00:00:09
Speaker
And welcome to the Next Guy Up podcast. This is our very first episode and we are super excited to be here with you. We are calling these Friday episodes the Weekend Preview Show. And whenever the actual football season's on, we will be talking about matchups and talking about predictions and things like that.
Focus on Betting and Future Fridays
00:00:30
Speaker
Here in the off season right now, we are going to be talking about some
00:00:34
Speaker
some betting futures, so we're kind of calling this episode Future Fridays. We're talking about some futures that we have, trying to make you guys some money while you are in the off season here.
Meet the Hosts: Zach, Tinsley, and Mason
00:00:45
Speaker
And so, you boys excited to be here? Yes, I have never been more excited about anything in my entire life. Because this is years in the making in this podcast. We have been talking about it.
00:00:56
Speaker
I have been dying to get this microphone out and tell the people of the world the hot takes that I have. And they're hot and they're spicy. All the sponsors. Spiciest takes. All the sponsors we have gathered. A lot of sponsors. We have a huge list of people waiting to sponsor us. We'll reveal some of those to you as we go. So just a couple of introductions. My name is Zach. And I've got Tinsley over here. Yes, sir. That's me.
00:01:26
Speaker
He was born a podcast. He was built for this. It's all I was ever born to do. We have Mason also.
Golf Betting Stories and Humor
00:01:33
Speaker
Let's get it. On the mic. Since I hear you had some golf beds hit last weekend.
00:01:42
Speaker
No. So, uh, fun fact, I've been, I've been blowing these boys up the last two weeks. Uh, I'm Mr. Golf and Mason's phone and see what had happened was I won about three weeks ago. I had an outright winner. I don't remember who's so many golf people. And then I was like, here guys, here's all my golf bets two weeks in a row. And they sucked. And I was like, all right, I'm not going to text them this morning. I'm not going to text them yesterday. I wasn't going to text them with all my picks.
00:02:10
Speaker
And then what happens is, uh, I hit Tommy Fleetwood to be leader first round today, which he tied. So I don't get the full payout, but you know, it's still nice. And then I had a Scotty Scheffler to finish in the top 20, uh, for like plus 200, but it's also tied. So it's not like I was raking in cash, but it was, it was more than I lost the last two weeks giving these guys picks. So I do apologize to them for giving them complete losers.
00:02:40
Speaker
We forgive you this one time. I took, I took you out of my phone as king of golf, but now I put it back in. You're back in now. It's all good. I don't know. I ever got that title king of golf. It's just kind of a random one. I think just cause I hit Brooks Kepka to win, uh, whatever major he won recently was the majors or not majors, uh, masters or whatever he won.
00:03:09
Speaker
So yeah, so back is king of golf if you're listening to this go take me go take Tommy Fleetwood to win it all Stay now guaranteed But no, I'm really just I'm just betting golf because baseball is brutal But I'm trying to build some bankroll to start taking even more of these futures We're gonna be giving out today all of the futures
00:03:32
Speaker
We here at The Next Guy Podcast have a guarantee on all gambling and bets that you will hit at least 50% of them. If not, you get all your money back. The Next Guy Podcast.
Live Golf Tour Sponsorship Announcement
00:03:46
Speaker
Exactly. And if you have any questions or concerns about that, you can contact us at nextguyup3000 at gmo.com. That's it. We'll be waiting for you there.
00:03:59
Speaker
Speaking of some sponsors and golf, the reason that we can have this Money Back Guarantee is that we are officially sponsored by the Live Golf Tour. We know they've had some bad press in the last couple of months, but we really believe that it's going to have an upswing. We are excited to see what they have with their partnership with the PGA, and we fully back them. We're super excited to be sponsored in our very first episode by the Live Golf Tour.
00:04:26
Speaker
Yeah, so shout out to live golf court tour because they are they're really the future of golf. I think good guys there to live golf, you know, believe it what they're doing over there.
Show Segments Preview
00:04:38
Speaker
So today we have a couple of things that we are we're going to talk about. We are going to be starting off with a guest that stat from Mason.
00:04:47
Speaker
He's going to challenge us a little bit and see where we're at. We're gonna give some red flag alerts. Some people that maybe we do not believe in going into the football season. People to stay away from. And then we are going to be doing some futures. We're gonna do our future Friday segment. We are going to go over some things that we believe in, we think are gonna hit.
