speaker
Oh, and when they finally are leaving and they're parting ways, she leans in, tells Oz that people had always underestated underestimated him, but not her. She knows what he is, which right away, you know, that turned Oz on. That man was, that man was into it. And then, um, I will say I was not expecting in the following scene for nine to five by Dolly Barton to come on. ah Yeah. That's what change of pace. Um,
00:37:25
Speaker
um Yo, that house that he that his mom lives in, that shit's from the Sopranos. Oh my god, yeah. I laid ground my nose, yo, that looks like the house from the Sopranos. Yeah, it's literally just Sopranos. I was like, look, I was like, there's no fucking way. Yeah. And I loved so much. It was so funny that the mom had the exact same accent. ah They were like, when anything with an O would be like, boy, you know, it's so funny. She was already better than the mom Sopranos.
00:37:51
Speaker
Yeah. Gotta hate that woman. But she's just as like- I like the actress, the character. She's just as like power hungry though. Yeah. Because she's obviously the reason for why Oz is so power hungry and just wants to be in charge of everything because that's what she wants for her boy.
00:38:06
Speaker
Um, I do. I did really like that scene. Yeah. The scene, uh, when she talks with the pills and talking about the boys in the bathtub, that was really upsetting. And you can tell it really did affect, uh, odds, which again, this is how these kinds of shows should work with these kinds of characters. Like you can humanize them. Yeah. But there's, he's, we all still know he's a bad dude. Yeah. He shot and killed an unarmed dude on the show. He shot at kids. Yeah. But like it's okay to still show that these are real people.
00:38:31
Speaker
Yeah, I mean that it's the same thing. Like I said with Alberta and Sophia, like when you would come and visit her, you have to humanize the characters a little bit to add to the drama of what happens to them makes you care about them. Even if they're bad people, you still got to have a little bit of humanity to grasp onto so you care what happens to them what they do. Yeah, so yeah, it's always good to add stuff like that. um I do wonder how much of the mom we're gonna see.
00:38:55
Speaker
I have a feeling it's not a lot. Yeah, I don't think it'll be a ton. But yeah, could be interesting. I did love when she saw Vic. It's totally like everybody's been not in that exact scenario. But when like, your friends like just stay there, don't talk to anybody. And somebody like sees you and you're like, fuck, what do I say? and other hi Sorry, I don't want to say I didn't mean to come in. But I didn't mean, scary. Yeah, sorry. and really I really I really do like the kid who's playing Vic. Yeah, he's not bad. and I think the This stutter was not great. like yeah He wasn't very good at it, but and everything else was pretty good. I mean, people do have that stutter though. But a lot of people, yeah like anyone I knew that had one like that, like my cousin had one, but it went away like once he got older. yeah I mean, Vicks was obviously more of like a nervous type thing. Yeah, because he was fine when he's not and freaking out. Yeah, it happens much less. I don't know.
00:39:49
Speaker
um I said the mother's intuition mother's intuition is crazy. She knew right away someone was up and this woman has I think dementia Yeah, it must be but she still knew that someone was up and i I like that. She is very much like Like she wants as just as best he won't like what you're saying power hungry. Mm-hmm Just as much he wants to be in charge. She wants him to be in charge Yeah, which I really like and I really like that ill ah'll Actually, I'll talk about the next part. I'll talk about what I was gonna say later. ah I One of my favorite scenes of the episode was the scene between Vic and Oz when Oz tell talks to me. He's like, I know that your apartment complex was destroyed. He's like, I know people like you. He's like, I'm like you.
00:40:30
Speaker
they just gives Vic kind of like confidence to do whatever do this job that we don't really know what it is yet, but it will come up later in the episode. But yeah, I like anytime there's another character like help someone, like talk to someone who's like, like these this is how you need to be because we're not giving these opportunities. So anytime we do get a chance, we have to take all of it. Yeah. Yeah. You got to pounce on what you get. Yeah. Really like that scene though. I like seeing Sal Moroni, which was really cool. And I liked that that I always forget to do his name, the actor.
00:41:02
Speaker
and Mr. Krabs. Really? Yep. Holy shit. I never knew that. Yeah. Um, but yeah, I really liked him as Sal Maroney and I really, really enjoyed the whole scene because Sal does not like the penguin. No. Like most people don't like the penguin in the all the mob world of Batman, the comics, because he's only in it for himself and money. There's nothing else behind it.
