Zack: Apparently, and just seemed like a bad situation there. um Yeah, I don't know. That was just the first thing that came to my mind of like news.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: touch Yeah, tough for Tyreek Hill. Normally, whenever someone has like a really bad grisome injury online, everybody's like, oh, man, praying for Tyreek Hill. What a good guy But everybody was just kind of like, oh, man, that's that's a tough injury.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Saturday, i was we went to a sports bar to watch the game.
Mason: I did see that.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: the The restaurant was very full, so we sat at the bar to be able to watch the games and get service and to eat and all that good stuff. The wings were amazing. Shout out... ah I forget.

Zack: Mmm.

Zack: Let's go out.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: um Guys next to me were really interested in the Ole Miss and LSU game. I was also very interested in it. Shout out. I said LSU for the win. Check.
Zack: This is when?
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Um, but then when, and the UT game was on too. So we had both of those and then some random Ohio state fan came after halftime and was like, can we turn one of these into, well, really what happened was there's also old, old couples sitting there watching baseball on the third TV.
Zack: No.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: So had three TVs. And they wanted baseball. And they went and changed it because they asked and they were there first. was like, whatever. We're watching football. And no one was speaking up about the two football games. And this guy was like, well, can we change it to Ohio State? And the bartender is about to change it. And then he asked me.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: He was like, are you watching these? I said, yeah. i'm watching like We're watching these. And the customer who just got there after I've already spent lots of money on food was like, well, you can move. And then I just pointed at his Ohio state game behind me somewhere else in the bar.
Zack: wrong
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: And i was like, well, you can over there.
Zack: Got him.
Mason: How'd that work out for you?
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: He went over there.
Mason: Oh.
Zack: He knew better.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: And then I got my order of fish tacos, which were fine.
Mason: Send him a talkback. Okay. Great. How many entrees did you have? How many total plates of food did you have?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: i got I got all five flavors of the wings they had, and then I got the fish tacos.

Zack: I think at some point we need to rank, do a power ranking of maybe across all sports of least pleasant fans of like which teams to interact with. Cause Ohio state fans are high on the list.

Zack: It's, and it's like, it's not because of demographics or anything. It's because they've like won so much that they just have a certain, like, yeah, and they, they just like, if I wear this, I I'm better than you.
Mason: I feel privileged.

Zack: Alabama kind of has the same vibe, but Ohio State's worse, honestly.

Zack: Notre Dame is just delusional.

Zack: Who?
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: 49ers fans. They're pretty bad.
Zack: I believe that.
Mason: So, and yeah, so tell that story then. Now we got to hear that.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: this guy had Robbie gold Jersey. I walk in this restaurant and there he is. and I immediately made eye contact. I was like, all right, so this guy's going a problem here in about an hour and a half when the game starts.
Mason: Were you wearing Jags?
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Um,
Mason: Get up.
Zack: What do you think, Mason?
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I just had a Jags hat on. I just had a hat. I wasn't trying to be real flashy.
Mason: Wow. He didn't have full bone.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I wasn't trying to draw attention to myself. i didn't think that I didn't think I'd run into a 49ers fan. There's actually like three other Jags fans walked in like when the game started. I was like, what in the world is going on? I'm in Asheville, in North Carolina.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Anyway, we shared a quick Duval and and went about our our business.
Zack: Heck yeah.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: But yeah, this guy...
Mason: You mean Duvall.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Win a game and win a game and you can you can make jokes.
Mason: You said it like that, right?
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Cam Ward. Because I'll just keep it a buck.
Mason: but so i got
Zack: We're tanking tins. It's fine.

Mason: It's fine. We're doing this on purpose. Don't worry about us. See, you can't hurt us. We're already we already feel pain we're numb to pain at this point.

Zack: Not even a little bit. I guys literally don't.
Mason: No, I'm fine. He had to ask who we played this week, and I said, I don't even know. so so it sting. I'm fine. I'm completely fine. Focus on my fantasy and play some bets. So there you go.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: critical third down play. We get called for false start. He turns around and looks at me and goes, ah and that's when I told Morgan, I said, all right, he's, he's done enough. He keeps looking back this whole game.
Mason: Thank you.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: He keeps looking at me. keeps making, I said, I'm, I'm, I've had enough. She said, do not cause a scene in this restaurant. said too late. We convert the third down. I literally stand up and went, Oh man.
Zack: I believe that.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: And then after that, I was really loud obnoxious about everything else the rest of the game. He did come shake my hand when Parker Washington returned the punt for a touchdown. He said, good good game. It's over.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: was all right, man.
Zack: Wow.

Zack: He shook your hand.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Shaked my hand. So that's, you know, I'll give him that.
Zack: What a gentleman.
Mason: So when you're president, you said you were going to, you know, throw Jason Kelsey in prison or ban him or terrorists or whatever.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Didn't say that.
Zack: I'm going to throw all 49 fans into the fire.

