Team Overview and Past Challenges

Global Sports Podcast Network
So then let's get straight into it, Nottingham Forest head to the G-Tech at the weekend, currently sitting in a Champions League position after an extremely strong start to the season. This is of course the battle of the two sides, it came 16th and 17th just outside the relegation zone last season.
00:01:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
both of which I think it's safe to say, have improved this season and don't look to be involved in any kind of re relegation battle this time round. Let's look into the Team New Zealand, let's put the Newcastle game behind us. I do expect Brentford to ring the changes again with the likes of Norguard and Boonmo and hopefully make our dams guard to come back in. As I said in the last episode, I am a bit confused as to Michael Dam's Gas Limited game time of late. However, he did show, even when he came on against Newcastle, his quality, he's always looking to go forward. And I think he makes a lot of what Mbuma and Whistler put away this season. So I think he has got a big part to play in this one as well. I think having Norgar back as well, I think we're just a different team with Norgar on the side. I think his calmness, his composure,
00:01:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
his ability to guide others around him and make others around him better during the game is this invaluable and I think he will be required to come back in here.

Injury Impact and Defensive Strategies

00:02:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I guess the concern for the weekend is at centre back with Ethan Pinnock and Seth Vandenberg both potentially out. Ethan Pinnock, it's known that he hurt his hamstring.
00:02:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
i don't think it didn't look too good. I don't think we'll be seeing him in this one and potentially maybe not for at least a few weeks. Seth Vandenberg, it's not clear what happened to him because it happened and in the warm up prior to the Newcastle game. So maybe we'll receive an update before then. But I think we need to be preparing perhaps for a scenario where we are missing both of them for this one.
00:02:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
that means there's a dilemma about who goes next to Nathan Collins you would suspect it'll be either Christopher Iyer or Ben Mee and depending on who it is it will have consequences when it comes to the fullbacks as I would expect the two options in this regard to be either Collins and Mee play alongside each other which allows Iyer to play it right back in King Lewis Potter to continue at left back. The other option, I think, would be to have Mads Roslev come in at right back. And then that allows Iyer to shuffle across as a centre back with Nathan Collins. Feels a bit weird via team playing a centre back, but we have to remember he is actually a centre back, although he has played all of his minutes of Brentford this season um in a full back area.
00:03:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Those are the options in defense, I think. I don't think we'll be seeing Meg Homer yet, not least because Keanu is Potter, I think, has proven himself as our best option at left back at this moment in time, and also Meg Homer. He started to come off the bench in recent weeks, but I think he is still quite inexperienced, while very inexperienced, and I'm not sure he is ready for 90 minutes at home against Barq being the strongest side we face at the G-Tech so far this season.

Strategic Formations and Opponent Analysis

00:04:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
the other player that we had no updates on in midweek is igor tiago it would be Extremely helpful, he adds and another dimension to the front line if if he can be back in and he can be in alongside Whissa and Mboomo. Matthias Jensen's the other one who's been out and might be back in the next few weeks. However, I don't expect it to be for this one or Brighton either just after Christmas I think Brentford have to go with a back four again hit again here. I know we've played about five both away at Chelsea and Newcastle in the Cup. I would prefer Brentford to play a back four anyway. I think we've shown at the GTEC this season.
00:04:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
that we can go up against sides, even the likes of Newcastle, and we've done it very well, and I think Brentford have got to play to their strengths here, particularly with the potential absentees that we'll suffer with at the back, which may, in any event, force Thomas Frank's hand back into a back four. Not in a forest or a good side, but we should be confident, I think, get based on our own form this season, to go up against them and have nothing to fear.
00:05:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I don't think we should simply change what worked versus Newcastle in our last home game at the GTEC and if you look at the level of the two sides Newcastle and Forest, Forest might be doing a little bit better now but I think at the at the very most they're of similar technical ability. On the side of Nottingham Forest they are having an extremely good season as I said Chris Wood we'll be expecting to start up front. He is a massive danger. We've got to be tight to him in the box. He's also an aerial threat. He can score all types of goals and that's something we have to be wary of, particularly if the likes of Ben Mee are coming in and with Ben Mee's experience, I think I probably would go with him at the bat there, which would allow Iyer to play it right back. And I think what Ben Mee loses in pace, hopefully he can
00:06:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
make up with his footballing brain and his defensive salinity. Forrest also have a strong center back pairing of their own with Murillo and Milenkovic, both of whom have been on fire this season. They are extremely solid at the back. I think this will be our most difficult test in terms of going forward at the GTEC this season.
00:06:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then just to sprinkle on top of that, you've got the creativity of the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White, Anthony Alanga, and Callum Hudson-Adoy going forward. So, Forrest has spent a lot of money since promotion, so perhaps it's not surprising they've got a very good team now, but when I look at this, I think they are so well balanced. And I think that is why, well, that is the main key to why they are doing so, so well this season. And I think it will be a big challenge at the GTEC this weekend.
00:07:09

So then after the break, I'll be having a look back at our previous meetings against Nottingham Forest and trying to make a prediction on how I'll unfold on this occasion.