00:41:23
Speaker
ah But he has a plan to backstab at Falcone's and he wants Sal's help. Sal does not want to work with him until Oz, as he gets ready to leave, puts down the ring that Alberto had had, which belonged to Sal Maroney, which is a really cool little. Wait, did it belong to Maroney or was it? I thought it was a Falcone ring.
00:41:39
Speaker
No, it was a Moroni's ring that the Falcons took. And then that Carmine would wear kind of like as the last fuck you to the. Yeah. roy Okay.
Climactic Scenes & Colin Farrell's Performance
00:41:48
Speaker
All right. I missed that part. I thought it was just, I mean, it's still the same effect, but yeah, I thought it was just the Falcon. They just wear it just to. Yeah. cue them right Yeah. Of course. ah From putting him into because Falcon ratted on him. Yeah. The whole point, the Batman. Oz is returning home when Safiya and the Goons are there waiting for him.
00:42:07
Speaker
Again, I don't know why it just felt like a scene out of Sopranos, like Tony driving, and that's all I thought about in a big time. Can you imagine Tony Soprano driving a purple Maserati? Oh, man. His red Tahoe baby.
00:42:20
Speaker
um Then he's chased by them, and eventually he has to park the car. He's trying to get away. Gets into the trunk. Tahoe. Get a Tahoe. He drives a fucking Cadillac, dude. He's Italian. No, he definitely has a red Tahoe at one point.
00:42:35
Speaker
Maybe the red Tahoe, but he's usually driving that black. Yeah, later in the show. Later. Oh, no do you have a tan car in the beginning? I don't remember. No, I was white. When the two black guys tried to kill him. What are you buying, the oranges? Or the orange shoes? Is that when he fights them? Yeah. Yeah. I think that's why it's a red car in that scene. I thought it was white. It feels like a red, nott maybe not Tahoe ah suburban.
00:42:55
Speaker
But I'll keep going while you're looking for that. So funny his mom tried to kill him. His mom and Junior put the head on him. So fucking dumb. Oz then maims one of the goons in a fight, which called back to an air freshener scene, which again, I thought was pretty funny in the awkward conversation with Vic and he stabs you in the eye with it. Dude, when he gets out of the car, and he's like in the ring with the gun.
00:43:17
Speaker
I was like, okay. I was like, I'm down for this. And then the bus just comes out of nowhere and fucking smokes the dude. Yeah, that was pretty funny. All right. Here's the list of the five cars Tony Soprano drives. He drives a red 1999 Chevy Suburban. Ho, baby. Not a Tahoe. and It's not- I grabbed it myself. Oh, excuse me. Excuse me. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. And the all the ah the then drives a black Cadillac Escalade.
00:43:40
Speaker
ESV then drives a 2003 a white Escalade ESV and then he drives a 2000 Mercedes Benz and then he drives a 94 Mercedes Benz any tan car I was like that I just make that up I think you made up the chain I think the suburban just has tan seats yeah yeah is that the car is in when that happens the red one I'm pretty sure okay cool okay I'm not crazy pretty sure it's the red one yeah I that is seen like the whole car scene made me think of that yeah um I mean there's a whole
00:44:12
Speaker
This is just the whole fandom page of what Cars, Tonys and Brandos are doing. Dude, the Wiki fandom, have you ever been on that website? Oh, yeah. The amount of depth that, I mean, a Psy character who's in two seconds of something has now. Dude, the amount of depth on Wookiepedia? Oh my god. In Spain. This fucking clone could be in the background for two seconds and he's got fucking paragraphs. Pages. He's got an essay on what he did.
00:44:38
Speaker
um odds after the bus is hit and he waves to the kids which again just so fucking dark humor funny um he gets knocked unconscious and captured but i what what i was going to say earlier i want to talk about is i really like that odds is kind of like a physical threat Like he can fight, cause he's a big dude. Never in the, never is the penguin a fighter. He has his umbrella gun, he's got his goons. Not that he, this, not that I think Colin Fowls' penguin can fight Rob Pattinson's Batman. like Yeah, he's not doing karate. But like, he can hold his own. Yeah, like he'll throw punches or something, which the penguin never does. Or when he does, Batman like puts his hand down to his head and keeps him from getting close. Yeah. Um.
