Hot Takes with Ninja Frog

00:00:49
Speaker
I am uh i'm doing right honestly i'm i'm doing all right today hell yeah we love to hear that well we got a brand new thing to kick off the podcast because you're a returning guest oh and that is hot takes where you get to give us your hottest video game take who my hottest take Oh, jeez. I was not. I barely was not ready for this one. Okay. So I'm trying to think of something that is, you know, okay. I can't think of a specific thing right now, but I think something that comes up a lot is I hear people kind of complain about, Oh, this, this community sucks. This community sucks. We know every community sucks, bro. you know lot that's we like like like ah do I I hear people talk about, OK, I hate how much and the Undertale community is attacking me for how much they have to love. Well, I know. I've heard this from other communities that are like, they really like their game. Well, then that's fine. I feel like I get that from almost any other game that's been like just enough popular. If you can find somebody that's just loud enough because they're the only one loud enough that's going to say something and everybody else just like, I'm enjoying my game in the corner. like
00:02:10
Speaker
I don't know. I just I think it gets blown out of proportion at a drive. I mean, that's what I know. That's that's a good hot take. I like that one a lot. It's also based as fuck right there. Holy shit. I love that. That was great. ah Every community sucks. Oh, they all suck. It's a little bit. Yeah, no, abs that that's great. I love that a lot. ah Well, it was a busy week.
00:02:38
Speaker
That was a busy past two weeks um leading up to this week's episode. um Our headline of the week um is, I want to say that this is probably until, I guess, Gamescom opening night live, which is happening on August 20th, for those of you who don't know, which we'll be covering next time on the podcast.

Recap of Game Showcases

00:02:59
Speaker
While we had the last, I guess, name showcase happen, the THQ Nordic Showcase.
00:03:05
Speaker
Where they showed off a bunch really it was just this was a lot of like hey, here's what's coming um and less of ah Here's we're gonna show you stuff, but we don't have release dates as I think all the two or three titles were given a release date from this. um Starting off, you had the pre-show, which is the handy game showcase where they showed off a bunch of stuff um that they're working on. So you got Oddsparks and Automation Adventure, um which is in early access currently. The Trains and Trains update is coming out later this month, and it's also coming to PS5 and Series X with a demo out right now.
00:03:48
Speaker
Lethal Honor Order the Apocalypse, which is a roguelike that they're working on. Way of the Hunter is coming to mobile devices. A Rat's Quest, the way back home. ah is It's a game where you play as a rat and you go on an adventure. And Tattoo Tycoon, ah one of those good old tattoo ah tattoo tycoon games where you just run a business and like oh ah from the top down perspective type things.
00:04:18
Speaker
Then we go into the actual TSU Nordic showcase um we got a trailer for the eternal life of Goldman Space for sale which is in early access right now um Then the big thing epic Mickey one of the big things of the big thing for me um Epic Mickey rebrushed They showed off the pre-order bonuses which are a bunch of costumes and you'll get 24-hour early access the game releases September 24th for everything and I am very excited that this is getting the remake remaster treatment because I
00:04:55
Speaker
Back when I was younger, I actually had the collector's edition of Epic Mickey like for the Wii. So it came in the box. It came with this like really like a Mickey Mouse with his paintbrush figurine. And that went to my mom immediately because she is a Disney nut. Like she loves, she loves Disney. We have a lot of Disney stuff.
00:05:14
Speaker
um Like really like rare and old Disney stuff and that figurine is kind of like that now um because you i mean Only X amount were made and whatnot. So we still have it. It's still in great condition as well So really cool to see that it's again. I'm excited for this I am gonna play it again and I'm gonna do my best to actually finish the game this time because I never finished it as a kid because I was a kid and I was bad at games and Wreckfest 2 got announced, ah sequel to the very popular Wreckfest, where you drive and wreck each other's shit. ah Titan Quest 2, and then i this this one's a big deal. I never played the original, but I know a lot of people... I know that this is like a cult classic. ah Gothic is getting a remake. got called It's good's called Gothic Remake. This is a remake of the 2001 classic Gothic.
00:06:08
Speaker
um Go check out the trailer if you've never heard of Gothic before, like I have. Looks cool. I like it. I never knew what it was. I had heard of it. That's my, that's basically all I knew. um Way of the Hunter is getting the Lintacuto Reserve DLC or expansion and then the end of the show with by showing this like weird little like setting and they're like a new announcement is coming on Gamescom opening night live and so I'm like I don't know what this means but like like what is this referencing and I look at the YouTube chat on where I watched it
00:06:45
Speaker
Darksiders is going to be getting a huge announcement this Gamescom. So it might be a new Darksiders title or it might be a remake of one of the Darksiders games, which is really cool. um So we have we know one thing that is going to be at Gamescom opening night live now. Guaranteed, it's going to be something with Darksiders.
00:07:09
Speaker
So that's really cool. Overall, it was a solid show, like a quick, like done dirty 30 minute show real really, really nothing too crazy. And yeah, that that i'm excited I'm excited for Epic Mickey. How about you, Ninja Frog? Yeah, I mean, honestly, I am kind of too. I never i played it, ah my friend had it on his Wii and I got to play like five minutes and he's like, I don't like this game.
00:07:36
Speaker
No, I want to play the game I like Nintendo stuff like it's kind of I mean it's the Disney yes, but like it's like it's It's Nintendo more ask if you it's a solid plot like 3d platformer like from what I remember It's so it was a solid 3d platformer with cool with like being 3d sections But like you would transition into like the different areas or worlds via 2d sections And that was really cool. And, you know, I like it because I just like it because like for Disney fans, if you're a Disney fan, like a long time Disney fan, um like the game stars Mickey and Oswald the Rabbit, which if people know the story of Oswald the Rabbit, that was Walt Disney's first character. And then because of some issues and shit, i Walt lost the rights to.
00:08:28
Speaker
ah They lost the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. And it wasn't until recently, like a few years ago now, that they got those rights back.
00:08:41
Speaker
Now, i don't I can't remember what ah what caused Epic Mickey to be made like initially, if they had to like strike a deal with like the originalre with like who had the rights to Oswald to make that or whatnot. I don't know the full depths of that. But now that they had it back, I think they were like, hey, this is maybe a great time for us to maybe try to bring this back. and You know it was a weed game because like the whole point was you would shoot paint or paint thinner from the we remote um Pointing it at the screen and so now they're you know modernizing it for everything to be controller based which I think
00:09:18
Speaker
It works fine because, like, if you've played Skyward Sword Remake on Pro Controller, they did, like, with, like, removing the, like, oh, yeah, there's no, ah like, unless you're playing with Joy-Con where you have to use motion, ah they use, like, the lack of motion pretty well. So I think it'll be great still, and I'm be really excited for it.
00:09:41
Speaker
Yeah, that's definitely a good idea. I think more games that are in motion definitely need to have a backup of the ability to play with controller. OK, I just had a ah thought, but I'm going to save it for today's topic because it's going to fall into more in line there. OK. I think I think the only things I I didn't end up watching this, but I did kind of like glance at some of the games. Yeah. um Eternal Life of Goldman kind of gave me Interest the ah there's something about indie game 2d platformers that like if they hit they hit really hard Yeah, art style looks very interesting. It's kind of like like storybook, but like Mmm
00:10:28
Speaker
indie game 2d platformer eyes i don't know i don't know how to describe it that's just kind of it like it kind of has like is a dusty feeling but it also just looks like a regular 2d platformer um but then i was just watching the gameplay and then listening the music in the background is insane oh dude it looks like a good good time honestly and It looks the most interesting of out of like a lot of the games that they showed. like It's ah it' got those vibes of like, ah what is it? That one game that was shown off at the Nintendo Direct, where it's that Metroidvania looking one that was was like, oh, everyone's like, yo, this looks interesting as fuck. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, that's the that's the vibe that that it kind of gives.
00:11:14
Speaker
Well, yeah, the other one ah that was like in I was was that a rat's quest something something about yeah are rat games i don't know what it want it do they see You see I made the joke when I was watching so like oh yeah, we got a lot of cat games that we're getting a rat game I
00:11:31
Speaker
Think I think I think it might have been games fest here this year last year. We had a lot of frog games, too Yeah, there was yeah frogs. I mean we had another frog game already this year. We had with frog gun encore I Gotta play that I gotta play I played the OG frog and I gotta play the sequel now. Oh my gosh, it's a sequel Yeah, I didn't even know about the sequel either and then I like tuning into traders stream and he's playing frog good encore Mike wait They made a sequel
00:12:01
Speaker
that's amazing hey yeah so like i gotta go play that i gotta play that soon yeah um well that's just a headline of the week there's a bunch of other things that happened this week and we're goingnna dive into all of those so with a week it review Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the Week in Review.
00:12:25
Speaker
and Starting off with the major game releases you got thank goodness you're here a slap former Comedy game actually really fun and really funny um if you're British I'm sorry for laughing but like it makes fun of the British a lot. There's a lot of fucking Insulting the British um that trailer was insane like like watching Like five seconds of it. I'm like this looks amazing Being of the game made me feel like I was on a drug trip. It was great. I Kid you not I played I played it on my switch at work um For my night shift that I do and I'm like, yeah, this game is crazy
00:13:09
Speaker
I had a lot of laughs. That time I got reincarnated as a s Slide Isekai, which is a game for but that series. I don't know what kind of game it is, but it's a game. ah Cat Quest 3, which I'm actually excited for. I played the first two Cat Quests earlier this year, and I will do i will definitely try to play Cat Quest 3 as well, um because they're just really fucking fun games.
