They were the first to arrive, so they will depart at 2.56 a.m. And the clue says fly to Munich, Germany, and then drive yourselves to RuPaulding and ride the cable car to the top of the mountain get your next clue.

And where are they at? Switzerland, right? Yeah. Okay. And then Tammy and Victor, brother-sister team, leave at 2.57 and Mark... And Michael, the brothers, at 2.59.

And then Mel and Mike at 3.18. And Mel mentions at this time that he got injured on the first leg. Doing the cheese detour. Yeah. cheese It wasn't a detour. Just the cheese task. Yeah.

Which, not surprising because was pretty intense. surprised he was the only one. Yeah. And then Amanda and Chris 3.47. Brad and Victoria, did not get their time. 3.56. And then Jamie Cara, 3.59. Keisha and Jen at 4.02. And Steve Linda at 4.04. And Christy and Jodi at 4.12. So, there's like...

and steve and linda at four four and then christie and joie at four twelve so there's like About an hour. Yeah. 15 minutes yeah between the first and the last. They're not too far apart. They have $585 for this leg of the race, which seems like a lot. Yeah.

And they didn't really, because they didn't have taxis. They drove themselves. Yeah. What? Just getting them started for the season, I guess. Yeah. Maybe. Maybe. ah The team started heading to the airport and on the way there, a lot of the teams ask their taxi drivers if they can borrow their cell phones and start making reservations for flights and seeing like what flights are first to leave.

And pretty much all the teams do this except for Mark and Michael and Margie and Luke. Yeah. But Margie and Luke get there before other people. So they do get on the flight. So there's a flight.

um a Swiss Air flight that leaves 7.10. And a Lufthansa flight that leaves at 8.34. And since Margie and Luke are the first to depart. And get there first. They get tickets on that.

um But all the other teams start arriving. Or start booking their things over the phone. So when Mark and Michael... get there and they come to the ticket counter. they're like, do you already have a reservation? They're like, no So ends up being all the teams except for Mark andmichael and Michael and Chrissy and Jodi, who are the last to depart, are on the first flight. and so that first flight lands and they have to find the marked cars and drive themselves. and

they're heading to this big mountain with cable cars Keisha and Jen have a hard time finding their way there and they get a little lost.

And they kind of struggled this episode with like, because like Keisha is the older sister. Jen is the younger sister. Jen is driving.

Jen feels like Keisha is like not letting Jen like have any say. Like Keisha is just like acting like the older sister that has to be right all the time. Mm-hmm.

And I'm wondering, what would that happen to us? I don't feel like it would. No. I don't think... i I did when we were younger. Like, I'm the oldest. I'm in charge. But now that we're, like, all in our 30s now, it's not like that.

No. The difference between 5 and 7 is a big difference. That's, like, where your kids are right now or 6 and 8 or whatever. It's a big difference.

So, um yeah, the teams are heading to this mountain to get on the cable cars. The first team to get there are Tammy and Victor. And their cable car departs in two minutes. And they are the only ones on that first one. And the next one leaves in 15 minutes. Yeah.

So on that second cable car has like Amanda and Chris, Margie and Luke, Kara and um what's her team name? Jamie. Jamie and mark Mike and Mel.

When they get to the top, of the clue is a roadblock and says, who's ready to fly like an eagle? So they have to choose an instructor and in tandem paraglide off the mountain to the ground 6,000 feet below.

The other teammate rides back down the gondola and waits in the designated waiting area. If the wind conditions are unsafe, teams must wait an undetermined amount of time to jump when it's safe to jump or they can choose to hike down the mountain, which takes 60 minutes.

And obviously, if they're telling us this information, it's going to be important. So I was like, oh, I wonder how many teams are going to not be able to jump. And it's a lot of them. Yeah. So Tammy is doing the roadblock.

And immediately the wind picks up right then. And she, but you know, she like gets a little harness on and she's like, how long? And they're like, we don't know. and She's like, okay, bye. Like she immediately was like, I'm going.

