00:00:10
Speaker
Hello and welcome back to today's crossover special episode here on the Global Sports Podcast Network. On today's show we are going to be previewing Ipswich Town's trip to North London this Sunday where they will take on Tottenham

Hosts Introduction and Match Discussion

00:00:22
Speaker
Hotspur. I am Tom from the Daily Ipswich Podcast and I'm once again joined by Mr James Bennett from the Ipswich team. How are you doing James? All good, thank you mate, yourself?
00:00:31
Speaker
Yeah, good. and Another scary, big, big Premier League game for Towne this weekend, as it seems to be all season. And in the home corner and Spurs daily podcast team, we are joined by Christina Zandes. How are you doing, Christina? Yeah, well, good. Nice to be called scary. Not you, the team. I think at most of the points for Towne this season, it's it's a daunting task the Premier League this season, but we're trying our best, that's for sure.

Team Performance Expectations

00:00:55
Speaker
So for today's show, we're going to look at both sides and how they're going to fare this weekend and just sort of see how both sides are doing this season from a fan perspective. We're going to start with Spurs. So, Cristina, I just want to know how have you rated Tottenham season so

Tottenham's Season Analysis by Christina

00:01:06
Speaker
far? How do how you think it's going?
00:01:08
Speaker
Yeah, it's ah it's been definitely an emotional roller coaster for us. A lot of ups and downs, as everyone will see, would have seen you know with us being beaten by Crystal Palace way. It was their first win in the Premier League so far. We had to give it to them. And then, of course, doing it the Tottenham way, we go ahead and beat Man City and then Aston Villa. And and as we're doing this right now, recording, we've just watched the Europa game, so that wasn't quite great. But, you know, the ups and downs, that's exactly what it is right now. But overall, I'm i'm keen to stay positive with Tottenham at the moment. i with Under Andrze especially, I'm just really hoping to see, you know, more improvements and, you know, the players that we've got at the moment, there's definitely a lot more coming out with them, with, you know, signings, I'm sure that we'll discuss later on. But yeah, I'm going to say keep positive. It's all good.
00:02:05
Speaker
Nice. James, with Spurs, from an outsized perspective, how would you rate them? I think, you know, we most would assume their aim, and Kristine, correct me if I'm wrong here, would be a top four each season. That seems to be the overall aim for the most fans for a club that size each season. But, you know, seventh at the moment, not ideal for them. Like, how would you rate them from an outsized perspective?

Outsider's View on Tottenham

00:02:27
Speaker
same if It's a tough one really because if if I was a Spurs fan I would probably be a little disappointed because I would be looking to be maybe a little bit higher but there is a lot of positives like Christina touched on because the football that they've been playing as well when they've been playing well is unbelievable like it's so attacking and it's so effective. I'm really worried I'll be honest for Saturday but obviously we'll touch into it more.
00:02:52
Speaker
it later on. But yeah, I think just from a football fans point, they're great to watch. They're so good to watch because you never know what's going to happen either. So I like that. And obviously, yeah, again, like Christina touched on, that just classic spares again, it seems the season again, that's who knows which one's going to show up. But hopefully, we get the good end of the end of the stick. But we'll see.

