PS5 Reveal Predictions
00:00:13
Speaker
What's up everybody welcome to log on games weekly for Friday I just I tried to pop open my notes and I accidentally clicked on the music icon so I was very confused for a second of why Friday
00:00:28
Speaker
Friday, where was it? May 29th, May the 29th. On this episode, we are going to do some PS5 reveal predictions as the rumored reveal is going to be sometime in the next two weeks and possibly before we record another episode. So we want to go ahead and get that in.
00:00:50
Speaker
Um, so we don't miss it.
IGN Gaming Schedule Overview
00:00:53
Speaker
Um, also we're going to be talking IG and summer of gaming. They released their schedule.
Blizzcon 2020: Canceled or Virtual?
00:00:57
Speaker
Uh, Blizzcon is canceled and so much more, um, on this episode, as you hear, uh, X user eight X, uh, also goes by Matthew Fleming. Hey, what's up. How y'all doing?
Farming Simulator with Friends
00:01:13
Speaker
Doing swell. What do you, what you've been, uh, you've been farming.
00:01:19
Speaker
That's all you've been farming. I did. Me and a friend started a farming simulator world the other day, and it's significantly more enjoyable when you're playing with friends. It's a fun game that shouldn't be fun. But then again, you think something like Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley, it's like, hey, let's farm. And for some reason, it works in video games. I don't know how or why, but it's fun.
Rocket League Achievements
00:01:45
Speaker
We also played Rocket League and actually did Halfway Decent.
00:01:48
Speaker
We did. We got off after we lost our only loss of the night. Who cares if we only played four games or five games. We didn't lose, but once. Also with this Rocket League Pro, some would say, you can find him, J Monty G man on social medias.
Animal Crossing Giveaway by Log On Games
00:02:06
Speaker
We have Jason Montgomery with us today.
00:02:08
Speaker
How's it going? Funny you say that I have played rocket league since the week it came out. And this week I finally hit champ for the first time and any rank. So I'm pretty happy about that. No rank. I got champ one and doubles. So me and I were playing, I was trying to get him to, to champ. And instead we accidentally got me to champ. So just happy accident.
00:02:36
Speaker
Well, before we go further, if you follow us on our social media, social medias, you've seen this. We had another Animal Crossing giveaway last Saturday and toasters spelled with a zero instead of O. I'm about to say it doesn't. Over on Instagram.
00:02:58
Speaker
It's toasters with two Z's at the end as well. The files on Instagram and they won the two million bells. So congratulations to toasters.

June PS Plus Games Announcement
00:03:54
Speaker
So we are going to go on to our weekly news, starting with PS Plus games for June. And one, I believe, is already out, Call of Duty World War II, which I played quite a bit. Actually, I probably played that Call of Duty game more than any Call of Duty game besides like the original, like Modern Warfare 2 or something.
00:04:24
Speaker
Cause I didn't play for awhile and then that game kind of gets it back to the roots. So me and some friends jumped in, but that's a good one. Um, also star Wars battlefront two is going to be free games of the month. So some pretty heavy hitters in June for free games of the month.
Battlefront II and Call of Duty Discussions
00:04:42
Speaker
Jason, have you played, uh,
00:04:43
Speaker
either of these games or do you plan on picking these up? I've played a decent bit of Battlefront 2. My nephew has it and he really likes those games. I am not a Call of Duty person because I'm awful at all shooters whatsoever. So I like Battlefront because it's Star Wars, but I'm not the Call of Duty person. It is a little strange because there's been another Call of Duty game out already and
00:05:13
Speaker
Warf, not Warframe. Warzone has kind of taken over a little bit or whatever, especially for the Call of Duty people. It's just kind of weird that they would make this a free gaming month, but it is, you know. It's a great story, if nonetheless, the single player story mode of World War II is probably one of the better ones of the whole series, in my opinion. They're going to cannibalize themselves out of their own holiday game if they keep releasing all of these games mid-year.
Battlefront II: A Good Game Despite Microtransactions?
00:05:40
Speaker
I'll be okay with that.
00:05:43
Speaker
Matthew, you plan on playing either of these? I plan on playing both of them. Um, I don't know how much I'll stick with, um, call of duty, but I a hundred percent will play. I know that you and a couple of our friends played it a bunch and, uh, enjoyed it. I just, I'm, I would play it for free. I'm not going to buy it. That's just kind of the way I feel about call of duty games since I don't know the last seven or eight years. And, uh,
00:06:12
Speaker
Yeah, I'm absolutely pumped about that one, but I probably will put a decent amount of time into Battlefront. From what I have heard about it, that was the EA game that they really botched the release with. Microtransactions. Microtransactions and stuff, but for all intents and purposes, everything I've heard about the game itself is a good game. And all the microtransactions stuff, I believe they've
00:06:39
Speaker
they fix by nothing else because they were kind of forced to. So, yeah, I'm down for that.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Release
00:06:47
Speaker
I'm not a Star Wars person, but I might try Battlefront too, if some other people get on there. That game looks incredible. Yes. Yeah. Other news this week from game releases, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the Switch got a release date and it is August the 27th. Count me in.
00:07:08
Speaker
Jason, are we about to co-op this whole thing? Yeah, does it have online? I'm pretty sure it does. Surely it does. I'm down because I played the original with the GBA link cable or the GBA to GameCube cable. And I never played it more than a couple hours with friends. We never finished it. So.
00:07:27
Speaker
Yeah. I think if I remember correctly, we had for the game cube or something. We did. We did. I don't know how much. I don't know if we finished. I don't know. It has been a long time. I think it was a similar thing. I think it was a similar thing to where like we just did like that game was like made for online game when there really was no online gaming. So it was like, we played it, but it would have been more fun. It's just made for co-op is all it is. It's just made for co-op. And when we lived.