Mm hmm. Which was a good choice for her, I think, because if they were in the lead and she didn't know how long they were waiting, I would have done the same thing. And going downhill is way easier going uphill. Yes. Yeah. And so, yeah, she decides pretty quickly. The other teams are arriving and deciding who's going to do the roadblock.

So, Chris from Amanda and Chris, which are the dating couple, does it. Margie, the mom, Cara, and Mel decide they're going to do the roadblock.

And they're all kind of... Deciding whether they're going to wait for the wind or walk down the hill. And Mel says that he doesn't have a choice to wait. He has to wait for the wind and glide down instead of walking down because he's injured and he'll not make it. He wouldn't make it.

So he's waiting and waiting and waiting. All the other teams in the meantime decide that they're going to walk. And this is like a a waiting game for him. Mel.

And Mike. So the teammate pre like stays up on the top of the mountain until the. Until they decide to either go or. Yeah. Whatever way they're going to go down. And then they'll ride the cable car down to meet that teammate.

um So the second flight lands and they're making their way towards this mountain. This is Michael and Mark. Mark. And Christy and Jodi. Christy.

um Victoria from Brad and Victoria is doing the roadblock. She decides to walk. Linda from Steve and Linda does the roadblock and she decides to walk. And yeah, Victoria, she was like, there's five people in front of me.

And if the wind has to be perfect for five people plus me, there's it's not happening. So she smartly goes down the mountain. And she's in good shape. so So Chrissy and Jodi and Mark and Michael arrive and they choose Chrissy to do the roadblock. And I don't know, Mark or Michael? It's Mark.

Mark to do the roadblock. And they all decide to walk. So... Mel's pretty nervous at this point. Yeah, because he's the only one left and he's like, yeah I just lost it for us. Because if the wind doesn't change, we're going to be doomed.

Yeah, he says... um We're going to lose the race because I stayed up here. And Mike is being really... Like, his son is being supportive. And he's like, yeah, you would die if you walked down that hill. So, yeah they're being patient and patient. And as all the teams are walking down and Mel is standing up there, the wind dies down and he's able to go And he just has an amazing experience. He's so happy.

Mike is so happy for his dad. He's going down the cable car and watching his dad down the distance. And it was really cool. So I'm glad he stuck with it.

It's like, I'm not going to pray for him to intervene in this wind. Yeah. so I'll just stay up here and I'll be grateful that I'm up here. And if the wind does change, it's a miracle and I'll be grateful for that.

ah uh, Rupolding. It's R-U-H-P-O-L-D-I-N-G. It's a municipality in the southeastern area of Bavaria, Germany. And it's a county that's based in tourism and sports.

It looks really pretty there. Yeah. So now we're past that. um Tammy ends up getting to the clue box first. She was the first one to arrive and walk down the mountain and ah mountain.

Yeah. And then Margie and Chris and Victoria finish after her. They all get the clue and head that way. Going down the hill, there's like these um wooden signs with arrows on them telling them what turn to make.

And Linda takes a wrong turn. Yeah. Which is not good when you're hiking. Because you can go a long ways out of the way just make making one turn when you're in the mountains.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it's kind of like the sign is kind of down close to the ground. So she came to like a fork in the road and she was like, oh, I don't know if I go left or right, but I'm going to guess I go right.

But the sign was pointing left. There's no way that I would have just made a turn and less until I looked everywhere yeah for a sign. Yeah.

Being in a race and being in the mountains alone. And knowing that they usually do like marked paths. Yeah. Yeah. there's not There's no way that they would have just made you guess.

Yes. So she's lost. Mel lands and um the other teams are making their way to this clue box. But the first group of teams get to this next clue.

When Mike said they're on their way to the next clue after Mel. No. Yeah. Mike is driving and Mel's in the backseat and he's like, if you would have done that walk, you might not have ever come back. They would have just found your bones years later. Yeah. I thought that was funny.

So it's like, oh, let's let dad do this because he's injured. He can just glide. But the the wind factor made a big difference. Yeah. Yeah.

But yeah, i probably if I had to wait more than like 10 or 15 minutes, i probably would have walked. Yeah. So the Tammy and Victor are the first team to arrive to that next clue, which is a detour. And the choices are balancing Dolly or Austrian folly.

