Welcome to Tony's Game Lounge, a bi-weekly podcast that covers everything in the world of video games, TCG, tabletop, and more. Here's your host, Tony 14. Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another brand new episode of Tony's Game Lounge. I am your host, as always, Tony 14. And joining us this week...
00:00:32
Speaker
Twitch streamer extraordinaire who has played the likes of Fursona, Ace Attorney, and a bunch of other visual novels. I think... I'm pretty sure you've played the... Have you played the Dagger Rapa games actually? I have not known. We are joined by Logan Robo. Logan, hello.
00:00:48
Speaker
I, and yes, I have played the Danganronpa games. I was actually one of the first game series that really kind of jump-started my my community on Twitch. So,

Favorite Games and Characters

00:00:56
Speaker
so yeah. Nice. same Same here, oddly enough, which is kind of funny.
00:01:03
Speaker
Well, welcome, Logan. Welcome to the podcast, finally. We've been trying to get get you on for a little while now, and we've if everything finally synced up. so Yeah, I'm excited to be here. Thanks for having me. Hey, thank you very much. And since you're brand new,
00:01:17
Speaker
That means we get to start with the loading screen, which is where you get to give us your favorite video game, ah video game character, and video game ah soundtrack.
00:01:28
Speaker
All right. Well, I, I, my favorite game and the OST are both from the same game. So I, I love, her I love retro games. And my favorite game of all time is a retro game is final fantasy six.
00:01:40
Speaker
Oh, nice. I love that game. I love the soundtrack. It is phenomenal. Um, one of the few, I guess not few, i don't know if it's few or not, but, uh, one of those JRPGs that even has like an opera scene in it.
00:01:52
Speaker
So, I don't want to pick a character from that for my favorite character because then it'd be boring if all three of them are the same game. So I'll just say I'll just say Luigi from Super Mario Brothers as my favorite character.
00:02:06
Speaker
Give that guy some love. Hey, let's go. We we do. Everybody needs a little Luigi love in their life. That's for sure. uh final fantasy i still have yet to play final fantasy 6 i need to play it it's on my list of games to play along with a bunch of other final fantasy games um do you like keep up with the final fantasy series or is it really just the retro ones that you've uh played so far I mean, somewhat. i I haven't played Final Fantasy XVI yet, and i actually never quite finished Final Fantasy XV.
00:02:41
Speaker
But, i mean, i i kind of I keep up with them. It's the type of thing. Anytime you have a series like that that's more of an anthology where every installment is just kind of like... Completely new characters, new setting. And yeah, it's not as like required to really keep up with everything. but And of course, the Final Fantasy VII remakes that have been coming out are a lot of fun. So you see yeah, I don't think I'm ah as into Final Fantasy as I used to be when I was a kid.
00:03:06
Speaker
But but i do I do love the series. It's got a soft spot in my heart. And that is just, as I said, always been my... but Well, not always. Ever since I played it, had spit it's been my favorite game.
00:03:17
Speaker
Nice. i do Are you collecting any of the Magic the Gathering Final Fantasy cards that they've just released at all? I am not, but I've been tempted. ah The problem is I don't really play Magic.
00:03:29
Speaker
yeah my My older brother does. He is kind of obsessed with Magic. um But now they're doing these crossovers. My number one nerdy thing is I collect Transformers action figures, and they even did like a Transformers collab a couple years ago. I did get some of those cards.
00:03:44
Speaker
Oh, nice. But I haven't played Magic in in ages. i I hate to say it too. I'm like worried to get into it because like I don't want to ah besmirch the honor of any Magic the Gathering players out there.
00:03:59
Speaker
But I remember like one time, this is several years ago, my older brother, was he went to a Magic the Gathering tournament. And for some reason, his car was unavailable. i can't remember if was in the shop or what was going on.
00:04:09
Speaker
I had to go and pick him up from it.

Game Discussions and Opinions

00:04:12
Speaker
And ah it was at local university in the union building and parked my car, went inside there. And as soon as I got into the room where the tournament was happening, it was like hitting a brick wall of body odor.
00:04:23
Speaker
have never experienced anything like that before. and And, and I'm not saying that everyone who plays it out there is like that, but it was fantastic, formative experience in my life in to magic. So I, yeah but I mean, i still have a deck yeah somewhere in the other room, but no, I've been tempted with some of the Final Fantasy stuff, but it's it's also one of those things that's just an extra expense. Oh yeah. No, I,
00:04:50
Speaker
I bought one of the commander decks. I got lucky. mike One of my GameStops, I go in, I'm like hey, do you have any Final Fantasy cards that like aren't on like pre-order like that you're that you're able to sell me right now?
00:05:01
Speaker
They had a single pack. can't remember what the second thing was. And then they had the Y'shtola commander deck. And I'm like, I'll take the commander deck. As a guy who has over 2000 hours in Final Fantasy 14, and that's the deck with all the 14 characters, I'm going to take that.
00:05:20
Speaker
So I bought that and I've been debating of whether or not I want to get a box of like 30 packs to just open on stream or not. like And it's just like, do I want to really spend the 300 plus Canadian dollars that that's going to cost?
00:05:36
Speaker
i I just don't know. It'd be for the content. for the For the content. the content. I mean, it would be good content. ah But yeah, no, it's ah it's really cool. It's getting me back into magic a little bit.
00:05:50
Speaker
um But um ah we'll we'll see how how long it holds my attention until like the next shiny thing comes out. because that's how I am. You get into one thing and then something new and shiny appears. I'm like, ooh, and you forget about the old thing first. And then you just got to consume new product.
00:06:06
Speaker
Exactly. Exactly. ah Okay. Moving away from the loading screen, we're now going to head on into hot takes. yeah Logan, you're going to give us your hottest video game take that you have.
00:06:21
Speaker
Okay, i was thinking about this just now because we were talking about retro video games. And as I said, I love retro games. um And we'll tie this in, I guess, to the Final Fantasy series, but also the Legend of Zelda franchise.
00:06:35
Speaker
Because I was thinking about, if you talk to any fan and you ask, like, what is the greatest Legend of Zelda game? What is the greatest Final Fantasy game? You're always going to hear Ocarina of Time. You're always going to Final Fantasy VII.
00:06:47
Speaker
I feel like those games, I love those games, I adore those games, but I feel like they're a tiny bit overrated in the sense that they're just like the first 3D games of those series.
00:06:59
Speaker
Like everything up to that point for both those game series were all like 2D sprite stuff from like, you know, 8-bit, 16-bit, whatever. And I feel like they kind of get elevated just because that they were the first games after that transition. Yeah.
00:07:12
Speaker
I love those games. Don't get me wrong. But as i said, my favorite Final Fantasy game is 6. I think if you play retro games, Legend of Zelda Link to the Past, which you know got its sequel years and years and years later on the 3DS with Link Between Worlds, are both phenomenal games that unfortunately get a little bit overshadowed by being the game right before they went to 3D. So I guess that's my hot take, that these that those two beloved, beloved games are a little bit...
00:07:40
Speaker
overrated just because they're because they they were the first 3d ones still love them but yeah if you if you want to really look at it a link between worlds even got overshadowed a bit when because yeah wasn't that the zelda game right before breath of the wild as well was it i i'd have to go back and take a look at the time i have to double check i freaking love breath of the wild though man oh that that scratched an itch in my brain that well because i sorry to get off topic here but with the go Go for it. Go for it.
00:08:11
Speaker
I love the Zelda games, but I feel like before Breath of the Wild, and I'm sure this is like a common belief. I can't possibly be like the first person who's ever thought this. But so many of the Zelda games leading into that became so linear. Like you look at all the ones in the DS, you look at Skyward Sword. So much of was you're dropped into this area. You can't go and do anything except this one thing. And then when you do that, a smaller new area unlocks. Then you go there. Then another one unlocks.
00:08:35
Speaker
I love the exploration of you're just dumped into the world, go wherever you want. If you die when you get there, you're too weak and you should come back later. It's just the freedom to be able to to wander. around And it's, of course, just the nature of open world games. But my gosh, I loved Breath of the Wild when that came out.
00:08:53
Speaker
100%ed Breath of the Wild, like all the Korok seeds and everything. I could never do that. not Not even for a golden piece of poop. I did it. I got the golden piece of poop. ah You know what? It was a good time.
00:09:05
Speaker
I think... yeah I'm going to say this. I think if the Zelda notes... thing that's now part of the Switch 2 versions of the game where if you have the Nintendo Switch app, you can open up Zelda Notes and it gives you a whole interactive map through your mobile phone instead of having to go on to online and pay for like use of an interactive map through like some of the sites that are there which is what I did um for Breath of the Wild back in the day ah I think if the Zelda Notes app was back out there I think I would have had so much more enjoyability in collecting all the Korok scenes
00:09:43
Speaker
Because it's like it gives you like a Google map type navigation on getting to like some of the Korok scenes. It's like, okay, i want to go get this one. And it'll just start Google map routing you. I'm like, oh that's kind of neat. That's kind of a fun way to do it.
00:09:58
Speaker
Yeah, I think the reason why I didn't do the Korok Seeds is I never want any aspect of a game I'm playing, especially one that I love, like Breath of the Wild, to become a chore. Like there's an obligation, like I got to do this, but I'm not enjoying it.
00:10:10
Speaker
So I i rarely 100% games. A few of them I Like I remember years ago ah gathering every freaking Riddler trophy in Arkham City, and and that took forever, but ah probably not nearly as long as the Korok Seeds. I think there's like a ton more those.
00:10:26
Speaker
But it was that was fun, I guess, but also frustrating. And so I'm just kind of at the point where if there's a part of the game that I don't enjoy doing and it's optional, I just don't need to do that part. of You know what? That's fair.
00:10:38
Speaker
That's fair. Like you can YouTube if there's any bonus stuff ah ah after it anyways nowadays. ah yeah. So it's it's not like we we have to do it. i I myself am very much a completionist. um I just got my 105th platinum trophy.
00:10:56
Speaker
Holy cow. I have not gotten my first platinum trophy yet. yeah Yeah, no, I've, I, it's ah a bit of a i don't know if I would say curse.
00:11:07
Speaker
ah I think it's just the way my brain is wired. I like seeing big number go up and the bar go further. It's just kind of how I am.
00:11:18
Speaker
And it's like it's like, I like it when it's done specific ways. Like, I'm going to say this. like A hot take for me, a new a newer hot take, is that Mario Kart World's open world system ah would be better if it had a checklist for everything you've collected.
00:11:35
Speaker
They don't have a checklist system, and I'm very mad about that because it's like, how am I supposed to know how many more of these I need to collect and what regions they're in? Like, give us that ability to check that. Please, Nintendo.
00:11:49
Speaker
So I take it that means you've already got a Switch 2? Yeah, I did. I pre-ordered a Switch 2. I got it... It's 7 p.m. on day one, so I didn't get to play it until, like, the second day.
00:12:02
Speaker
um But i've been you know what? It's good. um The Nintendo Switch Welcome Tour game is not worth $15 $10, which... or ten bucks well I'm a little surprised that they charged money for that, to be totally honest. That feels like the type of thing Nintendo would just toss in for free. but Yeah, honestly, I think what they should have done is if do the, hey, if you have and NSO, which a lot of people do, we'll give it to you for free. Otherwise, the game is like, they should but you probably put it at like five bucks. It's like, look, I think if you're very much a
00:12:35
Speaker
tech savvy person who really likes to know how everything in like a console works and you don't want to just tear apart your console to see how it all works then go play the game because I think that's a game that's designed specifically specifically for that kind of person Otherwise, it's just a $15 game where you go on a scavenger hunt to find every but ah find every unique detail about each piece of the ah hardware and play a couple of mini games along the way that are just okay.
00:13:13
Speaker
I guess they're just really, really proud of themselves and eager to show off all their fancy bells and whistles. Yeah. Yeah, they are. i think that is also the case. But ah other than that, the only game on it is Mario Kart World.
00:13:26
Speaker
um Because, I mean, unless you haven't played any of the other games that they did put at launch that are all the deluxe versions of certain games, like Yakuza 0 Director's Cut, if haven't played the Yakuza games, that is a great starting point.
00:13:40
Speaker
And it's a shame that it's only on the Switch 2 right now, because I think they should put the Director's Cut on everything else. Because... I know that some people are, you know, not a fan of having the game entirely in Japanese with the voicing, even though that is the definitive way to play the Yakuza games, um in my opinion, because I'm a huge Yakuza fan. I have, I do like nearly everything I can in those games, but I'm getting off track. yeah've I've only played a little bit of Yakuza 0. I streamed some of it, but the problem is is that I don't know if you've played the Switch port of it, but um it's hard to play. are Not that I say Switch. I meant to say Steam. I meant to say Steam. Oh, really?
00:14:21
Speaker
The Steam port is yeah sorry so but it ah is is messed up because... um you know With the combat, it's the type of game, I don't know, maybe other people disagree. I feel like you want to play with controller. In fact, I think it even has a screen that pops up at the beginning. This game is best played with controller.

