EP 53: When Life Forces a Pause: Navigating Family Challenges, Faith, and Leadership as a Mom

You were never meant to hustle your way into your calling — you were made to surrender into it.

In this episode of Mommas Who LEAD, host Laura Caroffino sits down with coach, speaker, and author Rachel Nelson of Equipped Mommas for an honest, faith-filled conversation about raising the next generation and building a business — without losing yourself in the process. Rachel opens up about the season God stripped everything away, including a job loss from a false accusation, and how it moved her identity off her work and onto Christ. Together they unpack why "rhythm" beats "balance," how to tell when you've slipped from Spirit-led into hustle, and the lie of mom guilt that keeps so many women stuck.

If you're a first-time mom or a work-from-home entrepreneur carrying overwhelm, guilt, or comparison, consider this your permission slip to breathe, surrender, and trust that God has called you to both motherhood and business — in His strength, not your own.

In this episode:

 * Rachel's testimony and the job loss that rebuilt her faith
 * Why God is the ultimate provider — even when both she and her husband lost their jobs
 * "Rhythm, not balance" as a sustainable way to hold motherhood and business
 * How to recognize Spirit-led discipline versus hustle
 * Guarding time in the Word in a loud, unpredictable season
 * Finding godly community and learning to ask for help
 * The truth for the mom buried in guilt
 * What it really means to be "a Momma Who Leads"

About the guest: Rachel Nelson is a Holy Spirit–filled momma, coach, speaker, and author who equips first-time stay-at-home moms and entrepreneurs to rise above overwhelm and walk in confidence and clarity. She helps women embrace their calling to both motherhood and business — rooted in God's strength, not their own — without sacrificing their identity or intimacy with Him. With bold truth, biblical wisdom, and unwavering conviction, Rachel challenges moms to stop shrinking back and start walking fully in who God created them to be. A former D3 athlete and journalism graduate, she brings grit, discipline, and deep faith — reminding every mom she was never meant to do this alone.

Ep. 49: She's Graduating - but this episode is about YOU!

What does it look like to walk through the fire — and come out restored? In this powerful episode of Mommas Who Lead, host Laura Caroffino sits down with bestselling author, TEDx speaker, and trauma-informed occupational therapist Cristina P. Simmons to talk about the kind of resilience most people never show the world.

Cristina opens up about losing four children to a rare genetic syndrome, surviving a tumor in her femur that nearly cost her a leg, navigating infidelity in her marriage, and raising a son on the autism spectrum — all while battling severe anxiety and functioning depression from unprocessed trauma.

But this isn't just a story of survival. It's a story of restoration.

In this episode, you'll hear:

 * What "functioning depression" actually feels like from the inside — and why so many moms are living it without knowing it
 * How Cristina went back to school for her master's degree at 39 — in the middle of all of it
 * The miracle Christmas night phone call that changed everything
 * Why people-pleasing costs you more than you think — including yourself
 * How unhealed wounds become patterns in your leadership, your parenting, and your marriage
 * The 3 things every mom needs to hear about self-care, trials, and speaking her truth
 * What the vagus nerve has to do with your anxiety — and how to regulate your nervous system today
 * How Cristina's book Eat Your Feelings hit #1 on Amazon in five categories
 * What Soul Story Collective is and how it helps women tell their stories on their own terms

Cristina's message is simple and powerful: Pain doesn't have to be your prison. It can become your platform.

Ep 48. From Trauma to TEDx: How Cristina P. Simmons Turned Grief, Cancer & Infidelity Into a Platform That Heals Other Women

Are you doing all the "right things" in your business but still feeling stuck? Downloading the freebies, following the strategies, showing up online — yet something still feels off?

Here's the truth nobody talks about: the strategy was never your problem. Your identity is.

In this powerful solo episode, host Laura Caroffino — former Department of Defense contractor, military spouse, and mom of five turned 7-figure entrepreneur — breaks down the identity shift every faith-driven mompreneur needs to make before any business strategy will actually work.

In this episode, you'll discover:

✅ Why you are not starting over — and how to start FROM everything you already are
✅ Why being a CEO is a decision, not a destination — and how to make it today
✅ Why your faith must be your foundation, not your fallback — and what that looks like in your business

If you've ever felt behind, invisible, or like your dreams are just out of reach — this episode is your permission slip to stop waiting and start becoming the woman you were called to be.
