All right, welcome back to Mamas Who Lead, that the podcast where we believe women are made for more, created for impact, and called to lead boldly every season of life. I'm your host.
00:00:12
Speaker
Lori Carrafino, and today we're diving into something i know every one of us faces, and that is overwhelm. Believe me, I was there this last month. And I don't know about you, but there are days I feel like I'm juggling 50 things at once or ah thousand things at once, if you will, like from leading my business, showing up for my family,
00:00:35
Speaker
Managing the details of everyday life. And it feels like there is just not enough time or me to go around. So if you've been there too, then today's episode is for you.
00:00:46
Speaker
So today we're going be talking about mindset shifts that help moms and women in leadership, not just survive, overwhelm, but actually lead through it and with strength and clarity.
00:00:58
Speaker
i know, right? This is, we can do this. Let's start with the truth. Overwhelm isn't a sign that you're failing. Please remember that it's not a sign that you're failing.
00:01:09
Speaker
It's a sign that you're human. And instead of letting it define us, we can use it as a tool to reset, refocus and move forward. So i want to share some three practical mindset shifts that have helped me and that I believe will help you too.
00:01:26
Speaker
So mindset shift one is overwhelm is a signal. It is not a sentence. So when you feel overwhelmed, your first thought might be, i can't handle this. I'm not enough.
00:01:37
Speaker
But what if instead you saw it as your body and mind sending you a signal? A signal that says, hold up, wait a second, pause, breathe, take a deep breath, let it out.
00:01:53
Speaker
There's something that's going on that kind of needs attention.
00:01:59
Speaker
So for me, that signal came when I realized I needed a mental health break. um from everything really from showing up on social from, because it's a lot today, like a lot, like people are chasing fame and I don't want to be a part of that. Like i I didn't start that for that for, I didn't start Mama Sue lead for that. I started it to make an impact.
00:02:22
Speaker
You know, I felt like i know a lot of things that I could share and help others get through it, maybe similar circumstances. And so Mamas Who Lead, that's where this was born out of to, you know, make an impact. And, and, you know, I, I was just, I've been overwhelmed. You know, I made a choice a couple of years ago and that choice was to resign from my network marketing company, company that i had been with. I built a community. I love the team I was with for a multitude of reasons why I left. And, um,
00:02:57
Speaker
it what that transition was really hard. And I still struggle with that because you kind of lose, I thought I'd lost my sense of purpose. And I'd shared on um earlier episode that the opposite of depression isn't happiness, it is purpose. And so I was i went deep in depression because I felt like I'd lost my purpose.
00:03:21
Speaker
And I'm like, I can't, I want to be happy again. And I want to find that purpose again so I can be happy again. And so that's where this was born from. And, um you know, i wasn't quitting during that time, but it was a struggle bus. It was so hard. You know, I wasn't giving up and,
00:03:43
Speaker
over the time I realized I needed to take a break. And when things became a little bit overwhelming and everything was coming at me, like I need to pause and that is okay.
00:03:55
Speaker
We need to do that. And when I was doing that, was just simply listening to the signal that told me I needed to rest and reset. And it's okay. You are in control of your business and You are the one.
00:04:12
Speaker
you don't need to show up for anyone. This is your business, your purpose, your impact. And if you are feeling the weight of overwhelm, instead of pushing harder, ask yourself, what is the moment trying to tell me?
00:04:32
Speaker
So that you can, you know, is it rest? Is it pausing? But listen to that. And then do that. The mindset shift two ah small wins are still leadership.
00:04:47
Speaker
So we often think leadership has to look like this big and bold, launching new projects, scaling the business, hitting this huge milestone or this huge rank if you're in network marketing, multi-level marketing, um you know, or you know, getting this massive sale or, um you know,
00:05:08
Speaker
um you know, do do we do whatever it is, doing this big bold move, right? But here's the reality. the The small consistent wins are what actually move us forward.
00:05:20
Speaker
So on days when, um you know, I feel like everything is too much, I remind myself, what is one small win i can claim today? What did I do? Did I make my bed? Yes, I did.
00:05:32
Speaker
Okay. That is something that's a win. um Because some of these there was days I didn't feel like even doing that. I didn't even want to get out of bed. So maybe you can resonate with that. You know, and sometimes we need to do that. We need to take the day to Netflix and chill.
00:05:46
Speaker
Right? So it maybe it's sending that, you know, one email to your list. Maybe it's showing up for a meeting with the full presence. You know, there's been times when I've shown up and I really shouldn't have. I should have taken a ah me day and they were just not ready for the Laura that was there that day. I wasn't ready for her. So, you know, you need to do that. And only you know that, right?
00:06:13
Speaker
So maybe it's just taking the five minutes to breathe and reset before walking into your kids' rooms, right? um Picking them up from school. Take that moment while you're in that dreaded car line and gather yourself before the kids get in the car.
00:06:27
Speaker
You know, these small wins add up and they remind you you're still moving forward, even when it feels very slow. And sometimes it can in business.
00:06:38
Speaker
Um, You know, i take out a note. If you have a smartphone, Apple phone, the note um app, and just write your small wins so that you can look at it and be like, oh, and remind yourself what you've done.
00:06:50
Speaker
You know, write the small things down so that you can cheer yourself on throughout, you know, the times that you need that reminder. And mindset shift three is anchor back to purpose.
00:07:04
Speaker
Overwhelm thrives when we forget why we started. That was me. that was me but That was me over the last three years trying to figure out Why am I doing this? What am I doing? Why did i why did I walk away from a six figure monthly income?
00:07:23
Speaker
Hmm. Many people ask that, but your purpose is the antidote, right? You know, when I'm drowning in tasks, I asked myself, who am I doing this for? What impact do I want to create?
00:07:41
Speaker
So when you anchor back to your purpose, You're helping women rise into leadership, leaving a legacy, you know, you're leaving a legacy for ah your kids.
00:07:53
Speaker
You know, you're suddenly the noises fade and it doesn't make the workload disappear, but it kind of gives meaning to the work. and meaning is what is keeping us moving forward.
00:08:07
Speaker
So let's pause here. i want you to think about your own life right now. Where is overwhelm showing up? What is the signal it might be sending to you?
00:08:17
Speaker
And what is one small win you can claim this week? You know, I want you to write it down, get that note out app out and um type that in.
00:08:29
Speaker

00:08:57
Speaker
So friend, you know, overwhelm doesn't disqualify you from leadership. In fact, learning to lead through overwhelm is what makes you stronger.
00:09:08
Speaker
You know, i you know, I feel like God allows us to walk through fire so that our story is so much more impactful to help others.