00:05:09
Speaker
And like I said, we have the money back guaranteed. So you might as well put your money down. What do you have to lose? Here's the thing I say about futures. It's like finding money in your jacket pocket, your jean pocket months later. You forgot it was there. So it's money you're going to waste anyway. So put it on a future. And who knows? It could double. It could triple.
00:05:34
Speaker
You never know. You place it in July, like we're doing, and then in January, you're like, oh, I can invest, have an extra $50 in my account. Where did that come from? Where did this come from? And then it's like right there. It's a miracle. It's a Christmas miracle. And you were correct. A truly Christmas miracle indeed.
Statistics Challenge: NFL Receiver Yards
00:05:52
Speaker
All right, Mason, do you want to kick off our first segment here? Yeah, I'm super pumped about this. This is guess that stat. How it's going to work is we're going to do rankings on the question. So five being the hardest and one being the easiest. I rank these. So this is a level two question for everybody playing at home as well. So this is I went with a kind of a softball question here since
00:06:20
Speaker
2020, which wide receiver has had the most receiving yards? Is it A, Tyree Kill, B, Justin Jefferson, or C, Devontae Adams? I want to answer from both of you, and then I will give the answer. Zach, do you want to go first? Go ahead, Zach. Take it away, Zach. I think, you know,
00:06:52
Speaker
I think I'm going to go with Tyreek Hill. And I'm not sure if that's correct. I know the Chiefs have been on a heater. And so honestly, I'm kind of just going there. I know it's not on the Chiefs anymore. I know this. It's fine. They don't believe in me. Listen to them. If you can see their faces, they don't believe in me. I think it's Tyreek Hill.
00:07:20
Speaker
I'm going to go Devontae Adams. Number one target. The only guy Aaron Rodgers would throw to for a few years there kind of felt the same way with Derek Carr last year and the Raiders. So I'm going to roll with him. Maybe I should have moved the ranking up a little higher. The answer is Justin Jefferson with 4825 yards. What have we done? Holy.
00:07:45
Speaker
and they're gonna take and they're gonna take all of our bets later everybody um he played 50 games maybe he played 50 games receptions for that of reception yards 4825 devante adams was 4443 and tariq hill was 4225 was there was
00:08:09
Speaker
Yeah, that was really close. That's crazy. Justin Jefferson already has that many in his, I mean, he's still a super young player. He's a, he's a problem. Yeah. So when you look this up, did, did Travis Kelsey pop up? I heard a stat. Yes. Where he's like, yeah, I don't remember exactly, but it was like, he's,
00:08:31
Speaker
Like second, right? I listed the top three. This might've been like two years or something for him being listed second because of the last three seasons, those top three that I just gave off, then Stefan Diggs, and then Travis Kelsey. He has more yards than Cooper Cup, AJ Brown, and CD Lamb. So isn't that wild? That guy is a freak. As much as I don't want to like him, I do like him.
00:09:01
Speaker
I wish I could not like him because he plays for the Chiefs and they're great and all that kind of good stuff. But no, he's he's amazing. So I'll go ahead and give a sneak peek for next week, which is a next gen stacked question. No.
00:09:17
Speaker
So that usually has to do with a bunch of numbers. Dr. Math, you might be interested. Love stat. I love the stat. Usually like speed, velocity, they like go through all the numbers and angles and some of that crazy stuff. So I already found one for next week. So sneak peek for next Friday, next gen stat question. And so that concludes the basically the guess the stat segment of this episode. Love it. Love it. Love it. Love it.
00:09:48
Speaker
And you know, we didn't get it. That's okay. We both, there's only three choices and we miss both of it. That's tough. That's all right. We suck again.
New York Jets and 'Hard Knocks' Discussion
00:10:02
Speaker
All right. So next we're going to dive into our red flag alert. Now this is a cool segment Mason came up with where there's, there's times in football game, you don't, you know, a play happens and you don't really think that's how it really happened.
00:10:16
Speaker
the catch that really wasn't a catch a fumble that wasn't a fumble these are these these red flag challenges things that we're going to be doing is players that everyone seems to be hyping up or teams everyone's hyping up that we say no good i'm gonna throw a red flag on that guy because i think he sucks so i think mason's gonna kick us off here
00:10:36
Speaker
Absolutely, I got a good one here. Right around the corner, Hard Knocks will be premiering August 8th, and the team is the New York Jets. My brother. So there has been 19 teams on the show, Hard Knocks. Tens, Zach, do you want to guess how many of those teams out of the 19 have won their division that same year?
00:11:02
Speaker
Take a guess, or four. Uh, I, I, yeah, I was gonna say five.