00:45:21
Speaker
Oz is then being beaten by a goon and being questioned by Sophia, which leads to a really dark scene. um But she's trying to, she knows that something, she knows that he... knows where Alberto is. And then this kind of then changes from about Alberto to her, which seems like some things that she's dealing with from Arkham still. Yeah. And she's just psychotic. Yeah. Once you go to Arkham, there's no rehabilitating. You're just going to get worse. You're not getting better in Arkham. I think Joker is maybe just like, just had like a mental disability or some mental issue that he had to get fixed. Goes to Arkham and then all the wheels come off. It's totally possible.
00:46:03
Speaker
How many times do you think Joker went to Arkham? Not enough. I don't know. God, Batman, just let him fall once. You don't have to kill him. God. Remember the whole line, i don't I won't kill you, but I don't want to save you. I'm going to save you. He kills him. I'm going to say that is murder.
00:46:21
Speaker
um Back to the show. Again, I thought Sofia was so Christina. The actress was so good in the scene again as Sofia. She just has this look to her that's just so creepy. And the whole scene was made even better with the wire.
00:46:37
Speaker
the wire saw around his arm. And then he's freaking out and they pull and she talks about his car. She's like, what makes it so hard is that it's a very unforgettable car. And then she brings in one of the kids that Ryan talked about earlier, who I thought was Robin. God damn it. And he's like, and Oz starts being Oz and lying. He says, you're going to believe that kid over me. And she's like, so he's lying. He's like, yes. He's like, should you touch it? Yeah. She just pulls out a gun and just shoots on the face. She was the young kid through this scream of like, no, wait. God damn. That was a dark scene all of a sudden. What was I saying? Blah, blah, blah. I was being, yep. Wire scene. And then while this is all going down, you see the wire really starting to dig through his skin and cutting him up. A car comes flying through the front gate and actually crashes.
00:47:31
Speaker
And she walks up to it and it's a brick on the pedal. Open up the back seat. Nice, nice shot of Alberto. Dead body without a pinky now. Yeah. Right. It would have been. And it screamed in there. What was it? Payback? What? No, what did it say? It said something scratching. I think it says payback, right? i would ah It said something about getting even. Yeah. and One of those ways of saying it. um Cuts back to a close up of Oz and he starts smiling a little bit. A little giggle. Yeah.
00:48:00
Speaker
That was the scene where he wore the prosthetic dick, right? Had to be. Yeah, had to be. Had to be. Very funny. Yeah, so funny that he he was like, pop guy I just made, I was like, dude, I made this for you. He's like, what? Why? He's like, I don't want to have that on his face. It's Velcro. Yeah, don't worry about it. That's so funny. I love what? Things like that. They probably just add like a little Velcro strip.
00:48:20
Speaker
maybe yeah and had to be doing imagine milk kelly they didn't tell ah fuck i feel anymore kristen melai and she just showed up that
00:48:31
Speaker
had to be so funny oh my god um So then we know the odds it's unplanned and that's it ended up being with Vic yes vickyy could handle you want victor cut off the head yeah and then him just explains like and know if you go from the front from the pack of food and it's like the the drakes tough the spines toughppper out of the milk yeah um which again, which just felt like a surprise conversation. Yeah, totally. And I just like that already so far, we've seen we're seeing backstabbing and all the things I want to see in this mob kind of stuff. And it just built more the world for Gotham. Now we have a South South to a marine to like, no, and it's just saying I'm more so. And then there's that white, the whole shot of Gotham, which Gotham, this world is so well done. It is yeah perfect. It just looks so cool.
00:49:19
Speaker
And then, yeah, I said, yeah okay, y'all got me interested for episode two. yeah Because I was also on the fence about it, because I was like, can this be good enough? that like yeah So I'm happy with it. i There were certain things I wanted more. I want more of like that scene with the wires on the kid. like I wanted some more dark sequences. yeah But they did. They went with the MA. They didn't shy away from cursing. They didn't shy away from blood.