Nintendo's Donkey Kong Bonanza

00:14:35
Speaker
yeah um It doesn't work with any controller on Steam. like The button mapping is just all screwed up. Nothing is properly functional. I found somebody in in i think was like the Steam Workshop had done some...
00:14:47
Speaker
button remapping mod or something like that that that kind of makes it work ish but it is just a functional struggle to get anything done in it which is a shame because it's a good game but wow it's hard to play on steam i am excited to play the uh what's what's the one with majima the the the yakuza pirate in hawaii or something yeah uh yeah pirate yakuza in hawaii yes that looks like fun from what from what i played in in ah zero majima was definitely my favorite of the two protagonists in there yeah it's also like going from zero to pirate yakuza it go the the game has gone through essentially two massive engine game engine changes um and it's like a completely different like well what was like similar with the the how the combat is it you'll notice so many different things with the dragon engine
00:15:40
Speaker
Well, I'm looking forward to eventually getting that is one of those games. These days on Steam, I have to wait until things go on sale. I can't justify buying just about anything at full price. And we're a few days away from the summer sale. So we're actually when as we're recording this tomorrow is kicks off the Steam summer sale. o So ah get your wallets ready, gamers, because all all those games that you've been holding out on buying ah shit but They might be on sale. Most likely will be on sale tomorrow.
00:16:13
Speaker
So look forward to that. All right. I think it's time we head into our headline of the week. And we were speaking of Nintendo a little earlier and we're talking more Nintendo as they had their Donkey Kong Bonanza Direct.
00:16:27
Speaker
We are about little less than a month away from the, well, actually, we're about a month away from the game releasing. And they were like, hey, we're going to just tell you everything that you need to know about this game. And I'm like, hell yeah, I am here for it.
00:16:41
Speaker
And they started off with a big bomb drop. with that little rock, Odd Rock, that we saw in the first trailer for Bonanza back when the Switch 2 was getting announced and all of that.
00:16:52
Speaker
Well, turns out Odd Rock is actually a young Pauline, which is crazy, but it's super cool to see that, which means the soundtrack and also the soundtrack with the music they played and they all so all the vocal tracks we're getting from Pauline's voice actor. This game's soundtrack is going to be fantastic.
00:17:11
Speaker
Just going to say that right now. ah Where this game will take place, it's taking place on the Ingot Isle, where Donkey Kong and Pauline's goal is to reach the planet core. Donkey Kong, simple-minded, he just wants the bananas.
00:17:25
Speaker
That's what he always wants. ah But Pauline actually has a wish. And if you get to the planet core, you can make a wish, essentially, and it should come true. So that's what the goal of the game is.
00:17:37
Speaker
The world fully destructible. You can destroy nearly everything in this game, which is absolutely bananas.
00:17:48
Speaker
I see what you did there.
00:17:52
Speaker
As for DK's moveset, he can punch, climb, dive punch, hand slap. He's got sonar. He can tear off chunks of land and from that he can swing it, surf on it, get a double jump by throwing it down when he's in the air.
00:18:06
Speaker
Throw them. ah Pauline can make music to help guide you to your next objective. You can roll and so much more that you can unlock through a perk system as well.
00:18:18
Speaker
um Other characters that they did show off, you got Cranky Kong and Rambi who are going to be, they're kind of exploring the world, sort of like how Peach and Cappy's sister were at the end of Mario Odyssey, where you could just find them in the world and get like moons in the original Odyssey.
00:18:35
Speaker
It looks like Cranky and Rambi are kind of a similar thing, but they're going to doing it throughout the duration of the game. ah You got the elders who are ones who bless DK with new powers.
00:18:46
Speaker
And also Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong. While they weren't explicitly shown in the trailer, there is a section where you see Donkey Kong racing them on Rhinoceros back.
00:18:58
Speaker
ah So we got it. So it is the return of Diddy Kong racing. ah Let's go. yeah um The big thing that they showed off is Bonanza mode.
00:19:09
Speaker
and They showed off three modes for it right now. Don't know there are going be more. You got Kong Bonanza, which turns ZK into this giant, bigger, beefier version of a gorilla, which gives him the ability to super smash.
00:19:22
Speaker
A Zebra Bonanza, which gives him super speed. And an Ostrich Bonanza, which gives him the form to flight. And you basically build up your what is called banana to transform and you can swap between the forums when you are in Bonanza mode.
00:19:38
Speaker
We also got a first look at the villains the void company which is ah made up of grumpy Kong poppy Kong and void Kong and their goals also just reach the planet core and.
00:19:51
Speaker
Their goals, we don't actually know yet, um but we'll find out soon. um Your main collectible in this game are Banandium gems, which you can find throughout the world.
00:20:02
Speaker
You'll get through natural progression, and there's also ancient ruin challenges found across the world where you can collect them. And these can include side scroller levels, mine cart levels, just some 3D arena brawlers, and just like little side levels, sort of like we had in Mario, all like all the other main Mario 3D games, essentially.
00:20:25
Speaker
uh other collectibles include benandium chips which you can exchange for benandium gems gold which is your main currency that you exchange for items and fossils which you can find to get various outfits which outfits in the game do reward passive abilities like if you turn doggy kong blue he can swim faster just like in real life just like Yes, if you if you spray paint a gorilla blue, it will swim faster. Dude, Blue Man Group are incredible swimmers.
00:20:56
Speaker
I've never seen them in water, so I can't. I don't know if I should be the one to. Good luck seeing them. They go so fast. It's like it's like the spectators in Dragon Ball Z trying to keep track of people. They just zip around. ah That's great.
00:21:10
Speaker
and You can also find treasure chests and inside of those are maps to help you find ah more collectibles. And unlike Mario Kart World, there is a list of all the collectibles you can find in each of the various areas in the game, which...
00:21:24
Speaker
makes a Tony who will 100% this game ah very happy. um You can also find music discs, which are found when defeating you defeat certain enemies. ah The teleports and your world traversal are the elevators, which...
00:21:41
Speaker
take you world to world and teleporting, which can take you from objective to objective from things you found across each area because a giant eel will eat you and ah take you up, down, and all around.
00:21:54
Speaker
um There's a photo mode because I think every game nowadays gets a photo mode for all the YouTuber thumbnails that they're going to make. um There's co-op mode where a second player can control Pauline and shoot vocal projectile blasts to all the enemies around.
00:22:10
Speaker
You can game share the game with co-op to either a switch or a switch to. and there's some difficulty options having a normal mode and assist mode.
00:22:21
Speaker
And there might be a hard mode. If you beat the game a first time, don't know yet though. Um, There's also a side mode called dky Artist, where using the mouse controller, you can carve three d models.
00:22:35
Speaker
And sort of like how you could stretch Mario's face in Mario 64, you could just craft stuff with clay. ah So if you wanted to make Mario for Mario 64, you absolutely could.
00:22:48
Speaker
ah which is really kind of cool. And there are some new amiibo coming out. The new Donkey Kong and Pauline amiibo, which you can pre-order right now.
00:22:58
Speaker
ah By tapping that in the game, you unlock Pauline's Diva Dress, which gives enemies a higher chance to drop music discs. um As for other amiibos, any Donkey Kong related amiibos will drop golden Kong tiles that you can then use to smash and crash enemies.
00:23:18
Speaker
And all the other amiibos will add a sphere of a certain element that you can throw um in the game to do stuff. The game is out July seventeenth only on the Switch 2, and the Donkey Kong and Pauly and Amiibo drops the same day.
00:23:35
Speaker
And yeah, the the game looks cool. This is Of all the games they've showed off for the Switch 2 so far, because i don't have a Switch 2 yet, I am going to need to save up money before I can get a Switch 2. But that is the one... Like, this is the one that I think I'm probably most looking forward to. It looks like a lot of fun.
00:23:50
Speaker
Yeah, no, this game is... this This is looking like the game that should have launched with alongside Mario Kart. Realistically, I think if we got this like right now, oh, we'd be people would be praising this so much right now. I think this game looks incredible from Nintendo. It's got that. This has the Nintendo quality standard that we get out of like all of their platformers because Nintendo knows how to make a good platformer.
00:24:19
Speaker
Now, can we we talk a little bit about how the sidekick is now confirmed as a young version of Pauline? Yeah, that's crazy. that Because what is your opinion on Nintendo games attempting to have a cohesive timeline?
00:24:35
Speaker
but I think Nintendo and timelines, the only time they work is with Metroid. I think that's the only franchise that they've successfully gotten a good timeline with.
00:24:47
Speaker
Okay, because, yeah, I'm going to be honest. When I play Nintendo games, I don't mind if the timeline is all screwy. um I remember, like, as a kid playing Zelda games, I didn't realize that that they... I mean, to be fair, Nintendo's Zelda timeline didn't come out until, like, Breath of the Wild came out.
00:25:04
Speaker
Was it that late? Yeah. reason, I thought it was earlier than that. Maybe was just, like, fans speculating before... was fans speculating for a long time, and then Nintendo came out officially with a timeline, like... and And like timeline stuff didn't really matter until Skyward Sword released, I think.
00:25:19
Speaker
Mm hmm. Because, what you know, it's like the start of everything. Right. Well, and so with Paulie, because I, of course, I've heard people talk before about how that, you know, modern day Donkey Kong. What I used to hear was a modern day. Donkey Kong is actually Donkey Kong Jr. because Cranky Kong the original Donkey Kong. but I you hear people say that, oh, no, modern-day Donkey Kong is actually Cranky Kong's grandson, and Donkey Kong Jr. is his dad. The son of Cranky Kong is off there somewhere else. We haven't seen him for a while since, like, the original Super Mario Kart on the Super Nasters. I get confused. I don't know any of that stuff. I'm sure this is messing it up with the fact that Pauline's a kid, but Cranky Kong is there, and so, like, how this all goes into anything.
00:25:56
Speaker
But I kind of don't care. I try to ignore it. Yeah, no, like... ah with With this, for me, it's like, oh, this is just for me. and When I see this, a young poly, I'm like, oh, OK, this game takes place before Mario Odyssey.
00:26:09
Speaker
Yeah, that's fine. That is totally fine. I i just I kind of try to ignore all that. Just like, yeah, Yoshi has baby Mario. That's fine. And Yoshi's Island or whatever this I yeah I get so confused at some of the attempts to reconcile things, though.
00:26:24
Speaker
Like, I remember hearing somebody say that Dr. Mario is a different character than Mario. I thought Mario was just a, just took on a doctor profession. That's what I thought that every now and then, a you know, plumber wants to put on a lab coat. Great. You're a doctor. Shove pills down someone's throat.
00:26:39
Speaker
And i so I don't know if it's true, but I, i in fact, I was just thinking about this So while you're talking, I Googled it and I don't know if this is true or not, but like one of the first results after you ignore like Google's AI, which is useless is ah some Reddit post claiming that ah he's a different character. He's an older brother of both Mario and Luigi. And whose whose name is,
00:26:59
Speaker
Cornelius or something like that Cornelius Mario which as much as I love the game Cornelius it doesn't strike me as Italian um just saying but so i don't know what the heck is going on there i I try to ignore timeline stuff so yeah it's just like this is yeah Pauline's a kid whatever this maybe it's a different universe I don't fun game play fun game Maybe this is the answer of why Dr. Mario has always been a separate character in Super Smash Brothers.
00:27:30
Speaker
Well, except in Super Smash Brothers, I feel like I can't take anything in there as as canon because you could also pick four Dr. Marios fighting against each other. You don't say, well, there's four of them. there is There's Cornelius, for all there's Green Beanius, Broccolius, and Carrotius.
00:27:49
Speaker
Those are all costumes. I think it's like the fighting game logic. All the costumes don't count to unless they like specifically are a different character, like how like the Olimar and Alf situation is.
00:28:00
Speaker
Well, and plus, according to Super Smash Brothers ah lore, wasn't like in the original games that they were all supposed to be like little figurines? Yeah, they'd come to life. That's why the the final boss was like a hand. It's like that's the person's hand who plays all figurines. And then they slowly it was so it slowly became they're all trophies.
00:28:17
Speaker
And then with ultimate, they're all spirits. Well, that that yeah doesn't that imply that they're spirits that are possessing the trophies of the main characters. Yeah. If they're spirits, doesn't that imply that they're all dead? Uh, I guess.
00:28:35
Speaker
I don't know. I don't know what goes on in Sakurai's brain half the time. Except Kirby. Kirby can't die. kirby Yeah. Kirby can't die. Kirby didn't die. It's canonical. Kirby is the strongest Smash Brothers character. Yeah.
00:28:47
Speaker
It's just canon. we've don't We've done this for years. So besides Pauline, though, the other thing I've heard people talking about online with this game is I've seen ah quite a few people hoping that King K. Rool shows up.
00:29:00
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Okay, I'm going to say this. I didn't even think about K. Rool when I saw this trailer. i One, I maybe completely forgot he existed, which, sorry, King K. Rool.
00:29:13
Speaker
That's a valid point. I think if they do anything with K. Rool, it might be post-game somehow. Well, the the stuff I've seen is people grasping at straws to to believe. Because you see the villains at one point. and it's It was a while since I watched the the video. But I think on the side of one of one them had like either a castle or an airship or something.
00:29:31
Speaker
And somebody was look at this pattern etched on the side. This is a very similar pattern to the pattern on King K. Rool's crown or something like that. Or his cape. I can't remember. and And so people are are like...
00:29:43
Speaker
I guess looking and I can sympathize with that to an extent, like when, especially with Nintendo games, when I play a Zelda game, I am always disappointed when like Ganon doesn't show up. And so, yeah, people want the the main bad guy, but I'm, I'm enjoying like the designs of the, ah the new villains we've seen so far. So I'll be happy.
00:30:03
Speaker
Yeah, no, uh, with K rule, I think that if he does show up, it's either going to be a post game quest line Or it'll be revealed at the end of the game that Void Kong has been working for K. Rool. Like K. Rool is the like the real big owner of the Void Company and Void Kong was a pawn this whole time or something like that.
00:30:27
Speaker
That could be fun. It could be yeah that could be ah it'll be. It'll be interesting to see. I'm excited for when the game comes out July

Game Releases and Streaming Dynamics

00:30:35
Speaker
17th. We are less than a month away from the game.
00:30:39
Speaker
ah So we'll report back in a couple. We will be reporting back on one of the July episodes to let you know ah how the game is. So that'll be exciting.
00:30:49
Speaker
and That'll be exciting. Well, it's time for us now look at everything else that happened in these past two weeks. Let's dive into the week in review. Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the week in review.
00:31:09
Speaker
Kicking it off, some of the games that came out these past two weeks. You had Persona 5, the Phantom X, the brand new gacha Persona game that is out now as you're listening to the episode.
00:31:21
Speaker
ah I will be playing it. I'll let you know how it is. as Again, it's a day before the game actually comes out that we're recording this. ah Date Everything came out and people are going horny for inanimate objects.
00:31:34
Speaker
Hell yeah, love to see that. um and Business as usual. Business as usual. ah FBC Firebreak came out to mixed reviews. Rematch came out and everyone's loving the brand new soccer game.
00:31:48
Speaker
Death Stranding 2 on the beach came out and people can't get over the fact that Norman Reedus is talking to VTuber Pecora. ah And Tamagotchi Plaza also came out. And yes, it is pronounced Tamagotchi.
00:32:02
Speaker
Tamagotchi, not Tamagotchi. Yeah. Like, look, i like, look, when that first Nintendo Direct happened and they pronounced it Tamagotchi, we're like, oh, ah you know, it's probably just narrator being silly.
00:32:14
Speaker
But when the official trailer for the game calls it Tamagotchi Plaza as well. I just had to throw in the towel. I mean, I guess maybe that makes sense if you if you try and pronounce it ah like with Japanese characters. It would be... it it something japanese and In Japanese, and I believe it still like comes to Tamagotchi, I believe. Oh, really?
00:32:34
Speaker
i believe so. Or like Tamadot... Is it Tamadot... It's Tomodachi. I think it's like the proper word is like he means friend or something like that. Tomodachi. Yeah. Tomodachi. Thank you.
00:32:47
Speaker
And it's a play on. It's a Tamago. Tamago. Tamago. Tamago is a play on that because it's a virtual friend. Yeah, well and I think it might have something to do with like an egg, because I think Tamago, is it Tamago? Oh, yeah, Tamago. Tamago means egg, yeah, it does. so So Persona 5 Phantom X, i I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to play this or not, because I love playing Persona 5 Royal. I've been going through the Persona series the past couple of years, because, you know, they're long games.
00:33:16
Speaker
And i enjoyed Persona 5, but man, I'm just... I have feelings about gacha games, not entirely positive all the time. i have... You see, here's the thing. I get addicted to gacha games too easily.
00:33:29
Speaker
Like, I think I spent a good month or two in Star Rail. ah And I think I... so And I just got out of Pokemon Pocket TCG. I finally put that one down.
00:33:41
Speaker
um With Phantom X, I am going to be doing my damnedest to not Spend money in the game and just play be free to play.
00:33:55
Speaker
I'm going like the most I might do because there is a pass you can get. i might get that pass and get the extra things. But um my ah my goal is to do one of those accounts where you collect everything, but you don't spend anything.
00:34:11
Speaker
And you just like see how much of like the resources you have by like the end of it or like X point or something. Just wait till they wait till they have some collab with a premium character that you really want or they announce some new waifu that you fall in love with. And then all that's going to go out the window.
00:34:30
Speaker
exactly ah so i'm gonna play it the story for the game does look interesting and i think we get access to the first four palaces uh with what they've currently got uh it currently but because the game has been in like an alpha phase for a good while uh they did have a persona 3 collab that they did so we might get to look forward to a persona 3 collab returning in the future um where you can recruit Makoto and the cast of and see Akihiro bust a move apparently because that was shown in one of the things that I saw was Akihiro busting it down.
00:35:10
Speaker
Akihiko? Akihiko, Jesus. It's been a while. No, I'm sorry. For a second, I was like, crap, who's Akihiro? I don't want to lose my nerd cred here and be confused. Akihiko, it's is been a yeah a year since I've played the Persona 3 Reload and I'm already forgetting your character's name. It's okay. No. Now, Persona 5 X, it is it is free to play, right? So I i might like give it a try and see what it is. I'm a little bit skeptical, like I said, because of the gotcha stuff, but I'll probably give it a shot.
00:35:39
Speaker
I am looking forward to playing ah Date Everything, I think, because I do a lot of visual novels. And both of the two main games I'm playing right now on stream, I'm toward the end of I'm playing Metaphor Re Fantasio. Amazing game.
00:35:52
Speaker
And Ace Attorney Investigations 2. And so I got to come with some new stuff. um I think i might give it a shot. It's like every voice actor under the sun is attached to this project. Yes, couldn't believe the cast, the list that I saw. It is insane.
00:36:10
Speaker
um And that's one of the things that's got me most interested because I the art style I'm not entirely sold on. It's just I'm not saying it's bad. It's definitely like quality ah illustrated.
00:36:21
Speaker
and It's just not my jam. Generally, it's not art that I look at and go like, oh, man, I got to play this game just for the visuals. um So but like, just look at the cast and the premise is so goofy.
00:36:33
Speaker
I've got it on Steam. So, yeah, I might be playing that one pretty soon. I'm not sure. i might I might play it too. I'm i'm still in between if I do want to play that one or not. like I'm in a weird state of in-between-ness right now. of i like I'm waiting for my the next big game on but my list to come out before I get anything. but it's like um What game is that? I...
00:36:55
Speaker
i but okay so let's see there's i know are you allowed to say is it a secret but then there's bonanza for sure i was just trying to think if there's anything else that comes up before bonanza that i'm looking forward to playing and i'm doing that by looking at my steam list to see if there is anything that was announced that will be that has a release date that i'm trying to remember i don't think so you know, I got a question for for new games. I want to know if this is a similar experience for you because like I'm so torn because when a game comes out, I'm often like really excited to stream it. Like, you know, Deltarune chapters three and four came out recently and like, I want to play these games, but I find I can't play them right away when they come out if I'm going to stream them because so many of the people in my community that watch the streams are going to play these games themselves and they don't want, they like they want to play themselves first so they don't get spoiled by my stream. Like, do you ever have that where you have to like wait Wait a little while because you're your community, your viewers, whatever word you want to use, don't want to be spoiled by the game.
00:37:55
Speaker
I think I'm lucky where a lot of my community, ah like I'll use Danganronpa for example. I think there was maybe like one person in my community, which is my, who's like one of my IRL friends who had played the Danganronpa games beforehand and everyone else was essentially new to it. Like I was really, but we all got to kind of experience experience Danganronpa one and two together back when I streamed on my PlayStation.
00:38:22
Speaker
but That's how I started. That's how I started. I streamed on my PlayStation. And then we couldn't do Ultra Despair Girls or V3 until I got my PC set up because PlayStation blocked essentially like streaming of those games past certain points.
00:38:41
Speaker
So we couldn't do either of those. So we waited. I just played some other things. And then we played Ultra Despair Girls next. And that's a game. Yeah. That is an accurate description. So it sounds like you had like the exact opposite experience as me because ah my community, I love my community. They're so fantastic. So they what they do is like all the games played, I always go blind into these games, but they've, most of them have all played them.
00:39:07
Speaker
And so they seem to love... me not knowing what's coming next and just kind of like laughing at my pain, knowing when the the the real emotional stuff is is coming up and, you know, trying to flounder and guess what's going to happen.
00:39:22
Speaker
And so that's kind of what it's been. That's what it was for all the Danganronpa games and ah Persona games and pretty much everything, ah everything else we play. So it's they, in fact, ah a couple of community members have even like set up their own Discord server separate from the one that I have where they can basically laugh behind my back about all of the things that either if I'm guessing something and it's completely wrong or that, oh man, he's so clueless that such and such character is about to die that he really likes and it's going to be so funny. And so it's, it's a very different thing, but, but I, kind of enjoy being like the one
00:40:01
Speaker
person who doesn't know what's happening. And so that's why like I still haven't played Deltarune 3 and 4 yet. I'm going to play it soon, but I got to give everybody else a chance to play it so that ah so we can we can have our our usual dynamic.
00:40:14
Speaker
Yeah, no, it's, yeah, it's, ah yeah yeah like i said, I've been lucky that, like, most of my community, like, one, they either just don't care enough, they don't care, or, like, if they do care, they won't watch, and then they'll play it, and then watch my VODs, if I, because i so yeah I'm usually good at saving, like, my mate my bigger series onto my VOD channel, ah which ah is what I'll be doing with, like, I've been doing that with ah my dig the Digimon games, which I'm excited for Time Stranger, that comes out later this year.
00:40:42
Speaker
um But like as we're like the next. So I was looking at my list. The next games that come out, the next thing that comes out literally on my list is Bonanza. And then after that is the new Somnium Files game.
00:40:53
Speaker
I OK, I did one playthrough of the first game and I always want to say AI, the Somnium Files. But then in the Nintendo Direct, they're like, think. So yeah, so it is it is ill I, the Somnium Files.
00:41:05
Speaker
But I a lot I still call it AI, the Somnium Files. like i yeah I don't care. So the thing is, I played the game, but it it is one of those games that I guess you got to do multiple playthroughs just to see everything and to get the whole story of.
00:41:20
Speaker
It's and a game of pathways where basically from the start of the game, uh you do you you there's like the the base start of the game and then you go down a path and basically just follow that path to the end and then you go you go find where all the branching paths are and go do those and then you go find the thing that gives you the true final path and get uh the good the the final true ending of the game Well, yeah, because like the the ending that I got, it was a very emotionally satisfying ending, but it really didn't explain a whole heck of a lot.
00:41:56
Speaker
No, because the the game is meant for you to go down every Right, right. And so it's one of the things where I i guess I need to go back and play, but I'm also the type of person. It's like, I already played this game. I like the game, but I don't know Once I've finished a game, I'm kind of ready to move on to the next thing. So i I'll eventually go back to it, but it may be a while. The the new one, I'm i'm glad that they're making a new one. Oh my god. you So I got... Final side tangent before we get into our headlines.
00:42:21
Speaker
I got into Somium Files at like the perfect time because I played the first one about a month month or two before the second one was about to come out and i had the nirvana initiative right yeah nirvana initiative and i had no clue that they were doing it until we finished our first play we finished the game and i see it like in my youtube recommended algorithm stuff uh a trailer for ai the savia vials nirvana initiative i'm like Ain't no way. um And so i go on vacation, come back. I'm like, guys, it's time for kick. We're playing Nirvana initiative. And I love Nirvana initiative a lot.
00:43:00
Speaker
It is has one of the coolest twists in a game that only it can do with how it has everything set with how they have everything set up.

