Injury Updates

00:00:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
so then let's get straight into the team news and unfortunately there is a lot of it and i'm only recording earlier on in the week this week so who knows if they could be more calm at match day fingers crossed there aren't as a result of injuries picked up at the forest game christopher ire is out and will be out for a number of weeks Thomas Rach in his press conference said that the injury is similar to what Wisser suffered against Manchester City. um Which is an interesting comment because we all know the tackle that Wisser was on the end of. I didn't notice anything in this forest game that I was on the end of and clearly he he walked off the pitch having been subbed whereas
00:01:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was clear that Wisser was injured in the City game when he came off injured. Maz Rossev, who was in trouble at the end of the Forest game with blood on his face, I think should be okay. I think um that is just that the reason he came off against Forest was simply because there wasn't time to to put his and face back together and stop the blood from flowing. So I think he will be okay to line up.
00:01:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
against Brighton and I think we'll need him to line up against Brighton with the injury issues that we have. There has been a fresh blow at the top of the pitch as well for Igor Tiago who has some kind of infection in his knee so I think his previous injury has cleared up but he has suffered with something else and it's not a good sign. I don't think when we have a new player starting for the club has you know three or four different injury issues right now that he's had since he's joined and It's not a good omen when we have people like Chris Viare already in the team who we know are prone to getting injuries more often than other players. um It's completely horrible for the players, but you know that there must be some idea when we sign these players, you know, regarding their injury history and how prone they are to injuries. And it's such a shame for Tiago because there's, you know, every threat that, you know, he, he, he showed a bit of quality in the games that he played.
00:02:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
but he never really got going. He never really, he never got on the score sheet for Brentford and it's just a shame that his season potentially could just peter out and he could never really maybe get going if if this continues um well into next year.
00:03:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um In regards to Ethan Pinnock, who came off in the Newcastle game, we're not likely to see him for a few weeks. I think that's a hamstring-related injury. Seth Vandenberg, who pulled out before the Newcastle game in the warm-up,
00:03:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
He is not meant to be far away, um but he is likely to miss the Brighton game. He may make the Arsenal game um in midweek, but it could also be too soon for him. Matthias Jenson, I've not really seen an update about him, but I think he should be one of the ones that also are not too far away in terms of the likes of Rico Henry. I don't know. Thomas Rank has not raised anything about him in press conferences, and I think It is really getting to the stage, especially given his age. He's not he's not too old. He's 27, but, you know, he is towards the second half of his career. He's had lots of long injuries before. And I am really starting to get concerned about this now, given that warmest in January, 2025, he was initially meant to come back a couple of months ago.
00:04:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
And even that would have meant he he would have been out for almost a year. And I think it's just a real shame. And, you know, is there a reason the club are being very quiet on what is going on? Is is is there something more behind this um in terms of Rika Henry and his wider career? And I think that is such a shame. And I think whether we do any business in January in regards to left backs in particular may give us a indicator as to what is looking like for Fariqo Henry, which is a real great shame and I of course wish him all the best.

