00:00:51
Speaker
There's five songs that I listen to throughout the day on Halloween. Are you ready for Freddie? From the Fat Boys, Nightmare on Elm Street, Nightmare on My Street, um Fresh Prince, Somebody's Watching Me, Rockwell. Exit music for a film, Radiohead. It's not like hard and it's not but it's that the song is so eerie and I always listen to it on on Halloween and um Michael Jackson Ghost, which leads me to

Halloween Movie Traditions

00:01:30
Speaker
videos. I always watch music videos and I listen to Michael Jackson Ghost because that's also the video that I watch. Same with the Fat Boy, same with the Fresh Prince.
00:01:42
Speaker
i I love watching those videos. I usually, I probably shouldn't say this, but I usually put it on while I'm driving. and It's all at work. There's one movie that I have not missed since it came out on Halloween. And then I started to notice a trend of movies. So I'm gonna go real quick with the movies. um I may have said this a thousand times, but I watch every Halloween I watch, don't look under the bed. I don't know, it's probably one of my favorite like,
00:02:20
Speaker
childhood horror movie kind of thing, like it's one of those movies. Cause I was genuinely, I came out when I was like 10 ish. So I was chicken shit at that time. So that movie is just so much fun to watch, you know? And Nightmarrow, Dream Warrior and and and Dream Masters, those two are my favorite. Dream Masters might be the worst of all of them.
00:02:46
Speaker
For some reason, um it's not that good, but because I have to watch it right after Dream Warriors, because Dream Warriors to me, besides the original, is probably the best one of the whole series. If I can, I notice every Halloween I always look for the Exorcist, so if I can I try to watch The Exorcist. I don't have it, I don't think I have it on DVD. If I do this at my mom's, and she probably threw it out because it's it's demons.

Halloween Food Rituals

00:03:17
Speaker
oh And i this has been a, this is and will be a tradition for the rest of my life. I watch Hubie Halloween, every Halloween. I don't know what my obsession is with that movie. You guys know I fucking love it, but great movie. I watched it every Halloween since it came out.
00:03:36
Speaker
And then food and drinks. i would I used to drink jungle juice every Halloween for a brief period of time because, well, I just loved the party for a small brief period of time. So I put it on there just because for some reason that was just like the weird choice. I just loved fucking jungle juice at that time. But every single Halloween that I can remember, as far back as I can remember,
00:04:00
Speaker
Chocolate milk, always have chocolate milk. Hershey with almonds. My dad used to have them, so that was like the snack I ate while I was watching movies. And Domino's Pizza, and I'll tell you why. Shout out to my boy. I don't know what he wants me to call him, so I'm gonna call him B Dub. But he was the manager at Domino's when we were younger, and ah but always would give me free pizza because he was the manager, and like, you know, through my cousin, Polina, through my cousin, placido He's good, you know, good good peoples and he's the one who taught me I'm saying no, so. But anyways, yeah, Domino's Pizza is for whatever reason, I have it every Halloween. so Maybe not the pizza, but I order from Domino's every Halloween. I got like breadsticks last year. oh After we got done trick or treating, I stopped by and got breadsticks. But yeah, Domino's Pizza, chocolate milk, and a Hershey with almonds, it just seems like those are always three things that I have.
00:04:58
Speaker
a Halloween and that's my like ritual, I guess we'll call it.

Costumes and Trick-or-Treating

00:05:02
Speaker
Julia, do you have a ritual? Okay. Um, I don't know what I would, if I would call it a ritual, but I guess there are some like basic things that I end up doing every Halloween. Like I, I typically don't wear a costume the day of Halloween, but I will always have like an inspired adjacent outfit, like, like the,
00:05:25
Speaker
the mood, I definitely set the tone. I have some kind of, I usually do a week of Halloween outfits, you know, whether it be like seven black dresses or like seven, you know, themed outfits that are like regular work appropriate outfits, not costumes, but like the, the energy is there. The day of Halloween,
00:05:48
Speaker
So normally Halloween is a very busy time for me so I'm not a big coffee or energy drink drinker but the day of Halloween I'll usually have either coffee or I get the Alani Nu witches brew energy drink because that's out at this time of year. It's shocking and really good. Yeah definitely you've got to have the Halloween playlist playing I don't know if this is like a ritual, but it just, again, like normally the week of Halloween is like very, very hectic with all the stuff I have going on. There's like different events at work. I'm going to stuff in my personal life. There's usually like six Halloween parties. So I don't usually like get my hair done or things like that, but I will like the one time a year, if I get my hair done, it's usually like the week of Halloween. So I don't have to worry about it or like I'll get my nails done, which I don't ever do.
00:06:42
Speaker
Um, because it's like Halloween time and I don't have time. So these are usually things I would do myself, but that's become like kind of a tradition. And then normally I'll either go trick or treating or put candy out at home, which people don't go trick or treating anymore. So I'll either take someone's kids, trick or treating. And even though literally not a soul trick or treats where I live, I will put out candy. No one ever takes it.
00:07:10
Speaker
but I just have really strong feelings and wanna uphold that tradition of trick or treating. So I will put candy outside of my apartment no matter what. It hopes that someone will. And I think there's like maps where you can like put yourself on a map and let people know. But like, look let's bring back trick or treating. Cause listen, I went trick or treating every single year of my life up until I was like probably 18 years old.
00:07:40
Speaker
It's so much fun. Yeah. So I know these are different times that we live in. There's a lot going on, but like trick or treating. It depends on the area. Well, yeah. some areas Some areas still do it. Like yeah. Last year I stopped in a friend's house and they had a lot of kids trick or treating, but then there's other areas that don't. Yeah. The thing is nowadays, what you have to do is you have to drive like 20 minutes to go trick or treating, which is fine. And that's normally what people do. Like if I'm like babysitting, if I'm hanging out with someone that has kids, like we'll just drive over to, you know, Haddon Heights, Collingswood, an area like that where they do have trick or treating. You've got to go to like the rich neighborhoods. They don't really do that out here. We did Haddon Heights last year and they gave good candy. Not the best, but they gave good candy.
00:08:36
Speaker
Um, I think that's pretty much it. I, you know, I just have, time yeah, you know, drink witches brew, have your Halloween playlist going, have like a nice outfit on, but that's right. Let's move on. We're doing Halloween recommendations.