Ange Postecoglou's Impact on Tottenham

00:03:17
Speaker
One of the reasons Spurs are playing fantastic football, I think from a Spurs fan perspective and an outsider's perspective, is that of Anj Posterkoglu's philosophy as a manager. He's been there in the job for a year and three months now, shall we say, Christina? Yeah. Obviously, you went through the Mourinho and Conte areas, two great managers, but just didn't really work out and wasn't really the sort of style of play that Spurs fans are used to, shall we say. How how you how are you liking Anj Bull, shall we say, and how far do you see it going with him at the helm?
00:03:47
Speaker
I absolutely love him. I think he's fantastic. And, you know, before he actually joined us, I had no idea about Ang. I really had no idea. no but now still way A lot of people didn't, you know, and and I think that was actually quite a good thing. We didn't really couldn't really make ah an opinion on of it. You had to just wait and see if the how it was going to turn out, basically. And for me, I think it's been brilliant. he's To me, he's brought the club back to life. You know, we've had these huge characters that have come in, as you mentioned, Mourinho, we've had Conte. And it just doesn't work out at Tottenham with these, they're just two
00:04:27
Speaker
too big for the club almost. it like I hate to say that, but that is how it was. you know Serial winners. We need someone that is hungry for themselves and then for the players. you know They want to improve. That's what they need to do is improve each individual player that is playing on that pitch right there. And I feel like And has got that. And that is his philosophy with football. He loves football as well. And it's just you know his first time in the Premier League as well.
00:04:55
Speaker
We always forget about that. I think he's done incredibly well. the The football's there. It's exciting to watch as you guys have said it. I mean, as a neutral, it must be quite fun to watch so them. For us, and it's almost you're on the edge of having a heart attack, but, you know, it's all worth it at times.
00:05:12
Speaker
And yeah, it's it's even recently with the

Tottenham-Arsenal Rivalry

00:05:16
Speaker
games that we've seen. I mean, I went to the Man City game and the stadium was absolutely, it was incredible, the atmosphere, which is what I'm hoping to see ah for the Ipswich game because it once when the fans really get on you know supporting the team it really makes a huge difference um so it you know overall as i said i feel and just slowly bringing the club back to life and i'm totally here for it fantastic yeah james
00:05:48
Speaker
and andosacolo what would you make of a guy seems to k christtina touch know like read like rediscover the identity of what top hotspro is a club you know with the move for new ground maybe you feel like you could lost by identity be definitely seems have brought it back doesn't it hundred percent i mean I love the guy. Just from an outsider's perspective, I think he's brilliant. and he's there if I feel like he's exactly what the Premier League needs as well. You you know exactly what you're getting with him.
00:06:13
Speaker
It doesn't matter if fear if he upsets people, which I think is great. You need that with a manager, especially because what I really liked as well was, um, I don't know how you feel about this, Christina, to be fair. So it might be good to get a ah spares sort of fans view on it. You know, when you played Arsenal and, uh, you know, there was a little bit of thing with the fans saying and all of that, how, what was your feeling? Cause I thought it was great. What you come out and said personally, just from a, an outside sort of perspective, but what was your sort of feelings towards towards that?
00:06:42
Speaker
Is this the actual Arsenal game or the Man City game where? The Arsenal story, yeah, where, you know, it was obviously rivals and it was a bit like going to every game, you know, that kind of thing. Yeah, I mean, that the thing is with, on that moment, I think, Angie needs to realise the rivalry, how serious it is.
00:07:04
Speaker
because that is the game that I dread every single year. I'm sure it's every Tottenham fan would say the same. And it is for us, it's just, you know, you want to have that right to win it and to go out there and be like, North London is white, you know, it's all of that. But I think that's where he's got to learn.
00:07:24
Speaker
And he will and it is, you know, it's even the players as well. Some of these players have come in and, you know, they need to understand how important some of these games are to us fans, you know, the history of it. And and he's going to, I'm sure he's, you know, even with the, I'm going to use the Man City game, for an example, you know.
00:07:43
Speaker
with his comments on that he didn't he doesn't understand the rivalry like I I personally I went to that game and I I sat there in silence because if they had won if we had won that game and we had allowed to given our rivalries you know that opportunity for them to go ahead and win the league it would have never stopped I couldn't bear that not fan you know yeah and this and that that but that's the whole thing about football right oh no you guys are paused yeah It's back. Keep going. Sorry guys, technical difficulties. Um, apologies. So yeah, that's the whole beauty of football at the end of the day, isn't it? It's how emotion, the emotions, the passion. Um, so
00:08:29
Speaker
you know, you you just got to lean in towards, you know, you need to understand the club.