Lineup and Strategy Discussion

00:04:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that's all the bad news out the way, I guess. um So in terms of the lineup, we're like to see against Brighton. Ben Mee is likely to continue alongside Nathan Collins in defence. Keynote Potter like to continue at left back. And I would have thought Mas Rossev will start into right back in place of Christopher Iyer. I don't think there's much scope of Brent for going to back five here. I thought about whether it's something you might think about.
00:05:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think we would think about it anyway, given Brighton's recent form, it's not been the best. I think we'd think we can get at them. um But I think without lack of options, particularly in defence, I don't think we have a real choice in that regards. I think with a weaker defence, with Mads Ross there and Ben me in there as well, who I don't think we're as good at playing the ball out from the back. I think we need the extra protection of um nor guard and you know both in there um protecting that back line so i really really hope i'm crossing everything that both of those are fit to start this game then i personally in a change to the side that faced forest i would have yarmole akin for this one um in for kevin sharda i think
00:06:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
I would want an extra body in midfield so I would play Jarmolia because the third midfielder, Dam's guard, if you look at a team sheet might be placed on the left but I think he will have he could have that role where he is maybe based on the left but he will drift inside. Keen Lewis Potter will be up and down on the wing on that left-hand side and I think That, I think we could see Dam's guard have that role again, where he is, has a bit of a free roll behind the front line, but is primarily, especially out of possession in terms of the press, et cetera. Um, more based on the left, I think just having that extra body in midfield with your Moliok in there as well. We'll help us to get aside that really like to keep possession, um, in terms of Brighton.
00:06:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now I say all that, I don't know if Thomas Frank will go with that, I suspect. But that is probably the only decision he really has to make given the um the issues of fitness. I think if everyone who you think is fit is indeed fit, I think that is the only change apart from Ross Levin for Aya that I think we're likely to see potentially be equally Thomas Frank could go with Kevin Chardot still on the left. But I personally would go for the extra body in midfield with Yarmole at in there who again looks tidy on the ball and I think with the protection of you know and nor guard around him if anything it will give him more license to go forward and express himself a little bit more and it will hopefully prevent Brighton from completely dominating that midfield and getting on the ball that they want to.

Brighton Analysis

00:07:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
um In turn that will also allow not just Carvalho but also Kevin Shada
00:07:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
to be an option on the bench in terms of an attacking change, if we really need to go for the game second half, if it's not going the way we want it to go. And I think that is something that's important. um If you're chasing a goal, and I think Shada offers a lot in terms of his pace, power, um heading ability as well. I think he can offer that element in the second half as as bright and tiring. um If we do need that goal, or if we're trying to even protect the lead and we want to still get the ball forward and offer a different threat, I think Shada can absolutely do that.
00:08:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
in terms of Brighton. They are always unearthing new gems, aren't they? But um it is the likes of Mitoma, Adingra, Minter, Jalpedro and CISO.
00:08:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
It paints a very exciting picture. If they're on their game, any of those can produce a complete moment of magic. They are always capable of excitement from that list. Perhaps Onimatoma and Ja Predro will start. Someone I do want to raise as well, which many might not be aware of yet, is Belabar. I think down the middle here is probably the next gem, and I'm recording this before we record the crossover episodes. We'll see what the Brighton and team have to say about this in the crossover episode, which you probably have already listened to you by the time you're listening to this, but yeah, Belay burp, I think he is classed down the middle, I think he is likely to be at the next gym that comes out of Brighton, so look out for him on Friday night. And also you've got the experience, especially in defence, the likes of Dunk, Veltman, Estu Pinane, who've all been there for a few years now, and
00:09:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
know what they're doing. I think if there is a vulnerability, maybe it is in defense, maybe for Bruggen in goal, um, who is also a Dutch. So him, him and Flecken are largely the two competing for the Dutch number one slot. Um, there could be a vulnerability there that could be slightly prone to a mistake at times. He is a young keeper. Um, and we know As we'll go on to in the second half, Brighton's form lately has not been the best and they have been a bit leaky at the back, but we'll go into all of that after this break.