00:13:33
Speaker
Keith today tails pepper grinder made its way to the PlayStation and Xbox systems and steam world heist to Those are some of the games that came out this past week in the world of game news as I stated on top games com opening night live August 20th will be covering everything but that that That's announced at the show in the next episode with ah our good friend Mac Ryan Mac ah So look forward to that folks Valorant is ah Left of the beta stages on consoles and is now officially out on ah PlayStation and Xbox Which yeah that kind of it was just like oh ah shit it happened.
00:14:21
Speaker
And don't worry, ah you cannot get matched with PC players. It is all local console matchmaking per system. So everyone's bad because that is a game for mouse and keys. I am sorry. I'm sure I'm sure the game is popular enough that we have plenty of people playing on console. Yeah, I'm sure there will be. I'm sure there will be.
00:14:48
Speaker
ah Harry Potter quiz champions had its first gameplay trailer and they announced that the game will be free with PlayStation Plus ah for September after September 3rd through 30th, it'll be free to it'll be free to get And one thing I want to add about that that game that It's 30 bucks. I was like, I was like, it's not free, but like 30, that's like, that's exactly about the price that I would pay for something. That's like only like, if I'm going to have to pay for something that's mostly going to be online, like, but I think there's not a guy or mode to like, like, come on. I just need a little bit of cheaper and that that's i've I'd be more interested in paying. Yeah, honestly. Yeah, no, definitely. We'll see how that goes. I'll definitely give it a try.
00:15:35
Speaker
So just because I need more games to play that actually came out this year, I'm sitting at a low number on those. I've been playing a lot of like retro older games this year. In Mortal Kombat 1 news, they're adding six brand new fighters, new story content, and a whole lot more with the Chaos Reigns expansion, which will be arriving on the 24th of August. Cyrax, Noob Saibot, and Sector will be, ah oh, sorry, September 24th is when those three arrive along with the expansion, while three guest characters, the T-1000 Terminator, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian,
00:16:15
Speaker
will be arriving later on after the initial ah release. um so six So look forward to that if you're a Mortal Kombat 1 player. ah In LEGO news, b LEGO is has announced a brand new Super Mario World themed set featuring Yoshi! Yoshi! So Yoshi will be alongside Mario in this next LEGO set, and that's super hype. Love to see that.
00:16:42
Speaker
ah In Yakuza news Akira Nishkiyama has been cast in the Yakuza series his character the the character Akira Nishkiyama has been cast and We've got another teaser trailer for it. The actor playing Nishkiyama is Kento Kaku who is known for his role in House of Ninjas from Netflix ah And the layman news about the game that's being worked on by obsidian basically new Skyrim, but not officially Skyrim a set like if you liked Skyrim and oblivion you'll like you'll most likely like about It's been delayed to February now. So it's no longer coming out this year. It's coming out next year
00:17:26
Speaker
But honestly, with games like these, because again, it's it's like it's it's your but it's classic Bethesda type game, you kind of want them to have like as much polish as they possibly can before they release. Yeah. yeah've give them Give them some time to cook. Exactly, exactly. Let them cook even more. Put them back in the kitchen. They're going for round two.
00:17:51
Speaker
Uh, in the worst news this week, Bungie had massive layoffs, letting off 220 employees, which has shaken up the company and and they were bad. Holy fuck. They took to Twitter and were really, really, really, really, really. This was a blind side that they didn't see coming. Like, usually you can see like layoffs coming from a mile away. Uh, this was, uh,
00:18:17
Speaker
Yeah, they are. Bungie really hurt themselves with that one. So my gosh, dude, there's got to be another way, like, like ever since. um ah Yeah, no the way is having the CEO of Bungie not buy expensive cars.
00:18:33
Speaker
what yeah that's true yeah they they were calling out to like his spending and like all that is like yeah you need to really fucking uh i don't know take a pay cut yeah well that that's ever ever since i saw i like looked at i'm pretty sure i haven't like fact checked this but i'm pretty sure there's This is true that like the CEO, I don't remember which one of Nintendo of Japan was like that that came into an occurrence, but instead of. Instead of laying off people.
00:19:07
Speaker
took a pay cut, gave it to the employees, which makes more sense. You want the employees to stay, so you keep employees, so then you actually have people that are, but then they're also getting more of an incentive to work harder, so then you can fix the problem that's there. Like, don't, don't, why are we- Exactly. It doesn't make any sense. Well, you're rich as well. It's like, well, I don't need to get much richer than where I'm at. I can take that pay cut and still be fine.
00:19:34
Speaker
and everything, so yeah. Also, it's it actually is other sad news, and this one this one's very sad. The Xbox 360 store has officially shut it down after twenty nearly 20 long years, leaving hundreds of exclusive Xbox 360 arcade games and just games that were exclusive to the store and DLC gone unaccessible forever.
00:20:03
Speaker
There are, um I believe, video game historians are working on getting, like, a 360, like, some stuff to, like, archive those games and, like, get them into, like, video game archive museums, at least so that way. But, like, there are works to try to recover these, at least and... Preserve them but uh rest in peace xbox 360 store You were my first experience second experience with but um online game stores My first being the wee shop channel which died years ago Oh no
00:20:37
Speaker
ah In some indie game news, indie studio The Behemoth has announced a huge slate of updates and releases for a lot of older games that you probably recognize. Alien, Hominid, HD, and Invasion are coming to ah peace. PS4 and PS5. Battle Block Theater is getting a Quality of Life update. what And Castle Crashers is getting a Painter Boss Paradise update, allowing custom characters and a whole shit ton of Steam Workshop stuff. um Plus a visual update and new character, which are also could be available right off the Steam Workshop.
00:21:19
Speaker
Yeah, no one saw this coming. And there's also apparently some other things that they aren't allowed to talk about quite yet that they're working on too. So that's huge. Holy. didn' it I didn't think I would see any news about any of that on my 2024 big go card. But here we are. Wow.
00:21:40
Speaker
What the heck? I mean, I feel like all these are like oldish games. I wonder what's like making them ah do this. But I guess they're still popping. But i yeah I mean, yeah, people like them. And I mean, it's a good reason to go play them again. So why not? um More sad news. A lot of sad news this week, guys. I'm sorry. So the IOC, the Olympic Committee, they chose not to renew its licensing deal with Nintendo and Sega.
00:22:07
Speaker
is officially the end of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. There will be no more of those games being made, ever. Unless, well, if they decide to ever renew it or start a new contract with it, they will, but they ended the contract. They're done. I didn't realize that's what it was. Yeah. they I thought it was like Nintendo or Sega. No, it was the Olympic. The Olympic Committee is like, actually, NFTs sound like a good idea.
00:22:37
Speaker
And I just gotta say, out of all the horrible decisions that the Olympic Committee makes, because it's a lot, there's a lot of them, the Olympics, as cool as they are, they fucking suck, they put cities in debt, and they're just not good at it, like, okay, I shouldn't say they're not good, there's some cool stuff that happens at the Olympics, it's good for the athletes, I like, you know, it's for them, but like, what happens behind the scenes is really fucking shitty.
00:23:03
Speaker
And, like, also, Paris has dirty water, and, uh, Emmanuel Macron is a fuckin' moron for not trying to do shit to clean that up. Anyways, that's how political I'm getting today. Uh, Dead by Daylight is collaborating! Five Nights at Freddy's is coming to Dead by Daylight!
00:23:28
Speaker
Let's go. Let's go. Now, this is still like a year out or so, but Freddy Fazbear will soon be hunting down innocent people in a forest. A year out? What? Well, yeah, there's like a lot of dead by daylight stuff that still hasn't come up today. They just made the announcement that like, hey, coming soon. And yeah, realistically, like the articles I read, it's like, yeah, it's probably like a year out. Jeez, dude.
00:23:54
Speaker
Yeah, so look forward to that soon, or in a while. um The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom got a brand new trailer showing off the overworld areas, horse traveling, and smoothie making, and the ability Bind, which lets you move big objects or lets you get moves by objects.
00:24:14
Speaker
uh fuck this game is looking better and better with more we see i am so excited for this the trailer was insane i was like who do the trailer do trailer and i was like oh oh ok ok okay okay who let yuji naka cook oh my gosh dude They let him cook they let him cook. It's this is gonna be a great solid game. Holy um lollipop chainsaw repop the remake of light pop chainsaw Guess what it didn't get delayed. It got moved up is now coming out September 12th Instead of late September gosh, but so Wow Love to see that love to see that that's incredible And lastly in the gaming news stuff the last of us season two has first official teaser trailer
00:25:08
Speaker
um and it showed it just it was It showed a little bit of stuff. you We got to see Pedro Pascal. um We got our first look at the person playing Abby. and it looks i don't think this is I don't know if Season 2 is following the events of the second game or if it's like a tie-in of like events between the first two games.
