Mason: What is up everybody? Welcome to the Next Guy Up podcast with Zach.

Zack: What up?

Mason: There's Zach there, Tens, and you're yourself, Mason. How's everybody doing, everybody?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: yourself, Mason.

Zack: Yourself.

Mason: Yourself, myself, yourself.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yourself.

Zack: What an intro, Mason.

Mason: I got rattled because I literally was like, I'll take it. I'll take the lead. and then

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: i I hit start.

Mason: But here we are.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Mason said, who's doing it? I'm doing it within a millisecond of each other.

Zack: ah like the decisiveness, though. He took over. Yeah.

Mason: So can we all make it, speaking of decisiveness, can we just throw week zero out of just all things known to mankind and just, this is real football here.

Zack: Yeah.

Mason: Week zero is just a disappointment.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: ah

Mason: And

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Kansas state kasas State got an L. What are you talking about?

Mason: ah

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: That counted.

Mason: ah did count, but nobody was plugged in.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: was a Big 12 loss, too.

Zack: That's true. yeah

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I would like to not throw that out.

Mason: Like, is that your surprise of the week? Something from two weeks ago.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: No, that's not my surprise. i just I very much care about what's going on in the Big 12, and Kansas State getting a conference loss is a big deal.

Mason: Oh, yeah. That's a good point. That is a big deal. But it ah as it came to like excitement and enjoyment, it was not and comes nowhere close to week one.

Mason: And we're here. We made it.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Well, I mean, yeah, obviously. Mason's just trying to get rid of football again.

Mason: No, that's not the case.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Just because he was...

Mason: We either go all in on week zero or we we get rid of it.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: he was

Mason: We don't do this in the middle where it's kind of good, but not really.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: No. This guy was on a cruise in Alaska.

Mason: That's a good point.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: That's why he didn't care about Week Zero. Trying to get rid of football for the rest of us.

Mason: Well, I was wondering, did I miss anything? And does it Kansas State? Whoop-de-doo. That's the only thing I missed, apparently. like

Zack: Wow, this guy.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: This guy. That's a big game for people that bet on conference championship contenders.

Zack: That's true, Mason.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Kansas State was the favorite. That's

Mason: a good point. Okay, well, we started out the gate.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: an excellent point. This guy. Once again, Mason's trying to get rid of football. I think you did this last year, too.

Mason: That is not the case.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: You're like, do we really need week zero?

Zack: He's like, guys, what if we had less football?

Mason: I just want a better week zero if we're going to do it. That's good point.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Take what you get, man. Like I said, come come June, you're begging for anything. Any football.

Zack: True.

Mason: We were begging for preseason.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: And here you are trying to get rid of it.

Mason: i don't know how much you...

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: You're trying to get rid of football.

Mason: Well, NFL is this week as well. Not trying to get rid of that.

Zack: Hmm.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yes. No.

Mason: ah So we'll we'll definitely...

Zack: Not yet.

Mason: i I won't be getting rid of that. And college football, we have a lot to talk about. So do we want to do we want to jump on in everybody on some college football?

Zack: Love it.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah, back back back where we belong, football season.

Zack: No.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: this what this This pod, you know, we're not big basketball, NBA guys. We're not baseball guys at all.

Zack: no

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: ah Not hockey or tennis as well, but when it's when it's football time, we're here. We've got some content for you. We've been cooking.

Zack: Oh, yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Got some ideas. But yeah, big stuff.

Zack: we do have We do have a lot in the pipeline. We had a lot of football this weekend.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yes.

Zack: We were just talking about before how it was yet football Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. We're recording this on Monday evening as we speak. Bill Belichick is making his coaching debut.

Zack: I'm speaking it into existence in the could age really bad, really fast take of the year. Shout out the North Carolina Targets for Bill Belichick's first win as a college coach.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: need it so some of us got some big features on North Carolina for some reason

Zack: Oh, I know why.

Mason: For

Zack: let's stop I can't talk about that. Every take I say is just going to age poorly if they lose. So we're just going to scoot past that one.

Mason: for the listeners, it's tied 7-7 in the first quarter, so just ended.

Zack: It's a tie game. So we're all good.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: it's four quarters in a football game last time I checked

Zack: There's so many quarters. We had a lot of, we had some big games. We had Ohio State, Texas. We had Clemson, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame. ah We had some big stuff go down. We had some four top 10 teams in total lose in week one.

Zack: That's a lot of top 10 teams. So we had some interesting stuff. We are going to break down all of the action and we have decided on kind of our framework for talking about the games this season.

Zack: We have some superlatives we're going to give out for the football that we have watched over the course of the weekend. Right now it's only college, so all three of us are giving college takes.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: right.

Zack: um So we have four superlatives, including Mason.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Including Mason.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Big college football guy.

Mason: i did i did I did my homework.