Halloween TV Specials

00:08:54
Speaker
Here's how it's going to go.
00:08:55
Speaker
we're going to start with Halloween TV slash like, yeah, we'll do Halloween TV. So like TV episodes and we're going to base and we'll go around and ah everyone will kind of like give off one until we're out. Cool. I got mine in categories. It's one category. So wait, this is the, all right. So we'll do like TV specials.
00:09:22
Speaker
So this is TV and then we're doing movies. Yeah. great Okay. There's a lot of great TV specials that have stand stood the test of time, that hold the good nostalgia, that perpetuate stories, that perpetuate motifs that are alive in the horror genre, and more often than not, some kids learn about greater horror from an introduction of through a TV special. So I figured that was a good way to kick this off. Yeah, and you know, it's it's funny because
00:09:58
Speaker
We often look past TV when you think about, you know, watching something for Halloween. We kind of always go to movies and we always go to like the big movies, you know, like your, your big three and stuff like that. And and then we'll get it and we will get into those later and we can start off Halloween special. Go. Okay. So do you want me to run off all mine?
00:10:25
Speaker
Just give one. We'll all go around until we're out. I don't have a special. I have episodes. All right. Yeah. Episodes and specials are the same thing. OK. OK. They're all the same show. So category monsters, Shaun and Gus of the Dead. It's about mummies. All right. I'm going Halloween is Grinch Night. All right. That great one. That was going to be one of the first ones that I said.
00:10:52
Speaker
I'm just going to say um Treehouse of Horror, especially the one with The Shining. Okay. I'm going to go, I'm going to one up you and I'm going to go with Paranormal and Thrillers because they hit both categories. um Here's Lassie, which is a play off of Ghostbusters and The Shining. Nice.
00:11:18
Speaker
No, that's just his name. okay um All right. I'm going to go Mad Monster Party, which might be a movie, but I think it's short. So I'm going to call it a TV special. All right. Fair enough. All right. the the one of Some of the best ah Halloween cartoons, TV specials out there um come from regular show underrated. The um Camp of Horror is great. Recommend it highly.
00:11:46
Speaker
All right, so then I will, since you mentioned the word camp, I'm going to go with um Tuesday the 17th and I'm still talking all psych. So Tuesday the 17th camp hour episode. Nice. All right. I'm going to go.
00:12:04
Speaker
This is a double feature. A lot of my, my list is organized as like all double features, but I'm going to say this is a Cartoon Network original scary godmother Halloween spooktacular and also the sequel scary godmother, the revenge of Jimmy. Thanks. Seen it. I like it. Um,
00:12:27
Speaker
King of the Hill, the Halloween episode where they she goes to the, Luanne gets courted by the ah guy who runs the pig farm and um he holds a Halloween party. It's one of the funniest and most disturbing things I've ever seen. I'm going to go next with probably my favorite, it's definitely my top three favorite episode of the whole series. Not even close encounters.
00:12:56
Speaker
It's an alien abduction episode and it's got Freddie Prince Jr. And he is a closet nerd. Not even close encounters. It's a alien. I'm sorry. I thought you were just saying, Oh, no, no, no, no. I'm sorry. No, no, no. That's the name of the episode. All right. I'm going to go. This, this is a whole series, but it's TV, the hunting to kill house. That's a good one. yeah that That counts. Like, cause, cause it's like one story.
00:13:26
Speaker
But should I say, again, I have it as a double feature. Should it should I say the other show or should I wait? Probably. Say the other way. Are you doing Blind Manor? No. I was doing... Midnight Mass? No. Rose of Red. Oh. Perfect. Yeah. Because I was going to pick Midnight Mass next.
00:13:45
Speaker
oh great show yeah Yeah Midnight mass is similar to like I feel like these Netflix shows like they're like for they're like four to eight episodes They're all amazing. Well, not all of them are amazing, but they are they're great. I highly recommend Oh, so it's probably my favorite out of all of the Yeah, what's it who's the director? flagan oh my plan i yeah mid as Is the best my playing in show I'm gonna stay with Paramormal, possibly my favorite episode out of the whole series, definitely above the one I just mentioned, um called Devil is in the Details and in the Upstairs Bathroom. It is a possession episode and it's possibly their greatest work of the series. All right, so I'm getting to the end of my list, i have but I have like two things left.
00:14:39
Speaker
One thing on my list is a YouTube channel that has good like ambient, um, like music and animations. So I can mention that, or I have a list or just like five anthology series that you can just put on in the back. I was just saying, can you save the YouTube one? Cause I have a section for that later. Okay. Yeah. So I'll save that. Should I save the anthologies? Oh, no, no. Drop the anthologies. Okay. I'm just going to go just put on the TV.
00:15:07
Speaker
The Twilight Zone, Tales from the Dark Side, Tales from the Crypt or Creepshow, just put any one of them on TV, but also like the original, not the remakes of any of them, not the new Twilight Zone, not the new Creepshow. Those are fine, I'm just not really interested for this purpose, just know I'm specifically recommending the original. Julia, have you seen the, I think it's a Tales from the Crypt with, um Uh, Tim Curry plays like three characters and it's like disgusting. Is that one of the movies? It's I, I don't know. I can't remember. Cause that reminds, so I also want to mention I'm not recommending the movie. I know there's like a Twilight zone movie, like a tales from the dark side movie, not recommending the movie, like specifically the TV show. Like any of those are a safe bet. Just pop it on.
00:16:04
Speaker
you're up pat okay Hey Arnold has some really good Halloween specials that ah hit hard both emotionally and deliver like solid scares for kids and adults. I recommend it. Enrique you go. All right. Sticking with paranormal. Um, the last season they had was short, but nightmare on, nightmare on state street.
00:16:32
Speaker
was a dream-related sleep-deprived show, but it guest-starred Bruce Campbell as Bruce Campbell, the doctor, not Bruce Campbell, the actor. Bruce Campbell's great. He's fucking hilarious. All right, Pat, go. I highly recommend, so like, I'm a big sucker for like a a horror host, whether it's like Avira, Stella, the Man-Eater from Man-Yonk,
00:16:58
Speaker
Svengoli or Joe Bob. um So like literally any one of them and they all have amazing Halloween specials. um Most of them are free on YouTube. If you have shutter, you can watch Joe Bob and and he's got a lot of great stuff. The Halloween hoedown is always amazing. You get so much more than a horror movie. You get so much like depth and just entertainment. So I'm i'm just like a big sucker for like an old timey horror host.
00:17:29
Speaker
All right, I'm gonna