00:25:33
Speaker
So I don't really know where they're going with it yet once that episode one drops yeah Spoiler alert, I mean if you've played the games you already know if you're in the gaming community you already know But for those who have it spoiler alert coming up plug plug your ears if they kill Joel in the first episode We know that's gonna be following the offense of the second game So ah That's so that's what we're gonna be waiting on Taking a look for will they shoot him if they don't shoot in the first episode my prediction is it's gonna be the events between the two games and The season finale will be them killing Joel at that moment at that at like to start the second game That's my prediction. That's probably good It'd be a good shock factory people be like what the fuck did they just do that for? Everyone else like they did that in the game. That's supposed to happen
00:26:30
Speaker
Or sorry that you missed your Pedro Pascal daddy, but he's got to go film the Fantastic Four.
00:26:39
Speaker
Yeah. um In the live service gaming news areas with FF14 news first, ah the Gongsha collaboration. If you purchase three drinks in Gongsha, you can receive a code for a King Porksey Mount. All across North America, codes are region-wide.
00:26:57
Speaker
Goes till August 28th. Also going until ah the end of the month is the Moonfire Fair event. It's back. You can get yourself a new emote and you can try to climb the Eorzea Ninja Warrior Challenge.
00:27:14
Speaker
And you'll want to see how i if you want to see how that went, you can go to my YouTube channel and watch ah part one and two of me and my friends attempting to climb it and suffering.
00:27:26
Speaker
Also, the China Fan Fest happened for FFXIV and they gave us a quite a bit of a peek at some things. We got some screenshots. of Future's rewritten Ultimate, um teas showing us that the Thancred Ranjeet hybrid thing that we had to fight in, ah what was it? E11 is going to be part of this fight. We got ah the first bit of details for the Dawn Trail Field Ops, ah the first zone, the Occult Crescent. We got two images for Cosmic Exploration. And also, they announced a mobile game for FF14 called Crystal World.
00:28:07
Speaker
And that's really all we know. there's ah another mobile There's a new mobile game coming for it, which is interesting. And now we go to esports to get our Apex Legends report from Myst.
00:28:22
Speaker
It's ya boi, Mist here, with your update into all things Apex Legends related. The Apex Legends portion of the Esports World Cup took place August 1st to 4th, using a new format with more games played and a higher matchpoint barrier. Superteen Falcons started out hot finishing 1st in their group and setting the overall highest points for the finals, but it was Team Alliance that was able to secure the matchpoint victory after a record setting 13 game series. The next competitive event will be the split 2 ALGS playoffs taking place August 29th to September 1st in Mannheim, Germany. In other news, Apex has launched their 22nd season of Apex Legends, dropping a new map e-district, new akimba weapons, and several gameplay changes as well as a new battle pass system. This season so far has been well received with little complaints from the core players. Apex is a long way to go, but after giving this split's battle pass for free and promising to listen to the community after so much backlash, it appears as though the game is finally stable and in a healthy state after quite a few bad seasons. It's been Mist, signing off.
00:29:20
Speaker
in the TCG news. Pokemon, Shadow Fable, that's out now. ah Stellar Crown releases September 13th. In Yu-Gi-Oh!, the Light of Destruction booster packs are out now. And the 25th anniversary tin, Dueling Mirrors, is set to release on September 20th.
00:29:37
Speaker
hu In Magic the Gathering, Bloomborough is out now. Duskborn, House of Horror, releases September 27th. And Magic the Gathering foundations on November 15th.
00:29:50
Speaker
And in Disney, Lorkana, Shivering Skies releases August 23rd. That's about it ah for ah the week in gaming, this ah this week in review. Any final thoughts on any of those, Ninja Frog? um You know, it's just...
00:30:14
Speaker
Maybe, maybe we'll just, maybe the contract for Mario no Tonic will come back. I hope it does. I really hope it does. Like it's been, it's, it's just so sad. It kind of is like, when you think about like, I think like every game or like most of them,
00:30:34
Speaker
Because they only did one winter Olympic Games, didn't they? Like they did the Vancouver ones and then they did they just kind of stuck to the summer games, didn't they? Oh, I think after that, because it was Beijing. They didn't think actually, you know what, I can Google this. What am I talking about? Why use my memory? What can do? What? OK, so when would have been then the next winter? So twenty fourteen was the first one. Twenty for twenty thousand and eight was the first one.
00:31:04
Speaker
No, the first winter one. Oh, the first winter one was 2010. 2010, OK. I'm pretty sure. Where are the fucking? OK, this is this is a list. Here we go. Mars on the Olympic Games released in 2007 for the Wii and in 2008 for the DS. ah Then you had the London 2012 games and 2011. You had the Rio 2016 games and you had the the. Twenty twenty Tokyo games.
00:31:36
Speaker
Oh, OK, sorry, they did have to winter Olympics. They had the winter Olympic ones, which was with Vancouver. And then they did the Sochi 2014 one. And that was on the Wii U. And that's ah that's what they did. That's what they did. But then I guess I guess they skipped. So 2018, I don't know what. mar So it was Mario and Sonic and Winter Olympics that it was London Olympics.
00:32:05
Speaker
And then Sochi. And then Rio. Oh, yeah, I guess they would have skipped the 2018 winter. I see I see one on some fan website, but I have no idea if it's actually real. I don't think it is. 2018 Winter Olympics were in Pyeongchang. Right. I don't think the game exists. Yeah, no, they didn't do it. I didn't. They didn't do that one. I think that's because but it was.
00:32:34
Speaker
Yeah, they just didn't do that one. I don't know why. There might have been. I don't know why they didn't do one that year. I guess maybe the Winter Olympic Games weren't selling as well, because, I mean, I don't know. I can only theorize at this point that I don't even know. It's like, I don't know. It's just missing like one of the years, like everything. It's like a pretty good track record. And it's just like no 2018. What happened there? Yeah. I mean, I guess it was the Wii. Oh, wait, is it that when they switched over to the switch?
00:33:04
Speaker
That might be why. That might be why, actually, because that was like the right right where the switch started. And it was like, oh let's just give you that waste rate for the twenty twenty one. Yeah, that's unfortunate. That might be why. It might have been something on their end or maybe the others were like, ah or maybe their contract only had one more game and they're like, let's do that one more summer. oh Yeah, I could have been it.
00:33:29
Speaker
Because we we don't know, like, we don't know what the contract looks like. Yeah. So ah ah i got I love speculated. Oh, yeah ah well, that's everything in the world of gaming news. Moving on to everything that's coming out. Here's what should be on your radar from August 12th to 23rd. From AAA titles, indie hits, hidden gems and hot pieces of garbage. Here are the games coming out that should be on your radar.
00:33:58
Speaker
um There's a and first oh I completely forgot to write this down rest in peace is game informer Rest in peace game informer game informer got shut down By their parent company game stop and like they didn't get sold or anything No, they just shut it down. You cannot access the game informer website anymore all their articles everything that they've ever done gone and And now why am I bringing this up now? So Game Informer, ever since I started this podcast, Game Informer put out a list of every video game that would be coming out in the year that we knew of and the release dates. That is how it was like one of my main sources of how I would put together my on your radar list.
00:34:51
Speaker
And now I don't have access to it anymore because of GameStop. So GameStop, go fuck yourself. Fuck you. How dare you do this? Wow.
00:35:05
Speaker
That's a big. Oh, and that's a big drop for like what? That's like one of the big things you get free with with their like plus thing. If you go to GameStop and you get their rewards program and you pay for it, you can get a free thing of gaming for it. Like that's what it's like. Well, I don't know what they're going to do about that. Yeah. So they they shut it down. And I'm like, well, you know what? GameStop, I'm going to let your tank ah I've got your tank.
00:35:33
Speaker
I'm gonna let your stock tank. I was gonna say I was gonna let your tank stock what? that was I'm gonna let game stops stock tank now because Dave made me mad It's not like I really purchase a lot of stuff that game stop anymore now that I have a bigger SD card on my switch I have no reason to buy physical games anymore Realistically unless I really really want one so um
00:36:03
Speaker
Yeah, um thankfully there are other sources other sites out there that are keeping track of it, but rest in peace, Game Informer. We hardly knew ye. um So, as for games coming out, on the 12th Operation Polygon Storm comes out for the PC. On the 13th Stormgate comes to the PC. On the 14th Hellbreach Vegas comes to the PC as well as Love Ghosty pet odd and Streets of Rogue 2. Sandin Max, The Devil's Playhouse Remastered also releases on the 14th for everything.
00:36:35
Speaker
On the 15th, Grappledog's Cosmic Canines releases on the Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC. And on the 16th, Madden NFL 25 comes out on everything but the Switch. Nothing think on the 19th, but on the 20th, Black Myth Wukong comes out for the PlayStation 5 and PC, and Tactical Breach Wizards comes to the PC.
00:36:57
Speaker
On the 21st and no tree on the last song comes the PS5 and PC and my lovely Empress comes to the Series X Switch and PC and Office Fight also comes to the PC.
00:37:09
Speaker
hu On the 22nd, Elrin Taros, Wanderlings comes to the PC, Tales from Toyotoki, Arrival of the Witch comes to the PS5 and Switch, and Wild West Dynasty releases on the PC. And lastly, on the 23rd, Concord releases on the PS5 and PC.