Zack: Famous hater of college football.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Famous, going out and doing things all days on Saturdays and not watching college football.

Zack: What's less college football?

Mason: i actually watched some games this weekend. i know what I'm...

Zack: Oh, wow.

Mason: Yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Mason will be out at a pumpkin patch soon, missing college football, while me and Zach are ignoring our families watching Houston versus Louisiana Tech or something crazy.

Zack: Can't wait.

Mason: Yeah.

Mason: Did I do something like that last year? i feel like you're actually probably right about that.

Zack: um

Mason: Listen, go ahead.

Zack: So we have, um we're adding a wrinkle in this year.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: It was right.

Zack: This is, ah we get with this idea. may be a really bad one. um Here is the idea. ah so there's four superlatives. um Here, those superlatives are for game of the week, performance of the week, surprise of the week, and fraud of the week.

Zack: And so here's how these superlatives are going to go. ah Each of us are going to pick our nomination with the wrinkle of if one of us, so we have to pick beforehand,

Zack: if one of us picks the same thing as one of the other two guys on this podcast, ah I think what we need to do is the, every time that you pick the same as someone else, both of you get point.

Zack: And at the end of the season, whoever has the most points total has to do a punishment of some sort.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: punishment. I absolutely love this.

Mason: I love a good punishment.

Zack: So, um so what we're going to is every time. So let's say that tens and I both pick the same game of the week. Um, isn't there, there's like there's like a childhood game like this where you, you say numbers, right?

Zack: Or whatever. And you, if you can't say them at the same time, it's kind of the same idea here.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: yeah.

Zack: Um, we can't pick the same game or else we both get a point.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: Uh, it's an honor system, Mason.

Mason: We...

Zack: So you have to, you can't change stuff as we go. Talking to Mason. Um,

Mason: why would i Why am I targeted? i have it on a notepad right now.

Zack: I don't know. Mason is the one that I'm concerned about because he's going to go fully NFL. um It's going to be hard to get him points.

Mason: Oh, yeah. We can maybe do college just college for that.

Zack: I don't know.

Mason: We can figure it out.

Zack: There could be some.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Mason: um

Zack: Yeah.

Mason: ah What you were talking about just then, about like if people get the same... We played a game in like elementary school. Just quick story. where you put like your hands behind your back, and when you put your hands out, you had a number, and if you matched with somebody else, you were out.

Zack: Okay. Okay.

Mason: So ah that was the thing.

Zack: Yeah, it's like that.

Mason: Yeah, just like it.

Zack: ah So the um the idea is that we know there's a lot of sports podcasts out there. There's some great content out there. ah We want to make sure we're covering the stuff that ah we don't want to just replay the same talking points as everybody else. We want to we want to give our spin.

Zack: We want to talk about the games. We're going to we're introducing a new segment starting in the our end of week episode that we'll be willll be showing then. But we're going to talk about some interesting games that we that we thought were fun.

Zack: Ohio State, Texas, not the only game this weekend.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: You'll be shocked to hear. There's a lot of football. So we're going to talk about some stuff. I'm pretty excited. Are you two ready, ready to roll?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah, I'm ready. I got my notepad ready.

Mason: Let's do it.

Zack: um OK, so we're starting with game of the week. I'm pretty concerned to hear out the outset, I'll be honest with you.

Zack: Okay, let's just go one at a time through the game of the week and and we'll see if we have any the over crossover. then Then we'll spend a little bit time with each one. Are you ready?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: All right. Yep. Ready.

Zack: Okay, Mason, what'd you pick here?

Mason: I picked Auburn versus Baylor as my game of the week.

Zack: Great pick.

Mason: jackson Jackson Arnold had 137 yards rushing, two touchdowns. i think there was either kickoff or a long punt. Let me look. It was a special teams touchdown.

Mason: A 98-yard kickoff return. And the Baylor quarterback, he had over 400 yards throwing in that game. 419. Sawyer Robertson had 419 yards.

Zack: Mm.

Mason: Auburn had four hundred and nineteen yards

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: How much of that game did you watch Friday night?

Mason: auburn

Mason: Well, we got back that night. So that was actually the game that I ended up watching because I got that.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Okay.

Zack: Nice.

Mason: Yeah, and I didn't see any on Thursday. So I was very len I was like, oh, can't watch in those. So we did. That was one of the games that I watched. So high scoring game, 38 to 24 ish high scoring.

Mason: It wasn't like the Texas Ohio State game.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah, over hit.

Mason: um So that is my game of the week.

Zack: Mm.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Garbage.

Zack: Okay, love it. Tens, what did you pick?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: right, I went with Miami and Notre Dame. ah Close.

Zack: Oh, no. That got my tens.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Ah, great.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: ah

Mason: There it is.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: There was. All right. Truly ah ah ah good back and forth game.