Industry Updates and Collaborations

00:43:12
Speaker
And now the third game ah takes place before Nirvana initiative. but But I've heard that that you still need to play Nirvana Initiative before playing this one. Is that correct? The nice thing about the Samia Viles games is they quiz you with Nirvana Initiative at least.
00:43:30
Speaker
They quiz you on whether or not you've played the first game or not. Oh, really? And so yeah now does it do that so it knows whether to catch you up on stuff you've missed or to avoid telling you stuff that would be spoilers for the previous game? To avoid telling you stuff that would be spoilers. That's kind of cool. I dig that.
00:43:47
Speaker
yeah um One other thing I got to mention before we move on to the next segment, though, you mentioned Death Stranding 2. I still haven't played the first one. I ah get around to it, but i just i get I get intimidated by really, really long Kojima games.
00:43:59
Speaker
But is it wrong that the whole Pakora collab actually makes me... More excited to play it. Like, cause at first it's like, ah they're making another one. Okay. And then I saw that they're putting, or i don't know. game It's just, and it's fantastic. It's just, it's just her. That is her VTuber model. Just right there. It's not that her voice is playing a character.
00:44:20
Speaker
Uh, it's not like, for example, like one of my heroes in comedy is Conan O'Brien and he was in the the first game, I think, but he he's obviously not himself. He's just playing a character and it's like, okay, that's neat. That's awesome.
00:44:32
Speaker
But this is literally just her. Yeah. And I, I don't know. I should probably think, oh, that's so dumb. But instead of like, oh, that's awesome. I kind of want to play this now. No, it's interesting. like a people For that alone, people are like, oh, this is game of the year.
00:44:47
Speaker
i like I don't know how the game goes. Again, I still need to play the first Death Stranding to understand the world. I feel like this is a game where you kind of need to play the first one to understand a little bit of what's going on because this is Kojima at the end of the day. And while a lot of people praise him for his storytelling and stuff, it can be confusing if you don't know what the fuck is going on.
00:45:09
Speaker
So that's that's kind of the boat I'm in as well. I i probably need to play it. I think i I'm pretty sure I got it. I think I got it like, I think it went on like free in the Epic Game Store a while back, which is like the only time I ever check the Epic Game Store.
00:45:24
Speaker
I check it every so often because it's like every week there's always a new free game. Yeah, yeah. i I just, I don't know, I hate having multiple different game launchers. And so it's just every now and then someone say, hey, gotta get And then some like, okay, time to boot up the Epic Game Launcher, have to reset my password because I can't remember what the heck it is because I haven't checked this in like a year and then download the free game and then never get around to playing it because I never bothered to launch Epic Game Launcher.
00:45:48
Speaker
Yeah, no, I only use Steam and Epic, and I only use Epic to get the free games, and I've only purchased one game on the Epic Game Store, and that was Alan Wake American Nightmare, because that's the only place you can find that game now.
00:45:59
Speaker
Oh, OK. I think I got the first Alan Wake on on Steam during a sale like last year. still haven't played it yet, but it was like when everyone was going crazy about Alan Wake 2. So I'm like, yeah, no, there're they're solid games, honestly. Like, I didn't understand it until I played the first Alan Wake. I'm like, oh this is Sam Lake, pretty fucking good writer. Not gonna lie. He's a pretty good writer at what he and what he's done.
00:46:25
Speaker
um All right. Onto the headlines. Starting off. If you're wondering if we're going to be talking about the Capcom showcase, the THQ Nordic showcase and the Arc System Works showcase, those will be covered next week. Just going to give you guys a heads up right now.
00:46:39
Speaker
Sonic Racing Cross Worlds has officially announced it was leaked the last ah episode. ah But they have officially confirmed SpongeBob and Patrick will be coming into the game with a paddy wagon vehicle and Bikini Bottom racetrack as part of the DLC season pass.
00:46:55
Speaker
They also confirmed that other Nickelodeon shows, TMNT, whatever the newest one of that is. I think it was the movie. And also Avatar The Last Airbender will be there as well as part of the season pass.
00:47:08
Speaker
So now Sonic has Minecraft and Nickelodeon. So at at what point does it stop being a Sonic racing game then? If they took out Sonic, I think. I guess.
00:47:20
Speaker
Well, no, i what it it makes me feel like playing modern day Mortal Kombat games where, you know, suddenly it's like it's Homelander versus Freddy Krueger and stuff like that. like, this is not Mortal Kombat anymore.
00:47:32
Speaker
This is just like guest characters doing Mortal Kombat-esque stuff. yeah This looks fun, but it does feel like it's kind of losing the plot a little bit. on being a sonic racing game because i don i don't know i don't feel like sonic is particularly well known for his crossovers with spongebob and the ninja turtles and also hatsune miku and persona 5 joker oh that's right that's right i mean it looks fun though it looks fun i'm not like complaining or anything it's just it's uh it's odd but it looks good yeah
00:48:06
Speaker
Elden Ring Night Reign added a new update, which put in harder versions of certain Nightlord bosses, but they made it a limited time update and it ends. It literally ended today.
00:48:18
Speaker
crap. I still need to get that game. That game looks so freaking fun. I'm not a big Souls guy. ah Never was. I tried Elden Ring, played it sadly an hour too long to get a refund.
00:48:31
Speaker
um So it's just sitting in my library forever. You see, I've never been a big Souls guy either, but I did get Elden Ring and I played it and I freaking loved it because I played it before.
00:48:43
Speaker
I still haven't finished the whole thing to be totally honest because i got distracted with other stuff. I think I got to the, what was it called? The Atlas Plateau um or was it Altus? I can't remember. Anyway, I was enjoying the heck out of it. I got it before Tears of the Kingdom came out, and it was just scratching a Zelda Breath of the Wild exploration itch in me.
00:49:03
Speaker
i I freaking loved that game. I just loved kind of wandering around exploring, even though like the combat was hard. I found it strangely kind of Zen and just kind of relaxing to just, just wander around and kill things and explore stuff. So I want to play night rain, but dang, the idea of trying to coordinate with two friends to get a party of three together every time you want to play just seems like that's going to be hard to do. Yeah. They are adding a duos update sometime in the future. They did say that. So you least look forward to that.
00:49:32
Speaker
Nice. In some update news, Hades 2 got a brand new update, the Unseen Update. This is adding new relationship levels for a good chunk of the characters. Narcissus finally has an image.
00:49:45
Speaker
New hidden aspects for all of the weapons. the new vow of rivals, which changes all the warden fights, a lot of new boons and a lot more to do. um I need to jump back into Hades too. I put in so many more hours into Hades too over Hades one. And I love Hades too. Currently.
00:50:04
Speaker
um Can I admit that I've still never played Hades? It's a solid game. It's a really game. looks fun. Everybody sings his praises. I've got some friends who stream it and I've watched it. and looks fun, but I've i just never gotten around to it myself. That's fair.
00:50:15
Speaker
That's fair. There's a lot to do in it. It's a good time sinker. um Starting this month, Oculus Studios will no longer be releasing Beat Saber content for the PlayStation VR version on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and plans to end the multiplayer support for the PlayStation version early next year.
00:50:36
Speaker
So rest Sorry to hear that Beat Saber PlayStation fans. But if you have, I'm pretty sure majority of Beat Saber's players are on the other VR systems.
00:50:47
Speaker
So yeah, there that that it that's probably why they're doing it, honestly. I would assume, at least. I don't know. ah Bungie is delaying Marathon indefinitely, which i ah No surprise there. yeah you Yeah, the initial reaction to that were ah we we're a mess.
00:51:07
Speaker
And so, you know what? Take your time, Bungie. Work on it. Make it seem more unique. And come back later. ah Thanks.
00:51:19
Speaker
The Five Nights at Freddy's collaboration in Dead by Daylight is officially out, which added Springtrap as a brand new killer and Freddy Fazbear's Pizza as a new map. And I believe they also had, a oh, Matthew Lillard voiced a couple lines for Springtrap.
00:51:36
Speaker
Oh, that's cool. Which is kind of cool. I think i because I saw like a clip and like, oh, Matthew Lillard recording something for the Springtrap. I'm like, let's go.
00:51:47
Speaker
That's that's cool. And also, I think a new teaser for FNAF 2, the movie ah dropped not that long ago as well. Do you think they'll be able to get Markiplier to do a cameo this time? i hope so. I really hope so.
00:52:00
Speaker
They got the MatPat one, which was bang on with the first movie. ah So hopefully they'll get the Markiplier one and the second one. or And MatPat, I guess he's doing like legit acting stuff now? Because did you hear? he was in the Thunderbolts movie.
00:52:13
Speaker
Markiplier? Or MatPat? No, no, MatPat, MatPat. He was in Thunderbolts? Yeah, he was in Thunderbolts. Like, a small role, but he was in it. didn't know he was in... are more people talking about that?
00:52:26
Speaker
I think he was, like, a hostage or something. I actually still haven't seen Thunderbolts. I haven't been to the movies in ages. I've been so busy lately. But, yeah, he's he's in it. He's got a small role. Like, look it up. Huh? MatPat, the man's, you know, I'm so happy for that man right now. he he's retired from YouTube and now he's doing small acting gigs, getting into politics. It's that bad is just that man.
00:52:49
Speaker
He says he's retired. He's never going to retire. Yeah, just keep doing what you love doing. exactly ah Dave Bautista and developer Titan One Studios have announced a major partnership to launch a new multimedia franchise called Cat Assassin.
00:53:04
Speaker
um This includes an animated series, publishing efforts, and a stealth action video game which is already in development. So that's what Dave Bautista's been up to. I often wonder that. I often kept up at night like, what's Bautista doing next? What's Bautista doing next now that he's ah done being Drax?
00:53:21
Speaker
Once human, a free to play survival adventure shooter. Uh, that's pretty popular on steam. Uh, now has added custom dedicated servers available in the game. you can finally just have private servers to play on.
00:53:33
Speaker
Um, so congrats to people who have been asking for that. Uh, Warner brothers games is in the news cause they've announced a brand new restructuring of their, uh, games department.
00:53:45
Speaker
Uh, so six months after the departure of its president, David had dead, ah They are continuing to reorient themselves around four core franchises. um They'll see it split into three divisions based on their more important gaming properties.
00:54:00
Speaker
Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC, but specifically Batman because Batman's their big game seller for the DC stuff.
00:54:12
Speaker
it's It's an interesting choice of stuff there, because like I'm trying to think, when was the last time you really had a big, successful DC Comics game? Because Suicide Squad kills the Justice League didn't do really well. Whatever the last Arkham game was.
00:54:26
Speaker
because i Even then, they're they're no longer even doing mainline Arkham games. They're always doing just like, hey, here's ah a VR Arkham experience. Yeah, it's been a while. I know in a previous podcast episode earlier this season with our boy No Score Nick, we...
00:54:41
Speaker
talked about how if, um because since Doom went back to like ah the medieval times for their latest game, what if Batman did that? Like that a medieval Batman Arkham game where you see like, ah that I think that would be cool.
00:54:58
Speaker
Stranger Things have happened. I mean, they've got those. I think they even did a sequel to the straight-to-DVD. ah what It's like, what was it? It was like Batman and in ancient Japan. and it's Ninja Batman, Samurai Batman, something like that. Yeah, something. was one those two.
00:55:12
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, exactly. it it would It kind of fits like I like of all the DC people you could do. Batman makes the most sense of how you can do it Lord Bruce Wayne sitting in his castle giving spreading his wealth when all of a sudden the Joker who's an actual like harle har ah Harlequin ah is ah causing chaos. It'd be cool. I think it'd cool.
00:55:36
Speaker
And as long as it's Batman, it'll probably sell. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. We got to find a new voice ever since. Yeah, I was sadly passed away. They do have to find a new voice for that. So I bet you that's what they're working on right now. If they are working on it, if there is a Batman game being worked on is finding a new voice to replace the iconic Kevin Costner.
00:55:56
Speaker
I mean, I do love, because he's had a lot of great voices over the years. I do love, um I would say his name wrong, Diedrich Bader, ah who played him in like Brave and the Bold, and he plays him in in like the Harley Quinn animated series.
00:56:08
Speaker
I do feel like he tends to lean more into the the kind of lighthearted, kind of almost comedy aspect of Batman a bit. But he's great, though. yeah Good to know. I'm not a big Batman guy. Like, yeah I know the stuff, but never actually, I've never played an Arkham game.
00:56:24
Speaker
Really? Yeah. They're so good. I need to get play one soon. Yeah. The, the, I mean, Arkham Asylum is a great game. Arkham city just takes everything good about it and ratchets it up. Arkham origins is clunky because it was made by a different studio and it's, it's good, but it's a bit clunky. And then Arkham night is great except for every moment spent in the Batmobile, which is pain.
00:56:46
Speaker
Good to know. Yeah. ah The founder of Nexus Mods, Robin Dark1 Scott, has announced that he's stepping back from the day-to-day running of the site a full 24 years after founding it. And a new CEO has been named.
00:57:01
Speaker
um And they said, hey, we're going to kind of keep things relatively the same. We're not going to put it any more like charging than we need to. So don't worry about that. Which is nice, I guess.