00:37:29
Speaker
ah So the big game of these two weeks, um obvious, it's Blacksmith Wukong. Massive, massive game. We say massive. This game looks very promising. People are very excited for it as a new Souls-like game. It looks so cool. I'm so excited. And it's coming to PC right away. Yes, it is. And, you know, hopefully the game doesn't suck monkey balls. That's all we can hope for.
00:38:07
Speaker
Uh, yeah, that's, that is the truth. That's really all we can hope for, because if this game sucks, it's going to put a huge damper on the AAA industry of video games. This is, this is one of 2024's like most anticipated releases. If not, i if not the most anticipated, I mean, um, Rebirth was up there, I guess, but this is another one that's up there.
00:38:37
Speaker
um Other games that you should of of these of this list Sam and max the devil's playhouse getting remastered really cool If you've never played a seven max game, they're pretty witty funny point-and-click games From what I know of it for the Madden heads bad at 25 I mean, it's just your roster yearly roster update for the Madden game. Oh, yeah and Concord I want to say this is a big release, but like, I mean, it is technically because it's like first party PlayStation that's working on it. Or like, because play if for those who don't remember, hey, remember the PlayStation showcase? No, you probably don't because it was shit.
00:39:22
Speaker
um ah Concord was that first game they showed off and it's like, oh, this looks interesting. And then they're like, it's a hero shooter. And we were all just disappointed.
00:39:36
Speaker
this know The thing about this game, now the thing they are making this game... free with PS Plus, I think. So I'll maybe check it out and tell you guys if it's worth it. But like, this is not going to be. I'm this is this game's not going to do good. I'm going to tell you that right now. The height, like the instant like, ooh, like it's not. and ah ah Yeah. A quick search says early. It's free to all PS Plus members in all tiers. Yeah.
00:40:11
Speaker
Yup. So I'll maybe check it out, because I'm fine not spending anything to go check out something, even if I don't like it. Because I'm not spending my money on something I don't like, so... ah It's more than I can say than the KO, the Kangaroo remake. That game sucked. And I had to spend money on that. Oh no. Anyway.
00:40:35
Speaker
Anyway, that's everything that should be on your radar. It's now time for us to dive in ah to our main focus this week in the Game Lounge.
00:40:45
Speaker
Conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers and anything else that's important to us. Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge. And our first topic of the day, Nintendo. Who let them cook?
00:41:03
Speaker
Seriously what it's been a year for Nintendo with a lot of like really specifically Mario oddly enough Getting a whole bunch of remakes and remasters of old games. You've had a Like if you want to take a look at the Mario franchise entirely new game wise, they gave us princess peach show show time, which, you know, it was a solid game for what it is. It's a pretty good game. I a hundred percent of that game. I did everything that you could do in that game. Cause it was, you know, it was fun. It was a good time killer, but like you had Mario and Donkey Kong remake, you had Mario RPG remake, you had that was this year, right? Yeah. Yeah. Donkey Kong and yeah.
00:41:50
Speaker
And you had the Thousand Year Door remake. Not to mention, Luigi's Mansion 2 also getting ported up to the Switch as well. um And... chuck It's just... but And Brothership on the way. These old Mario franchises are getting remakes and remasters. Do you think we're gonna see any more of these before the Switch's lifespan ends, Ninja Frog? ah Um...
00:42:19
Speaker
I was trying to sift through like what other games that could be. I don't like Mario wise. I don't know what else they could do. like I guess you could do the other Paper Mario, but they just they usually give a gap in between Paper Mario games. And we do have access to the first Paper Mario on the Switch already through NSO.
00:42:39
Speaker
yeah But it's not like they haven't done that where they did, what, they had the remake from Mystery Dungeon, and now they're bringing the old Mystery Dungeon back to NSO. Yeah, that was a wild announcement that came out. Just to summarize, yeah, what Ninja Rock said, Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team is coming to Game Boy Advance Online through NSO. Yeah, it was like last a year or two ago, I feel. Time's a blur.
00:43:10
Speaker
that we got Mystery Dungeon DX, the remake of the Rescue Team, which had like a bit more stuff like you could mega evolve with certain Pokรฉmon and a few other things. But it's like, oh, wait, what? So it's crazy to see that they're doing a lot of this. um And it's like, and we're like, dude, that we, because we even said like the switch is on, it's like,
00:43:36
Speaker
not it's last Like last legs in a sense of like it's it's like dying but like it's like It's dying like we're throwing knives at this shit is like I'm not done. yet Yeah pretty much like every time you think it's about to die because like okay, we get like a drought of games or like I we don't get a nintendo direct for a little bit and it's like okay well that this past one was rough that was like we're we have nothing for the rest of the year all of a sudden we get slammed with like this and that it's like what's going on they're like they're really trying to cook this game this switch out of the into the death
00:44:16
Speaker
Honestly, yeah, yeah, it's crazy that it's like it's happening and now it makes me wonder What what other franchises ah what franchises are next that they're gonna revive through like either a remake or just putting it on NSO? Cuz like yeah, you really think about the star fee games got revived and put on and like on region locked finally ah They're now all really the the the three star fee games are through are now available through GBA online. I yeah
00:44:48
Speaker
I didn't know that. Yeah, but they put that that's like that it was really it was recent um that they did that. But yeah, they did that. So you can now play the Starfy games. um Like, I mean, that when they made the 64 online, we got access to sin and punishment, which was a Japan exclusive. We've we've got to to rock and perfect dark on there. um We have Banjo Kazooie, but I'm surprised you don't have Banjo Tooie. Yeah, I don't.
00:45:19
Speaker
ah I mean, I guess there could be. Yeah, I don't know why they haven't done that yet. Yeah, I'm sure. I mean, I guess it's generally just not as popular. Well, I mean, I think it's popular. Like, come on, if you know Kazooie is, but I don't know how popular two years. I mean, you might as well like you have the first. That's the first one. The first one's a beloved one. And the sequel is pretty good, too. I mean, from what I've heard again, I've played the original. I've never got to play the sequel. I play the original on the Xbox 360.
00:45:48
Speaker
Oh, what else? So we got like with some like things we keep getting. I mean, you've brought up some stuff, but like some crossovers are like games that are being brought over from Japan, like Chrono Cross, I think was only in Japan, maybe. And then like Live Alive was a game that was only in Japan. And now we're all of a sudden getting it every year. Yeah.
00:46:10
Speaker
and It seemed like it did pretty okay. But like, and then ah another, okay, Prowse Near Door remake. We thought that was never gonna happen. Paper Mario was going ah forever away from the the base foundation of...
00:46:27
Speaker
more sorry like yeah it was leaving the term a starpg Which again which have started happening with the third Paper Mario if you really want to think about but the third paper Mario is still good because it's still it has RPG elements It was just more of an ARPG and I really liked the third one because that was my first paper Mario game Okay. Yeah, like I love Super Paper Mario. It's it's really good. It's really good Fuck it. It's an incredible story Yeah, well, well that that's what that's what it brought. That's what was important about the pay of Mario was like the the story. The world was very had a lot of character to it. And then the the text was hilarious and goofy. And then it was just like interesting gameplay. And so then.
00:47:15
Speaker
when it was going too much around gimmicks and kind of resorting away from that is when it, like, was dying off. But yeah, I don't know. So ah we get that. I mean, Super Mario RPG was also another thing that, like, OK, we joked about getting Geno into Smash. We got them as a costume. But now we got a remake for it. Like, so then they just keep dropping and dropping and dropping and dropping things. And it's like, whoa.
00:47:42
Speaker
Yeah, and the the RPG remake was surprising because we're like what the fuck Square Enix said yes Yeah Which they did and we're like, okay, then thanks square. Thank you. And we were all happy Yeah Seriously, and then like okay prime prime four. Yeah, we probably got getting fucking footage five four that's Yeah, I kept hope because I thought, okay, we we had Metroid Primary mastered and we were told it restarted and its we were got rumors of interviews and like job postings for
00:48:22
Speaker
um people that to work on the game or something that's similar to like most likely like a first person shooter. And okay, so then that was seemed like it was gonna be better in 5.4. I didn't lose hope. And now they've dropped it and they're putting love into a game and to a franchise that is hasn't gotten too much love just like Pikmin, like Pikmin 4.
00:48:43
Speaker
just like got it came out with a bang and then they dropped one and two on the switch now we have all of them it's just like ah so many franchises that they don't give love to they're all of a sudden just like coming out in the light i think like there's only a few more left that are like ah star fox and f zero There's probably one I'm missing. I mean Donkey Kong's barely like, they like, okay, this new remake is coming out next year. But like, we haven't got a new game in years. I think it's almost a decade since Tropical Freeze came out.
00:49:19
Speaker
Yeah, um, sorry, I was just, um, breaking news on the podcast real quick. It's not Nintendo related at all. Um, it's also not really breaking news. If you expected this, uh, borderlands has gotten its run tomatoes score. The movie 0% on rotten tomatoes. What?
00:49:44
Speaker
Oh, what? Well, just what you say, man, the video game like movie TV industry is like really doing a pretty good. Like we got Fallout and Sonic's been doing good and like a bunch of other things. Borderlands has ruined it, folks. They ruined it. 33. It's literally I just got three percent with 35 reviews. It's three percent. How do you get that?
