Understanding the Passover Feast

00:00:54
Speaker
We're so excited for you to join us today. Let's get right to it. We are preparing for the Lord's Passover. This is the biblical feast at this springtime of the year. It's one of God's three main feasts associated with harvest. It was a time to recognize the provision and the providence of God and how he delivers his people from strong enemies. And he still does today. ah Passover is appointed to occur around the barley harvest in Israel and coincides with the deliverance of Israel from Egyptian captivity.
00:01:27
Speaker
Amen. Israel was directed to keep the feast at the appointed time and in the appropriate season. Now, that's so important that God directs when God has a festival for us to keep. He will tell us when to do it.
00:01:43
Speaker
And then he will tell us how to do it in the book of Numbers. And I i know I'm going quickly today. there's a lot of material in Numbers chapter nine, verses one through five.

Passover's Relevance Today

00:01:52
Speaker
And the Lord spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai in the first month of the second year, after they will come out of the land of Egypt, saying, let the children of Israel also keep the Passover at his appointed season.
00:02:10
Speaker
Listen, when? In the 14th day of this month at And for those of us who may not understand what even is not evening, evening and even aren't the same thing. Even is from the Hebrew word Arab, which means dusk.
00:02:27
Speaker
It is a time when the sun is set, but yet there's still light ah over the horizon. And this is when this day begins. Not in the middle of the day, not in the middle of the night, night not at 12 midnight, but at the going down of the sun, a man in this period of time. He says, you shall keep it.
00:02:47
Speaker
and is a pointed season according to all the rites of it and according to all the ceremonies thereof shall ye keep it And Moses spake unto the children of Israel that they should keep the Passover. Moses said, keep it.
00:03:00
Speaker
In verse 5, he says, And they kept the Passover, listen, when, on the 14th day of the first month at even, in the wilderness of Sinai,
00:03:12
Speaker
According to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel. Now this year in 2026, ABAP 14 begins at sundown on March 31st. And we're preparing, amen, that night to do the sacraments of the Lord, the peewashing and communion. Amen. And so oftentimes we are told these are Old Testament festivals that they don't apply. But the reality is, is that Paul tells us to keep it.
00:03:43
Speaker
He tells us to keep the feast. Now, we can we can argue about the leaven. We can argue about these things. But the the directive is very clear. In 1 Corinthians 5, verse 7, Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened.
00:04:03
Speaker
For even Christ, our Passover, is sacrificed for us. Verse 8. Therefore, let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. So he's telling us.
00:04:20
Speaker
Amen. That we keep it the way that the Bible had directed because we take out the old leaven. It says not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness. So we have to take out the natural leaven and then we have to reach within ourselves. Find the leaveness in our heart and take that out as well.
00:04:38
Speaker
If we look at the feast, there are actually two defined memorials. Now, those arguments about the first day, when it begins, how many Sabbaths are in the feast. truly believe that there are three days when we are to do no work.
00:04:53
Speaker
The first day and the last day, we have to do no servile work. But the 15th day, if we believe John, it was a high day or a holy day. And on that day ah is the Sabbath of the feast. And this is all necessary because we don't need to know how to count from that date ah in order to get to the feast of Pentecost.
00:05:15
Speaker
Amen. God defines specific dates and times to memorialize the feast. The Passover zone is in the 14th day, and the Sabbath of the feast itself is on the