00:07:55
Speaker
where we lived in a log cabin in the woods with only dial-up internet. It was co-op with whoever was at the house at the time, and that was our only option. So me and you playing together was fun, and I enjoyed that game. I liked it, but three, four people, I'm in. Same. But August 27th, so when was Paper Mario again? Was it in July or something? I think it was July 17th, was it? Yeah, so there.
00:08:25
Speaker
They still got some steady games coming out here and there, trickling through the coronavirus times. So, excited about that.
Blizzcon 2020 Virtual Event Possibilities
00:08:34
Speaker
Moving on to Blizzcon. I'm reading this from The Verge. Blizzcon 2020 is canceled. May be looking to hold a virtual event in its place. So it's really the first paragraph here. Blizzard Entertainment will not host its annual Blizzcon event this year due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
00:08:55
Speaker
The event is usually held later in the year with Blizzcon 2019 kicking off on November the 1st and concluding on November the 2nd. In early April, Blizzard announced that it was uncertain about hosting Blizzcon this year. So what I want to ask you fellers, first of all, I think this announcement has kind of been coming for a while because when we talk about this IGN Summer of Gaming thing next,
00:09:24
Speaker
And even Summer Game Fest, Blizzard was always like, uh, anytime they show the icons of like, these are all the people that are going to be involved in Summer Game Fest or whatever. Uh, Blizzard was on there. So it was just like, yeah, you kind of knew like whatever they have to announce is not going to be from Blizzcon. Right. My question is, since this is normally happening at the beginning of November, do you think that, uh, and this is, well, actually I'll, I'll save the question for a second. I'll start with you, Matthew, first.
00:09:54
Speaker
just overall thoughts on this and what Blizzard might do. Because Overwatch 2 is probably the biggest thing they would have talked about. Sure, sure, by far. Or I don't know what they have in the way of World of Warcraft stuff to announce, because I know that they've done a lot of stuff in World of Warcraft over the last few months, as far as releasing the, I forget what they call it, but the original version,
00:10:21
Speaker
I forget what it's called. Classic version. Classic version. There you go. And some other stuff. But I mean, there's some things that would be, I mean, Mortal Warcraft, if they just ported it to the Switch or something like that, that'd be sick. You know what I mean? I'm not saying that's going to happen. But the Mortal Warcraft world and the fan base is huge. Yeah.
00:10:44
Speaker
There will be a lot of people that would be excited about those kind of announcements. But yeah, for me and you especially, Overwatch would be where it's at as far as announcements go. I don't know. I'm sure it'll be some sort of digital thing like everybody else. This is not that surprising. They do probably the best job, in my opinion, outside of maybe Nintendo or at least equal to Nintendo in their video releases of things or announcements of things anyways.
00:11:15
Speaker
And so it just makes perfect sense to me just to do that again, keep doing it. And they said, uh, in the interview, we're talking about how we might be able to channel the Blizzcon spirit and connect with you in some way online. So they may do something like that, but give me that. Well, uh, last Blizzcon, they interviewed Jeff Kaplan, who's kind of the head of the Overwatch team.
00:11:41
Speaker
about Overwatch 2, and he said, he basically is like, I don't know if we will, if the game will be out by BlizzCon next year or not, is basically kind of what he said. He's like, we'll definitely be talking about it at BlizzCon next year, but if it's going to be out or not, I'm not sure. So, and then they also teased Diablo 4 last year, so. Yeah, yeah. Speaking of Diablo 4, unless you had something else to say about BlizzCon,
00:12:10
Speaker
I was going to mention the Minecraft stuff. Sure. Played some Minecraft Dungeons this week. It's on Games Pass. And it's like Diablo for Minecraft fans, basically. I mean, it's what it felt like to me. It was obviously not as robust as Diablo, not nearly as graphical or just kind of cartoony, Minecraft-y looking version of Diablo. And we had a good time with that. That was pretty good.
00:12:38
Speaker
Yeah. And it pretty much is Diablo light. So, but again, we hadn't played, we hadn't really gotten into it. So I don't know. Yeah, we played four missions or so. Jason, any thoughts on Blizzcon or Minecraft dungeons? They go hand in hand.
00:12:59
Speaker
Yeah, Blizzcon, I don't know, I feel like Blizzard is probably ahead of themselves for announcing so many projects right now that they're probably not too worried about the fact that it got cancelled, like give themselves more time. Plus, you know, what was the game that they announced the other year and that had such a horrible reception? Like Diablo Mobile? Yeah, what was? Yeah, or Starcraft or whatever.
00:13:27
Speaker
So I'm sure they're not like not too like torn up by the fact that they're not going to be in a room with people who can ask them if it's like a out of season April Fool's joke. And yeah, Minecraft Dungeons, I have not done anything with that, but I've only heard good things about it. Yeah, it's good, man. We enjoy. I mean, we played probably, what do you think, an hour and a half, maybe? Yeah, something like that. And we're
Minecraft Dungeons vs. Diablo
00:13:55
Speaker
planning on playing more.
00:13:56
Speaker
Is it so I've played Diablo and I couldn't get into it as much, but I used to love the old like in 64 gauntlet games. Is it pretty similar to that or kind of like that? Yeah, I think I think those are similar to Diablo as well. OK, I think Diablo is. Is a game multiple the last couple of Diablo's I played and three I've played multiple times on multiple systems.
00:14:27
Speaker
But they're OK games for the first few hours. And then you hit that point where you're like, OK, I'm in. Yeah. Yeah. So Minecraft is like like in Diablo, you have like a helmet and accessory and all the stuff like on Minecraft. It's like you basically have your complete armor set and then you have your sword and your bow.
