Revisiting 2020 Predictions
00:00:21
Speaker
On this episode, we are going to kind of go over our 2020 predictions that we had at the beginning of this year, laugh at some terrible decisions that we made, and maybe add to it a little bit.

Speaker
last day of July. I haven't been outside since February.
00:01:36
Speaker
Whoa! Yeah, you had it right. Don't change it for the first time. Kasauz? Yeah, Kasauz. Bam! Look at that first time.
00:01:44
Speaker
Look at that. First try. He knew it the whole time. He was just joshing with me, guys. He just really likes spaghetti. And so he's always thinking about cassoss. Cassoss. Yeah, I want that sauce. Oh, they made me hungry. How's it going? I've seen you... We'll talk about some VR later, man. I've seen you be on the PSVR for the first time in the last couple of weeks. My awesome community actually gifted me over and just one day showed up at my door with Iron Man VR.
00:02:16
Speaker
Oh, did you enjoy it? Was it the best thing ever? Because I played the, I played the demo. He played it in January. I saw, but I saw you on, uh, I saw you on beat saber. You can't beat beat saber. No, literally. I can't beat beat saber. I suck. My girl loves it. She like, I'll be in here like editing some film and stuff and she'll be in here. I could just hear like,
00:02:41
Speaker
Cuz there's like fit beat where she has to like dunk like move left right jump and it's insane the stuff video games can do now makes me so excited about what's to come I Thought it was beat sobri is it not sobri only in Mexico Have you the first time I played beat saber I played too long, but you're like in VR so you don't realize exactly what your body's doing and
00:03:06
Speaker
And then the next day you're like, I played a lot of beats. My body says you pushed it. You pushed it a little too far there, pal. There's been people that have lost like 50 to a hundred pounds on some beats. So that was awesome. I am thoroughly enjoying it. Yes. What, what, what other, uh, have you been playing any other,
00:03:33
Speaker
VR games besides. I got Iron Man VR. I was super interested in the topic we have later on to discuss the outline. So super interested in that. But I'm a noob. So I need suggestions. So if you guys all got suggestions for VR, show me the way. I need some scary stuff to watch my girl jump up and down. I need some stuff. Show me all the suggestions. Just play Resident Evil 7 in it then. It's the best VR game that's ever been.
Resident Evil 7 in VR: A Key Experience
00:04:01
Speaker
Yeah. It's like the only VR game that's an actual game just put into VR as opposed to a game made for VR, you know? And so it's, I mean, it's a full blown PS4 game that's awesome. Well, I guess it's on other systems too, isn't it? Or am I lying? Yeah, no, it's on other systems. That's also so good. It's so good. Andrew played it in VR. Yeah. I'll send you a list of like the five best ones.
00:04:30
Speaker
I have been, I don't have a VR, but I've been thinking about one recently simply for two reasons. One, you can play the golf club in VR and golf in VR just makes sense to me. That's a good, that's a perfect matchup to me. I like golf. Like you could actually get your form got together on the decisions. Right, like I like golf anyway, so that would make sense. But I've also been watching a ton of boxing recently, because it's one of the sports that just kind of kept going.
00:04:59
Speaker
And I think it's Creed, I think is the one that's on VR that's supposedly pretty good. And that one also, I would assume is a bit of a beat saver type workout. I assume so. You should buy it because I was thinking about buying and we can hopefully fight each other. That'd be fun. You're so dude. That's the only thing I could ever beat you in any sort of fight. And you were like twice my size.
00:05:24
Speaker
Not in virtual world. That's true. My girlfriend beats me up on the Wii Fit game box. There you go. And I might have a reach advantage on you too, man. How tall are you?
00:05:37
Speaker
6-2. Oh, I'm 6-2. Never mind. Just kidding. All right. Well, this is Log On Games Weekly. The podcast has all

It's going to be two weeks from today. So actually August 8th, which is a Saturday. So basically two weeks from today. We will be picking the winner over on our Instagram page.
00:06:32
Speaker
how you can win will be talked about in a little bit. Basically, you can win a $20 PSN card or Xbox
00:06:45
Speaker
gift card depending, it's your choice. So if you're an Xbox person, you can pick that. If you're a PlayStation person, you can pick that. So if you're an Xbox person, you can get a little over a month's worth of Game Pass. So you get all the games you'll ever need. And then if you're on PlayStation, that's 20 bucks. And during their sale time right now, that's like 17 games. They're going nuts right now too. I know. So yeah, I'm going to talk about the giveaway a little bit later.
00:07:13
Speaker
But more in-depth, but basically, yeah, follow us on Instagram and get ready to win some moolah. But we're going to head into the weekly news. We're going to start with the free games for August. So we have PlayStation here. We have Xbox here, depending on your platform of choice. PlayStation Plus members for August 2020 are going to get Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
00:07:43
Speaker
remastered campaign so That's a pretty good one get campaign modern warfare 2 has a great campaign and remastered
Fall Guys & Multiplayer Party Games
00:07:53
Speaker
looks real pretty and then fall guys ultimate knockout Which is a brand spanking new game? And many many of people have been doing let's plays of this on Twitch and on YouTube that I've seen they've had the beta I think maybe was going on or I
00:08:09
Speaker
Maybe they got early codes, but very much a party type game. Craziness pursues. It looks like a tons of fun. I will say that. It's a massively multiplayer online party game for up to 60 players. Features physics based action with free for all brawls and team based co-op challenges. I'm a big fan of co-op.
00:08:35
Speaker
It reminds me of that game we played. I can't remember the name of it. Rocket League. No. Okay. It allowed me some Rocket League. It's another fighting game where you're just like a blob or whatever and you're trying to just knock people out. Oh, we played it at your bachelor party for forever.
00:08:55
Speaker
See, that would be my bachelor party, too. That would be my bachelor party, too. It was basically junk food and video games. It was a blast. What's the name of that game? I know exactly what you're talking about. You're talking about the one that's hard to control, and that's what makes it fun. Yes. Yeah. It seems like that a little bit, but a little bit more in depth. So if you're interested, go watch another video of that, or go watch a Twitch stream of that. It's going to be out this Tuesday, August the 4th.
