Olympic Themed Game: Horror Movie Killers in Sports

00:00:00
Speaker
All right, let's roll. Cool. Welcome to another episode of What We Saw Last Night. This is our Olympic episode as we're about to kick off the Olympics. As always, and we we normally deviate with horror, but we watch all movies here, as you guys know. So we're going to, as always, we're going to start with a warm up question. I'm going to give you some sports, Olympic sports, and Enrique is going to give you the horror movie, icon, killer that would be most likely to get the gold.

Freddy Krueger in Fencing: A Debate

00:00:28
Speaker
We'll start with events oh um fencing. So you got a person that's a little, they got to be good on their feet, but they got to be able to give like a- Freddy. Freddy Krueger, I think would be a good fencer. Fencing, whatever. No repeats. Let's see.
00:00:47
Speaker
long, uh, short distance swimming. So who's, who do you think has got like an explosive out there? it Does, does the shark from Jaws count? Sure. Okay. The shark from Jaws. Would you take the shark from Jaws over any other shark? Yeah. Cause the Megalodon was too big. It was too big. yeah i got fit and I think the shark from Jaws is the quickest man. I mean, like technically it's the lesser known Mako, um, Mako cause Mako's are the the fastest sharks, but that's neither here nor there. So we got, what about Hurdling?

Jaws as a Swimmer: Speed vs Size

00:01:20
Speaker
So someone that can run, like run, but also it can do more than one thing. You know, and a lot of the eighties killers seem like they can only move in one direction. The the Hurdler is definitely Ghostface. Okay. I wonder what will Art the Clown? I can see Art Hurdling. Okay. So here's the long distance running, like a marathon,
00:01:43
Speaker
Oh shit, I don't know any killers that run. They don't run, but they always, like, who do you think, so, I guess like- And I can go any kind of killer. Yeah. I'm going to tire from rubber. Alright. I was gonna go with Michael Myers, because he's always moving forward, like- It's that he walks all day. like Yeah, but he's like he's he's kind of slow. He is slow, but he's not going to stop. and everyone else That's true.

Ghostface's Hurdling Skills

00:02:10
Speaker
okay um and hes He like somehow gets there. like I think he would win over like Jason. The thing is, the old school slashers walk slow, but always are ahead of you. and That makes sense. Here's the big one.
00:02:24
Speaker
oh There's there's one one one more, and then the big one. So I asked in in the free in a preview clip about tennis, so we're thinking like a lot of agility, but we even thought about grace and athleticism, gymnastics. Oh, wow, gymnasts.
00:02:45
Speaker
A killer gymnast. So like we have Abigail, who did ballerino. And ballroom dancing is in the Olympics, but would she gymnast or wait would there be like a Maxine who's an actress like I say I don't think vaccines like physically gifted did porn though like there's a level physical there's no flying and yeah there's no there's just a lot of land yeah and landing strips and port yeah like flying oh I will see Abigail's a good I think she has potential so I would go and she's no no yeah
00:03:23
Speaker
Well, she's you my body young yeah she's like probably a thousand years old. Alright. Starting 5 basketball. Alright, so starting 5 basketball, can I reuse someone I've said in this past? okay so Ghostface is my point. I feel like he's, and it doesn't matter which Ghostface it is, even Billy Loomis' mom is agile. So I don't know why, but she was agile. They were all agile. So I would go Ghostface, definitely go, I would go like Michael Myers to set picks. I think I said that earlier, but I would go Michael Myers to set picks. He could be like a power forward. Yeah. He gives me like Tim Duncan vibes.