00:14:51
Speaker
And then you have three slots that are basically your abilities, but instead of like having a skill tree, it's just like you find them in chests and stuff like that. So there's no like classes or anything? No. So like I found a like a meat bone thing and you just go on and it's like someone's a wolf to fight with you and you can put it in one of your three slots and
00:15:14
Speaker
go at it and then but in typical like kind of looter Diablo form there's like colored rarities to of course and how powerful things can be or whatever but yeah but yeah you don't have to worry about uh your helmet and your cloak and your pants your shoes and your accessory and your ring and how many freaking slots
00:15:39
Speaker
It can hold for runes and all that stuff. And then all bajillion types of weapons. It's like you have your melee weapon and you have your bow. And then everything else is just kind of like you just pick it up and go. But it's pretty fun. So yeah, speaking of Blizzard, as we move on to IGN Summer of Gaming as they release their schedule, basically from June 5th through June 24th is what they've released so far with
00:16:09
Speaker
them saying that there's definitely more that they're trying to place and work out with people. So this schedule will be updated, but basically the whole month of June, they're gonna have stuff going on. And somewhere on one of these pages, or maybe it was on the website or something. Okay, so you can also see the likes of Arcade1up Blizzard EA.
00:16:33
Speaker
Facebook, Google Stadia, Square Enix, and Xbox appearing. But they just have not had their dates confirmed yet. So Blizzard will be a part of this in some way or another. Whether it's, I don't think they would do any more Overwatch 1 content. So it'd either be an Overwatch 2 thing, or a Diablo 4 thing, or I don't know, maybe like a Hearthstone expansion or something. But Blizzard's going to be a part of this.
00:17:03
Speaker
In some way. Well, there are some there are some overwatch one content that they could announce or release or whatever because there's a Decent amount of content that if they announce it for one it's gonna be on both So yeah, like a character or whatever fill in the blank I think it goes the last character as far as Overwatch one goes I think they said all the next new character will be on it will be
00:17:31
Speaker
like basically won't come until Overwatch 2 comes out. Right. Well, they could announce that though. They could, I mean, or ways out, but they could still announce that character. So starting on June 5th, so the schedule is like, in my mind could be better, one would say.
IGN Summer of Gaming Events
00:17:51
Speaker
But basically they have these things called IGN Expo Debut, which is like exclusive reveals, trailers, gameplay demos,
00:18:01
Speaker
and developer interviews, what they call them. So basically, like a stream actually announcing new things. So they have an IGN Expo debut on June the 5th, which is going to be the first. I think it's going to kind of kick off their whole summer of gaming thing. And it says, plus reveals. So unannounced game from Funcom.
00:18:29
Speaker
Unannounced game from merge games unannounced game reveal exclusive reveal trailer or whatever There's also an ID and expo debut on other days too. So there's like there's one June 8th, for example So but then on top of that it just basically if you guys want to go look at the schedule You can do it on the website or you can just google it. However, some days have Announcements some days it's just like charity streams
00:18:58
Speaker
Uh, sometimes it's just a trailer. They have, uh, like partnering with, with certain publishers. Like there's a PC, PC gaming show, whatever they're partnering with. And then the gorilla collective showcase, which a bunch of indie games and stuff like that. Um, they're partnered with, and then they have a bunch of stuff on here that just like pre-show and post-show stream. So they're doing like, uh, CJ seed, CD project red is doing their, um,
00:19:29
Speaker
stream for Cyberpunk. And they have that on there, but I don't think that's really like an IGN thing. I think they're just doing it. They just have it on here for coverage or whatever. Like, we're going to be covering this stream or whatever. But there is a lot of good stuff. Jason, anything on this schedule that kind of jumps out or you're excited about or anything like that?
00:19:54
Speaker
I'm just surprised how many kind of new announcements they're doing at once. I'm glad to see that they're sticking a little closer to a tighter schedule than the other. What is what is Jeff Keighley's called? Summer Games Fest. So this one, yes, definitely Summer Games Fest is summer of gaming is different. Yes. So I'm glad that theirs is a little more condensed. I mean, it's still pretty spread out, but at least there will be kind of exciting days because, you know,
00:20:23
Speaker
E3, like, even if there's not a crazy announcement, it gets hyped up because of the other announcements, like you're, you're just running on that high. So it's like, hopefully, IGN will kind of capture, capture that feeling. As far as the specific announcements on there, there's nothing that really like sticks out to me just yet. Yeah, so they have these IGN Expo debut things, which I think are kind of
00:20:50
Speaker
Obviously not, it won't be as big as E3 was, but I think a lot of the bigger publishers, this is kind of where we might see some of their stuff. So they have one on June 5th, one on June 8th, and one on June 9th. So that's kind of E3-ish, where it's all like in the span of a week and they're going to have exclusive reveals and trailers and all that kind of stuff on those three days at least.
00:21:16
Speaker
And you would think somewhere around their Xbox is going to do their big blowout thing. I mean, that'd be my opinion. But sometime in June, it's going to happen with Xbox. So we'll get all their hardware stuff. And especially if Sony's is within the week or the next week and a half or something like that, I can see it being the beginning. Yeah.
00:21:43
Speaker
This fans the fire that Sony is, in fact, having something on the third, which we'll talk about that more. But I mean, I think that's where this whole conference gets a lot more interesting if it's two days after Sony does a low out. Yeah. And that and that may be we can kind of bleed this over to our topic of the week, which is the PS5 event reveal is rumored
00:22:10
Speaker
There's been a bunch of rumors going around. So a couple of days ago, the rumor going around was basically the beginning of June or whatever. Sometime in the beginning of June, it's going to happen. And then there are people saying, whatever that Tuesday is, like June 9th or something like that. Yeah, June 9th is the date internally that they're going to do the big blowout. But then apparently that got delayed. And they're like, oh, that
00:22:38
Speaker
date isn't the real date anymore, it's getting delayed, but not somebody, some mentor said, not by weeks, just by a matter of days. They're like, okay, well, maybe it's like the second week of June.
When Will PS5 Be Revealed?