00:11:13
Speaker
yeah five i'm gonna go five also it's kind of crazy that there's been 19 teams so one year two teams did it so i think it's been like 18 seasons which is crazy and then 19 teams have done it but um so zach was correct four teams four i'm gonna list them off real quick 2009 bangles 2013 bingles so they just need to be on it apparently all the times 2015 texans i forgot about well everybody forgets about the texans and then the 2021 cowboys
00:11:41
Speaker
There's a reason we'll go ahead. No, I was just say the Jets I guess the Jets didn't win it the year they were on there I know they went that was the other with the FC Championship game Yeah, so they got into the playoffs, but they were second in their wild card. Yeah, they were wild. Gotcha Are you talking the mark? I feel like if you're like a good team you don't want you don't want the media snooping around like you don't want cameras up in your facility if you're like
00:12:03
Speaker
A good yeah, well and they have they have rules on hard knocks too is you can't have made the playoffs the year before you can't have a like a first-year head coach I Think those are the only two actually so it makes sense It's not normally a team that has been successful like cuz they didn't make playoffs here before so it's probably a team That's not doing so well
00:12:25
Speaker
So Zach and Tenz must have read my notes because they would be correct. There's reasons why Rogers and Robert Sula don't want to be on the show. It adds pressure and obstacles to basically the beginning through the whole season. Here's the odds for them to win the division. It first starts out the favorites as the bills at plus 120.
00:12:48
Speaker
Then the jets at 270, the dolphins at 300, which I'm kind of shocked about, and then the Patriots. So I think the plus 270 is increased because of Rogers being there. But I definitely think that that's hyped up, especially since the cameras do add some pressure. And I think it just kind of, it shows, oh, I can't, I can't do what I can usually do because there's cameras. But I will kind of see, but it
00:13:17
Speaker
gives a reason of kind of see, or I guess it's going to show if they can kind of break the trend of not making and not winning the division. So, but I want to get your all's take on those odds there of what I just listed off. You had the Bills, Jets, Dolphins and Patriots in that order.
00:13:36
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's a tough division.
Concerns about Aaron Rodgers with the Jets
00:13:38
Speaker
Uh, I mean the bills Have won it a couple years in a row now the Patriots are kind of down kind of see what they do with mack jones uh dolphins have a lot of health concerns, but uh, I mean They they told them they weren't going to give them as much access this year during hard knocks like they're not going to let them
00:13:58
Speaker
film like players being released they're not giving them as much access in the locker room as they have in years past so it might not be as intense as before and I mean it's just it has to be an awkward thing to have cameras in your locker room at all times while you're trying to learn this system I mean Aaron Rodgers is
00:14:16
Speaker
is coming over his first year playing for them. And they've tried to make it as seamless as possible by bringing his old OC, Nathaniel Hackett in and things like that. But I do think there's just, there's so much pressure on the Jets making that big trade for Aaron Rodgers.
00:14:32
Speaker
Aaron Rodgers trying to show that he can do it without the Packers. I mean, so it makes sense that they wouldn't be the favorites just because the Bills are a very good team. But at plus 290, I don't know that that's even enough value to have what I would consider them to be a long shot to win that division. Yeah, for sure. I would definitely- You guys believe in Aaron Rodgers? Do you think he's going to succeed? Do you think he's going to fit into that system or do you think it's just going to struggle?
00:15:00
Speaker
I think the system there, I mean, they're going to make the system fit for him, but you're talking about a guy like father time is undefeated and sure. Tom Brady played into his middle forties and played well, but no one else has really done that.
00:15:17
Speaker
That often and Aaron Rodgers did have a down year last year and people want to say it was the receivers He had a lot of young receivers and things like that But I think he just regressed and he had a solid offensive line in front of him and the Jets have one of the worst offensive lines in the league Trying to block for him. He's not as mobile as you used to be. He's more injury-prone the older you get and he's trying to build chemistry with
00:15:42
Speaker
Garrett Wilson, who's who's a new target for him. They did bring over Alan Lazard from the Packers. It was like Aaron Rodgers was like, let me get all my buddies back on this team. Like, please go get all my friends. Like, I'm surprised Mercedes Lewis hasn't signed with them yet because he's still a free agent and he's been with Aaron for a few years up in Green Bay. But they went and got Randall Cobb, who
00:16:03
Speaker
I thought he was out of the league until we popped back up on the Packers roster last year. I was like, why is, I thought he retired. Like, where has this man been? So I don't know. I just don't, it feels like another, like what the Broncos were last year where they had so much hype and all this hope in Russell Wilson. And then they, NFL forced prime time game after prime time game on us of this team and put them in the spotlight. And then they failed and it's just like a big burst of the bubble.