Top 10 Sports Movies Recap and Personal Insights

00:04:07
Speaker
all fundamentals yeah like he's not gonna be flashy he's just gonna be like straight-up nitty-gritty and that's a lot of his kills they're very very mechanical yeah I feel like huh let's see we need three more so you need a winger yes like oh who's a shooter who's a shooter you need a straight shooter someone who can move All right, so I think a straight shooter, I would probably go, who seems like they got that? You know what? I think Candyman might got a nice little arc on him. All right, I think you can have Candyman as like a big shooter. I feel like Candyman, if you, I think like, I think he might got that like, he got that wrist right, like Steph Curry. So I would do Candyman,
00:05:04
Speaker
Ghostface, Michael Myers, and I need two more. And I guess I would go like, I don't know, I like Powerball, so I would do Jason, either at center, and maybe, I might do Jason at center, and I would throw, because I love mugs and bows, I would throw in like, leprechaun. ah and throwing like leprechaun but when he's in the hood like leprechaun three four whatever it was yeah because you know if he was there he picked up a couple things you know the the only one that i i could think if you really wanted to power the um robot from christmas bloody christmas the uh yeah but i i don't know man there's like what if i what if somebody gets sweat on it
00:06:01
Speaker
And they were that thing was covered in blood by the end of the movie. yeah that's that's true too And like there was always I feel like a vampire like Dracula could have... ah Which one? Nick Cage, Dracula? maybe Maybe. Maybe. Yeah. I love that. So let's let's move on. and we were We were talking about our top 10 movies. um We're going to do a quick recap. um First, lets let's go through some honorable mentions. What do you got for honorable mentions? All right. So I know I do this all the time. I could not just come up with 10. So I have 10 honorable mentions. Can I go just yeah quickly give them? OK. I'm going to go 10 to 1. So like Mike.
00:06:49
Speaker
Johnny Tsunami, Dodgeball, I could not leave this out. Rollerblade, I don't know if that's a sports movie, but it had rollerblades. Yeah, a lot of rollerblades, and I'll give it. And fighting, so Bloodsport, which in retrospect, maybe I would put a little higher. Happy Gilmore, Waterboy, and I was torn between these three. These three barely missed a cut, but the program, Any Given Sunday and Talladega Nights. Those are my 10 honorable mentions. thats That's a good one. um I agree with those honorable mentions. I would throw in Ion Claw. I really love that movie. he's in here it it's It didn't make my top 10. It didn't make your top 10. So I just want to throw that one out there. and um yeah Let's do now a recap of our top 10s. You want