New Signings at Tottenham

00:08:34
Speaker
And I think that's what he's doing. And he's becoming part of us now. That's it. and So I'm hoping, him you know, we've got them obviously away next next year. We'll see how it goes from there. But I'm sure he he who he he's learning. And so are we.
00:08:50
Speaker
That was very much a between a rock and a hard place dilemma for Spurs last season, wasn't it? like you know Do you want to go for the win against you know City, which is a great win to get as you saw recently? or if you do that you're given the biggest rivals their first title in 20 plus years it was a it was a I can't imagine how when you did a great job of describing their Christina about how Spurs fans it'd be like for us if like if we wanted it would have given Norwich like promotion or a title I wouldn't like absolutely not it's it's so difficult and you know I think you know touching them there not being aware of rivalries it's It must be, you know, he was in the old arguably the biggest revenue UK, which is the old firm, and he experienced many modes of Celtic. So he obviously knows how big that occasion is. But I think, you know, he wants to win, but it's a strange one. I kind of saw where both sets him and fans are coming from. With players this season, who who's kind of stood out for you about Dom Slanky, I think, you know, he's doing quite a good job of filling the massive shoes of Hurricane. It's obviously going to take a Herculean effort to equate the amount of goals he's scored, but he seems to be off to a good start.
00:09:52
Speaker
He's fantastic signing, my opinion, very clever signing. And to me, even when he's not scoring goals, he's working damn hard on that pitch. He's creating pressure and from that Villa game, and ah honestly, as soon as that ball was going forward, I couldn't keep my eyes off Solanke, the way he just shot off and was getting straight into position. He was wanting to get those goals.
00:10:15
Speaker
I think he's absolutely fantastic and he's strong as well, really strong. He's almost like like a fridge on the pitch. He literally is. He's just incredible. I absolutely love watching him play and I think it's a great sign and for Tottenham and we really need to appreciate that we've got him now. And I've i've tried to fully support with Richarlison and it's really difficult at times because the consistency is just not there at the moment. And obviously now with the injuries as well,
00:10:45
Speaker
It's getting frustrating. I'm sure he's getting frustrated as well. And I i do feel sorry for him, but I feel like Solanke is there now. And I've said it on previous pods. I actually think maybe we should give him the number nine shirt.
00:10:58
Speaker
cause he's just proven it right now and even today with the Europa Gamers we're recording this on a Thursday night as soon as he came on um he's gone ah gone ahead and scored so yeah I think he's a really exciting player to watch and another sign in that I feel needs to get praised is Brennan Johnson. I've said on here previously. and I think he's a fantastic player, a young player who's hungry, he's got speed and you know he's had a hell of a lot of negativity from the fans and he just went ahead and shut the fans up and it was it was great, I was here for it. So you know we a lot of Spurs fans, we're very critical, that's the issue when we get new signings, we're very critical because
00:11:42
Speaker
We haven't had a huge amount you know with trophies. There's always you know the pressure. There is a lot of pressure, definitely. and But I just feel we need to be aware of when we get signings in and you know how young these players are and how it can actually affect them, you know the confidence. Because to me, confidence, eight it makes a huge amount of change.
00:12:03
Speaker
to how you play basically and he just went ahead and cut off social media and he was scoring goals left, right and centre so I'm here for it and again I'm excited to see what he's got in store for us for the rest of the season.