00:50:14
Speaker
Gosh dude, I mean I have DB is 4.7 oil. Yeah four lads fun fun games. There's so much you could have done with a movie and I'm not gonna say I'm surprised cuz I'm like this. Yeah, does it look great? With their cast like I thought I think like the best choice that I thought Jack black is claptrap was like maybe not a bad choice but the rest of the cast just felt I Yeah, they're pushing it. I think I think tiny Tina was like, okay. Yeah, cuz like like Yeah, all right. Well, that's uh, oh that's a God Well, that's good. That's gonna lose that's that studio somebody It's a man. He was a lot of buddy lost. Anyway back to Nintendo.
00:51:08
Speaker
OK, so so bringing it back around, just like what I was trying to kind of wrap in a circle is like, OK, even just this last direct, OK, Mario and Luigi is coming back. The first ever like kind of mainline, like. ah Actually playing only Zelda Zelda game, or I guess maybe we I guess we could play playing link at some point. I mean, you could play it as Zelda in the higher warriors play.
00:51:38
Speaker
So like that that's a lot of like new things or things we've like wanted or things coming back and it's like, okay, they're like,
00:51:50
Speaker
They're confident in this console, and they just keep throwing things at it and knowing people are going to keep coming back. It's insane. so it absolutely is. I personally think that before the Switch ends, we're going to see two things happen still. yeah I think that they're going to, most like most realistically, I think they're going to put the entire Metroid Prime trilogy on the Switch, realistically, because it makes the most sense.
00:52:17
Speaker
especially if Metroid Prime 4 does get a release on like, they do what the Wii U did, they do what Breath of the Wild did, it was on the Wii U and the Switch, where they do Prime 4 is on the Switch and the next console. Yeah.
00:52:34
Speaker
And so they then as like a thing they put one through three and maybe Prime Hunters as well from the DS. ah Because the like the thing we saw in the trailer is Psylux from Prime Hunters. Okay. That's that character that we saw at the end of the trailer. Yeah.
00:52:54
Speaker
And ah so we so putting that on there as like on the Switch and maybe also putting it onto the new console as well, those the the Prime series.
00:53:04
Speaker
like we It makes sense like I expect us that we're gonna see that because they did it for Pikmin where you can now play all four Pikmin games on the switch ah Except for yeah all four mainline Pikmin games you can't play that that spin-off hey Pikmin That was on the the 3ds Although they could put it to the switch because it was just like what it was just a platformer.
00:53:29
Speaker
Yeah. So like they could put it on there if they really, really want to do that. um And I'm i'm the hoping, I'm praying that they put the Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD on the Switch. Yeah. I'm praying for those. There was the only two like Wii U titles that are like, why can't you just bring it over to the Switch like everyone else wants? Yeah.
00:53:56
Speaker
Yeah, but I agree. I think that the those two. So I agree with the Metroid Prime. I am. My assumption is at the end. So like they're going to get close to um the switch to your announcement, maybe, and we're depending on when they release it. So like if we're going to say switch to comes out next winter or maybe it's 2026. Yeah, it's most likely those are the most those are the most realistic expectations from. What Nintendo has told us of what, of, cause again, we are technically in the window period of they could announce to switch to any between now and March. That's what we know. I think it's April technically because it's like, Oh yeah. yeah yeah yeah yeah years right yeah yeah But that's basically where we know the tweet anytime between now and then is when we know they're going to announce it. Yeah.
00:54:50
Speaker
So realistically, it'll either be winter of next year or 2026. Yeah, I had i had to I told that like one of our years. Yeah.
00:55:03
Speaker
I honestly, i depending on what their lineup is still, if they have other things like cooking um and the slow cooker, I could see it being like a spring. Because ah when the Switch came out in the spring, it was weird. But I felt like it worked really well. So like if they have a lot of things or a couple of things like that are big franchises that are coming out, maybe like a new Mario 3D platforming or Mario, maybe it's a new Mario Odyssey or like something similar,
00:55:32
Speaker
um just and maybe some sort of a new Zelda or I don't know, I mean, some big bangers that they're going to land on the switch to real list. Yeah, for the real for realistic switch to your're your big bangers that you're going to get, you're going to get a 3D Mario platformer guaranteed. You're going to get a 3D Zelda guaranteed. I don't know what they'll do. I don't think I think they're kind of done with that. The whole with modern Hyrule now, like with the Breath of the Wild is in the Kingdom Hyrule. I think we're kind of done with that.
00:56:02
Speaker
And we're probably going to see something new again, but like more 3D, less 2D. Yeah. And Prime 4 makes the most sense as well, being essentially a launch title for it as well. Like it's a huge incentive for them to do it, because even when they announced Prime 4, they didn't say just like it it was coming to the Nintendo Switch. It wasn't specifically said in the trailer.
00:56:32
Speaker
So yeah, that's a possibility as well. But like those are gonna be your three big things Yeah, and then obviously later on you'll have your mainline Pokemon game Cuz EA is gonna be on the switch. There's no doubt like it's set for like it's coming out on a switch It's coming out on a switch which I'm excited for cuz we're gonna it's gonna put the remaining Pokemon that are Not available in Every other switch game on the switch. Oh Yeah, cuz when you think about it, there's only like two four six. I think there's like eight It's fur through and the the element monkeys from black and white. Oh Say and I think spinda as well, but I oh it's spinda and then watch on pat rat and watch hog and
00:57:26
Speaker
Let's go. but But that's sick though. let that but that's ah That's just it. That's bring all the whole collection together. That's great. Okay. um what What I wanted to get into a little bit, of which other Nintendo franchises would we like to see kind of get this treatment of like remakes or just things that need to be coming back? Remakes are just like brought back.
00:57:50
Speaker
brought yeah but onto NSO essentially. Yeah, exactly. um One I'd like to see, I feel like Yoshi has kind of gotten the rough treatment. I don't think Yoshi's Crafted World did it as well as they would have wanted to. um and But what Yoshi's Woolly World um came out and with a bang and it was really good and i really would love them to just like they've been cooking out some they i mean they just brought out another and kirby remake i really feel like this is a good time probably next year or something before the switch dies i feel like that would be a good time to just drop a new yoshi bring back yoshi's woolly world or i mean i guess i could remake the game
00:58:36
Speaker
or like bring it make a new game. But like, I don't know, I would love to see Woolly World back and be less work for them. And it would just be. I think it would sell a lot on Switch, because it's just a they could bring back more the woolly, squishy, plushy amiibos like do like what? Like it sells like ah all of them are like hard, but like it's an amiibo that works and it's squishy. Like, come on.
00:59:02
Speaker
I don't know. I think I would love to see that. um Yoshi, I could see... um Yeah, no, I'd love to see that. The only other franchise, I mean, I'd love to see F-Zero be refurbished. um but I'd like to see ah just a new F-Zero game. yeah it's like we you have We have access to F-Zero X.
00:59:25
Speaker
through N64 NSO and F-Zero's Game Boy game and the original F-Zero as well, obviously. yeah like We have like essentially everything but GX because GX was its GameCube game and there's no GameCube NSO yet. I feel like if they also if they do a GameCube NSO, I feel like they're saving it for the next console.
00:59:48
Speaker
Yeah, I kind of agree because they would have put it out by now at least to give it like You know time to breathe and become itself So I feel like and what I hope Nintendo does is they keep the NSO and they just like hey the NSO service that you know And love basically everything that's there already gonna be on the new console So that way so all those games there as well, which is like a huge Plus to like instantly subscribing to the service again on the new console um And whatnot or your subscription carries over or whatever. They'll have you do with it or however they do that So it makes the most sense if it's like also game tube Yeah
01:00:34
Speaker
And then it's like, okay, which games do they bring over? Mario Sunshine, obviously, because even though they gave us that triple pet, the Mario 50th, that Mario collection of the three games, which was a limited edition exclusive thing, which I have, I own it. But like you have Mario 64 on NSO, which yeah according to speed runners is the better version anyway, because of the version they put on.
01:01:00
Speaker
NSO compared to the version they had on the cartridge. oh no So yeah you have that one. You could put melee in there if you really wanted to, which would be great. I would love if they put smash melee on NSO. I think that would be a big yeah they be a big one. I feel like if they put a smash game on NSO, it would be the original one first for Oh yeah, what the heck? That would be awesome! Also, I'm surprised they haven't even done that yet, because like, yeah, sure, but you have Smash Ultimate, which is like, it's a good it's a great Smash game, but like, you you know, people like the oldies. People still play Melee.
01:01:44
Speaker
um' be awesome but you got that you're most likely gonna look at that there's a chance that F zero GX gets put on there is a chance they put fire emblem radiant dawn on there or path of radiance yeah um um possibly double dash ah Maybe a couple of the Mario parties because you have Mario party one through three on NSO So like you could put four through seven on there. So I feel like i God I like to be like free people like I feel like that would bring a lot of people to it why is a lot of people really like the old Mario
01:02:17
Speaker
Um, and then if you really, really wanted to, if you, if Pokemon said yes, you put Pokemon XD and Coliseum on there. And that was true that fraious through So through it. So you allow transferring into Pokemon home from those.