00:49:44
Speaker
yep all thumbs up from me yeah same here i like you said like i i hope it leans more into that darker stuff just because like you know the batman movie it was pg thirteen but also like it was a dark pg thirteen likegged it pushed the line pretty well all thumbs up from you know, show the stuff that you can't show in the Batman movie. Yeah. So I hope they do lean into that. That was like my biggest gripe with this episode was that it, you know, it had those two scenes like that scene and the intro scene were pretty good. um But I felt like the rest of the episode was kind of just pretty run of the mill. Yeah, it was very basic to yeah television. Yeah, like nothing
00:50:28
Speaker
totally grasp me in to where I'm like, excited to watch the next episode. I'm gonna watch the next episode. I'm not disinterested whatsoever. But it was more so like, all right, you know, I'll watch this when I watch it. I'm not like, waiting till nine o'clock when it comes out. You know what I mean? Yeah, um this isn't like House of the Dragon for me. Yeah. Like, I'm, I'm invested, though, like, I want to see where the story goes, of course, could then it leads into the Batman, which is going to be my most anticipated movie.
00:50:53
Speaker
um I have five fan questions. And then we have some that we're going to do our recommendation of the week, and then we'll be out of here. So first question, do you think it was a bad idea not to have Robert Pattinson show up in the show, which has now been confirmed that he's not in the series?
00:51:07
Speaker
um I don't think it's a bad idea. bad thing Yeah, i I mean, you know, is there a way to bring him into this? That would be natural. Sure. I'm sure you could figure something out. But I don't want him to be like a main character in this. This is the penguin show. like let him That's what I agree. Yeah. Let him have his show. Let him kind of build as a character. Because like you said, he's going to be in all three of the movies. He's not going to be a main villain, but he's going to be a player.
00:51:29
Speaker
So yeah, let him build his own way and, you know, leave Batman out of it for now. So that when Batman does come back in, in his own movie, it's more impactful than, you know, how they, you see when they see each other, you know, not as much. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. And I like they just.
00:51:45
Speaker
And matt explained like he's like, you'll feel that he is the Batman's around during all this. Yeah. like You're just not seeing him, but his presence is felt. Yeah. I'm sure there's going to be scenes where it's like, oh, we sent out a couple of dealers that, the you know, the bat caught him. I'm sure they're going to mention that a couple of times in the show. You see the bat signal once. Yeah. um Like anything like that, which is what I like the idea of him not being in it. and He's still the whole thing is that he's the shadows. He could be there. And like, there's so many ways to go about these. and Exactly. It's it's not Batman himself. It's the idea of Batman scares criminals, which is so cool. And they that's what makes that new the Batman so good. That opening with the monologue and what so good. but He's looking at the alleys. It's awesome. So creepy. Of course, that was from Jeremy. Of course, number two is from Nick. ah Do you think the show is too much like The Sopranos?
00:52:34
Speaker
a little bit. Yeah, like but I also think you kind of it's gonna it was gonna be really hard not to Yeah, when Gotham is kind of that city. Yeah. And especially like Sopranos is the mob show. Like it's any mob show that follows it is going to have a little you can draw comparisons when no one does it. No one does the Italian like 90s 80s Italian mob because now the Sopranos is what it is. Everything's gonna seem like Yeah, it's impossible to have a mob show not feel kind of Sopranos ask.
00:53:05
Speaker
it's just it's not gonna happen so i think i i think they're kind of leaning into it a little bit like penguin is definitely his own character but you can tell it's so inspired by tony soprano and i don't i don't hate that at all but i you know I hope they don't lean into it as much as it seems like they kind of are. Yeah, like like I don't i get see like that's weird because I know people are gonna say the cigar. The cigar is something that the penguin does. like Yeah, that's always been his thing too. Yeah, like there's gonna be things that kind of overlap. Like it's a mob thing. There's only so many things the mob does. Yeah, it's gonna it's gonna intertwine at some point. Yeah, it's not something that's gonna like draw me out of the show. But it's, you know, just don't make other character i'm like, well, this is just a version of Christopher Moltuson. Yeah, exactly.
00:53:47
Speaker
Yeah, don't have like cookie cutter things, but there's going to be a lot of similarities. It's just it's just what it is. Yeah, it's it's the time off. Yeah, exactly what it is. It's Jersey Italians. It's going to sound identical. Yeah. um Next question. Are you guys going to do another Halloween themed episode? This question is from
Halloween Plans & Horror Recommendations
00:54:03
Speaker
Michaela. We can do one. I was thinking about we didn't talk 10.
