Hello everyone. This is the Amazing Rewatch and this is Jessica and Sadie. And today we are covering season 13 episode 9. We're getting close to the end of the season and it has been a good one. We were in um Kazakhstan last episode and Nick and Star checked in first. They did the fast forward and Terence and Sarah were eliminated because they attempted the fast forward as well and did not get it.

And Dallas and Star are so cute at the airport. yeah they They're just like walking and chatting and they sit next to each other and he like puts his hand on her leg and I'm like, oh, this is like getting serious for an amazing race. Yeah, Star says that he's a pretty incredible man. And Nick said that in the past Star has had romantic relationships where she kind of is like, she he says like bulldozes the relationship or something like she's in charge. and He says, I think Dallas is the kind of guy who can hold his own with her. And he seems to like Dallas. Yeah. Um, and we remember lastly, Andrew and Dan left their shoes at the detour yeah and they, everybody else carried their shoes with them in their bags. Like, I just don't know what their thinking was like, why?

Why leave your shoes? And like once they've checked into the pit stop, I guess they can't leave. So they yeah, like you can't they couldn't go back and get their shoes. So they could have got them like after they left the pit stop, but it was the middle of the night. So that theater probably wouldn't have been open. Well, they probably have like a rule of like once this leg is closed, like you can't go back or like you probably can't leave.

so they're wearing slippers from the hotel slippers from the hotel to the airport and they get there and they see like a shoe store in the airport yeah it just so happens at this shoe store in Kazakhstan in the middle of the night yeah is open so they go in there they said they only have 476 dollars these shoes are little on the expensive side some of them are like 100 dollars they end up paying hundred and sixty dollars on both of their shoes yeah and yeah they had to have shoes yeah like i don't know like one of them is like um we may regret spending that money it's like well what else are you supposed to do yeah you can't well they even let you on an airplane if you don't have shoes on i don't know i mean they make you take them off for security but

Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Well, this flight lands and all the teams are leaving the airport to get in cabs to go to this monastery. And Andrew and Dan actually get in the cab first and the teams like are racing to this monastery. The first ones to arrive are Nick and star in $20 at the same time. The taxis like changed the game majorly on this leg. Yeah. Yeah.

they are like for everybody basically they like you know kind of go back and forth but um it's interesting because we said like the last leg they gave them like 400 something dollars and they like didn't even really use any taxis or spend any money on anything yeah and this leg they gave them 175 dollars and they mentioned throughout this whole lake how expensive these taxi rides are yeah because it seems like they're going a long way like they're in the taxis for like yeah a couple out, like or an hour at some point.

It's a very interesting place, a lot of really interesting history here. Yeah, probably going back very far. I think we i think it was season nine that we were talking about. Probably. And we spent a lot of time talking about Russia. And so the first team to get to this military base are Tony and Dallas and the clue there is a detour and it says boots or borscht. um So for both of these detours teams have to put on traditional Russian military uniforms, including these like foot wraps that go inside their boots. So boots, one of the detour options boots is join a training squad and learn a traditional parade march.

When they think that they are ready, they the teams must fall in line with the troop and march one full lap of the parade route. If the drill sergeant is satisfied... I'm already laughing. If the drill sergeant is satisfied with their performance, they'll get the next clue. It's physically demanding, but with stamina and coordination, teams could get done quickly.

And then borscht, borscht is a hard word to type. Yeah, and say. Yeah. Teams must find the mess tent and serve borscht to a company of 75 Russian soldiers. one Once each soldier has received a bowl full of borscht, they will get the next clue. um They have to be like neat when they're, they can't just like throw the soup in the bowl. They have to to do it nicely or else they could have to repeat it.

So Tony and Dallas choose boots. I probably would have chosen boots. Yes, I definitely would have. Especially, I mean, you don't know until you've seen it or you have done it. It definitely looks like the way easier option. But like, I feel like the way that they say the clue, it's like,

the the borscht thing could take a long time because it's like 75 russian and you're ladling this big soup thing and carrying around a big pot and the other one you just have to it says like teams who are coordinated can find themselves something something anyways i just feel like that would be our detour for sure yeah And I, like watching Tony and Dallas, they chose boots and they did it pretty easily. Like it's basically just marching. Like, walking yeah, you like kind of lift your foot up a little bit more than normal and kind of like more of like a straight leg march, but you know, your hands are going opposite. It's really not that complicated.

And sometimes people's reaction to that is to be like, I'm going to, you know, don't tell me to come down or whatever. But she, you know, he's very much just like,

I think he knows how to speak to his sister. this is yeah But um they yeah, so Tony and Dallas don't really struggle with the detour and they pass and it says, make your way to Zukovsky, the town of Zukovsky and find this bakery where you'll find your next clue.

