Hello, everybody. Welcome back to The Amazing Rewatch. This is season 13, episode four of The Amazing Race. And yeah, when you any updates? I'm kind of feeling like I'm going to throw up at any moment. So I'm hoping that I can make it through this episode. I've been going back and forth all day on like feeling OK and then feeling a little bit nauseous and then

Well, we left off last episode in Bolivia and Kent and Tina were the first team to ken sorry ken and tio are the first team depart at 12.33 a.m. And it says, fly 6,900 miles to Auckland and New Zealand, then drive to Gulf Harbor, and once you arrive, untie a Gordian knot to get your next clue.

Like I'm surprised we're going that direction. way Because we both said England, or not England, Europe. yeah And they have always, when they left South America, they've always gone to Europe or Africa. One time that we went the other direction, was that season 10, I think? I don't remember. with ah the Yeah, they went to China first. I'm pretty sure it was Dustin and Candace's first season. So yeah, 10. Yeah. Yeah. China first. So, but yeah, when they usually, when they go to South America, then usually the next jump is either to Africa or Europe. So this is a little change up, which is nice. and So we then have, okay. So a Gordian knot, it kind of, it's like a big ball of rope.

Yeah. How would you even tie that thing? I know. I don't know how it looks crazy, but, um, all the other teams are pretty close together, leaving Tony and Dallas at 12 59. Terence and Sarah at one Oh five. Marissa and Brooke at one Oh five. Aja and tie at one Oh five. There are they all one Oh five. One Oh four. One Oh five. One Oh six. One Oh seven. One Oh eight. And so Nick star one Oh seven. Andrew and Dan one Oh eight. And Kelly and Christie at one 20.

Yeah. I don't know. I have that for 105 for all of them. Anyways, they're all really close together and they get to the airport and they start looking on the computers at like an internet cafe or some teams ask some people on their laptops that they can use their laptop. It's middle of the night. So like the the desks aren't open yet. So they're just kind of like trying to do some research.

And they find out that there's a flight that arrives at 3.55 a.m. in New Zealand and is basically their only choice and they all get on the same flight.

And nothing crazy happens. Except for Aja kind of gets annoyed with Tai. In their interview as they were leaving they say like this is the most time they've ever spent together and it's kind of easy to get on each other's nerves. And so when all the teams are looking at these flights Aja's like, I kind of want to do our own thing. Like, let's go see. And Ty's like, why? And they kind of escalate. And he was like, he called her Fidel Castro. Yeah, because you're dominant, like dictating. Yeah. And they kind of, yeah, you're seeing that they're not quite getting along this episode threw throughout most of the leg.

Terence and Sarah are the first one to get in their car and pull out of the airport and so yeah, like we said, they're trying to find this harbor and These balls of rope are just on the docks there between the boat. Yeah, it's kind of scattered around and some people have an easy time reading the map and getting themselves there some teams have to stop and ask for directions. When Marissa and Brooke stop and ask for directions the guy is telling them you go this way make sure blah blah blah blah and he says you can't get lost.

But that is not correct. They can and they do get very lost. Yeah. Marissa and Brooke specifically. And on the way there, Aja and Ty get a flat tire and Aja is like blaming Ty because she said he drove on the curb and he doesn't really know how to change the tire and she tries to flag somebody down.

And they're not getting along. So yeah somebody does eventually stop and help them change their tire. And, but like these first teams are getting to the harbor and untying the knot. And the clue says to drive yourself to the summit of Mount Eden, which is a dormant volcano and the highest natural point in New Zealand or in Auckland. I think might might be New Zealand. What was it called again? Mount Eden.

Yeah. So it doesn't, it's not really that hard to untie this rope. It just kind of takes time to figure out how to start, like where to start. Yeah. Um, Oh, did we talk about like before the leg even started, Kelly and Christie were like, we confronted Nick and star about them telling whoever Aja and tighted you turn us. There was really no resolution to that. They're just still mad at them. Yeah.

and all started with a sports bra falling off a ledge, which is so dumb. Um, is the highest natural point on the Auckland isthmus isthmus in New Zealand. Yeah. Tell us, so New Zealand, whatever you got, this is our third time to New Zealand.