00:22:47
Speaker
And then the last two days, basically since we're recording this is, has been that they're heavily considering June 3rd as their reveal event. So yeah, if that were to happen, that kind of makes sense.
00:23:04
Speaker
if this all flows together, like if June 3 is the PS5 reveal date, because June 5 is one of IGN's supposedly bigger days with all these unannounced games. And so if they're coming to the PS5, or maybe even a PS5 exclusive or something is in one of these IGN things, the first, like the fifth through the ninth or whatever. So they want to go ahead and get that PS5 revealed kind of out there.
00:23:33
Speaker
so that these third-party people can talk about the fact that they have PS5 stuff coming. And if they have exclusive stuff, a lot of PS4 stuff throughout the years, especially games like Destiny or Call of Duty or whatever, was like, yeah, you can play the beta first on PS5, or you're going to get exclusive missions or exclusive outfits or whatever on PS5. So hopefully that's what's happening. Any chance Overwatch 2 is
00:24:03
Speaker
Coming to one of those, not exclusive, but coming to one of the systems first? I don't think so, but what I could see is somebody doing a beta for their game on the PS4. Sure. Like if Overwatch, if Blizzard's thing was like, we're partnering with PlayStation to do an Overwatch 2 beta on the PS4 or whatever, but it's like a PS5 game. It'll be on PS4 as well, but you know.
00:24:35
Speaker
But we'll see but I'm gonna read this a little bit from games bot Confirm details on the PlayStation fire remain very limited but that might be set to a change next week Sony reportedly intends to host a digital event on
00:24:53
Speaker
to showcase the next-gen PS5 console and some of its games. Sources close to the matter say the event will take place on June 3rd, but that could be subject changed. The report published by Bloomberg, which Jason Schreier is now at Bloomberg, that's why we will see Bloomberg a million times, and collaborated with VentureBeat states that Sony won't reveal every aspect of the new console in the first presentation for it,
00:25:20
Speaker
with the company planning additional events throughout the coming months, it's unclear whether the price or release date would be revealed or exactly which games, if any, will be showcased. Still given the lack of information surrounding the system, any news will be welcome. So we wanted to
00:25:39
Speaker
I don't know if you're listening to this, how far, if you're new or whatever, but we did a 2020 predictions episode at the beginning of January or beginning of February sometime, basically for all the Corona stuff hit. Don't go listen to it. It's all out the window. Oh, yeah, you should. I'm looking at our Google Doc here and there's some things on here. So in case the PS5 reveal is
00:26:09
Speaker
Wednesday June 3rd would be before our next podcast we wanted to go ahead and just do a semi like little predictions thing we all have are gonna have three predictions and Whether it's next week or the week after whatever we'll come back and kind of see how we fared if you will And then keep in mind like this these predictions are only for this specific event so for example if we think
00:26:40
Speaker
that God of War is going to be announced for the PS5 or whatever. It's only for this event. So if we think it's going to happen for this event, say
PS5's Backwards Compatibility and Game Enhancements
00:26:48
Speaker
it. If not, again, we do have that 2020 predictions episode, which we talked about games and release date and all that kind of stuff, too, as well. But who wants to go first? Matthew, you said you had basically three, so you might want to go first.
00:27:08
Speaker
three, maybe four. I have, well, there's, there's a couple that I don't think y'all will have on there. Uh, actually, um, I'll go ahead and I'll go with one of those. I think that the biggest takeaway from this announcement reveal event or whatever, and the biggest, um, kind of like the moment where the whole, this is how we share games moment from this PlayStation event is going to be.
00:27:31
Speaker
they're going to just basically say that the PlayStation Network stays the same. If you have a game purchase in the PlayStation Network, you just straight up go and download it on the PS5 and you can play that PS4 version of that game. I don't think that there's going to be very much of a like, OK, you have to open this app to play the PS4 games, you know, within this app or whatever. You know, I'm saying to this different section of the OS or whatever. I think they're just going to come out and it's going to be
00:27:59
Speaker
as backwards compatible as anything has ever been, as far as consoles go. And I think that would be their whole, this is how we share games moment. Because that would be, people would be talking about that like crazy. So. I'm going to go ahead and give one of mine here, then, because it kind of runs
00:28:26
Speaker
Okay. I'd say no thoughts on that, but yours kind of is similar or has something to do with it. Yeah. So mine is that backwards compatibility will be mentioned, but it won't be talked about hardly at all. For example, um, I think they'll pretty much come out and be like, maybe it's connected to the PS network. Maybe not. I don't know. But they'll be like, yeah, you're, if you like, you have the division two, you played on a PS four, like,
00:28:57
Speaker
You have that on your PS5, you have that on your account or whatever, and you can play it and whatever. They're just going to kind of give that. I don't think they're going to do a deep dive into like what Xbox's kind of deal is, where it's like the power of the Xbox Series X will even improve.
00:29:16
Speaker
your old games kind of thing, like they've been talking about this week. Whereas if you play an old, whether it's a 360 game or an Xbox One game, the power of the Series X will even make those games look better and run better and all this kind of stuff. I don't think they're going to do all of that. I think they're just going to be like, yeah, it's backwards compatible. And I guess
00:29:36
Speaker
They're not going to say this, but it's kind of just like when the console comes out, you'll figure out what that means, I guess. If it's like what you're saying or not. That's really interesting because I have as one of mine that I think a large portion of this, they'll talk about enhancements to existing games. Matt, I agree with you. I think it's going to be where if you have it digitally,
00:29:59
Speaker
Already it'll have it you have it that being said What kind of gives me thought that they're gonna do this is the fact that they've announced a few games for PC death stranding and horizon zero dawn I bet those PC versions are essentially them trying different specs to figure out what their higher consoles can handle and
00:30:21
Speaker
And if they're already creating the assets for it or already creating profiles for a higher performance machine, I imagine they'll use those same profiles on a PS5. Like any game that currently supports dynamic resolution, where it can lower the resolution if the game gets too intense, theoretically has the possibility to go the other way, where it can dynamically go past that point.