Hosts' Top 10 Sports Movies List

00:07:45
Speaker
to go first? Yes, sure. I put Dodgeball.
00:07:47
Speaker
I feel like comedy and sports is a great combo. And ah if we look back in time, that movie is still quoted today. So, you know, like, history movie yeah, history. Such a great movie. that And it inspired me to play. semi-pro dodgeball for a while with um Steve from Nick and Finn. So yeah, what do you got for your 10? For my 10, I have Remember the Titans. Now this was tough because originally I had a little higher and i if you guys want to read what i actually like in full detail what I wrote, I'll put my letterbox on. I don't know if you guys are even interested in that. but
00:08:24
Speaker
So growing up, I played football in high school and I was never good enough to ever go to college, like to play football. So I didn't, like it wasn't my goal, but you you kind of pick up certain things in life and like watching Remember the Titans, I just, it's it's a nice, feel good movie that has a lot of exaggerated football in it, but it's a nice, feel good movie, you know? And changed it. No, he's not. it i not checkking Oh, Ryan Gosling. 2023 American sweetheart, Ryan Gosling. But that's my number 10. Number nine, Major League. Another comedy movie, baseball. There's so many great baseball movies.
00:09:07
Speaker
Major League I feel like gets forgotten about and it's it is just stupid. It's funny. Great cast. That and the Phillies emulated the some of the celebrations in it last year when they had the playoff run. so My number nine, I took it to the streets, but he but I'll explain myself. My number nine is above the rim. Now, one, the cast, you look past, but the cast was amazing. But the the thing about above the rim is when you look past the fact that it's like a hood classic and stuff,
00:09:45
Speaker
above the rim kind of gives you like what life is as when you're the superstar kid and you got the you've got people that's like come on man i'ma i'ma hook you up come to my club come to this come to that and then you get arrogant and you start to like lose your way and you know a lot of distractions kind of hit you and you see all of that stuff and although it is a uh just like a i don't even know if it was a b movie but even though it was like it's i would say it's like a b movie but yeah it's it's a good movie it wasn't like a hollywood blockbuster hit kind of movie but you there's a lot of truth in that movie you know and as like i and i put a lot of fun to this list so like that movie and i i do have
00:10:37
Speaker
which walking up on me like John Gotti, baby. I don't know why that quote, I put quotes ah from every movie on this, and I don't know why that quote was the one I used for that, but I love Bernie Mac, so yeah. I got it. For eight, I got challengers. and And my big prediction would be, if I revisit this and um in in years to come, Challengers is going to go up the list. like I only saw it once in theaters. It was great. It left an impact. And I think the next time I see it, you know it's going to jump a bunch of other movies. So for eight, one, I think that's wild that Challengers was at eight. But I'm going to give you my eight, and you're going to be like, that's fucking wild. But for eight, I got hustled.
00:11:21
Speaker
Yeah, well, I'm not because seven is hustle for me. Oh, okay. So yeah, I don't feel too bad But I wanted to drop it lower but I couldn't I mean there's the nostalgia so the thing about the thing about hustle that got me I've never because I haven't seen uncut gems. So I've never seen Adam Sandler not be Adam Sandler and he was I mean, i don't I don't know what word is the best to describe him, but he was so good. And I feel like that's disrespectful to say so good because he was way better than that. He was phenomenal. When we think of Adam Sandler, we think of him playing like, I don't want to say down, but like and he plays comedic, he plays silly characters. And then in Uncut Gems, he's like a father.
00:12:10
Speaker
trying to make it, trying to build a basketball team. You see him struggling, trying to make it work. But then he finds the player and he believes so like it's it's a great film. like It really is. And the thing is, I say this all the time on a podcast. I fucking love Hubie Halloween. That's Adam Sandler. Hustle, that's a nu whole different fucking person. Such a great job. Hustle is such a great movie, sports movie. at Yeah, it's a great movie, but it's also a great sports movie. And that's another one that I think is gonna go up the list in the in the future.
00:12:47
Speaker
Man, um my my last knock of now comment on Hustle is one, it it is a Sixers one, so like there's there's a lot of Sixers reference where I think it's great, but also um with Hustle, this NBA playoffs, when they had Jokic, they They kept, because ah Anthony Edwards played Kermit, the bad guy. And when he was like, when all the memes of Anthony Edwards, because he kept shit talking, Jokic, and they would just ah put, they they kept flip-flopping, the characters were great. So there's a lot of great things that come out of there. Anthony Edwards showed that he can actually act, and then he's also just a really good ballplayer. The thing is,
00:13:32
Speaker
He could actually, like he i don't know I don't know if he's got anything else in acting, but that was fucking great from ah from an athlete. You know what I'm saying? like That was fucking great, man. um I guess I'll go with my sevens, since seven for you was hustle. I'll go with my seven. I have Niad. so
00:13:56
Speaker
Here's the crazy thing about that movie, right? I only saw it because we, you know, did our Oscar reviews. It was up for like Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress. I think Jodie Foster was up for like Best Supporting Actress. She was. And I saw that movie with my mom and I wasn't even gonna like really watch it, watch it. I was just gonna kind of skim, take some notes. i could not I could not lose focus on that movie. I could not get distracted. and That says a lot because all I do in my life is get distracted. I don't know what it was.
00:14:29
Speaker
That, i after watching that movie, I knew it was disrespectful that it didn't get a nomination for best picture. I just, I knew it was disrespectful. I'm like, you i should i i you could have taken out the movie with the fucking Bradley Cooper guy. yeah you could have taken yeah You could have taken that out and put an eye out easily. And it was just such a great movie. Basically, it was a move it was one of those cliche moments, but it's a and this is gonna sound cliche, it was a movie when believing in yourself is your greatest strength.
00:15:11
Speaker
That's what that movie was. i Not enough people saw Nyad. It only really played at the bourse in theaters and one of my regrets was us not going and seeing it. like Movie regret last year, us not seeing Nyad. I forgot it on my list and I feel bad. moving on For number six, I had Remember the Titans. Oh, such a, such a, you remember the Titans, it's such a good movie. It's such a good movie. I put it, well i I feel like that's gonna go up as like, cause like the other ones I feel like are better movies, but there's like a level of nostalgia. I love it. So yeah, what do you got for six? All right, so for six and this, I think, I'm thinking it's slow. I rewatched a lot of these movies because I've seen them, some I've seen a long time ago.
00:16:01
Speaker
And I got loving basketball for six. And I feel like that might be a little too low, but loving basketball came out at a time when truly ball was life. And I remember I got my first basketball court around 2001. I got my first basketball court. And I probably saw this movie around 2001 because I didn't go to the theaters to see it. No one was going to take it. But I saw this movie, we rented it, or I went to someone's house. I don't remember how I came across Loving Basketball. Everyone saw Loving Basketball. This is a movie that when I was younger, people would people watched it. And when you see it as just like an older human being you know rewatching it,
00:16:51
Speaker
there's It's just it's phenomenal. And again, if you want to read what I had to say, but also, fucking, I love Sonaya Lathan so much. So that could also be why I really love that movie. But basketball has that effect of where it was on TV constantly. So we all saw it a lot. And it is. It's a good movie. There is also that like level of nostalgia. And I feel like There's a lot of people who haven't seen it today or haven't maybe haven't seen it in a while and it's great. I feel like there's there's like there's people at work, like one of my co-workers wears a love of basketball shirt and I think it's hilarious. Yeah, it's it's truly... She rotates between a love of basketball and a poetic justice shirt. That that seems thating is about right.