00:16:33
Speaker
Can Aaron Rodgers do it all alone in a new system with the New York media breathing down his neck? I don't know, because I'm just not sure. The Jets are talented. They have great pieces, like I was talking about earlier. Garrett Wilson's an awesome receiver, but is that enough to help an aging quarterback?
00:16:52
Speaker
For sure. If I had to make a bet on this, I would probably go with the Dolphins as a dark horse with the ad of Jalen Ramsey. You got Tyree Kill still there. If Tua can stay healthy, I know you could probably hear this from any media outlet, because everybody's going to say that. If he could just stay healthy, then I think this team can click. And with that value, I think they're going to
00:17:15
Speaker
Come a close like second or i'm sorry close first to the bills. I really do. So I think they're gonna give them run for their money I don't I don't hate that pick. I I feel like that division any of the four could honestly win it I mean, I think the Patriots kind of a bounce back we've talked about the jets. I don't think they're
00:17:34
Speaker
going to run away with anything. I don't think the bills are either, to be honest. So yeah, I like that. That kind of leads into, I'm going to throw my red flag if you're cool with it. Go
Josh Allen's Performance Critique
00:17:44
Speaker
for it. Since we're talking about the NFC East. I saw what we're talking about the NFC East and I figured I'd go ahead and declare war on a certain quarterback.
00:17:54
Speaker
certain player that everyone in the world beloveds. And this guy, it's like he's just America's favorite quarterback. Well, not me, not this guy. Let me Josh Allen. I am so sick and tired of the Josh Allen hype just because he's six foot five and can run around a little bit and can throw the ball really far. Okay, that's great. You know what else Josh Allen did last year? He led the league in interceptions.
00:18:22
Speaker
Now, is that because he lost Brian Dayball as a offensive coordinator? I think so. Josh Allen had a rough rookie year. There were questions whether he could even be an NFL starter after his rookie year. They go and get Brian Dayball. Great coach. I mean, you saw what he did with Daniel Jones. He got Daniel Jones paid. That's true. What happens the first year after Brian Dayball leaves?
00:18:49
Speaker
Josh Allen goes back to being not good Josh Allen. He sucks again. He sucks again. So I would just like it to be known that Josh Allen is not in my top five quarterbacks. I have an official red flag on Josh Allen.
00:19:05
Speaker
And then I also think he's probably going to lead the league in interceptions again at plus 1000. That's not a future Friday pick. That's just a sprinkle dinkle. You know, if you're just, if you're like me, you're on the sports book, why, why do I not have an even amount in my account? Why do I have $53 and 88 cents? Take that three 88 and go put it on Josh Allen, the league, the league and interceptions once more. Cause I, he's just, he's careless with the football and I just, I'm down on him. He's not my top five.
00:19:36
Speaker
He might not even be top six. So you know what that says? Tins isn't drafting them in our fantasy football league. No. If you had to just office up your head, who are your top five? Can you throw them out there?
00:19:50
Speaker
Yeah, I'll give them to you in order to I'll give them to you in order and and I and if you people at home could see the faces They're making they think I'm gonna go just by the way. We'll just get this out of the way Yeah, there's a lot of hats back here I am I am I'm not just a Jaguars fan. I might be the biggest Jaguars fan in the world So they're expecting me to say Trevor Lawrence
00:20:15
Speaker
Um, who is 23 has so much football ahead of him. He'll have time to get up to number one on the list, but right now I'd go patching for homes. Joe burrow, Trevor, Trevor Lawrence, Jalen hurt. And then, you know, five, I mean, that's, that's where they want me to put Josh Allen, but I'm not going to. Oh, so that's where I probably go. Justin Herbert.
00:20:45
Speaker
Justin Herbert right there. What'd you say about Trevor Lawrence? I said I think where most people would put Josh Allen is where Trevor Lawrence is because Trevor Lawrence is a little further down than three probably. Hmm. Well, that's where most people are stupid.
00:21:06
Speaker
And here during the red flag challenge here, I'm just going to let you know that Josh Allen's not making the top five list from this guy all year.
Debate: Top NFL Quarterbacks List
00:21:14
Speaker
I don't care what he does. He could throw 70 touchdowns in zero interceptions. Still don't like him. So let me tell you who we're not sponsored by. We're not sponsored by the bills or Josh Allen. That's who we're not sponsored by. Listen, listen, I don't. True.