00:30:49
Speaker
So I think they're going to talk about that. And I think you'll hear them mention a lot of first party games, but I think they will be very quiet on the last of us because they want people with PS fours to buy it and not wait for PS five. Yeah. However, however you have somebody like me who, um, the PS five will be my PS four pro, you know, like I have an original day one PS four.
00:31:16
Speaker
And if I can buy The Last of Us and play it in 4K, you know, as if I had a PS4 Pro, then let's do that. I'm in the same boat. Yeah. So you want me to put that down as yours, like, enhanced? Basically, they're going to talk about enhanced, like, backwards compatibility, but it's also, like, enhanced for older games, kind of like what Xbox has talked about? Yep. I think they, my prediction is essentially that,
00:31:44
Speaker
kind of like the opposite of yours. I think they're going to lean into it so that they make it very clear that they do have backwards compatibility because right now people seem to be on the fence and, you know, it looks like Xbox has the wind. So I think they're going to come out strong. I will say it'll be all or nothing. It'll be what Andrew said, or it'll be something along the lines. I don't know. I don't. I actually don't really have a tick one way or another. If it's going to, if they're going to like kind of enhance older games or not, but
00:32:15
Speaker
My prediction of itself is that they're just going to say something pretty generic to where, yeah, everything's backwards compatibility, but they're not going to do any kind of dive into it. They might. Yeah. Behind the scenes, behind closed doors, like showing Spider-Man running on the PS5. So like, I just think there's some some reason for that. Spider-Man, Horizon and Death Stranding have all been running on different hardware than the PS4.
00:32:46
Speaker
For a half a second there, I thought you were saying Spider-Man, like, colon Horizons. I was like, oh, not that game. What game is Spider-Man Horizons? That's where he fights the robot dinosaurs. I hope I'm right, and then, like, the beginning of June, they do an event with IGN. They just talk about backwards compatibility, just so I can be right for this event. Like, haha, I told you. It's possible. I think the one thing that I'm pretty confident on is that they're not
00:33:16
Speaker
going to come out and talk about backwards compatibility for 45 seconds and then move on to something else. It's going to be, they're going to talk about it for a while, or they're just going to mention it. It's also backwards compatible. And that's about it. Yeah. All right, Matthew will give us, uh, your second one. Ooh. Well, I guess we're all gonna, let's do it this way.
Will Sony Announce PS5 Pricing?
00:33:37
Speaker
Let's do, cause I know some of everybody's going to have a take on this.
00:33:41
Speaker
uh, price and date announcements. Do we get them here and do you have a guess as to what they will be? I think everybody has, I'm assuming all three of us have that on our list somewhere. I have it on my list. Like I have ideas, but I don't think it's going to happen next week. Yeah. Correct. I don't think there'll be a price, uh, or a release date. I'm absolutely in agreement. That was what I was going to say. And I just didn't want to say that for one of mine because I know we all had that on the list.
00:34:11
Speaker
And that's probably the most pressing question anyway, so. I will say for the record, November 20th, $4.99. That's what it's going to be. I'm still of the opinion it's going to not be $500. November 20th. So on our 2020 predictions episode, to have our doc pulled up here, Marty did some of these questions, but me and Matthew and Chibi did others as well. Right.
00:34:40
Speaker
Matthew, you said, as far as price goes, that it would be $4.49 and it would release October the 9th. I think it's either going to be $4.49 or $4.00. I don't think they're going five. You said November 20th, Jason. I did. Yeah, she said November 10th and I said November 13th, but we both had it at $4.99. I would definitely move mine back to November or
00:35:10
Speaker
maybe later in October because of Corona and everything. I would have, that makes sense to me, but, um, do y'all have any predictions as, as your three that you had written down that were specific game related? I have two that I can say. That was my other one. And I've said it, I've, I've kind of been the champion of this all along and I've said it a million times on our shows, but I think, I think this is when you see Gran Turismo, uh, as their announcement.
00:35:42
Speaker
Uh, I think in this first, whatever this thing is that just, again, racing games are gorgeous, gorgeous games. Gran Turismo games have always looked beautiful compared to everything else on the systems that they were on. They come out with a Gran Turismo game. Yeah. Maybe everybody doesn't get hyped about, Oh yay, Gran Turismo, but I think it would make everybody hyped about, Oh snap, this system looks good. Um, so just to make it a little bit more interesting for your thing, cause you put Gran Turismo as well in our 2020.
00:36:12
Speaker
Right. Um, do you think, are you predicting it's a launch day game? I think so. Yeah. My, my prediction, my prediction specifically to do with this is that they, this, this is where you see it for the first time. That's my prediction is it gets announced here at this thing, but I do think it's going to be a launch game. Yeah. That makes sense to me. I agree with that. I think.
00:36:38
Speaker
I think they'll do like it was, wasn't the PS three or the PS four where they did a, a like scaled back game before they released the full version.
Potential PS5 Launch Titles
00:36:48
Speaker
I know they did like almost like a glorified demo. It was a four started as a beast pick. Yes. It's not. Yeah. They need to, they need redemption from that.
00:37:02
Speaker
Well, that may happen. If they did that, I think it'd be more of a case, which I don't necessarily think this is going to happen, but I think it'd be more of a case of maybe the demo is on PS4. It's like a prologue. I didn't put this down as one of my predictions, but I thought about it in it being like,
00:37:26
Speaker
The PS, they're not going to necessarily do what Xbox is doing. It'll be backwards compatible with PS4, and a lot of games, especially third party games, are going to come out on PS4 and PS5. But I think their first party games are just going to be PS5 games. I don't think Gran Turismo will be on PS4, or Horizon 2 will be on PS4, whatever their launch games are that are first party. Sure, but I feel like they could put out some sort of prologue demo type deal to get hype.