Impact of 'Loving Basketball' and Personal Nostalgia

00:17:35
Speaker
oh My number five, Sandlot.
00:17:40
Speaker
Um, man, if you haven't seen it, just stop this and go watch it. yeah There's like the perfect level of nostalgia, but also it's a silly movie. It's still like holds up for like ah working with kids. If we put the sandlot on, kids still watch it. They still pay attention to it. It's still quoted like the great Ambino and like, forever small like it's still like referenced today and and so it's like it's very rarely we have someone that's cross-generational you want a s'more some more what a s'more how can i have more something if i've never had it it's so stupid but it's such a good movie james roe jones is in it and like he makes everything better yeah
00:18:27
Speaker
Alright, so for five, I went Blue Chips. If you've never seen Blue Chips and you love basketball, you cannot not watch this movie. Blue Chips its is probably one of the greatest basketball movies act like acted and just overall and it's got fucking Shaq, Diesel and Penny. Come on, man. be a Being a young kid and loving the Orlando magic and then your your family being like, oh, Shaq's in l LA now. He's not with Orlando anymore. It was heartbreaking. But seeing him and Penny in this movie was like
00:19:12
Speaker
That's, I can pretend that I saw the Shaq and Penny era by watching Blue Chips. And Nick Nolte was fucking phenomenal in that movie. My God, it was fucking phenomenal. Blue Chips, I had that actually ah at four. I took it off when we talked about it yesterday and you said it because I wanted to have like different movies. So my number four, I mean, Blue Chips is really good. My number four is Green Street Hooligans. It's a soccer movie, Elijah Woods in it. it It's more about soccer fandom and like being a fan of a losing team and like just loving the sport. It's one of those like I think all everyone should see. It's a great movie. ah It's not as popular in the States as it was elsewhere. so yeah And soccer fandom is crazy as shit, man.
00:20:07
Speaker
ah The fucking Colombians destroyed Sun Life Stadium in Miami for the for the finals. and my My coworker is Colombian. She was so excited for the game. then um you know She was a little upset. I was like, hey, I'm sorry that Colombia didn't make it. you know blah, blah, blah, whatever. can you know I know how to comfort people in sports. Sports don't go your way. And I was like, by the way, that was the Miami Dolphins Stadium. They may not have open practices there now because they're fixing it. And she felt so bad. So, yeah. The the ventilation ducts have been destroyed. Yeah. So there may not be an opening day oh and in Miami this year, which sucks, but that that's neither here nor there.
00:20:57
Speaker
So for four, and I personally think it's slow, but I i tried to go as unbiased. I tried to go as like real as I could. I went with Brink. Brink's really good. Brink, and again, I know what everybody thinks and I know and I don't care. When I was young, me and Brucie, we were in an extreme in mind skating group and Brink came out and it was like the best fucking thing in the world. But the thing is, it's a Disney movie. So a lot of people could see it as like, ah, it's just a stupid cheesy kid Disney movie. There's a lot of, the the writing in Brink's amazing. There's a lot of just like real life situations. The dad was on disability because he got hurt. i mean
00:21:55
Speaker
I remember the dad is having a speech with his son and he's just like, Andy, I love being a construction foreman. And it's like, but that's real life. The dude was so fucking happy to work construction. You know, that's like, there's just so much realness in

