Introduction to Building a Brand and Niche

00:00:00
Speaker
Okay. Welcome back to mama city lead. I'm your host, Laura Carafino. And today we're talking about something, every woman building a business online needs to hear, and that is how to build a brand and why finding your niche changes everything.
00:00:17
Speaker
Don't mind the toddler in the background. You know, i am all about us working and Sophie comes just, you know...
00:00:26
Speaker
little one here but you know what i still the need to do what i got to do and he's entertained right now too so we make it work here um in sophie comes in just you know Maybe I'll edit it out. Maybe I won't.
00:00:41
Speaker
um Probably won't actually, honestly, because you need to hear the real life. Like we're we're all doing this so from the comforts of, um you know, our everyday lives.

Importance of Brand Clarity and Engagement

00:00:51
Speaker
So anyway, well, if you've ever felt like your content is all over the place or like no matter how much you post, people aren't engaging or buying,
00:01:02
Speaker
And let me tell you, there are so many different reasonings why that could be happening too. But it's also, chances you haven't nailed your brand, your brand voice, your niche.
00:01:15
Speaker
And I know you may hear that quite often, but it is so important to have narrowed down your niche, who you're talking to. And and without that clarity, it's easy to feel really invisible, right?
00:01:29
Speaker
And with so much noise online, that And this is one of the reasons why i kind of went to the podcast, because I believe that podcasts are up and coming again. And this is a piece of content that is going to be online forever.
00:01:46
Speaker
You know, whenever you post on social social media, now, you know, give or take that information. is needed, but, um, you could do it without it too. And I could talk later on some more episodes on how to really build your brand without even being on social media. I know that's a wild concept, but believe me, it works.
00:02:05
Speaker
Um, but whenever you're building this, you know, your brand online and, um, you're, you're wanting to narrow down um, your niche. And especially, you know, like I was saying, like social media, it can be a little tricky navigating, but it is what happens is whenever you

Challenges of Social Media Visibility

00:02:27
Speaker
put on, you know, some content on social media, it's life is usually about 24 hours.
00:02:35
Speaker
And then during that 24 hours, if you don't have the right niche narrowed down, even your followers, probably, i think it's, forgot the exact number, but it's about 1% of your followers are going to even see that content.
00:02:51
Speaker
So it's very important that you really have narrowed down who you're talking to. so you can have that brand visibility visibility and, um you know, I can talk about other content that's out there that's more visible and you don't have a lot of ah competing factors that you're competing for views with. And one of those vehicles is podcasting. So here is a little plug for my newest programs called

Introduction to 'Launch the Mic' Program

00:03:17
Speaker

00:03:59
Speaker
And I would love to walk with you on that journey. So go ahead, go to my website. I'll share it in the um show notes as well. But back to building your brand inner

Understanding the Essence of a Brand

00:04:12
Speaker
niche.
00:04:12
Speaker
You know, building a brand and choosing a niche doesn't have to be complicated. It's just, it just has to be really intentional. And we're going to, I'm going to talk with you a couple of um reasons why that and what you need to do and how you, how you actually go about that.
00:04:28
Speaker
You know, your brand is the story people tell about you. Right. Your brand isn't just your logo, you know, pretty fonts, all that, you know, that helps. Or, you know, the colors on your Instagram feed or your immaculate ah Instagram bio.
00:04:43
Speaker
Those are important, but they're not the heart of your brand. Your brand is what people feel when they interact with you. It's a story they tell about you when you're not in the room. Right.
00:04:56
Speaker
So do you inspire them? Do you educate them? Do they trust you That's branding. And the clearer you are about what you stand for, the stronger your brand will be.
00:05:09
Speaker
Right. You know, and you don't have to have this huge audience either to have influence. As I talked on, um, the, an earlier episode and, you know, just take, for instance, like Oprah, Oprah didn't start the Oprah show with a huge audience, but what she did, she built an incredible brand with that influence that she developed and cultivated.
00:05:34
Speaker
And you can do that too.

Niche Focus for Audience Building

00:05:36
Speaker
Now, the um next thing I want you to think about is, is your niche will create clarity and magnetism.
00:05:47
Speaker
So if you're speaking to everyone, you're really speaking to no one. Have ever heard that? and You know, your, your niche is the specific group of people you're called to serve.
00:05:59
Speaker
And that, and the specific problem that you help them with and is the one that you're gonna help them solve. And the more focused you are on that, it's the easier it is for people to know, yes, yes, this person is for me, she is for me, um and she's gonna help me.
00:06:17
Speaker
So think of it this way, if you have like chest pain, you're not gonna go to like a um you know, a foot doctor, right? You're gonna go straight to a heart specialist, right? Specialists get chosen because they're clear, your niche,
00:06:30
Speaker
just like your niche makes you the specialist. So who are you serving? Okay. and your purpose and your niche is going to keep, keep um, ah sustainable growth for you.