Background Content for Halloween Parties

00:17:30
Speaker
go, it's like a, it was three season finales, but they, the three season finales were part one, part two, part three. And evening with Mr. Yang, Mr. Yang presents in Yang three and 2D. It's a serial killer episode, more of like a, not a murder mystery, because you know who did it, but it was like a crime thriller, I guess. Murder thriller, I don't know.
00:17:58
Speaker
glad but still got um that oh ill in there on there okay and now I mean, I, I just went through the list of, I mean, I, I didn't feel like going through like different shows cause there's a bunch X files and, and, uh, are you afraid of the dark was pretty creepy growing up? Um, I was going to say, what um, are you afraid of a dark as well? Yeah. Yeah. That that was fun.
00:18:27
Speaker
but i i wanted to stick with a show that i've i've seen the series, seriously, all jokes aside, this the whole series, probably like 10, 15 times. So there are a few episodes that I watched at this time of the year, which I always watch the, uh, that was in the details. Um, it's a possession. It's an episode where some girl at a Catholic school gets possessed and she dies. Like she falls off a thing. They said she was possessed, but it turns out that
00:19:00
Speaker
Um, someone was trying to sleep with her boyfriend. So instead they were giving her like medication and medication made her go crazy. and But great. It's, it's, it's, I figured I was ignoring, let me break it down and and one show and kind of break down through category. So, um, yeah, that's why I went that route.
00:19:20
Speaker
All right, cool. So we're going to move away from that um before we get into movies. Actually, I want to do so. Let's say let's say you have some people over and it's Halloween or like a Halloween party. You're doing an activity and you want something on for the background. So just something on the TV, kind of like this is where I want to like get into, like,
00:19:44
Speaker
There's so many good streaming options. um Julia, feel free to list the ah ones you have because I feel like ours might be similar. So I'm specifically going to recommend one YouTube channel that they have all different and they have them for like all holidays or some of them are just like vintage music. But this channel is called Nemo's Dreamscapes and they just have different like, they have a lot of videos where it's like,
00:20:11
Speaker
you know, where it's like oldies music playing in the other room on a record player and also it's raining. They make like those kind of videos, but they also have a lot of holiday ones, so it'll be like...
00:20:23
Speaker
It's like an animation of like a black cat sleeping on a windowsill and there's a jack-o'-lantern and it's playing like vintage Halloween music. firm I was gonna play it in the background. um Yeah, I have that as well. That's like the main, um there's other channels, but that's like the only one I really like know of off the top of my head. That's like this specific channel. Like whenever I have a party at my house, no matter like what time of year, I usually like pop on something from that channel.
00:20:52
Speaker
I'm not big on, well, no, no, I'm sorry. Let me backtrack. Not that I'm not big. I'm not hit to like YouTube channels and stuff. Cause I don't know. I just never explored that world and stuff like that. I'm not really even hit to like podcasts really, which I want to, I want to, but if, if I had to choose
00:21:17
Speaker
And I also have, I can't remember far back when we had parties, I was usually fucked up so I couldn't remember, I can't remember now what it did, but I probably would just do like a show, like ah like I would just have like a show in the background. um Probably the X-Files, I would probably have the X-Files on in the background, I would probably like,
00:21:37
Speaker
Now, I would have the X-Files on in the background, but if, let's say like my mom or, you know, like if the baby's around, like if my great nephew's around, I honestly, and I noticed we started doing this at work, and this is a great go-to.
00:21:55
Speaker
fucking Haunted Mansion from like last year or the year before, that's great background noise. That, Hubie Halloween, like I would play like that or like a Disney Channel movie, like a Disney Channel original movie. If there's like a crowd that doesn't really fuck with it,
00:22:13
Speaker
But if I'm with just my peoples, then I'm probably putting on that. Nine times out of 10, I'm putting on the X-Files. One I forgot to mention that like this is 100% on the TV. like You just put on, um what is the show called? What's that Cartoon Network show? I'm so sorry. Adventure Time? No, but it's like Adventure Time, but like spooky and whimsical. Over the garden wall? Over the garden wall.
00:22:42
Speaker
Yeah, I'm sorry. I just like interrupted. I was like, this the show you gotta put on and I couldn't remember the name. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Because like I said, I never Have you seen Over the Garden Wall? No, I haven't. Mandatory viewing. i work For a Halloween party, it's a mandatory viewing. I'll watch it tonight. definite it's It's a short show because I want to say it's about if you watch the entire show, it's about the length of a movie. Like if you watch every episode, it's maybe an hour and a half.
00:23:11
Speaker
Yeah, I'll see if I can find it. I think it's on Hulu. Yeah. It is streaming. Honestly, shutter dropped the um they have a Google log and that was really cool. And for fans of stop motion, they have a mad god Google log. That's like 10 hours long. And it's like super cool. um It's a great visual. So like I've been putting that on with like music.
00:23:39
Speaker
um that we've talked about earlier from a YouTube channel. You know, I got, I finally upgraded and I got a smart TV and because I, you know, I'm an adult in my thirties and not a child anymore. It's, and and now like I can have Shutter on the TV and I have had the Google log on his background. I didn't even think about that, but I have had that like from cooking or something like that. I have had that on in the background. so
00:24:10
Speaker
It's super interesting. I love like a TV screen saver type of thing. yeah And I love that they have those on streaming services now because that's kind of like something from back in the day. And I like that we've carried that over. I like that because even even Netflix has like sometimes like in the fall and winter, like Netflix even has like Google logs or just fireplace backgrounds.
00:24:38
Speaker
So if you have Netflix, you can just pop like a fireplace on your TV at your Christmas party. Sorry, we're not talking about Christmas. All right.