And so when they they have to go into like this tent and they all have a uniform with their name on it, they have to put it on, they have to go walk outside the tent and they have to stand in front of this military guy who gives them a demonstration on how to tie the thing around their feet and put them in their boots. And if you're just like watching him paying attention, it doesn't seem that crazy and difficult.

But Andrew really struggles with getting this song theme wrapped around his legs and is getting like frustrated and Dan is getting frustrated with him. And so they're like, ah we can't even we can't even get our boots on. We're going to switch detours. We're going to go. Dan's like, if you can't put the things on, then let's go do the other detour. And I'm like, well, you still have to wear that. Yeah. So they obviously didn't read that part of the clue. Yes. And so and Andrew's like, did you get yours on? And Dan's like, of course I did. yeah And Dan's or Andrew's like, oh, wow. It just seems like they both struggle with a lot of things. And they. Somebody said because because they arrived second to this thing,

to this location. I can't remember who said it, but they're like, Dan and Andrew usually get places fast, but they can't do the tasks very well. yeah And that is very true. Yeah, they always struggle with the task. And Ken and Tina, they don't really struggle with the marching. They pass, they finish the detour, get the clue to go to the bakery.

So Dan and Andrew, they went back in the tent, took off their military uniform, walk over to the other detour. They like grab their kitchen. It's like an apron and a chef hat. And like a cart with the pot of soup and stuff and on it and read a clue, read part of the clue or something like that. And it says you must be, you must, for both choices, you must don the military uniform. Yeah. And they're like, Oh my gosh. Okay. So Nick and Starr finally arrive.

And they hurry and get dressed and they choose boots and they start marching and Andrew and Dan go back to the tent and get their military uniform on again. And they're like, well, we're here right now. Let's just do the marching. Let's just do boots. And Nick and Star finish quickly and do the detour. So Andrew and Dan were the second to arrive and they haven't even started a detour yet. So they have to stand there with like a bunch of army guys or soldiers and they demonstrate the marching And Dan, I don't know what... It looks like his arms and legs were not even attached to his body. Yes, I've never seen it. You have to watch this part. If you don't if you don't watch the episodes with us, like you just need to go and find this part of the episode. It is like... like It's like mind-bogglingly. Yes, it's so bizarre. How are does this happen? How can you not just walk?

The second I saw him walking like that, I'd been like, no, we are switching right now. Because if I had a partner that couldn't even walk, I'd be like, what are we doing here? Let's just quit. Anyways, eventually when they switch the detour again to do borscht, they eventually get it. They're the last team to do it. And it seems like they enjoy it. Like they're kind of like joking with the soldiers and that one, but yeah, they did better with that one for sure. So in the meantime, all the other teams are in their cabs driving to this town, to this bakery and Tony and Dallas arrive first and it's a roadblock and it says, who has a strong back?

So this person has to unload 50, 55 pound bags of flour and deliver them to this bakery by placing the bags horizontally on the floor. So there's a truck right outside the door of this bakery.

filled with 55 pound bags of flour and they have to haul them right in. It's not very far, but you have to go down this wooden ramp in the back of the truck. And it's 50 and they're heavy. So Dallas does the roadblock and Ken, and he does probably 20, like half of them by the time Ken and Tina arrived. Yeah, I think it was like 18. Yeah. And Ken does it. And um Ken is really impressive. Dallas does a good job as well, but he gets really tired and seems to really struggle towards the end. Tony's telling him to slow down. She's like, slow down. Don't wear he yourself out. And he keeps saying, no, mom. Because he's like trying to carry two at a time. hu And he's like, we're winning this thing. And she's like, well, not if you pass out. Yeah.

um So Dan and Andrew finally finish the detour. And Nick and Star, who are still struggling with their taxi, um arrive at the roadblock, right as Ken is finishing and they're leaving and Ken's like, Nick's never going to be able to do that.

And I kind of thought the same thing. I was like, well, he's just kind of like, he's not a huge guy. No, he's, he doesn't seem to be out of shape. He's just a smaller shape. Yeah. And when he deliver delivers his first couple of bags, the lady, there's a Russian local Russian lady inside the bakery and he drops a couple of bags off and she goes, he's not fit. Yeah.