Mason: We're starting out strong.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Miami up two scores going into the fourth quarter. Young freshman quarterback, CJ Carr, brings them back ah in a two-minute drill, ties up the game, but left too much time on the clock.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: And Miami finds a way to go hit a field goal and win the thing.

Zack: love it.

Zack: Carson Beck.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: My guy's back.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Oh, Zach is all over Miami this year after I needed him last year to be this way.

Zack: Big Miami guy.

Zack: Florida State are back.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: i am um I think I might love Florida State. Just as a sidebar.

Zack: Okay. So, yeah, while we're... So, I'm going to give my game, and I'm going to lump it into my... um my performance of the week as well.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Okay.

Zack: Uh, well, so tens, I will say tens had my game of the week. So we both got a point on that one.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: We both got a point there.

Zack: Uh, we started off early.

Mason: Yeah.

Zack: Um, I'm going to give my second place cause this, I was toying between two. I really thought it's my pick this other one. So that's why i didn't pick it. Uh, Georgia tech, Colorado, very fun game.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: It was a fun game.

Zack: Um, and there was a very back and forth. It was in color. I wasn't, it was an awesome atmosphere. um And so that was my second place game of the week. But I'm going to go ahead and give my performance of the week um on top of it. Haynes King, quarterback for Georgia Tech.

Zack: Tins, did you pick that too?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: No, that would have been...

Zack: Okay, that would we be cooked.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: We would have been done with this contest.

Zack: um Okay, so... Performance of the week.

Mason: already. alrighty

Zack: Haynes King, he put up he was injured. and he You could tell he was shaken up. Here is some of his stat line, though. he went 13 for yards one interception passing. touchdowns.

Zack: but his rushing yeah numbers nineteen carries for a hundred and fifty six yards eight point two yards per carry with three touchdowns

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: crazy

Zack: ah He willed that team to win. there was a He scored a touchdown late, 45-yard touchdown run ah where he was like limping into the end zone practically. Put the team on his back. ah Performance of the week, Haines King.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Nice. um Okay. I'll go ahead my performance of the week. I went with Tommy Castellanos. Yeah. Hard word to say. ah This guy, he...

Mason: You did it.

Zack: I like that.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: So, quarterback at Boston College for last few years. Got benched slash kind of quit on the team last year.

Zack: Awesome.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: um Enters the transfer portal. Goes to Florida State. Florida to State obviously has the year they had last year where everything... The whole world just fell apart. and They were terrible.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: People are writing them off. They're 14-point underdogs at home to Alabama. And he says... He backs up some major trash talk.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: He said, Nick Saban is not there anymore. He can't come and save them. um they're not i don't know what they're going to be able to do to stop me.

Zack: la

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: And he i mean he led them to a ah convincing victory.

Zack: act

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: thirty one seventeen I think, was the final score. um So backed up all the trash talk, performance of the week, beating up a once-proud Alabama program.

Zack: I like that.

Mason: I'm

Zack: Talk this trash. Back that up. You'll have to see it.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I mean, i I was trashing him last week. I was like, there's no way this guy's going to. And then, i I mean, I took Florida State on the pod, but I was even trashing him before. I was like, well, that's just too many points. So he proved it he proved a lot of people wrong.

Zack: He did?

Mason: going to go with, I think Tinsley is going to hate this pick for performance of the week. were I think he was on Clemson. Were you on Clemson?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: ah Yeah.

Mason: I'm going to go with Garrett Nussmeier just for...

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: And I was very much against LSU, I'll tell you that too.

Mason: Yeah, you were against... So now he...

Zack: Oh.

Mason: So he leads the odds in Heisman now after that performance just by a little bit.

Zack: no

Mason: um Now, here's the thing. The LSU, I looked because I was curious. They are tied for the most ah teams to play against a top 25 ranked team with seven, I believe. They play seven ranked.

Mason: Yeah, seven ranked opponents with... ah This season. They're tied LSU, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and Florida. So if he can keep that...

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: That's tough for Mississippi State considering.

Mason: ah Right? um Ended up scoring in the fourth quarter. That was only score in that ah late to take the lead to the seventeen ten game.

Mason: That is my performance of the week.

Zack: Love it.

Zack: Okay, Mason.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah. Yeah. LSU really kind of put a hurtin' on me. on me

Mason: Yeah. Sorry, Tense.

Zack: You had some real anti-LSU takes on this podcast.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: That's all right, because they're still coming.

Mason: Well, he probably is happy to hear that they have seven ranked opponents on their schedule.

Zack: It's fine.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I bet him to win the SEC. I sent the parlay, but still.

Mason: Oh, OK. There you go. OK, what do i what do we have next?

Zack: All Mason. Surprise the week.