'Shaolin Soccer': Kung Fu Meets Soccer

00:22:14
Speaker
Brink. And one of the best quotes for any cheesy movie is, when you woke up this morning, did you say to yourself, today I'm going to talk or today I'm going to skate?
00:22:27
Speaker
Skating movies are funny, like, we don't need to go into rollerblades, I feel like we talked about it enough on other, but people, man, there's, but I don't know, rollerblading movies are a different breed. yeah My third is Showloon Soccer. Man, if you guys haven't seen, so, the plot is, this guy, he basically wants to be a kung fu master, but he also wants to be a soccer player. He's bad at both. He joins a team of like Kung Fu monks that play soccer. And man, it's like, it's the best movie. It's, it's over the top. It's silly, but you can't say anything bad about it. Um, they, it came out like, I want to say like mid 2000s. It's a classic. It's a, it's a very strange movie. I, I, I want to, you got, you,
00:23:22
Speaker
You had me at Kung Fu Soccer. Yeah. Or Shaolin Soccer. Shaolin Soccer. It is a Kung Fu Soccer movie. um You had me at Kung Fu Soccer. It's so good. it's so it's just It's perfect. It's perfect for what it is. My number three is

Narrative Analysis of 'Challengers' and Other Sports Movies

00:23:41
Speaker
Challengers. Now, Challengers is one of the greatest movies of the year. Yeah. Definitely top. I don't remember if I put it top five or top three. challenges is such a great fucking movie and the thing is that movie is it's all about tennis it's the only time it's like the most intense i've
00:24:05
Speaker
ever seen dorks. I feel like if you play tennis like in in in like high school, college, they see you as a dork. No, I'm not saying they're dorks. I'm just saying like because the movie starts off when they're in high school. And it kind of seemed like they're not that like popular and stuff. you know they're And these fucking dudes were like they were down and they were down to die for each other. And not just, this was one of those movies where it's like, Usually sports movies are like cheesy. Usually sports movies are like ah wholesome. This movie was manipulative. Fucking Zendaya was a bitch. And like there was so much backstabbing. I mean this guy basically was like
00:24:55
Speaker
i fucked your girl and he's like, you know what I'm saying? like That was, it's phenomenal. One of the greatest movies I've seen this year, possibly top 10 greatest movie I've seen in the past few years. So I went, Challengers for number three. Man, you can't go wrong with Challengers. I wish I, I wish I saw it in theaters a second time. I'm glad I saw it in theaters. Man, they, they, Before I give my two, in Challengers, they have multiple scenes from the point of view of a tennis ball. yeah But it's not stupid. Every other movie that has done that, like where they have the point of view from the ball, it's the dumbest thing ever. But in Challengers, it just it worked. yeah My number two is Rocky slash Creed. All the Rockies and all the Creeds. Man, I don't need to explain myself.
00:25:49
Speaker
all of them are good it's one of those things where like if you haven't seen them just watch all of them even the bad one like there's one bad one out of like nine movies and it's not even that bad these are like pure american fuel if you want to feel good about yourself you watch it if you want a good underdog story you watch it rocky you know like you don't watch it for like a award-winning dialogue you watch it for like the journey that he goes on. And to see that transition from him being the fighter to to him being the trainer and creed, it's beautiful. it And just the whole story going full circle, him losing Adrian, him losing Paulie, like him having to train Apollo's son
00:26:40
Speaker
and going against Drago again eventually, you know, like God, I didn't pick Rocky cause that's just an obvious, like Rocky is just a fucking obvious choice. You know what I'm saying? But I kind of feel bad. I put Rocky on my list just for like general principle. Yeah. I couldn't go against the principle. Yeah. I love this movie too much to put it for two. I went with one of my personal all time favorite movies and it's the original. Do not ever fucking disrespect me and think that I'm talking about the 2023 version of it's white men can't jump, not the 2023 version. Never disrespect me. And I've never seen that movie. I will never see that movie. White men can't jump was is up to this day. One of the greatest movies I've ever seen.
00:27:38
Speaker