Historical Match Review: Brentford vs Nottingham Forest

00:08:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to part two of your Daily Brentford podcast with myself, Daniel. So let's look back then at our previous meetings with Nottingham Forest, particularly in the Premier League era. We have so far been unbeaten against Forest in the Premier League with two away draws, both the city ground and two home victories at the G-Tech.
00:08:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
The last of those victories will be remembered as Tony's comeback game. A lot a very big deal was made of that at the time. And also foam gate where I've been Tony for his free kick that he scored um to get us back into the game, I believe, because Forrest scored right at the beginning of that one. um He moved the foam that the referee puts on the ground um to judge where the free kick should be taken from. And he moved it slightly to the side and Forrest were very unhappy about that and blamed that for the fact that the free kick managed to go around the wall and into the bottom corner.
00:09:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Having said that and having reference to that, the two teams have come a long way since that

Match Predictions and Game Control

00:09:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
last meeting. um both Both teams doing very, very well this season. I think this will be a different challenge altogether, although I would not be surprised to see a similar scoreline in it being a high scoring affair. Brentford winning 3-2 on the last occasion. I seem to think Mil Morpe scored a very, very good goal for Brentford that day as well.
00:10:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
i expect forest to be solid. I expect them perhaps to allow us to have quite a lot of possession. I expect them to try and nullify our attacking threats, whether that's fruit and boomer, whizzer.
00:10:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Dam's Guard as well. I think they'll need to try and stop Dam's Guard because stopping Dam's Guard ultimately stops a lot of our attacks at source. I think when they get on the ball, they'll try and break forward quickly. They've got plenty of tricky wingers. They've got plenty of creative players who can get forward quickly, get crosses into the box of the likes of Chris Wood to try and get on the end of it.
00:10:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
like Like I said in the first half, I think they're an incredibly balanced side and there are no clear weaknesses. So Brentford are going to have to be on top of our game. And we are going to have to look to impose the star that we've, that we've imposed so well at the G tech this season and take the game to the other team and just be so scintillating an attack that it is difficult to defend. And I think we are a difficult side to defend. We need to.
00:11:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
see controller proceedings I think in the middle of the park where the likes of Ryan Yates might usually play for Brentford perhaps that's an area we could be looking and control the game from particularly if the likes of Norguard is back and you know alongside him do Brentford go with that extra man in the middle with someone like Yarmolier can then perhaps Dam's guard coming in off the left which will give Brentford that extra man in midfield and perhaps help us in how we control things or do we go with someone like Shada to try and get in behind their defense to give their defense another um option to think about because if you've got his pace and power you've got the finishing ability of whistle his ability to link up you've got Brian and Bumo doing what he does and you've got someone like dams gardening all together I think we can still be dangerous here um but of course as I said I would need to be wary of their threat on the counter and we need to
00:12:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
We need to create high quality chances because they are quite a solid side.

Fitness Concerns and Final Thoughts

00:12:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Once again, and I think we're repeating our ourselves from the Newcastle game here, I think this will be our hardest game at the G-Tech so far this season. It will be a test again of where Brentford are at, where we're still in that bit of a middle ground where we kind of felt like we're not good enough away from home, but we seem to be okay at home and we are getting to the stage of the season now where from January onwards we go away to the likes of Southampton but then we host I think there's a week in January where we host um Arsenal City and Liverpool are within a couple of weeks of each other so it will be interesting to see ah how our home form and away form relate to each other as the fixtures get harder at home and arguably easier away. So then that's
00:13:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
all apart from prediction time. So my concern for this one is that with some potential fitness issues, the likes of Pinnock who might miss out almost definitely will probably miss out the likes of Andenberg who might miss out. I do worry about the defense. I also worry about what if something happened to another center half.
00:13:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think, you know, then you are likely to see the likes of Rostev on the pitch. You are likely to see, um, perhaps Meg Homer forced into some minutes. Um, I also wonder whether GCU is probably the next center back in line from the B team.
00:13:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
he will probably be on the bench in his fear of the weekend and you never know if or when he may be caught upon. So that does concern me slightly, particularly um about the amount of one on ones we leave all over the pitch. I think the likes of Ben, me being left alone with someone like Chris Wood, it it doesn't fill me with confidence, although Chris Wood isn't the quickest either. um So I do think due to some of these fitness issues, due to the fact we've had three games in a week, although we have rested players, some players will be asked to play again. like And I do think it might be a step too far this time to get another victory at the G-Tech, but I can potentially see us nicking a draw. And I do expect the game to be full of goals. I do expect Brentford to be able to breach a forest defense, although it's a difficult thing to do. I think we've got to back ourselves at home at the moment to score goals because
00:14:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
we've been doing it with some regularity and although I don't think we'll score four this time as we have been doing recently I can see something like a two-wheel draw on the cards which is going to be what I will go with and my goal scorers I will go with Michael Damaskar because his game time has been limited recently so I'm hoping he'll have some fitness and I am going to go Kevin Schadler I thought he was fairly bright against Newcastle as bright as a team could be and I think we have seen flashes from him in terms of his finishing. um So I will go with those two I think Brian and Bummo may struggle a little bit more here to break down the the forest defense um and Whistler I think has had a lot of game time recently it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't complete perhaps the 19 minutes here.
