Welcome back to Growing With Sol! 🌱 In this episode, we’re diving into three powerful goal-setting strategies to help you stay consistent and achieve success in 2025.

Setting goals is one thing... sticking to them is another. The key to boosting self-esteem and confidence is keeping the promises you make to yourself. But how do we actually follow through?

Let’s talk about habit stacking, time blocking, and progress journaling, three practical approaches to goal setting that align with your lifestyle and natural rhythms.

Here’s what we explore in this episode:

  1. Habit Stacking – Build new habits by pairing them with existing routines. Small, sustainable changes lead to big results.
  2. Time Blocking – Protect your time by scheduling dedicated blocks for your goals. Learn how to create a system that works for you.
  3. Progress Journaling – Track your journey, celebrate your wins, and reflect on obstacles to stay motivated.

No pressure, no perfection, just progress. You don’t need to change everything overnight. Focus on one thing at a time, build consistency, and step into your best self this year.

This year is YOURS, let’s make it amazing ✨

Introduction to Goal Setting for 2025

00:00:04
Speaker
Hello beautiful souls and welcome back to another installment of Growing with Soul. My name is Marisol Moran and I'm a certified life coach specializing in self-esteem and confidence. Today we're going to be talking about how to essentially set goals for 2025.
00:00:20
Speaker
and essentially the strategies that you can implement in order to better reach the goals that you do set for yourself because we're definitely at that time of year where we are making promises to ourselves and if there is one thing to be said about self-esteem and confidence one way of ensuring that you have a high self-esteem and confidence is by keeping the promises that you make to yourself big or small and bring that time of year where we're making lots of them to ourselves because we As a people, take the new year as a time to reinvent ourselves, which as we should. I think it's a great time to start that. So what can we do to make sure we stick to the goals that we are setting? Let's get into it.

Aligning Goals with Lifestyle

00:01:04
Speaker
As I alluded to in the previous episode, goal setting should align with who you are. It should align with your lifestyle and it should align with your values and your natural rhythms. So if you're the type of person who can handle a larger plate full of tasks and stress and what have you, then maybe you could have multiple goals that you're working on at the same time.
00:01:31
Speaker
if you're the type of person that can't handle that, just like me, start small. So you want to start small, build consistency, and do that to gain momentum before you start taking on bigger challenges. And quite frankly, you can even break down those bigger challenges into smaller steps. You know, you can break them down into smaller chunks, which is what I prefer to do. And before you know it, you've achieved something big. So what are some three ways to go about essentially doing this?

Building Consistency through Habit Stacking

00:02:02
Speaker
The first one is habit stacking. So essentially putting something new with something old and pretty much entrenched into your routine. So you want to start small, make manageable changes. So this will allow you to build a moment gradually, like I mentioned previously, because you're going to choose one specific thing and nestle it right in between with something that you already do.
00:02:31
Speaker
And that will allow you to be consistent. And the thing with this is that we are looking for consistency over perfection. So if you end up missing a day or missing two days, it's okay. It's not the end of the world. You're going to remember that it's supposed to be nestled with this other habit that you already have.
00:02:52
Speaker
Therefore you'll be able to get back on track. So for example, I have more or less a habit of drinking at least 16 ounces of water in the morning before I consume anything else. I wanted to start taking some supplements essentially in the morning to get me back on track. I take a immune supplement and then also probiotics.
00:03:20
Speaker
I have had a hard time being consistent with my supplements so what I decided to do is that one verify that these are supplements that I don't have to eat with food and then from there I just told myself I'm going to take these supplements in the morning with my water every day. It's the first thing I do. I also put the supplements right by my coffee maker so I can't forget them because I see them right next to my coffee every freaking morning. So, habit stacking, water supplements, coffee, all in the same area. I can't miss them. And I have been taking in my supplements very consistently over the last month and I'm actually at the point where I i need to buy some some new ones. I need to restock.
00:04:03
Speaker
So it can look like that. It can look like allotting time to work towards your goal, maybe in the morning or in your evening routine. You know what your routine looks like. You know what you can fit into that routine, what you can add, maybe what you can take away that isn't serving you anymore, that can be replaced with something that will serve you.
00:04:22
Speaker
Again, maybe this can be like going to the gym right after work. So you're just adding a stop to your commute. If you're usually commute from work to home, go straight to the gym for us. If you know that if once you go home, you're not going to leave again because you're not going to go to the gym. You know, i'm I've been there. I'm still there. I get it.