It's funny and it's so real. I remember being on the basketball courts and someone saying, I'll be right back. And people are like, fuck it. Let's run. Cause you know, he's going for a gun. And like, I don't even know if he was or not, but I would just run. Like it, that movie is just, but you, you have Wesley Snipes in his prime and you have, uh, what's his name, uh, Woody Harrelson in his prime. And like, that was like, I think a year before, after Natural Born Killers, which is another fucking phenomenal movie. So you you you you rose, oh God, who doesn't fucking love Rosie Perez? she you heard of it You have like, it's it's it's the closest thing, it's the closest thing to a perfect, it's like the closest thing to a perfect sports movie, in my opinion. Who's your number one?
00:28:38
Speaker
Raging Bull. oh that's it's It's like the perfect movie. I think like you capture an in-and-out character such as that and the way that it was shot. I think it's Martin Scorsese, I think it's he was the director. he's It's his best film. He brings the best out of Robert De Niro. like The film is like very artistic since it's black and white and the camera angles. But it it tells a true life story, and it's it's amazing. Every time I watch it, I'm like, no, this is an amazing five-star movie. who Your top two movies are boxing movies. Interesting. Boxing is a great storyline. Your top four soccer, soccer, boxing, boxing. No, no, that's but but the thing is, that's those are the sports.
00:29:31
Speaker
You know, you can tell what sports you're into. Yeah. Well, I don't know. I guess I'm more into basketball than anything, but oh I we could do a whole episode on basketball. yeah Oh, my God. There's so many basketball movies. Yeah. And and like mean and i don't I don't want to. before you everyone I don't want to discredit like there's a good baseball movies. Yeah. yo Who's your um the natural field of dreams. These are really good movies. oh The one which about Jackie Robinson was really good. Mr. 3000. Even Mr. 3000. I don't want to like discredit that. And I love basketball movies, but that's one of my... So what's your number one? My number one, and I've said this in a few episodes before,
00:30:17
Speaker
My number one is The Sandlot. That movie saved my life. I'm not going to go into why, because people think I just say stupid shit just to say stupid shit. But The Sandlot, like you mentioned earlier, is one of those movies that it stood the test of time. And it stands the test of time. And it's quoted all the time. It's ah parodied all the time. it's one of the best feel good movies i mean the sandlot when i got older i get so fucking like emotional at the end when all of the
00:31:01
Speaker
friends slowly start disappearing. They're like, you know, squints, be squints, Mary, Wendy, pepper, then he just pooped. He's kind of like banishes and um Tommy and Timmy. And then they poof, you know, and it's like they just all banish. And it's like, man, that's real fucking life, man. You know, like people move away. People get married. People die. And you can only go back in your memory and remember maybe that summer, that fall. You can only remember certain times in your life that were special to you with the people that were special to you. And this fucking like this movie is way deeper than then like I can probably comprehend. And I'm probably making that up, but the sandlot is, to me,
00:31:57
Speaker
the greatest sport movie because it's it's it the whole movie is basically we love baseball so fucking much we play baseball every day and the only fucking thing that stopped them was like 120 degree heat wave where in the movie they're like Benny does not basically allow any of their fucking shenanigans. He only tolerates going swimming. And that led to one of the greatest scenes in movie history where squints, fakes, drowning, just, God, that's so fucking perverted now when you think about it. It is, but it was like,
00:32:38
Speaker
He fakes. Oh, I would have done that. If I was smart enough and brave enough, oh, I would have faked drowning in a heartbeat to fucking kiss a lifeguard. My God, like that's just that the kamrani they had, you know, the the Just Benny being that guy that's just like, shut the fuck up guys. Like stop laughing at this kid. We're gonna teach him how to play ball. And he did everything for him. And then they fast forward to the end of the movie and he's in the pros and he's an announcer. And they're straight friends. That's beautiful, man. And like, you don't get, like it was such a good script. It's perfect heartwarming, but it's also like, there's a time in your life when you're young