Classic Halloween Movie Recommendations

00:24:53
Speaker
What's going on the TV movies? Halloween day. Then we'll get into a Halloween weekend movie thon. Um, cause I feel like they carry different vibes. Halloween day.
00:25:06
Speaker
sometimes it would be geared more family friendly and maybe less labor intensive where you're not paying attention to. Okay, I have a bunch. And like I said, all of mine are organized as double features. So yeah Julia, you're allowed to give two. Okay, so just pick one double feature for Halloween. This is Halloween day. Yeah. Okay. All right. This is 10 out of 10.
00:25:33
Speaker
hear me out, everyone has seen Scooby Doo on Zombie Island, correct? yeah everybody Everybody knows that movie, but you have to watch it as a double feature with Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman. Because I feel like every time I've ever mentioned that, no one knows that movie exists. I might have made it up. It might be a fever dream, but Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman. It sounds real.
00:26:03
Speaker
For me, that was always right up there with Zombie Island. And like they just go together in my mind, but no one has ever heard of the other one. But watch those two as a double feature. OK. So Halloween day, like daytime, I am popping on Hoobie Halloween in the daytime, guaranteed. Most likely when I wake up, that's when I'm watching.
00:26:32
Speaker
Get it right up. Start the day off perfect. Just like you run the you run the open and kick off for six, you know? Like, who behind me is that? Whatever that means. Yeah, that's what I would say. The the Fierce Street Trio. In the daytime for daytime? I mean, oh, Halloween day that that goes into night like you but because that's like an all day marathon. Yeah, okay it's a solid story. It's interwoven, but like and it's it's better than and it has any right to be. But it's still like you don't need to pay attention to every second of every moment. OK, so I did my I did my Halloween daytime like when the sun's out.
00:27:17
Speaker
Did you want like my Halloween day? Because I want to start a tradition. I just found out I really like screen more than I like to give it credit for. And I'm starting to think I need to make that a tradition and start watching that every Halloween night. All right. So you're going to screen. I'm going.
00:27:40
Speaker
opening kickoff for six with hubby halloween and i'm going kneel down with you know up 30 kneel down with screen run the clock out sorry more slang those are old words but in between i'm watching the movies i mentioned but i feel like that's i'm gonna do that this year i'm gonna like start and finish with those two movies that i mentioned yeah So I definitely every I also every year I pick a different classic to rewatch. Like I've done Halloween, I've done Scream, I did Friday the 13th. This year my plan is was to do Nightmare on Elm Street. I might change that around. 40 year anniversary. Yeah, so but that's on my watch list for the month or like the week of because it'll take realistically maybe a week.
00:28:36
Speaker
All right, but that was data. So are we on? Yeah. All right. So movie recommended. And this is like the big one. This is the the meat and potatoes of the ah fucking episode. um I'm going to give a category. Oh,
00:28:56
Speaker
and we're gonna go down the list. We'll start with, it's a Halloween weekend, you're throwing a movie-thon for your friends. Your friends aren't, um some of them are horror fans, some of them aren't the biggest horror fans. ah They wanna watch, and then the first category is gonna be classics. Where do you start? If there are any non-horror fans present, it's gotta be Halloween.
00:29:25
Speaker
Like that's the one thing to take away from this. If you haven't seen Halloween yet, just sit your ass down and listen. right well Here's a, here's a fun, here's a funny, um, side note to that. So my cousin and I had never seen Halloween ever in her life, the original, right? And we're like, fuck, you gotta watch it. So we sat down and we watched it. She's like, this movie fucking sucks.
00:29:52
Speaker
and listen she's a great person she lost a lot of aura points that day no but that's what i thought but it made a lot of sense because we saw that younger so it's terrifying but now as adults we're we're so numb to the thing is i don't think it was ever terrifying it just like listen and being it doesn't have to be scary and i said this before like the dark is fucking terrifying Yeah, but like stuff on a TV screen is never scary to me, so I never get that argument. Anyway. But yeah, that's like, if we're going classics, um, basically I say that to say like, if someone, if there are people present that haven't really seen the classics, it's, I'm going with like,
00:30:38
Speaker
I'm obsessed with the fact that like anytime any of my friends says, oh, I've never seen this, I'm like, we have to watch it. If my friend says, oh, I've never been to this restaurant, I've never eaten this food, we have to try it. So like any like of your basic, like your your top three, your top five, if they haven't seen those core movies, I'm putting on whatever they haven't seen. And I think Halloween's a good choice.
00:31:04
Speaker
and then i feel like If there's someone who's like a modern horror fan and they seen they've seen Scream, they've seen Nightmare on Elm Street, I would put on like the old universal monster movies if they haven't seen those yet. Like if they're like, Oh, those classics. Yeah. If they're like, I've seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's like, all right, we're going to watch like Dracula, Nosferatu, like Frankenstein.
00:31:32
Speaker
Okay, what are you doing? I'm in a room full of people as What's the context again? They've never they don't really watch hard like that or some watch it just picture It's people that want to watch hard classics that may not have seen all the classics that are interested I'm gonna give a different scenario for each like section Okay, so You know what? um Here's what I'm gonna go with. I'm in a room and it's a bunch of my friends and some of their friends and some people I don't even know who the fuck they are, right? And they're like, all right, so what's the movie we're watching? we We want to get into like, we want to get into horror. We want to start like show us some classics. I'm putting Candyman on. I'm putting the original Candyman on. I feel like that's a movie not a lot of people know, like,
00:32:24
Speaker
don't see candy man in the mirror, but people don't know the movie. Yeah. They don't really get the reference. Like they know that, but it's like bloody married to them. They don't really know anything else about it. So I would put on the original candy man. That's a, that's a, that's a good entry.
00:32:41
Speaker
Um, also like there is no repeats. So like, um, with that, I think I go, yeah if if it's like, all right, you're going candy, man. I'm going to go with like a final destination or like an urban legends. They, they, they're classics that aren't like thought about that much. And I feel like the final destination has a lot of cultural impact, but it like doesn't get that credit. So I think to kick off like a horror movie thon.
00:33:10
Speaker
where we're watching classics, like starting them off with like ah a final destination would be a fun way to kick off the day. I think that would be better than like urban legends. yeah I don't know. I just feel like the cultural importance of final destination is just brushed right under the rug. You're right. You're definitely right. But I feel like urban legends is a little bit more tonally appropriate.
00:33:38
Speaker
It just gives a little more like urban legends is a little bit cozier. Is it cause like, is it cause final destinations like silly in a way? For some reason, it just gives more Halloween to me. It it does. okay It just gives that time of year, like okay final destination. Our urban legend is like spooky, cozy Halloween night. Okay. That's a good, that's a good point. Um,
00:34:08
Speaker
All right. So we we we we're checking off the classics. We're going to go. So like that you you got your classic. We we watched it. What if they want to see now? A vampire movie.