00:21:30
Speaker
Well, I mean, like, I have nothing against the Buffalo Bills. I think they have cool logo. Their fans seem like they're a fun time at games. I can't wait to go to the stadium one day, eat some Buffalo Wings. Like, I think it'll be a great experience. If I'm allowed there or not, I'm slandering Josh Allen, apparently. So they're going to probably hate me. I'm going to be blacklisted from the whole city.
00:21:52
Speaker
Which is that's off it. I'll figure your twin. You're trending on Twitter right now tens for that. That's fine. That's you know what? You don't have haters if you don't have fans so that's that's how I like to put it deep deep So it's gonna come back into our future Friday segment, you know There could be a couple future Friday pigs from now until the season starts that involve William Trevor Lawrence I don't know. I guess we'll just have to see
00:22:23
Speaker
Well, we're actually going to talk about that right now.
Betting on Trevor Lawrence's Touchdowns
00:22:26
Speaker
Good transition. Oh, good transition. Flawless transitions. Okay. So we're going to get into it. So we're going to go, you really want me to just start it out. We're going to come out guns blazing here. All right. Here's the thing. So future Fridays, Friday features, whatever you want to call it.
00:22:49
Speaker
if you have any money in your account, you're like, what do I need to do here? What are we doing? Don't invest in Apple. Don't invest in Disney. Don't invest in Coke. I don't know what investments are. Don't ask me, because I don't know anything about Robinhood or investing money. I invest money in William Trevor Lawrence.
00:23:13
Speaker
Now this bet you can only find at plus money that I have found on DraftKings. Everywhere else, they're smart. They have it at minus 110, minus 115. They don't want you to double your money really quick, but on DraftKings, they're really dumb and they have left it at plus 100, meaning you put a hundred on it, you're going to get a hundred back.
00:23:34
Speaker
And that is Trevor Lawrence to have over, you can't beat the deal with the sick. I promise you. I'm not even a sick, free money. No. This deal is comparable to the McPick 2. Like this is, it's, yeah. Yes, exactly. That's the best job on planet earth. This is bang for your buck.
00:23:54
Speaker
And it is, so it's Trevor Lawrence to have over 26 and a half touchdown passes. And like I said, it's plus 100. Now, here we go. We're going to get into the meat and bones of this bet. So talking about Trevor Lawrence stats, he had a rough first half of the season, but towards the last eight games, he had a touchdown to interception ratio of 15 to two.
00:24:17
Speaker
So it took a little bit to get used to Doug Peterson's system, build chemistry with Christian Kirk, Evan Ingram, all the new skill guys they had signed and still learning the offense from where he spent his rookie season with the worst head coach of NFL history and Urban Meyer. I don't know if everybody remembers that or not. That was abysmal. We like to forget about that. We do. People like to forget, but I don't forget.
00:24:42
Speaker
So Trevor ends up, his season stats end up at 25 and seven touchdowns interceptions. So we're literally, we're literally saying that a quarterback going into his third year, second year in an offense, we're asking him to throw for two more touchdowns than he had thrown the year before. Doesn't seem like a big crazy ask for me.
00:25:09
Speaker
Now you might say, well, the Jaguars, did they lose a bunch of their skill position guys? Did they get any better?
00:25:15
Speaker
Oh, I don't know. They just traded for a guy named Calvin Ridley, who if you don't know who that is, look him up. He was suspended for a year. We're not going to talk about that. But his last season, his last season with the Falcons with old man Matt Ryan throwing to him had over 1200 yards and seven touchdown catches. So add that to an offense that was already humming towards the second half of the year.
00:25:43
Speaker
And like I said, we're asking for two more touchdowns in the year before. I kind of wanted to put an example and we're going to talk about Carson Wentz, his second year in Doug Peterson's system with the Eagles. Carson Wentz was an MVP candidate. He had 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions, and he only played in 14 games.
00:26:06
Speaker
before he tore his ACL. I mean, this guy, this was before the downfall of Carson Wentz. He was on fire. Everyone was hyping him up to be the next best thing at quarterback in the league. He still, he finished that season with MVP votes and the Eagles offensive skill positions were nowhere near, in my opinion, what the Jags have with Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk.
00:26:27
Speaker
Evan Ingram and a good stable running backs. So that is why I'm throwing out 26 and a half touchdown passes at plus 100. Get it while you can. Cause I keep on betting it the way I am. DraftKings is going to have to move it to minus one 10 because my life savings is on it. I'm pretty sure I'm selling the spark right now to go put some money down on it.