00:37:52
Speaker
built for it. You know what I mean? What do you think now that more games are going into a service, do you think Gran Turismo could go to a one game early on in the generation and then they just release content for it throughout? Gran Turismo World. The Gran Turismo game is out now. Sport is basically a game of the service. Yeah. And I think that's why it's not done as well because it's not as good. Gran Turismo Sports Sporty Edition 2.
00:38:23
Speaker
It'd be interesting to see. All right, Jason, hit me with your...
00:38:29
Speaker
Second one. So, yeah, my second one is actually kind of in line with Matt, and that's that I think the only games we'll see from first party studios that are going to be anywhere near launch window are going to be a Gran Turismo game and either a game from Gorilla Games, which does Horizon and Killzone, or there's a chance, a small slipper of a chance that Insomniac has somehow turned around another game in two years after Spider-Man.
00:38:57
Speaker
which I don't know if that's the case. Like I said, the only thing that really makes me think that is that they had Spider-Man running on the PS5 like eight, nine months ago. So I'm wondering if they are one of the first teams that actually got the game or they got the PS5 dev kit. Um, so I could see like something to announce.
00:39:17
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Maybe they have, maybe they can announce that, but it's not a launch title. You know what I mean? If Gorilla games has something, I think the big question is, is it, is it a horizon sequel or is it kill zone? Cause kill zone is probably faster to make and you got to think anything that's near the launch window is going to sell like a maximum of four or five, 6 million copies in that first little while. Like Nintendo is really the only company that has legs where a game that's released can still sell a ton of copies 18 months later.
00:39:48
Speaker
So I feel like they wouldn't do a Horizon game because it wouldn't meet the sales of the last one if it came out near launch. So I think we can see another Killzone game. It's possible. Killzone was a release game for PS4. It was. Shadow Fall. And it was fine. It didn't knock anybody's socks off. It is intriguing only because Xbox is going to have Halo at launch.
00:40:17
Speaker
So I don't know if when like if they started making this game for PS5, it obviously I think would have been made before they even announced Halo Infinite was going to be a launch title. So it wouldn't necessarily be like, oh, they have Halo, we need to have a shooter. But that could be good, but it could be bad if they decided to have a first person shooter at launch.
00:40:43
Speaker
That's true. Yeah, it would look bad against Halo because was it Killzone 2 that came out with Halo 3? Unless Halo sucks and those Halo's real bad again. I think original Killzone came out alongside Halo 2. One of them came out around the same time as a Halo game and just was forgotten about as fast as it came. Yeah. Yeah.
00:41:07
Speaker
Well, I'm going to go to my second one here, which is that the controller will be showing off a lot. Like they're going to talk about the freaking triggers and whatever else it's going to do and all that stuff. No price and they won't talk about battery life at all. Because I got a feeling this battery life is going to suck just as bad as the ones that now.
00:41:34
Speaker
Do you think they'll give a justification for having the light bar still on it? I don't know. That's part of the reason why I don't think the battery life may be improved. I thought they didn't know something about the battery life being
00:41:51
Speaker
But like the battery life for the PS4 controller brand new is what? How long do you think? Five hours maybe. It's supposed to be six, six to eight, something like that or six. Six is involved. When it's brand new, maybe for like the first couple months, it'll hit six or whatever. But like right now it's- My controller definitely did. It was definitely six to eight for a while. Yeah, I've had this gold one. I've had the black one for a long time.
00:42:21
Speaker
I've had this gold one for maybe a year. And it's almost like all every controller I've had after about a year is the same thing where it's maybe three hours and then it dies. Because that stupid light bar, three to four, something like that, it's kind of what it hits. But brand new, if it's six to eight, maybe they come out and say, you know, like, oh, it's a 10 hour battery, which you know, that's real great. But if it does,
00:42:50
Speaker
what these controllers do, and then after a year, it's like, well, it's really only like five, but I don't think they're gonna say anything about battery life, which is gonna be like a question mark coming out of it. It's gonna be like, oh, God, not gonna say anything about price, because if it's as epic as some of these rumors claim it to be, maybe it's 60 bucks, maybe they look at Nintendo, they're like, oh, Nintendo gives away their controllers for like 80 bucks, so maybe we'll just have it at 80 bucks.
00:43:18
Speaker
But I don't think, no price and no battery life info will be shown, but they're gonna really show off the controller quite a bit. They're gonna try and dazzle us. That's a really, really gorgeous looking controller, so.
PS5 Controller Features and Game Pass Competitor
00:43:32
Speaker
And then, I don't think it'll happen in this one, but there's almost definitely a black version. Oh yeah. Oh yeah, oh yeah. If not, we write it in the street. The DualShock 4 is four to eight hours, is what it says. Yeah, I'm definitely on more of the foreside.
00:43:48
Speaker
I I am now but I get I guarantee you mine lasted Six to eight hours. Yeah. Yeah, I remember when I got when I got the gold one brand new I was like, oh man thing that's just not and had to charge this thing like a whole day. Yeah That is not the case now All right, Matthew do you have another Well, I had The date and the game so I kind of put those
00:44:16
Speaker
I pose those as questions as well. Gotcha. So yeah, I assumed that they wouldn't. One of mine was just that they wouldn't announce price or date and then the other one was Gran Turismo. All right, so I got both of those down for you. And then whatever the one I said that was first. Oh, the PS network. Yeah, the PS network. It's going to be all backwards compatible and all that stuff.