Vampire Movie Picks

00:34:22
Speaker
um And since Julia, you already said like um universal, we'll say dr the original Dracula is off the board. OK, I actually have on my personal watch list for this season.
00:34:37
Speaker
like not specifically recommendations, but what I'm watching is a lot of vampire movies. So I can just name a couple that are on my list right now. okay yeah I just watched, I read the book and then I watched the original Salem's Lot. This week I was gonna watch the 2004 Salem's Lot and then they just released the brand new 2024 Salem's Lot on Max. So I'm like speed running all of those.
00:35:05
Speaker
I want to do a Salem's Lot episode only because I did the same thing. I read Salem's Lot and i will I just finished the new one today. I am just binging hours of Salem's Lot content, so I'm here for it. Did you do Return to Salem's Lot? I did, unfortunately. All right, we'll see. We will have to do a Salem's Lot because also, if you can't find the new one, I have it on DVD, the two thousand the right low one
00:35:35
Speaker
actually yeah It'll probably just be easier for me to get it cuz it is on Apple TV and my DVD players like not set up I think I can set it up, but so I have a like a yeah and a DVD player from like 1990 so to get them to function together is not easy Yeah, cuz I couldn't find it and I had it so I just watched it Yeah, we'll talk about a lot about Salem's lot in the future great choice. I watched John Carpenter's vampires. That was pretty good. That's also like a great to watch like as a double feature with Salem's lot. Cause they just had- Oh, I was gonna say, did you but did you see the sequel?
00:36:15
Speaker
to vampires. which is Yeah, not yet. It's va pilot such a fun movie. It's funny. It was on my list and then it looked kind of silly. So I took it off my list and I wasn't sure. But if ah if it is like culturally accepted, I wasn't sure like what the Consensus on that is but okay. This is a New Jersey Theme like flavored podcast and Bon Jovi is in that So I know that so there you go from dust till dawn. I feel like goes along with those That's right up there. Um, let me see if I have any other vampire stuff on my list I had all of the Twilight movies on my Watch list. I probably won't rewatch them because I have seen them all
00:37:02
Speaker
I just think it's like funny. So if you just want like, they do kind of have like cozy vibes because like it's raining in every Twilight movie. If you haven't seen Twilight like every Twilight movie is just blue. There's just like this blue filter. So it's very like dark, rainy, foggy.
00:37:26
Speaker
it's not sporting But I do recommend, like again, I'm obsessed with like people who haven't seen things, especially like things that I think are culturally relevant. So all of the Twilight movies, why not? and Enrique, some vampire movies. I've actually, I've had a list for the past year and a half of vampire research movies that I'm doing for research. So since I can't use none of the ones she used,
00:37:53
Speaker
Give me the vibe and I'll throw a movie out. Like are we talking? No, no, no, it's whatever you want. They're coming to use it. We want vampires. All right. So I'm going to put a documentary on Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter. Okay. Uh, I just saw Fright Night and Fright Night. Which one? Common Feral or the original? Okay. The original the Common Feral.
00:38:21
Speaker
it so But then as a joke, I'll put on, mom's got a date with a vampire because that's literally the same, it's the same exact thing. It's just for kids. Then we'll go and we'll chug some fucking Alani's energy witch brew drinks and watch all the underworld movies. And then if you still don't feel like running outside and like punching a tree, then I'm gonna put on all the Blade movies.
00:38:52
Speaker
if you just want to get buck wild. But if not, i mean i do have ah I do got a few other ones. like um i So Dracula Untold was a really, really fun movie for me. So I would recommend, I would probably put that on. And then one of my favorites, one of my favorites is Dracula 2000.
00:39:16
Speaker
Um, so I'll probably put that on and then as people are leaving, they're like, I'm tired, man. I'm going home. I'll just tell them, hold up. And then I'll probably put on, um, I don't know. You know what? Van Helsing was a bad, it wasn't a good movie, but I didn't mind it. I'll put on Van Helsing because everybody's leaving and they don't give a fuck, but it's still a vampire movie.
00:39:42
Speaker
What about last word of the Demeter? I was going to, that one was on on my list. Yeah, but that's, that's in with like the newer releases yeah um category.
00:39:55
Speaker
buffy van I want to say Christopher Lee, any of the vampire movies he's in, he's in a lot. Um, I, I highly recommend that vampir. Um, I want to say that's in like the 1970s.
00:40:10
Speaker
ah That's like the Nosferatu sequel. That one's really awesome. oh Blood for Dracula, that's the Andy Warhol one. Me and Enrique watched it. That fucking movie is... That's fucking wild. like That's the movie you show when like people start leaving and then they come back because it's like you can't leave with that on. That's the movie you show like 50-year-old men who do not respect women.
00:40:41
Speaker
yeah that that i love I do love that movie. It was such a wild ride. I wasn't prepared for any of it. And um man, Andy Warhol is a weird guy. The writing in that movie was basically Dracula's dying and he needs a virgin and he's eating all these women and he's just like, you fucking whores.
00:41:04
Speaker
And he keeps dying because he can't tell who's a virgin. No one's a virgin anymore and fucking Dracula's not a guy. That's a great movie. It is so good. just yes up He just yells out, get away from me you whore. and as is a a holding cra god is such a great i I love that movie. like It brings like a lot of schlockiness to it. they're they're Just like the like some of the Christopher Lee ones do. Bram Stoker's Dracula, if you want a good Dracula movie. And then Nicolas Cage won a vampire's kiss where he thinks he's a vampire and he actually, he ate the roaches. And the roaches he ate in the movie, um he ate them in real life because he's a method actor.
00:41:56
Speaker
Watch those movies, they're great. um <unk>ine no one asked him or told him to do that just No, they actually told him not to and he's like, but I need it to be real.
00:42:08
Speaker
um my my The other fun story is there's a scene where he catches a bird and they they had to, they they he was like he was adamant on him actually catching a bird because he thought he could do it. So they had to drug the birds to be slow.
00:42:25
Speaker
so he would catch them um because they they spent hours of him running around not catching birds with his bare hands. Yeah, no, there's a lot of great ah vampire movies. Those are some of my favorites. Let's go into slashers.