00:26:53
Speaker
No more sparks. I want everyone to know that we recently went on a cruise and Tinsley was trying to convince random cruise people to take the same bet. I have been He believes in I believe it in my soul. I've never felt something Stronger than what I feel about this bet
00:27:13
Speaker
I've been telling strangers on the street. I was telling strangers like that said on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean Just random guys that look like they might be into sports betting. I was like, hey You want to get rich? Follow me so I'm gonna what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna start my own Facebook group of this bet and I'm just gonna see how many people are gonna follow me We're just gonna we're going to bankrupt draft Kings with this single bet right here
00:27:40
Speaker
They will they will they will shed tears for the day Whatever intern put in these odds at plus 100. He's getting fired. The guy is getting fired Tends if you had a ballpark I sound like how many units you got on this right now units See I hit it again last night. I think I have Like 75 units
00:28:08
Speaker
Like, uh, like, uh, responsibly a lot responsibly, always gamble responsibly, you know.
00:28:16
Speaker
It's just for entertainment. But if Trevor large doesn't throw 27 touchdown passes, you will see me on the corner with a bucket on the side on the streets. I know you guys are Titans fans, so you don't you don't want to hear this at all. And you're like, shut up about Trevor. But I mean,
00:28:39
Speaker
take that side of it out of your brains mason looking at you how does this i mean twenty six and a half touchdown passes where where do i go wrong here he gets to play the titans twice he might throw for ten right there
00:28:54
Speaker
I mean, it's true. All of those teams in our division. Tell me which defense is good. I got an answer for you. None of them. None of them, including the Jags. And yeah, so we shoot out then and just be right back. That's what I'm saying. And we also, we also get to play the NFC South, which I don't know if people at home are aware, but the NFC South is a dumpster fire. It's true.
00:29:21
Speaker
That's so That's I mean, that's all you need after hearing your argument. I i'm a little bit more convinced i'll be honest with you I mean you almost can almost that that takes a lot because zach only bets things that he 100 knows are gonna win Which is good because zach's future friday. I cannot wait to hear it because it is a doozy and I have already smashed it
00:29:46
Speaker
I'll tell the people I have exactly one open bet and my draft kings count. It's this one One feature and I it's riding. Oh, it's all riding on this one And so just just to kind of delay our cards on the table.
Joe Milton's Heisman Trophy Potential
00:30:00
Speaker
I am a diehard Tennessee balls fan and I always have been and so, you know who's to say maybe it's influencing me a little bit maybe in the same way that tens is and
00:30:11
Speaker
Jags fandom is influenced him to think Trevor Lawrence is some kind of godlike football player and not just maybe a mediocre quarterback in the league who knows but Have you seen his hair? It's true man has been touched by God himself so Here's where I'm at I'm on the Joe Milton Heisman campaign plus 2,500 right now
00:30:39
Speaker
And here's why, let me give you a couple of ideas here. First of all, Hinden Hooker last year in Hyples offense, he doesn't get injured against South Carolina, and I think we may very well be looking at a Heisman Trophy, our very first one for the University of Tennessee, ever, Peyton Manning got snubbed.
00:30:59
Speaker
This offense is just next level for a quarterback. It's perfect for putting up those huge numbers that look good on the Heisman ballots. Big touchdown numbers. Big massive yards with the huge bulk plays that we know Joe Milton's going to be throwing. Let me give you one stat from last season. Joe Milton didn't play a ton because obviously, Hendon Hooker was the starter, but he did play in the bowl game. He played in the last couple games of the season, some big games. Beat Clemson in a bowl game, obviously.
00:31:25
Speaker
And here's the stats. He threw for 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He had zero interceptions in his entire Tennessee career, actually. He's never done an interception. And he had 10 touchdowns last year in just a few games. And so here's where I'm at. I think he's going to put up some staggering numbers. We have a tough schedule, obviously. Georgia, Bama, Florida. I mean, it's truly a terrible schedule, always. But I think he's got a chance.
00:31:53
Speaker
I think he could put together a special season. We obviously know his athleticism, his arm strength is next to none in the country. I think the question is going to be, can he put together some of the accuracy? Can he make some of the good plays, the smart plays? Can he not make mistakes? Can he hit his open receivers? And if he does that,
00:32:13
Speaker
I'm just telling you, I think, I think something's brewing up there in Knoxville and I think, uh, he's got a shot at the Heisman plus 2,500. I think it's a good bet. And if Joe Milton shines against this gauntlet of a schedule compared to some of the rinky dink, like pack 12 or like some of the easier schedules, then they're just going to be like, he showed out against really tough defenses where other quarterbacks didn't even play them.