00:57:15
Speaker
Honestly, haven't used Nexus mods, I think, since ah is Skyrim. Yeah, man. I mean, really, that's like one of the only games to really use it for. I use it for that all the Stardew mods are on there as well. So I use that for to get started, the Stardew Valley mods as well.
00:57:31
Speaker
Cool. ah In Warzone news, Bavis and Butthead are getting added to Call of Duty Black Ops 6 in Warzone. They're getting drafted. but Yeah.
00:57:43
Speaker
Oh my God. Yeah. Didn't they do an episode like that where they got like sent to bootcamp or something? I don't, I don't know. know. It's been forever since I've seen any Beavis and Butthead. But as soon as I said that, I had this flash image in my head of them getting like their hair buzzed down in like a bootcamp office. oh Oh my God. That's funny. I gotta Google this.
00:58:04
Speaker
That's funny if they did. ah Build a rocket boy. The developers of mine are facing layoffs after an extremely rough launch for the game. Around 100 employees are set to be laid off or have been laid off if ah the layoffs have ah already happened.
00:58:21
Speaker
ah In Riot news, Riot has canceled their Minecraft-inspired sandbox game Hytale and have closed down the studio that was making it after seven years of no updates from that.
00:58:33
Speaker
ah Dune Awakening is changing the endgame of the the game to add some PvE areas for those who don't want to do all the PvP stuff. um We got a new trailer for Return to Silent Hill, and the movie will be premiering in theaters January 23rd.
00:58:50
Speaker
And Little Nightmares 3 will officially be releasing October 10th. I'm excited for that one. That one looks good. um In the ongoing game news, starting with Final Fantasy XIV, we had our live letter from the producer number 87.
00:59:06
Speaker
where Yoshi P and Fox came out ah to state, started off with a big feedback section about the Occult Crescent and the Cosmic Exploration segments of the game, um basically giving updates of what they're going be doing to...
00:59:23
Speaker
ah fix the areas, add stuff, and all that stuff. And then we go into all the new details that are going to come in 7.3, The Promise of Tomorrow, which will act as the finale of Dawn Trail.
00:59:35
Speaker
It will be released sometime in August later this year. What we'll be getting in 7.3 is, of course, new MSQ missions, the brand new Allied Society, the Yakui, who...
00:59:48
Speaker
I think are going to be crafting unless they decide to for these allied societies and give us the moblins later on for crafting. So Yakui are next.
01:00:01
Speaker
Don't know if it's going crafting or if it's going to be another battle ah tribe. ah More Hilda brand, which is always great. The brand new dungeon, the Meso Terminal, the brand new trial and EX trial, which they did not reveal the name of yet.
01:00:16
Speaker
uh the echoes of vanadeel's uh sandoria the second walk which is the second alliance raid for dawn trail which is in collaboration with final fantasy 11. the wreath of snakes is the next unreal that you'll be taking a part of uh vault one iron is the brand new treasure dungeon Duty support will be added for Cutter's Cry, so you can play that with NPCs.
01:00:37
Speaker
The ninth PvP series will start up to get a new emote, mount, minion, whatever the rewards are. um With a new Crystalline Conflict map being added called the Bayside Battleground based on Juliolol.
01:00:51
Speaker
ah You'll be able to queue as duo for casuals in Crystalline Conflict, and two new ranks are getting added, um Omega and Ultima, for ranked matches in Crystalline Conflict.
01:01:02
Speaker
The new cosmic exploration star is called Faina. ah The next step for the Phantom Relic weapons will be added as well. And they showed an image of the Warrior of Light in pain, which is how I feel about the first step for the Phantom weapons, as it is right now.
01:01:21
Speaker
um The a new deep, the big thing, new deep dungeon, hallelujah. Pilgrim's Traverse is what it's called. is ah and it'll be accessible by completing the Endwalker MSQ. Level 90 is what you'll need to be to access it.
01:01:37
Speaker
And they're doing a thing where if you finish the entirety of the Deep Dungeon, the level 99 boss or level 100 boss will be able to be instanced separately with a harder version after you clear the Deep Dungeon version of it.
01:01:55
Speaker
um There will not be a new ultimate for 7.3, so they're still cooking on that. The chat bubble feature should be added sometime during 7.3's waves of updates.
01:02:06
Speaker
Viera and Hrothgar are finally getting their headgear fixed. They can wear essentially almost every headgear piece now. Bangs will now appear through when you're wearing hoods for all the races.
01:02:20
Speaker
And the whiteboard feature will be coming sometime during the 7.4 updates. And that's everything coming into 7.3. Live Letter 88 will be coming sometime next month with more details, a proper release date, and of course, the 7.3 trailer.
01:02:40
Speaker
ah In Fortnite news, Hank Hill, Bob Belcher, and Cleveland Brown were added on Father's Day to Fortnite. And Squid Game is collaborating with Fortnite for Reload Squid Grounds, which is a new game. I don't know if it's a new game mode for Fortnite or not. I don't play Fortnite.
01:02:58
Speaker
I just report the news on Fortnite. Isn't the new season of Squid Game about to start? It's about to start soon. soon I need to check that out. Which is why ah they're doing a Squid Game collaboration.
01:03:13
Speaker
Synergy. How about that? In Hoyleverse News, Cognosphere is suing a guy who streamed Honkai Star Rail gameplay on Discord that included a new character who had not been released to public.
01:03:25
Speaker
Uh, yeah, that guy's going to court. Uh, and in blizzard news, the new season of overwatch is starting up, which has added a new map and a lot of new updates to the game. Uh, season 17. And also there is no blizzcon this year. So gamescom when that happens in August, we'll be revealing the next world of warcraft expansion midnight.
01:03:47
Speaker
Hmm. In esport news, Cloud9 has released Super Smash Bros. Melee fighter Mango after his drunken behavior led to sexual harassment behavior during Ludwig's Bireo Kart tournament.
01:04:04
Speaker
Why do I feel like almost every esports news headline you have is probably some variation of that sentence? Yeah, lot. um that It depends on the week, not going to lie.
01:04:15
Speaker
um Mango has responded, making a post on Twitter, apologizing for everything. um It was a pretty long statement, but he has stated that he is ah currently looking at rehab centers and will be checking himself into rehab.
01:04:30
Speaker
so Was he at least playing like a ukulele while he said all this? ah No. which I think ah can't take as long as... ah Honestly, I think I'll take them more seriously if they don't play a ukulele while making an apology video. Not going to lie. I'm going to be honest. I have no idea who any of these people are. I don't know. Cloud9 or Mango or Ludwig's Bureau, whatever. but ah I hope all people involved are able to come to a proper conclusion of this yeah this terrible incident. Yes.
01:05:02
Speaker
Absolutely. um Yeah. um For those who do not know who Mango is back in the day when Smash Melee had like a more prominent presence in the esports scene, Mango was seen as one of the five greatest players of the the game.
01:05:19
Speaker
Oh. Yeah. as said I think it was like where he was like five kings or five emperors of Melee or what the title was, but he was like one of the one of the best of the game you had seen.
01:05:31
Speaker
ah That was back when I was a ah smash head and watched like everything like esport related to like anything Smash Bros. And then you know all the stuff comes out of like half... Being competitive Smash Bros. player, ah but not a lot of good things happen to like some of the bigger players because they did some terrible things.
01:05:50
Speaker
um But that's all I'll get into of that. Moving on to the TCG news, starting off with Pokemon, ah Black Bolt and White Flare is the next expansion, and that is set for July 18th.
01:06:01
Speaker
We also got a brand new trailer for the Mega Evolution cards. I don't know if they're a part of the next set or if we're still waiting for anything Mega related to come out later. And Pokemon TCG Pocket, the Eevee Grove expansion or set has dropped, and you can now pull for some new Eevee cards and a bunch of new cards that are now in the game.
01:06:23
Speaker
In Yu-Gi-Oh! News, Duelist Advance drops July 3rd, Justice Hunters on July 31st, and the 2025 Mega Pack Bundle 10 comes out September 4th.
01:06:35
Speaker
In Magic the Gathering, Edge of Eternities drops August 1st, the Spider-Man cards on September 26th, and the Avatar The Last Airbender cards November 21st.
01:06:47
Speaker
In Loracana, Fabled drops September 5th. And in the Digimon DCG, the extra booster versus monsters is out now. Cyber Eden, which does feature a bunch of of Cyber Sleuth cards, drops July 25th.
01:07:01
Speaker
Sinister Order on September 29th. Hacker's Slumber, which is Hacker's Memory cards, October 18th. Billion Bullet sometime in October. And Tamer's Evolution box, Rise of Digimon, sometime in December.
01:07:14
Speaker
And that is everything from the week in review. Logan, any final thoughts on any of the final stories there? That's just a lot of stuff. Like my head's been spinning, listening to all these things. So ah no, no initial thoughts other than I think Magic the Gathering with all of their crossovers is soon about to turn into modern Mortal Kombat as well.
01:07:34
Speaker
Spider-Man. Yeah, Spider-Man. Now Spider-Man can go up against Hatsune Miku. yeah As he should. Exactly.
01:07:45
Speaker
All right. And now that we've talked about everything that just happened, it's time to take a look ahead at all the games coming out in the next two weeks. Here's what should be on your radar from June 30th to July 11th.
01:07:57
Speaker
From AAA titles, indie hits, hidden gems, and hot pieces of garbage, here are the games coming out that should be on your radar. And it's actually a slower of the two weeks. Not a whole lot um for this early summer, these early summer weeks. ah On the 30th, Primordialis comes to the PC.
01:08:18
Speaker
Wow. On the first, Mecha Break comes to the Series X in PC and Aura Kingdom Impact releases on the PC. Nothing on the second, but on the third, Angry Birds Bounce releases on iOS.
01:08:29
Speaker
Nothing on the fourth or the seventh, but on the eighth, Missile Command Delta comes to the PS5 Series X Switch in PC. Bankery Cafe Simulator comes out on the PC as well.
01:08:41
Speaker
Nothing on the 9th, but on the 10th, EA Sports College Football 26 releases on the PS5 and Series X. Everdeep Aurora comes to the Switch and PC. And Islanders New Shores comes to everything but the Switch 2.
01:08:53
Speaker
And on the 11th, Patapon 1 and 2 Replay comes to the PS5 Switch and PC. And Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4 comes out on everything. and those are all I think out of all those.
01:09:05
Speaker
Yeah, out of all those games, I think the one that the only one that's really been on my radar is Mecha Break, mainly because I love, you know, giant robots and stuff like that. And I don't know if the game's going to be any good, but the trailer looks like giant robots and and cute girls. So I guess that's a decent combination. And it's free. The third.
01:09:23
Speaker
oh Oh, it's free. Oh, I didn't know that. That makes it. Yes. Well, although I always worry about free to play games because I'm like, crap, does that mean that it's going to be like pay to win microtransactions and stuff like that?
01:09:34
Speaker
But maybe it'll be good. Maybe the third. The third is my birthday. And so it's good to know that on my birthday, I can celebrate by by being reminded that Angry Birds is desperately trying to stay relevant. So, yeah, is' nice I mean, hey, if yeah would you if you ever play the Pirate Yakuza game, they have like three Angry Birds music tracks in there.
01:09:53
Speaker
Wait, really? yeah Yeah. It came out. Does Machima karaoke to any of them? No, they're just um like it's start starting with like, I think it was like a dragon. You could collect these CDs to just listen to.
01:10:05
Speaker
okay you can like a drag. You can only listen to them like in the karaoke bar, but you can karaoke to them. In Infinite Wealth Onward, you have like an MP3 player that you can play music out of if you don't want to listen, that you can walk around with.
01:10:20
Speaker
And there's like three or four Angry Birds songs that you can find. That's kind of cool. I mean, if i mean not not specifically the Angry Birds stuff, but like the game mechanic. yeah I mean, I guess there's nothing wrong with it, but I doubt anything's forcing you to listen to to and tracks you don't like. It's also a reminder that Sega owns whoever makes Angry Birds now, because that's the reason they got him.
01:10:41
Speaker
I love that it's just owns whoever owns it. I don't even know. is yeah It's just like sega Sega. Sega's the umbrella there, which is kind of nuts now. ah But yeah, Angry Birds Bounce. And also happy early birthday, Logan.
01:10:56
Speaker
Oh, thank you. Happy late birthday, because yours was just recently. Yeah, it was. ah Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, because we we rated into your stream, but I think it was like a couple of days after. yeah it was. But you were you're celebrating that. Yeah, I was. I had to work on my birthday. That's why.
01:11:09
Speaker
Oh, I'm sorry. and I'm used to it. um My big game, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 and 4. I'm excited for that one. I've heard they're good. I've never played a Tony Hawk game. Really? But I hear they're great. I played... So my first Tony Hawk game was Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2.
01:11:25
Speaker
Like the recent remake that came out a couple of years ago. i actually went back to that game year and platinumed it. That was... and platinum ah that was you know what? Certain things are easy.
01:11:39
Speaker
There was like one really hard thing that took me an hour and a half to do, but we did it. And congratulations. I'm going to do it again. And also um the teenage unit Ninja Turtles are going to be in the game as well as Doomguy.
01:11:56
Speaker
and also there's a SpongeBob secret in the game too. Okay. Like putting the Ninja Turtles into a skateboard game. That, it that is an inspired collab. I like that.
01:12:07
Speaker
Yeah, it's good. at I'm looking forward to it. I'm very excited for Pro Skater 3 and 4. I'm going to skate my little heart out. And it comes out the 11th. So that's, but to answer your question from earlier, that's the game that I am waiting for to come out right now as I am in between video games.
01:12:24
Speaker
Nice. ah