Aligning Niche with Passion for Growth

00:06:45
Speaker
You know, the magic happens when your niche just aligns with your passion and your purpose. And this may take some time to figure out over the years and over the years, it's taken me a hot minute to figure out who it was and who I was serving.
00:06:59
Speaker
and If you only chase like what's trending or what looks profitable, you're going to burn out. And that's kind of happens quite a bit when people are trying, you know, chasing the shiny object syndrome or, you know, the next big, big thing, like, oh, you know what? I'm going to sell on Tik TOK and I'm going to be a huge Tik TOK seller and influencer on there. That can happen. Yes. Like I've always said, I believe in anything is possible if you put your mind and hard work into it, but What if you're you're not finding life and purpose in that? You're in you're you know just doing and doing and you're going to get burned out, right? If that's not who you're meant to serve, if that's but if that's not who or what you're meant to do.
00:07:44
Speaker
and may And it may bring you lots of money doing that, or it may not too, may wear you out and burn you out fast. But when your niche connects with what exactly lights you up and who you're excited to serve,
00:08:00
Speaker
you'll have both clarity and longevity. And you know, you know, the saying, you know, um, what is it with, um, you know, if you enjoy what you do, you'll never work a day in your life.
00:08:13
Speaker
You know, that saying didn't work. you know You'll be enjoying It's not like work to you. to It's a passion. It's a purpose. So that's when your business becomes really sustainable and fulfilling because you're lit up. You're excited to show up every day.
00:08:30
Speaker
You get up excited. um Now, don't get me wrong. There'll be days like, oh goodness. you know Everybody goes through those little humps. But overall, your joy and fulfillment is coming from what you do your purpose, and who you're serving.

Exercise: Identifying Your Niche

00:08:44
Speaker
and um Here's a quick little exercise you can do right now to kind of start finding your niche to get clarity on that. So the first step is to write down three things you could talk about all day long.
00:09:00
Speaker
What are they? Do you love to sew? Is that something you love to do? Do you love cars? Do you like to talk about cars? um I say cars because my husband...
00:09:11
Speaker
is a car fanatic. And he could talk about cars and watches all day long. Every type you can think of, every high-end designer, expensive um manufacturer for both and ins and out of them and why they're made certain ways. It's crazy, but he could talk about them.
00:09:31
Speaker
So what are those three things you could talk about all day long? Is it your kids? Is it arts? Is it crafts? Is it mental health awareness? Is it relationships?
00:09:43
Speaker
Write it down. Step two is write down three problems people always come to you for help with.
00:09:55
Speaker
What are those three power problems people come to you to help with? Is it creating, um, something, some graphics online? Is it helping with sales calls?
00:10:08
Speaker
Is it helping with confidence and speaking in public? Is it helping with matters with the children or relationship matters?
00:10:19
Speaker
Whatever it is, write it down. And then step three, I want you to look at, look for the overlap. Where do you see the overlap in those, those six different areas?
00:10:32
Speaker
Is there an overlap? That's where your niche is going to start. So don't overthink it. Your niche will evolve as you grow, but you need to start pointing.
00:10:43
Speaker
So your brand has direction.
00:10:50
Speaker
yeah and So, you know, you that this is a starting point for you for your brand.

Laura's Personal Journey to Finding Her Niche

00:10:57
Speaker
You know, when I first started on started online, which was probably about, what year was it? About 2007 is when I started really working online. And um I thought I had to talk about everything. I didn't really understand it. I literally, I like to say fail forward. I spammed a lot. I talked about all different kinds of stuff.
00:11:21
Speaker
And I started selling online online. or at least tempted to. And as I told you, as you guys know, my story started in direct sales and direct sales. Um, I started posting about my jewelry all over the place. That's the wrong way to do it.
00:11:37
Speaker
But I learned over the years, I learned through that process. I learned through that, you um, through failing forward, you know,
00:11:48
Speaker
and As I've grown, you know, I started posting about business, mom life, fitness products that I love and it ended kind of, kind of confusing people. I believe in a way like, what is she doing What is this? You know, but the shift happened when I got really clear on my niche and mine is helping moms build business with impact and leadership.
00:12:16
Speaker
So once I started transitioning over to that, it suddenly my content had direction for me and the right people started showing up. They started seeing me as a leader in that speciality. And that's the power of niching down.

Crafting a Clear Niche Statement

00:12:32
Speaker
So here's my challenge for you. two minutes today, write down your first draft of your niche statement, something like i help people. specific people do specific things so they can get specific results.
00:12:46
Speaker
Again, I help specific people do specific things so they can get a specific result. So it doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be clear.
00:12:58
Speaker
So to recap everything again, Your brand is the story people tell about you. Your niche creates clarity clarity and magnetism. It's going to bring people to you. you creates you as an influencer because you have influence as we talked on the last episode.
00:13:19
Speaker
And three purpose plus niche equals sustainable growth. You're going to be happier. You'll be fulfilled. So friend, your voice matters.
00:13:30
Speaker
And your brand is how the world experiences that voice. Let's get clear, get focused, and watch your impact