00:32:40
Speaker
Yep. I love it. I know me and Mason had hidden hooker last year. Plus he was at plus 4,000 this time last year. So, um, so he was the faith. He was the favorite going into the South Carolina game. I mean, me and Mason were, we're essentially counting our chickens and unfortunately he got hurt. Well, you never cash out. That's the number one rule in this podcast. You never cash out. Um,
00:33:05
Speaker
But no, I definitely agree. I think if Joe Milton can have a similar season to what Hendon Hooker did last year at plus 2,500, that's definitely worth. That's a good, I like to have bigger number of futures because then when it hits, it's a lot more fun. You're more than doubling your money and things like that. So it makes it more fun, the root on, and then also it being our favorite team, your favorite team especially.
00:33:30
Speaker
It's just something else to root for all year and Hyples offense is great for quarterbacks. His receiver, he schemes receivers open like no one else in the country. And really the only other person with any Heisman hype would be Caleb Williams. They don't like to give people a Heisman two years in a row. It's just very hard for them to swallow that pill and do that.
00:33:52
Speaker
And so I think if Milton has a similar season to what Hendon Hooker did last year or even better, then I don't see why you can't be cashing that ticket and getting that Heisman Trophy in New York come January or whatever the award is. I don't remember when it is. I do have some other numbers to throw out. It's Caleb Williams is at plus 550 right now. We have some other notable names. Bo Nix is still up there. How is he still even? I don't know. How is he still in college? Good eligibility.
00:34:22
Speaker
Um, Drake may North Carolina guy, Marvin Harrison Jr. Uh, obviously got passed over for the, um, the bullet and the cough award last year, um, by Jalen Hyatt. So that's pretty cool. And then you got Joe Milton coming in at plus 2,500. Um, so he's in the top four as far as odds go. I was skipping the number 18.
00:34:51
Speaker
Oh, okay. Wow. That's crazy. That's crazy to me. What's 2,500? Yeah. I mean, that's pretty, pretty big odds. I mean, but he is untested for the most part. I mean, he played well against Clemson, but that Clemson team was pretty beaten up as well. So they were not a bad team, but not the same Clemson team that we've seen in years past for sure. So who knows? I mean, not defense wasn't as good as some that we're going to face this year.
00:35:16
Speaker
We watched plays. We also lost some big water shoes. Jalen hides in the NFL, obviously, so it's such a two-man zone.
00:35:22
Speaker
Well, that leads to my, we watched plays where Joe Milton would overthrow the receiver by 15, 20, even 30 yards. You know whose fault that is? The receivers need to be faster. They need to get to the ball. He just throws, just launch it, just throw it, chuck it. Cause I remember seeing a play where he was on his back foot, running out of the pocket and slings it like 50 yards, 60 yards, like no problem. So.
00:35:50
Speaker
Some other podcast say that he he can throw over 90 yards They asked him. What is what is max? What is max throw as and he said it was in the 90s Just help Mary every play count. It's always gonna see it All right Mason what do you got for us
00:36:08
Speaker
All right, so we were talking about division winners earlier.
Vikings' NFC North Chances
00:36:12
Speaker
What I wanna do is change from shift over from the AFC East division to the NFC North division. For my official future Friday pick, I'm gonna go with the Vikings to win the NFC North at plus 290. I'm shocked by the odds, to be honest. The Lions are the favorites to win the division at plus 140.
00:36:36
Speaker
Do you want to know when the last time the Lions won the division? You guys take a guess. Just take a guess. I'm going to go with 1995. Zach. 2002. The year me and Tenz was born. 1993. You want to know how old we're turning this year?
00:36:57
Speaker
Bless America. We're turning 30. I get it. Dan Campbell and that team is a whole lot of fun to root for. They've been a joke of a franchise. You know how many times I've watched them on Thanksgiving and was like, is there anything better on, or should I just turn this off?
00:37:15
Speaker
So they've been a joke. So they ended the Packers playoffs hopes the last game of the season. So I get it. Everybody wants to root for them. They're fun to root for. However, did we forget about the Vikings? 13-4 last year. Out of the 13 wins in close one score games, the Vikings went 11-0. So one score games, they came in the clutch and went 11-0, won every game and one score games.