Remakes and Remasters Discussion

01:12:25
Speaker
All right. Well, with that, it's time for us to now head on to our main focus of the day. Here is what we're talking about week in the game. Conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers and anything else that's important to us.
01:12:42
Speaker
Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge. And to start it off, our first topic, it's about, we're talking remakes and remasters, which is very fitting because during the Xbox showcase, we got a trailer for the brand new Persona 4 revival.
01:12:59
Speaker
which did not show us much aside from just like up-rezzed Inaba. Yeah, we know that you, Narukami, is in it, and that Inaba is in it. We know that the Chad Narukami is returning as we got to see him run, and that's about it.
01:13:20
Speaker
ah what what What are your thoughts on Persona 4 revival and Persona 4 getting another remake like this? um'm I'm looking forward to it, but I'm a bit like apprehensive ah to an extent, because I actually have no problems. Well, not no problems, but I'm fine with Persona 4 Golden existing as it is.
01:13:42
Speaker
That was the first Persona game I played. I played ah Persona 4 Golden, 5 Royal, and 3 Reload. But... um It'll be their opportunity to to improve on some gameplay mechanics.
01:13:54
Speaker
I feel like the dungeon design wasn't great. it kind of relied very heavily on just kind of procedurally generated stuff for most of it. I think my two biggest concerns, though, i ah because, of course, they're going to update all the the art and the character portraits and things like that.
01:14:09
Speaker
And I really love the art style that already existed in Persona 4. Some of the character portraits, like, I don't want you to touch them. Just please just leave them as is. But my biggest concern is, of course, they had the big ah kind of kerfuffle with Yuri Lowenthal, the voice of Yosuke, who a few days before the the trailer came out had gone online to say, it's like, hey, ah i I've not been asked to be in the Persona 4 remake. i've I've begged and begged, but they said no or whatever. something to to that extent. Yeah. He posted that online and then like later deleted it. And then after that, it was like Domino Effect, all these other voice actors from Persona 4, one after another. Specifically, it was Chie's voice actor and then Yukiko's voice actor.
01:14:52
Speaker
Yeah. ah Wasn't there a... ah was there ah i thought there a fourth one, but maybe it just those three. I don't think there was a fourth one. It was just like those three. And then people were like, oh, is Troy Baker or Matt Mercer about to announce it next? Because Troy Baker was the voice of...
01:15:09
Speaker
Kanji in the original, and then it became Matt Mercer in Golden. And of course, and because Persona 4 has a great voice cast. Golden does. I've never played Vanilla. yeah um They had some changes. I love Aaron Fitzgerald as Chie, because I guess it had a different voice actress in the original version.
01:15:25
Speaker
But of course, you got like Johnny Young-Bosch in there. yeah it's it's ah You got Sam Regal. Great cast. That's what I'm worried about as well. Now, I'm hoping...
01:15:37
Speaker
And I'm probably wrong, but I'm hoping that the reason why they were all getting kind of turned down on it is that when all that was happening, the SAG-AFTRA voice actor, like video game voice actor strike was still going on.
01:15:51
Speaker
ah And that, of course, had to do with ah one of the biggest holdups was the use of AI stuff and things like that. And so if that strike was going on, none of them would be able to be in a Persona 4 remake.
01:16:05
Speaker
and But that strike has now ended. yeah And so I'm thinking, like, maybe now, like if as long as they're not too far into the development, which I imagine that like recording the English voice cast lines would be something they do relatively late in the process, like, maybe they can still get them?
01:16:22
Speaker
I'm sure that if they don't, the new voices will be great. You look at other recent games, like Metaphor Re-Fantasio by Atlus as well. Um... You're not going to recognize like any of the voices. They're all new people. I don't know. Maybe that was because the voice actors strike as well, perhaps.
01:16:36
Speaker
But I'm just um' nervous because I love the voice cast. i want to see them back. and and oh i mean the big thing with metaphors voice cast specifically like of the entire voice cast like i didn't recognize like half them strictly because it's like majority of them british or like overseas and maybe that's what it is as well they they do have a lot of fancy accents but the only one that like i recognize off the bat was moore's voice actor because that's greg chun oh okay yeah ah which is, yeah he's got that very distinct voice. And, you know, he was also the voice of Konami Date, the lead protagonist of Somium Files, and has lent his voice into many other projects as well.
01:17:19
Speaker
Nice, I didn't even catch that. yeah i need to I need to pay more attention to him. But to be honest, I don't go into academia very often. um So no, I think Persona 4 Revival will probably be a very good game. ah the only i'm just I'm worried about the voice cast changing. I'm worried if they they you know change the character portraits a bit too much.
01:17:37
Speaker
I feel like a lot of games these days, especially games with like anime aesthetics when they're making remakes and revivals, the like the art style tends to get a bit more...
01:17:48
Speaker
Bland and generic in some of them. If that makes sense. no i so I get where you're coming from with that point. Because a lot of anime games. like They all look the same.
01:17:59
Speaker
Yeah. And I i like and like them to have their own. kind of Personality and identity. Yes. yes no I absolutely see where you're coming from with that. And I do agree.
01:18:11
Speaker
um I think that. With how. P3 reload did it. It did pretty good. So if it just it did well, it's got some great art, but i I also hadn't played the original version and was rather surprised when people started showing me sprites and I realized how long everyone's necks used to be. Yeah, but it's a bit off putting seeing like the old sprites and how long their necks are because you focus so much on their neck that it's like it looks almost unnatural a little bit, even though, you know, that's how people are drawn.
01:18:42
Speaker
Necks are weird. That's all I'm saying. that Necks are weird. How dare necks? Yeah, that's like that's a good way to put it. But yeah, it's definitely...
01:18:54
Speaker
I liked it. but Not the necks, the new artwork. Okay, good. I was worried if you liked necks. yeah Yeah. um What are your overall thoughts on like remakes and remasters?
01:19:11
Speaker
I feel like they're getting a bit overdone, but it's sort of just a symptom of a larger issue with the entertainment industry in general. Like everything's all about IPs, about name recognition. We're doing reboots, remakes, sequels to 20 and 30 year old franchises. And I don't know if it's just because it's like built in audiences, but now people are at the point where they kind of crave it.
01:19:32
Speaker
Like fans are always, when are they going to remake this? You already see some fans, some of them jokingly, ironically, calling for them to like, when are they going to remake Persona 5 Royal now? It's going to be due. and And I just kind of feel like once something exists, if it's good, you already have a good thing that exists. yeah You don't need to do it again.
01:19:50
Speaker
um Sometimes it's nice because it'll bring more attention to old ah franchises and old games and, you know, drum up interest and you might get more content from them.
01:20:01
Speaker
And it's also interesting when they do something new with it, like the Final Fantasy VII remakes. Mm-hmm. But for the most part, it's like I'm kind of at the point where I just I crave more new stuff rather than just always taking old things and polishing them a little bit.
01:20:18
Speaker
And sometimes when that polish doesn't even necessarily look as good as the old stuff. I mean, I'll see like some ah screenshots or or clips of of remakes of games and it's like it looks more realistic, but it doesn't look as good.
01:20:34
Speaker
Yeah. No, that's, I feel that. um Do you have any favorite slash least favorite remix of yours? Favorite remakes? Oh, gosh.
01:20:45
Speaker
I'd probably have to think about that. i I do need to go back and finally finish those Final Fantasy VII remakes I was talking about. Here's the problem I encountered with that. So I was playing through the first Final Fantasy VII remake. Yeah.
01:20:56
Speaker
And I got, I guess, a decent length into it. I got about to the point where they were going to do the, oh crap, what was it called? The Honey Bee Inn? Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah. Okay, I was i'm saying, I hope I'm saying that right because now I'm nowm used to metaphor calling it the, there's the hushed honeybee in and it's so similar. But anyway, I got about to that point and then they announced the Integrate.
01:21:18
Speaker
ah Oh yeah, remake Integrate the PlayStation 5 only. Yeah. And I'm like, holy crap. And i I want to play that. But I so I kind of stopped playing. and I'm like, I'm going to wait till integrate comes out.
01:21:29
Speaker
And I had it on PlayStation. And but I didn't want to buy it on there. And it it came out on on on Steam. And it was on sale. So I eventually got integrate on Steam. But that means I have to go back and like redo everything.
01:21:40
Speaker
And there's like that section where you're riding on the motorcycle in the tunnel with like Jesse on the back of the motorcycle. And I remember when I was doing it, became just obsessed with getting like the highest score possible and took for freaking ever. And so between that and other little bits, I'm kind of dreading going back and having to do hours and hours of gameplay all over again.
01:21:58
Speaker
But I'll get around to it eventually. But I do need to finish those games. So that's where I'm at. I'm kind of stalled in the middle of the first one. Okay, gotcha.
01:22:09
Speaker
Yeah, i I like Remake. I like Rebirth. I played both. I Platinum'd Remake, did not Platinum Rebirth, because Rebirth, they made Platinum for that one much harder. And I'm like, i'm either if i I might go back to it sometime in the future.
01:22:24
Speaker
Don't know when. ah But they made... they they say It was... a yeah Nightmares. Nightmares. One of my favorite...
01:22:35
Speaker
um remakes and just because it got remade was battle for bikini bottoms remake uh rehydrated hey i like it see i liked it that it got remade but like i still prefer the original because like while i like the art style and the art direction that the game took with the re with uh rehydrated i disliked the the game engine and how it felt compared to the original and now And when that same video did its like own original Spongebob platformer with that engine, that felt more natural for that game than it did with Bikini Bottom.
01:23:14
Speaker
Battle for Bikini Bottom. i yeah I think when you're doing a remake, if you want it to to be successful, you've it's always, and I feel like this probably goes with any type of reboot or remake, it even like TV shows and movies and whatever,
01:23:28
Speaker
It's always nice if you have people who, I guess mostly with TV shows, if you have people who worked on the original, who know what made it work, that they're not trying to like fix it so to say so to speak. because like For example, you got the new ah Phineas and Ferb remake. i don't know. Do you watch cartoons? I grew up watching Phineas and Ferb. I legit follow sam was Dan, what's his, Dan, it's not Dan Povenmeier.
01:23:52
Speaker
Yeah, Dan Povenmeier. I follow him on TikTok and stuff because ah he made funny. He does great, he does great content. Yeah, yeah. And so it's like, oh yeah, we're back where we got and the A-OK from Disney Plus to make new episodes. I'm like, oh shit, let's go.
01:24:08
Speaker
um I haven't watched them, but I've seen clips and people are reviewing it. It's like, yeah, feels like the it feels like the show never ended. I'm like, yeah. And it's always great when you have that type of situation. Either the people who worked on are the same or at the very least, they're people who have affection for the source material, who understand it.
01:24:24
Speaker
I feel like you don't always get that. Like if if we're talking about cartoons, I hate to stray too far away from video games. Did you watch, there was a recent ah reboot of Tiny Toon Adventures, an old cartoon from like the I hadn't heard of that. I never watched Tiny Toons in the first place.
01:24:42
Speaker
um so Here's thing. Did you ever have a thing when you were a kid where you'd like latch on to some movie and like you'd you'd watch it over and over and over again like every day? yeah i I had about four of those, and one of them was i had ah an old copy of... It was a Tiny Toons movie, How I Spent My Vacation, what was So it was about like summer vacation adventure.
01:25:03
Speaker
And that was one of about four movies that I watched like 100 times when I was a little kid. And so I had very strong attachments to Tiny Toons, and oh my gosh, the reboot is awful. It is just... poorly made in like every single way.
01:25:17
Speaker
And it just kind of feels like these are people who don't understand why the original worked and don't understand how to make the type of thing that would work. And so it's nice when you see something like Phineas and Ferb where like, no, these are the people who know it, who get it. And You've got to have that with video games as well.
01:25:32
Speaker
It goes with any form of entertainment. You need to have people that understand why the original is beloved, what we need to do to improve on, and what we just need to leave alone and let be because people already love these parts of it.
01:25:44
Speaker
Yeah. No, that's a great way to put it as well. Like... Like looking at one of the more recent remakes, you had Oblivion remastered, ah which is essentially everything looks great in the game.
01:25:55
Speaker
And it plays like Oblivion played with like a few small tweaks here and there. But then you look at it like objectively, all it's all the same bugs that were in the first Oblivion are here back in this one. They left in like, didn't they leave in like the bit there was like one woman who on one of her lines messed up the line, took a second take and they left it all in as one take. Yep.
01:26:15
Speaker
i I kind of love that, though, because Oblivion has like the reputation being so hokey with that type of thing that I kind of love that they left it in because it feels like part of it the game's identity. I feel like something like some bugs like that, I feel like you should keep in because absolutely, it matches the game's identity.
01:26:31
Speaker
But there are some that they should have fixed. Specifically, one, as I platinumed the game, I took 30 hours to just like One, I will say this. The trophy list for Oblivion Remastered sucks. All you're doing are the main quests. There's no encouraging for exploration like there is in Skyrim.
01:26:50
Speaker
So all it is is your main quest and then the four ah guild, five the four or five, the the arena quests, the Mage Guild, Fighters Guild, Thieves Guild, black Dark Brotherhood.
01:27:03
Speaker
And there's a how much of the ah im sorry go ahead there's a quest of the Thieves Guild that's still bugged. I don't know if they put a hot fix for it. But basically, if you did not talk to this guy at a specific time, at specific intervals to do a specific thing, and then come back to then at the specific time, specific interval, specific thing, you would not progress the quest and you'd be stuck there forever.
01:27:27
Speaker
Now, how much of those types of bugs, though, do you think is is just Bethesda being Bethesda? Because I feel like when they release a game and maybe there's a bit unfair, but my impression is whenever they release a game, they kind of just rely on and the the mod community will fix this stuff.
01:27:43
Speaker
With the originals, like with base Skyrim, base Oblivion, base Starfield, I think it's fine because, yes, there are. You know know that the Kipnati community is going to do that anyway.
01:27:57
Speaker
I think that if when they decide to re-release it, like Bethesda decides to re-release something, they should then take those notes that the modders did and maybe just fix the things.
01:28:11
Speaker
and They probably should. But I remember the first Bethesda game I played was Fallout 4 and I was playing it on on PlayStation. And that was a mistake because it eventually got so buggy that it it became unplayable. I could not advance anything anymore.
01:28:27
Speaker
And there's like nothing that you could do on console And so after that, I'm like, okay, I cannot play Bethesda games. It has to be on, on PC now so that if something goes wrong, I can either pull up console commands and fix things. I can get mods.
01:28:40
Speaker
But speaking of Bethesda games, I hate to get too off track here. You mentioned Skyrim. I gotta, I gotta to ask you important question. This, this is how you judge a person's soul in Skyrim. Yeah.
01:28:52
Speaker
whom did you romance oh oh god let me think back to my platinum trophy playthrough ah Yeah, you got to pick your canon playthrough here if you've done more than one. I've done a lot of like, so growing up, I grew up with playing Skyrim as a young teen, played a bunch, played a bunch on Xbox.
01:29:12
Speaker
And then I can't remember what what it was in my brain that i decided, you know what? Let's platinum Skyrim on PlayStation 4. And we did. Sat down, we played through. And I think when it came to the, because there was a trophy to get married.
01:29:27
Speaker
I think I just chose what's her name in Riverwood the the sister of the shopkeeper oh the one that you have the quest early on with the two guys in town that are both going for her oh oh yeah I guess yeah I guess there is that quest along with her too yeah her Okay, cool. That's good choice. i yeah I think I remember the first time when I started playing it, ah a good buddy of mine got into it first, and and he kind of fell in love with Lydia. And then I started playing, him like, oh, that's such a basic choice. She's like your first major sidekick. Now, I sold Lydia off to the Blades.
01:30:02
Speaker
i yeah for For me, it was Braylin and Marion from the ah the the Mage College, the College of Winterhold. Was that what was called? The Dark Elf up there?
01:30:13
Speaker
ah But yeah, i just think I kind of love games like that where... you things are so customizable i guess if if that's the right word uh so like with the marriage mechanic even though there's not much to it you basically just like pop on an amulet of mara or whatever it was mara you go talk to them and she's like they're like and then just everybody wants you yeah after that it's like oh an amulet of mara and then you set up the wedding you go do a couple things and boom you're and then that person is now living with you it's like okay great and That's all. But I just love that, that, that there's so many choices, games like that, like the, like dragon's dogma, the first one after they fixed it.
01:30:51
Speaker
Cause like, have you ever played dragon's dog? No, that is another ah game series. I have not touched. Their romance mechanic is so interesting because in the in the base version of the game, they had this whole thing set up where all the characters, almost all the characters that you interact with have like an affinity counter, ah but you you just don't see it. And so it's kind of hidden to you, but you're ranking up and down affinity. And the whole idea is it's playing it for the end of the game.
01:31:14
Speaker
I hope this isn't too much of a spoiler, but like toward the end of the game, the the main bad guy, the dragon, kidnaps your beloved. And so the game does, is it checks and sees which character, which NPC in this universe you have the highest affinity with, and that's who you have to go rescue.
01:31:31
Speaker
The problem is, one of the main ways that they tracked this in the original base version of the game was who you had the most conversations with, who you went back to Because you think like, oh, you like this NPC, every time you're in this village or town or whatever, you'll talk to this NPC.
01:31:45
Speaker
But for a lot of people, that was like, the weapon shop owner or the innkeeper or something like that. And so, so many people would play the game and then you'd have this really romantic cut scene where you're like making out with the weapons shop owner or something like that.
01:32:00
Speaker
And so they did the remake, ah Dragon's Dogma, Dark Arisen, I think is what it was called. okay And and they they fixed it a bit. They put less emphasis on who you talk to. They also added like this item. I think it's like a ring that you can give to somebody to like max out their affinity if you want to manually choose who it is. oh that's But I once again... have yeah but i once again just love the yeah I just love the idea that in a world full of NPCs, it can be anybody.
01:32:24
Speaker
You can have anybody as a romance option. The downside is, of course, the romance itself is obviously going to be very shallow. There's not going to be any real storyline to it. But I just kind of love it that it doesn't even need to be somebody important to the story. It could be random person down by the the fishing dock that you just happen to like for some reason. That is that is your your beloved. That is your spouse in this game. Yeah.
01:32:46
Speaker
I will say that during my platinum playthrough of Skyrim, ah near the end of it, because when I'm like, wow, I've done everything in the base game. Now I can do the DLC. I can do um not don trail ah Dawn Dawn.
01:33:00
Speaker
Dawn. Dawn. Oh, crap. What's good? The vampire one. The vampire one. And then you meet Serana. I'm like, oh, hello. a lot of people seem to like her quite a bit. A lot of people like Serana. I wonder why.
01:33:15
Speaker
I wonder why. you think the gaming industry slash the consumer will ever we'll ever get to a point where we're like we're done with remakes and remasters?
01:33:29
Speaker
um I mean, it's tough to say which branch of the entertainment industry will go first, whether it'll be video games, movies, TV shows. I i think it's eventually going to happen somewhere, but I think it probably won't happen until there's kind of a big... ah kind of collapse a big cave in we're already seeing like some movies are are really struggling i mean you look at what what's happening with disney with a lot of their live action remakes yeah how much uh snow white bombed lilo and stitch i guess did well at the box office but you had a lot of people complaining about a lot of the changes and things like that
01:34:05
Speaker
not disney but how to train your dragon apparently is doing well and i i've heard good things about that one but it just kind of feels like you're gonna need this house of cards to come tumbling in the bubble to pop whatever metaphor you want to use for it in a way that'll make people realize like oh we need to step away from this I hope it happens soon because I i do crave new stuff. i I need something fresh. i I love the familiar. I love the cozy and the comfortable, and this is what I've always loved. I want more.
01:34:34
Speaker
But I'm also seeing a problem now where a lot of these reboots and remakes are making me start to dislike the things that I liked before. Like you'll have a franchise that you're a big fan of, and they're always making new content. It's great.
01:34:48
Speaker
But then it takes a creative direction change into a way that you don't like. And you kind of like, well, I guess I got to keep supporting this because it's a thing I like. I'm a fan of this. ah But I don't enjoy it. And then you start to kind of resent it. And eventually you're like, I just don't enjoy this anymore. And it's kind of sad when that happens, you know?
01:35:04
Speaker
Yeah, no, i I feel that. I think that. The way that remakes and remasters should go is that, like, I think, like, key big games should get, like, the odd remake remaster every once in a while. Like, back when, like, the Insane Trilogy for Crash Bandicoot was announced or Spyro's Reignited Trilogy, I think those were great uses of the remake remaster stuff because they're very old games, very iconic games, and bringing them to a modern perspective,
01:35:35
Speaker
ah while keeping the core of those games intact is a great thing. And that makes sense. and And another thing I'd like to see more of are just very basic remasters where it is just the original game, but basically remastered for for a modern engine. Because i i would I've never played Zelda Twilight Princess.
01:35:56
Speaker
I would love it if they did like a remaster on the Switch or or Switch 2, I guess, since we're moving on to that. But that's just that game. Oh yeah, just Twilight Princess. yeah a yes but just oh Yeah, like just just try yeah you don't you don't need to remake it. You don't need do anything. Just give me that game in a format that I can play it now on the console that I have or will have soon.
01:36:17
Speaker
Yeah, we're still waiting because we did technically get that with the Wii U with Twilight Princess HD and Wind Waker HD. where we got, it was essentially, everything was essentially the same. but um They added like one new section for the post game of Twilight Princess.
01:36:34
Speaker
That was like a, like a hundred floor dungeon that you could do like a challenge mode essentially. Now, was that the one though that they ah flipped everything horizontally? No. So that's the Wii version of the game.
01:36:45
Speaker
Oh, okay. The game came out on the GameCube first and then they realized, oh shit, Link's left-handed. Yeah, and so then when they did on the Wii and with all the motion controls... here's Here's another... Probably not a hot take. Probably an ice cold take. I'm not a fan of like forcing you to use motion controls. Neither am I. i think I think that games that do it great are Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.
01:37:12
Speaker
ah But then again, they're meant to be motion controlled. like thats That's the whole reason you're playing it. Games that like... don't require like games that you don't need like Twilight Princess is a great example because like oh the GameCube you don't need motion controls because you know they're not a thing yet so why force it in the Wii version and why not just give it a like the option to use a controller too instead of just forcing the Wii moat what ah for Twilight Princess. Like, yes, with Skyward Sword's release, it was meant to use motion control for that.
01:37:48
Speaker
But then when they put it on the Switch, they gave you the option to use the C-stick to control Link's sword instead. And that was a pretty... Well, even with Skyward Sword, which it was intended, as you said, it still is a struggle because sometimes motion controls would make the simplest thing so difficult. There's a part where, you know, every time you you do a dungeon, you complete it you gotta, like, point your sword straight up in the air. the Simplest thing in the world. like Yeah.
01:38:11
Speaker
simplest thing in the world on a on a d-pad you could just press up and it would be great with the motion controls i don't know if it was like this for everybody else we i take the we mode i'd hold it straight up and then i look at the screen and there's link's hand like glitching all over the place twitching like crazy unable to go straight up it's like dude i'm holding it still i'm holding it straight up please just do this why is this so difficult link please stop link please i just want to finish the dungeon Oh, ah no, i feel I feel that. Yeah. Still waiting. Nintendo legit. It's like one of three games that you still have on the Wii