00:09:24
Speaker
And it looks like tons of fun. And it's free, so everybody should download it. We should all play together. On the Xbox side, your games with
Xbox's Games with Gold: Relevance & Rumors
00:09:33
Speaker
gold. It's always weird. It's weird now, especially going into next gen, of even saying Xbox's gold lineup when they have Game Pass. Wait, timeout. Gangbeast. Gangbeast, yes. That's the name of the... It reminds me of Gangbeast, but... Sorry, I was looking it up. I found it. More into it.
00:09:53
Speaker
But it's a little weird because Xbox has Game Pass to be like, here's the games with gold because it really doesn't, you know, all their good stuff goes to Game Pass. But anyways, you have Portal Knights from August 1st to the 31st for Xbox One and Override Mech City Brawl from August 16th to September 15th. You also on regular Xbox can get MX Unleashed and Red Faction 2. So those are not regular Xbox, but you know,
00:10:24
Speaker
360 games, but you can play them on Xbox one So those are the free games this month again If you are on PlayStation download that fall guys, maybe we'll try and do some sort of podcast event or something Also, don't forget don't forget they just put some new games on game pass to including the one they just showed off grounded very good for a game for game preview, so There you go. So when that when that
00:10:53
Speaker
Win our giveaway and you get get a good. I'm downloading it on here We're going to we're going to the rumor mill This is a rumor. So you take it as you will new Resident Evil 8 details leak from tester event, so I'm not gonna go through this whole article If you're interested in you're listening to this you can go to rely on horror.com And they have a Resident Evil
00:11:23
Speaker
Article up and basically a tester Kind of spilled the beans supposedly on a lot of stuff here They talk about enemy types. They talk about boss fights. They talk about Weapons and inventory and some of the characters and all that stuff Not gonna go hardcore into that on here but what we are going to talk about is the fact that
00:11:49
Speaker
It was supposedly playable, or it was tested on a PS4 Pro and also in VR, which means PS VR. So this was one of the questions I had initially when they announced the PlayStation event, which was Resident Evil 7 on PS VR was like my favorite VR experience. One of my favorite gaming experiences I've ever had.
00:12:14
Speaker
So I really wanted this to come out on VR. I just didn't know if it would. It's the best and really kind of the only like triple A-ish VR game. There's been a little bit more triple A-ish kind of stuff, but... You've got to send me that list. I've got to go buy, download this game and buy the Resident Evil 7 now. I'm sure it's super, super cheap now. I will watch you play Resident Evil 7 because it's entertaining.
00:12:42
Speaker
There's a jump-scares? There's a few. Okay, because those get me every time, unfortunately. Well, listen to this. It's a lot easier to get headshots in VR because you just got to look at their head. At least that's what I kind of get out of it. But yeah, so supposedly he played it on the PS4 Pro and in PSVR. So super exciting news for me, if it's true, which
00:13:11
Speaker
Assume I would did we even get a release date on that? I'm gonna link this up on Resident Evil I don't Maybe so, but I don't think so. I don't think so Let's see Resident Evil 7 release date on June 11th ps5 streaming it just says for the PlayStation 5 in 2021. It's all it says yeah, so that may even be Speculation of course that may be didn't yeah, I'm out at like March. I
00:13:40
Speaker
Seven came out early, actually seven came out like right after E3. Because remember they showed that trailer and oh my god, or maybe it came out late, I don't remember. But the remakes have both come out in the spring. Two came out in the spring, and then the three remake came out in the spring. So it kind of makes sense if eight came out. I may be playing the three remake tonight. That's a possibility. It's on sale on the summer sale, so I'm thinking about it.
00:14:07
Speaker
But yeah, spooky stuff. Spooky. Spooky stuff. And then. And awesome stuff. Yeah, it's gonna be on the next gen consoles, but I'm excited to play it in VR if that's true. Marty, you should play seven and eight in VR if possible. That's all I'll say. Yeah, so my awesome chat gifted me over a VR set. So I am going to definitely download that Resident Evil like this week. You like the spookiness?
00:14:36
Speaker
Oh, ready to get spooked. I, I, I love and hate it at the same time. I'm using it as a test. So I don't jump anymore. It's scary. That's the jump scare is getting me all the time. I turned into like a little girl and just like jumped and it's bad. What is your, what is your experience with resident evil games in the past? Literally I played the last remaster that came out and that's the first game I've ever played in resident three. You played three.
00:15:04
Speaker
Uh, yes. The, the one where, Oh man. Well, like the footsteps. I think that was three. Yeah. I was Leon and yeah. Yeah. Okay. I gotcha. I'm yet to play that remaster, but I have the original of that still, um, actually on the dreamcast. And, uh, yeah, I've played all of them. I've played at least a version of all of the ones that have coming out now.
00:15:31
Speaker
whether it be, like I haven't played, I didn't play the original of two, but I played the remaster, so. A remake, a remaster, the remake. Because they're going through all of them, sounds like, right? I think coming out with eight here, this is exciting. Hopefully, and I'm in the camp that a lot of people are, and I would say most Resident Evil fans would tell you that four is one of the best games of all time, which is why Resident Evil four can be bought on about every system you can think of.
00:16:00
Speaker
Um, but if they remake four, that is going to be one of the best games ever. Um, just based off of the quality that they've done with two and three, or yeah, with two and three. So it would be so good. Um, well, we're not going to, we're going to, there's no real segue to do this. We're not, we're going from zombie superheroes. It's not, you know what I mean?
Marvel Avengers Beta Breakdown
00:16:21
Speaker
We got to talk about Marvel Avengers, that war table stream that they had, which made the game look better than it ever has. If I will say so myself.