that all you want to do is one thing. like For some kids it's going out to play video games, but it's like you can have the freedom and and if you're lucky enough to live around friends. you know like For me it was like we went and played basketball or soccer or football. Didn't play baseball that much really, but it was like an everyday thing in the summer. It didn't matter. and like I'm lucky enough to have had that experience. I'm lucky enough to have people around me that are like, but yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Cause like, I mean, I work with kids and I see it now. They don't have that.
00:33:58
Speaker
they like I mean, some of them do, but others are like, I don't have friends to play. Right. Or a lot of them do like online gaming. Yeah. So it's like, which I mean, if that's, you know, that's the way they connect. That's the way you connect. but They look forward to that every day. So like yeah, I'm like, it is funny that every single day there's kids playing kickball.

Nostalgia and Camaraderie in 'Sandlot' Reminiscence

00:34:18
Speaker
And it's the biggest thing of their life. The Sandlot is one of those movies that always remind like, you'll never get that memory of like that childhood back. You'll never get that back. You can only remember what it was like.
00:34:32
Speaker
And there's, I talked about it, ah I joined a an episode of a podcast with my my friend, Mario, and we went back and kind of like reminisced on like the days that we would sit and play basketball all fucking day in the summer. Every day there was like 20, 30 people at my dad's house. They would all sit on the curb and just wait. We would have like tournaments and there'd be money. My dad would come out and make like fucking 40 ham and cheese sandwiches. He would go to the fucking store and i don't mean now I think about it, he'd probably spend like $100 on fucking ham and cheese sandwiches and he'd come out and he'd offer everybody like a ham. Everyone loved my fucking dad and everyone hated my fucking dad because he would always kick him out the yard when they'd start fighting. And these things, you remember them and it's like,
00:35:24
Speaker
man, if I could go back or even like telling you about it, like if if we, if you and me can go back and yeah and if I can show you just how much, like if I can just, if I can give you that same joy I had when we used to You don't eat ham. But the thing is, my dad would have been like, that's fucking crazy. He just would have gave you like a fucking cheese sandwich this fucking thick. Yeah, that was the thing. People would come over to my place and my mom would make grilled cheese for us. Yeah, it was easy. You put the cheese on there, have it in a griddle, you can make five sandwiches, there's five people over, so the whole team eats. And the thing is, my dad fucking hated my friends, because we were always fighting in the yard, screaming, stuff like that.
00:36:09
Speaker
But he always came out and gave us fucking ham and cheese sandwiches with fucking crispy ass lettuce and whatever fucking canned soda he had.