01:02:33
Speaker
Oh, geez, I just I don't know. I think I don't know if there's like a break between like companies or what. It just feels like it's never going to happen. It's just but those those are specifically because they were done by. Oh, it's like Sonoma. Yeah, you you know which one I hold on. I have the games right next to me because my shelf. Hold on.
01:03:03
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, I didn't even have to reach for the game it just came to me cuz I'm a genius boom But I would love to see just those to play it just to play it to play up on the go like imagine like Like, the Switch has done so much. Like, despite it not being as powerful as, like, the other consoles, it's still a really good console because of the Nintendo first-party stuff that they they have. That, like, they don't need to run these big, powerful games. They have the indie scene, like, Nintendo Switch in indies love ah and Nintendo first-party games love them.
01:03:49
Speaker
And it's like, that's all you really need with a Nintendo console nowadays.
01:03:55
Speaker
Some extra ones I think I thought of as a toadstool tour. I think some of the Mario sports games of that era. Toadstool tour, baseball, and strikers were all a really good time. And tennis, power tennis too. Power tennis, yeah. I think something probably less popular, but I had a lot of fun playing growing up with Star Fox Adventure.
01:04:22
Speaker
No, I wouldn't mind seeing that one again Star Fox assault though. that Yes. Yes, exactly. I feel like I don't know and Star Fox hasn't gotten enough love and I think ever since ah The recent one it just doesn't Star Fox zero. Oh, and yeah It's just like, you know, maybe see maybe the new console has it has something in the cards for Star Fox. I believe it.
01:04:46
Speaker
I'd like to bring it. We're bringing Metroid back and and Pikmin four is real. I think it's possible. Sonic Riders four. Yeah. Do it, Sega. Do it. Motion controls. yeah You have to get the gimmick of a of Nintendo's new ah oval shaped thing that you hold in your hand with it with a thing you put in the ground that looks like ah ah a skateboard. Yeah. Yeah. And ah one that I thought was very funny but would be awesome and they could maybe maybe get people to buy, Donkey Konga.
01:05:34
Speaker
but but back dony coga for let me buy some I mean to be fair modern modern day Donkey Konga is just Taiko no Tatsujin. Oh, that's true. like If you really want to think about it Taiko no Tatsujin host god its footing in the West because of Donkey Konga. Oh my gosh. that's so true And I love both. like i play I have Donkey Konga and I have Jungle Beat. I'm still looking for a copy of Donkey Konga 2. And if I'm really lucky, Donkey Konga 3, which is Japan only. ah Which, again, if they put the don if they somehow decided to put the Donkey Konga games onto an NSO GameCube, that would be the first chance we would see a Donkey Konga 3 getting brought to North America. Think about it.
01:06:29
Speaker
Wow. Although I don't think they ever could because there's licensing reasons. Right. Licensing stuff with tracks because you're like all the small things is a track and docu conga one.
01:06:43
Speaker
But um so um I'm trying to think of it. was So a bomber and I had written down, I think there was one on the GameCube that was like a three. d Yes, I think that one would be kind of cool to bring back.
01:06:56
Speaker
itll be cool um and then what was the other one that i saw um yeah that might be the ones that i got listed on here um yeah i mean there's i mean i'm sure there's oh oh that's what i had uh this is a personal one i don't know if if i had a release on other consoles uh monkey ball adventure oh monkey yeah this is It's one of the worst, apparently, in the franchise, according to big fans. Yeah, no, it absolutely is. I'm a killer. I love having an overworld. Even if it's the tiniest overworld, then you should go into a level. Just an overworld. I love it. The overworld is actually very confusing. As you progress through this, because it's like a bunch of different overworlds, and it gets fucking nutty, to say the least, from what I remember of the game. But yeah.
01:07:57
Speaker
um Anything else you want to add, Digifrog? Or should we move on to our second topic of the day? um i' like I feel like I would like to talk about a little bit about what we'd like to see ah thought um coming in.
01:08:13
Speaker
to the Switch 2, what do we want to see in the future? I want to see... Personally, to personallyley i want he a bit more regulation on their shop, ah so that way we don't have world the games like Headtie World on the Nintendo Switch new game releases. um or head ti because fox If you go to the Nintendo Switch, ah the the eShop store,
01:08:40
Speaker
it's There's like 20 games that come out that are like so bad shovelware that is like really I like come on do a bit more fucking like do diligence Nintendo these are Like I don't want to I get that is only one set, but I don't want to buy cat milk.
01:09:00
Speaker
I feel like, yeah, I feel like that would be easy enough to just add like a future that you could just block it or like a way you could just like, OK, I personally can ah like regulate my own switch. Then I don't have to like look at certain games. That's that's one thing I would like to see and implemented with the the new Nintendo console. How I don't really know, maybe like.
01:09:25
Speaker
Have the new console come with like, I don't know, I want the new controller to be like a controller, like, or like at least, at least like what it if you get it if it's like And it like still has like a Joy-Con type feature where it's like you can still take it, do it do a joy the Joy-Con thing, at least package like a regular control ah and a controller as well with it as not and not just the Joy-Cons. OK, so you get a Switch and you get a Pro controller or something similar to it with the Switch. Yeah, I see what you're saying. Yeah, yeah i would I would love that, especially how expensive of the Pro controllers can be.
01:10:06
Speaker
yeah i would think I would like to see out of it um that's it that's saying if it's like if it goes that way of like ah of like attachable detachable controllers like the switch hat yeah um or it or whatnot so that's something I would like to see and
01:10:26
Speaker
I mean, I feel like like could ah one thing that I would love to see ah is no more frame lags or windmills in the background. so but Yeah. Consistent 60 FPS. Like I'd like I think that's one the one thing that's all I need. Like I'm not a big I don't need 4K. Yeah, say I just need it to be playable and then also like I could play the game. So like this makes me think of t the TTYD remake. It's like only one of the only things I can complain about is like the text i can't spam it i don't know if it's because of a 30 fps like we had to keep it ah sorted and you could only do it when you talk to this person a second time i don't know if it had to do with that or maybe i guess origami king was like that too um or maybe it's something else i don't know just like it
01:11:20
Speaker
And but like the summer of the gameplay can be kind of jank because of the 30 FPS It's not horrible, but it's just a little bit jank So I think if we can get consistent 60 FPS and then also just like okay Kirby's forgotten land is beautiful awesome game but just like there's certain moments where like I kick a can and then the can starts like lagging a little bit it looks so goofy, but like It's just like come on, bro There's got to be a way. I'm hoping for that. For sure. um Backwards compatibility, please. Please keep them to the same cartridges. Yeah, that would be nice. Just keep it playable. If we're goingnna if we're going to keep ah somewhat of a successor, allow us to use use controllers from the previous console onto the new one, so we don't have to keep spending $70. That's going to make a lot of people happy. Maybe make it the controllers not so
01:12:17
Speaker
broken or breakable but so that we have drift all the time please um gosh and then I guess I guess kind of something we glossed over um just I know this is kind of and NSO related but like Pokemon games please I think I think it's time soon even if you do it gradually old games just bring them
01:12:48
Speaker
Nintendo You could I could honestly see them even just bring a whole like package of it Just like its own expansion pack that would be scummy It would be a they would but they would make money off of it You could have like a whole expanded pass just for that just for the Pokemon game. I don't know. I I think they they're gonna the benefit a lot off of that if they just start dropping them or just dropping them little by little because like people would play them they're just the pokemon is just it's a nature animals in a game that people love and like they're all so similar that like obviously you can play one from another and just they're the easy to get into that's i think that's all i got
01:13:36
Speaker
All right. ah Well, with that, then I think it's time for us to move on to our second topic of the day. You are getting ready for another night of adventuring with your friends and you realize, wow, I haven't leveled up and it's been two whole sessions. Well, I have the solution for you. Just ask your game master again. Your GM will understand that after a straight RP session and one encounter with a bunch of CR1 goblins, your level eight character needs to be thrown about. Forget about experience point counting or preset milestones that GM had already established.
01:14:11
Speaker
asking your GM again is the tried and true solution that does not come across as annoying at all. So did you level up? Just ask your GM again. And that's had the style already. We're talking hero shooters because Ninja Frog here, for those who don't know, is a bit of an Overwatch player.
01:14:37
Speaker
Yeah, probably a little too much sometimes, but it's okay. ah but Let's start with this. Where, how is Overwatch 2 at the moment? Where, where is it sitting? What, what, what do you think needs to be done to help the game if it needs help right now? What, what, where's Overwatch 2 right now? Yeah.
01:14:55
Speaker
Um, so I'm going to start with something that I feel like is important to note that I think gets glossed over, uh, is the communication and the transparency as insane compared to what it used to be. So Overwatch, when it started to get into its like doomsday before it was going into Overwatch 2, I think they were still working on the PvE that they promised in the background. And so they're working on that.
01:15:25
Speaker
24 7 and then a year goes by a year goes by and we get echo and we get oh Here's a random update but like it was like a whole year of like nothingness And then okay, we get a bad patch and then it's like dead but now They're hard focused on only the PvP, which is unfortunate because the PvE is kind of getting like pushed away. um But the communication on how the patch notes are, what the patch notes are, what what could be coming next in the next season, next season, the next character.