00:54:07
Speaker
horror movies last year? Yeah, I think we should do top 10 worst horror movies. Ooh, that'd be fun. Yeah, that'd be really fun. That would be fun. I mean, this year, especially too, I mean, horror this year was outstanding. There were some shitters for sure. Fucking. Harm. What? The amount of horror movies that came out this year. That had been legit. Good ones. Did you shoot the trailer for that Samara Weaving one? No. I forget what it was called. It was like after the rapture.
00:54:35
Speaker
Like people went up to heaven and those who are left can't talk anymore And she's being chased by like a demon or something. It looked cool. It looks cool It looked kind of cool. I don't know if it's gonna be great, but it looked kind of cool. I forget what it's called So, yeah, we'll do another one the Kayla Hey guys, can you give me and my girlfriend a good horror movie recommendation each? This is for Eddie from Eddie. So I guess Good horror recommendation. Yeah, one from each of us. Let me go to my letterbox. Yeah, go to your letterbox, dude. I have so many fucking horror movies review now. I mean, anything's good. If you're looking for like a date movie, I feel like slasher movies are more fun. I don't know. it's It's different because like slasher movies are fun and then you get like paranormal movies are also fun, but in a different way. It's kind of what you're into.
00:55:30
Speaker
Changing one of my reviews. Oh, I'm sorry. Go for it. So I'm going to go with a movie that is still in my top five movies of the year. Speaking of movies that came out this year, they've been it's great. It's the first Omen.
00:55:45
Speaker
We were so fucked up. So evil. And the... I forgot the lead actress name. She was phenomenal. It blends demonic horror, body horror, cult horror, slashers. Like it all blends at some point. And it is genuinely a terrifying movie that I've seen twice now. And yeah, I'd recommend that. Or... Something a little more toned down. Oh.
00:56:13
Speaker
Didn't want someone to watch. I watched one recently that I liked.
00:56:22
Speaker
Fuck, I can't remember what it was called. You got it. Hold on. Hold on.
00:56:28
Speaker
The Poughkeepsie tapes. I'm kidding. Don't watch that. No, please. God, um I think I mean, I think the fur graving counters. That's a good one. It's a kind of investigation found footage horror. It's a good one. Yeah, it's not great, but it's enjoyable. And if you want some gore, go watch Saul X. Oh, that's got more in the violent nature. there's There's so many horror movies took that you can watch, but ah yeah my top one is definitely the first element. Yeah. The photography is great. Acting is great. Don't watch afraid, though.
00:56:58
Speaker
Yeah. By the way, that, um, some more weaving, it's called Asriel. Oh, I saw the poster. It looked dope. Yeah. It came out in March. We already came out. Yeah. And I i just saw a trailer for it on Instagram. So maybe it was like a small initial release. Yeah. mean it was a Maybe it's like, don't have someone Um, 73 rounds i of eight Oh six one IMDb. It's a very good school though. Yeah, it's decent. So it's an hour and 25. Perfect. So like, I'm sure it's just a fun movie. It's, it's her not talking and just running away from a demon in the woods. It's probably fun. Try scare. Um, I don't know. I mean, runtime
00:57:36
Speaker
I mean, the Halloween's are always classic. I just watched the original and the 2017 one back to back. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Both of those are great. I mean, Halloween's coming up, watch those. The common drink movies are always fun. You know, I love being insidious movies. They're just fun. There's so many good, fun ones. There's so many classics out there. Yeah, like the easier one. If you don't want to be up... Actually, I'm not gonna lie, Insidious has some scenes that make me want to stay up and Make it hard to sleep in the scary ones. But I mean, like half of the ones that came out this year were pretty good, though. Like, yeah, we're going to be with the devil late night with the devil. Yeah, I still got to watch that. I want to see that so bad. It's it's late like a ninety five until the final to the end, he said. Yeah. So I guess Malachin is fantastic. oh He's awesome. He's so much fun. The the young girl. Yeah, she was great. No, the movie's awesome. Into Darkness, which came out like a year ago in like a tiny release, but then came out again this year.