Time Blocking for Focus

00:04:42
Speaker
The second strategy that you can use is time blocking. This one can be a little tricky to use at first. I definitely have struggled with it, but it is so useful ah once you figure out how to make it work for you. So you can dedicate specific time blocks to your goal. And I really, if you're going to use this, I highly suggest that you use this for everything that you do within your schedule, within your calendar. Create time blocks for everything. You want to create a visual schedule. So whether that's going to be maybe like your Google calendar, or if you have a physical agenda or planner that you're using for the year.
00:05:23
Speaker
you wanna put chunks of time dedicated for a specific task like task out in your calendar in your planner so i would suggest weekly like figure out what you want to dedicate your time to for the week ahead of time and then even like nightly like hey what's tomorrow supposed to look like what did I get done today then what can I get done tomorrow and then write it out like dedicate specific hour two hours 30 minutes whatever two specific tasks
00:05:55
Speaker
That can definitely help you keep moving along with your goals and making sure that you are dedicating that amount of time to whatever it is that you're looking to achieve. So that can look like I mentioned before, blocking out time on your Google calendar, Google calendar, iCalendar, whatever it is, and mark it as busy. So if you are using a digital calendar like Google or iCalendar, then nobody can take that time away and request a meeting or what have you.
00:06:24
Speaker
Like, you're busy, you're booked, you're doing something great. And additionally, I've tried to use a digital planner this last year. And it was useful because it came with so many things. I was like, oh, like, this is great. Like, I can like use all this stuff. But there's something to be said about a physical planner where you like write things down and you mark them off and you color them in and like You just write. I don't know. Let me know if you're the same way, but I, I definitely am that way. So the way I operate is that I have my physical planner and my agenda that I use. And then if I have any meetings or appointments, I put that in my Google calendar and I block that off. So if it's in my Google calendar as an appointment, I then write it into my.
00:07:18
Speaker
you know, physical planner as well. So I have two, I have two systems. Either way, they are both color coded. And I love it. My system, it might be a bit much for someone else, but it works for me. Okay. It works for me. But essentially time blocking. One of the key things about time blocking that I do want to highlight is that if you are time blocking,
00:07:40
Speaker
You want to make sure that you are not distracted during that time because if you block off 30 minutes to work on you know Content creation brainstorming like you want to be your your goal is to be an influencer So you block off 30 minutes to brainstorm ideas for content for the next Week month, what have you?
00:08:03
Speaker
If you then pop out your phone and you're scrolling for those 30 minutes, you didn't you didn't you didn't do anything. You did nothing. So be careful and make sure that when you time block, you stick to that time block.

Reflective Journaling for Goal Achievement

00:08:20
Speaker
The third system that you can utilize when strategizing for your goals in 2025 is the progress journal system. So essentially journaling to reach your goals. And this is going to be huge if you're the type of person that really likes to sit with yourself and reflect on things. If you really like to take the time to deep dive into your motivations, into your thoughts, into your emotions, your insights, and really hash them out. this This is for you. If you already are a journaling girly, this one's for you definitely, because you're going to be reflecting daily. You're going to be looking at your goals and the progress that you've made. You want to document and your wins. First of all,
00:09:08
Speaker
which Whichever one you are choosing, document your wins. I'm a huge proponent of that. No matter what system you're going to be using in order to reach your goals in any year, document the wins big or small, write them down, celebrate them. For this one, especially as you are journaling everything out.
00:09:27
Speaker
Make sure to document your wins. Make sure that these resonate with you. When I say a win, you want to feel that, feel that in your heart, feel that in your soul, that it is a win. You want it to resonate, feel that frequency, that vibrancy. Feel proud of yourself for whatever accomplishment that is.
00:09:46
Speaker
For real, you want to feel that. And the next thing to do when it comes to the journal system is you want to identify the obstacles and then also start to identify the solutions for those obstacles.
00:10:02
Speaker
And again, this is all drilling it out. You can create a system as well of like, what were, what was the progress that I made today? What was one win that I made today towards my goal? What got in the way of working towards my goal today? Like these are questions you can be asking yourself in your reflections while you're journaling about these things. You want to do maybe a monthly progress review.
00:10:24
Speaker
What does that look like? What questions are you going to be asking yourself at the end of the month when it comes to the work that you've done towards your goal? Or maybe the work you haven't done towards your goal? What are those questions? What got in the way? So this can look like designating a day of the week to reflect and sticking to it. So if it's every Sunday, you are going to reflect and write in your goals journal.
00:10:47
Speaker
you better do it every Sunday. Also remember to have fun with it. I know that we can get really like it's the new year and I'm gonna do all these things to change my life and change me and it can feel like so much pressure to do so much stuff in it's such a short amount of time but it's It's all what we choose to do for our own selves and our own lives. There's no pressure. Like, babes, you got this. Whether it's going to happen in the next month or in the whole next year or whatever. Like, you got this, it's going to take place. So remember to have fun with it. If you're like me, having fun with it means buying some new stationery, buy a new journal.
00:11:32
Speaker
You know, maybe you want to, you know, ah get some stickers, get some of that washi tape, make it cute. Have fun with this. Definitely make sure to have fun with this. This is your life. We're not just talking about goals for you to like achieve because you want to puff your chest and have a bigger ego. We're talking about your life here. So make sure to have fun with it.
00:11:55
Speaker
Additionally, like I mentioned before, pick standardized check-in questions because the more that you have the same question to check in with, the more you'll be able to have sort of a baseline of progress you've made from like the previous month, the previous week to now.
00:12:14
Speaker
So those are three different strategies that I did mention that you can use in order to reach your goals in 2025.

Recap and Personalization of Strategies

00:12:21
Speaker
We have habit stacking, which is something that I employ, time blocking, also something I employ, and then also the journaling system. Not something I really employ all that much. I personally struggle a bit when it comes to journaling consistently.
00:12:36
Speaker
So I definitely use time blocking and I definitely use habit stacking. You can use one, you can use all three, you can use two out of the three like I do. But whichever way that you choose, I definitely want you to remember that there's no pressure. This is you and your life and the changes you are wanting to make for your life.
00:12:58
Speaker
And you got this. It might not be the easiest thing, but all you gotta do is make it one step at a time. So remember that personal goal setting should align with your lifestyle, your values, and your natural rhythms. Start small, build consistency, and before you know it, you will have reached your goal.