Slasher and Modern Horror Films

00:42:41
Speaker
Okay, this is maybe technically a slasher, but this was the only one on my list that fits that. The double feature, Evil Dead 1 and 2, because I feel like that's also That's like a classic must-watch Halloween night. Yeah. I guess you could call that a slasher. I was going to give this. All right. Yeah, that's that slasher enough. You do be slashing. Yeah. So I guess that's a slasher. I mean, what the term is, you just got to slash one person. I'm assuming maybe slashing. yeah Yeah. Evil Dead One and Two. Great movie. You should have seen them at Mahoney recently. All right. Enrique, what do you got for slashers? so
00:43:22
Speaker
Man so slashes the thing is there's so many good slasher movies. I think if Off of the top of my you know what I'm really happy you introduced me to the Victor Crowley series the nineteen because pretty pretty new. They're like late 2010 push in 2020, if I'm not mistaken, is when Victor Crowley came out, right? Something like that. Yeah. Yeah. eighteen They're new movies, but they're made to be like those like, oh, like, God, this is so bad, but I love it kind of movies. like They're not bad movies. They're just like your typical slasher, like old school slasher movie. But it's made to give you, like the the Asian guy is a different character in every movie.
00:44:14
Speaker
that's i mean that's fucking hilarious you know He plays him, then he dies, and he plays his twin brother. He plays his twin brother, then he dies, and he plays like a completely different like movie agent with Alyssa Rose. and then No, it was his cousin. Oh, was that his cousin? Yeah, but he just happened to be his movie agent. Yeah, like i would probablyly I would probably say those just to have a little bit of fun. Fucking creep. Oh, I would watch creep.
00:44:45
Speaker
I would definitely sit there and creep one and two. And I feel like that's creep. Creep is such a romantic movie. Creep 2 is such a fucking romantic movie. It's crazy that it's a slasher. And I said it earlier, so I don't know if it counts, but you know what? I'm going to go with Scream 5, Scream 6. All right.
00:45:16
Speaker
Nice. I truly and genuinely enjoy Scream 5 and Scream 6. As much, who knows? But I know I truly enjoyed those two. Insane take. We hit a lot of the slashers already. like I do want to say ah the Leslie Vern story. I was going to say that too. Yeah, like that that one's really good.
00:45:44
Speaker
um Like that's kind of what I had. It's it it does have the vibes of Halloween because they're like technically going on Thanksgiving break. Um, but madman thanks killing also thanks. la Yeah. Yeah. Madman's like a camp slasher movie, but for some reason the camp is going on in like November, October, November. So it,
00:46:15
Speaker
It makes no sense, but it it does like he has like all the vibes of a horror, like a summer slasher, but they're wearing sweaters because it's pulled out. So I'll go with that. Yeah, but I did just watch that again recently.
00:46:34
Speaker
Another good one. Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt, but that is. Yeah, no, no, no, that is that was good one. Let's let's move away. So we have slashers. I think we've got that one covered. so let's do modern movies modern movies that's a good one because i don't what's modern yeah but is like all right let's say 2020 and on oh oh you mean so you don't mean modern you mean like new releases new release oh yeah new release modern i consider like 2010 julia that's 10 that's
00:47:16
Speaker
14 years old. Is it not modern? I don't know. Man, shut the hell up. That was 14 years ago. 14 years ago. My kid can drive. I consider modern to mean like non-vintage. And vintage starts like 20 years ago. So anything literally starting from like 2004 on is like modern-ish because we're talking about versus like 80s slashers versus like 1940s classics. When you say modern, I'm thinking, okay, paranormal activity. All right. All right. So if the scenario is
00:47:59
Speaker
We go to the movies constantly, but a lot of our friends do not. So we've seen like every single thing that's come out and there have been some bangers in the past few years, but a lot of people just have not seen them yet. I'm doing a double feature of smile and talk to me. Oh, hell yeah. Because a lot of, I know a lot of people have just haven't seen them yet. I feel like you can probably do like smile and then take them to go see smile too.
00:48:30
Speaker
Yeah, I know specifically like last year at my like Halloween party, I think I put on Smile. Oh, Smile's great. We watched Chisel and Corn. Yeah. Yeah, that was bad. Or no, we watched Pet Sematary. Pet Sematary, that's the one, Pet Sematary. And I was pissed because we're watching the new Pet Sematary and I find out one of my friends sitting there has not seen Pet Sematary and did not know what it was about.
00:48:57
Speaker
because I was like trying to figure out something that was happening in the new one. And I was like, all right, so like we know they come back, but like how does this work? And my friend goes, wait, what? they come And I was like, yeah, you know how they you know you bury them, and they come back, and they're like, no, I don't know. I've never seen Pet Sematary. And I was like, what the fuck? Yes. It was pretty strange. So there's someone out there that has seen Pet Sematary bloodlines.
00:49:26
Speaker
and none of the other world. And has not seen it. That was their introduction of heads. I do have some. All right, go. So I, not in any order, these aren't like top the bottom, but Hell House Carmichael Manor scared the shit out of me. I am not even fucking joking. Not even scared the shit out of me.
00:49:54
Speaker
That was a great modern horror movie. Great choice. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate that. Blink Twice was a lot of fucking fun. Oh, wait. Double Feature has to be Blink Twice and Strange Darling. Strange Darling was the next one. But they have to be a double feature. I'm saying, though. Blink Twice. Fucking Channing Tatum, man. I don't know. So good.
00:50:22
Speaker
fucking Channing Tatum. like Who the fuck would have thought Channing Tatum? you know but so it's private The thing is, I love Channing Tatum so much. I went into it thinking like it's probably going to suck because I didn't want to go into it thinking, like God, I love Channing Tatum. He's going to be great. And I walked out of it like, God, I love fucking Channing Tatum. He's great.
00:50:45
Speaker
but went twice Amazing movie strange dials my next one strange darling. God strange darling was so fucking Strange darling was like what the fuck you stupid bitch to both the cop the guy The woman the fucking woman with the gun at the end of the movie like everyone i'm just think like the the lady, the old couple, it with everyone, it's like, what the fuck you stupid bitch? Yeah, they were both, and I think they came out, I saw them the same week, they came out right around the same time. They're two completely different movies, but I just feel like the vibes were so similar, they have some of like the same themes, and they just fit together like so seamlessly.
00:51:33
Speaker
Yeah, I'm not gonna lie though, those two movies, great fucking movies. There is one more and I had it in my head, but then I started thinking about Channing Tatum and I lost it. But let's move on, I guess, because I probably won't remember it.
00:51:53
Speaker
I'm gonna say um for for newer ones like I would throw in late night with the devil I think that's it's fun enough um yeah to For a lot of people um I really liked it and then just if if you go back like a through few years Barbarian is a lot of fun that that hits I think like for a good ah broad audience Oh, maybe I would do I wouldn't do skin immersing just cuz like i that but you know and what It's a it is a hard time I think I think with the right group of people The Pope's Exorcist could be the most fun to watch in a group. I Would make all my friends miserable and make them sit in silence and watch skin wearing
00:52:43
Speaker
i Just remember The movie I was thinking of fucking dash cam and I just so dash ca I just rewatched it recently and I'm like fucking Annie you bitch. I love you. That's a great one too so they be god she is so fucking vulnerableable the The next one Like, we're just gonna go movies you like that you might recommend to someone that says, I want a movie to watch or they're over your place for a movie thon.