Ipswich's Premier League Challenges and VAR

00:12:16
Speaker
Absolutely. James, touching on Johnson and Solanke there, I think from a town's perspective, there are two guys who, yes, Solanke came from like, you know, Charles' Academy was at Liverpool for a bit, didn't really work out. Both had spells in the Championship with Forrest and Bournemouth respectively, then came up with both those sides and prove that they are Premier League quality players, both getting big moves after that. We've got a lot of guys who are coming from the Championship were fantastic last year, hoping to make that leap. They're good inspirations for, I think, for a lot of players who've moved up.
00:12:43
Speaker
as you know it shows that you can be good in one and good in the other. Because there's always that sort of cliche argument of, oh, I haven't done a championship, like but not on the prem. But you know I think we've got players who have shown them the season the ready who will touch on town after the break. But you know Johnson and Slanky, like they're looking good as Premier League stars now, aren't they? Yeah.
00:13:01
Speaker
Great, great players. I mean, Solanke, like you said, Christie, I think it's a really smart signing from Bournemouth, to be honest, because he was really starting to come into his own, because obviously it didn't quite work out at Liverpool. Bournemouth took a punt. It's eventually worked out there, and I think it's going to work out for him at spares, to be honest, because he he looks a really, really good player, ah and he should have that number 900%.
00:13:22
Speaker
And there Johnson, yeah, I really do like, especially I just like the little connection as well. Obviously David Johnson being his daddy played played at us as well. So it'd be nice to see him knocking about, I'm sure, for all the fans as well. So yeah, but Johnson, I just love the fact that he took all the negativity, brushed it to his side and just let his football do the talking. Great player. Yeah, it's what you want to see, isn't it?
00:13:44
Speaker
We're going to take a break now. When we come back, we're going to look at the Ipswich side of things. 00:14:12
Speaker
And we are back here on the Daily Crossover episode. I'm used to saying Daily Crossover, sorry. The Crossover episode for Ipswich v. Tottenham this Sunday. Looking at the away team now, James, and I'll let you lead the way here.
00:14:27
Speaker
10 games in, we've discussed it many times, and without a win, but there are good positive performances there. I think, you know, we had difficult games at West Ham and the home loss to Everton. Last two weeks have been heartbreaking with last minute either defeat or a last minute equalise against Leicester. The performances of Everton, the win isn't there. what why How would you rate the season as a whole in our first spell back in the prem in 22 years?
00:14:53
Speaker
Yeah ah but um'm still racing already yeah ah it's it's a tough one it really is because I'm still absolutely buzzing that we're just in the Premier League still I'm still riding higher fat to be honest so if you can hear that that was my cat going crazy. and but and um To it honestly though not high not high because i really thought we would have got our first win already and there's a few performances that have absolutely merited it as well so it's a bit unlucky i do feel like we've been quite unlucky um but i can't use that there's too much an an excuse because we're not there are there are there's enough points clearly that we haven't been good enough either and it's tough to see where where to build on it i guess yes we're we're missing a few first team players we've got a few injuries
00:15:45
Speaker
Obviously, Phillips is now suspended for for the Spurs game, which will be amis be a massive miss. and but yeah to To really rate it, I don't know. I'll probably just go slap bang in the middle, give it a 5 out of 10.
00:15:59
Speaker
because the yeah the performances are there and I think we can, it's going to come soon because it has to come soon, but I think if we keep the lap fit we can threaten anybody, we can absolutely threaten anybody um on his day, ah because he proved that against Villa, do you know what I mean? no He played solid against Villa. Hutchinson is going to start coming good if he stays on the right, I think Weirdly enough, I think Chaplin has looked very good in the last couple of games. I didn't expect to say that either. I really didn't. I thought he was just going to be, I thought he'd maybe go in January to be honest, but I think he might have proved himself to to have a full season, which I'm really, really happy about.
00:16:40
Speaker
Look, and Phillips, yeah, I think Phillips has played really well, if I'm honest. He's he's improving every single game. Obviously, i am another lad with us, Christina Rob, who's who's brilliant. He really, really laid into him, which was I thought was maybe a little bit harsh, because obviously, yes, it was a red card over the over the last weekend. And then did it obviously, yeah, it changed the game. And there we ended up not getting that win against Leicester. But he played so well that first 75 minutes. and Yeah, like I've like I just mentioned, he's going to be such a miss against Spurs. He really is. Definitely. One of the things with town we've seen a lot this season, I think it's it's it's so the fine margins and the Premier League is the thing I've noticed the most. And you know, the past two weeks we could have
00:17:25
Speaker
come away with four points of a draw at Brentford, a really tough late goal from Mbuemo, and then leading 1-0 into the 94th minute at home last week to draw 1-0. It could have been four points, it turned into one, so it really is a fine margin. You know, if you're looking at the table this season, we've drawn the same, we've drawn more games than Man United, but somehow they're 13th or 18th, so it's really, I think we've drawn almost the most games in the season, but I think one of the things that town fans are experiencing in their experience for the first time, that's for sure this season, is those dreaded three letters of VAR. We've had a few contentious issues of that this season. I think last week, a lot of us, myself included, were very much convinced it was a stonewall penalty for Chaplin before. Fitness was rightly given a red, but it's just there's moments when you think maybe we should be given something before it goes against us. but
00:18:15
Speaker