But Auckland is a large metropolitan city in the north of New Zealand and it has a population of about 1.5 million. It's the most populous city of New Zealand and the fifth largest city in Oceania. It's not the capital, Wellington is the capital of New Zealand. Auckland has the fourth largest foreign-born population in the world with 40% of its residents born overseas.

So there you go. um Yeah, so the team started arriving and getting those clues from the knot, and it tells them to go to the tallest mountain there. And and as they're unraveling, it also says, ah fast forward. The first of two fast forwards.

um So what they have to do is go to the tallest structure in the southern hemisphere, the Auckland Sky Tower, and using the maintenance ladders, climb from the sky deck to the top and pick up a friend, which is a roaming gnome. yeah And then you'll get to go straight to the pit stop.

Canatina were there first and they decide immediately to do the fast forward, but Andrew and Dan are right behind them and they're like, let's just try to go for it. people like Maori warriors doing the haka and being like, they're like really loud. So intimidating. And their traditional clothes with like the face paint or tattoos all over their bodies. And the roadblock is choose an image of a traditional traditional tattoo, then walk among the warriors and find the one that matches the one in your hand. If it's wrong, the warrior will take it and you'll have to start over again.

Yeah. So it's like a so square piece of paper that they just pull from a box yeah and then they walk around all the people doing the thing. And and they're really similar, like a lot of them are look very much the same. yeah So it is kind of hard and the the or the prompt for the roadblock is who's got an eye for detail. So you really, really have to pay attention because some of them look really close. And it's actually still dark when Terrence arrives and he's the, he's the one doing the roadblock. So it's like kind of hard to see.

Yeah and they're like being really loud and intimidating and like they're really into it which is it's really cool and but he does get it and the clue there says drive into downtown and find a City Life Hotel and make your way to the rooftop for your next clue.

And when Kelly and Christy get to the mountain, they don't have the guy open the gate for them or see him or something like that. And they park at the bottom and they walk all the way up. yeah With it being the highest point, it's probably not a fast walk. And yeah, so when, oh, sorry.

Uh, and then Tony and Dallas get there and Tony does the roadblock and she does it really quickly. Yeah. Yeah. It's now daylight. So it's going to be a little bit easier for them. Terence does, so he says, that's the craziest thing I've ever done. Like ever. Yeah. I mean, it's pretty cool, but I think even just on this race, I can think of crazier things that you've done yeah in the last week. I agree. I remember him saying that too. I'm like the craziest thing ever.

him and Sarah is very dramatic too, like kind of like over exaggerates on like everything they say. It's kind of funny. um So Terence and Sarah again are the first people at the next clue. And it says gnome spotting. Teams must use binoculars to scan the area around the hotel and spot a Travelocity roaming gnome doing New Zealand wish list activities. Once they spot a gnome, they must find the location and retrieve it.

So they have like binoculars up at the top and they have to kind of like look around and they're in different places. They're not like all in one spot. Like one is in a hot air balloon in the park and one is hank lighting on the top of a building. Yeah. And one is kind of like in a yeah pool in a park.

And at this point, Marissa and Brooke finally get to the docks to find the very first clue. They're the last ones there and they walk right by what it's probably the last not left. Yeah. They like can't find it very easily. Yeah. So Andrew and Dan and Christine Kelly get to the roadblock at the same time and Andrew and Christie do it.

They drive past them, remember? Andrew and Dan were driving up the hill and Kelly and Chrissy were walking and they were like- He's like, what are you guys doing? It says to drive. And they're like, oh, we decided to walk. Yeah, and it's funny, like, they're like, Oh, we decided to walk and Dan's response was like, Oh, okay, cool. Like, yeah okay. ah But Christy does get the roadblock first and Andrew is right after her. And when they get the right so when they get the correct face or tattoo match the guy will like rub noses or touch noses with them yeah and Andrew looks terrified yeah he was like of this guy because he was trying to come like towards his face and he backed off and he was like like pointing to his nose but ah he his face looks so terrified of him um but yeah so

Teams, in the meantime, Ken and Tina did the fast forward and they finished. Tina was like really scared because she's afraid of heights, she said. Yeah. And it is. It's very high and it's like just open and it's windy, so it's kind of like swaying.

And Andrew and Dan found the gnome and left and got it. And Kelly and Christy took a long time to spot theirs.