Personal Horror Favorites and Underrated Picks

00:53:15
Speaker
We're gonna go rapid fire till we run out. Or we'll do four rounds. thats I think that's fair. because we're Is this like our last category? ah It is, but there's like another category where I just say if you if we've missed something safe.
00:53:30
Speaker
Okay, I was gonna say, do I need to get rid of all of my, so wait, this is just, what's what's this category? It's movies personal to us that we, like someone comes and says, I wanna watch a horror movie. um We've watched all these other movies. We wanna end the night with one or two more. Your choice. They sat through everything else you've recommended. And now you get a chance to either go with like an underrated weird movie or show them a classic that we missed.
00:54:00
Speaker
Okay, I kind of have like a, there's a couple that I just didn't mention that I'll save for the end. There's like two more like double features I didn't mention, but I have a category that's just kind of all in the same genre realm. So I'll use those for that. All right. Are we going one at a time? are we Yeah, yeah, start it off, Julia. Grave encounters. Yes, that was gonna be my number one. So I'm glad you said it.
00:54:28
Speaker
All right. So then I'm going to stick with, I'm going to stick with a new movie and the Pope's Exorcist. Nice. Underrated one didn't get a lot of stuff, but dead stream. All right. Um, I'm going with throwback ghost watch. Nice. Okay. Um, let's tone it down a little bit. I'll stay with new Lisa Frankenstein.
00:54:58
Speaker
All right, I'm going with This is not quality. We're not looking for quality. We're looking for a fun time the Blackwell ghost Okay, all right, I'm gonna go back carnival assaults All right, so then ah ski Let's let's start to laugh a little bit, you know, and let's put on some Shawn of the dead
00:55:28
Speaker
All right. um I'm still in my, the vibe I'm going with this list here is let's pretend ghosts are real and have fun with it. Even though these are really shitty mockumentaries and I'm going to go with the house in between. Nice. so then How many more do we have? Cause I'm about to shake it up.
00:55:52
Speaker
Shake it up go and then I'll go and then we'll do a ah final round. So then I'm about to shake it up. you Everybody's like, oh man, I love these great movies. I saw them in theaters and then I'm going to be like, yeah, but let's watch. I know what you did last summer. Okay. Okay. But why? And it's like, because it's got Freddie Prinze Jr. in it and he's that fucking guy.
00:56:16
Speaker
Um, I'm going to do a house on Hone Hill, the ah Vincent Price version. The director William Castle sold insurance to people. Um, that, you know, if anyone died of fright while watching it, they would get like a bunch of money. And I think that's like, it's just such a fun gimmick and a fun fact. And the movie's awesome. I'm going to hit you with three rapid fire. These are my last three shitty found footage just for fun.
00:56:45
Speaker
the entire Bad Ben series, um the movie, The Collingswood Story, and Lake Mungo. This is like, the vibe is like, ghosts probably aren't real, but it's the time, like, let's pretend and let's have fun, like, let's really immerse ourselves, like, paranormal activity. Is it good? No, but we're here for a good time. All right. Then I go rapid fire.
00:57:15
Speaker
three right off the top of my head. The thing, the thing, 2011. And then right when you think I'm going to stay with that theme, uh, where it was within. Yes. I love where it was within such a fun. All right. I'm going to go with some anthology movies. I want to hit me with trick or treat tales of Halloween.
00:57:46
Speaker
All Hallows Eve and VHS. VHS ain't a bad one. All right. I'm um done, my list. We'll have more honorable mentions, I'll see for the end. But if we're done this category. Yeah, we're done this category. Well, I will give everybody a treat, like ah like a treat bag. And inside that treat bag is a DVD of the movie, No. And then I can go home and watch No.
00:58:12
Speaker
and I don't put it on a flash drive, but... just fine Fun fact, I have a friend who um I'm doing like a horror movie thing and she goes, hey, like I'm into this. I really want to watch some like more horror movies. But she goes, I don't like monkeys ripping off people's faces. oh hey And like she's like, that is like a big like, and like I was going to show nope and like she has no clue that this happened in nope. And I'm like, well, now I ah can't show nope.
00:58:41
Speaker
One, I feel like maybe you got a leak somewhere because that's a very specific, that's a very specific, please don't show me. Yeah, like that's an interesting thing to just be like, just to make sure before I come over, just know I can't watch any monkeys ripping people's faces off. That's so one thing. She's mentioned this before.
00:59:06
Speaker
in the past. So like, and I, like, I don't, we don't know what happened to her as a child, but like, she's mentioned it several times over the last like 10 years, just like casually it would be like, I'm in as long as like, I don't see a monkey rip someone's face off. That's what I know her childhood was. Nope. Was a documentary. And that's probably what it was. But yeah, I will sign a copy of that and everybody's a gift bag.
00:59:37
Speaker
and And when I say DVD, I mean like you will get the DVD where it's like it's it's not even holding on to the little clip thing. It's just like you can hear the DVD. The candy is scratching it. Yeah. It's like an over the garden wall where he gives her a mix tape and she's like, thank you. I really appreciate this, but I can't listen to this because it's a cassette tape. Yeah, it would be like that.
01:00:03
Speaker
All right. I will mention then, um, we're going to do some podcast recommendations and then we're going to play a quick game and wrap it up. All right. Um, I think I only have two double features that I didn't get to mention yet. One is the movie Casper and also Casper and Wendy starring Hilary Duff. Casper's has a great movie, but have you seen Casper and Wendy? All right. All right.
01:00:33
Speaker
I feel like that's kind of like my vibe it's like you hit them with like a classic but then you're like you gotta watch it with this unheard of anyways my other hear me out my other double feature this is another kids g-rated just spooky vibes this is for the kids or for nostalgia Hansel and Gretel 2002 paired with double double toil and trouble 1993 I love that starring Mary-Kate and Ashley. So I had meaning to wrap you, but I want you, I live that life. We gotta put that on Instagram. This could be the picture. I, I, Julia doesn't believe me, but I fucking live that Casper life and I'll show you that. No, I just think, I know everyone has seen Casper, but I know a lot of people haven't seen like the direct to video Casper and Wendy would be with Hilary Duff.
01:01:27
Speaker
this is going to be the um with her like little red outfit iconic but i i have a few if it's all right and i won't go into so i i i took a dive into disney channel original movie their halloween movies and there's some i missed and there's some that i just didn't add on for i didn't like him or whatever But the first Disney Channel original movie ever made was in 1997 under wraps. Halloween Town came out the next year. Halloween Town is a hit. I mean, we went to Harkons where the line is fucking like wrapped around the building. The goat, don't look under the bed. Mom's got a date with a vampire. Came out Friday the 13th. This is a fun fact friday the thirteenth