Mason: Okay, this was kind of off the... It's just because I was shocked when I was looking at the box scores on the on the television at the time. I was not specifically watching the game because after you hear this matchup, but it was Kentucky actually not covering to Toledo.

Zack: Hmm.

Mason: ah They were 9.5, 10-point favorite on some of the... ah on some of the ah books and they only lost by six i believe so now i'm wondering is kentucky gonna be bad or was that just kind of a and they still won the game don't get me wrong but uh with and it was in kentucky 24 to 16 kentucky not covering the spread

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: It's interesting.

Zack: Mason, you must not have listened to it listen to our SEC over in the wind totals.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Mason: and of it I was listening. i just

Zack: Listen, Zach Calzada, trash.

Mason: did you toledo went Did you have Toledo being in that close? I think they were tied at one point.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: i bet them the I bet them to cover the spread. True ball knowers know that Toledo, who won the MAAC last year, is a good football team.

Mason: Oh.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: But you're too busy on Saturdays drinking pumpkin spice lattes and not watching ball.

Zack: my gosh, this guy.

Mason: i was out I was literally in Alaska. you can't you can You can't give me that. i was li I couldn't listen to the podcast.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: i'm just i'm talking about lot I'm talking about, well, Kentucky was, I think you were on the episode when he talked about Kentucky.

Zack: Listen, Zach Calzada is not very bad.

Mason: Yeah, probably.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Zach Kauzada.

Zack: He's very bad at football.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: There's a lot of A&M quarterbacks throughout college football for some reason.

Zack: A lot of them. Haynes King is one.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: He's not a good at quarterback either.

Zack: Georgia Tech. He's a good running back.

Mason: Well...

Zack: Yeah. It was 10-2. It was 10-2 and then crazy.

Mason: They even got a safety. it was... like ah It was... Let's see. It was seventeen to nine at one point, thinking that they could have actually won that game.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: Crazy.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: 10-2, yeah.

Mason: Yeah.

Zack: crazy

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: The ah the Mac, I think, did well across the board. I saw Central Michigan beat somebody too that was above them as far as conferences go.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: the mac Don't sleep on the Mac.

Mason: Well...

Zack: no

Mason: You know what?

Zack: Don't sleep on them.

Mason: Since you all were expecting that and that wasn't a surprise to you, I guess I don't have to worry about you all picking that as your the surprise of the week.

Zack: yeah

Zack: That is true.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: mason her Mason heard the word punishment and pulled out Toledo.

Mason: And Tenz even got Tenz even made money off of that game.

Zack: Yeah, Mason's like, I'm not touching this punishment.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Toledo.

Mason: so Or was it part of a parlay?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: No, it was a single.

Mason: There you go.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Trying to do less parlays, more singles.

Zack: All right, Tins.

Mason: Crowd.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: All right.

Zack: Surprise the week.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Surprise. My surprise of the week is the LSU Tigers actually winning a home opener.

Zack: Hmm.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: They had lost their last five um home home opener or sorry, season openers. Yeah. And just just surprising that a Brian Kelly-led team went to a hostile environment and did what they were supposed to do.

Zack: Hmm.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: LSU is a national title contender, um but under Brian Kelly, even back to Notre Dame, it's His teams always seem to not come up to the occasion, not do what they're supposed to do.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: So to me, i was very surprised that LSU actually pulled off the win, even though they were the underdogs. So it's not an upset. Yeah, that would be an upset.

Zack: It is an upset. Yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: That the definition of an upset. Four-point underdogs. But that was my surprise of the week. I was very surprised LSU not only won, but the score made it seem like it was a lot closer than it was. like LSU dominated them pretty much the whole game.

Zack: Agree.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: that They had that catch for touchdown taken away that would have, you know, that was bad.

Zack: And

Zack: that was garbage. Yeah. yeah

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: That was...

Zack: And it would have been, yeah, it should have been a two touchdown win at least.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: Um, my, but so I actually have have this written down this way, so I'm not counting it. Uh, my surprise the week was Clemson losing their opener at home.

Zack: Um, so it's not LSU based, but it's Clemson based.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: right that's fair no point there

Zack: That is how I had it written. Um, This Clemson team that a lot of a lot of people had really hyped up, Katie Klobnik, was in those Heisman conversations. And not to say that they're not going to be a good team still. I really thought that home field advantage would be enough to push them over the edge.

Zack: um I mean, kudos to LSU for coming in and taking care of business. um I did not think it was going to happen. i thought that last year, Clemson got embarrassed in that first weekend of the year against Georgia.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: yeah

Zack: I really thought that they were going to come out make a statement. I thought Katie Klobnik. I thought the same thing with Arch Manning. To be honest, we may bring them up in a second. I'm not sure our next category. I really thought that there was a chance both of those guys were going to awesome weekends and were going come out as the Heisman favorites.