00:16:31
Speaker
They have a beta coming up just gonna do a little beta breakdown here if you pre-order the game on PlayStation 4 You will have access to the beta starting August 7th weekend. So just basically three weekends That the beta is going to be open so Friday Saturday and Sunday
00:16:51
Speaker
If you pre-order it on PlayStation, you get first crack at it. You can start on August 7th through 9th. And then August the 14th, which will be the second beta weekend, will be open to the entire PS4 community as part of the PlayStation Advantage partnership. And you can start pre-loading it on August 13th as well. And then I believe that's when Xbox has their
00:17:18
Speaker
Beta for if you pre-ordered it and then the 21st is for open for everybody. Yeah. Yeah So the final weekend will be August 21st So basically three full weekends if you are if you already pre-ordered on PlayStation and it's a meaty beta So you may need it
00:17:40
Speaker
It looks like it Wow look at these clips the video the wow this looks like a meaty game well yeah, well they I think he said there's I Want to say he said 20 plus or maybe it was 25 plus something like that 20 something plus Different missions or rooms or things to do in this beta Yes, that's killer for a beta
00:18:04
Speaker
That's the whole game in some games. Most of the stuff, none of the stuff is going to carry over when the game comes out. Correct. But if you do certain things in the game, you will get nameplates that you can only get from the beta. So when the real game comes out, you'll have a little something extra to show off or whatever. Because this game, more than anything, made it very much seem like it's going to be
00:18:32
Speaker
semi-MMO kind of stuff, very destiny, very division-like type of game. The beta will include single-player content from the original campaign. I believe there's two missions. I know you get the San Francisco Bridge mission, you get another one. Co-op, war zone missions, hero and world progression, and even more. I'm reading this from the PlayStation blog. Basically, the Golden Gate Bridge demo is in there.
00:19:01
Speaker
There's a story mission called To Find Olympia, where you get to play as Kamala and Hulk on their little mission. There is Harm Challenge Room, so you can play with your friends, which is basically like a wave-based kind of challenge. There's a Harm Room. And then you have the War Zones, which, for Destiny fans, they kind of remind me, it's when you play Call of Duty War Zone as the Hulk.
00:19:32
Speaker
That would be so cool. Surprise people. But no, for people that are fans of Destiny, I kind of just get that the war zones are almost like strikes. And in the presentation, they said war zone missions can take basically from 10 minutes to up to two hours. So I'm down. I'm down with all of that. And they said there's, I think, 80
00:20:01
Speaker
80 Warzone missions when the game drops. The beta will include five of them, I think is what they said. Gotcha. Yeah, I feel like the Warzones are just basically the main missions. Just mainly what you're going to be playing. Like for co-op. Yeah. Yeah. Well, and you say it's kind of like Destiny or something like that. And I do think there's a lot of similarities, but I think to me a bonus is that it doesn't seem to have any open world-ness to it at all.
00:20:30
Speaker
Yeah, that's the one part. I am a little confused because I compare it to this every time I see it. I would almost compare it to Phantasy Star maybe. Where you just have your main hub, but if you're going out into the world anywhere, they're not going out into any sort of open world.
00:20:51
Speaker
you're going to go do this mission. Now it seems like, and I would assume a lot of the missions take place in samey areas because you're doing multiple missions that are connected. So they're going to be all in this general area or whatever, but I don't know. We'll see. Yeah. And then I'm excited cause it seems like there's like a, uh, an emphasis on trying to get people to game together online as the different characters.
00:21:16
Speaker
to essentially be the Avengers. I think that's awesome being a Twitch streamer. That's like something I could very much get excited about buying this game for. For sure. But I do think one of the best parts, one of my favorite parts of their presentation was the fact that
00:21:32
Speaker
this game gives you a reason to still play when your friends are not online and you're playing by yourself because all of the, so you can do these missions like four player co-op or a mixture of co-op and your AI characters, or just you and your AI characters. You're still doing it with the same superheroes, but my, if I'm playing as Iron Man, my Hulk that's at my level that's upgraded the way that I've upgraded him, that's the one that's accompanying me.
00:22:00
Speaker
And so I don't know if they still earn XP or whatever while they're doing stuff for you or not, but it gives you an incentive to be like, okay, I'm still doing this mission, still earning XP or whatever with my people. And it's not just, I have to have my friends online to play it. So I like that. For sure. For sure. Some of the beta I'm trying to read a little bit, you can, says you can reach up to hero level 15 and a power level of 45 in the beta.
00:22:28
Speaker
that like 100% is Destiny right there. And so that excites me. And they even talked about at the end of the presentation, like we haven't even told you about some of the other game types like Hive, whatever they were called, and Boss Layers.
Game Experience Comparisons & Expectations
00:22:44
Speaker
And the only thing in my mind was like if Boss Layers are like raids,
00:22:47
Speaker
This is going to be my favorite game. I think it's the other way around. I think boss lairs... I had to guess, I think boss lairs are going to be not any real mission build up. Just see if you can take down this really difficult dude thing to take down. And hives seem to me more like raids. I don't care. Either way, I'm down with all of this. Unless... Yes, so much yes. Yeah, unless hives are like a... Because you know like the... What do they call them again?
00:23:18
Speaker
The rooms where you do the waves of people where those called again Just oh you talking about on this on this game. Yeah, we had war zones we had
00:23:29
Speaker
The story mission. Something room. I can't. Harm room. Harm room. Harm rooms. Yeah. Harm rooms are supposedly like almost like it's waves of enemies, but it's supposedly like training. You're almost in a virtual simulation of training, right? I wonder if a hive is more of like, all right, now this is that except for real, not training. Could be.
00:23:57
Speaker
I'm way more, you're right though, I'm way more excited about it after this video. The last video was just kind of like, yeah, it was fine. It looked coolish, but I wasn't sold on the game being good. This makes the game seem more gooder. More gooder. Absolutely. The other one that got me excited for it, I'm like, I'm a, I'm a superhero fan. So I want to play the game no matter what. Even I just would hope it's good.
00:24:26
Speaker
but I'm gonna be happy. And they did announce their first new hero after the game comes out at some point. Which kind of confused me. Like he's part of the team. So why is he like a special thing with Jake? Well, there's only, there's only five heroes when the game comes out, right? So there's six. So it's kind of confusing because he was the six.
00:24:56
Speaker
No, he will be the seventh. So you have Captain America, which is the confusing one because like he supposedly dies in the main story, like right off the bat or whatever. But it seems as though when you're doing after you beat the game or whatever the story and you're doing like what the end game would be in destiny or division, which is basically the bulk of the game. Like you have the story and then you have everything else, which is like this massive game. It seems to me that you can, that,
00:25:26
Speaker
Because when they did the little logos or whatever and they said, there's six characters in the game, he was one of the logos. So you have Cap, Camila Khan, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Iron Man. So that's the six. And then they had four little icons for Post Alliance DLC characters. And then the only one that was flipped obviously was Hawkeye. So it seems as though they have three more a-coming.