k Christine, like you know um as a fan who's used to it, like our chairman, Mark Ashton, gave in to BBC Suffolk this week, and he was saying that he's been predominantly working in the leagues below his whole career, his first year, I believe, in the Premier League, especially in this position anyway. And he was saying like it's just an just taking his love at the game sometimes yeah and like texting how web mid-game saying like I've already got an issue and Richard from R-Pod has kind of said a similar thing that is enthusiasm for the game is dwindled. Is that that's the thing you're used to now as a fan? Like you just sit there going and like we've scored but have we scored? Do you know what I mean?
00:18:51
Speaker
It's, it's, yeah, that first season was really strange as literally what you just said. Like when you scored a goal, it was like, hang on, are we allowed to celebrate this? I'm not quite sure. You know, it's, it's, it is very, hit you you just haven't got a clue, but.
00:19:06
Speaker
It's, I see negatives and then I see positives in VIR. It's, um, you know, cause for example, like, um, I believe, what was it? The, well, I mean our Liverpool game, you know, where it wasn't offside, like even I would say that.
00:19:22
Speaker
completely ruined it and if that you know as much as I was jumping up and about and celebrating if that was us on the you know the opposite side we would have been absolutely raging you know and it's just it it isn't fair at the end of the day it isn't when it's with decisions like that But then there is decisions where, for example, with, I believe it was the Chelsea game, the foul that was on Ben Davis, you know, it was a clear foul and the ref didn't have a bloody clue. But VAR took it in and then, you know, they sorted it out. So it is a very, it it's very frustrating and I just feel they need to improve that for sure, VAR. They need to get better at it. I do think it is good. I think, you know, I think it can help.
00:20:06
Speaker
but it's just like i said there's so many negatives but there's so many positives to it but it just it just needs to get have you know it needs to get improved big time because it can really really just like completely ruin the game and it's not fair especially you know for you guys who've just come into the premier league and you're not used to this as well um but you know, ah you you will get used to it. Hopefully we'll get used to it. In days like this, we may not be used to it for a few more months. But I think one one of the things of it as well, it's like, I'm a big fan of Latin America sports, watching NFL and BA for many, many years now. And they use a lot of technology in those sports, especially going NFL. And there is sometimes that sort of feeling of, can I celebrate this being a touchstone or is it not kind of thing. But you know, I feel like like you said, Christine, there's a lot of scenarios where it is good to have it because there's been issues over the years where you like
00:20:57
Speaker
those technology like Lampard's Go on 2010 would have said like something like that you know I mean there's there's yeah moments when like you wish you would have had it and it's very much I feel also from a fan's perspective when it goes against you you hate it and when it goes for you you love it within reason I think you hit the ground ahead with the Liverpool scenario last season where In the moment, it was good. It didn't come through. i trying to But then obviously, you look back, it really shouldn't have been. Was it? It was given a goal. I can't remember to go. and what was really it was yeah it they gave so It was a
00:21:25
Speaker
but they gave it offside. well It wasn't offside. um but like it was It was quite clear as well. I don't i don't know how the hell. But even because afterwards, they brought out the evidence of it with the talk that they had. with theba and it was just a mess and that's what I mean. They really do need to improve it um but yeah like I said I was up and down like absolutely buzzing from that game so. oh I feel that's something that sort of comes with a town conversation a lot this season is, oh past few weeks I should say, is VAR because we haven't really had many
00:21:59
Speaker
brushings of it in the first two weeks of the season, you know, the early games against Liverpool and City, our first two games of the season, we kind of expected the results to go as ways. And then we had a few good draws, I thought four in a row, like Sevilla and Brighton being two great results. And recently, it's not necessarily been, especially the past two weeks, not necessarily been our performances that have scuffered us, you could argue has been the refereeing. But James, looking at town, I've mentioned a few guys there, I think a player who I think has had a really good past couple of weeks considering defensively we had a few injuries is Cameron Burgess. yeah Me and Rob were saying on yesterday's show how well he's made the, not the leap, because I don't think he would be a starter if Grease was fit. But he's showing that he's he's a reliable hand, which is something I don't think many of us were expecting this season.
00:22:47
Speaker
Definitely. Yeah, I agree. Because i I think we all said it at the start of the season anyway, that he'd be one not to sound hurt you know horrible towards him, because I do really like Burgess, so he's been a great player. But at the start of the season, I think we all said he'd be one that would maybe leave, I think, you know to get rid of. Thankfully, we've not, because obviously we've needed the backup anyway. And he's ah he's slotted in really nice, to be honest. um Yeah, took me absolutely by surprise. He's been, last couple of weeks, he's played really well. I think he's,
00:23:16
Speaker
yeah We need to keep him, I think, just just for that, because he's proven that he can be a good backup, where especially when we've got a full fully fit team. ah Yeah, Burgess, obviously very impressive. and We always bring up Davis, because I think we always have to, because he's just that good. Week in, week out, he's unbelievable. And that goal as well. ah Ridiculous goal. Class player.
00:23:38
Speaker
Yeah, he's very much the bright spark for our team this season. where I don't know how familiar I believe that he was Christina, but we are a few men each week, each month or so when the England team is announced. And given the lack of left-back sweat, too short, I should say, not for the time being, but he has at his disposal. He's one of the few there and he saw the girl he banged in this past weekend. We're kind of hoping one day that club bias can disappear and he can get into the squad.
00:24:00
Speaker
We're going to take our last break on today's show. When we come back, we're going to look at how both sides may line up this weekend as well as how they can hurt one another at the top of Hotspur Stadium. So I'll see you guys