And it's a detour. It is a detour, a matter of time or a matter of skill. Matter of time is the teams drive themselves to a kiwi orchard and use their bare feet to crush enough kiwis to make 12 quarts of juice. Then each team member must drink a huge glass of kiwi juice. Yes, you can exclude like so big. And then matter of skill drive themselves to a place called go cart heaven and choose two kits and properly assemble a pair of blow carts, then sell the blow carts around the track three times. It's non-mechanical, it's just like a little steel frame that a sail is attached to and the sail blows them around the track. like I mean, there's a way to steer obviously, but. Yeah, so this one would be hard to pick, I think. But I think the thing that would convince me to choose the matter of time over the other is that it's just right there.

Like it it seems super, super close. Um, because Terrence and Sarah choose matter of time and they are like at the kiwi orchard immediately to do the other one. You have to drive there and assemble it and go around three times. Yeah, I would have initially chose matter of time, I think as well. And a lot of teams do, I think there's, I don't, was there anybody that chose matter of skill to begin with? Uh-uh.

The only reason that people ended up there is because they switched detours because once you get to the Kiwis, like it was kind of harder than they expected. And like the spout got clogged and like there's rocks at the bottom. So it was hurting their feet. And so yeah all of them chose matter of time at first, and then some of them switched. So Terrence and Sarah were there first, but Tony and Dallas weren't very far behind them.

And um Terence and Sarah, like they were saying, they were saying, oh, my my feet are getting so cut up because they're in like this container. And I guess to help the fruit get pulverized and to filter out, there's sharp rocks at the bottom. yeah So you're stepping on sharp rocks and fruit that's like hard. I don't know. So it doesn't, nobody, everybody like comments on how Hard and painful and comfortable it is yeah, and yeah, some of them have problems with them clocking clogging the tubes or whatever, but Terence and Sarah were in a good flow or something like that because they finished pretty quickly and They get the pit stop clue which which was the Summer Hill drive yourself to Summer Hill a thousand acre of sheep farm for the next pit stop The last human check-in may be eliminated

So Tony and Dallas are still doing theirs, but they decide to switch. So they're the first team to switch. And as they're leaving, Andrew and Dan arrive and they're like, how is it? And they're like, Oh, this is so much fun. yeah And Andrew and Dan think that they're like done, and but they're going to do the, yeah. Um, so Nick and star choose matter of time. So to Kelly and Christie, they're kind of like right by each other. And then,

But yeah. but yeah like or Star was like, why did you tell them where to go? And he was like, I just wanted them to go. I didn't want them to know that we were leaving. I want them to go start this one and then have to switch. Yeah. But Kelly and Christy end up doing really well. And they finish faster. Yeah. So it's interesting because everybody got the same

Now the other teams, Marissa and Brooke, they're not there yet. the Um, yeah. So,

The blow cards do look pretty fun and it doesn't look like it's super complicated to assemble them. They don't, most of them don't really have many issues. Yeah. And yeah, so Terence and Sarah get checked in as team number two. Um, 20 and Dallas get to the detour and they set up theirs pretty easily and Nick and Star are right behind them and Andrew and Dan are right behind them. 20 and Dallas finished the detour as they're assembling theirs and they,

um head out and killing Chrissy finished their fruit smashing one in that time. So as Andrew and Dan are assembling their go carts or blow carts or whatever, Andrew is very calm and like doing his and Dan is just not even trying. yeah Like he just, yeah, he just shuts down and like the wind is blowing and when he picks something up, the wind blows and he gets all frustrated and annoyed. And Andrew basically assembled both of their cards by himself. And and I would hate, that's so annoying, like to have a team member like that. Like you, he just shut, he just didn't even try. yeah He just had like a loud voice and he just keeps talking, but doesn't do anything.

um But as Nick and Star are going around the track, Star crashes twice and her second crash is really hard. yeah And she lands right on her arm or tries to stop herself with her arm. i don't think you If you you can finish, you probably didn't break your arm. If you can like lift up your cart and keep driving around the track, I don't think your arm was broken. I say that, ah you know, kind of judgmentally, but actually when I broke my foot slash ankle, like I didn't know it was broken for like a few weeks. Yeah.