Mason: No, no. I was going to say, where's Robert Sala on that list?
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I don't need to worry about Robert Sala. We took care of him. We packed we packed up his lunch. I can't help that he was he got his feelings hurt because he got fired after the Vikings destroyed him when he was the Jets last year. And then our offensive coordinator may have worked for the Vikings last year, so he had to bring it up.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Wasn't even asked about that. The reporter, when all this started, asked him about how losing Joey Bosa or Nick Bosa was going to affect their defense. He went out of his way to try to take shots at us.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: You know what? We got the dub. Their fans and media are still talking about it. We've moved on to the chiefs. They need to worry about the Rams.
Mason: You're going to be at that game, right? In Jacksonville against the Chiefs, right?
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: You know, so some people are saying there might be a 10s sighting in the stadium.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I mean, let's just say I did call my shot. I said the avalanche is coming. We're going to beat the 49ers. And then guess what? That happened. What did I say was going to happen after that?
Mason: Because if you're not at that what did he say? If you're not at that game and they lose, you got to blame it on yourself at this point.

Mason: So you got to be there.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: You're trying to put way too much pressure on me. why don't you go help your team out one time?
Mason: where're trying to put You're trying to put 1% of pressure on us and we're not even feeling anything. so
Zack: That is true.

Zack: Yeah, I feel. I think that i think that once Callahan gets fired, we're going to win a couple.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Just before we dive in, I know last weekend was like labeled the the um sports weekend of of the century.
Zack: Yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Huge college games, really big NFL matchups. And it was. It great football weekend. Ryder Cup. Who cares about golf? um Europe won, I think. Something like that.
Zack: Fact.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: ah Doesn't count. that's how i That's how I'm thinking of it. Yeah. This weekend is like the sneaky, the sneaky. Oh, oh man.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Nothing can top last weekend, but there's some really good games this weekend. I know we're about to dive into them, but I hope everyone's ready to be on the couch for 14 hours on Saturday. um You can maybe take a break on Sunday. Sunday's not looking as good, but this college slate is packed.
Zack: Yeah. Yeah.

Mason: Player watch. Okay, I'm going to go with, and I did this last week with starting rookie quarterback, so I'm going to do this again. I'm going with another rookie to get his first start. And that's Dylan Gabriel starting for the Cleveland Browns.
Mason: ah Just curious curious to see how he plays, but also how the Browns handle this Shador Sanders, Dylan Gabriel situation, how long, how many chances he will get.

Mason: I did this last week and I enjoyed it and I threw out the ah Jackson Dart rushing touchdown, even though I didn't even freaking take it. But ah because I broke down the preseason games, but just real quick, he was hurt with a hamstring injury. The first preseason games of the stats for the two preseason games was 25 completions out of 37 attempts for 272 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Mason: So small sample size, a little less than Jackson Dart, but just curious to see how he plays and how he does on the Browns.
Zack: Love it.
Mason: Bad of what they did to Flacco, my guy. He needs to get on the Bengals or something.

Zack: I would... If I were running that offense, I would be handing the ball off to Jamar Chase. We'd be running screens all day. it would That's all it would be.
Mason: give him the ball somehow.
Zack: like Jamar Chase, we're going to get you the ball and just go break tackles.

Zack: um I will get my player to watch here, though. um It's actually two players. I've kind of been doing these quarterback matchups to my player to watch because I think they're fun. um This week,
Zack: we're going to the state of Alabama. ah Diego Pavia travels to face Ty Simpson.

Zack: And what is, what a weird matchup here, but we have two quarterbacks who are playing very well. Diego Pavia, obviously a veteran guy leading this Vanderbilt team to a five and O start.
Zack: They have played some inferior competition so far. So we first test, obviously game day is going to be here. It's going be a huge matchup. um I do not anticipate this. I think,
Zack: I think I was going to win this pretty easily, to be honest with you. Um, yeah, see ah what tends his face that the take has been Vandy's got a chance and blah, blah, blah. Uh, here's the problem with Vanderbilt this year. Let me tell you, you want to hear it.

Mason: Let's hear it.
Zack: They're not taking anybody by surprise this season. You think I've been sleeping into this game. I'm just trying to promise you they're not, uh, they're not going to play around as Vandy team. Vandy is much better than they have been in the past.
Zack: Diego Pavi is fun.
Zack: i just I think everyone's going win. That's not what I'm talking about I'm talking about matchup to watch. I'm talking about Diego Pavia matching up against Ty Simpson. Both of these are playing very well.