00:58:28
Speaker
it's um It's like Native Americans fighting some creature. And it was so scary. Really? Yeah. Yeah. I watched Prey the other day. Had you not seen it? I hadn't seen it yet. Really? Yeah. Did you like it? It was good. Yeah. It was good. it It wasn't as good as people made it out to be. like Not quite as good, but it's still a good movie. I forgot. The reviews are kind of insane. The reviews are like 95. It's not ridiculous. It's the best Predator movie. It's fun. and thats Yeah, it's really good. i I think it's below Romulus for me, though. I really like the end of Romulus. Yeah.
00:58:57
Speaker
I saw the end of that movie. I've thought about that creature. Yeah. Way too much of my life. Yeah. Yeah. This is better than pray. Yeah. Sure. Well, pray was a good movie. There may be a sequel to pray. Are they? with ah It's in the future this time. And it's. Praise. With a Z. Diddy's in it. Oh, God. Last fan question now.
Spin-off Ideas & Marvel Speculations
00:59:21
Speaker
If you have any Batman villain get a show in the review universe, like the penguin, who would it be and why? It's just from Drew.
00:59:32
Speaker
I mean, man that I do. I'm upset. He's my second figure villain. It is. He is just a fun villain, but not actually. I wouldn' have i wouldn't mind like.
00:59:44
Speaker
doing like a just Gordon hunting down like a victor's ass. I was just basically zazz now that it's in my head. Like maybe not have zazz as the main character him be the villain would be fucking cool. Jeffrey Wright trying to hunt it down. Yeah, that'd be awesome. Yeah. I like Victor's as a lot. He's so like zero. He's just a fucking nut job. Oh, like i That Arkham show is what I would have wanted. yeah I think that show what it could have been so cool. So she found something to make it, because they said it was going to be hard joke yeah a Just super grimy looking. Like like the Saw movies, like how they all of that look. I would have loved for it to like look like that. yeah Fully lean into it. I think that there's not as many like Batman villains that can get their own show. You've got to pick the ones that aren't as like outlandish.
01:00:31
Speaker
Because the whole thing with Batman is killer. just Yeah, that'd be ridiculous. Like the whole thing with Batman villains is that they're so out there that you need Batman to balance them out. Batman is so serious. I think Penguin is one of the ones that works or even like maybe Riddler show would work. But like like Joker works though. Yeah, Joker's Joker. I think there's so much about you. You don't need a show. Yeah, you don't need like a just Joker shows and i was too yeah yeah crow yeah horror show. I mean, there's There's things that make you see things. There are drugs like that. Totally. Well, that'd be terrifying. I hope you do scare. I love scarecrow. challenge ah Talent would be cool. But then it would kind of ruin the whole hiding of the courthouse.
01:01:15
Speaker
ah hush me I know. I still feel like he's going to show up too. But but how are you going to do that? He gets surgery a little late. Looked like Bruce Wayne. Yeah. Just got two rye pans and Mickey 17. But yeah, that is the that is the last of the fan questions. And now we're going to do a recommendation of the week. Ryan, what do you recommend to everyone?
01:01:45
Speaker
Honestly, I've been playing video games a lot recently. I want to recommend Far Cry Primal. Just played it. it's not like I'm not going to say it's a fantastic game. But it's very fun, and it's a good change. like I love the Far Cry games because they're just fun. like They're never like fantastic, but they're fun. um This one was fun in a different way. It's a very different Far Cry game because there's no guns in it. like Nighttime is actually a different game because all the predators come out at night, and it's harder to actually survive. It's more of like a hunting that game than it is just killing people, but killing people is also really fun.
01:02:20
Speaker
um It was just a fun game and massive change for Far Cry that I actually really liked. So it's too Far Cry primal. Those last two of Far Cry have been so bad. New Dawn and Six. Six. Well, New Dawn was one of the like... It was like a DLC mode. Yeah, it was like a half game. It was horrible that the health bar thing that they tried to do. Yeah, I didn't play that one. The bad guys had like health bars. Yeah. So stupid. but Dude, fucking Black Ops 6 Zombies bringing back, like, have you seen that? it's only the I thought it's only the one map. I thought the one is like round based together.
01:02:49
Speaker
Is it? OK, good. Yeah, it's like the main map. But then it's like there's going to be a story mode one, like a story. OK. One that's round based. All right. Make sure. Because all I've seen is the I guess I've seen the story mode one where it's like the zombies of health bars and shit. I don't like I don't like that at all. recommendation.