00:37:45
Speaker
They also, if you all remember, had the biggest comeback in NFL history against the Colts to force overtime. What was that, like a 30? What was it, 32, 30? Something crazy. Yeah. I put that stat in here, but... As someone who lives, who loves live bets, I remember it. Yeah. It was nice. It was a nice afternoon.
00:38:09
Speaker
In a field goal or less, they went 5-0, so they won their games, all five of them, a field goal or less. They went to overtime twice, which one-on-one was a big comeback, and they won both of those overtime games. I get it. I'm giving you last year's stats. But what it shows is that Kirk Cousin and Kevin O'Connell are really good when it comes to close games. They know how to be clutch.
00:38:34
Speaker
And when the clock is winding down, at least in the 2022 season, they show that they could pull out the win. I mentioned earlier who led the league in most receiving yards in the last three seasons, Justin Jefferson. You want to know which team he's on? Minnesota Vikings. So I got plenty of points here to throw out. I just really like that stat. And everybody's like, Mason, don't forget about the Packers. They got Jordan Love, the transition over.
00:39:00
Speaker
Mason don't forget about the Bears. They're still on rebuild mode with getting DJ more We're gonna find out if Jordan love and Justin Fields can ball out I know that Kirk Cousins when Tom comes and he's fun to root for because if you watch the quarterback on Netflix He's just a fun guy to root for so that's what it's that's my pick. What do you guys think? I uh, I when I saw that this is what you were picking I kind of dove into it. I really like
00:39:31
Speaker
I like what you're talking about with the odds, plus 2-90. The division, I think, is weak. I don't think the Lions have anything they're really offered. They're fun. Dan Campbell has cool sayings. The team's going to bite people's kneecaps off and stuff. That's funny, I guess. But I don't see Jared Goff being someone I'm really worried about. And for them to be at plus 165? Let me go back up. It was plus 140.
00:39:58
Speaker
Yeah, that's that's crazy. So plus 290 for the Vikings I think is a great price. You've got Justin Jefferson and they drafted
00:40:06
Speaker
who could have been, you could argue, maybe the best receiver in this year's NFL Draft in Jordan Addison, who's a very good slot receiver. He's gonna help free up Justin Jefferson and clear coverage for him. The only concern I have with this bet is they didn't do very much to upgrade their defense, and that was one of the weaknesses last year. They were kind of a weak defense, and their offensive line has a lot of question marks too.
00:40:36
Speaker
if you watch the quarterback series on Netflix.
00:40:40
Speaker
you saw where Kirk Cousins was kind of having the deal with some busted ribs, rib injury throughout the end of the year. And you would think they would have invested more on the offensive line, but they just brought back the unit. They resigned everyone that was a free agent and then they didn't go get anyone. They didn't draft anyone. So that'd be my one concern, but it plus 290 was really the only, I think the only competition being the Lions who I think are just not there yet.
00:41:09
Speaker
I love it. And I think they upgraded it running back to by cutting down and cook. You've got Todd Chandler and Madison. Yeah, I think they're gonna be a great one to punch.
00:41:20
Speaker
Yeah, so that's when I had Madison on my team and like fantasy team, he would always go for like almost 100 yards, if not more, and then a couple of touchdowns. And Todd Chandler there. So when people know the name, Dalvin Cook, they're like, oh man, they lost a good player, which I think that they did, but they really know how to replace them with those two running backs. So I think they'll do a good job.
00:41:46
Speaker
I do have, I do have one question. You said that Kirk cousins is a fun guy to root for. He's, he's kind of the most boring quarterback in the NFL. He's a dorky dad that goes, Oh man, I burned my shirt.
00:42:03
Speaker
When he's sitting next to our place. Yeah. He was like, this is my favorite sweatshirt. Yep. So he does things like that where it's like incredibly nerdy. And if you watch it, you'll know what I'm talking about. Patrick from my homes is like full on very cocky and yelling and screaming and cussing. And then you got nerdy with the yellow dad shirt out there. I think it's fun to root for. I think it's hilarious.
00:42:29
Speaker
All right, so that is gonna do it for our Friday features picks for this week. I feel like we've given out some great money investments. I mean, we gave out a plus 100, a plus 2,500, and plus 290. I don't know if your book allows it, but I'm sure if you go and parlay those three together, you're looking at a great time. And I've never been one to turn down a parlay.
00:42:59
Speaker
So make sure you get these picks in before the season starts or before this odds changes because everyone's about to be hopping on these with us.