00:44:41
Speaker
Yeah. All right. Jason, you got a third one too. My last one is kind of my wild card and that's that I think they will announce a real competitor to like game pass, um, like Sony's equivalent. And I think they'll come out the gate swinging, swinging with, uh, you think they're going to just keep the name PS now and try and do that or is he going to be like,
00:45:05
Speaker
I fear that they're probably using the same name for two different products. I don't know. I don't know how they do it. But I think I think that's going to go in with their backwards compatibility to say like, Hey, we can do this too.
00:45:21
Speaker
Plus plus plus plus times minus I mean that's what they did with kind of like the the ps3 like You know Xbox alive was the thing for a whole generation longer and the ps3 is like we can do it as well and obviously it wasn't as good but it was like 80% there and
00:45:42
Speaker
So I think you'll probably see the same thing where it's like they're introducing a generation later and they'll probably stay a couple years behind Microsoft in terms of like what they're offering is, but I think they're going to have a subscription service for games that you don't stream, but you actually download the installer onto your PS5. All right. There's so many questions I'm going to ask about this, but
00:46:09
Speaker
I'm just going to put down game pass competitor because it's going to go like a million different ways. Yeah. So do you think it can, do you think it's going to be like with Xbox now, it was like, we have Xbox, uh, gold and then we have game pass. And it was like that for a while, but then they got smart and they were like, Hey, we'll just put them together. Do you think this is going to be like already put together thing? Like maybe they just go.
00:46:35
Speaker
If you have PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Plus is going to be $10 a month now or whatever instead of $7 a month or whatever it is. But included in PlayStation Plus now, you get the two free games a month like normal, but then you also get all the first party games that are whatever, basically doing the same thing Xbox is. Or do you think it's going to be like a separate thing? Kind of like how PS Now is separate at the moment.
00:47:06
Speaker
See, that's a good question because I think I can see them allowing everything else that PS Plus gets you that's not free games to just be included with the console. But at the same time, I'm like, no, they're a company. They're greedy. They're going to make money. So they're not going to. They're not going to give you anything more for free. But at the same time, I don't know, like.
00:47:30
Speaker
I don't know how they do it. And I don't think they'll probably go as far as Microsoft by, you know, like day and date releases for big games, but I can see them saying like, Oh, three months ago, we released this AAA game. Now you can get it on our service. But as far as cost, I think you'll probably have PS plus exist. And then you'll have this as like a, you know, you joke, but like a plus plus like PS premium or something. PS plus pro. Oh, yeah. I'm kind of along the same lines.
00:47:58
Speaker
I can't fathom a world where PlayStation announces a Game Pass competitor, and it's like, yeah, all of our first party games are going to come to this Game Pass competitor or whatever. I just cannot see that happening, which on the other side makes Xbox Game Pass even more crazy. It's the fact that you can buy a Series X, and if you already have an Xbox, you already have Game Pass, and if not, you can just be like,
00:48:27
Speaker
You don't have to go there and buy Halo and Forza on top of your Series X, and it's been like a gajillion dollars. You can just buy the Series X, pay the $15 a month for Game Pass Ultimate, and you already have those games. And I truly believe Microsoft giving games away like day and date like that is only because they're so far behind Sony in terms of sales. I think if they were caught up, it would be a delayed release on Game Pass.
00:48:57
Speaker
I think that's crazy to me that it's just crazy to me that you can, we live in a world where a new Xbox console comes out and you can just buy it and you just have Halo. You don't even really have to pay for it. Yeah. Um, and that'd be, that'd be crazy if, if something could do that. But then the problem with that is they're going to get torn a new one from all these media outlets. If, if it's not that, if they're like, yeah, they have this game pass competitor, but it's not as good because your first party
00:49:26
Speaker
games aren't included or whatever. And then people are going to be like, well, they have a bunch of good ones and Xbox doesn't. So that's why. But I put that one down. What do I want to do? I had my mic muted, so that's why you couldn't hear me. That is correct. I can see that happening, Jason, and I would not be surprised at all if that happens. I hope it does not. I'm against that model personally, because I think that
00:49:55
Speaker
The fact that PlayStation doesn't have something like that means that their PS Plus games that they give away are higher quality of games than games with gold on Xbox, because their value comes from the Games Pass games that come down. And if they want to compete with that, I mean, they could just come out and say, hey, you know how we've been giving you all two free games every month? Well, we're giving three now, or four, or whatever, fill in the blank.
00:50:23
Speaker
And you get some I mean in credit we just talked about the plus games. I mean Call of Duty game and Star Wars game That's that's a high quality of free game for a month and I wonder how I hope they stick with that model I wonder how difficult it would be though if they had a game pass competitor or even Xbox would their game pass if they just got rid of the two free games a month thing and just put it on their games pass like
00:50:51
Speaker
I wonder how much more money would have to be spent and how much more work would have to be done for them to, for like Xbox to just be like, instead of us giving away, like kind of, they have Red Dead Redemption 2 on there now. So it's like, instead of us giving away Red Dead 2 for people that have Xbox Gold, most, why don't we just put it on Games Pass for six months or whatever it's going to be. Same with PlayStation. If they were to do that, it's like, well,
00:51:19
Speaker
Yeah, you're gonna have Battlefront and Call of Duty free for a month, but how much more difficult would it be for them to just be like, listen, we're not doing free games anymore, but we have this Game Pass thing, and then it would be Battlefront's on there for a lot longer. Maybe, but that's the negative side of Games Pass, is that this game's really cool. Oh, in two weeks it comes off of Games Pass. Well, I better not start it now then.