00:25:56
Speaker
It's almost like the Smash Brothers thing where it's like, oh, dang, like, you know, maybe the end of next spring or something like that. They, they kind of have a trailer come out and it's Captain Marvel or Ant-Man or whoever. Spitterman.
00:26:12
Speaker
I would love Spider-Man. I don't know if they can do that. I don't think they can. He's Sony, right? I'm sure they'll find a way. I'm sure a deal. I hope so. Because here's the deal. If Avengers is a good game, if it does well and has a big crowd, it only can help Sony's Spider-Man if they put Spider-Man in the game. Yeah. True. But they're also moving on with Spider-Man. They're coming out of the PlayStation 5 one with the Miles Morales character instead.
00:26:42
Speaker
Sure. And maybe put that Spider-Man in the game. Put them both. Yeah, but it's only because those games are so different. Sony's obviously offered a single player, really polished experience where this is like, hey, this is not meant to be that. This is jumping to have fun with your friends. Yeah. So that's what the first, the first stream we watched in this game and even the announcement trailer.
00:27:08
Speaker
It was like, okay, it looks like fun. It looks like it's trying to kind of be destiny division MMO ish a little bit, but the gameplay was kind of this like, man, but now seeing how, how big of a game it's actually going to be. And then the gameplay looking better. The gameplay didn't look better this time. It was the last trade, but it also makes sense. Like I was watching a podcast after the last stream and like, it just doesn't look like.
00:27:35
Speaker
Like when Thor was hitting people with the hammer that it was like, you know, it didn't look like Spider-Man, like, or Batman or whatever, like that stuff like that. But with the games, this massive, that's kind of how it is in the Division of Destiny where each player has so many different skills and stuff that.
00:27:52
Speaker
When you're actually sitting there playing the game, you get it. And it doesn't necessarily translate. Sure. What's the Marvel game that you played with your wife on Switch? Ultimate Alliance? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like that. That kind of makes sense. That's a one on one fighting game, wasn't it? No, no, no. Ultimate Alliance is like four player co-op going through the game as well. It's not MMO-ish, kind of like this is, but...
00:28:16
Speaker
Yeah, it's more so just like right, but it's like a Lego game almost but it's not like but it's really good not that the Lego games aren't but
00:28:27
Speaker
But yeah, but my point is those games aren't super polished like the other ones and it works. So this seems like at least from the fighting standpoint that it would be somewhat similar on par to the Ultimate Alliance type stuff and maybe another notch up or something. But you don't. Yeah, I feel like that Ultimate Alliance games work well and they do well. So yeah, makes sense to me that this fighting style would work.
00:28:55
Speaker
Yep. I'm reading this from the PlayStation blog. It says, all future characters will have custom movesets, combos, skills, gear, heroics, outfits, emotes, and nameplates. From a gameplay and cosmetic standpoint, we've drawn up 80 years of Marvel history. Body blue. Body blue.
00:29:14
Speaker
I'm talking about Hawkeye a little bit. Hawkeye has his own story missions as well. So like, I know a lot of people, I am not one of these people. I would have been in either way, but I know a lot of people are playing Mario right now. Somebody's calling me. That's my phone. That's awesome. A lot of people wanted this to just be a single story Marvel, like,
00:29:40
Speaker
a giant Marvel Avengers game, like Endgame or Infinity War, but just like a single player story game or whatever. So the fact that it is more open, I know there's some people aren't going to like it, but at the same time, they do from what I gather is this story is going to be way better than something like Destiny or Division. Maybe it's just because it's Marvel. So it's automatically a little better and because people understand it better.
00:30:09
Speaker
If you want that single-player stuff, you can still do all that, which is really good. And the fact that the story is going to be more than likely way better is going to be pretty cool too. It's got a built-in audience already, so like you were saying. Yeah, and I mean, there's some... I don't know. I would have preferred the single-player kind of like you were saying. I would have been in that camp. But I think the reason for that is because I want... There's just way less risk, I think, involved doing it that way.
00:30:39
Speaker
Um, well, they're definitely taking a risk with this. However, take something like destiny. I played destiny. I enjoy destiny. I play it. I play it with you, Andrew a lot. Um, not as much as you buy any stretch, but destiny has the tendency to, um, get stale to me. And I think the biggest reason why is that I don't care about the story at all. The gameplay is fun and I enjoy the gameplay and I enjoy.
00:31:06
Speaker
you know, the leveling up and the grinding and that kind of stuff. I like that kind of stuff, but the story just is just not strong to me. Whereas with Avengers, you could really do the same strength of story, if you will, as destiny and people are going to buy in because it's Avengers and they know them, they love them. Yep. So that's kind of where I'm sitting with that too. And a lot of the problems that destiny one and two had same with the division one and two.
00:31:33
Speaker
was it launched with not enough content. So like this game looks like it's gonna have a butt ton of content. Yeah it's a little interesting though because I do think that gameplay wise it seems like there's a ton of content but as in a Marvel Avengers game I would have assumed if you'd have asked me before knowing anything about this game that
00:31:58
Speaker
Tell me what kind of game it's going to be. I would have said, OK, cool. If they're announcing all these free characters afterwards, they'll probably only come out with 10 or 12 to start with. But you get six, which is I'm interested. That is a little interesting because there's, you know, in the Marvel universe, there's a bajillion characters you can use. See, and honestly, when I first saw this whole trailer, I thought it was more like an Assassin's Creed play through one.
00:32:21
Speaker
who wants to play the same Batman fighting style, essentially. And looking through the clips, though, it looks like it also still has a cinematic thing, more like a Batman Arkham universe. Yeah, so it looks like the story mode kind of stuff, they're going to put some stuff in the story mode because they know everybody's playing the same missions, everybody's going to be playing as the same characters because it is a story that they've created. So they can kind of do more,
00:32:50
Speaker
single-player story type stuff that makes it really cool. And then yeah, when you want to play co-op with your friends, you have your own Iron Man or your own Captain America or whatever with your own set of skills and looks way different. And then you can just go around with your friends and just do missions and crap like that and have a good time. So stoke for it and everything's free, which I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but all extra characters, all extra expansions and contents are all going to be free. So.