Zack: Turns out um both of them took step backs this week. So my surprise of the week was that Dabo couldn't get the boys together. Clemson is just kind of struggling along.

Zack: um i heard a stat that in their last like four SEC games, um I forget the exact stat, but they really have like struggled on third down and they have basically just had no success.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: yeah

Zack: Um, going back to South Carolina for last year and to Georgia last year, like they just have had very little success against their premier opponents. And so I thought this was going to be a page turner and turns out it was not.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Seems like Dabo really needs to stop being set in his ways and go hit the transfer portal because it's just not I think it was a little bit but not not like what everybody else is doing.

Zack: I think he did even some, uh,

Zack: He still could go eleven and one and

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Right.

Zack: When the ACC get a playoff spot, pretty easy. I mean, at like I said, these non-conference games in the first and the first slot of the year just don't mean a ton moving forward.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: I mean, they count, but they don't. it's not It's not everything. there's There's plenty of football left for everybody.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah. Clemson got, yeah. Clemson got embarrassed last year, week one, and they're still, it they won the ACC and got a playoff spot.

Zack: That was bad. Yeah.

Zack: Okay, last category, last superlative for the day, ah Fraud of the Week. um There's a lot of people that are in contention here.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Lots of frauds running around.

Zack: I am going to the very first game of the weekend, ah Boise State. Frauds of the Week, top 25 ranked players.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: yeah

Zack: Ashton Gentile merchants Boise state come out. They score the first touchdown of the game, go up seven zero. And then they are, they have 34 points straight scored against them. Uh, they lose 34 to seven and their opener, uh, after being ranked, they have their season is struggling. I'll tell you who is on the come up. And this could have been a category for performance of the week.

Zack: Um, Alex Golish in the USF, uh,

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Head coach, yeah.

Zack: They're for real. I think those guys could be in the G5 position looking for playoff spot because that guy's going to get a get a powerful job soon.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: um He was he was the guy famously led the 2022 team. He was offensive coordinator. That was the mastermind behind that team, ah Tennessee team. And so he's a very good coach. He is one of those guys who are now being looked at as potential to take a big job somewhere. So.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: We only look out there, but Boise State embarrassed.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah. I mean, that people were talking about Boise state was going to run, run that conference and be the, the bell of the ball.

Zack: Yep.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: As far as the, the outside of the power of five conferences, getting a playoff team and, you know, not looking like it and UCF.

Zack: Didn't happen. Okay.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I mean, that's another really hard game for Florida in a couple of weeks.

Zack: USF or UCF?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: USF, sorry. you

Zack: Yeah, USF is the one to beat Boise State.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: That's who they... Yeah. yeah

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: Yeah, and maybe lo if we don't we don't have a category for losers of the week, but honestly, if I were getting kind of for losers of the week, Florida Gators might be on there because all of a sudden ah Miami and Florida State are on their schedule later, and those are no longer looking like fun games of play along with your SEC schedule.

Mason: Mmm.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: So their schedule, their strength of schedule just got harder.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: A very tough SEC schedule.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: True.

Zack: Okay. Tens?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: All right. My fraud of the week is Nico blah, blah, blah, whatever his name is.

Zack: You love to see it.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: um Not only... Are you just a complete fraud? you You try to throw Hypel's system under the bus saying that's why you struggled. and No, it's just because you're bad at football.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: um You leave in a dramatic way. All this drama, all summer long.

Zack: yeah

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: ah You go to UCLA.

Zack: They are.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: make less money than you were going to make at UT because you are dumb and your dad is dumb. And then you look absolutely terrible. And I know you utah is a good team.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Utah is consistently a good defense.

Zack: they are

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: But... You were like a seven-point underdog at home. You were missing receivers left and right. you He looked terrible. He is a fraud. That whole class of five-star quarterbacks just might be bad, some are saying.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I saw the meme.

Zack: Some people are saying it.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: It was like Nico, Arch, Deontay Thomas, who I don't He plays for Oregon, maybe.

Zack: Dante Moore. think it's Dante Moore.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Dante Moore. Yeah, Dante Moore.

Zack: Yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yes, yes, Dante Moore.

Zack: He is starting for Oregon. Oregon does look good.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: He was, but just what a fraud.

Zack: They look pretty good.

Zack: Yeah. Tough.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: You hate to see it.

Mason: We enjoyed it.

Zack: Full agree. The hate watch was awesome. ah I watched the highlights the next morning. It was great to see.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: uh, interceptions being thrown. Um, the stadium was like literally 25% full. Um, you know, couldn't happen to a, a better guy, more morally upstanding guy.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: Um, the, the, the better part of that story is, I mean, he screwed Tennessee over in a pretty big way, but he also kind of screwed, uh, Joey Aguilar over. I mean, he, he came in at the very last minute, took his starting job,

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah. He

Zack: ah Joey got the great got the biggest come-up in history. He took a job at UCLA, and all of a sudden, he's now the starting in quarterback at the University of Tennessee, making a lot of money ah for a good team.