01:16:02
Speaker
is very strong. And I think that's ah one thing that keeps the things going is even if the streamers aren't doing very well, they there's ah one of the streamers to watch, Spilo. He's like a professional coach for the game. He's literally having a another. I think you just had one like two weeks ago. He's having another conversation with one of the developers. I don't know many other games that does that with their streamers. And that's like an important like back and forth with the the the game developers and like the game company with the community that keeps like, ah it's almost like a connection and that it's really strong. So ah that's one thing that's kept it going for sure. um So it's still got that, it's still got its character, it's still got the, it's still strong, um but I think it's definitely lost its,
01:17:02
Speaker
It's like, what I think you were kind of hinting at it with Concord, where it comes out, oh, it's a new game. Oh, this is sick. And it it's lost that. So like i it overwatched, oh my gosh, it's overwatched two. It's a new game. Yeah, it's definitely lost already. And I think the gameplay loop at some points is kind of lackluster. But I think we're getting enough patches where it's like, OK, things are changing a little bit. um but I think we're getting into a point where the changes aren't changing what the player base wants. And I think we're also just kind of butting heads and struggling to figure out what it is that needs to be done. um And something that has been recently brought up ah is the
01:17:53
Speaker
one of the game devs. I think he may just be a game director. um Aaron Keller, he wrote an entire college essay on why they switched from 66 to 5v5.
01:18:09
Speaker
and what they're going to be trying. And i it was insane. like i just the The transparency on that conversation was great. um And the fact that they're trying it is interesting. And they had a lot of conversation on like, OK, well, these are the main reasons, OK, queue times are longer statistically without with with the 66 model. um And then there are certain gameplay things that weren't the best um with the 66 model. However, we're still willing to try it. And there also were transparent on, OK, we have a new engine.
01:18:51
Speaker
And this kind of adding two more characters adds a lot to the game. So we're going to try and gradually work it in and find a way to test it. um My guess is it's not going to work out. It's going to run into the same borders and barriers that they had before.
01:19:08
Speaker
um but I do think the game, I don't think the game's gonna die um if we continue to just communicate, continue to just throw things at it. Another season, like recently, they did a big change of like the health pools were increased, ah the the hit boxes were increased. that's like ah That was a big thing. um And at this point, I played with it for so long, I don't even notice the hit box too much. like it it I think it just feels better because you hit more shots. And so then it just it just feels it feels better because you're hitting more shots. like yeah Then you you get to do the thing, right? so like
01:19:51
Speaker
Uh, I think we run into roadblocks where it's like, okay, part of this game is rough, but like. ah so is every other live service competitive game at some point um it's not doing as well as like valorant or other games they don't have as many players um but it's still popping um they had to restart their ears ports they're trying to get that back going i'm hoping they can get that going into a smarter um slower pace and not have so much of a big scope of trying to like do
01:20:28
Speaker
ah international immediately. um But yeah, i I think what they're doing is smart and continuing to communicate is their strongest here right now. And they just kind of need to keep that going.
01:20:43
Speaker
And honestly, that's at the moment, that's what they just need to keep doing. Keep communicating and keep moving and keep communicating in with the community. And I think we're just going to keep moving towards a stronger and hopefully upward um Overwatch 2 and hopefully find a ah another footing in esports again. OK.
01:21:06
Speaker
ah Yeah, good. Good work. A little over the place, but yeah, I was trying to like put it all together. Yeah. Before we talk about some other things, Juno is the latest character, correct? Yeah. Coming out soon. Coming out soon. But they were in beta. They were in a test period recently. Yes. Yes. Did you get to try it out or go up against them? What were your thoughts? Oh, my gosh. She is so fun.
01:21:37
Speaker
i think So the the content creator I brought up um previously, Spilo. So he does a lot of, he's a professional coach, but he also does um creation on like, oh, the game design theory and like, okay, he did a whole like project on tanks and tried to like talk to his Discord communicate community and get people to give out ideas and then try to put together like the best like balance changes. And so that's why, that that's the fact.
01:22:04
Speaker
And the fact that that happens and then also the communication he has with the devs. I think just like that's interesting and also like, okay, the communication in game community engagement with that. um But yeah, so anyway.
01:22:19
Speaker
ah to So what he brings up, why I brought up him um a lot is he, so a problem that has happened during Overwatch 2 a little bit was heal creep, where it was just like,
01:22:37
Speaker
the ability to just heal and sustain was like really heavily strong but what he tries to engage and i think this character kind of like um engages more into is mobility creep so like being able having really fun movement in a game is really fun Apex Legends is really fun because I can move fast I can slide down a hill really really super fast I can jump on a zipline like I move it really fast so like something that keeps me moving especially if I die and then i have to come back to the match like keeps me moving is great so she has a e-ability that sends out this speed ring it's like almost like portal that gives you like a speed boost that's great and then she has a dash ability that's like a horizontal like little floating jets i guess and it keeps her moving pretty quick um she has like a healing gun that's like on a shooter
01:23:35
Speaker
that shoots, you you shoot enemies that does damage, you shoot teammates that does healing. um um think I'm forgetting what the other, but there's another ability. um What is it? Juno abilities. There's one more, but she is great. She's very fun. I think that their focus on um more mobility is a great idea.
01:24:02
Speaker
um And I'm excited to keep bring i bring her in and player um another friend ah kind of
01:24:14
Speaker
I think he might have been a podcast at Seahawks. um He brought up kind of comparing her to like a re-weir work of Mercy. And I thought that was kind of interesting because like, okay, if you took Mercy and made her into a shooting character, I could see this being her because she she also floats. So if you hold space bar, you can float.
01:24:39
Speaker
and then she has a gun, and then she has a little like a bunch of like tactical things that help you do things like like her beam would do. So it was just like interesting, like, okay, maybe the it is kind of what that is. um And then her ultimate is like a sending a gigantic laser from the sky. I think it like it gives you like um some buffs. I don't think it does damage, but it gives you some buffs. um But yeah, she is I think she's going to be a fun character. I don't know. she's gonna be ah I think she's in a good spot just like Venture um when they come out that it's like they're in a good spot balance-wise. And I think they can adjust them a little bit, and they'll be fun to play, not broken, um and fit just right in.
01:25:32
Speaker
But yeah, no, I'm pumped for Juno to come out. Nice, nice. OK, well, moving on to the other part of these hero shooters. Are there too many of them?
01:25:47
Speaker
Because we there is there's a bunch of them coming out. Well, one just came out. Marvel's brand new hero shooter came out. ah Marvel Rivals? Yeah, Marvel Rivals. And Concord on the horizon. What are your thoughts? Yeah. so I mean, even even ah technically, you could account for a gigantic ah Vanguard edition. just They tried to revive ah

Game Analysis and Insights

01:26:18
Speaker
gigantic. I just looked into it a little bit because I loved it when it first came out seven years ago.
01:26:25
Speaker
But it was really I thought it was really fun, but it also is has much of like animal characters and I love nature so like animal characters are really fun, but it just didn't land and I don't think it's landing again like the the charts of steam players. I think there's like 23 right now So that I think it's already died and then once it already came out um It's but watch one video on it. It's partly because like okay, they're charging $20 for it. And they got plenty of games on the market that are just like, okay, well, they're already free. So like, why would I pay for it? um But yeah, too many, I think i think maybe,
01:27:15
Speaker
how many do we have that are good making a difference? Yeah, so like, I think that's the problem. And we're just trying to throw them out. Like I was just watching, apparently Valve's making one called Deadlock, which is supposed to be more like if you took a third-person shooter and mashed it up with um dota or league of legends so the area it's like the map is kind of like in lanes a little bit and then you have a bunch of the towers and then like there's a bunch of adc's that come in just like are that are fighting things and helping you but you're also playing a third person shooter
01:27:58
Speaker
but then what i watched and kind of explained by someone it just seems like it's too much and what you get comparatively to league or dota is like okay you're top down and you have so much you can move you're moving slower you could look around the map you can see what's going on around you instead of okay i'm third person shooter i gotta be focused on shooting and i'm gonna move and i also gotta be focused on uh which tower to go to and look at the map and then so it's like there's so much going on it doesn't always work and i don't think i think i agree with the guy i don't think it's going to land because of the the design the game and fundamentally is too much and i don't think it's going to land and so like i think there's
01:28:46
Speaker
I think it's important to have ah competition and so then I think something like Concord or Marvel's Rivals coming out I think is good. ah To have something there to compete so then it gives them a reason to strengthen what they have to keep their player base strong so that the game doesn't die.
01:29:07
Speaker
um but yeah i think the problem is like don't just drop it and assume it's gonna land like i like i've really went gigantic to land that one might be similar to deadlock where it's like it may just be too much Um, I feel like heroes just did poor did poor marketing, but yeah, I'm not sure hero shooters right now are going through what battle royales kind of went through where it's like Oh, what's popular right now? Hero shooters need to be popular right now. Perfect. Make it a hero shooter. And there's just we're kind of getting sick of it a little bit. Yeah, I think. Yeah, don't we don't need five million of them. But if you're going to make one,
01:29:53
Speaker
finish it and make it make it distinct from the other ones. It needs to have a distinct design, but it also needs to have smart to it and fun.