00:51:48
Speaker
Like, that's the negative part of Games Pass, whereas the Games of Gold or PS Plus, you know, it's just, all I gotta do is just add to my library that month, and that game is there forever. And that's a big deal. I could be completely wrong, but I don't, because I don't have the numbers, but I feel like the majority of people, like, I know I do. Even games that I meant to play, like,
00:52:16
Speaker
Sonic generations and stuff like that has been free on PS Plus. It's like, oh yeah, I want to play that. So I add it to my library and I just never touch it. Yep. But you have that. But I mean, I have the option, but I'm never going to. It's never really going to be played. Maybe, maybe not. But that the fact that you have that option is a selling point. Could be. But if they look at the numbers and they're like, yeah, most people
00:52:44
Speaker
Just play the game either once or twice and never play it again, or they just put it to the library and it's never downloaded. If they're just like, hey, let's just get rid of this and just put it on this Game Pass thing. But we shall see. For my last one, so I'm going to, I had the console would be showing off no data prize, but I'm not doing that one. And then I had one.
00:53:12
Speaker
that was only launch window games will be shown, but I'm not gonna do that one. Not with Sony, they'll show you stuff that's years out. Yeah, I believe they will do that, but I don't think it would be for this specific thing. Yeah, maybe not here, yeah. Yeah, I think, unless they end with something crazy, but maybe they do it, maybe it's a bigger blowout than I think. But then I had a Silent Hill remake, but I'm not gonna do that one.
00:53:40
Speaker
but I'm going to do
Resident Evil 8 Reveal with VR Support?
00:53:41
Speaker
something close to it. That's my last one, which is they will reveal probably in the show with it, because it's not necessarily a first-party thing, but they'll do the Resident Evil 8 reveal. I'd be down with that. Whatever the new Resident Evil, the actual next Resident Evil game, Resident Evil 8, they're going to be the one that reveals it. I can see that. I can see that. I don't think it'll be VR.
00:54:09
Speaker
I really want it to be, I really hope it is, but I don't think it will be. I think it will be because that was, as far as I'm concerned, that was the best PR for VR on PlayStation for the PSVR. That game, I mean, everybody that played it in VR, yourself included, was like, that was incredible in VR. Yeah. So I don't think they can afford not to. And it seems like they did it fairly,
00:54:41
Speaker
easily for them, you know what I mean? Like it seems like it, they didn't have, there wasn't a lot of glitches or issues. It was kind of, oh, also you can play VR. Yeah. And there's been VR games announcements that's been really scarce as well as the, as PS4 games, just because they're ramping up for all this. So it may be a people may be like, why, why is the PS VR, you know, backwards compatible other than if there's no like games coming out for it. Because besides Iron Man, I don't think they've announced anything that's beyond,
00:55:12
Speaker
I mean, not that PlayStation has announced, maybe like third party little things here and there, but I don't think there's anything of great substance that they've announced that's coming out for PSVR. So this might be the time where we're like, well, now you understand why it's backwards compatible, because Resident Evil 8's gonna be on there. Which I would be down for. And if it's not, they're dead to me. I'm just kidding. I'm ready for, what about Resident Evil 8 being
00:55:42
Speaker
a la five and six co-op in VR. And blow my mind even more. I don't think it's going to happen. Single players where it's going to be at for Resident Evil for a while, I think. I think it'll pretty much be the exact same. The exact same game that seven was just like a completely different story. Actually, there was a rumor that the main character, like it's just a continuation of him, which he might be. I don't know.
00:56:11
Speaker
But I shatted for it either way. That happens. He's a very unlucky person. That's true. Most people in the Resident Evil world are pretty unlucky. Any last predictions or comments about anything we've talked about in this episode before we end this thing out?
00:56:31
Speaker
It's a real wild card, but it is that dual sense controller like essentially the haptics in it are the same that like the switch joy cons use. I would love a new luminous game that vibrates to the rhythm of the music with it. I don't know if you all played those games, but very little. They are incredibly fun when you when you like really get into the soundtrack and that game with headphones is amazing and for it to
00:57:00
Speaker
vibrate to the music would just be incredible. In fact, the one on switch does that. I don't know if either of you all knew this, the the switch luminous game you has an option for you to put joy cons on your shoes and it will like basically the joy cons in your hands and the joy cons on your feet will have their own vibration patterns to go along with the music. You know, I've always I've been looking for a reason to put joy comes on my feet. So I mean, I don't know why more games don't do it.
00:57:31
Speaker
One person needs to use for Joy-Con playing a game. So they have the same like haptic feedback. So they're going to put one to switch on the PlayStation five. It's a game. Yeah. Do does Sony announce a new Mario game? That's the question. That's true. So on our 2020 predictions episode, we had two triple A launch games for Xbox and two triple A for PS5 or whatever. Matthew, you said Gran Turismo, but you also said Lego Marvel Avengers.
00:58:00
Speaker
some sort of new Lego Marvel Avengers type game. I could still see that. Keep your eyes. I would not be shocked on that one. I put besides right. We all put Horizon two for the most part, but I said Street Fighter six, but they just came out with like a Street Fighter five or announced like a Street Fighter five mega uber DLC or edition or something.
00:58:25
Speaker
where they're getting like three new fighters and stuff on there. So I don't think that that's going to happen anymore. But just in case, I thought that would spout those numbers out there. And yeah, you said for release date, just in case they say it, I had November 13th. Originally you had no October 9th, but Corona. And then should be said November 12th. And we were all at 500 bucks and you were at 450. Yep.
00:58:56
Speaker
And then, this one is funny, we thought when the PS5 would be announced, I said May 19th, it would be announced. So it was not correct on that. You said July 14th. So as of now, yes. Man, shoot. I know things, guys. As of now, if we were playing Price is Right rules, you're still in it. It should be said June 23rd, so.
00:59:27
Speaker
It's not too far out. And then Marty said March slash April is what he thought. So he was very wrong. He took a six of the calendar. He didn't, he didn't account for coronavirus like he should have. Like the rest of us did. We're all wrong. We have X-Bike Series X when we thought it would be announced and we all said E3 press conference. Yep. It would have been I think.
00:59:57
Speaker
Oh, it would have been. This is funny. But we're going to end this thing out. We're going to thank you all for listening. Again, new podcasts upload every Friday.