Zack: who i mean this They look pretty good.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: did it.

Zack: um So, fun stuff there. Shout-out to Joey Aguilar. We didn't mention him in our superlatives, but he had a great game as well.

Mason: I was seeing some like like Twitter accounts. basically and They were like, i didn't see Nico make throws like that. it wasn't One of them was like that deep ball. and I don't know if it's just the hate or if that's a legitimate thing.

Zack: It was honestly pretty stark watching it. It was like, oh. And I think all Tennessee fans had the same reaction of, this is the first time our offense has looked pretty competent since 2022, which is like a scary thing to think about because the offense was pretty unique and the Blutnikoff winner was on that roster.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: And you know that was a pretty unique roster that year. But it did have some shades of the former offense that we all have come to miss under the last couple of years.

Zack: So exciting stuff.

Zack: Okay, Mason, are you going to go with the golden goose here?

Mason: All right.

Mason: i have something I feel like everybody's going to either probably put their heads in their hands about.

Zack: Uh-oh.

Mason: Who knows?

Zack: Okay.

Mason: and I'm not sure. Maybe they'll like it. I'm going my my fraud of the week, even with a win is Michigan. Let me explain. ah Hold on. Let me explain.

Mason: Let me explain. So Bryce Underwood gets the first start of... the of his career. They play the New Mexico Lobos, which was interested on their defense.

Zack: Yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah, true freshman.

Mason: Their defense last season was ranked 134 FBS teams. At point during the game, they were only winning one-score game.

Mason: out of thirty ah ah hundred and thirty four fbs teams

Zack: OK.

Mason: at one point during the game they were only winning by seventeen to by a one score game

Mason: They also only play two ranked teams, Oklahoma next week, and then the last game of the season, which is Ohio State. I'm not a believer. i so i think that they're frauds. They didn really didn't. I just i don't believe in them.

Mason: I think they're frauds.

Zack: All

Mason: We'll see what happens.

Zack: right.

Mason: All right.

Zack: ah Mason really took this. um He really does not want to get this punishment. there in the season He's like, guys, I can't do this punishment.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: He saw the word punishment and ran for the hills.

Zack: um That's great. i mean, they always got the win. I think that's positive. Their offense was horrible last year. Their pass game was like non-existent. So, uh,

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah, they couldn't throw out four guys last year.

Zack: they they had a lot They have a lot to come back from.

Mason: We'll see what happens against Oklahoma next week.

Zack: um Well,

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Oklahoma, famously good defense under Brent Venables. He's getting fired before ah Billy Napier.

Zack: I feel like they are good defenses. feel like we well, now I feel like we buried the lead and we didn't talk about the biggest game of the week at all.

Mason: He's getting fired.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: you

Zack: um

Mason: if Sorry, guys.

Zack: So I think we all kind of danced around because we were afraid. um How do we feel? Let's just really quickly wrap up with this topic. Texas, Arch, Ohio State.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: um Is he if maybe he's not a fraud. Maybe he's not fraud of the week. Maybe he just was playing a great defense. Some people are saying, and

Mason: We are.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Ohio State does have a very good defense and I think Matt Patricia being hired as the defensive coordinator is like a move that people want to laugh at and make a meme because he was so bad as a Lions head coach he is an excellent defensive coordinator at the college and NFL level like he's he's been very successful at both um and I don't know I don't think Sark called the best game he it's like he didn't really trust Arch to do much they weren't doing things you kind of saw them do last year

Zack: Yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: um

Zack: i mean, it came down to the fact that they had two possessions and within the five yard line and came away with zero points.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: and No points, yeah.

Zack: I mean, that's the game right there.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: So,

Zack: They score in those two possessions and all of a sudden they win. i mean, that's it's

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: yeah, I think on a neutral field, I think Texas would be favored today, even if they played it. Like, if they played again this week, I think Texas would probably be favored on a neutral field.

Zack: I think it's a very competitive matchup. I think the fact that, I think you're right. A couple breaks definitely win Ohio State's way.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: um mean, Ohio, Julian saying though, not bad. um

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: Kind of, kind of some shades of some of those. I mean, that's the same thing. Ohio State and Georgia have both done this mess where, they just plug in a guy who's like pretty good a quarterback.

Zack: And then the rest of the team is so good that it doesn't matter.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: place point guard. Yeah.

Zack: Yeah. ah Georgia has done that a lot. him And Ohio state's done the last couple of years too, where they just had guys who were like, sure, he's not going to make a lot of mistakes at least.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: And then they win games with him.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Right.

Zack: So I don't know.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: it was ah It was an entertaining game. i mean, low scoring. It wasn't what people probably were going into the weekend expecting.