Streaming Challenges and Content Creation

01:38:45
Speaker
Like, like give you I don't know if you do. I think it's only there's only five games that didn't get like ah like ah ah basically a replacement game on the Switch are still stuck on the Wii And two of them are the HD Zelda Twilight Princess and Wind Waker.
01:38:59
Speaker
I am excited the Wind Waker is now, or at least a version of it will be on the GameCube games for Nintendo Online. Yeah. So because that's another game that I've been wanting to play, but I just I can't.
01:39:12
Speaker
So looking forward to that now. I can play it anytime. I have a I still have my game. Well, I have a game view copy of Wind Waker and all the other i love games. I collect GameCube games, though. So that's my stick.
01:39:24
Speaker
I have like three fists of the collection. for north america it's a lot wow and impressive there's a lot there's a lot um is there anything else you want to add about uh remakes and remasters before we move on to our second topic no i think we can move on i've been yapping too much as it is i keep looking at the clock it's like this is going to be a long episode unless you trim it down feel free to just cut out like everything that i say if if it's too much that's okay all right let's move on to our second topic of the day Time travel is a weird phenomenon that only Michael J. Fox and those that play insert map game here experience.
01:40:01
Speaker
Need time to disappear? Don't worry. That new colony you establish needs a lot of work. Oh, a minor faction that should be easy to fight. This war should be really quick. Oh shit. Is that the sun?
01:40:15
Speaker
Map games. One minute, it's the early evening. The next minute, the sun has risen and you have three missed calls from your boss. And that we are talking about the some streaming. So behind the scenes of streaming, whether it comes to ah prep but the prep work, choosing games, all that all that little stuff that us streamers do. So I guess, Logan, I'll start with, like what does the prep work look like for you, ah well for your behind the scenes on your streams?
01:40:45
Speaker
It depends on how you want to look at the prep work. Like if you talk about just the immediate prep work, It's, ah oh man, my computer struggles so much sometimes because you got to launch all the different programs.
01:40:56
Speaker
I got to get, I got to get steam up, got to get OBS up, got to make sure that my camera is working properly. Everything's positioned. It's the type of thing that you would think would be like super easy and quick. You just click a few things, but every now and then my computer will just decide, Hey, Hey, yeah, you want to launch this game?
01:41:12
Speaker
I'm going to take 20 or 30 minutes to launch this game. oh And so I always have to like take about an hour beforehand to start getting everything ready. The worst, though, is if you have a big game, like one of the games I said I'm playing is Metaphor Re-Fantasia. That's like a large physically large game on my hard drive.
01:41:29
Speaker
And you'll go in like, all right, I'm going live in an hour. Let's pull up Steam. And there's an update. And it like won't let you launch the game until the update. And the update is like, this will take five hours to install.
01:41:42
Speaker
That I hate so much. so i I have resigned myself to the fact that pretty much every stream I do will start at least a few minutes late. But you got to launch all the programs. I got to go into Discord, let everyone know, hey, I'm going be streaming in just a few minutes. I got to go. I make a post on Twitter.
01:41:59
Speaker
I don't know why. I've got hardly any followers on there. I feel like Twitter is kind of pay to win these days ever since they introduced premium. Yeah. um But I got to do all the social media stuff that's announcing it. But there's also a lot of prep work that doesn't involve directly on the stream.
01:42:13
Speaker
Like I spend so much time pretty much every day editing videos to put up on TikTok and on YouTube shorts and things like that. And all of that social media, of course, is just a great big funnel directed toward the streams themselves. And so that's like part of the prep work as it is. I got to edit videos, got to upload and schedule all of them with some of the platforms like TikTok requires a freaking babysitter all the time because every now and then you'll go in there and like some video that you upload, it's like, we're just not showing this one to anybody for some reason. So then I'll delete it, re-upload it. Now we'll show it to people for some reason.
01:42:50
Speaker
And it's just, it's so much more work than it needs to be. i' am kind of jealous of big streamers simply for one fact alone is that when you get to have big streamers, there'll be people who will have all of their their viewers and fans will do all the clipping and editing and uploading videos of you on on their own, and you don't have to do any of that.
01:43:12
Speaker
Oh my gosh, if I could just have other people doing that, everything would be so much easier. And I'm sure there's probably like money for monetization and and perks to fame and sponsorships and yada, yada, yada. But really the nicest thing would just be having other people edit your videos for you. That's all I want. That is literally all I want. You know, I feel that one the most.
01:43:32
Speaker
Like, I'm grateful that two of my friends said, hey, I don't mind editing like a video for you here and there, because one of them actually does do some video editing. I'm like, great.
01:43:43
Speaker
Here's this one that I just haven't started yet. It's like a year old. Yeah. You have all the creative direction. Go do it. I don't know the status of where that one is, but I think it's almost done.
01:43:56
Speaker
I just put it. I put in a little incentive. Like, like hey, guys, to the two people that are working on a video for me right now, if you get it done before August, ah the end of August, I will get you guys like 80, like a triple A title worth game on Steam slash multiple indies that with multiple games like that equal that value.
01:44:17
Speaker
That's awesome of you. put it putting Putting it in like a little incentive because I'm it's specifically for my other editor um and TC. I'm calling you out right now, even though I know you don't listen to the podcast at all. So you're not even going to hear this message.
01:44:32
Speaker
I'm calling you out right now. Look, I get it. You have ADHD. We've talked about it so much. And I know that yeah We know how your brain works, but dude, come on, please. You had, you were the one who came up with the idea for that, that this video, you even had recorded it.
01:44:50
Speaker
Just edit it. Please just get it done. Please, please. And thank you. And thank you. And thank you. thank you so So that's my situation. Then I edit my own stuff too. Like I'm working on, i have two big videos. One that's in collaboration with my boy, but ah Ryan, where we reacted to all the karaoke songs. And that one's just taking time because Ryan has but the bigger editing portion of that because he's doing all the react stuff.
01:45:18
Speaker
I'm just doing the tier list stuff. So my final time is like, I did the rock cut of it and it's like 40 minutes. I'm sure that Ryan has like three two three hour video right there. So that one's still like, I can put that one off to the side for now.
01:45:31
Speaker
The other one that I did with my boy, Joe Java um recently, where we hunted all the heavensward mounts, in Final Fantasy XIV. um I'm probably going work on that one soon. Like I did some, i I had an idea for the intro and I got that done and I haven't gone back to edit, like do the rough cuts yet.
01:45:49
Speaker
So I need to do that and then do all the detailed edits. But yeah, it's so it's and it's a lot of work. a lot of work. Like even when it comes to like, and I'm going use this podcast as an example, ah because this is the first year that I've actually been consistent with making my highlights and getting them out at a reasonable pace.
01:46:13
Speaker
And dude, consistency is huge with this type of thing. It absolutely is. And I've actually seen results for that consistency because I would say this last batch of shorts that I've posted have all gotten over 800 views with like a decent amount of likes. And then like two of them really popped off getting like 1.8 2,000 views.
01:46:39
Speaker
and two thousand views Nice. Like, it's like crazy. Like the views, I'm like, awesome. We're getting views. Now I just want to, you guys just hope it reaches the right people to get the interactions.
01:46:51
Speaker
Because that's the other thing. Interactions are ah much harder to get. But like, that's the other thing. It's like, on the TikTok side, I seem to get more interactions than the YouTube side. And it's just, I...
01:47:03
Speaker
I hate playing the gate, this game of algorithms. I just want of, and hoping that like something will do both. but it's you you can never be too you can it's so difficult for smaller creators oh yeah like i will sometimes post something i'll post the same video on both tiktok and on youtube and the video will do amazing on one and and fine on the other yeah and you just can't predict it you can't it's it's so
01:47:35
Speaker
i i It's like when people say i' they miss old YouTube, we miss old YouTube when the algorithm wasn't shit. Yeah. The thing that gets me about modern YouTube algorithm is like, I will watch one video of something.
01:47:49
Speaker
Sometimes it's just because somebody like sent me a link. It's like, Hey, hey here's a weird thing to check out. It's like, okay. And then YouTube goes, well, this is, this is what you're all about now. This is what you are interested in. The only thing you care about now, I'm going to just show you that it's like, uh, you know, maybe take it in proportionate to the other types of stuff I watch, please. Yeah.
01:48:09
Speaker
No, absolutely. Like the second I started playing the Digimon games, i I start seeing so much more Digimon in my YouTube recommendations. I'm not mad, but god damn, that's a lot of Digimon stuff.
01:48:22
Speaker
but yeah But yeah, no, playing to the algorithm is a fun it's a fun thing that us smaller creators get to do. yeah the with that. um Now, when it comes to what games you play on stream, how do you decide ah but is it like is it primarily just like ah the games that you want to play or do you like take recommendations in the chat, community? whats What's the whole process with that?
01:48:46
Speaker
Well, here's the thing. I feel like this is one of the most important decisions that that at least I can make. i don't know, maybe streamers in general, because the way I see it there's kind of two levels of streamers. there There are the types of streamers that you tune into because you want to see the game they're playing and the type of streamers you tune into because you want to see that streamer. Yeah.
01:49:03
Speaker
And I feel like it's mostly the big ones that you just tune in. You want to see, like you're a fan of whomever Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, you know, one of the the litany of VTubers out there.
01:49:14
Speaker
Like you want to see that person stream. Who is what? What game is this person playing? That's neat, but you know maybe you'll be a little bit more or less excited about a game, but still, you are there for that person. With smaller streamers ah like myself, it's mainly for the game.
01:49:29
Speaker
I kind of learned this because when when my community first started taking off, it was back when i was playing the Danganronpa games. And while I was playing Danganronpa 2, which is my favorite in the series, it's great.
01:49:40
Speaker
ah My favorite character was Gundam Tanaka. So good. And i god one day... Oh, he's the best. He's the best. The overlord of ice. he ah While I was streaming one day, his voice actor, Chris Turgliafera, raided me.
01:49:56
Speaker
And it was kind of amazing. He just had a stream of about like 30 people or something like that. They raided in and ah and a bunch of the people that were watching him stuck around with me and that kind of jumpstarted my community, that one single raid. sick. That's awesome.
01:50:11
Speaker
and And so to be honest, like I owe him a lot. If I ever see him at a convention, I need to like go up to him and thank him profusely. and ah And so at that point, I started playing through the Danganronpa series, finished in 2, played Ultra Despair Girls, played V3.
01:50:26
Speaker
And then toward the end of it, I realized, crap, like all these people came in because they liked Danganronpa. And I'm almost out of Danganronpa games. And so what am I going to do? And I'm like, okay, well, I move on to the next game after that.
01:50:38
Speaker
And sure enough, some people left. And of course, you'd like say beforehand, it's like, you know hopefully you guys will stick around. They'll be, oh yeah, I'll stick around no matter what. And they do leave because they're not into Danganronpa. Some stuck around though.
01:50:49
Speaker
And some do like... do as they say, like, I'll watch you play whatever, but that happens. Yeah. And so I think choosing the game is the most important thing. Now, the reason why i say, no, I don't just pick whatever game I want to play, because I think there's also a big difference between what's a, you know, like, good games that I want to play and good games that I would stream well.
01:51:09
Speaker
Mm. because I think there are games that I enjoy playing that are good games that would be boring as crap to watch me play just based on how I play. yeah Whereas there are other games that I can stream well and be entertaining about.
01:51:22
Speaker
And that's why, like you mentioned, chat and community recommendations. I always leave that open. I've got a whole channel for that on my Discord and it's great. and you know, my community always recommends some really great games. And that's how i've discovered a lot of like AI, the Somnium files we were talking about before. I didn't know that one. It was from a recommendation.
01:51:39
Speaker
But I think a lot of the time you'll get a recommendation. It's like, I'm recommending this game to you because I like this game. It's like, okay, well, it's a great game. but nobody's going to want to watch me play it because I know how I play this genre of game. Like nobody would want to watch me play a fighting game, for example, but because i I enjoy them, but I would not do that well. And so I got to make sure that it's it's within my niche, my wheelhouse, which I play a lot of ah RPGs and a lot of visual novels. yeah And it's because that...
01:52:10
Speaker
kind of the attitude I take with it, especially with the visual novels, is that each stream is not just me sitting there playing a game. It's it's a performance. you You have an audience, and you are there to entertain them. And so if I'm playing an Ace Attorney game, you've got to have different voices for all the the different characters and everything like that. and And I ad lib and improvise lines in between stuff, come up with extra bits of dialogue and inside jokes. and Because my background outside of streaming is improv comedy.
01:52:35
Speaker
um i I do it every single weekend. I've been doing it for years and years. i ah it it That's just what I do. It is, sadly, the one skill I am good at in life is making crap up.
01:52:47
Speaker
Not really beneficial in the workplace, usually, but it's the one thing I'm good at. nice And so that's just what I do. It has to be a game that is in my wheelhouse, and then the real struggle is finding a game that enough people will just want to watch. Because sometimes they'll be like, this is a great game. This is the type of game I could stream well, but nobody gives a crap about this game. This game does not have a fan base. like Nobody is searching for this game on Twitch or on YouTube or anything like that.
01:53:14
Speaker
and ah And so, yeah, it's it's ah it's a challenge. You've got to go on Twitch. You've got to check... How many people are following this game? How many people stream this game? How many people are watching this game? Are there only a lot of people watching it because some big name streamer is in there right now today?
01:53:29
Speaker
And it' it's a challenge. And I'm having to deal with that coming up again because the two games I'm playing right now, Metaphor Re Fantasio, Ace Attorney Investigations 2, I'm like... relatively nearby completing both of them. And it's like, well, what game do I pick next? This is the most stressful thing.
01:53:46
Speaker