You know, go watch the Batman movie so good. It is some of the best cinematography of the 2020s already. It was a Frazier. Greg Frazier. And then they got, what's his name? Did the music. you know What a fucking team they put together on that movie. Absolute dog, Michael Giacchino. Yeah, go watch the Batman. And then go find another mugo duke ah Michael thing. Go watch Werewolf at Night. Probably one of the best thing Disney's put out in the last like five years. Yeah.
01:03:38
Speaker
love werewolf at night. That was so good. It was such a nice little like, it was fun. Like an hour and 10 minutes. Yeah, it's just a nice little black and white and special it show blood. It got violent. Yeah. Good time. And then the end with a man thing. Yeah, man thing just sitting there with them listening music. Yeah. I think that'll ever come back. Yeah. I have a feeling they're gonna show up.
01:04:01
Speaker
It would, I would be more, more likely. I think it will be that swamp thing shows up in DC before he shows up in MCU. Yeah, I have that same feeling. ah the Um,
01:04:14
Speaker
um yeah, maybe if they do like a midnight sons thing with, if they ever bring back, um, Dane Whitman. from Returnal, Kid Harrington, Black Knight. Was that happening? I don't know. Because remember the post-credits scene in Eternals, was him finding the sword, and it was Blade saying, like, you ready for this? That Blade movie was never coming out. I've officially. yeah
01:04:37
Speaker
I will pay one of our followers $10 if Blade comes out. All right. It's never coming out, so. Which follower? I don't know. We're randomly. Oscar, send him your Venmo, dude.
01:04:49
Speaker
Oscar, what's up? I'm going to be 27 by the time Blake comes out. It's never happening, but. It's the flash of the Marvel universe now. Yeah, yeah. No, I think, and I don't know, I would kind of like to see a Midnight Sun's thing, but it's always, you know, it's always a different group. I've never seen Moon Knight come back. I still like the meme. Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider.
01:05:10
Speaker
Yeah. Blade. I don't even need all those. Do like, I mean, if you want to do it- Cut Doctor Strange out. How they were kind of setting it up. Moon Knight, Blade, Black Knight, and then do Werewolf by Night and Mad Thing. Daredevil. That's a fun team. Throw Daredevil in there in the black suit with the red eyes. Yeah, sure. If you want to. I think that's a fun team you can do. That's a fun team. Yeah. All violent guys. Moon Knight's never coming back either.
01:05:32
Speaker
No, I don't think so. Especially, I mean, it sucks because the end of that show showed, um, what's his name? Like the main killer guy. Um, like the third personality.
01:05:43
Speaker
Remember the very end of that show? He popped out as the cab driver. I don't remember his name. I bought a mobile item because I remembered it back then. Fuck. I hope they bring back Moon Knight. I hope they bring back all those characters. Moon Knight is one of my favorite things. The show, I didn't love a lot of the aspects of the show, but I liked Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight. I liked the look of Moon Knight. Steven was really cool to see. Mr. Knight.
01:06:11
Speaker
yeah and now that like you know Deadpool was rated R. That did great. People loved it. Do I think Deadpool is going to be a main MCU character? No. But I hope that opens the door for Disney to make more R-rated stuff. You don't need Moon Knight to be R-rated, but at the same time, if you want to do that, you could do some cool stuff with it. Same with Blade, obviously. Blade has to be rated R. I will be furious if they eventually be like, oh, it's PG-13. Yeah.
01:06:40
Speaker
i mean You got to do a lot of different stuff. But I think I really hope that opens the door for more Marvel characters, more of those types of Marvel characters to come in and, ah you know, make their stay. Not even not even be like a main thing. Like, I don't have to see them show up in a fucking Avengers movie. I don't even care if they show up in the Secret Wars or some shit. Just give them like a show and have them go on an adventure and make it fun. You know,
01:07:09
Speaker
it all comes down. a
01:07:12
Speaker
God, please be good. Please be just fucking decent. Oh, man. March of 2025. Just don't suck. Please. That's all I want. That's all I need. Such low standards now. Don't suck.

Rocco Rocco lost by like five. So if he called that or scored a touchdown, he would Rocco would have won and the Eagles would have won. And neither of those happen. Well, let's go Phillies. Let's clinch the NLEs today. ah We and as I said, we'll be back next week. much Penguin episode two. And yeah, I think he's down to two wins. That's one. The two.
01:09:54