Tottenham's Defensive Concerns

00:24:41

And we're back here on the final part of today's episode, previewing Spurs v Ipswich this Sunday in the Premier League. Looking at Spurs for the weekend, Christina, obviously one of the things that stands out for me as an Ipswich fan is, at centre back, it seems that Ramiro and van der Ven will not be fit going into this weekend. Is that a worry for you? Because I think it was, I assume with the pairing you had tonight will also be the pairing you're going to have, oh, I should say and last night.
00:25:06
Speaker
is going to be the pairing you're going to have on Sunday. Is that going to be a worry over time? How how they and how long are their injuries for? Do you know? And could that be a factor? I believe, uh, Ramiro is not going to be for long. I can't remember which one it was actually. I think it's Ramiro that is it's not going to be for long. They're both not serious injuries. They just need to rest up though. Cause I always have this thing with Tottenham where we get a player injured and we rush them back in to get playing.
00:25:35
Speaker
and they end up getting injured again, like quickly. Cause I feel like we've got a habit of doing that. Same with like Sonny when he used to get injured. And I feel like the substitution that And you made recently where he took him off was a great shout. He hit the guy. We've overworked him so, so much. He needs to rest. And ah you know, I'm 32. I think he's the same age as me need to rest. It's, you know, it's, you know,
00:26:03
Speaker
but Both athletes. but You know, it's important for, you know, because you do not want to get them into another serious injury where it takes even more longer for them to heal. So it's going to be a problem for sure.
00:26:18
Speaker
As we, like you just said, well, it was recorded last, we'll say yesterday, um the defence was not great. I'm going to be honest. It's an issue. And I'm sure Ange will take that into consideration. We'll see what he can do. I mean, we haven't got much options options at the moment for it.
00:26:37
Speaker
But, I mean, Dragison, he's had quite a good few, and I do think he is a good player. I was watching him loads at the Euros and I thought he was absolutely fantastic. I mean, at the Villa game, I thought he was brilliant. Not so much yesterday, but I feel like there was a lot of fingers to point to, not just him. So, with this game, with Ipswich,
00:27:01
Speaker
I know you guys haven't, you know, it's going to be important for you guys to win, but it is just as important for us as well because we've now got into a position where we're seeing other clubs, Man City, Arsenal, they're starting to drop points. This is now a huge opportunity for us to now move up.
00:27:17
Speaker
I don't want to underestimate Ipswich at all. We should never underestimate all the clubs like you guys that are coming to the Premier League. I mean, look at Bournemouth now. But you guys will also be wanting to get three points. Of course you will. And that's why I just hope with the atmosphere coming back now,
00:27:36
Speaker
I really hope that we do scare you guys. like i want We need to be big on this. It's going to be a big three points that we need to get. and so The opportunity is there, but also we are Tottenham. That is how it is. You never know. but yeah yeah we i mean it's just That it does worry me. but We just need to, we need to fight. That's all we need to do. We need to fight and make sure that we want to, the mentality, we've got a huge mentality insurance on them, I believe. um And that's what's annoying about the game with the Europa. We've obviously lost that. I wanted to keep that momentum of the winning, you know, wanted it to keep going and going. and So I just hope that we still have that in our heads with the fact that we have got a huge opportunity here to get those three points and go up in the table. So yeah, we just got,
00:28:31
Speaker
just go by and see.