Audience Interaction: Sports Movie Recommendations

00:36:19
Speaker
And it's like the Sandlot, every time I watch the Sandlot, which I did rewatch it for this purpose, you always kind of go back to those days and be like, fuck man, if I can get that back. So yeah. But as I said, We put it on TV for the younger kids, and they watched it. And that always made me like feel good, because it's like, you see that they watch trash, and they're like, skippy toilets, of the favorite thing. And it's like, what the fuck dead man, we'll watch it an episode later. So like seeing that this like work of art transcends, and then seeing kids actually physically get up and go out and play is great, because it means like there's still hope.
00:37:01
Speaker
like is like people can still go out and enjoy life like because i feel like you know the media like we so many people are like well kids don't play anymore and kids don't appreciate anything it's like well some do one that's good yeah here's the next one top movies sports movies for not sports people which one would i recommend give a few all right so if you're not a sports person and you I think we're both going to say this, so let's just say challengers. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, it's not even like, just like, ah just we go watch challengers. If you're not a sports person, that's like, that's the movie. Cause it's like, ah, God, I'm so fucking good. But you know what? I'll give you another one. If you're not a sports person. There's a few I got that aren't even on my list, but yeah, honey. So if you, and I'm going to just go off of the ones on my list. If you,
00:37:59

are into comedy, Talladega Nights is probably, it's it's one of those movies that came out at the right time because that was the comedy that was hot at the time, like Will Ferrell. I don't like Will Ferrell, I love Talladega Nights. Don't really like his movies, love Talladega Nights. I got another comedy because I had Talladega Nights and I also have Baseball. yeah so ah a fuck i don't know if So it's not so much about the sport because they make up a sport in the movie, but it's great. But and basketball is so fucking good. You know other movies good. I don't know if it holds up the test of time might offend some people. I will. It will. But it's such a good. It's so funny. If you were into like if you're our age, if you're like in your late 20s to like mid 30s and if you love
00:38:54
Speaker
Napoleon Dynamite, you'll love bench warmers. Oh, yeah. There's a scene in bench warmers where this fucking like 30-year-old Dominican guy comes up and they're like, and and they're like, he ain't 12 and he has a fucking picture of him like two days ago in crayon and says, I'm 12. He's like, show me his birth certificate. And he's like fucking drinking beers and the kid comes up and he's like, puppy, puppy. Bench warmers, if you're into like that Napoleon Dynamite type humor, you gotta go bench warmers. Fuck, you could watch scenes of Uncle Rico throwing a football. I'm gonna go one more movie. so there of like I would recommend like Blue Chips, Love and Basketball. I would recommend Love and Basketball, um but like if it's like a younger kid,
00:39:50

They're not going to be into love and basketball, but I think they'll be into hustle. Hustle transcends the sport. I think they'll be in the hustle. If it's like a young kid and he's like, I'm fucking tough. I'll tell him to put on something like above the rim and be like, are you that tough? you know And then my last i Well water boy happy deal. Yeah, yeah, I think comedies transcend well, but they're all like that the one I want to Like raging ball an iron claw. I think people can really just it's it's not so much about the sport But the sport plays obviously like this a super big especially an iron claw. Yeah, you know, you got the they all rest But it's
00:40:39
Speaker
Man, people should just watch it. That movie's fucking good. Yeah, I haven't seen it yet, but i I've heard nothing but good things about Iron Claw. I have to watch that. And I hope, I really hope if you haven't seen any of the top 10 that we mentioned, at least watch one of like the fifteenths I feel like we got like three or four maybe five close like yeah watch like one of any one of our top ten because remember the titans I don't if you haven't seen that yet I don't know what the fuck you've been doing that movie's been shown in schools and yeah watch some of these movies if you want to
00:41:29
Speaker
If you want to see what ball is life really means, ah feel if you want to know why Pat's coworker wears a poetic justice and love and basketball shirt, watch Love and Basketball. that true I think that truly is a movie that you could probably watch without caring about sports. yeah and it's for I think a certain person, but it's great. All the movies we mentioned are great. um If anyone has anything else to say, like, feel free to send us your top movies, sports movies, movies that we might have missed or your own list. And if you hit us up, we'll watch it and review it. Yeah. And if you let us know, just want to give us some comments, we'll read your comment on air.
00:42:19
Speaker
If not, then go enjoy not being fun and watching sports movies. That's it. Yeah. All right.