00:05:26
Speaker
15th day. Each has a specific meaning.
00:05:28
Speaker
Amen. This is why I can't let folk take that from me, because they both have a meaning within the salvation plan of God and in the redemption ah through our Lord Jesus Christ and the blood that was shed.
00:05:41
Speaker
In Leviticus chapter 23, ah verse 4 through 8. Verse 6 says, these are the feast of the lord even holy commonicages which ye shall proclaim in their season in the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the lord's passover look what verse six says and This is in addition to the 14th day.
00:06:04
Speaker
And on the 15th day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord. And he then he tells us seven days you must eat unleavened bread, seven ah days you must eat unleavened bread. And we know on the 14th day is the Lord's Passover when they ate the lamb with unleavened bread. So we know that the the beginning of the feast, and even according to Mark chapter 14, verse 12, tells us that in the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the lamb. So ah this is part of the seven days. In the first day, you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no servile work, thereing but you shall offer an offering made by fire. It's not just a memorial. It is a day when we're to...
00:06:45
Speaker
not do where but you shall offer an offer made by firering to the lord seven days So seven days. We ought to give God the glory. We ought to offer him the sacrifice of praise and allow it to be consumed with fire, that the smoke of it will rise to the Lord's nostrils and be pleasing unto him.
00:07:04
Speaker
Amen. That continues in the seventh day is an holy convocation. You shall do no serve out work therein. that John chapter 19 then speaks about a holy Sabbath, a Sabbath, a high day. In in verse 31, the Jews, therefore, because it was the preparation, Passover is the preparation. It has to be a preparation because Passover It is when the Passover lamb is slain and prepared and roasted and eaten so that it has to be a day of preparation, that the body should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day. And this is where the world gets confused because they believe this is referring to the seventh day Sabbath. But he goes on to say for that Sabbath,
00:07:54
Speaker
was unique. That Sabbath day was a high day. They saw Pilate and their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. We understand Passover, regardless of how it's celebrated in the world today. Passover was not a celebration of the crucifixion. the slam The lamb being slain was necessary to prepare and provide the blood for the Lord to see. It was just the application of the blood that we celebrate in the Passover. While the crucifixion occurred on that day, but the crucifixion has no effect if God does not see you covered by the blood.
00:08:35
Speaker
He killed the firstborn males in Egypt. The Passover was clearly a nighttime event. We should therefore celebrate it as a nighttime event. Amen. Exodus chapter 12, verse 13. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you and the plague shall not fall.
00:08:58
Speaker
be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land. this day unto This day shall be unto you for a memorial, and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations." And then verse ah chapter 12, verse 29, it says, "...and it came to pass that at midnight the Lord smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt." so If it's a Passover, we have to celebrate the event of God seeing the blood and passing over.
00:09:26
Speaker
And he sees the blood because Israel had the faith and the trust in God to apply it to the lentil and the doorpost.

Preparing for Passover and Invitation

00:09:35
Speaker
Amen. So here we understand that it would be implausible or impossible for Israel to have come out that same night. You need two separate nights ah because in Exodus chapter 12, verse 22 says,
00:09:48
Speaker
ah He says, you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, strike the lentil and the two side posts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. So you see, they could not have come out that night ah of the Passover because they were commanded to stay in until the morning. Amen. So then we have the 15th day, which is the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
00:10:17
Speaker
oh The Feast of Unleavened Bread on Abel Anissa and 15 was to be observed because it was the night they actually came out. This is the completion of your deliverance. God has to ah separate you from your enemy. He has to defeat the enemy so that you can be released. But then you have to get up and come out. And it's the same as it is today. God, the blood will come and God will separate us from sin, but you've got to get up and get away from sin. Amen.
00:10:49
Speaker
Amen. So Numbers 33 and 3, and they departed from Ramesses in the first month On the 15th day of the first month, listen, when on the morrow, it's important for us to understand that ah term on the morrow, because it's not the same as the next morning. Morrow means mochoroth, which means the the next day after the Passover. Exodus 12 and 17. And you shall observe the feast of unleavened bread for in this same day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt.
00:11:20
Speaker
Amen. So ah we are preparing for this feast. Amen. First Corinthians chapter 10, verse three tells us that they all did all eat the same spiritual meat and did all drink the same spiritual drink.
00:11:36
Speaker
For they drink from that spiritual rock that followed them. And that rock was Jesus. So we're preparing for that on that night. so I would invite you to join us on the night of March 31st, celebrate the sacraments of Passover. And I want to tell you, it's not too late for you to secure our book, Understanding the Biblical Feast.
00:11:56
Speaker
Reach out to the church. They'll give you details. Amen. And then they'll respond and tell you how to secure that. Well, God bless you. We thank God for you and we love you so very, very much. Pray that you will enjoy your upcoming feast. Until then, grace and peace be unto you.