Zack: It's very, yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: like They probably thought was more of a shootout, but both those teams are very loaded on defense. um And it wouldn't surprise me if we see them play each other again in the playoff.

Zack: Definitely.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: think they're both going right there.

Zack: Yeah, I think both were playing pretty conservatively. I think they both were pulling, not pulling punches, but just kind of, they were they weren't wanting to make the first mistake. So they were kind just willing to play really safe football and just kind of see how it landed.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: And one 40 yard touchdown pass ended up being the difference later.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Because they know this isn't their whole season.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: But Arch did have a chance to run a two minute drill at the end and potentially get his team ah to tie the game and it did not happen. So

Zack: that's a tall task maybe for a guy who's only played a couple of games, but who knows?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Right.

Mason: We had that as a potential fraud in Alabama, and neither of those got brought up.

Zack: Bama fraud.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah, i mean I mean, if you listen to this pod, you know that me and Zach are super down on Alabama going into the season.

Zack: ah

Zack: Yeah, definitely.

Zack: fact.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: We took their win total under.

Zack: Go back and listen to. Yep.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Ty Simpson is not the guy.

Zack: What did I? Yeah. Yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: He's been there for five years and he's never once been in contention to be the starting quarterback. Like that should tell you all you need to know, but this just Caitlin DeBoer. He's, he's been a good coach everywhere. He's been,

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: But he just doesn't fit. He's just not the right kind of coach for Bama, and that's okay. like He can go back to what to the – well, the Pac-12 gone, so that's not an option.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: um But he's a good – probably.

Zack: Washington would probably take him back.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I don't know. They've got a good coach, the guy they got from Arizona. I can't think of his name.

Zack: um I think the reaction has been pretty funny because we live in a world where um the people have access to replays and stuff so fast that it's pretty easy to go back.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Fiske.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: And and if you watch some of the replays, I'm not not sure if you guys have seen them of The Bama guys like jogging, being behind on play. There's a couple of plays are really bad.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah. It's like saving a pool to scholarship instantly.

Zack: um That's the stuff. That's the stuff that will get you fired um or get you in real big trouble like this.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: The stuff that Bama has just come to not put up with. um And while Saban's not there, all the boosters are still there. All of the ah fans are still there and they've come to expect a certain way of playing football. And it seems like,

Zack: It just feels like DeBoer has a certain level of athlete that he is just not managing very well right now. um He has a very talented team that should be good, and is just it's just not working out.

Zack: It kind of feels like the Texas A&M type years where it's just like you got all the guys, um but it's just not.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: the

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I can't do anything with him.

Zack: The pieces aren't working. Yeah.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: So – um I don't know. We'll see how the rest... like They could very easily go tended to still make a playoff, and make a push at the end. like I think they've got the talent. They could also go eight and four seven and five and the hot seat for DeBoer would get hot very fast in Alabama, I think.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I don't see him surviving a seven.

Zack: Their schedule actually pretty soft.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: know.

Mason: well

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: If they if they went 7-5, there would be a tragedy with their schedule.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: i know yeah

Mason: Well, there's October 18th, it's Tennessee and Alabama, and then Alabama-South Carolina, which they look good in their game.

Zack: They'd be losing to a bad team.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: yeah

Mason: LSU-Alabama, Oklahoma-Alabama.

Zack: Well, there you go.

Mason: So, there all in a row.

Zack: Nice four losses. Feels great.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I like that. That'd be a good game for sellers.

Zack: It's great.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: If you were listening over the summer and jumped on Heisman plus 2,000 with your boy, he's now at plus 800. Yeah.

Mason: There you go.

Zack: Wow. Pretty good.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Pretty good. It seems like we know ball.

Zack: I don't know about you guys. I feel like a lot of our predictions are coming true.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: after There's a lot of good stuff happening for our for our college predictions so far.

Zack: though

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Week one.

Zack: I took Notre Dame to miss the playoffs.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: 0-1.

Zack: Owen won.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: If the season ended today, they're not in.

Zack: but i mean, come on. Carson Beck won his first game with Miami.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Carson Peck.

Zack: Some people are saying. Okay.

Zack: Do you guys have anything else college-related here?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: No.

Zack: I had one more thing I was going to leave with, and then we can be done.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Okay.

Zack: Um, this is about, so this is a little bit of a press release, but I thought it was a fun question ask.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: All

Zack: Um, so this, so this movie is coming out, uh, the long walk. Are you familiar?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yes.

Zack: Um, so it's actually a book. Basically the long walk is these people are forced to walk and they have to hit a certain miles per hour. And if they fall below it, they get murdered. So there's this experience happening at a movie theater where, um, there's like treadmills for all the people that are watching it. And if you fall below three miles per hour, you get killed.

