And it's five out of five for Big Angie's boys, yet we're looking back on the 2-1 win away in Hungary against Ferenc Varas in the Europa League on Thursday night. a youthful spur I got the job done in Hungary, making it two wins from two in the group stage. Plenty to unpack from this one, from Angie's bowl team to selection to some standout performances by our younger players. So let's

jump straight into it. And remember, you can have your say at GSP in Tottenham.

on all social media. Right. So, Joe Forrest here with you today, looking back at the Europa League game and Tottenham came into the match off the back of a strong run of domestic form. Ange Postakovic, who decided to rotate the squad, of course, with Brighton coming up this weekend, making seven changes to the team that beat Manchester United 3-0.

Young Talent Shines

The headline news, well, Spurs started four teenagers, Mikey Moore, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergfahl and Will Lanchere. In fact, this was the first time we've started four teenagers in a major UEFA competition since way back in 2019, 2009, I should say, when we play Schectar Donetsk in what was then called the UEFA Cup.
00:01:12

All right, let's talk about these youngsters starting with Mikey Moore, just 17 years old and making his full debut. He played the full 90 minutes, and Foster Cogley was full of praise for him after the match, calling him outstanding, and he was absolutely right. Moore was heavily involved in the first goal, with a great run down the right wing. cause problem for the for the It caused problems for the Ferenc Varas defense, and the loose ball eventually fell to Papsar, who slotted it home from close range. That's two goals in the Europa League, now for Sar, and he's a real emerging presence, cementing himself in that Spurs midfield this season.

Brennan Johnson's Performance

00:01:42

Now, Froke varus actually thought they'd gone ahead earlier in the match. when Barnabas-Vaga headed in, but it was ruled out for offside. They came back into the game strongly in the second half, but Guilhermo Vicario made a fantastic fingertip save to deny Mathias Saldana and keep us in front. Then came that second goal. And again, Mikey Moore played a crucial role. He set up Brennan Johnson, who found the net with a low shot that bounced in off the post. That's five goals in five for Johnson. Now he's in brilliant form and has really bounced back after all that social media hate that he received. Good for you, Brennan.
00:02:12

um especially with his ability to come off the bench and make an instant impact. And do look out for the ah Brenaldo, Brennan Johnson times R9 posts on Instagram today from both the club and from James Madison. Now it's a bit of a nervy finish is just when it seemed like Spurs were cruising to a two nil win. Varga pulled one back for Frank Varos in the 90th minute finishing off across from the left. um Set up a very tight finish in a few minutes of stoppage time. But in the end, Spurs held on.

to secure three points.

That makes it six points from six in the Open League so far following our opening three-nil win against Cara Bagh. We'll be looking back a little bit on Angel Posto Coquille's game plan in just a few moments of time.

Youth Strategy Pays Off

The Global Sports Podcast Network, every club, every day.
00:03:14

So, Foster Cogloo's gamble with youth really did pay off. One of the biggest talking points from the game was his decision to start so many youngsters um and alongside Mikey Moore, who we talked about, obviously we had Archie Gray, who was absolutely brilliant in defence, playing centre-back, sometimes doubling up as a left-back, um just looked fantastic. Versatility, calm on the ball, skill, good range of passing, just 18-year-old, and it's so impressive.
00:03:38
officialgspn
Lucas Bergfau, also 18, worked hard in midfield, not particularly glittering game for him. He was subbed off later. And then Will Langschere who made his senior debut at 19. He had a couple of chances to get on the score sheet and although he didn't quite manage it, his movement and work rate were really promising, which is obviously something that PosterKogloo does look to do and as Spurs were kind of chasing that second goal Kudaszewski Johnson and Solanki were all brought on to give a bit of senior experience and actually that goal obviously did come with Brendan Johnson being the scorer um but it's clear that these young players aren't just being thrown in they clearly earned their places in the team and PosterKogloo made it clear in his post-match press comments. To add a bit of perspective
00:04:16
officialgspn
There were mean spurs of one now five successive matches in all competitions since losing in the North London

Momentum Under Postacoglu

00:04:21

Derby. Something that hasn't been done since March 2021 under Jose Mourinho. Been a really strong run of form under Poster Kogliu and it feels like we're building serious momentum both in Europe and the Premier League. It's also exciting to show ah see how this balance of youth and experience is working for us with players like Madison Johnson and Koulousevski doing the heavy lifting, um the younger guy stepping up and contributing in key moments. And and one of the things that and Will be dissected when I chat to Joe from the Brighton podcast in the crossover show, which is gonna come out late today on Friday So ready for you for the weekend is the kind of slight shift in Spurs tactic and emphasis on counterattacking But right now do you have a story to tell that the world needs to hear? Have you struggled with reaching new audiences who are engaged with your story?

There you go. Nice one. Thank you very much. Scott eat. Just, just chilling out eating a minute Imperial after dinner. What, what a life he's living. Um, yeah. So, um, so Scott was absolutely right. Yeah. Like, like really good tactical breakdown there. The bit with the flares was, was actually very interesting as well. That was bizarre. Like kind of some sort of a bit like when the dementors come in Harry Potter. Um, yeah.
00:10:24
officialgspn
It was, I did think, ah yeah, ah at one point is Archie Grey going to have to conjure up a Patronus here to to clear this, but but thankfully not. um Yeah, as Scott mentioned, Brighton next to the Premier League on Sunday, as I said, look out for that for that crossover pod. but I'm next in the Europa League. I suppose going to be hosting Dupside AZ Akmar in three weeks time. A win would put Tottenham into a pretty commanding position in the, well, it's actually the group, but the table as the the new format is,
00:10:50
officialgspn
um All in all, just a really solid performance in Hungary and Stuka Gamble started loads of youngsters, but it paid off. Mikey Moore was the star of the show. Pursuamer had a great game as well. Lovely to see Johnson get on the score sheet too. And as Scott said, lovely to see his form coinciding with Spurs and the two things are kind of.
00:11:05
officialgspn
ah are of course linked. I'm really excited to think about how these young players are going to continue to develop. Bit of a scare at the end, but three points of three points and we're looking strong in Europe so

You've got everything that you need to know as well. um Obviously one of the big stories coming out around Spurs at the moment is Amanda Staveley's potential half a billion pound investment in the club. Myself and Scott recorded a special episode all about that. um So do look back in the Daily Tottenham feed and you will find that there. And remember you can have your say on all social media at GSP and Tottenham. Thanks as always for listening and we will catch you next time.