Game Pricing & Microtransactions Debate
00:33:19
Speaker
They're doing what kind of what Matthew talked about with NBA a couple of podcasts ago where it's like If you're gonna have microtransactions and all this stuff just make the game cheaper and make it free but if you're gonna charge $60 like Everything should be included which is what seems like what it's a mentality I I don't think people have an issue paying for content if the game is free but once you pay 60 bucks to buy into a game and
00:33:48
Speaker
you do start to feel slighted every time a new character comes out for 10 bucks. Like, okay, how much money am I into this game now, you know? And so I think it's a good call, makes perfect sense to me. So yeah, I like it. I'm down. I feel like the same way, like even like, oh, geez, what was the game that I just came out with stuff? Mortal Kombat. Like unless they have like a whole nother added story, like that I would play through, it really hurts me.
00:34:18
Speaker
buy another thing after spending 60 bucks. Right. Especially games that just come out with content to come out with content every so often. I don't mind it quite as much when say like Smash Brothers comes out and they tell you the game's coming out. We have all these characters.
00:34:35
Speaker
and it's going to cost you this much for a season pass to get all the characters for a year. This much for a season pass to get all the characters. Like, if you know ahead of time, this is the strategy, then it's not normally quite so bad either. So communication against the market. Yeah. And I feel like the only people that communicate are the people that are communicating that we have a decent deal for you. The ones that don't communicate are the ones that are like, oh, if we communicated, we're going to get roasted.
00:35:06
Speaker
Correct. We're going to move on to the topic of the show, but before we do, I want to talk a little bit about the giveaway we're doing.
Podcast Giveaway Details
00:35:13

00:36:28
Speaker
on whatever date I said that didn't even write down, August the 8th, I think Saturday, August the 8th. And we'll shoot the code over to you. Now, gonna head over to talk about our 2020 predictions that we did at the beginning of this
Yearly Predictions Recap
00:36:47
Speaker
year. Man, we were so good at these. Marty was not on the podcast, so we did this on however you did send in some of your predictions.
00:36:55
Speaker
So it's very interesting just to see, I'm not necessarily, we should just fly through this thing. We talked about it a little bit on some of the Xbox and PlayStation reviews just because of whatever, but basically me, Matthew Shibi and Marty had predictions and I just want to go over some of them. So the first funny thing is that when we talked about when things were going to get announced,
00:37:24
Speaker
For Xbox, we all said that it was gonna be an E3, and E3 didn't happen, so. So we are wrong. There we go. We're all, it didn't happen, so. Chibi, I guess, was the closest for the PlayStation 5 announcement. He said June 23rd, and it was like middle of June. Mm-hmm. So. Mm-hmm. Oh, Jesus, what did I say? Marty, you said March slash April.
00:37:51
Speaker
I said May, I said May 19th, Matthew said July 14th. Matthew's a little late. Me and Marty, extremely early. Right. What's the ballpark? We don't know the cost of the consoles yet. So Marty is actually the only one that got the fact that PlayStation was going to have two SKUs.
00:38:15
Speaker
So me, Matthew, and should be all said that they were not have any extra like there wouldn't be a second PlayStation five. And that there would just be one. And then Marty had.
00:38:28
Speaker
that there would be two versions, one 450 and one 550. So congratulations to Marty. You don't win anything. Pride, I win pride. I don't think 450 and 550 are in the question anymore. No. It's not out of the realm of possibility. It's out of my realm of possibility.
00:38:49
Speaker
You said that there would be one, Matthew, you said there would be one PlayStation 5 and your price was $4.49. So basically $4.50. I think that one of them will be $4.50. So I think I'm going to take partial credit when that price is announced. Partial. Me and she both thought there would be one at $500. I still think
00:39:15
Speaker
Probably the disc one will be, I'm thinking 400 and 500, but who knows? I'm thinking four and 450 or 350 and 450. I wish. If they came out with that digital one and just dropped it for 350, they would absolutely destroy this console start. They'd sell out of those things. They'd sell hotter than hot pancakes. Hot pancakes.
00:39:44
Speaker
I don't know. I really, I'm going digital. I think, I think I'm going to go digital, but I really like the look of the CD one. I like the non-symmetrical, asymmetrical shape. See, but they said you could play the old games too. So doesn't that take that away if you don't have the CD version? No, you can play if you've bought them on the PS4 on the PSN and you still have them. Oh, okay. Yep. Yeah. Yeah. As long as like,
00:40:14
Speaker
Yeah, if you have a PS4 disc and you buy the digital edition, you can't, obviously. There's no disc drive. Then you're screwed. So you'd have to buy it again. But for the most part, like for me, I would say since about, I don't know, a year or two after the PS4 came out, I basically bought everything digitally. Because it's really GameStop's fault. Because I used to buy everything physically, but GameStop quit doing
00:40:42
Speaker
Midnight launches where we live, they just didn't do them for whatever reason. So I was like, well, if I want to play at midnight, like when, like a game like borderlands or division or something like that, where I know all my friends are going to be getting it too, and we're all going to play together. It's like, well, if we want to play at midnight, we have to PSN. So it just kind of started from there and now I just get everything digitally. Right. Well, I mean, you could do PSN before and PSN would be.
00:41:06
Speaker
just as easy as far as being able to start it, play at midnight, but being able to go buy a $60 game at midnight that you know in four or five months when you're done playing it, you can go get some money for it. That was helpful. See, my big thing is like, I'm like you, as soon as I figured out, oh my gosh, I can buy these virtual. I don't buy CDs anymore. I don't buy anything.
00:41:33
Speaker
but my half friends are like, oh my gosh, have you tried this game? Like they gave me Detroit become human or something like that. That game is amazing. That was my game of the year that year. Really? It's been, I, it's been a trip, but like, I wouldn't be able to play that or even try that or let her, let me borrow it without having a CD version. Yeah, correct. So if you get the digital edition, basically there's no reason to buy games at Walmart. Like Walmart GameStop has a sale or you,
00:42:02
Speaker
find something on Craigslist or whatever, you're kind of screwed. But for me, it's just the fact that it's so much easier for me to just sit down and just not have to go anywhere and just be like, okay, well, I preordered this five months ago and it's gonna be literally all I have to do is press play at midnight when it comes out. Or PlayStation has the sale that they have going on right now. They have a whole bunch of sales like that. So you still get your super cheap stuff in.