Ipswich's Tactical Strategies

00:28:33
Speaker
Absolutely. James, with Towne, I touched this if on with Rob on Thursday's show, the front three behind the lap, it's kind of been like a carousel a lot this season. We've seen past few weeks of Schmodix and Hutchinson finally on the right and then Chapman playing really well in the middle the past weeks. Do you see that being the same three this week based on form or one of the things Rob touched on yesterday is the fact that you know with Spurs fullbacks in Poro and a doggy like us to go quite far forward maybe it's better to have someone like Clark out on the left who can huckle that wing rather than someone like Schmodix who may like to tuck in and maybe get caught out. So with that in mind do you see it being the same three or will someone else come in do you think?
00:29:13
Speaker
I think I agree, Rob, to be honest, I think this could be a good good chance and a good game for Clarke to start again, to be quite honest, but I would still keep Hutchinson on the right 100% because we were talking about it for ages and we were we moaning that he wasn't out there for so long and he's finally been put out there and he's been playing well. He's so much more direct because he knows what to do there properly. He's not a number 10 and I don't think I don't think the Premier League is the correct league to be practising that, do you know what I mean? It's because he's got a bit found out and he did, so I'm glad he's been moved out right. Chaplin's been playing well, we touched on it earlier. Whether I'd start him against Tottenham, I don't know. I think I would personally, I think I'd put Smodych in the number 10, because we've been saying that for a bit as well, because I think that's his but best position. And I've Clark out on the left, obviously still the lap up front. Would the lap
00:30:06
Speaker
you know played a whole game. I don't know if he doesn't. I think Hurst has been playing well as well, so I think he's a great sub to bring on as well, um because he's a battler. We love Hurst. Yeah, I think i think that would pro that would be my three behind, but it probably will. I think Chaplin probably will start again just because he's been playing well, and McKenna seems to reward that, which is not nothing wrong with that, nothing wrong with that at all.
00:30:30
Speaker
Yeah, I think I'm in agreement with you there. We've touched on the Spurs defence and kind of the attack with Johnson Slang here today, Chrissie. I just want to talk about midfield because, I mean, I'm not really sure. I mean, I don't watch you guys that much to know you're starting free, but recently it was Kuleszewski, Bentonkur and Saar. But, you know, on the bench, you've got the likes of Bassoon and Madison. Do you have, as a club and fans, a preferred three or is it kind of like with Vars, a bit of a carousel you don't know what you're going to get each week?
00:30:57
Speaker
I think it depends on the game. eight yeah that That's what it is. like i thought I hate like pointing fingers, but like James Madison, I just thought he was, asked when when we first signed him, I was, well, just before I knew we were signing him, I was a bit concerned about it because I know his history with like injuries and that and how long it does take for him to recover. And, you know, for him coming back from an injury, it does take a while for him to actually start to become that James Madison that you originally had, you know. And we signed him and he was phenomenal. He was exactly what we were dying to have.
00:31:37
Speaker
was creativity in that midfield. He was bringing that and it was it was exciting as soon as he got the ball. But for some reason, I just feel like that's slowly gone down since his injury and that he's had. And it does worry me a little bit with Madison, but I feel like sometimes when he doesn't start and he comes off from the bench, I feel like he makes a big impact. So I feel like slowly bringing him in could help. I feel Kudzewski is... No, not Kudzewski, sorry. I feel Archie Grey, sorry, I was going to say.
00:32:15
Speaker
I actually prefer him playing in midfield than in defence. I think he plays a lot better. and We saw that last night. I i think he's some of his passing is is fantastic. The goal that he had for... Oh God, I've forgotten who scored it again now. Will Lancashire, sorry, because he got sent off, sorry.
00:32:36
Speaker
But yeah, the pass that he did was phenomenal and it went to Johnson, then Lancashire and it was great, great ball from Archie, it was actually better than the actual goal itself. So yeah, I just, this is where the rotation is going to come in though, I think with Angie's going to be you know, bringing in players. And I think he needs to make sure that whatever player he's, he needs to make sure with the first team that they're going to make the impact the ones that are coming on from the bench. And I think Madison is that type of player that does do that at the moment. It's just, it's hard to see that he's not starting, but
00:33:12
Speaker
bringing him in I think yeah it's just it's it it all depends on the game as well I because I feel like Andrew knows that this is going to be an important one hence why he's rested a lot of our players as well so yeah the midfield it's a bit oh yeah i eight everything's worrying me a little bit after yesterday's game now I mean that's what it is Yeah. Yeah, it's it's it seems like you said a lot on today's show and we've thought about it recently