Balancing Dolly, they have to ride a Segway along a two-mile obstacle course. Once they've completed the course, they'll receive the next clue. It requires balance and skill, but if teams can get control, they can finish quickly.

And then Austrian Folly is they have to go into a party tent and throw pies made of traditional Austrian schlag. Yes.

so they take turns throwing pies until they find one with cherry filling to get the next clue yes so This one would kind of be ah one or the other.

Like, i I would be like, oh, I don't think either one is going to be the wrong decision. Yeah. Because two miles isn't that long when you're on a Segway. But I've never ridden a Segway before. So I would probably choose the other one just because I'm like, I don't want to have to, like, figure out how to balance and everything. So...

Yeah, and the pies, it's not necessarily a needle in the haystack detour because it's like there's enough cherry pies that all the teams can find one. And there's not an infinite number of pies.

Yeah. So, yeah, this one, it would be like, let's just do one or the other. Yeah. But I also, maybe I'm like, i don't really, I'm at the front. i don't really want to get dirty.

don't want to have pie all over me. So let's do the other one. um So Tammy and Victor choose Austrian Folly. It did look pretty fun, though. Yeah. And it didn't it didn't take them too long.

Yeah, they found it pretty quickly. They were having fun, like sibling fun, it seemed like. They were like, yeah, it was cute. And that clue says, make your way on foot to the Tyrolean Woodcutters where you're I don't know the exact wording. They'll get a stamp, a piece of wood that will be stamped with their next clue.

So they find out that these woodcutters are like animatronic yeah woodcutters close by that will saw through this log and it pops out the circle of wood like a disc and then the person there standing there stamps it and it says on it drive to Salzburg and find Schloss Helbrun for the next pit stop.

The first team is heading to the pit stop and um some other teams are still at the bottom of the mountain waiting for their teammate to walk down. And Steve says, unfortunately, Linda's not the best with directions.

It's like, dun, dun, dun. And you see her like... Come all alone. Yeah. And she's kind of getting emotional and she comes out of this like clearing onto highway road, like the highway. Yeah.

And she's like, I cannot go back up the mountain. Yeah. So I need to figure something out. So she like flags down somebody who takes her to the cable car place where Steve is waiting, which is really nice.

And I was like, ugh. Yeah, because the last episode he wasn't very nice to her about being slow and keeping up and stuff like that. Yeah. So. when Like when they left the mat though and they did their little interviews, Steve was like really emotional. He was like, I just did not treat her very well and I feel really bad about it. And so, yeah, it seems like they have a pretty good relationship. and And so as they're driving to the next clue, she keeps saying, thank you for not being mad. Thank you for yeah being nice. They seem like they're, you know, they also have a good relationship. Yeah. Yeah. So it's like, yeah, they haven't made really good TV yet, but also they're nice to each other. Yeah. Luke really didn't want to. He was like trying to convince his mom to choose the other one. But she wanted to do that one. So they do. It was funny because he like he was by himself in his interview and you could tell that he was clearly covered in pie.

There was a point. it did take him. seemed like it took them a little bit longer than some other teams. And he was like getting frustrated. but Yeah. And he was like, let's switch. And she's like, no, let's. Yeah. We're not going to.

Speaking of looking like, I posted on our Instagram today, if anybody's watching the current seasons of the current season 37 of The Amazing Race, um like this episode, i was like, oh my gosh. so Jonathan of the Jonathan in Anna, um they're like the married couple, looks just like Frank from season one.

So, team number two are Mel and Mike. So that was a huge comeback from thinking they were going to be eliminated to second place. Yeah. It was funny because when they tried to get to the pit stop, there's like a gate in the arch of the castle. And they were like, how do we get in there? And they like tried to open it. They couldn't open it. They're like, do we have to climb it? And Phil's like standing there watching them with his like raised eyebrow the whole time. The signature Phil eyebrow. Yeah.

And then somebody comes by and they're like, how do you open this? And he just like turns the handle and pushes it open. They're like, oh, okay. Yeah. It's like moments like that on the race.