01:30:06
Speaker
um Yeah, but I think this leads in the nicely into just talking and more deeply about especially um talking about Marvel's rivals. I played a bit of it. I don't think I'm personally going to go back to it. However,
01:30:24
Speaker
I think it's going to stand alone as its own game and continue to play. Because one, it's got Marvel's characters. So you get to play Marvel's characters, Spider-Man, Thor, Hulk.
01:30:39
Speaker
ah Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, like a bunch of like different characters that you just get to play that you don't normally just get to like, oh, I'm just gonna i'm just going to switch characters and go play Scarlet Witch, or I'm going to go play Venom. I'm going to go like, come on. like You could just jump in and play a different character. I'm going to go play Groot. Like, come on. So i think that's I think that's awesome. And I think that's one of the big things that this one has, is it's going to cater to someone who is more casual.
01:31:06
Speaker
And I think that's an important note that I think um that distinguishes it is it has that ah that interest. And I think if they go hard into the casual base, I think they'll find a stronger footing. Not saying they can't do competitive. They can do competitive. I don't think they will necessarily get much footing esports. They might. um But i don't i'd I think I'd like to see them just kind of focus on just making it great in the casual space because I think that's the more the people that are going to play it. It's just more people that are going to be like, oh, well, I want to play a shooter game. Oh, but I also want to play Marvel's characters. OK, free to play. Let's play this. But like that, that's it. That's how I'm seeing it. And I think that's smart.
01:31:56
Speaker
um Yeah, I don't just give you any space to say anything. I don't know if you know, I mean, fuck you know you're like, I've I think I've maybe played I played the tutorials of some characters in Overwatch 1 at a friend's place once. That's it. That's my experience with hero shooters. That's totally fair. i have yeah They never have appealed to me. They yeah never have. But with the Marvel one kind of doing all right,
01:32:29
Speaker
It makes you wonder, well, what what what if you can see like a franchise get get a hero shooter game, what would you hope that franchise is? Oh, gosh, like what's your dream hero shooter game like franchise wise?
01:32:49
Speaker
Um, I mean, like some of these like are like ones that have already like kind of like landed, but the like gigantic is definitely one that it's like, okay, well, it's just kind of landed and died. And, um, I don't, wow. That's kind of, I feel like one that would be interesting is something along the lines of like,
01:33:15
Speaker
Oh, gosh, I don't know. Well, I was going to say like characters from like multiverses or something, but I don't think that would work. I don't think maybe I don't think I don't know how much how well that would work because I don't know like that. OK, you're just throwing them guns or giving them like abilities that like cater to a shooter. I don't know how that would work out.
01:33:37
Speaker
Yeah, I don't i don't know. i think i think I think Overwatch is where I land often because like that's where I like it, is where I have characters that have a lot to them. they're they're They put a lot into the character, even though there's just voice lines and there's not a story to them um outside of like some YouTube videos.
01:33:57
Speaker
um I can play them and know that there's a lot of energy and passion put into each character. And that's what I love. And then there's also the interesting different abilities that are like, OK, dude, I would love to be able to just skate on the side of a wall with my shoes. That's awesome. I want to be able to fly the sky. I want to be able to mech. I like all these random things.
01:34:29
Speaker
or awesome. um And I think that's an ability to switch characters. I love playing different characters. If I'm playing Smash Brothers, I wanna, I play random all the time, because I just wanna play different characters. And that's one of the big things I love about this game, that Valorant doesn't have. I do think locking characters makes it easier to balance, um but it is very,
01:34:56
Speaker
great to me to have the ability to switch characters and I think it's interesting. um However, that's where you get into like counter picking and sometimes I can be uninteresting.
01:35:08
Speaker
um Um, so, uh, so yeah, Marvel Rivals, I think is going to land, uh, as a casual base and we'll keep going. I think if they just keep adding more characters, they already started with tons of them and they keep adding more characters. They've just added a short character. Like it looks like you so much fun.
01:35:29
Speaker
Um, you have to just keep adding wacky characters and then just keep changing it and keep it going. I think it's going to continue to play well. Um, free play. Yeah, it's Marvel. Come on. And then Concord, I looked into it some, I didn't get to play the beta.
01:35:47
Speaker
I think it looks fine. I think it's 40 bucks. Yeah, that's I think that's roughly what they said it was going to be. yeah So like they did say that's going to be one of those games where it's like once you buy it, you own it. We're not going to worry about like, yeah, micro like a lot of like microtransaction stuff, which I think that's good at least, but.
01:36:15
Speaker
It looks like they put a lot of energy into it. like There's a lot of characters that are really interesting. um There's a guy that has like a little like vacuum cleaner. um it runs a little so like your Your movement is a lot slower than something like Overwatch or Marvel Rivals. ah But it looks like the gunplay looks like fun and satisfying.
01:36:41
Speaker
ah I think it'll do OK. The charge to get into playing probably will be a barrier. But I think it'll get enough interest, especially if PlayStation Plus is making it free. I'm sure it'll get enough interest that people will play it. um But I don't think it's going to like explode. But it's different enough where it's like, OK, I think it can do something.
01:37:08
Speaker
um at least at least to me from looking at it and watching it I don't like paladins because the gameplay just the shooting feels horrible to me I don't feel like I'm actually shooting an enemy I feel like I'm shooting a brick wall and then eventually they die I don't know what it is, if it's the sounds, if it's the animations, I don't know what it is. But something when I'm playing Overwatch, forout paladin for just to compare something, like I don't feel like I'm doing that. I don't feel like I'm shooting something. But then when I was watching Concord, I feel like theyre they look like they're shooting something. And that that feeling is important in a shooter game.
01:37:45
Speaker
um but Yeah, that was that was the main stuff I had to bring up. Just like, we're we're in kind of like a loop of so many of them. um I mean, even Valorant, I was like, okay, I didn't even think about it earlier, but like, okay, Valorant technically is a hero shooter. You have different characters that have different abilities. And then you have a foundational distinct game, which is basically just CS. It's like CS with abilities. So like,
01:38:17
Speaker
the same, like, okay, go plant the bomb and you can buy guns between rounds and pick up enemy's guns. It's the same idea. So, like, yeah, we have, we have, there's even one that I just found earlier, Bloodloop, like, we have too many, too many. Just, just make, make sure if you're making one that it's got some, we've got some love into it.

Speaker
um That all coming around to try and answer that question again. What type of viewership would you like to see from franchise?
01:38:57
Speaker
You know, I don't know if I have one. i don't I don't think I do. And I think that's a good thing. We need to... I think I'm tired of seeing battle royales. And now we're about to get tired of seeing hero shooters. Maybe we just need to like, take a break. Let's find something else to do.
01:39:18
Speaker
Yeah, I think we do need that break. I think it's just what let Overwatch do its thing for a while and when it really gets bad, then we'll call for him again. yeah I think that's what we need. I think that's what we need. Well, ah is there anything else you want to add, Ninja Frog, or shall we head into the bonus level? and No, so let's get out of here.
01:39:48
Speaker
Alright, well with that folks, it's time for us to start closing things out and head on into the bonus level. Crazy lists, great deals, and recap in gaming history. It's all here in the bonus level.

01:43:27
Speaker
Yeah, um I don't think I have any like specific ones that are already set to come out 3D. I want to see a 3D Donkey Kong game. Kirby got it. Let's let's let's get it. Let's get it happening. I want to. We already kind of touched on it. Yoshi game, please.
01:43:46
Speaker
ah 3D Mario, obviously. We definitely need a new 3D Mario. um I have never gotten to play a zero ever. outside of playing the f0.99 I had a blast playing that and I would love to see a new one I think there's been a lot of indie games that I have kind of touched similar racing and I think a lot of people would be into it and I think it would land. um And then I think this is probably going to happen, um but I would like to see something new and different and please do not remake the same game again and keep using it. Please make a new Mario Kart.
01:44:28
Speaker
yeah i do but my god yeah yeah i was you there ah moving on to head to head two games enter one game leaves uh i put mario rpg remake versus mario thousand year door re
01:44:45
Speaker
o This is hard. um I definitely need to give Mario RPG another another chance. I never finished it. I played SNES on the SNES Classic, played through most of it, got stuck on a boss because I suck, and then stopped playing. I haven't gotten back to it. so But my my nostalgia and my love, my first game ever that I owned, Mario Thousand Year Door remake, for sure. Oh, right? yeah Alright, we know about the Tony's game poll. This is a poll that we have every season. This season's poll. If Kingdom Hearts 4 was to add a Disney or Pixar world ah to its game, that hasn't been added before. What Disney world would you add?
01:45:34
Speaker
Wow, okay. So I have not played the game. So I tried my best to find a list of game movies that aren't in there yet to find something that would be worth putting in there. So I think I saw, where was it? oh What is it what is it where it? Where did it go? I saw it. um i i Where did it go? Where did it go? where to go uh treasure planet i don't know if it's been been there it has not treasure planet is a very solid i would love i think that would be my yeah that would be my initial pick because i think treasure planet is underrated and it got shadowed by i'm pretty sure harry potter um when it was coming out and the movie is great and i think it should give some love
01:46:24
Speaker
Absolutely. No, I'm with you there. It's a fantastic movie. I mean, it's if you know this the story of Treasure Island um It's that but you know space with ah killer soundtrack and it's just great. It's a great movie