Zack: Both quarterbacks are kind of entered into the Heisman running to some degree, I think. Obviously, Bama coming off a big win against Georgia. A little bit of a letdown spot, potentially. like But I just think it's not going to happen here.
Zack: But a fun fun battle against some quarterbacks who have been playing very well lately.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah, ah Ty Simpson went from plus 2,000 to a plus 900 after the Georgia game.
Zack: Yeah. yeah
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: um He's really bounced back ever since the opening game against Florida State. he's like he He looks good. They've kind of they found their level. i don't I mean, i we've talked about enough.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I don't think Bama's just going to run over people anymore like they used to. but Ooh, let's talk about it.
Zack: No one wants to talk about this, but I'm going to talk about it. The Heisman rankings are literally just like, who is the quarterback on the top teams? And then it's like, they're literally ranked just following the AP poll.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.
Zack: If you look at it, it's it's just like, here are the top teams in the nation. These are their quarterbacks. Because they're on the best teams, they have to be in the running for, I fundamentally disagree with the Heisman being like that, but.

Zack: That's where we're at right now. Carson Beck, he's on a good team.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I agree with you.
Zack: He does not deserve it. What has he done to deserve the Heisman other than just be on a good team?
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yep. I agree. And that was part of the reason why I said last week, if you thought Oregon was going to win, then go ahead and take Deontay Moore because he's been good, but like,
Zack: i mean, Dante Moore's been good. He has. I mean, he's looked good. Not like incredible.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: No one's put up a Heisman. like Even at this point last year, you started talking about Gentry. You started talking about Travis like a little bit. like okay like like There were some contenders where they were doing like good performances and having breakout games.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: No one's had that this year um so far.
Zack: Yeah.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: And I think right now, since we're on Heisman Talk,
Zack: There's some good wide receivers, but none of them are. Yeah.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: this would be the time to take Jeremiah Smith right now because eventually Ohio State should just start buzzsawing some people. And it only takes like one 200-yard receiving game with two touchdowns where he separates himself from all these quarterbacks that are just not doing enough.
Mason: He's plus a thousand.
Zack: I'm going to give you another name, Tins.

Zack: Mason, I thought you were going to say a second ago, another Jeremiah, Jeremiah Love for Notre Dame, just had like four touchdowns against Arkansas.

Zack: He did bring over a bunch of his – I feel like a lot of the teams I've covered have had the same kind of storyline. they They brought over a lot of coaches and players with them as they go. You're not really paying for a coach anymore. You're paying for like ah half of a roster as well.
Zack: um a But he brought a couple of people with him, including their quarterback, who is kind of their – Their biggest name, Jack Lane. ah He came from Idaho. He threw for like 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns at Idaho last year.
Zack: He's had a good season so far. He definitely has been kind of highlight. um They've got a couple of other people. They lost some players. One of their running backs went to USC. One of their quarterback went to Utah.
Zack: um They had a safety with Virginia virginia Tech. So they've they've had some significant talent move out with this head coaching change. um But that happens, you know, um when you have something like that go on.
Zack: ah They were projected to win 3.6 wins with 2.2 in conference by ESPN's FPI, which we know is really accurate all the time. ah This team is already 3-1.
Zack: ah So that feels that feels pretty good with their only loss ah being to Michigan. At Michigan is the first game of the season. So other than that, they've had a very good season. They beat a Power 4 team in UCLA.
Zack: um, they have, they've really kind of played better than what their record, uh, what they were projected to, um pass yards, like their passing game looks pretty good. I will say their, their run game is probably their biggest strength. They have a ah committee at running back.
Zack: Um, obviously with a line of 58 and a half, they, we expect this game to be pretty high scoring. Um, just that's I think what has become another storyline, unless you're a Bush Jones coach team, lot of these teams are high offense, um low defensive ah kind of strengths, just because I think, you know, if if you're building a program like this, you spend a lot of money or whatever on trying to get ah a good quarterback, a good running back, couple good receivers, and then the defense tends to drop off. But that's a fun team going on the road to San Jose State.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: He's really the only big standout player. um They had a true freshman quarterback who is local, C.J. Lee, who they wanted to kind of come in and compete for the job, but he got hurt in training camp.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: And so they had to go with Will Eggert – or, sorry, Walker Eggert, who is a senior. He's been here all four years. He started the second half of last year was his first time playing.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: And then he is the starter this year. He is thrown for 1,200 yards, six touchdowns, three interceptions. um They're averaging 24 points per game, which isn't terrible by any means.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: But when you get to play Central Michigan and Idaho and Stanford, you should put up some more points than that. 13 total touchdowns on the year.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I just i don't like this team at all, honestly. They are the home team. This is the second year under their head coach, first year with both their coordinators. i just don't feel like they got any juice. I don't i don't know.
Next Guy Up Podcast Network: they don't They didn't have a lot of transfers come into the school this year, um so it's just kind of a lot of whole like guys they brought in from the year before um when the coach was hired, and I just don't see it.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: And I think with New Mexico, new coach coming in they've got the big win. They got the big win over UCLA. They're feeling good about themselves. They've got some juice to them this season.