takes place on Halloween. All the vibes are right. If you haven't seen it, check it out. Let's move on. um I wanted to throw in like, just cause like a lot of people are busy. They travel a lot during the Halloween week. What are some, I mean, we're going to drop a playlist with all the music that you can ever want on it to set the perfect Halloween mood. That will be out shortly. But what podcasts do you listen to do get into the holiday season, spooky season? Okay.

So if you listen to maybe some of the older episodes of Mile Higher podcasts where they talk more about like paranormal Mile Higher, they also have a spin-off podcast that is more spooky. It's called Lights Out. So if you really want like really spooky scary, probably just listen to the Lights Out podcast. If you're looking for just general, not not super like paranormal, paranormal, but just kind of like fall vibes, a little bit spooky, like missing, they cover a lot of missing people, the podcast Lore Lodge. They talk about a lot of like missing 411 cases, a lot of like weird stuff that happens in like apple lot Appalachia, that whole area. They're like kind of local, they're from Pennsylvania, so they talk about like

Basically a lot of missing people and a lot of like unsolved mysteries from this general part of the country. Nice. I listen to La Mama Pelula. It's just ah um an old Mexican radio show that they archived and turned it into a podcast where people would call in and give their life. Usually taxi drivers, oh hospital workers will give their like ghost stories.

but I got a few that I guess I've been listening to. If people are into actual like stories, radio rental is a lot is a lot of fun. ah The guy from the office is in it, Rainn Wilson. He's a big part of it.

The Antiquarium of Sinister Happenings and Odd Goings On also just like runs the gamut of different scary stories, spooky stories. I've really enjoyed listening to that podcast. Scary to Sleep, if you'd like a more like gentle reading. she It's almost like borderline ASMR ah of horror stories. I think it's Shelby Novak is great at reading.

and She does a great job of reading like stories. If you like utter madness, welcome to Night Vale. There's over like a thousand episodes. They're short. They're incoherent. It's just a, uh, it's like a news reading from a town that's haunted and it's super interesting. Heart starts pounding is pretty cool. They cover like true crime on the more like horror side.

Area 215 is probably the one I would recommend the most. They do mostly paranormal in the area. It's done by a bunch of um lesbian bartenders that work in Philadelphia. And they're normally pretty drunk when they're recording. And the episodes are just a lot of fun, but also like super informative. So I highly recommend checking them out. Legends of Philadelphia has a lot of Halloween episodes.

Uh, they're just like some guys that do a lot of research and there's a one podcast here for the booze. And they, they're not local. They did cover by Barry, which is like really cool. Cause like everyone covers Pennhurst asylum and, um, by Barry was like far more, um, I guess sinister. And, uh, so like they, they, they have an episode covering that, which I think is cool.

I just remembered one more podcast that I've been listening to more recently. It's called creep cast and it's just too high. And they, they read like old creepy pasta stories from like the early 2000s, like old internet stories and they like reread them and give some like commentary, but it's really good. It's actually, I like that one. i I used to, I listened to that one a handful of times. Yeah. Some of their commentary is really funny.

I also like lore. And then like, I guess like it's like not cool to like lore because it's like really popular, but Aaron Mickey does a good job. I'm usually really not into like story podcasts, unless it's one where they're like reading a story and like giving commentary. But I'm, I'm just not like a story. I'm not, I don't really listen to like fiction like that. Yeah. Yeah. thats I tried to balance mine out of because I listened to a lot of fiction that I listened to a lot of nonfiction. So.