Historical Match Recap

00:11:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to part two of your post-Christmas daily Brentford podcast as we are on the road the day after Boxing Day. It's a shame this year actually we're not playing on Boxing Day. I think it's a very traditional day in the English football calendar, but there is plenty of football to watch anyway.
00:11:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
on Boxing Day, which again would have already happened by the time you listen to this episode. Let's have a look back then at our previous Premier League clashes against Brighton. The only win we have had out of those came in October 2022 at the GTEC.
00:11:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
with an Ivan Tony double that afternoon. I think I vaguely remember it. I think one might have been a penalty and one was possibly a little flick from very close towards the goal, if I remember correctly. and It was a nice little flick from Ivan Tony for the the other goal. Aside from that, Brentford have had a home defeat and a draw at the GTEC and on the road they have suffered two defeats and a draw.
00:12:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
um at the Amex so it's a difficult place to go. Brentford have won there before in the championship but um on our most recent visit last season, Brentford actually took the lead again through an Mbuma penalty before he came off injured and it unraveled from there both in that game and our season as a whole and and I really hope that is not and a bad omen um given the latest injury record that we have and I hope we're not heading that way again this season.
00:12:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
um in terms of all the injuries Brighton do come into this one on a spell of poor form in their last five games they have had draws against Southampton Leicester and West Ham perhaps teams they are expected to beat and defeats against the likes of Fulham and Palace who are their local rivals well not local rivals but they have a strong rivalry with um in their last five games so I think you know arguably Brighton will want to be winning all of those games and they certainly would not have foreseen three defeats out of those five.
00:13:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
in three of those they've taken the lead and being paid back so that's that's a familiar story for us Brentford fans I think Brighton in many ways you know are quite similar to us and I think um in terms of our journeys to the top the owners obviously don't like each other between Brentford and Brighton but that's a whole separate story I think perhaps they can be got at I think they like to play attractive football they like to try and get on the ball and play but they have a young manager who's arguably a little bit inexperienced I think there is to an extent a bit of a soft underbelly there and a lot of what I was saying you know could also apply to Brentford so I think if Brentford are brave and we're forward-thinking and we're solid enough in defence
00:14:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think there is some joy to be got here.

Approach Suggestions

00:14:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's important that we're not overrun in midfield, hence why I would probably go with Yarmulik in there um for that extra body. I think it's it it could very easily be the case that they control the game, and we do we do not want that to be the case. We want it to be end-to-end. I think we've got to play to our strengths, and our strengths are are going forward, and even when we have a full team fit.
00:14:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So I think we need to try and take the game to them. I think we need to get the likes of Dam's guard on the ball as much as possible, spraying balls forward into Wisser and Abumo, hopefully running onto them and causing Brighton plenty of problems and you know just getting them back, getting their shape um towards their own goal, um I think.
00:14:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
is something that will be useful so I think equally they will have chances they have tricky players whoever is playing it right back which is probably going to be Roslev will have to deal with Kyra Matoma who's you one of the more skillful players in the division I think that will be a very difficult battle and one that he needs to um try and come out on top of defensively I don't think he needs to worry too much about going forward I think keen Lewis Potter on the opposite flank can provide that threat but Yeah, I think it will be a close one. I think it could easily go either the way. I think if you look at the fixtures at Brentford have coming up now, especially at the G tech with Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, the next three visitors, I think it is very important in that event that the away form picks up with this being our next away game and Southampton away coming after that. So.
00:15:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
This would be a great time to pick three points up on the road to give us confidence going to the Southampton away game. So I think this is a good time to play Brighton. um I think they started the season very well under their new manager. They're probably as bad as they're going to be now, which is still not very bad, but You know, that they are a very strong team and we know what they've done in recent years in terms of getting to Europe and we can only aspire to be at their level. So it will be, it will be another tough test. Um, in terms of my prediction, it's prediction time now.

Match Prediction

00:16:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to go to, to, I think I do believe Brentford will be able to create, even though we haven't been able to do that very much on the road this season.
00:16:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the way Brighton has set us up, I think they can be probably be got at defensively. So I think we will be able to create and I think we will be able to score, but I am worried about us defensively too, with with the injuries we got out. We like to be me having to play every three or four days over this period. um So I would be surprised, I think, if there's not a goal. So I'm going to go to two. I am going to go, in terms of goal scorers, I'll go with Whistler and Mbumu. I normally like to go for someone different, but you often find those two got on the score sheet together and I think the likes of Damsguard putting the strings in behind, I think Damsguard will assist at least one of those goals or at least come up with a pre-assist. So that is my prediction and that will be all for today's episode.