Some of the ones I'm looking at are Delta rune chapters three and four looking at date. Anything look at persona five strikers. trackrs is fun I play, I play through strikers. It's a fun one. It's a, it's like, um Oh God, what's the, it's like a warriors. It's the dynasty warriors dynasty warriors of a persona kind of, sort of. Yeah.
01:54:06
Speaker
But but that this is the thing that I feel is so important and that I stress out over the most is picking games. That's why I kind of like picking long games because then when I pick a long game, like when was playing Persona 5, I started that game on Groundhog Day of of that year and finished in...
01:54:23
Speaker
November. And so it took me that long to play it. It was like, so for most of this year, i don't have to worry about picking a game because I'm playing a long one. It's great. And like, I found that the same way too, with when it came to that is like, like, like I started like my first, the game I first streamed was fallout four.
01:54:40
Speaker
And I streamed it part of a series of like, I'm going to platinum this game. And I did. And I did the same for the first kingdom hearts, which was me just replaying the game to platinum it. And,
01:54:51
Speaker
And then it was after that. And then I'm like, you know what? Let's play Danganronpa. And we played through it and then we platinumed it. and But then that started like this like this whole saga for the Danganronpa where it's like, well, we know we're going to play all of them.
01:55:04
Speaker
And then that led to the Somnium Files saga. And then... Master Duel, Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel came out, and I'm i'm a big Yu-Gi-Oh! guy. I like Yu-Gi-Oh!
01:55:15
Speaker
And I got into this Master Duel saga, and I built... it was it was It's like, with each game, it's like, I would see these new people, these new faces, they would stick around, they would chat, duel all this stuff, and then it's like, I'm burnt out because the meta just... review With a card game like that, if you don't have a great... If you're not...
01:55:36
Speaker
If you're not good with a meta, it's hard to stick around. And the meta was just getting bad. well and i And I love Yu-Gi-Oh!, at least classic Yu-Gi-Oh!, I feel like any time I try to look into it now, the the modern incarnation of it the modern version, whatever of it, has like a lot of extra weird rules that I just do not understand currently. little Pendulum Summon.
01:55:57
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. But I feel like there are certain games like Yu-Gi-Oh type of games that I personally wouldn't stream simply because there are games that if you're going to stream, you kind of need to be good at games.
01:56:11
Speaker
You need to either good at it or be funny enough, I think. Yeah. Or entertaining enough to like counteract your madness. And if it's a story-based game, yeah, if if it's a story-based game, especially, you can be funny or...
01:56:23
Speaker
Or, okay, not just story-based game, because like I remember, crap, what's the guy's name? think it Gray something, who streams ah those games where you're like on a bicycle and you're riding through stuff and it's like and it's tearing you apart and killing you. I'm not describing this well at all.
01:56:38
Speaker
But it's like short little things. That sounds interesting. But it's like short little things and and you can be funny about it. But I feel like if it's a game like Yu-Gi-Oh! where you're basically repeating the same thing over and over again, like you're doing a match, you're doing a match, you you need to have like some skill at it. And I'm going to be honest, when I play games, I'm just, you know, I'm i'm skating off the fact that I can make up crap and and do jokes and things like that. As soon as I need to be good at the game, um that's where things start to fall apart. Also, were you referencing Happy Wheels?
01:57:09
Speaker
the bicycle game like i think it might be happy wheels i'm like because i was like bicycle tearing apart happy wheels let me check happy wheels yes yes yes wow yes
01:57:20
Speaker
Yes, that's it. I remember seeing like, ah for some reason, I like, and it's again, talking about the algorithm. I watched through one video of a guy doing it on on TikTok and was like, oh, that's good. I'll click a like. And then TikTok is like, all right, we're going show you like 20 videos of this now. yeah Yeah, I love that. yeah though i get Yeah, when it comes with like picking games, i like a part of me,
01:57:41
Speaker
Like I primarily play as like you, I primarily play RPGs and visual novels a little less on the visual novel side ever since February, where I sadly when we were because we were in the last Ace Attorney game, but which for me, my last Ace Attorney game was Investigations 2.
01:57:59
Speaker
We had done. Okay, so said yeah, obviously, no, don't give me any spoilers because I'm still on the final case of that one. ah We were in chapter one. We did the whole first chapter in ah in a night. maybe bad decision on my part.
01:58:11
Speaker
Yeah. Bad decision on my part because, you know, i' like you, I gave, I do voices. I did voices for every other Ace Attorney leading up to that point. And basically it did like a whole, almost a whole year of like the late latter three, the, the Apollo justice Ace Attorney games, because I had played the the first trilogy, like the year prior. And like, we were done like with that, like after like half the year went through.
01:58:34
Speaker
ah and the Apollo Justice trilogy took me much longer to do. I don't know why. I think it was like I had to take a break for it a little bit. Regardless, and oh like no it took that longer because like a immediately after Apollo Justice was done, we went to the great Ace Attorney Chronicles.
01:58:50
Speaker
I still haven't played those games. That's that's another game that like I'm considering playing next, but I hear that they are they are the two of them are very long. theyre They are long, um but I would say they're honestly like the best Ace Attorney games of all time.
01:59:02
Speaker
Yeah, I'm looking forward to playing them. As I said, it's it it's coming up one of these days. yeah Maybe soon, and maybe not. ah But like then after that, Investigations was out. And so we're like, well, we just do Investigations right after. So we did Investigations 1, get into Investigations 2, and right as we finish that, i catch a I get a sore throat.
01:59:21
Speaker
It also catches this bug at the same time. gosh, that the worst. That took my voice out of commission for a month. I'm the type of person, I usually will get sick like once a year. In the last six months, I have gotten sick four times.
01:59:35
Speaker
And I don't know if like my immune system got weakened. It started back in around Thanksgiving. I caught for the first time ever for me, I went so many years without it, I got COVID on Thanksgiving. ah and And that, of course, is like, it's a thing in the lungs. It affected my voice and everything like that.
01:59:51
Speaker
And so then I had COVID. And then about a month or two later, i got sick again. again and then I caught a cold in April and then a month later in May I caught a cold and it was all chest colds throat colds affecting my voice and so yeah some of it's it's hard to do especially if you're doing the voices because like when I do Ace Attorney I love doing the the judge and doing this kind of old-timey prospector sort of a voice and it's hard to do when your voice is all scratchy and messed up so I feel you on that yeah my judge voice I liked my judge voice I miss my judge voice what's what's your judge voice
02:00:24
Speaker
Oh, God. Phoenix Wright, why are you cross-examining a parrot? I love it. I love it. That's my favorite one. Oh, the judge is amazing. Mine is just kind of like, oh, all right, we're here to see Phoenix Wright.
02:00:40
Speaker
You're bringing in a parrot. Oh, you better not bring in it like a killer whale to mix or something like that. Prosecutor Edgeworth, Phoenix Wright, why don't the two of you just kiss? You know you've been waiting to. just Just go at it right here. The first, like, I remember with ah with ah Spirit of Justice,
02:01:00
Speaker
That's the sixth one, right? Yeah. um when When we had to bring in the new judge, the... The one in in the other country. Yeah, the one in Karain. Karain?
02:01:12
Speaker
Whatever it I always say Karain. I've heard other people say Karain or something like that. i just went with Karain. I'm like, oh, I got to give this guy a different voice. I'm a little bit deeper. room We're a grumpy girl. Because that's what he looked like. He looked like a grump character.
02:01:27
Speaker
but He did. I, I ended up giving him the same voice just cause I wanted to stay consistent. I did give, that you remember there was that one, ah brief bit where you had a different old Canadian judge. Oh, so for him, I gave him a Canadian accent. Oh yeah, prosecutor Francisco von Karma. Why don't you go over here and just bring the witness up here. No one gets a beaver out there. Hey, go, go ah across the camera. Beaver. Why don't you, you see what, when they said he was Canadian, I'm like, Oh, I was bored for this role.
02:01:56
Speaker
are you oh yeah because you're Canadian you mentioned Canadian dollars earlier oh I hope I didn't offend your your heritage with my my bad attempt at a Canadian accent oh no it's great no it's ah we just call that a I believe it's a more sad like ah a rural Sask accent or is is Sask short for Saskatchewan yes See, i know i know Canadian provinces. Let's go.
02:02:22
Speaker
but we we we we love our Canadian provinces. Just be glad I didn't give them like a Quebecois accent. Oh yeah, i know. I am part of Western Canada. We hate we yeah hate the French here.
02:02:33
Speaker
ah We always will. um it's It's how things are. But yeah, I loved Ace Attorney. It was like one of the best games I played. I only played it because these are perfect games I can stream because I can be entertaining, experience it for the first time. Oh, they great streaming games. Stuff where you're able to give voices to characters, even though I'm kind of steering away from that little bit now because I don't want another February to happen me.
02:03:02
Speaker
um and like And unfortunately because of that, I did not finish Investigations 2 on stream. I played it in my own time. I told the community, hey guys, look, i I can't, like this took me out. I'm going, I don't want to risk it again.
02:03:17
Speaker
So I'm just going to end Ace Attorney here. Unfortunately, um playthrough Investigations 2, the game is great. It was great. I loved it. I'm like, damn, that is like my third favorite Ace Attorney game now of all time.
02:03:31
Speaker
I'm enjoying it right now. I'm literally at the point. The last stream we had of it was on Sunday, and my next stream is tomorrow. And we we ended where it looks like Lang is finally going to explain what the heck happened 12 years ago that we've been talking about.
02:03:44
Speaker
Everyone's like, this was 12 years ago, 12 years ago, 12 years ago. Like every Ace Attorney always has to Yeah Every Ace Attorney has to have What happened seven years ago Or 18 years ago or whatever Yeah um I think my favorite might be For for the longest time It was Investigations 1 But I kind of loved Bobby Fulbright In Dual Destinies And so Dual Destinies is up there Bobby Fulbright Bobby Fulbright here. In justice we trust. I love that guy. sweet He didn't. he he's He's. I gave him a bit of a crock accent when I fucking voiced him. ah I wish I could do a real good Patrick Warburton impression. That'd be so good. Hey, Peter, I can't.
02:04:24
Speaker
My best impression my biggest impression, and it's slowly, it's what my Winston Payne turned into. I can do a decent Dr. Doofus impression.
02:04:34
Speaker
Ooh, nice. And slowly as the games went on, the Payne brothers just became Doofus Berts.
02:04:43
Speaker
For some reason for me, the the Winston Payne and Gaspin Payne were Droopy the dog. Are you familiar with that cartoon character? yes, I am. So just, yo, Phoenix, right why don't you just get over there? Get to the witness up on the stand. little bit too That's a good one for the Payne brothers, actually.
02:04:59
Speaker
No, that's really good. Like, I would not have thought of that. Like, the ones that I always had the most trouble with, and again, it's because my voice is so deep. are like where a lot of the and the female characters.
02:05:10
Speaker
like Oh, those are always the hardest. I don't even try to get them like believable or anything. The voice I do for Maya Faye is quite possibly the worst voice a human being has ever made. And so i I don't know why people don't like immediately tune out of the stream anytime she talks.
02:05:26
Speaker
but But i I love doing it. I've had some people like compare it to... um ah Oh crap, why am I spacing his name? from From Jimmy Neutron. Jimmy Neutron?
02:05:37
Speaker
No, no, not Gene. Carl Weiser, yeah. yeah It's not intentionally like that, but some people have said it sounds a little bit like, I don't hear it as much. But for my FAA, it's just like, all right, Nick, let's head over there and investigate what's happening here.
02:05:52
Speaker
and so That is so Carl Codan. Oh my God. It's like a little bit entirely unintentional, but it is grating and annoying. And I don't know why anyone would ever listen to it, but yeah it is what it is. ah Okay. I have one more Ace Attorney related question for you before we should get back on topic a little bit.
02:06:11
Speaker
oh Oh, yeah. We still got like... Are you hoping that in tomorrow's Capcom presentation, they announce something new with Ace Attorney? I didn't even know there was a Capcom presentation tomorrow. I ah i would hope yes. However, I would say what I hope more than that, I want a Mega Man Legends game.
02:06:31
Speaker
that is like the i or Or at least like bring port them to modern consoles. Please, please, Capcom. They just did it with the the network once. So yeah, I think they should. I know, so yeah, do it with Mega Man Legends, please.
02:06:42
Speaker
No, I would love it. um It feels like there's been a bit of a ah bit more attention given to them recently with with the release of the Apollo Justice trilogy, the Investigations ah collection, and things like that. I'd love to see another one.
02:06:56
Speaker
um So yeah, I'd be excited about that. All right. Cool. Yeah. Yeah. I guess sorry that's a pretty basic answer. Would you be excited? Yes, I would. Perfect. Yes, I would be excited about that. Back to the main topic. ah Would you would with being a streamer and all the programs you had to use now, would you say you become more tech savvy because of this or less tech savvy?
02:07:20
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, i've I've gotten kind of better at using some of the programs, but I'm also just blown away by what some people are able to do with, like, OBS. um I should have looked up before we started, but there's, like, this person I follow on TikTok โ€“ or, no, excuse on TikTok, over on Twitter โ€“ um that just is always posting stuff like, here, here's what I did in OBS to make it like so, like like one of the things like so that I was locked in a car all day and and chat is is like making fun of me and and it cuts out to them and and changing the music on the radio. It's all like simulate. It's not really a car or whatever.
02:07:55
Speaker
And this isn't describing it very well. I apologize. But I i feel like I'm tech savvy enough to get by. But then I see the type of really crazy elaborate stuff that some people do on stream.
02:08:07
Speaker
And I'm like, holy cow, i am I am like using just a fraction of what these programs are capable of doing. It's crazy what some of the stuff can. I see this one guy on TikTok who's like, I modded my Skyrim where chat will appear and so well where chat can make the NPC say anything.
02:08:27
Speaker
I'm like, what do you mean? and he like The people are saying what the chat's saying. I'm like, oh my god, that's nuts. That's fantastic. I love that. i I wish I knew how to do that, but then I also dread how much extra work on top of what I already do that would require. like the people there people like If you know how to use OBS, you probably don't know how to use OBS to what these people are doing. It's so nuts.
02:08:53
Speaker
I'm just like i that like, that looks cool, but that seems like a lot of work. I'm happy with what I've got. Love now. Yeah. um Is there anything else you want to add before we move into the bonus level? Because we we we talked a lot.
02:09:09
Speaker
well Yeah, we're going over time. We're going a little over time, but that's fine. But is there anything else you want add?