00:42:31
Speaker
working towards the monopoly. There you go. Xbox-wise, Shibi and Marty are the only two people that's, right, only two people. But me and Matthew said there would be only one unit. Shibi and Marty said there'd be two units. And so it looks like that's gonna be correct. So although, not official yet. So we'll see. I would think. Release dates are funny.
00:42:58
Speaker
Marty did not get release date. I you can give one now if you want to I'll write it down Basically, let's see here Xbox release dates. I said October 30th Matthew said November 13th should be said November 20th For ps5 I said November 13th Matthew said October 9th and should be used to it and should be said November 10th So basically all pretty much around the same time Sure
00:43:28
Speaker
The only thing I'll say now, I thought that Microsoft was going to try and get their Xbox out there and let it be cheaper. Like I said, they were trying to get it out first, and it was also the cheapest. But now, with the PlayStation event in June, everything was running on a PS5, and then it came out that nothing was running on this Xbox Series X for the last Xbox Showcase. It was all on PCs. So that makes me think the exact opposite now, or if something's going to come out early, it's going to be PlayStation. It seemed a little bit more on the ball.
00:43:59
Speaker
Yeah, so obviously that Halo trailer that everybody was like, this looks terrible, or not everybody, but a lot of people was like, this looks terrible.
Xbox Presentation Critique & Release Date Speculation
00:44:08
Speaker
There's two rumors, I don't know which one is true. One rumor that it was being, it was demoed on,
00:44:16
Speaker
or being shown off on a PC that has similar specs to the Series X, and then there's another one that said that that was their E3 demo. So they already had that plan for E3, and then when E3 got canceled, they're like, we'll just keep it. So that build was like, you know, two, three months old, possibly. Which, why would you even show it if it looked, you know, that bad, in my opinion?
00:44:42
Speaker
So it seems that PlayStation might be a little bit more, like if there was gonna be a console that came out early November, end of October, I would switch my dates there, but. You're a PlayStation person? Are you getting them both? Did you say you're getting them both? I wanted to get them both, but then for me personally, the Xbox Showcase showed absolutely no reason for me to get a series of things.
00:45:09
Speaker
Not only that, but anything on there that looked any kind of interesting to me. According to what Microsoft is saying, I probably could still play it on the Xbox One I have now. In my mind, before that conference happened, I was like, they're going to show off Halo Infinite on the Series X and it's going to blow my freaking mind on how good it looks, how well it plays and stuff like that. And when it looked like an Xbox One release game, I was like, well, I can just play this on my Xbox One now. I don't need to get a Series X if it's going to look like this.
00:45:40
Speaker
So unless they change that drastically, I don't see any reason that I'll get a series exit launch. I'll just play Halo on the Xbox I have now. Oh, no, Xbox. Fix your stuff. We had a Sony VR. Sony would announce another VR unit. Shibi said yes. Everybody else said no. Marty, you said you think. You said no, but they would in 2021. It's very possible.
00:46:10
Speaker
Say it one more time. What was it? 2021? I missed it. I'm sorry. Marty said that there would be no Sony VR unit announced. Yeah. And he thinks it'd be announced in 2021. Yeah. What did we say about that? Did we mention that at all? We all said, me and you said no. Shibi said yes. Okay. This is kind of funny. We thought we had, some of the stuff we just thought we knew. We're like, look, this is in the bag. Book it now, put all your money on it.
00:46:38
Speaker
The trip the we had to guess the launch two launch games for Xbox Series X all of us said Forza And that's and that's not a launch game. No, but I was like the one we're all like Forza 8 write it down book it and then did it up for you? it's not come that was the best graphically looking game they had though and
00:47:02
Speaker
Yeah. Well, it also didn't say that it was coming to Xbox One, which makes me think it's probably at least two years out. It's also probably what it looks like. It also didn't say it's not. Also, I think I think there's a lot of things that they I think they were sneaky, sneaky, sneaky on the stuff that they were saying, because there was a lot of things that they said
00:47:26
Speaker
this is specifically forza this is shown in engine well in engine and Actually being how the new console looks is not the same thing could be but if it's in engine
00:47:41
Speaker
That could be in the engine that they make that game with on a PC that's way more powerful than the Xbox. Well, that's what they said. They said there wasn't anything running on the Series X that was in that conference.
Sony & Xbox August Event Rumors
00:47:55
Speaker
I'm telling you, man, as far as those two conferences go, Sony destroyed. They did. And supposedly, there's rumors that they're both going to do another one in August. Yeah.
00:48:10
Speaker
Yeah, I think Xbox is confirmed. I could be wrong. And I think theirs is confirmed. Playstations is not. Phil Spencer said there's going to be one in August, but he didn't say a date. And then Sony should just rumors. But the rumors are that they're going to do one at the beginning of August sometime. And then they have a launch title game that they haven't announced yet that's going to be a big one. Sony does? Correct. The rumor has solved that.
00:48:36
Speaker
There's a live title game. They're resurrecting an old PlayStation franchise. Oh, that's right. I did see that. You know what would be nice? Don't know what it could be. Throw out a siphon filter. Twisted Metal. I was thinking Twisted Metal. Me and my friend were talking about that the other day. Twisted Metal, some sort of online or even if it just kept the old school style and had a co-op story mode, you could just play online. It'd be awesome. Those games are great. Twisted Metal Black was great.
00:49:06
Speaker
That could be the Silent Hill rumor. It could be. It could be. That's what I'm going around to. Was Silent Hill and X-Box a PlayStation exclusive? I don't know if it was. Maybe way, way back on the day. I will say, with the Twisted Metal thing, that might step on the toes of that, I don't remember the name of the game, but one of the games they showed, yeah, that thing. It could be. I don't know what it would be.
