Hello, Podwalkers, and welcome back to well not really another episode of the Goblin Lore Podcast! So we had a planned episode that had to be pushed due to illness. Which reminded us that it's a good time to just mention the holidays/winter. This was done by Alex and (oh yeah) new co-host Taya!! Taya has been on the show multiple times in the past and was previously a host of the Loregoyfs. This was announced last week, you should go check it out!

Again we would like to state that Black Lives Matter

We also are proud to have partnered with Grinding Coffee Co a black, LGBT+ affiliated and owned, coffee business that is aimed at providing coffee to gamers. You can read more about their mission here. You can use our partner code for discounted coffee!

We also finally have a Linktree with all of our discounts/resources

Schedule Changes Due to Health Issues

00:00:29
Speaker
Hello, Podwalkers, and not welcome to a recording from the Covelin Lore podcast, but this isn't really an episode. Unfortunately, we had an episode planned this week. We had a great guest. I'm so excited to record this, but Hobbs is sick and is not going to be able to record right now. Just scratchy voice and coughing just does not make will for an audio format. And so we've
00:00:53
Speaker
and postponing that for a little bit. So just coming to you tonight. Minus Hobbs to have just a quick little message just to
00:01:03
Speaker
Give an update about the cast and just as a good reminder for everybody that this is a time where things can get tough.

Introducing New Co-Host Taya

00:01:09
Speaker
So might as well introduce myself. I'm Alex found on Twitter. I'll underscore chronic clear as long as that is an option that is viable and we'll see. Um, and I'm also joined by, by Taya because
00:01:24
Speaker
If you missed our last episode, Taya is now officially the third host of the podcast. So she'll be joining us much more regularly, which is great. She's already one of our most frequent guests and always happy to have you on the show and your expertise with the lore, especially
00:01:43
Speaker
Lately, that's a thing that Hobbs and I are a little bit lacking on. So it was always great when you were, we were always very happy to have you on the show in general, but also to be able to bring that experience that he and I just kind of can't right now. Yeah, I'm really excited. As always, I'm Taya, she her or they them. I'm Taya transcends on Twitter. And I'm happy to be here.
00:02:06
Speaker
So I guess we'll just have a quick conversation. Oh, and I almost forgot.

Acknowledging Sponsorship Support

00:02:12
Speaker
You even mentioned it while we were talking before recording, but we want to thank the Grinding Coffee Company. They've been sponsoring us for a long time. They are a minority owned LGBTQ run coffee company that supports gamers. They're just
00:02:27
Speaker
great to support all sorts of wonderful people in the community. We're honored to be among that group. Whenever we need charity events and stuff, they always give us lots of stuff to give away. And we're just so happy that they choose to work with us. So we want to shout them out at the beginning of the show. Well, at the beginning of the recording. And yeah, just a

Challenges of Celebrating Holidays

00:02:50
Speaker
heads up. So as we're recording this now, it's right after Thanksgiving in the US.
00:02:55
Speaker
which really, these six weeks or so, there's lots and lots of holidays. So obviously, the US, we have Thanksgiving that just happened and all the various things going on with that. We've got the various Christmas and other religious holidays coming up in December of all sorts. And so it's just, there's a lot going on.
00:03:16
Speaker
Yeah, it makes me think about how planeswalkers celebrate holidays and just how they keep their calendars together across multiple planes at any given time. Unless you're between Dominaria and Ixalan and then you're never going to get your calendar to align, apparently.
00:03:33
Speaker
But it's got to be hard for a planeswalker to keep track of their holidays. See, this is why we're so happy to have you because it's been so long since we've we've been like talking on an episode and been like, oh, we need like I need to write that down because that needs to be an episode because that needs to be. So now.
00:03:53
Speaker
Never would have thought of that. That is fantastic. We'll have to see. Well, it was just the whole point of recording.

Potential Holiday Schedule Inconsistencies

00:03:59
Speaker
This is to say that things might be inconsistent over the next month or so. And what's more consistent than trying to celebrate holidays across multiple planes? Exactly. But if we find the time, it would be great to try to sit down and talk about that topic with Hobbs or just whomever we can get, because that would be a fun topic to talk about. It would be a fun holiday season topic for sure.
00:04:23
Speaker
Okay, so that sort of maybe spoiler or what's that called? Preview. There we go. It's foreshadowing. It's looming over the horizon. Yes, the podcast episode of Damocles, if you will, just hanging. So that we just wanted to say again, we might miss something.
00:04:47
Speaker
that's going to happen. We like to be upfront about it.

Prioritizing Mental Health

00:04:51
Speaker
One of the big things we talk about on the show is mental health and giving yourself the time and the space that you need to get done what you need. Sometimes that's just recovery time, taking a break from things. And that's why we always try to practice what we preach. And if we're going to miss weeks, if we're going to take breaks for our own mental health, we want to be upfront about that.
00:05:11
Speaker
We want to share that just in part to say, hey, we practice what we preach. This is important. We try to practice it ourselves though. Sometimes it's easier to tell people than to practice it yourself, but also we just want to normalize that. Things can get tough, especially during these times. There's a lot going on in the holidays season. There's a lot of
00:05:34
Speaker
various practices and family traditions and holiday traditions and religious traditions and things going on. Lots of social stuff to deal with people, sometimes people you don't want to deal with, and sometimes even people you do, but it can still be exhausting to have. I'm at a retreat with some friends all week for playing board games and stuff, and it is socially exhausting even being around people that you're really enjoying.
00:06:01
Speaker
Yeah, but it's also fun times. Yep. And so we will, we're going to try to get podcast episodes. We've got a great topic already figured out for hopefully that we'll get going. We we've got some guests that, um, we're hoping to get scheduled and lined up and recorded, um, that I'd make really excited for all of them. And just, absolutely. There's good stuff coming, you know, when it happens, you know, with the holidays, we'll see, but it'll happen. Yep.
00:06:31
Speaker
And so I guess we'll just close to say, hey, we'll get some episodes out for sure. We'll see how many. We're going to do what we can. But also,

Mental Health Resources for the Holidays

00:06:41
Speaker
I wanted to make sure we had a note to just say, hey, take the time you need. This can be a stressful time of year for many various reasons. Just give yourself
00:06:54
Speaker
that space if you need it and try to practice some self-compassion. It's a thing that I'm not good at. So it's a thing I need a reminder on frequently. Do take care of yourselves. It is a rough time of year. Absolutely. There's a lot going on. Don't
00:07:11
Speaker
By the time this comes out, holiday shopping, nightmare weekend will be over, but try not to stress over it. It's not worth your health or your mental health, anything.
00:07:28
Speaker
deal with all this holiday things. So take at your own pace and do what you can do. Absolutely. And if you are feeling overwhelmed, if you do need help, if you do need to reach out, we have, as always, like all year round, all the time in our show notes, we have various hotlines and warm lines and things if you do need. And there's a list of international lines too. So if you aren't in the US,
00:07:53
Speaker
See, we're based in the United States, so most of our contact stuff is there, but we do have a nice long list of contact lines in other countries as well. So just reach out if you need to. Yeah. And we will talk to you soon. Thank you so much for listening to our podcast. And that's our show for today.
00:08:16
Speaker
You can find both of the hosts on Twitter, hubs can be found at hubsq and Alex can be found at Mel underscore chronicler.