Zack: Nope. You are escorted to the theater. And so my question is to, to both of you, um, three miles per hour is a 20 minute mile pace. So it's not fast, but it's also not slow.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Right.

Zack: It's like, it's not crawling. You gotta be moving with some purpose.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: Um, How many miles are you walking? If your life is on the line, if someone like has a has a gun to your head, how many miles are you making it before you just fall over?

Mason: So you said 20 minute miles because I'm OK.

Zack: 20 minute mile pace, three miles per hour. It's like a six on a treadmill, 6.0. sorry. 3.0 on treadmill.

Zack: now sorry three point zero on a treadmill

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: That's dumb. Yeah. 3.0 on the channel.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: um I'm making it pretty far.

Mason: So if you do 10 miles, that's three hours.

Zack: Yeah.

Zack: Yeah.

Mason: And like. 18 minutes.

Zack: Yeah.

Mason: Let's.

Zack: That can't be right.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Do a lot of walking, a lot of running around for my job. So I'm,

Zack: I think my number, I think my number is, I don't know how you got 18 minutes if you're walking 20 minute miles.

Mason: Did I do that wrong?

Zack: So, I sorry just heard you say 18 minutes. I was like, that's not right.

Mason: didn't carry the one.

Zack: Um,

Zack: I think I could, I'm going to say if I had to put a number on it for me, I think it would be like 40 miles.

Mason: Well, you did a marathon or half marathon. Did...

Zack: I did. now maybe more than that. You're right. Um,

Zack: But i was I have not run since then, so it's pretty bad. um Maybe... Okay.

Zack: Let's go 60. think that's better. 60 miles.

Zack: And that's like... I mean, you're going until you fall over, basically. Until your legs stop working.

Zack: I don't know. if you I mean, if you're literally your life on the line...

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: I'm going 80.

Mason: So I did 60 times 20 minutes.

Zack: Yeah.

Mason: That's 20 hours of walking.

Zack: Correct.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: They let him like stop at night to go to sleep.

Zack: Do they?

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah.

Zack: In the movie?

Mason: Now that's a game changer.

Zack: No.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Behind the movie. Yeah.

Zack: That is something. um I could do 60. I could walk for 20 hours straight my life wasn't lie.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah, you get to sleep.

Mason: I'm just trying to think of like what starts hurting like the legs. Because you're like your cardiovascular is probably fine. It's only walking fast paced.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: What starts hurting?

Zack: Your legs would definitely be hurting.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Your legs?

Mason: All

Mason: right. I think I can match Zach on that probably. 80.

Zack: Mason, let's be honest.

Mason: eighty

Mason: I would say like a day and a half. okay How many hours of sleep do I get? That's also important.

Zack: You You famously just jogged through an entire and NBA game in college one time on treadmill.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Yeah,

Zack: That's not normal behavior.

Mason: Oh, yeah. for Okay. That's been a while as well. Okay, I'll say like a day and a half, two days.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: yeah let's act like you don't have a six pack a resting six-pack just sitting here.

Mason: so

Mason: I'll say two days. i don't know the miles on that, but I'd say I could probably get through two days. so

Zack: okay

Mason: As long as I get eight hours of sleep, I'll be fine.

Zack: Need to sleep.

Mason: and Can I need 10? Actually, i'm requesting 10.

Zack: Can I podcast while I'm walking?

Mason: I'm just kidding.

Zack: That changes the game.

Mason: Can I get like a TV in front of me with all the football games? That also.

Zack: so Okay.

Mason: All right. Good work, everybody.

Zack: I feel good about that.

Mason: So are we going to that movie theater?

Zack: Hey.

Mason: Is that what I heard?

Zack: Thought about it.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Thank you.

Zack: No, I'm not doing that. um We will be back at the end of this week. um We are going to be previewing the week to come in college football. We have a couple of fun new segments.

Zack: um NFL is upon us.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: back baby yep

Zack: That's coming up on starting Thursday night.

Mason: So ready.

Zack: So it's exciting stuff. ah We have a lot going on right now.

Mason: you

Zack: So be with us. um Subscribe to the pod on Spotify, Apple, wherever you are. where tens has been on the tick tock grind. He's going to continue to start putting some bedding stuff there.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: yep

Zack: So be with us on tick tock. Be with us. Um, we post these videos on YouTube. If you want to see Mason's face and you want to see me and tens make faces at him when he takes Michigan as fraud of the week, like projected to pick, like to be like seventh in the big den or whatever.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: When he says Michigan's a fraud.

Zack: um a But you can see that live if you want.

Mason: Just wait. Just wait, everybody.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: Oh, that was.

Zack: And they won.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: By 17.

Zack: ah Okay. Well, we hope you guys have a great week. um Go Tar Heels. Shout out to Bill Belichick for his first win as a college football coach.

Next Guy Up Podcast Network: you

Zack: And we will see you next time.