Match Predictions

00:33:40
Speaker
as well. It seems like it's kind of a, you never know what you're going to get with Spurs, but I do want to know what your prediction is scoreline wise this weekend. And if you think it's going to be at least a few goals, who could bang them in for either side?
00:33:54
Speaker
i I do. The reason why I hate doing predictions is because I feel like I curse it when I say it. Deep down, I do feel we're going to win it. We should win it realistically, but I'm going to say 3-1 Tottenham. You are the highest scoring team in the league this season and we defensively Whilst there's been some good games, I have considered a fair few, so I think that's a fair, fair prediction. James, where's your head at scoreline wise? I'll give you Realistically,
00:34:37
Speaker
realistically think I think I agree with Christine. I think it would probably be a 3-1, spares. I hate to admit it me obviously, but you've you've really got to look at just the whole form and hopefully the correct spares for our point of view shows up. So personally and hopefully I'm going to go for a 1-0 steal, 72nd minute Liam Delappe. Well I went for it on Thursday, I went for 1-0. I know we haven't got a first win yet but these sort of games
00:35:12
Speaker
A draw is just as good as a win in my opinion, so if we can get a point... Oh, a draw would be massive for you guys. Huge. We're obviously still after our first win, but if we make a point at Spurs, I'll be happy still. I think two of our biggest results for the season, again, like I said, the win hasn't come yet, but I think the draw away at Brighton was massive. And then also a draw with Villa, who went on to go and beat Bayern a couple days later. Thank you for that as well, by the way. No worries, no worries.
00:35:39
Speaker
That's going to do it for today's show. Thank you, Christian and James, for joining me and thank you all for listening. We hope you have a great weekend and whatever the outcome of the game, as long as we have fun on Sunday, it sort of matters. Thank you so much for listening and we'll see you next time.