But he does it pretty good. Yeah. And they ditched their taxi because they had struggled with him for a while now. They struggle with him getting to the military base and then getting to the bakery. So they pay him and tell him to leave.

yeah So they find another taxi or they're trying to find taxis as Andrew and Dan arrive and Dan does the roadblock and he does it pretty good as well. Andrew's impressed with him. He said um I've been watching him this whole time and he's just when one part of his body gets sore he adjusts to another part of his body and he's he's doing such a good job and this is like the first time that Dan hasn't complained about something. Yeah he was like give me the caveman tasks I can do all day long.

a taxi. Yeah, they struggled a lot to find a taxi. But this taxi driver... Dan and Andrew kept their taxi and he's been doing really well for them. Yeah. So it's kind of like, ooh. So this taxi driver, the new one that Nick and Star got also doesn't speak English or doesn't know where they're going.

And it kind of seems like this pit stop is hard to find so it's supposed to be this library in this ah Park in the park and the park seems huge because there's like different gates to get in the park and they're specifically going supposed to go to gate 14. Yeah and So Tony and Dallas and Ken and Tina are kind of dropped off at the same time and they're running through this park trying to find it. And it's, they keep saying library, library. And it's, yeah, it seems huge. But eventually the first team to arrive are Tony and Dallas. Their first number one. And they win a trip to the Dominican Republic. And then Ken and Tina are number two.

And so it's kind of seems like it could be anybody's game now. Nick and switched taxi drivers again and Andrew and Dan arrive and they they don't have enough money to pay him so they didn't like tell the guy the guy could not really speak English but they didn't really tell him they were talking to the camera in the car saying we don't have very much money in this we're driving pretty far and blah blah blah and

the driver didn't understand them saying that or he could have been like, okay, well, I'm not taking you any farther or something. So yeah and they get all the way to this park and they get out to pay him and they pay him all that they have left and it's not enough. And the driver doesn't like want them to go. He wants to get paid. yeah He pulls out a piece of paper and a pen and he starts doing math equations on there and telling them, we went this far, there's so much cost. And they're like, we know, we know, we just don't have anything. They pull out their empty pockets. We don't have anything. They try and offer him their brand new shoes. I know. I was like, well, then what are you going to do? They're like, these, these shoes are a hundred dollars, a hundred American dollars. And the guy's like, no, like ah Dan takes his shoe off and puts it next to the guy and the guy kicks his shoes and he's not happy. And Dan just sits down on the edge of the curb and he's just like,

dude just sit down. And Andrew is trying to figure out what to do. Nick and Star are in the park and they're kind of running running through like this forest, you know, yeah they can't find the library either. Eventually Nick and Star do check in his team number three.

which they're glad that they're not eliminated, but this is like the worst that they've done. And it really wasn't even their fault. It was just bad taxis. yeah And not even bad taxis, just the language barrier. yeah And it's interesting because Nick really kept us cool.

Star really didn't and it's like if if she's not The first person she gets really mad about it gets really frustrated. Yeah um So and will it would be interesting to see you like if that Like in the future legs because now there's only down to like a very few amount of teams and She seems like she gets stressed out when she is not the very first person. And that's not a very good like tactic. yeah You need to stay cool before but no matter what place you're in. But it's good she has Nick because Nick seems to know how to talk to her and talk her down. Yeah, he's he's very chill, very collected, yeah which is good. So eventually, Dan pulls something else out of his wallet. I think he just pulls out the money.

that they originally offered him and they hold it up again and he's like, I can give you this, but this is what I've got. And the taxi driver like grabs it and like throws a cigarette and and goes and leaves. Cause I feel so bad for him. I know. I'm like, that's so, he's driven them a lot all day. Yeah. And he's gotten them there quickly. yeah He's been a good driver.

and makes me feel bad. I know. I wish like they they should have tried to find somebody that speaks English to translate and just be like, I am so sorry, we do not have this. Or ask people for money on the street. Like I know that probably wouldn't get them very much, but it would get them something or show the guy that they're trying. Yeah. Joyce and Yuchenna had to do that before they checked in at the finale. yeah So So Andrew and Dan pull up as team number four. And Phil says, Andrew and Dan, you are the last team to arrive. And I'm sorry to tell you that you're still in the race. So it's a non-elimination leg. Phil's playing some tricks there. They have a speed bump on the next leg and no money, no money, literally no money. And they'll get a little bit yeah for the next leg, but maybe sometimes they don't get money. That's true.

Um, yeah, it's kinda, it was kind of a, it was like two teams did really well with no mistakes and just kind of flew through the leg and two teams struggled from the very beginning. Yeah. It was an interesting leg. It was. And apparently there was an unshone U-turn on this leg, but nobody used it. So ah they didn't even, cause it was like, this marks the first time a U-turn is placed on an on elimination leg.