Bonus Level and Gaming History

02:09:15
Speaker
Now you're in the driver's seat. If we need to move forward, you can move forward. All right. Well, I say we move forward and moving forward means we're moving into the bonus level. Crazy lists, great deals, and recapping gaming history. It's all here in the bonus level.
02:09:30
Speaker
And to kick it off. Well, we talked to a lot of Ace Attorney and that's what this team's game clash is. yeah Logan, I've got eight. prosecutors here who are ready to duke it out to find out who's the best prosecutor of them all and you now like are the deciding factor for all of these matches well we got to define what you mean by best prosecutor do you mean is actually best at prosecuting is the best character or would defeat the other person in a fight you know what all of the above um all of the above we've got mostly based on you it could be however you wanted to find it you are the one who gets to decide it i've got essentially every all the main prosecutors uh except for if they were in the great ace attorney because you have not played those ones yet right appreciate that so uh we've got uh eight here you're going to decide who wins who loses and who will be the grand champion are you ready
02:10:26
Speaker
I'm ready. All right. We're starting off match one. We got Edgeworth, Miles Edgeworth versus Nayuda Sadmati. gotta give this one to edgeworth i mean it's the basic choice but uh he's a great character had a great character arc now youda is fun as well but there's also my gosh in spirit of justice there was so much of all right we're we're back uh from overseas we're hanging out with apollo and athena now and now youda is here for reasons how what does that do try this is travel plan how many air miles does this man have
02:10:57
Speaker
Yeah, there was a little bit too much of that going on. And Nayuda was fine and everything, but I think in know in a world with as many colorful prosecutors as you have, he is like slightly more forgettable than some of the other ones. He is a great character, but I think Edgeworth is just, he's a lot more more iconic. His character arc is a lot more memorable.
02:11:19
Speaker
Nayuda's great. i'm not I'm not bashing him, but I'm giving this to Edgeworth. All right, match two, Godot versus Clavier Gavin. Gotta give this one to Godot as well. I mean, Clavier is... ah he's He's good, but he you never... you never feel like he's a bad guy, really, to be totally honest. it i mean I mean, that's a big reason why, like, of the three may of the three Apollo games, he is my favorite prosecutor of the three.
02:11:49
Speaker
um Just because he's like, he's never, likes a like, comes across as a bad guy. He's just a rocker. He wants rock and roll, baby. and And most of the prosecutors, you do end up, as you get to know them, find out that a lot of them are good people and stuff.
02:12:02
Speaker
But, i I mean, no, he's he's never like a bad guy. And maybe it's just because he's always so friendly and charming. And what was it that Emma Sky always calls him? He's a glimmerous fop or something like that. yeah um but But Godot, I mean, he he was mean. He had a grudge. He had a love of he had some darkness to him.
02:12:22
Speaker
Just like his coffee. And he edges like his coffee. Bitter and dark. and ah And he's a tragic character as well. And so, yeah, I got to give it to Godot. All right. Match three. It's a battle of the Von Karmas.
02:12:35
Speaker
Manfred versus Franziska. this is a challenge because I feel like. I feel like Franziska has had a lot more time to kind of be fleshed out as a character.
02:12:47
Speaker
um i am loving seeing her in Investigations 2 where you start to realize like, oh, she has a real soft spot for like Kay Faraday and and even for Eustace Winter. Yeah. but But Von Karma is like Manfred Von Karma is such a great villain. Like you end up hating this guy.
02:13:07
Speaker
um So I think I got to give it to Manfred. Okay. In the fourth match, Simon Blackquill versus either of the Pain brothers, really. Take your poison. My gut instinct, I want so badly to give it to to one of the Pains because they're such ridiculous, stupid characters.
02:13:32
Speaker
um I love like the changing hairstyles and everything like that. But of course, of course, it's going to go to Simon Blackwell. i He's another great character, had a great arc in Dual Destinies.
02:13:44
Speaker
I liked his return in Spirit of Justice. Oh my God, that is my favorite case in Spirit of Justice. Oh, it's such a good case. I love that you had a couple of cases in Spirit of Justice that, well, here's the thing. and As much as I enjoyed Apollo Justice, Dual Destinies, and Spirit of Justice, I feel like those games became a little bit bogged down in having the overarching story be a little bit too important to every single case.
02:14:08
Speaker
to an extent. And so I liked the Spirit of Justice. You had a couple of cases that they were thematically relevant to what was going on and had like interesting parallels, but were more or less standalone cases.
02:14:19
Speaker
And the magical turnabout was phenomenal. Such great characters. I love ah ah the Defame sisters. I loved having Simon Blackwell on the stand with you. I loved the relationship he had with Athena Sykes. It was such a good case.
02:14:33
Speaker
Yes. And also he gave me one of my favorite insults that I've heard in the entire Ace Attorney series, which was calling someone a fop doodle. So got to give the points to Blackwell. Listeners, Tony has stepped away into the washroom.
02:14:46
Speaker
It's just you and me here now. And we're going talking about Ace Attorney. Ace Attorney is a game set in a universe where people don't have constitutional rights.
02:14:56
Speaker
There is no presumption of innocence. And all the lawyers are so gay for each other. Seriously. They have to channel all of their sexual tension into shouting objection and trying to get people executed for horrible crimes.
02:15:16
Speaker
Amid all this, you have the judge. Judge Udji. A magnificent beast of a man with a shiny bald head and a glorious beard.
02:15:28
Speaker
What's behind that beard? Is there a chin? Yes, there's a chin. What's wrong with you? Why would you even question that? But how big is that chin? Well, I gotta to tell you something.
02:15:40
Speaker
Listener, it's not the size of your chin that matters. Oh, and we're back. We're back. All right, moving on to our semifinals. We got Edgy Boy versus Godot.
02:15:53
Speaker
This is where it gets difficult. It does. ah i just, I have, I have very strong affection toward Edgeworth just because, and he kind of has an unfair advantage because he has been in so many games. Like essentially and i've all but one, I think. Yeah.
02:16:07
Speaker
And I've loved seeing his character growth throughout these games as well.
02:16:13
Speaker
Ugh. good dough. I got to give it to Edgeworth. I'm sorry. They're both great, but this one is hard. This one is really difficult. i We're giving it to Edgeworth. That's why we call it the game clash. All right.
02:16:27
Speaker
Last semifinals, Manfred von Karma, Simon Blackwell. ah I think I'm going to give this one to Blackwell. ah Von Karma is is a great villain, as I said.
02:16:40
Speaker
And but but Blackwell also, I think, is just a stronger character overall. um Black, you know, both of them have actually appeared in multiple games. Come to. Well, I guess a lot of these have even even Clavier appeared in. I didn't have one thing in common.
02:16:57
Speaker
They both had to deal with a defense attorney who cross examined an animal. That is true. I freaking loved that Orla the Orca. That was a good that was a great bonus case, honestly.
02:17:10
Speaker
I spent like so much of the case like, oh, please, I just want to cross-examine a whale, and the game did not disappoint. And plus, after the events of the the final case in the series, we still got to hang out with with Fulbright. And so, hey, injustice we trust, bro.
02:17:22
Speaker
going to give this to Gotta give this to Blackwell. All right. We move on to the grand finals, Edgeworth versus Simon. Mmmmm. I think people aren't going to like this because he's such a ah basic choice, but I got to give it to Edgeworth.
02:17:37
Speaker
I'm sorry. Blackwell's great, but I think Edgeworth takes this. yeah Edgeworth is, I mean, yeah, no, it's absolutely absolutely like, I think nine out of 10 times Edgeworth sweeps the prosecutors.
02:17:50
Speaker
um is it is it is Is it because of ah how his longevity, how he plays like character, counter to Phoenix throughout everything? Yeah, a little bit. Is it also because he gets two of his own games himself? Possibly. i yeah That does give him an unfair advantage.
02:18:07
Speaker
I also just love how that in ah with Phoenix Wright and all of his friends and and children and things like that, they have freaking superpowers. Yeah. Phoenix Wright can see psyche locks to tell when people are lying.
02:18:20
Speaker
Apollo Justice has like incredible eyesight. Athena Sykes has this weird thing to like sense people's emotions. And... And Edgeworth, he's got logic and he likes to play chess? question my I mean, like when you do mind chess, that's not really chess, but he calls it chess. Yeah, that was the whole of like, wow, we've never really talked about chess the entire franchise.
02:18:43
Speaker
And now all of a sudden it is the only thing Miles loves us to do. and Well, that and collect steel samurai figures. Oh, yes, that too. Yes. And of course, if it smells, it's probably it's probably the butt. Oh my gosh, I hate Larry. I hate Larry so much. Ever since he freaking hit on Pearl in Trials and Tribulations, she was, hey, Larry, you monster. Larry, no. I'm hoping that we get an Apollo Justice, that the anime does a season for the Apollo Justice games.
02:19:17
Speaker
I hope I think that'd be cool. I want it to happen because the first. Have you watched the Apollo just the the Ace Attorney anime at all? I haven't. I've been meaning to check him out. I hear that when they shout objection, they're like magical gusts of wind or something. Yeah, it's pretty cool um because ah the second season is just the third game. They do some filler arcs in the filler arc is pretty. There's a filler trial.
02:19:41
Speaker
It's a pretty neat case. ah Definitely would recommend. All right, that is our game clash. Congratulations to Miles Edgeworth. We're moving on to this week in gaming history. Here's some stuff that happened in the past from June 30th to July 13th.
02:19:56
Speaker
Starting with some major events, July 3rd, 1999 in Wears Beach, New Hampshire. Over six hours, Billy Mitchell plays a perfect game of Pac-Man, achieving the highest score that the game allows, 3,333,360.
02:20:11
Speaker
three billion three hundred thirty three thousand three hundred and six This can only be accomplished by guiding Pac-Man to every thought, fruit, and ghost in all 256 levels so without dying.
02:20:24
Speaker
And don't forget Billy Mitchell. It is officially on court record that he is in fact not a giant floating head. What? Are you not you're not familiar with this? I'm not familiar with that, no.
02:20:36
Speaker
yeah You ever watch regular show? Oh my God. Is this is that he a cameo in regular show? by There's, there's a character in regular show. There's a villain in one episode that is like pretty obviously based on Billy Mitchell, but he's like, ah he's a giant floating head. Okay.
02:20:52
Speaker
And Billy Mitchell hated it and he sued them and took him to court and it was either dismissed or lost or whatever. And the reason why is because that Billy Mitchell is not a giant floating head. Oh my God. That's hilarious. Yes.
02:21:08
Speaker
That guy, man. Because you've seen King of Kong, right? i No, I haven't. You haven't? Oh my gosh. I'm pretty sure I've seen bits and pieces because that's about the Donkey Kong high score. Yes. It's the Donkey Kong high score. Billy Mitchell, he's because of that movie, although he's a real person, just one of the greatest cinematic villains.
02:21:27
Speaker
He is so... And of course, it i mean it's a documentary and of course, I'm i'm sure they they edit it in a way to try and make it more dramatic. Maybe he's not quite he's not quite as as awful as the movie portrays i'll give a bit of benefit of the doubt there but he's pretty despicable in that movie good to know i need to watch either there's so there's so many movies i need to watch and catch up on like i i barely watch movies nowadays i'm too busy playing games ah July 8th 2007 at E3 Nintendo announced the Wii Zapper a white plastic a white plastic casing that holds the Wii remote and nunchuck it releases ah for 20 bucks um the upcoming Mario Kart video game for the Nintendo Wii will be coming with the Wii Wheel and the upcoming Wii Fit title will include a new balance board controller that senses your weight and center of gravity
02:22:24
Speaker
Doesn't the Wii Fit stuff also detect if you're having a heart attack? Yes, it does. Yeah, it's messed up. I mean, it's useful, but that's like freaky. The Ring Fit, when you're playing Ring Fit on the Switch, that can also sense when you're having a heart attack.
02:22:37
Speaker
Oof. Oof. Thank you, Nintendo. Yeah, thanks, Nintendo, for having that implemented, even though nobody probably thought to implement that ever. But cool. Thank you. As for some gay birthdays here, get ready to feel old, folks. On ah June 30th, Grand Theft Auto, the first Grand Theft Auto, turns 27.
02:22:55
Speaker
On July 1st, Pokemon Snap turns 26. On July 5th, Psychonauts turns 20. On July 9th, Tron, like the arcade cabinet Tron, turns 43. On July 10th, Sonic Championship, which was an arcade cabinet game, turns 29.
02:23:14
Speaker
And on July 13th, Tales of Symphonia turns 21. Happy birthday, games. Happy birthday, games.

Game Polls and Sales

02:23:21
Speaker
um Moving on to Tony's game poll. Logan here. It was a poll that we do every season.
02:23:26
Speaker
This year's poll, this season's poll. What franchise deserves a new game in 2025 slash 2026 that not been announced yet? that has not been announced yet i I think I got to always go with my default. I mentioned this before when we're talking about Capcom. I want a new Mega Man Legends game.
02:23:42
Speaker
I also wouldn't mind, like just for the sake of streaming, a new Ace Attorney or Danganronpa game. um And although it's not necessarily an entire new game, i every like month for the last ages, i've been I've been looking online, hoping for an announcement of the final part of Your Turn to Die death game by majority to finally release. But it's such a good game.
02:24:04
Speaker
but I'll go with Mega Man Legends. All right. That's solid choice. That's a solid choice. Hey, your deals of the week that are coming up, starting with your Epic free game. Sable is free until July 3rd.
02:24:15
Speaker
ah So be sure to grab that before that goes away. ah you're As for Epic game sales, the Epic savings sale is on until July 3rd as well. For your Steam sales, it's the Steam summer sale. That's on until July tenth And there are so many things discounted um So be sure to grab stuff that's on your wishlist that you want to grab.
02:24:38
Speaker
um For PlayStation sales, no actual sales going on currently, but they did announce the free games for July for PS Plus users. Diablo 4, King of Fighters 15, and Justine are going your free games. um So a little bit of everything. Justine, I'm going to trying that one out. That is that climbing game that came out last year.
02:25:02
Speaker
feel like there's been a lot of climbing games recently. There's one that's coming out upcoming that's coming out that i can't remember what called. And then Peak just came out ah for multiplayer climbing. And Peak is a lot of fun. i' ah i It looks like a lot of fun. We just made it to the top as a group of three. One of them died in the volcano.
02:25:22
Speaker
Me and my boy Mello made it to the top, um which was pretty cool. ah Very fun. Very fun game. And then no Nintendo sales because Nintendo doesn't actually have like set sales. It's just like, Oh, this is on sale now.
02:25:35
Speaker
Uh, but if they ever do have a set sale, I will let you know. Uh, the achievement of the week is rematch. It's marathon runner, which is to run 42,195 kilometers. Your game of the week is Tony Hawk's pro skater three and four. And Logan, if there was a game old or new that you would recommend to the audience at this moment in time, what game would that be?
02:25:56
Speaker
ah you know what a game I'd recommend you guys play, uh, I've mentioned before, I've been streaming Metaphor Re-Fantasio. I love it. It's from the makers of Persona. It doesn't seem to be getting quite as much attention on on Twitch as the Persona games, though.
02:26:10
Speaker
And it deserves it. It is so good. i would just love to see more people checking this game out. So again, that's Metaphor Re-Fantasio. It's got great reviews, got all these awards. I just want to see like more people into it, more people...
02:26:23
Speaker
making fan art of it and enjoying it online, talking about it. So um it's such a good game. So yeah, metaphor refund Tazio. If you haven't already, I'm sure a lot of you already have, but check it out. It's a great game. Yep.
02:26:34
Speaker
And also there is a trophy tied to the final area where you gotta do. If you do specific things that unlocks like a hidden phase of the final boss, I won't tell you what they are. Cause yeah,
02:26:47
Speaker
if you want to do it yourself, you can. Uh, but also the platinum trophy does require two playthroughs folks, because there is boss that is locked behind new game. Plus boo.
02:26:59
Speaker
Uh, and with that, take back that recommendation. How dare you require new game? No, I, I don't platinum games. It's fine. It's fine. All right. Well, with that, that's going to do it for this week's