00:49:33
Speaker
I would love for that all to be true though. Me and Shibi both said fable. It was announced, but it's definitely not a launch game. 100% not a launch game. If you could pick one for that Sony game to be, what would you pick? What would you want it to be? I have no earthy idea. Man, give me a new Parappa the Rapper. Let's go. No one would enjoy it. I would enjoy it.
00:50:01
Speaker
I'd enjoy watching. Maybe it's like Resistance. Maybe that's like their big shooter. Yeah, maybe. They have coming back. Maybe. I think... They really didn't have a shooter. That was like really one of them. They had third party shooters that were going to be exclusive for a little bit. Like the Bethesda stuff. They really didn't have a shooter that they showed off. And the Killzone people are making... What are they making again? Which one? Killzone people? Horizon. Yeah, that's right. So it's not going to be that. Well, you would think it's not going to be that.
00:50:32
Speaker
Yeah. I wonder what resurrecting means too. Does resurrecting mean here's a new sequel or is this like a Resident Evil remakes have been so good. They remaking an old game. Remaking an old. I think they're remaking an old game.
00:50:49
Speaker
That would be what I would think because that'd be the easiest, right? And all the most money because Resident Evil is making hands over this money off these games. They are. And I think Resident Evil, we've talked about before, I think Resident Evil is about to get into this really good rhythm of making a game, remaking a game, making a game, remaking a game and just doing just staying four or five games ahead of what they're remaking with their new releases. And it's brilliant, I think. I'm going to try and blow through some of these other ones.
00:51:19
Speaker
Do it. Two PlayStation launch titles. We all said Horizon, which isn't confirmed. Maybe it is confirmed that it's not a launch title, but it does seem like it's going to be a launch window, like within the next year for sure, I think, is when it's going to come out. Sure. I didn't know what to say, did they? No. I said Street Fighter VI. Nothing of that nature yet. Matthew said a Lego Marvel Avengers.
00:51:46
Speaker
Still possible. I don't know how much possible now that we have. Avengers Avengers. Yeah Avengers Avengers and then for like family games they announced like Astrobot and Ratchet and Clank and stuff like that I think are gonna be there. Be it other than that we've had Horizon across the board. See we know what we're doing you know we got this.
00:52:11
Speaker
Nintendo when Nintendo announced a new switch model this year. I said yes not released in 2020 Everybody said yes except for Marty which Marty so far you're correct
00:52:28
Speaker
It's winning. It's true. December 30th, they're going to be like, they're going to announce why. Yes. I think they have to at some point to keep up with the hardware of everything else, just so they can keep bringing PS5 and Xbox Series X games to the Switch. I think, which is down here, I'm going to skip ahead a little bit too. We had two unique predictions for 2020.
00:52:54
Speaker
And Shibi said that there would be a Switch Pro dock released holiday 2020. I don't know if it'll be released or not, but that could be a really easy way to be like, we have the Switch or whatever, but you have for the PS5 and everybody's been making games for next gen and stuff like that. We don't want to get too far behind. We want, you know, at least Overwatch 2 to come to the Switch and stuff like that. Maybe not Call of Duty or Madden or anything like that, but to get enough of them, just a dock that would
00:53:23
Speaker
You can plop it in and play some of these next gen games would be nice. Any else? Where are we? New Mario Kart would be announced and released this year. Me and Matthew said no. Should be Marty said yes. So we still don't know about that. I would love for New Mario Kart to be announced. Yes, please make that happen. Would there be a new switch?
00:53:51
Speaker
theme console or a new Switch Lite color. I said white Switch Lite. Matthew said Metro theme Switch should be said nothing. Marty said new Lite color green. So nothing on that front yet. And then again, we had our two unique predictions. And then we had a fun one at the bottom, which was like, which we came up with on the podcast. I think Matthew did.
00:54:20
Speaker
which was like your holy grail of game that could be announced this year. Matthew kind of got it a little bit. You said PSO2. You said yours had already been met. It was Phantasy Star Online 2. But they did technically announce another Phantasy Star Online 2. So you kind of got that one. It's twice. It's two again. It's two again. How did you know?
00:54:48
Speaker
I promise there's nothing about me that could have known that they were going to do that. He knows things. He knows things. I said Left 4 Dead 3, which the people that made Left 4 Dead are making another game called Back 4 Blood. I have not seen that. Does it look like Left 4 Dead? The only thing they've released is a drawing of
00:55:18
Speaker
like a graphic for the game, which was just like a picture of a building or something. Like that's literally it. I'm pretty sure it's like super early, still in development or whatever, but it's supposed to be the exact same thing. Like for it, they say this four player zombie shooter co-op, everything they say makes it seem exactly like Left 4 Dead. So I hope so. I hope so. That would be killer. Now they are, who's making that? I don't know. Let me see.
00:55:47
Speaker
Is it people that may let it not without anymore or is it? Okay. So that gives it a chance to come out on all consoles, basically. Correct. Back for blood. Um, next gen cooperative first person she did from the creators of the Left 4 Dead. That's all it says. Okay. Turtle Rock Studios. Interesting. I feel like a game of Left 4 Dead style would do really well on the Switch. For sure. And that may be like, again,
00:56:17
Speaker
If you could get that Switch Pro doc and you could get games like this. True, true. Or an Overwatch 2 and whatever else. Kind of family, like if a new LEGO game comes out for next year and you can plot that on there. Here's another question. All these Resident Evil games have been coming out on the Switch. Does 8 come out on the Switch at some point? Maybe. Do they get 7 on their first? Yeah. Yeah, I don't know.
00:56:46
Speaker
Should be said ocarina of time remake. So for his mega one, right? But we really haven't heard anything from Nintendo basically all year. Is that a strategy or is that cause they have nothing? I think it's a strategy because they have, I think they're, they're saying, all right, we are not attempting to compete with all these new announcements of all these new systems and stuff coming out. We, I think they're doing well.
00:57:14
Speaker
Plus I think that right now they're just sitting back and watching the sales of Animal Crossing and Paper Mario just go ham I Mean it's it's absolutely incredible. I'm on the switch door right now Paper Mario just came out what two weeks ago now I believe and it's the number one best seller like this week or whatever on on the eShop Animal Crossing still to
00:57:42
Speaker
Animal Crossing. I've been playing Animal Crossing part of this podcast. It is so good. I don't know if it's true or not, but they have said that coronavirus has hit them real hard, which is why they haven't had any Nintendo Direct or anything like that. So I don't know if that's true or if it's what Matthew's saying. It's like they're just kind of sitting back. They actually do have stuff. They're just not holding it for now or if it's like,
00:58:11
Speaker
We had plans to announce a bunch of stuff and have games released, but... Well, they've done a good job of not announcing stuff for the most part that's more than a year out, basically. And I like that model. I really do. I mean, they tease the Metroid thing that no one knows anything about, but that's really it. Just about everything else they've announced has come out within about a year or so.
00:58:36
Speaker
And I think that's a, that's a wise way to do that. Um, especially that, that was another thing. And another reason that I think that PlayStation killed X-Box is because almost every PlayStation game you saw was 20 is launch window or 2021. And there were so many games, X-Box and outs that were just like, we're not going to give a date because we don't trust it. We don't know yet. Yeah, exactly. We'll get done with it eventually.
00:59:01
Speaker
The thing is I think PlayStation has those games like they have like Xbox announced fable and stuff like that We just didn't give a date or force or whatever or that new obsidian RPG. Uh-huh. Mm-hmm I think PlayStation does have those and it may be at this next event that they have that they're like we're gonna show you a God of War teaser and we're gonna even though it's gonna be far out and all those kind of heavy hitters maybe even another like maybe I don't I don't think so I think just they can be like
Sony's Strategy & Future Game Titles Speculation
00:59:32
Speaker
I think their next thing they're gonna show their one big game that apparently they're resurrecting whatever maybe a couple of the little small ones and Then announce the price and those kind of things and that's it. It's gonna be a 10-15 minute deal Because they're they're winning there. They don't need to do anything to screw this up So we shall see Yeah, that's about uh, and also that rumor that
01:00:01
Speaker
I forget the name of the studio is working on Uncharted. They could just show a trailer of that a little teaser. With Tom, with Spider-Man actually, right? Oh, you're right. It's a, it's not, it's not Naughty Dog. It's just all the people that made Uncharted with Naughty Dog working for this other company. Forget the name of the company, but they could show a trailer at the end that was just like, yeah, Uncharted. And it's kind of like Fable was just like a 30 second thing. Just so people are like, Oh my God.
01:00:28
Speaker
I heard the rumors that wasn't the new Spider-Man guy and the Uncharted guy. They're going to put him as the new... Oh, in the movie? Oh, in the movie? Oh, is that a movie that I saw that I've tried before? Yeah, Tom Holland. What? Okay, I totally thought that was just the next game coming out because I'm seeing more and more actors in games now. Listen, I think they're on their 10th director or 7th director or something for this movie, but now they're filming. It's happening.

Now they're doing it. Ooh, that's exciting. Yeah, that's about all the predictions and it'll probably get even worse as the years go on or as the rest of the year go on.
01:01:09
Speaker
I think Marty you're winning right now and you didn't even give predictions for everything but you're still winning That's why he's winning in the year 2020 you win if you just don't predict anything Yeah, if you just don't do anything you win in life right now in 2020 Just stay home and don't do anything you win. It's my kind of year man Any final thoughts before we in the south Marty I'll give give you the floor first

I am stoked about this Avengers game and I am definitely probably gonna be one of those I pre-order like it's second it comes out and you probably won't see me for the next month. I will because I'll play with you sir. Oh that needs to happen. Who are you gonna try and go for at the launch between the six characters that they gave you? I think I'm gonna have to be Iron Man because I played that Iron Man VR and now I want to just like soak up all the Iron Man. That's cool, that's cool.
01:02:03
Speaker
or who would you guys, because now I'm curious, are we going to play together or are we going to fight over same person? Well, we have a guy that we play with who every time he plays co-op stuff with us, he's always the biggest, strongest character in everything we play. So I feel like he's going to be the Hulk, but the Hulk is my favorite Marvel character. So I don't know, maybe we'll have to have a conversation. Yeah. So there's like six of us. I mean, there's six characters and it's really like me and him have basically two friends that
01:02:33
Speaker
play multiplayer stuff often. So that, yeah, I was thinking the same way when I'm watching this, like, okay, I know one of them is going to be the Hulk. And then I know Tanner is going to be Captain America because he, that's his favorite. Right, right. So now it's just like, I have no idea. Maybe Iron Man, but Marty's going to be Iron Man. Maybe I'll take Thor. If not Thor. Oh, that'd be cool. I'm thinking Thor Black Widow for me.
01:03:02

I really like, what's the other girl's name? I forget. Mila Khan, so she's basically- There you go. Big hands, stretch your hand, girl. Stretch your hands, yeah. She looks like she'd be really fun to play with, even though it's a really weird-ish character. I feel like her moveset looks cool. I feel like they're gonna encourage people to play with her too, so she's not like as established. Exactly. Yeah. The more I've seen of her character in the game, the more I'm like, she looks-
01:03:28
Speaker
Like when they first announced is like, I don't want to play as her, but the more as they, she looks pretty cool. Right. Well, it looks like a lot of her stuff is very combo related where she can, obviously because of her arm, she can swing things around and swing them into the path of a Hulk smash or something like that. So it looks pretty cool. Like I would be down to play Thor, Captain America, Iron Man. I've done play any like, get some side for this game. How quickly.

Uh, Hawkeye's gonna come out. Like, is he gonna come out? Like, the game launches September the 4th, I think. Is he not coming out until, like, January or something? Or is he coming out, like, a month after the game? October. Next month, yeah, that's what I say. If it comes out super soon, that tells you they're planning on putting out a lot of characters in a short space, which I'm down with.
01:04:15
Speaker
Because Hawkeye, you know, you can make the argument that he's kind of boring in the movies, but in a video game, way more exciting. He looked awesome. The amount of arrows and crap you can probably do with him is going to be super fun. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Now, I would if you if you count Hawkeye as a character, that'd be the one I would prefer to play outside the hall. Be cool. All right, Matthew, final thoughts for this podcast? Anything? No, I'm just ready. I'm ready for the new systems. I'm ready to preorder something, man.
